Latest / The Regulars / World Cup Fever, Celtics Chaos, and Pop Culture Night: The Regulars Unfiltered
Transcript
- 0:00Welcome all, it is a Monday night, we got a lot of sports to cover, a lot of decent
- 0:10politics to cover, and you know what?
- 0:12A lot of fun pop culture to cover today.
- 0:14We actually have a more fun day of the regulars than normal, which I'm really excited about
- 0:20because last one was a bit spicy, so let's go ahead and have ourselves a wonderful night
- 0:26in talking sports and enjoying each other's company.
- 0:29Grab your drinks, it's Monday night, welcome to the regulars, I'm Cody Decker.
- 0:32I'm Tanya Rae Fox.
- 0:33How you doing?
- 0:34And I'm doing great.
- 0:36I'm in a much better mood entering the show than I was on Friday.
- 0:40That's always good.
- 0:41A little more scattered, but pulled it together, rundown's delightful, so I'm looking forward
- 0:46to that.
- 0:47We got a lot to cover today, and honestly a lot of good stuff to cover.
- 0:49Like, for instance, we're going to get to the World Cup, which we are both flat out
- 0:52addicted to.
- 0:53I cannot stop watching, I'm fucking addicted.
- 0:56Match going on right now, I'm still waiting to see, did the weather report even come to
- 0:59an end over there for France?
- 1:00Because I want to see the second half of that match.
- 1:02Oh, it's got to be done.
- 1:04It's got to be, but there was lightning in the air in Philly, so they had to postpone
- 1:07it.
- 1:08So it was like an hour and a half.
- 1:09I never even thought about it.
- 1:10I've been waiting to get back to that game, but we got that, we got some other great stuff
- 1:14to talk about.
- 1:15Hell, we're doing like a little movie corner today.
- 1:16Oh shit, we're 46 minutes in to France and Russia.
- 1:19So still, yeah, the rain is still delaying this match.
- 1:22One nothing, damn.
- 1:24We got more Mbappé tonight, so maybe good news, it gets delayed enough that we get to
- 1:27watch it.
- 1:28Yeah, well, you know, at that point they might just end up letting Mbappé rest.
- 1:34I don't know.
- 1:35I am worried about them having to get the rest in the middle of the game now.
- 1:37Maybe, yeah, that's going to be interesting.
- 1:39But we'll be talking about what people are planning to do in this final game of the group
- 1:44stage because teams that have wrapped things up are going to start behaving a little differently,
- 1:47so we'll talk about that.
- 1:48Yeah, it was all good, the weekend was good.
- 1:52We took the regulars out in the wild.
- 1:55Boy, oh boy, I got to tell you, these World Cup games are going to fucking kill me, man.
- 2:01There's a meme going around of Pep Guardiola and it's like him just like sitting in his
- 2:05manager's chair and there's like an empty seat next to him and he just turns and starts
- 2:08talking to literally no one.
- 2:09And it was like me after watching 30 World Cup games in seven days.
- 2:14No, excuse me, it's my liver is not going to keep me alive through this thing.
- 2:18I'm realizing that a few people actually said this online.
- 2:21The World Cup is not actually about soccer.
- 2:23It's about getting the world's biggest alcoholics all together to party in a new town and we
- 2:27are partying like crazy and I think there's a lot of pent up aggression from the Qatar
- 2:31one because there was no booze allowed.
- 2:33So now everybody's just making up for fucking lost time.
- 2:36Holy hell, this has become a drink fest.
- 2:39You go see the Germany game, there's going to be beer around.
- 2:42You go to Mexico, cerveza left and right, man.
- 2:47And also the vibe is something that I think a lot of us needed here.
- 2:51We've been in the darkest timeline and the vibrance of having everybody here and enjoying
- 2:58their time here and sharing culture, sharing food, sharing drink, songs, all the things
- 3:03that are happening and the camaraderie that's happening at the games.
- 3:08We needed it.
- 3:09We needed to see that we were part of a global culture.
- 3:12Yeah, we're finally, honestly, it's the first time in a while we felt that way because it's
- 3:16hard not to feel like you're a part of an imperialistic regime sometimes.
- 3:20We are.
- 3:21Well, I mean, it's not that we feel like we are.
- 3:22We are.
- 3:23I know.
- 3:24I was being nice.
- 3:25Okay.
- 3:26We are the bad people.
- 3:27Sometimes.
- 3:28But like truly for us, I do think that at least for me, all I can say is for me personally,
- 3:34it has been incredibly necessary to feel like a human being that can connect with people
- 3:39outside and to have people come here.
- 3:41A lot of people have said like, I was scared to come here and what, and understandably
- 3:44so.
- 3:45And there are still Iranians and people who are having a difficult time getting here.
- 3:49There are people who can't afford visas to come over because Trump jacked up the price,
- 3:53things like that.
- 3:54But, but upon getting here, the reception from the American people, whether it is in
- 3:57the Northeast, Boston, Philly, whatever, whether it is in Kansas, whether it is out here on
- 4:02the West Coast has, they have felt like a little bit reminder of like, oh, we get propagandized
- 4:07to by American media and by the world media.
- 4:10We get told about who Americans are more often than we get to actually experience it for
- 4:15ourselves.
- 4:16And when we come here and experience it, it's actually been amazing.
- 4:19Yeah.
- 4:20I saw a great, great thing.
- 4:21It was going around like the world cup is actually where all the cousins get together
- 4:24that never get to see each other because all our parents hate each other.
- 4:27Yes.
- 4:28Yeah.
- 4:29Oh, that's such a good, that's a really good way to put it.
- 4:30It's a really good way to put it.
- 4:31We're all the cousins.
- 4:32We all get along great.
- 4:33Yeah.
- 4:34And, um, you know, I feel like, uh, a lot of people, you know, someone made a really
- 4:37good point where they were like a lot of people's, uh, especially Europeans ideas of what Americans
- 4:42are and who Americans are, are the people who can afford to travel to Europe, which
- 4:46is very often not our best, right?
- 4:49Like it's, you know, money doesn't do great things to people over here.
- 4:53And a lot of times there's, they're getting the more entitled American over in Europe.
- 4:58But when you come here, you get to experience the people who are actually making up the
- 5:01fabric of the country within the context of it.
- 5:04Absolutely.
- 5:05And it's been great to see.
- 5:06And we'll get into a little bit more of the actual world cup play and what's going to
- 5:09take place.
- 5:10But listen, I'm kind of excited to open up with this because not only do we have a draft
- 5:14tomorrow, it looks like we're going to have some serious theatrics beforehand.
- 5:17If you believe reports from, and I do tend to believe Shams and Wendy.
- 5:21So I don't know, this has gone crazy.
- 5:25Talk about how sad you are.
- 5:27Tell the people.
- 5:28Well, the Celtics are rumored to have a pretty strong interest in trading for Giannis much
- 5:35more than we previously might've thought.
- 5:37It is completely at this point down to the Celtics in the heat.
- 5:40That is like essentially what the reporting has been is that it is completely down to
- 5:44the Celtics in the heat.
- 5:45And it's really just a matter of, you know, who puts together a package and whatever.
- 5:48Giannis is gone.
- 5:50People kept trying to say, maybe, maybe not, maybe not, no, it's happening.
- 5:54There are, there are a ton of varying opinions about what this, what this would be for the
- 6:02Celtics.
- 6:03We're going to talk about the Celtics because it is the more interesting play.
- 6:05Let's be honest.
- 6:06The heat are like, we really don't, they're a little bit of a more unknown entity, whereas
- 6:11the Celtics, we know exactly what this would look like and what they'd have to give up
- 6:15specifically to.
- 6:16Do we have an idea what the heat would need to give up though?
- 6:18Because I know what the Celtics need to give up, but because here's, what's been said to
- 6:21me a bunch of times, specifically by Derek Fisher, he doesn't really understand the idea
- 6:25of putting BAM and Giannis together.
- 6:28That seems a little problematic.
- 6:29I, I don't quite understand it either, although I could see the benefit of it with Giannis
- 6:35as an older player.
- 6:36Like, I mean, they're both not young, right.
- 6:38But like, I kind of, I could see Eric Spolstra and the heat, Pat Riley, that specific organization
- 6:45being like, why can't we have two bags?
- 6:48Like, they are the kind of, they are the kind of organization that would do something
- 6:52like that.
- 6:53I do wonder what they would give up if they're not giving up BAM.
- 6:55Yeah.
- 6:56Fascinating.
- 6:57Right?
- 6:58Like, that's the whole thing around the Giannis trade for the Celtics is like, they got to
- 7:00be planning on giving up Jalen Brown.
- 7:02If you believe reports, that is exactly what they're doing.
- 7:05Yes.
- 7:06And so we'll, I'll let you know that Jalen Brown was asked today about, or he was asked
- 7:11yesterday and how he feels kind of, you know, about what's going on right now.
- 7:17And he said, it just gives me more fuel to the fire, to all the people that doubted me
- 7:21that want me to do this or want me gone.
- 7:22You're turning me into a monster.
- 7:25This is like a lot of the stuff that he's been, he's been kind of spouting across the
- 7:29course of the off season.
- 7:30Every time there's trade rumors, he has this relationship to it.
- 7:34So if he doesn't get traded, he'll be fine.
- 7:36This happened last off season.
- 7:37So this isn't going to do damage to him being able to operate within the Celtics organization.
- 7:41He's always good with it.
- 7:43The question is, is this actually a good move for them?
- 7:45And I want to talk to you about what DeMarcus Cousins said, because I think it can lead
- 7:48into a good conversation for us.
- 7:51He said, he's sort of hearing the sirens before the fire for the, for he said, Celtics have
- 7:57more of a championship window with Jalen Brown and Jason Tatum.
- 8:00I don't quite understand why they would go all in for you as far as Giannis is coming
- 8:06to a close.
- 8:07And as far as his peak in the NBA, that's coming to a close.
- 8:10When you think about it from that point standpoint, it doesn't quite make sense now.
- 8:16I agree that there are red flags with bringing Giannis in, but I don't agree with them for
- 8:21the same reasons that DeMarcus Cousins is saying right now.
- 8:24I believe that the, the most, I think Giannis could absolutely continue to be a, a role
- 8:31player.
- 8:32I'm sorry, a star on a title team for the next 10 years.
- 8:35I don't think that that's an issue.
- 8:37What I think is an issue is the fact that Giannis is a, an unknown entity in a pair
- 8:44that all right.
- 8:45We already know works together.
- 8:47You and I talked about this a lot across the course of the regular season about how people
- 8:52seem to, for whatever reason, wipe their brains men in black style about what Jalen Brown
- 8:57and Jason Tatum have done together.
- 8:59Like I hate to break it to everybody, but not every single, you know, championship caliber
- 9:05team is a dynasty.
- 9:07But the reality is they have been to what six and a Eastern conference championship
- 9:14games.
- 9:15They've played in two NBA finals, have a title.
- 9:17This is what they've built together.
- 9:19This is a duo that built everything.
- 9:21They are, they built together and have always been successful at it all the way to Eastern
- 9:25conference finals until this year when Jason Tatum had was coming back from an Achilles
- 9:29and they decided they weren't going to build a title contending team around him.
- 9:33That's it.
- 9:34Like that's the only thing that happened.
- 9:35That's the only one thing.
- 9:36If a very healthy title contending roster built to be a title contender had not made
- 9:41the Eastern conference finals.
- 9:42I could see a little bit of panic around that.
- 9:44Like at this point, that's not what happened.
- 9:46Jalen Brown and Jason Tatum were playing excellently together.
- 9:49Cody, you tell me what the point is of, of breaking up that duo to see if there's a maybe
- 9:543% chance that Jason Tatum and Giannis are better together than Jason Tatum and Jalen
- 9:59Brown.
- 10:00What's the point?
- 10:01I don't know.
- 10:02I really don't see the point.
- 10:03All I know is that you're willing to trade away the younger.
- 10:05Now here's the thing.
- 10:06I disagree with the age thing.
- 10:08There's no proof right now that Giannis is coming to the end of his prime.
- 10:11What is a prime?
- 10:12Now the guy is in incredible shape.
- 10:14If he stays healthy, LeBron James is about to get possibly like a max deal and he's going
- 10:20into his 42 year season.
- 10:22Katie is seven foot tall and like a hundred pounds and he's still like, I'm sorry, I'm
- 10:26not willing to have that conversation about somebody not being in their prime anymore
- 10:29until we eventually see that they're no longer in their prime because primes can be extended.
- 10:33At this point.
- 10:34Right.
- 10:35Um, however, if we are going to have the age conversation, Jalen Brown is younger if we're
- 10:38going to have the, I honestly do not understand this because Jalen Brown has been healthy
- 10:44for years.
- 10:45He's done nothing but do every possible role.
- 10:47Uh, he, he, he was the finals MVP if I remember correctly, was he not?
- 10:51He was, he was the finals MVP.
- 10:53He was nearly the MVP in the goddamn league last fucking year.
- 10:57And yet somehow he still gets shit on by certain people.
- 10:59I don't know where this narrative comes from.
- 11:01I don't know if it's because he's outspoken and because we just don't like it or when
- 11:04our athletes are a little outspoken.
- 11:05I get that.
- 11:06But you know what he is?
- 11:07He's a fucking good player.
- 11:08And honestly you think you're getting less personality with Giannis coming in?
- 11:13I'm sorry.
- 11:14What the fuck are you talking about?
- 11:16And by the way, I love Giannis.
- 11:17I would love to have him here in LA if there's no universe.
- 11:19I see that happening, but there are rumors that the Lakers are trying to get on this,
- 11:23but I don't know how that's remotely possible.
- 11:26Um, I'm just sitting here going like, dude, great.
- 11:29Go ahead and do it.
- 11:30I don't, I don't see how it's an upgrade.
- 11:33How about that?
- 11:34If your argument is, well, now we've got a guy that can go into the paint and we can
- 11:36handle the three with Tatum instead of Brown and just only shoot threes.
- 11:40I'm like, you could do that now.
- 11:42I don't know why you're doing this only with Giannis coming in.
- 11:45However, it is some star power when they are, when they are there, when they've been there
- 11:49most effective, uh, when they've made their adjustments has been, okay, we got to break
- 11:54up the three ball, get it.
- 11:56And it's Jason driving the lane.
- 11:57It's Jalen Brown setting stuff up in the paint.
- 11:59Like that is absolutely stuff that they have done exceptionally well before, because there
- 12:04was an era prior to this, before this, where they weren't the three ball team that they
- 12:08became that won the title.
- 12:09And so I agree it's, we have no proof.
- 12:12It's an upgrade.
- 12:13It is very rare that you have a, a duo that works as well and has been historically successful
- 12:18as Jalen Brown and Jason Tatum, where people continue to try to break it up for no other
- 12:22reason than because they seem to have the expectation, um, of them that, that really
- 12:27doesn't it that they've already risen to.
- 12:30Well, here's the thing.
- 12:31The thing that never made sense to me, this is why we were actually shitting on it when
- 12:33we were talking about it before we were like, well, that just doesn't make sense simply
- 12:36because they make the same money.
- 12:37So you're really just swapping the same amount of money and you're getting older with your
- 12:40team and why would you trade away the guy that fucking carried your goddamn team all
- 12:47season long?
- 12:48That being said, listen, it isn't star power.
- 12:51I'll tell you right now, high off the glass in here, this is a guy named Oh, the great,
- 12:54he watches all of our stuff and loves it.
- 12:56He's having a little bit of trouble getting there.
- 12:58He's a, he's a Celtics fan.
- 12:59He fucking hates this.
- 13:00I'm having trouble understanding about this and maybe you can shed some light on this.
- 13:04There is an alarming trend of new NBA ownership groups destroying what was there, what was
- 13:10there before they brought in this team, uh, sons, Mavericks, Bucks, and now Boston.
- 13:15Do you think there's actual validity to that?
- 13:17New ownership group wants to make it their own, put their stamp on it.
- 13:20If so, that's fucking stupid.
- 13:22100%.
- 13:23Jesus.
- 13:24100%.
- 13:25That's fucking stupid.
- 13:26It's absolutely a thing.
- 13:27Now I will say son's ownership has been trash, right?
- 13:31Like, um, and that was like a whole thing.
- 13:34And then they went into a thing where it was like, Oh, this is going to be the big new
- 13:37era.
- 13:38And that has not turned out to be the case.
- 13:40Um, the Celtics had really good ownership and they, and so it, it's an unfit, I feel
- 13:45like it's unfamiliar territory a little bit, but at the same time, this does feel like
- 13:51a forced narrative.
- 13:53I can't really envision a world where even someone like Brad Stevens, who will make big
- 14:00moves, who will make the hard decisions, who will get rid of players.
- 14:03Like none of us want to see drew holiday go, but like he did what he had to do.
- 14:06Like he's going to do what he has to do.
- 14:08I, this doesn't seem like a move that makes sense for him.
- 14:11It doesn't make it seem like a move that Joe Missoula would particularly want.
- 14:15In fact, Joe kind of just, he's like, give me the team and I'm going to make them work.
- 14:19And he has a great relation.
- 14:20Like he has very close relationships with Jalen and Jason.
- 14:23So I don't think it's coming from him.
- 14:24So that absolutely makes it seem like it could be an ownership thing.
- 14:28And the, it's a, it's a really tricky game to play because could Giannis turn the seam
- 14:33right back around and him and Jason Tatum are the most electric duo we've seen in the
- 14:37last fucking whatever, however many years.
- 14:39Sure.
- 14:40But the risk on the other side of that is that you just broke up one of the six most
- 14:43successful duos in the league.
- 14:45One of the most successful duos in the history of the Celtics really, I mean, since the nineties
- 14:50And for what?
- 14:51To bring in a superstar, like that doesn't fit into your system in any capacity, that's
- 14:56going to be a problem.
- 14:57So it's a real gamble.
- 15:00And I like, I'm always confused when you have something works at the, that works as a fan's
- 15:05love that you're like, but what if we fucked it up?
- 15:09It's just, it's, it's fascinating to me that we're watching a very unique era of parody
- 15:14in the NBA.
- 15:16No one's winning multiple titles in a row right now.
- 15:18It's been very impressive to actually see eight years of someone new winning and it's
- 15:22been very impressive to see.
- 15:24And I think just, you know, the golden state warriors did this to us.
- 15:27I think that of course the Lakers have done this to us.
- 15:29And then of course the, the, the, the bowls in the nineties did this to us.
- 15:33And then the Lakers and Celtics, and again, again, we're so used to these dynasties that
- 15:37now we don't fucking give validity to teams that are winning championships because not
- 15:41all, no, everyone can't be great.
- 15:44They all are fucking great.
- 15:46They're all fucking great.
- 15:47Each one of these guys can fucking win a championship.
- 15:50They're all fucking great.
- 15:54Not it's like, it's not a league of Jordan anymore.
- 15:57It's a league of fucking 50 Jordans.
- 16:00It's batshit.
- 16:01So yeah, these playoffs, anyone can find, would you have been shocked if the Minnesota
- 16:05Timberwolves won the championship?
- 16:07Denver?
- 16:08I thought they could.
- 16:09Yeah.
- 16:10Fucking the Laker.
- 16:11If the Lakers were healthy, obviously.
- 16:12But after the marks they had, fuck yeah, they could have won the championship.
- 16:15You could have made an argument for Cleveland winning.
- 16:17You could have made an argument for Detroit winning.
- 16:18Like they're all fucking astonishing.
- 16:21By the way, to your point, the Knicks won the fucking title.
- 16:26Knicks won the title.
- 16:27Like no, there was no world where people were predicting that.
- 16:30And you know, part of the problem here is that there's a lot of like Monday morning
- 16:33quarterbacking around these things.
- 16:35So for the Knicks, the Knicks example, you and I haven't talked about this and mostly
- 16:38it's because I don't think I can do it without being like off offensive, quite honestly.
- 16:42But the backlash to Becky Hammond and her comments about Jalen Brunson and whatever.
- 16:49So she said, made these comments in 2023 and very famously said, you know, the teams cannot
- 16:54build around a small point guard and win titles.
- 16:56That's, you know, she was speaking actual facts about what we had seen in trends in
- 16:59the league.
- 17:00It was just factual at the time.
- 17:01We had seen it.
- 17:02The backlash has been so extreme that even Knicks players, people are calling on her
- 17:06to apologize.
- 17:07There's been this incredibly misogynistic, sexist response to her as if she's the only
- 17:12person who ever made this critique by this, by the way, is a critique and a conversation
- 17:16that's been being had among NBA circles and in the NBA media for years and years.
- 17:20She was another person who echoed it and was very blunt in her assessment.
- 17:23Now that was made in 2023, you know, who wasn't on the team in 2023 fucking OG fucking cat.
- 17:31Guess what they did.
- 17:32They actually improved the team to make it a winnable roster around Jalen Brunson.
- 17:36She was not wrong.
- 17:38She was wrong in the sense that like, yes, there was pieces to put around him, you know,
- 17:42that could work, but she wasn't wrong that like that iteration of the team was not going
- 17:46to win a title with Jason Branson, Jalen Brunson being their best player.
- 17:50And so these conversations, the, the, the Monday morning quarterbacking of what teams
- 17:55could have, should have, would have done has gotten really out of control in a league that
- 17:59to your point, there's new winners every year that we don't necessarily see coming or they're
- 18:05great, but we didn't know they were that good.
- 18:07Or we, you know, we would have bet the Spurs were going to beat the fucking Knicks.
- 18:10They didn't.
- 18:11We, this is how the league is.
- 18:13We're supposed to like that.
- 18:14And also Janice going to the Celtics feels like a move that would have that like from
- 18:2110 years ago.
- 18:22Yeah.
- 18:23It feels right.
- 18:24It feels like a little late to the party.
- 18:25It feels like it's like, Oh wait, this would have fucking slapped in 2016.
- 18:27Oh bro.
- 18:28You should have seen this.
- 18:29Right.
- 18:30Right.
- 18:31When Asher Roth fucking released, I love college.
- 18:33Like that's what it, like, it really feels like before Trump was elected, this would
- 18:37have fucking, Oh dude, Obama would have loved this office, bro.
- 18:42That's the vibe.
- 18:43The golden age back then.
- 18:44Like it makes it sound like I don't like Janice and that's not the case.
- 18:47I like Janice.
- 18:48Um, and let's, and it makes, I'd love to have them here.
- 18:51Absolutely.
- 18:52But like you just, I, you know, whatever, if you're going to do it, you're going to
- 18:55do it, but you better be really sure.
- 18:58It's so wild that Jalen and Jason have done everything they can do to be like, Hey guys,
- 19:03we play so fucking well together and play.
- 19:05In fact, we play better together every year.
- 19:07We've been together.
- 19:08I, Jason Tatum's played his entire career with J Jalen Brown.
- 19:11They have built around, even with those big contracts, they've been able to build around
- 19:15them.
- 19:16They aren't going to get a smaller contract with Janice.
- 19:17It is.
- 19:18I feel like I'm in the twilight zone.
- 19:19Like what on what planet does this team now?
- 19:23Now hold on Cody.
- 19:24And I've said this before, and I should make this clear if you can get Janice with Jalen
- 19:29and Jason.
- 19:30Yes, of course.
- 19:31I would fucking take that.
- 19:32I would take that.
- 19:33Fantastic.
- 19:35That's not what's on the table.
- 19:36It sounds like a monstrous team by the way, Tatum and Janice doesn't sound like a bad
- 19:41team.
- 19:42It just doesn't sound like a better team.
- 19:43Exactly.
- 19:44It sounds like it could, at best, it could be as good as he already is with Jalen Brown.
- 19:48And that's what the question is going to be, Ooh, can this team be as good as it was with
- 19:52Jalen Brown?
- 19:53And then my question is why the fuck are we trying to find out what kind of game are you
- 19:59playing here?
- 20:00What are you doing now?
- 20:01You have a winning hand and you're kind of fold.
- 20:04You're like, yeah, I'll still take three.
- 20:06I wouldn't know as much as I, I, I, it's all the surf pants are going to be mad at me for
- 20:11saying this, but I love Derek White with all my heart and soul.
- 20:15I don't want him gone.
- 20:16But if getting rid of, if, if dealing Derek White and Peyton Pritchard and some picks
- 20:21somehow got you Janice, you do that.
- 20:24You absolutely do that.
- 20:26If you have a big three of the Jays and Janice, that's an insane roster.
- 20:30But I, that's not going to happen.
- 20:33So that's the thing.
- 20:34Like a big three.
- 20:35Yeah.
- 20:36But a big two swapping out one fucking MVP candidate for another one seems goofy.
- 20:41It is a little bit, but Hey, listen, whatever, man, it's your team.
- 20:46I'm not in charge of it.
- 20:47And if I were, I wouldn't be doing this.
- 20:49My team's got enough on its plate right now.
- 20:51I don't, I don't got to worry about this right now.
- 20:53We have like 19 people to sign at the moment and I have, and that, by the way, a lot of
- 20:57cap space for the Lakers, a cap space is going to disappear real fucking quick.
- 21:01I'm a little worried about what's about to take place.
- 21:03Do they have to sign Luca?
- 21:04No, they have to sign Austin LeBron.
- 21:07They got to bring back Jackson Hayes.
- 21:08They got to bring back.
- 21:09It's going to be that expensive.
- 21:10No, it's just at the end of the day, there's just a lot of numbers that money's going to
- 21:14shrink real fast.
- 21:15And then they also got to get a quote unquote big center.
- 21:18Who knows who that's going to be?
- 21:19Is it going to be Lou Dort?
- 21:20Is it going to be Mitchell Robinson?
- 21:21It's going to be 80.
- 21:22It's just, I'd like to see it.
- 21:25I'm not going to lie to you.
- 21:26I'd like to see it.
- 21:27I don't think it's going to happen.
- 21:28I really don't.
- 21:29I'd like to see it.
- 21:30I mean, 80 is also like not the biggest.
- 21:31I mean, he's like to see you get a bigger guy if you want.
- 21:34I'd like to see.
- 21:35Sure.
- 21:36All I'm saying.
- 21:37I just would like to see it.
- 21:38But that's that for headline number one.
- 21:39Hey, let's get back over to the world cup for headline number two, because dude, it's
- 21:42been amazing.
- 21:43Messy.
- 21:44Two more goals today.
- 21:45Most goals of all time.
- 21:46Here's my actual question before we actually get into all the details.
- 21:49How much is this going to fuck up Ronaldo for his second game and then trying to score
- 21:53hog and it's going to fuck them up completely because who do they got?
- 21:56Who do they got again?
- 21:57Oh, England.
- 21:58Oh, this is going to be tough.
- 21:59This will be fun.
- 22:00Ronaldo is going to go home.
- 22:01I love it.
- 22:02I am.
- 22:03I'm a big.
- 22:04I'm a big England fan because of a couple of players on the team.
- 22:08I don't care about the like I can't get invested for some reason in the Ronaldo being bad things.
- 22:15I was like, yeah, no, I already knew that.
- 22:16I'm just having fun.
- 22:17But we are going to talk about it later because I do want to bring that conversation up back
- 22:21at a later date regarding the whole like messy Ronaldo thing and the goat conversation and
- 22:25how it got here.
- 22:26However, Lionel Messi, absolutely crushing.
- 22:31Obviously we we are in a weird space with discussing the Team USA because you can you're
- 22:38not allowed to be excited about Team Team USA right now.
- 22:41There's a whole thing where, you know, Tim Tom, Tim, I did it again.
- 22:44Tim Howard.
- 22:45Yes.
- 22:46He threw some cold water over it.
- 22:47I believe he said his direct quote was literally impossible.
- 22:52They said literally impossible that the Team USA could win the World Cup.
- 22:56My discussion in it when I was discussing it on threads was, is it literally impossible?
- 23:00No, nothing is literally impossible.
- 23:02Of course.
- 23:03Yes.
- 23:04That is a long shot of all long shots currently right now where what I have seen from them
- 23:08is the best I've seen from them since I've been watching men's soccer in the 90s.
- 23:12It is the best two game stretch in a tournament I've ever seen from this team.
- 23:17And also, yes, this competition, the competition has not been England and Germany, right?
- 23:21So okay.
- 23:22But I do see because I understand the game, how that team could at their best hold their
- 23:27own against the best teams in the world.
- 23:30It's always about matchups.
- 23:31It's always about how you get to get to the next round, what kind of luck you might get
- 23:36and how you match up with the team.
- 23:38And I expect this team and I'll say this, and this is not something I would have said
- 23:42two weeks ago.
- 23:43I think USA should absolutely has no excuses at this point to not win their first knockout
- 23:49game.
- 23:50They need to make it past their first knockout game to not be a disappointment for me based
- 23:53on what I have seen now.
- 23:55Of course, I don't expect them to win the World Cup, but I got to be honest, if you
- 24:00look back at 2004, the 2004 Euros, this was like a heyday of like some of the greatest
- 24:05soccer stars in the world.
- 24:06All the people we grew up knowing were massive soccer stars were all like these huge stars
- 24:12in Europe at the time.
- 24:13So it's the Euros and these rosters were stacked.
- 24:18England was stacked.
- 24:19Germany was stacked.
- 24:20You know, they had Belgium and the Netherlands and Spain and Portugal.
- 24:23All these teams were stacked.
- 24:27The Greek, Greece won the Euros that year.
- 24:30Greece was a team full of Greek people no one had heard of.
- 24:33They won the Euros.
- 24:34They got a little lucky, right?
- 24:36England gets knocked out by, I think it was like Portugal or somebody because David Beckham
- 24:41misses his first penalty kick, which doesn't happen.
- 24:43David Beckham doesn't miss penalty kicks.
- 24:45These are the little tiny things that happen where it's like, then you get to your, you
- 24:49get to your, you know, the final, the Greece is there and suddenly this team that had no
- 24:54fucking chance to win against that stacked of a field has won the tournament.
- 25:01Do I think that's going to happen for the United States?
- 25:03No, but I think reducing the conversation to this is all they can do and then when you
- 25:09try to be optimistic and talk really tactically about what they're capable of and people are
- 25:13like, let's just slow it down.
- 25:15Hold your horses.
- 25:16It's very frustrating because it's like, there is an actual conversation to be had here about
- 25:21what it would take.
- 25:22There aren't a ton of, oh my God, world beaters in this cup right now.
- 25:27There aren't teams that I am wildly afraid of in, you know, across the board.
- 25:33There's a hand, like maybe three teams that I'm like genuinely afraid of.
- 25:37They don't meet those three teams on the way to the fucking, you know, semifinals.
- 25:42Do I expect it?
- 25:43No.
- 25:44Are we allowed to like talk about what their, what their peak could be while also not expecting
- 25:48it?
- 25:49I, as a, as a fan, I'm capable of that.
- 25:50A lot of people on the internet seem to think you have to be as negative as humanly possible
- 25:54before you can get excited about the potential of a team you're watching.
- 25:58Okay.
- 26:00That's weird and stupid.
- 26:01Well, it's like every, every time I'm like, that was an incredible performance.
- 26:04This is, here's what I liked about it.
- 26:05Some, you know, loser who's like, or 10 of them quite honestly, who's like, I simply
- 26:10just don't think that we need to be getting this excited about a win over, um, Australia.
- 26:15And it's like, okay, well, two world cup matches in a row.
- 26:17Yeah.
- 26:18Well, you should absolutely get excited about that.
- 26:19Listen, don't worry about fucking losers on the internet when it comes to sports.
- 26:22Well, it's also apparently Tim Howard.
- 26:23Tim Howard being a dumber.
- 26:24No, I'm just kidding.
- 26:25I'm just kidding.
- 26:26I did.
- 26:27Cause the rest of his thing, he goes through the whole thing.
- 26:28Cause he would actually show some X, but his thing was all like tamper your expectations.
- 26:31Now do I think the literally no, uh, literally impossible statement is a bit over the top.
- 26:37Absolutely.
- 26:38Sure.
- 26:39However, but he did go into a little bit of detail of when he was talking about, like,
- 26:40listen, like be excited.
- 26:43But also you have, they have to play four perfect games in a row against the greatest
- 26:47players currently.
- 26:48Like he doesn't see that happening and I got a little bit fucking neither do I.
- 26:52However, how great would that be?
- 26:54Fuck yeah.
- 26:55That'd be great.
- 26:56But I'm with you on getting past the first knockout round stage.
- 26:58And that also means listen, whether you like it or not, whether you think it's not the
- 27:03right thing to do or not.
- 27:04Yeah.
- 27:05I think the, if you want to give some politics, some minutes, if he's healthy enough to do
- 27:08it, just to get his rhythm going.
- 27:09Absolutely.
- 27:10If we need to protect other people from yellow cards, you fucking do it.
- 27:14Gotta protect the player from themselves sometimes because we need this team as healthy as humanly
- 27:18possible going into the knockout round sip period stop.
- 27:21This is the most excited a team USA has ever been, at least in my lifetime, like, so like
- 27:27this is bad-ass.
- 27:28I'm really enjoying this.
- 27:29Now, when they're knocked out, I'm hopefully going to keep that a world cup fever going
- 27:33because I do know the inevitable is likely that they get knocked out, but they got me
- 27:37believing they got slopped on saying that it's possible.
- 27:40That alone's got me fucking going.
- 27:41Now of course, fucking Lexi Lawson be next to him, pour some cold water or some shit,
- 27:45but listen, they'll just make fun of the Lexi Lawson again.
- 27:48And by the way, I'm loving how much Lexi Lawson is just, it seems like everyone, whether no
- 27:52matter what side of the aisle you're on, no matter what you believe in, no matter who
- 27:55is your God, everyone agrees that Alexi Lawless fucking sucks.
- 28:00And it's great.
- 28:01And the difference it's, I mean, he's a perfect example of the difference between the difference
- 28:05between Alexi Lawless and Tim Howard is that like Tim Howard gave, he loves team USA so
- 28:12much.
- 28:13He said that playing for team USA, he was like, that is the dream.
- 28:16No matter who I played for English premier league, Everton, no matter how incredible
- 28:19my career was putting on that Jersey and playing for the United States was the pinnacle
- 28:25of my career.
- 28:26And every single game I played in for United States was so important to me.
- 28:32That was the most important thing to me as a player.
- 28:35And the biggest honor, it means a lot to him to root for the United States team.
- 28:40And it, when you know how it feels when you're so invested and when it means when it's so
- 28:43personal, you almost can't hope like, I think for him, he's like, I need to stay as grounded
- 28:48as possible because the idea that this team could rise to that level.
- 28:52And for this team, by the way, this is the team that Tim built.
- 28:56Tim Howard is the most important player in the history of the U S men's national team.
- 29:00And it's the second place is far away.
- 29:03It's far away.
- 29:04So I understand the stakes for him in becoming invested in, in believing in this team and
- 29:10how, you know, somewhat nerve wracking it is to say, Holy shit, you know team, team,
- 29:18Tim Howard is as, as important to any national team as any player we've had.
- 29:24And you know, I understand that part, as far as the rest of the field right now, I would
- 29:31say that Cabo Verde is the sweetheart, especially after the, after this weekend, everybody is
- 29:41like really on board.
- 29:43I love a sweetheart team.
- 29:44I love a team that has, has been able to kind of come out of the shadows in their first
- 29:49cup.
- 29:50And this is a tiny Island nation that has actually a lot of representation in the Northeast
- 29:54size.
- 29:55Yeah.
- 29:56Immigrants living in the Northeast specifically in like the Boston and New York areas.
- 30:02And it's been sensational goaltender.
- 30:05Absolutely.
- 30:06Like we can't get, we, Virginia's story is amazing.
- 30:09His mom was at the game.
- 30:10Did you know?
- 30:11I did not know.
- 30:12And he was able to finally afford the visa after he has like 90,000, 90 million Instagram
- 30:16followers.
- 30:17It's crazy.
- 30:18Do we actually know what the number is actually at when he started at 40,000?
- 30:19He started at 45,000 and I, the last I had checked, it was like 12 million last night.
- 30:24Last I checked it was, it was close to 16.
- 30:25I think.
- 30:26Yeah.
- 30:27Something like that.
- 30:28So guys never have to pay for the rest of his life.
- 30:30Those are like, that's, that to me, they are the sweethearts of the tournament.
- 30:35Cote d'Ivoire has been fun to watch, but it seems like they, they're kind of getting a
- 30:39rough draw.
- 30:41Any other teams that have stuck out to you where you've just been like, I've really enjoyed
- 30:44watching that specific team.
- 30:46Morocco.
- 30:47I enjoyed watching them.
- 30:49But that's not the same.
- 30:50You know who I feel really bad for and God forgive me, it's something in my mind right
- 30:54now.
- 30:55They're in a tough, tough, tough bracket.
- 30:56Tunisia?
- 30:57Not Tunisia.
- 30:58Didn't they fire their head coach and their manager in the first year of the first game?
- 31:04Yeah.
- 31:05No, not Tunisia.
- 31:06No.
- 31:07It'll come to me.
- 31:08It'll come.
- 31:09I was just seeing the absolutely terrifying memes of Erling Holland, Holland, where he's
- 31:14like, I mean, he's that huge, well aware of who he is.
- 31:19He is terrifying.
- 31:20Especially when he's running after people.
- 31:21Yes.
- 31:22That's all the memes.
- 31:23Oh yeah.
- 31:24Really good.
- 31:25Horrifying.
- 31:26Yeah.
- 31:27He's been, he's been really fun.
- 31:28If you think of the team, of course, let me know because this is a team that has a shot
- 31:31of losing all three of their games.
- 31:35Iran draw with Belgium is a big deal.
- 31:36Oh yeah.
- 31:38Belgium's kind of struggling right now, which is interesting.
- 31:40I didn't necessarily expect that.
- 31:44And Netherlands trumping Sweden.
- 31:45I didn't see either.
- 31:46So those are a couple of surprising results.
- 31:50Once you've figured out whatever team it is, we're going to, you can just pop.
- 31:53I believe they're actually even playing today.
- 31:55Yep.
- 31:56Senegal.
- 31:57I feel bad for Senegal.
- 31:58Yeah.
- 31:59Cause by the way, Senegal is very good in Senegal and they might get blanked this entire
- 32:03thing.
- 32:04It's so frustrating because they are really good.
- 32:05They are an incredible team.
- 32:07They're speaking in Norway.
- 32:08They're playing Norway today.
- 32:09And that's a tough, by the way, that's the closest odds of any matchup today.
- 32:12Cause everyone else is pretty much a pretty heavy favorite on the other end.
- 32:15This Senegal can go, Oh, and three, it shouldn't be owned three.
- 32:19And that's the thing is if you had told me like pick a team out of, out of Africa that
- 32:23you think, of course it would be Senegal, but it has been really tough.
- 32:28As far as just looking ahead for the United States men's national team, Finn Balagoon
- 32:34wants to score and he does not want to rest versus Turkey because he wants to stay in
- 32:38the golden boot contention.
- 32:39Yeah, that's great.
- 32:40He can get a yellow card.
- 32:41He should come out.
- 32:42That's.
- 32:43And here's the thing is like, I completely understand.
- 32:46Every player wants to play.
- 32:47They really do.
- 32:48And I think maybe Christian Pulisic is fine with not playing, but like, you know, that
- 32:51is, I completely understand that part of it.
- 32:55They with the United States, not needing him.
- 32:59It's here's the, I'm going to tell you why this is a harder decision than not to just
- 33:04like pull him.
- 33:06There has not been a, these, this team as constituted, despite how they look, have not
- 33:10played a ton of minutes together.
- 33:13In the last game where they started Pepe and Balagoon instead of Pulisic, that was a pairing
- 33:20that has worked really, really well in the 187 minutes that they'd played together prior
- 33:24to that start.
- 33:26This is a team that really needs to understand exactly how to use the best offensive weapon
- 33:32that they have against any team that they, that they might run up on and sacrificing
- 33:38the opportunity to work on your tactics against a team like Turkey, which by the way, you
- 33:43never know any given any given world cup game.
- 33:45So you want to take your opponent seriously.
- 33:49This you know, this is not just, Oh, we are a well-oiled machine.
- 33:54This is not Argentina.
- 33:55This is not Spain.
- 33:56This is a team that needs reps that needs to know exactly what they need to do on the
- 34:01flip side, injuries cards.
- 34:04You are not wrong.
- 34:05There is a very like, so do they go out?
- 34:08Does he let these guys play the first 20 minutes to start doing early subs?
- 34:12What is, there's a lot of decision-making here.
- 34:15I don't love the idea of Finn sitting out completely early exit and hopefully Pulisic
- 34:21can get in there and also get some reps as well.
- 34:24Maybe it's just that type of game of which I'd be more than fine with that being said,
- 34:28I am, I'm going to obviously defer to experts when it comes to this and probably supporting
- 34:33a decision.
- 34:34But I got to say, if you lose Bella goon in a knockout round, you're going to wonder what
- 34:38the fuck you gave so much a shit about Turkey about.
- 34:40Yeah.
- 34:41I mean, but that's, that's what you can say in every tournament.
- 34:44You're not wrong.
- 34:45Like, I mean, we, we, sometimes we talk about, about that in seven game series, right?
- 34:49Here, Bella goons even acknowledging himself, like he, he gave out his quotes, fully aware
- 34:53of the situation and fully aware that he wants to play, but aware of the situation he's in
- 34:58that he could be out for a knockout round, which is not good.
- 35:02Not good, Bob.
- 35:03Not great.
- 35:04It really all like, you know, you and I would have a much better idea of what they should
- 35:07do if we could sit in their locker room.
- 35:09Right.
- 35:10And understand because like part of it is, okay, if you don't start Bella goon, if you
- 35:14don't start Pulisic who is, might've not started anyway, purely because of his calf or whatever
- 35:19it might be, what is this a team where the, where the, the players who go in instead are
- 35:26really fucking hungry and to rise to the occasion and can replicate the tactics that they want
- 35:32to be able to use moving forward.
- 35:33Does he have to do an entirely different formation because of the players he's putting in?
- 35:38The good thing is that if you don't put in Bella goon, you can put in G arena and you
- 35:43can put in some of these other people to, to do a different type of formation without
- 35:48like that, that really speedy, strong striker.
- 35:52But it is a, now you're like, okay, did we get away from the thing?
- 35:55I, I don't think it's the worst thing in the world because Pacino has already proven that
- 35:59he's okay with switching up formations and changing things up mid game, let alone match
- 36:05up to match up.
- 36:06So excited to see what they decide to do.
- 36:08Interested to see what they decide to do.
- 36:10I more than anyone, anything I would, I love that this dude is already thinking in some
- 36:15way, shape.
- 36:16I mean, I don't think he's thinking about golden boot, but he didn't say he was, but
- 36:19I think we all know that's what he's thinking about.
- 36:21And he even said, I want to score.
- 36:23He didn't specifically say the word, but like, but you know what he means?
- 36:26And you know what?
- 36:27Good for him because that means he intends to be in this, in this tournament for as long
- 36:30as humanly possible.
- 36:31And I love that.
- 36:32Absolutely.
- 36:33The one more, the one story I want to hit on, which is a little bit more in our wheelhouse
- 36:37in terms of, or not in a row, it's a, it's very much an Arvin diagram of sports and politics
- 36:41is Jackson Irvine from the soccer ruse of Australia.
- 36:46Speaking about the new rule where you are red carded for covering your mouth while talking
- 36:51to another player.
- 36:52Yes.
- 36:53And this was born out of a racist abuse that was suffered by Vinicius jr.
- 36:59You and I covered that on the podcast at the time when Kate Scott made her Kate Abdo made
- 37:04her entire speech about this.
- 37:07And it was covered very heavily.
- 37:09It was a lightning rod topic, just like anytime a black player comes out and says, I've experienced
- 37:14racial abuse.
- 37:15Of course, there are all the people who say, we don't know what happened.
- 37:19His teammate Mbappé came to his defense.
- 37:23There are, we're talking about two of the most important, most notable soccer players
- 37:28in the world, footballers in the world saying this happened.
- 37:33I heard it.
- 37:34I saw it.
- 37:35And this happened.
- 37:36Clearly someone believed them because this is now in the, in the mainstream.
- 37:38Now, if you don't aren't familiar with Jackson Irvine, who is not the biggest star in the
- 37:42world, but does play in Bundesliga, he's woke.
- 37:47I don't know how else to put it.
- 37:49There's no other way for, we don't have language for what this guy is, but he has point blank
- 37:53come out and said that he supports Palestine and the people of Gaza.
- 37:58No, no two hasn't, hasn't parsed his language.
- 38:01He has talked about why, when he was asked why he supports the people, why he spoke out
- 38:08about it, he said, because I support the people of Palestine and Gaza not being genocided
- 38:15out of existence.
- 38:17He didn't parse his words.
- 38:18He didn't like, he was like, why, why wouldn't I?
- 38:21Even his club was like, who are by and large, pretty allowing of their players to say things
- 38:25like this at the time was like, you sure you want to know that?
- 38:27And he was like, fucking trade me, dude.
- 38:29I don't care.
- 38:30I'm not, you know, he has stood, he has stood 10 toes down on trans rights and the rights
- 38:35of trans women to compete in sports.
- 38:38This is not a regular ass dude.
- 38:40This dude, as a, I always talk to you about every time, occasionally we get a superstar,
- 38:46whether or not an international star, in this case, somebody who's willing to stand
- 38:52on business.
- 38:53We've talked about this with Abdul Carter.
- 38:54There are very few athletes doing this.
- 38:56There's almost no white athletes doing this.
- 38:58And for him to, in his answer regarding this red card situation, say, considering what
- 39:03happened to Vinicius Jr., like what happened to Vinny was, you know, this, that he brought
- 39:08it directly into it.
- 39:09He wasn't asked about it.
- 39:10He named him and he, and he supported him in that moment and also said, if you don't,
- 39:14if you're saying something that where you need to cover your mouth, you probably shouldn't
- 39:17be saying it.
- 39:18Red card.
- 39:19That is what it is.
- 39:20I think that this is the exact example that I've been talking about forever about what
- 39:26it looks like to, to stand on your principles, to stand up and then to watch how you're received
- 39:33as a white person versus a black person, because this guy has been received very well, still
- 39:38has his Bundesliga job, still has his national team job.
- 39:42And he's, you know, said all of these things and he's never backed down.
- 39:47Black players don't always have that same opportunity.
- 39:50And when they do keep their jobs, they are, are ripped apart in the media like Vinny was.
- 39:57This shit is so important.
- 39:59And we don't have anybody in the United States, no professional athletes of his caliber talking
- 40:04like that here.
- 40:06And I just wanted to shout out the fact that like, this didn't actually have to be said.
- 40:09He didn't actually have to bring up the racist abuse and the Vinny of it all.
- 40:13And he did.
- 40:14Well, it gives full context to the actual conversation.
- 40:17And he also gives context to the reporters that are there that already know the story.
- 40:21But for people of a mass audience that might not know the story, because the Venetian,
- 40:24the Venetian junior story was not exactly not big news here.
- 40:28Wide news here.
- 40:29It was huge news elsewhere.
- 40:31Yes.
- 40:32It was on our, our radar.
- 40:33Well, because we rule.
- 40:34Yeah.
- 40:35But at the end of the day, we're not missing a big story in that space.
- 40:39But yeah, this is what it fucking is.
- 40:41So yeah, yeah.
- 40:42I'm glad he said it.
- 40:43And it was.
- 40:44Yeah.
- 40:45And this is like, this is the kind of stuff where it's like, we're talking about the world
- 40:46stage as well.
- 40:47You know that we these are these are times where goalkeepers are getting millions of
- 40:51Instagram followers in a couple of hours.
- 40:53People are watching these clips there.
- 40:56I really don't think I remember a bigger stage.
- 40:59Like I feel like this is bigger than the Olympics in some ways.
- 41:02Like this is fucking nuts.
- 41:03It is bigger than the Olympics.
- 41:04So I mean, like, especially because we just experienced the Winter Olympics, which is
- 41:08always a little bit slower than the Summer Olympics.
- 41:10No one gives a shit.
- 41:11Yeah, right.
- 41:12So that's I think that's all we had for Soccer Day.
- 41:15We're going to get into some fun, looser stuff over in Media Corner.
- 41:19Prove it.
- 41:21This is this is a big one for me, and
- 41:25I want to talk about kind of what it means and what it signals for women in sports.
- 41:30Sports TV trailblazer Linda Cohn is retiring from ESPN after her record setting
- 41:35career.
- 41:36She anchored SportsCenter, more SportsCenter episodes than anyone in ESPN's history,
- 41:42and will retire at the end of June.
- 41:44She will make her final appearance on SportsCenter on Friday.
- 41:47She hosted her first SportsCenter July 11th, 1992, the 2 a.m.
- 41:53edition. Her five thousandth appearance was in 2016,
- 41:59which is crazy. That was already 10 years ago.
- 42:01And she's obviously a Hall of Fame sports media member.
- 42:05She, you know, for me was in my age bracket, I was a little young for Robin Roberts.
- 42:12So by the time I was watching SportsCenter in like the early 2000s,
- 42:18Linda Cohn, big deal for me.
- 42:22She said, what I'm most proud of is that my career lasted long enough for me to see
- 42:26the little girls grow up watching SportsCenter, enter this business and succeed in it.
- 42:31If my journey helps make that path a little easier for them, then that's the achievement
- 42:34I'll cherish most. Of course, I am one of those girls.
- 42:38A hundred percent. I am. Absolutely. There are a few people who like,
- 42:43you don't even always know what's happening, right?
- 42:44Like I'm sure you have people like this in your life where you're like,
- 42:46you don't sit there and think always out loud,
- 42:49I'm going to be Linda Cohn or I'm going to do this because Linda Cohn was on TV.
- 42:52There are a couple of people who absolutely made it clear to me that that was a possibility
- 42:57or something. This was a career path I could achieve.
- 43:00She's one of them. Jackie McMullin's one of them.
- 43:02And I, number one, just want to like,
- 43:07I think it's important that like when, when we talk about this, we look at like,
- 43:10okay, what's the, what's the media landscape that they have trailblazed us to?
- 43:16And we are in a space where like,
- 43:20there are far more SportsCenter anchors or people on TV who are hosting these kinds of,
- 43:25we have woman analysts now like Mina Kimes and,
- 43:29and Laura Rutledge and people who do that work.
- 43:32We have obviously the sideline has become a much more broad job than just like,
- 43:38you know, regurgitating a couple of quotes.
- 43:40There's, they're much more involved.
- 43:42And we also now have women's sports in a huge space of,
- 43:47of real attention that we didn't have before.
- 43:51And so there are a lot of women covering those leagues.
- 43:53We have Doris Burke calling games.
- 43:55We have Julie Fowdy calling games.
- 43:57And we have women who are actually in the broadcast booth calling games.
- 44:01We've seen it in baseball.
- 44:02We've seen it in every single, this is a,
- 44:04that, that is something that I never would have envisioned when I was a kid.
- 44:08However, I also think that there's a way that we are sort of
- 44:13backsliding in terms of women in men's sports and the progress.
- 44:22I think we have stalled out.
- 44:24And I think when I saw that Linda Cohn was retiring,
- 44:29it was like, damn, she got us so far.
- 44:33These women got us so far.
- 44:34We did so much with the opportunities that were given in front of us by these
- 44:37trailblazing women, but we have, this industry has stalled us the fuck out.
- 44:43We are not regressing, but we are not progressing.
- 44:47Okay.
- 44:48And I, I can see that in certain networks.
- 44:50I can see that the opposite in other networks.
- 44:52But you, I, I would honestly make the, I wouldn't say the argument.
- 44:56I just think this whole industry is regressing,
- 44:59let alone just for women in sports.
- 45:01Stalled out.
- 45:02But like that, I think, I think the industry has been eating itself and
- 45:05now there's just less and less actual voices in television and radio in general.
- 45:10We've just seen, there's technically more than ever, but
- 45:13they're just not as high profile, but they're not nearly as high profile.
- 45:15They're not, I'm talking more in the legacy, I'm talking more of the legacy gigs.
- 45:19I would say absolutely because of privately funded things and
- 45:21people on their own, 100% there's no access in there, but there's also more noise.
- 45:26And that's not a fucking good thing.
- 45:27That is honestly a dog shit thing.
- 45:29It makes it impossible to get information.
- 45:31And now we've just created an echo chamber.
- 45:33Now this industry has become the echo chamber that social media is, and
- 45:37that is not what this fucking industry is.
- 45:39So I'd make the argument, yeah, there's more places, quote unquote, but
- 45:42it's not better.
- 45:43I'd honestly say it's not even remotely better.
- 45:45It's ten times worse than it ever was.
- 45:47When you think about like, so you, we grew up with, with like, okay,
- 45:51we know that there were these like mainstay women when we were younger.
- 45:56Are we in a place now where there are more mainstay women?
- 45:59I want to say yes, but I don't know that answer for
- 46:03sure because I don't have the numbers in front of me.
- 46:05I'll use ESPN as a specific example, you know, the Sunday women's sports thing.
- 46:10There are some stars that they've really kind of built on the college women's side
- 46:13and just the women's side in general.
- 46:15I'm talking about men's sports and I specifically said men's sports because
- 46:18women's sports are using women.
- 46:19Yes, and I think they're doing a phenomenal job and creating stars out of it.
- 46:23Now I'm hoping there's going to be more crossing.
- 46:24What I think has happened is they've started saying the women can cover the women's
- 46:27sports.
- 46:28Yeah, I don't want that.
- 46:29See, I think there can be crossover.
- 46:30Because think about it.
- 46:31Like we've got one real, like one real woman's like NFL analyst.
- 46:37You're not wrong.
- 46:38We can talk about, right?
- 46:39Yes.
- 46:40We've got, who's the, who's the women's NBA analyst?
- 46:43You know, Monica, Monica McNutt has done stuff.
- 46:45Monica McNutt for sure.
- 46:46She's doing quite a bit.
- 46:47She's a big one.
- 46:48I mean, there's a few others that do, I mean, few ex WNBA stars that you can definitely
- 46:54see in those, in the panel specifically, but you're absolutely right.
- 46:57Not enough of them.
- 46:58Well, and I guess this is my point is that you'll see in a group with them as well, but
- 47:01like occasionally, right?
- 47:02Not enough.
- 47:03And that's the thing is like, we are, we can still name on two hands, the women who are
- 47:09really standing out to us who are covering men's sports.
- 47:12I, that's about the same as it was 25 years ago.
- 47:17You're not wrong.
- 47:18I suppose I just, it's just counting blinded to it because of how many women I am actually
- 47:21seeing because women's sports are women on the, like you've, I mean, you've had multiple
- 47:24women.
- 47:25So maybe I'm, I might be a little blinded to this a little bit more than others are.
- 47:28Yeah.
- 47:29And I think, and I think that there's like a, um, there's also a regression, which is
- 47:33very clear.
- 47:34There's a regression just in the reception around women in sports.
- 47:36I have seen it.
- 47:37I came into the industry in 2010 and of course there was always a very specific vibe of like,
- 47:43you were always going to get the, go make a sandwich.
- 47:45People go to the kitchen, right?
- 47:47But like the, uh, the, the conversation around it has gotten so toxic for men and women.
- 47:53So you know, you and I, we probably experienced, uh, pretty similar levels of toxicity on the
- 47:59internet.
- 48:00Obviously you're getting, you know, you're not getting sexism.
- 48:02I'm getting, you're getting more like, uh, you know, other stuff, but we're both dealing
- 48:07with a similar level of toxicity minds, a lot more sexist and massages.
- 48:11The difference is that when to, when, you know, when you and I are getting that kind
- 48:16of that, that same level of toxicity across league wide, or I guess like on the macro
- 48:22level, it's going to hurt me more because of the fact that I'm already technically marginalized
- 48:27in sports media.
- 48:28Right.
- 48:29So like if I am, if I'm getting that much toxicity and I'm bringing that much attention
- 48:34to myself, what are networks going to look at?
- 48:37What are, what are directors going to look at?
- 48:39What are, you know, network owners and all these presidents there, Oh, you're always
- 48:43going to get a better bet, a bigger benefit of doubt than I am.
- 48:46That is purely misogyny.
- 48:47We've seen it and it'll continue.
- 48:50And that means we have not made the progress that we need to make.
- 48:52And I, um, and I think about, you know, what the best way to honor the legacy of these
- 48:59people would be the Robin Roberts, the Jack, the Linda cones, the Jackie max, the Leslie's
- 49:03to all of them is in some way, shape or form to be allowed to do what the men do, how the
- 49:10men do it in our own way and in our own space and in the ways that are unique to women and
- 49:16not having to mimic how men behave.
- 49:18And we have not arrived there and we're really not close.
- 49:22And um, you know, my mission is that in 20 years I'm looking back and seeing women not
- 49:27get punished for the things that I'm getting punished for now.
- 49:30Um, and you know, uh, that's, that's kind of, it's, it's, it's bittersweet.
- 49:37It's bittersweet to know we made the progress.
- 49:40And also I think that if it had gone the way it was supposed to go, if people had learned
- 49:45the right lessons from someone like Linda Cohn, if they'd learned the right lessons
- 49:49from someone like Mina Kimes, if they'd learned the right lessons from someone like Monica
- 49:52McNutt, we would, we would be a broader part of the conversation rather than the tokenized
- 49:58few.
- 49:59Yeah.
- 50:00Um, we'll just use an example from earlier on in the show when we're talking about Becky
- 50:03Hammond and her comments towards Jalen Brunson.
- 50:05You know who else said that about Jalen Brunson?
- 50:07Fucking everyone.
- 50:08Yeah.
- 50:09We're vilifying Becky Hammond for some fucking reason.
- 50:12And I believe I saw Stephen, a switch go on a fucking stage with some of the Knicks yesterday.
- 50:17So everyone can just fuck right off.
- 50:19I'm sorry.
- 50:20You don't like women.
- 50:21They're probably smarter than you and better than you at fucking everything.
- 50:23Probably beat your ass in an arm wrestling competition too.
- 50:25Yeah.
- 50:26I want to, did you see my rant about that this weekend?
- 50:28Oh, I went on a rant about that.
- 50:30I was like, I'm like, you guys have got to get over the fact that like when, like the,
- 50:36the need to dehumanize a woman who's smarter than you, what, because you like, you know,
- 50:42it's like, okay, I can't fuck them and I can't beat them in a debate and now they need to
- 50:45be put in their place.
- 50:46Cause those things bother me.
- 50:47I can't like you say what you want to say to me, cause I can always handle it.
- 50:51I absolutely have all the ability to handle that.
- 50:53But like you have like wives, mothers, daughters, friends, like you gotta get a grip on your
- 50:59ability to, to recognize this woman is really smart.
- 51:02I can learn from her, from her.
- 51:03I really enjoy the, what work she's doing and it's okay that I'm attracted to her and
- 51:07also can't do anything about it.
- 51:09You have to learn to be okay with that.
- 51:11Like we've got to get to a place where you're okay with that because that is at the, it's
- 51:14at, it's at the core of so much of the misogyny that I experienced, which is it, they immediately
- 51:19go to go back to the strip joint, go back to your only fans.
- 51:24Don't be such a fucking whore.
- 51:26Why are you naked on the internet?
- 51:27And it's always like you're going to very sexualized industries because your first thought
- 51:32is why is she attractive and smarter than me?
- 51:35And that's like that, that is that instills a fucking anger and fear and rage in them.
- 51:41And that's simply so deeply not my fucking problem.
- 51:45And if you're making it my problem, you're making it the women in your life's problem.
- 51:49And that freaks me out.
- 51:50It really does get a grip.
- 51:53I'm well aware that little bitch bullies exist.
- 51:57Whatever happened to admiring someone from afar and enjoying that, admire me from afar.
- 52:01I'm fine with that.
- 52:02I never told you not to, I put my knees out on the internet, all the goddamn time for
- 52:06your pleasure.
- 52:07That is, I'm doing that for you people.
- 52:09Take it, take it, enjoy it.
- 52:11Don't tell me to take it.
- 52:12Those guys don't like it when you tell them to take it.
- 52:17That's just, they're just a bunch of little bitch boys.
- 52:18It's just what it is.
- 52:19What are you going to do?
- 52:20Speaking of bitch boys, Skip Bayless was talking.
- 52:23Skip Bayless was talking.
- 52:25This one fucking kills me.
- 52:26This is this.
- 52:27So this is peak brain rot.
- 52:28This is exactly what you were talking about, where we have gotten to the point where it's
- 52:33just an echo chamber of the stupidest takes on the internet have become what mainstream
- 52:37famous sports media people are saying.
- 52:40Skip Bayless.
- 52:41Okay.
- 52:42Okay.
- 52:43So Skip Bayless tweeted, commenter just ruined the moment by comparing Messi with Michael
- 52:50Jordan and LeBron.
- 52:52So naive.
- 52:53So wrong.
- 52:54So blasphemous.
- 52:55MJ.
- 52:56Yes.
- 52:57LBJ.
- 52:58No.
- 52:59Now we know that this is Skip Bayless's move.
- 53:03We know what he's doing here.
- 53:05Obviously this is of course rage bait.
- 53:08That does not change the fact that he does not have the shame or embarrassment to not
- 53:12tweet something like this.
- 53:14And here's what I want to know.
- 53:18At what point do we just put him in a home?
- 53:23Well, put him and Steven in a home together so they can live out their best Grace and
- 53:26Frankie life.
- 53:28But at what point do we acknowledge that LeBron lives rent free in the heads of these sports
- 53:36media talking heads more than anyone I've ever seen?
- 53:39How did LeBron end up with catching a stray when the most obvious comparison for someone
- 53:47like Messi is absolutely LeBron based on the fact that they are the same fucking age
- 53:53have been playing at the same time and have longevity in their favor.
- 53:57And that's the whole point of the God damn like comparison.
- 54:03That's the whole point of the comparison.
- 54:04We're not talking about titles because you want to know what's really fucking fascinating
- 54:08about Messi.
- 54:09He only became a really elite international player in the last handful of years.
- 54:16This is a new chapter for him over the last five, six years to be an elite international
- 54:22player.
- 54:23Of course, he was always elite like and yes, he was great.
- 54:26But like this was he was a club star and he was rocking it in Europe.
- 54:34This is evidence of his longevity.
- 54:36Who do we associate with longevity in the United States?
- 54:42Tom Brady, LeBron, Serena.
- 54:45Who are those people?
- 54:47Am I like what the fuck are we talking about anymore?
- 54:48Why is LeBron always such a trigger issue for people?
- 54:51Can someone in the chat tell me if you hate LeBron, can you tell me why it's such a trigger
- 54:54when people are compared to LeBron as a goat?
- 54:57Like what are you okay?
- 54:59Is everything okay at home?
- 55:00Like what the fuck is wrong with you people?
- 55:03Honestly, this is just brain rot and a guy who literally the only thing that he had in
- 55:08his arsenal towards the end of his career was just trying to shit on LeBron.
- 55:12You say that, but there will be several people in the chat or our comments who are like,
- 55:16he's actually kind of right.
- 55:17That was Tonya.
- 55:19Those are fucking idiots.
- 55:20No, those are our viewers.
- 55:21I respect them.
- 55:22But those ones that are saying that out loud, come on, they're fucking idiots.
- 55:26And they know that I love and respect the love of God.
- 55:30Are you guys being idiots on purpose just to trigger?
- 55:32Because at the end of the day, if there is a single human being that has anything negative
- 55:37to say about LeBron James longevity career path or fucking anything, they're just a fucking
- 55:45idiot.
- 55:46There is nothing else to say.
- 55:47There's no conversations of comparing from this guy to this guy.
- 55:50You're just a fucking idiot.
- 55:52Now.
- 55:53Yes.
- 55:54The end.
- 55:55It's just, this is the most tired old man shit that just to get attention.
- 55:59And I honestly, I'm not even giving it attention that, that I'm like mad at him.
- 56:04I I'm finding this to be fucking sad.
- 56:07This is sad.
- 56:08Now I find this incredibly sad.
- 56:11You're like this old withering 78 year old man.
- 56:16It's fun.
- 56:17You think this is like great clickbait from 2009.
- 56:19It's not anymore.
- 56:21This is just the ramblings of a sad old man that no one gives a fuck about.
- 56:25And I'm, and I'm loving that Steven A. Smith and people are starting to see this about
- 56:28this dipshit.
- 56:30I'm glad some of you are starting to open your eyes.
- 56:33It's just a shitty, stupid grift.
- 56:36It's annoying.
- 56:38It's the same thing.
- 56:39It's a weak playbook.
- 56:40Fucking stop looking at the dumb playbook and just fucking learn.
- 56:46It's like what we talked about in the show last time, or it was like the playing to the
- 56:49lowest common denominator.
- 56:51What's the stupidest fan going to think?
- 56:53And if you have that opinion, it works because it caters to the stupidest fan.
- 56:57And then it makes the people who actually have an understanding of any level of nuance,
- 57:01very angry.
- 57:02Um, and in the conversation, so the sidetrack, the thing I wanted to talk to you about, which
- 57:08is something I'm sure you've seen a lot is the conversation around Messi versus Ronaldo.
- 57:12Okay.
- 57:13So this is for, this is for you.
- 57:14It's for our viewers.
- 57:16It's for our listeners.
- 57:17It's for whoever wants to feel a little bit more knowledgeable about this conversation
- 57:22because what I have been seeing happen on the internet because of the phenomenons you
- 57:27just mentioned is nobody seems to understand why Messi and why Ronaldo would even be mentioned
- 57:33in the same breath as Lionel Messi.
- 57:35This is like, it has become a thing where it's like, that's a fucking joke.
- 57:39Why would anybody even say that?
- 57:41It is constant.
- 57:42I'm seeing it all the time, all the time.
- 57:45And uh, as somebody who's been watching the sport the entire time, I have to tell you,
- 57:51that's a conversation that's been being had and was being had for a long time.
- 57:55And just like in other goat conversations, perhaps like a Brady Manning situation or
- 58:00whatever else, one player continues on and just surpasses the other.
- 58:06And it was absolutely a conversation for a long time.
- 58:07And I just want to, we're going to set some things straight here.
- 58:10Sure.
- 58:11Okay.
- 58:12So Messi versus Ronaldo.
- 58:13Now, Ronaldo is two years older than Lionel Messi.
- 58:15Okay.
- 58:16Career goals.
- 58:17Lionel Messi has 916, Cristiano Ronaldo has 973.
- 58:23Lionel Messi has about 150 more assists than Cristiano Ronaldo, understandable based on
- 58:28the way they play their position.
- 58:32Ballon d'Ors, Ballon d'Ors, Lionel Messi has eight, Cristiano Ronaldo has five.
- 58:40European gold shoes, Lionel Messi has six, Cristiano Ronaldo has four.
- 58:45FIFA World Cups, Lionel Messi, after the last one, had one.
- 58:49He has one.
- 58:50He won one.
- 58:51It was the last, Cristiano Ronaldo has zero.
- 58:54Now bear in mind, Cristiano Ronaldo is from Portugal.
- 58:56Okay.
- 58:57Fair enough.
- 59:00Continental trophies, which for Messi is Copa America and for Cristiano Ronaldo is Euros
- 59:05and Nations League.
- 59:06Cristiano Ronaldo has three, Messi has two.
- 59:09Cristiano Ronaldo has five Champions League wins, Messi has four.
- 59:14For years, they had a massive rivalry between Real Madrid and Barcelona.
- 59:18Obviously, the two greats going up against each other all that time, Ronaldo came out
- 59:23on top in those with Real Madrid.
- 59:25These are the kinds of conversations that led to that debate happening and at his peak,
- 59:33Cristiano Ronaldo was absolutely the best player in the world even while Messi was playing.
- 59:39That has since changed and it started to change a long time ago.
- 59:44Their styles are different and I believe Messi, his style was made for longevity and he is
- 59:51just naturally the better player across the course of his career, start to finish.
- 59:56He is fucking crushed.
- 59:57Winning a World Cup is always going to give you the edge.
- 1:00:00Absolutely.
- 1:00:01Winning more Ballon d'Or is absolutely going to give you the edge, but we do not have to
- 1:00:05live in a world where we don't understand why the one B is Cristiano Ronaldo.
- 1:00:10That's very easy to understand.
- 1:00:12That is very fucking easy.
- 1:00:13We don't need to be dumb about this.
- 1:00:16I don't want us after this wonderful World Cup time, this wonderful World Cup where we've
- 1:00:21hosted it and just delighted in football to come out of this being the motherfucking
- 1:00:26stupid Americans who can't because we know Skip Bayless can't possibly have a goat debate.
- 1:00:31We know.
- 1:00:32Oh my God.
- 1:00:33God forbid.
- 1:00:34He's had one debate for the last 25.
- 1:00:35We don't.
- 1:00:36We don't have to be like that, guys.
- 1:00:37We can be better.
- 1:00:38We can.
- 1:00:39We can do this for the football world community and say we understand why the conversation
- 1:00:45existed before.
- 1:00:46How incredible all time fucking one of the greatest players of all time, Cristiano Ronaldo
- 1:00:51is and also say Messi surpassed him.
- 1:00:54That's the go.
- 1:00:55We can.
- 1:00:56We can do it all, guys.
- 1:00:57I really believe in us.
- 1:00:58And I just wanted to make that clear.
- 1:01:00Yeah, it's not going to happen.
- 1:01:02Oh, you don't think so?
- 1:01:03Nope.
- 1:01:04Nope.
- 1:01:05We're going to.
- 1:01:06There's not going to be nuance in this.
- 1:01:07There's never going to be context taken in this.
- 1:01:08And right now, frankly, people are seeing what's in front of them right now.
- 1:01:11This is this is a real first time option for all the Americans right now who are seeing
- 1:01:16both of these guys really play in our actual time zone for the first time in a World Cup
- 1:01:20scenario.
- 1:01:21He's 41.
- 1:01:22Do a little bit of research.
- 1:01:23I'm agreeing with you.
- 1:01:24I'm not yelling at you.
- 1:01:25I'm just being realistic.
- 1:01:26I'm not yelling at you.
- 1:01:27One of them is 41 years old and is not the same guy anymore.
- 1:01:30And there's nothing wrong with that.
- 1:01:31And by the way, oh, let's make clear, insufferable.
- 1:01:35Yeah, absolutely.
- 1:01:36Fucking insufferable.
- 1:01:37Insufferable.
- 1:01:38To boot.
- 1:01:39His teammates clearly fucking hate him.
- 1:01:41I will say I don't necessarily fully agree with that assessment as they are very annoyed
- 1:01:48at him right now.
- 1:01:50I think they're annoyed by the questions.
- 1:01:52And I do think that they're like, I wish this motherfucker just wasn't starting.
- 1:01:55Yes, I don't think they hate that.
- 1:01:57Like quite literally, Portugal, like owes everything about where they're at in the world
- 1:02:01stage.
- 1:02:02Cristiano.
- 1:02:03I couldn't agree more.
- 1:02:04So are we?
- 1:02:05Listen, I'm focused on the right now.
- 1:02:06And what I saw in that last game was Cristiano Ronaldo cost them the game, not help them.
- 1:02:13He shouldn't be out there at the moment to come in as a super sub with fucking 15 minutes
- 1:02:18to go.
- 1:02:19That's what he needs to do.
- 1:02:20And I don't know why he won't.
- 1:02:21But I do know why he won't because he's Cristiano.
- 1:02:23That being said, that doesn't mean he's not one of the greatest of all time, if not the
- 1:02:26one B that you just said, he's just 41 years old thinking he's still 30 fucking five right
- 1:02:31now.
- 1:02:32And I think that's funny.
- 1:02:33I'm enjoying this because he's kind of a cocky prick that I like seeing fall kind of on his
- 1:02:39face.
- 1:02:40Does it take away from his borderline goat status?
- 1:02:42No, no.
- 1:02:43And I mean, really, I am going to enjoy it.
- 1:02:46I say he's one beat a messy in terms of their era, but like we can't.
- 1:02:50I mean, there's Diego Maradona.
- 1:02:51There's Pele.
- 1:02:52Like there are some people in that conversation that are just like a totally different ball.
- 1:02:55There's Mbappe who could finally win the world cup.
- 1:02:58Okay.
- 1:02:59Stop saying that.
- 1:03:00People don't know the context.
- 1:03:02Well, Google it.
- 1:03:03Finally.
- 1:03:04Okay.
- 1:03:05Yeah.
- 1:03:06Well, you know, he's been at it for a long time.
- 1:03:08So long.
- 1:03:09You know, he's been trying.
- 1:03:10When's it going to happen?
- 1:03:11I don't know.
- 1:03:122019.
- 1:03:13No, but well, he didn't.
- 1:03:14The thing is, I genuinely really believe, well, we also had the pandemic thing.
- 1:03:15So who the fuck knows?
- 1:03:16It was in that.
- 1:03:17It was in that window.
- 1:03:18Yeah.
- 1:03:19Fucked up.
- 1:03:20I genuinely believe that we can do better in these, I think my, you know what, I think
- 1:03:33I just decided, Cody, I have a mission, I have a mission statement to as a through line
- 1:03:38for our podcast.
- 1:03:40I think we can make goat debates great again.
- 1:03:43No, I think we can't.
- 1:03:44No, you and I can.
- 1:03:45We absolutely can.
- 1:03:46We possess the nuance.
- 1:03:47No, I have really fun.
- 1:03:48Interesting conversations.
- 1:03:49That's what I'm saying.
- 1:03:53That feeling that you're having is because of everybody else.
- 1:03:55We can change the narrative.
- 1:03:58We, we can change our personal relationship to the trauma we have around goat debates.
- 1:04:02We can do that.
- 1:04:03I'm also firmly against anything, making anything great again.
- 1:04:06Well, we can make it enjoyable again.
- 1:04:10We can make it.
- 1:04:11The context of something, something again, it's just something I don't want to be a part
- 1:04:15of anymore.
- 1:04:16We can make it cool for the first time.
- 1:04:19If we add a lot more syllables and more words, we can make it really fun, sexy, cool for
- 1:04:23the first time ever.
- 1:04:24That sounds like a TLC album.
- 1:04:25Yeah, it's supposed to.
- 1:04:26I like what you're doing.
- 1:04:27Okay.
- 1:04:28Thank you.
- 1:04:29You're getting me on board.
- 1:04:30All right.
- 1:04:31Do you want to talk about some movies?
- 1:04:32I would like to talk about movies.
- 1:04:33Let's go to pop culture corner.
- 1:04:34I love that.
- 1:04:35Cody, you actually mentioned this to me that you're kind of hype about where the movie
- 1:04:42situation is at right now.
- 1:04:43It looks like we might be having a movie resurgence summer.
- 1:04:45So I saw Obsession finally, and it really, really kind of made me think a little bit
- 1:04:50and talk about it because there's one thing that is absolutely...
- 1:04:53Throughout these last couple of years, we've been watching movies kind of be subsided and
- 1:04:56kind of take a backseat and not making the money it once did.
- 1:05:00That being said, I do think there are outlier years, and I do think that certain things
- 1:05:04become passe.
- 1:05:05We go through modes every few years.
- 1:05:06The Western was the biggest thing in the world.
- 1:05:08Then science fiction became the biggest thing in the world.
- 1:05:10Then the 80s horror slasher became the biggest thing in the world.
- 1:05:14Then the action years became the biggest thing in the world.
- 1:05:16And then it was like apocalypse action movies.
- 1:05:19Yeah, then gritty films became the thing in the world in the 70s.
- 1:05:23We go in these ebbs and flows where things need to be splashy, then things need to be
- 1:05:27bleak, and then things need to be splashy, then things need to be bleak, and we're kind
- 1:05:30of in the middle in between right now as far as a movie audience goes.
- 1:05:35But there's one thing that seems like we're getting back to a bleak time again because
- 1:05:39One thing that's been making money in theaters, unquestionably, especially even exponential
- 1:05:44rate based on their budgets, has been horror movies.
- 1:05:47That's not new though.
- 1:05:48That is not new.
- 1:05:49That's actually been an evergreen thing across horror for a long time.
- 1:05:53But it's been even more exponential as of late because there's been more influxes of
- 1:05:57one, young filmmakers.
- 1:05:58There's been more influx of...
- 1:06:00Almost like a post-COVID.
- 1:06:02Very much so, and new ways of making films, which by the way, could be for better or for
- 1:06:05worse as time goes forward.
- 1:06:07We'll see how that goes.
- 1:06:08But you're also still getting your tentpoles.
- 1:06:10I do think, and I have a theory, that this summer is going to be a big, massive comeback
- 1:06:14for the cinema industry.
- 1:06:15Now, there have been some missteps already.
- 1:06:17We've already seen that The Mandalorian and Grogu, which I will freely admit was a movie
- 1:06:20I'm a Star Wars fan, I didn't want to see.
- 1:06:23I didn't.
- 1:06:24It just wasn't interesting to me.
- 1:06:25And I actually really loved the first season of The Mandalorian.
- 1:06:27I like...
- 1:06:28Who doesn't like Grogu?
- 1:06:29He's so cute.
- 1:06:30I love him.
- 1:06:31But that show kind of fell off a little bit in the third season, and frankly...
- 1:06:33Now, if they had done Andor and Grogu...
- 1:06:35Oh my goodness.
- 1:06:36Andor was a masterpiece of a show.
- 1:06:38Although we can't do that.
- 1:06:39That being said, watching as cinema's going forward, we're going to get some of those
- 1:06:43tentpoles coming out.
- 1:06:44People who think there's superhero fatigue.
- 1:06:46I do think there's an aspect of that that is true.
- 1:06:49But I think it's fatigue of shit superhero content.
- 1:06:51Marvel has kind of had some misfires over the last couple of years.
- 1:06:55There's also the narrative about them putting out products that really were very much unfinished.
- 1:07:00And part of that is COVID.
- 1:07:01Part of that is how money was allocated.
- 1:07:03That was part of that was a mandate from Disney saying, we have to keep putting out more and
- 1:07:06more and more fucking content.
- 1:07:08And I understood that during the COVID era.
- 1:07:11But after that, the content had to kind of spit her out because people weren't seeing
- 1:07:14the content because the content factory was just becoming shitty.
- 1:07:18And now you have an opportunity from DC right now.
- 1:07:21They're kind of taking their times with their new novel approach.
- 1:07:23That being said, we have a Supergirl movie.
- 1:07:25I'm interested to see what it's going to look like.
- 1:07:27Yeah.
- 1:07:28I have not been able to stay excited about Superman or Supergirl.
- 1:07:32I want to see it very much, but I do think that's a movie that's not going to do well
- 1:07:35its first week.
- 1:07:36It's a good movie.
- 1:07:37If it's a good movie, the word of mouth can kind of carry it along a little bit.
- 1:07:39Who's directing it?
- 1:07:40That is a good question.
- 1:07:41I actually don't know the answer to that.
- 1:07:44But then you also have the new Spider-Man movie, which you know is going to make a billion
- 1:07:47dollars.
- 1:07:48And I love the Spider-Man.
- 1:07:49I got to admit, it looks fantastic.
- 1:07:51You have the Odyssey.
- 1:07:52We know that's going to make a billion dollars.
- 1:07:53I already got my ticket to that.
- 1:07:56We have a big amount of summer blockbusters that I am actually quite excited to go and
- 1:08:01see, along with a lot of movies that are very low budget that I want to see.
- 1:08:06I wanted to finally see Obsession.
- 1:08:08It was fantastic.
- 1:08:09I look forward to seeing it possibly again.
- 1:08:11Back Rooms intrigues me, but I looked at the plot and I'm like, I don't know if I can get
- 1:08:15into this.
- 1:08:16It seems a little Slenderman-esque to me, and that's not really my thing.
- 1:08:22That being said, it's getting very good reviews and it's making an outrageous amount of money.
- 1:08:26I think the one thing I'm going to pause on or maybe push back on or whatever is everything
- 1:08:33you're talking about right now outside of the horror space, which again is where this
- 1:08:37always happens.
- 1:08:38We always get original IP in horror.
- 1:08:42We're talking about Spider-Man and Supergirl and the Odyssey.
- 1:08:46We're talking about, and I think the real resurgence is always when we start seeing
- 1:08:50more original IP.
- 1:08:53When we start seeing broader genres coming in and doing really well.
- 1:08:58When was the last time we had a really successful rom-com in the movies?
- 1:09:02When was the last time we had a really successful dark comedy in the movies?
- 1:09:07When I see that stuff, we lived through the heyday of comedies.
- 1:09:10Yes, we did.
- 1:09:11Yes, we did.
- 1:09:12Heyday of rom-coms.
- 1:09:13Yes, we did.
- 1:09:14I would say from the 90s into the 2000s.
- 1:09:16No question.
- 1:09:18After that was just truly fucking blockbuster comedies.
- 1:09:22Those are the things that I feel like when we see those start to happen, because that's
- 1:09:27what we're missing.
- 1:09:30Those movies go to Netflix or they go to Amazon or they go to Hulu or they go to Peacock.
- 1:09:34They don't go to the movies.
- 1:09:37I miss that experience.
- 1:09:39I absolutely do too.
- 1:09:41The thing is, I think it's a marketing issue, obviously, because you have to give people
- 1:09:44a reason to spend their money to go to the fucking movies.
- 1:09:48See me, the movies I want to go see are at a smaller theater.
- 1:09:52If it's a big tentpole film, of course, I want to see that in an AMC or something like
- 1:09:55that.
- 1:09:56For the most part, I'd rather be in a small movie theater, and those are becoming harder
- 1:09:58and harder to find these days.
- 1:09:59I miss the Landmark so much.
- 1:10:00God, the Landmark.
- 1:10:01I miss the Landmark so fucking much.
- 1:10:03Those of you that don't know, the Landmark was a theater down on Pico in West Los Angeles.
- 1:10:10My God, it was my favorite movie theater in the world.
- 1:10:13I would go out of my way just to go to that movie theater all the time.
- 1:10:16It's not really out of the way for you.
- 1:10:17It's not that far.
- 1:10:18No, it's fairly close, but man, I just loved that place.
- 1:10:21My other favorite place is the Arrow Theater, which is right up here, but it's not like
- 1:10:24it's a comfortable place.
- 1:10:25It's an old movie theater, and that's part of its charm.
- 1:10:30If you wanted to see ... The best thing about it, and this is what we lost, when we lost
- 1:10:34theaters like the Landmark, which was the premier theater to do that at in Los Angeles
- 1:10:39on the west side, was that we lost the opportunity to go and see all the Oscar winners and the
- 1:10:46prestige movies or whatever in a place where they would be playing ...
- 1:10:50But they'd also be playing Indiana Jones.
- 1:10:52Yes.
- 1:10:53Yeah.
- 1:10:54And so you had a real theater experience, but you also ... They would do the director's
- 1:10:57cuts and then the director would show up and talk.
- 1:10:59I loved them.
- 1:11:00I would do it all the time.
- 1:11:01I remember I saw both Che, part one and two, and saw with a Q&A afterwards with Steven
- 1:11:05Soderbergh.
- 1:11:06Yes.
- 1:11:07And it was phenomenal.
- 1:11:08Phenomenal stuff.
- 1:11:09Those to me, that was the perfect theater going experience.
- 1:11:12Really nice bar right there.
- 1:11:13Very much so.
- 1:11:14And restaurant, by the way.
- 1:11:15Bar and restaurant.
- 1:11:16Exactly.
- 1:11:17It was fantastic.
- 1:11:18So we don't even have that anymore.
- 1:11:20In a movie town like Los Angeles, that was one thing, and I should say, moving out here,
- 1:11:26that was one thing where I was like, oh, people weren't lying when they said this is actually
- 1:11:30a better town to see a movie.
- 1:11:32100%.
- 1:11:33I didn't ... It always sounds a little pretentious, right?
- 1:11:35But I say the same thing about I actually don't think that this is a great town to see
- 1:11:38live music in.
- 1:11:39I think I love seeing live music a lot better in other places.
- 1:11:42This is not a great live music city.
- 1:11:43It has beautiful venues.
- 1:11:44It has incredible venues, but this is not a great live music city.
- 1:11:48I don't think it's a great theater city.
- 1:11:49I don't think it's a great theater city.
- 1:11:50The vibe.
- 1:11:51If I see theater, that's New York City.
- 1:11:52No, I'm talking about bands.
- 1:11:55There are 15 cities in this country where I have been, where just the ... It doesn't
- 1:12:01matter.
- 1:12:02The Greek, all the incredible places that you have to see music here, they just don't
- 1:12:08compare to the crowds and whatever.
- 1:12:10It's not the musicians.
- 1:12:11It's the crowds.
- 1:12:12No, no.
- 1:12:13I hear what you're saying, but the Hollywood Bowl is my favorite place to go.
- 1:12:15That's fine.
- 1:12:16And you grew up in Los Angeles, and I understand that that's special to you, but it just doesn't
- 1:12:18the environments of live music.
- 1:12:21The crowds are never what they should be.
- 1:12:24Think about the best time you had at the Hollywood Bowl, the greatest crowd you ever experienced.
- 1:12:28It just doesn't compare to seeing live music in other cities.
- 1:12:32I will say, though, it's the exact opposite, seeing movies out here.
- 1:12:37The opportunity to see movies in a place where people really cared about movies was something
- 1:12:41I genuinely didn't recognize until I moved to Los Angeles.
- 1:12:46Seeing these great films in these nice theaters that were designed to cater to film lovers
- 1:12:53and being in a place where we all really cared, and this is pre-COVID.
- 1:12:58This is what I'm talking about.
- 1:12:59The place was special.
- 1:13:00It was special.
- 1:13:01And there would be a buzz in the city when there was a movie that everybody was talking
- 1:13:05about.
- 1:13:06Yes, there was.
- 1:13:07That was a real fucking thing.
- 1:13:08A real thing.
- 1:13:09Word of mouth was a real thing out here, big time.
- 1:13:10I loved it.
- 1:13:11I loved it.
- 1:13:12The billboards were everywhere.
- 1:13:13We don't even have that the way that we used to.
- 1:13:16I miss that so much.
- 1:13:19And I think that the real sign is when we do start getting buzz about movies that are
- 1:13:28not mainstream, like the way that we used to, where it would be like, oh, that movie
- 1:13:32was out in LA three weeks ago.
- 1:13:34They just heard about it in New York.
- 1:13:36No, I agree.
- 1:13:37But I do think we're getting a smattering of that along with some big temples that I
- 1:13:40do think can bring in the big numbers as well.
- 1:13:44And if that happens, I'm hoping that is a carryover into the award season, which happens
- 1:13:47in the Novembers and the Decembers.
- 1:13:50But you're not wrong.
- 1:13:51You know what got me to go to the theaters for that?
- 1:13:53Wasn't theater like the landmark that showed everything there, the art house pictures along
- 1:13:58with the temple pictures.
- 1:14:01We don't have nearly enough of that here.
- 1:14:03Now there's some good AMCs out here.
- 1:14:05Yeah, absolutely.
- 1:14:06I mean, yeah.
- 1:14:07But it's still like, listen, it's still an AMC.
- 1:14:09You still feel like you're in a fucking theme park.
- 1:14:11Yeah.
- 1:14:13That's where we usually see most of our movies is the Cinemark.
- 1:14:16Love a Cinemark.
- 1:14:17Great.
- 1:14:18Yeah.
- 1:14:19Great bars and food and whatever and all the great fancy seats.
- 1:14:20But I don't feel like an adult.
- 1:14:22I feel like I'm walking into a Universal Studios.
- 1:14:25And you know, I used to take my mom to the landmark all the time and she would agree.
- 1:14:28She loves the fancy seats at the Cinemark.
- 1:14:30She loves to be able to recline.
- 1:14:32But if I told her the landmark opened up and we can back up and we could go to it, she'd
- 1:14:36be in a heartbeat.
- 1:14:37She'd be like, we're doing that.
- 1:14:38100%.
- 1:14:39Yes, yes, yes.
- 1:14:40To your point, like, I am really excited for what like the summer, the summer blockbusters
- 1:14:48could bring.
- 1:14:49I, by the way, never saw, wait, wait, wait, I want to correct somebody over here because
- 1:14:54I have to correct this.
- 1:14:55I'm sorry.
- 1:14:56I'm feeling fortunate that Detroit has smaller theaters and great smaller concert venues.
- 1:15:00I'm surprised that way.
- 1:15:01It does.
- 1:15:02Tanya's a fucking lunatic.
- 1:15:04Los Angeles has the most amount of the Whiskey a Go Go, the Troubadour, the Roxy.
- 1:15:09And then huge.
- 1:15:10What did I, what did I just say?
- 1:15:11You're talking big venues.
- 1:15:12I know.
- 1:15:13No, I said, I literally, hold on.
- 1:15:16I said, they have incredible venues.
- 1:15:18Yeah, but you hit the crowds, you should say.
- 1:15:21I love the Troubadour.
- 1:15:23It is my favorite place to see music.
- 1:15:25It's the only place that I think it compares to other places that I've been in the country.
- 1:15:30The Troubadour to me gives me the vibe that I get other places.
- 1:15:34What he's talking about is correct.
- 1:15:36It is better to see music in Detroit.
- 1:15:38He's not wrong.
- 1:15:39And it's, and it's not the venues.
- 1:15:41The venues here fucking rule killer.
- 1:15:44People here aren't music fans in the same way.
- 1:15:46I don't know if it is the vibe, if there's so many transplants bringing different tastes,
- 1:15:50different whatever.
- 1:15:51I don't know what it is.
- 1:15:52I've never been able to put my finger on it, but I'm not the only one who said it.
- 1:15:55Like literally everybody who's not an LA transplant that I have talked to or, or who is, or who
- 1:16:00has, isn't an LA native.
- 1:16:03It is, it's, I don't know how to explain it other than to say, I never go to a concert
- 1:16:06and think these people suck, but it's always missing the next level of the experience I've
- 1:16:12had in other places.
- 1:16:13Okay.
- 1:16:14I think there's, there must be eras involved in this and this must be a much more nuanced
- 1:16:17and newer era because I've grown up in Los Angeles through multiple eras where even before
- 1:16:23my time, let's say in the seventies where Hollywood Boulevard was crazy.
- 1:16:26Then the eighties when it was really fucking crazy.
- 1:16:29Then it kind of died out in the nineties because everything moved to kind of Seattle.
- 1:16:32Then the two thousands early, it really picked back up in LA.
- 1:16:36It's not to say that the incredible music and incredible venues aren't here.
- 1:16:39Like that's, that's in our arguable.
- 1:16:41This is one of the biggest cities and one of the most cultural cities in the country.
- 1:16:44So incredible bands, incredible moments, the Troubadour and the, and these places are,
- 1:16:49are truly iconic for a reason.
- 1:16:52Someone would actually like to know, is it better than Boston?
- 1:16:54Because I actually don't know the answer.
- 1:16:55No, Boston is a much better music city.
- 1:16:57Really?
- 1:16:58Yeah.
- 1:16:59It's a much better place to see if you, so like the paradise is something like, is like
- 1:17:01something like the Troubadour, right?
- 1:17:03There's like these clubs there that were like, I would go to and whatever.
- 1:17:06And the crowds are really different.
- 1:17:09And the, it's never that the musician is playing better in Boston than they are in Los Angeles.
- 1:17:13It's or in better in, you know, Philly than they are in Los Angeles.
- 1:17:17It is always about like being in the crowd and how they're experiencing the music and
- 1:17:24how that like energy is being built in it.
- 1:17:26Like that's the whole thing about live music is the energy of the crowd.
- 1:17:29That's the biggest thing.
- 1:17:30And you know, like, it just is, I think, I do think that there is a, like a, a disconnect
- 1:17:37in some way, shape or form.
- 1:17:38I think a lot of people in Los Angeles, I feel this way about Lakers games.
- 1:17:41And I think this translates to a lot of like concert going experiences, even in these smaller
- 1:17:45places.
- 1:17:46There's just people getting tickets, people getting like, there's, it's not as organic.
- 1:17:51The crowds are like, oh, let's just go do this thing.
- 1:17:54And I don't know, that's my only theory.
- 1:17:57I think the music is better in, I think seeing live music is better in New York.
- 1:18:01I think it's better in Boston.
- 1:18:02I think it's better in, in Seattle.
- 1:18:04I think it's better in Philly.
- 1:18:05I think it's better in New Orleans.
- 1:18:07I think it's better in Chicago.
- 1:18:09Like I definitely agree with Chicago and New Orleans too, but the New Orleans is also very
- 1:18:14different as well.
- 1:18:15That's a, you're, you're looking very, that's a very specific type of music.
- 1:18:19I'm literally talking about like, whether you are at a, like a bar watching a live band
- 1:18:24perform or you're at an amphitheater.
- 1:18:26Hmm.
- 1:18:27Interesting.
- 1:18:28Yeah.
- 1:18:29And the crazy part is Chris and I, different coasts, raised entirely different places,
- 1:18:34entirely different, like, you know, music experiences growing up.
- 1:18:37He agrees and he loves music more than anybody I know.
- 1:18:41He's seen more live music than you or I combined.
- 1:18:44He's like, there's something weird about LA.
- 1:18:45Hmm.
- 1:18:46Yeah.
- 1:18:47Interesting.
- 1:18:48Yeah.
- 1:18:49Interesting.
- 1:18:50It's a take.
- 1:18:51So you know what Detroit guy, I'm, I'm on your side.
- 1:18:52I know a lot of people say, I'm talking about Detroit here, but absolutely.
- 1:18:54What are you going to do?
- 1:18:56I guess Detroit's the best.
- 1:18:57I, I actually have only been to, I would love to go to Detroit.
- 1:19:00It's fucking awesome by the way.
- 1:19:01I've only been once and I actually really enjoyed it.
- 1:19:03But I will say as far as, as far as like getting to go to cool, like the bowl, the Hollywood
- 1:19:08bowl is amazing.
- 1:19:09These places are amazing.
- 1:19:12And by, and by the way, if we ever get, got to go to a show at the Troubadour together,
- 1:19:15I would love that.
- 1:19:16That is my Troubadour.
- 1:19:17It's funny because after saying all of this, my favorite place in the world, if I could
- 1:19:21pick my favorite band and watch them play somewhere, it would be at the Troubadour.
- 1:19:24And by the way, I liked the whiskey, but the whiskey is fine.
- 1:19:27It's fine.
- 1:19:28The Roxy's fine.
- 1:19:29Troubadour is the shit.
- 1:19:30Troubadour is a great place to catch the shit.
- 1:19:31I love it.
- 1:19:32Love it.
- 1:19:33Love it.
- 1:19:34Love it so much.
- 1:19:35So having said all that, LA does possess my favorite music club.
- 1:19:38And if I'm going to an indoor arena, I mean, I don't love seeing a concert at Staples.
- 1:19:42I've seen a few there at Staples.
- 1:19:44It's not a great concert venue.
- 1:19:45I've seen many at the Forum.
- 1:19:48The Forum is fun.
- 1:19:49I think the Forum's a phenomenal concert venue.
- 1:19:50The Forum's pretty fun.
- 1:19:51If you're going to go to an arena.
- 1:19:52But I haven't seen Intuit yet either.
- 1:19:55And I haven't seen anything really big enough to play it so far.
- 1:19:58You know I'm a little woo-woo for obvious reasons in my family.
- 1:20:03The Forum has the vibe.
- 1:20:07There's history in its bones.
- 1:20:09And I genuinely believe the history in its bones.
- 1:20:12I think it's probably because there are all those working class cities.
- 1:20:15I don't think of LA as a working class city.
- 1:20:17That's one of our comments.
- 1:20:18That's fair.
- 1:20:20What do you think of that, Mocha?
- 1:20:21So I was going to say the exact same thing.
- 1:20:22Really?
- 1:20:23Is that it's because it's LA's culture.
- 1:20:24It's an LA culture thing.
- 1:20:25And I feel like they're too pretentious to really get into it as a crowd.
- 1:20:26I can see that.
- 1:20:27Because they're more reserved a little bit.
- 1:20:28Oh, look who's finally agreeing with the take I debuted.
- 1:20:29I don't know.
- 1:20:30There is an aspect where some people.
- 1:20:31That's what I'm saying about the Lakers.
- 1:20:32I think it depends on where you're going.
- 1:20:33I don't know.
- 1:20:34I don't know.
- 1:20:35I don't know.
- 1:20:36I don't know.
- 1:20:37I don't know.
- 1:20:38I don't know.
- 1:20:39I don't know.
- 1:20:40I don't know.
- 1:20:41I don't know.
- 1:20:42I don't know.
- 1:20:44I don't know.
- 1:20:45There is an aspect where some people.
- 1:20:47That's I'm saying about the Lakers.
- 1:20:48I think depends on where you're going.
- 1:20:49They're judging.
- 1:20:50They are, but, like, can I give an example?
- 1:20:52Go to a beach fest and it'll have a bunch of bands like Sublime and shit like that.
- 1:20:58I really feel like that vibe is completely different than a stuck up crowd at a different
- 1:21:04venue.
- 1:21:05I'll even say my favorite venue, the Hollywood Bowl.
- 1:21:07I could definitely see it at the Hollywood Bowl being a little more stuffy crowds there.
- 1:21:13Yeah, sure.
- 1:21:14Of course.
- 1:21:15I think the smaller, the more niche that you're getting, the more likely you are to get an
- 1:21:18authentic crowd.
- 1:21:19Of course, I've seen the same artist in a smaller venue in L.A. and then also in Boston
- 1:21:25and New York Festival, like on the beach and like her most like the offspring plays.
- 1:21:31That sounds awful.
- 1:21:34Not the offspring.
- 1:21:35The crowd.
- 1:21:36I'm not going to lie.
- 1:21:37Like an L.A. beach crowd sounds awful.
- 1:21:40Like I love the L.A. beach.
- 1:21:43That's where the words get exposed.
- 1:21:46The thing gets flawed just because you hate L.A. people.
- 1:21:48I don't.
- 1:21:49I love my L.A. locals.
- 1:21:50It's everybody else I don't like.
- 1:21:52I think if you could have a whole concert full of L.A. locals, I actually think it'd be fucking
- 1:21:56amazing.
- 1:21:57I agree.
- 1:21:58I think the problem is there's too many transplants here.
- 1:21:59There are a lot of transplants.
- 1:22:00All these different places where like the interests are different.
- 1:22:01The vibe is different.
- 1:22:02The whatever.
- 1:22:03And like I think people, I do think to Mocha's point, there's a lot of the like, I'm just
- 1:22:07going to go do this thing because I can't.
- 1:22:09There is a lot of that.
- 1:22:10And you mentioned Laker games, which is a very much a thing.
- 1:22:12When I'm at the Hollywood Bowl, I'm like, it feels like 60% of the people here got tickets
- 1:22:17because they were like, I have nothing else to do.
- 1:22:19It's the Hollywood Bowl.
- 1:22:20I might as well.
- 1:22:21Or got free tickets from somebody else or whatever.
- 1:22:24Or they're just doing it.
- 1:22:25Like it does not feel.
- 1:22:26I can see what you're saying.
- 1:22:28But it's all the people that moved here and ruined it.
- 1:22:30That's not us people.
- 1:22:32That's the Shane Black line, dude, from Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.
- 1:22:34It's like somebody took the United States from the East Coast and shook it and all the
- 1:22:38normal people fucking held on.
- 1:22:39I never blamed it on the L.A. locals, to be fair, because we're fucking awesome.
- 1:22:44Exactly.
- 1:22:45See that, Mocha?
- 1:22:46We're awesome, buddy.
- 1:22:47Oh, yeah.
- 1:22:48Respect to my L.A. locals.
- 1:22:49OK.
- 1:22:50Well, an hour and a half again.
- 1:22:51We weren't supposed to do that.
- 1:22:52I was on you.
- 1:22:53What?
- 1:22:54Don't blame me.
- 1:22:55You wrote the rundown.
- 1:22:56It's on you.
- 1:22:57It's not.
- 1:22:58I made a light rundown.
- 1:23:02Yet we made a feast out of this shit.
- 1:23:04We didn't even get to the fucking bloody sock again.
- 1:23:07Well, see, this is the thing.
- 1:23:09I had a light rundown.
- 1:23:10I thought, at least at the end, we can get to the bloody sock.
- 1:23:12But you kept talking.
- 1:23:13Well, you know what?
- 1:23:14Oh, I kept.
- 1:23:15Yeah.
- 1:23:16You're always so yappy, Cody.
- 1:23:17My God.
- 1:23:18Well, you know what?
- 1:23:19Regardless, make sure you like, share and subscribe.
- 1:23:21Hit that alert button when we go live.
- 1:23:22We will be back on Friday talking all that shit.
- 1:23:24And we will get to the bloody sock because Tanya, fuck Kurt Schilling.
- 1:23:28Fuck Kurt Schilling.
- 1:23:34Fuck Kurt Schilling.
