- 0:00Speaker 1: All right, welcome back to SEC Football Addiction. We are
- 0:03Speaker 1: presented by PrizePix. All new users there who play a
- 0:06Speaker 1: $ 5 lineup and win get 150 lineups if they use
- 0:09Speaker 1: code HMA. Drew DeArmond on with us to talk about
- 0:14Speaker 1: game of the week, maybe the game of the year.
- 0:15Speaker 1: We'll see if this thing even happens when it's supposed
- 0:18Speaker 1: to happen. But Drew, I won't ask you to be
- 0:20Speaker 1: a weatherman, but I guess I will ask you, are
- 0:23Speaker 1: we playing this game at kickoff? I know the company line,
- 0:27Speaker 1: not from you, but just from the SEC, from the...
- 0:30Speaker 1: I don't see how this game gets played at this time.
- 0:32Speaker 1: It feels like at least the time shifts a little.
- 0:35Speaker 3: Well, I mean, not so far.
- 0:37Speaker 2: I mean, you know, I checked with James Spann's Twitter account.
- 0:42Speaker 2: He's kind of a guru meteorologist in Alabama, and he's
- 0:47Speaker 2: now reporting that it looks like most of it will
- 0:50Speaker 2: be out by game time.
- 0:53Speaker 3: There'll be heavy rain, so actually moving it up would
- 0:55Speaker 3: be a disaster. Yeah. That's what it sounds like.
- 0:58Speaker 2: It's going to come straight up through Mobile and through Tuscaloosa.
- 1:02Speaker 2: But it looks like there's a really good chance that
- 1:04Speaker 2: it could be done by game time. Now, it'll be
- 1:08Speaker 2: a wet track, but it does drain. And so I
- 1:12Speaker 2: always said that it would never be moved up. I
- 1:15Speaker 2: didn't think as far as the time of the kickoff
- 1:18Speaker 2: on Saturday or even some of the lunacy I heard
- 1:20Speaker 2: about moving it to Friday, which is asinine.
- 1:24Speaker 3: It's an ACC type move, isn't it?
- 1:27Speaker 2: That's a logistical nightmare TJ, but I think if it
- 1:31Speaker 2: were going to happen, it would be moved back on Sunday.
- 1:34Speaker 2: And I don't really care about the NFL because the
- 1:36Speaker 2: NFL is not in Alabama, but that would be a
- 1:39Speaker 2: whole lot easier.
- 1:40Speaker 3: But I really believe, I mean, it's rain for God's sake.
- 1:43Speaker 2: Now I know, you know, James Spann used some terms
- 1:47Speaker 2: like maybe a pop-up tornado. And I think that's where
- 1:50Speaker 2: a lot of people started getting scared and nervous.
- 1:53Speaker 3: Look, this has happened before.
- 1:56Speaker 2: We were on Talking Ball this morning, and someone called
- 1:59Speaker 2: in and brought up the fact that it rained heavy
- 2:02Speaker 2: pretty much all day up until the 2015 Alabama LSU
- 2:07Speaker 2: game at night. And it was in Bryant-Denny, and the
- 2:09Speaker 2: rain got out, and it ended up draining, and the
- 2:14Speaker 2: atmosphere was fine.
- 2:14Speaker 3: The game was fine.
- 2:16Speaker 2: So, you know, look, man, around this time last week,
- 2:19Speaker 2: everybody thought it was going to be a monsoon in Starkville.
- 2:22Speaker 2: It was a monsoon, but it was a crimson monsoon
- 2:25Speaker 2: hitting the maroon.
- 2:28Speaker 3: So, again, the weather is a concern, no question, but hopefully.
- 2:34Speaker 2: It'll get out of there and Georgia and Alabama will
- 2:36Speaker 2: get a chance to play each other for the 10th
- 2:39Speaker 2: time under Kirby Smart since he's gotten to Athens, which
- 2:42Speaker 2: is crazy.
- 2:43Speaker 3: And the crazy thing is, you know, most of these meetings.
- 2:46Speaker 2: Have happened in Atlanta or in the national championship game
- 2:49Speaker 2: with postseason implications. They really haven't played a ton in
- 2:53Speaker 2: the regular season, you know, because of the scheduling quirks. But,
- 2:57Speaker 2: you know, this will be the third meeting for them
- 3:01Speaker 2: in the regular season since Kalen DeBoer came to Alabama.
- 3:04Speaker 2: He's 2-0 in the regular season against Kirby. Kirby's 2-7 overall.
- 3:08Speaker 2: But I will say both teams are, I think, much
- 3:11Speaker 2: better than a year ago. And so it's going to
- 3:14Speaker 2: be a really fascinating matchup. You know, I was just
- 3:17Speaker 2: listening to Brandon Walker of Dog Nation and he was comparing,
- 3:21Speaker 2: he made an interesting comparison. He kind of compared it
- 3:23Speaker 2: to the dogs with 50 really good players and not
- 3:27Speaker 2: really a superstar to Alabama, you know, being the Keelan
- 3:30Speaker 2: Russell show. Well, or, and I should say Keelan, I
- 3:33Speaker 2: don't want to sound like somebody that doesn't cover the guy,
- 3:36Speaker 2: but I mean, look, it's Alabama is not just Keelan Russell.
- 3:40Speaker 2: He certainly stirs the drink and he's a special, special player.
- 3:44Speaker 3: And I think he'll be the best player on the field.
- 3:46Speaker 2: Saturday night, but the supporting cast around him, is really,
- 3:50Speaker 2: really good and coming into their own. You saw it
- 3:53Speaker 2: yourself inside Bryant-Denny Stadium. And in my opinion, they've only
- 3:57Speaker 2: gotten better since that time. And so I'm fascinated to
- 4:00Speaker 2: see how they play against the best defense they would have.
- 4:02Speaker 3: Seen all year, and that's Georgia on Saturday night.
- 4:06Speaker 1: Yeah, and then on the other side, I think about–
- 4:10Speaker 1: I do think that both of these teams have had
- 4:12Speaker 1: different types of tests so far. Georgia against Oklahoma's defense.
- 4:18Speaker 1: I know Oklahoma's offense is not very good. And then
- 4:21Speaker 1: Bama against really, you know, you think about Mississippi State's
- 4:25Speaker 1: offense and Florida State's offense. Like, I'll give them a
- 4:28Speaker 1: little credit. They played well. And they have played well
- 4:31Speaker 1: since then. I had questions about the Bama defense after
- 4:35Speaker 1: that game. I kind of worried, like, man, 36 points,
- 4:37Speaker 1: 377 yards to Ashton Daniels. Ever since then, Florida State
- 4:41Speaker 1: hadn't scored under 34, and they've scored on nearly all
- 4:44Speaker 1: of their possessions. Not always touchdowns, but they've been really
- 4:47Speaker 1: good offensively since they were in Bryant-Denny Stadium.
- 4:50Speaker 3: And so I think they've taken on two offenses.
- 4:53Speaker 1: And, you know, still, if you're Alabama, you would have
- 4:55Speaker 1: loved to have not given up that many points against
- 4:57Speaker 1: Florida State and that many yards to a quarterback like
- 5:00Speaker 1: Ashton Daniels.
- 5:01Speaker 3: But they've faced different tests.
- 5:04Speaker 1: And obviously this will be the toughest test that either
- 5:07Speaker 1: of them face during the regular season, I w I
- 5:10Speaker 1: would imagine.
- 5:10Speaker 3: Um, but I want to.
- 5:11Speaker 1: See what that Georgia defense, which I think is really,
- 5:14Speaker 1: really good does against a competent, offense or in really
- 5:18Speaker 1: a great offense, but somebody that has a pulse, I
- 5:21Speaker 1: want to see what that Bama defense does against an
- 5:25Speaker 1: offense that does look really, really good. So I think
- 5:28Speaker 1: there are questions that are going to get answered here
- 5:30Speaker 1: that we can conjecture and we can speculate on, but man,
- 5:33Speaker 1: when toe meets leather, we'll find out if Keelan Russell
- 5:36Speaker 1: is as good as we think we'll find out if
- 5:38Speaker 1: that Georgia defense is as good as we think we'll
- 5:40Speaker 1: find out because the other team has a a punch back.
- 5:44Speaker 1: And a lot of times the, these guys have, both
- 5:46Speaker 1: these teams have played some teams. They can't punch back
- 5:48Speaker 1: South Carolina, you know, Oklahoma, just whomever there's going to
- 5:52Speaker 1: be some punching going on. Hopefully not the kind that
- 5:55Speaker 1: gets people in trouble, but there there'll be some answers that,
- 5:58Speaker 1: that we get. Cause I've, I think really, I mean,
- 6:02Speaker 1: we can speculate on it, but until we see it
- 6:04Speaker 1: against an elite team, it's tough to know.
- 6:07Speaker 3: Well, I mean, it is a little bit, TJ.
- 6:10Speaker 2: But I will say I think Alabama has played a
- 6:12Speaker 2: much tougher schedule than Georgia.
- 6:15Speaker 3: Now, Oklahoma was supposed to be better.
- 6:18Speaker 2: You know, we talked about it today with Brandon Drum
- 6:20Speaker 2: of OU Insider about what's happened to the OU offense.
- 6:24Speaker 2: And I think one thing is some of the receivers
- 6:27Speaker 2: they brought in in the transfer portal have not been
- 6:29Speaker 2: the impact guys they thought to help Isaiah Satania. But
- 6:33Speaker 2: I think the biggest issues are two others. The offensive
- 6:37Speaker 2: line has not been as good as they hoped, and
- 6:39Speaker 2: then Mateer regressing and not having the second-year jump you
- 6:45Speaker 2: thought he would. Honestly, since the start last year, after
- 6:50Speaker 2: he got hurt and came back too quickly before the
- 6:52Speaker 2: Red River shootout, he's really been like a roller coaster.
- 6:55Speaker 2: You don't know what you're going to get, and most
- 6:58Speaker 2: of the time that roller coaster's been off track this year.
- 7:01Speaker 2: He did make a point, though. They did outgain Georgia severely.
- 7:05Speaker 2: and move the ball in between the 20s, but you
- 7:07Speaker 2: have to score.
- 7:08Speaker 1: Just before we go on, I will give some love
- 7:10Speaker 1: to our new Top 25 poll. A lot of you
- 7:13Speaker 1: are like me, and you hate the AP poll, so
- 7:16Speaker 1: I created a better one. You can log in right now,
- 7:19Speaker 1: and for free, go create your own Top 25 poll.
- 7:23Speaker 3: I'm setting up reminders.
- 7:25Speaker 1: I'm working on aggregating national college football analysts that we
- 7:29Speaker 1: all know and love and respect, or maybe even hate
- 7:31Speaker 1: just to get theirs in there as well. It's super slick.
- 7:35Speaker 1: The user interface is really, really easy to use. You
- 7:38Speaker 1: log in one time with your Google account and you
- 7:40Speaker 1: are all set. I'm not going to spam your email.
- 7:43Speaker 1: I'm not trying to sell you anything. There's no ads
- 7:45Speaker 1: on here. If somebody would like to put an ad
- 7:47Speaker 1: on there, please let me know. But it's just a
- 7:49Speaker 1: place where we can go collectively as fans and Vote
- 7:53Speaker 1: on the poll. The top 25 in college football. We're
- 7:56Speaker 1: going to work on a college football playoff one once
- 7:57Speaker 1: we get closer to November. But go check this out.
- 8:00Speaker 1: It's CFATop25. com. Link is in the description. I'll pin the comment.
- 8:06Speaker 1: Go check it out right now.
- 8:08Speaker 2: And one of the vivid things is it was 14-0 Dawgs,
- 8:11Speaker 2: and it was about to be 14-7. Wide open receiver
- 8:14Speaker 2: in the end zone. We all know what happened. The
- 8:16Speaker 2: ball slipped out of Mateer's hand. Chris Cole picked it
- 8:18Speaker 2: up and ran it back 90-something yards for a touchdown.
- 8:22Speaker 2: And the game was basically over after that. So Alabama
- 8:26Speaker 2: can't make those kind of mistakes. Since the first half
- 8:29Speaker 2: of the Kentucky game, they've done a great job of
- 8:32Speaker 2: not turning it over.
- 8:33Speaker 3: Now they did have.
- 8:33Speaker 2: Two against Mississippi State, but they had already gotten off
- 8:37Speaker 2: to a tremendous start in that game. And they've got
- 8:40Speaker 2: to cut those out. They've got to cut out the penalties.
- 8:43Speaker 2: They did have some operational penalties that will not help
- 8:46Speaker 2: you against Georgia at all. But I will say, Every
- 8:50Speaker 2: week it looks like Keelan is getting more comfortable. They're
- 8:53Speaker 2: making a lot of explosive plays. And his mobility and
- 8:57Speaker 2: his ability to throw the ball accurately down the field
- 9:00Speaker 2: has kind of been kryptonite for Kirby and his defense
- 9:03Speaker 2: at times. They've given up some things through the air
- 9:07Speaker 2: to really good quarterbacks and receivers. And so certainly Alabama
- 9:11Speaker 2: needs to create some balance, and they're a much better
- 9:14Speaker 2: running football team than they were a year ago. They
- 9:16Speaker 2: had just enough balance in Athens to get the win
- 9:19Speaker 2: last year and escape, but they're going to need a
- 9:21Speaker 2: better running game than that on Saturday, I think. I
- 9:25Speaker 2: think it's just going to come down to the fact
- 9:26Speaker 2: that who is the most efficient team as far as
- 9:31Speaker 2: who wins that turnover battle, who can keep penalties to
- 9:34Speaker 2: a minimum, and then to me, Uh, it's once again,
- 9:38Speaker 2: Alabama is going to have to outrush Georgia out, possess
- 9:41Speaker 2: them like they did a year ago. Cause you remember
- 9:43Speaker 2: Alabama dominated the time of possession, especially in the first half.
- 9:47Speaker 2: And they were able to use that and control the football,
- 9:50Speaker 2: keep it away from Georgia. And then, you know, you've
- 9:53Speaker 2: got to make one or two more big plays than
- 9:55Speaker 2: they do. They did that a year ago, and I
- 9:58Speaker 2: think they've got to do that this time. And then,
- 10:00Speaker 2: you know, if you can force Georgia into mistakes and
- 10:03Speaker 2: win that turnover battle, and then I think it could
- 10:06Speaker 2: be huge in this game, whether it's just one turnover
- 10:09Speaker 2: or two, if you can take the ball away from
- 10:12Speaker 2: the other guy. And then on defense for Alabama, you know,
- 10:16Speaker 2: Georgia's too good. Gunner's experienced. They've got an underrated receiver
- 10:20Speaker 2: core that's not a lot of known guys yet, not
- 10:23Speaker 2: a Ladd McConkie, not a Brock Bowers, but I think
- 10:27Speaker 2: they have some, or a George Pickens, but I think
- 10:29Speaker 2: they've got some good players. And then, you know, they've
- 10:33Speaker 2: got their Nate Frazier in their running back room, you know, is.
- 10:38Speaker 3: Chauncey Bowens, who hurt Alabama.
- 10:40Speaker 2: I know he's a little banged up, but they have
- 10:42Speaker 2: a good running back room, and Lawson Lucky, who I
- 10:45Speaker 2: think is a really good tight end. So, They have weapons,
- 10:49Speaker 2: but you're going to have to contain them. I think
- 10:52Speaker 2: the red zone defense is going to be key on
- 10:55Speaker 2: both sides, both for Alabama and Georgia. If you can
- 10:57Speaker 2: make them kick, and I thought that was a big
- 10:59Speaker 2: turning point in the Mississippi State game last week. At
- 11:02Speaker 2: the half, Alabama made them kick a field goal, didn't
- 11:06Speaker 2: give up seven. Then they come out in the third
- 11:08Speaker 2: quarter and go up 35-17. There's a big difference there.
- 11:12Speaker 2: You're doubling up your opponent. If you can anytime you
- 11:16Speaker 2: make them punt or kick a field goal, I think
- 11:18Speaker 2: that's a win, especially with.
- 11:20Speaker 3: A team like Georgia.
- 11:22Speaker 2: So if you play good red zone defense and you
- 11:24Speaker 2: win the turnover battle, and I still say both teams
- 11:29Speaker 2: are really good against the run, but whoever runs the
- 11:31Speaker 2: football the best.
- 11:32Speaker 3: Is going to win this game.
- 11:34Speaker 2: And then I think Keelan Russell is better than Gunnar Stockton,
- 11:38Speaker 2: but I'm not taking anything away from Gunnar. I think
- 11:40Speaker 2: he's a hell of a player and a competitor, and
- 11:42Speaker 2: I'm not going to you know, discount him at all.
- 11:46Speaker 2: But I do think Keelan, if he keeps playing at
- 11:48Speaker 2: this level, I think he can be the best player
- 11:51Speaker 2: on the field. And when you have the best player
- 11:53Speaker 2: on the field, you can, a lot of times you
- 11:56Speaker 2: win games like this.
- 11:57Speaker 3: So I think it's going to be a hell of
- 11:59Speaker 3: a game.
- 12:00Speaker 2: I've got Alabama winning 34, 27 and a game that
- 12:03Speaker 2: I think, cause I think Alabama, if they're going to win,
- 12:06Speaker 2: I think I, cause I think offensively they can be elite.
- 12:10Speaker 2: I think you've got to get the game in the
- 12:12Speaker 2: high twenties or.
- 12:13Speaker 3: The, low to mid 30s.
- 12:14Speaker 2: And if it's in the 40s, I really love Alabama's chances,
- 12:18Speaker 2: but crazy because I think both of these defenses are good.
- 12:22Speaker 2: But if the game is played in the low 20s
- 12:25Speaker 2: or in the teens, I think that's to Georgia's advantage
- 12:28Speaker 2: because that means they're containing Keelan Russell. Certainly the game
- 12:32Speaker 2: in Tuscaloosa last year was 24-21. Alabama had a really
- 12:35Speaker 2: good first half, but didn't score in the second. And
- 12:39Speaker 2: so that was an issue. but they were lucky to
- 12:42Speaker 2: be able to escape there. And Kirby made some of
- 12:45Speaker 2: his trademark halftime adjustments. But I think this year Alabama's
- 12:49Speaker 2: more balanced, and I think they've got more weapons on
- 12:52Speaker 2: offense than Georgia does.
- 12:54Speaker 3: But you've got to protect Keelan. And if you can,
- 12:56Speaker 3: and if they can.
- 12:57Speaker 2: Block Georgia's front and wear them down somewhat and kind
- 13:01Speaker 2: of beat Kirby at his own game, keep pounding with
- 13:04Speaker 2: the run, because I think Alabama is much healthier and
- 13:07Speaker 2: much deeper in the backfield than they were a year ago.
- 13:10Speaker 3: Because they didn't have Treshawn Brown. They didn't have EJ Crowell.
- 13:14Speaker 2: Both of them are capable of making plays, and I
- 13:17Speaker 2: think overall Alabama comes in in a position of strength
- 13:21Speaker 2: in this game. Now, there is a breaking injury situation.
- 13:25Speaker 2: I knew about it, but it wasn't going to go
- 13:27Speaker 2: public because I was told not to, but Coach Kaelin
- 13:30Speaker 2: DeBoer just did on the teleconference. Josh Ford broke his
- 13:34Speaker 2: hand-slash-arm in the game last week against– You know, the
- 13:38Speaker 2: Mississippi State Bulldogs, and we know what kind of impact
- 13:41Speaker 2: he's had on that tight end room and on the
- 13:42Speaker 2: physicality of the offense.
- 13:45Speaker 3: He had surgery, and he is a little bit different.
- 13:48Speaker 2: And what I mean by that is if anybody's listening
- 13:50Speaker 2: to your show, and we know you have a ton
- 13:52Speaker 2: of listeners, and they're probably from our age gap and
- 13:56Speaker 2: sometimes even older, if you remember Martin Riggs from Lethal Weapon,
- 14:01Speaker 2: that's kind of the mindset of this kid, and he
- 14:04Speaker 2: wants to play with a broken arm.
- 14:06Speaker 3: He wants to cast it up and play.
- 14:08Speaker 2: We'll see if the doctors clear him, TJ. I even
- 14:13Speaker 2: heard he's already doing push-ups. This is how different the
- 14:16Speaker 2: kid is. Now, Jyra Edwards came back from a similar
- 14:20Speaker 2: injury in about two weeks. Now, I was told originally
- 14:23Speaker 2: this would probably be a two-week injury, but then I
- 14:26Speaker 2: was also told he wants to push the envelope. Luckily,
- 14:30Speaker 2: with Richard Owens, the new tight ends coach, an extension
- 14:33Speaker 2: of the O-line coach with Adrian Clem, They have developed
- 14:36Speaker 2: five good tight ends, so if they lose Josh Ford
- 14:39Speaker 2: for this ball game or only play him situationally, they've
- 14:43Speaker 2: got four other guys that have played well, Jay Lindsey,
- 14:47Speaker 2: Danny Lewis, and of course the two that have been
- 14:49Speaker 2: involved in the passing game extensively, Caleb Edwards, and then
- 14:54Speaker 2: Marshall Pritchett, who put on a show last week. They
- 14:56Speaker 2: certainly will all be available, but That's something to monitor
- 15:00Speaker 2: Josh Ford because he's got one catch for three yards
- 15:03Speaker 2: and a touchdown that you saw against Florida State. But
- 15:07Speaker 2: the thing about it is he hasn't been targeted a lot,
- 15:12Speaker 2: but he's a huge part of that running game.
- 15:15Speaker 3: You talk about the running game.
- 15:16Speaker 1: 229 yards against East Carolina, 155 against Kentucky, 250 against
- 15:19Speaker 1: 247 against FSU. A little lower against South Carolina. It
- 15:27Speaker 1: wasn't as needed, I think, but 124 there. And then
- 15:30Speaker 1: 179 last week against Mississippi State. Leaps and bounds from
- 15:33Speaker 1: last year. Not even comparable when you look at what
- 15:37Speaker 1: they're doing. About 186 a game is what they're putting.
- 15:40Speaker 3: On the ground. I do agree with you.
- 15:42Speaker 1: I think if Bama can get over $ 1. 50... I think
- 15:45Speaker 1: they'll be in really good shape in this game. Not that,
- 15:48Speaker 1: you know, now if you give up a buck 50,
- 15:50Speaker 1: you know, like, or more and Georgia gets up to
- 15:53Speaker 1: one 60, one 75, one 80, then yeah, that'll undo it.
- 15:57Speaker 1: But yeah, Bama can run the ball effectively. I do
- 15:59Speaker 1: have so much confidence in their passing game right now.
- 16:04Speaker 1: I think what Bama has done on the ground has
- 16:05Speaker 1: been really, really impressive. Clearly they will not have seen
- 16:09Speaker 1: a front like this Georgia front. And then conversely, the
- 16:11Speaker 1: same thing, you know, Oklahoma's front is really good. So
- 16:15Speaker 1: Georgia does have the experience playing that, but Georgia's going
- 16:19Speaker 1: to see a really good front and a team that's
- 16:21Speaker 1: going to be focused on stopping the run.
- 16:23Speaker 3: We get so caught.
- 16:24Speaker 1: Up, and you're right about turnovers, kind of the great equalizer,
- 16:27Speaker 1: but if you just show me the rushing totals after
- 16:30Speaker 1: this game, don't show me the final score, just show
- 16:34Speaker 1: me the rushing totals and how many attempts it took,
- 16:37Speaker 1: I feel like, again, absent a pump, that's blocked or
- 16:43Speaker 1: three turnover, you know, absent something weird. You just show
- 16:46Speaker 1: me those rushing totals. I'll tell you who wins this
- 16:47Speaker 1: game like that. That's really, I've got so much confidence
- 16:50Speaker 1: in the quarterbacks. I know the way they'll try and
- 16:53Speaker 1: play defensively. Did we just show me that rushing total?
- 16:56Speaker 1: I'll give you a winner. Like I'll tell you today
- 16:58Speaker 1: who wins. If you just tell me that total now,
- 17:00Speaker 1: but I think that's of massive importance here.
- 17:04Speaker 3: Well, it is.
- 17:04Speaker 2: It always is. You have to be able to run
- 17:06Speaker 2: the ball. And that's why Alabama is, You know, didn't
- 17:09Speaker 2: win an SEC championship last year. They did make the playoff.
- 17:12Speaker 2: They won one game. But the national champions in Indiana,
- 17:15Speaker 2: you know, routed them 38-3 because one team could run
- 17:18Speaker 2: the football and the other could not.
- 17:20Speaker 3: You have to be balanced. And Alabama knew that going
- 17:22Speaker 3: into the offseason.
- 17:24Speaker 2: They had to develop a better offensive line, which they've done.
- 17:27Speaker 2: And the ironic part is against, you know, against Mississippi
- 17:33Speaker 2: State on the road, And against Kentucky, they didn't have
- 17:36Speaker 2: their iron five, so to speak, their top five guys.
- 17:40Speaker 2: In Kentucky, they were without Mike Carroll, their best guard,
- 17:44Speaker 2: their starting right guard. They had to start William Sanders
- 17:48Speaker 2: and Mal Waldrop. And then against Mississippi State, they didn't
- 17:51Speaker 2: have their right tackle, Javon James. They had to start
- 17:53Speaker 2: Tyrell Miller. But they had guys ready to go. And
- 17:56Speaker 2: that's a credit to Adrian Clem and that staff and
- 17:59Speaker 2: Richard Owens of working with that O-line. and getting backup
- 18:04Speaker 2: guys ready. And then that first group is really good.
- 18:07Speaker 2: I mean, you're talking about Jackson Lloyd and William Sanders,
- 18:10Speaker 2: the usual guys on the left side, Racine Delgadi from
- 18:12Speaker 2: Cal Poly has been really good. And, you know, and
- 18:16Speaker 2: then also on the right side, Michael, Mike Carroll, when
- 18:22Speaker 2: he's in there, I think he's an All-American level right guard.
- 18:24Speaker 2: And then, you know, Javon James and Tyrell Miller, I
- 18:26Speaker 2: think either one of them are more than serviceable enough
- 18:29Speaker 2: to play against Georgia.
- 18:31Speaker 3: And they're just going to have to do their jobs.
- 18:32Speaker 2: I mean, certainly Georgia's going to win some battles, but
- 18:35Speaker 2: you have to win your share. And I think Treshawn
- 18:38Speaker 2: Brown and Crowell give them some explosiveness. And I know
- 18:42Speaker 2: we talked about this going into the Florida State game,
- 18:45Speaker 2: explosiveness out of the running game. And they have now.
- 18:48Speaker 2: They can make big plays out of that running game.
- 18:50Speaker 2: You know, Crowell's been on a pitch count because he's
- 18:52Speaker 2: got a couple of injuries. And, I mean, that's why
- 18:56Speaker 2: he missed a lot of spring and fall. And then
- 18:58Speaker 2: he's also still trying to learn how to play without
- 19:00Speaker 2: the ball. But he basically averages one big play per game.
- 19:04Speaker 2: And so if he can do that against Georgia, I
- 19:07Speaker 2: think it speaks well. Personally, though, I've said it on
- 19:11Speaker 2: many shows this week, I wish he would have a
- 19:14Speaker 2: breakout game like Sean Alexander's redshirt freshman year in the
- 19:17Speaker 2: rain in Baton Rouge when he rushed for nearly 300
- 19:20Speaker 2: yards and they emptied the stadium in the second half
- 19:24Speaker 2: and shut out LSU. I wish he would explode for
- 19:26Speaker 2: the first time because I think he's capable of doing that.
- 19:29Speaker 2: But I don't know that he's ready to do that yet. But,
- 19:32Speaker 2: of course, nothing would please me more if he did
- 19:34Speaker 2: it to Georgia because of all.
- 19:36Speaker 3: The PTSD they would have.
- 19:38Speaker 2: But it's kind of like me when these games run
- 19:41Speaker 2: together and Josh Ford actually had the one-handed catch against
- 19:44Speaker 2: South Carolina. But you saw Alabama's offense live in Bryant-Denny Stadium.
- 19:48Speaker 3: You've seen the physicality.
- 19:50Speaker 2: That they play with now, and you saw them score
- 19:52Speaker 2: on nine straight drives, and you don't do that being one-dimensional.
- 19:56Speaker 2: You have to be multi-dimensional, and they're going to have
- 19:59Speaker 2: to be multi-dimensional against Georgia, because Georgia will.
- 20:02Speaker 3: Try to make them play left-handed.
- 20:04Speaker 2: They're going to try to stop the run and put
- 20:06Speaker 2: the game in Keelan's hands.
- 20:07Speaker 3: I know that sounds.
- 20:08Speaker 2: Crazy, but Herbie's always been a guy that wants to
- 20:11Speaker 2: stop the run and knows he has to. But, you know,
- 20:14Speaker 2: Keelan Russell can make plays with his feet and he
- 20:16Speaker 2: can make plays with his arm. But, you know, they're
- 20:19Speaker 2: going to try to put more pressure on Keelan, make
- 20:22Speaker 2: him make decisions, try to keep him in the pocket.
- 20:24Speaker 2: I'm sure they're going to try to build a bubble.
- 20:27Speaker 2: And then Keelan's going to have to just take what
- 20:28Speaker 2: they give him, be patient with it. But I do
- 20:32Speaker 2: think there'll be some plays there to be made vertically.
- 20:35Speaker 2: We'll see, and really, I don't think Georgia's played against
- 20:38Speaker 2: a passing attack because we know Oklahoma doesn't have a
- 20:41Speaker 2: great one, and this.
- 20:42Speaker 3: Was a vintage Vanderbilt team.
- 20:45Speaker 2: Vanderbilt stayed with them for a half before Georgia wore
- 20:48Speaker 2: them down, but I just think Alabama, it's going to
- 20:51Speaker 2: be a battle in the trenches. They have to run
- 20:53Speaker 2: the football some and help Keelan Russell. I loved the
- 20:56Speaker 2: game plan last week where they only threw 10 times
- 20:59Speaker 2: in the first half, and then it allowed them to
- 21:01Speaker 2: make some big plays in the second half because they
- 21:04Speaker 2: State did have a problem stopping the run. But then,
- 21:07Speaker 2: you know, I know that Georgia's going to make some
- 21:10Speaker 2: plays too. Alabama's just going to have to be solid
- 21:13Speaker 2: in the red zone. But, again, offensively, they've got to
- 21:17Speaker 2: stay ahead of the chains, and then they have to,
- 21:19Speaker 2: you know, protect Keelan Russell. If they can keep Keelan
- 21:22Speaker 2: Russell clean, and I'm not naive, I know Georgia will
- 21:26Speaker 2: probably get a sack or two, but if you can
- 21:28Speaker 2: hold that down to two or less sacks in this game,
- 21:33Speaker 2: and he doesn't take a beating, is not getting hit
- 21:35Speaker 2: a lot. If you can keep him clean, then I
- 21:38Speaker 2: think they can beat Georgia. And so far, the Georgia
- 21:41Speaker 2: pass rush has been good, not great. I'm sure Kirby's
- 21:44Speaker 2: been saving some things, but so has Alabama. So it's
- 21:47Speaker 2: going to be a really great chess match. I'm going
- 21:51Speaker 2: with Keelan Russell and Alabama because they're at home and
- 21:55Speaker 2: because I think this is a well-rounded offense. I certainly
- 21:57Speaker 2: think Georgia's is as well, but I think Alabama is
- 22:01Speaker 2: better equipped defensively to deal with him this year. They've
- 22:05Speaker 2: done a good job stopping the run. They've got to
- 22:07Speaker 2: slow Georgia's run down, and then they've got to put
- 22:10Speaker 2: some pressure on Gunner Stock, and he's been sacked five times.
- 22:14Speaker 2: Gunner can run, too, but you've got to pressure him,
- 22:17Speaker 2: get in his face, and make him make some difficult throws.
- 22:21Speaker 2: And if you do, then I think you can force
- 22:23Speaker 2: a turnover or two that could potentially be the difference
- 22:26Speaker 2: in the game.
- 22:28Speaker 3: Drew, where can people follow you?
- 22:29Speaker 1: What do you got coming this week and social media shows,
- 22:32Speaker 1: all that stuff?
- 22:34Speaker 3: Well, we got a lot of stuff going on.
- 22:35Speaker 2: We got talking ball Monday through Friday, 7 to 10 a.m.,
- 22:38Speaker 2: and certainly we're looking forward to the rest of the week.
- 22:42Speaker 2: We got two more shows coming up that we're excited about,
- 22:44Speaker 2: really three. We're going to be out at Hyundai of
- 22:46Speaker 2: Decatur on Saturday morning from 10 to noon, and it's

- 22:53Speaker 2: Mobile at 9 a.m. and then one at 9.30 with
- 22:56Speaker 2: Buck Baloo in Atlanta. So I know we're going to
- 22:59Speaker 2: be talking a lot of Georgia Bama, and we're going to,
- 23:01Speaker 2: of course, talk a ton of it on Saturday over
