- 0:07Speaker 1: It's the White Sox off season to do list, And
- 0:10Speaker 1: you know what, I'm gonna step aside here because this
- 0:13Speaker 1: might be the last segment that Aj Perzinski does in
- 0:16Speaker 1: twenty twenty five. He's heading out for a little bit. So, AJ,
- 0:21Speaker 1: anyone that's watching this or listening to this later on,
- 0:23Speaker 1: does not want to hear another word from me. So
- 0:26Speaker 1: you're the host, go ahead.
- 0:29Speaker 2: Well, I can't wait to hear garfinkels. First of all,
- 0:32Speaker 2: there's three things that he's gonna give us. Second of all,
- 0:35Speaker 2: there's really only thing one thing they need to do. Chuck,
- 0:38Speaker 2: spend some damn money and get better players, not say
- 0:40Speaker 2: go out of the free agent margat and spend some money.
- 0:42Speaker 2: You can give your list, but until they start with that,
- 0:45Speaker 2: you're gonna say, find a starter, find a reliever, find
- 0:48Speaker 2: a bullpen, find a this, and find it out. But
- 0:50Speaker 2: you know what those all involve, Chuck spending some money.
- 0:53Speaker 2: So let's spend some money. White Sox fans, let's go.
- 0:56Speaker 2: It's not our money, it's uncle Jerry, so go Garfine.
- 1:01Speaker 3: Thanks for that introduction there, Aj, I appreciate it. You're
- 1:05Speaker 3: the only person who calls me Garfinkel, by the way,
- 1:07Speaker 3: which means a lot. It's a badge of honor. Thank you.
- 1:11Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:12Speaker 3: I think they will be spending money. There will be
- 1:14Speaker 3: money that will be spent this offseason, but also the
- 1:18Speaker 3: big money that you're talking about. I think that's maybe
- 1:20Speaker 3: a year or two down the road. That's just my hunch.
- 1:23Speaker 3: Here's what the White Sox need, and we can then
- 1:25Speaker 3: break down break it all down starting pitching. They need innings.
- 1:30Speaker 3: They were last in the majors in innings pitched by
- 1:34Speaker 3: starters last season and that put a lot of pressure
- 1:37Speaker 3: on their bullpen. Speaking of the bullpen, they were last
- 1:41Speaker 3: in saves. They didn't really have a closer. They had
- 1:43Speaker 3: like eight different guys who got saves. There was Jordan Leisure,
- 1:47Speaker 3: there was Grand Taylor. They definitely took the next steps
- 1:49Speaker 3: for them individually. But I'd like to see them get
- 1:51Speaker 3: maybe someone who's got some experience there, because you throw
- 1:54Speaker 3: those two things together, you lost a lot of one
- 1:57Speaker 3: run games. They were I believe fifteen and three thirty
- 2:00Speaker 3: six in one run games. That's one thing they're talking about.
- 2:03Speaker 3: They want to improve that. So if you improve the
- 2:05Speaker 3: bullpen and get another starter or two, that's gonna help.
- 2:08Speaker 3: And then they need a corner outfielder or two. Right now,
- 2:12Speaker 3: their outfield consists of Luis Robert Junior, Andrew bed And Tendi,
- 2:17Speaker 3: Everson Pereira, Derek Hill, Brooks Baldwin. They could use some guys.
- 2:22Speaker 3: So I think those are the three main things the
- 2:25Speaker 3: White Sox need to do. And then spend all the
- 2:28Speaker 3: money that Aja Persinski wants you to spend.
- 2:31Speaker 5: Okay, so the Red Sox, I mean, the Life Socks
- 2:33Speaker 5: need pitching and hitters. That's a cool that's a cool
- 2:36Speaker 5: baseball strategy.
- 2:37Speaker 4: I like that. But let's go to the start.
- 2:39Speaker 3: Let's go to the start of.
- 2:41Speaker 5: Your first your first comment there about starting rotation, the
- 2:45Speaker 5: fact that they didn't have any innings. Is this something
- 2:48Speaker 5: that can actually be addressed because the organization, some of
- 2:53Speaker 5: their top starting pitching prospects don't throw past the fifth inning?
- 2:58Speaker 5: So is this something that they do actually even care
- 3:01Speaker 5: about if you're not even teaching the guys who you're
- 3:04Speaker 5: building up through your organization, which Chris Getz did, he
- 3:07Speaker 5: was part of the player development.
- 3:08Speaker 3: He set this.
- 3:09Speaker 5: Tone of well, nobody ever throws past five innings, so
- 3:12Speaker 5: we don't need you two in the minor leagues. Or
- 3:14Speaker 5: is this something that's like just going to magically appear
- 3:17Speaker 5: and some dudes are gonna start throwing six seven innings
- 3:20Speaker 5: to not have a repeat of last year.
- 3:22Speaker 3: All right, Well, there was the reason why guys are
- 3:24Speaker 3: not throwing as much as you would have liked, because
- 3:27Speaker 3: they didn't really have the track record. You had Shane Smith,
- 3:30Speaker 3: who was a real five pick who did not have
- 3:32Speaker 3: many innings underneath them going into last seasons, so they
- 3:35Speaker 3: didn't want him to go seven eight innings at a time.
- 3:38Speaker 3: They were trying to save his arm. Same with Sean Burke,
- 3:41Speaker 3: Davis Martin who had been coming off Tommy John surgery.
- 3:44Speaker 3: And then you have Hagen Smith and Noah Schultz who
- 3:47Speaker 3: had dealt with some issues with their health last season,
- 3:52Speaker 3: so they didn't want them to go with seven eight
- 3:53Speaker 3: innings as well. They were watching their innings for their future,
- 3:57Speaker 3: trying to save their arm and their bodies. So that's
- 4:00Speaker 3: kind of how things wrapped up. I think they would
- 4:02Speaker 3: prefer their starters to go longer than they did. It
- 4:05Speaker 3: just didn't happen that way. And then they had Martine Perez.
- 4:08Speaker 3: He was supposed to be that innings eater for them,
- 4:11Speaker 3: and sure enough, he gets hurt in April he missed
- 4:14Speaker 3: almost all of the season. H he's still a free
- 4:17Speaker 3: agent right now. Maybe he could come back potentially, there's
- 4:20Speaker 3: some interests there, but we'll see if that actually comes
- 4:23Speaker 3: to fruition. So you know, there's you could have plans
- 4:26Speaker 3: and plans and plans, and then life takes on a
- 4:30Speaker 3: life of its own. Baseball, the baseball season takes on
- 4:32Speaker 3: a life of its own. That's kind of what happened
- 4:34Speaker 3: with the Socks last year.
- 4:36Speaker 2: Is that it jack check, That's what happened. Baseball happened,
- 4:38Speaker 2: and that's that's why. But they didn't improve by almost
- 4:40Speaker 2: twenty games. So baseball happened.
- 4:42Speaker 3: Hey, hey, Cluk, can I can I just say something
- 4:44Speaker 3: to all you doubters and all your critics about the
- 4:46Speaker 3: White Sox like, uh, persents, you can I add something here?
- 4:49Speaker 3: So I did interrupt you.
- 4:52Speaker 6: Go ahead, because I'm a Figgers. I'm like one of
- 4:54Speaker 6: the biggest fans.
- 4:54Speaker 2: I'm one of the few people on national media that
- 4:56Speaker 2: actually talk good about.
- 4:57Speaker 6: The White Sox.
- 4:58Speaker 3: So continue, Okay, who uh scored more runs after the
- 5:04Speaker 3: All Star break? The Dodgers?
- 5:08Speaker 6: Oh my god, I care who won the World Series? Chuck?
- 5:12Speaker 6: Who won the World Series? And who lost a Hunter game.
- 5:14Speaker 3: We were we were talking about the worst season in
- 5:17Speaker 3: the history of baseball. Our goals last year were not
- 5:20Speaker 3: exactly let's go to the World Series and win it. Okay,
- 5:24Speaker 3: And when I stay away, I say they I don't
- 5:26Speaker 3: work for the White Well, I kind of work for
- 5:27Speaker 3: the White Sox. No you do, Okay, White Sox, Dodgers, Tigers, Cubs.
- 5:34Speaker 3: Who had more runs after the All.
- 5:35Speaker 6: Star it's the White Sox. We know, Chuck. Everyone knows
- 5:38Speaker 6: this answer because you post.
- 5:40Speaker 3: No, they don't know the answer.
- 5:41Speaker 2: Media, Yes they do because everyone follows you. Listen, who
- 5:44Speaker 2: won the World Series in the second half? Okay, that's
- 5:47Speaker 2: great way to go. We have some cool young players,
- 5:51Speaker 2: But do you know how young players get better? You're
- 5:52Speaker 2: talking about the start, irrotation and the bullpen. You got
- 5:55Speaker 2: to bring in somebody that has some experience.
- 5:57Speaker 3: You can't have it.
- 5:58Speaker 2: If you want Shane Smith and you want all these
- 6:00Speaker 2: other guys to get better, Davis Martin and all these
- 6:03Speaker 2: other guys to get better and continue to grow, you
- 6:05Speaker 2: got to bring in some bullpen help that can help them.
- 6:08Speaker 2: And you got to bring in some veteran guys. So
- 6:09Speaker 2: you gotta find these guys. Anthony k and these guys, right,
- 6:12Speaker 2: you gotta find some veteran guys. So who do they
- 6:14Speaker 2: go out and get? Are we They're not gonna They're
- 6:16Speaker 2: not feeding at the top of the the top of
- 6:19Speaker 2: the free agent pools?
- 6:20Speaker 6: So who are some of the guys they can target
- 6:21Speaker 6: a little bit lower?
- 6:23Speaker 3: I got some names for you. I'm looking at innings.
- 6:26Speaker 3: They don't have a really well. Hagen Smith and Noah
- 6:30Speaker 3: Schultz are left handed, but I don't think they're gonna
- 6:32Speaker 3: break camp with the team and not expecting that to happen.
- 6:34Speaker 3: How about Patrick Corbin? He threw one hundred and I
- 6:37Speaker 3: think fifty five innings last season, had a better season
- 6:40Speaker 3: last year, and they did the three previous years. I
- 6:42Speaker 3: like Adrian Hauser. I like Michael Lorenzen, who's got some
- 6:46Speaker 3: history with the new pitching coach for the White Sox,
- 6:50Speaker 3: Zach Bove with the Royals. I think those are three
- 6:52Speaker 3: names that I would be targeting right now. What do
- 6:54Speaker 3: you guys think?
- 6:57Speaker 6: Sure?
- 6:59Speaker 2: Sure, Chuck, absolutely sure? I mean yes, yes, sign them all? Yes, yes,
- 7:05Speaker 2: absolutely absolutely, sign them all.
- 7:08Speaker 5: I don't think sign I don't think signing them all.
- 7:11Speaker 5: I think what you asked for is the innings. Yes,
- 7:14Speaker 5: then how does it fit, how does it fit with
- 7:16Speaker 5: the guys? It's the guy. Yes, I love I love
- 7:20Speaker 5: the Oh my gosh, I'm blanking on who.
- 7:23Speaker 4: You just said.
- 7:24Speaker 5: Because Corn Lorenzen, Lorenzen. I love the Lorenzen and I
- 7:29Speaker 5: love the Corbyn one because what does Corbyn do? Corbyn
- 7:32Speaker 5: takes the ball. You have taught your minor league guys,
- 7:35Speaker 5: whether they were injured or they weren't injured, or Shane
- 7:37Speaker 5: Smith was a rule five or not. You have to
- 7:40Speaker 5: learn to be a certain type of player. And if
- 7:42Speaker 5: you don't have somebody to look to, all you're doing
- 7:45Speaker 5: is just talking about stories. Patrick Corbyn got absolutely waffled
- 7:49Speaker 5: with the Nats. You know what he did though, he
- 7:51Speaker 5: made all thirty two starts. So if you bring up
- 7:53Speaker 5: guys who have never done it, I love I love
- 7:56Speaker 5: the example picks that you said.
- 7:58Speaker 4: I love that.
- 7:59Speaker 5: I I that's what changes an organization. But I'm afraid
- 8:04Speaker 5: some teams and I don't know the White Sox as
- 8:06Speaker 5: well as AJ would love to think I know the
- 8:08Speaker 5: White Sox. But I think that's how you end up
- 8:12Speaker 5: growing an organization that ends up winning one day, because
- 8:15Speaker 5: it's not happening right now, for sure, yeah.
- 8:17Speaker 3: I mean they have money to spend. I don't know
- 8:19Speaker 3: how much it's gonna be, but I think they can
- 8:20Speaker 3: play in those waters for sure for either of those
- 8:23Speaker 3: three guys.
- 8:25Speaker 4: Okay, so hit the corner outfielders.
- 8:28Speaker 5: Hit the corner outfitters for this vaunted second half offense
- 8:31Speaker 5: that you just alluded to or enlightened the entire national
- 8:36Speaker 5: baseball audience about where do these corner outfielders fit in?
- 8:42Speaker 5: But also how do they fit into the scope of
- 8:45Speaker 5: the future of the White Sox or else you're just
- 8:47Speaker 5: becoming an organization that just plays year to year to year.
- 8:51Speaker 3: Oh, they're trying to build something. And the reason why
- 8:53Speaker 3: I bring up the second half is just because I
- 8:56Speaker 3: looked at last year as two different seasons. The first
- 8:59Speaker 3: half they were like almost a carry over to the
- 9:02Speaker 3: season prior, which no one wanted to see. But then
- 9:05Speaker 3: middle of the year you had guys coming up like
- 9:08Speaker 3: Colson Montgomery, Chase Mydroth, Kyle Teel, and you just saw
- 9:12Speaker 3: a different offense and you saw actually a different Luis
- 9:14Speaker 3: Robert Junior until he got hurt and so we'll see
- 9:17Speaker 3: if he's gonna be a part of this team next year.
- 9:18Speaker 3: But Bradon Montgomery is one of their top prospects. He
- 9:21Speaker 3: will be here. I think at some point next year
- 9:24Speaker 3: that could be your right fielder when he comes up.
- 9:26Speaker 3: So I'm looking at corner outfielders who are available. I do.
- 9:31Speaker 3: I did like Adola's Garcia until he signed with the Phillies,
- 9:34Speaker 3: but I was thinking, you know, some team that's looking
- 9:36Speaker 3: to compete is gonna probably sign him, and he's probably
- 9:38Speaker 3: want to go to that kind of team anyway, so
- 9:39Speaker 3: I didn't think it was the best match. Austin Hayes.
- 9:43Speaker 3: What do you think about Austin Hayes. He can play left,
- 9:45Speaker 3: he can play right. He played with Ryan Fuller with
- 9:49Speaker 3: the Orioles when they're both. Ryan Fuller is the director
- 9:53Speaker 3: of hitting for the White Sox. He had a one
- 9:54Speaker 3: five ops plus with the Reds. He's been in the
- 9:57Speaker 3: playoffs three different times. I think he'd be a good
- 10:00Speaker 3: fit for the White Sox. I like that matchup for them,
- 10:05Speaker 3: and then I mean in a they could also be
- 10:08Speaker 3: looking for Ryan O'Hearn, who's more of a first base
- 10:10Speaker 3: when he can maybe play some right field to start
- 10:13Speaker 3: things off, then move over to first. I like him
- 10:15Speaker 3: as a fit for the White Sox as well, that's
- 10:17Speaker 3: not exactly a corner outfielder, but those are two names
- 10:19Speaker 3: that I'm kind of looking at right now for the socks.
- 10:24Speaker 1: For all the parents out there with teenagers like crats,
- 10:27Speaker 1: we know life's a little crazy.
- 10:29Speaker 5: Yeah, cash App's here to not add to the craziness.

- 11:25Speaker 6: Chuck, Chuck, Chuck.
- 11:31Speaker 1: What.
- 11:33Speaker 3: I just have mutual respect and love and.
- 11:37Speaker 6: I mean I love you to death, I really do.
- 11:39Speaker 6: You're our Chuck.
- 11:40Speaker 2: I get all that, but it's like for me as
- 11:43Speaker 2: a White Sox fan, like I want them to play
- 11:47Speaker 2: in the big boy waters at some point, man, like,
- 11:50Speaker 2: no offense to the guys you're naming, but gosh darn it,
- 11:54Speaker 2: Like I remember, Oh, we used to.
- 11:56Speaker 6: Talk about Tory Hunter and you know.
- 11:59Speaker 2: Bryce Harper are a man Nay Machado, and now we're
- 12:02Speaker 2: talking about guys.
- 12:04Speaker 6: No again, no offense, but they're not in the same level.
- 12:07Speaker 3: Of Okay, So who should the White Sox sign?
- 12:09Speaker 2: Well, you asked me, and you go your exact question.
- 12:12Speaker 2: You framed this headline horribly wrong by the way. You said,
- 12:16Speaker 2: do you think the White Sox should design Kyle Schwarber?
- 12:19Speaker 2: And I said absolutely, because they need veteran guy to
- 12:22Speaker 2: come in and start this rebuild with Teal in Montgomery
- 12:24Speaker 2: and my draw and all these guys. Right, and then
- 12:27Speaker 2: he went side with the Phillies. But you have to overpay,
- 12:29Speaker 2: and we all know the White Sox aren't gonna overpay, right.
- 12:31Speaker 2: So at some point it's just like we had Jim
- 12:33Speaker 2: Boonan and he said when they made an offer to
- 12:35Speaker 2: Swarba the Pirates, they had to overpay.
- 12:37Speaker 6: Right.
- 12:37Speaker 2: Well, if you look, and I hate this, it pains
- 12:39Speaker 2: me to death. You ask players, they've all been asked
- 12:43Speaker 2: the teams. No one wants to play for A's White
- 12:46Speaker 2: Sox are always right there. It's one and two, right,
- 12:48Speaker 2: So you got to do something to change the perception, Chuck,
- 12:51Speaker 2: And I don't know what that is. You got to win, right,
- 12:54Speaker 2: And I love the young players, TiO kiro. You keep
- 12:56Speaker 2: naming them blah blah blah right down the list, right,
- 12:59Speaker 2: But every year that it goes by, you lose a
- 13:01Speaker 2: year of control of these guys. And at some point
- 13:03Speaker 2: you're actually gonna have to say, this is our core.
- 13:05Speaker 2: We're going to add to this core, not let's draft
- 13:08Speaker 2: some more guys and let's trade for some more guys.
- 13:10Speaker 2: And if you ask Jim Bowden what he just said,
- 13:12Speaker 2: if you're in a big market, and you could say
- 13:14Speaker 2: what you want about the White Sox, but Chicago is
- 13:16Speaker 2: a big market team, Okay, you have to go out
- 13:19Speaker 2: and get stars because that helps you win on a
- 13:22Speaker 2: consistent basis, not hoping him praying that all twenty of
- 13:25Speaker 2: your prospects all turn out to be great players. You're
- 13:29Speaker 2: gonna have to go out and play in the big boypool.
- 13:32Speaker 3: The guy I wanted hands down going into this free
- 13:35Speaker 3: agency period was Kyle Schwarberg. There was your perfect fit
- 13:39Speaker 3: for the White Sox. But again, you would have had
- 13:41Speaker 3: a paid I mean to get him away from the Phillies.
- 13:45Speaker 3: What are we talking one hundred and eighty million dollars
- 13:47Speaker 3: for three years or do you know what the number
- 13:50Speaker 3: are fought for five years? It would have been astronomical
- 13:54Speaker 3: And is that the right way to be spending your
- 13:57Speaker 3: money with the White Sox? Can and see why they
- 14:00Speaker 3: didn't go down that road. But you know, after him outfielders,
- 14:04Speaker 3: I thought I came up with a couple of good
- 14:06Speaker 3: names there. But you don't like them. That's okay, I'm not.
- 14:09Speaker 6: I didn't like them. I didn't say't like them.
- 14:11Speaker 2: Why why are you giving Louise Robert twenty million dollars
- 14:13Speaker 2: a year like he should have been traded last year?
- 14:15Speaker 6: Boom?
- 14:16Speaker 2: See you right, Let someone else have to make that decision.
- 14:19Speaker 2: Don't keep them and then you say we're gonna spend money,
- 14:21Speaker 2: and they're like, but we gave Louise Robert twenty million dollars.
- 14:24Speaker 3: Right, Like, if you don't have Luise Robert Junior in
- 14:26Speaker 3: a team, who's your center fielder? That's the other thing,
- 14:28Speaker 3: Like you.
- 14:29Speaker 2: Go find somebody for less than twenty million dollars from
- 14:31Speaker 2: what you're saying, from what you just said, then you
- 14:33Speaker 2: go find someone else and you already have seen twenty
- 14:36Speaker 2: million dollars on your payroll. Right, Louise Robert can can
- 14:39Speaker 2: be a great player. The problem is Robert can't stay healthy.
- 14:44Speaker 3: Okay, that's what you say. That's what I say. And
- 14:46Speaker 3: yet you see these reports and all these teams still
- 14:49Speaker 3: want them, they.
- 14:50Speaker 6: All trade them. Okay, if they all want to train
- 14:53Speaker 6: happened and trade them? They might, they might say, if
- 14:57Speaker 6: all these teams won them, then you trade them.
- 14:59Speaker 2: You haven't been able to get the best out of him,
- 15:01Speaker 2: and everyone doesn't want to be all he traded Luis
- 15:04Speaker 2: Robert away. Blah blah blah whatever, But you k you
- 15:06Speaker 2: haven't been able to do it in what five six years?
- 15:08Speaker 6: Now? Then you get you give him away and get
- 15:11Speaker 6: something back and move on.
- 15:12Speaker 3: I was talking to Scott Boris at the winter meetings
- 15:14Speaker 3: and he said that, I mean he's now a Boris
- 15:16Speaker 3: client and he said, they you know something with his swing.
- 15:20Speaker 3: He did something and he's got better play disciplines back
- 15:23Speaker 3: in like August and he had a great end of
- 15:25Speaker 3: his season. And now he's actually training at the Boris
- 15:28Speaker 3: Academy and they're working on like how can he stay healthy?
- 15:31Speaker 3: And maybe maybe maybe it's all hypotheticals, maybe he finally
- 15:37Speaker 3: has that year like he had in twenty twenty three
- 15:39Speaker 3: when he looked like one of the best players in baseball.
- 15:42Speaker 3: Because the last two seasons have not been great for
- 15:44Speaker 3: Luis Robert Jr. Other teams seem willing to make that
- 15:47Speaker 3: bet on him, as do the White Sox. It's a
- 15:50Speaker 3: big question mark what's going to happen with him this
- 15:52Speaker 3: offseason and when the season begins and how he plays.
- 15:57Speaker 1: I while you guys have been chatting, and I purposely
- 16:00Speaker 1: took myself out of this. I don't like to play
- 16:02Speaker 1: this game too often. I'm gonna be super unrealistic. But
- 16:05Speaker 1: you're like, what would you want? Okay, if we added
- 16:08Speaker 1: If the White Sox added Kyle Tucker, Boba Schett and
- 16:10Speaker 1: Tatsuya am I, right, just throwing out like a potential
- 16:13Speaker 1: number one and the two star position players, right, they
- 16:16Speaker 1: maybe be a playoff contender. I think they would be
- 16:19Speaker 1: a playoff contender. That's adding maybe ten, ten twelve wins
- 16:22Speaker 1: to a team, right, maybe more. That would up their
- 16:25Speaker 1: payroll to about eighty million dollars next year. The luxury
- 16:30Speaker 1: tax number, which is a soft salary caps two forty
- 16:32Speaker 1: five ish. I think not even close. It's just crazy,
- 16:36Speaker 1: Like one to eighty is not like a crazy number
- 16:38Speaker 1: in our sport today. So I just didn't realize they're
- 16:41Speaker 1: at eighty. So they have room to spend, that's all. Yeah,
- 16:43Speaker 1: I'm saying they've roomed to spend.
- 16:45Speaker 3: They I think I've got the year right. I think
- 16:48Speaker 3: in twenty twenty two they had a payroll over one
- 16:50Speaker 3: hundred and eighty million dollars. The problem was how they
- 16:54Speaker 3: spent the money, who they spent it on. And here
- 16:57Speaker 3: we are all these years later, and I think the
- 17:00Speaker 3: White Sox lost a lot of money. You know, when
- 17:02Speaker 3: you have high payrolls and you have teams losing one
- 17:07Speaker 3: hundred games. I mean, look at the year that they
- 17:10Speaker 3: lost one hundred and twenty one games. They had, if
- 17:13Speaker 3: not the highest payroll in the American League Central, it
- 17:16Speaker 3: was right below the Twins, like one hundred and twenty
- 17:20Speaker 3: million dollars and they lost one hundred and twenty one games.
- 17:23Speaker 3: That's not good for the bottom line. And that is
- 17:27Speaker 3: I don't know for one hundred percent certain that's why
- 17:28Speaker 3: that's where the White Sox are right now. But it's
- 17:31Speaker 3: not as simple as you know, spend money, spend money,
- 17:34Speaker 3: fixed problem, fixed problem. I'd like to think it is
- 17:36Speaker 3: for all teams, but it probably isn't. And you know,
- 17:39Speaker 3: I'm not privy to the financials. I just look at wins, payroll, attendance,
- 17:46Speaker 3: and those three have not put the White Sox in
- 17:48Speaker 3: the best of shape financially to go out and compete
- 17:51Speaker 3: with the Phillies. For Kyle Schwarber, right, that's fair on Schober.
- 17:54Speaker 1: I'm just saying, like where And I wouldn't have gone
- 17:56Speaker 1: that Rode. I go the other route. I see Shorb's
- 17:59Speaker 1: thirty three, right, I'm trying to sign the young star
- 18:02Speaker 1: free agent. The two guys I brought up are much
- 18:04Speaker 1: much younger, right, So I'm like, where's my where's my
- 18:07Speaker 1: Jason Worth? For the White Sox organization, it's certainly possible.
- 18:11Speaker 1: If they sign their Jason Worth this offseason for thirty
- 18:13Speaker 1: million year, their payroll would be one ten. I think
- 18:16Speaker 1: that's still less than the Twins.
- 18:18Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 18:19Speaker 3: I think if the Socks start winning and more people
- 18:22Speaker 3: come to the ballpark, more money will be spent. I
- 18:26Speaker 3: mean that's I think it's just that's his business right there.
- 18:28Speaker 1: But no doubt, it's the reverse. That's the thing, right,
- 18:31Speaker 1: it's the reverse.
- 18:33Speaker 3: You can also spend money on the player, get more wins,
- 18:37Speaker 3: get more fans. No, I see it. But but I'm
- 18:40Speaker 3: also like, they're in a rebuild, and you don't want
- 18:43Speaker 3: to be necessarily blocking guys who could potentially be a
- 18:46Speaker 3: part of your rebuild. So you can fix a temporary
- 18:49Speaker 3: problem with a player like a Kyle Tucker, who obviously
- 18:53Speaker 3: I would love to have Kyle Tucker on the White Sox.
- 18:55Speaker 1: Don't block anyone, Chuck, Kyle can block anyone. I don't
- 18:58Speaker 1: give a crap. He can block anyone, right, I think
- 19:01Speaker 1: everyone would be fair. I got what you're saying. You
- 19:03Speaker 1: don't want to you don't want to block prospects. That's fine,
- 19:05Speaker 1: but there's room, right, It's not like it's one hole
- 19:08Speaker 1: to film I know some of this stuff sounds unrealistic,
- 19:10Speaker 1: but I feel like we've gone so far the other
- 19:12Speaker 1: way where we're like we're bargain bin shopping, and that's
- 19:16Speaker 1: This is just me trying to rationally speak to what
- 19:20Speaker 1: aj is thinking right now as I sit next to him.
- 19:23Speaker 1: Very often, AJ am, I on the money.
- 19:26Speaker 6: No, you're right, You're right. I I listen. I want
- 19:28Speaker 6: the White Sox to be good. I want to.
- 19:30Speaker 2: I want to people say I'm a White Sox fan,
- 19:33Speaker 2: and every question I get is why do they stink?
- 19:36Speaker 6: I mean, it's just and I have to defend them with.
- 19:38Speaker 2: Oh, they have all these prospects coming right, and I
- 19:40Speaker 2: can rattle them all off, right, and then I then I.
- 19:43Speaker 3: Look and there's no guarantee they're going to turn out exactly.
- 19:46Speaker 2: So, I mean, you know, all Mancata was supposed to
- 19:48Speaker 2: be the greatest thing elo him in is right, Luis Robert,
- 19:51Speaker 2: that whole crew didn't work, so now they got to
- 19:53Speaker 2: try again, and it's like it's just a constant rebuild
- 19:56Speaker 2: and I'm tired of it.
- 19:57Speaker 3: So sorry, Well, you know, listen, I mean I've been
- 19:59Speaker 3: at Winter Meet and covered off seasons where the White
- 20:02Speaker 3: Sox spent. They didn't go all the way to get
- 20:05Speaker 3: Machado and Harper, but they beat out teams for Yasmani Grondal,
- 20:09Speaker 3: and they beat out teams for Undrew been attendee, and
- 20:12Speaker 3: they probably overpaid for both of those guys right to
- 20:15Speaker 3: get them. So they have spent in the past, in
- 20:17Speaker 3: the not so distant past. But you know, I look,
- 20:22Speaker 3: I am like you, ag. I look forward to the
- 20:24Speaker 3: days when they can compete for these top of the
- 20:27Speaker 3: line players. I mean, they used to do this. It'll
- 20:31Speaker 3: be in their future, I hope, but right now, from
- 20:33Speaker 3: what I've been told, they're not doing that. So this
- 20:36Speaker 3: is what I'm reporting and predicting for them to do
- 20:39Speaker 3: this offseason.
- 20:40Speaker 1: And Chuck, you're a good sport. And on the way
- 20:42Speaker 1: out here, I will say this and I mean this sincerely.
- 20:46Speaker 1: Best part right now of the White Sox and the
- 20:49Speaker 1: product that I watch is pre and post and it's
- 20:52Speaker 1: it's actually less a knock on the White Sox and
- 20:54Speaker 1: more how much I praise what you and Ozzie and
- 20:58Speaker 1: the crew do because it's freaking entertain It is not
- 21:00Speaker 1: easy to do that. I've called games when the teams
- 21:03Speaker 1: are not good, they stink and you need to entertain
- 21:06Speaker 1: People are still watching you and you're the soundtrack of
- 21:08Speaker 1: the summer. So we love what you guys do and
- 21:11Speaker 1: we appreciate that you guys have like the freedom to
- 21:14Speaker 1: just go wherever you want to go. Right the winding
- 21:17Speaker 1: road of Ozzy in on a postgame show is very entertaining.
- 21:21Speaker 1: So good to see you, man, and happy holidays.
- 21:24Speaker 3: Hey, thanks, I appreciate it. Always love coming on your show.
- 21:27Speaker 3: It's a great show. That's you guys have filled a
- 21:29Speaker 3: space that's needed and it is great to do that
- 21:32Speaker 3: show with Ozzy Gian. We love doing it and we're
- 21:35Speaker 3: just trying to give people some truth and some entertainment
- 21:39Speaker 3: and some baseball in there too.
- 21:41Speaker 1: You're doing it. You're keeping AJ like a little bit
- 21:44Speaker 1: on the rails after the games. So thank you, Chuck.
- 21:47Speaker 3: You're the man, all right, Happy holidays, have a great
- 21:51Speaker 3: vacation AJ. Talk to you guys later, fellas.
- 21:53Speaker 4: Yes, how we doing AJ? What the heck? Man? Way
- 21:56Speaker 4: to go, dude, And I'm still having to be Bronnie.
- 21:59Speaker 4: Come on, man, you can do you guys, let me
- 22:02Speaker 4: on your show. I love it.
- 22:04Speaker 6: Rex.
- 22:04Speaker 1: We're excited to see you man, And I don't know
- 22:06Speaker 1: if you heard my joke, but I was like, this
- 22:09Speaker 1: isn't the NBA. There's not some forty eight hour deadline.
- 22:12Speaker 1: I love it for the Royals, but they're doing everything
- 22:14Speaker 1: in five minutes here, So I mean, can you run
- 22:17Speaker 1: through the move analysis as quickly as they've been making
- 22:20Speaker 1: the moves?
- 22:21Speaker 4: Absolutely? Look, this team is looking to win another World Series.
- 22:25Speaker 4: They're the last small market to do it. Why not
- 22:27Speaker 4: do it again eleven years later? They're close. They're making
- 22:31Speaker 4: a few nice adjustments now. I like what JJ Picolo's doing.
- 22:35Speaker 4: They're waiting for the big bat though. Okay, that's the thing.
- 22:38Speaker 4: They've acquired a couple of real nice outfielders. One's a
- 22:41Speaker 4: young guy wants a veteran in lane Thomas and the
- 22:43Speaker 4: young the young kid that we just got Isaac Collins.
- 22:46Speaker 4: They like him a lot for what he can do.
- 22:48Speaker 4: He's young, fourth in Rookie of the Year. Uh plays
- 22:53Speaker 4: plays mainly. They got him to play left field, but
- 22:56Speaker 4: he also had some reps at third base and second base.
- 22:59Speaker 4: So this is good. The Royals outfield for the last
- 23:01Speaker 4: two years fellas no production zero. It's been really tough.
- 23:06Speaker 4: Put a lot of pressure on the top four hitters.
- 23:08Speaker 4: You got a premium leadoff hitter in Garcia, one of
- 23:12Speaker 4: the best players in baseball, Junior Bobby Baseball, second place
- 23:17Speaker 4: hitter and the third spots pass Buentino. He's become a
- 23:20Speaker 4: guy now, Okay, Vinnie's the guy no more. Well, I
- 23:24Speaker 4: wonder what Vinnie can do. We know what he can do.
- 23:26Speaker 4: He's a run producer, he's a slugger. And they got
- 23:30Speaker 4: the captains and we signed for two more years. So
- 23:32Speaker 4: this Royals lineup is getting longer and longer. And that's
- 23:35Speaker 4: what you need to win a title. And they've done
- 23:37Speaker 4: it before. And like I said, JJ inherited the championship
- 23:43Speaker 4: pedigree and the DNA from Dayton Moore, so he has
- 23:47Speaker 4: an idea. He knows what they need. There's a couple
- 23:50Speaker 4: of knees out there for him still, but still the
- 23:53Speaker 4: outfield spot. Let's stay tuned. They're not done there.
- 23:57Speaker 5: You said they needed that big bat and they were
- 23:58Speaker 5: connected with Santa there. They didn't quite get it in
- 24:01Speaker 5: before the Blue Jays did last year. Now that you know,
- 24:04Speaker 5: you heard stuff like ta Oscar Hernandez, tell me if
- 24:07Speaker 5: I'm wrong, are the Royals willing to change their DNA
- 24:11Speaker 5: to get that big outfield back because that DNA is
- 24:15Speaker 5: you're gonna have to run around all of Kaufman and
- 24:18Speaker 5: you're gonna have to cover all that ground in our outfield?
- 24:21Speaker 5: Are they willing to change it and go, man, we
- 24:23Speaker 5: just got no production. I don't care if you can't
- 24:26Speaker 5: run around. We're gonna have Jack Kags out there, who's
- 24:29Speaker 5: kind of a bigger not like the big Royal outfield defense.
- 24:33Speaker 5: Are they willing to make that change to go for
- 24:35Speaker 5: that big outfield back that can't cover as much ground?
- 24:39Speaker 4: Mmmm? You know, I think they're willing to give up
- 24:41Speaker 4: a little bit of range in left field there for sure.
- 24:43Speaker 4: But you know tag le Own, they said that he
- 24:46Speaker 4: you know, he wouldn't be able to cover the ground
- 24:48Speaker 4: in Coffin Stadium. And that kid, he's a good athlete.
- 24:51Speaker 4: I watched him play the end, you know, his entire
- 24:54Speaker 4: year this year when he when he was at Kaufman
- 24:56Speaker 4: and on the road and he could play first base.
- 24:58Speaker 4: We know that he's a good first space went over there,
- 25:00Speaker 4: big target to throw to, but his range and his
- 25:03Speaker 4: first step quickness was impressive. So this kid, he's going
- 25:06Speaker 4: to be a part of their next championship. There's no
- 25:08Speaker 4: doubt about it. Now we'll see how he starts the season.
- 25:11Speaker 4: Whether whether they you know, depends on what they acquire
- 25:14Speaker 4: here the rest of the way down in this in
- 25:16Speaker 4: this offseason and up the spring, the CAGs will be
- 25:19Speaker 4: a big part of it. No one's dethrowned isbel Kyle
- 25:22Speaker 4: Isabel a centerfielder. He's good every year, makes all the
- 25:26Speaker 4: plays in centerfield, and you need that in our big ballpark.
- 25:28Speaker 4: So you know, they can get away with a with
- 25:31Speaker 4: a slugger in left field. I'm sure that'll that won't
- 25:34Speaker 4: be a problem. But this kid, Isaac Collins, he's going
- 25:36Speaker 4: to be a nice what if player? You know, what
- 25:39Speaker 4: if something happens in left field and they don't have
- 25:41Speaker 4: a guy, well he could he could put that down.
- 25:44Speaker 4: You know he had you know he he had nine
- 25:47Speaker 4: homers and fifty four ribbonies in one hundred and thirty games.
- 25:50Speaker 4: And he's just a young player. So this kid, he
- 25:53Speaker 4: changes scenery for him. Could be good, especially when he
- 25:56Speaker 4: gets around all those other sluggers. So i'd ask your ques,
- 26:00Speaker 4: Russian speed is going to be their game for sure.
- 26:02Speaker 4: They love to attack, they love to put the ball
- 26:04Speaker 4: in play. With this kid, Isaac Collins, he does that
- 26:07Speaker 4: as well. He doesn't swing and miss very much. He
- 26:10Speaker 4: puts the ball in play and that's a Royal signature.
- 26:12Speaker 4: And Cratsy, you were around when that happened. Man, they
- 26:15Speaker 4: pressure defenses with their speed, so I mean they'll be
- 26:18Speaker 4: willing to give up a little ground in the outfield,
- 26:20Speaker 4: but they're still not going to completely lose their DNA.
- 26:23Speaker 6: Well, there's another time about Duran coming over.
- 26:28Speaker 4: You're not going to lose anything with that kid, right,
- 26:31Speaker 4: you know.
- 26:32Speaker 6: You're fitting nicely, defense speed a little at all.
- 26:35Speaker 4: And I saw that JJ. These kids nowadays that come up, man,
- 26:39Speaker 4: it's amazing to see the skill level they have. This
- 26:42Speaker 4: kid's blazing fast. I mean he'll go first to third
- 26:44Speaker 4: in a heartbeat. That's the Royals trade attacking defenses, and
- 26:49Speaker 4: he fits everything that the Royals are and let's hope
- 26:53Speaker 4: that that works. You know, they can't get they want.
- 26:55Speaker 4: They want Reagan's, they want our number one. You can't
- 26:58Speaker 4: have him straight up, Ah, No, Reagan's is the number
- 27:02Speaker 4: one starter in the postseason. You can't give up that
- 27:05Speaker 4: guy for him. They're gonna have to package it up
- 27:08Speaker 4: a couple other guys. We got plenty of starting pitching
- 27:10Speaker 4: for people, but this kid. I like him. I like
- 27:13Speaker 4: his mindset. He attacks, he's aggressive, he swings the bats
- 27:17Speaker 4: from the left side, and that's what they need. Another
- 27:19Speaker 4: left handed bat in there to go with Salvi, Salvi
- 27:22Speaker 4: and Junior and Garcia, those are all right handed bats.
- 27:26Speaker 4: Put him in there in the middle of past Buentino.
- 27:28Speaker 4: That that lines up, you know, linked that line up
- 27:31Speaker 4: a little bit there, and to go along with that
- 27:33Speaker 4: in the pen to win. Are you kidding? They just
- 27:36Speaker 4: picked up They just picked up this kid that they
- 27:39Speaker 4: got from from the Brewers. They like him. Uh. And
- 27:43Speaker 4: then so now you're you're you're messy, You're you're talking
- 27:46Speaker 4: about bringing in another right handed pitcher for Lucas Ersak,
- 27:49Speaker 4: who throws hard. He's a mid nineties, upper nineties pitcher.
- 27:52Speaker 4: And then you know Carlos Estevez who led the world
- 27:55Speaker 4: in safs last year. So if a bullpen ca if
- 27:58Speaker 4: they can find any resemblance to the pin they had
- 28:00Speaker 4: eleven years ago. Look, I like the Royals chances this
- 28:04Speaker 4: year in their own division. And further is there.
- 28:09Speaker 5: Is there a place where this team needs to take
- 28:15Speaker 5: away from that starting pitching. Like you said, Cole Reagans,
- 28:19Speaker 5: you can't get rid of Cole Reagan's I get it.
- 28:20Speaker 5: He had a hurt year last year, but he almost
- 28:22Speaker 5: had one hundred strikeouts in sixty innings, Like you can't.
- 28:25Speaker 5: Can they take away more of the starting pitching? And
- 28:27Speaker 5: I asked that because last year they gave Brady Singer
- 28:31Speaker 5: to the Reds for Jonathan India and Jonathan India was
- 28:34Speaker 5: on the bench and it didn't work out. Are they
- 28:36Speaker 5: afraid of that happening again because they took away thirty
- 28:40Speaker 5: two starts? Brady Singer wasn't a cy young candidate last year.
- 28:43Speaker 5: I get it, but thirty two starts at thirty two starts?
- 28:46Speaker 5: Like when you take that out of a rotation? Are
- 28:49Speaker 5: they willing to do that again because it didn't work
- 28:53Speaker 5: out with the India trade from last year?
- 28:56Speaker 4: Yes? They are? Are you kidding? Time is close with
- 29:00Speaker 4: the Royals wanting to build a new ballpark in a
- 29:02Speaker 4: few more years. This is the time where you win,
- 29:06Speaker 4: you start drawing your fan base and start getting them
- 29:08Speaker 4: excited again. And they already are. We've had two winning
- 29:11Speaker 4: seasons in a row, which is which is big for
- 29:13Speaker 4: Kansas City, but they already are. They want to win
- 29:16Speaker 4: as they're moving into this new ballpark and they're close.
- 29:19Speaker 4: Why not you have to give up something to get
- 29:21Speaker 4: me something. So yeah, they've got plenty of pitching. They've
- 29:24Speaker 4: got ten or eleven starters to draw from. I don't
- 29:27Speaker 4: know if they'll draw from the older guys, you know,
- 29:29Speaker 4: like Lugo walk of that. You know, those guys are
- 29:32Speaker 4: already established, and they're probably looking for some of the
- 29:34Speaker 4: younger guys like Camera Cameron, who was brilliant last year,
- 29:37Speaker 4: left handed that could throw strikes. You know, they've got
- 29:40Speaker 4: a few options. So India didn't scare them away obviously,
- 29:44Speaker 4: because they've gave him another year. This year, they re
- 29:46Speaker 4: signed him, so you know they have faith that he'll
- 29:50Speaker 4: come back and have a bounce back season. But to
- 29:52Speaker 4: answer that question, no, you don't win unless you give up.
- 29:56Speaker 4: You got to give up something to get something.
- 29:59Speaker 2: All right, in the new stadium gets done as long
- 30:01Speaker 2: as Frank White doesn't vote against it. But we don't
- 30:03Speaker 2: have time to get into that whole thing, all right, No, No,
- 30:06Speaker 2: we don't have We don't have time. We don't have
- 30:08Speaker 2: time to dig into that. That was a whole different story.
- 30:10Speaker 2: But I want to know about Zurpa. I know they
- 30:12Speaker 2: gave up Zerpa, but what was so great about him?
- 30:14Speaker 2: Because the Brewers gave up two pretty good players for
- 30:18Speaker 2: this guy that's lefty out of the bullpen.
- 30:20Speaker 6: What does he do and what are the Royals losing
- 30:22Speaker 6: in him? Because he got him back two good players.
- 30:27Speaker 4: Rick means Is is a pitcher that the Royals have
- 30:30Speaker 4: been eyeballing for two or three years now when he
- 30:32Speaker 4: was with the Rockies. This kid, he's twenty nine years old.
- 30:36Speaker 4: He has above average fastball. He's gonna fit right in there.
- 30:39Speaker 4: Like I said with Ursag and Essebez at the end
- 30:42Speaker 4: of their bullpen. But you know they they needed a
- 30:46Speaker 4: left hander, they say, I mean the Royals, dude, jj
- 30:49Speaker 4: I just talked to him today. He said, Hudd, we'd
- 30:51Speaker 4: like a left handed reliever. I know, we just gave
- 30:53Speaker 4: one Zurpa. You know he had a hard time against
- 30:56Speaker 4: Ridy's last year, and you know that's what you want.
- 30:58Speaker 4: I left you to be able to get out the rightings.
- 31:00Speaker 4: I mean they can. They have a pretty good edge
- 31:02Speaker 4: on the lefties anyway because of the left on left
- 31:04Speaker 4: and breaking balls moving away from him. But they're gonna
- 31:08Speaker 4: have The Royals don't have to have to add in
- 31:10Speaker 4: a lieftenans A bullpen guy down the road. He's strong
- 31:15Speaker 4: and he's young. He throws hard. But you know, obviously
- 31:20Speaker 4: the Brewers liked him. You know, somebody sees something in
- 31:22Speaker 4: a player that's in that organization that's they're willing to
- 31:25Speaker 4: make a move. But I'm with you, uh aj. I
- 31:29Speaker 4: mean Nick, Nick Mirs this kid that they just got
- 31:33Speaker 4: and the Isaac. Those are two real nice pieces to
- 31:36Speaker 4: their championship puzzle. So yeah, we say thank you to
- 31:39Speaker 4: the Brewers. But look, trades are made for both teams.
- 31:43Speaker 6: One.
- 31:44Speaker 4: You're not trying to beat another team in a trade.
- 31:46Speaker 4: You don't do that. That's not that's not good business.
- 31:49Speaker 4: You know, you're you're always hopeful that both both ends
- 31:52Speaker 4: work out, and let's hope that that it does in
- 31:55Speaker 4: this case here, But the Royals will take the two
- 31:57Speaker 4: guys that got for Zura.
- 32:07Speaker 1: You're a TV guy, Rex, I know you're like a
- 32:09Speaker 1: fancy little graphic. So last portion of the conversation here,
- 32:13Speaker 1: I want you to do a little shopping for us.
- 32:15Speaker 1: I know they've been doing a ton of bit already
- 32:17Speaker 1: for you, but kind of hinted to what you'd like
- 32:19Speaker 1: to see here. If you want to throw a name
- 32:21Speaker 1: out there, that's fine. If not, that's okay too, but
- 32:23Speaker 1: just kind of finish the puzzle for Kansas City. I mean,
- 32:26Speaker 1: we saw our guy Ken Rosenthal part of this show
- 32:28Speaker 1: put out, hey, they're going to trade for an outfit
- 32:30Speaker 1: or they're going to sign when they did that in
- 32:31Speaker 1: five minutes. So what do you thinks next or what
- 32:33Speaker 1: would you like to see if it was up to you.
- 32:37Speaker 4: Well, AJ hit the nail on the head. We need
- 32:39Speaker 4: an action player. Okay, the kid Dron's got, he got
- 32:42Speaker 4: power to besides the speed. I like the speed. His
- 32:44Speaker 4: defense is a little shaky, and that's not normally a
- 32:48Speaker 4: Royals trade. We always have gold. And speaking of gold,
- 32:52Speaker 4: a left side of the infield in the major leagues
- 32:54Speaker 4: with two gold glovers call the cops. Garcia was nails.
- 33:00Speaker 4: He made plays over there that would make Brooks Robinson
- 33:03Speaker 4: who in awe? I mean to tell you he's got
- 33:06Speaker 4: a great arm, a great arm and his range. He's
- 33:10Speaker 4: a shortstop. So you got two short stops on the
- 33:12Speaker 4: left side of the infield, and you've got a few
- 33:14Speaker 4: left handed starters. Had a lot of ground balls on
- 33:16Speaker 4: that left side. You know what that equates to outs?
- 33:20Speaker 4: That's all you're looking for outs no matter how you
- 33:23Speaker 4: get him. Now, we got some strikeout guys in that
- 33:25Speaker 4: waste of the pitch counts. But man, I like guys.
- 33:28Speaker 4: I like action pitchers who get those outs early. They
- 33:31Speaker 4: stay in the game longer and get you the pin
- 33:34Speaker 4: to win. Watch it, it's gonna happen. Isbell and center
- 33:38Speaker 4: feels awesome. Michael Matthew won a gold Glove in the
- 33:41Speaker 4: Minor League three years ago. He's he's shaking some injury
- 33:44Speaker 4: bugs and now he's a solid left handed bat. He
- 33:48Speaker 4: looks really good. And then Passquatch has been the most
- 33:51Speaker 4: improved for his baseman I've ever seen. And when I
- 33:54Speaker 4: was a player, I played next to gold Man. You
- 33:56Speaker 4: know JT. Snow won six or seven. Donnie Maddingly played,
- 34:00Speaker 4: you know he won what eight or nine? I mean?
- 34:02Speaker 4: So the infield and a gold bluff first basement caliber,
- 34:05Speaker 4: that's important. Pass Batch is a big target, so that
- 34:08Speaker 4: whole infield is close to gold. Salvador Perez behind the plate.
- 34:12Speaker 4: He may be thirty six years old, he can't tell it.
- 34:15Speaker 4: He's the hardest working player in the game. He shows
- 34:19Speaker 4: up early, working on his blocks. He's all He's asking
- 34:21Speaker 4: the coaches this guy's a Hall of Famer, a future
- 34:24Speaker 4: he's already a five time Gold Glover. He's asking them,
- 34:27Speaker 4: how can I get better work with me? I'm important
- 34:31Speaker 4: to our pitching staff. So with the attitude and the
- 34:34Speaker 4: world championship pedigree of Salvador Perez, that infield might be
- 34:38Speaker 4: the best in field in baseball. I like it.
- 34:43Speaker 1: Yeah, tell us a little bit. Let's finish with this
- 34:45Speaker 1: about how things changed for MIKEL. Garcia this past season.
- 34:50Speaker 1: I mean, he was good two years ago, and you
- 34:53Speaker 1: know this, The game has changed, right. You can project
- 34:56Speaker 1: a little bit differently nowadays based on some metrics and
- 35:01Speaker 1: peripherals that you see, and it doesn't always pan out
- 35:04Speaker 1: that way, Rex, But when it does, like what you
- 35:06Speaker 1: just saw from rec from MIKEL. Garcia this past season,
- 35:09Speaker 1: and you use a stat like wins above replacement, he
- 35:11Speaker 1: was top fifteen among position players, right, the stat which
- 35:15Speaker 1: gets skewed per organization. They've got their own version of it, somedo.
- 35:20Speaker 1: The stats said top fifteen position players. So what did
- 35:23Speaker 1: it look like and what changed?
- 35:26Speaker 4: Confidence? He had a he had a rough year the
- 35:29Speaker 4: year before. Okay, he uh, they put him in the
- 35:34Speaker 4: leadoff spot, they put him second, They tried to play well. Actually,
- 35:37Speaker 4: juniors always had the second spot, but he's he didn't
- 35:40Speaker 4: work out in the top of the order. They put
- 35:42Speaker 4: him down, you know, he just he just didn't have
- 35:44Speaker 4: any confidence. He had a lot of ground balls and
- 35:46Speaker 4: he to the full side, so he it wasn't the
- 35:50Speaker 4: player he was the year before that. So this year
- 35:53Speaker 4: he comes in and they he goes off right away.
- 35:57Speaker 4: They put him at the top of the order, and
- 35:58Speaker 4: then they moved him down some down in the ninth hole.
- 36:01Speaker 4: But he just said, it's my turn. I know I
- 36:04Speaker 4: can play up here. I know I can hit up here.
- 36:06Speaker 4: He understands that he'd love to play shortstop, everybody would,
- 36:10Speaker 4: but Bobby Wood Junior's got that spot lockdown. So he
- 36:13Speaker 4: went over to third base and said, I'm just going
- 36:15Speaker 4: to play third base like I do shortstop. Everything to
- 36:18Speaker 4: my left is not getting through, and you got Bobby
- 36:21Speaker 4: WIT's range over there is shortstop, hardly anything, and you
- 36:23Speaker 4: got to hit it hard to get it through that infield, Junior,
- 36:26Speaker 4: I mean, Garcia coming in on plays little numbers, little bunts.
- 36:32Speaker 4: Nobody really buns on him, but they hit those toppers.
- 36:35Speaker 4: He comes in bare headed and makes that play. Is
- 36:37Speaker 4: good or better than anyone I've ever seen. Tim Wallach
- 36:40Speaker 4: pretty good third basement in my day. He's better than
- 36:43Speaker 4: Eli coming in on that. It's because of his arm.
- 36:46Speaker 4: That's one side he wins you games on defense. Now,
- 36:49Speaker 4: his bat is a level bat you love that stays
- 36:53Speaker 4: in the in the zone a long time, and he
- 36:55Speaker 4: goes line to line. You can't read him. You can't
- 36:58Speaker 4: play in one particular way straight up for he and Bobby,
- 37:02Speaker 4: and that's how that's a beautiful duo tandem team. Also,
- 37:06Speaker 4: I credit the Royal Spur extendon Garcia, but he gained
- 37:10Speaker 4: his confidence back and he became a guy too. So
- 37:14Speaker 4: you have Vinnie Paspentino became a guy, Garcia became a guy.
- 37:18Speaker 4: Junior is already a guy, and we're looking for a
- 37:20Speaker 4: guy in left field and we have a guy behind
- 37:23Speaker 4: the plate. So I don't think I can brag anymore.
- 37:25Speaker 4: And we've never had starting pitching going into the offseason
- 37:30Speaker 4: like this in my fourteen years here. And the bullpen's
- 37:33Speaker 4: pretty much set as well, So it's exciting fans this offseason.
- 37:37Speaker 4: When I go to Costco, I loved talking to the fans.
- 37:41Speaker 4: They're like, oh, are you excited? What a question. We
- 37:44Speaker 4: got a chance to go all the way again, but look,
- 37:46Speaker 4: it's a long season. We know that. An injuries, you know,
- 37:48Speaker 4: that's a big part of the game. No one knows that.
- 37:51Speaker 4: That's why when they give you a call and they go, well,
- 37:55Speaker 4: who do you think is gonna win this year? Baseball
- 37:58Speaker 4: is impossible to call. You can't predict the game. I
- 38:02Speaker 4: remember in fourteen they won, They went all the way
- 38:04Speaker 4: to the World Series. They were picked to finish last,
- 38:07Speaker 4: and they went all the way and lost in Game
- 38:09Speaker 4: seven to freaking Bumgarner. Guy comes out of the bullpen
- 38:12Speaker 4: after shutting down the Royal as a day before or
- 38:15Speaker 4: two days before, and he throws four and he's really,
- 38:17Speaker 4: they would have won that one. And then next year
- 38:20Speaker 4: in fifteen, all the great minds of the game of baseball,
- 38:23Speaker 4: the experts, they predicted the Royals would finished last again,
- 38:27Speaker 4: and what do they do? They went back to back.
- 38:29Speaker 4: This time they won the World Series. You can't predict baseball.
- 38:34Speaker 4: It's on paper. You could look at it and go, wow,
- 38:37Speaker 4: this should be but nobody can because the round ball
- 38:42Speaker 4: in the round bat dictate what's gonna happen, and you
- 38:46Speaker 4: no one never knows nothing. So it's exciting. We are excited. AJ.
- 38:50Speaker 4: What do you think about that?
- 38:51Speaker 1: Anally, that's a promo cut right there.
- 38:53Speaker 4: AJ, you know what I'm talking about.
- 38:55Speaker 2: Yeah, but wait, everybody, Dodgers are gonna win every game, Rex,
- 38:59Speaker 2: and you know one can be the Yankees. And but
- 39:02Speaker 2: like the sport is ruined and the Chiefs missed the playoffs,
- 39:06Speaker 2: so they need a good team in Kansas City. I know, boo,
- 39:10Speaker 2: all the Swifties are out there going, we can't watch
- 39:14Speaker 2: trailer's boyfriend play anymore, right, so boo hoo for Kansas City.
- 39:19Speaker 4: Yeah no, no, let me just share you fourteen and fifteen. Hey, look,
- 39:23Speaker 4: that were last small market team to do that, that's
- 39:26Speaker 4: for sure. But that started it, and then we look
- 39:29Speaker 4: what happened the next ten years. The Chiefs won the
- 39:32Speaker 4: whole decade, believe it. Look, you can't stay on top forever.
- 39:35Speaker 4: Pretty nice run, though, you guys will have to say,
- 39:38Speaker 4: the homes got hurt. First time in ten years. The
- 39:41Speaker 4: best quarterback got hurt. So yeah, they're they're dude to
- 39:45Speaker 4: start coming home a little bit. They got us spanking
- 39:47Speaker 4: in last year's Super Bowl and that started it. But
- 39:49Speaker 4: look there, Kansas City is the championship city. There's no
- 39:54Speaker 4: question about it. So it's the Royals turn to get
- 39:57Speaker 4: back up on top again. You watch it. If barring
- 40:01Speaker 4: any bad and he major injuries, it could happen because
- 40:04Speaker 4: sal Man. But Salvi, he wants another title before he
- 40:11Speaker 4: goes into the sunset and then accepts his Hall of
- 40:14Speaker 4: Fame in five years. He wants another one to give
- 40:17Speaker 4: to the Royals fans. There's not a more dedicated young
- 40:20Speaker 4: man than Salvado Bress. He's he carries the team on
- 40:23Speaker 4: his back. This guy is an incredible human being. He
- 40:28Speaker 4: loves his fan base. He goes out of the way
- 40:30Speaker 4: for the fan base. You know, you guys saw where
- 40:32Speaker 4: he played. He pulled over one time, saw these kids
- 40:35Speaker 4: playing whiffleball and he joined him in the backyard. Made
- 40:37Speaker 4: their lives. This the guy is amazing. So you know
- 40:41Speaker 4: it's this Kansas city. They should be feared, and I'm
- 40:46Speaker 4: sure they will. They will.
- 40:47Speaker 1: Hey, that's why we called you first call the day,
- 40:50Speaker 1: Rex Odler, You're the man bringing the energy to waking
- 40:53Speaker 1: us up on a Monday. We love your Rex, great.
- 40:56Speaker 4: Your beautiful man. A j oh my gosh, I was
- 40:59Speaker 4: broadcasting season in your world championship year.
- 41:02Speaker 6: That was the rax year old. You're so old you
- 41:05Speaker 6: broadcast my debut. I think.
- 41:08Speaker 4: I might have Hey, but I gotta I gotta tell
- 41:10Speaker 4: you that Noah Cameron real quick reminds us all of Burley.
- 41:15Speaker 6: Mm hmmmm quickness.
- 41:18Speaker 4: No getting the ball and throwing it. Just just just.
- 41:22Speaker 6: Let's just let's take a step back.
- 41:25Speaker 4: Okay, let's let's let's see.
- 41:28Speaker 6: Let's let's yeah, let's the biggest step back.
- 41:32Speaker 1: If he takes off Rex, we'll bring you back and
- 41:34Speaker 1: we'll do We'll do fifteen minutes on him.
- 41:36Speaker 4: Okay, deal, Thank you guys. Have a great day Christmas.
- 41:41Speaker 1: Yes, good to see the great Rex O.
