- 0:02Speaker 1: All right, X bowl is a simple question. What were
- 0:06Speaker 1: you not prepared for?
- 0:08Speaker 2: What? What were you surprised?
- 0:10Speaker 1: You became an adult and you went what, wait a minute,
- 0:12Speaker 1: how did this happen?
- 0:14Speaker 2: Or you thought it would be Yeah, you weren't prepared
- 0:17Speaker 2: for you know, you knew it might be hard, but
- 0:20Speaker 2: you didn't realize how hard paying taxes.
- 0:24Speaker 3: So I got my first credit card, yeah, when I
- 0:28Speaker 3: was sophomore in.
- 0:30Speaker 2: Call made you feel important, didn't it.
- 0:32Speaker 3: Yeah, I had a two thousand dollars limit.
- 0:36Speaker 4: Were in a card? Look at you?
- 0:37Speaker 3: And you know my payment was only thirty dollars a month?
- 0:41Speaker 2: How about that? And you could just keep paying that forever?
- 0:44Speaker 3: And so I very quickly racked up a two thousand
- 0:48Speaker 3: dollars bill on that card. And I did not realize
- 0:51Speaker 3: four months that if I just paid thirty dollars.
- 0:55Speaker 5: It was never going to pay much forever.
- 1:00Speaker 1: That was a big, big lesson for interest on it
- 1:03Speaker 1: was probably like twenty Yeah.
- 1:05Speaker 3: And I just I just thought, oh, I have this
- 1:07Speaker 3: credit card and the payment's only thirty dollars.
- 1:10Speaker 5: That's no, no, you will.
- 1:11Speaker 3: Never pay it off if that if you only pay
- 1:14Speaker 3: the minimum.
- 1:15Speaker 1: I know another thing you weren't prepared for putting oil
- 1:18Speaker 1: in your card.
- 1:20Speaker 5: That was an expensive Yeah.
- 1:23Speaker 3: I had to go on to consumer credit counseling to
- 1:28Speaker 3: help me pay that card off. And what I learned
- 1:31Speaker 3: from that is you should pay your credit card. Use
- 1:35Speaker 3: a credit card, but pay it off every month.
- 1:37Speaker 1: Yeah, you know, you know what I learned from consumer
- 1:40Speaker 1: credit counseling the fifth time I went through it was
- 1:45Speaker 1: that lesson.
- 1:46Speaker 5: But it took me five took you five times?
- 1:48Speaker 2: I did it. I think I did it four times.
- 1:50Speaker 3: Credit cards are a They're a good thing to have,
- 1:53Speaker 3: but you've got to you have to treat it like
- 1:56Speaker 3: a debit card.
- 1:57Speaker 1: If you can pay more than always pay more than
- 2:00Speaker 1: the minimum. You can't pay the whole thing off. Pay
- 2:03Speaker 1: more than the minimum. Having to pay for my own
- 2:06Speaker 1: health care.
- 2:08Speaker 4: I thought insurance was there for that.
- 2:10Speaker 2: Well, nope, not so much.
- 2:12Speaker 4: Let's see, there's a text making enough money to pay
- 2:15Speaker 4: for my cost of living and then the process of
- 2:17Speaker 4: making the payments.
- 2:20Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, the whole cost.
- 2:21Speaker 4: Of living things.
- 2:23Speaker 3: You don't realize how expensive life is until you're paying
- 2:27Speaker 3: for all of it yourself.
- 2:28Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 2:29Speaker 1: Although I remember one day sitting there thinking, wait a minute,
- 2:32Speaker 1: I have a house, and I have cars and I have.
- 2:37Speaker 2: How did this happen?
- 2:38Speaker 4: Yeah, Texter, the endless cycle of trying to figure out
- 2:43Speaker 4: what's for dinner every night?
- 2:44Speaker 2: Yeah that makes sense.
- 2:47Speaker 4: Oh, here's one settling the estate of a dead parent.
- 2:51Speaker 3: Even if they have prepared things for you, which which
- 2:55Speaker 3: everybody should, it could it can be.
- 2:57Speaker 5: A real hals All right, let's go to Jason.
- 3:00Speaker 1: Hello, Jason, Hi, Jason, where are you calling from Saratoga Spring?
- 3:05Speaker 2: Okay?
- 3:06Speaker 1: What what did you Yeah, You're welcome. What did you
- 3:10Speaker 1: realize as an adult?
- 3:13Speaker 6: Well?
- 3:13Speaker 1: I suck at that text.
- 3:14Speaker 6: It's the endless cityle of trying to figure out what's
- 3:17Speaker 6: for dinner for the kids. It never stops.
- 3:19Speaker 3: Yeah, they have to eat every day.
- 3:22Speaker 2: It's every you know, do do what I do.
- 3:26Speaker 1: It's for just you know't have for one week, it's
- 3:30Speaker 1: hot dogs every night, the next week, it's macaroni and
- 3:33Speaker 1: cheese every night, then the next you know, and then
- 3:36Speaker 1: just rotate those things.
- 3:39Speaker 6: I feel like we're stuck in the month of chicken
- 3:41Speaker 6: nuggets right now.
- 3:42Speaker 4: Now there you go months. Let's go to Jenna, Hi, Jenna, Hello.
- 3:51Speaker 6: I was unprepared for living with.
- 3:55Speaker 4: My boyfriend for the first time when I.
- 3:57Speaker 2: Was eighteen, that wasn't what you expect.
- 4:03Speaker 3: It was.
- 4:03Speaker 4: You know, some parts of it were fine, Like I
- 4:06Speaker 4: think just the idea that like, oh.
- 4:08Speaker 6: We're both in love and we're both adults, everything will
- 4:11Speaker 6: work out is very misleading.
- 4:13Speaker 5: Yeah we're TV.
- 4:17Speaker 4: TV lied to me.
- 4:20Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 4:21Speaker 2: Thanks, you made it though, Jenna.
- 4:25Speaker 4: Here's a here's a text that's a good one, a
- 4:27Speaker 4: bit lighthearted but very real. Waking up and being on
- 4:30Speaker 4: time by myself for work, doctor, appointment, meeting, whatever.
- 4:34Speaker 3: Nobody, Mom, I'm not saying you gotta get up, time
- 4:37Speaker 3: to get up.
- 4:37Speaker 4: I'm not being there to roust you out of bed.
- 4:41Speaker 4: People are echoing the dinner for for every night.
- 4:44Speaker 2: Oh you know.
- 4:44Speaker 1: It's at some point as an adult you realize, wait
- 4:48Speaker 1: a minute, I have to plan for the future. I
- 4:52Speaker 1: can't just take it as it comes every day.
- 4:56Speaker 3: Bill, there are plenty of adults that that don't ever
- 4:59Speaker 3: have that fun.
- 5:00Speaker 2: I know, but exactly, and I'm not real good at it.
- 5:04Speaker 1: Well, it's a simple what as you suddenly realized you're
- 5:09Speaker 1: a grown up?
- 5:10Speaker 2: What were you? What were you not prepared for?
- 5:13Speaker 1: Or maybe this thing made you realize, oh wait a minute,
- 5:16Speaker 1: I'm a grown up now.
- 5:18Speaker 2: Got a bunch of calls here, let's go to candas high.
- 5:20Speaker 1: Candas, where are you calling from? Lake?
- 5:24Speaker 2: Okay? What what? Weren't you prepared for.
- 5:29Speaker 3: Politics?
- 5:31Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 5:32Speaker 5: Just generally?
- 5:34Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean I was assured that it was supposed
- 5:36Speaker 1: to be easy and pouring, and nobody talked about it,
- 5:39Speaker 1: at least when I was little.
- 5:41Speaker 4: Well, it used to be there, used to be quiet. There,
- 5:45Speaker 4: used to be quiet competence, you know.
- 5:49Speaker 2: All right, or thing or everybody hid things better.
- 5:52Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I just some some you started what I
- 5:57Speaker 1: think what you're saying, though, is is true once you realized,
- 6:02Speaker 1: wait a minute, I'm starting to pay attention to stuff
- 6:06Speaker 1: that's going on around me. I never used to. That
- 6:09Speaker 1: must mean I'm an adult. That must mean I'm a
- 6:11Speaker 1: grown up now.
- 6:13Speaker 2: Right, Yeah, you're living in a society. Yep, yep, all
- 6:16Speaker 2: right right, thanks Candice.
- 6:18Speaker 5: Okay, thank you.
- 6:19Speaker 4: Let's see Travis the Pyman says for me, it was
- 6:22Speaker 4: the actual cost of having a baby. All the baby furniture,
- 6:26Speaker 4: car seats.
- 6:27Speaker 5: There's way more stuff than you realize.
- 6:30Speaker 4: Applies that we needed before the kid even arrived. Five
- 6:34Speaker 4: grand for our portion of the C section and then, hey,
- 6:37Speaker 4: kids stop pooping every three hours? Do you know how expensive.
- 6:40Speaker 2: These diapers are diaper Genie. What what the hell do
- 6:43Speaker 2: I need a diaper? Genie?
- 6:44Speaker 5: Oh, you need a diaper, You need a diaper, Genie.
- 6:48Speaker 3: Let's see somebody says prepping for a colonoscopee.
- 6:52Speaker 5: The actual procedure is easy. The prep is you're a misery.
- 6:55Speaker 4: Yeah, all right, let's go to Oh it's u's doctor Mike.
- 7:00Speaker 2: Hey, doctor Mike, good morning. Yeah? What uh? What made
- 7:04Speaker 2: you realize you were an adult?
- 7:07Speaker 7: You know? What is this thing called a credit report?
- 7:09Speaker 7: And how do they know everything?
- 7:10Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 7:12Speaker 3: It goes back to my credit card that I ran
- 7:14Speaker 3: up and didn't Yeah, pay off properly?
- 7:17Speaker 2: What I have a credit score somewhere? What does it mean? Yeah?
- 7:23Speaker 2: All right, thank you, doctor Mike. Have a good one.
- 7:26Speaker 4: All right, thank you. Let's go to Brent. Hi, Brent,
- 7:32Speaker 4: good morning.
- 7:32Speaker 6: How are you all doing good? Brent?
- 7:34Speaker 2: Go ahead? Yeah? What what did you have to learn?
- 7:36Speaker 2: What was? What was it?
- 7:39Speaker 5: So?
- 7:39Speaker 6: My dad was no longer with us. We were living
- 7:41Speaker 6: in Vermont and my mom's like, hey, you're gonna find
- 7:44Speaker 6: your whole place. I'm selling the house and moving back
- 7:47Speaker 6: to Utah.
- 7:48Speaker 2: Wow.
- 7:49Speaker 5: How old were you?
- 7:52Speaker 6: I was seventeen in high school. Had to go get
- 7:55Speaker 6: a condo. I got condo on Sugar Bush and on
- 8:01Speaker 6: and I'm paying all my bills and now get my
- 8:04Speaker 6: own car insurance. I wouldn't have to go get a
- 8:07Speaker 6: reliable chart because I had to drive. You're going to
- 8:09Speaker 6: drive an hour to get anywhere.
- 8:10Speaker 2: Come on, that's.
- 8:12Speaker 3: Awful young to be asked to do those adult things.
- 8:15Speaker 3: I'm sorry you had to do that.
- 8:18Speaker 2: Yeah, it's Tim, Yeah, all at once. Yeah, thank you.
- 8:26Speaker 4: Here's a couple of couple of good texts. Uh, the
- 8:29Speaker 4: realization that your parents had no clue what they were
- 8:32Speaker 4: doing and they were.
- 8:33Speaker 2: Just winging it him.
- 8:36Speaker 4: And then this one on the other side of the spectrum,
- 8:39Speaker 4: buying cleaning supplies. I as a kid, I didn't have
- 8:44Speaker 4: to buy it, and now as an adult expensive cleaning
- 8:47Speaker 4: supplies are expensive.
- 8:49Speaker 5: And they're not a fun thing to spend money on.
- 8:51Speaker 1: That's where why I spent the probably five years of
- 8:54Speaker 1: my adult, first adult life, stealing cleanings applies. Tim the tree, Hey, Tim,
- 9:02Speaker 1: good morning.
- 9:02Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 9:04Speaker 7: So the hardest thing I had, well two things. You know,
- 9:08Speaker 7: somebody brought up the whole parenting thing. Learning to be
- 9:10Speaker 7: a parent isn't easy when you start too early. But
- 9:14Speaker 7: the other thing was just learning to behave, just learning
- 9:19Speaker 7: to stay out of trouble.
- 9:20Speaker 3: You still have a hard time with that, don't you, Tim?
- 9:23Speaker 7: Sometimes?
- 9:24Speaker 1: Yes, yeah, Well but you've done it well enough that
- 9:28Speaker 1: you've you've advanced to a ripe old age of something.
- 9:32Speaker 7: I'm fifty, so I've minted someone.
- 9:33Speaker 2: There you go, there you go? All right, Thanks Tim.
- 9:36Speaker 6: Thanks Tim, and to the rest of you.
- 9:38Speaker 4: Ye see, all right, let's go to Mike.
- 9:40Speaker 6: Hello, Mike, Hey, good morning. How's everyone good?
- 9:44Speaker 2: Where are you calling from?
- 9:47Speaker 7: Oh I'm on my way to work right now, and
- 9:48Speaker 7: I fifteen okay, pleasant day, a great day.
- 9:52Speaker 5: Good Hey.
- 9:53Speaker 4: I realized I was an adult when I started sounding
- 9:57Speaker 4: like my parents.
- 10:00Speaker 6: I realized they were right after all.
- 10:02Speaker 5: Wait a minute, they figured all.
- 10:04Speaker 2: This out, you know, you know I figured all this out. Yeah,
- 10:08Speaker 2: you know, I was kind of the opposite. I was.
- 10:10Speaker 1: Uh, I figured out I was an adult when I
- 10:15Speaker 1: did everything to knots sound like my parents. I you know,
- 10:21Speaker 1: they they did a lot of things that I said,
- 10:25Speaker 1: I will never do that.
- 10:27Speaker 2: I don't want to be that way.
- 10:28Speaker 4: Yeah, I said the same thing.
- 10:31Speaker 2: But I've done it all the way to go. All right, thanks,
- 10:35Speaker 2: I thank you?
- 10:37Speaker 6: All right?
- 10:37Speaker 4: Eight seven seven six two nine six nine six. Here's
- 10:41Speaker 4: a couple of text ones. I was prepared for the
- 10:44Speaker 4: hair on my head to turn gray, even my beard.
- 10:48Speaker 2: But what is this gray stuff?
- 10:50Speaker 5: Oh, it happens everywhere.
- 10:53Speaker 2: You mean, you're all white down there.
- 10:56Speaker 5: It happens everywhere.
- 10:57Speaker 2: It happens.
- 10:59Speaker 4: Uh, let's see, I wasn't prepared for how expensive a
- 11:02Speaker 4: divorce was.
- 11:03Speaker 3: Yeah, there are people that desperately want a divorce and
- 11:07Speaker 3: can't get it because they can't afford you get a divorce.
- 11:11Speaker 2: Yeah, why can't they afford it?
- 11:13Speaker 5: What do you mean?
- 11:14Speaker 2: Well, I mean, why can't they afford it?
- 11:15Speaker 5: It's it's what I'm.
- 11:19Speaker 2: Just wondering what the expenses are. Well, let's start with lawyers.
- 11:23Speaker 2: I didn't have it. I didn't have any lawyers, So
- 11:25Speaker 2: you can't relate that. Yeah, that's what I'm asking.
- 11:27Speaker 5: It's lawyers.
- 11:28Speaker 2: It's it's do you have to have lawyers?
- 11:30Speaker 3: Okay, you share a house, you got to divide up
- 11:32Speaker 3: the house.
- 11:33Speaker 5: If you have kids, there's the kids calimony.
- 11:36Speaker 2: Yeah, all that. I guess.
- 11:38Speaker 1: The unfortunate thing is is you can't sit down and
- 11:41Speaker 1: discuss it like rational people.
- 11:43Speaker 4: Sometimes you can, most of the times you can't. That's
- 11:47Speaker 4: why are our friend. Wade is always you to divorce now.
- 11:54Speaker 2: With an exclamation point.
- 11:57Speaker 4: Let's see, engaging in sexual activity always has strings attached.
- 12:01Speaker 2: Yeh, college.
- 12:04Speaker 4: I barely made it through high school and my parents
- 12:06Speaker 4: gave me the option of getting a job or going
- 12:08Speaker 4: to college. I was in remedial everything.
- 12:14Speaker 2: Let's see.
- 12:17Speaker 4: I hate our text program.
- 12:18Speaker 1: You know, in a way, that guy from Vermont, you know,
- 12:21Speaker 1: he was thrown into everything. But that's in a way
- 12:24Speaker 1: it was. That's a good thing he had to learn
- 12:27Speaker 1: on the spot.
- 12:29Speaker 5: That's too young to ask somebody.
- 12:32Speaker 2: There are people who are even younger that.
- 12:34Speaker 3: Have to do all of that, somebody says, taking care
- 12:37Speaker 3: of elderly parents, becoming a parent and navigating all this
- 12:41Speaker 3: stuff that goes.
- 12:42Speaker 4: Along with it, getting old and hurting all the time,
- 12:47Speaker 4: managing money and budgeting thinking I wanted for kids. Wait
- 12:54Speaker 4: a minute, now, I'm just a dog bomb. How often
- 12:58Speaker 4: I would.
- 12:58Speaker 2: Have to deal with car stuff?
- 13:00Speaker 4: Yeah, changing the oil, getting tires, putting gas in the car. Yeah,
- 13:06Speaker 4: not hard, but weird. But making as much, if not
- 13:09Speaker 4: more money than my parents did.
- 13:10Speaker 2: Yeah, that that's a weird one for me.
- 13:14Speaker 4: Let's see, realizing you only have so many number of
- 13:17Speaker 4: Christmases left.
- 13:19Speaker 2: Yea, hey, going a bit far. Yeah, come on, you
- 13:22Speaker 2: don't need to have any.
- 13:25Speaker 3: Somebody says, choosing to watch and listen to the news.
- 13:28Speaker 3: Remember when you were a kid and your parents are
- 13:30Speaker 3: watching the news and you're like, why are you You're
- 13:32Speaker 3: into it?
- 13:33Speaker 4: Yeah, and let's see, every time we save money, a
- 13:37Speaker 4: catastrophe happens. In the eighteen months, we had a septic
- 13:41Speaker 4: tank failure and for medical emergencies. It was very expensive
- 13:45Speaker 4: and the savings are all gone now. Home issues, water damage, dead.
- 13:52Speaker 2: Rats in the pool. Ye, gotta get a new roof
- 13:54Speaker 2: on that.
- 13:55Speaker 4: Leaking sink, bad plumbing, HVAC, yard drainage out.
- 14:01Speaker 2: Stop reminding me.
- 14:03Speaker 4: So why is washing and folding and putting the laundry
- 14:06Speaker 4: away so hard
