- 0:07Speaker 1: The Season with Peter Scheger is a production of the
- 0:09Speaker 1: NFL in partnership with iHeartRadio. What's Up, everybody, Welcome to
- 0:25Speaker 1: the season with Peter Schrager. We are in the thick
- 0:28Speaker 1: of it in the NFL preseason now. Every single team
- 0:31Speaker 1: has played and as we record this, there was a
- 0:34Speaker 1: flurry of action around the NFL yesterday and I want
- 0:38Speaker 1: to hit two of the key moves, the first one
- 0:41Speaker 1: being Dalvin Cook signing with the New York Jets.
- 0:44Speaker 2: I think everyone's immediate reaction.
- 0:46Speaker 1: Was like, oh, okay, wow, like they're there, and what's
- 0:48Speaker 1: that mean about breethol I can tell you this, Dalvin
- 0:51Speaker 1: Cook is going to be.
- 0:52Speaker 2: A part of a committee.
- 0:53Speaker 1: They're going to rotate who hands the ball, and they're
- 0:56Speaker 1: going to ride the hot hand when it's appropriate. Dalvin
- 0:58Speaker 1: Cook is a nice to have, not a need to have.
- 1:02Speaker 1: Speaking with my Jets sources over the last several weeks,
- 1:04Speaker 1: they were always very interested.
- 1:05Speaker 3: In Dalvin Cook.
- 1:05Speaker 1: In fact, they brought him to practice a couple Sundays
- 1:08Speaker 1: ago and it was the practice that I happened to
- 1:10Speaker 1: be at and they let him just walk freely. Basically,
- 1:13Speaker 1: everybody want be in the state in the building, on
- 1:15Speaker 1: the field talk to whoever. And he was there tapping
- 1:19Speaker 1: up the coaches and dapping up Rogers and Heyan Rodgers
- 1:21Speaker 1: spoke for a while, but my big takeaway was watching him.
- 1:24Speaker 1: He was basically chaperoned by Woody Johnson and Christopher Johnson.
- 1:28Speaker 2: Are the two owners of the team. I thought it
- 1:30Speaker 2: was interesting.
- 1:30Speaker 1: Because at the same time Dalvin Cook is talking with
- 1:34Speaker 1: the Dolphins and at the same time Dalvin Cook is
- 1:37Speaker 1: talking to the Broncos. These are AFC rivals, one of
- 1:40Speaker 1: them in the division, one of them in the AFC West,
- 1:42Speaker 1: and I'm wondering what in the heck is going on,
- 1:45Speaker 1: And I thought it was interesting. The Jets guys told
- 1:48Speaker 1: me they wanted Dalvin to get a feel for what's
- 1:51Speaker 1: going on here, that they are really confident in the
- 1:53Speaker 1: vibe and that there is a contagious factor to the
- 1:57Speaker 1: energy that this team has right now. And they thought,
- 2:00Speaker 1: if Dalvin's considering us and it's gonna be us for
- 2:02Speaker 1: his other teams, let him know what he could have
- 2:05Speaker 1: if he joins this school here. In the end, that
- 2:09Speaker 1: energy was unreal that day. That was the day that
- 2:11Speaker 1: Alan Lazard caught a touchdown in the back of the
- 2:13Speaker 1: end zone fans were there channing Aaron Rodgers and it
- 2:15Speaker 1: was that back to Football weekend with the NFL, and
- 2:18Speaker 1: the juice was electric and the numbers worked out. I
- 2:21Speaker 1: think eight point six million, But to be completely candid,
- 2:25Speaker 1: it's more than I expected him having as a max contract.
- 2:28Speaker 1: It's seven base and then he can make one point
- 2:30Speaker 1: six more.
- 2:31Speaker 3: I thought that this late in.
- 2:32Speaker 1: The game August fourteenth, there wasn't a long line of
- 2:34Speaker 1: suitors who were bidding for him, that maybe you would
- 2:37Speaker 1: have to take a discount. That is not a discount,
- 2:39Speaker 1: yes against nineteen ninety five, rationally speaking running back to
- 2:43Speaker 1: other positions maybe, but in twenty twenty three and August fifteenth,
- 2:47Speaker 1: to sign a deal for eight point six million dollars
- 2:49Speaker 1: of a running back when you're not necessarily the number
- 2:51Speaker 1: one guy, that's pretty good money.
- 2:53Speaker 2: So how is he going to be used?
- 2:55Speaker 1: I think Breas Hall is still still targeted for a
- 2:59Speaker 1: Week one and I think he and Breshall both are
- 3:01Speaker 1: going to get featured in a lot of ways. And
- 3:03Speaker 1: I still think Brishall might be the number one guy.
- 3:05Speaker 1: So Dalvin Cook Bristol, they love Michael Carter who's there.
- 3:09Speaker 1: They drafted a rookie at a pit. Is he he
- 3:11Speaker 1: can scoot Bam Knight was good for them last year.
- 3:14Speaker 1: This's a loaded running backs room. I don't think this
- 3:17Speaker 1: is okay Dalvin Cook thirty carries in a game go,
- 3:20Speaker 1: But I do think there's an opportunity for Dalvin Cook
- 3:23Speaker 1: to get ten to fifteen carries early on, maybe fifteen
- 3:26Speaker 1: to twenty carries going, and it does make the Jets
- 3:29Speaker 1: much better. I'm bringing in my wonderful producer and friend,
- 3:33Speaker 1: Aaron wang Kaufman from an objective standpoint, not a Jets
- 3:36Speaker 1: fan standpoint, but in your case, a Bills fan standpoint,
- 3:39Speaker 1: which might not be really objective at all, but you
- 3:41Speaker 1: know what I mean, not a fan of the team.
- 3:43Speaker 1: Does it feel like this is a oh that I
- 3:47Speaker 1: must have? Or does this feel like it's a guy
- 3:49Speaker 1: who's at the blackjack table and it's like got sixteen
- 3:51Speaker 1: and he's like, ah, why not, we're feeling good, let's hit.
- 3:54Speaker 4: It feels a lot like just a totally different mindset
- 3:59Speaker 4: for the Jets. And I think of it a lot
- 4:02Speaker 4: like Brady, you know where kind of Brady went to
- 4:05Speaker 4: the bucks and was like I want to win, Like,
- 4:07Speaker 4: get me the pieces and Rogers coming in and you
- 4:09Speaker 4: had the interview with him where he he was like,
- 4:11Speaker 4: I'm gonna take less money because I want to put
- 4:14Speaker 4: the best players around me. It feels it feels like
- 4:18Speaker 4: like an all Star team and it's scary, and like,
- 4:20Speaker 4: you know that doesn't Yeah, you mentioned i isy Abanacanda,
- 4:25Speaker 4: you mentioned Bam Knight, who I really like. Michael Carter's
- 4:28Speaker 4: still there.
- 4:28Speaker 5: Like they have a.
- 4:29Speaker 4: Lot of guys and it's not even mentioning Breeze Hall.
- 4:32Speaker 5: Yeah that's huge.
- 4:33Speaker 1: Yeah, they're loaded at running back. Their biggest issue is
- 4:35Speaker 1: going to be the offensive line. But that's so many
- 4:38Speaker 1: teams in the league, and every team's an injury away
- 4:41Speaker 1: from their line being a thing. Look, I know fans
- 4:43Speaker 1: have been getting on me since the Rodgers interview that
- 4:45Speaker 1: I've been you know.
- 4:46Speaker 3: Pro Jets, Like it's not because of that.
- 4:48Speaker 1: The Jets are really good this year. The Jets are
- 4:49Speaker 1: playoff team this year. Like, they are really good this
- 4:52Speaker 1: year and this makes them even better.
- 4:54Speaker 3: So that's the Jets side of it.
- 4:55Speaker 1: But a couple hours before that, Ezekiel Elliott signed with
- 4:59Speaker 1: the Patriots, and I like that signing too.
- 5:02Speaker 5: Six million dollars.
- 5:03Speaker 1: That is a bargain for a guy like Ezekiel Elliott
- 5:05Speaker 1: who was hurt last year.
- 5:07Speaker 3: And again similar situation.
- 5:09Speaker 1: What I was saying with Cook and Hall, this does
- 5:11Speaker 1: not mean ramondre Stevenson is not the number one guy.
- 5:13Speaker 1: They love ramondre Stevens, and I know people at that
- 5:15Speaker 1: building that are like, our offense is going to be
- 5:18Speaker 1: what we get out of Mac Jones in the passing game,
- 5:20Speaker 1: and it's gonna be based around ramondre Stevens. And you know,
- 5:23Speaker 1: add Ezekiel Elliott and now you've got two running backs,
- 5:26Speaker 1: you've got a solid offensive line, and they did add
- 5:28Speaker 1: some some strength that receiver. That's better than last year.
- 5:31Speaker 1: And Bill o'bryan's called the shots. So Patriots quietly adding
- 5:34Speaker 1: Ezekiel Elliott for six million dollars on August fifteenth.
- 5:37Speaker 2: I like that too.
- 5:38Speaker 1: And with that, as we record this podcast today, I
- 5:41Speaker 1: just got the note that Anthony Richardson is going to
- 5:43Speaker 1: be the starter in Indianapolis, which is really interesting considering
- 5:48Speaker 1: his age, his experience in college, not even close to
- 5:52Speaker 1: some of the other quarterbacks that were drafted in the
- 5:54Speaker 1: first round, and what he has around him not exactly
- 5:57Speaker 1: an elite wide receivers unit. And we don't know what's
- 6:00Speaker 1: up with Jonathan Taylor, so thrown him to the wolves
- 6:02Speaker 1: a little bit. But you know what we've learned time
- 6:05Speaker 1: and time again, sometimes he got a sink or swim.
- 6:07Speaker 1: They're going with that method and the Colts are going
- 6:09Speaker 1: to start. Anthony Richardson, who threw an ugly pick six
- 6:12Speaker 1: that looked really technically wrong over the weekend, but also
- 6:16Speaker 1: had a beautiful pass deep that was incomplete but was
- 6:20Speaker 1: everything was done right on his end. NFL News, it
- 6:23Speaker 1: is coming, it is going, It is all over the place,
- 6:25Speaker 1: is updates day to day, and we are in the
- 6:28Speaker 1: thick of it already. And yet today is a special
- 6:31Speaker 1: day for a friend of mine. Jared Freed is a
- 6:32Speaker 1: stand up comedian. He has been doing this for thirteen years.
- 6:37Speaker 3: He has been doing open mic nights for years.
- 6:39Speaker 1: He's been traveling the country for years, and this week
- 6:42Speaker 1: Jared's got a special coming to Netflix. This is a
- 6:45Speaker 1: major deal for a comedian, huge placement. We know the
- 6:48Speaker 1: reach of Netflix, and for any comedian to get this
- 6:51Speaker 1: opportunity is really cool deal. And I'm proud of Jared
- 6:53Speaker 1: who has been hacking away at it for years and
- 6:56Speaker 1: now this is his moment. So with no further ado,
- 7:00Speaker 1: a comedian with some football ties, you'll see what I mean.
- 7:03Speaker 3: Mister Jared Freed.
- 7:09Speaker 2: Our guest is a friend of mine.
- 7:11Speaker 1: But long before we got to know each other, I
- 7:13Speaker 1: was a big fan of his comedy and his work.
- 7:15Speaker 1: And he's got a special that is hitting Netflix today today,
- 7:20Speaker 1: a Netflix special it's called thirty seven and single. There
- 7:23Speaker 1: are football ties to our relationship. Let's bring in the
- 7:26Speaker 1: great Jared Free. Jared, what's up?
- 7:28Speaker 6: Man, shregs. Thank you so much. It is such a
- 7:32Speaker 6: pleasure to be here with you. It is like, uh,
- 7:37Speaker 6: it's amazing. Because I was saying to someone else, I
- 7:39Speaker 6: was like, I you rarely make an adult friend. Yes,
- 7:44Speaker 6: you know, And I feel like I can say it confident.
- 7:47Speaker 6: We've become friends and that, you know, that means a lot,
- 7:50Speaker 6: Like you know, you don't go on like like we
- 7:51Speaker 6: went and got dinner, and I was like, I don't
- 7:53Speaker 6: think I can remember a time that I had like
- 7:56Speaker 6: a first dinner friend date.
- 7:59Speaker 1: It's not common, it's not something that most men do.
- 8:02Speaker 1: But it was one of those deals where we had
- 8:04Speaker 1: been texting, we have been dming, we have been laughing
- 8:06Speaker 1: at each other stuff. I came on your podcast and
- 8:08Speaker 1: I'm like, we should go out in New York City
- 8:11Speaker 1: and then we just did.
- 8:12Speaker 3: We're like, let's just go do it. And that is
- 8:14Speaker 3: I'm secure in that I loved it.
- 8:16Speaker 5: I loved it. I loved every second of it.
- 8:18Speaker 6: It made me like mad at myself that I don't
- 8:20Speaker 6: do it more often. Just two guys gabbing about Jewish
- 8:25Speaker 6: summer camp and you know, and people we know in common,
- 8:30Speaker 6: like it really felt like and and you know, it's
- 8:33Speaker 6: funny if you go to a if you go to
- 8:34Speaker 6: a restaurant like I, I do a lot of like
- 8:36Speaker 6: a Loane eating. Not to make myself sound sad, the
- 8:39Speaker 6: name of the special is thirty seven and single. Yes,
- 8:42Speaker 6: this all sounds sad, but when you're at a dinner
- 8:45Speaker 6: place and you have your headphones in and you look
- 8:46Speaker 6: around a restaurant, it is all female friendships.
- 8:49Speaker 5: Yes, it is not one. There's very few times.
- 8:53Speaker 6: Where you see two dudes just talking fantasy football, talking,
- 8:58Speaker 6: you know, talking sharing the hot gossip like Choke, the
- 9:04Speaker 6: spinachen art We we base made out. You know, we
- 9:08Speaker 6: ate from the same spinning Gennarto Choke dip cauldron.
- 9:12Speaker 5: So that's you know, that's that's that's enough for me.
- 9:15Speaker 1: Well, I think at you're a stand up comedian, and
- 9:18Speaker 1: what I love is that we we I went on
- 9:20Speaker 1: your podcast. I'm like, I really like this guy's stuff,
- 9:22Speaker 1: and it was oddly similar to my world in the
- 9:26Speaker 1: broadcasting world, and that it's like.
- 9:27Speaker 3: Dogg eat dog.
- 9:28Speaker 2: You're doing your own thing.
- 9:30Speaker 1: But you said it, you're like politicians, comedians and broadcasters.
- 9:36Speaker 1: We are the three people that travel all over the
- 9:38Speaker 1: country and see the darkest regions.
- 9:40Speaker 3: Of the of this fine place.
- 9:43Speaker 5: We see the whole country.
- 9:44Speaker 6: That's a Michelle Wolf thing that I extended to broadcasters
- 9:48Speaker 6: because when we were sitting together.
- 9:50Speaker 5: I was like, oh, you know, it's Michelle O.
- 9:53Speaker 6: Wolf always said politicians and comedians see the whole are
- 9:56Speaker 6: the only people that see the whole country. And then
- 9:57Speaker 6: I was thinking of you, and I was like, you're
- 9:59Speaker 6: in that group too, like we see. You know, not
- 10:02Speaker 6: many people spend a weekend in Buffalo, even though we
- 10:05Speaker 6: know Buffalo from football world, Like you know, we know
- 10:08Speaker 6: Buffalo and Green Bay because they are famous from football.
- 10:12Speaker 6: They are not famous from city and then they had
- 10:15Speaker 6: a football team like it, So not many people And
- 10:19Speaker 6: again I've just turned off all of Buffalo. They're the
- 10:22Speaker 6: most sensitive town in the world. They're a bunch of babies.
- 10:26Speaker 2: I always a comedy town.
- 10:27Speaker 3: Do they come out it stinks?
- 10:31Speaker 5: Well they come out.
- 10:32Speaker 6: No, let me just say this, I don't none of
- 10:34Speaker 6: them will hear me beyond it stinks. I they are
- 10:38Speaker 6: just Buffalo needs you to love Buffalo?
- 10:41Speaker 5: Got it? Buffalo?
- 10:42Speaker 6: Kind of when you go on stage, it's like if
- 10:44Speaker 6: you don't say start your set by saying, let me hey, everybody,
- 10:49Speaker 6: I love it here, love.
- 10:50Speaker 5: The wings, love the wings.
- 10:52Speaker 6: You guys are great. Oh my god, you're you're the underdog.
- 10:55Speaker 6: Oh who couldn't cheer for the bills. If you don't
- 10:58Speaker 6: say that before you start your act, they won't let
- 11:00Speaker 6: you do your act.
- 11:02Speaker 5: It's just they're very sensitive.
- 11:04Speaker 6: And the worst type of sensitive people are the ones
- 11:07Speaker 6: that don't think they're sensitive.
- 11:09Speaker 5: You know you know so, and and there's only sensitive.
- 11:12Speaker 5: They're not sensitive aout material. You can talk about anything
- 11:15Speaker 5: you want.
- 11:16Speaker 6: You just better agree that Buffalo is a great place
- 11:20Speaker 6: to grow up and live and settle down.
- 11:22Speaker 5: Like that's it. That's all they want to hear.
- 11:25Speaker 1: We go through a wee good morning football, and it's
- 11:26Speaker 1: a lot of you don't respect our team.
- 11:28Speaker 3: You don't talk to our team. And it was a
- 11:30Speaker 3: Bills for a while.
- 11:31Speaker 1: Now we do, but like for years it was Bengals fans,
- 11:33Speaker 1: it's Lions fans. And it's because historically those teams haven't
- 11:36Speaker 1: been relevant towards the end of the season, but they
- 11:38Speaker 1: eternalize it.
- 11:39Speaker 3: And then it's like when we do talk about them,
- 11:41Speaker 3: we just get showered with loaf.
- 11:43Speaker 6: It's like, yeah, I mean, yes, they're the most passionate.
- 11:46Speaker 6: Those are all cold weather cities, those are all like
- 11:49Speaker 6: hard working cities that you know, Listen, I'm from outside
- 11:52Speaker 6: of Boston. I grew up outside of Boston. I nobody knows.
- 11:57Speaker 6: You think you're better than me, better than a Boston person.
- 12:00Speaker 5: Okay, nobody knows.
- 12:02Speaker 6: I mean, we were like seven championships in on on
- 12:06Speaker 6: this magical run and they were still going, they're not
- 12:09Speaker 6: talking about us. You know, they don't respect us. You know,
- 12:12Speaker 6: the Patriots way was all built on that kind of
- 12:16Speaker 6: you know, illusion that no one believes in the Patriots
- 12:20Speaker 6: and they're all looking over the Patriots. So I understand
- 12:23Speaker 6: that mentality perfectly well, but it is funny to like,
- 12:27Speaker 6: you know, now, as a Patriots fan of sorts. When
- 12:31Speaker 6: you go somewhere and you say, oh, I like the Patriots,
- 12:33Speaker 6: they think I started yesterday. People think that I like
- 12:36Speaker 6: jumped on the minute. You know, Tom Brady would had,
- 12:38Speaker 6: you know, a supermodel on his arm, and it's like,
- 12:40Speaker 6: that's not the case. I'm like you, I grew up
- 12:42Speaker 6: in an area where I like my team too.
- 12:45Speaker 1: You're like, I was there when Hugh Millen was the quarterback,
- 12:47Speaker 1: So back off. That's it, Jared. When you do the
- 12:51Speaker 1: comedy for a living, it's a lot of airports, it's
- 12:54Speaker 1: a lot of everyone thinks it's glamorous.
- 12:55Speaker 3: And but I think some of the stuff, the best
- 12:57Speaker 3: stuff you do is just.
- 12:58Speaker 1: Like Delta lounge humor and like getting into the Delta
- 13:02Speaker 1: lounge and you know when you're stuck at a connection
- 13:05Speaker 1: and you missed the gate and all that stuff. Like
- 13:07Speaker 1: That's why I'm enjoying your stuff the most. Your your
- 13:10Speaker 1: special thirty seven and single. But I think it's a
- 13:12Speaker 1: lot of like this is the ultimate compliment, but it's
- 13:14Speaker 1: a lot of like that Seinfeld style, like you ever
- 13:16Speaker 1: notice and right it hits it.
- 13:19Speaker 6: I appreciate it, you know, I take a lot of
- 13:22Speaker 6: pride in I'm just a normal dude, Like I like
- 13:25Speaker 6: my family, I go on dates.
- 13:29Speaker 5: You know, I don't have a sad tale to tell.
- 13:31Speaker 6: Some comedians are gonna come up and tell you their
- 13:34Speaker 6: tragedies and their upbringing.
- 13:36Speaker 5: I don't really have that to really talk about.
- 13:38Speaker 6: Like I, you know, grew up in a suburb outside
- 13:41Speaker 6: of a major city, you know, like.
- 13:43Speaker 5: During you know, nineteen nineties kid.
- 13:45Speaker 6: You know, so I'm I always consider myself the center
- 13:49Speaker 6: part of the bell curve, like I'm ten percent away
- 13:51Speaker 6: from the guy you're dating, your brother, your cousin, the
- 13:55Speaker 6: guy who dumped you, the guy you dumped, you know.
- 13:57Speaker 6: And when I talk about dating especially, that's kind of
- 14:00Speaker 6: why people have, like, you know, gotten involved with the
- 14:03Speaker 6: things I talk about because it's honest and it's fun
- 14:06Speaker 6: and it's light hearted and it's meant to connect with people.
- 14:08Speaker 5: I'm not looking to be.
- 14:09Speaker 6: Some special artists out there telling my jokes and you
- 14:14Speaker 6: know in an alley like I want the big crowds.
- 14:18Speaker 5: I want I want people to connect.
- 14:20Speaker 6: And like when I go talk about being in the
- 14:22Speaker 6: Delta Lounge and how I feel that there's too many
- 14:26Speaker 6: people in there and how there should be a tiered
- 14:30Speaker 6: you know, I just think the Delta lounge.
- 14:32Speaker 5: There needs to be levels.
- 14:34Speaker 6: There needs to be a pyramid, and the more miles
- 14:36Speaker 6: you have, the higher up on the pyramid you get
- 14:38Speaker 6: to go until there's one seat on the top.
- 14:40Speaker 5: That's a king's you know.
- 14:43Speaker 1: The one person who travels the most can have all
- 14:46Speaker 1: the free cottage, cheese and candle up they want.
- 14:48Speaker 5: That's right, and look down on everyone else. That's what
- 14:50Speaker 5: I want.
- 14:51Speaker 6: I want the ability to look down on lesser Delta
- 14:55Speaker 6: medallion you know, holding well, I'll tell you.
- 14:57Speaker 1: I was at LaGuardia, I guess it was LaGuardia a
- 15:00Speaker 1: few weeks ago, and there was a line twenty deep
- 15:03Speaker 1: to get into the Delta lounge, and that was frustrating.
- 15:05Speaker 3: I sat at the gate instead.
- 15:07Speaker 6: Horrific And you know, I remember they were everyone was
- 15:10Speaker 6: in one line. And then immediately I tweeted there should
- 15:14Speaker 6: be different lines for different tiers of Delta, and then
- 15:17Speaker 6: they did it.
- 15:18Speaker 5: They actually started doing a diamond There's a.
- 15:20Speaker 6: Diamond medallion lane that I strolled through and then I
- 15:24Speaker 6: cough on everyone in the other line. I just make
- 15:27Speaker 6: sure to cough on them, just to let them know
- 15:29Speaker 6: who's in charge, you know.
- 15:31Speaker 5: The little Guardia situation. I don't know what they're gonna do.
- 15:34Speaker 5: There better be another entrance that they're buildings.
- 15:37Speaker 3: It takes twelve miles to get to the to the gates.
- 15:40Speaker 6: What's going on you They must be building another entrance,
- 15:44Speaker 6: I hope to God because and this, this other entrance
- 15:48Speaker 6: must be a rine not to be believed, because to
- 15:52Speaker 6: not open it before as everything's going on. Because I've walked,
- 15:56Speaker 6: I have gotten back from like Albany, and it's taken
- 16:00Speaker 6: me longer to get from the gate to the uber
- 16:03Speaker 6: than it did to Albany itself.
- 16:04Speaker 3: It's crazy. They're doing construction. If you're not, this is
- 16:07Speaker 3: a very niche LaGuardia Airport tells it.
- 16:10Speaker 5: But I don't care.
- 16:12Speaker 3: They're doing They're doing construction. And they opened the new
- 16:15Speaker 3: gates and they're very luxurious.
- 16:17Speaker 1: There's like a Bubby's in one of them, and there's
- 16:19Speaker 1: right you know, there's high end stuff and you can
- 16:21Speaker 1: get dig in or you can have you know, whatever
- 16:24Speaker 1: it is. However, there's studing in construction on the outside,
- 16:27Speaker 1: so you have to walk underneath like a tunnel with
- 16:29Speaker 1: like wood like dangling from the walls, and it's forever.
- 16:32Speaker 3: It's a twenty minute walk.
- 16:34Speaker 5: Eight mile walk.
- 16:35Speaker 6: And if people are wondering, yes, thirty seven and Single
- 16:39Speaker 6: is about two minutes of dating material and then another
- 16:43Speaker 6: fifty eight minutes of LaGuardia Gate humor. So if anyone's wondering,
- 16:49Speaker 6: this is exactly what you're gonna get on the special.
- 16:52Speaker 1: The special is on Netflix and I watched it last night.
- 16:55Speaker 5: It's great.
- 16:55Speaker 1: It's an hour, it's awesome, and it just goes up
- 16:59Speaker 1: this week. And I'll tell you, you hit on something
- 17:02Speaker 1: that I kind of internalized and I felt bad about.
- 17:04Speaker 1: I've been married for for ten years now and I
- 17:07Speaker 1: was dating my wife for five years before that, so
- 17:10Speaker 1: I missed the whole online hinge, bumble tender, all that stuff,
- 17:15Speaker 1: and you hit on it. You're like, there's nothing worse
- 17:18Speaker 1: than the married guy who's like, let's take this for
- 17:20Speaker 1: a dabble and starts like almost condescendingly.
- 17:22Speaker 3: Like, oh, this is awesome. I would like, no, it's
- 17:25Speaker 3: not awesome. It sucks. I have done that to my
- 17:27Speaker 3: single friends.
- 17:28Speaker 1: And you caught me red handed where I'm like, let's
- 17:30Speaker 1: just see and I'm like, oh, this is crazy, and
- 17:33Speaker 1: it's like, yeah, it's my life, dude.
- 17:34Speaker 6: They want to play your married friends. Want to play
- 17:38Speaker 6: with Tinder, play with hinge as if it's your like,
- 17:42Speaker 6: you know, your poker game on your phone.
- 17:44Speaker 5: Oh, let me just try it. You know that actually
- 17:47Speaker 5: happened to me.
- 17:48Speaker 6: This is what you know, you know the beauty of
- 17:51Speaker 6: dating apps. Dating apps were created by male nerds who
- 17:54Speaker 6: didn't want to get turned down. There's very few instances
- 17:58Speaker 6: of getting turned down on an app.
- 17:59Speaker 5: What you do is you swipe.
- 18:01Speaker 6: You swipe left if you don't like them, and you
- 18:04Speaker 6: swipe right if you do like them, wipe right and
- 18:07Speaker 6: you get a match, you go, oh, they like me,
- 18:09Speaker 6: of course. If you swipe right and you get no
- 18:11Speaker 6: match right away, your first thought, strangely, is oh, they
- 18:16Speaker 6: they haven't seen me.
- 18:20Speaker 5: They'll get to me later. They'll get to me at
- 18:23Speaker 5: one point.
- 18:23Speaker 6: So it's a very cocky place to be on and
- 18:27Speaker 6: so very rarely do you get hit in the heart
- 18:30Speaker 6: and the way you did in the old days that
- 18:32Speaker 6: I did in the old days, where you go up
- 18:34Speaker 6: to a woman with a flower in your hand, you
- 18:37Speaker 6: go on a date with me. That happens very that
- 18:40Speaker 6: doesn't happen on it.
- 18:41Speaker 3: Can you not pick up a girl though?
- 18:43Speaker 2: Like in a like?
- 18:44Speaker 3: Does that not happen anymore. We just go up to
- 18:45Speaker 3: a girl, or is that weird?
- 18:47Speaker 6: You can do that, but my point is really that
- 18:50Speaker 6: you can't that on the dating app.
- 18:53Speaker 5: It's the reason it exists is to not have a
- 18:56Speaker 5: public interaction.
- 18:57Speaker 2: No rejection, no rejection ever.
- 19:00Speaker 6: The one time I felt rejected on a dating app,
- 19:02Speaker 6: there was a girl I matched with. I'll never forget it.
- 19:05Speaker 6: I'm swiping when you know, hinge whatever, I don't remember
- 19:08Speaker 6: the app. And there's this girl and she's cute, and
- 19:11Speaker 6: she's like my type and Jewish and Penn State. I
- 19:15Speaker 6: went to Penn State. So I'm like, wow, and we
- 19:18Speaker 6: have all these friends in common.
- 19:19Speaker 5: You can kind of like, you know, you go look
- 19:20Speaker 5: them up. Oh my god, I know.
- 19:22Speaker 6: And I'm like and I'm send a message, no response,
- 19:25Speaker 6: but you go, I guess they haven't seen me yet.
- 19:27Speaker 6: And like you know, a little time goes by and
- 19:31Speaker 6: I messaged my friend that we had in common. I'm like, hey,
- 19:33Speaker 6: because this is what happens on a dating app. You
- 19:35Speaker 6: get attached to something that doesn't exist. It's just a match.
- 19:38Speaker 6: It's very small. And I text my friend. I go, hey, man,
- 19:41Speaker 6: you know this person I match with him on a
- 19:44Speaker 6: dating app. What's the scoop is really what I was wondering,
- 19:47Speaker 6: he goes. A day later he texted me, he goes, hey, man,
- 19:50Speaker 6: she said her friend was playing with the.
- 19:53Speaker 5: App and that's why you.
- 19:54Speaker 6: Guys matched and it's gonna be and then she Randy
- 19:58Speaker 6: Jackson me. She was like, it's gonna be a no
- 20:00Speaker 6: from me, dog, and that was it.
- 20:04Speaker 3: So it's crazy.
- 20:05Speaker 6: It's crazy, but this is what happens when people go,
- 20:07Speaker 6: I want to play with the app, but it's like,
- 20:09Speaker 6: how about not? How about you let me you know,
- 20:11Speaker 6: how about you fix me up with someone you're thinking
- 20:13Speaker 6: of me for? Like, that's the thing. Married people they
- 20:16Speaker 6: have to understand. All their single friends do want to
- 20:19Speaker 6: be fixed up. They want to be fixed up thoughtfully,
- 20:22Speaker 6: because what they'll say married people, what they'll do is
- 20:25Speaker 6: they'll go.
- 20:25Speaker 5: Want to meet my friend, and then you have to
- 20:28Speaker 5: beg You go, can I see a picture?
- 20:30Speaker 6: You're like, and now it's like and then they look
- 20:33Speaker 6: at you when you go can I see a picture?
- 20:34Speaker 5: They're like, who do you think you are? You? Yeah? Yeah,
- 20:38Speaker 5: what do you think? Well? She's not good enough for you?
- 20:40Speaker 6: It's like, how about you give me all the information
- 20:43Speaker 6: I would get on a dating app, but also with
- 20:45Speaker 6: your thumbs up approval.
- 20:46Speaker 5: That's what people want. We want to know that these
- 20:48Speaker 5: aren't these crazies that are out there.
- 20:52Speaker 1: You hit on something in your podcast couple of weeks
- 20:53Speaker 1: ago because I listen to your podcast Jaytrain, which is
- 20:56Speaker 1: I Love, and you were like, sometimes you'll see like
- 20:59Speaker 1: the same women on the dating apps for years and
- 21:02Speaker 1: they're always there, and then one day they'll just not
- 21:04Speaker 1: be on and you're like, it they found someone.
- 21:07Speaker 6: A proud of them, but proud of them, good for them,
- 21:11Speaker 6: happy for them.
- 21:12Speaker 5: That's the thing. It's like about whatever happened to that
- 21:14Speaker 5: one Whatever.
- 21:16Speaker 6: You see people around the city that I've seen, I'm like,
- 21:18Speaker 6: how do I know them? Oh, I've been looking at
- 21:20Speaker 6: their picture for eighteen years on the dating app?
- 21:22Speaker 5: I will say it is.
- 21:25Speaker 6: You know, the thing about dating, it's a very personal
- 21:28Speaker 6: thing that's not personal, you know, like everyone's just trying
- 21:31Speaker 6: to get to where they feel comfy, cozy. It's not
- 21:34Speaker 6: like there's no hatred in it, even though it feels bad.
- 21:38Speaker 5: So it is.
- 21:39Speaker 6: I love talking about dating stuff because and especially from
- 21:42Speaker 6: a male point of view, because there's not a lot
- 21:44Speaker 6: of straight guys that are out there kind of like
- 21:46Speaker 6: talking about in an edible way. So it's really nice
- 21:49Speaker 6: to hear back from like women. You know that for
- 21:51Speaker 6: the podcast, most of my listeners are women, and they're like, yo, okay,
- 21:55Speaker 6: it's nice to hear that. It was like not that
- 21:57Speaker 6: big a deal as maybe I made it out to be,
- 22:00Speaker 6: you know. And it's stuff like that where you see
- 22:02Speaker 6: someone for years, you don't wish them bad, you don't
- 22:05Speaker 6: wish them you know, you're just like, oh, good, find someone.
- 22:08Speaker 1: It's interesting because you're here talking about dating advice very relevant,
- 22:12Speaker 1: you do the Bachelor reviews, and then you also have
- 22:15Speaker 1: this other gear where like you hang out at the
- 22:17Speaker 1: Comedy Seller and you're with David Tail and Jim Norton
- 22:20Speaker 1: and whoever else, and you hang with that crowd like
- 22:22Speaker 1: I feel like you can go with any group because
- 22:24Speaker 1: it's pretty relatable. But you also have this like you're
- 22:27Speaker 1: a comedians comedian piece to you too.
- 22:29Speaker 5: I appreciate that.
- 22:30Speaker 6: Yeah, you know, I've been doing stand up every night
- 22:33Speaker 6: for thirteen years.
- 22:34Speaker 4: You know.
- 22:34Speaker 5: That's why this special is so special to me.
- 22:36Speaker 6: It's like, you know, this is a validating thing to
- 22:39Speaker 6: be on Netflix and to have an hour on there,
- 22:43Speaker 6: you know, and like, you know, at the Seller, it
- 22:45Speaker 6: was always like you know, at the Seller, it's people
- 22:48Speaker 6: just ball busting all the comics, just making fun of
- 22:51Speaker 6: each other before you go on stage. And like, you know,
- 22:54Speaker 6: the thing I would get for was like Jared watches
- 22:57Speaker 6: The Bachelor and thinks he knows things about dating, you know,
- 22:59Speaker 6: and and it's funny to kind of like have that known.
- 23:03Speaker 6: But like also you go on the same lineups as
- 23:06Speaker 6: so many different comics, and especially like, you know, my peers,
- 23:09Speaker 6: the people that I came up with, like you know
- 23:12Speaker 6: that they're getting success in their own ways and their
- 23:15Speaker 6: own arenas. Like I was out last night or two
- 23:18Speaker 6: nights ago with Nimesh Patel, who's like blown up on TikTok,
- 23:22Speaker 6: and then Michael Chay.
- 23:23Speaker 5: Who's blown up you know SNL who doesn't know Michael
- 23:25Speaker 5: cha and.
- 23:26Speaker 6: It's like we met at open mics, you know, just
- 23:29Speaker 6: putting our name in a bucket, and it's like this
- 23:32Speaker 6: amazing thing that and again and also Michelle Wolf, who
- 23:36Speaker 6: like I opened for you know as a friend and
- 23:39Speaker 6: peer on the road before she taped her Netflix special.
- 23:42Speaker 6: So it's like it's it's really like nice and awesome
- 23:46Speaker 6: that We all kind of text back and forth and
- 23:47Speaker 6: figure out bits together. We all care about stand up,
- 23:50Speaker 6: and you know, the thing is about stand up.
- 23:53Speaker 5: It's the prize.
- 23:54Speaker 6: You get to do stand up if you do the
- 23:57Speaker 6: other work, if you go to the open mics, if
- 23:59Speaker 6: you write, if you do the Bachelor live scream. Not
- 24:02Speaker 6: to say I don't love doing Bachelor stuff in podcasts,
- 24:04Speaker 6: but those are all just servis getting people out to
- 24:08Speaker 6: shows to see.
- 24:09Speaker 5: The hour, to see it the work in progress.
- 24:12Speaker 6: Like you know what's cool for me is I tape
- 24:14Speaker 6: this special thirty seven and single in December. I paid
- 24:19Speaker 6: for it, I made it, I went to sell it,
- 24:22Speaker 6: and it took all this time to sell. And during
- 24:26Speaker 6: that time, what am I gonna do. I'm not gonna
- 24:28Speaker 6: sit back and relax. I'm gonna go back on stage
- 24:31Speaker 6: time to start again. You know That's why I new
- 24:33Speaker 6: material and new material. Yeah, the most humbling thing in
- 24:36Speaker 6: the world. That's why you don't you don't mean me.
- 24:39Speaker 6: You meet a stand up comic, they're they're they're gonna
- 24:42Speaker 6: be self deprecating because you humble yourself every night. You
- 24:45Speaker 6: fail every night if you're trying, if you're trying new material.
- 24:49Speaker 6: So since December, I've been working on a whole new hour.
- 24:51Speaker 6: So like the thing I'm most proud of, I'm proud
- 24:54Speaker 6: of the special, I'm proud that it's on Netflix, but
- 24:56Speaker 6: I've moved on mentally, I'm on the new hour. You
- 24:59Speaker 6: know what does Tom Brady say, what's his favorite championship?
- 25:02Speaker 6: The next one? That's my favorite special? So right now,
- 25:07Speaker 6: at the end of thirty seven in single, I did
- 25:09Speaker 6: like a little you know how, like in the Marvel movies,
- 25:11Speaker 6: you saw little teas at the Marvel movies and the
- 25:15Speaker 6: credits they do a little post credit scene. I did
- 25:18Speaker 6: a post credit scene during the credits of my Parents,
- 25:20Speaker 6: like giving me. So the whole next hour that I'm
- 25:24Speaker 6: doing on the road right now, I'm doing, you know,
- 25:27Speaker 6: all new material from the special. So if you watch
- 25:29Speaker 6: a special and you want to come to a live show,
- 25:31Speaker 6: it's all brand new. And it's all about going on
- 25:34Speaker 6: vacation with my parents and what that's like and what
- 25:38Speaker 6: that feels like in the weirdness of that and the
- 25:41Speaker 6: weird and you know this, like you know how, some
- 25:44Speaker 6: families just have that financial tie together that we never had.
- 25:49Speaker 6: No other generation shared something like the family plan, the
- 25:53Speaker 6: way we do with our generation, Like, you know, like
- 25:56Speaker 6: no other generation called their parents the minute they landed
- 26:00Speaker 6: somewhere at thirty eight, like I'm calling saying.
- 26:03Speaker 5: Landed, texting landed.
- 26:07Speaker 6: I did that joke on the Tonight Show, and people
- 26:09Speaker 6: every time I go to Boca. My parents live in Boca,
- 26:11Speaker 6: of course they do the landed landed. Every Jewish mother landed.
- 26:18Speaker 6: I saw landed, and it's because their kids do it too.
- 26:21Speaker 6: So that's kind of the things I'm talking about for
- 26:23Speaker 6: the next special. So it again because I love stand
- 26:27Speaker 6: up and like, you know this, you're such like a
- 26:30Speaker 6: stand up supporter, and that's you know how we connected.
- 26:33Speaker 5: You knew, you know.
- 26:34Speaker 6: I was like, we know when someone loves stand up
- 26:36Speaker 6: and loves the comedy world. So when we first met
- 26:39Speaker 6: and started talking, I was like, oh, this guy knows it.
- 26:42Speaker 6: And it's like not many people do, you know, Like
- 26:45Speaker 6: this is a this is a more niche thing than
- 26:48Speaker 6: people want to believe.
- 26:49Speaker 5: Because you and I we.
- 26:51Speaker 6: Know football, we love football, but like we also know
- 26:54Speaker 6: the bravado of football. Dudes, every football fan wants to
- 26:58Speaker 6: believe they know funny, they know the comedians, they know
- 27:01Speaker 6: the guy. I get that because that you know, I
- 27:04Speaker 6: do shows where the women who follow me, they'll come
- 27:06Speaker 6: to the show and they'll bring the boyfriend.
- 27:07Speaker 5: The boyfriend be like, oh man, that was pretty good.
- 27:10Speaker 5: I haven't heard of you, I you know.
- 27:11Speaker 6: And then they name my friends to me to tell
- 27:14Speaker 6: me how much they know, and it's like, you know,
- 27:16Speaker 6: it's so it is just this like smaller world than
- 27:20Speaker 6: anyone would believe, and it's really nice that like when
- 27:23Speaker 6: people come to shows and appreciate it and like know
- 27:26Speaker 6: the world a little bit.
- 27:27Speaker 1: Well, I can only imagine the boyfriend's initial re actually
- 27:29Speaker 1: doesn't know you, And it's like the girlfriend's like, I
- 27:33Speaker 1: love this guy's reviews of the Batcher, why don't you
- 27:35Speaker 1: come to see him? Do like I'm gonna watch some
- 27:36Speaker 1: other man entertain my wife. Like but then it's you
- 27:40Speaker 1: realize that your stuff is awesome.
- 27:42Speaker 6: And it's first they think I'm pandering to their girlfriend,
- 27:46Speaker 6: which isn't the case, and they realize very quickly that's
- 27:49Speaker 6: not what I'm doing and what it will.
- 27:51Speaker 5: Also, I had one instance I'll never forget.
- 27:54Speaker 6: I'm in Nashville, I'm on stage, and I give dating advice,
- 27:58Speaker 6: but like from my own perspective, I talk about dating
- 28:00Speaker 6: on a podcast, and you know, and so this guy
- 28:04Speaker 6: in the front is just miserable the whole time, and
- 28:06Speaker 6: I say, and he's with his girlfriend.
- 28:08Speaker 5: I go, I go, hey, man, what's the deal. What
- 28:11Speaker 5: you know? You look like you ate a sandwich? What's happening?
- 28:15Speaker 6: And he like level with me, like I can't break you,
- 28:17Speaker 6: and he goes, I don't know, man, you just every
- 28:20Speaker 6: time we get in a fight, my girlfriend I she's always,
- 28:23Speaker 6: like Jared says, and you're like her teammate in our arguments.
- 28:29Speaker 6: And I was like, that's funny. I didn't think of
- 28:32Speaker 6: it that way. And then I'll never forget. It was
- 28:34Speaker 6: like a month later, I'm in an argument with my
- 28:38Speaker 6: own girlfriend at the time and she literally amd argument.
- 28:41Speaker 5: She goes, well, you said on the podcast. I was like,
- 28:44Speaker 5: don't listen to me.
- 28:46Speaker 6: Yeah, And I was like I never felt more connected
- 28:49Speaker 6: to someone who hated me in my entire life.
- 28:57Speaker 1: All Right, So you mentioned you're a Patriots fan, and
- 28:59Speaker 1: that's not usually we have on guests, and it's like, sure,
- 29:02Speaker 1: all right, this is a comedian, this is a celebrity,
- 29:04Speaker 1: and they love this team and that's the football tie.
- 29:07Speaker 1: Yours goes much deeper than that. You're wearing a Bears hat.
- 29:10Speaker 1: Can you explain Jared Freed's connection to the Chicago Bears.
- 29:15Speaker 6: Well, I've so I'm a paint now I'm less of
- 29:19Speaker 6: a Patriots fan. And this sounds bad to any like
- 29:22Speaker 6: football fan. They're like, what in the world my brother is?
- 29:26Speaker 6: I don't know what to call I guess I would
- 29:28Speaker 6: call him a coach for the Chicago Bears. He works,
- 29:31Speaker 6: he's on the Bears staff. I don't want to speak
- 29:33Speaker 6: out of turn.
- 29:36Speaker 5: The meat, right.
- 29:37Speaker 6: I don't know where he stands on the float chart,
- 29:40Speaker 6: but he is. He's worked in the league. He worked
- 29:43Speaker 6: at the league office, and then he went to Miami
- 29:44Speaker 6: and now he's with the Bears. And you know, I
- 29:47Speaker 6: I follow him where he goes. I got skin in
- 29:50Speaker 6: the game, so to speak.
- 29:51Speaker 5: You know, like I cheer for the Bears like they're
- 29:54Speaker 5: my high school team.
- 29:55Speaker 6: Now you know, it's family, you know, as my family
- 29:58Speaker 6: always said, when you're here, your family.
- 30:00Speaker 5: That was our saying growing up. So yeah, so like my.
- 30:05Speaker 3: That's a good one. Like the six also, yeah it's good.
- 30:08Speaker 5: Yeah yeah.
- 30:09Speaker 6: So I I so it's been this weird thing because
- 30:13Speaker 6: I feel emotionally connected to football in a way that
- 30:16Speaker 6: I felt it before, like you grew up a Patriots fan.
- 30:20Speaker 6: But now it's like I'm cheering for play like you know,
- 30:24Speaker 6: justin fields, like I'm cheering for him, like he's my brother,
- 30:27Speaker 6: because my brother's you know, in the booth and you know,
- 30:30Speaker 6: now you know his fiance she was you know, they
- 30:34Speaker 6: met in Miami and she's she's in your industry.
- 30:36Speaker 5: She's a broadcaster too.
- 30:38Speaker 6: She was on the NBC station in Miami and now
- 30:40Speaker 6: she's moved to Chicago. Now we're all wearing you know,
- 30:43Speaker 6: bear down. We're all wearing the you know, the blue
- 30:45Speaker 6: and orange, so to speak. I don't even know if
- 30:47Speaker 6: that's what they say.
- 30:48Speaker 3: I don't even I think they do say bear down.
- 30:50Speaker 1: I'm curious, like, is it known that his brother's a
- 30:55Speaker 1: very famous stand up comedian.
- 30:57Speaker 3: Or is that something he keeps quiet in NFL circles?
- 30:59Speaker 5: You know, people people.
- 31:01Speaker 6: Know he's you know, I've had people come out to
- 31:02Speaker 6: shows because they know my brother, and like you know,
- 31:05Speaker 6: they've can on me or vice avert, you know, it
- 31:09Speaker 6: comes up and then like you know, also they're just
- 31:12Speaker 6: comedy fans and they'll bring up a name, and Harry's
- 31:14Speaker 6: met all these people, like my brother was like with
- 31:16Speaker 6: me in open mics, Like my brother was.
- 31:18Speaker 5: Like, you know, he was sleeping.
- 31:20Speaker 6: I mean, I don't think that I'm not speaking out
- 31:22Speaker 6: of turn. He was sleeping on my couch telling me
- 31:28Speaker 6: that he wants to be in the NFL. One day
- 31:31Speaker 6: and it was like and he's getting his MBA and
- 31:35Speaker 6: he's and I'm like, and I remember he was like
- 31:37Speaker 6: a few months into my couch and I'm living in
- 31:40Speaker 6: this like tiny New York City apartment.
- 31:42Speaker 5: And there was a point where it's.
- 31:44Speaker 6: Like he's and he's just trying to figure out his
- 31:47Speaker 6: way and I'll never forget and I'm going to open mics.
- 31:50Speaker 5: Well he's going and trying.
- 31:51Speaker 6: To knock on doors and sending a resume resumes and
- 31:55Speaker 6: it's just not working out for either of us to
- 31:58Speaker 6: be in such close quarters. And I'll never forget it.
- 32:01Speaker 6: There was one day where I like I kicked him out.
- 32:04Speaker 6: I was like, listen, there's too many dreams in this apartment.
- 32:10Speaker 5: You gotta get out of here.
- 32:12Speaker 6: And you know, in his own version, you know, we're
- 32:16Speaker 6: all the star of our own movie. You know, he
- 32:18Speaker 6: goes off and he goes on his odyssey, and I
- 32:22Speaker 6: continue my own odyssey and you know, we're both each
- 32:26Speaker 6: other's like biggest fans and supporters, like and we get
- 32:29Speaker 6: you know, we were there for each other so much
- 32:31Speaker 6: and like talking each other through kind of the tough
- 32:35Speaker 6: emotional times of trying to do something that no one
- 32:39Speaker 6: can understand. You know, like that, you know this isn't
- 32:43Speaker 6: this isn't the lawyer path, the finance path, the doctor path.
- 32:47Speaker 5: You know this. You know I writing You're you know this.
- 32:52Speaker 6: You know intimately you're writing blog posts and you know.
- 32:55Speaker 6: And people say to you, you go home for Rosha
- 32:57Speaker 6: Shanna and they're like, what are you doing?
- 33:00Speaker 5: You say, you do what? Well?
- 33:02Speaker 6: You got to meet I remember I went home to
- 33:04Speaker 6: my grandmother's shiva call.
- 33:07Speaker 5: Now we'll get real juwey. I'm at my.
- 33:09Speaker 6: Grandmother's shiva call and people try to help you, but
- 33:12Speaker 6: it's almost demeaning.
- 33:14Speaker 5: I remember this.
- 33:15Speaker 6: One woman was like, you should talk to my friend.
- 33:17Speaker 6: They work at SNL. And I was like, and you
- 33:20Speaker 6: have to say yes to everything. And I remember I
- 33:22Speaker 6: get on the phone with this. She goes, I'll put
- 33:24Speaker 6: you on the phone with their mom. I was like, no, no,
- 33:29Speaker 6: and then she holds I'm at my grandmother's shiva call.
- 33:31Speaker 6: My grandmother just died days before. The body's still warm.
- 33:35Speaker 6: She holds this woman holds up her phone to me,
- 33:38Speaker 6: and it's another woman and and she's going hello, and
- 33:41Speaker 6: I go, Hi, I want to be a writer on
- 33:45Speaker 6: SNL right right, Like what do I say?
- 33:47Speaker 5: And then I remember the woman She goes.
- 33:49Speaker 6: Well, my daughter went to Harvard and worked for the
- 33:55Speaker 6: Harvard Lampoon.
- 33:57Speaker 5: Have you looked into that? And I was like, thank
- 34:00Speaker 5: you very much, good to meet you.
- 34:04Speaker 6: Hung up as soon as I could, and I was like,
- 34:06Speaker 6: you know, and so that happens so much these enraging
- 34:10Speaker 6: when someone's really there, really coming from the best place,
- 34:14Speaker 6: and you can't say anything bad. You want to like
- 34:18Speaker 6: scream from within. And I know you know that, and
- 34:21Speaker 6: it was nice kind you know. Over the years, it's
- 34:24Speaker 6: been really nice to have my brother going through his
- 34:27Speaker 6: own thing, which is totally different than comedy, but a
- 34:29Speaker 6: lot the same, just like you're similar in how different
- 34:33Speaker 6: it is from everything else. And you know, now I
- 34:36Speaker 6: go to a Bears, I'm going to opening week. I'm
- 34:38Speaker 6: going to Packers Bears. Of course I want to see
- 34:42Speaker 6: I go sit in the family section. I'm screaming at
- 34:45Speaker 6: the team. You know, I remember one one time. I
- 34:47Speaker 6: was like and then I like to you know, I
- 34:50Speaker 6: get drunk. I have a bunch of beers and Vodkas,
- 34:53Speaker 6: and then I like, I remember I was at the
- 34:55Speaker 6: Miami game once and I and I realized I was
- 34:57Speaker 6: sitting behind the offensive coordinator's dad.
- 35:00Speaker 5: Like you start to realize who you're sitting around.
- 35:02Speaker 3: Now you're questioning the calls.
- 35:04Speaker 6: And well, then I did it by I did it
- 35:06Speaker 6: as a joke, like I'm a little drunk, I'm like,
- 35:08Speaker 6: I gotta put this guy. I go, every player go,
- 35:11Speaker 6: who is calling these plays?
- 35:14Speaker 5: And you just see the dad like kind of turn around.
- 35:17Speaker 6: And then when he finally got mad enough to turn
- 35:19Speaker 6: around fully, I just made eye contract and I started
- 35:22Speaker 6: like grab.
- 35:22Speaker 5: His shoulder and start yeah, and he starts laughing.
- 35:26Speaker 6: You know, It's like it's like that where it's like
- 35:28Speaker 6: I get to be his fan and I get to
- 35:30Speaker 6: sit in the back. But you know, and also like
- 35:33Speaker 6: when you have a coach as a brother, my brother
- 35:36Speaker 6: did me the biggest favor.
- 35:38Speaker 5: In the world.
- 35:39Speaker 6: He he went he would come to my shows and
- 35:42Speaker 6: I remember I'd come off stage, and criticism is very
- 35:48Speaker 6: difficult to take.
- 35:50Speaker 5: I think it's very hard to give you have to
- 35:52Speaker 5: be constructive.
- 35:53Speaker 6: You have to see where the person is trying to
- 35:55Speaker 6: go and how they're trying to You have to be
- 35:58Speaker 6: And I came off stage and he would go, I
- 36:00Speaker 6: got like ten notes and it would be like and
- 36:04Speaker 6: in the notes it would be like, loved this. Energy
- 36:07Speaker 6: good this and energy they are good. You were a
- 36:10Speaker 6: little fast on that. I didn't get what you were saying.
- 36:12Speaker 6: It was like this like and I was like, the
- 36:14Speaker 6: way he gave it to me, I was like, this
- 36:16Speaker 6: is so valuable.
- 36:17Speaker 5: It was so helped.
- 36:17Speaker 1: He's a professional coach, and you know, it's amazing.
- 36:21Speaker 3: That's how he talks to players.
- 36:22Speaker 6: You guys don't have that, right, No, no, none of
- 36:25Speaker 6: us have that. And I and then I remember Michelle
- 36:28Speaker 6: Wolf and I are friends, and it was a big
- 36:31Speaker 6: opportunity to open for Michelle.
- 36:32Speaker 5: She had just done the White House Correspondence.
- 36:34Speaker 2: I was after the White House Correspondence. Yeah, that's huge.
- 36:36Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 36:36Speaker 6: And I go and start opening for her, and I
- 36:38Speaker 6: remember she came off stage and I was like, well,
- 36:40Speaker 6: I like it.
- 36:41Speaker 5: When it's done for me, I'm sure she'll like it and.
- 36:45Speaker 6: Loved it lovely, Like no one likes writing more than Michelle.
- 36:49Speaker 6: So and we really connected over that, and you know
- 36:54Speaker 6: that was us becoming closer friends and creating a bond
- 36:56Speaker 6: over comedy, and like, you know, and I would I
- 36:59Speaker 6: don't wouldn't have known how to do that or to.
- 37:02Speaker 5: Do that without my brother. So it's like it all translates.
- 37:06Speaker 1: So for me, like when I was growing up, it
- 37:08Speaker 1: was you know, like, wow, look at Dick Shap what
- 37:11Speaker 1: he gets to do. Look at Roy Firestone interviewing people,
- 37:14Speaker 1: or oh my god, a Madrashott is on the court
- 37:16Speaker 1: interviewing players.
- 37:17Speaker 2: Can you imagine?
- 37:18Speaker 3: Who were those guys for.
- 37:19Speaker 2: You in comedy?
- 37:20Speaker 1: And was that really a thing with you in comedy?
- 37:22Speaker 1: Were you one of these snl nerds who would sit
- 37:23Speaker 1: home and watch the tape of Wayne's World over and
- 37:25Speaker 1: over again, or like, was this something where you came
- 37:27Speaker 1: at it from a different angle and it wasn't like
- 37:29Speaker 1: you worshiped comedy as a kid.
- 37:31Speaker 6: Never never liked the big comedy nerd. I liked making
- 37:36Speaker 6: my friends laugh. I liked writing on email to my
- 37:39Speaker 6: group of friends and ball busting.
- 37:42Speaker 2: And having the message board.
- 37:44Speaker 6: Oh absolutely, Then when having one person go off email
- 37:47Speaker 6: to email, you individually to be like, oh my god,
- 37:50Speaker 6: I'm dying at my desk. That's the that would get
- 37:53Speaker 6: me off. And then the one special I really loved,
- 37:57Speaker 6: and it was on a thousand times, and I would say,
- 38:00Speaker 6: I I emulate this comic.
- 38:03Speaker 1: Oh, Kevin James was saying premium Blend go which one.
- 38:08Speaker 5: No, Kevin James sweat the small stuff.
- 38:10Speaker 6: It's on YouTube. It's still most of the bits still
- 38:13Speaker 6: work today. I've never gotten to meet him. But like
- 38:16Speaker 6: his physicality, his you know, his bigness, his his.
- 38:20Speaker 5: Light on his feet. You know, I really love that.
- 38:23Speaker 6: And also the relatability of like I just could feel
- 38:27Speaker 6: everything he was talking about. So that was the one
- 38:29Speaker 6: special I watched a thousand times, but never I was
- 38:32Speaker 6: never that guy who was like George Carlin I hugged
- 38:34Speaker 6: his book.
- 38:35Speaker 5: You know I didn't do that.
- 38:36Speaker 1: Yeah, all right, So this thing hits Netflix take us
- 38:41Speaker 1: really brievous. So you said, thirteen years of doing stand
- 38:45Speaker 1: up comedy, and then like this is not to make
- 38:48Speaker 1: it overally dramatic, this is the biggest moment so far
- 38:50Speaker 1: for the career.
- 38:51Speaker 3: Is this Like what that means?
- 38:52Speaker 1: I don't know the significance of a Netflix special, knowing
- 38:56Speaker 1: what it's done for so many others.
- 38:57Speaker 3: But like, is this this could be your moment.
- 39:00Speaker 6: It's hard to explain because it came out at three
- 39:02Speaker 6: thirty three in the morning.
- 39:04Speaker 5: I woke up to like some very nice messages.
- 39:07Speaker 6: I hope it just you know, brings more people to
- 39:10Speaker 6: what I do, you know, like and it is the
- 39:12Speaker 6: biggest moment of my life. It is like the platform
- 39:17Speaker 6: is just so big and I want like, you know,
- 39:20Speaker 6: you've seen what it's done for other people. I have
- 39:22Speaker 6: some friends that like have had Netflix specials and it's
- 39:25Speaker 6: made it so they could tour. Like I just want
- 39:27Speaker 6: to be able to go and do great shows. And
- 39:30Speaker 6: it's it's really as simple and hokey and cheesy as that.
- 39:33Speaker 6: Like again, the prize is doing stand up. I get
- 39:37Speaker 6: to do it. I get to travel the country. I
- 39:39Speaker 6: love putting together the bits and like it. It really
- 39:44Speaker 6: does sound cheesy, but this is like if I can
- 39:47Speaker 6: just and if I can make a living doing that,
- 39:49Speaker 6: Like who you know, as as the hardballs would say,
- 39:53Speaker 6: who has it better than us? You know, like it's
- 39:56Speaker 6: uh so, I I just and when people connect with
- 39:59Speaker 6: what I'm saying and they come up to me with
- 40:02Speaker 6: their you know, with their families or their boyfriend or girlfriend,
- 40:05Speaker 6: whatever it might be, and be like, wow, we just
- 40:07Speaker 6: died laughing, like it's.
- 40:09Speaker 5: That's the greatest pleasure.
- 40:11Speaker 6: You know, Like if someone says to me like I
- 40:14Speaker 6: literally peed my pants, I'm like, that is like all
- 40:17Speaker 6: I I can ask for.
- 40:18Speaker 1: You know, thirty seven in single is the special? You
- 40:22Speaker 1: obviously are thirty seven in single. Uh, I'm not gonna
- 40:25Speaker 1: give it away, but you're opening bit on just you're
- 40:28Speaker 1: on these apps so often that sometimes eventually you start
- 40:31Speaker 1: just dismissing women because of their names.
- 40:33Speaker 6: And it's like you don't even look at their pictures,
- 40:35Speaker 6: just don't want to with that name with women men
- 40:40Speaker 6: that and that's like the most relatable thing. It doesn't
- 40:42Speaker 6: matter who you are, you get bogged down. And that's
- 40:46Speaker 6: like the thing about it that I really like connect
- 40:48Speaker 6: with people on like you know, and sometimes marry people
- 40:52Speaker 6: don't understand. It's like I don't think I'm anybody. I
- 40:55Speaker 6: don't think I deserve anything. You know, you're just going, oh,
- 40:59Speaker 6: I'm tired. I want to be I think, like I've
- 41:02Speaker 6: been talking a lot lately about like you just want
- 41:05Speaker 6: to be six months in on night one, you know,
- 41:08Speaker 6: like I don't to that point, just get me to
- 41:11Speaker 6: six months in right away.
- 41:12Speaker 5: Let's get past the ooh, you know your parents are
- 41:16Speaker 5: from where.
- 41:17Speaker 6: It's like no, no, no, tell me why you hate your parents,
- 41:21Speaker 6: but you love them because they pay yourself on bill
- 41:23Speaker 6: like you know, like get me there, you know, And.
- 41:26Speaker 1: New York City is ripe for material. I imagine you
- 41:29Speaker 1: choose to live here. You can live anywhere if you
- 41:31Speaker 1: want it.
- 41:31Speaker 5: I mean I love New York. I mean I live
- 41:33Speaker 5: a very New York life, you know.
- 41:35Speaker 6: But again, the seller's here, like the seller is like
- 41:39Speaker 6: such a like if anyone's out there and you go
- 41:41Speaker 6: to a show, go to you go to New York
- 41:43Speaker 6: go to a New York City comedy seller show, go.
- 41:46Speaker 5: To any lineup, any lineup.
- 41:47Speaker 6: Like the other thing is like I love being a
- 41:50Speaker 6: the world that I'm in. I like telling people go
- 41:53Speaker 6: to just go to the show, Like I have friends,
- 41:55Speaker 6: what show are you on?
- 41:56Speaker 5: Are you there tonight? I go just go to any
- 41:58Speaker 5: just go to any show, you know.
- 42:00Speaker 6: If i'm if I'm to give like insider advice, McDougall,
- 42:03Speaker 6: street room is the one you want to go to.
- 42:06Speaker 6: Second would be Village Underground, Third would be Fat Black Lounge.
- 42:09Speaker 5: Fourth would be Fat black Bar. If you want insider tip.
- 42:12Speaker 6: If it shows is sold out, there's a standby line
- 42:16Speaker 6: a half hour before every show and it's not sold out.
- 42:19Speaker 6: It's a reservation system, so no one's paid for tickets
- 42:22Speaker 6: ahead of time, so a lot of people don't show,
- 42:25Speaker 6: So you're gonna go to a show that night. I'm
- 42:28Speaker 6: telling you it is the biggest win. If you're like
- 42:30Speaker 6: planning a date night with your wife or girlfriend, you're
- 42:33Speaker 6: going to New York City, you want to win, you
- 42:36Speaker 6: go to the commie seller. Guaranteed win. That's why you
- 42:39Speaker 6: know why all the reservations are gone. All the concierges
- 42:43Speaker 6: at the hotels. At the hotels take them up because
- 42:46Speaker 6: what better than a free ticket that someone could take
- 42:50Speaker 6: or leave. That the concierge wins and there's no loss potential.
- 42:55Speaker 3: Yep.
- 42:56Speaker 1: We were talking earlier and I said, you've got like
- 42:57Speaker 1: a Seinfeld like ish for this generation, where it's like
- 43:01Speaker 1: that is funny, it's observational, it's for the most part clean.
- 43:04Speaker 1: Of course, your language, and you do talk about sex
- 43:06Speaker 1: and stuff, but you're not going down, you know, anywhere.
- 43:08Speaker 3: It's seinfeld Ish.
- 43:10Speaker 1: That might be very basic for me to say that
- 43:12Speaker 1: knowing there's a I don't think have you met Jerry Seinfeld?
- 43:17Speaker 6: So I didn't tell you this story, did I know?
- 43:20Speaker 6: So I went on stage at Gotham. Seinfeld goes to Gotham.
- 43:24Speaker 6: That's where he works out material.
- 43:26Speaker 1: Is he there often or is he one of those
- 43:27Speaker 1: guys that'll pop in once a year or is he
- 43:29Speaker 1: like all.
- 43:30Speaker 6: No, he I I think you know he loves you
- 43:33Speaker 6: can tell he loves stand up. He kind of there's
- 43:36Speaker 6: this level of comedian like Seinfeld where they like treat
- 43:39Speaker 6: it like golf, like they like to play every day,
- 43:42Speaker 6: you know, like they like to like get out there sometimes,
- 43:44Speaker 6: or like, you know, it does seem like it's golf
- 43:46Speaker 6: to him, So he'll So I get to the Gotham
- 43:49Speaker 6: Comedy Club and they're like, hey, Jared, you're gonna go
- 43:52Speaker 6: on stage first, and then Jerry's coming and I'm like
- 43:55Speaker 6: who They're like, Jerry Seinfeld.
- 43:57Speaker 5: I'm like, oh, that Jerry.
- 44:00Speaker 6: So then they're like he could show up in five minutes,
- 44:03Speaker 6: earn fifteen minutes, we don't know. Now we're gonna turn
- 44:06Speaker 6: the light on, which means you have two minutes left
- 44:09Speaker 6: when you see the light going, get off stage because
- 44:12Speaker 6: we don't they don't want Jerry waiting.
- 44:15Speaker 5: No, he ain't waiting.
- 44:17Speaker 6: So I and five and fifteen two different numbers when
- 44:20Speaker 6: it comes to a comedian.
- 44:21Speaker 5: I want to end right, I want to end well.
- 44:24Speaker 6: I want Seinfeld to like me, you know, like that
- 44:26Speaker 6: type of thing. So I'm at Gotham. I'm on stage.
- 44:29Speaker 6: It's five minutes in and then he's so famous that
- 44:32Speaker 6: you can see his outline and you know who he is, right.
- 44:37Speaker 5: Just a silhouette and you know who he is.
- 44:39Speaker 6: I see his silhouette, but the light isn't on, so
- 44:42Speaker 6: I'm like, you know, Jay Train gonna cook. So I
- 44:47Speaker 6: so I keep going and I go into like some
- 44:49Speaker 6: material that I would think like he might like. And
- 44:52Speaker 6: the joke's on the special. You can see it on
- 44:55Speaker 6: the special, the joke that. So I come off stage
- 44:58Speaker 6: and I see the light going. I come off stage
- 45:02Speaker 6: and I see him. He goes love the fat stuff,
- 45:05Speaker 6: and I'm like, thank you, he just love the fat stuff.
- 45:10Speaker 6: And he goes, he goes, he goes Justin's Peanut butter.
