- 0:00This is Will Montgomery, former Washington Redskins center.
- 0:04Y'all what's good, folks? This is Trey Johnson, the
- 0:07headbanger, y'all, and you're listening to Mess Hall with
- 0:09Rally Captain and Tailgate Ted. What's going on, Rally?
- 0:15Did you ever get that invite out to mandatory mini camp?
- 0:19No, I didn't. I was hoping maybe you might
- 0:22have gotten one. Did you?
- 0:24No, man, I think my invite might have been sent to Terry's house
- 0:28and since he was a no show, I never got it.
- 0:31So that that, that's my guess. I'm I'm kind of given the
- 0:33benefit of doubt, but Oh well. At this juncture, we can let
- 0:40Terry have everything he needs because he's going to remain a
- 0:44commander. So we we're not going to worry
- 0:46about that. You know, so many people are
- 0:47hitting me up. Oh, do you think it's going to
- 0:49happen? I said, listen, it's gonna
- 0:51happen. This is this isn't a football
- 0:53negotiation one O 1. Just give it time.
- 0:56You know, the guy has been a stellar guy for the team.
- 0:59Just relax guys. And I said, here's the other
- 1:02thing. So what happens if he doesn't?
- 1:05What can you do or not do Nothing.
- 1:10So just sit back, relax, alright?
- 1:12Just just just pump the brakes. So I was at a a Washington Gold
- 1:19event, right? Washington Gold is what they
- 1:21call it if you have a season ticket and they've got different
- 1:24business networks. So we got a lot of listeners
- 1:25that just aren't season ticket holders.
- 1:27They don't live local. They just go to every once in a
- 1:29while. So one of the events you can
- 1:31sign up for was a Meet the Legends event and it was at MGM
- 1:36National Harbor and you got to hang out at the harbor where the
- 1:40casino is. It was in one of the ballrooms
- 1:44and you got to get autographs. So these are the legends that
- 1:47were there. It was Fred was there.
- 1:51Smoot, for those who don't know Santana, you have Arac.
- 1:56PO was there. Mark Mosley was there.
- 2:00Pierre Garcon was there. Dexter Manley was supposed to be
- 2:05there, but he never made it. Something happened and Brian
- 2:10Mitchell was there. OK, cool.
- 2:13I've got pretty much all of those guys phone numbers in my
- 2:16cell phone other than Dexter and not, you know, didn't really
- 2:21want to go. I just I've done stuff with
- 2:23those guys off the, you know, outside of football and this and
- 2:27that and just different TV stuff.
- 2:28Actually did ATV thing with Dexter where we had to cook for
- 2:32Channel 9 long time ago. And then he shook my hand and I
- 2:36didn't think I'd be able to cook and hold a pair of tongs in a
- 2:38spatula. I mean it just the legends are
- 2:41true. Did you actually like to cook?
- 2:43No, he just liked to eat, man. We made In-n-out burgers and
- 2:47Dexter was there, and maybe that's what he was doing instead
- 2:49of being at the event. But the reason I bring the event
- 2:52up was it was my first time being back in front of our
- 2:56brothers and sisters, right? So that's why I went.
- 2:59I didn't go to take pictures or get autographs from any of the
- 3:03guys. I went to shoot the S with, you
- 3:07know, fellow Burgundy and Gold brethren.
- 3:10You're right. So that was freaking awesome.
- 3:14But I want to say the main two things people asked me were
- 3:18what's going on with Terry? Just like you said, are they
- 3:22going to sign them? Is he coming back and is RFK
- 3:25happening? If I had because they were
- 3:28giving out drink tickets so each person got 2 drink tickets.
- 3:32If I had a drink ticket from everybody that asked me that
- 3:35question, I would have had to get a black car to take my ass
- 3:39home because I would have been hammered.
- 3:41I mean, that's all anybody want to talk about?
- 3:44Well, hey man, I it is what it is.
- 3:46It's hot topic, very hot topic. And, and, and so, you know,
- 3:52thank you for everyone who listens.
- 3:54You know, you met, you said something a couple seconds ago
- 3:58and, and basically the people who, who are listen aren't
- 4:01season ticket holders. And so, you know, we we really
- 4:05do appreciate you guys listening because you know, your voice
- 4:09does matter in our ear. And so we do listen to you guys
- 4:13and so we greatly appreciate it. Just want to put that out there.
- 4:17So Speaking of listening, I I do know for a fact that the team
- 4:24listened and I got feedback about one of our podcast and it
- 4:29was the one called personal seat license.
- 4:32Those of you all that have not heard it, go back, give it a
- 4:36listen or watch the, the video kind of Instagram reel that we
- 4:41put up. Because guess who has been
- 4:44having focus groups about personal seat licenses
- 4:49specifically because of the backlash that they have been
- 4:52getting that some of our listeners have been calling the
- 4:55team about? So this so they weren't happy
- 5:00then it doesn't sound like. Oh no man, they were they were
- 5:04not happy the the Instagram reel got seen a ton.
- 5:09That was maybe one of our best. I guess I've most listened to
- 5:14pods or watch pods as well. And I was speaking to different
- 5:19fans there that are season ticket holders.
- 5:20Like, we had no idea about this PSL thing.
- 5:24And then they got asked to join a couple focus groups and those
- 5:28that remember the team got lambasted for doing focus groups
- 5:33when the name was changing, right?
- 5:35What do you want the name to be? And this and that, right?
- 5:38We're not going to listen to you.
- 5:39We're not going to listen to you, but we'll make you feel
- 5:41good and and make you think we're listening to you, OK?
- 5:44Part of me starting to wonder is that what this is going to be as
- 5:47well. We're not going to listen to
- 5:48you, but you know, we'll have you come in and the individual,
- 5:52I'm not going to say who it was just at a anonymity for them
- 5:55because I know the team is monitoring things.
- 5:58But they could not believe what they were hearing in regards to
- 6:03the PS LS and everything going on.
- 6:05And from my standpoint, I was just trying to make sure that
- 6:09they understood. And we appreciate you guys
- 6:11reaching out to them and voicing your opinion.
- 6:15PS LS are going to happen. Let's just be real.
- 6:19Yeah. We just want the option as fans
- 6:23to defer these payments as long as freaking possible without
- 6:29having to pay interest, right? The example we used during that
- 6:33pod was there are some Buffalo Bills season ticket holders that
- 6:37are getting charged $20,000 for two seats.
- 6:43So that's total with two years, 0% interest.
- 6:47So that's $800 a month they have to pay for two years for their
- 6:53PSL, right? We're asking you guys if you're
- 6:56going to these focus groups say, OK team, if you're going to make
- 7:00me pay $20,000, don't make it a two year plan, make it a A5 year
- 7:07plan, make it a 10 year plan with 0% interest, right?
- 7:12And if for whatever reason we can't pay it in year 6, let's
- 7:17just say it's a 10 year plan, then you just forfeit the rest
- 7:20of the money you put down, right.
- 7:23So I understand the team is financing it for us at 0%.
- 7:28But realistically you got 15 owners that are billionaires.
- 7:32OK, maybe some are just millionaires, but still you got
- 7:35fans that aren't that now have to come up with this cash and
- 7:42it's aggressive. I mean, Mark Seagraves was just
- 7:44on with B Mitch and Finley. And did you see he got kicked
- 7:49out of the the DC City Council closed meeting?
- 7:53Well, I mean, he walked in and they let him in.
- 7:55So I guess he realized who he was and said, oh, now you got to
- 7:58go. You got to go slim.
- 8:00No, no, no, no, no, no, no. I don't, I don't know if they
- 8:04let him in, right. Let me see if I can actually
- 8:07just pull this up. So the DC City Council is
- 8:11there's a lot going on and we're going to talk about that here in
- 8:13a second just in regards to the stadium.
- 8:16I want to pull up this video because Mark is a freaking ball
- 8:18man. All right, here we go.
- 8:20We. I'm sorry, I'm sorry.
- 8:27This is a closed meeting that's canceled.
- 8:29Public can't come in while you're discussing hard.
- 8:31OK, You'll talk to us afterwards.
- 8:39So Mark's cameraman is behind him and he has his cell phone
- 8:43out and he just opens the door and you've got all these people
- 8:48sitting at a board room table like we're all in here.
- 8:52Who the Hell's walking in? Who invited you?
- 8:56If it's a closed meeting, lock the door right?
- 9:00Or have someone have someone stationed outside the door that
- 9:04says that it's a closed meeting. You know, someone with a badge,
- 9:06possibly a suit and a badge or or whatever you want to call
- 9:09those guy detective or somebody to let you know you just can't
- 9:12walk up in here, bro. But, but obviously he did.
- 9:15But you know, this is what's going to change from every
- 9:20meeting going forward. They will have someone outside
- 9:22of the door now, I guarantee it. So Speaking of meetings going
- 9:27forward, it is Tuesday the 17th and since June 10th, when Mark
- 9:33Seger's busted in there and our last show, a bunch of stuff has
- 9:36been coming out. They're talking about not
- 9:39meeting the proposed July 15th deadline to vote on this that
- 9:46the mayor basically says has to be done.
- 9:50So the DC Council members are saying that the approval is
- 9:53likely, but they need more time. So the mayor is saying that if
- 10:03you're doing this, you're sacrificing our exclusive seat
- 10:06at the table and a 2.7 billion in private investment.
- 10:10Bowser has wanted the council to approve the deal with the
- 10:12commanders as part of the council's fiscal year 2026
- 10:16budget process. And the commanders came back and
- 10:19made a statement once they heard this.
- 10:22So from the commander side of things, it it does not.
- 10:27It wasn't pretty from the commanders, right?
- 10:29So let's see here. You got some verbiage, some
- 10:32video footage, because I because I want to hear this.
- 10:35Per team spokesperson, we have been productively engaged in
- 10:39dialogue with Council members about this generational
- 10:42opportunity for DC and are committed to delivering an
- 10:45incredible home for our players and fans while creating a
- 10:49landmark venue that produces 10s of thousands of jobs and
- 10:53billions of dollars in new tax revenue.
- 10:56Throughout the process, we have been clear the Commanders need a
- 10:59new home by 20-30. Any delay will make us unable to
- 11:03deliver on that timeline, as well as prevent us from
- 11:06attracting major concert performers and international
- 11:09events such as the 2031 FIFA Women's World Cup to DC.
- 11:14This is what's at stake for DC and its residents if the project
- 11:18is delayed. We are prepared to work with the
- 11:20council morning and night over the next six weeks to keep the
- 11:24stadium on schedule so we can deliver for DC's future.
- 11:31That, to me doesn't seem like the Commanders are willing to
- 11:35let the DC City Council slide on that July 15th deadline.
- 11:40Well, Ted, let's face it, man, each day that you're in limbo
- 11:46means another day delayed. And we already know that in
- 11:51order to get this thing kicked off the ground or once they do
- 11:54put a shovel in ground, that they're going to have to work,
- 11:58almost work 24/7 to really get this thing up and running in
- 12:02within the five years that they're talking about.
- 12:05I want to, I want to, I want to dive back a couple seconds.
- 12:10You know, this shouldn't be the whole PSL thing shouldn't be a
- 12:15secret. And I feel as though we're kind
- 12:19of operating in the dark a little bit.
- 12:21And what I mean by that is I would think that ownership would
- 12:27want to put out as much information as possible to let
- 12:33your season ticket members know exactly what they're up against.
- 12:38So that way you know, you know, you know, you have a product and
- 12:44you know, you have a fan base that wants that this product.
- 12:47So tell us, hey guys, this is what we're going to do.
- 12:52And like you said, give us some options, whether it's 10 years,
- 12:55five years, whatever the case may be, because it's no
- 12:58different than my Madrid trip, OK?
- 13:03I've seen trips to Madrid that costs and you've seen it up to
- 13:07$7000. Well, if the if the football
- 13:09season started hypothetically next month, you'd have a lot of
- 13:14people who wouldn't be able to go to this trip on this trip.
- 13:20So we have payment plans. So get all the information out.
- 13:25You guys have a ballpark idea of what it's going to be.
- 13:28So do it sooner than later so that you can have maximum
- 13:32participation of the fan base that you say you want.
- 13:37I don't see anything wrong with that.
- 13:39Let's not beat beat around the Bush and be behind closed doors.
- 13:44Let's talk about it. You want us to give you
- 13:46feedback, give us the feedback that we need to make a great
- 13:52decision to remain on board with the team.
- 13:57I hear you and I just I don't see that happening for two
- 14:01reasons. A Because RFK is not 100% lock
- 14:07so if they don't meet this deadline.
- 14:10It doesn't matter if it's RFK, any new stadium, even if even
- 14:13even if you tear down Northwest right now and build a new
- 14:17statement, is still going to have the same repercussions.
- 14:211000% agree, but the dollar amount that you need to build in
- 14:27DC may be different than the dollar amount you build in
- 14:32Landover or build and Stafford or wherever the hell this thing
- 14:36is going to go. The fact that they're having
- 14:39these focus groups is, I think, kind of misguided on their part.
- 14:48No one, I don't care who you are, is going to be OK with the
- 14:51PSL. So what are you expecting to get
- 14:53out of this focus group? And that's believe they're never
- 14:56going to put you and me on one of these focus groups to get our
- 14:59opinion on this. So like, what do you think if
- 15:02you're the team, people are going to say, OK, yeah, charge
- 15:05me extra. Yeah, charge me extra for my
- 15:08tickets or the right to just buy my tickets.
- 15:11Then I still have to actually buy the ticket.
- 15:12And oh, by the way, unless I have a premium seat that I pay
- 15:16444 to. PS: Li don't have access to that
- 15:20concert that's coming or tickets for the World Cup that the team
- 15:24is butt hurt about not getting potentially here in DC.
- 15:27I mean, what are they actually hoping comes out of these focus
- 15:30groups? Well, it's something that my
- 15:32grandfather told me growing up as a kid, he says.
- 15:36Steven, you know, it's like a woman, a woman can can handle
- 15:43anything you throw at her as long as she knows what the truth
- 15:47is, may not like it, but she can handle it.
- 15:52We're fans. We may not like it, but we're
- 15:57going to handle it. Just let us know sooner than
- 16:01later, because what you don't want to do is you don't want
- 16:04people to turn their back on you.
- 16:07You know, we're in a good, we're in a good space right now.
- 16:11You know, this, this, this is like relationship one-on-one.
- 16:13We're in a good space right now. Just talk to us, communicate
- 16:16with this, you know, and, and let it be legitimate.
- 16:19That's all we ask. And I don't think anything is
- 16:21wrong with that. No, it's it's a solid ask.
- 16:24It's a legit ask and I I honestly don't know if they care
- 16:30about you not renewing your tickets, me not renewing my
- 16:34tickets. We are an individual.
- 16:36Season tickets are such small fish in the grand scheme of
- 16:40things. They're going to make their
- 16:41money off of the sweets and the big premium seats and those
- 16:46exclusive things from the lobbyists and the fat cats that
- 16:50are going to be expensing and buying season tickets as part of
- 16:54tax write offs to entertain people downtown.
- 16:57Your Joe Blow that has been a season ticket holder for 30
- 17:00years. You and me that have stuck this
- 17:02thing out forever, if we can't afford to go because we can't
- 17:07afford to PSL, they know we'll still grab a ticket here and
- 17:09there just to be there. But I don't think they're going
- 17:12to cry over the fact that you or me can't pony up the cash for
- 17:16PSL. It's just the nature of doing
- 17:18business in their eyes. It's just the nature of building
- 17:21a new stadium that they are quote UN quote, paying $2.7
- 17:25billion for. But in actuality, I'd love to
- 17:29know how much of that is going to be subsidized by PS LS.
- 17:33And the other part of this is the DC City Council wants to
- 17:38know what other options DC has if they don't build a stadium.
- 17:42So this is actually a video put out by Council member Zachary
- 17:46Parker. I'll play just a couple seconds
- 17:48of this because it's a 5 minute video.
- 17:50We are being asked now to vote on the commander's deal by July
- 17:5515th. That is a date exclusively and
- 17:58previously discussed and agreed to by the mayor and the
- 18:02commanders. Not only does that not align
- 18:05with the council's current budget voting process, which
- 18:08we're not slated to vote on the budget until the end of July, it
- 18:11would be unprecedented for the council to take merely weeks to
- 18:16vet a multibillion dollar deal, the largest in the district's
- 18:19history. While we took months and years
- 18:23on other projects, Audi Field, Nat Stadium, there's been
- 18:29discrepancies about the council's intentions and I want
- 18:32to make clear that the council has every intention to vote on
- 18:35this deal, to protect this deal and move it forward, in fact.
- 18:40So I'm going to stop it there, right?
- 18:42So they're saying that this is going to be voted on.
- 18:47It's just not going to be voted on by your timeline, Mayor
- 18:50Bowser, your timeline, Josh Harris, right?
- 18:53We're not going to work day and night, burn the midnight oil and
- 18:58sit down and not take our Juneteenth vacation, not take
- 19:02our July 4th vacation because you want us to get this done to
- 19:06make you happy. And Councilman Phil Mendesen,
- 19:10think he's a chair, came out and said that we are in fact,
- 19:13protecting the money in this. We're making sure that the money
- 19:17is going to be set aside, but we want to make sure that we look
- 19:22at this thing up, down, front, back, left, right, up, just all
- 19:27over the place, just to make sure that there is no hidden
- 19:30pieces. And I love to see how thick this
- 19:32thing is, right? But we're not operating on your
- 19:35timeline. You're operating on our timeline
- 19:38and take it or leave it. Wow.
- 19:42So basically, hey, look, we don't care that you're giving us
- 19:452.7 billion. We don't care about that.
- 19:47We care about making sure that the IS are dot and the T's
- 19:50across buddy, you're not going to slip, you're not going to
- 19:52slip in something that says ownership gets 100% of of
- 19:57something or whatever have you. We, we want to make sure that
- 20:00that it all playing fields are fair for everybody.
- 20:03OK, I mean, on one aspect, I totally understand because the
- 20:08last thing you want to do is get in bed with somebody and the
- 20:11next thing you know, you know they have please.
- 20:14So when, when all you had to do is just look at them a little
- 20:17closer. So I I I understand that.
- 20:21On a business aspect of things, it's like, wow, you guys are was
- 20:26it, was it, was it the mobster? So you're breaking my ball.
- 20:29You know, you, you're hurting me over here.
- 20:31So it's, it's, it's a ownership is, is, is, it's a no win for
- 20:36them because you're not going to, it's obviously you're not
- 20:39going to push them any faster to, to get this done.
- 20:42So at some point in time, you know, you can, you can say what
- 20:47you want, but everybody's got to play by some type of rule.
- 20:50And so the rules are looks like they are winning on this one.
- 20:54It looks like, I mean, we don't know what what did happen in the
- 20:58next couple of weeks, but you know, they they could have an
- 21:02emergency if there's such a thing, an emergency meeting
- 21:05where they they burn the midnight oil, understanding the
- 21:08the severity of it for the city. Go ahead.
- 21:12Speaking of emergency meeting, the DC City Council is having a
- 21:16public hearing tomorrow, Wednesday the 18th.
- 21:20So if you guys are listening to this and you want to go, by all
- 21:23means go. But because of that, the
- 21:26commander sent this e-mail out to, I'm assuming it's the season
- 21:30ticket holders or people just on their list says we need your
- 21:33voice. Support the new stadium in RFK.
- 21:36Right now, local leaders are considering whether to approve a
- 21:38bold once in a generation investment in our city's future.
- 21:42The new commander stadium in RFK and we need your help.
- 21:45This isn't just about sports. I'm going to Fast forward
- 21:48through this saying public testimony is now being accepted
- 21:51for a hearing this Wednesday and the council needs to hear from
- 21:53you. You might have heard that the
- 21:55council wants to delay a vote in the stadium until this fall, a
- 21:58significant set back that could delay the opening of the stadium
- 22:01in 20-30. Submit your testimony, right?
- 22:06Let us know why this stadium means so much to you and why you
- 22:11support it. So they are asking fans to go
- 22:15here and I click on submit testimony and it actually sends
- 22:19me to the DC Council's website and it's showing just a bunch of
- 22:26stuff in the DC City Council, all their things.
- 22:28I have no idea how the hell you submit your testimony going
- 22:31through here, but yeah, it actually shows your deadline to
- 22:36testify and all this other stuff.
- 22:38Oh, and how to submit your testimony.
- 22:41So it's just I'm shocked. I also think that there there's
- 22:45there might be shaking in their boots a little bit that this
- 22:48thing just isn't going to get done by that July 15th deadline.
- 22:51And do you remember Lavar Arrington when he was here?
- 22:55Yeah. So Lavar had a basically a
- 23:00breakup with the team because he signed his nine year contract.
- 23:05So he signed a nine year deal and then said that the team
- 23:10omitted a $6.5 million bonus from the final contract.
- 23:18It was there in the earlier drafts, but in the final
- 23:22contract that he signed, it wasn't there.
- 23:26So I guess he didn't read it again.
- 23:28I guess his agent didn't read it again, but he filed A grievance
- 23:33with the NFNFLPAI don't remember how it panned out or whatever
- 23:36else happened. I just do remember that that
- 23:38basically killed his relationship with the team and
- 23:41he hasn't really come back since then to be a part of the
- 23:45franchise or anything whatever. I mean, to me he was overrated,
- 23:48didn't do anything here in Burgundy and goal other than and
- 23:50Troy even's career, which I do appreciate.
- 23:53But I don't blame the council for wanting to dot their IS
- 23:57cross their T's right? I mean, the budget got to them
- 24:01late and then now you are asking them to do things per a
- 24:06different time and they're used to.
- 24:08But I also see the team side where this is a historic amount
- 24:13of money that they're being given.
- 24:16So maybe work a little bit of overtime.
- 24:19You've worked overtime. I know I've had to work
- 24:22overtime. Right, yeah, I couldn't come to
- 24:25the meeting last week because I was working.
- 24:27So, you know, I miss out on a lot of stuff because I'm
- 24:31working, but hey, come on, guys, we need a little help here.
- 24:37So, so I understand that maybe if I no, I'm not going to say
- 24:41that. I'm not going to say that.
- 24:43I'll, I'll keep my thoughts to myself.
- 24:45But but, but you know, there's got to be obviously the team is,
- 24:51is, is, is is pushing and they're giving, they're giving,
- 24:53they're giving and they want the Congress people to do the same.
- 24:57Hey, give a little bit more that that that's all we can ask for.
- 25:00Just give a little bit more. So so we can get this thing done
- 25:03because in ultimately it, it's it, it will be a win win for the
- 25:07city, for the fans and ownership.
- 25:10So hopefully they can get it done.
- 25:14Yeah, I I think it's going to get done.
- 25:16Let me be clear. I it's not that I think that RF
- 25:18KS at risk, but does this give the opportunity for Maryland to
- 25:23all of a sudden say, hey, they're giving you 2.7, I'll
- 25:27give you 2.75 and let tailgating happen.
- 25:30You know, it's just different stuff like that.
- 25:33So I'm, I'm not going to say never because we saw what
- 25:36happened with Ted Leonsis looking like a fool out in
- 25:39Virginia, you know, doing his whole press conference saying
- 25:42it's going to go through but. That's, that's happened several
- 25:45times in Virginia now. I mean, I think, I think about
- 25:49where there's a in Alexandria, they wanted that stadium where
- 25:52this where the, the, the subway or not subway, but the the
- 25:56railway was and back in early, early night or late 90s and that
- 26:02didn't happen. So then here we already Fast
- 26:05forward to to, to Ted, it didn't happen.
- 26:08And now here we are again. And what are what are the odds?
- 26:13What are the odds that it it's not back at RFK, you had a bit
- 26:16right now and to be at RFK at the site or to be back at
- 26:21Northwest Stadium or someplace else, what the odds do you
- 26:23think? I'd say 10% chance doesn't
- 26:25happen. All right.
- 26:27I think 90, it's happening at RFK and they're both just
- 26:32playing hardball right now. The fact that the team is saying
- 26:34and that Bowser saying that if we missed this deadline, then
- 26:38we're at risk. Realistically, DC knows they've
- 26:41got the best location. All right, DC's got the sexiest
- 26:45spot for the stadium. When you want the backdrop, you
- 26:49want it to be the Lincoln Memorial.
- 26:51When you're doing B roll and you've got that aerial footage,
- 26:54you don't want it to be no offense to row John.
- 26:57You don't want to be Wegmans and that's why Wegmans.
- 26:59I love that Wegmans right. You don't want to be a Royal
- 27:02Farms gas station that the Goodyear blimp is looking
- 27:04overhead. So I mean, the council knows
- 27:08like, all right, well, you know, we got the land approved for
- 27:12multi use by Congress, by the Senate and by the president,
- 27:17regardless of your stadium. So we're going to do something
- 27:20there. So let us look and see what
- 27:23happens. I just, I hope ultimately that
- 27:27cooler heads prevail and it's not just a bunch of politicians
- 27:31blowing smoke up people's, you know what?
- 27:34But it was a big focus of discussion when I was at the
- 27:37event this past week. It was that and it was Terry.
- 27:40And I wanted to make sure that our listeners that are not
- 27:43local, that don't get Washington stuff 24/7 did get an update on
- 27:48everything going on. Yeah, I appreciate it and I know
- 27:53if I appreciate it, they appreciate it.
- 27:59Like you said, hopefully cooler heads prevail as far as the
- 28:02Terry contract and the stadium deal, Like you, I feel it's
- 28:07going to get done. But man, if it doesn't, do you
- 28:12realize the mayor can't continue to have egg on her face, bro,
- 28:16You know, she, she, she just can't because because but here's
- 28:21the other thing. At some point in time, you have
- 28:24to stop saying it's a done deal. And here we are.
- 28:26Because what, it hasn't been voted on, it's not done yet.
- 28:31So what, you paraded it out there like it was and had
- 28:34everybody saying yay, but all of a sudden, no, nae nae is what
- 28:39they're saying. So just hold on and like I mean.
- 28:42To play Welcome to DC during a press conference when they ain't
- 28:45even back yet, right? I mean, I don't want to say the
- 28:49balls on her because that's just not right, but damn man, if I'm
- 28:53playing poker against her and if she's bluffing me, I'm probably
- 28:57going to believe her every time. But she just had a straight ass
- 28:59face sitting on that stage with that ownership and Rodger
- 29:02Goodell. But if she shoves all in, I'm
- 29:04following my cards. Had me fooled.
- 29:12Yeah, I just the count and once again, I think it's going to
- 29:16happen and the council's going to go through and we'll get the
- 29:18football back in DC. But Speaking of football, the
- 29:22team is on a break right now because they had mandatory mini
- 29:24camp, right? And guess who did show that?
- 29:31We weren't sure if they were going to be there because they
- 29:33missed because they missed OTA's voluntary.
- 29:38You talking about Lattimore? I'm talking about Marshawn
- 29:41Lattimore, right? And there were some concerns
- 29:45about how much of A participant he would be.
- 29:48This is actually Dan Quinn talking about Lattimore's
- 29:50basically status and everything he got to do during mini camp.
- 29:54Dan, this may be in line with your customization for the work
- 29:58at these guys. Is Marshawn a full participant
- 30:00this week? He'll get a quite a bit, but
- 30:04I'll see where it goes after today and do we need to see how
- 30:06much tomorrow? But yeah, I would say full
- 30:08participant going into it. What does that mean for
- 30:10everybody? A little bit different then, but
- 30:12yeah, there's no restrictions going in.
- 30:13Got. You did you see any of the
- 30:18reporters different clips or anything else like that of mini
- 30:21camp since we couldn't be there? I mean, I saw Lattimore speaking
- 30:27on why he wanted to come back and, and, and it's so weird.
- 30:32I swear he listened to the podcast because everything that
- 30:35I said, he basically said verbatim, you know, it's, it's a
- 30:40pressure thing. You know, it brought him here to
- 30:43to do certain things and, and, and here it is.
- 30:46He's not living up to it in our eyes.
- 30:49So he he brushed himself back a little bit faster than what he
- 30:52should have. In a nutshell.
- 30:54I actually I've got that clip right here.
- 30:56Let the listeners hear from Marshawn's mouth.
- 31:00Last year you battled some injuries.
- 31:02How do you feel this year? Obviously look pretty good out
- 31:04there right now. I feel good.
- 31:06Just getting a full offseason to get healthy.
- 31:08I feel great. You know, I've been working a
- 31:10lot trying to keep my keep being a safe, you know, getting better
- 31:14safe than I was obviously last year, you know, dealing with an
- 31:17injury. So, you know, I feel good.
- 31:19What type what type of difference do you just notice
- 31:21the nuances of just being out there?
- 31:23Anything specific that you really can feel a difference
- 31:25compared to last year? Just the burst, you know, just
- 31:27getting on my brakes and all that.
- 31:29And I was dealing with Harrison, you know, that that take a lot
- 31:31out of you, you know, and it take a long time to heal and I
- 31:34was just trying to battle through that.
- 31:35But now since I got a full, you know, offseason, I just feel
- 31:38great. I feel explosive and all that.
- 31:40So not really, not really. I feel a little timid, just not
- 31:48like physically like, you know, not mentally like timid.
- 31:51But I could tell in my game, when I watch film, I could tell
- 31:54if I'm how I'm stepping, you know, I look timid, you know, in
- 31:57my game. And now, you know, just being
- 31:59out there for these past two days, I feel way better than I
- 32:01did actually. Is it frustrating for you?
- 32:03To be in a new spot and not feel like yourself, you feel like
- 32:06you're. Depressed.
- 32:06Yeah. Because I, I just wanted to
- 32:08prove that, you know, they made the right decision, you know,
- 32:11obviously. So I just want to get out there
- 32:13and say what I can do. But you know, I was hurt, but I
- 32:16don't want to make excuses. So I was out there.
- 32:18So I was out there. If I was good enough to play,
- 32:21you know, I can be evaluated on that.
- 32:23So, you know, it is what it is. I just want to get out there
- 32:25this year, you know, So what I can do.
- 32:28So I owe you an apology because you were right.
- 32:31You said he rushed himself back out there base because of the
- 32:34public sentiment of them making the trade for him and wanting
- 32:38him to, you know, just prove his worth.
- 32:41And I didn't think the team would put him out there if he
- 32:43wasn't ready. And maybe he just didn't tell
- 32:46him, but you would think that the trainer's could tell that he
- 32:50wasn't 100%. And if anything he hurt us more
- 32:53than he helped us when he was out there.
- 32:55He was a freaking liability. I remember freaking A.J.
- 32:57Brown just abusing them all up and down the field and just
- 33:00getting stupid penalties. I don't remember how many
- 33:01penalties he got in that game, but it was just a ridiculous
- 33:04amount. So to see and hear that he says
- 33:07he's back, I do feel better about that because to me, the
- 33:12questions we have this upcoming season are the secondary and can
- 33:19we stop the run and get a pass rush, right?
- 33:22When you lose Dante Fowler and all of a sudden John Allen's not
- 33:25here and you're bringing Ken Law and all these other guys and you
- 33:28trade it for Lattimore. Lattimore is basically the big
- 33:31offseason signing that we made other than Tunsil, even though
- 33:34we got him last year in the middle of the year, right?
- 33:36He was just that big name that we acquired.
- 33:38I think Ted out all this, what people need to understand is at
- 33:42the end of the day, level heads will prevail.
- 33:45And so, so many times we want to that instant fix, as we always
- 33:54say. But sometimes, you know, instant
- 33:56oatmeal isn't better than the oatmeal that's on the stove.
- 34:00You know that microwave oatmeal sometimes doesn't taste as good
- 34:02as on a stove. So just some my big sometimes.
- 34:07So so my biggest thing is hey guys, just relax.
- 34:11Just relax. We're going to be fine.
- 34:14I agree with you. I think he's going to be OK.
- 34:16I'm I'm happy that he is there. They've got a couple weeks off
- 34:22that we've got training camp coming up.
- 34:24I'm fingers crossed fans get to go to training camp.
- 34:27I know last year we only got to go just a handful of times.
- 34:31I know more and more teams are limiting the amount of practices
- 34:34fans can go to. And if I'm not, I think the
- 34:39Eagles only let fans go to one practice, right?
- 34:42So eventually I think it's going to kind of be the norm because
- 34:45they just don't want that distraction, but they still want
- 34:48to have some type of fan interaction there.
- 34:49So we'll see what happens. How concerned are you that
- 34:55Terry's deal still not done yet and it's the middle of June?
- 35:00Well, as I said before when we first started the pod, I'm not
- 35:04concerned at all. He's had and and this is just
- 35:08regurgitating what everyone else has said, but he's had a bunch
- 35:11of mediocre quarterbacks and he still put up great numbers.
- 35:14And now you mean to tell me he's had the team, the overall team
- 35:20success was the best that we've had in years and you're just
- 35:26going to let him go by the wayside?
- 35:27No, that's not going to happen. They understand the importance
- 35:32of having Terry or as far as the leadership, his catching
- 35:36ability, his, his, his, his, his, his being a grown man, you
- 35:41know, is is on and off the field, as they say.
- 35:45So I'm not worried about it at all.
- 35:47And if you remember a couple years back, he missed a couple
- 35:51of practices because of the whole contract deal as well.
- 35:55And that was the old regime and they gave him a deal.
- 35:58This is a new regime we got, we have to say for lack of saying
- 36:02it, I mean, we smarter people are in the building.
- 36:05I mean, not to say that the the old people, older guys didn't
- 36:07have a football acumen, but smarter people are in the
- 36:11building with cooler heads, calmer heads.
- 36:13Just like BC Council is looking over the contract, best believe
- 36:18the commanders are looking over the contract to see what is
- 36:22going to be beneficial for for them or the owners group as well
- 36:28as Terry's concern. So I think that this is just as
- 36:33I said before, just standard contract negotiations one O 1.
- 36:39What do you think? I'm not concerned about it.
- 36:42It was upsetting to see Noah Brown go out, Right.
- 36:46And at a point, I guess it's good because the younger guys
- 36:49are getting reps and not knowing the status of Noah, right.
- 36:56This is actually, this is Dan Quinn talking about what
- 36:58happened to Noah. But can you get update us on
- 37:00Noah Brown? I have no update.
- 37:02I know he's getting an MRI today, this afternoon.
- 37:05So yeah, I don't want to speculate on what?
- 37:09Yeah. MRI today.
- 37:10Yeah. And then?
- 37:13Wait a minute, I thought he was getting an MRI last week when
- 37:15this when this happened? Yeah, this clip was from last
- 37:18week. We still have no update on Noah
- 37:21Brown. They.
- 37:22Still have. Not talked about what happened
- 37:25to him. Then that tells me it's it's, I
- 37:29shouldn't say that, but on average, when you wait this
- 37:32long, maybe, maybe, who knows? I'm not even playing against.
- 37:36Yeah, I don't want to speculate. It's just weird and they don't.
- 37:39Have any press? Conferences coming up, so there
- 37:42is nothing for them to report on and say back to the media at
- 37:46that point, what's going on. But it has been a week since
- 37:50Noah got carted off the field and they did say he yelled in
- 37:55pain when he was going off on the cart.
- 37:57But listening to the Beltway football pod, they said it's
- 38:00because the guy driving the golf cart hit a bump or something and
- 38:03Noah yelled and shrieked in pain and then told the guy watch how
- 38:07you're driving. So you know who knows?
- 38:10I mean, I'm sure he definitely wasn't feeling good, but the
- 38:13fact that we don't know how he's doing and he was a big part of
- 38:18the offense. Granted, he did miss a decent
- 38:20amount of the season last year after he got hurt with the
- 38:22kidney problem, but you hate to see that happen to the guy.
- 38:27And I think it was today Pro Football Focus came out with
- 38:30their wide receiver quarterback combinations.
- 38:35So within a 5 yard gap. Where do you think Terry and
- 38:43Jaden land on that QB wide receiver list in rankings?
- 38:49Out of the all 32 teams. Yeah.
- 38:56I'm going to say 7. That's the final answer.
- 39:06That's my final answer. All right, you got it.
- 39:12They are 5th on the list. OK so actually sorry, 4th on the
- 39:18list says here Jaden Daniels and Tara Mclaurin.
- 39:21Daniels came in at #6 in PFF quarterback rankings for the
- 39:252025 season while Mclaurin cracked the top ten of the wide
- 39:28receivers rankings. What puts this duo even higher
- 39:31on the list as a collective is the fact that Daniels earned an
- 39:34Elite 92.9 PFF passing grade when targeting Mclaurin and
- 39:40Marcus Mariota earned an Elite 93.2 PFF passing grade when
- 39:44targeting Mclaurin while Daniels was hurt.
- 39:47So I'm wondering if Terry's agent is sending this to the
- 39:51commanders and a you know, guys are guys are 4th on the list.
- 39:58Number one was Joe Burrow and Jamar Chase, number 2 was Jalen
- 40:01Hurts and A.J. Brown #3 was CJ Strata, Nico
- 40:05Collins. So those are the only other
- 40:07pairings that according to PFF are a better duo than the one
- 40:12that we have here in DC. So.
- 40:16I know it's going to get done. You know what's going to get
- 40:18done, right? It's just a lot of fans have
- 40:21anxiety right now with the fact that it's not.
- 40:23And looking back in 2022, Terry signed his three-year extension
- 40:30around July 5th, right? And he missed OTAs and mini camp
- 40:35back then. And guess what?
- 40:36He missed OTAs and mini camp this time.
- 40:38So we'll see if history repeats itself and Terry does sign that
- 40:42thing rather than July time frame.
- 40:45But if he's not signed by training camp you going to start
- 40:49to get worried. No, I'm even a little bit.
- 40:54No, I'm not going to get worried at all because once again, it's
- 40:59football holdout. It's 101 negotiations, man.
- 41:03So right now he's so right now he's in basic 101, he's bought
- 41:06it. If that happens, he's going to
- 41:07take it up to to 102103. He's going he's going to take it
- 41:11up a notch or two. But you got to do what you got
- 41:14to do to secure your bag, you know, and he does hold the
- 41:21pieces if he wants to play with us.
- 41:25And the ownership isn't going to let it get that, get that bad.
- 41:28They just aren't. They're going to.
- 41:29I have faith that they're going to go ahead and get this thing
- 41:32done. Don't know when, but I just have
- 41:35a faith that they're going to get it done.
- 41:37One last question, what gets done sooner, Terry's contract
- 41:41extension or the City Council votes on RFK?
- 41:45Terry's contract extension. Yeah, I think you're right.
- 41:48I think the council is going to push this thing and screw it up
- 41:51until later on this fall, later on the summer.
- 41:53Because because here's the thing, I think what they're
- 41:57trying to do is, and I could be wrong, this this is just rally
- 42:00captain in in the years that I've lived my life, my this
- 42:04short time on earth, the council sounds like they're saying, we
- 42:09know you're billionaires. We, we know you're giving us
- 42:12this money, but we're going to make you wait.
- 42:16We're going to make you wait because we can do it.
- 42:21And that's what I feel We we're going to give it to you, but
- 42:25we're going to make you sweat a little bit before we give it to
- 42:29you. I, I think you're spot on, man.
- 42:33I, I think that's exactly what's happening.
- 42:35And it also wouldn't surprise me if we start to hear stories and
- 42:40we get closer to that July 15th deadline that anonymous sources
- 42:45are talking about the team speaking with, you know, Wes
- 42:48Moore and Maryland again, just to make the City Council score a
- 42:52little bit, too. They have to, you can see right
- 42:55now, they know that hey, look, I'll do anything for you, baby.
- 42:58I'll do anything. And she's like, and and OK, so I
- 43:07got all these other guys who want to do the exact same thing.
- 43:09So, you know, I need I need a little bit more.
- 43:14Show me some more, you know, one guy.
- 43:16Well, I'll give you a Porsche. Well, I'll fly you to Brazil or
- 43:19the Maldives. Well, OK, this guy here is going
- 43:21to take me to Dubai. Well, now I got to step my game
- 43:25up. All right, So I'm gonna put you
- 43:28on the G5 instead of first class, So you see how it works?
- 43:32I mean, that's just that's just how it is, man.
- 43:34So you know, we we've all been there and on some level, maybe
- 43:39not those levels, but in some level of our life, we've, we've
- 43:42been there, we've all had to negotiate something.
- 43:45So and this is no different. Well, hey, I hear the music
- 43:49playing in the background was lets me know that we are coming
- 43:52to a close on another episode of the DMV mess hall.
- 43:56And we greatly appreciate you guys listening ownership.
- 43:59We greatly appreciate you listening as well because it
- 44:03takes a collective amount of people to understand what
- 44:08everyone needs. Hey, you RIP it hard or you
- 44:14don't RIP it at all. Rally Captain Tailgate Ted.
- 44:17We'll see you in 2.
