- 0:06Speaker 2: Hi.
- 0:06Speaker 3: I'm Ryan Blaney, a third generation race car driver, and
- 0:09Speaker 3: we dedicate a lot of our time to going as
- 0:11Speaker 3: fast as possible. My Grandpa Lou is the reason why
- 0:13Speaker 3: my dad and I started racing, and I'm really proud
- 0:15Speaker 3: to follow on his tracks. But when my grandpa was
- 0:18Speaker 3: diagnosed with Alzheimer's, it was a very unexpected bump in
- 0:20Speaker 3: the road for us. I've learned a lot on this
- 0:22Speaker 3: journey with my Grandpa Lou, and the memories of my
- 0:25Speaker 3: grandpa will always be with me.
- 0:26Speaker 4: It's important to.
- 0:27Speaker 3: Notice if older family members are acting differently, experiencing problems
- 0:30Speaker 3: with their memory, or having trouble with routine tasks. Talking
- 0:33Speaker 3: about Alzheimer's can be really tough, but if you notice something,
- 0:36Speaker 3: have a conversation with your level, encourage them to see
- 0:39Speaker 3: a doctor or offer to go with them. Early detection
- 0:41Speaker 3: of Alzheimer's can give your family time to explore support services,
- 0:44Speaker 3: make a plan for the future, and access available treatments.
- 0:47Speaker 3: The Alzheimer's Association provides care support and research to help
- 0:51Speaker 3: you take control of the situation with your family and
- 0:53Speaker 3: manage the disease together. If you or your family are
- 0:56Speaker 3: noticing changes, it could be Alzheimer's talk about seeing a
- 0:59Speaker 3: doctor together. Is it alz dot org slash time to talk?
- 1:03Speaker 3: A message from the Alzheimer's Association, any ad Council.
- 1:07Speaker 5: The few sin estros come to play on those on
- 1:09Speaker 5: eleven fifty Am and ninety three point seven Franks to
- 1:12Speaker 5: Kelly Berto's. This is Kaseyn E.
- 1:14Speaker 4: Colley Station Broader family owned and operated since nineteen seventy two.
- 1:18Speaker 4: Stepcheck Service Center, twenty two hundred longmyre just down from
- 1:22Speaker 4: the post office in College Station. All right, welcome in.
- 1:26Speaker 4: It is Wednesday, all Willie Wednesday. This portion of the
- 1:29Speaker 4: program brought to you by Central Texas Sports Medicine. This
- 1:35Speaker 4: one at noon. This is a third day in a row.
- 1:37Speaker 4: We've had really good show. Consequently, I'm taking off the
- 1:42Speaker 4: rest of the week after today because I've earned it.
- 1:44Speaker 4: Coming up in just a few moments, we're going to
- 1:47Speaker 4: be visiting with Elizabeth Pryor, the daughter of the late
- 1:52Speaker 4: Great Richard Pryor. She will join us. She has a
- 1:56Speaker 4: new book out on her father called Something We Said,
- 2:02Speaker 4: Richard Pryor a notorious word and me Elizabeth Pryor will
- 2:06Speaker 4: join me. Scott Clindon and is here. It's Wednesday, Mallory
- 2:10Speaker 4: is here. We have got lots of stuff going on.
- 2:15Speaker 4: Texas Tech Athletics director Kirby Hocutt released a statement defending
- 2:21Speaker 4: the program's actions in the Brendan Soresby mess outlining the
- 2:27Speaker 4: nuances of the situation. Then Joey maguire spoke about it.
- 2:32Speaker 4: McGuire was meeting with fans was asked by the crowd,
- 2:35Speaker 4: what if anything could happen to prevent sores Be from playing.
- 2:40Speaker 4: He was cautious. The head coach said, playing in week
- 2:46Speaker 4: three is still a stretch, telling Joseph Duarte of the
- 2:52Speaker 4: Houston Chronicle he's recovering from an addiction. I've sat down
- 2:55Speaker 4: with this young man, and what he's going through is serious.
- 3:00Speaker 4: The Cinema echoes what ho Cut said in his statement,
- 3:04Speaker 4: pointing out that he has two sons and has been
- 3:09Speaker 4: asking himself what would he do. Well, apparently he let
- 3:14Speaker 4: his sons play football if they were a good football player.
- 3:19Speaker 4: I'm not gonna Delvin know everything that Hocut said. I'm
- 3:25Speaker 4: sure it was written by a firm. He said, We're
- 3:32Speaker 4: taking it one day at a time. We're evaluating his
- 3:35Speaker 4: recovery compliance, watching him closely, deeply committed to his well being,
- 3:43Speaker 4: not operating on blind faith, operating on a comprehensive clinical
- 3:50Speaker 4: and compliance structure that we committed to before the court ruling,
- 3:58Speaker 4: I said Hocut. I've heard the word in ten integrity
- 4:00Speaker 4: used a great deal. As someone who has dedicated his career,
- 4:03Speaker 4: I believe in integrity is central part of our success.
- 4:08Speaker 4: I believe integrity applies on more than one front. The
- 4:13Speaker 4: integrity of sport matters. So does the integrity of how
- 4:16Speaker 4: we treat a twenty two year old who sought help,
- 4:18Speaker 4: entered residential treatment, and is working every day toward recovery.
- 4:23Speaker 4: Those two things don't have to conflict, he said. He
- 4:31Speaker 4: understands the frustration. The situation is hard. We have ongoing conversations.
- 4:39Speaker 4: We've always put students first. I mean, you've always put
- 4:44Speaker 4: the welfare of the ws and LS first. But we'll
- 4:51Speaker 4: talk with Scott about this coming up. Talking about it
- 4:55Speaker 4: for a while. Colorado coach Dion Sanders says he experienced
- 5:03Speaker 4: dark days during his fight with bladder cancer, and it
- 5:06Speaker 4: kept him away from his team during spring training, threatening
- 5:09Speaker 4: his future in coaching. He is recovering, says he's cancer free,
- 5:15Speaker 4: thankful to be back to the Buffaloes. I've got my
- 5:19Speaker 4: health back, I've got my swagger back. Dion until Good
- 5:22Speaker 4: Morning America. Last year I was fighting cancer. Didn't know
- 5:27Speaker 4: which way it was going to go. I am fully back.
- 5:30Speaker 4: Last year at this time, it wasn't a good look.
- 5:35Speaker 4: Sanders had also been fighting blood clots in his leg,
- 5:41Speaker 4: had surgery for that, had two toes amputated while he
- 5:46Speaker 4: was at Jackson State. Sanders saying, we fought the battle.
- 5:51Speaker 4: We won the battle fighting cancer. I'm cancer free. I'm good.
- 5:55Speaker 4: Great doctors in Colorado that had brought me through, God
- 5:57Speaker 4: has brought me through. I'm thank full. I'm healthy, which
- 6:03Speaker 4: is good news, I think for all of us who
- 6:06Speaker 4: watched Dion and hard not to like Dion, at least
- 6:11Speaker 4: from my perspective. If you're not watching the Stanley Cup Finals,
- 6:16Speaker 4: you are missing just about everything that this sport has
- 6:21Speaker 4: to offer. It has been a classic four games so far.
- 6:26Speaker 4: The series is tied at two. Game five. The team's
- 6:31Speaker 4: travel today Game five tomorrow night in Raleigh between the
- 6:37Speaker 4: Golden Knights and the Hurricanes. Last night, Carolina evened the series.
- 6:43Speaker 4: They took a three to one lead in the first period,
- 6:47Speaker 4: they gave up the next three goals. This series has
- 6:51Speaker 4: been like this every game, it seems. Then the Hurricanes
- 6:55Speaker 4: scored with about ten minutes to play to make at
- 6:58Speaker 4: four to three, and scored an empty netter with less
- 7:01Speaker 4: than two minutes left five three the final. There have
- 7:07Speaker 4: been a lot of goals scored. It has been exciting.
- 7:10Speaker 4: There has been back and forth. These teams are evenly matched.
- 7:17Speaker 4: We're going to hear from Jordan Stall, the captain and
- 7:21Speaker 4: leading goal scorer who had two last night, in just
- 7:24Speaker 4: a moment. We will hear from him. Rangers Royals again tonight.
- 7:33Speaker 4: McKenzie gore on the mound. The Rangers are now zero
- 7:38Speaker 4: and six in games in which they were trying to
- 7:43Speaker 4: reach five hundred. They have lost six straight games in
- 7:50Speaker 4: the games that they needed a win to get back
- 7:53Speaker 4: to the five hundred mark. Last night started well, but
- 8:00Speaker 4: they couldn't get clutch hits. They lost to the Royals
- 8:05Speaker 4: five to three. Nata Valdi got lit up in the
- 8:11Speaker 4: sixth inning. Beaks came on, got lit up. It looked
- 8:17Speaker 4: like batting practice in the sixth inning. The Royals win
- 8:22Speaker 4: the game. Josh Young had two more hits. He's tied
- 8:26Speaker 4: for third in multi hit games, is twenty two multi
- 8:29Speaker 4: hit games. He's third in a batting average, hitting three
- 8:34Speaker 4: sixteen hits safely in tent of his last eleven. And
- 8:42Speaker 4: he has been really good. Ezekiel Duran has been really good.
- 8:48Speaker 4: Evan Carter not so good, Corey Seeger not so good.
- 9:00Speaker 4: And the Rangers are three games back of the Mariners,
- 9:05Speaker 4: who are showing signs of being the team that we
- 9:11Speaker 4: saw last year. The Rangers still won seven of ten,
- 9:18Speaker 4: but they're I mean, they are a five. They are
- 9:22Speaker 4: the very definition of a five hundred team. Right now.
- 9:26Speaker 4: The Astros haven't acquired infielder right now, Delgado from the
- 9:32Speaker 4: Rays in exchange for cash. Delgado is going to Triple
- 9:36Speaker 4: A Sugar lad He spent this season in Triple A Durham.
- 9:41Speaker 4: He said to fifty fourteen doubles, three homers, thirty three
- 9:45Speaker 4: rabbis in sixty one games. He's also played third base,
- 9:48Speaker 4: he's played shortstop, he's played second base. So a little
- 9:53Speaker 4: bit of depth infield depth for the Astros. Let's see
- 10:02Speaker 4: what else ah Major League baseball is being played in
- 10:07Speaker 4: Las Vegas this week. It's a precursor to what's coming
- 10:10Speaker 4: up in a year and a half. They're building a
- 10:12Speaker 4: new stadium on the strip in Las Vegas. It won't
- 10:14Speaker 4: be done till the twenty twenty eight season, but they're
- 10:17Speaker 4: playing six games in Vegas this week at the Triple
- 10:24Speaker 4: A affiliate ballpark, and it is a launching pad. Two
- 10:29Speaker 4: nights ago, the Brewers won fifteen to fourteen in a
- 10:35Speaker 4: twelve inning game in which seventeen home runs were hit. No,
- 10:41Speaker 4: I beg your pardon. Eleven home runs were hit. More
- 10:46Speaker 4: home runs last night. Apparently. I don't know what this
- 10:51Speaker 4: is going to look like when the big league park
- 10:53Speaker 4: is built. But you know, the air is thin in
- 10:55Speaker 4: Vegas and it is hot. The ball is going to fly,
- 11:00Speaker 4: and it has been flying there, I mean incredibly. All Right,
- 11:07Speaker 4: we're going to take a break. I'll tell you tomorrow.
- 11:11Speaker 4: Jared and Jason will be in. Ryan will be in
- 11:16Speaker 4: on Friday. I will be working for you the listener tomorrow.
- 11:20Speaker 4: I will be back on Monday. We'll have the Rusty
- 11:23Speaker 4: Berson will be with me on Monday. And coming up,
- 11:30Speaker 4: we're going to visit with Elizabeth Pryor. We're going to
- 11:33Speaker 4: talk about Braden Montgomery's major league debut. When we come back.

- 13:18Speaker 8: Down a cane rolled.
- 13:21Speaker 9: Along past pounds as farms and fields, passing trains about
- 13:29Speaker 9: old flame and break yards for the old black men
- 13:33Speaker 9: in the graveyard up rusted all the movies.
- 13:40Speaker 8: Good morn in America.
- 13:42Speaker 2: Of his first game since it in the year and
- 13:44Speaker 2: the left it is backed.
- 13:46Speaker 10: Near the wall, crossing winning horn.
- 13:53Speaker 11: How about that talking about m talking about bitter look a.
- 13:58Speaker 2: Bull and what major.
- 14:03Speaker 12: League debut Braydon Montgomery? Remember the name this guy can play.
- 14:11Speaker 12: He's a member of the organization, brought up as a
- 14:16Speaker 12: first year player, the twelve first year player for the
- 14:18Speaker 12: Socks this year.
- 14:19Speaker 13: His new teammates, some of whose names he may not
- 14:23Speaker 13: yet no.
- 14:24Speaker 2: All waiting for him at the plate.
- 14:28Speaker 4: What an amazing game that is Bob Costas and Steve
- 14:34Speaker 4: Stone calling Braden Montgomery's walk off home run in the
- 14:39Speaker 4: ninth inning for the White Sox last night. It was
- 14:42Speaker 4: the Aggies major league debut. He had a hit in
- 14:46Speaker 4: his first at bat, he had a walk off home
- 14:50Speaker 4: run in his last at bat, And that is Costas
- 14:56Speaker 4: and Steve Stone calling the game. As if things couldn't
- 15:01Speaker 4: get any better. For him last night met I'm miss
- 15:04Speaker 4: Steve Stone. Steve Stone and Harry Carey in the heyday
- 15:08Speaker 4: of WG in and the Chicago Cubs was must watch television.
- 15:13Speaker 4: It's great to hear him again. Costa's calling the Braden
- 15:17Speaker 4: Montgomery home run. That's pretty cool. As we mentioned, Stanley
- 15:24Speaker 4: Cup Finals underway, Jordan Stall has been a beast. He's scored.
- 15:30Speaker 4: The captain who's thirty seven playing like twenty seven, scored
- 15:34Speaker 4: two of the goals last night in the five to
- 15:37Speaker 4: three Carolina win. Let's hear from Jordan Stall post game
- 15:43Speaker 4: on right now.
- 15:44Speaker 5: And even though the second.
- 15:45Speaker 14: Goal, Yeah, no, it's a good time to get hot.
- 15:47Speaker 14: And there's no question, I guess I just want to
- 15:53Speaker 14: contribute anyway I can. And on the buck's going in
- 15:55Speaker 14: for me and I'll take it front rope.
- 16:00Speaker 1: Chris, Jordan, you were saying yesterday you didn't know what
- 16:02Speaker 1: to expect, if it would be a one nothing game
- 16:04Speaker 1: or another one like we've had.
- 16:05Speaker 5: But I mean, what's it like to play in this
- 16:08Speaker 5: How does it feel to be in this again and
- 16:09Speaker 5: again again?
- 16:10Speaker 15: Yeah?
- 16:10Speaker 14: It's it's a wild ride, isn't it. I Mean, there's
- 16:13Speaker 14: a lot of emotion lots ups and downs, and tonight
- 16:16Speaker 14: I thought, uh, I was proud of the group how
- 16:20Speaker 14: we stepped in that third period. I mean we we
- 16:23Speaker 14: didn't obviously have a great second and you know, the
- 16:26Speaker 14: game is back and forth again, and but we were
- 16:28Speaker 14: stuck with what we kind of want we want to
- 16:31Speaker 14: do in the third and you know, stay patient, find
- 16:34Speaker 14: fine way to get one. And I thought we did
- 16:35Speaker 14: a great job of just grinding the pucket and keeping
- 16:40Speaker 14: out of our net. Especially this guy obviously was a
- 16:42Speaker 14: massive part of that, but you know it was it
- 16:46Speaker 14: was a fun game.
- 16:47Speaker 4: Left side front rope Pierre.
- 16:48Speaker 14: Yeah, question for Brandon, can you maybe take a home
- 16:53Speaker 14: take stock of this night?
- 16:54Speaker 4: You know, winning a game in its sounding like a final.
- 16:56Speaker 3: You're undrafted, if have to fight your way here to
- 16:59Speaker 3: be in the NHL.
- 17:00Speaker 16: Yeah, I think you know it's We're gonna enjoy this
- 17:03Speaker 16: one tonight, but come tomorrow morning, we're focused on game five. Personally,
- 17:08Speaker 16: I feel like I will be able to appreciate this
- 17:10Speaker 16: more after the series season's over.
- 17:13Speaker 4: So right side back rolled Ryan.
- 17:20Speaker 5: Jordan.
- 17:20Speaker 17: John Tortorella just said that you're killing them in front
- 17:23Speaker 17: of the net. What do you think when you hear
- 17:25Speaker 17: he said that, and what's your what's your sort of
- 17:29Speaker 17: strategy in that space in front of the net.
- 17:31Speaker 14: Yeah, I've been telling them guys to get to the
- 17:33Speaker 14: hoop for I don't know how long years. So good
- 17:37Speaker 14: things happen around there, and you know, especially when they play,
- 17:41Speaker 14: you know, there's an opportunity to get there and and
- 17:44Speaker 14: you just need to bounce. And I mean that power
- 17:47Speaker 14: play goal and then went off with four different guys
- 17:48Speaker 14: and just kind of sat there for me. So you
- 17:51Speaker 14: get to you got to be there, you know, And
- 17:52Speaker 14: I think we can still do a better job of
- 17:54Speaker 14: that and get in front of his eyes and get
- 17:57Speaker 14: in the net and finding ways to just get bounces
- 17:59Speaker 14: and chaos. And that's that's been our m for a
- 18:02Speaker 14: long time. And you know it's working for me and
- 18:05Speaker 14: uh and the guys, Uh gotta keep doing that.
- 18:08Speaker 18: Left side front row Adam Jordan's a thirst right game
- 18:11Speaker 18: where you guys have a period with three goals, you're
- 18:13Speaker 18: scoring them kind of in bunches and quickly. Is there
- 18:15Speaker 18: anything to that you guys kept capitalizing on one goal
- 18:17Speaker 18: kind of building momentum or is it just kind of
- 18:18Speaker 18: something that's happening.
- 18:19Speaker 14: Yeah, I think it's something that's happening. I mean, you
- 18:22Speaker 14: take them when you can and and you run, you run,
- 18:26Speaker 14: you know, the momentum as long as you can, I think,
- 18:28Speaker 14: and you know, a good teams are gonna push back.
- 18:32Speaker 10: And they did.
- 18:33Speaker 14: And you know, I thought, like I said that, the
- 18:37Speaker 14: steady throughout the whole game. I thought we were. We
- 18:40Speaker 14: were pretty steady and in regards to how we want
- 18:42Speaker 14: to do things, and probably.
- 18:44Speaker 4: Were Caine's captain Jordan Stall after the game last night.
- 18:48Speaker 4: Right now, we're going to jump out to the Polaris
- 18:52Speaker 4: Fund Center zoom line. We're going to be visiting with
- 18:56Speaker 4: Elizabeth Pryor, daughter of Richard Pryor and author of a
- 19:00Speaker 4: new book called Something We Said Richard Pryor a notorious
- 19:05Speaker 4: word and me, Elizabeth, how are you doing good?
- 19:10Speaker 1: Thank you, Thank you for having me.
- 19:12Speaker 4: Oh absolutely, thank you very much. This is a very
- 19:15Speaker 4: interesting book. I would like for you to start with
- 19:19Speaker 4: our readers on the day you were teaching class and
- 19:25Speaker 4: the girl quoted from Blazing Saddles, a movie that you
- 19:29Speaker 4: had not seen at the time.
- 19:32Speaker 1: Not only hadn't seen, but a movie that my dad
- 19:35Speaker 1: co wrote.
- 19:35Speaker 2: Yeah, and I didn't know that.
- 19:37Speaker 4: I can't believe I didn't know that until I read this.
- 19:41Speaker 1: Yeah, oh good, I love that. So it was my
- 19:46Speaker 1: second semester teaching. I was teaching about the Fugitive Slave
- 19:49Speaker 1: Act and the student was trying to a student I loved,
- 19:53Speaker 1: and she was trying to connect with my lecture. She
- 19:57Speaker 1: asked me if I'd seen Blazing Saddles. It was like, yes,
- 20:00Speaker 1: I have, very snippily, I hadn't, but I thought she
- 20:04Speaker 1: was trying to out me as Richard Pryor's daughter, which
- 20:06Speaker 1: was something I just did not talk about in my
- 20:09Speaker 1: professional life. And so if i'd paid better attention and
- 20:14Speaker 1: admitted I hadn't seen the movie, perhaps I would have
- 20:17Speaker 1: caught what was about to happen. I would have seen
- 20:19Speaker 1: it coming. But she ended up quoting a line from
- 20:23Speaker 1: the film that used two slurs, one of her Chinese
- 20:27Speaker 1: people of Chinese descent and the N word, and she
- 20:29Speaker 1: said the actual words, she didn't use the phrase the
- 20:33Speaker 1: N word. And I became undone in that moment, and
- 20:36Speaker 1: it really kind of set in motion this journey where
- 20:41Speaker 1: I started to research the personal impact of what happened
- 20:45Speaker 1: to me in that moment because it was like so
- 20:46Speaker 1: embarrassing to me, And then started thinking about as a teacher,
- 20:50Speaker 1: how I wanted to navigate it, and also asked myself
- 20:53Speaker 1: the question did I even know what the word meant?
- 20:56Speaker 1: And so started digging deeply into the history, and as
- 21:00Speaker 1: I read more and more about the N word, I
- 21:03Speaker 1: could not ignore that my father, Richard Pryor, was basically
- 21:08Speaker 1: mentioned in everything that I read, and so the book
- 21:12Speaker 1: also became about my journey rediscovering him in his word.
- 21:16Speaker 4: And in fact, many many fellow black comedians today have
- 21:23Speaker 4: followed his lead with that, have they not in terms
- 21:27Speaker 4: of in terms of how they talk and using that
- 21:31Speaker 4: word in their act?
- 21:33Speaker 1: Well, you know, I think what my father did when
- 21:36Speaker 1: he made the decision to no longer try to emulate
- 21:40Speaker 1: other comedians but speak in his own voice, was he
- 21:43Speaker 1: decided he was going to be authentic to the voice
- 21:45Speaker 1: that he knew when he grew up in that he
- 21:47Speaker 1: grew up in that included as subversive. This is different
- 21:51Speaker 1: than the white racis version of the N word. He
- 21:54Speaker 1: decided he was going to use this subversive, satirical word
- 21:58Speaker 1: that black people in his community used, and he was
- 22:01Speaker 1: going to use it on stage. And if other black
- 22:03Speaker 1: comedians are doing that too, I imagine they're doing the
- 22:05Speaker 1: same kind of thing. I don't think they're mocking or
- 22:08Speaker 1: imitating my father, but really, as many comedians got from
- 22:14Speaker 1: my father, the kind of thumbs up to be yourself
- 22:17Speaker 1: and tell your own story, that your own story can
- 22:19Speaker 1: be universal on stage.
- 22:21Speaker 4: Mel Brooks didn't want that word in his movie, did
- 22:24Speaker 4: he No.
- 22:26Speaker 1: He thought he was like, wait, I don't want to
- 22:30Speaker 1: do that. Yeah, And my father was like, no, you
- 22:33Speaker 1: don't get it. This is going to show how ridiculous
- 22:38Speaker 1: white racism, how absurd white racism is. We're going to
- 22:41Speaker 1: use it to kind of nab the whities in the movie.
- 22:45Speaker 1: This is not going to be a way to demean
- 22:47Speaker 1: black people.
- 22:49Speaker 4: You met your father, you right when you were six?
- 22:51Speaker 4: Am I right about that?
- 22:54Speaker 1: That's right? That's right?
- 22:55Speaker 4: And then you found out at a later time that
- 22:58Speaker 4: you had other siblings? True?
- 23:01Speaker 1: Yeah, yes, yes. Nobody wanted to tell me anything. I
- 23:05Speaker 1: had to find it all out by like trial and error.
- 23:09Speaker 4: How would you describe that emotion when you found out
- 23:13Speaker 4: you had brothers and sisters?
- 23:16Speaker 1: I mean I wanted I wanted to have brothers and
- 23:19Speaker 1: sisters more than anything else. And my mother never told me.
- 23:23Speaker 1: And I think it's part of the kind of secretiveness.
- 23:28Speaker 1: Oh that that shrouded my father more broadly, honestly, like
- 23:34Speaker 1: that people talked about a lot of things and also
- 23:37Speaker 1: didn't talk about anything.
- 23:38Speaker 4: Sure, but I was confused.
- 23:42Speaker 1: And excited and hopeful. And you know, as soon as
- 23:46Speaker 1: I met my sister Rain, who's the first sibling I
- 23:50Speaker 1: really met. She's two years younger than I am, I
- 23:52Speaker 1: was like in love. I was like, yeah, I get it,
- 23:56Speaker 1: this is my sister.
- 23:58Speaker 4: You grew up really two different worlds early in your life,
- 24:02Speaker 4: did you not. I mean, you'd go and visit your
- 24:04Speaker 4: father and then and then your mom was living in
- 24:07Speaker 4: a whole different world was isn't.
- 24:08Speaker 1: She one hundred percent? I mean, my mother was a
- 24:14Speaker 1: very like she's Jewish culturally Jewish, like to shop at
- 24:20Speaker 1: Momans and Marshals and you know, get the sales and
- 24:24Speaker 1: loved Jewish food and you know, and was very you know,
- 24:29Speaker 1: never did drugs, you know. And and then my father's world.
- 24:35Speaker 1: And I'm not sure if it's because he was a
- 24:37Speaker 1: celebrity or if he's because he who he was. I
- 24:39Speaker 1: think it's because of who he was and where he
- 24:41Speaker 1: came from. I mean, there were so many people in
- 24:44Speaker 1: the house, you know, people were running in and out
- 24:47Speaker 1: like you know, people, you know, loud, and he had
- 24:51Speaker 1: a two and a half acre estate and with a
- 24:55Speaker 1: swimming pool and guesthouses in a boxing ring, and everybody
- 24:59Speaker 1: sat around the pine table, you know, you know, trying
- 25:02Speaker 1: to impress my father and drinking and talking smack.
- 25:06Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, yeah, you were. You were fairly early when
- 25:11Speaker 4: you figured out your dad drank a little bit correct.
- 25:16Speaker 1: Yes, yes, he taught me how to make him a
- 25:18Speaker 1: tequila sunrise. Yeah, when I was like nine or six
- 25:22Speaker 1: or something, very young.
- 25:23Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 25:23Speaker 4: Yeah, but there was a point at which it really
- 25:29Speaker 4: wasn't funny anymore, was it.
- 25:31Speaker 1: Yeah, No, that's right. I mean there was more than
- 25:34Speaker 1: one time where I woke up in the morning and
- 25:38Speaker 1: my father had torn up the house. I particularly remember,
- 25:42Speaker 1: like the the kitchen, went walking into the kitchen and
- 25:45Speaker 1: literally every pot pan, you know, dish, whatever everything was
- 25:51Speaker 1: in this was on the floor.
- 25:52Speaker 6: Of the kitchen.
- 25:54Speaker 4: I'm not excusing the behavior, but he had a very
- 25:58Speaker 4: difficult upbringing himself, did he not?
- 26:01Speaker 1: He did. My father grew up in his grandmother raised him,
- 26:07Speaker 1: and she was a madam in a brothel. His father
- 26:10Speaker 1: was a pimp, his mother was a sex worker, in
- 26:13Speaker 1: the brothel, and they were He was separated from her
- 26:17Speaker 1: when he was ten and his father, I mean, I
- 26:21Speaker 1: think a lot of people probably grew up around sex work,
- 26:23Speaker 1: and it's not necessarily the same experience that my father had.
- 26:26Speaker 1: But his father was incredibly violent and angry and terrifying
- 26:32Speaker 1: to my father, and so he grew up really afraid
- 26:36Speaker 1: and got attention by making the people around him laugh.
- 26:40Speaker 1: I mean the first story he told me about that
- 26:43Speaker 1: was slipping in dog poop, and you know, everybody cracked
- 26:48Speaker 1: up so hard that he kept doing it over and
- 26:51Speaker 1: over and over again, which is said, you know, says
- 26:53Speaker 1: all you need to know.
- 26:54Speaker 4: He was raised by his grandmother pretty much, was he not.
- 26:58Speaker 1: He was, and he loved her and feared her.
- 27:01Speaker 4: Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah uh. And you had a kind
- 27:06Speaker 4: of a different relationship with her too that you write
- 27:09Speaker 4: about speak fear.
- 27:14Speaker 1: Yeah, no, I she was a scary lady. I'm just
- 27:18Speaker 1: going to tell you that right now. Like there's a
- 27:20Speaker 1: reason why she was a boss lady who ran a business,
- 27:23Speaker 1: you know, profitable business. So but yeah, she also called
- 27:29Speaker 1: me the N word when I was little and and
- 27:32Speaker 1: I was expecting my father, who told me, don't let
- 27:36Speaker 1: nobody ever call you that to protect me and you know,
- 27:39Speaker 1: stick up for me. But he was so scared of Mama, yeah,
- 27:43Speaker 1: that he let her get away with doing it and
- 27:47Speaker 1: did whatever she told him to do, which is to
- 27:49Speaker 1: thank me, and he did.
- 27:53Speaker 15: It.
- 27:53Speaker 4: Is just a remarkable book. It's called something We said,
- 27:57Speaker 4: Richard Pryor a notorious word and Elizabeth, I really enjoyed
- 28:02Speaker 4: reading it. I really appreciate your time today.

- 31:29Speaker 21: Your face.
- 31:30Speaker 4: All right, welcome back on a Wednesday edition. We're joined
- 31:37Speaker 4: in studio by Scott clintenon Uh, there's a lot going on, uh,
- 31:42Speaker 4: and we will try to get to as much as
- 31:46Speaker 4: we can. But let's uh, let's start with college baseball
- 31:53Speaker 4: Omaha Scott Okay, and look at what's going on there,
- 31:58Speaker 4: what will go on there? I think last week you
- 32:04Speaker 4: thought Georgia was the best team left. They're certainly pounding
- 32:08Speaker 4: the baseball. Any chance that Mississippi State was the second
- 32:11Speaker 4: best team.
- 32:14Speaker 10: I don't think they were the second best team. Okay,
- 32:16Speaker 10: they played good baseball last weekend.
- 32:18Speaker 4: Well they hit it a ton.
- 32:19Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 32:19Speaker 10: Well, and you're also I don't think Omaha will play like.
- 32:28Speaker 2: Like that.
- 32:29Speaker 10: It doesn't Georgia. Yeah, I mean it's got legitimate. The
- 32:32Speaker 10: size is legitimate as opposed to really small, really small.
- 32:36Speaker 4: Okay, don't believes not as small as the Las Vegas
- 32:43Speaker 4: ballpark where eleven home runs were hit Monday night.
- 32:47Speaker 10: Yeah, they're playing all week there.
- 32:49Speaker 2: I didn't know that. Do they do they have to build?
- 32:52Speaker 4: To see last night?
- 32:53Speaker 2: What do they have to build a new ballpark?
- 32:55Speaker 4: They're in the process, But why exactly? I mean everyone's
- 33:00Speaker 4: talking about it. Yes, eleven eleven dingers. What happened last night?
- 33:05Speaker 4: I forgot to look. I did as well, Okay, Okay,
- 33:08Speaker 4: all right, going, but yeah, so yeah, that was fun.
- 33:12Speaker 4: And they are building a new ballpark and apparently the
- 33:15Speaker 4: dimensions in Las Vegas, and I know the air is
- 33:18Speaker 4: thinner and it's hotter, right, it's one hundred degrees. Has
- 33:20Speaker 4: been really hot there, so you know the ball is
- 33:23Speaker 4: going to carry. It's in Sacramento at night time, even
- 33:26Speaker 4: though that park they're playing in is relatively small, the
- 33:29Speaker 4: minor league park. And then they say the numbers are inflated.
- 33:33Speaker 4: But at nighttime, I know it cools down and it's
- 33:37Speaker 4: not as easy to get a ball out of the
- 33:39Speaker 4: ballpark as apparently it is in Las Vegas with thin
- 33:43Speaker 4: air and hot weather.
- 33:45Speaker 10: Okay, Well, the A's one, seven to five, all right,
- 33:48Speaker 10: the Brewers.
- 33:49Speaker 2: Game one home run. Okay, the A's hit one, two, three,
- 33:56Speaker 2: four five.
- 33:57Speaker 4: Five home runs in seven runs. Okay, there you go. Well,
- 34:02Speaker 4: the A's are comfortable at home. They've always been comfortable.
- 34:05Speaker 2: They've always they've been a great.
- 34:07Speaker 4: Home They've always been a good home team, a great
- 34:10Speaker 4: home team in Las Vegas. Apparently. Sure, so they may
- 34:14Speaker 4: go eighty one and o next year. I don't think
- 34:15Speaker 4: next year there's gonna be ready. Actually, I think they
- 34:17Speaker 4: have won more year in Saxon.
- 34:19Speaker 2: Yeah, I think i'd played more games in Las Vegas.
- 34:22Speaker 4: Yeah, no kidding.
- 34:23Speaker 2: Why are they they're undefeated?
- 34:24Speaker 10: I mean, why are they not going there to play
- 34:26Speaker 10: these games?
- 34:27Speaker 4: And I don't know the size of the park. Does
- 34:29Speaker 4: do you have the attendance on the box score there?
- 34:31Speaker 4: Because it my guess is it's more than they're they're
- 34:35Speaker 4: getting in Sacramento. I have seen those that when the
- 34:38Speaker 4: Rangers play there, it it looks pretty bleak.
- 34:41Speaker 2: I don't see.
- 34:42Speaker 4: Okay, that's fine. Uh, let's go back to the College
- 34:45Speaker 4: World Series Friday, Troy and West Virginia. I don't think
- 34:52Speaker 4: we necessarily saw that one coming all the West Virginia
- 34:54Speaker 4: was seated.
- 34:55Speaker 10: Right, but they were supposed to go to u C.
- 34:59Speaker 1: L A.
- 34:59Speaker 2: Yep, they and hadn't did not make it.
- 35:03Speaker 4: Didn't make it. And Ole Miss and North Carolina. I
- 35:11Speaker 4: watched that. I watched that North Carolina USC well. I
- 35:16Speaker 4: watched quite a bit of the series, and I certainly
- 35:18Speaker 4: watched the last three innings. I think the dramatic innings
- 35:21Speaker 4: of the of Game three. And North Carolina is is
- 35:27Speaker 4: seeded fifth and or is the second highest seed left
- 35:32Speaker 4: behind Georgia. Are they Are they the second best team
- 35:35Speaker 4: coming in?
- 35:36Speaker 10: I don't know if they're the second best team, but
- 35:38Speaker 10: I think they are going to be in the final.
- 35:42Speaker 2: Okay, you think they're the best team. I think they're
- 35:44Speaker 2: the best half half of the bracket.
- 35:46Speaker 4: Okay, yeah, it's an all secuh postseason in in the
- 35:51Speaker 4: other half of the bracket.
- 35:53Speaker 2: Exactly what the n C DOUA A didn't want to
- 35:55Speaker 2: have happened.
- 35:56Speaker 4: No, of course they wanted that to happen.
- 35:59Speaker 10: No, they're they're frightened that Ole Miss beats North Carolina. Yeah, yeah,
- 36:06Speaker 10: I guess they want SEC teams eliminating each other before
- 36:10Speaker 10: they get to the.
- 36:10Speaker 4: Well finally they they yeah, but they they screwed up
- 36:14Speaker 4: here because there is going to be a SEC team
- 36:17Speaker 4: in the final, at least one.
- 36:18Speaker 10: Well, they didn't expect Oklahoma to do this.
- 36:20Speaker 4: True, true, and and and I said this, and maybe
- 36:26Speaker 4: I'm wrong, but when when Oklahoma and and M played
- 36:29Speaker 4: early in the year. Is that thought that was the
- 36:31Speaker 4: first SEC series? Right? And and and owe you everybody's
- 36:35Speaker 4: just raving about their pitching. They had not given and
- 36:38Speaker 4: it may have to do with their early schedule. You know,
- 36:40Speaker 4: it's early in the season. I get it. Okay, obviously,
- 36:44Speaker 4: but man, they hit the cover off the ball in
- 36:47Speaker 4: the regionals.
- 36:48Speaker 10: Which they didn't do during the regular season. Right, And
- 36:51Speaker 10: this is where you go to when you get to
- 36:54Speaker 10: regional play, you're not going to see pitching any better
- 36:58Speaker 10: than what.
- 36:58Speaker 2: You saw in your confide.
- 37:00Speaker 10: Yes, and Oklahoma had been dominated their bats had been dominated.
- 37:04Speaker 4: By SEC pitch.
- 37:06Speaker 10: Yeah, and so they don't see SEC pitching. They get
- 37:10Speaker 10: themselves on a bit of a roll and they pound
- 37:12Speaker 10: their way to make it to Omaha. It's not the
- 37:18Speaker 10: first time that that had happened.
- 37:20Speaker 4: Yeah. And so you like Georgia and North Carolina in
- 37:26Speaker 4: the finals, yes, okay.
- 37:28Speaker 10: Now Texas has a pitcher they can shut down Georgia
- 37:31Speaker 10: in game one?
- 37:33Speaker 4: Correct? Correct?
- 37:34Speaker 10: Yeah, I don't know if Texas has gegi that can
- 37:40Speaker 10: shut down Georgia.
- 37:41Speaker 4: Georgia won two out of three against Texas this year.
- 37:44Speaker 4: I think I believe was that in Austin. I think
- 37:46Speaker 4: it was Austin it okay, and they took two out
- 37:49Speaker 4: of three.
- 37:49Speaker 2: And they took two out of three. They score a
- 37:51Speaker 2: lot of runs, medium, Okay, they put up runs.
- 37:56Speaker 4: Okay, Well, they've put up a lot of runs a
- 38:00Speaker 4: lot of different times, right, Yeah.
- 38:02Speaker 2: They hit ball good. Yeah, they do pats for bats.
- 38:07Speaker 4: Jackson is the catcher. Is he going to be the
- 38:09Speaker 4: Golden Spikes guy? Yes he is, yeah, yeah, what year
- 38:16Speaker 4: is he? He is a junior so he can come out.
- 38:19Speaker 10: Yeah, he's coming out a third round, second to third
- 38:22Speaker 10: round pick, which.
- 38:22Speaker 4: I still don't you don't understand.
- 38:24Speaker 10: It's not Grohovak not going in the first round.
- 38:27Speaker 4: Right.
- 38:27Speaker 2: What has Jackson got.
- 38:28Speaker 4: To do to be yes? Especially catching, right exactly? I
- 38:32Speaker 4: mean everybody needs catching, right, Yes, I mean put him
- 38:36Speaker 4: in the Rangers lineup tonight.
- 38:38Speaker 10: The latest mock draft that came out today had the
- 38:41Speaker 10: White Sox not tating, taking Chowalski from UCLA and going
- 38:45Speaker 10: catcher from Georgia Tech. So it's still a premium.
- 38:49Speaker 4: Position, that's yeah, but that's weird.
- 38:51Speaker 10: And Grohovac, who showed he can has positional flexibility.
- 38:55Speaker 4: Yeah you know, yeah, Okay, hey, somebody's somebody's gonna to steal.
- 39:00Speaker 4: Oh yeah. They are speaking of A and M and
- 39:05Speaker 4: major league while we think, well, I'm thinking about it.
- 39:08Speaker 4: Pretty good debut by Brady Montgomery last night in Chicago.
- 39:13Speaker 10: Just put smile on your face. I mean two years
- 39:16Speaker 10: in a day, I know you've.
- 39:17Speaker 4: Seen the video, but having how many family members and
- 39:21Speaker 4: friends he had there, that was really cool. That was
- 39:24Speaker 4: a very cool video to see them celebrating what he did.
- 39:28Speaker 4: And for those of you who don't know, you should
- 39:30Speaker 4: know by now. But Montgomery got his first major league
- 39:32Speaker 4: hit in his first major league game and then in
- 39:35Speaker 4: the ninth inning he walked it off with a home run,
- 39:38Speaker 4: only the fifth major league player since they started keeping
- 39:42Speaker 4: records in nineteen hundred in their debut to hit a
- 39:45Speaker 4: walk off home run. And he walked it off last
- 39:48Speaker 4: night in Chicago, and that had a lot of people
- 39:52Speaker 4: at that game.
- 39:52Speaker 10: Yeah, they did thirty five and thirty one. Now, Chip,
- 39:56Speaker 10: what would you like your team.
- 39:57Speaker 2: To be thirty five and thirty one.
- 39:59Speaker 10: I'd like my team to be thirty five thirty one. Yeah,
- 40:02Speaker 10: but two years in a day since he broke his leg.
- 40:06Speaker 4: Two years okay, wow, So that's hard to believe.
- 40:09Speaker 10: All four players in the trade now for Garrett Crochet
- 40:14Speaker 10: have made the majors that the Red Sox gave up.
- 40:17Speaker 4: Okay, well, pretty good trade. Then, it is a.
- 40:21Speaker 2: Pretty good trade.
- 40:23Speaker 10: You normally don't see four for four, right, and Crochet
- 40:27Speaker 10: has been really good. But the Red Sox have not
- 40:29Speaker 10: done anything.
- 40:30Speaker 4: They haven't. No, they haven't. So so what right now?
- 40:35Speaker 4: Where the Red Sox are one player for four major
- 40:37Speaker 4: league players? Not so good right because they need players.
- 40:41Speaker 2: Yes, they do need players.
- 40:42Speaker 4: Okay, we're going to take a break. We've got a
- 40:45Speaker 4: lot to get to between for the next forty five
- 40:48Speaker 4: minutes or so. Mallory is here tomorrow, Jared is in,
- 40:53Speaker 4: and I think Jason is in if he's not, Washington,
- 40:56Speaker 4: DC hobnobbing, and then Ryan is in Friday. We're back
- 41:00Speaker 4: on Monday with the writers round table and all the
- 41:03Speaker 4: weekend events. And maybe there'll be uh more gambling allegations
- 41:09Speaker 4: or more court stuff by Monday. I doubt it, but
- 41:13Speaker 4: maybe all right. Astro's report is brought to you by

- 41:51Speaker 22: Lame Jim Nelson with your Houston Astro's reports. The Angel's
- 41:55Speaker 22: offense was too much to handle last night and the
- 41:57Speaker 22: rubber match will determine the series. Details coming up next.
- 42:04Speaker 23: Texas isn't just a place, it's a feeling a kind
- 42:08Speaker 23: way from a neighbor, sharing a plate of barbecue or
- 42:12Speaker 23: celebrating a big win on the football field. That's the
- 42:16Speaker 23: way we treat each other on and off the road.
- 42:21Speaker 23: So every time you drive, drive like a Texan, kind, courteous,

- 42:32Speaker 22: The Houston Astros fell behind early and often last night
- 42:35Speaker 22: against the Los Angeles Angels, as the series comes down
- 42:38Speaker 22: to the rubber match. Tonight final score was ten to one.
- 42:41Speaker 22: Kaiawaitang got the start for Houston and had to take
- 42:44Speaker 22: this outing on the chin as he allowed five runs
- 42:47Speaker 22: on seven hits with three walks through four innings. The
- 42:50Speaker 22: Halos used unconventional methods to score twice in the bottom first,
- 42:54Speaker 22: and then power came in the second. It's back to
- 42:56Speaker 22: back two RBI doubles put the Angels up six to nothing,
- 42:59Speaker 22: eventually seven to nothing by the innings end. While Bryce
- 43:02Speaker 22: Matthews was able to end the shutout for the Astros
- 43:05Speaker 22: in the seventh, nothing else seemed to go right for Houston.
- 43:07Speaker 22: On the bright side, the Astros can still take the
- 43:10Speaker 22: series with Game three tonight. Peter Lambert takes the mound
- 43:12Speaker 22: for Houston. First pitches set for eight thirty eight tonight

- 45:23Speaker 11: I did ride.

- 45:31Speaker 4: It is all Willie Wednesday. We thank you for being
- 45:33Speaker 4: with us. Scott. Clinton is with us as he is
- 45:36Speaker 4: on most Wednesdays. Scott, there's so much moral outrage the
- 45:44Speaker 4: last twenty four hours, and and you know, moral outrage
- 45:51Speaker 4: is a funny thing because for me, if you're going
- 45:55Speaker 4: to be outraged about something, you your house probably has
- 46:01Speaker 4: to be in order as well. At least that's always
- 46:05Speaker 4: been my opinion, because you get heard more if you
- 46:09Speaker 4: are in a situation where you're kind of above reproach
- 46:14Speaker 4: and people know that your character and they you know,
- 46:17Speaker 4: they know when you speak out against something that it
- 46:20Speaker 4: must be really bad, and boy, that needs to change
- 46:24Speaker 4: if we're speaking out against it. My big issue with
- 46:27Speaker 4: this is not that the judge is something stupid. He
- 46:31Speaker 4: did and allow this kid to play. I get it.
- 46:36Speaker 4: He will win his appeal unless the four Texas Tech
- 46:41Speaker 4: judges have so much scrutiny that a couple of them
- 46:45Speaker 4: vote against him. I don't think that'll happen, but we'll see,
- 46:48Speaker 4: you know, in the situation with appeals. But in my mind,
- 46:54Speaker 4: the system is so broken, it's so wrong. And the
- 46:57Speaker 4: teams that aren't going to play Texas Tech, I know
- 47:00Speaker 4: they've never called a player who has already committed or
- 47:04Speaker 4: even on campus for another team. I know they've never
- 47:08Speaker 4: sat on somebody's bench next to a game that's going
- 47:12Speaker 4: on and whispered in the ear of a player, Hey,
- 47:14Speaker 4: we need you at our school. I'm sure all of
- 47:17Speaker 4: these teams that are morally outraged that aren't going to
- 47:20Speaker 4: play Texas Tech in any sports for that from now
- 47:24Speaker 4: until the future, there's no more college sports. I know
- 47:28Speaker 4: they've done all things right aside from what I've said,
- 47:34Speaker 4: why should we be a surprised be morally outraged at
- 47:41Speaker 4: this decision that's been rendered on behalf of the quarterback
- 47:45Speaker 4: in lubbook.
- 47:46Speaker 10: It drove me to literature. Chip Okay, God saved the
- 47:51Speaker 10: ancient mariner from the fiends that plagued thee. Thus why
- 47:55Speaker 10: look as thou so with my crossbow, I shot the
- 47:58Speaker 10: albatross and then it goes on. Later, water water everywhere,
- 48:03Speaker 10: all the boards to drink water, water everywhere, and Norah
- 48:06Speaker 10: dropped to drink ah. Well's a day that evil looks
- 48:10Speaker 10: had I from young and old. Instead of across the
- 48:14Speaker 10: albatross was hung around my neck, was hung People don't
- 48:18Speaker 10: understand that the albatross was good and not bad. And
- 48:23Speaker 10: after you killed it, then you had to live with
- 48:26Speaker 10: the albatross around your neck. College sports has been terrific.
- 48:30Speaker 10: I'm not saying it didn't have problems, okay, but what
- 48:34Speaker 10: you have done, what Tennessee judges did, what California judges
- 48:42Speaker 10: are seeing now with another lawsuit about the the this
- 48:47Speaker 10: this name image likeness.
- 48:50Speaker 2: What's happened in Lubbock.
- 48:53Speaker 10: For everything that was bad about the NC double A,
- 48:56Speaker 10: there was a general following of the rules. Generally speaking,
- 49:02Speaker 10: they had some ability to enforce.
- 49:04Speaker 4: Some little like the Ten Commandments right in that there
- 49:08Speaker 4: is structure. That doesn't mean it's always followed, but the
- 49:13Speaker 4: structure exists. It's like out here, okay, I'm watching cars
- 49:18Speaker 4: go by right at seventy miles an hour in one
- 49:22Speaker 4: lane and a half construction where it's sixty, and they're
- 49:25Speaker 4: pushing the envelope and always the envelope is going to
- 49:29Speaker 4: be pushed and a lot of times it's going to
- 49:31Speaker 4: be broken because that's the nature. And if somebody cheats
- 49:34Speaker 4: really well, somebody's got to figure out it way to
- 49:36Speaker 4: cheat even better.
- 49:38Speaker 2: But what about the people are driving sixty?
- 49:39Speaker 4: Some people are by driving sixty into biding and like
- 49:42Speaker 4: me on the way up here, this afternoon, get run over.
- 49:46Speaker 10: Exactly, So move over. Some people do try to follow that.
- 49:51Speaker 10: There's a few okay, and certain when there's no rules
- 49:55Speaker 10: to follow like structure and no structure. Yes, it's all legal, okay,
- 50:01Speaker 10: this is the autobond. And not to not too quol
- 50:04Speaker 10: this is the German autobond. You drive whatever speed you
- 50:07Speaker 10: want to.
- 50:07Speaker 4: Go, not yes, and and not to quote date Oats
- 50:11Speaker 4: as a paragot of virtue.
- 50:13Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, I'm not.
- 50:16Speaker 4: He just said these are the rules. And he was
- 50:18Speaker 4: right at the time. Right, he was right at the time.
- 50:22Speaker 2: I'm not saying his interpretation was that that's the rule.
- 50:27Speaker 10: That's fine, okay, yes, because we didn't know because we
- 50:30Speaker 10: know what the rule was and still.
- 50:31Speaker 4: Anymore, and we don't know what the rules are. And gambling,
- 50:35Speaker 4: which is apparently the worst thing you can do, okay.
- 50:40Speaker 2: And speaks it. It goes to the heart of fair
- 50:44Speaker 2: and honest competition. I get it.
- 50:47Speaker 4: I mean, trust me, I get it.
- 50:49Speaker 10: These kids that these kids that have just been kicked
- 50:52Speaker 10: out of college basketball because they shave points need to
- 50:56Speaker 10: get a lawyer.
- 50:57Speaker 4: No, no question. And but but the the thing that
- 51:00Speaker 4: I said yesterday Scott is going back to the teams
- 51:05Speaker 4: that are morally outraged and aren't going to play Texas
- 51:08Speaker 4: Tech anymore. Now, I'm not saying that's right or wrong.
- 51:09Speaker 4: That's fine, that's their choice. I'd love to see a
- 51:12Speaker 4: president and not an athletic director speak up to this.
- 51:16Speaker 4: I would love that that would be I think would
- 51:19Speaker 4: carry a little more weight. Probably not anymore, but maybe
- 51:21Speaker 4: a little. It's like, you better check your athletes in
- 51:28Speaker 4: your school and see how many of them are betting,
- 51:33Speaker 4: not five thousand times, not on events across the world.
- 51:37Speaker 4: This kid has a serious addiction. Okay, it is a
- 51:41Speaker 4: diseased addiction that thirty days ain't going to cure. Okay,
- 51:45Speaker 4: but how many what percentage of college athletes do you
- 51:51Speaker 4: think have gotten on their phone line after seeing commercial
- 51:56Speaker 4: after commercial after commercial on the sports that they're why
- 52:00Speaker 4: on ESPN and going hey in two clicks, I can
- 52:04Speaker 4: put five dollars on the next tonight or whatever.
- 52:06Speaker 10: Right, But I will say chip that the compliance departments
- 52:12Speaker 10: at NCAA schools send you email after email saying you
- 52:20Speaker 10: cannot bet.
- 52:21Speaker 4: I get that, but that's like it's just all an
- 52:24Speaker 4: hour speedle of it.
- 52:25Speaker 10: But if you're driving seventy five and you get pulled
- 52:29Speaker 10: over and skoyt Clinden and gives the name Chip Howard
- 52:33Speaker 10: to the police officer, which is what Brennan Soresby did
- 52:38Speaker 10: at Indiana, at Cincinnati and at Texas Tech because he
- 52:42Speaker 10: knew he was caught and he knew he broke the
- 52:46Speaker 10: rules and broke the law, and is like, well, I'm
- 52:50Speaker 10: betting through somebody else. I'm placing this under somebody else's names.
- 52:54Speaker 10: There's other things here that are not just his addiction.
- 52:57Speaker 2: Okay, Oh, I'm not saying.
- 53:00Speaker 4: He should ever played college football again. I don't know
- 53:02Speaker 4: what you miss.
- 53:03Speaker 10: What I'm saying is, but as I spoke to the
- 53:06Speaker 10: rhyme of the ancient Mariner, Yes, okay, the chairman of
- 53:10Speaker 10: the Border Regions of Texas Tech and their biggest booster
- 53:14Speaker 10: is the Mariner.
- 53:16Speaker 4: No doubt, and the other people because he runs the
- 53:21Speaker 4: program and because he signs the checks, his name are
- 53:24Speaker 4: on the checks. Right, the president of the university ain't
- 53:26Speaker 4: gonna come out and say, that's Noad. We made a mistake.
- 53:29Speaker 4: You know, we're suspending him. We were wrong. He can't
- 53:32Speaker 4: do that because then the money drives up. Right, there's
- 53:36Speaker 4: no more checks millions, there's no more money. Yes, so
- 53:40Speaker 4: that's one case. Okay, I'm not saying there aren't others.
- 53:43Speaker 4: There are others. And I've said this before. Cody Campbell
- 53:49Speaker 4: felt bulletproof enough or for whatever reason he doesn't. He
- 53:53Speaker 4: is the face of the university and he doesn't mind
- 53:55Speaker 4: being shot at.
- 53:56Speaker 10: Right, But he also said he was the face of
- 53:58Speaker 10: fairness in college.
- 54:00Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, I saw all of that, and that's garbage, right,
- 54:03Speaker 4: that's that's.
- 54:03Speaker 2: That was all about Texas Tech.
- 54:05Speaker 4: Yeah, of course it is. But but my point is
- 54:08Speaker 4: there there are other Texas Tech like people running their universities, right,
- 54:14Speaker 4: And that's a big reason why we haven't heard from
- 54:16Speaker 4: the presidents for the same reason because they know, Hey,
- 54:19Speaker 4: if we come out and and go against like Joe Bob,
- 54:23Speaker 4: who's just given US seven million dollars to buy a
- 54:26Speaker 4: new quarterback, Joe Bob ain't gonna write that check anymore.
- 54:29Speaker 4: So I'm gonna keep my mouth shut. I'll let the
- 54:31Speaker 4: a D handle it.
- 54:32Speaker 10: And Vanderbilt the just what I'm saying, Vanderbilt did it
- 54:38Speaker 10: for their quarterback.
- 54:39Speaker 2: Vanderbilt, which is raised.
- 54:41Speaker 4: As a paragon.
- 54:43Speaker 10: A parragon university. The athletics have always been secondary to
- 54:47Speaker 10: the academic correct.
- 54:49Speaker 4: Okay, but they got a taste of what big time
- 54:51Speaker 4: is now they like it.
- 54:53Speaker 2: They have they like it all of everybody does.
- 54:55Speaker 4: But that's absolutely everybody.
- 54:57Speaker 2: Like what I'm saying is even though it.
- 55:00Speaker 4: Coach Elko is right, Yes, he goes, we're all in
- 55:03Speaker 4: it for ourselves.
- 55:04Speaker 2: Yes, and you can.
- 55:05Speaker 4: Everyone's in it for ourselves.
- 55:07Speaker 10: And the NC double A was created by everyone. They
- 55:12Speaker 10: were not the one that was saying this is bad.
- 55:16Speaker 10: You voted on all those rules. That's why the rule.
- 55:18Speaker 2: Book was so thick and so stupid.
- 55:21Speaker 10: Okay, it had I It's like me said Roger Clemits
- 55:25Speaker 10: needs to be in the Hall of Fame. Let me,
- 55:27Speaker 10: the NC double A wasn't all bad. And now we
- 55:29Speaker 10: see what happens. I mean, there is.
- 55:32Speaker 2: No structure, let me, no rules.
- 55:35Speaker 4: This has gotten so bad we're we're advocating partially for
- 55:40Speaker 4: the NC double A. That's how bad things are in
- 55:42Speaker 4: college athletics right now. Yes, Now, can this lead to something?
- 55:49Speaker 4: I'm still skeptical. I don't think so.
- 55:52Speaker 10: The chip, the commissioner of the Big Twelve, needs to
- 55:57Speaker 10: say he can't play, just like the commissioner of the
- 56:01Speaker 10: SEC should have said. The kid at Alabama couldn't play basketball, or.
- 56:06Speaker 4: How about this. The CFP has more power than the
- 56:10Speaker 4: NC Double A and the CFP. I'm just saying, the
- 56:14Speaker 4: CFC can come out right now and say, Hey, any
- 56:18Speaker 4: team that Texas Tech plays this year in football, they're
- 56:22Speaker 4: not going to be in the CFP.
- 56:24Speaker 10: And Tech is not gonna be in the CFL. And
- 56:26Speaker 10: Tech ain't either because it's ours. Yeah, and they'll get sued.
- 56:31Speaker 4: Well, but that's okay. I'm tired of people not making
- 56:35Speaker 4: the right choices because they're afraid of the courts.
- 56:38Speaker 10: I'm tired of the court saying we're granting this injunction
- 56:43Speaker 10: and then we're going to have the trial after his eligibilities.
- 56:46Speaker 4: I don't think you're going to see an end of
- 56:47Speaker 4: that anytime soon. Everyone has chip.
- 56:50Speaker 2: It's happened here, Texas A.
- 56:52Speaker 4: And N has happened here. Everyone has a judge. Everyone
- 56:55Speaker 4: has a judge.
- 56:56Speaker 10: Okay before judges. The NC double are actually good at
- 57:01Speaker 10: some of this stuff. Some of it makes me weird
- 57:04Speaker 10: to say that.
- 57:04Speaker 4: That is weird, man, That is how bad it is. Hey,
- 57:08Speaker 4: David Gardner's Jewelers is open right now until six o'clock
