- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn Spanish with Fexingo! I'm Lucas, and with me as always is the wonderful Luna. Luna: Hey everyone! Ready for episode 91? I've been practicing, but I still get lost sometimes — literally. Lucas: That's perfect because today we're learning how to ask for directions in a park in Spanish. Very useful for a sunny day. Luna: Oh, I love that! So first, how do you ask where the park is? Lucas: You say: ¿Dónde está el parque? Let me say it slowly: ¿Dónde está el parque? And now at normal speed: ¿Dónde está el parque? Luna: ¿Dónde está el parque?... ¿Dónde está el parque? That's pretty straightforward! Lucas: Exactly. And if someone tells you it's close by, they'd say: Está cerca de aquí. Say it with me: Está cerca de aquí. Luna: Está cerca de aquí. So if I'm looking for a bench, I might ask: ¿Hay un banco? Lucas: Yes! ¿Hay un banco? means 'Is there a bench?' Very handy. And the answer might be: Sigue recto — keep going straight. Luna: Sigue recto. And then maybe: Está a la derecha or Está a la izquierda — on the right or left. Lucas: Perfect. So let's put it all together. Imagine you're in a park and you want to find a bench. Ask Luna: ¿Dónde está el parque? Luna: Wait, I thought we were already in the park. But okay — ¿Dónde está el parque? Lucas: Oh right, we're in the park! So you might ask: ¿Hay un banco? And I'd say: Está cerca de aquí. Sigue recto y está a la derecha. Luna: So: Sigue recto y está a la derecha. That means go straight and it's on the right. Got it. Lucas: Exactly. Now let's practice a mini dialogue. I'll be a friendly local. You ask me where the park is. Luna: Okay. Disculpe, ¿dónde está el parque? Lucas: Está cerca de aquí. Sigue recto dos cuadras y está a la izquierda. Luna: Ah, so 'dos cuadras' means two blocks. That's helpful. Sigue recto dos cuadras y está a la izquierda. Lucas: You're a natural. Now let's do the reverse. You give me directions to a bench. Luna: Okay. ¿Hay un banco?... Sigue recto y está a la derecha. Lucas: Perfect! You just used three of our phrases naturally. Feels good, right? Luna: Yeah! Luna: Está cerca de aquí. Third: ¿Hay un banco? Lucas: ¿Hay un banco? Fourth: Sigue recto. Luna: Sigue recto. Fifth: Está a la derecha. Lucas: Está a la derecha. And last: Está a la izquierda. Luna: Está a la izquierda. I feel ready to navigate any park now. Lucas: That's the goal! Practice these with a friend, or just talk to yourself on a walk. Repetition is key.
