- 0:06[SPEAKER_01]: Head though, welcome to the MMQB NFL podcast.
- 0:09[SPEAKER_01]: I'm founder of that to Albert Brear and if our voice is sound horse, because to NFL season has begun, we had a great watch party yesterday.
- 0:18[SPEAKER_01]: Thanks to all of you who came out and spent the first quarter with us a little bit of the preamble of it, and then we got to watch.
- 0:24[SPEAKER_01]: C-Hox Patriots 2, 1310, a very strange game, one that Drake may throw away and we'll break that down in a second but Albert, I'll just tell you this.
- 0:35[SPEAKER_01]: Props to our producer can't this is how I knew the football season was back and there Always different indicators the leaves are changing everything like that Eli Rared and scores the first touchdown of the NFL season and Kent hits us on text and says bang Eli Rared in any time touchdown hit and I was like, yes, there is just that sicko mentality
- 0:59[SPEAKER_01]: And I felt like, oh, my felt like I got wrapped in a warm blanket on that one.
- 1:03[SPEAKER_01]: So good for Kent when in a couple bucks there.
- 1:05[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, there you go.
- 1:07[SPEAKER_00]: There you go.
- 1:09[SPEAKER_00]: And it was strange.
- 1:11[SPEAKER_00]: It was like, honestly, to me,
- 1:14[SPEAKER_00]: the definition of the week one is a liar type thing like it's like I have a hard time taking a lot from a game and we are going to take plenty don't get me wrong, but I have a hard time taking a lot from a game where Sam Darnell was hurt, where AJ Brown was hurt, where the Seahawks secondary was a mash unit like without Nick even worry, without Tio Kada.
- 1:40[SPEAKER_00]: without Kobe Bryant and and and and Trico and who left in the off season.
- 1:45[SPEAKER_00]: So I would just put that caveat and everything we're about to say is that everything happens in week one.
- 1:55[SPEAKER_00]: you have to take with a grain of salt because a lot of it's going to wind up being a mirage.
- 1:59[SPEAKER_01]: So we're operating under the assumption what Mike McDonald said last night, which is that the news is encouraging, but reports as we're taping this in the morning are not ruling out the possibility of a short term stint on the IR for Donald, right?
- 2:16[SPEAKER_00]: Like I think that's in the rage of out here.
- 2:19[SPEAKER_00]: But when we saw it, I mean, all that means this is gonna be out of months, which seems to me, like a much better result than what we were contemplating when he went down.
- 2:29[SPEAKER_00]: And my God, the amount of Twitter diagnosis is there where I saw PC times and I mean, it was just someone then when it was announced, it was a hip.
- 2:41[SPEAKER_00]: Like one of the doctors then listed like nine different like hip injuries.
- 2:45[SPEAKER_00]: It was like, thanks, buddy, I appreciate it.
- 2:48[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know, I think it's um
- 2:52[SPEAKER_00]: The Twitter diagnosis are a little out of control.
- 2:56[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that was a gel.
- 2:59[SPEAKER_01]: It's week one, so everyone's shot out of the cannon, right?
- 3:03[SPEAKER_01]: We predicted it.
- 3:04[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I don't know how many things he knocked over in his house to get to the phone and start just blabbering on about Sam Darnell fracturing his hip.
- 3:15[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, it was, I don't know what you need
- 3:21[SPEAKER_01]: The fake 49ers receiver just kept saying he was a 49ers receiver and so everyone believed him is that the same with a lot of Twitter doctors were like I could just rebrand and be like, yeah, no, I'm an MD and here's what I think about AJ Brown's ankle, it's it should be sought off.
- 3:38[SPEAKER_01]: It should be severed, you know, like I like what play to my able to to do that.
- 3:52[SPEAKER_01]: All right, let's start though with Sam Darnall because I I feel like I'm I'm calling it out.
- 3:59[SPEAKER_01]: I feel like I fell into the week one over reaction trap, but just in this way If Sam Darnall played 17 really good games this year he becomes a 65 to 70 million dollar a year player
- 4:13[SPEAKER_01]: there's just, there's no way around that, right?
- 4:15[SPEAKER_01]: He's on the, the best deal of a contract that's not a rookie QB deal in the NFL right now.
- 4:22[SPEAKER_01]: He was making about the same as Baker may field now, Baker may field is in, in the call to sack of elite quarterbacks in terms of finances.
- 4:29[SPEAKER_01]: So,
- 4:31[SPEAKER_01]: it's an interesting time for John Schneider because John Schneider watched the legion of boom kind of peed her out and a lot of it had to do with the allocation of finances and power right where are you spending your money and who are you trusting to lead the team and maybe taking away some of the gas from that defense and handing it to Russell Wilson was a mistake not
- 5:01[SPEAKER_01]: and the seawks don't lose a game.
- 5:03[SPEAKER_01]: And Drew Locke plays half decent football.
- 5:06[SPEAKER_01]: That's something that, again, stamped Arnold's better than Drew Locke.
- 5:09[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not saying that there's a QB competition, but I think that's useful information for John Schneider, is it not?
- 5:16[SPEAKER_00]: I, I, I, I had an interesting conversation with him at the honors, being a did a story about this, like where, you know, I asked him what he learned from the lesion of boom era that he was going to apply now.
- 5:27[SPEAKER_00]: And his answer was more or less, like, I do it, we just have to, you know, be more.
- 5:34[SPEAKER_00]: Judicious about the decisions we make on contracts and like we have to really be intentional about how we identify our core and I think you sought this off season they've done four contracts for core players this calendar year long Charles cross during the playoffs last year Jackson Smith and J. button March.
- 6:03[SPEAKER_00]: they'll just start letting us start in corn ago and they let the sewerble on VP go.
- 6:07[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so like I do think there is a conscious effort to do this a little bit differently than they have in the past and to say, what can we do without?
- 6:18[SPEAKER_00]: I just don't know as well as Sam Darrell's play as much as he means that team that they're gonna be in that position where it's like we can do without him.
- 6:28[SPEAKER_00]: Now the same way Baker may feel it's set the table
- 6:32[SPEAKER_00]: Um, a year ago, right, like, where two years ago, Mayfield did, I think it was what 100 over three and then Darnell was like 105 over 3 or 110 over 3 the next year, um, Mayfield does, I think Baker did kind of like set a path there.
- 6:49[SPEAKER_00]: where, you know, like, if Sam Darnell winds up being really good again, but doesn't like elevate to top five quarter back, he stays where he is, maybe they make a playoff run, but they don't make it to the Super Bowl, then like I think you've got a nice little area where Sam would be slotted.
- 7:09[SPEAKER_00]: If they went another Super Bowl obviously we could be talking about something else, but yeah, of course, all of this could affect How how they look at it and how well drew lock plays and it's I guess that whole baseball thing right the war the wins over replacement like they're going to get a real look at that over the next month it sounds like
- 7:27[SPEAKER_01]: I'll give Lock Credit.
- 7:30[SPEAKER_01]: He played really well, especially when the Seahawks were in their heavier personnel sets.
- 7:36[SPEAKER_01]: Brian Flurry did a nice job.
- 7:37[SPEAKER_01]: I think allowing him to throw in early down sometimes and Lock kept him ahead of the sticks.
- 7:44[SPEAKER_01]: It wasn't spectacular, but I think you and I've watched enough football where
- 7:48[SPEAKER_01]: You know, on a Sunday afternoon, you know, back when he was with the giants, all of a sudden he makes the fourth quarter of a game very interesting and you know that it's not sustainable for a long term, but he has that in him.
- 8:00[SPEAKER_01]: He has that gear in him and I thought he played well in a difficult spot there.
- 8:06[SPEAKER_01]: It's not like Lock was getting all these first team reps in the offseason, you know what I mean?
- 8:09[SPEAKER_00]: what I liked about the way walk played as he got better as the game went on.
- 8:13[SPEAKER_01]: It was really making it first.
- 8:15[SPEAKER_00]: It looked really shaky at first and it looked like God they can't get out of their own way and again like you said they got a first time play collar so that's part of the equation.
- 8:25[SPEAKER_00]: I thought they really settled in the second half.
- 8:28[SPEAKER_00]: You know, there are little things like, I don't know why we didn't see more of jdary in price.
- 8:32[SPEAKER_00]: So I thought, look, it's really good.
- 8:34[SPEAKER_00]: Like I was like, man, they really have something here and felt pretty good about my office for a year, the earpick there.
- 8:41[SPEAKER_00]: So there were little things that you didn't, okay, like, where was that?
- 8:45[SPEAKER_00]: But I, I, I, I look overall at like, they didn't really unlock she-he'd last night.
- 8:51[SPEAKER_00]: Mm-hmm.
- 8:52[SPEAKER_00]: plays, they did a good job of getting the job, the ball to JSN, which they did a better job of that last night, but they did in the Super Bowl.
- 8:56[SPEAKER_00]: Barner was a factor.
- 8:57[SPEAKER_00]: Look, I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-
- 9:03[SPEAKER_00]: That's a good offensive group.
- 9:05[SPEAKER_00]: And I think watching things over the course of that game, like if you watch just what it looks like in the second quarter versus the third quarter versus the fourth quarter, outside of the delay game, which really could have cost them, I thought they were getting better over the course of the day, which would give you hope that now week two against Arizona, you take another slice set.
- 9:28[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 9:30[SPEAKER_01]: It's an uncomfortable position.
- 9:32[SPEAKER_01]: I hate being in this spot because I think all along, we knew that Sam Darnell was talented, but was just a victim of several different circumstances.
- 9:42[SPEAKER_01]: But I think for the world at large, lock having a good second half,
- 9:48[SPEAKER_01]: You go into the Arizona game.
- 9:51[SPEAKER_01]: This team's, you can FedEx them to 2 and 0 at this point, right?
- 9:56[SPEAKER_01]: It does, it does just complicate the situation a little bit, right?
- 10:01[SPEAKER_01]: It just, it just, it leaves that lingering doubt.
- 10:05[SPEAKER_01]: And if you're the GM, you're saying, okay, I'm a, yeah.
- 10:09[SPEAKER_01]: you know, if the Lamar deal gets done before this, like I got to get close to 70 million for this guy, or do I take all that money and just keep feeding that furnace, which is this defense, because that's the other thing Albert, right?
- 10:21[SPEAKER_01]: This is what I thought may have been the truce compliment.
- 10:25[SPEAKER_01]: two John Schneider and to Mike McDonald.
- 10:28[SPEAKER_01]: Josh McDaniels walked into that game knowing that this was one of the best defensive lines in football.
- 10:34[SPEAKER_01]: What he didn't know was how good the back end was going to perform when you're missing four starters from the Super Bowl.
- 10:41[SPEAKER_01]: He chose to continually test one of the best defensive lines in football out of fear of what existed on the other side
- 10:55[SPEAKER_01]: McDaniels turned out to be kind of prophetic in that, right?
- 10:57[SPEAKER_01]: Because when May had to drop back and Romeo Dobbs looked a little lost, I don't think he quite has his rhythm in this offense yet, but when May dropped back, he, he, it was a hall of mirrors back there again.
- 11:09[SPEAKER_01]: It, it looked like the Super Bowl.
- 11:11[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, well, I mean, it's interesting too and this is kind of like a different topic, maybe another topic for another day, but neither of these teams played their starters at all in the preseason and you do wonder if that had an effect just in the handling of some of the game situations, you know, I.
- 11:28[SPEAKER_00]: I have some concern with May right now.
- 11:31[SPEAKER_00]: I wouldn't say it's like overarching concern, but like I look at it like it's hard not to look at their schedule last year.
- 11:40[SPEAKER_00]: And then juxtapose that with what he faced in the playoffs.
- 11:43[SPEAKER_00]: And then he has the turnover issue in the playoffs, the negative play issue in the playoffs.
- 11:47[SPEAKER_00]: And now here we are again with another of that level of opponent in your scene again.
- 11:53[SPEAKER_00]: And I mean, you just like look at like where they were in the regular season versus okay.
- 11:57[SPEAKER_00]: Jesse Mentor and the Chargers in the wild card ground, Matt Burke to make a rise in the Texans in the divisional round.
- 12:04[SPEAKER_00]: Bands Joseph and the Broncos in the championship game, and then McDonald dirt a Seahawks in the Super Bowl, and then that group again here, I think it's
- 12:17[SPEAKER_00]: It's a good reminder that quarterback development isn't always linear, because I think with the four guys that we would look at is kind of like the torchbearers of this era, Lamar, Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes, Joe Burrow.
- 12:33[SPEAKER_00]: With those four guys, it really has outside of the injuries kind of been linear, right?
- 12:38[SPEAKER_00]: It's like they got really good fast, they stayed really good, and they kept like climbing.
- 12:44[SPEAKER_00]: And this is another reminder, C.J.
- 12:47[SPEAKER_00]: or Stroud two years ago, Jaden Daniels last year, that one great year doesn't make a career.
- 12:53[SPEAKER_00]: And that sometimes circumstances can play into you playing really well one year.
- 12:58[SPEAKER_00]: And then the next year, maybe you show your lack of experience, your age, a little bit when those circumstances change.
- 13:07[SPEAKER_01]: I...
- 13:08[SPEAKER_01]: we can talk a lot about narratives that can get out of control and like we said with Donald, right?
- 13:16[SPEAKER_01]: We're always, you know, I guess his humans wired to anticipate the worst case scenario and it's like, okay, what if lock plays well, what if what if what if what if on the flip side of that Albert, like you said, the may thing and the schedule thing.
- 13:31[SPEAKER_01]: and having him have his two worst games and his only two three interception games against the best defense in the NFL.
- 13:40[SPEAKER_01]: That's one where you wonder if that gets out of control, right?
- 13:44[SPEAKER_01]: Where all of a sudden are we holding up May and his performances against elite defenses and saying, okay, you know, how significant was the schedule thing last year?
- 13:58[SPEAKER_01]: You know what I mean?
- 14:01[SPEAKER_01]: And it's not just Seattle this week, Pittsburgh isn't what it was, but that's still a good defense.
- 14:06[SPEAKER_01]: Jacksonville led the league, or I think the second in the league enforcing turnovers after that.
- 14:12[SPEAKER_01]: And then Buffalo and Jimmy Leonard, I think that's going to be a much different look.
- 14:17[SPEAKER_01]: then he saw last year and could be a little bit more of a weaponized version of that bill's defense and that's something that can get out of control for me and again you don't want to fall into the trap of the overreaction I'm sure Drake may not find but you do think about that a little bit right here's the other part right like the other part is
- 14:36[SPEAKER_00]: So, Jaden Daniels and Cliff Kingsbury took the league by storm in 24 and nobody had any tape on what that was going to look like.
- 14:45[SPEAKER_00]: Nobody had any idea what that, what that, what they might be able to do.
- 14:50[SPEAKER_00]: That was phenomenal, great.
- 14:52[SPEAKER_00]: And then the next year, now everybody's got some tape and yes, you got hurt, so I'm not ignoring that.
- 14:58[SPEAKER_00]: But once everybody had tape, it was a different story.
- 15:05[SPEAKER_00]: to CJ Strauss for his two years and you know like you now have one of the best offensive minds in football and Josh McDaniels who last year had the opportunity to work with the quarterback that he's like unlike anyone he's ever had before, stylistically right like I'm not saying Drake's better than Tom Brady or anything like that, but stylistically he really hadn't had a guy like this.
- 15:28[SPEAKER_00]: Okay so like what does this look like now?
- 15:31[SPEAKER_00]: And you do have to sum degree, this is an oversimplicated simplification, but you do have the element of surprise to sum degree.
- 15:38[SPEAKER_00]: And here's the thing, Connor.
- 15:41[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I brought this up on Columbus radio actually earlier today.
- 15:44[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm just radio on this radio, my buddy Bobby Carbender.
- 15:48[SPEAKER_00]: But I brought it up with those guys and I said, like, I remember watching Justin Fields in college when he was throwing a Jackson Spithon Jake, but in James and Williams and Chris O'Lave and Garrett Wilson, right?
- 16:00[SPEAKER_00]: Like, and so he has this group of receivers like, and everything looks like it was fast.
- 16:05[SPEAKER_00]: The ball was coming out quick and he was making all these unbelievable
- 16:11[SPEAKER_00]: you know, that there were a couple games in there where it looked like I for somebody's just didn't look like himself and I kind of just chalk it up to like us just a bad game.
- 16:19[SPEAKER_00]: You know, it just didn't go the way that they they they they'd hoped it would.
- 16:23[SPEAKER_00]: And then, like you start to see like that North Western game that they played, where Papthus Geralt really kind of made Justin hold the ball.
- 16:33[SPEAKER_00]: And now it doesn't look like he's seeing it fast enough.
- 16:36[SPEAKER_00]: And that became kind of who he was as a pro.
- 16:38[SPEAKER_00]: And what I came to realize, like because I really thought highly of fields coming out was,
- 16:45[SPEAKER_00]: Like playing quarterback when you like hit when you're you're back foot hits the grass and plants and the way the play was drawn up it's just there for you.
- 16:56[SPEAKER_00]: It's a perfect yeah much different than now they have tape on me now they know what we're doing my back my plant foot hits the ground.
- 17:05[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, no, that's not there.
- 17:07[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, no, the second things not there and you're like holy crap.
- 17:10[SPEAKER_00]: Now, this is different.
- 17:11[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 17:12[SPEAKER_00]: Like, and I do wonder if to some degree for a lot of last year because of how good a coordinator Josh McDaniels is, and this would apply in the case of Daniels and Daniels and Stroud, too.
- 17:25[SPEAKER_00]: Like, how many times was Drake May snapping the ball into a play that was run exactly the way it was trying to.
- 17:34[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 17:35[SPEAKER_00]: Like it worked for perfection.
- 17:37[SPEAKER_00]: And there's a shelf life on that.
- 17:40[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 17:41[SPEAKER_00]: Like there really is.
- 17:42[SPEAKER_00]: And that's something I think people don't look out with quarterback development is there can be a shelf.
- 17:46[SPEAKER_00]: Like it's going to look like it looks great because no one knows what's coming.
- 17:50[SPEAKER_00]: But there's only so much you can do and then you get like 12 weeks into the first season and there's less of that and then they got to the playoff last year and now you're playing these brilliant offensive coaches and now the down in distances and it's good and you're playing from behind some more and you've got to hold the ball more and it's just like I think it's part of the and I think Drake is a really smart guy's going to make it through it but I think it would be silly for us to look at that and
- 18:16[SPEAKER_00]: not.
- 18:17[SPEAKER_00]: I think it would be silly for us to look at that and not think like this is part of the learning curve, you know, and I think that that could be part of why.
- 18:26[SPEAKER_01]: Great stat by my guy, Shilkopadia.
- 18:29[SPEAKER_01]: The C-Oxer 24 and 5, the last 29 games under Mike McDonald, you know how many times during that span that they've lost a game by more than 4 points.
- 18:41[SPEAKER_01]: Zero.
- 18:42[SPEAKER_01]: One.
- 18:43[SPEAKER_01]: That's unbelievable.
- 18:45[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know who it's to, but like, man, when people are talking about, you know, I'm back to like the back half of his first year then, right?
- 18:53[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 18:54[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 18:57[SPEAKER_01]: Jever opened the fridge and stare at it for like five minutes and have no idea what you're going to make for dinner.
- 19:02[SPEAKER_01]: I feel like that happens to me all too often and honestly, it's one of the reasons that I like but you box.
- 19:08[SPEAKER_01]: I like having something in the freezer, I know I can actually make a good meal with, whether it's burgers, steaks, chicken, salmon, whatever.
- 19:15[SPEAKER_01]: It's there and I don't have to make another trip to the grocery store or order out.
- 19:20[SPEAKER_01]: but your box delivers 100% grass fed beef organic chicken wild caught seafood more and they've already done the work of figuring out all the sourcing and the quality.
- 19:29[SPEAKER_01]: You just pick up the proteins, customize your box, and it shows up at your door.
- 19:34[SPEAKER_01]: I found this is especially helpful when I'm trying to meal prep throughout the week.
- 19:38[SPEAKER_01]: I can have some of my favorite proteins stocked in the freezer and just figure out what I want to make that night.
- 19:44[SPEAKER_01]: If you're looking for an easier way to make great meals, try butch your box.

- 21:56[SPEAKER_01]: When people are talking about, I mean, you know, what a swing, John Schneider took during a time like this when everyone was like, you got to go play collar, you got to go play collar.
- 22:06[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, this may turn out to be one of the truly
- 22:11[SPEAKER_01]: great coaching hires of of the last of the years.
- 22:15[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, and I think like I got to get him credit to because I thought that defense settled into, you know what I mean?
- 22:22[SPEAKER_00]: Like you had a lot of like you had a lot of a lot of role players back there in the secondary that like you know are playing bigger roles than they're used to whether it's a pressure, you know, like some of the guys back there have not played a lot, you know?
- 22:36[SPEAKER_00]: And um,
- 22:37[SPEAKER_00]: You know, like to be able to withstand the offseason loss is a rough Kobe Bryant and to recall, and again, the injuries to Nicki Minaj and Tyokata, I think like you saw them get better.
- 22:50[SPEAKER_00]: You saw them get more effective as the game went on, and I think that's a tribute to the guys that are running it on the sideline.
- 22:56[SPEAKER_01]: All right, let's pivot into our preview of Sunday and Monday.
- 23:01[SPEAKER_01]: The way that we taped this year, we're going to talk about some of the, like we may talk about a Monday game on Thursday because by the time we get around to previewing it on the Monday show, we're also breaking down Sunday.
- 23:13[SPEAKER_01]: But let us know how you guys like it.
- 23:16[SPEAKER_01]: What time you're listening to it?
- 23:18[SPEAKER_01]: Because that's part of it for us too.
- 23:20[SPEAKER_01]: We want to be able to give you guys the best experience.
- 23:23[SPEAKER_01]: As always, ratings, reviews, YouTube comments, hit us up on social media, join our SMS group, which is a great way to get in front of us at all times.
- 23:34[SPEAKER_01]: So if you want the 49ers and Rams preview,
- 23:38[SPEAKER_01]: just go back to the last episode.
- 23:40[SPEAKER_01]: We broke that game down then and all that's happened since then is the president of the Rams Kevin Dema fighting with a 49er supporter about how phenomenal it is or not phenomenal it is that they're arriving not a week early and so if you miss that I think I think you're pretty much caught up so we're going to have to keep there's been some of there's been some
- 24:05[SPEAKER_00]: friction with some of the different reporters.
- 24:07[SPEAKER_00]: And I know this guy's one of the guys that was involved in it.
- 24:09[SPEAKER_00]: And yeah, I think I think Kevin Demoff was aware of that, which was an interesting way to say that this is my only thing because we got to move in our preview, but like the
- 24:26[SPEAKER_01]: What's its stake tonight is huge for me as a person because if the if the rams go and blow the doors off the 49ers No team is going to want to go early ever again and it will eliminate what I think is my pet peeve and everyone's I was a god of you hate international football fans you hate international football fans.
- 24:47[SPEAKER_01]: No, I don't
- 24:48[SPEAKER_01]: I hate shipping good games overseas in some sort of an effort to barn storm like we need to raise awareness for this game.
- 24:57[SPEAKER_01]: It's already the best televised sport in the world.
- 25:00[SPEAKER_01]: What more do we need to do?
- 25:02[SPEAKER_01]: Why do we need to send a game to Melbourne?
- 25:05[SPEAKER_01]: to prove that to 100,000 people like a week chain, you know, how is that going to meaningfully change anybody's mind?
- 25:11[SPEAKER_01]: It's not.
- 25:12[SPEAKER_01]: And we don't need to send these guys a week early to answer our name questions about like, oh, if you visited the outmack yet, you know, and like it, like, why are we doing that?
- 25:21[SPEAKER_01]: That's a waste of everybody's time.
- 25:23[SPEAKER_01]: The miners, we're really promising.
- 25:25[SPEAKER_00]: The miners seem pretty pumped about the area.
- 25:26[SPEAKER_01]: Well, so,
- 25:28[SPEAKER_01]: Drake Greenlaw was talking to them about how Antarctica wasn't real.
- 25:33[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, and so do you view that as a good use of anybody's time, anybody's time, right, because now the Australian press thinks we're a bunch of nutty conspiracy theorists, which is probably true in America and then
- 25:51[SPEAKER_01]: You know, that's the story and then what we maybe get some clips of some guys hanging out with a kangaroo or something like that.
- 25:58[SPEAKER_01]: How does that change football in Australia?
- 26:02[SPEAKER_01]: It doesn't, right?
- 26:03[SPEAKER_01]: If you're watching those games at one o'clock in the morning and you're a die hard, you remain a die hard.
- 26:08[SPEAKER_01]: If you're a 12 year old kid who loves Australian rules football and your parents take you to the Melbourne cricket grounds for this game,
- 26:16[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe it'll change your mind, but what are we talking about here?
- 26:19[SPEAKER_01]: 10,000 people?
- 26:20[SPEAKER_01]: And if that's good, we don't need it.
- 26:23[SPEAKER_00]: What is the conquest though?
- 26:24[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, this is like, we're done growing up.
- 26:26[SPEAKER_00]: We have to grow out.
- 26:27[SPEAKER_00]: We have to add inventory and internationalism inventory.
- 26:30[SPEAKER_01]: So anyway.
- 26:32[SPEAKER_01]: No, all right.
- 26:33[SPEAKER_01]: Let's get to the preview, Albert.
- 26:35[SPEAKER_01]: Albert and I each picked two games to kind of go deep on in this one and then we'll get some one liners for the rest of them mine.
- 26:42[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to I'm going to I'm going to do the gimmick game and start with this one because I think it it it draws on a recent visit that we did together and
- 26:53[SPEAKER_01]: we can talk about whether games matter or not and whether they will matter in the long term and I can give you a list of the best games and I think that your list encompasses truly some of the best games, right?
- 27:06[SPEAKER_01]: But I want to talk about giants and cowboys, man.
- 27:08[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, like this is going to be to me.
- 27:13[SPEAKER_01]: one of the most consequential games of the weekend, Sunday Night Football in East Rutherford, because we have the Cowboys cresting on legitimate Super Bowl hope with a very different defensive coordinator.
- 27:27[SPEAKER_01]: And we have the Giants having gone all in on Harbaw.
- 27:32[SPEAKER_01]: And as Harbaw said to us personally,
- 27:35[SPEAKER_01]: It's trying to put together an offense that doesn't exist, right?
- 27:40[SPEAKER_01]: It's Matt Naggi and Greg Roman together.
- 27:43[SPEAKER_01]: There's no schematic common ground there.
- 27:45[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not being melodramatic.
- 27:47[SPEAKER_01]: John Harbaugh said that to us.
- 27:49[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 27:50[SPEAKER_01]: What owners does that look like?
- 27:51[SPEAKER_01]: Does it look like the Lamar offense?
- 27:53[SPEAKER_01]: Which kept everybody on their heels?
- 27:56[SPEAKER_01]: Or does it look like a lot of times when you try to smash together two very different ideologies and you end up with a tug of war over who gets to pull the strings?
- 28:05[SPEAKER_01]: I think that this game is fascinating.
- 28:07[SPEAKER_01]: I think if the giants get their doors blown off, that is significant in a home opener where people would pay 200 bucks a ticket to get in there against the division rival.
- 28:16[SPEAKER_01]: There's hope.
- 28:18[SPEAKER_01]: There's a lot of stake here, Albert.
- 28:19[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, this is a game that I think our means a great deal.
- 28:24[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, the nine, I mean, I'd say the Cowboys, their depth is already being tested with the injury to Tyler Smith, you know, and Lake and Tomlinson coming in now is a fast, is a Tomlinson at guard, you know, and the fact that they felt the need to bring in reinforcements to the position after one injury, I think kind of gives you an idea of the overall depth of the roster, which I think we've been over this,
- 28:47[SPEAKER_00]: you know, a really strong, I think group of 22 to start and then, you know, a couple guys go down and there are some key spots where you could be in trouble pretty fast.
- 28:58[SPEAKER_00]: So I think for the Cowboys, it's, you know, like being able to build some positive momentum with the group that you have coming out of the year that you had last year.
- 29:07[SPEAKER_00]: And then for the for the giants, I think it's just proof of concept.
- 29:10[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, that was a very difficult training camp that John Arba put him through in a relative sense, you know, like not versus what it was 20 years ago, but it was like a demanding camp and he asked a lot of his guys and he's trying to call us them and develop an identity.
- 29:27[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that proof of concept has to show up, right?
- 29:30[SPEAKER_00]: Like so where are you at as far as developing?
- 29:34[SPEAKER_00]: What a John Harbott team is and is it going to look like a John Harbott team winner lose on Sunday night?
- 29:39[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's a really important piece of the puzzle.
- 29:42[SPEAKER_00]: And again, like, you know, there's like that guessing game of what they're going to look like on offense.
- 29:47[SPEAKER_00]: And you don't know because it's naggy on the past game is Roman in the wrong game.
- 29:52[SPEAKER_00]: But, you know, I think you do know again what a Harbott team looks like.
- 29:56[SPEAKER_00]: And so that's the sort of third element into that whole thing and how it looks.
- 30:04[SPEAKER_01]: This is the 13th time that the Cowboys and the Giants will open the season together.
- 30:11[SPEAKER_01]: The previous 12 games, Dallas is 11 in one.
- 30:16[SPEAKER_01]: It's not even in the open.
- 30:20[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, I wouldn't guess that.
- 30:21[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it did feel like for a while like this was like every year and B.C.
- 30:25[SPEAKER_00]: was getting the Sunday night Cowboys, Cowboys, China and so on.
- 30:29[SPEAKER_00]: So I guess we're back to that now.
- 30:31[SPEAKER_01]: I, you know, I think it's, it's nice and here's, here's my hope.
- 30:37[SPEAKER_01]: I hope it's a game.
- 30:38[SPEAKER_01]: I hope that Jackson Dart has the ball in his hands.
- 30:43[SPEAKER_01]: with two minutes to go.
- 30:45[SPEAKER_01]: And we just joined through down by eight points or less.
- 30:49[SPEAKER_01]: That's my hope because, and I think the biggest thing about this game, and just in talking to coaches about the league and what they thought about different teams all summer was how would the giants gonna get to third down?
- 31:06[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, because they're going to be great once they get there, right?
- 31:08[SPEAKER_01]: But how are they going to get to third down?
- 31:10[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that's really the biggest thing that I'm looking for is like
- 31:15[SPEAKER_01]: And this can be an imprint of a hardball team, right?
- 31:18[SPEAKER_01]: It's physical toughness.
- 31:20[SPEAKER_01]: And on first and second down, how are you handling a Clayton Adams run game that I think is so underrated in terms of, you know, you put the NFL hierarchy of great run guru guys together.
- 31:33[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think Clayton gets nearly enough credit.
- 31:35[SPEAKER_01]: This is gonna be a banger of a run team.
- 31:38[SPEAKER_01]: And I think the way that Clayton sets it up is actually,
- 31:41[SPEAKER_01]: really good for the way that defenses are playing right now and probably bad news for a giant's team that's a little bit more light and a little bit more finesse.
- 31:48[SPEAKER_01]: The steam loves to have a fullback.
- 31:50[SPEAKER_01]: This team loves to be a problem for teams and so I don't love the matchup for the giants from being honest.
- 31:56[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, it's, I think the Cowboys have a chance to make a statement here, they'll be able to test the Giants corners with their receivers.
- 32:08[SPEAKER_00]: Like you said, the wrong game, like that's really going to, that could be an issue for the Giants, because the defense of tackle, I mean, they've told us themselves with the way they've operated over the last couple of weeks that they're still trying to figure out what they're going to be doing.
- 32:20[SPEAKER_00]: And the defense of tackle, they've got a couple of veteran players in the
- 32:26[SPEAKER_00]: Now, I'm repeating myself in BJ and BJ Raider and Shelby Harris, you know, so like what does that all look like, you know, I think that's an important piece to it.
- 32:38[SPEAKER_00]: And yeah, I think the cowboys do have a chance to go out and make a statement because they're going to give that giant's offense that may be still figuring things out.
- 32:47[SPEAKER_00]: Some unscathed looks and then, you know, offensively test the the the giants and key areas.
- 32:54[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, let's see DJ Reader, right?
- 32:57[SPEAKER_01]: Let's see him because I love DJ Reader.
- 32:59[SPEAKER_01]: I'm gonna line signed DJ Reader.
- 33:01[SPEAKER_01]: I thought this was gonna be a checkmate maneuver for a team with legitimate Super Bowl aspirations.
- 33:07[SPEAKER_01]: It's not like he's gotten that much older since then.
- 33:09[SPEAKER_01]: The question is, can you anchor a defensive line like Dexter Lawrence?
- 33:14[SPEAKER_01]: Can you command the same level of double teams?
- 33:16[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know, but I think that's probably my player to watch because, again,
- 33:22[SPEAKER_01]: If the giants can hang tough in the run game, and the one reason they might, like you said, is because of the injuries across Dallas's offensive line, maybe you think in yourself, okay, they can muddy this up.
- 33:34[SPEAKER_01]: They can make it a little bit complicated.
- 33:36[SPEAKER_01]: We'll see, you know, Greg News said my thought interesting.
- 33:40[SPEAKER_01]: Giant's cornerbacks said that we have the best corner
- 33:46[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if you caught the season opener between the Seahawks and the Patriots, but I think there's a couple teams, the Rams, also, that might have some contention there, but what does George Pickens look like?
- 33:59[SPEAKER_01]: That's another one too.
- 34:00[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, this game is rich and I really like that.
- 34:04[SPEAKER_01]: I like when a game is just like, so deep a storyline, and I know I have a New York bias, but I'm addicted to the fallout of some of these big prime time games.
- 34:13[SPEAKER_01]: Yep.
- 34:15[SPEAKER_00]: All right, Albert, give me yours.
- 34:18[SPEAKER_00]: I can't wait for Bill's Texans.
- 34:20[SPEAKER_00]: I, you know, we all know what that game was.
- 34:24[SPEAKER_00]: I think it was a Thursday night.
- 34:25[SPEAKER_00]: Is that right?
- 34:26[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 34:26[SPEAKER_00]: And that to me, that game last year was kind of the coming out party for the Texans defense.
- 34:31[SPEAKER_00]: Not that we didn't know they were already really good, but that was like the holy crap that might be like,
- 34:38[SPEAKER_00]: 2000 Ravens, 2002 Buccaneers, you know, like it really kind of felt like that sort of 2015 Broncos, like kind of like here they come.
- 34:50[SPEAKER_00]: And so I
- 34:53[SPEAKER_00]: I can't wait for that one purely because of the matchup of Josh Allen and Joe Brady at his first game as a head coach and I think it's going to look different with Brady as the head coach versus what I think is like this generation's version of one of those defenses and
- 35:12[SPEAKER_00]: What's also interesting is the other end of it, and that's how the CJ Stroudmuck was Nick Kayley in year two, and the Bill's defense obviously bringing Jim Leonard in.
- 35:25[SPEAKER_00]: I just think that that one is so rich with just storylines across the board.
- 35:29[SPEAKER_00]: I can't wait for it.
- 35:31[SPEAKER_01]: I love the stat, uh, Josh Allen's career record on the road against the Houston Texans Oh and four, um, against the Texans, he has a 52% completion percentage, 68% against all other teams, six passing yards per attempt against the Texans, eight against all other teams.
- 35:51[SPEAKER_00]: Is this going to half?
- 35:54[SPEAKER_00]: But is it still, is it still on our G stadium or is it back to our line or something like that I wasn't there some names it's it's shifting back it's going back to reliant like yeah, right, it's starting to rely then it went to NRG and now now it's exactly the way around or let's see other way around whatever also hordes for Josh Allen.
- 36:14[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's weird right because it's not.
- 36:19[SPEAKER_01]: Like, like, it's not called the old cow palace or anything like that, like it's just like, you know, like corporate copy prints stadium, you know, and it's like, yes, he's historically struggled in copy paper print stadium, but this defense is is excellent, it got better, and I can't wait, like, and I think the cool thing about Mike McDonald is that he made,
- 36:48[SPEAKER_01]: He took that the base of that Raven's philosophy and made it so fun and made it so turbocharged that we're looking forward to defense again I think as a collective football watching society and you could say the guys there said they're oh, I always loved shut up No, you liked it when it was you know Chiefs Rams 52 48, you know, that was your era of football, but I think that
- 37:12[SPEAKER_01]: teams like this make defense super fun and super enjoyable yes it takes away from the fact that Josh Allen make him only complete like half of his passes in this game but I'm looking forward to it well like and I obviously I don't root for I haven't rooted in NFL game for you know
- 37:30[SPEAKER_00]: damn near a quarter century now.
- 37:31[SPEAKER_00]: But there is something that's, I, I think like, there's something different about rooting for a team that's got a defense like that that's exhilarating about rooting for a dominant, dominating defense and a smothering defense and they are, they are that type of group to watch.
- 37:48[SPEAKER_00]: So, um,
- 37:50[SPEAKER_00]: You know, like, and, and, and look, like, I don't know how much longer we're going to be able to see this at this form of it, right?
- 37:55[SPEAKER_00]: Because to Neil Hunter's getting older, come on, last year, we should have a big part of what they do.
- 38:01[SPEAKER_00]: He's a free agent after this year, and they are getting the point where I, I think some decisions are going to have to be made on some guys.
- 38:09[SPEAKER_00]: You know, after paying some of the, the other guys at the top of the roster.
- 38:15[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if DJ Moore,
- 38:17[SPEAKER_01]: And again, it's, you can go back to the offseason and Brandon Bean is at a rock in a hard place, right?
- 38:22[SPEAKER_01]: He doesn't draft a receiver.
- 38:24[SPEAKER_01]: Everybody's all over him.
- 38:25[SPEAKER_01]: He drafts a receiver.
- 38:26[SPEAKER_01]: It's not good enough.
- 38:27[SPEAKER_01]: And then he goes out and gets a receiver via trade, like DJ Moore, and it's like, wow, the, you know, the bear's probably we're gonna cut him anyway, right?
- 38:35[SPEAKER_01]: And you had to spend a second round pick for him.
- 38:37[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 38:38[SPEAKER_01]: You know, maybe that's kind of true.
- 38:39[SPEAKER_01]: They're more pretty good.
- 38:41[SPEAKER_00]: I think he's good, too.
- 38:42[SPEAKER_00]: I don't, I wouldn't be trading for him unless Joe Brady who had him in Carolina.
- 38:49[SPEAKER_00]: He gave the blessing, which I think is like an underrated piece of that whole thing.
- 38:53[SPEAKER_01]: Sure.
- 38:54[SPEAKER_01]: And I just wonder because I think what's the secret sauce here for Houston's defense is that when you play that white nine,
- 39:04[SPEAKER_01]: and you have these deathlettings against Josh Allen, and then you have a guy like Aziz al-Shair, waiting for you if you decide to break the pocket, it totally disincentivizes Allen to play like Allen does, right?
- 39:17[SPEAKER_01]: You don't want to leave the backfield.
- 39:19[SPEAKER_01]: You don't want to get out in open space against this team, and so what you need are matchup breakers,
- 39:27[SPEAKER_01]: because, you know, this team can smother you one on one.
- 39:31[SPEAKER_01]: They don't need, like a lot of these cornerbacks don't need help.
- 39:34[SPEAKER_01]: And then, you know, the nickel is also a linebacker, you know what I mean?
- 39:38[SPEAKER_01]: And so I think, well, is DJ more a matchup breaker?
- 39:42[SPEAKER_00]: I think what's fascinating about it is like having DJ more.
- 39:46[SPEAKER_00]: And there's another team like this that I think is fun a little bit under the radar with their move.
- 39:50[SPEAKER_00]: We'll get to them in a minute, but like,
- 39:52[SPEAKER_00]: I think DJ Moore is good enough that when you break the huddle.
- 39:58[SPEAKER_00]: the defense is going to not want to know where they are.
- 40:01[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that makes a difference for everyone else.
- 40:03[SPEAKER_00]: And so like what can you do with concave now?
- 40:06[SPEAKER_00]: What can you do with secure now?
- 40:08[SPEAKER_00]: What can you do with James Cook now?
- 40:10[SPEAKER_00]: I think the dynamic changes with those guys kind of slaughtered into roles.
- 40:15[SPEAKER_00]: And I think like going wide receiver to a wide receiver three is way oversimplifying it.
- 40:19[SPEAKER_00]: But like I think there is some element of that where if you take a guy knock him down and run, you know, it's like the opposite of
- 40:26[SPEAKER_00]: I had a team tell me, you know, years ago, the Alvin Harper rule, and I've told you about the Alvin Harper rule.
- 40:33[SPEAKER_01]: Sure.
- 40:33[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 40:34[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 40:34[SPEAKER_00]: The Alvin Harper rule is basically when you're projecting a number two to be a number, somebody else is number two to be a number one.
- 40:40[SPEAKER_00]: Alvin Harper, you know, really good NFL receiver, played opposite Michael Irvin, the buck and years signed him to be their number one.
- 40:47[SPEAKER_00]: It didn't work out.
- 40:47[SPEAKER_00]: We've seen cases like those over the years.
- 40:49[SPEAKER_00]: This is the opposite of that.
- 40:51[SPEAKER_00]: Where you're bringing in somebody else's number one, and now you're able to slot.
- 40:55[SPEAKER_00]: different guys into different roles as a result of it, you know, and so that piece of it I think is really interesting.
- 41:02[SPEAKER_00]: And I do think like Joe Brady, his offense is going to look different then it did, you know, when he was doing it within the context of shopping business program.
- 41:13[SPEAKER_01]: I wonder because
- 41:17[SPEAKER_01]: We always get to the point in the year, the off season, where we believe things to such a degree of certainty, and one of them is that they don't use them.
- 41:29[SPEAKER_01]: The Houston Texans, right?
- 41:30[SPEAKER_01]: This is the best defense in the NFL.
- 41:33[SPEAKER_01]: I believe it because I saw it.
- 41:35[SPEAKER_01]: I believe it because I was there.
- 41:37[SPEAKER_01]: I believe it because I talked to literally every member of that defense.
- 41:41[SPEAKER_01]: I talked to the defensive coordinator and talked to their defensive life.
- 41:44[SPEAKER_01]: Like I believe it because I sat in it and steeped in it, but this league is constantly changing.
- 41:53[SPEAKER_01]: all anybody watched this offseason was the Texan's defense right and you're already you're already hearing from some coaches well maybe if we run with a little bit more fullback maybe if we do a little bit more gap scheme stuff instead of going outside then it lessons are effectiveness we can get after them a little bit more and it neutralizes the ends
- 42:13[SPEAKER_01]: I'm dying to know if there's something out there that is a little bit of a poison pill for this Texan's defense and what we haven't thought of.
- 42:20[SPEAKER_01]: And if someone's got to come up with it, it's Joe Brady because you fired Sean McDermott to get to Joe Brady and you're unleashing Joe Brady and theoretically taking the cap off of this entire team and the offense, I want to see what their answer is.
- 42:37[SPEAKER_00]: Because you know, I think number one you have to be over on the bottom.
- 42:40[SPEAKER_00]: Like that again, people don't want to hear that like I think it's part of why you know Josh McDonald's took a beating for what happened last night and running the ball the way he did, but you have to do that against those defenses because if you don't Like you're giving them license to pin their ears back you're creating more long yardage situations
- 42:58[SPEAKER_00]: Because every ball is not going to be completed in the passing game and you're basically exponentially increasing the amount of big plays and so you know what James Cook looks like one of the ball's important piece of it.
- 43:10[SPEAKER_00]: I think the other thing is just having guys use their more concise you know and like the one thing about a deep end's playing the way that they do and it's fast as they do.
- 43:19[SPEAKER_00]: is there is space.
- 43:21[SPEAKER_00]: Now, many clothes down the space really well, you know, but there is space that's created by their aggression.
- 43:28[SPEAKER_00]: And so you have to have guys who operate well on space that can make the pay for their aggression.
- 43:33[SPEAKER_01]: Another thing with the bills, and if you watch the last match of the ad against Texans, I think what made Houston so effective is, Josh Allen likes to get a bunch of guys out.
- 43:43[SPEAKER_01]: You know, he likes to get a five guys out on a route concept because he likes to be able to see the field, he likes to be able to explore, he likes to be able to make his decisions.
- 43:52[SPEAKER_01]: Houston took a lot of that away.
- 43:54[SPEAKER_01]: Where you can't get those guys out or if you do, they're not gonna be open because we're so athletic.
- 43:59[SPEAKER_01]: And so that was sort of that checkmate moment,
- 44:03[SPEAKER_01]: I thought in their last matchup that made that really fascinating.
- 44:06[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to go to my next one and this game by all accounts.
- 44:12[SPEAKER_01]: is a massive clunker, okay, this is a game that you're not going to push anything out of your way to get to if the bar has Sunday ticket.
- 44:23[SPEAKER_00]: Is this like how is this is this like in the Connor loves bad football, uh, category?
- 44:28[SPEAKER_01]: This is in the Connor loves bad football category, but I don't know that it'll be bad football, but I do know that it's going to be insanely consequential football, um, and that's Jets,
- 44:38[SPEAKER_01]: Titans, okay?
- 44:39[SPEAKER_01]: And it's the Robert Solable.
- 44:41[SPEAKER_01]: It's the Bobby Solable, which we love.
- 44:44[SPEAKER_01]: But it's also, you know, I do a spot on a national radio.
- 44:50[SPEAKER_01]: And I was talking to the guys about this.
- 44:53[SPEAKER_01]: There's no such thing as a must-win game in week one.
- 44:56[SPEAKER_01]: But if you're camward,
- 44:58[SPEAKER_01]: And you have this draft class coming.
- 45:02[SPEAKER_01]: And you have a new head coach who didn't draft you and a new offensive coordinator who didn't draft you.
- 45:08[SPEAKER_01]: And you underperformed last season.
- 45:11[SPEAKER_01]: And you come out and you get swacked by Aaron Glenn in the jets, which is possible because it's an older defense but they're healthy right now, right?
- 45:21[SPEAKER_01]: Let's say that team comes out and beats the living crap out of you.
- 45:25[SPEAKER_01]: That's a tough spot to come back from.
- 45:27[SPEAKER_00]: I, you know what I mean?
- 45:29[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I agree, I think you have to, we have to start, and it seems early, and it probably is to some degree, but the kids got a ton of ability, physical ability.
- 45:41[SPEAKER_00]: And, you know, now you gotta start seeing it.
- 45:43[SPEAKER_00]: Now, the good news is I, by all accounts of work ethics there, I think what's around him is getting better.
- 45:50[SPEAKER_00]: I'm gonna,
- 45:52[SPEAKER_00]: mispronoun thing.
- 45:53[SPEAKER_00]: Alec, I animal.
- 45:55[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's how you pronounce it right, but they're draught pick from last year's a good player.
- 46:00[SPEAKER_00]: DK is a good player.
- 46:01[SPEAKER_00]: And what does Cardinal Tate look like in his rookie year?
- 46:07[SPEAKER_00]: That's a piece of it, Tony Paul, or I think it's a nice veteran like presence to have in the backfield with him.
- 46:14[SPEAKER_00]: I'm with you.
- 46:14[SPEAKER_00]: I think under Bryan
- 46:19[SPEAKER_00]: You know, and we need to see, look, I think a command against a defense that is susceptible on the back end, you know, and does have some areas that you can exploit and take advantage of, in part, because of what they traded away last year.
- 46:36[SPEAKER_01]: I think one of the parts that makes this difficult for word is that Borgonzi has been hitting on some of the other pieces, right?
- 46:45[SPEAKER_01]: Like you had a hit, you know, at the wide receiver position in the middle rounds last year, right?
- 46:51[SPEAKER_01]: You may have another hit, again, I'm sure Albert would say so in Carnell Tate, and, you know, Albert, tell me, probably there's a greatest Bok guy to come out,
- 47:01[SPEAKER_00]: No, I'm good.
- 47:02[SPEAKER_00]: No, I wouldn't say it's the greatest, but I think last night was another example of what players that position from that school can do.
- 47:13[SPEAKER_01]: But, you know, the that is part of it, right?
- 47:17[SPEAKER_01]: Because I don't think words offensive line, you could consider as bad anymore.
- 47:23[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think that is coaching staff, you can consider bad.
- 47:26[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think is wide receivers, you can consider bad.
- 47:30[SPEAKER_01]: And so I think a lot of it is, do you live up to the Mahomes promise?
- 47:36[SPEAKER_01]: And obviously, he's not going to play as well as Mahomes, but like, you have build yourself as sort of the 2.0 creator type, where you're not going to use your body to run a lot, but you're going to use your body to
- 47:51[SPEAKER_01]: Can you do that against this jet steam, you know?
- 47:54[SPEAKER_00]: And to be fair, like you said, like, I mean, my home is walking into a team that's coach by Andy Reed that had been to the playoffs for the five years before he got there.
- 48:01[SPEAKER_00]: So it's a different situation.
- 48:04[SPEAKER_00]: Here's the other thing.
- 48:07[SPEAKER_00]: This is a question I have thought about when I was there.
- 48:12[SPEAKER_00]: Is she knows Smith the best quarterback?
- 48:13[SPEAKER_00]: Garrett Wilson has ever had.
- 48:16[SPEAKER_00]: Yes Aaron Rodgers sorry Aaron Rodgers was in there, but other than Aaron Rodgers, but but think about when think about when he had him, right?
- 48:25[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, like Gino Smith is not going to go into a meeting with Garrett Wilson and be like
- 48:32[SPEAKER_01]: Here's all my secret hand signals.
- 48:34[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to show them to you once and you dememurize them and then I'm going to trash you in front of the New York media when you don't pick up on it.
- 48:40[SPEAKER_01]: Like if I'm winking to you and you're supposed to know exactly what I'm thinking at that moment and you don't.
- 48:45[SPEAKER_01]: Devontay Adams did, but that was like really the only player that that was not consistently on board with Rogers and all of his different pre-snaps stuff.
- 48:55[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm bringing up him specifically, not because of he where he went to school also.
- 48:59[SPEAKER_00]: But it's just the group around him.
- 49:03[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's actually got a chance to be pretty good.
- 49:04[SPEAKER_00]: If AD Mitchell can take a step, if Omar Cooper has a chance to become a reliable slot, Mason Taylor, had a really good camp brief halls there.
- 49:14[SPEAKER_00]: There are two young tackles or good.
- 49:16[SPEAKER_00]: I think they believe the right tackles of chance to become great, Armon Membo, and Olifashano on the left side.
- 49:23[SPEAKER_00]: I just, I, I, like,
- 49:26[SPEAKER_00]: It's not hard to get yourself to a place where they're pretty functional, pretty fast, offensively with Frank Wright, but you know, right in the show.
- 49:32[SPEAKER_01]: So I had that's part of it, too.
- 49:35[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think this thing is going to be, um, I don't think this thing is going to be the greatest show on turf, but I think you could score three touchdowns, and then it's kind of on your defensive mind ahead coach to see if you could shut it down.
- 49:47[SPEAKER_01]: That's my thing.
- 49:47[SPEAKER_01]: It's like, I just think the loser of this game, and it's weird, right, because
- 49:55[SPEAKER_00]: Right, I mean, like if you're part of a credit of losses, what probably would be what Chet's fans were rooting for this year?
- 50:01[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 50:01[SPEAKER_00]: And if you're charting a course for a six win season, like it's the Trevor Lawrence thing all over again.
- 50:08[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 50:09[SPEAKER_00]: All right, my other one.
- 50:10[SPEAKER_00]: But my last one is going to be overly obvious.
- 50:13[SPEAKER_00]: I think Bill's eye text is was obvious.
- 50:15[SPEAKER_00]: This one, I think is really obvious too.
- 50:17[SPEAKER_00]: And that's the Monday night game between the Broncos and the Chiefs.
- 50:21[SPEAKER_00]: That's true.
- 50:22[SPEAKER_00]: Patrick, my home is returned after the ACL.
- 50:26[SPEAKER_00]: What a great game to finish the weekend.
- 50:29[SPEAKER_00]: I'm really excited for that one for a million different reasons.
- 50:34[SPEAKER_00]: And it is like one of those that you can circle in week one and say like, this could determine somewhere somewhere where a playoff game.
- 50:43[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 50:44[SPEAKER_00]: Or maybe even more than one playoff game is being played.
- 50:46[SPEAKER_00]: And I always, you know, I think I used the example the other day of this like Seahawks.
- 50:51[SPEAKER_00]: And, you know, like last year, the difference between them and the Rams was like that.
- 50:57[SPEAKER_00]: The Rams had to go,
- 50:59[SPEAKER_00]: two Carolina, then they had to go to Chicago in the cold, and then they went to Seattle.
- 51:05[SPEAKER_00]: Whereas Seattle got all three home games, got all three home games, got all, got their two honor seat, playoff games at home and the buy.
- 51:13[SPEAKER_00]: And so, like, I think it's that sort of matchup.
- 51:16[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I think both these teams are going to be in the playoffs and, you know, there's certainly scenarios where this one could play a hand and who lines up being at home in January.
- 51:29[SPEAKER_00]: Jalen Waddle.
- 51:30[SPEAKER_00]: How does he know who I was referencing?
- 51:32[SPEAKER_00]: Like I think in Waddle was who I was referencing earlier with DJ Moore where I was theme source scenario.
- 51:38[SPEAKER_00]: If we're looking at what's happened with Tua and we're saying to ourselves, okay, maybe there's another level in Jalen Waddle.
- 51:45[SPEAKER_00]: We didn't see because of some of the limitations there.
- 51:49[SPEAKER_00]: And now he can be a number one, and now you're talking about like Marvin Mims and Pat Brian and Portland Sutton and Evan and Grum at RG Harvey.
- 51:58[SPEAKER_00]: Now all of those guys are complimentary weapons, those are not changed as I name it completely.
- 52:07[SPEAKER_01]: Oh yeah, I mean there's no question about it, I this is less than observation than a prediction.
- 52:24[SPEAKER_01]: Every team wants to be up 21 points at half time, but the way that the Broncos are built, I wouldn't be surprised if we see them coming out, heymaker, heymaker, heymaker, heymaker, right?
- 52:38[SPEAKER_01]: The Chiefs have it rookie at a premier corner spot and look, they've done a nice job of layering talent.
- 52:44[SPEAKER_01]: This is not one of those situations where
- 52:47[SPEAKER_01]: The foundation completely crumbled but the realities of their finances hit right and they had to let some players go Trunks and players go.
- 52:53[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think it's barren, but I think the the the format the landscape is ripe For Davis web to take a couple of kill shots really early and turn this thing over to the running game
- 53:05[SPEAKER_00]: That's part of the reason why I took them for this one.
- 53:08[SPEAKER_00]: I think the cheese will be my home.
- 53:09[SPEAKER_00]: It's going to play well.
- 53:11[SPEAKER_00]: But the left tackle thing does worry me.
- 53:15[SPEAKER_00]: You know, they got Cleo Bancidus and Undrafted Rookie.
- 53:18[SPEAKER_00]: They traded for someone else's rookie and and bringing in Diego pounds from Baltimore.
- 53:23[SPEAKER_00]: They've dealin' more who's played both right and left.
- 53:26[SPEAKER_00]: But the Josh Simmons saga continues and you know, I think it really
- 53:30[SPEAKER_00]: It's just one of those things where with Mahal was coming back from the ACL, that'd be one that I certainly have circled.
- 53:39[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, you talk about games that could send a narrative, spiraling out of control.
- 53:45[SPEAKER_01]: If Mohomes gets sacked three times by Nick Benito and starts limping a little bit in this game.
- 53:51[SPEAKER_01]: I think that I think Chiefs Kingdom kind of starts burning itself down there.
- 53:56[SPEAKER_01]: Let's just shoot through.
- 53:58[SPEAKER_01]: Here's how I wanna do this.
- 54:00[SPEAKER_01]: I'm gonna try it.
- 54:00[SPEAKER_00]: I'm gonna try it.
- 54:01[SPEAKER_00]: Or do you wanna just give me a hug?
- 54:02[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I'll give him a hug.
- 54:03[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I'll give him a hug.
- 54:04[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, so we'll go every other
- 54:09[SPEAKER_01]: Just give me a one line kind of prediction prediction.
- 54:14[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, like, there's not to be necessarily bold, but just like a prediction for each of these games.
- 54:18[SPEAKER_01]: I'll start Tampa Bay at Cincinnati, I'll do too.
- 54:23[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I think that we're gonna get two sacks from the rookie Ruben Bane, but I think the bangles are gonna hold the bucks under a hundred yards rushing.
- 54:30[SPEAKER_01]: I think we're really gonna like what we see at a Dexter Lawrence there.
- 54:33[SPEAKER_00]: There you go.
- 54:34[SPEAKER_00]: There you go.
- 54:34[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, so bang.
- 54:35[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, so the band was holding box under 100 yards.
- 54:37[SPEAKER_00]: Two sacks were banned.
- 54:38[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 54:38[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you got Detroit in New Orleans.
- 54:41[SPEAKER_01]: Actually actually can can I steal this one because I have it.
- 54:44[SPEAKER_01]: I have a decently bold prediction here.
- 54:46[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 54:47[SPEAKER_01]: New Orleans of Detroit.
- 54:48[SPEAKER_00]: I think the lines are hanging a 40 burger on this one.
- 54:52[SPEAKER_01]: Let's go.
- 54:53[SPEAKER_01]: Come on, you like that?
- 54:55[SPEAKER_00]: Look out, Brendan, stick Brandon's daily.
- 54:56[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, all right.
- 54:57[SPEAKER_01]: That's no disrespect to daily.
- 54:59[SPEAKER_01]: I'm just saying, I think that they're going to come out.
- 55:00[SPEAKER_00]: The lines, I didn't realize, have a chance to be and like, off the charts, offensively.
- 55:05[SPEAKER_01]: Go ahead.
- 55:06[SPEAKER_00]: I do too.
- 55:07[SPEAKER_01]: All right, we did the Jets and the Titans.
- 55:10[SPEAKER_01]: Baltimore and Indianapolis hit me with that.
- 55:12[SPEAKER_01]: Ever.
- 55:14[SPEAKER_00]: I think we're going to see a return to dominance of the Raven's defense.
- 55:18[SPEAKER_00]: Like I think the Raven's defense got away from some of the things that they became really good at.
- 55:23[SPEAKER_00]: My Donald adventures bring that back, some of the more some of the two high looks, there will be creative and how they use Kyle Hamilton.
- 55:32[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's going to be a rough return for Daniel Jones because of the strength of the Baltimore defense, which I think all of them know in going away.
- 55:41[SPEAKER_01]: Atlanta at Pittsburgh, I got a 120 plus rushing yards for Rico Dowdall.
- 55:48[SPEAKER_01]: Taylor's debut.
- 55:49[SPEAKER_01]: You like that one?
- 55:50[SPEAKER_01]: Given you too many lose here.
- 55:53[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, this Falcon's team is is thread bear and I, you know, as good as Jeff will brick is.
- 56:00[SPEAKER_01]: I, you know, they're banged up on the defensive line, and who am that front scares you?
- 56:05[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it's in Smith that we think is going to slow down a pretty good offensive line.
- 56:10[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I don't know.
- 56:11[SPEAKER_01]: And again, doubt will doubt will had a good season without a lot of helping Caroline last year.
- 56:15[SPEAKER_00]: So, yeah, I mean, it was like Pittsburgh.
- 56:18[SPEAKER_00]: Atlanta without the two rookies from last year, I got you.
- 56:21[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, what's you got?
- 56:22[SPEAKER_00]: What's next?
- 56:23[SPEAKER_00]: All right, Carolina hosting the Chicago Bears.
- 56:29[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, I would say, Colston, Lovelin has over 100 yards in this game and stamps himself as one of the top five tight ends in all football.
- 56:41[SPEAKER_00]: I think you've looked at God's ears, man.
- 56:43[SPEAKER_00]: He's got a massive year.
- 56:44[SPEAKER_00]: And I think Caleb, I think a big part of them using like trying to teach Caleb, take the easy money, take the underneath stuff.
- 56:52[SPEAKER_00]: You don't need to make it harder on you.
- 56:53[SPEAKER_00]: A big part of that plan is Lovelin.
- 56:55[SPEAKER_00]: And I think we're gonna see,
- 56:57[SPEAKER_00]: Ben Johnson, who's so creative in the way he uses his weapons with some real creativity in the way that he uses a constant love on, who's a different player than what he had in Detroit for those years, who say I'm a quarter on TJ Hawkinson.
- 57:09[SPEAKER_00]: Cleveland, a Jacksonville, my bold prediction is that Jacksonville doesn't win this game.
- 57:15[SPEAKER_01]: Um, and I did it in my office 72 does not win this game.
- 57:18[SPEAKER_01]: And here's the only reason why I don't know.
- 57:22[SPEAKER_01]: Let's say, yeah, and here's the reason why nothing makes sense in week one.
- 57:26[SPEAKER_01]: Nothing, right?
- 57:27[SPEAKER_01]: We're already in the fire.
- 57:28[SPEAKER_01]: We're so down the road with Shidorah Sanders and we know he's going to start the home opener and like this is something that we believe to be true in our souls.
- 57:37[SPEAKER_01]: It's just a weird start.
- 57:39[SPEAKER_01]: I have Jacksonville making the playoffs.
- 57:41[SPEAKER_01]: I have everything's going to be fine.
- 57:43[SPEAKER_01]: But I think this is weird Todd Munkin victory in week one that gets everyone saying, what the hell is going on there?
- 57:49[SPEAKER_01]: So I don't know.
- 57:50[SPEAKER_01]: We'll see what happens.
- 57:52[SPEAKER_01]: We did Buffalo and Houston Miami at Las Vegas, Albert.
- 58:00[SPEAKER_01]: $2, $12 a ticket by the way.
- 58:01[SPEAKER_01]: It'll eat in stadium, really?
- 58:03[SPEAKER_01]: Really?
- 58:03[SPEAKER_00]: It was really?
- 58:07[SPEAKER_00]: movie Benson will make an impact on that game.
- 58:11[SPEAKER_00]: Hello, that is the most attractive match up of the board, but I think I think the movie Benson, the rookie out of Oregon, they have a deficiency at receiver, they need young guys to step up, I think he's wanted to watch.
- 58:26[SPEAKER_01]: Alright, I got Vikings, the Minnesota Vikings taking on the Green Bay Packers, hosting the Green Bay Packers.
- 58:34[SPEAKER_01]: A lot of talk about Kyla Murray, but I think the buzz at the end of this one is going to be a narrow Vikings victory alongside.
- 58:42[SPEAKER_01]: 150 plus rushing yards.
- 58:45[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to like what Kevin O'Connell installed in this new downhill-wide zone system, which I'm very interested to see what that looks like and just kind of poking and prodding at that.
- 58:55[SPEAKER_01]: Green Bay defense, it's just never kind of think that Jeff Haffley said it two years ago.
- 58:59[SPEAKER_01]: We need a little bit more beef on the interior that just haven't gotten it.
- 59:02[SPEAKER_01]: So I think this tests him in a real way.
- 59:11[SPEAKER_00]: Jaden Daniels is gonna throw for over 300 yards.
- 59:16[SPEAKER_01]: Let's go.
- 59:18[SPEAKER_00]: And I think Steph on Diggs is gonna lead the commanders in receptions in what game we are, but in this game, I just think he's a really good fit for what they need.
- 59:31[SPEAKER_00]: And I think, you know, between the lines, he's still a really good player.
- 59:36[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm gonna take it, Diggs to have a big game and Jaden Dan knows to go over 300 yards.
- 59:43[SPEAKER_00]: Last and most certainly last.
- 59:47[SPEAKER_01]: Second cheapest ticket price of the weekend.
- 59:51[SPEAKER_01]: You can get, you can get in at so-fi stadium for the Chargers and the Cardinals for 28 bucks.
- 59:58[SPEAKER_01]: You can get in to Nissan Stadium for Jet to Titans at 19 in the season opener.
- 1:00:02[SPEAKER_01]: Good God.
- 1:00:03[SPEAKER_01]: What's going on there?
- 1:00:05[SPEAKER_00]: I, my bold prediction.
- 1:00:06[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm not going to back it up.
- 1:00:09[SPEAKER_01]: I had my also 272 the Chargers just losing this game for no reason, but I've since replaced that, and I'm all in on the weird Cleveland to Sean Watson week one victory, because it's just it's the least palatable option for me, so that tends to happen.
- 1:00:24[SPEAKER_01]: But I think, point, I don't want to wish cast this on anybody, but I think we have a learning moment,
- 1:00:39[SPEAKER_01]: That was a cream hunt that fumbled on his first carry in Foxborough.
- 1:00:47[SPEAKER_01]: Do you remember that?
- 1:00:48[SPEAKER_01]: It was like, um, he's not right.
- 1:00:50[SPEAKER_00]: They came as a mode.
- 1:00:51[SPEAKER_00]: They blew the Patriots out that night.
- 1:00:53[SPEAKER_00]: That was like when they first unveiled the spread, like the real spread offense that they were going to run from the homes.
- 1:00:58[SPEAKER_00]: Now, expect was still a quarter back.
- 1:01:02[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I'm not sure.
- 1:01:03[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, Creme Hunt fumbled his first ever regular season.
- 1:01:07[SPEAKER_01]: Count one.
- 1:01:08[SPEAKER_00]: Like you like run the rushing title that year, too, didn't he or he's close to it?
- 1:01:11[SPEAKER_01]: Some might that.
- 1:01:12[SPEAKER_01]: I think it was something like that.
- 1:01:15[SPEAKER_01]: But he finished the game as like a monster, right?
- 1:01:22[SPEAKER_01]: And had a really good game.
- 1:01:23[SPEAKER_01]: If I correctly mean my god, this is like,
- 1:01:25[SPEAKER_00]: Discomplete or the the cardinals are going to be judicious about how they use love this year.
- 1:01:31[SPEAKER_00]: He has an unbelievable talent.
- 1:01:33[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's the right thing to do.
- 1:01:34[SPEAKER_00]: They want to limit his mileage this year to some degree, which is why they have out gear there, you know, like I just think that they're going to be, they're going to use him in, and they're going to use, they're going to use him in a platoon and be careful about what they expose him to.
- 1:01:52[SPEAKER_00]: And yeah, I was surprised that you're going to wish a fumble upon them, but that's your choice.
- 1:01:58[SPEAKER_01]: You know what?
- 1:01:59[SPEAKER_01]: Because nothing very little that I predict actually comes true.
- 1:02:02[SPEAKER_01]: And so I think in a lot of ways.
