- 0:08Speaker 1: Well as we all know of Vixen as a fox,
- 0:10Speaker 1: and in East Asian folklore, foxes are depicted as possessing
- 0:14Speaker 1: magical powers, mischievous, usually tricking other people, mystical sacred creatures
- 0:19Speaker 1: who can bring wonder or ruin or what have we
- 0:22Speaker 1: just seen this weekend? You're a No Dribble strappy. Hello
- 0:38Speaker 1: and welcome to No Dribble, the podcast where we talk
- 0:40Speaker 1: about we talk about so much. Well, my name's Carolyne Swindell.
- 0:44Speaker 2: Or what order dore we going now that we're not
- 0:46Speaker 2: in the studio together?
- 0:47Speaker 3: I'm Cat Fox. Well, welcome back, Cat Cox. I'm Lozellis.
- 0:51Speaker 1: Yes, welcome back Catherine. We missed you last week. I
- 0:53Speaker 1: mean you so much I've had to flee the state.
- 0:56Speaker 2: Well, do you know what it is nice to be back.
- 0:59Speaker 2: I do enjoy listening to you three, though. I must
- 1:02Speaker 2: say it was nice to have a gaudy am on
- 1:04Speaker 2: the airwaves.
- 1:06Speaker 1: And then I got to see her in the flesh.
- 1:09Speaker 1: The wee man was that when she was smiling? Or
- 1:12Speaker 1: was it after the game?
- 1:13Speaker 2: It was pre game she was smiling. Do you know
- 1:16Speaker 2: who I also saw on the weekend but could not
- 1:19Speaker 2: work out who they were? Excellent. There was a person
- 1:22Speaker 2: not that far away I have for real lost my
- 1:25Speaker 2: eyesight waving at me, and I was doing these spaces like, okay,
- 1:30Speaker 2: they must know me. That probably means I know who
- 1:32Speaker 2: they are. Still nothing. They kept waving, and I'm like,
- 1:36Speaker 2: I actually have no idea who this person is. And
- 1:39Speaker 2: now it's getting embarrassing.
- 1:41Speaker 3: Don't you do like just the way back with the
- 1:43Speaker 3: with the un threatening smiling face.
- 1:45Speaker 2: Huh, Well, I could have, but I thought they were
- 1:47Speaker 2: waving so intently, you know they're a good mate, Like
- 1:50Speaker 2: it's that kind of waving right anyway, So I got
- 1:53Speaker 2: a bit closer, and I'm still completely perplexed as to
- 1:56Speaker 2: who it is. Even closer at this point, this person's
- 2:00Speaker 2: also like, why the hell.
- 2:02Speaker 1: Why is Catherine doing this to me?
- 2:06Speaker 2: It was schirealmic Min What I know you didly don't know,
- 2:16Speaker 2: but I could not work around. I'm gonna blame lighting
- 2:19Speaker 2: or something. I want to say.
- 2:20Speaker 1: Just put this in context too. She's a very seeing
- 2:25Speaker 1: a member of the Vixen's coaching staff, I believe, and
- 2:27Speaker 1: you were at a Vixen game. She's the GM now,
- 2:31Speaker 1: isn't she of the club performance? So she was in
- 2:35Speaker 1: context yes, but aside from that, the very good mate,
- 2:39Speaker 1: who I've.
- 2:39Speaker 2: Spent an awful time.
- 2:43Speaker 3: You need to get glasses because the best thing is
- 2:46Speaker 3: if you're squinting at someone and you don't have your
- 2:47Speaker 3: glasses on, you can go, oh sorry, I put my
- 2:50Speaker 3: glasses on it. Oh I could see you even if
- 2:52Speaker 3: you get fake. Get yourself some fake glasses so you
- 2:54Speaker 3: can at least blame something.
- 2:56Speaker 2: I've got some.
- 2:57Speaker 1: I'm gone, just Catherine. Not wear glass is for anything,
- 3:00Speaker 1: not distance or reading.
- 3:02Speaker 2: Look read, I haven't had my eyes.
- 3:08Speaker 1: For your messages.
- 3:09Speaker 2: I just don't wear them.
- 3:11Speaker 3: Okay, what are they?
- 3:13Speaker 1: Well, it's the sexty librarian has joined us.
- 3:20Speaker 2: I never wear them.
- 3:21Speaker 3: They're proper glasses. So you've been checked and being given
- 3:24Speaker 3: glasses or alongsided, I don't know. For reading reading you
- 3:31Speaker 3: need to see cherrelle.
- 3:32Speaker 2: Do you need well no, I just looked up there
- 3:34Speaker 2: and everything's blurry, so it must be the short stuff.
- 3:37Speaker 1: Okay. Short sighted means you can't see long distances. Longsided
- 3:42Speaker 1: means you can't read.
- 3:44Speaker 3: Yes, I can see. I am horribly short sighted, but
- 3:49Speaker 3: I can see. If I take my glasses off, I
- 3:51Speaker 3: can see you guys here, and if.
- 3:53Speaker 2: I want you to be. I've got my glasses.
- 3:55Speaker 3: Actually, I don't want to look at you fair enough.
- 3:58Speaker 1: Do we look hazy?
- 4:00Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 4:02Speaker 1: I went and did it because my private health insurance
- 4:04Speaker 1: had run a financial year. So this past week I've
- 4:07Speaker 1: had everything, you know. I've been to the optometrist, I've
- 4:09Speaker 1: been to the doctor. I'm getting all the everything. Script's renewed.
- 4:13Speaker 1: I've been ticking it off and trying to get my
- 4:15Speaker 1: value out of my private health insurance. Okay, here's a
- 4:17Speaker 1: red hot tip. I was going to save it for
- 4:19Speaker 1: no Dripple recommends go to a doctor when the soccer
- 4:21Speaker 1: wos are playing.
- 4:22Speaker 3: It's great.
- 4:23Speaker 1: I went to the doctor. I went to the post
- 4:25Speaker 1: office and didn't miss anything. It was still a nil
- 4:27Speaker 1: or draw.
- 4:30Speaker 2: No one's around, everyone's at home watching.
- 4:32Speaker 1: I was like, well, that's exactly right. Everyone else is busy.
- 4:35Speaker 1: So I get to go and do my business and
- 4:36Speaker 1: then go back and think. Because I'm really interested in
- 4:39Speaker 1: the tournament of the soccer worker, but I'm not interested
- 4:42Speaker 1: in watching the games. I figure I can watch everything,
- 4:46Speaker 1: everything on highlights, but I think the tournament's interesting.
- 4:50Speaker 2: Well, I was just going to say, I've got two things. Firstly,
- 4:53Speaker 2: is going to palm Cove part of your pre end
- 4:57Speaker 2: of financial year looking after?
- 5:00Speaker 1: Is that what I mean? It certainly does have financial
- 5:04Speaker 1: implications associated with it, but no, just taking a week
- 5:07Speaker 1: the first week the school hot. So my son's doing
- 5:09Speaker 1: is HSC this year. So it's just gonna go somewhere
- 5:13Speaker 1: warm and not do very much. And it is paradise here,
- 5:18Speaker 1: like we're sleeping, I can. You know, it's usually when
- 5:21Speaker 1: you sleep somewhere, when you're staying somewhere and you can
- 5:23Speaker 1: hear the ocean. You also have to hear partiers walking past,
- 5:27Speaker 1: you have to hear traffic all night. It's just it's
- 5:29Speaker 1: just it's peaceful. It's heaven. Don't tell anyone. I do
- 5:32Speaker 1: not want this place to fill up. There's already there's
- 5:34Speaker 1: already too many people I know here.
- 5:36Speaker 2: Yeah, my sister's just up the road.
- 5:38Speaker 3: Yes, I think you posted a.
- 5:41Speaker 2: Photo and my niece was, like Carolin's in Palm Coved.
- 5:45Speaker 2: So it's like there's so many different places around that
- 5:47Speaker 2: look the same as that. How do you know? Yeah,
- 5:49Speaker 2: sure enough, yep, yep.
- 5:51Speaker 1: There's a picture of my feet and the balcony and
- 5:53Speaker 1: a glass of wine, a very smug photo that I posted.
- 5:56Speaker 1: And then Sarah sent me a photo of almost exactly
- 5:58Speaker 1: the same thing, but she didn't put her feet out
- 6:00Speaker 1: that date, so she can't sell her photo on Wiki feet.
- 6:05Speaker 2: Prime and plan.
- 6:07Speaker 3: So have we been watching lots of the World Cup, Carolyn?
- 6:10Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 6:10Speaker 3: Getting up early? Well yeah, so the sun's getting up early,
- 6:14Speaker 3: but now we have the World Cup on every morning
- 6:15Speaker 3: while he's getting ready, So every morning ends up a
- 6:18Speaker 3: twenty eight going.
- 6:19Speaker 1: Come on this stuff, So you're cheering like an English
- 6:24Speaker 1: soccer fan with it as much.
- 6:26Speaker 3: Angers watched it at school the other day. The teacher
- 6:30Speaker 3: put it on.
- 6:31Speaker 2: I was on the whatever day the last Aussie game was,
- 6:33Speaker 2: and they watched two hours of the soccer that ended
- 6:37Speaker 2: obviously zip all. Meanwhile, what sport can you be? Zip
- 6:42Speaker 2: all and advance.
- 6:44Speaker 1: And people and people are happy about that.
- 6:46Speaker 2: That's so stupid.
- 6:47Speaker 1: Have you ever read the off side rule in soccer?
- 6:50Speaker 1: I tried to understand it once, Like the off side
- 6:52Speaker 1: rule in netball is thirteen words. In soccer, it's like
- 6:55Speaker 1: thirteen pages of words about what offside means.
- 7:00Speaker 3: Stupid, No, don't get it anyway there how.
- 7:03Speaker 2: Far we're supposed to stand from the center circle all
- 7:05Speaker 2: the feet guys, I was wandering I was having a
- 7:08Speaker 2: little chuckle at you all last week.
- 7:11Speaker 3: I was right. I'd always told my well, you're all right. Yeah,
- 7:16Speaker 3: I don't know. I made a career out of maybe
- 7:20Speaker 3: bending the rules or ignoring the rules. But you've got
- 7:23Speaker 3: to know the rules first.
- 7:24Speaker 1: You've got to know it first to bend it. Yes, well,
- 7:27Speaker 1: I'm not thrilled that school is letting kids stop school
- 7:30Speaker 1: to watch the soccer, because I feel I'm a little
- 7:34Speaker 1: bit worried about my daughter's education. So we flew into
- 7:37Speaker 1: Canes where Palm Kave is sort of twenty five minutes
- 7:40Speaker 1: drive north of Cannes. And when we landed, was sitting
- 7:44Speaker 1: next to Lewis and she said, oh, it seemed a
- 7:46Speaker 1: short flight and he said, well, what do you mean.
- 7:49Speaker 1: She said, it took us longer to get to Western
- 7:51Speaker 1: Australia last time. Yeah, Aunt, darling, we're in Queensland.
- 7:57Speaker 2: Oh did you not tell her or she does we pension?
- 8:02Speaker 1: We just said we're going to cans And honestly, she
- 8:04Speaker 1: doesn't have to fly the plane. It's not she doesn't whatever,
- 8:07Speaker 1: But anyway, and it's the same sort of holiday. We've
- 8:10Speaker 1: been to Western Australia a couple of times over the
- 8:12Speaker 1: last few years on this same winter holiday Heaven and
- 8:17Speaker 1: this is the same sort of thing. Tomorrow we're going
- 8:18Speaker 1: out on a boat on the reef and we're going snorkeling.
- 8:21Speaker 1: We did that last time over in Western Australia. So
- 8:24Speaker 1: I can understand. And you know, Year seven's busy. She
- 8:27Speaker 1: got a lot on her plate. She can't be expected
- 8:29Speaker 1: to keep up with geography as well as everything else.
- 8:31Speaker 2: Why to be fair though, like when we were playing live,
- 8:34Speaker 2: half the time, I wouldn't know where we were going.
- 8:37Speaker 2: Jan Troy said, be at the airport at this time.
- 8:39Speaker 2: That's all I needed to know.
- 8:40Speaker 3: Yep, yep, that's good.
- 8:42Speaker 2: In Dot's defense, she's probably like, man, that's not my issue.
- 8:44Speaker 1: I think that's right. But I will tell you we're
- 8:48Speaker 1: staying at an airbnb. It's wonderful. But you know, there's
- 8:50Speaker 1: always something in an airbnb that I think I want
- 8:52Speaker 1: to steal. And so it's come down to two things.
- 8:56Speaker 1: So here is a chip shaped oh the bag click
- 8:59Speaker 1: is to put over the top of your bag.
- 9:01Speaker 2: Of chips two bucks and came up.
- 9:04Speaker 1: Yeah, I know that's what I thought. But the other
- 9:07Speaker 1: one and this one I probably won't steal because it's
- 9:09Speaker 1: a collector's item, a Nickelback CD.
- 9:15Speaker 2: LS and I love Nickelback. We went to the concert.
- 9:20Speaker 1: I remember you telling me this at a dinner party
- 9:23Speaker 1: at Liz's place once, and you had corporate box tickets
- 9:26Speaker 1: or something, didn't you And everyone the whole rest of
- 9:29Speaker 1: the table agreed, we'd rather not go to a corporate
- 9:32Speaker 1: box ever, than go to a Nickelback.
- 9:34Speaker 3: Ellis and that horrified we did, and well well could
- 9:39Speaker 3: have broke up one of the only people in the
- 9:41Speaker 3: corporate box. It was an interesting crowd.
- 9:47Speaker 1: I will say, all concerts are good. It's great to
- 9:51Speaker 1: go to a live concert if you're give it an opportunity,
- 9:53Speaker 1: even if it's Nickelback, you should go right.
- 9:55Speaker 3: We will blame ple shirts.
- 9:57Speaker 2: We fit right in.
- 9:59Speaker 1: So what what is their one hit?
- 10:02Speaker 2: Oh like photograph?
- 10:05Speaker 1: Look at this photograph, that's the one internets them on today?
- 10:11Speaker 2: Is this me?
- 10:12Speaker 1: Is this their only album? Nickelback? All the right reasons?
- 10:15Speaker 1: Oh look, I've got the lyrics. I can't possibly ever
- 10:18Speaker 1: read these lyrics, but I've got the lyrics here.
- 10:20Speaker 2: I want to borrow my glasses.
- 10:25Speaker 3: I don't know why there was so much hate for Nickelback.
- 10:28Speaker 2: I know I like old music, yeah, except we didn't
- 10:31Speaker 2: really tell too many people. We will go to nickelback.
- 10:35Speaker 3: This is true. We kept it under wraps. And you know,
- 10:38Speaker 3: I think I might have been working Yeah, I was
- 10:40Speaker 3: working on Triple M at the time with Will Anderson
- 10:42Speaker 3: and Limo, and I told them after the event and
- 10:45Speaker 3: they never let me live it down. And I should
- 10:47Speaker 3: never have told them.
- 10:48Speaker 1: It's a very.
- 10:48Speaker 2: Triple you're talking triple J on Triple AM.
- 10:50Speaker 3: No one's Triple M.
- 10:52Speaker 2: It's a very triple M kind of music, isn't it.
- 10:55Speaker 3: Yes?
- 10:56Speaker 2: Yeah, but yeah, I feel like you'd get sledged as
- 10:59Speaker 2: much if you went to Hanson or something like that.
- 11:02Speaker 2: There's completely other direction.
- 11:04Speaker 1: But but diat it up it up. But yeah, every
- 11:10Speaker 1: year I have a handsome Christmas CD that every year
- 11:16Speaker 1: we have to work out a way to play the
- 11:18Speaker 1: CD because it's now part of our Christmas tradition. It's
- 11:22Speaker 1: as bad as you think it is. But you're when
- 11:24Speaker 1: we're putting the Christmas tree up.
- 11:26Speaker 2: Uh. Primo Primo has like all the Christmas songs, but
- 11:30Speaker 2: with an ummin a bot thrown in there.
- 11:32Speaker 3: Yep and there.
- 11:38Speaker 1: Why do you listen to for the red Hot news?
- 11:42Speaker 1: Like the music?
- 11:42Speaker 3: Creed? What is it. Is there a CD player there?
- 11:45Speaker 3: I can't. It's the fact that harder and harder, but
- 11:50Speaker 3: every year, like you're talking about the fact that there's
- 11:52Speaker 3: a Nickelback CD, there is there a CD player there
- 11:55Speaker 3: where you.
- 11:55Speaker 1: Are, I don't know. There's a DVD player with a
- 11:58Speaker 1: box of DVDs, which is quite good in critics Ballroom,
- 12:00Speaker 1: which I'm going to lobby that we watched tonight, because
- 12:03Speaker 1: that is a great movie strictly Ballroom. It's been a
- 12:05Speaker 1: long time since I've seen it. So I will investigate
- 12:08Speaker 1: whether it is possible to play this CD, and I
- 12:11Speaker 1: will report back next week. It's not like we will
- 12:13Speaker 1: have a Grand Final to talk about next week or anything.
- 12:16Speaker 2: Time for that chat.
- 12:18Speaker 1: Speaking of which I did on Saturday night, I went
- 12:21Speaker 1: to the pub thanks to Mitch, one of the Dribblers,
- 12:23Speaker 1: who did the research for me and put on the
- 12:25Speaker 1: Facebook group that I could watch the game there. So
- 12:28Speaker 1: I was. There was Mitch and her daughter Adele, and
- 12:31Speaker 1: there was another woman there, Fiona, and they were all
- 12:33Speaker 1: Mad Vixen's fans, and I was kind of soft feever.
- 12:37Speaker 1: I didn't really care who won on Saturday night as
- 12:40Speaker 1: long as it was a good game and there was wine,
- 12:43Speaker 1: and certainly there was wine, and for a while it
- 12:46Speaker 1: was a really really good game, wasn't it. But I
- 12:48Speaker 1: couldn't work out why are all these Queenslanders Vixen's fans?
- 12:53Speaker 1: And then we worked out, well, other people are also
- 12:56Speaker 1: on holidays, Caroly, and so I don't know that I'm
- 12:58Speaker 1: much smarter than my daughter, to be honest. But we
- 13:02Speaker 1: had a great time at the pub, and the netball
- 13:05Speaker 1: crowd were the noisiest crowd, and then other people came
- 13:08Speaker 1: to join us, and it was lots of fun and
- 13:10Speaker 1: obviously they were very happy, and we were all excited
- 13:13Speaker 1: with what the Vixens were able to produce. But I
- 13:16Speaker 1: would like to take a short break and then come
- 13:17Speaker 1: back and talk about some netple never mean it.
- 13:20Speaker 3: As a wise man.
- 13:22Speaker 2: I couldn't cut it as a poor man stealing, So
- 13:25Speaker 2: try to live in like a blind man. I'm sick
- 13:28Speaker 2: someone out of sense of feeling, and this is out.
- 13:32Speaker 1: You remind me, This is you?
- 13:38Speaker 3: Remind me, I really, this is out you remind.
- 13:47Speaker 2: I like you? Sorry a boss? We not a different
- 13:52Speaker 2: story this time? To stay poor out of you, I
- 13:57Speaker 2: would breaking.
- 14:03Speaker 3: Every body.
- 14:08Speaker 1: Okay, So that was my Saturday night and I have
- 14:20Speaker 1: no clear wisdom to share about the game because of
- 14:25Speaker 1: the aforementioned wine and the pub, and that we had
- 14:27Speaker 1: to also have the music from the pub and the
- 14:30Speaker 1: AFL noise at the same time was going on, even
- 14:33Speaker 1: though every screen seemed to be showing Rugby League except ours.
- 14:36Speaker 1: But anyway, that's just it's part of a journey that
- 14:39Speaker 1: we as netball fans are taking on to get the
- 14:41Speaker 1: pubs to fix it up.
- 14:43Speaker 2: But exciting, exciting. Funny say that because straight after the game,
- 14:48Speaker 2: I said to Bianca Chatfield, as soon as we were
- 14:50Speaker 2: off air, I would really like, obviously, I love our
- 14:54Speaker 2: job and I want to be here doing this, but
- 14:56Speaker 2: one day I'd really love to sit with a glass
- 14:58Speaker 2: of wine and watch these games. They'd be really good.
- 15:01Speaker 3: It's very good.
- 15:02Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, it would be good fun. I know you
- 15:04Speaker 2: both lucky enough to do it, but I mean, we
- 15:06Speaker 2: have the best seats in the house. I'm not going
- 15:07Speaker 2: to complain. Funny though, I walked in and I thought
- 15:11Speaker 2: Vixens would win. I mean I was I was unsure,
- 15:13Speaker 2: but I thought Vixen's were a better chance of winning it.
- 15:16Speaker 2: My only concern was I was worried if they would
- 15:20Speaker 2: be the best team to then take on Thunderbirds the
- 15:22Speaker 2: week after. I actually thought it might have been Fever,
- 15:25Speaker 2: but it wasn't a massive crowd in. It certainly was
- 15:30Speaker 2: a sellout, and I thought, oh, maybe that's going to
- 15:33Speaker 2: be the difference between whether the Vixens are going to
- 15:36Speaker 2: be fired up to get a win here or where
- 15:38Speaker 2: the Fever can. But after that first quarter, it was
- 15:42Speaker 2: that was put to bed because they were on another
- 15:46Speaker 2: level and they did not look like slowing down. They
- 15:48Speaker 2: looked like they were just warming into it. And Dan
- 15:51Speaker 2: Ryan was ripping his team a new one in the
- 15:53Speaker 2: very face huddle. I thought, this is this is going
- 15:57Speaker 2: to be a big blowout.
- 15:58Speaker 1: So was it a Again, as I said, I couldn't
- 16:01Speaker 1: really hear the commentary as well as I would like
- 16:04Speaker 1: to whine social blah blah blah whether Vixen's that good
- 16:10Speaker 1: or were Fever just off their game or was it both,
- 16:14Speaker 1: because it just it looked to me like that the
- 16:16Speaker 1: Fever Vixens came out with all of the answers and
- 16:19Speaker 1: Fever just couldn't find anything to respond to it.
- 16:24Speaker 2: I mean, definitely, definitely a bit of both. Although you
- 16:28Speaker 2: have to say, Liz, obviously, when a team is playing
- 16:31Speaker 2: that well, it does put pressure on the other side,
- 16:34Speaker 2: and then they make mistakes, right, so how do you
- 16:35Speaker 2: know which is which? But Fever were making ridiculous errors.
- 16:40Speaker 2: There was a patch where Ramelda stepped out of court.
- 16:43Speaker 2: There was a replay, a ball went straight through Ramelda's
- 16:46Speaker 2: hands like that stuff. There was stepping calls. You know
- 16:49Speaker 2: that stuff is not necessarily under pressure from your opponent.
- 16:54Speaker 2: It can be, but there was like three or four
- 16:57Speaker 2: of those mistakes in the Erratas thought, oh, you know what,
- 16:59Speaker 2: it's just not your it's just going wrong, and continues
- 17:03Speaker 2: to and Vixen's get or getting all the wins. But
- 17:06Speaker 2: did you see Ramelda's post after the game.
- 17:10Speaker 1: I saw people's responses to the post, but I couldn't
- 17:13Speaker 1: find the post. So was she critical of the umpiring?
- 17:17Speaker 2: It literally said it was a black screen and in
- 17:20Speaker 2: white writing it said rigged. Oh and it was up
- 17:24Speaker 2: for a very long time and then finally deleted.
- 17:27Speaker 1: Oh that's such a shame, because I just I wanted
- 17:32Speaker 1: to acknowledge about ten thousand goals career goals, like, I mean,
- 17:37Speaker 1: oh man, that's.
- 17:38Speaker 2: Not really sour taste in your marrith.
- 17:41Speaker 1: Yeah, that's terrible.
- 17:42Speaker 2: I don't just give it. Mum would always say to me,
- 17:46Speaker 2: if you feel like that's sleep on it, give it
- 17:48Speaker 2: a minute, because in the light of day, you're going
- 17:50Speaker 2: to wake up and go you know, it's what it is,
- 17:53Speaker 2: what it is, It's all over now you move on
- 17:56Speaker 2: to whatever else. I feel like the worst time to
- 17:58Speaker 2: be doing anything like that is in the heat of
- 18:00Speaker 2: the emotion. Right.
- 18:02Speaker 3: That's hard with social media, like it gives you the
- 18:05Speaker 3: ability to do something in that immediate heightened emotion, but
- 18:10Speaker 3: go anywhere doesn't know exactly right, So like, I just, yeah,
- 18:14Speaker 3: that's disappointing. I actually thought the game was a ripping game,
- 18:18Speaker 3: and I thought that Vixen's their defensive pressure all the
- 18:21Speaker 3: way down the court. Of course, I'm going to say this.
- 18:22Speaker 3: I thought their defensive pressure was outstanding. And you know,
- 18:26Speaker 3: last year in the Grand Final, I thought Joe Weston
- 18:28Speaker 3: played the best game I've ever seen her play, and
- 18:31Speaker 3: the other night might have been the second best game
- 18:32Speaker 3: I've ever seen her play. She just and you know,
- 18:35Speaker 3: we talked about where the Vixen's been in the second
- 18:37Speaker 3: half of this season. Maybe they're just waiting for the
- 18:39Speaker 3: moment to you know, step up and maybe this is
- 18:41Speaker 3: it right, And that's when your big game players come out.
- 18:43Speaker 3: And I was watching Joe Weston going she is such
- 18:46Speaker 3: a big game player. So you know, you can you
- 18:50Speaker 3: can on one hand say that everything went against you.
- 18:53Speaker 3: On the other hand, you go, well, you know, the
- 18:55Speaker 3: opposition were great. I thought Vixen's tractstanding.
- 18:57Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 18:58Speaker 3: I thought Zarah Walters in Winniba was just yeah.
- 19:03Speaker 1: Do you know why she started rather than Hannah Monday?
- 19:07Speaker 2: Well, I don't. I honestly think she started because Die
- 19:12Speaker 2: thought she was the better option. When we interviewed Died pregame,
- 19:15Speaker 2: she did allude to the fact that Hannah may have
- 19:18Speaker 2: still had a foot niggle, but Hannah was warming up.
- 19:22Speaker 2: Hannah was there, Hannah looked like she would have played.
- 19:24Speaker 2: I think the issue going forward now is what happens
- 19:28Speaker 2: if Hannah's thoughts, if that was an issue is one
- 19:31Speaker 2: hundred percent this weekend, who do you start? I reckon,
- 19:33Speaker 2: you got to start Sarah Walter's.
- 19:35Speaker 3: Yeah, I think so too. Yeah, she was amazing, but what, like,
- 19:39Speaker 3: what a decision to have to make, Like, imagine having
- 19:41Speaker 3: that much firepower on your bench. Yeah, and do you
- 19:44Speaker 3: remember last year in the Grand Final, Hannah Monday came
- 19:47Speaker 3: on midway through the second or third quarter and I
- 19:50Speaker 3: thought she just injected something completely different into the game.
- 19:54Speaker 3: So there's a potential to sort of to just change
- 19:57Speaker 3: the game with one once substitution, and Die Honey will
- 20:01Speaker 3: have the ability to do that in the grand final.
- 20:03Speaker 3: I think that's fascinating.
- 20:05Speaker 2: You know.
- 20:05Speaker 1: The other person who's got that much firepower on the
- 20:07Speaker 1: bench though, is tany obs like this is five power?
- 20:11Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 20:12Speaker 1: Amazing.
- 20:14Speaker 2: What about the Vixens in prelium finals though? Just before
- 20:16Speaker 2: we go, So they've played in what three of the
- 20:19Speaker 2: last four and they've won them all. Now they've played
- 20:22Speaker 2: in four of the last five and won them all.
- 20:24Speaker 1: And isn't fevers record the exact oppositey if they got
- 20:27Speaker 1: to a preliminary final, they don't win them.
- 20:32Speaker 2: So unbelievable, Like your back is that against the war,
- 20:35Speaker 2: you yourself through and they do it. They do it
- 20:37Speaker 2: the hard way. So in contrast to the Thunderbirds, So
- 20:40Speaker 2: the last two premierships they've won in twenty three twenty four,
- 20:43Speaker 2: they've they've won straight through and had the week off
- 20:45Speaker 2: and that works for them. They've won both those premierships.
- 20:49Speaker 2: But the Vixens love the hard slog. This is the
- 20:51Speaker 2: way they like to go. They like to go through
- 20:53Speaker 2: playing all the games possible, and I reckon, given their form,
- 20:57Speaker 2: that is a good way to go because they.
- 20:59Speaker 1: Look like they were having fun too.
- 21:05Speaker 2: Eleven goals. It's not often that you get to celebrate.
- 21:09Speaker 1: And it could have been that's you know, that's because
- 21:11Speaker 1: of Live Wilkinson nailing a couple of super shots at
- 21:14Speaker 1: the end. It could have been sixteen or seventeen. That's
- 21:17Speaker 1: the scoreline, couldn't it. I did wonder last week at
- 21:20Speaker 1: the end of the Fever.
- 21:23Speaker 3: Mavericks game. Fever did celebrate like they won the Grand Final,
- 21:26Speaker 3: and I get that right there in front of a
- 21:29Speaker 3: massive home crowd. It was super exciting. It was awesome
- 21:32Speaker 3: they played in a while. Yeah, really fantastic. But then
- 21:36Speaker 3: there's a former captain, I go, oh, or you want
- 21:39Speaker 3: to just keep a lid on that just look like
- 21:42Speaker 3: you expected it.
- 21:42Speaker 1: You know.
- 21:43Speaker 3: We always talked about that. Remember when we were getting
- 21:45Speaker 3: flogged by New Zealand and we had this game and
- 21:47Speaker 3: we're like, I reckon, we're going to win it. We
- 21:49Speaker 3: turned out we did win, and we talked about not
- 21:52Speaker 3: celebrating like it was a grand Final. We want them
- 21:54Speaker 3: to think that, you know, we expected to win. We're good,
- 21:56Speaker 3: we know what we're doing, so I just think you've
- 21:59Speaker 3: got to be I mean, not that it made any difference.
- 22:02Speaker 3: I think Vixen's just outplayed them.
- 22:03Speaker 1: But so what do you if you're Kate Maloney, what
- 22:06Speaker 1: are you saying to your team this week? What's your I.
- 22:10Speaker 3: Think it's interesting, right because they've all been there and
- 22:11Speaker 3: done that before. It's exactly the same squad as last year,
- 22:14Speaker 3: so they all know what to do. I think you're
- 22:17Speaker 3: sort of making sure that you keep a lid on it.
- 22:19Speaker 3: They all know they're playing against a Thunderbirds team at
- 22:22Speaker 3: the peak of its powers. This Vixen's team is a
- 22:25Speaker 3: really mature team. I don't think it's I don't think
- 22:27Speaker 3: Kate has to do too much. So if I was
- 22:30Speaker 3: Kate oh and Die Honey, I would just be saying,
- 22:33Speaker 3: just do what we always do. You know, you don't
- 22:35Speaker 3: even do anything massively different in Grand Final week. You
- 22:38Speaker 3: just do the things you've done all year, enjoy the
- 22:40Speaker 3: moment because they all know what it's like. So I
- 22:43Speaker 3: don't think she has to do too much just because
- 22:45Speaker 3: of the maturity of the team in the back of
- 22:48Speaker 3: their mind. They'll have you know, a couple of years
- 22:50Speaker 3: ago they got pumped by the Thunderbirds in the semifinal
- 22:55Speaker 3: and they won the prelim and then I only lost
- 22:57Speaker 3: the Grand Final by one or two. It was an
- 22:59Speaker 3: amazing match in Adelaide. So they've been there and done
- 23:02Speaker 3: that before, right. They also know how to turn around
- 23:04Speaker 3: a bid, losing a big deficet into going very close
- 23:07Speaker 3: to a win. And I suspect they'll go back to
- 23:09Speaker 3: that game and that Grand Final and talk about the
- 23:12Speaker 3: fact that they went so close. So they've sort of
- 23:15Speaker 3: had I thought last year everyone was playing for the
- 23:18Speaker 3: right to get flogged by Fever in the Grand Final,
- 23:20Speaker 3: and this year I felt the whole time everyone's playing
- 23:23Speaker 3: for the right to get flogged by Thunderbirds in the
- 23:24Speaker 3: Grand Final. But Vixen's are the team that have consistently said,
- 23:29Speaker 3: oh hang on, there's something else to see here, right,
- 23:31Speaker 3: So I don't think Kate has to do too much.
- 23:33Speaker 3: What do you reckon, Cootsie?
- 23:34Speaker 2: No, I was going to say exactly the same thing,
- 23:36Speaker 2: And you're so right about the Fever game last year,
- 23:40Speaker 2: because that's the other thing, isn't it, Like it's completely
- 23:43Speaker 2: different when you get to the grand final. We saw
- 23:45Speaker 2: how all play out last last year. I reckon the
- 23:47Speaker 2: difference for the Vixen's is the way they played the game.
- 23:51Speaker 2: They played this game almost yes, they had to get
- 23:54Speaker 2: a win, but they looked like they were playing it
- 23:56Speaker 2: as a training run to the t Birds. It was
- 23:59Speaker 2: far shorter, it was really quick. There was a lot
- 24:01Speaker 2: of just letting the ball go, even if it wasn't
- 24:03Speaker 2: the best option. They just kept the ball moving. And
- 24:06Speaker 2: I reckon that's what they did really well in one
- 24:09Speaker 2: quarter in the semi final against the Thunderbirds. But they
- 24:12Speaker 2: have to do it in all quarters obviously, and they
- 24:14Speaker 2: did it at least three quarters on the weekend, so
- 24:17Speaker 2: that they're practicing already what they need to do next week.
- 24:21Speaker 3: Ask to me a great game there will be.
- 24:24Speaker 1: I have worked, as you know, in professional rugby and
- 24:27Speaker 1: rugby league at various times, and one of the captions and.
- 24:32Speaker 3: Yet we still talk to you. Can you believe it?
- 24:34Speaker 1: One of the captains in the chine room in exactly
- 24:37Speaker 1: the same position that Kate Maloney is in. Now use
- 24:40Speaker 1: the expression let's not start sucking each other's dix yet, gentlemen,
- 24:44Speaker 1: And it's.
- 24:44Speaker 2: Like fair enough graphic, but gets to the point.
- 24:50Speaker 1: I just I imagine that Kate Maloney's language is going
- 24:53Speaker 1: to be a little bit more. I don't know. Wait,
- 25:00Speaker 1: that's out there for the world to know if we
- 25:02Speaker 1: want to. One thing we've just talked about how bad
- 25:06Speaker 1: social media can be. Something I'm loving watching is the
- 25:09Speaker 1: MAVs getting around the Vixens. Now like the MAVs social media,
- 25:12Speaker 1: it's sort of really starting to now go, well, we're
- 25:16Speaker 1: going to get behind the Vixens. I think the Vixens
- 25:18Speaker 1: went out to the airport when the MAVs had to
- 25:20Speaker 1: fly to Perth. MAVs put some shit on the Vixens
- 25:23Speaker 1: and said, well, if you'd done your job, we wouldn't
- 25:25Speaker 1: have to be going to Perth. So then so then
- 25:28Speaker 1: the Vixens went out to the airport. It's like, I
- 25:31Speaker 1: love it this so much. It's really nice. I mean,
- 25:34Speaker 1: I think that you know, what we don't want to
- 25:35Speaker 1: see is a united Victoria in this country. We need
- 25:38Speaker 1: to but you know, as a general rule, Yeah, but
- 25:42Speaker 1: I thought that was just it's really sweet and it's
- 25:44Speaker 1: through and once again the MAVs winning the Social Media
- 25:47Speaker 1: Championship absolutely, you know, from the get go, they've been
- 25:50Speaker 1: the team to be.
- 25:52Speaker 2: Just quickly before we go on, how good that for
- 25:54Speaker 2: the fourth time in the five years of predetermined Grand Finals,
- 25:57Speaker 2: or however many years it is, one of the teams
- 25:59Speaker 2: has won through the Grand Vinyl YEA.
- 26:02Speaker 3: One was the Swift Thunderbirds a few years ago and
- 26:04Speaker 3: that was bad.
- 26:05Speaker 2: It was anyway, it was amazing that it's really cool
- 26:08Speaker 2: to have one of the teens from that state in
- 26:10Speaker 2: the Grand Final.
- 26:11Speaker 1: I count wait, I'm so excited about the weekend. We
- 26:14Speaker 1: will talk about the Grand Final and Friday's episode, but
- 26:18Speaker 1: I will say I must apologize to the Fever. I
- 26:22Speaker 1: didn't think they were a chance without Janille, but you know,
- 26:25Speaker 1: that's they they have. I think surprised us all with
- 26:29Speaker 1: the season that they had. You know, a lot of
- 26:31Speaker 1: that is the job that Ramildadak and George has done.
- 26:34Speaker 1: But yeah, I'm sad for sad for Fever fans, so
- 26:38Speaker 1: sad for Gordy on Saturday night, it's like, oh god,
- 26:41Speaker 1: this is this is a brutal way for your season
- 26:44Speaker 1: to end. But they had a great season.
- 26:46Speaker 2: Yeah, I agreed. They should be very mard of themselves
- 26:49Speaker 2: and just quick shout out to Alice t neild the
- 26:51Speaker 2: Shining Light. In that game. She had forty fees zero
- 26:55Speaker 2: turnovers in sixteen nice.
- 26:58Speaker 3: That's believable.
- 26:59Speaker 2: That's yeah. Well a lot of ball touched in a
- 27:04Speaker 2: big game like that without an error is incredible.
- 27:07Speaker 1: She's an amazing player, isn't she.
- 27:10Speaker 2: Well?
- 27:10Speaker 1: Okay, well, plenty more Nepple for us to talk about.
- 27:15Speaker 1: Let's take a break though and come back, because I've
- 27:19Speaker 1: got something that's made me go hmm. Okay. I'm really
- 27:45Speaker 1: hoping that Alex will be putting in some stings from
- 27:48Speaker 1: nickelback and this week. But we are enjoying, obviously hearing
- 27:55Speaker 1: our things that make us go hmm sting, any any,
- 27:59Speaker 1: any excuse to have what is that? Nineties music? I
- 28:01Speaker 1: think it must be nineties.
- 28:03Speaker 3: Yeah, or early two THOUSANDSNCA Music Bactory.
- 28:07Speaker 1: Oh it was anything to you.
- 28:09Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 28:10Speaker 1: Why doesn't one of us go to if only we
- 28:12Speaker 1: had small devices with all of the information ever known
- 28:15Speaker 1: to man in front of us. Things that make you
- 28:19Speaker 1: go okay, see and Sea Music Factory at Pollims or
- 28:25Speaker 1: nineteen ninety gosh, barely out of the eighties. Wow, there
- 28:30Speaker 1: we go. But here's something that made me go hm.
- 28:34Speaker 1: So you know, when you go to kids sport on
- 28:37Speaker 1: a Saturday morning, there's a lot of cars around. There's
- 28:40Speaker 1: a lot of a lot of jockeying for positions, for
- 28:43Speaker 1: parking spots and life, and everybody just needs to stay cool, right.
- 28:49Speaker 1: So we were waiting the other day to reverse park
- 28:54Speaker 1: into when I say we, Pete was doing it. We
- 28:57Speaker 1: just slowed down. Indicator was on was a wide street,
- 29:01Speaker 1: waiting for the person to come out of the parking
- 29:03Speaker 1: space so we could go. And it wasn't like we're
- 29:06Speaker 1: going to wait here and hope someone comes back to
- 29:08Speaker 1: their car. It was these people were pulling out. We
- 29:10Speaker 1: slowed down, and just as we're waiting for them to
- 29:14Speaker 1: come out, the woman behind us slams on the horn.
- 29:19Speaker 3: Not helpful, not helpful.
- 29:21Speaker 1: But also, and I've done some I've Darryl Milton this,
- 29:24Speaker 1: I've investigated this. It's illegal. You can't use your horn
- 29:28Speaker 1: for that.
- 29:28Speaker 3: Oh, you can only use your horn for danger, can you?
- 29:31Speaker 1: You are only over serious your horn.
- 29:34Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 29:34Speaker 1: The only time you're allowed to use your horn is
- 29:36Speaker 1: to avert danger, to draw attention to something that might
- 29:39Speaker 1: be an accident. So if we were about to reverse
- 29:42Speaker 1: into her, she could be so when we drive, use
- 29:45Speaker 1: it to embarrass your children when you drop them off
- 29:47Speaker 1: at school. You cannot do that. You can't. You can't
- 29:51Speaker 1: do the bibit when you drive off from your friend's
- 29:53Speaker 1: place having had a great barber I.
- 29:55Speaker 3: Mean, we will know what's the point of having children
- 29:57Speaker 3: if you can't do that to them?
- 29:58Speaker 1: Can't do it every day?
- 30:00Speaker 3: Do you know what the other this is just a
- 30:02Speaker 3: little diversion. We'll come back to your frustration in the second, Carolyn,
- 30:05Speaker 3: I love scaring people like so I've learned to stop
- 30:11Speaker 3: doing it to my husband because the meat traits threatens,
- 30:15Speaker 3: in all seriousness, to serve me with divorce papers if
- 30:17Speaker 3: I kept doing it. So I was like, okay, would
- 30:19Speaker 3: in that case? We have to have children, And that's
- 30:21Speaker 3: mainly why we had children. That plus three labor on
- 30:23Speaker 3: the farm. And I I love doing it to my kids,
- 30:28Speaker 3: but the meat tray gets so upset when I do it.
- 30:30Speaker 1: They just do that walking near the car and you'll
- 30:33Speaker 1: lay on the horn.
- 30:34Speaker 3: Oh, either that or anything, right. So the other day
- 30:38Speaker 3: I heard my son and his little friend who come
- 30:41Speaker 3: to our place before Rugby last week. The meat tray
- 30:44Speaker 3: picked them up from the bus and then dropped them
- 30:45Speaker 3: up to the house and I could hear them in
- 30:47Speaker 3: the garage, so I walked out. We've got like a
- 30:49Speaker 3: sliding door from the garage into the rest of the house,
- 30:52Speaker 3: and I walked out, and I put my face right
- 30:54Speaker 3: up to the garage door and just open it as
- 30:57Speaker 3: he opened, and I went rah, and they.
- 31:01Speaker 2: Oh a little bit. I come out.
- 31:03Speaker 3: If you did that, then you're so happy. But nobody
- 31:06Speaker 3: else is happy any well, yeah, yeah, until they start
- 31:09Speaker 3: doing it to you. They do do it to me
- 31:11Speaker 3: all the time. If I'm come home from work or
- 31:13Speaker 3: from like being away, and I walk into the house
- 31:16Speaker 3: at night, They'll do it to me in the same
- 31:18Speaker 3: place like at the garage door. They do it to
- 31:20Speaker 3: me all the time, but they're standing in the dark,
- 31:21Speaker 3: which is terrifying. But and I do I have to
- 31:24Speaker 3: say to myself self, you brought this on yourself, so
- 31:27Speaker 3: suck it. I don't think it's funny, But anyway, I.
- 31:30Speaker 1: Love watching those videos and the internet compilations of family
- 31:33Speaker 1: members scaring one another, and particularly where it's like one person,
- 31:38Speaker 1: usually usually a mother somewhere in their sixties, is just
- 31:43Speaker 1: getting harassed by their twenty something son all the time,
- 31:48Speaker 1: just getting caught with the same thing.
- 31:50Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, that's great.
- 31:54Speaker 1: We used to like to put a balloon and a
- 31:58Speaker 1: pin behind my door, so every time he would open
- 32:02Speaker 1: his door when he come home from school, open.
- 32:03Speaker 3: Its door in the bulloing. This is a continuation of
- 32:07Speaker 3: last week's series Get in Books.
- 32:11Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, but so no, So my household is a
- 32:14Speaker 1: big house, as in my husband is a big one
- 32:17Speaker 1: for tooting the horn and I just lose my mind
- 32:20Speaker 1: because it annoys me so much. So it doesn't it's
- 32:22Speaker 1: not happening quite as much anymore. But it's illegal. We're
- 32:26Speaker 1: only allowed to use the horns on our car to
- 32:29Speaker 1: avert danger. So even if you're sitting at the lights
- 32:32Speaker 1: and you do the very CURTI is the person in
- 32:34Speaker 1: front of you, oh yes, hasn't seen that the lights
- 32:38Speaker 1: turn green because they're looking at their phone or something.
- 32:40Speaker 1: The little courteous double bit illegal. I mean, I'll probably
- 32:46Speaker 1: get on that lady, but you it's like chillious. So
- 32:51Speaker 1: her beef with us was we mildly inconvenienced her, like
- 32:57Speaker 1: that's that is the extent of the crime that had
- 33:00Speaker 1: been committed to her that she felt she needed to
- 33:04Speaker 1: and lay on the horn too, was not? Oh wow, yeah,
- 33:07Speaker 1: and you know you're not in traffic. You are traffic.
- 33:13Speaker 1: Like if you're in a car, you're the traffic. Like,
- 33:15Speaker 1: so there's no point in getting angry at other people
- 33:18Speaker 1: who are the traffic because you're also the traffic.
- 33:21Speaker 3: Who's got their phone not on silent? Is that you?
- 33:24Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 33:24Speaker 3: And it's two rounds of drinks.
- 33:27Speaker 1: I think it's three.
- 33:30Speaker 2: Listen. I'm still waiting for my lunch for last year's
- 33:34Speaker 2: chipping com So let's just ease up on the I
- 33:37Speaker 2: need to show.
- 33:38Speaker 3: You're the only currently employed media professional here. You, of
- 33:40Speaker 3: all people should know that. I think that's fascinating though,
- 33:45Speaker 3: Like particularly if if you are the traffic around on
- 33:49Speaker 3: a Saturday morning around a children's sports area, Like, that's
- 33:52Speaker 3: the whole point. Take a chill pool. That is one
- 33:54Speaker 3: of the reasons I moved to the country. Yeah, not much.
- 33:57Speaker 3: A lot of beaches, millions of peaches.
- 34:02Speaker 1: Do you eat a lot of peaches? Yeah?
- 34:04Speaker 3: But I don't grow peaches here. Maybe I should. Anyway,
- 34:09Speaker 3: we eat a lot of peaches and we don't spend
- 34:10Speaker 3: time in traffic.
- 34:11Speaker 1: Pardon, where are peaches grown? What's it in your world?
- 34:14Speaker 1: It's Macadamia's avocado.
- 34:16Speaker 3: Avocados cows, sugarcane. What was that, Catherine? All the good stuff, snakes, eggs, tea.
- 34:28Speaker 3: We have twenty five chickens right, there is a lot
- 34:30Speaker 3: of eggs to be collected every day. Yep. My children
- 34:34Speaker 3: have a business selling eggs. That's how they get their
- 34:38Speaker 3: pocket money. We pay for the chuck food and we
- 34:42Speaker 3: can't keep up with demand. We don't have to move
- 34:44Speaker 3: to fifty chucks. Well, in ten years time we are.
- 34:47Speaker 3: You're going to say to be saying to me, what
- 34:49Speaker 3: do you guys do?
- 34:49Speaker 1: Oh?
- 34:50Speaker 3: We chicken farmers.
- 34:51Speaker 2: That's quite the strength that I don't know about.
- 34:56Speaker 1: My brother in law used to run like can egg
- 35:00Speaker 1: farm outside of Warwick, and he took me for a
- 35:03Speaker 1: tour of this giant shed that the chicks are in,
- 35:09Speaker 1: and he had to live on site because if like
- 35:12Speaker 1: the cooling broke, the heat generates so cleere. This is
- 35:16Speaker 1: not like battery hens either. It's a big, big barn
- 35:20Speaker 1: like thing. But so he had to be able to
- 35:23Speaker 1: get that cool get the windows at the top open
- 35:26Speaker 1: because the heat just generates so quickly from all of
- 35:29Speaker 1: all of the chickens. But sometimes they have to open
- 35:32Speaker 1: the doors at either end of this shed and they
- 35:35Speaker 1: can open the doors, and the chickens don't go out
- 35:37Speaker 1: because which is a bit sad really, because the chickens
- 35:40Speaker 1: don't go, oh, that's the door, we can go outside.
- 35:43Speaker 1: It like, they just go. They don't acknowledge it as
- 35:46Speaker 1: a change in the circumstances because their circumstances are just inside. Yeah,
- 35:51Speaker 1: so he doesn't work there anymore. But he doesn't work
- 35:55Speaker 1: there anymore because he was attacked by a rooster.
- 35:57Speaker 3: Oh, the rootses are horrible, psychotic and they've got big
- 36:02Speaker 3: hooks on the back of their feet. Yea, yeah, I
- 36:05Speaker 3: know lots of people who have been attacked by roosters.
- 36:08Speaker 3: So we had a rooster which we thought was a chicken. Anyway,
- 36:11Speaker 3: that rooster went in the pot because it was crowing
- 36:14Speaker 3: at two am. So they are noisy and they are
- 36:18Speaker 3: very very aggressive. But I think maybe one of the
- 36:21Speaker 3: reasons our eggs are so popular is because our chickens
- 36:23Speaker 3: do scratch around. Of course, the downside of that is
- 36:27Speaker 3: that the eagles. We've got a couple of wedge tiled
- 36:29Speaker 3: eagles who live on our farm. They think they're breakfast.
- 36:31Speaker 3: So we're constantly watching. I'm just watching out the window now,
- 36:35Speaker 3: going what are you going to do one day, you're
- 36:38Speaker 3: going to run out there with you Well, I just
- 36:40Speaker 3: run out there and go ba go away. Anyway, what
- 36:47Speaker 3: my eagle voice is better than the meat tray's duck voice.
- 36:50Speaker 3: He's having a war with ducks at the moment, who
- 36:52Speaker 3: are coming for the lived here for fourteen years with
- 36:54Speaker 3: a pool, and just this year the ducks have started
- 36:57Speaker 3: to sit on the edge of the pool. And you
- 36:58Speaker 3: work up in the morning, the big pass of du
- 37:00Speaker 3: put you on the pool, so you can't like, you
- 37:03Speaker 3: can't shoot them, obviously, So Matthew every morning runs out.
- 37:07Speaker 3: And the first time he did it, I thought, that's it.
- 37:09Speaker 3: He's gone mad. Who do I ring? He opened the
- 37:12Speaker 3: door and he rang out, Andy went bang bang bang
- 37:13Speaker 3: bang bang bank.
- 37:19Speaker 2: Yes, he's gone back to his childhood. When he's done, like's.
- 37:24Speaker 3: Oh my gosh, what are you doing?
- 37:29Speaker 1: Don't happen? Have you still have the ducks?
- 37:31Speaker 2: Oh?
- 37:32Speaker 3: The ducks are still coming. We just can't figure out
- 37:34Speaker 3: what to do about them other than a little pel.
- 37:36Speaker 2: Of gun and just give him a little sting in
- 37:37Speaker 2: the barm.
- 37:38Speaker 3: Is that allowed on that? Oh? I don't know, I
- 37:39Speaker 3: don't know. It's not my I just I am getting
- 37:41Speaker 3: an enormous amount of amusement out of.
- 37:43Speaker 1: Watching, and my stepmom sold their house and they moved
- 37:48Speaker 1: into a complex with townhouses and a pool, and Dad
- 37:52Speaker 1: retired at about the same time he became his His
- 37:55Speaker 1: job for like five years was dealing with the duck
- 37:59Speaker 1: problem at the complex. And like, they've got this elaborate
- 38:03Speaker 1: setup that Dad did up on top of a ladder,
- 38:06Speaker 1: which was probably ill advised, a fine fishing wire that
- 38:10Speaker 1: it's just it's in rows over. This wouldn't work for
- 38:13Speaker 1: your place. But this has got fence, you know, high
- 38:16Speaker 1: fences all around it, and so it's like a it's
- 38:19Speaker 1: almost like a strung instrument with these very precise my
- 38:22Speaker 1: father's a scientist, very precise man. And then there's all
- 38:26Speaker 1: these fake owls around and all sorts of fluttering things,
- 38:30Speaker 1: and well, I'm OK, so it could send your husband insane.
- 38:35Speaker 3: Oh could send so good anyway, the fun and games
- 38:42Speaker 3: involved in living on a farm. We had friends when
- 38:45Speaker 3: we were growing up who had a pet rooster. They
- 38:48Speaker 3: lived in Brisbane in the suburbs, and the rooster liked
- 38:52Speaker 3: the father and the daughter of the family, but not
- 38:55Speaker 3: the mother and didn't really have an opinion on the son,
- 38:58Speaker 3: but Kay would go. She went swimming by herself one
- 39:01Speaker 3: day in the pool and the rooster just came and
- 39:04Speaker 3: sat on her towel, and she had to stay in
- 39:06Speaker 3: the pool until her husband or her daughter gone home dealt.
- 39:10Speaker 2: With because screw them away this thing what.
- 39:19Speaker 1: I don't think that rooster lasted long after that, but
- 39:21Speaker 1: she was in the pool for hours just waiting for
- 39:23Speaker 1: someone to come home, because every time she tried to
- 39:25Speaker 1: get out, this rooster was having.
- 39:27Speaker 3: There's only one thing to say to that rooster, and
- 39:29Speaker 3: that's cockovin.
- 39:31Speaker 1: A beautiful Oh dear, well, here we go. We're now
- 39:35Speaker 1: a birding podcast.
- 39:37Speaker 3: I do like this one twitches and.
- 39:41Speaker 2: Will.
- 39:41Speaker 1: The other night at the pub when we're watching the game,
- 39:43Speaker 1: there were curlews all around.
- 39:45Speaker 3: They're amazing.
- 39:46Speaker 1: They are amazing, aren't they? They're quite little, baby, have
- 39:52Speaker 1: you heard?
- 39:53Speaker 3: Do you know the curlews? Here we go? This is
- 39:55Speaker 3: more twitching. Curlews used to be called the screaming woman
- 39:59Speaker 3: bird because in the bush at night they sound like
- 40:02Speaker 3: a screaming woman screaming with We had a curlew here
- 40:05Speaker 3: because one night it sounded like someone was being murdered
- 40:08Speaker 3: out in one of our paddicks, and we jumped up
- 40:11Speaker 3: and we got in the car and we Matthew jumped
- 40:15Speaker 3: in the full drive and went, look, my god, someone's
- 40:18Speaker 3: being murdered.
- 40:19Speaker 2: Ducks are killing a woman.
- 40:20Speaker 3: Now, oh, this is before the duck problem. We had
- 40:23Speaker 3: all problem. And this went on sort of sporadically for
- 40:27Speaker 3: a couple of months, and then it disappeared. So we
- 40:29Speaker 3: just assumed it must have been a curloo or there's
- 40:32Speaker 3: a serial killer operating on.
- 40:33Speaker 2: One of ours.
- 40:34Speaker 3: We can't find them anyway, Catherine, I shouldn't have told
- 40:37Speaker 3: you that story exactly.
- 40:38Speaker 2: I'm seeing you thinking I thought there were spiders and
- 40:42Speaker 2: snakes up there.
- 40:43Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 40:45Speaker 1: I'll just strap you, Catherine with another story and I'll
- 40:48Speaker 1: try to put this clip up on the socials. But
- 40:51Speaker 1: I saw a very short clip online the other day
- 40:54Speaker 1: of people and they're filming it from a train of
- 40:57Speaker 1: a coyote chasing a rode runner, and it was yeah, yeah,
- 41:04Speaker 1: and then obviously at the end the coyote had painted
- 41:06Speaker 1: a beautiful work of art of a tunnel against a
- 41:09Speaker 1: wall and an escape. They've got some acme explosive. No,
- 41:13Speaker 1: it's but it's it's classic. It's a really great little
- 41:16Speaker 1: actually a thing. Yeah, yeah, it's a bird.
- 41:20Speaker 2: Yeah get out.
- 41:21Speaker 1: Oh yes, please play certain I don't think the coyotes
- 41:24Speaker 1: are exactly like the ones that they have in merry melodies,
- 41:26Speaker 1: but I will I will have that. But yeah, we
- 41:29Speaker 1: should we should probably wrap this up. I just do
- 41:32Speaker 1: want to say, if I may, that Tarran from Epping
- 41:36Speaker 1: Rams has made an ext generation of netballers here in Sydney.
- 41:40Speaker 1: So that's good. Little l is going to be a
- 41:42Speaker 1: fine goal attack in her mother's footsteps. I'm sure Tarreen's
- 41:46Speaker 1: a dribbler who has just done a very good job
- 41:48Speaker 1: doing service for the next generation of netballers. Thank you
- 41:52Speaker 1: all right Wednesday.
- 41:54Speaker 3: We'll see you on Friday.
- 41:55Speaker 1: I'm Carolyn Swindell. I'm Gav Cox. Bye guys, Bye bye
- 42:03Speaker 2: M
