- 0:17Speaker 1: Seven.
- 0:18Speaker 2: Here Bran Sexton and John Oger as we go over
- 0:21Speaker 2: Sunday game against the Seahawks. Jaguars couldn't quite pull it out.
- 0:24Speaker 2: A tough day all around. Let's go over our big
- 0:26Speaker 2: things for you today, brought to you by g EH
- 0:28Speaker 2: Government Employees Health Association. Big thing number one is it
- 0:31Speaker 2: was a big play day. Explosives we saw from the
- 0:34Speaker 2: Seahawks and also a ton from the Seahawks pass rush.
- 0:37Speaker 2: William Cohen talked a little bit about what the other
- 0:40Speaker 2: team did well.
- 0:42Speaker 3: It just felt weird. They hit enough explosives and we
- 0:45Speaker 3: did it. That's the reality is. We didn't get after
- 0:48Speaker 3: their quarterback. They got after ours. They hit a couple
- 0:51Speaker 3: big plays in the past game and we did not.
- 0:53Speaker 3: So I don't think either team probably ran it as
- 0:56Speaker 3: well as we've been, you know, running the football. We
- 0:59Speaker 3: did come out with a mindset of us want to
- 1:01Speaker 3: throw the ball, but we've got to get after their
- 1:03Speaker 3: quarterback more as they got after ours.
- 1:07Speaker 2: Brian, We've been talking for a couple of weeks hoping
- 1:09Speaker 2: to see the explosives for the Jaguars offense. We saw
- 1:12Speaker 2: it with the Seahawks offense yesterday.
- 1:13Speaker 4: Yeah, Listen, I thought from the Jaguars offensive perspective, they
- 1:17Speaker 4: would be able to grab those explosives. Devin Witherspoon, they're
- 1:20Speaker 4: all pro corner, didn't play. Julian Love, one of the
- 1:22Speaker 4: better safeties in the NFC, didn't play. They were down
- 1:25Speaker 4: in total three starters in the secondary, and you felt
- 1:28Speaker 4: like the Jaguars offensive line, which had allowed only seven
- 1:31Speaker 4: sacks all season, would hold up well enough for Trevor
- 1:34Speaker 4: Lawrence to be able to make some plays down the field.
- 1:37Speaker 4: They didn't, and obviously the Jaguars didn't get open down
- 1:40Speaker 4: the field nearly enough to help their quarterback. It was
- 1:44Speaker 4: a frustrating day because some of the things that you
- 1:46Speaker 4: thought you knew about this team didn't come to pass.
- 1:50Speaker 5: Yeah, frustrating is the right war.
- 1:51Speaker 6: I mean, the Jaguars knew they were gonna have to throw,
- 1:55Speaker 6: they wanted to throw, and they did have time to throw,
- 1:58Speaker 6: and then when they did have time to throw, there
- 2:00Speaker 6: weren't guys.
- 2:01Speaker 5: Open or there are a couple of misses.
- 2:02Speaker 6: So look, this game is not a tragedy, but it
- 2:05Speaker 6: does show some things that have to be addressed moving
- 2:09Speaker 6: forward as a bad matchup form in retrospect. And they
- 2:13Speaker 6: still almost had a chance at the end, but yeah,
- 2:17Speaker 6: it was. It was a frustrating debt.
- 2:18Speaker 4: Well, not to move too far ahead, but I mean, John,
- 2:21Speaker 4: you have to get these matchups fixed because the Rams
- 2:25Speaker 4: are I think better than this team. They're better pass rushers.
- 2:28Speaker 4: They're going to create more problems for your quarterback. That's
- 2:32Speaker 4: the part. Going to London makes a lot of sense.
- 2:34Speaker 7: This week. You got to spend some time focused and
- 2:36Speaker 7: tighten it down.
- 2:37Speaker 2: Some other self inflicted wounds we saw yesterday are big thing.
- 2:40Speaker 2: Number two penalty problem. We've been seeing penalties been an
- 2:43Speaker 2: issue recurring different weeks, and it definitely was yesterday. Trevor
- 2:46Speaker 2: Lawrence talked a little bit about ownership and each individual
- 2:49Speaker 2: player taking ownership of their mistakes.
- 2:52Speaker 8: Everyone taken ownership of their part of it. Look at
- 2:55Speaker 8: today and say what if what can I do to
- 2:58Speaker 8: improve this? How can I help you guy next to
- 3:00Speaker 8: me or yourself or whatever. I think it's more just
- 3:02Speaker 8: focusing on what you can do as an individual, and
- 3:05Speaker 8: I think that's where some of the things might be
- 3:08Speaker 8: more of just like a lapse and focus at a
- 3:10Speaker 8: certain time that are little penalties like the.
- 3:12Speaker 7: Off sides or whatever it is.
- 3:14Speaker 8: It's just you know that consistent focus throughout the game
- 3:18Speaker 8: to where these things don't show up.
- 3:20Speaker 2: John, once again, we're in double digit penalties for this team.
- 3:23Speaker 2: At first we thought maybe getting used to the offense
- 3:25Speaker 2: now but still having some of the same issues.
- 3:27Speaker 6: Yeah, they talked afterward about the penalties taking away big plays,
- 3:31Speaker 6: and that didn't hurt them, I think quite as much
- 3:33Speaker 6: as they thought in the aftermath. It took away the
- 3:36Speaker 6: Brian Thomas junior touchdown, but they got to touchdown that drive.
- 3:40Speaker 6: But I thought, in looking back at it, where it
- 3:42Speaker 6: really hurt Brian was it seemed like every drive you
- 3:47Speaker 6: were second and thirteen and second and fifteen, and every
- 3:51Speaker 6: penalty created at least a ten yard situation against a
- 3:56Speaker 6: pass rush, and when you weren't running the ball anyway.
- 4:00Speaker 6: I just felt like those penalties made it so every
- 4:02Speaker 6: time you dropped back the Seahawks were in third and
- 4:05Speaker 6: go get.
- 4:06Speaker 7: Them, you played right into their hands.
- 4:08Speaker 4: It seems as if the penalties were really poorly timed.
- 4:11Speaker 4: And again I'm not talking about the Brian Thomas Travis Hunter,
- 4:14Speaker 4: how about Hunter longs holding penalty on a first down.
- 4:16Speaker 4: I mean, they were just there were enough of them
- 4:18Speaker 4: that made you say, are you are you gonna get
- 4:21Speaker 4: this thing tightened down today?
- 4:24Speaker 7: What were there twelve flags thrown against the Jaguars? Ten
- 4:26Speaker 7: of them were accepted.
- 4:28Speaker 4: How about you get a good return out to the
- 4:30Speaker 4: thirty three yard line and then Rayon Lane gets hit
- 4:33Speaker 4: with a personal foul.
- 4:35Speaker 7: And you go back to the eighteen.
- 4:36Speaker 4: I mean, just they just never were able to help themselves.
- 4:40Speaker 4: I think that's the message that I left the stadium with,
- 4:42Speaker 4: is this team couldn't help itself.
- 4:45Speaker 7: It just kept hurting itself all day.
- 4:48Speaker 2: Final big thing today to be six seven. We talked
- 4:50Speaker 2: a little bit about the O line problems, but how
- 4:51Speaker 2: about this. Heading into the game, Trevor Lawrence had been
- 4:54Speaker 2: sacked six times and he got sacked seven times in
- 4:57Speaker 2: the singular game against the Seahawks, Brian, do we have
- 4:59Speaker 2: an offense line problem? Obviously, center Robert Hainsey was injured,
- 5:03Speaker 2: he was not in. Joona Monheim was in. But we've
- 5:05Speaker 2: seen changes elsewhere on the line. Is it just that
- 5:07Speaker 2: or the Seahawks that good?
- 5:08Speaker 4: Well, listen, I think Seattle's very good. But DeMarcus Lawrence
- 5:11Speaker 4: is thirty three years old and he had two and
- 5:13Speaker 4: a half sacks his first two and a half of
- 5:15Speaker 4: the year.
- 5:15Speaker 7: That's a Jaguars problem.
- 5:17Speaker 4: Not having Hainsey probably kept some things from being settled
- 5:21Speaker 4: before the snap of the ball. A good center gets
- 5:23Speaker 4: everyone lined up and sees everything in front of him,
- 5:26Speaker 4: and not having Breton Strange, who's a big part of
- 5:29Speaker 4: what they do up front. Also, those two things hurt
- 5:32Speaker 4: them without a doubt. But the Jaguars should be better
- 5:36Speaker 4: than that. We just talked about how they're behind the
- 5:40Speaker 4: chains a lot, and that played right into the Seattle Seahawks' hands.
- 5:43Speaker 4: Buckle up because Jared Versu and Bryce Young are going
- 5:45Speaker 4: to be coming off the end this week. Brian Young
- 5:47Speaker 4: rather in London, and it's not going to get any easier.
- 5:50Speaker 4: They better figure some things out this week.
- 5:52Speaker 6: Yeah, I hope if in London you can run a
- 5:54Speaker 6: little better and offset some of that. But look, I
- 5:57Speaker 6: don't want to overreact, because there's always a tendency after
- 6:01Speaker 6: a game to forget that it's one to seventeen and
- 6:04Speaker 6: they have been a good offensive line that what happened
- 6:07Speaker 6: yesterday doesn't negate any of that. But you also do
- 6:11Speaker 6: not want to ignore and think, oh, we're going to
- 6:12Speaker 6: be fine.
- 6:14Speaker 5: It wasn't just seven sacks.
- 6:16Speaker 6: It was seeming somebody counted twenty five pressures that didn't
- 6:21Speaker 6: feel off.
- 6:22Speaker 7: I mean seventeen quarterback hits.
- 6:25Speaker 6: Yeah, so it's again they've played too well coming in
- 6:31Speaker 6: to say that there has to be major wholesale changes.
- 6:35Speaker 6: But this can't be what this team is or else.
- 6:39Speaker 6: Obviously they're not going anywhere.
- 6:41Speaker 2: Definitely some stuff to look at. Stay with the cerro
- 6:43Speaker 2: on JAGXAM coming up after the break. We'll look at
- 6:45Speaker 2: the tape from yesterday's game.
- 6:56Speaker 3: We come out, we don't really do much offense early on,
- 7:01Speaker 3: we score and miss the extra points. So it's like
- 7:04Speaker 3: those deflating moments. I think that's probably the theme of
- 7:08Speaker 3: today was positive, then something negative would occur and kind
- 7:12Speaker 3: of take the wind out of our sales. You know,
- 7:16Speaker 3: I thought it was a very honest locker room in
- 7:18Speaker 3: there in terms of understanding guys that we will not
- 7:22Speaker 3: beat good quality teams like this. Whether you're home on
- 7:24Speaker 3: the road in London on the West Coast doesn't matter.
- 7:27Speaker 3: If we continue to hurt ourselves and have these self
- 7:31Speaker 3: inflicted wounds, that ultimately is not me.
- 7:35Speaker 2: I always trusted I'm calling to be honest and give
- 7:37Speaker 2: you an honest review of what he thinks about the situation.
- 7:39Speaker 4: I just he's terrific, and I hope that people can
- 7:42Speaker 4: understand to have a coach like that who is so
- 7:45Speaker 4: transparent with you.
- 7:46Speaker 7: They don't.
- 7:47Speaker 4: He plays no games at the podium, which is different
- 7:50Speaker 4: from a lot of football coaches.
- 7:51Speaker 7: I really like him.
- 7:52Speaker 6: Yeah, And beyond that part of it, he also very
- 7:57Speaker 6: honestly assesses and doesn't let the team sort of make excuse.
- 8:02Speaker 6: I mean, he sees the game for what it is,
- 8:05Speaker 6: and I've been around coaches who sort of see the
- 8:07Speaker 6: game through different lenses. He seems to see it through
- 8:11Speaker 6: a very honest lens, and he gives you a chance to,
- 8:14Speaker 6: I think, for the team and the coaches to know
- 8:16Speaker 6: what's going on and fix it more realistically than if
- 8:19Speaker 6: you're not seeing it through that lens.
- 8:20Speaker 7: You know.
- 8:20Speaker 4: The other thing kay is if people have not seen
- 8:22Speaker 4: his post game locker room, he's so calm and composed.
- 8:26Speaker 4: He doesn't let the emotion overwhelm him sit in the
- 8:29Speaker 4: locker room, and he doesn't let the emotion speak in
- 8:31Speaker 4: front of the media. He's the right guy to lead
- 8:35Speaker 4: this team through this difficult week.
- 8:36Speaker 2: Yes, and sometimes that's hard to do right after a game.
- 8:38Speaker 2: I think we all can admit we get a little
- 8:40Speaker 2: emotional at times, so good to see that from your head, coach.
- 8:42Speaker 2: Let's take a look at some of the highlights. Things
- 8:44Speaker 2: are a really frustrating early, not a lot of offense on
- 8:47Speaker 2: either side to get things going. But we did see
- 8:49Speaker 2: BTJ get involved a little bit earlier in this game,
- 8:51Speaker 2: which was nice to see. And also Travis Hunter get
- 8:53Speaker 2: involved in the passing game. So let's take a look
- 8:55Speaker 2: at this because we've been talking for weeks. Obviously wanted
- 8:58Speaker 2: to get Brian Tooms Junior. He had I think eight
- 9:01Speaker 2: catches for ninety yards on the day, and obviously this
- 9:04Speaker 2: was a decent drive where they set some things up.
- 9:06Speaker 2: We love to see Travis Hunter juken out defenders, always enjoyable.
- 9:09Speaker 2: And then Brent Times Junior getting his first receiving touchdown
- 9:12Speaker 2: of the season. He got that run play touchdown earlier
- 9:16Speaker 2: on in the year, but finally feels like he's getting
- 9:17Speaker 2: going a little bit.
- 9:18Speaker 4: Listen, you have to keep going back to him, and
- 9:21Speaker 4: I know people are looking at the numbers with Travis
- 9:23Speaker 4: Hunter today and.
- 9:24Speaker 7: Saying, how do you get the ball to him more?
- 9:25Speaker 4: The jag Wars passing attack, John feels like it will
- 9:28Speaker 4: go through these two guys, and if the quarterback is
- 9:30Speaker 4: going to have a really good season, he's going to
- 9:33Speaker 4: have to have a really good relationship with twelve and seven.
- 9:35Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 9:36Speaker 6: I thought Brian Thomas Junior in the last couple of
- 9:38Speaker 6: weeks has taken some real steps to getting back to
- 9:40Speaker 6: where he was. I thought there were a couple yesterday
- 9:42Speaker 6: that he would probably like to have back as well.
- 9:44Speaker 6: But the steps are going in the right direction. And look,
- 9:48Speaker 6: the challenge in this is getting Travis Hunter the ball
- 9:53Speaker 6: in situations where he can do what he did.
- 9:55Speaker 5: What he did on that one play was spectacular.
- 9:59Speaker 6: You need that four or five times to have it
- 10:02Speaker 6: feel like a functioning part of the offense rather than
- 10:05Speaker 6: an outlier. Right now, Travis's still feel like outliers and
- 10:09Speaker 6: I think the coaching staff would love to get that more. Okay,
- 10:12Speaker 6: we've got four or five foundation pieces that we do well.
- 10:16Speaker 6: I think you need to get him in a situation
- 10:17Speaker 6: where he's more of a foundation piece.
- 10:19Speaker 2: To take a look at Jaxon Smith and Jigba's touchdown,
- 10:22Speaker 2: because I was very unwarm welcome. I think I wrote
- 10:25Speaker 2: for you, John to the new cornerback, Greg Newsom, junior.
- 10:29Speaker 2: I think his first play into the game at this point,
- 10:31Speaker 2: and I don't know what the defense was doing. I
- 10:33Speaker 2: don't know if he thought he had some safety help.
- 10:35Speaker 2: And I know there's a miscommunication. Obviously he went about one
- 10:37Speaker 2: and a half practices, so I'm going to assume maybe
- 10:39Speaker 2: you need to know where you need to be on what.
- 10:41Speaker 2: But this is one of the explosives we talked about
- 10:44Speaker 2: them connecting on and well, one play, one touchdown that
- 10:48Speaker 2: hurts you.
- 10:48Speaker 6: It's sometimes in this league it's about who has the
- 10:53Speaker 6: best players. And the Seahggs had the best wide receiver
- 10:55Speaker 6: in the game yesterday and no college I mean not
- 10:58Speaker 6: a not going to be TJ.
- 11:00Speaker 5: But this kid right now is one of the best.
- 11:02Speaker 6: Two or three receivers and he you know, I'm going
- 11:08Speaker 6: to assume that Greg k Newsom Junior is better than
- 11:14Speaker 6: that one played death Knight of career make. But that
- 11:18Speaker 6: was in a twenty twelve game when everything felt difficult.
- 11:24Speaker 6: As Liam said, exposes made the difference. It was probably
- 11:27Speaker 6: the play of the game. I mean set up.
- 11:29Speaker 4: Yeah, it looked like he stumbled a bit. He was
- 11:31Speaker 4: there and then stumbled and I don't know why. I
- 11:34Speaker 4: don't know maybe he was thinking do he was supposed
- 11:36Speaker 4: to be detail me.
- 11:36Speaker 2: It looked like he was generally so following him and
- 11:39Speaker 2: then kind of looked to see if he had help
- 11:41Speaker 2: with the safety and then that's where the step came in.
- 11:44Speaker 4: It's not surprising that a guy would make a mistake
- 11:46Speaker 4: when he was here for a practice and half.
- 11:48Speaker 2: As you mentioned, Yeah, but something to keep an eye
- 11:50Speaker 2: on going forward. Now another thing maybe to keep an
- 11:53Speaker 2: eye on going forward. Kim Little missed an extra point yesterday,
- 11:57Speaker 2: misses this field goal and at it's a lot of
- 12:00Speaker 2: decisions going down later in the game when you decide
- 12:03Speaker 2: to go for two point conversion. Like we talk about
- 12:05Speaker 2: special teams, but small special team's mistakes can lead to
- 12:09Speaker 2: bigger problems pre you team.
- 12:10Speaker 6: Well, that game early yesterday was very similar to the
- 12:13Speaker 6: Texans game where you know, some games in this in
- 12:18Speaker 6: the NFL now are momentum games would be side in
- 12:20Speaker 6: the second half.
- 12:21Speaker 5: This was one where every drive mattered.
- 12:23Speaker 6: I thought a huge play early was when they got
- 12:25Speaker 6: out of their own goal line early with the Rayon
- 12:29Speaker 6: lane play where he changed field position. It felt like
- 12:31Speaker 6: a game where those kind of plays were going to matter.
- 12:34Speaker 6: In those kind of games you give away four points.
- 12:38Speaker 6: The difference between trailing by seven and three at halftime,
- 12:42Speaker 6: it was mammoth. And I am a little worried about
- 12:45Speaker 6: Cambe Little because he's missed a couple in the last
- 12:48Speaker 6: couple of weeks. And I think he would tell you
- 12:52Speaker 6: fifty yard field goals in this league. Now you gotta
- 12:56Speaker 6: make him so. I think he's gonna be fine, but
- 12:58Speaker 6: he's got to show he's fine.
- 12:59Speaker 4: They got to give special teams scenario we haven't focused
- 13:01Speaker 4: on because there's been enough other issues. But Logan Cook,
- 13:04Speaker 4: you know, he had a beautiful punt the one that
- 13:06Speaker 4: Rayon Lane you just mentioned, and he had one late
- 13:08Speaker 4: in the ball game that pinned the Seahawks at their
- 13:10Speaker 4: own seven.
- 13:11Speaker 7: But you know, when he's punting the.
- 13:12Speaker 4: Ball from around the forty yard line on his side
- 13:15Speaker 4: of midfield, you expect that pooch punt to go down
- 13:18Speaker 4: inside the ten yard line. That's why he's a Pro
- 13:20Speaker 4: Bowl punter. He's missed several of those in recent weeks.
- 13:24Speaker 4: We heard earlier the head coach talked about the ups
- 13:26Speaker 4: and the downs, and the ups and the downs special
- 13:28Speaker 4: teams last year was that stable force for this football team,
- 13:31Speaker 4: that one thing you could count on. They have not
- 13:33Speaker 4: been through the first couple of weeks of the season.
- 13:35Speaker 4: You have got to get that part of the game,
- 13:39Speaker 4: that phase of the game back to playing consistently because
- 13:42Speaker 4: those are good players that you need to make big plays.
- 13:44Speaker 6: Yeah, they were big time and against Kansas City. I
- 13:47Speaker 6: don't want to sell him short because they've had some moments, Brian,
- 13:50Speaker 6: but the mysted kit, yeah, I mean it's the special
- 13:54Speaker 6: assistance have had their moments they like back.
- 13:58Speaker 2: Take a look at this Cooper cuts Cooper Cup touchdown.
- 14:00Speaker 2: He had a big catch to gain get a first
- 14:04Speaker 2: down earlier on in the drive and the defense. I
- 14:07Speaker 2: know there's some secondary changes, but it felt a little
- 14:11Speaker 2: disjointed at times. And maybe that's because they didn't have
- 14:13Speaker 2: a takeaway. But even here, Jordan Lewis doesn't get hit
- 14:15Speaker 2: his head around, which we never see from him. So
- 14:17Speaker 2: it just I credit to the Seahawks offense for setting
- 14:22Speaker 2: some good plays up. But that's tough.
- 14:24Speaker 4: This is the first drive of the third quarter and
- 14:26Speaker 4: it just felt like they came out of the locker
- 14:28Speaker 4: room on their heels.
- 14:31Speaker 2: Now what you want to see for.
- 14:32Speaker 6: It was a really really good throw in. Cooper Cup
- 14:37Speaker 6: is a very precise receiver. Jordan Lewis is a high
- 14:42Speaker 6: end player. I think he got beat by a high
- 14:43Speaker 6: end play here, but again a game of moments, and
- 14:51Speaker 6: the Seahawks made three or four big plays that the
- 14:54Speaker 6: Jaguars couldn't match, and you know in in games like that,
- 15:00Speaker 6: that's what decides him.
- 15:01Speaker 2: Let's take a look at the second touchdown drive and
- 15:04Speaker 2: Trevor converting on a fourth down earlier in that possession,
- 15:07Speaker 2: because I was watching this kind of go down and
- 15:11Speaker 2: you're like, oh no, it kind of felt like one
- 15:13Speaker 2: of those I'm going to throw across the field and
- 15:14Speaker 2: intercepted pick six, but he connected Hunter long, So I
- 15:17Speaker 2: give credit where credit is due, because I wasn't quite
- 15:20Speaker 2: sure if that was going.
- 15:22Speaker 4: I tried to tell some people in the radio last
- 15:24Speaker 4: night and then this morning, you know, walking the dog
- 15:26Speaker 4: in my neighborhood.
- 15:27Speaker 7: He didn't play as bad as people. What a point, right,
- 15:29Speaker 7: He didn't throw interceptions.
- 15:31Speaker 4: He didn't fumble the ball, and then he makes that
- 15:33Speaker 4: throw where he's rolling to his right, and even that
- 15:36Speaker 4: one there where he's stepping up into the pocket. He's
- 15:38Speaker 4: capable of playing at a higher level and they're going
- 15:41Speaker 4: to need him. John to make these kinds of plays
- 15:44Speaker 4: on Sunday against the Rams and going forward. These are
- 15:47Speaker 4: the kind of plays where the quarterback elevates his team.
- 15:49Speaker 4: That's a big fourth down.
- 15:51Speaker 6: I thought there was a little in the postgame criticism
- 15:53Speaker 6: of Trevor. I thought there was a little preconception, if
- 15:56Speaker 6: you will, of people assuming, oh, he's playing bad. You know,
- 16:02Speaker 6: I haven't really had a chance to look and see
- 16:04Speaker 6: what was opened downfield, and some of the hold the
- 16:06Speaker 6: ball plays. Sometimes when a quarterback holds the ball, fans
- 16:09Speaker 6: get mad at him, and if he had thrown the ball,
- 16:11Speaker 6: it's a pick and then they get really mad. So
- 16:15Speaker 6: the numbers and the moments suggest that he was okay.
- 16:20Speaker 6: I think what people are waiting for and we haven't
- 16:22Speaker 6: seen yet is the lift the team in the passing
- 16:27Speaker 6: game moment that we just haven't seen and.
- 16:32Speaker 7: I'm waiting. Yeah.
- 16:33Speaker 4: Well, that fourth down throw back across the field, dangerous
- 16:35Speaker 4: as it may be, felt like it was the cusp
- 16:37Speaker 4: of some of those When you pay a guy and
- 16:39Speaker 4: here's your franchise quarterback, it's fair to expect him to
- 16:43Speaker 4: make those kinds of plays.
- 16:44Speaker 7: They're going to need him.
- 16:45Speaker 2: Oh, there's lots of expectations and they are definitely going
- 16:48Speaker 2: to need them. Stay with us. We'll give you our
- 16:49Speaker 2: hot takes here on jagxam after the break jagxam and
- 16:56Speaker 2: Hot Takes Today brought to you by Firehouse Subs.
- 17:00Speaker 1: That's our lifeblood. I mean, we need turnovers. We need
- 17:03Speaker 1: turnovers to win games. And I honestly feel like we
- 17:05Speaker 1: could have got a few turnovers and you know, get
- 17:08Speaker 1: the football back to the offense and you know advantageous
- 17:11Speaker 1: you know positions. But that didn't happen. But like I said,
- 17:14Speaker 1: guys fought, we fought back. It's just wasn't good enough.
- 17:18Speaker 2: Jeoran Lewis one of your captains talking about not getting
- 17:22Speaker 2: any takeaways for the first game this season against the Seahawks,
- 17:24Speaker 2: and I'm going to go first day with my hot
- 17:26Speaker 2: take as it kind of leads right into that. So
- 17:28Speaker 2: mine was I feel a strength was masking up some
- 17:31Speaker 2: of the weaknesses on defense. Now by no means so
- 17:33Speaker 2: I think this is a weak defense, But I think
- 17:35Speaker 2: when you get takeaways that can erase a lot of
- 17:37Speaker 2: other issues that may be sprouting up at times on defense.
- 17:41Speaker 2: If they're allowing big players, but then you get a takeaway,
- 17:43Speaker 2: doesn't really matter like when the Chiefs are knocking on
- 17:45Speaker 2: the door about to score, but Devin Lloyd takes it
- 17:47Speaker 2: back nine nine yards the other way, you don't notice
- 17:49Speaker 2: as much about what was allowed on the drive. So
- 17:51Speaker 2: I think for the defense, just focusing in on that communication,
- 17:54Speaker 2: especially now on the back end with some new players
- 17:56Speaker 2: out there in terms of the secondary, is important for
- 17:59Speaker 2: them week. Also, we didn't see Devin Lloyd was on
- 18:02Speaker 2: and off the field during that game. We saw his
- 18:03Speaker 2: presence was missed out there. So just increasing that communication,
- 18:07Speaker 2: getting better upfront as well, getting more pressure against the quarterback.
- 18:11Speaker 2: I know Treyvon Walker's out there with a club, but
- 18:13Speaker 2: not let yes hang your hat on takeaways. That is
- 18:16Speaker 2: always excellent to have, but kind of getting down to
- 18:18Speaker 2: the fundamentals again, I think is important and I think you.
- 18:20Speaker 4: Could expand that to include the offense too. When the
- 18:23Speaker 4: defense grabs fourteen takeaways in five games, it overcomes a
- 18:28Speaker 4: lot of offensive mistakes, and we certainly saw that the
- 18:31Speaker 4: takeaways we're a huge factor. You better get some this
- 18:34Speaker 4: week because the Rams are an excellent football team.
- 18:36Speaker 6: Yeah, I think what bodes well in this conversation is
- 18:40Speaker 6: the fact that they stopped the run, so they're continuing
- 18:43Speaker 6: to have that as a strength, and you've got to
- 18:45Speaker 6: have that defensively. Williams said it after the game. You
- 18:49Speaker 6: have to pressure the quarterback on the opposing team usually
- 18:54Speaker 6: over seventeen games, if you're not pressuring the quarterback consistently,
- 18:58Speaker 6: you're not going to get a league leading level of takeaways.
- 19:02Speaker 2: Our John, let's get your hot take force today.
- 19:05Speaker 5: You know, time to tighten up. And it feels sort
- 19:08Speaker 5: of obvious.
- 19:08Speaker 6: It's probably been a theme of the show, but they've
- 19:11Speaker 6: sort of been talking about it all year. There was
- 19:13Speaker 6: an urgency when Liam talked about it. But the ten penalties,
- 19:18Speaker 6: a couple of key drops, four points left on the
- 19:21Speaker 6: field with a kicker. This is a one score, small
- 19:27Speaker 6: points league, and when you give away five, six, seven points,
- 19:34Speaker 6: the other team doesn't want to give those back and
- 19:37Speaker 6: they didn't.
- 19:38Speaker 7: So get right.
- 19:38Speaker 6: So that's you got to tighten it up. And it's
- 19:41Speaker 6: been a theme what since March Liam's he feels like
- 19:46Speaker 6: a broken record on that one, and I'm not going
- 19:48Speaker 6: to you know, I'm sure he feels like a broken record.
- 19:51Speaker 6: You can't beat good teams given away situations.
- 19:54Speaker 4: Well, if we go back to the preseason, they had
- 19:57Speaker 4: a poor outing on the practice field and in a game,
- 20:01Speaker 4: and the very next day he just kept hammering away.
- 20:04Speaker 4: They lined up, they practiced lining up. You don't have
- 20:07Speaker 4: a lot of time to do that kind of stuff
- 20:09Speaker 4: at this time of the year. But he stood at
- 20:11Speaker 4: the podium yesterday John and said.
- 20:12Speaker 7: This is on me.
- 20:13Speaker 4: Oh, I got the distinctive impression that he's going to
- 20:16Speaker 4: fix it.
- 20:17Speaker 2: If it's gone on me, we'll ask you fix Rian.
- 20:20Speaker 2: What's your hot take for us?
- 20:21Speaker 4: All right, so I'm going not ready for primetime obviously,
- 20:23Speaker 4: John and Ky they won the primetime game against Kansas City,
- 20:26Speaker 4: but the way they came out yesterday felt like there
- 20:29Speaker 4: was some hangover. Maybe it was the short week, Maybe
- 20:32Speaker 4: they couldn't handle the prosperity. You know, Liam talks all
- 20:35Speaker 4: the time about handling adversity, but this team has struggled
- 20:38Speaker 4: at times.
- 20:38Speaker 7: To handle the prosperity when it comes its way.
- 20:41Speaker 4: And look, you've got a primetime game essentially coming up
- 20:44Speaker 4: Sunday at Wembley, because you're the only game in that
- 20:47Speaker 4: nine to thirty am spot.
- 20:48Speaker 7: So follow me here. That was a primetime game yesterday.
- 20:52Speaker 4: You had something to prove that you could handle playing
- 20:55Speaker 4: on Monday and beating a good team, and then beating
- 20:58Speaker 4: a good team at home on sun Day and go
- 21:00Speaker 4: to London, and they just they weren't ready for yesterday.
- 21:03Speaker 4: And I watched practice lunch. We get it looked like
- 21:05Speaker 4: they had good on practice field, right, it looked. Don't
- 21:08Speaker 4: how the meeting rooms went, but they weren't ready when
- 21:11Speaker 4: the game started. You know, the quarterback comes out and
- 21:14Speaker 4: makes the same kind of silly mistake first and ten
- 21:17Speaker 4: and he takes a two yard sack. Again it's not huge,
- 21:21Speaker 4: but throw the ball away. Don't give up two yards
- 21:23Speaker 4: because two or four or five they all kind of
- 21:25Speaker 4: add up. So it just they got off to a
- 21:27Speaker 4: bad start. It felt like they couldn't handle the prosperity.
- 21:29Speaker 4: You got primetime Sunday against the La Rams. Better be
- 21:32Speaker 4: ready this week.
- 21:33Speaker 5: Yeah, there are.
- 21:35Speaker 6: There are tricky parts of every NFL schedule, and yesterday
- 21:38Speaker 6: was a tricky part that really really good teams. I
- 21:42Speaker 6: said before the game, if they win this game, effect,
- 21:44Speaker 6: they're really good, because that was a difficult six days
- 21:47Speaker 6: after London next, nobody thinks about the Seahawks except for
- 21:51Speaker 6: the fact that they always beat people. So that felt
- 21:55Speaker 6: to me like they'd come out and beat a good
- 21:58Speaker 6: veteran team, and I felt like, Okay, there a team
- 22:00Speaker 6: that can navigate this. They're not a team that can
- 22:02Speaker 6: navigate that yet.
- 22:03Speaker 4: If you go and beat the Rams, right, and that's
- 22:06Speaker 4: a tall order, But if you go beat the Rams,
- 22:08Speaker 4: will you will you be.
- 22:09Speaker 7: Able to say they were a good team.
- 22:11Speaker 5: I think they're good.
- 22:12Speaker 7: I mean, I'm sorry, but we think the.
- 22:13Speaker 5: Rams are a good team. I think the day Wars
- 22:16Speaker 5: are good.
- 22:16Speaker 6: There's a difference between good and a team that can
- 22:19Speaker 6: go reel off twelve and get into situations where they're
- 22:22Speaker 6: in good shape for the playoffs.
- 22:23Speaker 5: I don't think they're twelve win team.
- 22:24Speaker 7: I didn't ask that the right way.
- 22:25Speaker 4: You were talking about how if you come off Kansas
- 22:28Speaker 4: City and beat Seattle you would put them in a
- 22:31Speaker 4: maybe an upper restaurant from where they might sit in
- 22:33Speaker 4: your mind today. If you come off the loss to
- 22:36Speaker 4: Seattle and you go and beat the Rams in Wembley,
- 22:39Speaker 4: does it put them up there or does it just
- 22:41Speaker 4: solidify that they're Okay?
- 22:44Speaker 5: I think they're a ten win team, and so uh,
- 22:50Speaker 5: it'd be better than losing.
- 22:51Speaker 7: Be a nicer flight home, for sure.
- 22:53Speaker 2: Winning better than losing.
- 22:54Speaker 7: Way you get down. We should write down in the
- 22:56Speaker 7: studio here somewhere say us.
- 22:58Speaker 2: We'll tell you what's coming up the rest of the
- 22:59Speaker 2: week because teams getting ready to travel to London, DAGs. Fans,
- 23:06Speaker 2: if you want customized Jaguars furniture for your home, check

- 23:11Speaker 2: Zip Chair is furniture for fans.
- 23:15Speaker 3: And make sure we're in alignment with being on the
- 23:19Speaker 3: point precision operation in all three phases. That's what I'm
- 23:26Speaker 3: asking and that's where we got to go.
- 23:28Speaker 7: Take the next deck, guys, because that.
- 23:30Speaker 5: Is what's holding us back.
- 23:32Speaker 2: Man.
- 23:32Speaker 3: We have got by and we've won some of these
- 23:35Speaker 3: games because of this.
- 23:38Speaker 7: Right a lot.
- 23:39Speaker 3: We made a lot of great places, but because we
- 23:41Speaker 3: got hard, because we played but in times where you
- 23:45Speaker 3: got to go execute and not hurt ourselves.
- 23:48Speaker 7: Man, that showed up to you.
- 23:50Speaker 2: That's just the reality.
- 23:51Speaker 7: That's the reality.
- 23:54Speaker 2: It's Jaguars locker room post a loss of Seattle Seahawks.
- 23:58Speaker 2: We saw them do this after the Bengals game as well,
- 24:00Speaker 2: some really cool access. We always kind of hear from
- 24:03Speaker 2: them after the win, but now we're hearing from them
- 24:04Speaker 2: after the lawsuits too.
- 24:05Speaker 4: You know Kai the thirty one years of doing this,
- 24:07Speaker 4: I don't remember. First of all, not every coach would
- 24:09Speaker 4: let us come in after a win. Let want a
- 24:11Speaker 4: loss and John, I mean, cameras are sure, they're everywhere now,
- 24:15Speaker 4: so maybe people take for granted to just see things
- 24:18Speaker 4: on video. But that's remarkable that he would let you
- 24:21Speaker 4: in in a very private, frustrating moment to hear what
- 24:25Speaker 4: he's saying to his football team. It may become commonplace
- 24:27Speaker 4: in years to come with younger coaches who were used
- 24:30Speaker 4: to it, but for right now, you're right guy.
- 24:32Speaker 7: It's incredible access.
- 24:33Speaker 6: Yeah, and that being said to say yes, you're right.
- 24:37Speaker 6: And I think it does show people who are watching
- 24:40Speaker 6: this and the hardcore people watching this that what he's
- 24:43Speaker 6: saying publicly publicly is real. So far, they've won because
- 24:48Speaker 6: of heart, and the execution has to get better. It's
- 24:51Speaker 6: shows some insight into how he coaches. So what we
- 24:54Speaker 6: referenced earlier, there's no bs and no frills, right, it's
- 24:59Speaker 6: this is what we get to do and here's our expectation.
- 25:03Speaker 6: We all got to go do it. And so yeah,
- 25:06Speaker 6: it's impressive. He's impressive and I feel good about it
- 25:08Speaker 6: going forward, all right, here's the deal.
- 25:10Speaker 2: We're heading to London. As we mentioned, the team's packing
- 25:13Speaker 2: up going to head out on Monday. We will be
- 25:15Speaker 2: back here on jagsam on a Wednesday and Thursday, but
- 25:18Speaker 2: we'll be coming to you from the Grove, the resort
- 25:21Speaker 2: we stay at in London for the game as the
- 25:22Speaker 2: Jaguars get prepared to take on the Rams. So we
- 25:25Speaker 2: will see you later this week from London with Jagsam.
