- 0:04Speaker 1: Welcome to pick up and deliver the podcast where I
- 0:06Speaker 1: pick up my audio recorders, I step out for a
- 0:08Speaker 1: walk and deliver an episode to you while I stroll around.
- 0:11Speaker 1: I'm Brendan Riley. Well, greetings, listeners. It's a lovely day
- 0:23Speaker 1: here in suburban Chicago. The weather is brisk, but not
- 0:26Speaker 1: outragiously cold. It's kind of icy, so I'm having to
- 0:29Speaker 1: be a little careful about where i walk, but generally
- 0:32Speaker 1: it's a pleasant day. I am taking a walk up
- 0:36Speaker 1: to the library and walk around a little bit and
- 0:39Speaker 1: I'll come back. And I thought I would talk with
- 0:41Speaker 1: you a little bit about games. I noticed that about
- 0:43Speaker 1: ten episodes ago I did a look back, and I
- 0:46Speaker 1: thought it would be fun to do one more look
- 0:48Speaker 1: back before the end of the year. I don't know
- 0:49Speaker 1: when I'll do the next one, but I may have
- 0:52Speaker 1: to shift into a different pattern because this is the
- 0:55Speaker 1: first year where I felt like I just hadn't played
- 0:57Speaker 1: enough games to really have enough to talk about.
- 1:01Speaker 2: I'll get into it, so for those of you who
- 1:03Speaker 2: are new to the podcast, Welcome.
- 1:07Speaker 1: A look back is an episode where I obviously look
- 1:10Speaker 1: back at a year, and I mean I do a
- 1:15Speaker 1: couple different ones sometimes I'll just look back four seasons.
- 1:17Speaker 1: That's something I made a podcast episode about and see
- 1:19Speaker 1: like what was I doing then other times. Because I
- 1:22Speaker 1: started doing the podcast six years ago and since then,
- 1:26Speaker 1: I've done kind of a Game of the year every year.
- 1:28Speaker 1: There are a bunch of years before the podcast came
- 1:31Speaker 1: out that I wasn't doing the podcast yet. So what
- 1:34Speaker 1: I'm doing is working my way backwards in time doing
- 1:37Speaker 1: game of the year of previous years, sort of looking back.
- 1:40Speaker 1: So for this episode, I did a Game of the
- 1:42Speaker 1: Year of twenty ten, or top five games of the
- 1:45Speaker 1: year of twenty ten.
- 1:47Speaker 2: Again. How I do this search is I go.
- 1:49Speaker 1: Into Board Game Geek and I do advanced search, and
- 1:52Speaker 1: I put in twenty ten as the publication.
- 1:54Speaker 2: Year, and then I go through.
- 1:57Speaker 1: Usually what I do is I go through the top
- 2:00Speaker 1: one thousand ranked game or the top all the games
- 2:03Speaker 1: from twenty ten in the Board Game Geek top ten thousand,
- 2:08Speaker 1: and markdown whether I've played them or not, and then
- 2:11Speaker 1: I take that list and I put it in order
- 2:14Speaker 1: to figure out my top five. This time, I actually
- 2:17Speaker 1: went through the top twenty thousand games. There weren't there
- 2:21Speaker 1: were quite a few from twenty ten in the ten
- 2:24Speaker 1: to twenty thousand ranking on Board Game Geek, but not
- 2:27Speaker 1: very many I had played. The other thing I do
- 2:29Speaker 1: is if a game is in my top fifty, it's
- 2:32Speaker 1: fair to say it would be in the top five
- 2:35Speaker 1: of my collection of the year. So instead I give
- 2:39Speaker 1: those a pass. They get a bye, they get mentioned
- 2:41Speaker 1: as games I think very highly of, and then I
- 2:44Speaker 1: talk about other games. They don't get to be in
- 2:46Speaker 1: the top five because they're already in my top fifty. Now.
- 2:49Speaker 1: As you know, I'm working on a new top fifty.
- 2:50Speaker 1: I'm nearly done with it, and that will come out
- 2:53Speaker 1: in a couple of weeks. In the meantime, I'm using
- 2:55Speaker 1: the top fifty that I made almost three years ago now,
- 2:58Speaker 1: so it's a little outdated but still holds up pretty well.
- 3:03Speaker 1: All right, well, let's get into it. So there are
- 3:05Speaker 1: two games from twenty ten that are in my top
- 3:07Speaker 1: fifty already, and so I'm not considering them here. The
- 3:11Speaker 1: first of these is Seven Wonders. As of last check,
- 3:14Speaker 1: I believe it was number forty nine and Seven Wonders
- 3:17Speaker 1: is an excellent card drafting, tableau building game. I've talked
- 3:20Speaker 1: about it a lot. It remains a favorite of mine
- 3:24Speaker 1: now the other one, this is I don't know. I
- 3:26Speaker 1: don't know if this counts or not. The other one
- 3:28Speaker 1: is London. And the thing is, I've only played London
- 3:30Speaker 1: second Edition, which came out maybe five years after this,
- 3:34Speaker 1: in twenty ten.
- 3:35Speaker 2: We have Martin.
- 3:35Speaker 1: Wallace's first version of London, which I have not actually played.
- 3:39Speaker 1: But I'm still going to exclude it from the list
- 3:42Speaker 1: because it would be hard to I mean, I could
- 3:44Speaker 1: just ignore it because I haven't played it, but that
- 3:46Speaker 1: feels not right because I do really like London and
- 3:49Speaker 1: I don't know how different the two are, so I
- 3:51Speaker 1: am excluding it. But when you're looking at the top fifty,
- 3:54Speaker 1: what you're looking at is London second Edition, not London
- 3:57Speaker 1: first Edition. All right, So let's get into it. My
- 3:59Speaker 1: top five games in backwards order, so least number five
- 4:04Speaker 1: first and.
- 4:05Speaker 2: Working out my way to number one. Number five is
- 4:07Speaker 2: K two.
- 4:08Speaker 1: K two is an interesting game in which you are
- 4:12Speaker 1: trying to lead a climb up one of the world's
- 4:18Speaker 1: most dangerous mountains, if not the world's most dangerous mountain.
- 4:22Speaker 1: Everest is also very dangerous, but I think more people
- 4:24Speaker 1: have died on K two. Not one hundred percent sure
- 4:26Speaker 1: about that, but it is a more dangerous climb and
- 4:29Speaker 1: a more difficult one. My understanding is it's a more
- 4:31Speaker 1: technically challenging climb. As you know from listening to the
- 4:35Speaker 1: occasional episode of this show. I do really like mountain
- 4:38Speaker 1: climbing as a subject of study. I wouldn't want to
- 4:41Speaker 1: do it myself because it's terrifying and extremely dangerous, but
- 4:46Speaker 1: I think it's a fascinating thing that people do, and
- 4:49Speaker 1: so I've watched movies and seen books and stuff, and
- 4:52Speaker 1: K two is a really interesting game about that idea.
- 4:56Speaker 1: K two plays on the fact that once you get
- 4:58Speaker 1: about a certain height you are you start dying. They
- 5:01Speaker 1: call it the death zone because oxygen just isn't strong
- 5:04Speaker 1: enough to support human life, and so your body starts dying.
- 5:07Speaker 1: And what you're trying to do is get to the
- 5:10Speaker 1: top of the mountain and then get back down alive.
- 5:12Speaker 2: If you don't make it back down alive, it doesn't count.
- 5:15Speaker 1: So it's about which team got the highest and made
- 5:18Speaker 1: it back down. An interesting game, really fun, challenging one.
- 5:25Speaker 2: That's K two.
- 5:26Speaker 1: Next up we have Space Hulk Death Angel the card game.
- 5:30Speaker 1: This is a game from Fantasy Flight Games. It was
- 5:32Speaker 1: It is an incredibly difficult, very luck dependent card game
- 5:37Speaker 1: in which you play space marines making your way into
- 5:42Speaker 1: a abandoned space hulk that's full of gene stealers.
- 5:46Speaker 2: And basically what you do is you go in. You
- 5:48Speaker 2: set up this line of.
- 5:49Speaker 1: Cards, and you have this line of soldiers who are
- 5:52Speaker 1: working your way deeper and deeper into the ship, and
- 5:56Speaker 1: monsters are popping out on all sides, and basically you
- 5:58Speaker 1: have to use all your resources to move them, to
- 6:01Speaker 1: kill them, to do everything you can to kind of
- 6:04Speaker 1: hold them off, and then if you have to attack them,
- 6:06Speaker 1: you roll these dice, and the dice are just terrible.
- 6:09Speaker 1: I think you get one six. There's two successes on
- 6:12Speaker 1: the six sided die, so it's very easy to take
- 6:15Speaker 1: your chances at attacking the gene stealers and then finding
- 6:19Speaker 1: yourself dead or losing soldiers quickly. It's a very difficult
- 6:22Speaker 1: co op game that is really luck dependent, but it's
- 6:25Speaker 1: pretty fun. It's a game I've played a lot of times,
- 6:27Speaker 1: but I haven't played it much in the recent years,
- 6:30Speaker 1: so it's probably something I should bust out again to
- 6:31Speaker 1: see if I still like it. It's a great solo game.
- 6:34Speaker 1: I don't really think it's all that good at even
- 6:36Speaker 1: not two players, just because it's I think it's fun
- 6:39Speaker 1: to make decisions for yourself and then you don't feel
- 6:41Speaker 1: bad if the luck doesn't go your way. This game
- 6:45Speaker 1: was already hard to find when I bought it in
- 6:47Speaker 1: like twenty twelve or twenty thirteen. Now it's very, very
- 6:51Speaker 1: difficult to find, I understand. But if you get a
- 6:54Speaker 1: chance to play, you should. That's Space Hulled Death Angel
- 6:57Speaker 1: my number four from twenty ten. Mountain Goats. I like
- 7:01Speaker 1: this one because it's named after a cool band. No,
- 7:03Speaker 1: that's not the case. The band is cool. I do
- 7:06Speaker 1: like the band Mountain Goats very much. If you haven't
- 7:09Speaker 1: listened to them, it's worth it, I think. But I
- 7:12Speaker 1: bring this game up because it is an interesting shared
- 7:17Speaker 1: of competitive area control game. You play these Goats Climbing Mountains.
- 7:21Speaker 1: I was republished like two or three years ago. I've
- 7:23Speaker 1: only played the new version. I don't know what the
- 7:25Speaker 1: old version was like. But it's got really interesting mechanism
- 7:30Speaker 1: where you're trying to you get to the top of
- 7:32Speaker 1: the mountain and then you sort of hold it and
- 7:34Speaker 1: you get points as long as you're on top of
- 7:36Speaker 1: the mountain, and other people will try to get up
- 7:39Speaker 1: there and boot you off. I haven't played it a
- 7:41Speaker 1: bunch of times. I don't remember it in a ton
- 7:43Speaker 1: of detail, but I do remember being pretty good, and
- 7:45Speaker 1: it's certainly what I would try again if I had
- 7:48Speaker 1: the opportunity. So that's Mountain Goats. My number two game
- 7:52Speaker 1: from twenty twenty ten is Twentieth Century. Twentieth Century is
- 7:56Speaker 1: the third game from one of my favorite Designersdimirsuki or Suchi.
- 8:02Speaker 1: His first game was League of six in the second
- 8:04Speaker 1: game was Shipyard in Twentieth Century was his third game.
- 8:07Speaker 1: It is sort of a civilization tableau builder in which
- 8:12Speaker 1: you're building a city or a small city state and
- 8:15Speaker 1: you're trying to modernize, maximize your industrial capacity and the
- 8:21Speaker 1: happiness of your people while avoiding getting overwhelmed with trash.
- 8:26Speaker 1: One of the big things in the game is managing
- 8:28Speaker 1: your pollution and your trash to keep the happiness of
- 8:32Speaker 1: your people solid. It's got this weird betting mechanism that
- 8:36Speaker 1: isn't It feels a little strange, and that's probably why
- 8:39Speaker 1: it never really took off. But it's an interesting game
- 8:42Speaker 1: that I like quite a bit and makes me want
- 8:45Speaker 1: Just talking about it makes you want to pull it
- 8:46Speaker 1: out again, which is the marker of a good game.
- 8:48Speaker 1: I think you have talking about it makes me want
- 8:50Speaker 1: to play it again, and this is the case with
- 8:52Speaker 1: Twentieth Century from Vladimir Suci, my number two game from
- 8:56Speaker 1: twenty ten. And finally, the top of the list for
- 8:58Speaker 1: twenty ten is Innovation. This is a Carl Chuttick game.
- 9:02Speaker 1: I don't think I'm giving too much away when I
- 9:04Speaker 1: say I'm pretty sure this is in my top fifty.
- 9:06Speaker 1: I haven't finished it yet, but I'm sure sure it's there.
- 9:09Speaker 1: Innovation is one of three really really great Carl Chuttick
- 9:14Speaker 1: multi use card games, and it is the most different
- 9:17Speaker 1: from the other two. Mataynai is sort of seen as
- 9:20Speaker 1: a kind of spiritual successor to Glory to Rome. He
- 9:23Speaker 1: uses a lot of the same mechanism. Matinai works very
- 9:27Speaker 1: differently but still has this idea of multi use cards.
- 9:31Speaker 2: And actually they're not. Are they multi use cards? Not really?
- 9:35Speaker 1: I mean the cards have a bunch of different stuff
- 9:38Speaker 1: on them, but I don't know that I would call
- 9:40Speaker 1: them multi use interesting, but it is really good. There's
- 9:44Speaker 1: really interesting interplay between the different cards. There's a lot
- 9:48Speaker 1: of luck involved, but generally people who are better at
- 9:50Speaker 1: the game can beat people who aren't. It's not just
- 9:52Speaker 1: totally a luckfest, and it has some of that patented
- 9:56Speaker 1: cards that feel too powerful stuff that is so which
- 10:00Speaker 1: a big part of Carl chutuk designs. I really like it.
- 10:03Speaker 1: It's a game I've played many, many times, and I
- 10:06Speaker 1: will continue to play. I'm very excitedly waiting for the
- 10:08Speaker 1: innovation ultimate addition, which should be coming soon. I'm not
- 10:13Speaker 1: sure exactly when, but it should be. So that is
- 10:17Speaker 1: innovation from Karl Chuttick. Well, those are my top five
- 10:20Speaker 1: games from twenty ten. I thought would take a moment
- 10:22Speaker 1: here to introduce a few other superlative games, a few
- 10:27Speaker 1: that I thought are really good and I wanted to
- 10:29Speaker 1: give an award to but didn't make the top five.
- 10:33Speaker 2: First one is best theme, Nuns on the Run.
- 10:35Speaker 1: Nuns on the Run is a hidden movement game where
- 10:37Speaker 1: players are initiate nuns who are trying to sneak out
- 10:40Speaker 1: and do shenanigans like getting a piece of cake or
- 10:43Speaker 1: drinking some of the sacristy wine. And one player is
- 10:48Speaker 1: the mother Superior trying to catch the nuns who are
- 10:51Speaker 1: sneaking around. It's a pretty dumb game and really clunky,
- 10:55Speaker 1: like the mechanisms are sort of fiddly. Is the word
- 10:58Speaker 1: I'm looking for or the word people use for this
- 11:00Speaker 1: kind of game where it feels like it should be
- 11:02Speaker 1: a little smoother and it's not. But it's a really
- 11:04Speaker 1: silly premise, and it's a game I've held on to
- 11:07Speaker 1: even though we've only played it once or twice, and
- 11:11Speaker 1: it's so clunky that it hasn't gotten a lot of
- 11:13Speaker 1: additional play, but it's still a fun time. So that
- 11:16Speaker 1: is Nuns on the Run. The coolest experience. The twenty
- 11:21Speaker 1: ten game that I would say has the coolest experience
- 11:24Speaker 1: is Escape from Aliens in Outer Space. In this game,
- 11:28Speaker 1: you are a player on a ship that has an
- 11:31Speaker 1: alien on it if you think about the original alien,
- 11:34Speaker 1: and you are trying to get away from the alien
- 11:37Speaker 1: and get to an escape pod, and so are all
- 11:39Speaker 1: the other players, and there's not enough escape pods for
- 11:42Speaker 1: the players. It's a hidden movement game where everybody's hidden.
- 11:45Speaker 1: You're each moving at different times, and if you're the alien,
- 11:49Speaker 1: you move until you think you're in the spot where
- 11:51Speaker 1: one of the humans are and then you can pounce.
- 11:53Speaker 1: If you're a human, you move until you think maybe
- 11:56Speaker 1: there's an alien there, and you could shoot your gun.
- 11:57Speaker 1: You might accidentally shoot another human. If you get pounced
- 12:00Speaker 1: on by an alien, then you turn into one. It's
- 12:03Speaker 1: really tense and very interesting. It is very fragile though.
- 12:06Speaker 1: If somebody doesn't understand what's happening, it gets really screwed up.
- 12:10Speaker 1: And it requires a level of decorum that I rarely
- 12:14Speaker 1: get to feel like. It has to have to be
- 12:16Speaker 1: very quiet to play it and orderly, and it just
- 12:19Speaker 1: doesn't doesn't work out all that often.
- 12:22Speaker 2: We tried to play several times.
- 12:23Speaker 1: We had like one or two good games and several
- 12:25Speaker 1: not great games. So it was a game I got
- 12:28Speaker 1: got rid of a long time ago. But it's beautiful.
- 12:30Speaker 1: It's a really neat production. It's a cool experience that's
- 12:33Speaker 1: alien escape from aliens and outer space. To be clear,
- 12:36Speaker 1: I was playing the Osprey Games edition. I know that
- 12:40Speaker 1: in twenty ten the game was the game came out
- 12:43Speaker 1: in a different form, so just nodding to that. Next time,
- 12:48Speaker 1: I have an award for the best Origin game. This
- 12:51Speaker 1: is like a game where they made a later edition.
- 12:53Speaker 1: That later edition was amazing. I could have put London here,
- 12:57Speaker 1: but London I already excluded this is a onrim or
- 13:01Speaker 1: on Nirim.
- 13:02Speaker 2: By the time I.
- 13:03Speaker 1: Got to wanting to play this game, they had already
- 13:05Speaker 1: published the second edition, which is really the only one
- 13:07Speaker 1: you can get now. I don't know anything about what
- 13:09Speaker 1: the first edition was about, except that the second edition
- 13:12Speaker 1: is great.
- 13:13Speaker 2: It's one of my favorite solo games.
- 13:14Speaker 1: It's consistently fun, the modules make for interesting variety, the
- 13:20Speaker 1: theming is really good, and it's led me to get
- 13:23Speaker 1: a bunch of the other Shady Torby games if you
- 13:26Speaker 1: haven't played it. An Irim is a game about being
- 13:29Speaker 1: a dream trying to get through the dreamscape and avoiding.
- 13:33Speaker 2: Nightmares and such.
- 13:35Speaker 1: It's beautifully abstract and a really fun puzzle.
- 13:40Speaker 2: The art is lovely, so if you get a chance
- 13:42Speaker 2: to try it.
- 13:43Speaker 1: On rim or Onirim from Shady Torby Next Award is
- 13:48Speaker 1: the game that causes the most anxiety. This is anomia.
- 13:52Speaker 1: Anomia is the word for not being able to think
- 13:55Speaker 1: of a word. In anomia, you It's a high speed
- 14:01Speaker 1: anomia as a high speed party game where you have
- 14:03Speaker 1: a card in front of you with a symbol on
- 14:04Speaker 1: it and a category like magazines, and the opponents around
- 14:08Speaker 1: the table all have cards a symbols on them and categories.
- 14:11Speaker 1: As long as none of the symbols match the symbol
- 14:13Speaker 1: you have, you don't do anything. But each round somebody
- 14:16Speaker 1: draws a card and puts in front of them and
- 14:18Speaker 1: displaying a new symbol. And now if your symbol matches theirs,
- 14:21Speaker 1: you're in a duel where you try to name something
- 14:23Speaker 1: from their category before they name something from your category.
- 14:27Speaker 1: It's delightful because sometimes you just can't think of anything
- 14:31Speaker 1: to say, even though it's obvious.
- 14:32Speaker 2: It'll be like cities and you can't think of a city.
- 14:35Speaker 2: It's wild.
- 14:36Speaker 1: The other two rules that make the game really work
- 14:38Speaker 1: are one if anybody says something from the category as
- 14:42Speaker 1: an answer, you can't use it again. So if you're
- 14:45Speaker 1: in a race with somebody to say city and magazine
- 14:47Speaker 1: and they say National Geographic before you say Chicago, Chicago
- 14:52Speaker 1: is out. Even though you didn't get to use it
- 14:54Speaker 1: as the answer, no one else can use it. Similarly,
- 14:57Speaker 1: the winner in the case of a tie is who
- 15:00Speaker 1: are finished their answer first. So if we started speaking
- 15:03Speaker 1: at the same time and I said National Geographic, even
- 15:05Speaker 1: if I said it really fast, you could say Chicago
- 15:08Speaker 1: or Des Moines or New York and you could finish
- 15:11Speaker 1: before I said the whole magazine, and then you'd win
- 15:13Speaker 1: even if I started speaking first, which is a really
- 15:15Speaker 1: fun game. The other rule that makes it really great
- 15:17Speaker 1: is you have this stack of cards in front of
- 15:19Speaker 1: you because when you draw a new one, you put
- 15:21Speaker 1: it on top of the old one that you had,
- 15:23Speaker 1: and then when your turn, when you match with somebody,
- 15:26Speaker 1: if you lose, they take the top card off your
- 15:29Speaker 1: stack and that reveals the symbol that was underneath. Well,
- 15:32Speaker 1: in the meantime, since you covered that up, someone else
- 15:34Speaker 1: might have gotten that symbol, which means you're immediately in
- 15:37Speaker 1: another duel.
- 15:38Speaker 2: So often when you lose a duel, you're immediately in.
- 15:40Speaker 1: Another duel, which is hilarious because often people don't realize that,
- 15:44Speaker 1: or they're still mad about the last one that they
- 15:47Speaker 1: failed at and on and on.
- 15:49Speaker 2: It's great.
- 15:50Speaker 1: So that's a nomia most Anxiety. The last category or
- 15:54Speaker 1: super litin I want to call out here is battle
- 15:56Speaker 1: Sheep for best minis. Battles Sheep is a game where
- 16:00Speaker 1: you are putting out, oh, never mind, I'm going to
- 16:04Speaker 1: scratch that because I'm thinking of a different game, So
- 16:07Speaker 1: never mind Battleshep. So those are the superlative games that
- 16:11Speaker 1: I wanted to point out. Next up is games I
- 16:13Speaker 1: haven't played but want to or should. More than any
- 16:16Speaker 1: other year that I've done a best of this far,
- 16:19Speaker 1: I found a lot of games that I would like
- 16:22Speaker 1: to have played in order to make this list more robust.
- 16:24Speaker 1: There's a bunch of them. These are games I hear
- 16:26Speaker 1: about from other people. I feel like Richard ham Rotto
- 16:30Speaker 1: likes a lot of these games or brings them up.
- 16:32Speaker 2: But there's a bunch.
- 16:33Speaker 1: Here from a bunch of different people that I think
- 16:35Speaker 1: are interesting and I would like to try if I
- 16:38Speaker 1: had the opportunity. These would all be on the acquire
- 16:41Speaker 1: for five or ten dollars list if I found them
- 16:43Speaker 1: at like a thrift store or even a garage sale
- 16:47Speaker 1: or a Yeah, these are all games I would enjoy
- 16:49Speaker 1: having to try. Dominant Species, which is apparently a very
- 16:54Speaker 1: aggressively vicious game, but I'd still like to try it.
- 16:57Speaker 1: Merchants and Marauders a pirates game. We do have that toggle,
- 17:00Speaker 1: so I could try it if I want it. Sid
- 17:02Speaker 1: Meyer's Civilization the board game. I have that in my basement.
- 17:05Speaker 1: Why haven't I tried it yet? That's the question.
- 17:07Speaker 2: Fresco.
- 17:08Speaker 1: This is a Queen Games game about painting Luna. A
- 17:11Speaker 1: Steffenfeld game that gets a lot of love. Vinhos, which
- 17:16Speaker 1: is the first of the vital Aserta Games. Part of
- 17:19Speaker 1: what's kept me from playing this mostly is I don't
- 17:21Speaker 1: like the theme at all, but I hear people bring
- 17:24Speaker 1: it up a lot. Preta Porte, which is the game
- 17:27Speaker 1: about fashion design from Portal Games, supposed to be very good.
- 17:31Speaker 1: I would enjoy trying it, although I haven't had a
- 17:34Speaker 1: lot of luck with Portal Games. Defenders of the Realm
- 17:37Speaker 1: a Richard lanniis game about sort of defending. It's a
- 17:41Speaker 1: tower defense game about defending a castle from fantasy monsters.
- 17:45Speaker 1: Looks pretty great. Catacombs is a flicking game. I probably
- 17:49Speaker 1: would want to play the second edition of this that
- 17:51Speaker 1: uses art from Quanchai Moria and looks just beautiful. Either
- 17:55Speaker 1: of these would be fun to try, though. Conquest of
- 17:58Speaker 1: Planet Earth, the space alien game. This is another one
- 18:00Speaker 1: that I have access to. We do have it at toggle.
- 18:05Speaker 1: It is a game by Flying Frog Productions, who make
- 18:08Speaker 1: Last Night on Earth and a Touch of Evil. In fact,
- 18:12Speaker 1: I understand this game is compatible with Last Night on Earth.
- 18:14Speaker 1: You could play them together this one and Last Night
- 18:17Speaker 1: on Earth, which would be interesting to try. It looks
- 18:20Speaker 1: silly and dumb, and I'd love to try it. Mystery
- 18:22Speaker 1: Express This is a game from Days of Wonder that
- 18:26Speaker 1: is out of print now, but it is a mystery
- 18:28Speaker 1: game that looks pretty neat and I would like to
- 18:31Speaker 1: try at some point. And finally, Munga Invaders, Mad Scientists
- 18:34Speaker 1: and Atomic Monsters Attack the Earth.
- 18:36Speaker 2: This is a game I have a copy of and
- 18:38Speaker 2: I just haven't gotten it to the table.
- 18:40Speaker 1: It was part of Martin Wallace's tree Frog Games era,
- 18:45Speaker 1: and I did go to play it once the rule
- 18:47Speaker 1: book was rough. I was sort of all ready to play,
- 18:50Speaker 1: and then we started playing and I couldn't understand it,
- 18:51Speaker 1: and I ended up putting it away. But I still
- 18:54Speaker 1: have it. I still think it would be fun to
- 18:56Speaker 1: play at some point. Finally, I did want to take
- 18:58Speaker 1: a moment to talk about games that I have also
- 19:00Speaker 1: played from twenty ten but did not make any of
- 19:02Speaker 1: the lists of the superlatives. These are Alien Frontiers, Forbidden Island,
- 19:06Speaker 1: Ghost Blitz, Hanabi Olympus, Categories categories, Snake Oil, Troy artois
- 19:14Speaker 1: Witz and Wager's Family, and Zombie Dice, Almost All of
- 19:18Speaker 1: those games are games I enjoy enough that I would
- 19:20Speaker 1: play them if you put them in front of me.
- 19:22Speaker 1: Some more than others, like Olympus, I probably wouldn't want
- 19:25Speaker 1: to play. I wouldn't pick that, but we had fun
- 19:28Speaker 1: with it when we had it. It wasn't bad. So yeah.
- 19:33Speaker 1: So that's my pick for the top games of twenty ten.
- 19:36Speaker 1: Which games do you like best from those that I
- 19:38Speaker 1: listed or other games from that era? Head over to
- 19:41Speaker 1: Board Game Get Guild three two sixty.
- 19:42Speaker 2: Nine and let me know what you think of games
- 19:44Speaker 2: from twenty ten. I'd love to know which ones are
- 19:46Speaker 2: your top five. Thanks for joining me and me walk today.
- 19:49Speaker 2: I hope your next walk is a pleasant as mine was.
- 19:51Speaker 2: Bye bye, Brought to you by rattle Boxerience
