- 0:03Speaker 2: Okay, here we go.
- 0:04Speaker 1: Where the plays get broken down and science gets denied.
- 0:07Speaker 3: I got to come off the bench, Hour two of Off.
- 0:09Speaker 1: The Bench Live from the Raisin Knees Studio.
- 0:35Speaker 4: All right, welcome back here Off the Bench Monday morning,
- 0:39Speaker 4: Fly from the Raisin Kanes Studio.
- 0:42Speaker 2: We are.
- 0:43Speaker 4: I hope you're having a great start to the week.
- 0:46Speaker 4: Whether you're watching in the office, maybe you're driving around.
- 0:48Speaker 4: Maybe you just dropped off the kids and the carpool
- 0:50Speaker 4: was over, so I know Taylor's exciting. So you can
- 0:54Speaker 4: now say some curse words because all the kids are
- 0:56Speaker 4: dropped off. Don't check your head at me. You know
- 0:59Speaker 4: it's true. All right, let's talk a little Saints with
- 1:05Speaker 4: the man from Locked On Sports podcast Locked On Saints
- 1:09Speaker 4: Podcast rights for the Saints here on louisanasports dot Net.
- 1:12Speaker 4: We got the man, the myth legend, mister Ross Jackson Ross.
- 1:15Speaker 2: What's up man?
- 1:16Speaker 5: Okay, man, I'm doing great. Thanks for having me this morning.
- 1:18Speaker 4: Absolutely, thanks for jumping on. We appreciate. Like I know,
- 1:20Speaker 4: it's everyone's buzz in right now. We finally get to
- 1:23Speaker 4: see the Saints take the field. Put on their real jerseys,
- 1:25Speaker 4: their real helmets and play and little football, and well
- 1:29Speaker 4: the Saints didn't get the win. But I don't know
- 1:31Speaker 4: if that really matters right now, because there's a lot
- 1:33Speaker 4: to take away from the game. Let's just start kind
- 1:36Speaker 4: of from like a broad's perspective, like, how do you
- 1:39Speaker 4: think the you know, a couple of practices against the
- 1:41Speaker 4: Jaguars and then of course you go against a you
- 1:44Speaker 4: play the game. Did the game kind of match up
- 1:47Speaker 4: from a competitiveness that it did in practice or did
- 1:51Speaker 4: the practice go a little.
- 1:52Speaker 2: Different than the game?
- 1:53Speaker 5: Yeah? I probably did. The practice went a little bit
- 1:55Speaker 5: different than the game, just because we saw more of
- 1:58Speaker 5: sort of that first team offense, first team deeps on
- 2:00Speaker 5: both sides, and so the competition kind of felt a
- 2:02Speaker 5: little bit more charged between those guys getting their first opportunities.
- 2:07Speaker 5: But you know, these guys that got their opportunity to
- 2:10Speaker 5: compete during the preseason game didn't lack for competitive value
- 2:15Speaker 5: at all, obviously. I mean, these are guys that have
- 2:17Speaker 5: an opportunity to either you know, grab a roster spot
- 2:21Speaker 5: or a role here in New Orleans or put up
- 2:23Speaker 5: good take for thirty one other teams to get a
- 2:25Speaker 5: look at and I think that becomes, you know, a
- 2:27Speaker 5: big charge for a lot of these guys as well.
- 2:29Speaker 5: You could feel a little bit of the kind of
- 2:31Speaker 5: nerves settled after the game talking to people and everything.
- 2:35Speaker 5: How like, man, I was a little like I was
- 2:36Speaker 5: really amped up going out there for the first time
- 2:39Speaker 5: and all that, and so you could definitely feel all
- 2:41Speaker 5: of that there. But I will say I think that
- 2:43Speaker 5: the joint practice obviously put together, you know, something really
- 2:46Speaker 5: fun to watch.
- 2:47Speaker 4: Yeah, let's okay, let's start on the defensive side of
- 2:49Speaker 4: the ball, because you know, here on the show we
- 2:51Speaker 4: talk a lot of offense. We probably kind of skip
- 2:53Speaker 4: around the defense a little bit rightfully, so defense a
- 2:55Speaker 4: bunch of dummies, but like, there's there's a lot of
- 2:58Speaker 4: question marks on the defense. We'd think that the offense,
- 3:03Speaker 4: if healthy, can be explosive. On a defense, there's some
- 3:05Speaker 4: question marks. Let's start with the defensive line and stop
- 3:08Speaker 4: in the run. They did a really nice job during
- 3:10Speaker 4: the game stop of the run, but there's still a
- 3:11Speaker 4: lot of question marks. There are some injuries they're working through.
- 3:14Speaker 4: How did you feel coming after the game on just
- 3:17Speaker 4: kind of the run defense.
- 3:19Speaker 5: Yeah, I think the most impressive player to watch in
- 3:21Speaker 5: that area in the limited STAPs that he got was
- 3:24Speaker 5: Kristin Miller, And that's exactly what I'm sure the Stinks
- 3:26Speaker 5: are hoping to have said after the preseason game. So Ricky,
- 3:31Speaker 5: they drafted under Georgia in the second round. At deep
- 3:33Speaker 5: in the tackle, he just looked so tough to move,
- 3:37Speaker 5: really really athletic for especially for his size and the
- 3:40Speaker 5: way that he was able to break through. Got a
- 3:41Speaker 5: pressure at one point with the bull rush right up
- 3:43Speaker 5: the middle. I ended up being able to peel off
- 3:45Speaker 5: the blocks to make stops. You know, average stepth of
- 3:48Speaker 5: tackle looked really good all those areas and all the
- 3:51Speaker 5: analytics that were there too. I think he was one
- 3:53Speaker 5: of the highest rated players coming out of this matchup
- 3:55Speaker 5: as well. Just really really excellent stuff. Now he's dealing
- 3:58Speaker 5: with a shoulder injury. He had to leave just before halftime,
- 4:01Speaker 5: and then you know, he kind of left the injury tent.
- 4:04Speaker 5: He was still in the injury tent. Does everybody went
- 4:06Speaker 5: into the locker room and then so when he left
- 4:08Speaker 5: the injury tent, he went back to the locker room,
- 4:10Speaker 5: which usually is an indication that he wouldn't finish the game,
- 4:13Speaker 5: But it was not like he had anywhere else to go.
- 4:15Speaker 5: He had to go to the locker room where everybody
- 4:17Speaker 5: else was for half time, and so we had to
- 4:19Speaker 5: wait until the top of the second half to see
- 4:20Speaker 5: if he came back out, which he did not. But
- 4:23Speaker 5: if he's as long as you know, he ends up
- 4:25Speaker 5: checking out okay and being healthy moving forward, or the
- 4:27Speaker 5: Saints are able to keep him on the field during
- 4:29Speaker 5: the regular season, as he's dealt with a couple of
- 4:31Speaker 5: injuries now of the course of training camp, I think
- 4:33Speaker 5: he's going to be a big asset for them in
- 4:34Speaker 5: that area.
- 4:35Speaker 4: Yeah, And it's one of those things when you watch
- 4:37Speaker 4: practice you really don't know how the defensive line is due,
- 4:40Speaker 4: and so the game is kind of like your litmussas
- 4:42Speaker 4: that's the only thing you really have to grade on.
- 4:44Speaker 4: But like another unit that you can get a lot
- 4:47Speaker 4: from it, like the secondary, you can get a lot
- 4:49Speaker 4: from practice as well. How do you think they did
- 4:51Speaker 4: in the game, and also like how do you like
- 4:54Speaker 4: in the practice is leading up to there's some question
- 4:56Speaker 4: marks from the depth, the corner, the depth, and the secondary.
- 4:59Speaker 4: I have they answer that, some of those backups, some
- 5:01Speaker 4: of these young guys, have they answered that question?
- 5:04Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 5:04Speaker 5: I think that they're in the process of doing so. Look,
- 5:07Speaker 5: I've always been a little bit higher on the Saints
- 5:09Speaker 5: depth than other people. I just think that it's it's
- 5:12Speaker 5: constructed in a way that we're not accustomed to seeing
- 5:15Speaker 5: in that the starters of the young guys. It's kool
- 5:17Speaker 5: Aid McKinstry going into his third season, it's Quincy Riley
- 5:21Speaker 5: going into his second, It's Jonas Sanker going into his second.
- 5:25Speaker 5: And those are your kind of your top three corners
- 5:28Speaker 5: or cornerback like positions in Sanker's perspective. But then the
- 5:32Speaker 5: depth includes guys like Isaac Gadam and Martin Neverson Junior
- 5:35Speaker 5: who have been in the NFL for a little while
- 5:37Speaker 5: and are kind of the more veteran players. Ragion right
- 5:40Speaker 5: as well, And so I always look at positions where
- 5:44Speaker 5: you have young starters and veteran depth. I always look
- 5:47Speaker 5: at that as a positive. I think it's not often
- 5:50Speaker 5: looked at that way. And I think that a guy
- 5:52Speaker 5: that really proved himself in that conversation in the preseason
- 5:55Speaker 5: game as well as the week leading up to the
- 5:57Speaker 5: preseason games, Mark Neverson Junior. This guy was a really
- 6:01Speaker 5: excellent corner coming out of Mississippi State when he was
- 6:03Speaker 5: over with the Cleveland Browns before he got injured, and
- 6:08Speaker 5: looks to be returning to some level of that form
- 6:11Speaker 5: here over the course of the past week, whether he's
- 6:13Speaker 5: taking snaps in the practice or in the preseason, and
- 6:17Speaker 5: regardless of who he's been going up again, he's been
- 6:19Speaker 5: able to kind of, you know, make better plays in
- 6:21Speaker 5: the ball, closing the ball a little bit more quickly.
- 6:23Speaker 5: He's been snagging interceptions things like that. I thought that
- 6:26Speaker 5: he was really impressive, and then I thought that cornerback
- 6:28Speaker 5: Jaden Price was really impressive too. He was the highest
- 6:31Speaker 5: rated player coming out of this game. Had two passes defended,
- 6:35Speaker 5: including a pass breakup and an interception. He had a
- 6:37Speaker 5: pressure on the one pass rush opportunity that he got,
- 6:41Speaker 5: and didn't allow a single catch in the three top
- 6:44Speaker 5: times that he was targeted. Him playing in that star position,
- 6:47Speaker 5: I think that he's the guy that's ready to go
- 6:48Speaker 5: from practice squad to fifty three.
- 6:51Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 6:51Speaker 4: I was kind of kind of ask you to give
- 6:53Speaker 4: me somebody on defense that probably wasn't projected to make
- 6:56Speaker 4: the fifty three, but that might after their first couple
- 6:59Speaker 4: of weeks in the first but I think.
- 7:00Speaker 2: He kind of just did.
- 7:02Speaker 5: Yeah, I think that he's kind of the guy. You know,
- 7:04Speaker 5: there are a couple of other guys in that defensive
- 7:06Speaker 5: line that might be fighting there, like you know, like
- 7:08Speaker 5: depending on how long the hamshring injury goes for Cam Jordan,
- 7:12Speaker 5: if the Saints end up needing an extra player on
- 7:14Speaker 5: the rotation of the edge I mean central Michigan pass
- 7:17Speaker 5: rusher and the undrafted free agent Mike Heldman. Obviously, you know,
- 7:20Speaker 5: he made a case for himself too, right, and so
- 7:22Speaker 5: he would probably be the other guy, but that one
- 7:24Speaker 5: would be a little bit more contingent upon the situation
- 7:27Speaker 5: at edge rusher and how the numbers game pans out.
- 7:29Speaker 5: Jayden Price, I think has just left no question between
- 7:33Speaker 5: his ability to back up that star role, which he's
- 7:36Speaker 5: been doing since really in season last year. And then
- 7:40Speaker 5: also you add on his ability as a returner, and
- 7:43Speaker 5: then you add the special teams value that he brings
- 7:46Speaker 5: while he is sitting back there waiting for an opportunity
- 7:48Speaker 5: on the fifty three menter roster. He's a guy that
- 7:50Speaker 5: could easily jump into that role.
- 7:53Speaker 4: All right, let's go to the offensive side of the ball,
- 7:55Speaker 4: and like I hate to ask you about somebody that
- 7:56Speaker 4: didn't play.
- 7:57Speaker 2: But is Kendering Miller going to make this name?
- 8:00Speaker 5: I don't know, man, what's the what's the phrase can't
- 8:03Speaker 5: make the club from the tub or whatever? I mean,
- 8:06Speaker 5: that's that's kind of what it feels like with Kendre
- 8:09Speaker 5: right now. And and you look I say that, and
- 8:11Speaker 5: it sounds so disparaging about Kindre. There's no question about
- 8:14Speaker 5: the talent when it comes to this guy. The question
- 8:16Speaker 5: is when do you get to see it? And it seems,
- 8:19Speaker 5: you know, each each of these training camps he's had
- 8:21Speaker 5: an issue or some issue during the season. They started
- 8:24Speaker 5: him off with a clean slate last year, but it's
- 8:26Speaker 5: tough to go from a clean slate, so then you
- 8:29Speaker 5: add the ACL injury on top of it, and now
- 8:31Speaker 5: now this back injury that kept him out for the
- 8:33Speaker 5: majority of training camp. If he wants to make the roster,
- 8:37Speaker 5: he's gonna have to get back out on the football
- 8:39Speaker 5: field soon. He's going to have to stay on the
- 8:40Speaker 5: football field. And at this point, the performance is going
- 8:43Speaker 5: to have to be really convincing because I think guys
- 8:45Speaker 5: like I mean, Audrick Estimate have really made their kind
- 8:49Speaker 5: of claim for that role behind Travis A Chang Junior
- 8:53Speaker 5: and Alvin Kamara.
- 8:53Speaker 4: Yeah, is this like even if he comes back for
- 8:56Speaker 4: a game and looks healthy for a week or two,
- 8:58Speaker 4: is it still I mean, is a talent and enough
- 9:00Speaker 4: or is there too much of a history now to
- 9:02Speaker 4: like not be trustworthy.
- 9:04Speaker 5: Yeah, that's the thing that's so tricky about it, Like
- 9:06Speaker 5: the performance would have to be considerable, right, Like you'd
- 9:09Speaker 5: have to really really make a statement in your return.
- 9:12Speaker 5: And obviously that's what he would be charged to do
- 9:15Speaker 5: from a motivation standpoint and everything like that. But it
- 9:18Speaker 5: feels like you'd really have to put up a strong
- 9:20Speaker 5: performance here in a in any return and in any
- 9:24Speaker 5: opportunity that you get in order to really convince this
- 9:27Speaker 5: coaching staff to see beyond the availability concerns and everything.
- 9:32Speaker 5: If not, I think maybe if he's healthy, a practice
- 9:35Speaker 5: squad spot could be in order. But it's becoming a
- 9:38Speaker 5: little bit tough to project him on the fifty three
- 9:41Speaker 5: man roster, even as somebody that knows that the talent
- 9:43Speaker 5: is absolutely there. It's just hard to put somebody on
- 9:46Speaker 5: a roster that's not available.
- 9:47Speaker 4: Yeah, all right, let's let's let's move on to somebody
- 9:51Speaker 4: else who has a very short amount of time, completely
- 9:57Speaker 4: justified why he was a top ten pick, but also
- 9:59Speaker 4: completely just fid why people had concerns. Jordan Tyson has
- 10:02Speaker 4: been absolutely electric in his rout running abilities in practice,
- 10:05Speaker 4: but also has a new soft tissue injury. So what
- 10:08Speaker 4: have you heard coming out of camp about Jordan Tyson?
- 10:11Speaker 4: His availability? How long do we think he's going to
- 10:13Speaker 4: be out, and just kind of like his camp as
- 10:15Speaker 4: a whole leading up to this date, it's just been
- 10:17Speaker 4: kind of of course, like I said, the soft tissue injury,
- 10:21Speaker 4: but man, he is watching him run routes has been
- 10:23Speaker 4: absolutely electric. But are we how many games are we
- 10:25Speaker 4: going to be able to see it actually play this year?
- 10:28Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 10:29Speaker 5: I get the question. It's a challenging thing to look at,
- 10:32Speaker 5: and right now, I think the thing that's most concerning
- 10:34Speaker 5: is the lack of clarity about his injury. His injury
- 10:37Speaker 5: went from being one to where you saw him jog
- 10:40Speaker 5: off the field and kind of sounded like maybe it
- 10:43Speaker 5: wasn't super much of a big deal, sounded like it
- 10:46Speaker 5: was a little bit more minor, and then it went
- 10:48Speaker 5: from that to you know, days after the injury, they're
- 10:50Speaker 5: still in the information gathering process, like that's typically not
- 10:53Speaker 5: a great time. And look, with hamstring injuries in particular,
- 10:58Speaker 5: it's always a matter of if issues me a matter
- 11:00Speaker 5: of when, not if, And so you know, the overall
- 11:04Speaker 5: expectation was that eventually there was going to be some
- 11:07Speaker 5: revisiting of the hamstring injury at some point during his career.
- 11:10Speaker 5: It stinks that it happened this early for him because
- 11:13Speaker 5: now that creates sort of this long path to re
- 11:17Speaker 5: injury or long running a long ramp of re injury potentially.
- 11:22Speaker 5: It's just so you got to be very careful with that.
- 11:24Speaker 5: As for a timeline, I mean, look, Kellen Moore acknowledged
- 11:28Speaker 5: that it could go into Week one. I wouldn't be
- 11:31Speaker 5: surprised if it did. Just from what we've seen from
- 11:34Speaker 5: the Saints, they've been very, very cautious, and they have
- 11:37Speaker 5: a passing game that they know works with Tyler Shuck,
- 11:39Speaker 5: Chris Olave, Juwan Johnson, Devon Bailey, and and now you've
- 11:43Speaker 5: added in a run game with Travis Chanz. You and
- 11:45Speaker 5: you bring in guys like Noah fan Oscar del Brice,
- 11:47Speaker 5: Lance Berryon Brown, all these players that they've added this offseason,
- 11:52Speaker 5: it kind of leaves you the question of can you
- 11:55Speaker 5: actually go into the season without rushing Jordan Tyson back
- 11:59Speaker 5: because of all of those weapons that you have, and
- 12:01Speaker 5: how does that work in their you know, in their favor.
- 12:04Speaker 5: And so I wouldn't be surprised to see this thing
- 12:06Speaker 5: lingering to the regular season, just because at this point
- 12:09Speaker 5: that's kind of the expectation. That seems like they're they're
- 12:12Speaker 5: kind of soft launching in a way. And after that, though,
- 12:16Speaker 5: I think the biggest thing is going to be kind
- 12:18Speaker 5: of the similar to what we talked about with Kendre.
- 12:20Speaker 5: You know that the talent's there, the performance is going
- 12:23Speaker 5: to be, you know, incredible once he gets there. It
- 12:25Speaker 5: reminds me of oh, was Odell Beckham junior? He had
- 12:28Speaker 5: a hamstring injury during his rookie season, played eleven games
- 12:32Speaker 5: but missed some time due due to his ankle or
- 12:35Speaker 5: he sees me due to his hamstring, but he averaged
- 12:37Speaker 5: like one hundred and eight point eight yards per game
- 12:39Speaker 5: when he played. You know, Jordan Tyson is that level
- 12:42Speaker 5: of a performer, that level of athletes where when you
- 12:45Speaker 5: can finally get him out on the field, the talent's
- 12:47Speaker 5: going to be there, But the big thing is going
- 12:48Speaker 5: to be maximizing the length of time or the long
- 12:51Speaker 5: play to make sure that he's available for you for
- 12:53Speaker 5: a longer amount of time maybe, but that means sacrificing
- 12:56Speaker 5: some of the short term here right now.
- 12:57Speaker 4: Yeah, I think Ross, I think it's unrealistic for anybody
- 12:59Speaker 4: to have the end expectation that he's going to play
- 13:01Speaker 4: seventeen games. So it's all about managing and it's the
- 13:04Speaker 4: job of kilim Moore and his staff and the training
- 13:06Speaker 4: staff and the doctor's there to manage this the right way.
- 13:09Speaker 4: And you know, good thing for the Saints of this
- 13:11Speaker 4: year as opposed to past years is there is depth
- 13:14Speaker 4: at that position, right, and you had some really good
- 13:16Speaker 4: performances on Sunday or Saturday.
- 13:18Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, absolutely, I think there's some guys to be
- 13:20Speaker 5: excited about, and this guy, and that's one of the
- 13:22Speaker 5: reasons why you go and you load up at the position.
- 13:24Speaker 7: Right.
- 13:24Speaker 5: They drafted three wide receivers for the persumption nineteen eighty nine,
- 13:28Speaker 5: and there were twelve rounds in the draft back in
- 13:29Speaker 5: eighty nine, and so like this shows you that this
- 13:32Speaker 5: team was willing to load up at the position. And
- 13:35Speaker 5: now you can kind of see why that would turn
- 13:37Speaker 5: out to be a little bit more. For two, it
- 13:38Speaker 5: is probably sooner than expected.
- 13:40Speaker 4: All right, let's talk the important stuff, the good stuff. Finally,
- 13:45Speaker 4: let's talk quarterbacks. All right, so we go into the
- 13:49Speaker 4: game Spencer Raller eight of eleven, but of course there
- 13:52Speaker 4: wasn't really anything exciting.
- 13:54Speaker 2: Zach Wilson eleven and sixteen, and that was exciting.
- 13:57Speaker 4: There was some exciting plays, but that's kind of how
- 13:59Speaker 4: second half of preseason games go. Starts out a little boring,
- 14:02Speaker 4: gets exciting towards the end of all these guys trying
- 14:04Speaker 4: to scrap and fight and claw and make a team.
- 14:07Speaker 4: What'd you see out of the two quarterbacks? And are
- 14:09Speaker 4: the Saints in a pretty good spot in their quarterback
- 14:11Speaker 4: room right now?
- 14:13Speaker 5: Yeah, I think that they are. Look, Spencer Ratler's performance
- 14:17Speaker 5: in the preseason didn't look like what it looked like
- 14:19Speaker 5: throughout training camp. I mean, he was downfield, pushing the
- 14:22Speaker 5: ball downfield, all those things. So I think from that perspective,
- 14:25Speaker 5: a lot of people are going to be overwhelmed by
- 14:28Speaker 5: his performance. But I think a lot of people were
- 14:29Speaker 5: also excited about Zach Wilson's performance, and I think rightfully.
- 14:33Speaker 5: So Zach got out there and you know, eleven of sixteen,
- 14:36Speaker 5: like you mentioned, one hundred and forty five yards passing
- 14:38Speaker 5: touchdown rere you connected with Brookie tight End Oscar delp
- 14:41Speaker 5: at the front pielon a couple of plays after connecting
- 14:44Speaker 5: with bub Means at the right pieline that also looked
- 14:46Speaker 5: like that could have been a touchdown was initially roule
- 14:48Speaker 5: the touchdown at least. But I think the thing that
- 14:51Speaker 5: was exciting about Zak Wilson's performance for a lot of
- 14:53Speaker 5: folks was the attacking downfield. It was the sluggo down
- 14:56Speaker 5: the right sideline on the fade to the right, was
- 14:59Speaker 5: the cover two hole shot to Barryon Brown that came,
- 15:02Speaker 5: you know, swiftly after that. It was the play action
- 15:05Speaker 5: roll out completion to above Means and all the play
- 15:08Speaker 5: actions things. There were a lot of things that just
- 15:10Speaker 5: kind of worked with Zach Wilson. And I think that
- 15:13Speaker 5: the thing that's intriguing about that is that that's the
- 15:16Speaker 5: guy that spent the least amount of time that in
- 15:19Speaker 5: that quarterback room in Kellen Moore's system, and you could
- 15:23Speaker 5: see the way that Kellen Moore system still supported that quarterback.
- 15:25Speaker 5: You can see with Hunter Deckers at the indigame as well,
- 15:28Speaker 5: And so I think it's a proof positive of what
- 15:31Speaker 5: it is that Kellen Moore's system does, and Deck Wilson
- 15:34Speaker 5: talked about it after the game of having sort of
- 15:36Speaker 5: these all coverage beaters to where there's no such thing
- 15:39Speaker 5: as the perfect coverage to take away the play. Now,
- 15:41Speaker 5: it might take away one of the routes, it might
- 15:44Speaker 5: be the big play, might be all that, but there's
- 15:45Speaker 5: always somewhere to go with the football and that that
- 15:47Speaker 5: is quarterback friendly, which I'm sure you can attest to
- 15:50Speaker 5: as well in terms of creating those peer progressions and
- 15:53Speaker 5: giving you all those opportunities to be able to beat
- 15:55Speaker 5: whatever coverage and always find an answer. I thought that
- 15:58Speaker 5: what was really like the big takeaway from Zach Wilson's
- 16:01Speaker 5: performance was about the proof positive nature that it created
- 16:05Speaker 5: for Kellen Moore's offense and what it can look like
- 16:07Speaker 5: going into twenty six.
- 16:08Speaker 4: What do you think Nicky and his staff are what's
- 16:11Speaker 4: their play in the quarterback room right now? Are is
- 16:14Speaker 4: it just trying to make the quarter quarterback room as
- 16:17Speaker 4: best they can for depth in that room? Are they
- 16:20Speaker 4: trying to potentially get something out of one of these
- 16:23Speaker 4: quarterbacks as far as a trade or get some sort
- 16:25Speaker 4: of asset back for them.
- 16:28Speaker 5: I think, I don't know if they're trying to. I
- 16:30Speaker 5: don't think that they would turn their nose up at
- 16:32Speaker 5: the idea, though. You know, if let's say some team
- 16:36Speaker 5: called about either Spencer Rattler or Zach Wilson and the
- 16:39Speaker 5: deal made sense, you'd be able to move one of
- 16:41Speaker 5: those guys and feel really good about giving them an
- 16:43Speaker 5: opportunity somewhere else, while also gaining an asset and giving
- 16:46Speaker 5: yourself still the backup that can be really good for
- 16:50Speaker 5: your starting quarterback. You know, I think a lot of
- 16:53Speaker 5: times when we talk about backup quarterback that the perception
- 16:55Speaker 5: is the guy that goes in if the starter goes down.
- 16:59Speaker 5: But there's a whole list of additional responsibilities of course
- 17:02Speaker 5: that you should that that you know, I'm sure you've
- 17:04Speaker 5: seen that, are you know, really important?
- 17:07Speaker 2: Right?
- 17:07Speaker 5: The guy on the sideline, that's but to say, here's
- 17:09Speaker 5: what I saw and have those types of conversations all
- 17:11Speaker 5: that guys in the in the in the in the
- 17:14Speaker 5: film room, all of that, Like, there's so many there's
- 17:17Speaker 5: so much value to that player that when you have
- 17:20Speaker 5: two really good options, and there are good options from
- 17:22Speaker 5: different perspectives, right, Spencer Ratler has the institutional knowledge was
- 17:25Speaker 5: a starter in the system. There's value in that. Zach
- 17:29Speaker 5: Wilson has a lot of veteran experience and has been
- 17:32Speaker 5: around other really good play callers like Sean Payton and
- 17:34Speaker 5: Mike McDaniel. There's a lot of experience in that. Receives
- 17:37Speaker 5: me a lot of value in that, and so figuring
- 17:39Speaker 5: out which are those makes sense for you, or if
- 17:41Speaker 5: a team figures it out for you by giving you
- 17:43Speaker 5: the right phone call, I think you're in a really
- 17:45Speaker 5: good place either way. If you're the same, Yeah, Ross.
- 17:48Speaker 4: We appreciate your time. Dan, I know we've got a
- 17:49Speaker 4: little long. The last question for you, promise tell us
- 17:51Speaker 4: what your thoughts are on the current state of the
- 17:54Speaker 4: kicking battle.
- 17:56Speaker 5: Yes. Absolutely, and don't apologize. We're long because Miami.
- 17:59Speaker 2: Hasn't been longer.
- 18:00Speaker 5: It's my FOLLO value. But when it comes to the
- 18:05Speaker 5: the kicker physician, I think this one's a really intriguing one.
- 18:10Speaker 5: I think at this point you're starting to see Tanner
- 18:11Speaker 5: Brown create some separation. This is the first time we've
- 18:14Speaker 5: really seen in separation. We're talking about two field goal
- 18:16Speaker 5: percentages right now that are hovering around like seventy nine
- 18:18Speaker 5: point five percent for Charlie Smith found eighty seven point
- 18:21Speaker 5: something percent for Tanner Brown, and so this is really
- 18:25Speaker 5: the first time that we've seen a little bit of separation.
- 18:29Speaker 5: And so now this is the opportunity for either Charlie
- 18:31Speaker 5: Smith to do what he did last year, which was
- 18:33Speaker 5: he kind of flipped the switch when we went out
- 18:35Speaker 5: to the West coast and all of a sudden he
- 18:37Speaker 5: was he went perfect on like double digit kicks down
- 18:39Speaker 5: the stretch, or it's an opportunity for Tanner Brown to
- 18:43Speaker 5: create some cushion in that distance and maybe pull away
- 18:46Speaker 5: a bit. And so I think this is the time
- 18:48Speaker 5: where we're going to see this kicker battle really unfold.
- 18:50Speaker 5: But I'd say right now, Tanner Brown, now just by
- 18:52Speaker 5: the numbers, has a slight edge.
- 18:54Speaker 4: All right, there he is, mister Ross Jackson locked on
- 18:57Speaker 4: Saints Podcast Louisiana Sports that now check out all those
- 19:01Speaker 4: awesome articles stay up today and everything Saints training camp.
- 19:04Speaker 2: Ross. We appreciate your time, Thank you.
- 19:06Speaker 5: Buddy, Thanks for having me. Y'all, take care safe and
- 19:08Speaker 5: I'll talk to you soon.
- 19:09Speaker 2: All right, man, you too. All right? The area is Rossterjacking.
- 19:11Speaker 2: That was great stuff.
- 19:12Speaker 4: We appreciate his time, so thoughtful good, good, good insight
- 19:16Speaker 4: always on everything Saints and everything coming out, and a
- 19:18Speaker 4: lot to come out of that preseason game. A lot
- 19:21Speaker 4: of speculation as well. I think the biggest story that
- 19:23Speaker 4: I have from the Saints right now is Jordan Tyson.
- 19:26Speaker 4: I think if he is a healthy and available, he
- 19:29Speaker 4: brings your offense into a very threatening position and a
- 19:33Speaker 4: defensive nightmare of him and lave are both on the field.
- 19:35Speaker 4: So that's the story for me to watch. I know
- 19:37Speaker 4: there's a lot of other storylines there and people making
- 19:40Speaker 4: the roster and depth chart and defensive line and secondary,
- 19:42Speaker 4: but that offense could be very dangerous with those two
- 19:46Speaker 4: wide receivers out there. So we'll continue to watch that,
- 19:49Speaker 4: and we will we'll come back. We'll talk a little
- 19:51Speaker 4: LSU on the other side. Right here and off the.
- 19:53Speaker 2: Bench, Off the bench, all right, Go to Central.

- 21:25Speaker 4: We hope you're having a great start to the week.
- 21:28Speaker 4: I hope your energy levels are high. Well, because they're
- 21:31Speaker 4: high around here, they're high in the foxhole. And the
- 21:35Speaker 4: only reason is because you picked this theme of music today.
- 21:37Speaker 4: Because I knew you saw my energy. Bro, you saw
- 21:40Speaker 4: my face.
- 21:40Speaker 8: That's why you just said the energy is hiding the
- 21:43Speaker 8: fox And I'm.
- 21:43Speaker 4: Like, well it wasn't. I know, that's why you picked
- 21:46Speaker 4: this genre of music. True, you get the vibe side. Yeah,
- 21:49Speaker 4: I mean they were took me a second awake up.
- 21:52Speaker 2: It was. It was.
- 21:53Speaker 4: It wasn't a RESTful weekend, not from like a party standpoint,
- 21:56Speaker 4: but it didn't lot it working.
- 21:57Speaker 3: Yeah, gotta stop partying hard on Sundays.
- 21:59Speaker 2: Matter. We talked about this. I called a laundry dude
- 22:02Speaker 2: this morning.
- 22:03Speaker 8: Yeah, it's really not as big of a deal as
- 22:06Speaker 8: you're making. I literally didn't think twice about it until
- 22:10Speaker 8: you said something.
- 22:12Speaker 2: I went a big deal.
- 22:13Speaker 8: You saw me.
- 22:14Speaker 2: It was just weird.
- 22:15Speaker 8: Yeah, you saw me again. You're like, let me address this.
- 22:17Speaker 4: It was one of those situations where you say something
- 22:20Speaker 4: you thought about it.
- 22:22Speaker 2: Yeah, it's kind of.
- 22:23Speaker 4: Like you're like when the flight attendant says, have a
- 22:26Speaker 4: great flight, and you're.
- 22:27Speaker 8: Like, you too, Well they're flying too.
- 22:30Speaker 4: Yeah, well the person at the airport take I have
- 22:33Speaker 4: a great flight, you too, And then you're like.
- 22:35Speaker 3: A movie theater, movie theater, getting the popcorn, enjoy your movie.
- 22:39Speaker 8: Is where it happens to me every single time.
- 22:42Speaker 2: Right, Like I feel like that's the one.
- 22:43Speaker 3: Like why do I always say you too to the
- 22:46Speaker 3: people handing me my popcorn?
- 22:47Speaker 2: Why it doesn't make any sense?
- 22:50Speaker 4: And then afterwards you think about it thirty seconds later
- 22:53Speaker 4: and you're like, oh, man, I sound like a real idiot.
- 22:57Speaker 8: I didn't even think about it.
- 22:58Speaker 4: I called you, dude, and then like you walked off
- 23:00Speaker 4: and I was like, oh, that was weird.
- 23:03Speaker 8: After you brought it up.
- 23:04Speaker 2: Let me get ahead of this.
- 23:05Speaker 8: Oh you were thinking about that.
- 23:06Speaker 4: I was like, let me get ahead of this one.
- 23:09Speaker 4: After the whole not notice in your hair situation. I
- 23:12Speaker 4: wanted to get ahead of the dude thing. You were like,
- 23:14Speaker 4: what a way to start the morning.
- 23:16Speaker 6: I mean, come on, god, I didn't even say anything
- 23:18Speaker 6: about it today.
- 23:21Speaker 4: Don't don't don't start. Don't try me anyway.
- 23:27Speaker 8: Guess what, I didn't even notice that I painted my nails. Okay,
- 23:32Speaker 8: what damn it?
- 23:35Speaker 4: Guess what what eighteen sleeps until Clemson comes to death?
- 23:43Speaker 2: Valley, look at that.
- 23:44Speaker 4: I try eighteen sleeps people, nineteen days until LSU.
- 23:50Speaker 2: Takes on Clemson. Babe, we excited or what? I'm very
- 23:54Speaker 2: excited every like I know.
- 23:56Speaker 4: It seems so far away still because we're still training camp.
- 23:59Speaker 4: There's we're getting very limited information coming out of training
- 24:03Speaker 4: camp because media doesn't have much much accessibility. There was
- 24:07Speaker 4: a scrimmage on Saturday, but no one got to see it.
- 24:10Speaker 4: How did they do so much?
- 24:13Speaker 2: Like?
- 24:13Speaker 4: It seems so far away, but it's only eighteen sleeps away.
- 24:17Speaker 4: You're gonna put your head on your pillow eighteen more times,
- 24:20Speaker 4: close those eyes, wake up to an alarm, all angry
- 24:23Speaker 4: for eighteen more days. Yeah, but on that nineteenth day,
- 24:27Speaker 4: you're gonna wake up, sweet, You're gonna smell the air
- 24:31Speaker 4: still gonna be about one hundred and fifteen wet bowl
- 24:33Speaker 4: about there.
- 24:33Speaker 2: It's okay, it's gonna feel like fall soil.
- 24:37Speaker 4: Sue playing football that day and it's close. It is
- 24:41Speaker 4: very close. And guess what they're playing? Who the real death?
- 24:46Speaker 4: Valley and mister Dabos. Sweeney recently was asked about playing
- 24:52Speaker 4: in Baton rouge, and he had this to say, but.
- 24:55Speaker 9: It's man, I got so much respect for that place.
- 24:58Speaker 9: First of all, I mean it's one of the great
- 25:00Speaker 9: places in college football play a football game.
- 25:05Speaker 2: Man.
- 25:05Speaker 9: They they they're own you from the time you land
- 25:08Speaker 9: that want at the airport, I mean it is.
- 25:11Speaker 2: And then a night game on top of it. Uh
- 25:14Speaker 2: there's a little juice and in that lemonade. They they
- 25:17Speaker 2: are they they're waiting on you. So it's it's awesome.
- 25:20Speaker 9: It's one of the again, one of the great places
- 25:22Speaker 9: to play a game. Lane's done an unbelievable job. I
- 25:25Speaker 9: mean they got they got, they got dudes for dudes
- 25:28Speaker 9: for dudes. They're all over the place, so uh be
- 25:31Speaker 9: a be a fun, fun way to kick it off.
- 25:34Speaker 4: Well, the ultimate respect coming from mister Dabas. Sweeney kind
- 25:37Speaker 4: of said it smugly a little bit, but basically told
- 25:40Speaker 4: me in that interview that we are the real Death Valley.
- 25:44Speaker 4: And he said we got dudes for dudes for dudes.
- 25:48Speaker 4: I think he means we've got a lot of talent
- 25:50Speaker 4: and dudes right there, and uh, well, well we think
- 25:56Speaker 4: we have a little bit of talent, which we didn't
- 25:58Speaker 4: last year. Was on the defensive line Taylor Blake. Like
- 26:02Speaker 4: Baker had some really nice things to say. I believe
- 26:05Speaker 4: this was e for Friday's practice. Yeah, talking about his
- 26:08Speaker 4: defense line, which is a question. We know we got
- 26:10Speaker 4: Prince and we got some talent coming in at the
- 26:12Speaker 4: edge because we did not have a I'm not even
- 26:15Speaker 4: gonna say a dominant edge rusher last year. We didn't
- 26:17Speaker 4: really have much of an individual edge rushing component to
- 26:20Speaker 4: our team last year, which has to change, and we
- 26:22Speaker 4: think it will. But from a run stop in from
- 26:24Speaker 4: a pass rushing standpoint, we think it's going to be
- 26:26Speaker 4: much improved.
- 26:27Speaker 3: Yeah, it should be. And Blake said as much on Friday.
- 26:30Speaker 3: He was saying, we have a lot more explosiveness at
- 26:32Speaker 3: this point here in camp than we had last year
- 26:34Speaker 3: in depth as well, and he's right. I mean, look
- 26:37Speaker 3: at the guys you brought in a year ago. Remember
- 26:39Speaker 3: we were high on this group because you brought in
- 26:41Speaker 3: Jack Pieburn, Patrick Paydon, Jamari Butler. All of those guys
- 26:45Speaker 3: were proven talents at the power four level.
- 26:48Speaker 2: Those three guys.
- 26:49Speaker 3: Combined for five sacks a year ago. All three of
- 26:52Speaker 3: your leading sat getter a year ago was Harold Perkins
- 26:55Speaker 3: at Matt's favorite position. The star with three and a
- 26:57Speaker 3: half sacks. That was your leading sat getter for a
- 26:59Speaker 3: year year ago. That can't happen. You gotta have more
- 27:02Speaker 3: production on your defensive line. Prince will Human Miellen double
- 27:06Speaker 3: digitsack guy a year ago. Jordan Ross has battled through
- 27:09Speaker 3: some injuries at Tennessee, but he's a highly recruited guy.
- 27:12Speaker 3: And then there's a depth behind him. Lamar Brown's going
- 27:15Speaker 3: to play a lot. Jayden Braaker moved from linebacker to
- 27:18Speaker 3: edge drusher. They like Dylan Carpenter, Trent and Henderson.
- 27:21Speaker 2: I mean, the.
- 27:21Speaker 3: Talent's there, and then Matt you look inside, it's a
- 27:25Speaker 3: lot of the same. Yeah, we talked about duce Geralds
- 27:27Speaker 3: and Richard Anderson as the two freshmen, Like I get it,
- 27:30Speaker 3: everyone's excited about him. But Maliku Blockdon coming over from Auburn,
- 27:33Speaker 3: that's a guy that's played a lot of power for football.
- 27:36Speaker 3: Stephilin Green from Clemson, who we just heard from Dabo
- 27:39Speaker 3: a lot of power for football. And then Dominic McKinley
- 27:41Speaker 3: in year three in this program. So whether it's on
- 27:44Speaker 3: the inside of the outside, there is a lot more
- 27:47Speaker 3: talent there a year ago. And what makes me most
- 27:49Speaker 3: excited is that I thought that the defensive staff did
- 27:52Speaker 3: a good job last year with not a lot to
- 27:54Speaker 3: work with. I think they have a lot more to
- 27:56Speaker 3: work with this year. Yeah, they really did.
- 27:58Speaker 4: And like you know, Kyle Williams former team of ours,
- 28:00Speaker 4: I think that are very They did a great job
- 28:03Speaker 4: last year. He's a very good coach and but with
- 28:06Speaker 4: not a ton of talent to work with. So definitely
- 28:10Speaker 4: improved on that. And look, we talked about Prince of
- 28:12Speaker 4: montome Ellen, like if he can just he didn't even
- 28:15Speaker 4: have to like duplicate from a stat perspective, what he
- 28:17Speaker 4: did last year, if he can just replicate it, if
- 28:19Speaker 4: he can have a high number of sex, but create
- 28:21Speaker 4: have it create, make offensive coordinators, make head coaches, make
- 28:26Speaker 4: them think about the pass rush enough to where they
- 28:29Speaker 4: have to chip with a running back, they have to
- 28:31Speaker 4: thump with a tied end, they have to plan around
- 28:34Speaker 4: a pass rusher. That's what offenses didn't have to do
- 28:38Speaker 4: last year. We had to create pressure with with five
- 28:42Speaker 4: man rush, six man rush. That's how we were able
- 28:44Speaker 4: to create sex and create pressure because you did not
- 28:47Speaker 4: get it from the four defensive linement. If you can
- 28:49Speaker 4: get consistent enough pressure with your front four. It creates
- 28:54Speaker 4: problems for the offensive coordinator. And then you have to,
- 28:57Speaker 4: like I said, you got to you gotta keep guys in.
- 28:59Speaker 4: You have to with more people or at least give
- 29:01Speaker 4: a presence for at least a half a second or
- 29:03Speaker 4: a full second with an extra with a tight end
- 29:07Speaker 4: or running back or sometimes even a receiver. So it
- 29:09Speaker 4: creates a lot of issues. And that is something that
- 29:11Speaker 4: Blake Baker had to work around last year and he's
- 29:13Speaker 4: awesome at it. He is awesome at creating different looks
- 29:16Speaker 4: and creating confusion to the quarterback. We saw he's one
- 29:19Speaker 4: of the best at like disguising and bringing a week
- 29:21Speaker 4: side corner blitzes, which is in college football is one
- 29:24Speaker 4: of the harder blitzes to see to pick up.
- 29:26Speaker 2: Hell, it's hard for professionals to pick it up. They
- 29:28Speaker 2: miss it all the time.
- 29:29Speaker 4: It's just because you can disguise it so well and
- 29:31Speaker 4: that corner gets there so quickly. So Blake is an
- 29:35Speaker 4: expert at that and we are and we've talked about
- 29:39Speaker 4: Blake Baker.
- 29:40Speaker 2: So many times on this show.
- 29:42Speaker 4: On in a world where the portal King Lan Kiffin
- 29:45Speaker 4: comes in and does an awesome job in the portal,
- 29:47Speaker 4: but one of his best moves, and the portal was
- 29:50Speaker 4: maintained in Blake Baker. Obviously he had a chance to
- 29:54Speaker 4: or so we've heard, had a chance to be the
- 29:55Speaker 4: head coach at his alma mater. We don't know how
- 29:58Speaker 4: long Blake Baker is going to be here as our
- 29:59Speaker 4: d defensive coordinator because he is a coach on the rise.
- 30:02Speaker 2: He will be a head coach.
- 30:04Speaker 4: Probably next year, I don't know, but we have him
- 30:07Speaker 4: for this year and we got what weeks and we
- 30:09Speaker 4: have a lot of talent and what Blake Baker can
- 30:13Speaker 4: do with that defense a lot more talented than last
- 30:16Speaker 4: year as a whole, and obviously there was a lot
- 30:18Speaker 4: of talented guys in the secondary last year. They have
- 30:21Speaker 4: more talented guys in the secondary of this year. I
- 30:22Speaker 4: don't know if they got a top ten pick, we'll see,
- 30:25Speaker 4: but from top to bottom, defensive line, the second level
- 30:29Speaker 4: of the linebackers back at the back end, with the secondary,
- 30:32Speaker 4: I think it's going to be a really good defense
- 30:34Speaker 4: and hopefully like last year, the defense was really good.
- 30:36Speaker 4: The defense was respected. I don't think they were feared.
- 30:40Speaker 4: Can LSU get back to having a defense that is feared?
- 30:45Speaker 4: So that will be the question that Blake Baker and
- 30:48Speaker 4: his team and his side of the ball will be
- 30:50Speaker 4: able to answer.
- 30:52Speaker 2: And guess what.
- 30:53Speaker 4: Only eighteen more sleeps till we get to see it,
- 30:55Speaker 4: till we get those answers this year for the LSU Tigers. Baby,
- 30:59Speaker 4: So I'm fired up. I'm excited. Blake Baker, one last ride,
- 31:04Speaker 4: let's get her done?
- 31:07Speaker 3: You calling it now? You're saying one last ride? Are
- 31:09Speaker 3: you calling it?
- 31:10Speaker 2: Blake ahead? Coach next year? I think he is, probably,
- 31:12Speaker 2: I mean, unless they're some I think.
- 31:15Speaker 8: We were lucky to get him back this season.
- 31:17Speaker 4: That was like the best recruiting job ever, right, and
- 31:20Speaker 4: Lane's not can get a lot of credit for that
- 31:22Speaker 4: because it doesn't go on as the stats is like
- 31:24Speaker 4: the number one portal class, number one recruiting.
- 31:26Speaker 2: Class, but the number one coach.
- 31:28Speaker 1: That was.
- 31:28Speaker 4: That's what I'm saying, Like we said it when Lane
- 31:31Speaker 4: got hired. Here, everyone's like, what do you think of Lane?
- 31:33Speaker 2: What? Like, how's he doing?
- 31:34Speaker 4: I'm like, I don't know, we got nothing to great
- 31:36Speaker 4: until the portal window opens.
- 31:38Speaker 2: Well, he knocked it out.
- 31:39Speaker 4: That like the first gradable thing that we had on
- 31:41Speaker 4: Lane Kiffin was awesome job in the portal, and he
- 31:45Speaker 4: kept Blake Baker. Those are two things. Now, it's how
- 31:49Speaker 4: long do you keep Blake for? That remains to be seen.
- 31:52Speaker 4: If LSU's defense, an LSU team as a whole, is
- 31:55Speaker 4: really good this year, and how the only reason I
- 31:58Speaker 4: think that he wouldn't be I guess as if the
- 32:01Speaker 4: defense isn't good.
- 32:02Speaker 3: Right, which there's no evidence to the point that it's
- 32:05Speaker 3: not going to be.
- 32:06Speaker 2: Right.
- 32:07Speaker 3: Blake has improved every year he's been here, right, And
- 32:09Speaker 3: like I bet I've been critical against the whole running
- 32:12Speaker 3: quarterback situation. But also, if the defensive line can get
- 32:15Speaker 3: pressure Matt, you don't have to blitz of those linebackers.
- 32:17Speaker 3: They can sit back and wait. That'll help with a
- 32:19Speaker 3: running quarterback, So that changes everything. But also, look what
- 32:23Speaker 3: the defense was two years ago and look where it
- 32:25Speaker 3: is now, right, Like, nobody's gonna hate those results.
- 32:28Speaker 4: And he's so good at creating pressure. And but people
- 32:31Speaker 4: knew last year that he was it was going to
- 32:33Speaker 4: have to be Blake Baker in his disguises, in his
- 32:35Speaker 4: creativity that that worried offenses. Think of how good it's
- 32:40Speaker 4: going to be if you can get an edge rush,
- 32:42Speaker 4: Like if you can create pressure with your front four.
- 32:44Speaker 4: Think of how good his play calling, his game planning
- 32:47Speaker 4: can be. So I'm excited to see it. Prince wille Montuelan,
- 32:51Speaker 4: like I said, he doesn't have to duplicate the stats,
- 32:53Speaker 4: but if he can replicate the disruption that he was
- 32:55Speaker 4: able to have, he was what was he third in
- 32:57Speaker 4: the SEC and sacks last year? If he can just
- 33:00Speaker 4: be in that world around that nine ten eight nine
- 33:03Speaker 4: ten sack like it's gonna it's gonna do a lot
- 33:05Speaker 4: for Blake Baker and his staff and the rest of
- 33:07Speaker 4: that defense. So excited to see you play out and again.
- 33:10Speaker 4: Eighteen more sleeps until we get to watch it take
- 33:12Speaker 4: on Clemson.
- 33:13Speaker 6: Baby, Can I say the eighteen more sleeps thing that
- 33:15Speaker 6: you the more sleep thing it gives. It gives like
- 33:19Speaker 6: millennial white woman just telling her kids, like, eighteen more
- 33:23Speaker 6: sleeps till Christmas.
- 33:24Speaker 2: I know it's eighteen Christmas thing. Look I got kids.
- 33:26Speaker 8: It's giving live laf love.
- 33:28Speaker 2: Absolutely, that's kind of what I'm meant to do.
- 33:30Speaker 4: Yeah, so you're welcome for that blast love and death.

- 35:23Speaker 8: I just like the beginning. We're like, it's.
- 35:28Speaker 2: OK.
- 35:28Speaker 3: It goes hard though not so over there, like this
- 35:31Speaker 3: is pretty catchy.
- 35:33Speaker 2: I like this is one catchy tune. We'll come back here.

- 35:58Speaker 4: I'll drive you that new car it off, take your
- 36:00Speaker 4: old car back.
- 36:01Speaker 2: It's incredible. All right.
- 36:05Speaker 4: There is a quarterback out there that's starting to lose
- 36:07Speaker 4: that new quarterback smell does a play on New Car
- 36:11Speaker 4: smell elandre that's all your eyes Jackson Dart. I think
- 36:17Speaker 4: the number one goal for the New York Jets going
- 36:21Speaker 4: into this year that we all heard, all saw, all suspected.
- 36:25Speaker 4: Let's keep Jackson Dart healthy. Okay, what do we see that?
- 36:29Speaker 4: Like the first drive of the game, the first highlight,
- 36:32Speaker 4: they just completely whiff on a block and he gets
- 36:34Speaker 4: absolutely crushed and sitting there and laying on the field
- 36:37Speaker 4: and I go, here we go again. He goes to
- 36:39Speaker 4: the sideline. What do they do? They take him to
- 36:43Speaker 4: the medical tent to be evaluated for a concussion.
- 36:46Speaker 8: Tale as old as time.
- 36:47Speaker 2: Tales old at times.
- 36:48Speaker 4: If I've seen if I had a nickel, every time
- 36:50Speaker 4: he got evaluated for a concussion. My boy wasn't real
- 36:54Speaker 4: excited about that. He makes some comments he wasn't real
- 36:59Speaker 4: thrilled about the proto call. He said he was quote
- 37:01Speaker 4: puzzled that he had to go into the injury tent
- 37:05Speaker 4: and be.
- 37:05Speaker 8: You know, evaluated for well, yeah, you had a concussion.
- 37:08Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 37:09Speaker 4: And then John Harball after the game kind of makes
- 37:13Speaker 4: some comments not like directed towards it, but kind of
- 37:16Speaker 4: like getting his quarterbacks back a little bit about you know,
- 37:22Speaker 4: the whole protocol situation. The person we know that you
- 37:25Speaker 4: know made the stock comments like we know they're there
- 37:28Speaker 4: for the player safety and they should be blah blah blah.
- 37:30Speaker 4: It wasn't like didn't necessarily come out defending the NFL
- 37:34Speaker 4: or defending Jackson just kind of played middle road there
- 37:36Speaker 4: a little bit. Just kind of got me thinking about
- 37:42Speaker 4: his history, right, and like he was upset that he
- 37:46Speaker 4: got evaluated. But I'm also watched it and I was like,
- 37:50Speaker 4: you got crushed and you laid there for like ten
- 37:54Speaker 4: seconds and didn't move. Yeah, of course they're going to
- 37:57Speaker 4: be on heightened. Then your history also determines whether what
- 38:01Speaker 4: these guys are doing there. It plays a factor in
- 38:04Speaker 4: their decision, Like if you have a history concussion, it's
- 38:06Speaker 4: going to play a factor in that evaluation. My question
- 38:12Speaker 4: when I started thinking about this and seeing like his
- 38:16Speaker 4: reaction to it and kind of his history and his
- 38:19Speaker 4: play style, I don't know if he's he's too young
- 38:21Speaker 4: for his play stole to really change. I don't think
- 38:22Speaker 4: he's going to mature to the fact where he's going
- 38:24Speaker 4: to play any differently, especially like it it was a
- 38:27Speaker 4: good hit, right.
- 38:28Speaker 3: So shout out former Tiger Jay Ward the one lay
- 38:31Speaker 3: in the wood right there?
- 38:33Speaker 2: Oh really yep?
- 38:34Speaker 4: Well not shout out to Tyrone Tracy who just missed
- 38:37Speaker 4: the block. Like the one thing you do is was
- 38:39Speaker 4: protect your quarterback in preseason game number one, he.
- 38:43Speaker 2: Actually fell down untouched.
- 38:49Speaker 4: If Jackson gets a concussion this year or gets injured,
- 38:54Speaker 4: is he in threat early in his career to kind
- 38:58Speaker 4: of like we say his name, we think of like Tua,
- 39:04Speaker 4: is he in this?
- 39:05Speaker 6: I was thinking he's gonna end up being like Tua
- 39:09Speaker 6: where we're where we debate. He's very young, but is
- 39:13Speaker 6: it time for him to just hang it up because
- 39:15Speaker 6: you've taken so many hits to the head, Like for Tua,
- 39:19Speaker 6: let him have one more a bad hit.
- 39:21Speaker 4: Yeah, And I'm not and I'm not saying like that,
- 39:25Speaker 4: not going like the hanging up.
- 39:26Speaker 8: A situation, but right way, wait wait wait wait.
- 39:29Speaker 4: But like it's like when you think of Tua, you
- 39:32Speaker 4: think of injury. Yeah, you think of concussion, you think
- 39:35Speaker 4: of there is a proclivity towards that you think of.
- 39:38Speaker 4: He is for whatever reason, he gets them more than
- 39:41Speaker 4: other people for whatever reason. Then maybe that's his play style,
- 39:43Speaker 4: maybe that's his genetics, whatever it is. But there's a
- 39:46Speaker 4: stigma that comes when you hear the name Tua. Yeah,
- 39:51Speaker 4: how far are we away? How much do you things
- 39:53Speaker 4: have to change for Jackson Dart not to get that
- 39:56Speaker 4: same sigma, And I hope he doesn't. I hope he
- 39:58Speaker 4: stays healthy. He's fun to watch, She's a good player,
- 40:02Speaker 4: so I hope he stays healthy. Tyrone Tracy blocked the
- 40:06Speaker 4: edge rusher. It's your job. You're a professional. You can't
- 40:09Speaker 4: give a guy like that's if that's not a veteran
- 40:12Speaker 4: right there, I'm cutting him on the spot because that's
- 40:14Speaker 4: my starting quarterback. That's that's you can't let that happen. Yeah, accidents,
- 40:18Speaker 4: mistakes happened, miss assignments happened. They do happen, and they
- 40:23Speaker 4: can also get you cut if your dumb mistake threatens
- 40:27Speaker 4: the starting quarterback that has a proclivity for injuries.
- 40:31Speaker 3: So I guess my thing is, like I heard it
- 40:33Speaker 3: this morning driving in was everybody was criticizing Jackson Dart
- 40:37Speaker 3: in his style of play and all those like style
- 40:39Speaker 3: playing really calls of this injury. That's a miss block.
- 40:42Speaker 3: And yes he was sent off the field. He came
- 40:46Speaker 3: back in on that same drive and thro a touchdown pass.
- 40:49Speaker 3: He was obviously fine. I pulled up his rookie year,
- 40:52Speaker 3: he was evaluated five times for concussions, including preseason last year.
- 40:57Speaker 3: He was only diagnosed with one concussion last year. So
- 41:00Speaker 3: the protocol a lot of times, the wrest will send
- 41:02Speaker 3: you off the field. It's not even most of the time.
- 41:03Speaker 3: Actually it's not even a team decision. The raffle sends
- 41:06Speaker 3: you off. So, I mean, he was diagnosed with one concussion,
- 41:10Speaker 3: miss two weeks. It was week eleven and week twelve.
- 41:12Speaker 3: You go back to college, no concussions. He towards right meniscus,
- 41:18Speaker 3: miss four games his freshman year at USC, then an
- 41:21Speaker 3: ankle spraying in twenty twenty four year old miss. So
- 41:25Speaker 3: like he's actually been relatively healthy. Like, I get it,
- 41:28Speaker 3: he's been evaluated a lot of times, but there were
- 41:30Speaker 3: a lot of people like, oh, if he keeps this up.
- 41:32Speaker 3: I'm like, he' said one concussion so far in the
- 41:35Speaker 3: n IF. I get the evaluation and all that, but
- 41:37Speaker 3: I mean, I think we're a little off from that
- 41:40Speaker 3: right now. He's still places on helping things. But yeah,
- 41:44Speaker 3: and it's not in a stigma. Always isn't necessarily true.
- 41:48Speaker 3: It comes from true. It's like, where's where there's smoke,
- 41:51Speaker 3: there's fire, and being evaluated makes you worry for the
- 41:56Speaker 3: style of play comes into fact. No, things like this
- 42:00Speaker 3: hit was not his style of play. That was that
- 42:02Speaker 3: was That was a running back making a stupid mistake
- 42:05Speaker 3: that almost cost your started quarterback. Like if I'm I'm
- 42:08Speaker 3: getting on that coach of staff, he's getting lit up
- 42:12Speaker 3: after that game, that running back.
- 42:15Speaker 4: It's not style of play. But there is a stigma
- 42:17Speaker 4: that comes with five evaluations is indictment on your style
- 42:21Speaker 4: of play. And he's gonna have to grow up and
- 42:22Speaker 4: he's gonna have to learn and you don't. There's there's
- 42:24Speaker 4: a fine line because you don't want to take away
- 42:26Speaker 4: his play making ability. You don't want to take away
- 42:28Speaker 4: the thing that makes him a good quarterback. But he
- 42:32Speaker 4: does have to learn to play smarter. And this is
- 42:34Speaker 4: the thing that a lot of quarterbacks have to learn
- 42:36Speaker 4: when they're when they're young and they come out of college,
- 42:39Speaker 4: uh that it's a different game. You have to protect
- 42:41Speaker 4: yourselves and not a lot of young quarterbacks get to
- 42:44Speaker 4: learn that from the sideline. He's having to learn that
- 42:47Speaker 4: with live bullets thrown at him. So we hope he
- 42:49Speaker 4: stays healthy. He's fun to watch. It's fun to watch
- 42:52Speaker 4: that team. It's fun to watch someone play with that
- 42:54Speaker 4: different play style. But if he wants a long, long career,
- 42:57Speaker 4: he's gonna have to change his play style a little bit.
- 43:00Speaker 2: So we'll see, we'll see what happens.
- 43:01Speaker 4: But anyway, here's to his brain, Scataboo's brain, here's his brain.
- 43:07Speaker 4: Stay healthy, Yeah, cheers, stay healthy out there.
- 43:12Speaker 2: Yeah like that.
- 43:14Speaker 4: All right, let's go to break. When we come back,

- 45:16Speaker 6: Ok?
- 45:16Speaker 2: Yeah, why not? Why not? Why the hell not?
- 45:21Speaker 8: Why are we actually like, I'm weird for saying that?
- 45:23Speaker 2: Adra? What so strange? Threes up?
- 45:26Speaker 8: Go see them closing out the our eggs?
- 45:30Speaker 4: Huh. Jake's in Atlanta. What a loser?
