Latest / DEEP INSIGHT / Hegseth, Trump sets record straight on narco boat strikes
Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: I wanted to clarify something that you had said on
- 0:02Speaker 1: Sunday regarding the boat strikes near Venezuela. And you had
- 0:05Speaker 1: said that you didn't know if the second strike on
- 0:08Speaker 1: that one boat had happened, but you wouldn't have wanted it.
- 0:11Speaker 1: Now that your administration has acknowledged that it happened, do
- 0:14Speaker 1: you support that second strike? And mister Secretary, I want
- 0:17Speaker 1: to clarify something you had said in an interview back
- 0:19Speaker 1: at September. I believe on Fox News you said that
- 0:21Speaker 1: you had watched that strike live on television in real time.
- 0:26Speaker 1: Did you know that there were survivors after the initial stroke?
- 0:30Speaker 2: Well, look, all I know is this every boat that
- 0:33Speaker 2: you see get blown up, we saved twenty five thousand,
- 0:35Speaker 2: on average lives, twenty five thousand lives. They've been sending
- 0:39Speaker 2: enough of this horrible fentanyl and other things.
- 0:44Speaker 3: Like cocaine and other things. But Feddohl right now is
- 0:47Speaker 3: the leader of the pack to kill our entire nation.
- 0:52Speaker 2: Because a little speck of the head of a pin
- 0:54Speaker 2: can kill somebody is very dangerous. If I know so
- 0:58Speaker 2: many people with this somebswhere drug I actually had one
- 1:00Speaker 2: little sample and they died. They died they couldn't believe it.
- 1:06Speaker 2: As far as the attack is concerned, I didn't, you know.
- 1:09Speaker 2: I still haven't gotten a lot of information because they
- 1:13Speaker 2: rely on Pete. But to me, it was an attack.
- 1:15Speaker 2: It wasn't one strike, two strikes, three strikes.
- 1:18Speaker 3: Somebody asked me a question about the second struck. I
- 1:20Speaker 3: didn't know about the second strike. I didn't know anything
- 1:22Speaker 3: about people. I wasn't involved.
- 1:24Speaker 2: I knew they took out about but I would say this,
- 1:28Speaker 2: they had a strike. I hear the gentleman that was
- 1:31Speaker 2: in charge of that as extraordinaries, extraordinary personal, and Pete
- 1:36Speaker 2: speak about him. But Pete was satisfied. Pete didn't know
- 1:40Speaker 2: about second attack having to do with two people, and
- 1:46Speaker 2: I guess Pete would have to speak to it. I
- 1:47Speaker 2: can say this, I want those boats taken out, and
- 1:50Speaker 2: if we have to, will attack on land also, just
- 1:53Speaker 2: like we attack on sea.
- 1:54Speaker 3: And they're very little coming in by sea. I think
- 1:56Speaker 3: we've knocked out over ninety percent of it. There's very
- 1:59Speaker 3: little to say that, there's very little.
- 2:02Speaker 2: We're saving hundreds of thousands of lives with those pinpoint attacks.
- 2:07Speaker 3: It's an amazing thing when you see.
- 2:08Speaker 2: A boat going along and you know a lot of
- 2:11Speaker 2: the press would like to say they're not.
- 2:12Speaker 3: You see the boat, they're not maybe drugs.
- 2:15Speaker 2: You see these boats first of all, who has five
- 2:18Speaker 2: engines on the back of a boat going in weird
- 2:21Speaker 2: directions and loaded up with lots of white contactors.
- 2:26Speaker 3: They'revolved their bags or things.
- 2:29Speaker 2: Now they've done an amazing job, and Peter's done an
- 2:31Speaker 2: amazing job.
- 2:32Speaker 3: Pete, you could probably vener answer the question our spot
- 2:35Speaker 3: on SWIR.
- 2:36Speaker 4: I think you got to start with the baseline which
- 2:38Speaker 4: Marco laid out and was laid out and got twenty
- 2:40Speaker 4: million people invading.
- 2:42Speaker 5: Our country over four years. We don't know where they're
- 2:44Speaker 5: coming from.
- 2:45Speaker 4: That includes trendy arragua and cartels and violent criminals.
- 2:48Speaker 5: They bring drugs, and you mentioned it, mister.
- 2:50Speaker 4: President, poisoning and intentional poisoning of the American people, killing
- 2:54Speaker 4: hundreds of thousands of Americans. So the president had the
- 2:57Speaker 4: courage to designate these cartels, has designated terrorist organizations. A
- 3:03Speaker 4: number of US here served in the military and spent
- 3:05Speaker 4: twenty years fighting terrorists like al Qaeda and Isis on
- 3:08Speaker 4: the other side of the world.
- 3:10Speaker 5: How do you treat al Qaeda and Isis?
- 3:11Speaker 4: Do you arrest them and treat them, pat them on
- 3:13Speaker 4: the head and say don't do that again. Or you
- 3:16Speaker 4: end the problem directly by taking a lethal kinetic approach.
- 3:21Speaker 4: And that's the way President Trump has authorized the War Department.
- 3:24Speaker 5: To look at these cartels.
- 3:25Speaker 4: And I wish everybody could be in the room watching
- 3:28Speaker 4: our professionals, Our professionals.
- 3:30Speaker 5: Like Mitch Bradley, Admiral Mitch Bradley and others at Jaysacket,
- 3:33Speaker 5: so calm and other commanders.
- 3:35Speaker 4: The deliberative process, the detail, the rigorous, the intel, the legal,
- 3:40Speaker 4: the evidence based way that we're able to with sources
- 3:43Speaker 4: and methods.
- 3:44Speaker 5: That we can't reveal here. Make sure that every one.
- 3:46Speaker 4: Of those drug boats is tied to a designated terrorist organization.
- 3:49Speaker 4: We know who's on it, what they're doing, what they're carrying.
- 3:52Speaker 4: All these white bails or not Christmas gifts from Santa.
- 3:55Speaker 4: This is drugs running on four motor fast boats or submarines.
- 4:00Speaker 5: That we've also struck. No one's fishing on a submarine.
- 4:03Speaker 3: And I have empowered them to make that.
- 4:06Speaker 5: Call now the first couple of strikes, as you would,
- 4:09Speaker 5: as any leader would want, you want to own that responsibility.
- 4:12Speaker 4: So I said, I'm going to be the one to
- 4:14Speaker 4: make the call after getting all the.
- 4:15Speaker 5: Information and make sure it's the right strike. That was
- 4:18Speaker 5: September second.
- 4:19Speaker 6: There's a lot of intelligence that goes into that building
- 4:22Speaker 6: that case and understanding that a lot of people providing information.
- 4:25Speaker 6: I watched that first strike life, as you can imagine,
- 4:28Speaker 6: at the Department of War, we got a lot of
- 4:29Speaker 6: things to do, so I didn't stick around for the
- 4:32Speaker 6: hour and two hours whatever where all.
- 4:34Speaker 4: The sensitive site exploitation digitally occurs.
- 4:37Speaker 5: So I moved on to my next meeting.
- 4:38Speaker 4: A couple of hours later, I learned that that commander
- 4:41Speaker 4: had made which he had the complete authority to do.
- 4:44Speaker 4: And by the way, Edward Bradley made the correct decision
- 4:47Speaker 4: to ultimately sink the boat and eliminate the threat. He
- 4:50Speaker 4: sunk the boat, sunk the boat and eliminated the threat,
- 4:55Speaker 4: and he was the right call.
- 4:57Speaker 5: We have his back and the American people are safer
- 5:00Speaker 5: because narco terrorists.
- 5:02Speaker 4: No, you can't bring drugs through the water and eventually
- 5:06Speaker 4: on land if necessary, I have to do to the
- 5:08Speaker 4: American people.
- 5:09Speaker 5: We will eliminate that threat, and we're proud to do it.
- 5:11Speaker 1: So you didn't see any survivors to be clear after
- 5:14Speaker 1: that first jot.
- 5:16Speaker 4: I did not personally see survivors, but I stand because
- 5:19Speaker 4: the thing was on fire. I was exploded in fires smoke,
- 5:22Speaker 4: you can't see anything. You got digital. This is called
- 5:25Speaker 4: the folk of war. This is what you and the
- 5:27Speaker 4: press don't understand. You sit in your conditioned offices or
- 5:31Speaker 4: up on Capitol Hill and you knit pick and you
- 5:33Speaker 4: plant fake stories in the Washington Post about kill everybody,
- 5:37Speaker 4: phrases on anonymous sources, not based.
- 5:39Speaker 5: In anything, not based in any truth at all, and
- 5:42Speaker 5: then you want.
- 5:43Speaker 4: To throw up really irresponsible terms about American heroes, about
- 5:47Speaker 4: the judgment that they made. I wrote a whole book
- 5:49Speaker 4: on this topic because of what politicians and the press
- 5:52Speaker 4: does to war fighters.
- 5:54Speaker 5: President Trump has empowered.
- 5:55Speaker 4: Commanders, commanders to do what is necessary, which is dark
- 5:59Speaker 4: and difficult. He's in the dead of night on behalf
- 6:01Speaker 4: of the American people. We support them and will stop
- 6:04Speaker 4: the poisoning.
- 6:05Speaker 5: Of the American people.
- 6:06Speaker 1: And it's the secretary on the second strike, you said
- 6:08Speaker 1: it happened more than an hour after the first that
- 6:10Speaker 1: I hear Courent.
- 6:11Speaker 4: The exact amount of time, and it's you're about the rooms,
- 6:14Speaker 4: which we're saying, I already stated my answer quite clearly.
- 6:17Speaker 3: So remember this, we lost last year.
- 6:20Speaker 2: I think it was more than that, but you know,
- 6:22Speaker 2: people don't like saying it because they always said one
- 6:24Speaker 2: hundred thousand, one hundred and fifteen thousand numbers we've been
- 6:27Speaker 2: hearing for years. So we lost last year more than
- 6:30Speaker 2: two hundred thousand people dead, people ruined families beyond the
- 6:34Speaker 2: two hundred thousand, and those two hundred thousand, that family
- 6:37Speaker 2: will never be the same. But these people have killed
- 6:41Speaker 2: over two hundred thousand people, actually killed over two hundred
- 6:44Speaker 2: thousand people last year, and those numbers are down. Those
- 6:49Speaker 2: numbers are down and way down, and they're down because
- 6:52Speaker 2: we're doing these strikes and we're going to start doing
- 6:54Speaker 2: those strikes on the land too. You know, the land
- 6:56Speaker 2: is much easier, it's much easier, and we know the
- 7:00Speaker 2: out say take, we know everything about them, we know
- 7:02Speaker 2: where they live, we know where the bad ones live,
- 7:05Speaker 2: and we're going to start that very soon too.
- 7:09Speaker 3: Always start that.
- 7:10Speaker 2: We're going to grab those us down so low, and
- 7:13Speaker 2: then you're gonna have families to be able to live without.
- 7:15Speaker 3: The fear of their son or daughter just having a pill,
- 7:20Speaker 3: to have.
- 7:20Speaker 2: A little fun and ending up dying within a period
- 7:24Speaker 2: of sixty seconds. Now, we're not gonna let that happen.
- 7:28Speaker 2: We're not gonna let it continue to happen. What Biden
- 7:30Speaker 2: did to this country by allowing all these people, and
- 7:34Speaker 2: I call them animals in many cases, I think they
- 7:36Speaker 2: are animals to come into our country and destroy our
- 7:39Speaker 2: country and let all those drugs pour in, let people
- 7:42Speaker 2: just walk across the border like.
- 7:44Speaker 3: It was nothing.
- 7:46Speaker 2: You look at them, a lot of them, you know,
- 7:47Speaker 2: they say, oh, let's not discriminate.
- 7:49Speaker 3: I'm not talking about color. I'm just talking about you.
- 7:51Speaker 3: Look into the eyes of some of these people. We're smart,
- 7:55Speaker 3: and you see a killer. Come on in, just come on.
- 7:58Speaker 2: In eleventh, eight hundred and eighty eight murderers, many of
- 8:03Speaker 2: them committed more than one murder. He allowed them into
- 8:05Speaker 2: our country totally undrevented, totally unchecked. But he also allowed
- 8:10Speaker 2: drugs to come in at record numbers, and hundreds of
- 8:13Speaker 2: thousands of people a year died.
- 8:15Speaker 3: And we're taking those son of a bitches out you.
- 8:18Speaker 7: Hey, everyone, I'm Emily Campano. Catch me and my co
