- 0:22SPEAKER_00: Today on the podcast, we're wrapping up this short series that we've been doing on the productive rider.
- 0:28SPEAKER_00: Most people, including myself, create some kind of task list every day, and we call this a to-do list.
- 0:34SPEAKER_00: And these are things that we feel we have to get done that day.
- 0:39SPEAKER_00: Now, that's all well and good, and those can be very valuable in helping us to be more productive.
- 0:43SPEAKER_00: But in a world that increasingly demands our attention every second, in a world that's filled with ever increasing opportunities and connections, this list, this to-do list that we feel is so essential, it seems to get longer all the time.
- 0:58SPEAKER_00: And I want to suggest to you that the antidote to this is to create a stopdoing list.
- 1:03SPEAKER_00: And these are things you're not going to do.
- 1:06SPEAKER_00: Let me give you 10 suggestions of things to stop doing this year.
- 1:11SPEAKER_00: Number one, stop committing to extra activities that you don't need to be doing in the first place.
- 1:16SPEAKER_00: Number two, stop feeling guilty all the time.
- 1:20SPEAKER_00: Number three, stop answering email 28 times a day.
- 1:24SPEAKER_00: Number four, stop helping everybody for free and charge people for your time.
- 1:29SPEAKER_00: Number five, stop starting new projects until you finish the current one.
- 1:34SPEAKER_00: Number six, stop comparing yourself to other writers and getting entangled in all the mess of jealousy.
- 1:40SPEAKER_00: Number seven, stop watching the news because most of it isn't any good to begin with.
- 1:45SPEAKER_00: Number eight, stop holding grudges against people.
- 1:48SPEAKER_00: Number nine, stop listening to people who don't believe in you and your talent.
- 1:53SPEAKER_00: And then number ten, stop following people on social media who irritate you, even if it's people in your family.
- 2:00SPEAKER_00: Here's what I know.
- 2:01SPEAKER_00: Success as a writer and as a creative person isn't really a matter of doing more.
- 2:05SPEAKER_00: It's also a matter of eliminating the negative and unproductive things in your life so the good things can naturally start sprouting up.
- 2:12SPEAKER_00: Here's today's challenge.
- 2:14SPEAKER_00: Choose one of the items I just listed and stop doing it today.
- 2:18SPEAKER_00: Before I close out this episode, I want to let you know about something that I did add to my to-do list recently, and that is Indie Author University featuring the Book Marketing Mastery course.
