Today, let's go to the market to buy some vegetables. Luna: Oh, I love markets! All those fresh colours and smells. Lucas: Exactly. And we'll learn how to ask for what you want. First phrase: 'Vorrei delle zucchine.' That means 'I would like some zucchini.' Say it with me: Vorrei delle zucchine. Luna: Vorrei delle zucchine. Lucas: Good. Vorrei is 'I would like,' delle means 'some,' and zucchine is 'zucchini.' Now, the seller will tell you the price. You can ask: 'Quanto costano?' — 'How much do they cost?' Try it. Luna: Quanto costano? Lucas: Perfect. Now, if you want three zucchini, you say: 'Ne vorrei tre.' — 'I would like three of them.' Ne means 'of them,' vorrei is 'I would like,' tre is 'three.' So: Ne vorrei tre. Luna: Ne vorrei tre. Lucas: Great. Then, when the seller hands them to you, you can say 'Ecco a lei.' — 'Here you go.' And you can respond with 'Va bene così.' — 'That's fine.' Let's practice the whole exchange. Luna: Okay! So I walk up and say: Vorrei delle zucchine. The seller says a price, then I ask: Quanto costano? Lucas: Right. The seller says two euros per kilo. Then you say: Ne vorrei tre. Luna: Ne vorrei tre. Then they give them to me and say 'Ecco a lei,' and I say 'Va bene così.' Lucas: Perfect! Now let's do a quick role-play. I'll be the seller. You start. Luna: Vorrei delle zucchine. Lucas: Certo, sono due euro al chilo. Quante ne vuole? Luna: Ne vorrei tre. Lucas: Ecco a lei. Luna: Va bene così. Lucas: Well done! You just bought zucchini at an Italian market. Luna: That felt so real! I could almost smell the market. Lucas: And you used all five phrases perfectly. Let's review them: Vorrei delle zucchine.
