[upbeat music] Hi. Yes. Hey. Hi, hi there.
0:18
Hey. This is the Full Spectrum Cycling, show number 221. [upbeat music] That's a lot of shows. 2-2-1. Long show. The full cast and crew is here today. Across from me there's, uh, Mr. Tony Burger. Hey.
0:34
Coming in hot, Tony Burger. [laughs] Grilled cheese hot. Grilled cheese on pumpernickel hot. Uh, JK to my left. Hello, hello. If you were here, you'd be able to see that in person. Hi. Your, uh- Hi. I'm good...
0:47
your, uh, your, your beard's looking pretty long and- That's just freaky, man... groovy. [laughs] I... So mine used to grow long, but it seems to have not... It's not doing its thing.
0:59
You gotta put like a- It goes in a stall for- Right... a month or two there. You gotta put a stop motion on that thing. Yeah, it's like tucking under a lot, which is kind of all right, but... Yeah.
1:06
I've got part tucking under and then other part swooping out, so they're fighting for- Dominance of your face... yeah. So then all... That's why they go long. [laughs] Go long. We'll see. It's, it's coming up on...
1:19
It's, uh, it's been cool out there. It's getting me in mind of a, a little bit of a fall/winter action. Cool or fantastic? Yeah, pretty fantastic. Pretty freaking fantastic riding weather.
1:30
I had to have a, put a smock on this morning, but easily should've- I'm, I'm okay with wearing a smock- Oh, yeah... to be able to take one off. You can always take more clothes off.
1:39
Had more- You can't- Yeah, had more pockets than what I'm- Other way around. Other way around... dealing with. [laughs] Yeah, you can't take more clothes off than- Eventually you're arrested if you take more clothes off.
1:46
But you can put 'em on. Yeah, yeah. It's been fantastic. Uh, Saturday was fantastic. Wow. Was it ever. We, uh, had... Well, JK had Steel Is Real. Yes. We'll, we'll have a Steel Is Real- [laughs]...
2:02
report and, uh, tales of fun and, and- [laughs]... and maybe woe, I'm not sure, t- in just a sec. [laughs] Probably talk about some polka riding. Polka riding? Whatever. Um- A little polking... yeah, yeah.
2:14
Yeah, let's just jump right into Steel Is Real, because... Well, while you were Steel Is Realing- [laughs]... I was stripping the wax off the floor [laughs] in the new, the new space. Oh, nice. So that's...
2:26
I was like, "I gotta get this done," because it was the 10th, or the 9th, right? The 9th. Correct. JK's birthday the 9th. Ding ding.
2:34
And I've had that space now for n- at that point nine days, and nothing had really happened except the lock got changed, and the owner of the building, he's like, "Yeah, I'll take care of those floors for you." I'm like,
2:46
"Floors aren't getting taken care of." True.
2:48
So, you know, d- I need to be out of the, the storage unit by the 14th, and I didn't wanna l- s- wait till the last minute, because then the elevator didn't work or something happens and you can't get it done. Right.
3:01
So, uh, I was in there on Sunday stripping the floor, and he walked in. I'm like, "I just thought I'd take care of this." He goes, "Oh, I was gonna have some Phil take care of that."
3:12
I go, "Well, he didn't, hasn't done it, and I got a be-" You know, blah, blah, blah. So he goes, "Well, it's looking really good." I go, "Yeah." He goes, "Well, how about I just don't charge you rent until October 1st?"
3:21
Okay. I said, "Thank you very much." I say yes. [laughs] "I will, I will put two coats of sealer and three coats of polish on for you. Thank you very much." [laughs] If, if, if you... Yes. So- November, you say, right?
3:31
Yeah. [laughs] Just making sure. Well, yeah. Did you say November? No, it turned out great. Uh, you can go stick your head in there- [laughs]... after the show and be like- Fumes?... "Oh, it's-" Will we get a buzz?
3:41
Well, they're... Yeah, they were kind of- Well, that's why... semi-buzzy on, on Monday when I did the polish coat. Oh, the buzz and the- Had the windows open... dull hangover headache... yeah, not so much. Oh.
3:51
But it looks way better than it did, I gotta tell you that. Nice. Nice. And unfortunately now I just have to stack boxes in there temporarily until get that set up and then we...
4:01
It's gonna be another dance, but at least it's in the same building. Right. The dance will happen right across the hall. Door to door. Yeah. Yeah. So I'm super excited about that.
4:09
So that's what I was doing before Steel Is Real. Yeah, did the traditional rollout from Hollander. Right on. And then it was, uh, why not two proposed, but they weren't open yet. You know that's- Oh.
4:23
You know that's Tony backwards, right? Yes. Yeah, you... Well- Well, there's Coffee Tales, which is attached- Right... but they s- keep it independent and kinda militantly so. Like, "You can't go up there."
4:35
You know, "Da, yeah, yeah, yeah." Yeah, but you can see up there. You can look right up there. Yeah. You just can't- It... I just remember e- That was- It was like every time we go there it's a battle, like that...
4:43
that's, is that the door on- Van Buren... Van Buren? Yeah. Okay. Yeah. Yeah. It, was Jermaine working? No, I don't think so. Oh. So yeah, that was a little bit of calamity.
4:53
Uh, Phil and Georgia rode with us from Hollander to there. Phil VanValkenburg, the guy who started Steel Is Real. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm, mm-hmm. Exactly. Yeah. So that was good. Um- P-oy. And is now semi-incapacitated.
5:06
Yes, on the recumbent- Of the stroke nature... the electrified recumbent. Oh, nice. They electrified that beast. Ele- it electrified trike, whatever that long-ass thing. Yeah. Recumbent- Yeah... tandem trike. Yeah.
5:17
[laughs] That, that thing is- Which is a beast... just... Oh, yeah. For real. For real. Uh, you know, and part of me is like, you know, like I wasn't ride leader on that leg, thankfully. [laughs] Or maybe not.
5:29
I don't know. [laughs] I don't know. I, we just didn't have... I had ideas, but whatever. Um, so it was from there to... It was proposed for Great Lakes. Well, Zad's is close enough, and just like- Wait, Roman Conyon?
5:43
No? No. That's not really- Nah. I mean, you could. Well, I guess- We've done it in the past. Yeah. Yeah. See, the thing here is that- They would probably be open... the ride was basically planned on Google. Yeah. Yeah.
5:57
By our own admission. You could do that. Everything, I mean- Right... so, you know. And Google is not very good lately, especially after- Of hourage...
6:03
during or before the pandemic of having hours of operation in any kind of-... semblance of what they really are Accuracy So- Yeah... you know.
6:13
But that worked out [laughs] in a, in its own beautiful way where, so we go to Zad's just 'cause it made a little more fiscal and, you know, spirit of the ride sense,
6:23
and [laughs] it was friends of La Isa and some others that the guy who bought, uh, La Cage a few years back- Is friends with them? Okay. Yeah. Oh, Big Gay Dave? Yes. Bingo. Exactly. [laughs] Yeah.
6:37
So he's like, well, they had, like, a, a promotion of some kind with beer last night, and they still were sitting on some. "Hey, come on over [laughs] and come to the basement and drink our beer."
6:49
[laughs] He'll help us drink our beer? Yeah. [laughs] Okay. "But bring your bikes inside on the dance floor." You know, it, I mean, it was perfect. That was cool. Yeah. There are some great pictures.
6:55
It was just like, "Yes, yes." And then you had to do a couple laps because ceremony. Because you have to. Yeah. When you have- It's certainly been on the ride in the past. Yeah. It was just cool. So pulled that one off.
7:05
Uh, proposed was South Shore Park, but that was way too damn long, so Puddler's Hall was much more approachable. Did that, hung out, came to the Poker Riot.
7:17
It- right before the pandemic, you know what was supposed to be at Puddler's Hall? Yeah. Letterkenny. Letterkenny. Mm-hmm. [laughs] It's like kind of- It's like, damn it to the damn pandemic.
7:29
If there's one thing I'm gonna be really bad about the pandemic is canceling all Letterkenny's great tour. There's probably other things, too, like people dying, but- Yeah... Letter fucking Kenny, man. That was a...
7:39
Puddler's Hall's a, a fun place to go, and it's- It is... it's, uh- An iconic bar in the- Second oldest in Milwaukee. Is it? Yes. According to their advertisement. [laughs] Exactly. And it- Like, what's the oldest?
7:51
Towner? Yeah. Really? Yeah. Yeah. Uh-huh. The oldest continuously operating, I think. Uptowner? Yeah. I would have guessed that. We'll get to the Uptowner later in the show, too, I think. [laughs] Oh, yeah.
8:02
It'll come up in conversation later. So yeah, um, so and then, uh, part of the ride was Poker Riot, but got there earlier than I would've wanted to get there. See Boogie and then back? Self- selfishly for [laughs]
8:15
to, for the riot, for what I wanted to see there. For the, for the rioting. Yeah, exactly. So stopped there, got some food across the street at the food truck court thing. What'd you get?
8:25
I got the lumpia from Cocina Filipa- Filipina, I think. I can't remember- Yeah... the name. Uh, just nice, good, greasy egg rolls- Nice... essentially. Nice And, [laughs] um, what... And Kim got some messy ass nachos,
8:42
and they were okay. I like messy ass nachos. And they were... Yeah, they were okay. Um, and then they, uh, then they were just kinda hemming and hawing about, you know...
8:50
I mean, 'cause that k- was kinda like the breakup point to it mentally for it a lot. So went down to the Palapa. That was the next stop. Sure enough, it was packed. Always packed there lately- Yeah...
9:03
especially on a nice 70 degree- Yeah... you know- I mean the-... Saturday afternoon... between Zito and Han and, uh, people, they were able to get in there. Uh, Pat was working, so was, uh, Loma. [laughs] O- Oma? Oma.
9:21
Do you know I, I just- Lopan... I recently- [laughs] I recently found out that Zito used to live in Australia. Ah. I had no idea. I'm sure you did. [laughs] So that was technically, oh, the end.
9:35
The one guy, um, hmm, Jay. Jay, the guy who, uh, [clicks tongue] yeah, like, run over by a- Oh, Jay... Yeah, Jay Labecki... with a semi and dragged him- Yeah, and dragged down the street. Wait, what? Yeah. Oh, yeah. Ooh.
9:49
Oh, that happened years and years ago. Yeah, yeah. Ooh. Because- Probably 20 plus years ago. But- Yeah You know, you know what his job is?
9:55
He's the guy that goes around and checks the gas pumps for seeing if they're accurate when they're putting gas in your car. I would love that job. Right? And then bust those assholes. Yeah, I know, like- [laughs]...
10:03
my, my tank doesn't hold 18 gallons. I- Can you get Jay over here, please? [laughs] I actually had that happen, and I called the guy out on it. I got...
10:10
I was on 76, and I'm like, "I just put 18 and a half g- roughly, I think it was 18 and a half gallons in my vehicle." I'm like, "I have an 18 gallon tank. Like, you guys are screwing people over."
10:20
You're filling your filler tube, man. Yeah. Uh, yeah. [laughs] That's their excuse. Right. Right? Bite me. No, but yeah, he's, he's the guy. No, but yeah. No. No, yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, no. But yeah.
10:29
But that was the end of the ride, and then, uh, he w- was parked over at Hollander, so I think- He went that way? Yeah, La Isa and, uh, and they, like, did the full circle of it, I guess. The full circle of life. Yeah.
10:44
So that's when you, you come back and met us up. Yeah, yeah. [laughs] Well- And some other people were gonna go back to Why Not To and then go over to Bill's house afterwards- Oh... and I was like, "Yeah, yeah, sure.
10:54
I'll be right behind you later"- Turned out-... which I was later, much later. Much...
10:59
[laughs] Well, well, so, so somewhere- And then I turned tail, went back to the Poker Riot where, and now we enter the story- Right, right... and there's a Tony and a Sven- Yeah, I think-... and a Sam in the shadows...
11:09
somewhat, somewhat simultaneously we had headed out, 'cause I waited till, like, 4:00, went over to Tony. Somehow Sam is riding a bike with his hoof in a big- Riding a wheelie, the asshole. In his, in his- [laughs]...
11:21
metal- Boot... that he's, whatever. Apparently he didn't hurt himself, so that's good. But we- I don't know... so we went down there and got there for the end of, uh, Sergeant Sauerkraut. Yeah.
11:34
Yeah, and when I peeled out, it was the start of Sergeant Sauerkraut. Oh, okay. So that was- Oh, so you only gone for a little bit. So you did, you didn't really miss that much. No, no.
11:41
I got a flavor of that and got back. And who did we get to see? The, the Milwaukee's Only Poker rap band? Well, so, okay- What is their name? Criminals? So because- Okay...
11:50
I did do a little, I wanted to do a little, like, checking out, 'cause I love all those bands and there's, like, a lot of cross-pollination in them. Mm-hmm.
11:59
Sergeant Sauerkraut and Dead Freddy are both from Chicago, and the Tony lookalike guy whose name is, like, I can't e- I have no idea how to pronounce it.
12:09
It's, he, I think he's Lithuanian or something, but it's, it's really a-... a, a long, uh, Gintas Beneviktas or something of that nature Gintas Beneviktas.
12:18
[laughs] So he's the drummer with the long, you know, hair, and he's in Sergeant Sauerkraut, and also Dead Freddy. Okay. Yeah, yeah. So those are Chicago. So Dead Freddy's been around since 1979. Shit, yeah. Wow.
12:28
A- and the guy, uh, so the main guy is Donatas Romanuk- I, again, I can't say the- Oh... I think... wow, wow... but he's the guy with the white mohawk. The white spikies, yeah, yeah.
12:38
And he was relating the fact that the only reason that Dead Freddy was there is because there's an accordion in the band. They're not really a polka band. They're really a punk rock band, but- Right. With an accordion.
12:48
Yeah, with an accordion, which they did do some ska and some kind of polka-ish stuff too. Sure. But yeah, it's just like... And then- That's funny...
12:57
yeah, November Criminals is the world's only non-ironic polka hip hop band. They were awesome. I love those guys so much. They were freaking awesome. They finally got the sound half- I was just like, okay.
13:11
[laughs] You got a stage, right? Normally you would put the sound guy where? Yeah, not on the side. Kind of in the center. Yeah. And then they have this garage that was kinda blocking half the sound.
13:20
I'm like, "How's this guy gonna mix this well?" Not well at all. [laughs] Well, yeah, it, it turns out you- not well at all.
13:26
But it, it, yeah, so they kind of, they got it going, and it was good enough 'cause I kinda know half those songs now, and like- Was it Sausage Fest? Is that the name of the song? Yeah.
13:38
[laughs] That's- Goddamn, that was funny... that's a hilarious song. So all the links to the bands are in the show notes if you wanna check 'em out. I, they're, they're worth... November Criminals is awesome.
13:48
And- They're [laughs] really fun... so they, I, I mean, and Evan, the guy, one of the guys, the, the accordion player in the band plays a Roland accordion with the- Not Roland... with, with the, uh,
14:00
with the, uh, this machine kills fascists, like, big thing on the side of it, is the guy that r- like runs the polka riot thing. Oh, he was great.
14:12
So they are also play- if they're gonna be in Milwaukee anytime in the next couple weeks, they're gonna be, I think, at Nomad- Yeah... at some point. I'm, I'm thinking, I think it's tied into their September Fest.
14:23
Yeah, it's like the 22nd maybe or something. It's a Friday. I did notice that. A- allow me to scroll on my screen. September 22nd, Nomad.
14:32
And then they're doing the WXRW benefit too, which may be at Uptowner, and I'm, I'm not positive where it is. But WXRW is our local Riverwest radio station. We've got WMSC, the greatest radio station in the world.
14:48
Hands down. But WXRW is a community station, super low power, and I don't know if it even gets out of Riverwest. I don't think so. I'm not sure. But it- they've got a pretty full slate of stuff, and it's very
14:59
eclectic, I would say is a good term for it. Is that a good word? Is Zab still running that? I, you know, I'm not a big, I don't know a lot- I think he is... about it. I just kinda know it's there.
15:08
And it's now, instead of just being an internet station, they now actually have a transmitter, and they have an antenna, and it, they're licensed to do low power. So that's two public radio stations. Then we have 88.9,
15:21
which is another- Heard of it... public radio station, right? By virtue of the fact that that used to be the s- the Milwaukee Public Schools ch- channel. That was their frequency.
15:31
And they still have their, like, meeting minutes on it or something every once in a while. You know, who funds that, do you know? I don't- Besides us... I don't know. Uh, Peter Buffett. Oh, well there you go.
15:41
Warren Buffett's son. Sure. He loves Milwaukee, and he started, he produced the initial funding- Oh, that's-... so I've heard, to start that radio station... yeah, that's awesome.
15:48
Well, he had a great recording studio right on, uh, Milwaukee Street or somewhere downtown. Uh, and then there's a, there's a fourth out in Delafield. My buddy Todd runs it.
15:58
I wish I knew what the call letters for it were, but it's another low power station. But he's kinda jacked up the, the wattage a little bit, so gets a little bit bigger coverage.
16:07
Every once in a while you can get kinda the, the skip or s- or something changes in the atmosphere and you can get it in Milwaukee, but- Nice... not very often. Oh. But that's four public radio stations in Milwaukee.
16:18
Okay. I, I completely flaked on, uh, [laughs] in between, uh, Puddlers and the polka riot, we had made a pit stop at Highbury because- Mm... Adrian- Oh. [laughs]...
16:32
was on the ride and on, needed to see what- He's gotta go to the Highbury. [sighs] Well, I guess. I don't know. I was, I, again, I was in full spectator mode as much as I possibly could be on this.
16:45
I don't know what, um, [laughs] Bill had his, uh, Bicycle Benefits. There's a sticker. You have it and you get a deal- Mm-hmm... with- Yeah, we've had, uh, Ian on the show before. Yeah.
16:58
Um, and there was a little, little kerfuffle [laughs] about whether the discount was being applied or what it was. I don't know. There was...
17:09
Now, this is where I really went into full spectator mode, 'cause I was like, I don't- Disappeared into the wall, did you? Yeah. I was like, "I don't really wanna know what is going on."
17:17
Everyone seems to be a little bit snippy and about something here. [laughs] But, um, however it was going, going to pass, Kenny was sitting there trying to talk to Joe, [laughs] the owner.
17:30
About this Joe- And apparently, uh, Joe, Joe Katz. [laughs] Yeah. And apparently [laughs] Joe just walked out to the bar, jumped in his car, and drove away, which I didn't really notice that.
17:40
[laughs] So I gu- And Adrian's just going like, "I've never seen anything like it before, Bill. You drove Joe Katz out of his own bar." [laughs] That is... See, now I- [laughs]...
17:56
now I'm not happy that I didn't go on that ride. [laughs] I mean, it was just like un- it was surreal just being, uh- For, like, three bucks? I don't know. Something. I don't know.
18:07
This, it, it was announced one beer stop, you know, just those, like, top of the hill, quick, one, two, three. And it was even quicker than that 'cause people were getting all pissy and shitty. Oh, man
18:17
Food was needed in people's tanks Ah, that'll happen I think that was kind of the deal on- We had-... a lot of that We, we had food. We went to this place, you might have heard of it, it's called Con Hidos. Oh, yes. Yes.
18:28
We were like one stop behind in terms of getting fed- Well, golly, that Con Hidos-... mentally... yeah It, it hit the spot, man. Yeah. It really hit the spot.
18:34
That was definitely- Matter of fact, Molly thanked me for eating. [laughs] Ah. So I came home and she's like, "You're not as drunk as you usually are." I'm like, "Con Hidos."
18:41
[laughs] She's like, "Good, [laughs] good call."
18:44
Yeah, we made, [bird cawing] yeah, abso- we stopped at Sabbatic trying to find Tony's keys from a couple weeks ago Yeah, [laughs] and I ran over to Dirty Ron's and fed my machine. [laughs] Yeah.
18:51
[laughs] I, I need to buy a new lock. One, one cheeseburger, please. One cheeseburger, please, is all the fuel I need for the next leg. [laughs] I need to buy a new lock. Oh, yeah, right. I'm, I'm locked officially now.
19:02
Well, I'll keep my eye- now that I'm moving stuff again, I'll keep it, uh- Damn it, Bobby... I'll keep it in mind. Needs new grips too- Oh... now that we're shopping. All right.
19:09
So you find those in a box, I'll take those too. Well, we got boxes. Okay. Got a lot of stuff in boxes. We have miles- Since-... and miles of fabric Well, since we've moved, like, three times- Right...
19:17
the boxes might not necessarily have in them what they were originally labeled as. 'Cause the first move I'm like, "Everything is completely labeled, like, perfectly, so we know what's in there."
19:28
And then it was pretty good to the second one, and the third one, I'm like, "We gotta get outta here- Fuck it... because- Fuck it, throw everything in a box... right, because of the, the burglary business.
19:35
So I don't have any idea what's in any box or where anything is. So something like if our website sells something, I have to go, "Well, it's in one of these boxes."
19:45
[laughs] I lucked out the other day, I'm like, open it up, I'm like, "Oh, there it is," the first box. And then otherwise it's been- 10 boxes... 20 boxes- Yeah... 20 whatever, trying to find what I'm trying to find and
19:55
I considered just turning this stupid website off for a little bit, but we have a bunch of bikes on the front page that I would really, really, really like to get down the road before we have to move them at the end [laughs] of the month.
20:09
Take a look at that website, folks, everydaycycles.com, and see if any of those bikes, and the ones I'll be adding subsequently here in hopefully a day or two, uh, uh, pique your fancy. Uh, it's gonna get cold out.
20:20
Fat bikes are gonna be in short supply, except for really expensive ones, I've noticed. There's a lot of really cool titanium ones out there. There's a lot of really cool custom ones out there.
20:30
But trying to find something that is sort of, like, consumer or what- if that's the right word, consumer level or enthusiast level, not- Yeah, not elitist... like, not elitist level. Um- Like me, and you. Yeah. And you.
20:45
Well, I had to make the decision, am, am I gonna sell the Wyatt or am I gonna sell the Chumba? And then Steven's like, "That Chumba is sick." It is. And I'm like- Yeah...
20:55
and I rode the, I was riding the Wyatt around, and it, it is a large bike. Even though it fits me well, it just, it's big. The, the smoke, smoked frame one or the other one? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, that's a gorgeous bike.
21:05
That one's not on the f- site yet because- That's a, that's a gorgeous bike... I haven't decided I want to part with it yet, but I will decide. That- DT350 hubs, uh- That Chumba's expensive though, man. Yeah.
21:15
It's, well, actually, the, I think, yeah. It's, it's not outfitted as ridiculously as I would like to make it. It doesn't have Onyx Racing hubs, for instance, which I'd love to have on there. Yes.
21:25
Hey, speaking of hubs, hey, that, that dove tail- that dove tails right into a hub Dove, doves, hubs... uh, right into a thing. [glass clinking] Oh, we could do that too. Oh, we could do that too. Hold on.
21:33
I'll do the hubs after the beer, 'cause it's the top of the hill. This is good. I don't know. I just, [laughs] it just seemed like [laughs] there was- This is-... there was some dead bell space.
21:42
That was a, uh, this is a, uh, this is from Amorphic, 'cause they're right next door. We're not in the same building anymore, but they are still like 100 feet away. [laughs] Uh, this is a- Is that...
21:51
this is a DDH Fluffy Logic, which they make a lot of with that name, but they're, a lot of them are different. This is- But this one's the experimental YQH 1380. Or 20, in this case. Eh.
22:03
It's just graphically- Oh, it's a 20. Pardon me... it's a 20, so it's, it's a, it's an experimental Ailani hop. But- It's good...
22:11
one of the things that got me about it was it's only 6.3%, and I've been trying to tuck back on the- Me too... on the ABV, 'cause the- Me too... the average brain volume is getting, like, a little too full sometimes.
22:23
So I deci- I was gonna try and find, like, a, a lager or something, and I'm like, "Nah, I'm still an IPA guy. I'm, whatever. Oh, 6.3, I'll go for that." Flavors of citrus, passionfruit, and papaya.
22:37
The very first- Taste it... taste of it, I was like, "Wow." Yeah. Fruity. It is [sighs]. It's like a symphony in my mouth.
22:45
[laughs] But JK, what do you, would- Make it, make it be [coughs] You got some sarsaparilly over there? I got, I got my, uh, sarsaparilla. That goddamn old sarsaparilly. Renaissance fair sarsaparilla. Mm.
22:54
Did you go to the ren fair? I did, but I didn't get this from there. Did you go in- I got this from the Dells from the sweets shop... did you go in costume to the ren fair? No. No, no. No.
23:05
But then you're not doing the full ren fair experience. I had a cowboy hat on. [laughs] There's no cowboys- I, I-... in the Renaissance, son. You got it wrong... I wear horns. I wear horns...
23:15
people, there are like Trekkies or Trekkers or whatever you want to call them. Is that- I wear, I wear horns. People ask me where I bought them. From Wayne? Uh, Wayne and Brian, yeah. Oh, I don't have horns.
23:24
Can you get some horns? Yeah. Get us some horns. Yeah. I'll put them on my helm. Uh, yeah, we can get those. Right on. Okay, so back to the hub thing, now that we talked about the beer thing. Horns, horns and beers.
23:34
Uh, Industry9, your f- your, your hub, wonderful hub- They're-... hub people... pretty incredible... now have fat bikes hub, hub, fat bikes hubs, fat bike hubs back in stock.
23:44
The, okay, so they have 135, which was, like, the original- Fat bike hub... fat bike front, um, symmetrical of course, not offset. Easy. But then they have a 142. I didn't even know that was a thing.
23:56
Apparently there's a 142 that you can make a fat bike f- fork. It's probably a downhill fork, I would imagine. And a 150, which are your, most of your fat bike forks now. Right. As well as 197 and 177 rear.
24:09
So if you want some wheels for your fancy-ass bike, because they're fancy-ass wheels- Fancy... Industry9 is your huckleberry at this point. Yep. Get out your wallet. Get out your wallet. [sighs] They ain't cheap.
24:21
Dang old- But they're gorgeous. Yeah Yeah. Did I say we have to send- Yeah... a few bikes down the road? Yeah. We, we should- Yeah... send a few bikes down the road. Yeah.
24:30
Usually- Can we, uh, change subject a little bit and say goodbye to Circle A? We could. Yes. We may have mentioned it in the past, but it's worth mentioning again because- They're doing a 72-hour
24:44
Velvet Underground, like, three-day event- Yeah, the-... in October... uh, yeah. M- that's, yeah, the l- final send-off. Fi- the final send-off Yeah... it's my ani- my wedding anniversary.
24:54
I've asked Molly if we can- [laughs] Like, what a way to end our, you know, have a great wedding anniversary and send off Circle A. Great little pub. So you do know the physical size of that place, right?
25:03
Probably like eight people. Oh, yeah, it's amazing. The more people that we tell- I- shh... the less room for us. Yeah. Don't show up. It's 23 feet by 26 feet. That's how big it is. [laughs] It is small.
25:15
And that includes the bar. Yes, that includes the area behind the bar. That's the entirety of the ro- it's like a very large living room- [coughs]... that we have seen a lot of really good bands in.
25:26
[laughs] Yeah, I ended up saw Dick Satan Trio farewell show. I missed that show. Their farewell show. Oh, I'm so mad. So I got to see a really good show. There's no way Russell's gonna end that.
25:37
He's going to have a farewell, farewell, farewell, farewell tour. Well, just like Kiss. Just like Kiss. I think Russell looks a lot like Kiss. [laughs] I, yeah, I would love to see Vortice there one more time. Oh.
25:52
Bring, bring me my Vortice. [laughs] But, uh, yeah, sometime in October. I don't know the exact date, but- First weekend, apparently... yeah, it's definitely...
26:00
So, it- I don't know if somebody's gonna take the mantle up or they can't because it's, the neighborhood is not gonna let them or whatever, but it is, it, it's an iconic club that has- Yeah... you know?
26:11
I'm hoping somebody just, like, you know- They have to allow it to happen... they're just putting it down, let it sit for a l- a year maybe [laughs] or something. Or so long. I mean, it was open so sporadically anyway.
26:23
It just, you, they c- they have to be done by 10:00, right? Or 10:30? Is it that early? Yeah, it's e- it's like 8:00 s- show, 10:30 done pretty much.
26:32
And they'll push it if it's somebody that really can support it, but- In my neighborhood, if someone's gonna complain after 11:00, I'm gonna have to go up wards with them.
26:41
[laughs] Go a- go a- I'm having- 'Cause I, I live three doors down from, uh, Timbuk2. That's a terrible band. Um, three doors down, yeah, they are. Mm-hmm.
26:50
Um, I live three doors down from Timbuk2, and they play until about midnight, and I am totally fine with that. What about Mad Planet? That's even closer. They... Well, it, that's, it, depending on the weekday, yes.
27:01
Like, Mad Planet, if they have a good show, will overpower it, but generally speaking, Timbuk2 has got it going on. That's nice. And it's all good. I'm like, I, I love it. I mean- Yeah...
27:09
yeah, it's Saturday night, and it's midnight. Big fucking deal. Well, well they kind of face you, whereas Mad Planet- Yeah... has their back to you.
27:15
It's like being at Summerfest and two different stages are- Right, right... doing the same thing. I still love them both. Uh, what else I have on here? Oh, Tony's gotta see this thing. There's, I, it's a YouTube link.
27:26
It's in the show notes. It is a VW Transporter, Transporter? Transporter. Transformer. Transport- porter. Transporter TDI that has been made- Oh... into a camper/bike van. Oy. It's European. Of course it is.
27:40
It's right-hand drive. Oh. Yeah, but still, the video is really cool. If I could get one of those, I would actually think about replacing s- the Silver Surfer lovely whatever I can call my van. Shh, he's outside. Don't.
27:54
Shh, stop talking. Y- y- your van's a dude? Is it? All my cars are chicks. Really? Always. Huh. Oh, no. Always. Guess I never really thought about gender. My first one, Charlotte, sometimes. That one's they.
28:09
There you go. Yeah. I go with they. Yeah, I don't know. Uh, but you should watch the, it, the link is in the show notes, Tony. You can check it out. I will definitely check that out. Ch- ch- check it.
28:18
Also worth noting that today, during the recording day, it's Neil Peart's birthday. [gasps] Dee dee dee dee. If he were to have been- You know he's g-... alive still. Oh. You know he's gonna do that thing.
28:28
Dee dee dee brr. Dee dee dee brr. [laughs] Oh, I, that'll be in the show notes. I'll find that clip of all those going nuts. He, does he have the largest drum set ever, or is he like... It's right up there.
28:40
It's up there. Next to the guys that, remember that guy that Sean had playing next door? Yes. Who had the hugest drum set and sounded absolutely terrible. And who had never played with a live human being before.
28:51
Oh, is that what it was? Yeah, he played- Well, he was terrible... he played to YouTube videos, and he was good at mimicking. He was lousy at playing with a band. He was terrible. Yeah.
28:59
He could, he, you put him on, and he's playing with whomever on the, the YouTube, and he's good. Follows that guy.
29:05
But you put him in there, and you throw a little loop in the thing, and he's like, "What the hell just happened?" You're like, "You're the guy- He's playing music... you're the guy setting the beat, dude. Okay?"
29:15
Yeah, whatever. That'll happen. Um, I gue- I don't know. What... Oh, yeah, I, this is worth noting, and I'll show you guys this photo, and it will be in the show notes. Um, Stevil Kenevil from All Hail the Black Market.
29:27
Yeah. He does a, I think he does stuff on Tuesdays and Saturdays or something.
29:31
Tuesdays usually a longer post, and he had an artist that he liked, and he sent this artist a concept for a wizard staff and a van, and, and, and, uh, bikes and stuff. And he said, "Here's my concept.
29:46
Run with it," and the guy ran with it. And you gotta see it, 'cause it's, like, probably the best thing I've ever seen. Wow. Is that in the show notes? Next to even, like, a, you know, maybe a Die Kreuzen album cover.
29:58
It's, it's just that badass. Nice, nice. It has a wizard staff. Yes, I will have the photo in the show notes. Well, folks, thanks again for spending your hard-earned half hour with us.
30:11
Go down to Bayview Bashin' tomorrow. Oh, yeah. Olivia Jean. Olivia Jean. Olivia Jean, man. Woo. Whoa. Is it already the- If it's, if it's-... it's already the 16th tomorrow? [laughs] Well, this, this month is half over.
30:23
Get the hell outta here. You know what is insane? I, uh, just ha- I mean, I was looking at something else about Olivia Jean, and it's like n- next month she's going on a freaking tour with The Hives.
30:34
Goddammit, I wanna go. I, uh, I- I wanna see The Hives... I, I will say I was listening- [laughs] I mean, they're in Chicago, I guess. It's good...
30:40
I, I was listening to Olivia Jean today as I was driving at 7:15 in the morning down Holton Avenue to, only to be passed by someone in a Ford Edge driving in oncoming traffic.
30:54
Where the fuck are you have to be at 7:15 in the morning- Wicked... that you have to drive like a douche? That's, it's just nonstop. I saw him in my rear view mirror. I'm like, "He's going around me."
31:05
I'm starting- Sure enough... I actually saw somebody do the slalom on the nice, new, pretty protected bike lanes on, uh, on North. Oh, we forgot to talk about that. Those protected bike lanes are ridonculous.
31:16
We saw a person take one out this morning on the way back from Danny's appointment. Well, it's a learning curve that's unyielding on some of them, which is good. Good. Damn it.
31:25
Although Molly did admit the planters are really low, and you may not see them until it's too late. Sure. And I say... Oh, sorry. That's fine. Well- Yeah... I might start a new pod- You'll see them next time...
31:35
podcast called The Angry Curmudgeon or something, because I, every day there's something that just like- [laughs]... you gotta be kidding me. Right. All right, everybody. Thank you for listening.
31:44
We'll, we'll do this again next week at some point.
31:49
