- 0:01Speaker 1: Hey, discos, need a little more Disgraceland in your life,
- 0:05Speaker 1: just to touch to get you through. Yeah me too.
- 0:08Speaker 1: This is the podcast that comes after the podcast. Welcome
- 0:12Speaker 1: to Disgraceland, the after Party. Welcome to the Disgraceland bonus episode,
- 0:30Speaker 1: a little thing we like to call the after party.
- 0:33Speaker 1: This is the show after the show, the party after
- 0:35Speaker 1: the party, the bridge to get you from one full
- 0:37Speaker 1: episode of Disgraceland to the other. The backyard, to dig
- 0:40Speaker 1: into the dirt, our mission to uncover the truth, to
- 0:43Speaker 1: confront the myth, to reclaim the story. On this bonus episode,
- 0:47Speaker 1: we're talking about music that the Incell movement loves. What
- 0:50Speaker 1: we're digging into the greatest rock and roll records of
- 0:52Speaker 1: all time. Thanks to our new episode on ACDC rewinding
- 0:56Speaker 1: back to You two and the Murder of Rebecca Schaeffer.
- 0:59Speaker 1: Previewing next week's new episode on Fish, when we get
- 1:02Speaker 1: into your voicemails, text, dms, and as always, a whole
- 1:05Speaker 1: lot of Rosie. This is the podcast for the musically obsessed,
- 1:08Speaker 1: the outsiders, the independent thinkers who know that the best
- 1:11Speaker 1: history is the history that gets buried. Disgrace Lams where
- 1:14Speaker 1: I tell the stories they didn't want told the kind
- 1:16Speaker 1: he'll end up telling someone else. All right, discos, let's
- 1:19Speaker 1: get into it. In nineteen eighty five, they blamed ACDC
- 1:33Speaker 1: for inspiring serial killer Richard Ramirez. In nineteen eighty nine,
- 1:38Speaker 1: actress Rebecca Schaeffer's murderer Robert John Bardo, claimed you too
- 1:42Speaker 1: compelled him to kill. In twenty eighteen, Scott Barelli walked
- 1:46Speaker 1: into a Florida yoga studio and shot and killed two women,
- 1:50Speaker 1: wounding several others before taking his own life. Music has
- 1:54Speaker 1: always been an easy scapegoat, but it's never the songs.
- 1:58Speaker 1: It's always who the killers already were. Scotparelli was an INCEL,
- 2:05Speaker 1: part of a group of involuntarily celibate men, young aggrieved
- 2:10Speaker 1: dudes who believe the women who reject them and the
- 2:13Speaker 1: more traditionally masculine men who outshine them exist to keep
- 2:17Speaker 1: them down. This is also a group whose members have
- 2:21Speaker 1: killed before and will kill again, and it's a group
- 2:25Speaker 1: that loves music. Jazzy Lupido nine to A eight M
- 2:30Speaker 1: three Me's scissor with one C and a Z. These
- 2:34Speaker 1: are the online user names for the creators of Spotify.
- 2:37Speaker 1: Inceel playlists with titles like Inceell Virgin loser Core, Chronically Online, Autistic,
- 2:43Speaker 1: four Chan, Suicidal and Real Older Brother Niche Weird Kid,
- 2:48Speaker 1: Inceell in the Underground loser Core. If there's one theme
- 2:53Speaker 1: that ties the songs on these playlists together, it's isolation.
- 2:59Speaker 1: Songs like Just by Radiohead Scott Pilgrim versus the World
- 3:04Speaker 1: Ruined a Whole Generation of Women by Negative XP in
- 3:07Speaker 1: the Aeroplane by the Sea by Neutral Milk Hotel, and
- 3:11Speaker 1: an excellent and batshit crazy cover of Dion's nineteen fifty
- 3:15Speaker 1: nine hit Teenager in Love by bird Bath. The music
- 3:19Speaker 1: is angsty and irreverent and lives on the nerdier side
- 3:23Speaker 1: of the street. More Rivers Cuomo and less Kirk Cobaine
- 3:27Speaker 1: and lots and lots of Marssey. The Smiths occupy a
- 3:31Speaker 1: special place in Inceell music playlist culture. There are entire
- 3:35Speaker 1: in Cell playlists dedicated to tunes penned by Stephen Patrick,
- 3:38Speaker 1: Morrissey and Johnny Marr, and it makes sense few bands
- 3:42Speaker 1: in the last fifty years have better captured despair in alienation,
- 3:46Speaker 1: and not to mention the fact that Marssey for much
- 3:49Speaker 1: of his career publicly identified as celibate. When Incell Scott
- 3:54Speaker 1: Barelli killed two women and injured five others before taking
- 3:58Speaker 1: his own life into tallahow Hot yoga studio. He did
- 4:02Speaker 1: so after posting his own music online angry, sneering, hostile songs,
- 4:09Speaker 1: not metal, not hardcore rap, but instead lo fi rejection rock,
- 4:15Speaker 1: rage turned inward, not dissimilar from Radiohead or The Smiths,
- 4:19Speaker 1: or well most of the music populating the in cell
- 4:22Speaker 1: playlist online universe. I'm not suggesting music played a part
- 4:26Speaker 1: in Scott Barelli's motivation, nor am I blaming musicians for
- 4:30Speaker 1: inspiring in cells to murder, but it's only a matter
- 4:33Speaker 1: of time before someone does. The twenty eighteen Toronto van attack,
- 4:37Speaker 1: where a self described inceell murdered eleven in an effort
- 4:42Speaker 1: to incite a so called in cell rebellion. The twenty
- 4:46Speaker 1: fourteen Isla Vista killings, when a twenty two year old
- 4:48Speaker 1: man murdered six and injured fourteen others in an attempt
- 4:51Speaker 1: to punish women who rejected him and the sexually active
- 4:55Speaker 1: men he believed humiliated him. These are just two of
- 4:59Speaker 1: what are numerous examples of in cell killings. Eventually, there
- 5:04Speaker 1: will be more murder committed by young men who are
- 5:08Speaker 1: chronically online, detached from reality, and obsessing over music. Algorithms
- 5:14Speaker 1: now feed grievance faster than ever. Music, like politics and religion,
- 5:19Speaker 1: is just another on ramp for the aggrieved. For those
- 5:22Speaker 1: whom Paul Schrader and Thomas Wolfe once called God's Lonely Man,
- 5:27Speaker 1: it turns out the modern version of God's Lonely Man
- 5:31Speaker 1: has a pretty good taste in music, just like Richard Ramirez,
- 5:35Speaker 1: who envisioned himself as the killer in ac DC's Night Prowler,
- 5:39Speaker 1: and Robert John Bardow, who was obsessed with U two's exit.
- 5:44Speaker 1: But music isn't the murder weapon. Music is the mirror.
- 5:50Speaker 1: Acdc's Night Prowler wasn't a command. When Bond Scott whispered
- 5:54Speaker 1: about slipping into someone's room after dark, he was setting
- 5:58Speaker 1: fictional pulp horror lyrics over a menacing beat. Richard Ramirez
- 6:03Speaker 1: didn't hear instructions on how to kill. He felt recognition
- 6:08Speaker 1: God's Lonely Man, felt seen U two's exit did the
- 6:13Speaker 1: same for Robert John Bardo. Bono wrote, the tune is
- 6:16Speaker 1: a character study of a man undone by violence and
- 6:19Speaker 1: faith the spiritual collapse. But to Bardo, a mentally ill
- 6:23Speaker 1: man obsessed with fame. All he heard was a soundtrack
- 6:26Speaker 1: to his own delusion. The same dynamics at play with
- 6:29Speaker 1: modern inceell music. These playlists don't inspire violence, they reflect it.
- 6:36Speaker 1: They echo the delusions of the men obsessing over them.
- 6:40Speaker 1: The music isn't radicalizing them, it's validating their despair. Again,
- 6:45Speaker 1: the music is the mirror, not the weapon. The problems
- 6:49Speaker 1: consuming the in cell community go much deeper than music.
- 6:53Speaker 1: These are young men raised online, coddled and medicated as
- 6:57Speaker 1: children brought up in low to no state social environments,
- 7:01Speaker 1: and who are helplessly unequipped to function in the real world.
- 7:05Speaker 1: Outcasts as alienated as the musicians whose songs fill their playlists.
- 7:10Speaker 1: It's only a matter of time before they kill again.
- 7:13Speaker 1: And when they do, people will eventually point to in
- 7:17Speaker 1: cell music as a scapegoat and smash the mirror instead
- 7:21Speaker 1: of looking into what it shows us, and that will
- 7:24Speaker 1: be a disgrace. I'll be back after this with your calls, texts,
- 7:28Speaker 1: voicemails and more. All right, we are back, and speaking
- 7:54Speaker 1: of the question about music inspiring death and destruction, We're
- 7:59Speaker 1: going to set ourselves away from the dark corners of
- 8:02Speaker 1: the incell Internet and to the Philippines for a little
- 8:06Speaker 1: peeling back of the onion of the my Way killings.
- 8:10Speaker 1: These are the murders inspired by Frank Sinatra's my Way tune.
- 8:13Speaker 1: You know that makes sense. This might be the weirdest
- 8:17Speaker 1: social phenomenon that I've ever heard of. This is the
- 8:20Speaker 1: thing where numerous people in the Philippines were killed in
- 8:24Speaker 1: connection to their performance of this song in karaoke. Bars
- 8:29Speaker 1: Zeth and I knew very little about this until recently,
- 8:31Speaker 1: and we're going to unpack this wild story in today's
- 8:35Speaker 1: exclusive portion of this here After party, which you can
- 8:38Speaker 1: hear by becoming an all access member of Disgraceland. For
- 8:41Speaker 1: just five bucks a month. You get additional exclusive content
- 8:45Speaker 1: like this ad, free listening, and more. Go to disgrace
- 8:47Speaker 1: slaandpod dot com to sign up before prices go up
- 8:50Speaker 1: at the end of this month. All right, So I
- 8:53Speaker 1: landed on this inceel playlist topic earlier because this week
- 8:57Speaker 1: in Disgraceland, we launched our ACDC par Our two episode
- 9:00Speaker 1: along with rewinding our part one story, and that story
- 9:03Speaker 1: deals with the band being blamed for inspiring Richard Ramirez
- 9:07Speaker 1: the serial killer, and our rewind episode this week is
- 9:11Speaker 1: on you two, and with that episode we have more
- 9:14Speaker 1: killer inspiration with Robert John Bardo and the Rebecca Schaefer Murder.
- 9:18Speaker 1: That you two episode will be available in tomorrow's rewind
- 9:22Speaker 1: spot coming up right after this episode. Lots of music
- 9:25Speaker 1: this week, supposedly inspiring murder. But I'm done talking about that, okay.
- 9:30Speaker 1: I want to talk about a theme that we hit
- 9:32Speaker 1: on in our new episode, our new ACDC episode this week,
- 9:36Speaker 1: Great rock and roll records, the greatest rock and roll records.
- 9:41Speaker 1: This question was prompted, of course, because acdc's album Back
- 9:44Speaker 1: in Black was, for a minute there the greatest selling
- 9:48Speaker 1: album of all time, not just the greatest selling rock
- 9:51Speaker 1: record of all time, the greatest selling album of all time.
- 9:55Speaker 1: A couple of years later, Michael Jackson's Thriller came along
- 9:59Speaker 1: and topped it, but still Back in Black still sitting
- 10:02Speaker 1: there in the number two spot. So that prompted our question,
- 10:06Speaker 1: what's the greatest rock and roll record of all time?
- 10:09Speaker 1: We're gonna hear your answers here, and I gotta gotta
- 10:14Speaker 1: gotta say, pretty surprised by by the consensus from you guys,
- 10:18Speaker 1: semi consensus from you guys on this topic. I'm gonna
- 10:23Speaker 1: give you my answer after we hear from you, guys,
- 10:27Speaker 1: vastly different from where you're coming from. Well, let's without
- 10:30Speaker 1: further ado, let's check out Junior in the seven to
- 10:33Speaker 1: one to four.
- 10:34Speaker 2: Hey, Jake, this is Junior from the seven to one
- 10:36Speaker 2: four And I believe, and this is just me the
- 10:41Speaker 2: greatest rock album of all time is David Bowie Ziggy,
- 10:45Speaker 2: Stardust and the Spiders from Mars. It's like a visual
- 10:49Speaker 2: for your brain, just perfectly constructed, in a perfect, perfect
- 10:55Speaker 2: story of the fallen Rocks has rock and roll, it
- 11:00Speaker 2: has your power ballads, it has your tragic end and
- 11:05Speaker 2: chift can be played over and over and I could
- 11:09Speaker 2: never get tired of it. Well, thank you for what
- 11:12Speaker 2: you're doing. You are freaking awesome, greatest storyteller ever. I
- 11:17Speaker 2: have a good one, Jake, talk to you later.
- 11:19Speaker 1: Junior. Thanks for the call. I love the Ziggy Startist
- 11:22Speaker 1: album and I love this answer. I love it. I
- 11:24Speaker 1: get the visual component here, the little theater of the
- 11:27Speaker 1: mind that's going on, the theatrics, I should say, the narrative,
- 11:31Speaker 1: all of it. It's tremendous storytelling in this record. There's ballads,
- 11:37Speaker 1: it's a super dynamic sounding album. I love this choice.
- 11:40Speaker 1: I wouldn't have thought of this on my own. It's
- 11:43Speaker 1: not my choice, but I fully understand Jr. Why you're
- 11:47Speaker 1: picking this, and you have some company. Let's hear what
- 11:50Speaker 1: the nine to one success to say.
- 11:52Speaker 3: Hi, Jake, this is mister Taylor from Raleigh, North Carolina
- 11:56Speaker 3: calling to answer the question from last week great album
- 12:00Speaker 3: of all time? No skips? And this is a tough
- 12:03Speaker 3: one in its simplicity, as you said. You know, as
- 12:06Speaker 3: a kid grown up in the late eighties and nineties,
- 12:10Speaker 3: born to boomer parents who loved music. But when I
- 12:14Speaker 3: came into this world, they gave me this sense that
- 12:16Speaker 3: all of it had been decided that the Beatles were
- 12:20Speaker 3: the greatest band of all time, and there was no
- 12:22Speaker 3: discussion about it, that all the greatest music had already
- 12:25Speaker 3: been made. So as a kid discovering music myself, I
- 12:28Speaker 3: kind of took offense to this idea and it took
- 12:30Speaker 3: me a long time to come around to it. You know,
- 12:32Speaker 3: It's like kids these days being told that Michael Jordan
- 12:35Speaker 3: is the greatest basketball player of all time. I get
- 12:37Speaker 3: the pushback. I mean, obviously they're wrong, Mjay's the man.
- 12:41Speaker 3: But when I was coming up as a kid, it
- 12:43Speaker 3: took me a long time to get to some of
- 12:44Speaker 3: these great albums. But when I got into my twenties,
- 12:47Speaker 3: I went back with fresh eyes and ears, and I
- 12:49Speaker 3: listened to some of them, and I came to the
- 12:51Speaker 3: conclusion that David Bowie's Ziggy Stardust is probably, if not
- 12:56Speaker 3: the greatest start to finish album of all time. I mean,
- 13:01Speaker 3: there are no skips. It is a concept album, but
- 13:04Speaker 3: every single song is an absolute banger. It's starting with
- 13:09Speaker 3: five years obviously, moon Age, day Dreams, Ziggy start Us,
- 13:13Speaker 3: rock and roll Suicide. The album starts and finishes in
- 13:17Speaker 3: the same way with absolute searing rock. Nick Ronson's guitar
- 13:22Speaker 3: is undeniable. David Bowie is in his element, the greatest
- 13:26Speaker 3: album he's ever made, the greatest character he's ever pervaded,
- 13:30Speaker 3: and it is, in my opinion, the greatest album from
- 13:33Speaker 3: start to finish, no skips, that has ever been recorded.
- 13:36Speaker 3: That's my piece. Thanks a lot, Rocker Roller, All.
- 13:39Speaker 1: Right, before I get into your answer nine one six,
- 13:40Speaker 1: I totally relate to the offense you take at the Hey,
- 13:44Speaker 1: everything's been figured out for you, man, don't worry about it.
- 13:47Speaker 1: We already decided what the greatest records are basically every
- 13:51Speaker 1: fucking music documentary pre nineteen ninety nine about the history
- 13:57Speaker 1: of music or you know, the history of social culture
- 14:00Speaker 1: in America. Anyhow, I love that we have another entry
- 14:03Speaker 1: here for Ziggy start Us coming from the nine to
- 14:05Speaker 1: one six. It's fantastic and this album strikes a chord. Clearly.
- 14:10Speaker 1: You mentioned that it's a concept album. It transcends the
- 14:13Speaker 1: concept album. I think it's more it's just because the
- 14:16Speaker 1: song's on it. I don't think a Ziggy as a
- 14:17Speaker 1: concept album. I know that sounds crazy. It's it's clearly
- 14:21Speaker 1: defined as such, and but it just has such great
- 14:27Speaker 1: single song bangers on it that are that are undeniable,
- 14:31Speaker 1: that can be heard anywhere. You mentioned a bunch of
- 14:33Speaker 1: Them'm not gonna belabor it, but just fantastic. And oh,
- 14:36Speaker 1: by the way, yes, Michael Jordan is the greatest of
- 14:38Speaker 1: all time. They got that one right. All right, let's
- 14:41Speaker 1: check out the on this topic. More on this topic,
- 14:44Speaker 1: let's go to the text machine, and I want to
- 14:48Speaker 1: read this text from the four to seven zero Dave
- 14:51Speaker 1: from Georgia. Dave. Dave wants to go ahead and just
- 14:54Speaker 1: let us know that he's he's nominating tools Eenema, and
- 14:57Speaker 1: I can't argue with you. I mean I could, but
- 14:59Speaker 1: I won't.
- 15:00Speaker 3: Uh.
- 15:01Speaker 1: I get it, I get it. You're gonna listen to
- 15:03Speaker 1: this forever. That's what you're telling us, Dave, And you
- 15:05Speaker 1: have every right too. And it's an awesome record. I
- 15:08Speaker 1: don't quite think that it is, uh oh, what you know?
- 15:12Speaker 1: Who am I to say? A lot of people love Tool.
- 15:14Speaker 1: I overlook the Tool fans. I shouldn't. You guys are legion.
- 15:18Speaker 1: We talked about this before, particularly around the gender splits
- 15:22Speaker 1: in Tool fandom, and I heard loud and clear from
- 15:26Speaker 1: you guys, So Dave, I appreciate this. Four to seven Oh,
- 15:28Speaker 1: Dave is nominating tools Enema as the greatest rock record.
- 15:32Speaker 1: Let's check out for something different here the three to
- 15:36Speaker 1: one Oh, who writes in the one rock album. If
- 15:38Speaker 1: I could only ever listen to one album again, says
- 15:42Speaker 1: the three one oh, would be Rolling Stone Sticky Fingers,
- 15:46Speaker 1: best album by one of the best bands, that defines
- 15:49Speaker 1: rock and is my go to when I can't select
- 15:51Speaker 1: through all the many records on the shelves, So in
- 15:54Speaker 1: some ways already is my one record to rule them all.
- 15:57Speaker 1: That's from Joe and the three to one, Oh Joe,
- 15:59Speaker 1: I hear you. It's a great one. It's my I
- 16:02Speaker 1: guess it's my second favorite Stones album, uh, Exile being
- 16:07Speaker 1: my first Exile being. You know, there's a handful of
- 16:10Speaker 1: double albums in the history of rock and roll that
- 16:12Speaker 1: are truly great, and Exile to me is one, if
- 16:16Speaker 1: not the greatest. I don't know. I think I like
- 16:19Speaker 1: it more than the White Album I do, I definitely do,
- 16:22Speaker 1: but it's not my favorite rock record. We'll get to
- 16:24Speaker 1: that in a minute. Seven to two four Rights saying, Hey, Jake,
- 16:26Speaker 1: it's Anthony and as I listen at my job as
- 16:28Speaker 1: an insurance accountant to get through the day, you asked
- 16:31Speaker 1: for the best no skip album, and if I had
- 16:33Speaker 1: to say one for my generation, I'm thirty three, I'd
- 16:36Speaker 1: pick American Idiot, genuinely solid start to finish. That's the
- 16:40Speaker 1: green day album American Idiot from the seven two four
- 16:43Speaker 1: Anthony and the seven two four, who goes on to say, though,
- 16:46Speaker 1: my personal favorite no skip that probably won't count as
- 16:49Speaker 1: Alison Chains Jar of Flies EP, You're right, doesn't count's
- 16:54Speaker 1: an EP. It's definitely no skip though, love it. It's
- 16:57Speaker 1: my favorite. Alison Chains too by the way, Uh, good
- 17:00Speaker 1: health to you in yours and later days from the
- 17:02Speaker 1: seven two four appreciate you seven to two four. Before
- 17:05Speaker 1: we move on from this topic, my favorite rock and
- 17:07Speaker 1: roll album is not acdc's Back in Black, but it
- 17:11Speaker 1: is an ACDC album, and I mention it in I
- 17:13Speaker 1: think both are ACDC episodes. It's Poweradge. It's just incredible
- 17:19Speaker 1: for an ACDC album. It's pretty dynamic for a rock
- 17:22Speaker 1: and roll record, not that dynamic. It kind of delivers
- 17:25Speaker 1: over and over again on the same vibe all throughout.
- 17:27Speaker 1: And that is just a dirty ass rock and roll
- 17:29Speaker 1: band that I imagine would just just destroy your night
- 17:34Speaker 1: in the best possible way, where you to just stumble
- 17:37Speaker 1: upon them playing those tunes in a little bar back
- 17:39Speaker 1: in the nineteen seventies. I can't get enough of this album.
- 17:44Speaker 1: I've never gotten sick of it. It defines the band
- 17:47Speaker 1: for me. It defines rock and roll for me. And
- 17:49Speaker 1: if you want to break down of exactly what I mean,
- 17:51Speaker 1: you can listen to the go back and listen to
- 17:54Speaker 1: the first ACDC episode. I get into it pretty thickly,
- 17:58Speaker 1: but yeah, that's my choice. It's it kind of defies
- 18:01Speaker 1: the criterion I set up earlier in the last episode
- 18:05Speaker 1: when I asked this question, I guess it's not that dynamic.
- 18:10Speaker 1: Like I said, it's not that varied. It kind of
- 18:13Speaker 1: does one thing. But I don't know. Like I said,
- 18:15Speaker 1: I just fucking love it. I love it and I
- 18:17Speaker 1: can listen to it forever. So there you go. Boring
- 18:20Speaker 1: answer from me, boring, I know, as not as thoughtful
- 18:24Speaker 1: as the Ziggy Stardust answer, but what can I say,
- 18:27Speaker 1: You guys are more thoughtful for me. Speaking of which,
- 18:29Speaker 1: let's check out this text from the two to eight,
- 18:36Speaker 1: who writes, Hey discos. This is Michelle with one L,
- 18:39Speaker 1: and I'm reaching out to tell you what I'm watching
- 18:41Speaker 1: right now. I did watch Black Rabbit, which I thought
- 18:44Speaker 1: was really good, and I finished watching The Monster with
- 18:48Speaker 1: ed Geen, the ed Geen story. But the one that
- 18:50Speaker 1: I'm most excited to tell you about is called Ratchet.
- 18:53Speaker 1: It's a really really great movie. And the Nurse, isn't
- 18:55Speaker 1: it based on the Nurse? And one flew over the
- 18:57Speaker 1: Cuckoo's nest. Dang, that's fantastic. As I read this, I'm
- 19:05Speaker 1: piecing together that this is actually a message for Zeth,
- 19:07Speaker 1: but I don't care. Michelle with one L you get
- 19:10Speaker 1: a little love here in Disgraceland, as I'm sure you're
- 19:12Speaker 1: gonna get it in hollywood Land as well. Michelle includes
- 19:16Speaker 1: a picture of well part of herself in front of
- 19:19Speaker 1: the mirror, and she says, here, I've included a picture
- 19:24Speaker 1: of my mirror where I jot down things that y'all
- 19:27Speaker 1: tell me I need to watch or listen to or whatever.
- 19:31Speaker 1: And there's some marker notes all over Michelle with one
- 19:36Speaker 1: l's mirror here and looks like I can see your
- 19:39Speaker 1: robe there as well. I'm gonna stop it there, Michelle,
- 19:41Speaker 1: thank you for the message. We appreciate it. Guys six
- 19:44Speaker 1: one seven nine O six six six three eight, And
- 19:46Speaker 1: you want to get in touch, want to talk about whatever,
- 19:48Speaker 1: go for it. I'm here and I will continue to
- 19:51Speaker 1: be here next week when our long awaited new episode
- 19:57Speaker 1: on Matt give me a drum roll, drum roll please,
- 20:00Speaker 1: as they say in the biz, that biz being show business,
- 20:03Speaker 1: give it to him, Att, stretch it out, man, make
- 20:06Speaker 1: it count, Come on, build up the anticipation. Our next
- 20:10Speaker 1: episode is on the Fish. Excuse me, I mean fish,
- 20:16Speaker 1: not the fish. What am I saying fish? Anyway, when
- 20:20Speaker 1: listening to this new Fish episode, I would like you
- 20:24Speaker 1: guys to be thinking about what music y'all like to
- 20:27Speaker 1: listen to when you're you know, you know, stoned, hi,
- 20:31Speaker 1: gummat up, perhaps flying on a few cocktails, as they say,
- 20:36Speaker 1: what are you kicking back to and putting on the
- 20:39Speaker 1: stereo when you're unwinding with perhaps I don't know some
- 20:43Speaker 1: of the stuff that Trey got into, some of the
- 20:46Speaker 1: not so adult stuff, some of the more recreational fun
- 20:48Speaker 1: stuff that doesn't kill you. What music do you like
- 20:51Speaker 1: to listen to? What records do you like to listen
- 20:54Speaker 1: to when you're you know, under the influence. That's the
- 20:57Speaker 1: question that's going to be our question of the week
- 20:58Speaker 1: next week in honor of the I mean fish. Excuse
- 21:02Speaker 1: me call me six one seven nine oh six six
- 21:04Speaker 1: sixty three eight, text me, leave me a voicemail, hit
- 21:06Speaker 1: me up on the socials at the Gray Lamb Pod
- 21:08Speaker 1: and let me know. You might hear your answer right
- 21:11Speaker 1: here in the after party.
- 21:12Speaker 4: All right, I'll be back in a flash.
- 21:28Speaker 1: All right, Mac, give me the drake may buzzer beater. Wait,
- 21:30Speaker 1: hold up, actually not yet, I'm always jumping the gun boating.
- 21:33Speaker 1: Hold it, hold it now, hold it now. This is
- 21:36Speaker 1: the sixty second Sports rant in under thirty seconds, and
- 21:39Speaker 1: it is once again sponsored by five Hour Energy's new
- 21:42Speaker 1: Pumpkin Spice flavor, your favorite fall drink in an energy shot.
- 21:46Speaker 1: You can pick up a Pumpkin Spice five Hour Energy
- 21:48Speaker 1: Shot available online at five hour Energy dot Com or Amazon.
- 21:53Speaker 1: All Right, Maddie, hit me with the tiki talk. There
- 21:55Speaker 1: we go. I called this the Drake May buzzer beater
- 21:58Speaker 1: because I'm afraid. I'm fearful. It's no longer Halloween season,
- 22:02Speaker 1: but I'm freaked out. How long? How long before Drake
- 22:07Speaker 1: May takes off out of my new England Patriots backfield
- 22:09Speaker 1: and has walloped with a season ending injury. The dude
- 22:12Speaker 1: needs to learn how to slide in the Patriots. They've
- 22:16Speaker 1: got to take the pressure off this kid and play better.
- 22:19Speaker 1: It can't be the Drake May show every damn weekend.
- 22:22Speaker 1: Okay one, He's gonna get killed trying to make plays
- 22:24Speaker 1: with his feet too. You cannot win a super Bowl
- 22:27Speaker 1: this way. I thought the Patriots are going to go
- 22:29Speaker 1: out of the trade deadline this week and pick up
- 22:31Speaker 1: an edge rusher, maybe some safety depth, perhaps a running
- 22:34Speaker 1: back that has hands that work and can hold onto
- 22:36Speaker 1: the damn football, anything to take the pressure off. But
- 22:39Speaker 1: no they didn't. They didn't do anything. They traded for
- 22:42Speaker 1: Dick bupkisses. What they did as in nothing, not a zilch.
- 22:45Speaker 1: Let's hope they know what they're doing and our quarterback
- 22:48Speaker 1: stays healthy.
- 22:49Speaker 3: Matt, how did I do fifty five seconds? Jake got
- 22:52Speaker 3: it under a minute?
- 22:53Speaker 1: Well, maybe I need some trade deadline out, Matt. Maybe
- 22:55Speaker 1: that's what it is, all right. That was the sports
- 22:57Speaker 1: ran sponsored by five Hour Energies New Pumpkins Spice flavor.
- 23:00Speaker 1: These new Pumpkin Spice five hour Energy shots are fall
- 23:03Speaker 1: in a bottle and bring that classic pumpkin spice flavor
- 23:06Speaker 1: that we all know and love, our favorite fall drink
- 23:09Speaker 1: in an energy shot. You can pick up a Pumpkinspice
- 23:12Speaker 1: five hour Energy shot available online at five hour Energy
- 23:15Speaker 1: dot Com or Amazon. All Right, I have not seen
- 23:20Speaker 1: the Springsteen movie, and I don't believe Matt has either.
- 23:24Speaker 1: I'm not motivated to. I've seen some clips. We've talked
- 23:28Speaker 1: a little bit about this. I'm a yeah, man, I
- 23:33Speaker 1: don't know anyway. Zeth has seen it, okay, and he's
- 23:37Speaker 1: talking about it over in the Hollywood Land Rap Party,
- 23:40Speaker 1: which you can hear today by following and subscribing to
- 23:43Speaker 1: the Hollywood Land Feed wherever you get your podcasts now.
- 23:47Speaker 1: I don't know if you guys heard, but we're rolling
- 23:51Speaker 1: out these new mini episodes to disgrace in All Access members.
- 23:56Speaker 1: These stories are the excess excess, the wild, weird and
- 24:00Speaker 1: interesting music history tales that just don't fit into our
- 24:04Speaker 1: full episodes. All right, this week, we've got an insane one. Okay,
- 24:08Speaker 1: we've got just a crazy This could have been the
- 24:10Speaker 1: entire full episode. And it's the story that I came upon.
- 24:16Speaker 1: I came to it late. I'll admit I came to
- 24:19Speaker 1: it when we first got into researching ac DC, and
- 24:24Speaker 1: I read the Jesse Fink book on Bond Scott and
- 24:29Speaker 1: there's this insane theory. It's more than a theory. There's
- 24:32Speaker 1: a lot of evidence that backs this up, a lot
- 24:34Speaker 1: of people going on the record and talking about this,
- 24:35Speaker 1: and there's a lot of circumstantial evidence as well that
- 24:39Speaker 1: points to this quote unquote theory being true. And it's
- 24:44Speaker 1: the theory that Brian Johnson, the singer on Back in Black,
- 24:48Speaker 1: was not responsible for writing the lyrics or all of
- 24:51Speaker 1: the lyrics. Excuse me, with the young brothers, and that
- 24:55Speaker 1: prior to his death, Bond Scott had actually finished writing
- 25:00Speaker 1: the lyrics to the entire album. Now there's some question of,
- 25:06Speaker 1: you know, how many of the lyrics he actually did finish. Uh,
- 25:10Speaker 1: And there's a huge question if this even happened. That
- 25:13Speaker 1: the Young brothers have denied it over and over again,
- 25:16Speaker 1: but they've also said some things that kind of opened
- 25:18Speaker 1: the door a little bit. It's a it's a I
- 25:21Speaker 1: don't want to say shady, but there's a lot of
- 25:23Speaker 1: gray area here and it's a fascinating, fascinating topic to
- 25:27Speaker 1: discuss and to try and unpack. So that's what we
- 25:31Speaker 1: do in the mini episode and Matt give them a
- 25:33Speaker 1: little taste. Given that Back in Black is the second
- 25:52Speaker 1: biggest selling record of all time, the matter of the
- 25:54Speaker 1: album's legitimacy is important. Did the band members who are
- 26:00Speaker 1: as writing the music for that album actually write the
- 26:04Speaker 1: music for that album? Yes, and possibly no. Ac DC's
- 26:12Speaker 1: guitarist brothers Malcolm and Angus Young are credited with writing
- 26:16Speaker 1: the music on Back and Black, alongside singer Brian Johnson,
- 26:20Speaker 1: who had just joined the band prior to Back in
- 26:22Speaker 1: Black's recording, As the recently deceased bon Scott's replacement of
- 26:27Speaker 1: the ten songs on Back in Black. All are credited
- 26:31Speaker 1: to Malcolm Young, Angus Young, and Brian Johnson, and it
- 26:34Speaker 1: should be noted that ac DC, Angus Young, and Brian
- 26:38Speaker 1: Johnson specifically have denied that bon Scott had anything to
- 26:43Speaker 1: do with the writing of the songs on Back in Black. However,
- 26:48Speaker 1: this vicious rumor persists that Brian Johnson did not write
- 26:54Speaker 1: the lyrics for Back in Black, that Bond Scott, prior
- 26:58Speaker 1: to dying, had indeed written the lyrics for the songs
- 27:03Speaker 1: on the second biggest selling album of all time. Now Again,
- 27:09Speaker 1: ACDC has vehemently denied this claim, but two of bon
- 27:14Speaker 1: Scott's girlfriends are on record saying that bon Scott absolutely
- 27:19Speaker 1: was writing the lyrics for acdc's next album before he
- 27:22Speaker 1: died in nineteen eighty and that next record was, of
- 27:25Speaker 1: course Back in Black. In fact, his girlfriend Silver Smith,
- 27:29Speaker 1: has stated publicly that on the night that Bond died,
- 27:33Speaker 1: Bond was in fact celebrating that he had just finished
- 27:36Speaker 1: writing the lyrics for what would become the band's next record,
- 27:39Speaker 1: and the band was set to go to the studio
- 27:41Speaker 1: straight away and recording. Now, when these rumors began to surface.
- 27:46Speaker 1: Malcolm Young said point blank that bon Scott had nothing
- 27:50Speaker 1: to do with the writing of Back in Black. Angus
- 27:53Speaker 1: Young said the same thing numerous times, and in his autobiography.
- 27:58Speaker 1: Brian Johnson later said on equipped that he wrote all
- 28:02Speaker 1: of the lyrics on Back in Black. He wrote everything,
- 28:05Speaker 1: but the lyrics on Back in Black. Many seem like
- 28:10Speaker 1: lyrics Bond Scott would write. She told me to come,
- 28:14Speaker 1: but I was already there. That sounds like a bond
- 28:17Speaker 1: Scott lyric, It really does, But that doesn't prove anything.
- 28:21Speaker 1: Brian Johnson was literally trying to replace what the previous
- 28:26Speaker 1: ACDC singer bon Scott was doing so naturally to please
- 28:31Speaker 1: the fans, even if he was doing it unintentionally. He's
- 28:34Speaker 1: going to try and do some of the same things
- 28:38Speaker 1: that the dude who just died who he's replacing, had done.
- 28:42Speaker 1: So when people bring up the fact that the lyrics
- 28:45Speaker 1: sound like bond Scott lyrics, it doesn't mean a lot
- 28:49Speaker 1: to me. However, after bon scott died in very short order,
- 28:54Speaker 1: in a matter of hours, bon Scott's London apartment was
- 28:58Speaker 1: cleared out, his TV, his fancy new VCR machine, his clothes,
- 29:04Speaker 1: his other personal effects. They were all taken, and so
- 29:09Speaker 1: was the notebook that Bond Scott was writing his lyrics.
- 29:15Speaker 1: All right, that's our newest DISGRACELAMD mini episode on the
- 29:18Speaker 1: back and black lyrics. Controversy concerning ACDC and that theme music.
- 29:22Speaker 1: That banger theme music created by mister Matt Boden is

- 32:44Speaker 3: All right.
- 32:45Speaker 1: On November sixth, twenty fourteen, ACDC drummer Phil Rudd was
- 32:49Speaker 1: arrested in what was one of the weirdest examples of
- 32:52Speaker 1: life imitating art that I've ever come across. And here's
