- 0:22SPEAKER_00: If you're having trouble getting focused and using your time well, I highly recommend using something called the Pomodoro Technique.
- 0:28SPEAKER_00: This is a simple focus strategy used by people all over the world and it works super well for writing.
- 0:35SPEAKER_00: In the 1980s, a university student named Francesco Cerillo was having trouble staying focused, so he decided he would try focusing for just 10 minutes.
- 0:44SPEAKER_00: And as part of his experiment, he used a tomato-shaped kitchen timer.
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: Pomodoro is the Italian word for tomato, and therefore a simple yet effective new productivity technique was born.
- 0:57SPEAKER_00: Now today this technique is commonly practiced in 25 minute segments.
- 1:01SPEAKER_00: It works kind of like this.
- 1:03SPEAKER_00: Pick an activity to focus on, set a timer for 25 minutes, focus on the task till the timer goes off, then take a break for 5 minutes, repeat several times, and then take a 30-minute break after a few rounds.
- 1:17SPEAKER_00: Now the genius of the Pomodoro technique is that it only requires short 25 minute bursts of activity.
- 1:24SPEAKER_00: We also know you're getting a break pretty frequently.
- 1:26SPEAKER_00: And the cool thing is that anybody can focus for 25 minutes, or at least almost anybody.
- 1:32SPEAKER_00: So I encourage you to give this technique a shot, and even if you only write for 25 minutes per day, you'll get a lot more done than if you only write whenever you feel motivated.
- 1:42SPEAKER_00: So here's today's challenge.
- 1:44SPEAKER_00: How much could you get done if you practice this technique once a day for a whole month?
