- 1:10Now here are the hosts of the United We Scan Podcast.
- 1:14Welcome back, everybody. Episode 73.
- 1:19Guess there's some new videos that the National Board has put
- 1:23out. And of course, James has his new
- 1:25breakdowns for those as well. I have not watched them yet, so
- 1:29I won't be included in that. But I'll give my opinion where
- 1:33it's necessary. That was your.
- 1:38I will exactly. You know, pinions are like
- 1:41assholes. Everyone has one.
- 1:44James, how was your week? And some of them are bigger than
- 1:47others. Exactly.
- 1:51As we have discussed normal week for me at the post office, you
- 1:56know, heavier than several of the past few weeks in terms of
- 2:00mail volume. Which is surprising considering
- 2:03that we've heard from our president so often that mail
- 2:06volume's declining, mail volume's declining.
- 2:08And then I get slammed with mail right after Mid States and it's
- 2:11kind of hilarious to me. On Thursday, I had an interview
- 2:16with Ron Speakman of Fed Up podcast.
- 2:19So Fed up with Ron Speakman, we'll have a interview with me
- 2:23coming up shortly. He'll she'll be posting that any
- 2:25times, so be on the lookout for that.
- 2:28And then this weekend got to see the auroras.
- 2:32I heard they could see them all the way down into Florida at
- 2:35points, but I actually got to see them for two days in a row,
- 2:38so it was actually my first time seeing them.
- 2:41So it was beautiful, Got a lot of pictures of it.
- 2:43I'm sure I shared it with several different places for
- 2:45people to see, but other than that, just a normal weekend for
- 2:50me. Didn't have to work Saturday
- 2:52like some people chose to or had to, but I got a lot of other
- 2:57stuff accomplished during that time anyway.
- 3:00So but other than that, it was a good week for me.
- 3:03How about you, Bill? Oh God, it's nothing better than
- 3:07coming back from vacation and Monday morning.
- 3:10Coming into 26 feet of flats. Damn.
- 3:15And then and then seven tubs of flats.
- 3:21I I clocked in. I walked over to the supervisor.
- 3:24I said, you want me to go home now or do you want me to go home
- 3:27at 10:00 tonight? And she says what?
- 3:30I said. This isn't all going well.
- 3:32Let me talk to the postman. So she turned around.
- 3:35The postmaster said we could leave the Clippers.
- 3:38Oh great. The easiest thing to handle is
- 3:40the thing we can leave. So I actually got out of the
- 3:45office at 2:55 on Monday to hit my route and I returned at eight
- 3:52O 3. The the, the funniest thing was
- 3:56when I walked by the supervisor and the postmasters there and I
- 4:00said, Gee, I wish somebody could get the plants under control so
- 4:02that we don't get everything on Monday and they spread it over a
- 4:05week And the postmaster says we can't do nothing about that.
- 4:10And I says I know why is that. And and we all know what?
- 4:15Well, in my area we all know why the the the plants answered and
- 4:18nobody but themselves and it's just horrendous that you get
- 4:22slammed like that on a Monday and then the rest of the week
- 4:25there's nothing. Yeah.
- 4:28Even even at the local level couldn't the postmaster delay
- 4:32some of the third class stuff until Tuesday and Wednesday.
- 4:36I mean is it that hard a job folks to figure that out that
- 4:39you don't want carriers out till 10:00 at night on Mondays.
- 4:43The rest of the week was normal. It was moderate parcels and
- 4:48parcels on speaking about stuff that I don't tray up.
- 4:51And then, you know, a phenomenal amount of spurs, you know,
- 4:5611151614 trays of spurs every day.
- 5:01And I'm only taking out six to seven trays of mail except for
- 5:05Monday, Monday. Monday was 13 trays of mail.
- 5:07But I mean, it's just ridiculous, folks.
- 5:10I mean, can't you just figure this out?
- 5:15It's not magic. It's it's not the calculus.
- 5:18It's not geometry. It's it's common sense.
- 5:21But you know that's like I said, you know common sense and and
- 5:25you know common courtesy are not so common in it more other than
- 5:29that. Like I said, you know, good
- 5:31week, grandsons Mother's Day. And now I'm here with my
- 5:35favorite people in the world, a second favorite, third favorite
- 5:39people in the world and looking forward to the next upcoming
- 5:44week. And like I said, I'll be, I'll
- 5:46be out for five weeks starting the 20th for an operation.
- 5:49But I'll still be participating in the podcast and gave my wife
- 5:54you know what to do when an active carrier dies And my my
- 5:58will updated Will and she's like what's this for in case I die
- 6:02because don't say that and I said, well you have to prepare.
- 6:06You never know when you go under whether you're coming back out.
- 6:10So, you know, it's supposed to be a normal operation and
- 6:14everything, and they'll put a mesh in there, but hey, it's all
- 6:18in God's hands, not mine. How about you, Kristen?
- 6:22How was your week? It was heavy for me all week
- 6:27Monday, coming back off of mid states.
- 6:29I hadn't worked since what, Wednesday, so I was all
- 6:35discombobulated. Monday I was missing parcels,
- 6:39turning around multiple times throughout throughout.
- 6:43They're like, oh there's another one.
- 6:46Monday was heavy as usual. It's Monday, Tuesday actually.
- 6:51I was looking forward to walking in and having maybe a three 3
- 6:541/2 DPS for a Tuesday, which is normal for me.
- 6:57Nope, I had three. So yeah, it was pretty heavy all
- 7:02week and then I had to work my K day yesterday because our H
- 7:05route is took some vacation time so they needed my sub for that
- 7:10route and food drive day. And actually yesterday ended up
- 7:15being the lightest day of the whole week for me.
- 7:18So I guess if I'm working my K day I was glad it was light and
- 7:23even given the rain we did pretty good with donations on
- 7:26the food drive. So, but other than that, my week
- 7:29wasn't too bad, just heavy. And yeah, not a whole lot going
- 7:38on other than that. And this week I've got, I'm off
- 7:42Wednesday, so I'm not too worried about it.
- 7:44Ruby's got her OB appointment and then Thursday I start
- 7:48training a new RCA. We will see how this, we will
- 7:53see how this goes. This RCA is an older person, so
- 8:01we'll we'll see how it goes. And as far as the food drive
- 8:06goes, Lord, I wish people would stop complaining about having to
- 8:10do it for one day. Exactly.
- 8:15For one day, I mean, you have a job, you know you've got
- 8:20benefits if your career, even if you're an RCA, you can have
- 8:25benefits or PTF. But God, there are so many
- 8:29people out there hurting right now.
- 8:30And you know you can't be generous.
- 8:34You know, for one stinking day you know of yourselves.
- 8:39I've worked this route on Food drive day in the past as an RCA,
- 8:42so I know how much I can pick up on this route and I didn't pick
- 8:47up anywhere near what I have in the past.
- 8:49Oh, I think a lot of that was because of the weather.
- 8:52But the majority of the stops I did have to stop at, I actually
- 8:56had to get out and load it into the back of the truck because
- 9:00there was that much, Whether it was garbage bags because it was
- 9:04raining or boxes with bags on top of them to keep the rain
- 9:07off. I had quite a bit.
- 9:09But there was like only a couple 2-2 of the stops I picked up
- 9:12that I could actually pick it up from the cab of the truck.
- 9:15So yeah, it wasn't too bad. I was actually impressed with
- 9:20what I did have. A sub said she had more pickups
- 9:25than she had mail and parcels. That's like.
- 9:28Yeah, I mean in the past I would have been able to say that with
- 9:32the way yesterday went. But yeah, I mean as somebody who
- 9:36has been, you know, scraping the bottom and has had to use food
- 9:40pantry services in the past, you know, I have no issues with the
- 9:45food drive day and having to pick stuff up because I know
- 9:47it's going to go to the people that need it.
- 9:50And it's tough out there for many folks, including many
- 9:53postal workers. I mean, you know, it's it's
- 9:56tough out there. Yeah, and I just saw a report
- 10:00that American Airlines actually gives its brand new flight
- 10:06attendants poverty letters to take into their Community Health
- 10:14and Human Services organization so they can get food stamps
- 10:19because they are paid less than $27,000 a year.
- 10:24Yeah. And they have not ratified a
- 10:27contract since 2019 for them. So I'm hoping they get a good
- 10:32contract in their negotiations that they're doing.
- 10:35But theirs is a lot bigger of a contract than ours.
- 10:39I read one part, there's a section on it on just uniforms
- 10:43that is specifically 15 pages long.
- 10:47So and then they got other parts like duties and responsibilities
- 10:51that they have to do in the contract that's 78 pages long.
- 10:55So they've got a long contract fight ahead of them, but right
- 10:58now they're they're on the food pantry and food stamp lifestyle
- 11:04themselves and we've got Rcas that working one day a week
- 11:09aren't making it either so. I tell you what I do.
- 11:14I do miss, so miss those paychecks.
- 11:16Coming home working six days a week as an RCA though.
- 11:20Yeah, I hear that. I hear that same thing up
- 11:24though. You know, I I don't get me
- 11:26wrong. I I like the consistency of
- 11:28having a somewhat same paycheck every pay period.
- 11:33But I I do miss some of those RCA paychecks.
- 11:36I won't lie. But yeah, no, you know, I I have
- 11:43no problems with food drive day. You know, a lot of people
- 11:46grumble or how we're going to get paid for this.
- 11:47Honey, you know, you never got paid for it in the past.
- 11:50You're not going to get paid for it now.
- 11:53You know it. You're you're providing a
- 11:54service and there are many of those that are in a lot of worse
- 11:58spots than we are that need those services.
- 12:01And so yeah, I honestly don't mind.
- 12:04It's just really nerve wracking when people are throwing stuff
- 12:08that's been expired for five years out there to pick up.
- 12:11But I don't know. Yeah.
- 12:15What's worse than that is like, you know, carriers, I know that
- 12:18when they bring the food back, they go through the bags to find
- 12:22out what they want to take and they always yell at me for that.
- 12:31Yeah, I don't know. So this week's topic everybody's
- 12:37been abuzz about and begging for us to do a breakdown on is
- 12:42Mastan's video on doing this, Step 4 on route adjustments and
- 12:49what it means to the rural carriers.
- 12:52So we're going to go through this line by line, the parts
- 12:56that have the most impact that we can talk about in the very
- 13:02first line, very first sentence. He goes, hello, my union brother
- 13:08sisters, hello my union sisters and brothers.
- 13:13Do you think somebody actually learned from the last one we did
- 13:16to correct his way of speaking about it?
- 13:19Plagiarism. But he goes on.
- 13:26Last week, the NRLCA filed a national level grievance on the
- 13:29Postal Service's failure to follow the contractual
- 13:32provisions, which requires the that rural carriers receive
- 13:35interim adjustments based on the formula in the national
- 13:38agreement. How long have we been dealing
- 13:42with this bill? Seven months.
- 13:48More than. Well, pretty adjustments at
- 13:53least seven months for following the contract, 103 years.
- 14:04It's it's amazing to think that we have this provision in here
- 14:09to adjust routes interimally when we add more boxes, add more
- 14:13miles to a route that has been in place for a long time and was
- 14:19working just fine prior to Rex. And they turn around and
- 14:23implement Rex and have no way of fixing anything that is required
- 14:27of them. He then goes on to say, I had
- 14:33been hopeful that the Postal Service would have already
- 14:36implemented the interim and justice process since we had
- 14:39approved the worksheet they presented to us more than seven
- 14:42months ago. He was hopeful that the Postal
- 14:47Service would do it. What's your thought Bill?
- 14:50Do you think you they've they would have done it anyway?
- 14:53Well, let's take that word hopeful, and put it in context
- 14:58of what the national board hasn't done for the past 15
- 15:03years at least, And that is hoping that the post office
- 15:08stands up on their end of the contract, that they abide by the
- 15:13letter of the law. And hopeful is oh I'm gonna wait
- 15:17for them to get around to do it before I do something for
- 15:21there's enough exertion on the National board to actually act
- 15:25in the interests of the carriers.
- 15:28Hopeful is I don't know what to do let me talk to our legal team
- 15:32and find out what we should do. This is the the same context
- 15:37that I negotiate for your on your behalf for a new contract.
- 15:42But I have nine different advisors even one from the
- 15:45Teamsters help us negotiate a new contract.
- 15:49You are hopeful that somebody who is used to taking advantage
- 15:53of our craft. We're hopeful that a entity, a
- 15:58business entity that for five years from 2018 to 23 has not
- 16:03paid people for their overburdened routes.
- 16:06With the introduction of Amazon into many offices, you're
- 16:09hopeful that after the first two mini mail surveys overburdened
- 16:15routes was 607080 plus hours will be adjusted.
- 16:21This is we're we're past hopeful this is to the point of lawsuit.
- 16:26This is this you know I I'll say this in in context OK folks this
- 16:32is to the point of mismanagement on an international level.
- 16:41It it's just it it pisses me off that we can't strike.
- 16:47Many people can't afford to go out on the strike, but the fact
- 16:50of the matter is can do without management in our local offices
- 16:55every day. They can't do without us, and we
- 16:59ought to be swinging that hammer.
- 17:02That's what I would be doing. Wouldn't be hopeful.
- 17:05Seven months. I wouldn't.
- 17:07I'd give them 30 days and then I'd have filed. 3 days later I'd
- 17:12have filed again and again and again every 30 days.
- 17:17It matches their pattern, though, because they filed that
- 17:21one before. Three months after carrier,
- 17:2355,000 carriers didn't get paid. Took them three months to file
- 17:28that one. It's it's inexcusable.
- 17:33It it really is that you know our leader is hopeful.
- 17:39You know this leader would have told you I'm pissed.
- 17:43I wouldn't have said hopeful. I I'd have said I'm pissed that
- 17:47the past administration didn't do anything earlier.
- 17:52I asked they. Would be held up for they.
- 17:54They would have to be held to be failure to duly represent the
- 17:58craft. And The thing is, is with the
- 18:02interim adjustments, I mean that's what you know prior to
- 18:05Rex that was your bank time, that was your, you know, you add
- 18:09so many boxes or you vacate so many boxes.
- 18:14So now we're waiting on this because I it's unfair to some of
- 18:18these routes that have growth and I'm not talking about the
- 18:21overburden that are already overburdened right now.
- 18:25That's the totally different entity in itself at this point
- 18:28with cutting, with cutting of the overburden routes.
- 18:31But the interim adjustments could make a huge difference
- 18:35with some of these smaller routes that have the growth, but
- 18:39now they're but have as it's been so far, they've had to wait
- 18:43for six months to the next mini mail survey to see if it did
- 18:47anything for them. Now this way, you know, get this
- 18:52going that way we can properly be evaluated throughout the
- 18:55whole year rather than having to wait six months.
- 19:00And you know, fingers crossed that it works out and maybe we
- 19:04don't go in overburdened. We'll at least have know what's
- 19:07going on with our routes. I think it's ridiculous that
- 19:10they waited seven months to file.
- 19:13Honestly, I really do. I mean, right, the 30 days, I,
- 19:18you know, I could see where Bill's coming from on that maybe
- 19:2090 days. At 90 days I would have been
- 19:22like no, you know, we're, we're following those.
- 19:25You have this, we need to do this.
- 19:27We have already had the third mini Mail survey you know people
- 19:31have. Madam Vice President, I disagree
- 19:34with you. You've had 12 years to get this
- 19:37shit going. 30 days. 90 days. Forget it. 30 days.
- 19:45Sorry, Madam Vice President. That's OK.
- 19:48And that's where we can agree to disagree, you know?
- 19:56So he goes on to explain that they had gone over everything
- 20:00and told the Postal Service they supported the worksheet, so on
- 20:04and so forth and goes over the course of the next several
- 20:08months. We inquired with the Postal
- 20:10Service on multiple occasions when the interim adjustments
- 20:14were going to take place. So Kristen, would this be, we're
- 20:19going to talk with them And if they aren't willing to talk,
- 20:21we'll turn around and talk again.
- 20:23And if they don't talk to us, we'll walk out of the room,
- 20:25stop, turn around and go back in and talk some more.
- 20:28Absolutely not. That's where, you know, like
- 20:31Bill said 30 days, I said 90 days, but that's where that
- 20:34time, within that 90 days, let's test this and make sure it
- 20:37works. And if it's working and it ain't
- 20:41in place, then yeah, I'm going to file right away not all this.
- 20:44Well, we're going to be helpful and we're going to go back and
- 20:48talk because I haven't started it yet.
- 20:51And oh, let's go back and talk. No, no, there's no going backing
- 20:55and talking and going back and talk and going back and talk.
- 20:59It's like let's get this done, let's do this and get it out
- 21:02there because it needs to be done.
- 21:05You know you're harming your workforce by not having it in
- 21:09place. And with this calculator, they
- 21:13have alleged calculator they have readily available.
- 21:18Does anybody know of any offices that have been adjusted, cut,
- 21:23squared off, whatever you want to call it.
- 21:25I have yet to hear anybody say that it's been implemented
- 21:30across the country. So if anybody in our listening
- 21:32audience or, you know, through the course of the week listen to
- 21:36the podcast, let us know. Contact us, because I've not
- 21:41heard of any office yet. I know we have one listener who
- 21:47may join us later if she's up to it, that she knows that her
- 21:52route is supposed to be finalized cut by Friday, so it
- 21:56would start under the new pay period Saturday, so when she
- 21:59gets back into the office tomorrow, she'll see where
- 22:01they're at. There's one saying June 2nd
- 22:06instead we we were told a month ago and still nothing.
- 22:12Yeah. So he turns around and goes.
- 22:15I let the postal, Postal Service know that this was unacceptable
- 22:19and once again was advised they were going to move forward.
- 22:23But as is all too common with the Postal Service management,
- 22:27the interim adjustment worksheet still has not been put into use.
- 22:34There's your talking. And it didn't work.
- 22:37So we went back and talked some more again.
- 22:46Let's let's keep talking because you know that gets a lot
- 22:48accomplished. You know, and and they're
- 22:51they're going to implement it. But they didn't give a time
- 22:53frame, did they? That's where you have to nail
- 22:56them down on that. When, where ow, what are the
- 23:03answers we need to know. Yes, we we need to know
- 23:08specifics, not generalities. I want to know so I can as so if
- 23:15I was the Director of Stewart operations I want to know so I
- 23:18can contact the stewards in those offices, the DRS and the
- 23:21ADRS and let them know hey these offices and these routes are
- 23:25getting the interim adjustment as a test to start or here they
- 23:29come and same with the route cuts.
- 23:32These, these are the ones we're going after, help help us in
- 23:36these offices to make sure it gets implemented properly,
- 23:40something like that, he says. It has become apparent that we
- 23:44should not and cannot wait any longer.
- 23:48Bill, he couldn't wait any longer.
- 23:53Why not One month, Seven months? Nine months?
- 23:57Does it affect your pay, Don? No, it doesn't.
- 24:00And that's why you don't give a rat's ass about the craft.
- 24:07Your national board determined carriers have waited long enough
- 24:11and we filed a national level grievance.
- 24:14It is our position that the employer implemented a new
- 24:17compensation system without an appropriate tool to provide
- 24:20interim adjustments. Hang on a second, we were at
- 24:26SWAC and also Kristen and you and I were at SWAC.
- 24:30Kristen and I were at mid states.
- 24:32Didn't he say that Rex was pretty much perfected at that
- 24:36point, but yet now he's saying that they implemented it without
- 24:40an appropriate tool, so they agreed to a system that wasn't
- 24:45ready and allowed them to implement it when it wasn't
- 24:48ready. I believe that would be the
- 24:53proper analysis of that statement, yes.
- 24:55It wasn't ready and we let them go ahead anyway.
- 25:00And you're surprised by this? How?
- 25:03Oh, I didn't say I was surprised.
- 25:04I'm just saying that's what I got from that statement.
- 25:09And of course the comment, the comments that he made at both
- 25:13conventions that I attended and the ones that you both attended
- 25:16with me. Our grievance demands the
- 25:20employer immediately comply with the provisions of Articles 92C10
- 25:27and that these, those carriers who have been harmed, be made
- 25:30whole retroactively for all deliveries and miles added since
- 25:35the initial implementation of Rex with interest to be paid
- 25:41interest with interest to be paid at the federal judgement
- 25:45rate. So that's the top level they're
- 25:50asking for is for retroactive payment for all miles and
- 25:55deliveries added since Rex and interest before it's.
- 26:02Settled and penalties and penalties.
- 26:05There's no penalties on there. I know it would have been.
- 26:11But I'm trying to figure out here what the whole point was
- 26:15putting that out over the airwaves when they haven't
- 26:17settled it yet. That's their work on being
- 26:22somewhat transparent and letting them know that, letting the
- 26:26craft know that they are trying to do stuff.
- 26:31But wait, wasn't there a Step 4 recently that they filed that
- 26:35they didn't tell us what they were asking for to give carriers
- 26:38and they did tell us about it in a video?
- 26:43I don't know. Was there?
- 26:45I believe there was, if if we recall correctly, because I
- 26:50believe there was a Step 4 filed for something that management
- 26:54was, I'm looking, give me just a moment.
- 27:02Honestly, I think they need to to to do a Step 4 on mapping
- 27:07being done correctly and it's because it's not in all the
- 27:11offices. Yes, there are a good amount of
- 27:14offices that are doing their mapping correctly.
- 27:17But I am still hearing every day, every week, every month
- 27:22about offices. The carriers don't get to sit
- 27:24down every month to do their mapping, or they don't.
- 27:28They haven't done mapping since they did their first initial
- 27:30mapping two years ago, or they. Or longer.
- 27:34Or only update it just before a mini mail survey.
- 27:39Where? Where's the backing from the
- 27:41union on that? Or where's the radar reports
- 27:44every day, the PT, Rs every day? Exactly.
- 27:49Every day. Not when you get to it Every
- 27:53day. And not just during the Minnie
- 27:55Mouse survey every day. Where is the Step 4 on
- 28:02management falsifying the mapping?
- 28:08That's what I'm saying. No, no.
- 28:11Use the word falsifying because that is what management is doing
- 28:19is falsifying. And anybody caught falsifying a
- 28:27government document? As a Union, we should demand
- 28:30their immediate removal from the United States Postal Service,
- 28:34not transfer removal. They're like on that one.
- 28:39From what I from what I've seen of getting management removed,
- 28:43it takes an arbitrator to to remove a manager because
- 28:46management doesn't bother to manage their managers.
- 28:50So before we finish this video out, he goes on.
- 28:55We have given the Postal Service ample time to do the right
- 28:58thing, but their continued lack of follow through has once again
- 29:02left us no choice but to take this action and include a
- 29:05retroactive component to the remedy so no carrier is left
- 29:10behind. And we all know how long it
- 29:15takes to get retro pay for anything from the United States
- 29:19Postal Service. So if you are affected by this
- 29:25and it does go through and you're due some retro pay, good
- 29:31luck seeing that within the next 12 months.
- 29:34Well, if there's a new president in town, it'd be file Step 4 for
- 29:38failure to comply every 30 days, right, Bill?
- 29:41You bet. I'm going to chop down the
- 29:44entire Brazilian forest and flood them with newspapers every
- 29:48day, grievances after grievance after grievance.
- 29:51Then I'm going to grieve the grievances and then we're going
- 29:55to go. Then we're going to go to the
- 29:56National Labor Relations Board in regards to jeopardizing
- 29:59people's jobs, their mental health, their, their
- 30:04psychological stability, because this shit's driving people
- 30:08crazy. It really is.
- 30:10Oh, it is I You know when you you're talking to your carrier
- 30:14friends from other cities, States and whatnot on the phone
- 30:19and they're nearly in tears because of what they're going
- 30:21through in their office and you just it breaks your heart.
- 30:25It really does. I mean, my office is not perfect
- 30:29either, don't get me wrong, but wow.
- 30:33I had to almost laugh and cry at the same time.
- 30:36Today a gentleman posted that he was interviewed for a position.
- 30:42He was hired. It took him 4 1/2 months to go
- 30:47through the entire process and he had to wait a month After
- 30:51everything all said and done before his start date and then
- 30:55on his start date the postmaster advised him his POV wasn't large
- 30:59enough. He says I'm here to get a job,
- 31:04I'm here to make money and need to work and for almost six
- 31:10months they put me through this and then come up and say my POV
- 31:13is not large enough. Nobody explained that to him
- 31:17whatsoever through the entire process.
- 31:20No they don't. What a failure.
- 31:25And then they want to rag on newer Rcas who are assigned to
- 31:28government vehicle routes. And because you have one POV in
- 31:32the office in the route and well, you have to have apov and
- 31:35they'll give them six months and then then they're ragging on
- 31:38them. I'm sorry, people #1 new Rcas
- 31:43more than likely cannot afford a vehicle that they can deliver
- 31:47out of, if you can even find one.
- 31:49And I'm not talking about going out and buying a right hand
- 31:51drive Jeep. I'm talking about something that
- 31:53you can deliver out of, preferably a bench seat or
- 31:56having to get a vehicle and getting conversion pedals.
- 31:59I mean, that's a big chunk of change.
- 32:03And then the upkeep on that as well.
- 32:05And I know as a POV driver for nearly nine years, that gets
- 32:10expensive, especially as an RCA. And that's where I learned to do
- 32:14a lot of my own maintenance on my own.
- 32:17I mean, there were days where I was hitting the auto parts store
- 32:20when they opened the door at 6:00 AM and grabbing brake parts
- 32:24and change it out in my driveway so I could be to work at 7:30 in
- 32:27the morning. You know, I've been there.
- 32:29I mean, that is a lot. And they don't explain that part
- 32:33of the job at all. And I think, you know, yes, you
- 32:40have to have a vehicle that you can deliver out of I completely,
- 32:44you know, I get that it's in the job description on the job
- 32:47posting, but they don't explain what that entails.
- 32:55Or the the one where Oh well you need a backup vehicle for your
- 32:59POV. What?
- 33:01No, I I need to have two vehicles for the purpose of
- 33:05delivering mail. Do you have two trucks available
- 33:07for each route? No, sorry, kiss my ass folks.
- 33:12Because you know, you're you're right.
- 33:15It's hard enough to get one vehicle suitable cross drive or
- 33:19do the pedals and you know bench seats.
- 33:21You just, you just put a piece of wood across there so that you
- 33:24can slide back and forth, you know, with little wheels on
- 33:28there for your ass. But two vehicles?
- 33:31Give me a break. Oh, I know.
- 33:34And I mean. This also goes.
- 33:36This goes back to proper Academy training materials that haven't
- 33:42been updated in over five years. And now, yeah, and we we got the
- 33:49update on that at mid states, I mean it's in the works.
- 33:52Yes, finally. With the vice president that
- 33:55actually is working on it. Yes, because that vice President
- 33:59and myself who is running against him and we're we're on
- 34:02decent terms but you know personal wise you know he he
- 34:07feels our opinions and how we feel towards our CAS are quite
- 34:11similar. And so yeah, I mean that
- 34:13definitely I5 years, why it's taken this long, I'm not going
- 34:18to touch that one right now. But you know and that's at no
- 34:22fault to our current VP, he's only been there for a year going
- 34:26on. He was he was only an executive
- 34:28committeeman prior to this, correct?
- 34:31So he did not have the ability to do the work he's doing now as
- 34:34an executive committeeman. Yes.
- 34:37So that falls on the heads of the former VP who is currently
- 34:40the President. So anyways, and that's all, I'm
- 34:44going to touch on that one. Let's finish this out.
- 34:47I have one more sentence left, he lastly says.
- 34:53I remain committed to keeping you posted about this issue and
- 34:57other contract administration issues and on collective
- 35:01bargaining as we continue to fight on your behalf.
- 35:06Trying to carefully phrase this, let me put this succinctly and
- 35:11please do not edit this, OK? Are you fucking kidding me?
- 35:18Nobody has faith in the National Board.
- 35:21Nobody believes that you're acting in our best interests.
- 35:25Nobody cares of all the file you spew at us in these videos
- 35:32because we don't trust you. We don't believe you and we're
- 35:37sick and tired of the bullshit and the rant and do not edit
- 35:46that. Perfectly said, Bill.
- 35:51Perfectly said. You got a man who stands up
- 35:55there at 1st and tells us that rural carriers have had it too
- 35:59good for too long. Tells us that carriers are now
- 36:04getting off closer to their evaluation times than ever
- 36:08before. One of the biggest benefits of
- 36:11the rural craft is no longer available, which was getting off
- 36:15ahead of your evaluation a few hours early because you knew
- 36:19that come Christmas time, prior to the three weeks that we get
- 36:23overtime guaranteed That extra 2 hours during the summer was a
- 36:29big benefit to the craft as a whole.
- 36:34And they took that away from us and this man stood up there and
- 36:39told us that this was the best thing to happen to the rural
- 36:42crafts and sliced bread. He's telling us that the
- 36:46delivery for America plan is gold, should be something we
- 36:52should look forward to and change has to happen or we'll
- 36:57get left behind. And then he turns around and
- 36:59says so no carrier is left behind, even though he just told
- 37:03carriers at mid states that if you either change with the times
- 37:08or you get left behind. You know, I get accused of
- 37:15misquoting him quite a lot. But the key to it is, is that is
- 37:21also the feeling that I get from the words that he is speaking.
- 37:27He turns around and says one thing and then does another.
- 37:32I felt that several times between what he said at SWAC
- 37:36versus what he said at mid States and versus what he says
- 37:41on these videos. I don't know if you can agree
- 37:44with me on that or not though compared to what he said at SWAC
- 37:47or not. But that is that is how I feel
- 37:50about it, is that there is not something intrinsically honest
- 37:55about what he tells carriers versus what he tells management.
- 38:01Did you agree, Bill? No, you're you're 100% right.
- 38:04There's no sincerity whatsoever because of the fact that there
- 38:08is no real concern for us. He can't empathize with our
- 38:14situation because of the fact that his route is 320 miles away
- 38:18from where he lives in California.
- 38:20His route is in an office so small that, oh, we we can't, you
- 38:24know, bring his down to a 43. We don't have the office space
- 38:27or the casing equipment to allocate for, you know, the
- 38:31cuts. I mean, I hate to say, yeah,
- 38:35it's a load of horseshit, but horseshit, there's plenty of
- 38:40facilities that I know that have trailers where they have
- 38:43carriers working out of because of the fact that they don't have
- 38:46sufficient office space in in Don's office where he's padding
- 38:51his high threes for his retirement from the post office,
- 38:55they they won't do the cuts because insufficient office
- 38:58space. Everything that they do is in
- 39:02their own interest. It's not in our interest
- 39:04whatsoever, like you said. I mean he he's double speaking
- 39:08left and right from one format to the other and it's of their
- 39:13own self-interest. It's placating the masses with,
- 39:17you know, just I I can't help but say kiss ass, you know,
- 39:21speak. Because you know he he wants to
- 39:24say, oh, look what we've done. Well, you've done nothing for
- 39:28us. So do me a favor.
- 39:32Stop making the videos. Stop wasting our time.
- 39:36You know it takes me back to the talking about people who don't
- 39:39pay dues and how he tried so hard at mid states to get the
- 39:46group to cheer for him, Talking about non dues paying members,
- 39:53calling them freeloaders. And he paused.
- 39:56He did a pregnant pause and nobody applauded, nobody cheered
- 40:00or anything. He goes, I wasn't going to say
- 40:03it, but I'm going to say it anyway.
- 40:04Scabs to get the cheers from the crowd.
- 40:08That right there to me tells me he's not concerned with the
- 40:12craft, he's only concerned with the amount of money coming into
- 40:16the union and he will do anything.
- 40:21To get your applause, even if it means using a term that means
- 40:30people crossing a picket line, and that is the modern
- 40:35definition of it on the basis of striking workers.
- 40:42I'm still waiting, Don. Are you going to call for a
- 40:45strike since you continue to use the word scabs?
- 40:49He's just monetizing the union. In regards to the $17 million we
- 40:54could generate if everybody joined, what what about the fact
- 40:58that you know you have 17,000,000 there you have $17
- 41:01million that actually represents individuals whose concerns
- 41:05should be on forefront of your mind.
- 41:07I mean that is the reason you're there not to represent the
- 41:12dollars, not these. We can go out and buy another
- 41:15$1,000,000 house in Alexandria, or, you know, pick up your
- 41:18expenses while you're travelling and getting your your diem.
- 41:24But you know, to represent the craft, all the craft.
- 41:33Yeah, because you can't just go with the majority.
- 41:37You can't just go with the bell curves, can't just look at
- 41:41spreadsheets and know how the craft is doing.
- 41:44You have to get out there and take a look.
- 41:47You have to be down with the boots on the ground.
- 41:51Because when push comes to shove, the people on the ground
- 41:57are the ones who matter the most in this situation.
- 42:02And what you've done is alienate enough of them to pull their
- 42:05dues to get us to $17 million outside.
- 42:12You've lost enough people that way by not listening to the
- 42:18craft, and now you're trying to tell them you're listening to
- 42:21them and tell them that you're fighting on their behalf because
- 42:25you're afraid of what's coming. His biggest problem is that
- 42:31whether you're a union member or not, he represents the entire
- 42:36craft, the entire body of the rule carrier craft, And to be
- 42:43speaking down to people like that, I don't like condescending
- 42:47unless I'm talking to management.
- 42:49And then the other problem of it is, like you said James, you
- 42:52know you're looking at numbers, you're looking at 17,000,000,
- 42:55you're looking at 240 knowledgeable union members left
- 42:59SWAC, but that's OK because we signed more new hires up to make
- 43:04up the difference. You can't look at the graphs,
- 43:07just like management can't sit there and be studying their
- 43:10charge and doing their files and getting their reports and does
- 43:14nothing to make the job equitable, efficient or
- 43:21enjoyable. Why should people mean short of
- 43:25working in cesspools, why should people not enjoy going to work?
- 43:33I agree. At least they're getting.
- 43:34At least they're getting paid to deal with shit Or not.
- 43:40You know, I love my job, but I love it more once I get out of
- 43:43the office. And that.
- 43:46It it's it, you know, if I could do my job without having to deal
- 43:50with management that I have and I could just get in there, case
- 43:53my mail up if my parcel if I didn't have to, wait for the
- 43:56clerks to sort the parcels and twiddle my thumbs and what not.
- 44:01And listen to management ranting about one thing or another and
- 44:03nitpicking this or putting a target on this RC as back.
- 44:07Or, you know, the stupid petty BS in the office stuff.
- 44:13You know, it would be. I would love it even more.
- 44:16But man, the minute I'm I hit that departure route and I'm out
- 44:19that door. I am.
- 44:22I'm. I'm golden.
- 44:23It It's so much better. Oh, frequency put up about the
- 44:30OR to visit the Midwest over the Tornadoes or is Hawaii just
- 44:33super special? Well, there there was what like
- 44:379 carriers in Hawaii that were affected.
- 44:40I I don't know that there was more than a couple, 100 people
- 44:42affected through the Miss West. I mean, come on, let's be
- 44:45reasonable. Where would you rather go?
- 44:49Hey, do you guys want to talk about an SNDC real quick?
- 44:52Well Speaking of comments, Speaking of comments while you
- 44:56set that up, one person posted I got some overburdened routes in
- 45:00my office that our POOM has forbidden giving help to.
- 45:03Now they are in 2080 trouble already and Postmaster saying
- 45:07they're going to have to force them to take leave without pay
- 45:10to stay under. I'm about to get all kinds of
- 45:13steward practice here shortly. Yes, you are.
- 45:17You're going to get so much practice with that bill.
- 45:20What's he going to be doing the whole time?
- 45:23He's all file, file, file and smile.
- 45:26Matter of fact, won't have to run his route.
- 45:29He'll be so busy filing, so. All right, Kristen, go ahead and
- 45:37hear your introduction. Yes, yes, welcome Lynn.
- 45:41Hi. How are you?
- 45:42We're good. Can you hear me all right?
- 45:46Absolutely. Oh, this is weird.
- 45:53I don't know where to start. I do want to say happy Mother's
- 45:55Day to everyone. It's listening.
- 45:57And Kristen. Thank you.
- 46:02When we moved to the SNDCI was trying so hard to be positive.
- 46:08You know, I try to stay positive and see the good and everything
- 46:14and we get there. And you know, it was a little
- 46:17chaotic at first, but it's pretty smooth now for you know,
- 46:22we're where we park and where we.
- 46:24It's a lot of walking for sure, but when we moved for my route,
- 46:31it added four hours and we moved.
- 46:34The first day there was February 24th and now this past week it
- 46:41did. It did up my route to A48K and
- 46:46now I make too much and higher level management's coming in
- 46:50cotton. He was supposed to be there I
- 46:53think 2 weeks ago, but he went to the SNDCA bit north of me,
- 47:01higher, higher upstate New York and did that whole S&D first.
- 47:07Now he's on to ours and he walked up to me Thursday, the
- 47:12higher level management guy and I said, you know my route, it's
- 47:17not really overburdened. I'm done by maybe, you know 233
- 47:22o'clock, maybe a little bit later on Mondays but it's not
- 47:26really overburdened. I said in the next mini mail
- 47:30survey it's I know how the. I know a bit about how Rex
- 47:37works. I said I know it's going to lose
- 47:392 to 3 hours in the next mini mail survey and he looked at me
- 47:44and he said not my problem and when I go in tomorrow, I'm sure
- 47:48I'll hear some what they're going to do different but I have
- 47:52other than that I don't really, I don't really know what to
- 47:55expect. I don't know what else to talk
- 47:59about. So we have a question for you
- 48:02from the listeners. Yeah.
- 48:05Do you do you share a case in your SNDC?
- 48:07I've seen rumors about cases that had removable labels so
- 48:10that several routes could share cases.
- 48:13No, no sharing cases that I've seen.
- 48:18And if if they were file, file, file on that because we're not
- 48:22supposed to share cases. Yeah, there's actually probably
- 48:28at least 15, maybe 20 more cases that don't have any labels on
- 48:33them yet because there was another town that was supposed
- 48:36to move in and they keep delaying it because I guess they
- 48:40have their own, the city carriers there have their own
- 48:44extra, They have like extra details in their in their
- 48:46contract that says they have to have their own parking and
- 48:51there's not enough parking for them.
- 48:53So they keep pushing them off every six months, pushing them
- 48:56off. So I don't know what's going on
- 48:59with that. But what's the average when you
- 49:03when you walk into the facility, how far of a walk do you have to
- 49:07go to your case? I don't know exactly I'm from.
- 49:11When I get to work, I need 10 minutes to walk from the parking
- 49:17lot to where my scanner is, to get to my case, to get my badge
- 49:24sign in. It's it's massive.
- 49:31How many routes in general have grown with the conversion to the
- 49:36relocation to the SDC? Every single one of them.
- 49:40I'm certain There's some routes. I I talk to everybody.
- 49:46I try to, you know, be friendly with with everybody and I've
- 49:50heard of one. One of the people there told me
- 49:53that they gained 6 hours by with the booth.
- 49:58Yeah, it's. That leads me, yeah, it leads me
- 50:00back to the question of what are you saving, you know, cost wise?
- 50:05Yeah, it it there's some positive with that.
- 50:10And I don't know how they're saving money, but in my old
- 50:14office we would have to wait. We'd get 2 truck runs or three
- 50:19truck runs and I'd be in there. I I like to go in and I do the
- 50:23least I have to in the office. I like to get in there and get
- 50:26out at the SNDCI, go in there. Sometimes this package sorting
- 50:32machine is still running, but it's not often and I can.
- 50:37I can be out of there in an hour, maybe an maybe an hour and
- 50:42a half and I'm out on the road. I don't want to be in there.
- 50:46It's nice to have everything ready, but it's massive and it's
- 50:50just I am I am super upset with the cuts because my root does
- 50:54not need to be caught and. They don't care.
- 50:57They don't care. No.
- 50:59And everybody every I was understanding with him when he
- 51:03came back at me with that, not my problem.
- 51:05I said OK, I understand. One of the other ladies in
- 51:08there, she, she told him it was complete bullshit.
- 51:13And everybody's, everybody, everybody in there that's
- 51:17getting caught is, is not wanting it.
- 51:20That's what I don't understand. They're not going to the
- 51:22offices, these smaller offices that are begging for the cuts.
- 51:27And they're, they're, they can't get back until eight, 9:00 at
- 51:30night. They're coming to the SNDC's
- 51:32where nobody wants it, nobody wants the cuts.
- 51:35Are all the routes in the SNDC government vehicles or are there
- 51:39still POV routes there? I know of one POV route, but I
- 51:44think it's highway contract. Other than that, it's just LOVS
- 51:49and the mattresses. OK.
- 51:53There's still room in there. There's still room for more
- 51:55routes in there. There's a lot.
- 51:58There's a lot of room for more routes.
- 52:01The trouble is the parking. In our situation, there's not
- 52:11much room anywhere unless they there's talk.
- 52:17There's actually a baseball local baseball stadium next door
- 52:21and they've talked about using that parking lot in the
- 52:25offseason, but in the summertime, I mean, they
- 52:29wouldn't be able to use it because it's busy over there,
- 52:33so. Sounds like, as usual, they
- 52:36didn't plan everything out before they made stuff happen.
- 52:40Yeah, I I did hear something about that.
- 52:44They bought a couple properties of places that are to be
- 52:48demolished to turn it into a parking lot.
- 52:51I also heard that out front of the post office where I haven't
- 52:57even drove out front because it's the way I come in, I come
- 53:00into the back. I guess there's like an area
- 53:04that has a lot of grass that they said they're going to turn
- 53:08into a parking lot, but I haven't seen any of that.
- 53:15What bothers me about this, this whole thing, is that if you're a
- 53:1948K, and I mean technically you know at at the 57.36 it and
- 53:25you're not going over your evaluation, I believe you should
- 53:29have the option to be able to stay at A48K.
- 53:34The old practice of the 48K and 40 sevens being overburdened has
- 53:39kind of gone out the door. But when you're talking about
- 53:42the 606572 and 84 hour routes, there is there.
- 53:47Therein lies the problem of, you know, being overburdened. 48 K
- 53:51and you're doing it under evaluation to me, does not
- 53:54constitute being overburdened. You know, that may be arguable,
- 53:59you know arguable as far as individual situations, but in in
- 54:04most general circumstances, if you're a 48K you're under
- 54:08evaluation, you should be allowed to elect and stay at the
- 54:1248. Ki agree, like I'm not
- 54:16overburdened, you know. And I know they're going to cut
- 54:21me say I'm a 48K, they're going to cut me down to a 43.
- 54:25Like the contract says, my roots going to go down to AJII think
- 54:30it may be a 40K but I when it comes down to A43K by May 18th
- 54:40is do you think it would be possible if I lose again and
- 54:44then I lose again because they cut it too much?
- 54:47Would I have any kind of grievance that they didn't cut
- 54:50it fairly because they didn't wait, you know, and see see two
- 54:58mini mail survey evaluations back-to-back that are in
- 55:03overburden status. I think that shows more true
- 55:07where it would be with the with two in a row, not just one right
- 55:13after the move. You know, I don't know.
- 55:17Prior to the move, what was your evaluation?
- 55:21Originally before the Rex, I was a 40K.
- 55:26When Rex first came in I turned into a 40J and then I went to
- 55:35A41K. With the move it turned my just
- 55:46with mileage and the traffic control points.
- 55:52I went up to A45K and then the survey with the move it upped me
- 55:59to A48K. So I've I've heard this before
- 56:03about SNDCS. How does how accessible is
- 56:08management has? How has your management changed
- 56:10things like that? My postmaster is actually he's
- 56:14been there since probably at least six months before the
- 56:19move. He went there to help set up and
- 56:21everything. I do see.
- 56:23We see a lot of management my my direct supervisor, he's honestly
- 56:28been good to me. Any everything that I've put in
- 56:32for vacation, for, for the union stuff for for state and National
- 56:37Convention, he's approved. There is quite a bit of Subs
- 56:42coming in and they are throwing them.
- 56:45They were throwing them around. A few have quit.
- 56:49Some are OK with it, but we do have a, we do have two stewards
- 56:55now we just it was about two weeks ago that we had a steward
- 56:59election and have a chief steward and another steward
- 57:03because there's over over 50 carriers in there.
- 57:07So they're doing good. Last week, the beginning of the
- 57:15week, I'm pretty sure the Steward put in five grievances
- 57:18and it was about the mapping because you know the issue that
- 57:22is everywhere management is doing the mapping without the
- 57:28carriers and I don't I I think they've already had that
- 57:33grievance and then they they continue to do it.
- 57:38But I don't know I I bug the management.
- 57:41I'm like when am I going to do my mapping And I don't a lot of
- 57:46other carriers don't do that. They they want the manager to
- 57:49come to them, which they should, but I bugged to make sure I can
- 57:54map so I stay on them. That you should.
- 57:59You do that end of shift. Yes, yes.
- 58:03OK. I forgot the.
- 58:06Facilitator that helps yet? Or do you do just do it with the
- 58:09management? My direct supervisor has helped
- 58:11me with it. The second time I mapped, I got
- 58:17in there. He wasn't there that day, had a
- 58:23floater management floater, I guess they call him.
- 58:26He signed me into it and I started working on it, started
- 58:30doing my plots and he had went and then he had to go home for
- 58:34the day and I wasn't done so it didn't.
- 58:36I I sat there for, I don't know, it was probably close to an hour
- 58:41redoing my plots because they were not right.
- 58:45And I went to save it or upload it, whatever it is.
- 58:51And that guy had left for the day and it needed to have his
- 58:55passcode put in. So all that it was pretty much
- 58:57wasted is nothing was saved. Oh, I got AI got a bug again to
- 59:03do my mapping. Well, actually, actually, once
- 59:07you've put them in there, even if you don't, even if you don't
- 59:10save, they should still be in there when you go back in to
- 59:13finally finalize it at the end. Oh, but what about the ones that
- 59:17I changed from vacant to active to active?
- 59:25Or the opposite? You think they would have still
- 59:28saved? They'll save, it's just not
- 59:31going to submit it. So if you go before the next
- 59:34round of mapping, if you can get in there to finish it to submit
- 59:38it, then instead of downloading it, you're just going to open it
- 59:44because downloading it would be any any changes through the edit
- 59:48book with AMS is where you want to download it.
- 59:51So you know the once a month. At the end of the month is when
- 59:54you want to hit you know have them download it.
- 59:56That way you've got all the new changes from the edit book
- 59:59submission for the beginning of the month.
- 1:00:01Now if you have to walk away and leave it and finish it at
- 1:00:04another day. You just would hit the open tab
- 1:00:08and not the and not redownload it because if you re download it
- 1:00:11it's going to wipe it out, but if you just open it, it'll come
- 1:00:14pop up with all the changes. OK.
- 1:00:17So your work was not wasted. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:00:21And I mean it was still an hour and a half of end of shift
- 1:00:25duties, you know the not not the chief steward, but the steward,
- 1:00:30the second steward that she's brand new.
- 1:00:33She hasn't even been to training yet.
- 1:00:34She is trying to be a mapping facilitator and she's great.
- 1:00:40I hope she gets to, but I heard that that's up to management
- 1:00:43whether they can allow you to do that or not.
- 1:00:48Yeah, it is I I was mapping facilitator as an RCA and since
- 1:00:54I became regular, she kind of took it away from me and is
- 1:00:57doing it herself unless it's mine.
- 1:00:59Then she just logs me in and I sit down and do my own.
- 1:01:03But. Which sucks.
- 1:01:05I mean, she could just easily just, you know, I could come in,
- 1:01:08get the route ready, go under AP code, and then be there when the
- 1:01:12carriers start coming back. You know, it's not of a deal.
- 1:01:16I don't understand that why I feel like there should be 1
- 1:01:20carrier that knows that could be facilitator.
- 1:01:24It's not. It shouldn't be management's
- 1:01:27choice whether there is one or not.
- 1:01:29There should be a carrier that you know.
- 1:01:32That's just how I feel, but. Oh, and I agree completely.
- 1:01:38You know, it doesn't hurt to have a carrier that knows the
- 1:01:40mapping system that can do it alongside the carriers because
- 1:01:45not all carriers trust management obviously.
- 1:01:47And I've heard some pretty swanky stuff going on.
- 1:01:50Even with carriers that are there with management to the
- 1:01:55point they don't even let them sit down next to them.
- 1:01:57They got to stand up behind them and you just kind of point where
- 1:02:00stuff goes instead of actually being able to get in there and
- 1:02:04see the map and and pinpoint it correctly.
- 1:02:07So no, I I completely agree that it doesn't hurt to have a
- 1:02:10carrier as a facilitator. Exactly.
- 1:02:14I've heard carriers tell me that management won't allow them to
- 1:02:19do it. They've only done still only to
- 1:02:21this day. They've only mapped once I push
- 1:02:24hard. So they usually it's not they
- 1:02:28give, they give me a date. OK, we're going to map.
- 1:02:32I'm going to map this week on Tuesday.
- 1:02:34It is. It's a lot of, there's 38
- 1:02:37carriers there. So when when our shop steward,
- 1:02:43our chief steward got that grievance, he did say he came
- 1:02:48back to me and he said, well, management said it's it's all
- 1:02:52settled. He's going to make a schedule of
- 1:02:57everybody's mapping times, which is good, so.
- 1:03:02Proactive supervisor. Yeah, I mean, he had to file the
- 1:03:08the grievance to do it, but he's pretty good.
- 1:03:10He's worked with me, you know, so far.
- 1:03:16He calls me a troublemaker, but. When you crowd.
- 1:03:21What? I don't like being called a
- 1:03:27troublemaker. I don't want to cause trouble.
- 1:03:29I just want things done right, you know?
- 1:03:33The problem of it is that if you don't call them on the carpet
- 1:03:36about this, you know then they'll just walk all over you
- 1:03:40and it's not a matter of being a troublemaker when you stand up
- 1:03:43for yourself and your rights. Yeah.
- 1:03:46That's being it's called, you know, an informed carrier.
- 1:03:50Yeah, I try. It's hard because every minute,
- 1:03:55I mean you guys, you guys help me out a lot, I'm telling you.
- 1:04:00But everything changes so much. One, one minute you're hurt.
- 1:04:04You hear one thing. You can ask two people in the
- 1:04:08same office 10 different questions and you'll get you'll
- 1:04:11get 100 different answers. You know it's.
- 1:04:16Opinions and assholes. We covered that in the very
- 1:04:21beginning. Yes.
- 1:04:23We did, yeah. It's just and and.
- 1:04:29Yeah, for for the record, I I'm not a perpetual troublemaker.
- 1:04:34I try to resolve things, you know, in the intelligent adult
- 1:04:39type manner. For most cases, yeah.
- 1:04:43When you push the buttons, then I become a formidable individual
- 1:04:47and and people just, they don't like my presence, you know, and
- 1:04:53I usually win my way. But the thing of it is, why do I
- 1:04:55have to go to that point? Why can't we talk about this,
- 1:04:59you know, and and resolve it, you know, amicably.
- 1:05:01But hey, you, you want to choose the fight, Maybe Bill's stepping
- 1:05:06up. I'm sure people in your office
- 1:05:12are super thankful for you. And scared.
- 1:05:21All you hear is, oh God, what's Bill going to do now?
- 1:05:26Yeah. How many rural routes do you
- 1:05:29have in the SNDC? 38.
- 1:05:36How do the SNDCS affect the union organization?
- 1:05:39Did any of your county units get completely moved into it?
- 1:05:43What? So did your with the moving into
- 1:05:49the SNDC, how did that affect like county units and things
- 1:05:52like that? Did they bring in outside from
- 1:05:54the single county or? Oh no, it's all it's all one
- 1:05:59county. OK.
- 1:06:01So it didn't affect, did it, Did it?
- 1:06:03Was it the entire county that moved in there or just parts of
- 1:06:05it? Not the entire county.
- 1:06:08There's still quite a few. I'm not sure I've heard some
- 1:06:13other offices are going to move in.
- 1:06:15I'm not sure if they're in the same county or not.
- 1:06:20This is in relation to the question there in the stage that
- 1:06:25you know you have to join the new county that you moved into.
- 1:06:29And according to state charters, you don't have to change your
- 1:06:33county just because of where you're located at.
- 1:06:36It's your delivery office that you're basically assigned to in
- 1:06:39regards to your county assignment also.
- 1:06:43Yes. Check your yes, check your state
- 1:06:45charter for that. Yeah, I hadn't heard that.
- 1:06:49Yeah, it should go by your zip code.
- 1:06:50Whatever. Your zip code is what county?
- 1:06:56All right. Thank you, Lynn.
- 1:06:58We appreciate you coming in with a little insight on the S&D CS.
- 1:07:02Yeah. Any more questions or no?
- 1:07:06Any more questions for Lynn guys?
- 1:07:08Do they have nice break rooms with ice and water machines?
- 1:07:12We do have a ice machine, refrigerator, a soda machine, a
- 1:07:18snack machine, no coffee machine yet.
- 1:07:21There's a sink. It's extremely hot.
- 1:07:27It's uncomfortably hot. That's part of why I get out of
- 1:07:29there quick, 'cause it's for me anyway.
- 1:07:33It's unbearably hot. Even the end of February it was
- 1:07:39hot like they have, I don't know where they have.
- 1:07:42It's a boiler system I guess. So they can't really.
- 1:07:47They say they can't. Regulate it.
- 1:07:50Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:07:52Thank you for that. Well we we have the we have the
- 1:07:57same problem in our office. When it gets hot in the office
- 1:07:59and the carriers go and prop open the the double swing doors
- 1:08:03which lets in more cool air which triggers the boiler to
- 1:08:06work more. It's like oaks, you're defeating
- 1:08:09the purpose here. You know, yeah.
- 1:08:14You guys have ample dock space. That was another question that
- 1:08:17popped up. The main dock that they've
- 1:08:20always used is busy, but we actually have to where we park
- 1:08:29our personal vehicles. It's a it's a completely
- 1:08:32different lot. There's a bunch of LOVS parked
- 1:08:35up there, so we have to push our conveyance just as far as to
- 1:08:41where our vehicles are parked. Out in the back parking lot, up
- 1:08:46a hill, out the door, out out some swinging doors.
- 1:08:49We push our conveyance right out in the parking lot you love.
- 1:08:54That in the winter. Yeah, Hopefully they plow well
- 1:08:59because we haven't had a we we got lucky we didn't get 4 feet
- 1:09:05of snow in March like we have like we did a couple years ago.
- 1:09:10I'm just going to say this if if there's snow on the on the
- 1:09:14pavement, 1767 unsafe to to haul equipment out to my vehicle with
- 1:09:20that much snow on the ground or ice or anything like that.
- 1:09:26Yeah, and it it took quite a while to be pushing.
- 1:09:29You got when we got heavy, heavy packages and stuff, it's quite a
- 1:09:35lot. It's quite a hill up the up the
- 1:09:37ramp to be pushing that stuff. But I'm I'm getting.
- 1:09:41I'm used to it now. It's a workout.
- 1:09:49Alright guys, go. Ahead a lot of the carriers, A
- 1:09:54lot of carriers don't. I I don't even want to say this
- 1:09:58because it's sad, but a lot of carriers don't even want to MIP.
- 1:10:03I'm like it's once a month. This is your pay, you know you
- 1:10:08should do it. It's what they they just want to
- 1:10:11get in in the afternoon and they want to go home.
- 1:10:13So I don't know what to what to do about that.
- 1:10:19There's carriers that come in early still different towns come
- 1:10:25in early. I I won't touch anything until I
- 1:10:29clock in at 8:00 when I'm supposed to, you know.
- 1:10:32You you know you can file a grievance on management allowing
- 1:10:35that, right? I.
- 1:10:39She's not a troublemaker member. Yeah.
- 1:10:44True, but it does affect you in the long run.
- 1:10:47It doesn't affect I I I don't like it.
- 1:10:52I mean the the travel distance to the vehicles to drive to
- 1:10:55carry your conveyance out there. I file agreements on that and
- 1:10:58give us a place close to the building that we can load our
- 1:11:00vehicles that is sheltered to protect the mail.
- 1:11:05Yeah, there's there's a it's. All about you, James.
- 1:11:12OK. There's no way there's not
- 1:11:15enough room down, but it's it's really not that bad.
- 1:11:21I try to see the positive, but I I don't know.
- 1:11:26It's not it's not as awful as I thought it would be.
- 1:11:34Other than getting caught. The drive on the highway is
- 1:11:39pretty scary. You take an LLV on the highway.
- 1:11:43Yeah, we are. Braver than I am.
- 1:11:48A lot of us, a lot of us have highway driving.
- 1:11:55My mind is going blank. I'm like, I have, I have very
- 1:12:03anxiety about public speaking. You know, I was president of the
- 1:12:07county for three years and I can handle, like, you know, the
- 1:12:13local meetings now and have a pretty big voice and can handle
- 1:12:18that. But knowing that, who knows how
- 1:12:22many people are going to be listening to me talk, I'm, I'm,
- 1:12:25I judge myself, I I don't even know if I'll be able to listen
- 1:12:30to this episode with myself and listen to myself talk.
- 1:12:33I'm like. You're doing fine.
- 1:12:37You're only talking to 21 people right now.
- 1:12:39That's all you're talking to. There's 21 people.
- 1:12:42Yeah, I'm good. At the county meeting for some
- 1:12:44places. Yeah, that's pretty let's.
- 1:12:48And then the other the other 3000.
- 1:12:50Yeah, the other 3000 are gonna listen to you this week.
- 1:12:53Yikes. And then we're gonna throw her
- 1:12:59up on the big stage at National. Yeah.
- 1:13:07Yeah, that's a little intimidating if you're not used
- 1:13:09to it, trust me. Oh, I'm scared.
- 1:13:13I haven't. I haven't stood up at State yet
- 1:13:16because that scares me. But I will this year I and maybe
- 1:13:21it'll be. I mean, I shouldn't say, maybe I
- 1:13:24should say it will be the same year that I stand up and talk at
- 1:13:28State. That I stand up and talk at
- 1:13:30National because I got you, Kristen.
- 1:13:38She's my roommate for National too, So.
- 1:13:42It's just about talking to other carriers, that's all.
- 1:13:46But nobody better, Nobody worse. Yeah, that's all it is.
- 1:13:52All right, guys. We're going to wind this down
- 1:13:54tonight. Thank you, Lynn, for joining us
- 1:13:56and giving us a little heads up on an SNDC experience.
- 1:14:00We appreciate it. Yeah, you're welcome.
- 1:14:03I appreciate it too. Thanks for letting me talk and
- 1:14:07I'll talk to you guys again sometime.
- 1:14:10Definitely. I hope I did OK.
- 1:14:13You did fine. We'll let our listeners.
- 1:14:18We'll let our listeners decide and they can post it in the
- 1:14:20comments and Kristen will share them with you.
- 1:14:23OK, Sounds. Good.
- 1:14:28Thank you, guys. All right.
- 1:14:30James, any final commentary for tonight?
- 1:14:35A lot, but I'll, I'll try to make it short.
- 1:14:39You know we do these for the craft because we actually
- 1:14:45believe in the craft and are the craft as well.
- 1:14:49We do the same job everybody that listens to us does on the
- 1:14:52floor. We're regular carriers just like
- 1:14:55everybody else, and to see things going the way they are
- 1:15:03and the change that we want to make to make it better for
- 1:15:06everybody in the craft is the whole reason we're here every
- 1:15:11week. We're here because of the craft,
- 1:15:14for the craft. And even if you're just starting
- 1:15:21out or you've got 30 years of experience, you've got 15 years
- 1:15:26as an RCA. Whatever your case is, you are
- 1:15:30our brother and sister, whichever you are.
- 1:15:36Because at the end of the day, no matter what, we're all in
- 1:15:40this together, Bill. Well, like I said, we do this
- 1:15:47for the craft. And even my wife begrudgingly
- 1:15:51has put off her Mother's Day massage for an hour and a half.
- 1:15:56That's the only reason we're here, you know that.
- 1:15:58To help educate, listen. You know, that's the one thing
- 1:16:02we do better than the National Board.
- 1:16:04We'd listen to you. We we appreciate your input.
- 1:16:08We try to address your concerns. But we listen because we're in
- 1:16:13the same boat as you are. And who better to represent you
- 1:16:17than people who are on the ground with you every day?
- 1:16:21Instead of these politicians who were just trying to pad their
- 1:16:24retirement and giving you his ass platitudes in regards to,
- 1:16:31oh, I represent you. I have your interests at heart.
- 1:16:34No, you don't. Not even close.
- 1:16:39We don't have to do this. We're compelled to do this.
- 1:16:43I I sometimes think we're crazy for doing it, but that's OK.
- 1:16:47I I've got a good group of crazies with me and I I wouldn't
- 1:16:52go anywhere in the battle without them.
- 1:16:54And I wouldn't go into this battle National Convention
- 1:16:58without everybody who's listening and who contributes to
- 1:17:02our podcast, to to the questions, the listener chat and
- 1:17:06everything else. This is all about you and we're
- 1:17:10part of you. I'll never forget that.
- 1:17:15And if I get one more comment about the pink thong, I'm going
- 1:17:17to be handing them out at the National Convention.
- 1:17:23I will be screen printed bill for President.
- 1:17:28Yes, right across the back strip.
- 1:17:35Everybody go out and have a good week.
- 1:17:37Be safe, be efficient, be professional and make sure that
- 1:17:41you get the most important delivery done on time.
- 1:17:44At the end of the day, get yourself home to your loved
- 1:17:47ones. Be safe.
- 1:17:48God bless you all. Thank you guys.
- 1:17:52And again, yes, yes, thank you guys and a good thank you out to
- 1:17:57Lynn for joining us. And yeah, it this is definitely
- 1:18:02about you guys. We wouldn't be doing what we do
- 1:18:06if it wasn't for the entire the the carriers of the craft.
- 1:18:09We wouldn't be stepping up and running for national offices if
- 1:18:13it wasn't for caring so much about every single one of you
- 1:18:19out there and every single person within the craft that is
- 1:18:23working every day and pushing through the good and the bad
- 1:18:30right alongside everybody. And that's, you know, that's
- 1:18:33what we're here for. We're here for the entire craft
- 1:18:35as a whole and we want everybody to stay safe this week and we
- 1:18:40will be back next week. Don't bring me 190.
- 1:19:04I want I I don't want to get intimate with the cactus.
