- 0:02Hello and welcome to He's hot, but something's off.
- 0:07Something that is off and it's definitely not hot is my
- 0:13podcasting equipment. I started podcasting, I think it
- 0:18was 20, I can't remember 2022 or 23.
- 0:23It was like end of 22, early 23, something like that that I
- 0:27started podcasting and when I decided to do it, I thought, OK,
- 0:36maybe this will last, I don't know, a couple of months.
- 0:41There are a lot of people who have tried to do a podcast,
- 0:45YouTube, There are a lot of you. No, I'm not trying to be shady,
- 0:48but this is probably going to be, this is probably technically
- 0:51shade, but there are a lot of YouTube channels out there where
- 0:54someone had the idea, oh, I'm going to start a YouTube
- 0:57channel. I'm going to be a YouTube.
- 0:58I'm going to start making videos and they'll create a YouTube
- 1:02account. They'll start doing it.
- 1:04They make 5101520 videos. They do it for a couple weeks,
- 1:10maybe a few months, and then it becomes dead and becomes a ghost
- 1:14town and there's not been any updates.
- 1:17And I'm not seeing that to shape the people where it's better to
- 1:20like just try it, you know, you try something, make a few
- 1:23videos. If you feel like it's not your
- 1:25thing, you just stop. I've given up on tons of stuff.
- 1:28It's fine. You know, just just give it the
- 1:30old school try, right? The old college try.
- 1:33But anyways, when I decided to try podcasting, I didn't want to
- 1:38invest a lot of money into it. I just, I don't know if I was
- 1:43just going to do it for like a few weeks and I get bored or I
- 1:46don't like it or whatever, and that would just stop.
- 1:49So I think it was like end of 22, early 23 that I started and
- 1:53now I do three podcasts a week and we're now solidly into 2026.
- 2:00Because I didn't want to invest a lot of money when I started, I
- 2:02decided to get some used equipment.
- 2:05I went on the Bay of E as you do, and I got a couple of
- 2:10microphones. If you're watching the video
- 2:11version of this podcast always available on my YouTube channel,
- 2:15just Joey T you see, I've got this nice professional looking
- 2:20mic and I also have two of these.
- 2:24So I bought two of these because there is this podcast recorder
- 2:31mixer piece of equipment that I wanted, but a new one is going
- 2:35to be like like 350 bucks or something like that.
- 2:38So someone was selling this podcast recorder mixer thing
- 2:44that I wanted use one obviously. And they also had two of these
- 2:49mics, the mic that I'm speaking into right now.
- 2:53And I thought, OK, that's perfect because those are those
- 2:57are that that's the exact setup that I wanted.
- 2:59I wanted two of these specific mics and I wanted this specific
- 3:03podcast mixer recorder. So he was selling at like a
- 3:08pretty good price. Sometimes something is too good
- 3:12to be true. It wasn't quite too good to be
- 3:14true level pricing, but it was like cheap, a little bit cheaper
- 3:18than what everyone else was selling that equipment for.
- 3:21And most people were not selling mics with the recorder.
- 3:24But anyways, I got it. It was like, I don't know, like
- 3:28a couple 100 bucks. It was like 200 something
- 3:30dollars, I think that I paid for it.
- 3:32When the package arrived, the recorder was in its own box, but
- 3:38there's no padding inside. So imagine this like corporate
- 3:41box, this rectangular corporate box, and it's got this
- 3:44electronic piece of equipment in it.
- 3:46And it was just like, it was no padding inside.
- 3:48And it was just like rallying around.
- 3:50I was like, Oh my God, an idiot sold these and also an idiot
- 3:55bought them. This idiot just like didn't put
- 3:58any padding into it. I was like, this is so annoying.
- 4:01But when I connected everybody, when I connected everything up,
- 4:05it seemed like everything was working fine.
- 4:08So it seemed like it survived the trip across the country
- 4:14without any sort of without proper packaging.
- 4:17So start using it and things were fine.
- 4:20And it's the setup that I've been using for I don't know how
- 4:23many years now. However, I recently did a pod.
- 4:26May I do a tell you guys? I do multiple podcasts a week.
- 4:30But on a very recent podcast that I did on a recording, as I
- 4:33was editing it, I noticed that there were these tiny little
- 4:37clicks. They're very, very subtle.
- 4:39You may or may not be able to hear them.
- 4:41You know, it depends on maybe like the type of headphones or
- 4:43speakers that you're listening to.
- 4:46But when I'm editing them, I don't use headphones to edit.
- 4:49I have some speakers for my computer that I edit at my
- 4:53desktop computer and that's how I monitor the audio that I'm
- 4:58editing. And on those speakers, it's not
- 5:01super apparent the clicks. So it, it, it went up and it was
- 5:06fine. I was listening back to it on my
- 5:10headphones. So it's like then I noticed the
- 5:12clicks on the headphones. I think it's a little more
- 5:13apparent out of that same footage, I was editing a
- 5:16separate video. Once in a great while I record
- 5:19something and I can get multiple videos or pieces of final
- 5:24content out of it. So I was going back in and I was
- 5:26going to do like this second separate edit to do like another
- 5:30video for like a slightly different purpose.
- 5:32And I was editing the raw footage again, basically, and I
- 5:36heard more and more of these tiny little clicks.
- 5:39This equipment never used to do that.
- 5:41So like, something is going wrong.
- 5:44Something isn't so hot anymore. So I did a bunch of
- 5:47troubleshooting. I got a new power supply for the
- 5:51podcast recorder that's sitting in front of me right now because
- 5:55power supplies, you know, those power brakes that comes with
- 5:58certain pieces of equipment, certain, you know, electrical
- 6:01equipment or computer equipment, you'll get this power brake.
- 6:04So one end you plug into the equipment, the other end you
- 6:05plug into the wall. Those sometimes, well, quite
- 6:08often those who fail, those don't last that long.
- 6:11I've got a little server at home with like hard drives and stuff
- 6:14in it, same kind of like brick type of a power supply that
- 6:19failed. I just you just get a new one
- 6:21and then life goes on. So I've got a new power supply
- 6:24for this podcast recorder. If the power supply doesn't fix
- 6:28it, I have to get a new recorder and that is the most expensive
- 6:33piece of equipment. This model, this recorder that
- 6:35I've been recording, I've recorded, I've had good memories
- 6:38with this recorder. I don't really have any
- 6:39sentimental attachment to it. It it's like just a piece of
- 6:43technology, just a tool really. But it's actually a really nice
- 6:47one. I've gotten so used to it.
- 6:48I really like the controls and the features and like the way it
- 6:52works. I don't really need anything
- 6:53more. They don't sell this model
- 6:55anymore because it's like a 5 year old model and like in the
- 6:58computer electronics role, anything that's five years old
- 7:00is like ancient. So when I go edit this podcast
- 7:03that I'm recording right now, and if those little ticks are
- 7:07there and I feared the ticks are getting worse because I did a
- 7:10test on it on this equipment a couple of days ago, the ticks
- 7:14are possibly going to get worse over time.
- 7:17They develop utter nowhere. So they're likely going to get
- 7:19worse. What I'm saying is please give
- 7:22me some money. If the power supply fixes it,
- 7:26then we're good. The power supplies, you know,
- 7:29they do fail eventually and usually before they fail
- 7:33sometimes depending on, especially with audio equipment,
- 7:36if the power supply isn't 100%, you get these little errors or
- 7:40like these little things you can hear in the recording.
- 7:43So hopefully just a power supply.
- 7:45I don't know. If it's not the power supply,
- 7:47you all better start donating some money because if I need to
- 7:52replace the recorder, it's going to be like 250, three, $100.
- 7:57There are cheaper ways I can I don't have to have a mixer style
- 8:02recorder for the podcast. I could get a USB mic.
- 8:06So a USB mic is going to be a little cheaper and it's got a
- 8:09USB port on the back of the mic. I can plug it directly into my
- 8:11computer, but that means I can't do two person podcasts anymore.
- 8:17And I I rarely do that. I used to pull David onto the
- 8:20podcast, like way, way, way back.
- 8:22I did have an idea to do like some interview style things
- 8:25going forward, but like, you know, it hasn't materialized.
- 8:28I would like to have a recorder that has at least a couple of
- 8:32mic inputs. So if I ever did like in person
- 8:34interviews, then I have that option.
- 8:37So having like a dedicated recorder mixer for the podcast
- 8:40is still nice. And, you know, like the intro
- 8:43music is loaded in there. So just like I press a button
- 8:45and like it's weave directly into the audio.
- 8:47I've got sliders on this recorder.
- 8:49So I fade out the music. And I mean, yeah.
- 8:52Anyways, there are a few ways we can do it, but hopefully the
- 8:55power supply fixes it. I'll let all of you know when
- 8:58this podcast goes up. But so once I edit this podcast,
- 9:00I'll know if you all need to start paying for this podcast or
- 9:06not. I don't really like asking
- 9:08people for money because I feel like I'm supposed to be able to
- 9:13provide myself whatever I need or want.
- 9:17However, I have provided many of you this podcast for free.
- 9:23So to ask for some of you a little bit of money to keep the
- 9:30podcast going. I don't think it's, I don't
- 9:32think it's so outrageous. You know, I'm not necessarily
- 9:35asking for a handout. Go to my Patreon.
- 9:37I find my Patreon up for quite a while now.
- 9:39For $3 a month, you get the extra episode that I do just for
- 9:45Patreon subscribers. We call it uncut and it comes
- 9:48out every weekend. So the past uncut episode was a
- 9:52snippet of the live stream that I do for my top tier Patreons.
- 9:56I call them my Opas because they get a live stream every month
- 10:00with me and there's like a live chat and they get to like ask me
- 10:03questions to interact with me in real time.
- 10:06So that's always a lot of fun. We just had it this past
- 10:08weekend, and on the weekends where I do have the live
- 10:10streams, I'll take a small snippet, like 20 minutes of it,
- 10:14something like that, and then I will make it the uncut episode
- 10:17for that particular week. Otherwise, I just record another
- 10:21episode. And the uncut are the ones where
- 10:23if I got something a little more juicy, a little more personal, I
- 10:27save it for my Patreon subscribers because they're
- 10:30helping to pay the bills and I'm going to give them the juicier
- 10:34content. Like, look, when you're getting
- 10:36something for free, you have to temper your expectations.
- 10:40Question reminds me, I I use a third party keyboard on my
- 10:44iPhone. I don't really like the built in
- 10:47Apple keyboard. So I've got a third party one.
- 10:50It's called Swift keys and they've existed for a very long
- 10:54time, but a number of years ago Microsoft bought them out.
- 11:01So it's like a Microsoft own thing.
- 11:03And just literally this week, every time the keyboard pops up
- 11:06on my phone, there's like a little effectively
- 11:10advertisement. It's supposed to be a
- 11:12notification, but it's effectively like pushing
- 11:14something. It's saying, oh, now it's hooked
- 11:17into Microsoft OneDrive. Today it wasn't as bad, but like
- 11:23the last couple of days, that little notification.
- 11:26Imagine every time the keyboard or your phone pops up, you get
- 11:29this little bright blue notification.
- 11:32That's why hey, please use this thing that you don't want to
- 11:35use. But like every time the keyboard
- 11:37popped up, so like in the span of like a minute it popped up
- 11:40like 5 times. How annoying is that?
- 11:43I'm so over Microsoft because like I've got one Windows
- 11:46machine that I use for like some extra side things on my
- 11:49computer. It keeps wanting you to like use
- 11:53more Microsoft stuff. Like every few months it'll be
- 11:56like, Are you sure you don't want to sign into your Microsoft
- 11:58account? And then they're like ads in the
- 12:01there's ads on the lock screen. There are ads in the start menu.
- 12:04There's like ads in the notifications that pops up.
- 12:06It's so there's so many ads in Microsoft Windows.
- 12:10It's like I, I purchased it already.
- 12:13I bought the computer. I bought a license for Windows.
- 12:15Why are you serving me more ads? When you pay for something your
- 12:19expectations of like the service is different.
- 12:22I listen to lots of podcasts for free.
- 12:25A lot of podcasts out there. It's like vast majority of
- 12:26podcasts out there are for free and a lot of them, they have ads
- 12:30that have ads at the start, like several ad breaks in the middle
- 12:34and then they have like more ads in the back.
- 12:36I'm OK with that. Like I'm listening to it for
- 12:38free. Content creators need to be paid
- 12:41for their work. Because I've talked about this,
- 12:43you know, content creators paying them, supporting the
- 12:45blah, blah, blah. And I'm perfectly fine with
- 12:47them. Do I skip over them?
- 12:49Yes, it's your choice to skip over the ads.
- 12:52OK, that's fine. But like, you can't you can't
- 12:55get mad at content creators giving you free content with ads
- 12:59in it. But like this keyboard thing?
- 13:03Yes. Am I using the keyboard for
- 13:04free? Yes.
- 13:05But the the fact that it's popping, I don't know when it's
- 13:07like an an app or when it's like a keyboard.
- 13:10Like a keyboard is like a special app, right?
- 13:12You have regular, I use Grinder, for example.
- 13:14A grinder has so many ads in there right now.
- 13:16I've vented about this one. So we're not going to go down
- 13:18there again. Any one of you that use the free
- 13:20version of Grinder knows how many ads there are.
- 13:24We don't need to, we don't need to explore that.
- 13:26But when it's like the keyboard on your phone popping it up, you
- 13:30know what though? It's because it's a Microsoft
- 13:32owned company. It's like a Microsoft keyboard
- 13:36basically. If it was some other company
- 13:38like the, the advertising and notifications in it wouldn't be
- 13:42so atrocious. So part of this is it's a
- 13:45Microsoft problem. I know a lot of you use
- 13:48Microsoft Windows because most people use Windows, but if you
- 13:51ever are in the market to like have to replace your computer,
- 13:56old computer is like 5 or 6 or seven years old.
- 13:59Maybe it's got some wear and tear, maybe it breaks or like
- 14:02it's too slow for what you need it for.
- 14:04Now your needs change and you have, you've been using Windows
- 14:08for the whole existence of your life and it's time to get like a
- 14:12new computer. Unless you know you need
- 14:15Windows. Could I just have you please,
- 14:17like look into something, Just look into something, even if you
- 14:20don't end up buying something different because you, all of
- 14:23you using Windows, must also notice the atrocious amount of
- 14:26ads. If you only use Windows, you
- 14:28might be used to the ads and notifications from Microsoft
- 14:30pushing you to use more of their stuff and pay more money to
- 14:32them. You know, on an Apple machine,
- 14:34you don't get that. I've used Macs as my main
- 14:37machine for like over a decade. I have multiple Macs.
- 14:40I have a Mac laptop right here. I've got my Mac desktop and
- 14:45Apple doesn't give me notifications about hey use more
- 14:49Apple stuff the way Microsoft does.
- 14:51Like when I go launch a program on my Mac, there's not some
- 14:54random ad for like some other Apple service.
- 14:56Like when I go to the start menu on my Windows machine, there's
- 14:59like an app for some Microsoft thing.
- 15:01It's not like that. Microsoft's just horrible.
- 15:03Also Microsoft's like security internally is not as good as
- 15:06Apple or Google. And I worked at Google, so I
- 15:09even know. So the amount of security
- 15:12breaches Microsoft has had versus its competitors, it's
- 15:16like just not on the same level. Anyways, I didn't mean this mean
- 15:19for this to be a Microsoft rant, but it is what it is.
- 15:23Any ways, I do have more consumer advice for you today.
- 15:27I've already given you consumer advice about not supporting
- 15:30Microsoft stuff so much. I have been, I think I have to
- 15:35call this an addiction now. If you're watching the YouTube
- 15:39version, if you're watching the video version of this, I have in
- 15:41my hand these snacks that I have been unable to keep myself away
- 15:49from. This is not a sponsored product
- 15:52placement. But if Trader Joe's is willing,
- 15:55I will take money. If you give him money, I will
- 15:59take it. Now, I'm not too proud to beg.
- 16:01OK, These are the Trader Joe's Hold the cone tips, waffle cone
- 16:09tips filled with dark chocolate. I've talked about my IBS and my
- 16:13Siebel before and I'm starting to recover from my Siebel.
- 16:19Maybe it won't ever be like 100%, but you know, I'll take
- 16:22any improvement that I can get as as a power bottom.
- 16:26I will take any improvement I can get from IBS.
- 16:28Sometimes as a gay man, I feel like the community expects
- 16:32bottoms to like never, as the bottoms can't ever have
- 16:38digestive issues. There's this expectation that
- 16:41bottoms have to be squeaky clean 100% of the time.
- 16:45And I feel like mentally from a bottoms point of view, there's a
- 16:50lot of pressure for bottoms, I think to always be squeaky
- 16:54clean. And we have this fear, anxiety
- 16:57about like, oh, what if one time I do it and it's not squeaky
- 17:01clean And it's like there's whatever.
- 17:03There's this fear of like something going like not not
- 17:08South, but to be held to this level of like 100% of the time.
- 17:13Every single time you're going to be like completely,
- 17:16absolutely white glove operating room spotless.
- 17:20That's like an impossible. That's that's like perfection
- 17:24and like it. It's not going to be like it's
- 17:26an asshole, Like shit comes out of it.
- 17:28So you can't ever expect that. ANYWAYS, back to this.
- 17:36I was supposed to be talking about these snacks, not about
- 17:38how clean a bottoms. We're having fun today, folks.
- 17:43But anyways, again, these are the Trader Joe's hold the cone
- 17:47tips, waffle cone tips filled with dark chocolate.
- 17:50So the way it's connected to my IBS is because as I work on
- 17:56improving my digestive system, I'm starting to be able to eat
- 18:01more and more things. So there was for a good period
- 18:05of time, I kind of had to eat a very, very bland, very limited
- 18:09diet. It's also known as the load
- 18:11FODMAP diet. Google it if you would like.
- 18:15But as I was going through treatment for the SIBO, part of
- 18:20it is I had to temporarily be on this like super, super
- 18:23restrictive, very limited diet. But now that I'm making some
- 18:28progress, I'm able to slowly introduce more foods back into
- 18:34my diet. And with that, I'm allowed to
- 18:38have things that are a little bit more like a snack, something
- 18:42that's not like super, super healthy.
- 18:45I'm allowed to have some things that are a bit of an indulgence.
- 18:48And this is one of the indulgences, one of the types of
- 18:52junk food, if you will, snack that I found it.
- 18:55It's not just delicious, it's also like it doesn't have too
- 18:58many problematic ingredients for where I'm at with my current
- 19:02IBS. So it's literally what it says
- 19:05on a tin. So imagine a waffle cone but
- 19:08just the tip of it like the last, you know, inch, inch, and
- 19:121/2 of a waffle cone. Take that and imagine it's
- 19:16filled with dark chocolate inside.
- 19:18So I'm not a huge fan of dark chocolate.
- 19:22I'd never have been. You know, they say like dark
- 19:25chocolate is kind of good for you, but if you go buy a dark
- 19:28chocolate bar, like that's not something I would ever do.
- 19:31But I've had these for probably a few months now and I'm like
- 19:36addicted to them. So one box, I don't know how
- 19:39many is in it. That one box is 100 grams or 3
- 19:411/2 oz 1 box probably has about, I don't know, 15 or so of these
- 19:47cone tips in them in two sittings.
- 19:49I will go through the whole thing and I have to like stop
- 19:52myself eating it halfway through.
- 19:54So I'll probably have like 7 or eight of these in a sitting and
- 19:58I'll eat it like a dessert. So at the end of my meals, I'll
- 20:01like have some, but I basically go through two boxes in three
- 20:07days. It's it's probably like
- 20:10sometimes it would be like a box a day.
- 20:12So these are kind of addictive. So if you would like to see what
- 20:16I'm snacking on. This is what I've been stacking
- 20:20on. I used to snack on potato chips,
- 20:22but like regular non flavoured, just salted potato chips because
- 20:26that's oil, potato chips, salt, there's not that much in it.
- 20:30It's very simple ingredients list and that is very like IBS
- 20:33friendly. But these don't, these are OK.
- 20:35These are wheat flour, sugar, coconut oil, water.
- 20:39There's not that many. The sugar not obviously there's
- 20:42not that many ingredients. So this has been very compatible
- 20:45with my IBS, but also they're just so delicious.
- 20:48So yeah, something I'm trying and I'm also able to eat like a
- 20:53Caesar salad now, which is, which I don't think I was able
- 20:58to do before. I have, I shop at Trader Joe's a
- 21:00lot. So I've got this vegan Caesar
- 21:04salad dressing from Trader Joe's.
- 21:06It's in the it's where all the prepackaged salad vegetables
- 21:11are. I wasn't especially looking for
- 21:13it to be vegan, but I want to make sure it was dairy free so
- 21:16that I don't break out. But it's it's pretty good.
- 21:19I don't have any croutons though.
- 21:21So I have vegan what? What's the kind of cheese that's
- 21:24in Caesar salads? Is it Parmesan, mozzarella,
- 21:29whatever it is I got, I get the vegan version of that cheese.
- 21:33I know which which I know it's not cheese.
- 21:35OK, but like I don't want to break out.
- 21:37I still have this pimple. That's why between my eyebrows,
- 21:41if you're watching the video version, it's still a little red
- 21:43because I'm recovering from eating a lot of dairy from the
- 21:46cruise that I got off of three weeks ago.
- 21:49I'm still paying the price for that.
- 21:51OK, But I get this vegan cheese from Trader Joe's that's like
- 21:56all shredded. And then I get just like the
- 21:58regular romaine lettuce that's already like in the packaging
- 22:01and it's already all like shredded up.
- 22:04And then I have this vegan Caesar salad dressing.
- 22:07I don't have croutons in it. I love croutons.
- 22:09But The thing is I haven't been able to find any croutons that
- 22:12doesn't have a bunch of seasoning in it.
- 22:13And I feel like the seasoning might be problematic, but I
- 22:16think maybe one day I can just try some of the standard store
- 22:21bought croutons because I think maybe my gut can handle it now.
- 22:25Yeah, but I'm able to eat Caesar salads now, which doesn't sound
- 22:28like a major thing, but like given how limited my diet was
- 22:31before, it's kind of a big deal. I can have, it's a broccoli now.
- 22:36So that's like a newer thing. So I'm happy with how my gut is
- 22:41progressing. Given like SIBO was kind of like
- 22:45it's actually it's like it's like the worst thing honestly,
- 22:47if you think about it. I do only fans.
- 22:49And then I picked up SIBO and then I'm a bottom.
- 22:52So it's like, if you're going to have digestive issues like that,
- 22:57being a bottom is like not good for that.
- 23:00And then doing only fans, it's like, why are you like what?
- 23:04This is like the worst combination, but here I am.
- 23:07So there you go. I really love these.
- 23:09A few days ago, or was it last week, I ate an entire box in one
- 23:14sitting. So I ate like 15 or 16 of these
- 23:16just in like 1 go. I was having a bit of like a
- 23:19weird, not the best week last week.
- 23:22So I just like, you know what if I get I'm just going to have a
- 23:24whole box, but usually I cut myself off at like 7 or 8.
- 23:28I only let myself have half a box in one sitting.
- 23:30So there you go. All right, that will that will
- 23:32do it for today. I'm now going to edit this.
- 23:37And if the little clicks have gone away, that means it's just
- 23:41a new power supply, which I already have bought.
- 23:44And then it's only 20 bucks. And then you, all of you, can
- 23:48keep a little bit of your money in your wallet.
- 23:52If the ticks are still there. Bitch, better have my money.
- 23:57OK? Until next time, bye y'all.
