- 0:13Speaker 1: Hi, Welcome to inside the Mom's Club, where being a
- 0:16Speaker 1: mom is the coolest place to be. Here in the
- 0:19Speaker 1: Mom's Club, we believe that what embarrasses you now will
- 0:23Speaker 1: make a great story later. And let's face it, you
- 0:26Speaker 1: don't laugh sometimes you're gonna cry. Join us in having
- 0:30Speaker 1: a good laugh together. I'm Monica Samuels. You are now
- 0:35Speaker 1: inside the Mom's Club, your private destination for all things mom. Okay,
- 0:43Speaker 1: welcome moms. Welcome to inside the Mom's Club. I'm your host,
- 0:46Speaker 1: Monica Samuels, and I'm here with my cost Julie Orchid.
- 0:50Speaker 2: Well, hey, Monica, this is a different look today.
- 0:53Speaker 3: It is.
- 0:54Speaker 1: I found these great legs. I'm always looking for my
- 0:57Speaker 1: shop like crazy. I'll buy it pretty much anything. As
- 1:00Speaker 1: evidence by that the fact I'm wearing these I found
- 1:02Speaker 1: these gray glasses because for those in podcast world, I'm
- 1:06Speaker 1: wearing glasses that around the rim says bless your heart.
- 1:09Speaker 2: Now I have a different definition of what that means.
- 1:12Speaker 2: But why are you wearing bless your heart glasses today?
- 1:16Speaker 4: Okay? This is how you use them. I figured it out.
- 1:18Speaker 1: Okay, Okay, so as we all know, for those who
- 1:20Speaker 1: are not from the South, bless your heart means well. Okay,
- 1:25Speaker 1: So my mother sometimes when I'm not feeling well.
- 1:28Speaker 4: So she'll say bless your heart. She does not mean that.
- 1:35Speaker 1: In the South though, there's another way to say it,
- 1:38Speaker 1: which is well, bless your heart, which is not nice.
- 1:44Speaker 2: So I don't think I can say it on the
- 1:46Speaker 2: She's glass.
- 1:47Speaker 4: This is the great thing.
- 1:47Speaker 1: So so, for example, yesterday I had a very belligerent,
- 1:51Speaker 1: arrogant TSA officer who was giving me a hard time
- 1:55Speaker 1: because I just tried to push my bin because it
- 1:58Speaker 1: wasn't moving, and he wheeled around. It told me that
- 2:00Speaker 1: just because I'm pre checked does not mean I'm entitled.
- 2:03Speaker 1: Whatever that means my complaint to the complate department at TSA.
- 2:08Speaker 1: We'll determine what that really means.
- 2:10Speaker 2: Right it.
- 2:11Speaker 1: Had I had my glasses handy, you could have just
- 2:13Speaker 1: got because you can't say anything to these people, right,
- 2:15Speaker 1: so I could have just said.
- 2:19Speaker 2: Exactly. I think it would have gotten the message.
- 2:21Speaker 1: You think, you know anytime you feel like saying it,
- 2:23Speaker 1: but you know that that wouldn't be a good idea.
- 2:26Speaker 2: I think it's great. I think most people would get
- 2:28Speaker 2: the message.
- 2:30Speaker 4: Well, we have.
- 2:31Speaker 5: Had a little bit of time off and now we're
- 2:33Speaker 5: back we're back in La filming our podcast. We're super
- 2:36Speaker 5: excited to be here. But I have to say getting
- 2:39Speaker 5: back into it, the whole thing of flying again yesterday
- 2:42Speaker 5: and coming and doing all this, like people that barge
- 2:45Speaker 5: all the way from the back to the front to
- 2:48Speaker 5: get off first, and they're taking your head off with
- 2:50Speaker 5: oh here, all.
- 2:51Speaker 4: You need is you bless your heart, the glasses to.
- 2:57Speaker 3: You.
- 2:57Speaker 4: Thanks, very fashionable.
- 2:59Speaker 2: All right, back into it has been a you know, well, Tony.
- 3:04Speaker 1: When I when I look at this, so bless your heart.
- 3:06Speaker 1: That that just started me? Can me think about so
- 3:08Speaker 1: they had so I did some tiktoks and you did
- 3:10Speaker 1: them with me. Actually where we the word demure has
- 3:14Speaker 1: been a like popular thing and somebody told me, oh,
- 3:20Speaker 1: you know what, demure is a bad thing.
- 3:23Speaker 4: It's not a good thing, which really, well.
- 3:25Speaker 2: It's kind of setting us back late is back a
- 3:28Speaker 2: little bit.
- 3:28Speaker 4: I think if so he's like, oh, you don't want
- 3:30Speaker 4: to be demure.
- 3:31Speaker 2: Now it's a play on words. It's been a fun
- 3:33Speaker 2: week doing it.
- 3:34Speaker 1: Well it was fun, but so but then that so
- 3:37Speaker 1: then so my son is not dating a lovely girl
- 3:40Speaker 1: from Minneapolis.
- 3:42Speaker 4: She's so sweet, very nice.
- 3:43Speaker 1: And I did my book tour years ago. I went
- 3:45Speaker 1: to Minneapolis and then someone told me the other day
- 3:48Speaker 1: Minnesota nice is not nice?
- 3:50Speaker 3: Oh?
- 3:51Speaker 4: Is that it's passive aggressive?
- 3:53Speaker 2: I don't know about that. Park and I have to say.
- 3:57Speaker 1: Had nothing but good experiences in Minneapol. And of course, uh,
- 4:02Speaker 1: my son's girlfriend, assuming that's still his girlfriend.
- 4:04Speaker 5: I don't know what article you were reading, but where
- 4:06Speaker 5: we need to find out if that's true.
- 4:08Speaker 4: You know, we have an expert.
- 4:10Speaker 1: Oh, we have an expert here today who can tell
- 4:13Speaker 1: us all about that.
- 4:14Speaker 4: And not only that.
- 4:16Speaker 1: She has had an impressive improv and sketch comedy career.
- 4:20Speaker 1: She was among the cast of Mad TV, where she
- 4:23Speaker 1: created characters like Lorraine Yes and Stuart's mom who I
- 4:26Speaker 1: think is his named Jerene. But I can't remember exactly.
- 4:30Speaker 1: But my favorite character and I can. I don't want
- 4:33Speaker 1: say I can relate to it because that would not
- 4:34Speaker 1: that that would sound terrible. But it was Joan Callametzo
- 4:38Speaker 1: on Parks and Recreation, where she was the host of
- 4:42Speaker 1: Pawnee Today, Money Today, and I always enjoyed saying that
- 4:46Speaker 1: I wish we had some Gotcha some Gotcha girls show.
- 4:50Speaker 1: She is an Emmy nominee and she's qualified as the
- 4:53Speaker 1: Mom's Club. She's the mother of one son. Please welcome,
- 4:55Speaker 1: Moe Collins. Welcome to the Mom's play Low Mo, Well,
- 5:03Speaker 1: straighten this out for us. Is Minnesota nice?
- 5:06Speaker 4: Nice?
- 5:07Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 5:08Speaker 4: Well that's what I thought. Somebody said, Oh, that's passive aggressive.
- 5:11Speaker 1: I'm like, what being nice? Your pat What does that mean?
- 5:14Speaker 4: I think it's nice? Yeah.
- 5:17Speaker 3: Minnesota people in general, Yeah, yeah, they're very nice. Yeah.
- 5:22Speaker 3: In fact, like right now, I've been so excited because
- 5:24Speaker 3: through Tim Walls, people are seeing the true character of Minnesota.
- 5:29Speaker 3: Through him, he's the epitome. Like it's just so I
- 5:32Speaker 3: love watching him because I'm like, yeah, that's.
- 5:35Speaker 5: Like community, changing your tire in the snow, like all
- 5:39Speaker 5: of that.
- 5:39Speaker 2: It's a true story.
- 5:40Speaker 4: Truth.
- 5:41Speaker 3: Well, it's a true story. I mean it's coined because
- 5:43Speaker 3: it's true, you know. I mean it's true. Which isn't
- 5:47Speaker 3: to say that there aren't bad people everywhere and assholes everywhere. Yeah,
- 5:52Speaker 3: there's a general rule. Minnesota is a very kind place.
- 5:56Speaker 4: There you go. I really enjoyed it. When I went
- 5:58Speaker 4: on my book tour. It was jew so it was beautiful.
- 6:01Speaker 1: And I thought, wow, I'd like to live here. And
- 6:03Speaker 1: then someone else said, well, do you see all those
- 6:04Speaker 1: tunnels are those you know? You may not be so
- 6:07Speaker 1: I'm from Texas, so that might be hard. But and
- 6:11Speaker 1: in fairness, the person who told me that about Minnesota
- 6:13Speaker 1: and ice was actually from another local state.
- 6:16Speaker 2: And maybe they weren't so nice.
- 6:17Speaker 1: Well they also well, I kind of wonder what's going
- 6:19Speaker 1: on up there because this person's from Wisconsin, and they
- 6:22Speaker 1: also don't like people from Illinois.
- 6:24Speaker 4: So maybe there's a state.
- 6:26Speaker 1: Thing going on there. But yes, I've had nothing but
- 6:29Speaker 1: good experiences.
- 6:30Speaker 2: So I think we all need to straighten that out.
- 6:34Speaker 1: Unlike bless your heart, which will never be redeemed, as
- 6:37Speaker 1: I saying, trust me, So tell so you are from Minneapolis,
- 6:40Speaker 1: and tell us how your career took you from Minneapolis
- 6:44Speaker 1: to all of the amazing things you've done. When you
- 6:47Speaker 1: just touched on your career, it's been it's been amazing,
- 6:50Speaker 1: as we say here on the Mom's Club.
- 6:52Speaker 3: Thanks well. I mean, when my son was two, I
- 6:55Speaker 3: had come out to LA and friends and myself we'd
- 6:58Speaker 3: written a show and put it up, and you know,
- 7:00Speaker 3: I was really dreaming of living in Los Angeles, And
- 7:04Speaker 3: when my son was too I did. I sold the house,
- 7:08Speaker 3: packed him up in a U haul with the three
- 7:11Speaker 3: cats and headed out to LA and within the first
- 7:15Speaker 3: year I got mad TV. So it was the right
- 7:16Speaker 3: choice because ultimately I did it. You know, It's like
- 7:20Speaker 3: if I was going to lead by example with my child, Yeah,
- 7:25Speaker 3: I had to show him what it looked like to
- 7:27Speaker 3: go for it and to go for your dreams and
- 7:29Speaker 3: do what you love and be who you are.
- 7:31Speaker 2: And does he say that he looks back he was two,
- 7:34Speaker 2: you know what I mean, like over your career that
- 7:36Speaker 2: he's so glad that you went for it and did
- 7:38Speaker 2: everything that you did. I mean he's adult, an adult now, right.
- 7:42Speaker 3: Yeah, he's twenty nine. It's not like he has anything
- 7:44Speaker 3: to compare it to because he was too young to
- 7:46Speaker 3: remember life in Minnesota. So for him, he's just he's
- 7:50Speaker 3: in La yep, person and that's really all he's ever known.
- 7:56Speaker 6: You know.
- 7:56Speaker 3: So he he's glad. He loves it here.
- 8:00Speaker 2: So does he live here?
- 8:02Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 8:03Speaker 2: Amazing, that's cool.
- 8:05Speaker 3: He lives up in Beechwood Canyon.
- 8:07Speaker 5: Yeah, it would be nice for adult children to live
- 8:10Speaker 5: in the same town.
- 8:14Speaker 3: He just recently moved from an apartment across the street
- 8:17Speaker 3: where he lived for six or seven years, and that
- 8:20Speaker 3: was nice. Too. Even though I didn't see him a lot,
- 8:22Speaker 3: I still just like to see his car park down
- 8:24Speaker 3: the street or the light on in his apartment. I
- 8:26Speaker 3: was like a.
- 8:29Speaker 1: Comfort that saves you from having to check life three
- 8:31Speaker 1: sixty all the time, like.
- 8:33Speaker 5: Here, Oh, I don't know what you're talking about.
- 8:37Speaker 2: Yeah, every day.
- 8:39Speaker 3: Now.
- 8:39Speaker 1: Did you do improv in Minneapolis or so that's where
- 8:42Speaker 1: you started?
- 8:43Speaker 4: Because improv?
- 8:44Speaker 3: I started doing improv in eighth grade.
- 8:47Speaker 4: Oh wow.
- 8:48Speaker 3: And then after kind of getting asked to leave college
- 8:53Speaker 3: a little early, Oh, and I didn't know what to
- 8:56Speaker 3: do with my life. I remember improv that thing that
- 8:58Speaker 3: I loved. And there's a company up in Minneapolis, much
- 9:01Speaker 3: like Groundlings or Second City. And I signed up for
- 9:04Speaker 3: Dudley Riggs Bring New Workshop in Minneapolis and sign up
- 9:07Speaker 3: for classes, and then got into the touring company, and
- 9:11Speaker 3: before you know it, I had a check and I
- 9:13Speaker 3: was with people I love. Yeah, you know, it's on
- 9:16Speaker 3: my my hive and it just went on from there.
- 9:20Speaker 1: Now, for those moms out there who don't know, so
- 9:22Speaker 1: explain a little bit how improv works, Like it takes
- 9:26Speaker 1: a really do you have to be really smart and
- 9:27Speaker 1: on your toes to be successful at that?
- 9:30Speaker 4: I would think, I don't.
- 9:31Speaker 3: Know if you have to be really smart, Well.
- 9:35Speaker 4: That's good news. You aren't smart.
- 9:40Speaker 3: No, you have to be I don't know, have a
- 9:44Speaker 3: certain level of three, I guess I don't know.
- 9:47Speaker 4: Quick.
- 9:49Speaker 3: But improv is you know, you get suggestions from the
- 9:51Speaker 3: audience and then you create a scene out of nothing.
- 9:55Speaker 3: It's theater without a net. So yeah, that's really all
- 10:00Speaker 3: it is, and anybody can do it.
- 10:03Speaker 5: When did you know that improv was like in your blood,
- 10:06Speaker 5: like your you know, dear friend, like that you just
- 10:09Speaker 5: like ate it up.
- 10:10Speaker 2: How did you know you had the ninth grade?
- 10:13Speaker 3: In eighth grade? I mean, up until that point, everybody
- 10:16Speaker 3: knew me as Maureen. I was a very painfully shy person.
- 10:21Speaker 3: And then the the theater teacher, mister Hermiting, he he
- 10:29Speaker 3: was in the busy hall of the Junior high that year.
- 10:32Speaker 3: He goes hey, mo, and I'm like, oh my god,
- 10:35Speaker 3: whoever he is, I would not want to be him. Yeah,
- 10:37Speaker 3: because mister Hermiting had a big, booming, scary voice and
- 10:41Speaker 3: he was pointing at me and he goes, yeah, you
- 10:44Speaker 3: get over here and sign up for this. And it
- 10:47Speaker 3: was for it was to be a part of a
- 10:50Speaker 3: you know, we would write sketches, we would learn improv
- 10:52Speaker 3: and do improv and perform, and he basically in he
- 10:57Speaker 3: kind of split my personality for me and made space
- 11:02Speaker 3: for Mo this other part of who I am, this
- 11:05Speaker 3: creative gave MO the freedom to do this. I was
- 11:09Speaker 3: able to kind of just separate my shy self from
- 11:13Speaker 3: what he saw in me, and then I built it
- 11:15Speaker 3: from there. So, I mean, honestly, I fell in love
- 11:18Speaker 3: with it in eighth grade and it's been my BAF
- 11:21Speaker 3: ever since.
- 11:21Speaker 4: Have you found it a lot?
- 11:22Speaker 2: Because you heard this a lot people that are pretty.
- 11:24Speaker 1: Shy are actually some of the best comedians and entertainers
- 11:29Speaker 1: that do that are really shy people like in their
- 11:32Speaker 1: own lives, they don't like they're not out there all
- 11:35Speaker 1: the time, which is kind of funny too, because people
- 11:36Speaker 1: expect them then when they see them in public to think.
- 11:39Speaker 4: Oh, this, she's gotta be hilarious.
- 11:42Speaker 3: Because she's as yeah yeah, and the opposite com he's
- 11:46Speaker 3: had too. A lot of the loud miles out there
- 11:47Speaker 3: that think they're funny.
- 11:48Speaker 2: Oh yeah, so funny.
- 11:50Speaker 3: Yeah. But I do think that, and I say this
- 11:54Speaker 3: a lot about people in comedy is that at the
- 11:57Speaker 3: root of it is this desire to be taken seriously, right,
- 12:02Speaker 3: and it's it's a tool to that, I guess. But
- 12:07Speaker 3: and I mean, if you are shy, it's a tool
- 12:09Speaker 3: to it's it's like another persona to step away from
- 12:13Speaker 3: your your shy self and get out and get your
- 12:15Speaker 3: ideas out.
- 12:17Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 12:18Speaker 1: Yeah, So if your child is sort of introverted, you
- 12:20Speaker 1: might want to explore that a little bit with them.
- 12:24Speaker 1: Maybe they maybe they mean improv theater, Yeah, do some
- 12:27Speaker 1: things that they can kind of be outside of themselves,
- 12:29Speaker 1: which is a great thing. Well, here on the Mom's Club,
- 12:32Speaker 1: we our motto is if you don't laugh, sometimes you're
- 12:34Speaker 1: gonna cry.
- 12:35Speaker 4: So we're all about laughter.
- 12:37Speaker 1: And in Mad TV you delivered it all the time.
- 12:41Speaker 1: So what was your I mean, humor and comedy. Have
- 12:45Speaker 1: you ever thought about trying more dramatic stuff or you're
- 12:49Speaker 1: like you think comedy.
- 12:50Speaker 3: Is Yeah, I have. I mean the last job I
- 12:53Speaker 3: really had was Fear of the Walking Dead. Oh yeah,
- 12:56Speaker 3: that was AMA series. And I've done other sporadic drama
- 13:02Speaker 3: projects over the years, and yeah, I want to do
- 13:05Speaker 3: it all. Unfortunately, you know, Hollywood doesn't love me right now,
- 13:09Speaker 3: so it's.
- 13:10Speaker 2: Just not it's a hard it's a hard business.
- 13:12Speaker 5: Do you have a favorite like, do you have a
- 13:14Speaker 5: favorite role, favorite audition.
- 13:16Speaker 2: That you were like? Really, you know, I was able
- 13:19Speaker 2: to dive into I dive.
- 13:21Speaker 3: Into everything I do. That's just that's me. When I work,
- 13:25Speaker 3: I'm a diver. I give two hundred percent. For me,
- 13:31Speaker 3: the favorite parts are just the moments with the people
- 13:34Speaker 3: that I've gotten to work with. Yeah, you know, like
- 13:36Speaker 3: I really have gotten to have great times with great
- 13:40Speaker 3: people like I I've gotten my share of fun experiences
- 13:46Speaker 3: and just really incredible people.
- 13:49Speaker 5: Well, I'm really dying to know how many takes when
- 13:51Speaker 5: the gotcha girls would come across the stage did you
- 13:54Speaker 5: have to do when you weren't losing it? Or was
- 13:56Speaker 5: it always like able to roll with it? I mean
- 14:00Speaker 5: that always kills me every time.
- 14:02Speaker 3: Oh, I don't know how many takes. I mean, it's
- 14:07Speaker 3: hard to say. It's usually like, I don't know, three
- 14:13Speaker 3: or four takes of things that they were just getting.
- 14:15Speaker 3: And of course when you do it, it's like they
- 14:17Speaker 3: do the wide shot, they do the medium shot, they
- 14:19Speaker 3: do close up shots, so you're actually doing the same
- 14:22Speaker 3: scene multiple times, right, and then they put it all together.
- 14:27Speaker 3: But yeah, we certainly had our laughs. The tough times
- 14:31Speaker 3: is when you can't stop, you know, if you get
- 14:34Speaker 3: into I'm sure you all have had those times where
- 14:36Speaker 3: you just, you know, laughter hits that funny bone so hard.
- 14:40Speaker 2: Yeah, you get the giggles and you can't.
- 14:42Speaker 3: You just can't. It's like, you know, my cousin and
- 14:44Speaker 3: I when we used to go to church together, It's
- 14:46Speaker 3: like we'd always end up having to leave the church, right,
- 14:49Speaker 3: you just couldn't come back, you know. Well, yeah, it
- 14:52Speaker 3: too hard.
- 14:53Speaker 1: And it's interesting to you on Mad TV and some
- 14:55Speaker 1: of the clips that are out there on YouTube now
- 14:57Speaker 1: our clips were you actually were laughing and I couldn't
- 15:01Speaker 1: stop because yeah, whoever you were working with was pretty funny.
- 15:05Speaker 3: Yeah, funny, so hard not to laugh so hard. I
- 15:08Speaker 3: mean they used to take bets when you know, yeah,
- 15:12Speaker 3: how long it would take before I would crack up,
- 15:14Speaker 3: And man, I would do everything I could just try
- 15:17Speaker 3: to try and win win those bets, but uh, I
- 15:20Speaker 3: think I lost every time.
- 15:24Speaker 4: Well, you were entertaining either way. Yes, So where did
- 15:26Speaker 4: the character, because it.
- 15:27Speaker 1: Was developed over time, where did Joan Calametso come from?
- 15:31Speaker 1: I mean, what did you draw on your.
- 15:34Speaker 3: They wrote her, they wrote her, yeah, and I auditioned
- 15:37Speaker 3: for it.
- 15:37Speaker 4: So we're not going to break news like your.
- 15:39Speaker 3: Alcohol from my friends and I. You know, we used
- 15:43Speaker 3: to watch like those kind of sad cable access shows
- 15:49Speaker 3: that we're out there. Yeah, I used to love those.
- 15:51Speaker 3: They were just so odd and kitchy, and so it
- 15:54Speaker 3: kind of kind of just drew from that for the
- 15:57Speaker 3: character just pretending to be professional you don't know what
- 16:00Speaker 3: you're doing. That's where I started with Joan. And of
- 16:04Speaker 3: course over time producers and writers realize that they could
- 16:11Speaker 3: expand the character with me because like every time I
- 16:15Speaker 3: chow to set, Amy Poehler would just say, most here,
- 16:18Speaker 3: keep the camera rolling because of the improv. You know,
- 16:20Speaker 3: it's like until they say cut, I'm gonna keep going.
- 16:23Speaker 2: Okay, Yeah, yeah, I love that. That's full support and yeah,
- 16:28Speaker 2: you know what I mean, letting you shine and do
- 16:30Speaker 2: your things.
- 16:31Speaker 3: And it's all about First of all, there were no
- 16:33Speaker 3: egos on this show, because when the captain of the
- 16:35Speaker 3: ship Amy has no ego, you can't come aboard and
- 16:37Speaker 3: have an ego yourself, you know. So it was a
- 16:40Speaker 3: great playground. It was just a fantastic playground. And it's
- 16:45Speaker 3: you know, when you when you let when you let
- 16:49Speaker 3: the cameras go beyond the script and such. You're essentially
- 16:53Speaker 3: mining for comedy gold and usually find some, you know,
- 16:58Speaker 3: and then you have that for in the editing. It's great.
- 17:01Speaker 5: Well, I mean I can only speak as a parent, like,
- 17:03Speaker 5: listen when you hear your kids belly laughing from the
- 17:05Speaker 5: other room and you're on in the other room.
- 17:07Speaker 2: And they you know, So it was it was classic.
- 17:10Speaker 2: It was good and you could tell, you could tell,
- 17:13Speaker 2: So thanks for sharing that story.
- 17:15Speaker 3: Yeah. Well, you know, I always say, if you're gonna
- 17:17Speaker 3: be doing comedy making comedy, you should probably be having
- 17:21Speaker 3: fun doing it. Is I just kind of feel like
- 17:24Speaker 3: that's going to come across if you don't. I've been
- 17:27Speaker 3: on some things I don't specifically remember what, but it
- 17:30Speaker 3: was like, yeah, this isn't very this isn't fun, you guys,
- 17:33Speaker 3: this isn't supposed to be comedy. Let's have fun, Yeah.
- 17:36Speaker 2: For sure.
- 17:37Speaker 4: Yeah, that should be the main rule.
- 17:39Speaker 1: Yeah, if you're not having fun, I don't know how
- 17:40Speaker 1: you can be funny. Actually yeah, well and what's not
- 17:44Speaker 1: so fun? But you hit you hit on it. So
- 17:46Speaker 1: that's kind of a You've been in a tough business,
- 17:49Speaker 1: I mean, the ups and downs. How have you stayed
- 17:53Speaker 1: grounded and gone through the years. You know, and no
- 17:56Speaker 1: matter who you are, you can win an Academy award
- 17:58Speaker 1: one year and the next year it's like, oh, who's that?
- 18:01Speaker 3: I mean, so what super calling me grounded? That feels
- 18:05Speaker 3: really good.
- 18:07Speaker 1: I just met you, but I that Yeah, she's that.
- 18:15Speaker 1: Say you want to see the contrast right here you are?
- 18:18Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean it's yeah. You know, a lot of
- 18:22Speaker 3: the resilience in this business is about what you're doing
- 18:26Speaker 3: when you're not working, and that's been most of my career.
- 18:30Speaker 3: Most of my career is not working. You know, that's
- 18:34Speaker 3: just fact. So yeah, I've certainly had my moments of
- 18:39Speaker 3: going crazy, and you know, you try and keep busy,
- 18:42Speaker 3: trying to and now it's like I have not really
- 18:45Speaker 3: I have not worked on camera for a couple of years,
- 18:48Speaker 3: and not a lot of auditions coming through either. So
- 18:54Speaker 3: I paint I've.
- 18:55Speaker 5: Gone back to what you're doing right now, to when
- 18:59Speaker 5: you are you know, yeah.
- 19:02Speaker 3: I mean I've been an artist all my life. I
- 19:04Speaker 3: thought that was actually what I was going to be.
- 19:07Speaker 3: And you know, I joke that I'm not actually going
- 19:12Speaker 3: to Plan B. I'm going back to Plan ah.
- 19:15Speaker 2: That's a good way to put it.
- 19:16Speaker 3: You know, it makes it less sad.
- 19:21Speaker 2: This was plan A all along.
- 19:23Speaker 3: It was plan A. You know.
- 19:25Speaker 2: So what are you painting?
- 19:28Speaker 3: I'm in my studio painting every day. I have my websites,
- 19:32Speaker 3: I sell, I do commissions.
- 19:33Speaker 4: Wow like that.
- 19:35Speaker 2: Yeah, you need to come to Round Top, Texas.
- 19:40Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 19:40Speaker 2: Yeah, that's a whole different story.
- 19:43Speaker 4: Yeah, that's very Yeah.
- 19:45Speaker 2: We couldn't paint anything, Monica.
- 19:47Speaker 4: No, I can't paint. I can't sing, I can't dance.
- 19:50Speaker 2: It's a sad state of my fear.
- 19:52Speaker 4: But I can write. I wrote a book. So there
- 19:55Speaker 4: was quite an experience in and of itself.
- 19:57Speaker 2: Well, I have questions about you being a mom. Just
- 19:59Speaker 2: be because we are inside the mom's club and we
- 20:01Speaker 2: do talk to a lot of people, whether you know
- 20:04Speaker 2: they have kids or not. But I'd love to hear
- 20:06Speaker 2: about were you that football mom? Did you you know,
- 20:09Speaker 2: did you do it all? And if we were to
- 20:11Speaker 2: ask your son, what would he say about you as
- 20:15Speaker 2: a mom and parenting?
- 20:17Speaker 3: Well he's very quiet, but yeah, I was a very
- 20:22Speaker 3: active mom, even though you know, like I was working
- 20:26Speaker 3: man TV for you know, from what five to ten
- 20:30Speaker 3: years old? I think he was three I don't know. Yeah,
- 20:34Speaker 3: a lot of the years I was working, and you know,
- 20:38Speaker 3: there would be times I would I didn't. I never
- 20:40Speaker 3: had a nanny or anything like that. That's the Minnesota
- 20:43Speaker 3: and me, yes, you you raise your own children. And
- 20:48Speaker 3: so there will be times I'd have to leave the
- 20:50Speaker 3: makeup chair, you know, halfway into Doreen Larkin and go
- 20:54Speaker 3: pick up my kid from school and I bring him
- 20:57Speaker 3: back to the studio. Yeah, and you know I had
- 21:01Speaker 3: stuff for him to do in my room. But he
- 21:02Speaker 3: was also I was the only mom on that show,
- 21:05Speaker 3: and so it was really cool how everybody just sort
- 21:09Speaker 3: of they were all the aunts and uncles of my kid.
- 21:11Speaker 3: It was great, Like he'd spend time up in hair
- 21:13Speaker 3: and makeup. They'd do his hair, they'd dress him up
- 21:16Speaker 3: in capes and all this fun stuff. So he got
- 21:19Speaker 3: to experience that. But he was also my son was
- 21:23Speaker 3: very athletic, and so he was in all the sports,
- 21:27Speaker 3: all of them, and he was really good. So you know,
- 21:29Speaker 3: he would get like brought into these more private baseball
- 21:35Speaker 3: leagues and stuff like that, and so it was a lot. Man,
- 21:38Speaker 3: it was a lot a lot of taking him around
- 21:40Speaker 3: to practice and games. And then he was captain of
- 21:45Speaker 3: the football team in high school. He was a quarterback.
- 21:49Speaker 3: So I went to the trauma being that mom up
- 21:51Speaker 3: in the stands and watching your kid get hit.
- 21:53Speaker 4: Oh yeah, that's not easy.
- 21:55Speaker 3: Yeah, that was not easy. Two concussions.
- 21:58Speaker 4: Yeah. Yeah.
- 22:00Speaker 1: Was a baseball mom, so I totally get the whole thing.
- 22:02Speaker 1: So I was team mom, So I had to collect
- 22:04Speaker 1: everybody's birth certificates and then make sure make sure the
- 22:08Speaker 1: other team wasn't cheating by putting kids on who professed
- 22:11Speaker 1: to be nine but had mustaches, and we were like,
- 22:13Speaker 1: I don't think that's actually a real birth certificate.
- 22:15Speaker 4: So but so you did all that I got, because
- 22:17Speaker 4: that's a.
- 22:18Speaker 3: Lot I did, and I did, and I really liked
- 22:20Speaker 3: being the mom that had all the kids over to
- 22:23Speaker 3: her house. Yeah ay, so I can kind of keep
- 22:28Speaker 3: tabs on what my son is doing. But a lot
- 22:32Speaker 3: of the kids on our block did not have the
- 22:35Speaker 3: same you know, security sure that my son did. And
- 22:42Speaker 3: so there are even times, you know, like where we
- 22:46Speaker 3: had for a while, one of his friend's mother was
- 22:52Speaker 3: she was she was in prison, and it just sort
- 22:54Speaker 3: of happened and he was left at our house and
- 22:56Speaker 3: I'm like, well, I guess you I guess you're staying
- 22:58Speaker 3: spending the night year. For he spent almost a year here.
- 23:02Speaker 2: That's amazing.
- 23:04Speaker 3: But that's that's sort of what our household was was
- 23:09Speaker 3: just an open place for a safe place for These
- 23:14Speaker 3: are all boys, you know, and I loved it, like
- 23:17Speaker 3: the slumber parties. And and then my son a bunch
- 23:21Speaker 3: of them they formed a band, and so they had
- 23:24Speaker 3: the garage. They played the band, and then they had
- 23:27Speaker 3: gigs down in Hollywood even and I had a tahoe
- 23:31Speaker 3: at the time, and so I get all the instruments
- 23:33Speaker 3: in my car and take them to their gigs. I
- 23:35Speaker 3: liked being that mom.
- 23:37Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean so far, you've got to figure it out.
- 23:39Speaker 5: A you know, you need a village to raise your kid.
- 23:42Speaker 5: I'm a big believer in that. And then you have
- 23:44Speaker 5: them all over to your house. I mean, you get
- 23:46Speaker 5: to know them, and you get to keep tabs on them.
- 23:48Speaker 2: I think that, you.
- 23:49Speaker 3: Know, I try to keep that thing about women is
- 23:51Speaker 3: that we are also within each and every one of us,
- 23:54Speaker 3: an entire village.
- 23:56Speaker 4: That's true. That is so true.
- 23:58Speaker 1: Well, and so our show kind of got started is
- 24:01Speaker 1: we're there's five of us who are really close friends. Yeah,
- 24:04Speaker 1: through our kids, and so we're sort of the mom's club,
- 24:06Speaker 1: even though we're just really good friends.
- 24:09Speaker 4: But since you were such an involved mom.
- 24:11Speaker 1: Did you have a group of mom friends who you know,
- 24:14Speaker 1: you got close to or did you find some moms
- 24:16Speaker 1: that would always, you know, say, you know.
- 24:18Speaker 4: Oh, bless her heart. What was it like with the
- 24:21Speaker 4: other moms?
- 24:23Speaker 3: Well, a lot of them didn't have another a mom
- 24:25Speaker 3: that was available. So I did not meet a lot
- 24:27Speaker 3: of the moms. Oh, to be honest, you know, I
- 24:31Speaker 3: had friends at the games and stuff. You know, we
- 24:32Speaker 3: sit in the bleachers and talk.
- 24:35Speaker 5: Yeah, a group of friends. Now you're close girlfriends just
- 24:40Speaker 5: oh tight.
- 24:43Speaker 2: Love it.
- 24:43Speaker 3: Yeah, it's a smaller circle. Yeah, you know, it's like
- 24:48Speaker 3: I don't I don't feel this need to just be
- 24:52Speaker 3: everybody's you know, on everybody's list. I just don't need
- 24:56Speaker 3: that anymore. Sure my list is tight.
- 25:00Speaker 5: Yeah, it changes, it becomes more intimate and more you
- 25:04Speaker 5: get to be more real, you get.
- 25:05Speaker 2: To be more honest, and yeah, you need all that
- 25:07Speaker 2: other fluff. I totally agree with you. Yeah for sure.
- 25:11Speaker 4: Well what's what what's your next act? The being a
- 25:15Speaker 4: famous artist? And remember artist?
- 25:19Speaker 2: That sounds good. I like that.
- 25:21Speaker 3: That sounds good. Look. It's like, you know, I'm I
- 25:24Speaker 3: don't ever cut off any of my limbs as it were.
- 25:27Speaker 3: It's like, I'm a lot of things. Mo is short
- 25:31Speaker 3: for more and in the meantime, you know, I'm I
- 25:34Speaker 3: am pushing my art and doing my stuff with that.
- 25:36Speaker 3: But you know, if any if, at any time, some
- 25:40Speaker 3: director producer wants to pull me out Betty White Jennifer
- 25:43Speaker 3: Coolidge style and put me to work on camera again.
- 25:45Speaker 3: Mm hmm, where to find me?
- 25:48Speaker 2: For sure? I can speak. I would love to see that,
- 25:50Speaker 2: for sure.
- 25:51Speaker 3: Yeah, I would love to see that too, Yes, because
- 25:55Speaker 3: I don't I don't feel like I'm done there, and
- 25:57Speaker 3: God knows, I've got more character qualities now than ever, you.
- 26:04Speaker 5: Know, sitting up straight, Yeah, for sure. So what are
- 26:08Speaker 5: you painting? I'm really curious, like what are you painting?
- 26:12Speaker 4: Things?
- 26:12Speaker 3: Is it? You know? It's I work in oil. I
- 26:16Speaker 3: work in acrylic a lot. Yeah, my work is not
- 26:22Speaker 3: put into a box kind of like just just like
- 26:25Speaker 3: my acting, you can't kind of can't put me into box.
- 26:28Speaker 3: I do a lot of abstract stuff. Lately, a lot
- 26:30Speaker 3: of people have been having me do abstract wilderness stuff.
- 26:37Speaker 3: I do a lot of heads, I just call them heads,
- 26:39Speaker 3: but they're they're honestly just kind of like characters, which
- 26:42Speaker 3: is funny because I'm also a character actor. But I
- 26:45Speaker 3: call them heads. They're abstract. Yeah, I paint whatever I'm
- 26:50Speaker 3: working on a I just got a trip tick, which
- 26:52Speaker 3: is three pieces of art that go together. Got a
- 26:55Speaker 3: commission to do that.
- 26:57Speaker 2: I like it.
- 26:58Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah, So so.
- 27:00Speaker 2: I have one question for you besides the art.
- 27:03Speaker 5: I just read a little while ago this morning that
- 27:05Speaker 5: the Dances with the Stars list came out? Would that
- 27:08Speaker 5: be today? I saw that Eric Roberts signed up. If
- 27:12Speaker 5: anybody ever tapped you for that, would you do Dances
- 27:14Speaker 5: with the stars?
- 27:16Speaker 3: Not with my knees?
- 27:18Speaker 5: We'd have to keep hit on the ground, right like Yeah,
- 27:21Speaker 5: I mean, unless they.
- 27:22Speaker 3: Just want to over time. I just don't know that
- 27:25Speaker 3: it's feasible.
- 27:28Speaker 2: To be honestly, Miracles happened. Miracles happen. So I just
- 27:34Speaker 2: thought it was funny that, Yeah, the list came out.
- 27:37Speaker 2: I wonder if Moe would sign up for that.
- 27:40Speaker 3: I wouldn't sign up for it, No, yeah, but you
- 27:43Speaker 3: might do it? Maybe maybe, I hear, Yeah, what's the number?
- 27:51Speaker 3: Would it afford me new knees?
- 27:53Speaker 4: We'll put a plug in for you.
- 27:54Speaker 1: Well, there you could. Yeah, it could be sponsored by
- 27:56Speaker 1: some you know, medtronics.
- 27:58Speaker 4: They can replace you and put you on Dancing with
- 28:01Speaker 4: the Stars and say look at her.
- 28:02Speaker 3: She's like the first round. It's like Collins is down.
- 28:08Speaker 3: But at least I could say I did it. We'll
- 28:09Speaker 3: take that check.
- 28:11Speaker 4: Yeah, absolutely love that.
- 28:14Speaker 1: Well, we have some women and young women who would
- 28:18Speaker 1: like to ask you some questions the way they are
- 28:22Speaker 1: our zoomer moms and our zoomer daughters a special treat
- 28:26Speaker 1: this time. So welcome Zoomer mom and Zoomer daughters. Welcome
- 28:30Speaker 1: to the Mom's Club. Well, hello, ladies, and we are
- 28:39Speaker 1: so glad to have you introduce yourself. Tell us a
- 28:42Speaker 1: little bit about yourself, and then do you have a
- 28:44Speaker 1: question for Moe Monroe.
- 28:46Speaker 4: Welcome to the Mom's Club.
- 28:48Speaker 3: I know, there you go.
- 28:52Speaker 6: I am doing well. It is such a pleasure to
- 28:55Speaker 6: meet you. Be junkie, a mad TV job. I like
- 29:06Speaker 6: being able to do something on a whim, and you
- 29:09Speaker 6: are awesome at that. So I want to tell you
- 29:12Speaker 6: that first, but I want what I want to ask
- 29:14Speaker 6: you is what is it on your bucket list as
- 29:18Speaker 6: it relates to acting that you would like to tackle
- 29:21Speaker 6: in your career at this point in your life.
- 29:26Speaker 3: Drama, Yeah, you know, I do. I want to do drama.
- 29:30Speaker 3: I want to do things. I mean, yeah, I do
- 29:36Speaker 3: feel like I'm headed into more character and more richer
- 29:40Speaker 3: characters to do. I'd love to do some. I mean,
- 29:44Speaker 3: even if it's like some like not gory horror, but
- 29:51Speaker 3: a thriller or something where I'm some evil woman. I
- 29:55Speaker 3: think that would be super fun to do. I like
- 29:57Speaker 3: playing broken people really, yeah, awesome? Yeah, I like broken
- 30:07Speaker 3: people underlings? Is that the right way to say it. Yeah.
- 30:13Speaker 3: I like doing those kinds of characters, you know, bringing
- 30:17Speaker 3: them to light.
- 30:18Speaker 1: That's that's so what So that's interesting. So Lorraine on
- 30:24Speaker 1: Mad TV was funny but sort of you could have
- 30:29Speaker 1: it's a little bit broken, right, I mean that you
- 30:31Speaker 1: know you find her when there.
- 30:34Speaker 3: That she's broken. You know. That's the thing about broken people.
- 30:38Speaker 3: It's often perception that they are broken, and quite honestly,
- 30:43Speaker 3: you could look at every one of us and say broken,
- 30:47Speaker 3: you know, I mean we're all here to to break
- 30:50Speaker 3: and repair and break and repair, and you know it's
- 30:53Speaker 3: not a perfect journey. Yeah. So I like going into
- 30:57Speaker 3: those characters, including Lorraine, and going how how do they operate?
- 31:03Speaker 3: What moves them? You know, those those things, and then
- 31:08Speaker 3: you know, I put myself into that. What similarities do
- 31:11Speaker 3: I have to that person? God knows, I'm coming to
- 31:13Speaker 3: be more and more like Lorraine all the time. Yeah, yeah,
- 31:18Speaker 3: but yeah.
- 31:19Speaker 2: That's a good answer.
- 31:20Speaker 7: Yeah, I like that.
- 31:21Speaker 2: It wasn't expecting that.
- 31:22Speaker 4: Well we have also zoomer daughters.
- 31:24Speaker 1: And this one more quick.
- 31:32Speaker 6: Yeah, So have you considered that maybe this downtime is
- 31:36Speaker 6: a time where you're just really preparing for that biggest
- 31:41Speaker 6: role that you want.
- 31:44Speaker 3: I am, do you know what I mean? It's like
- 31:47Speaker 3: I am, I am preparing. There is no direct way
- 31:53Speaker 3: in my mind to prepare other than to you know,
- 31:57Speaker 3: just keep being me and learning my lessons, and those
- 32:02Speaker 3: are the things I'll bring whenever the thing dangles itself
- 32:04Speaker 3: and presents itself. But you know, my husband actually coined this,
- 32:10Speaker 3: and I think it's so true. Being an actors, like
- 32:13Speaker 3: you're kind of like an assassin. You always have to
- 32:17Speaker 3: be ready for when you do get that call. You know.
- 32:21Speaker 3: So those things to me mean keeping myself healthy and
- 32:26Speaker 3: ready to just go. You know, it's something in the
- 32:32Speaker 3: mind that is ready. That's the prep Yeah, it is
- 32:35Speaker 3: to always be ready to jump. But in the meantime,
- 32:38Speaker 3: you know, being creative is just at least keeping creativity
- 32:42Speaker 3: flowing through my old bones.
- 32:45Speaker 2: Yeah, but not only are you creative.
- 32:48Speaker 5: I forgot to mention this that you're really involved like
- 32:51Speaker 5: with animals and yeah, do you have a certain number
- 32:54Speaker 5: of rescue dogs cats?
- 32:56Speaker 2: I really don't know the answer to this. I just
- 32:58Speaker 2: was like, wait a second, you do a lot of yeah, saving.
- 33:01Speaker 3: Yeah, I do. I'm on the board with Stand Up
- 33:04Speaker 3: for Pits, which is a pit bull advocacy. I've been
- 33:09Speaker 3: with them from the start. We currently have Walter, who's
- 33:14Speaker 3: one hundred and sixty five pound Dane mastuff. He's huge.
- 33:17Speaker 2: I thought you're going to say one hundred and sixty
- 33:19Speaker 2: five years old, but yeah.
- 33:20Speaker 3: Yeah, no, if he's only two, oh my god. And
- 33:24Speaker 3: then we got Beanie, who is just a hot mess
- 33:27Speaker 3: and she's an eight year old. She was bred for
- 33:29Speaker 3: eight years, dumped in the desert. She's a staffy pit
- 33:32Speaker 3: bull mix and we we deal with her. She's a lot.
- 33:38Speaker 3: There's Toodles, the cat who's still with us, who we
- 33:42Speaker 3: literally found under our bed.
- 33:44Speaker 2: Oh yeah, yeah, like found our bed.
- 33:51Speaker 3: We heard me owing for a couple of nights, couldn't
- 33:53Speaker 3: figure out where it was coming from, like a little
- 33:54Speaker 3: kid and us, We're looking outside out the screen door,
- 33:57Speaker 3: like where the hell is this?
- 33:59Speaker 4: What is going to do?
- 34:00Speaker 2: You have a new weird habit? Like why are you meowing?
- 34:03Speaker 2: Like what is that? Like? I can't imagine find a
- 34:05Speaker 2: kitten on your bed?
- 34:07Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, maybe that's not where he was. The
- 34:09Speaker 3: first couple nights we were hearing maybe he was outside somewhere,
- 34:12Speaker 3: but somehow maybe my other cat actually brought him in
- 34:14Speaker 3: and under the mat. No idea, But we did ultimately
- 34:18Speaker 3: find Dusty Toodles under the bed, just a little tiny kitten. Well,
- 34:25Speaker 3: so that's who lives in the house now. And then
- 34:27Speaker 3: there's Scalley Wags who's outside and we also take care
- 34:29Speaker 3: of him. Oh my god, that's an interesting but yeah,
- 34:31Speaker 3: we get animals here.
- 34:33Speaker 2: It's just yeah, it's hard to say no, isn't it.
- 34:36Speaker 3: Yeah, you don't say no.
- 34:37Speaker 4: How about your story? So Julie picked up a cat
- 34:40Speaker 4: at a rest stop. His name is Sippy. So I
- 34:43Speaker 4: thought that was.
- 34:44Speaker 1: The strangest adoption story I had heard. But yeah, finding
- 34:46Speaker 1: one under your bed that you can't cut.
- 34:48Speaker 2: Monica is going to write a book. Rest Stop Kitty.
- 34:51Speaker 1: Yes, rest Stop Kitty is one on my list of
- 34:53Speaker 1: things that I will be doing in my in my downtime,
- 34:56Speaker 1: I will ride rest.
- 34:58Speaker 5: I just had to mention it because I forgot that,
- 35:00Speaker 5: you know. I saw a glimpse of that and.
- 35:01Speaker 2: I was like, oh my god.
- 35:02Speaker 5: We all love animals. We have plenty of them, you
- 35:04Speaker 5: know in our household.
- 35:06Speaker 4: So very important.
- 35:07Speaker 2: Yeah, and it's very healed.
- 35:08Speaker 4: It is very cool.
- 35:09Speaker 1: And yeah, my son has a dog that he talked
- 35:12Speaker 1: to us into letting him have. He's part Great Dane
- 35:15Speaker 1: and we think he's part Great Dane and part Beagle
- 35:18Speaker 1: because he's marked like a beagle. But he's and he's
- 35:22Speaker 1: just he's hyper and he's destructive at times. And he
- 35:26Speaker 1: even we even had an incident recently. I was kicking
- 35:29Speaker 1: a ball for him and I accidentally kicked it where
- 35:32Speaker 1: he bit my leg and so I ended up in
- 35:35Speaker 1: the er and I had my sins like, don't tell
- 35:37Speaker 1: them Max bit you.
- 35:39Speaker 4: They will take him down.
- 35:40Speaker 1: I said, I will cover for Max if you do
- 35:43Speaker 1: one favor for me, and that is if you take
- 35:46Speaker 1: Max to the vet, because I did kick him in
- 35:48Speaker 1: the face. You explain that my mother did not mean
- 35:51Speaker 1: to kick my dog in the fright. One of us
- 35:53Speaker 1: want to go to prison over this. Yeah, so we've
- 35:56Speaker 1: had some but but it means very important.
- 35:58Speaker 4: I think that's great that you do that. That is amazing,
- 36:01Speaker 4: And I.
- 36:01Speaker 3: Think there's nothing better than raising kids with pets.
- 36:04Speaker 5: Oh yeah, I've been talked into snakes, ferrets, stinky Smoky.
- 36:10Speaker 2: I could do a whole show on Stinky Smoky.
- 36:13Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah show. Yeah, that's for sure.
- 36:15Speaker 5: Hamsters that didn't make it very long, you know, not
- 36:18Speaker 5: mentioning anyone on the show that.
- 36:20Speaker 3: Waited to teach and show empathy, you know.
- 36:24Speaker 2: One hundred people.
- 36:26Speaker 1: Well, and speaking of that, on the show today, we
- 36:30Speaker 1: have a Zoomer. We have two Zoomer daughters, and one
- 36:33Speaker 1: of them is Julie's daughter, and so we were so
- 36:36Speaker 1: excited to have her because like my son, Well, one
- 36:39Speaker 1: time I posted something on Instagram and I saw a
- 36:41Speaker 1: comment and it said I believe it was from him.
- 36:44Speaker 1: I believe I may have a lawsuit for definition. So
- 36:48Speaker 1: he is not allowed on the show yet.
- 36:50Speaker 4: Well he kind of figures that out.
- 36:51Speaker 1: But we were so happy to have Georgia on the
- 36:53Speaker 1: show today.
- 36:54Speaker 4: So, Georgia, do you have a question for mo.
- 36:58Speaker 2: She is beaming. It's so amazing to finally meet you.
- 37:05Speaker 7: And I had no idea that I was going to
- 37:07Speaker 7: get to talk to you this week, but I'm a
- 37:10Speaker 7: part Trek fan, and when I put it together that
- 37:13Speaker 7: you were Joan Kalams was your character, it was amazing
- 37:18Speaker 7: and her character arch throughout the entire show is really
- 37:23Speaker 7: really impressive, and that shows how much skill you have.
- 37:29Speaker 7: You talked a bit about the positive experience that you
- 37:32Speaker 7: had working on that set, and as somebody who's going into, well,
- 37:38Speaker 7: my first job out of college and I'm going in
- 37:41Speaker 7: and working with a lot of people and meeting them,
- 37:43Speaker 7: can you talk a bit about.
- 37:44Speaker 3: What a really positive, like.
- 37:48Speaker 7: Really positive work environment in the studio and what it's
- 37:51Speaker 7: like to you know, want to work with people and.
- 37:55Speaker 2: What kind of I.
- 37:58Speaker 3: Think I think part of what it is is, you know,
- 38:01Speaker 3: if what was so great about going there was that
- 38:04Speaker 3: the people that are there all the time, the series
- 38:07Speaker 3: regular cast, the crew, the directors, producers and stuff. They're
- 38:11Speaker 3: so welcoming, right, you know, It's like they don't treat
- 38:14Speaker 3: you like some other You're brought in like a cousin
- 38:17Speaker 3: or something to the party. And I think that any
- 38:21Speaker 3: workplace can do that. It's how you welcome people. It's
- 38:25Speaker 3: how you make them feel comfortable, ask them questions about themselves,
- 38:29Speaker 3: you know, engage and beyond anything, it's just be considerate.
- 38:36Speaker 3: It's just so simple. Consider other people, be considerate, be kind,
- 38:43Speaker 3: and engage.
- 38:45Speaker 4: Yeah, that's great, it's.
- 38:46Speaker 2: A great Yeah, engage.
- 38:47Speaker 7: Was that really funny to be really mean to Amy
- 38:51Speaker 7: Poehler or the normal basis?
- 38:55Speaker 3: I know, jn't.
- 38:56Speaker 7: I mean, it's the nicest people play funniest villains.
- 39:02Speaker 3: I know. Oh we would just howl after a take,
- 39:05Speaker 3: you know, And I mean there was some time where
- 39:08Speaker 3: I would just be like, oh, Amy, I feel just
- 39:12Speaker 3: you know, and just give her a hug or something, because.
- 39:14Speaker 7: Yeah, but the worst you made her feel, the more
- 39:17Speaker 7: funny it was to the audience.
- 39:19Speaker 3: Oh yeah, and the harder we would laugh when the
- 39:21Speaker 3: take was over. You know. It's just like we talked
- 39:23Speaker 3: like just so rotten, like Joan was just so rotten,
- 39:29Speaker 3: you know. But I would be sure to you know,
- 39:33Speaker 3: jump right back into myself afterwards. I did not want
- 39:36Speaker 3: to be misconstrued. But I mean, I have a history
- 39:40Speaker 3: of playing some real bitchy characters, you know. I just
- 39:46Speaker 3: I don't know, I'm good at it. I don't know
- 39:50Speaker 3: what to say.
- 39:50Speaker 7: About ever get to help write the character after a while,
- 39:54Speaker 7: or you know, include some of your improv. Say that again,
- 39:58Speaker 7: you ever get to include some of your improv or
- 40:01Speaker 7: ideas that made it in there?
- 40:03Speaker 3: Oh? Absolutely, yeah, that's what I say. Like when Amy
- 40:06Speaker 3: said keep the camera rolling, you know, because Moe's here,
- 40:10Speaker 3: It's like, yeah, yeah, yeah, right, good stuff.
- 40:15Speaker 1: Emily, we have another daughter here. He's not my daughter,
- 40:18Speaker 1: she's my brother in law's daughter.
- 40:21Speaker 4: She's my niece.
- 40:22Speaker 1: Emily, Welcome to the Mom's Club. Do you have a
- 40:25Speaker 1: question for mo?
- 40:25Speaker 2: Hello?
- 40:26Speaker 3: Yes, I was wondering what the most rewarding experience or
- 40:32Speaker 3: role in your career has been.
- 40:38Speaker 2: Get to reach deep today?
- 40:39Speaker 3: Yeah, it's always a hard question because, like I say,
- 40:42Speaker 3: it's like moments with people. But but doing Sarah on
- 40:49Speaker 3: Fear of the Walking Dead was a very deeply personal journey.
- 40:57Speaker 3: I would say. She was just this badass and like
- 41:02Speaker 3: I was cast as Sarah when I was fifty three
- 41:06Speaker 3: and after my first season, my my cancer came back
- 41:12Speaker 3: and I didn't tell anybody just because denial it was
- 41:17Speaker 3: a big part of my program. But Sarah gave me
- 41:23Speaker 3: so much strength, you know, I just I drew from her.
- 41:28Speaker 3: And so even like you know, when I was home
- 41:32Speaker 3: or whatever and feeling weak from because I was on
- 41:35Speaker 3: a chemo pill for years and just feeling like poop,
- 41:40Speaker 3: and I was like, I can say the other here,
- 41:43Speaker 3: I would have Sarah take me for a walk, you know,
- 41:46Speaker 3: and I would literally go out, take on her stature
- 41:50Speaker 3: and feel her strength and go for a walk, and
- 41:53Speaker 3: then I would feel strong. So that was just this
- 41:57Speaker 3: really beautiful symbiotic relationship that I had with Sarah and
- 42:01Speaker 3: vice verse. It's like Sarah being as hot kind of
- 42:04Speaker 3: hard as she was, I brought MO into her and
- 42:08Speaker 3: softened her in some interesting ways, only because like half
- 42:11Speaker 3: the time in sad scenes, I couldn't MO became overly
- 42:16Speaker 3: emotional and it was just and my emotions would come
- 42:20Speaker 3: through Sarah. But so that that was a very satisfying
- 42:26Speaker 3: and the other the other side of it, of course,
- 42:28Speaker 3: was those were super duper hard, hard days, Like that
- 42:35Speaker 3: is the hardest job I ever did. Like we're talking
- 42:38Speaker 3: sixteen eighteen hour days out in whether it's heat cold.
- 42:43Speaker 3: We weren't in trailers, we weren't in nice comfy places.
- 42:47Speaker 3: You know. It's like between takes. I'm squatting in the
- 42:49Speaker 3: grass or whatever, like watching out for scorpions because we
- 42:52Speaker 3: shot in Austin, Texas.
- 42:54Speaker 4: I did it.
- 42:55Speaker 3: But at the end of you know, I remember, just
- 42:58Speaker 3: like one time particular, pulled into the hotel room eight
- 43:03Speaker 3: in the morning, you know, and and I just took
- 43:07Speaker 3: a moment to congratulate myself, you know, for because I knew,
- 43:15Speaker 3: I knew what I was going through with my health
- 43:18Speaker 3: and and that I did it so well. I got
- 43:22Speaker 3: through it all so well, and so those are that's
- 43:26Speaker 3: a great victory, right like when we have those moments
- 43:29Speaker 3: where you just you just get through some tough stuff
- 43:34Speaker 3: and you're like, I didn't It's that's just about one
- 43:39Speaker 3: of the coolest things you can walk away with in
- 43:43Speaker 3: any aspect of life, when you go I did it,
- 43:45Speaker 3: and then it's character building. It becomes who you are.
- 43:49Speaker 3: And of course, as my body gets weaker and weaker
- 43:52Speaker 3: and weaker, I know I'm more badass than ever because
- 43:55Speaker 3: I did those things. I've gone through those things, and
- 43:57Speaker 3: I am more resilient as a result. I should end
- 44:00Speaker 3: this by saying I am cancer free.
- 44:02Speaker 4: Yes, congratulations, yay.
- 44:06Speaker 2: I love that.
- 44:08Speaker 5: I was going to ask you when you you know,
- 44:10Speaker 5: the kids asked you a question is like, you know,
- 44:12Speaker 5: as a mom and especially my daughter being on the
- 44:15Speaker 5: show today, I was like, well, what advice, But you
- 44:17Speaker 5: need to say no more because everything that you just
- 44:20Speaker 5: said to these young ladies who are you know, in
- 44:23Speaker 5: their young twenties, you draw from the strengths around you,
- 44:27Speaker 5: and you know what I mean, engage Like all of
- 44:29Speaker 5: this is excellent advice. It's not a perfect road, and
- 44:32Speaker 5: everything you just said, I just feel like I went
- 44:34Speaker 5: to church.
- 44:34Speaker 4: I love it.
- 44:35Speaker 1: Yeah, And I think I was like, I think you
- 44:37Speaker 1: fully said Minnesota is nice.
- 44:40Speaker 2: That's right what.
- 44:43Speaker 3: I wanted to clear up.
- 44:44Speaker 4: You proved it right here by being on the show.
- 44:46Speaker 4: Will weak so much, you know, it's.
- 44:48Speaker 3: Like that's what life is you young ones listening. It's like,
- 44:53Speaker 3: it's about finding out your capacity in life.
- 44:56Speaker 4: Right.
- 44:57Speaker 3: Hard things are only put in front of you because
- 45:00Speaker 3: the universe knows before you do that you can get
- 45:04Speaker 3: through it. And then you get through it and you go,
- 45:08Speaker 3: holy crap, I got through it, and I'm better for it.
- 45:12Speaker 3: I'm bigger, I've expanded my capacity for life. Yeah, yep,
- 45:17Speaker 3: big stuff.
- 45:18Speaker 4: Thanks, great great advice.
- 45:20Speaker 2: George is taking notes like she's in past. She's like,
- 45:22Speaker 2: hold on, can you say that again?
- 45:24Speaker 4: She can listen to podcast your capacity for life exactly.
