- 0:09Speaker 1: Hello, everyone, Welcome to the Inside the Birds postgame show.
- 0:13Speaker 1: Jeff Mosher and Adam Kaplan and the Philadelphia Eagles get
- 0:18Speaker 1: to seven and two back atop the NFC with a
- 0:23Speaker 1: ten to seven win in Lambeau against the Green Bay
- 0:27Speaker 1: Packers in a game that Adam the style and the content,
- 0:33Speaker 1: I guess, the complexion of the game we could not
- 0:35Speaker 1: have predicted. We could have said it would be a
- 0:37Speaker 1: good defensive battle to good defensive teams, but I don't
- 0:40Speaker 1: think anybody could have seen the type of game coming
- 0:44Speaker 1: that was played, which was a ten to seven game
- 0:47Speaker 1: in which there were almost I don't think there were
- 0:49Speaker 1: any points until late in the third fourth quarter. So
- 0:52Speaker 1: it was a very interesting, very weird kind of style
- 0:57Speaker 1: of game. I know people Adam will have some difficulty
- 1:01Speaker 1: here over the next two or three days reconciling the
- 1:04Speaker 1: idea of a win against a good team that puts
- 1:07Speaker 1: them back atop the conference over the fact that the
- 1:10Speaker 1: blemishes on offense are there some strange coaching decisions at
- 1:14Speaker 1: the end of the half. The way I view it
- 1:18Speaker 1: is in a big picture way, Adam is that maybe
- 1:21Speaker 1: in the past I would have worried that this was
- 1:23Speaker 1: kind of an ominous type of win where you worry
- 1:26Speaker 1: about what lies ahead. But this Eagles team played a
- 1:29Speaker 1: very tough, very physical game. I think they deserve more
- 1:33Speaker 1: credit than questioned. I think they've won this type of
- 1:36Speaker 1: game in the past, so they get that benefit of
- 1:38Speaker 1: the doubt, even with their blemishes, and overall, to me,
- 1:42Speaker 1: it's a more impressive win than a concerning win, which
- 1:45Speaker 1: they've had in the past. Yeah.
- 1:48Speaker 2: Look, it was grimy, gritty, that's what it's a Kas
- 1:50Speaker 2: Shanahan term. Sirianni talked about it after game. By the way,
- 1:53Speaker 2: Eagles four and one on the road. Now, Sirianni, over
- 1:56Speaker 2: his first five years of his career, one of the
- 1:58Speaker 2: best head coaches in NFL history on the road, prety impressive.
- 2:00Speaker 2: How good a head coach this guy is. He doesn't
- 2:02Speaker 2: get enough credit. I know nationally, I think I think
- 2:06Speaker 2: what's happened here with him is the people had real
- 2:10Speaker 2: issues with him with his behavior. You're not really hearing
- 2:13Speaker 2: that because they continue to win. True, That's that's the thing,
- 2:17Speaker 2: because the folks know, if you're paying attention, he's got
- 2:19Speaker 2: a ton of national criticism.
- 2:21Speaker 1: Yeah, especially he also hasn't picked any fights with anybody
- 2:24Speaker 1: in the stand so that end, he's been a little
- 2:26Speaker 1: bit more calm too.
- 2:28Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, and he knew that, but it was
- 2:31Speaker 2: obvious either Jeffrey Lorie talked to him, something happened where
- 2:35Speaker 2: someone got in his ear, and he finally did that.
- 2:37Speaker 2: You wouldn't still be fiery, which you'll see him with
- 2:39Speaker 2: the camera, but there's a respectful way to do it. Yeah,
- 2:42Speaker 2: he's doing that, and you know they got Look, they
- 2:44Speaker 2: got the win. They got the three points late in
- 2:46Speaker 2: the third quarter and get started. It was like a slog,
- 2:49Speaker 2: that's what I called it, an offensive flog by both teams.
- 2:52Speaker 2: The defense took over. We'll get to that, but the
- 2:54Speaker 2: overview is it's a win. It's their third in a row.
- 2:57Speaker 2: You feel good about it. They're right at the top.
- 3:00Speaker 2: This is a wide open year in the National Football League.
- 3:03Speaker 2: To me again, I've said last week. I'll say it again.
- 3:06Speaker 2: They have the best chance of anyone. The trade for
- 3:09Speaker 2: Phillips is majorly impactful Week one. We'll talk about that
- 3:13Speaker 2: in a couple of minutes. We'll get the defense, but
- 3:16Speaker 2: they get to think.
- 3:16Speaker 3: About this though.
- 3:17Speaker 2: It's like getting three new players back after the bye.
- 3:20Speaker 2: Phillips is new. BG's technically new as it came out
- 3:23Speaker 2: of retirement and Nolan Smith is back. That's if you
- 3:26Speaker 2: want to know how you play this well defensively?
- 3:28Speaker 3: Which gave you the answers?
- 3:30Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, No, I think you just hit it on
- 3:32Speaker 1: the head. And this is what I can't get out
- 3:33Speaker 1: of my head, no matter how ugly or weird the
- 3:36Speaker 1: game is for the Eagles that they have these they
- 3:40Speaker 1: probably have more quality wins in this year in the
- 3:42Speaker 1: NFL than anybody. I mean, they've beaten some really good teams.
- 3:45Speaker 1: You know, They've beaten the Rams, right, They've beaten the Chiefs,
- 3:47Speaker 1: have now beaten a Packers team on the road. They
- 3:50Speaker 1: have good Bucks. The Bucks are a good team. They
- 3:53Speaker 1: have really on that.
- 3:54Speaker 2: Yeah, a couple of things, all right. I just want
- 3:55Speaker 2: to jump in strength of victory number one in the
- 3:57Speaker 2: NFC at five sixteen. Yeah, their strength of schedule wins
- 4:03Speaker 2: is right up there. They're at five twelve. The only
- 4:05Speaker 2: team teams have played hardest. Guy, I know, Tampa Bay
- 4:07Speaker 2: played the hardest schedule, But Tampa Bay is at five
- 4:09Speaker 2: thirty six, and Minnesota's played a tough schedule five twenty four,
- 4:14Speaker 2: and Arizona and Atlanta are up there. In New Orleans.
- 4:18Speaker 2: But the big thing is the strength of Victor and
- 4:20Speaker 2: your point. They look they it's interesting. They've had some
- 4:24Speaker 2: obviously games they should win easily, and then they've had
- 4:27Speaker 2: some games are really tough. The Rams are really really good.
- 4:30Speaker 2: Green Bay is let's get back to the game. Green
- 4:33Speaker 2: Bay's defense is really really good. They had a couple
- 4:35Speaker 2: of injuries, but they they they're another team that sometimes
- 4:38Speaker 2: plays to their their running game and their defense.
- 4:40Speaker 3: They try to. But they only scored three points, right,
- 4:43Speaker 3: And to.
- 4:44Speaker 1: The point you were making in the NFC, which this
- 4:46Speaker 1: year I feel is wide open, and I do feel
- 4:49Speaker 1: that the Eagles aren't as dominant r like there's a
- 4:54Speaker 1: less of a gap between them and whoever's second, third
- 4:57Speaker 1: or fourth. I mean they beat the Rams on a
- 4:59Speaker 1: field goal, right, I mean they got down nineteen yeah, right,
- 5:01Speaker 1: the Bucks. I mean that was close. So they've come
- 5:04Speaker 1: back to the pack a little bit because of some
- 5:05Speaker 1: of their their their holes on defense a little bit.
- 5:08Speaker 1: And obviously the defenses have done better against them offensively
- 5:12Speaker 1: in the run game because they don't have this impactful
- 5:15Speaker 1: run game like they have. But they are still winning
- 5:18Speaker 1: these games. Is a really clear. It just speaks to
- 5:21Speaker 1: how good they are. That's the point you're making. They
- 5:22Speaker 1: are a very good team, so that even if you're
- 5:25Speaker 1: catching them when they're not at their best, when they
- 5:27Speaker 1: have some weaknesses that you can exploit, it's still hard
- 5:30Speaker 1: to beat them. And that was this game was a
- 5:32Speaker 1: perfect example of that. And I do I do know
- 5:35Speaker 1: that the discourse this week will be man again, Kevin
- 5:38Speaker 1: Batoula's play calong and Nick Sirianni, for as good as
- 5:41Speaker 1: a coach that he is, deserves to be, at least
- 5:43Speaker 1: come under question for those decisions at the end of
- 5:46Speaker 1: the half. First half way to conservative, second half, way
- 5:49Speaker 1: too aggressive. But in general, when you could come out
- 5:54Speaker 1: of the game with these kinds of questions and concerns
- 5:57Speaker 1: and say, hey they're seven to two and they beat
- 5:59Speaker 1: nearly everybody they play, including some good games, then you
- 6:01Speaker 1: know that the things are going well. And look, it's
- 6:04Speaker 1: not it's not gonna get much easier. You've got a good,
- 6:06Speaker 1: good Lions team coming up. And then the Cowboys have
- 6:09Speaker 1: made some changes on defense. We'll see if that makes
- 6:11Speaker 1: them any better. Their offense is certainly prolific, and even
- 6:14Speaker 1: after that game, I think that there's another good, good
- 6:17Speaker 1: team on the Bears aren't that bad. So so you
- 6:22Speaker 1: look forward and you say, hey, I trust the egos
- 6:25Speaker 1: to win these games because they constantly.
- 6:27Speaker 3: Do the things are so mentally tough.
- 6:29Speaker 2: I mean, the offensive flag pass the game, it's your
- 6:33Speaker 2: your typical. Let's get the offense first, it's your typical. Okay,
- 6:35Speaker 2: don't look good. They hit the check down to Barclay
- 6:40Speaker 2: for forty one yards. Okay, that counts it great pure
- 6:42Speaker 2: his health counts.
- 6:43Speaker 3: And then he hits so.
- 6:44Speaker 2: Many great protection, great catch, Hurts, put it on him
- 6:47Speaker 2: that that's that. That to me was hurts in twenty
- 6:50Speaker 2: twenty two. When he trusted the pass target that ball
- 6:52Speaker 2: was coming out. He saw one on one coverage that ball,
- 6:55Speaker 2: that ball, sure's hell's coming out, and it did. But
- 6:57Speaker 2: that's you know, it helps the average propase attempt because
- 7:00Speaker 2: it was downfield. You know, you could be you could
- 7:04Speaker 2: be at four yards, but then it could go to
- 7:05Speaker 2: eight yards with a big play.
- 7:06Speaker 3: But that's just the way it is.
- 7:07Speaker 2: This this this kind of way that this offense has
- 7:09Speaker 2: been the season, low pass yards, a couple of big plays,
- 7:11Speaker 2: a game, running game. We'll get started there. Really, I
- 7:16Speaker 2: think you're starting to see a little bit of the
- 7:18Speaker 2: impact of Jurgen's not being there. There were some times
- 7:21Speaker 2: where clearly Brettov got beat. Yeah, clearly not as good
- 7:25Speaker 2: as he was in the Giants game. Well, we'll talk
- 7:27Speaker 2: to Greg co Soel later today. We taped the inside
- 7:29Speaker 2: of the tape shows. We'll see what Greg says. But
- 7:31Speaker 2: there's certain things you can see on TV didn't look
- 7:33Speaker 2: as good, right, you know, there were some game there
- 7:35Speaker 2: were some runs that Barkley had which were good. Uh,
- 7:39Speaker 2: and Hurts had the ten yard er that that was
- 7:40Speaker 2: good to see. Now my one criticism, and I saw
- 7:44Speaker 2: it on social media. I don't disagree with any of it.
- 7:47Speaker 2: It's I understand when you're third and more than well
- 7:52Speaker 2: more than ten, you feel like which it's a give
- 7:54Speaker 2: up down. And Sirianni was asked about that, he didn't
- 7:57Speaker 2: agree with it because by the way they've hit, they
- 7:59Speaker 2: hit the big one with it Bigsby what was it
- 8:01Speaker 2: third and.
- 8:02Speaker 3: Yeah, a couple of weeks ago.
- 8:03Speaker 1: Yeah, on one play, you know, I mean right right,
- 8:07Speaker 1: like you can't play. That's not a projection to like
- 8:10Speaker 1: why they should always do that?
- 8:11Speaker 2: Of course not, it's like yeah, it's it's it's it's
- 8:14Speaker 2: not it's not realistic, but okay, sure, that's one I
- 8:18Speaker 2: would like to see him throw the football considering the
- 8:20Speaker 2: past target group that they have, but you just have
- 8:23Speaker 2: to live with it.
- 8:23Speaker 3: So the run game, it did show signs of life.
- 8:26Speaker 3: And it's funny.
- 8:27Speaker 2: You were text Andrew and I You're like, I first
- 8:28Speaker 2: played big play running game. You know you're expecting it.
- 8:31Speaker 2: Sometimes it happens, but look, this is not This is
- 8:35Speaker 2: not the Eagles off of the flight of last year.
- 8:36Speaker 3: They're just not the same physically, right, hopefully you know
- 8:39Speaker 3: the bye.
- 8:40Speaker 2: There there are some good signs though it wasn't like
- 8:43Speaker 2: some of the games earlier in the season, but they're
- 8:45Speaker 2: they're still not there with the run game.
- 8:47Speaker 1: Right at halftime, I was thinking this that the Eagles
- 8:50Speaker 1: were having they had a respectable run game. I mean,
- 8:53Speaker 1: all year long they've either had that had the great
- 8:56Speaker 1: one against the Giants where they've been terrible. But Barkley
- 8:59Speaker 1: had the fifteen yard Bigsby. I think will Shipley even
- 9:02Speaker 1: had a decent run in the first half, if I'm not.
- 9:05Speaker 3: Mistake seven think yeah yeah, yeah.
- 9:08Speaker 1: So so they had like some decent runs and they
- 9:11Speaker 1: were they were eighteen for seventy seven as a including
- 9:14Speaker 1: Jalen Hurts, by the way, who had a nice run.
- 9:16Speaker 1: He just happened to fumble at the end of it
- 9:18Speaker 1: was a really well designed call. One of those calls
- 9:20Speaker 1: has spread uh keeper quarterback keepers up the middle that
- 9:24Speaker 1: they used to do a lot. But when they were
- 9:26Speaker 1: empty right, yeah, red empty right up the middle of
- 9:28Speaker 1: a beautiful play call, I just just fumbled And I thought, Okay,
- 9:32Speaker 1: so this is a respectable run game that they've got
- 9:35Speaker 1: against a good Packers defensive front. So I would have
- 9:38Speaker 1: been alright with that even if the numbers weren't like
- 9:41Speaker 1: what they normally were. You're just looking for signs of
- 9:44Speaker 1: life again from the Eagles run game. But I think
- 9:46Speaker 1: where it was really disappointing was third quarter and fourth
- 9:49Speaker 1: quarter when you have that ten to nothing lead and
- 9:52Speaker 1: instead of getting even two and three yard grinded out runs,
- 9:55Speaker 1: you had minus six. You had minus two. I mean,
- 9:59Speaker 1: they were really good him backwards with the run game there,
- 10:02Speaker 1: and that's something that they're gonna have to figure out,
- 10:04Speaker 1: Adam as they go forward. They they did some they
- 10:07Speaker 1: continued to do some good things, which is going under center, right,
- 10:11Speaker 1: going jumbo, alternating between shotgun under center. They did run
- 10:16Speaker 1: on the outside a little bit, but they were clearly
- 10:18Speaker 1: too predictable in the and not executing in the third
- 10:22Speaker 1: and fourth quarter. Again, the offensive line plays a role
- 10:25Speaker 1: in that. Nick. You saw Lane Johnson get himself right
- 10:28Speaker 1: back on the field with the ankle injury because he
- 10:31Speaker 1: gets sense that they needed him. But you also saw
- 10:33Speaker 1: too many times where Barkley was hit as soon as
- 10:37Speaker 1: he's touching the ball. So they've got to figure out
- 10:40Speaker 1: ways when they do have a respectable run game latent games,
- 10:43Speaker 1: to be able to figure out the way to grind
- 10:44Speaker 1: the clock out, because had they lost this game, it
- 10:47Speaker 1: would have been because they couldn't get enough time off
- 10:51Speaker 1: the clock. When they were up ten to nothing, they
- 10:52Speaker 1: couldn't grind out more time off the clock.
- 10:56Speaker 3: Yeah, Laming miss twenty six snaps due to his ankle injury,
- 10:59Speaker 3: came back in the fourth quarter, did a good job
- 11:01Speaker 3: of toughing it out the injury. If you watch it,
- 11:03Speaker 3: I watched it like five or six times. I was
- 11:05Speaker 3: able to watch it doing breaks in the fourth quarter,
- 11:07Speaker 3: just to take a look at it.
- 11:09Speaker 2: He got hit in the side of his ankle. It
- 11:11Speaker 2: wasn't if you saw like when you see a high
- 11:13Speaker 2: ankle sprain he usually gets bent back. It wasn't bent
- 11:16Speaker 2: back quite like I saw originally live. I'm like, oh no,
- 11:19Speaker 2: it's higher up, but he didn't. It was on the
- 11:22Speaker 2: side of his ankle. And now it doesn't mean he's
- 11:24Speaker 2: going to practice a lot this week at all.
- 11:26Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean that was an ankle that was surgically repaired,
- 11:29Speaker 1: so you always get ordered to taped up.
- 11:30Speaker 2: You could see it heavily taped up. But you give
- 11:32Speaker 2: me a tight Oh okay, he was obviously, and Fred Johnson
- 11:36Speaker 2: what you know. It's funny the guy they traded away,
- 11:38Speaker 2: Darren Canard that trade has not worked out.
- 11:40Speaker 3: They got a six round pick.
- 11:41Speaker 2: When I say that, they could have clearly used him
- 11:44Speaker 2: this season in a variety of ways because he could
- 11:46Speaker 2: play garden tackle, but they had to make the trade
- 11:48Speaker 2: for Fred Johnson man as he become valuable. Holy smokes.
- 11:52Speaker 2: I mean they've certainly got a value out of that trade,
- 11:54Speaker 2: that part. But yeah, at a lot of twelve personnel
- 11:57Speaker 2: in this game. Kylon Grantson did play seventeen snaps on offense,
- 12:02Speaker 2: and Darris Cooper is back. You know he when he
- 12:04Speaker 2: plays it's almost always the block.
- 12:06Speaker 1: Yeah, I think he got hurt again, did he not.
- 12:08Speaker 3: He heard his shoulder came back in. Yeah, he came
- 12:09Speaker 3: back in. Yeah, but it's said he's had the shoulder problem.
- 12:12Speaker 2: Remember he was on IR So yeah, they look ten
- 12:15Speaker 2: points is not acceptable to anybody. We'll we'll find out
- 12:19Speaker 2: what the tape look like. How many players do they
- 12:21Speaker 2: leave on the field, Which place do they leave on
- 12:22Speaker 2: the field. Could have been better and good for Troy
- 12:24Speaker 2: Aikman to point out the Shivers have to come back
- 12:27Speaker 2: to the football.
- 12:27Speaker 1: Yes, this is You've been on that all year. By
- 12:30Speaker 1: the way, You've been really good in noticing that all.
- 12:32Speaker 2: It's really bad because Mahomes, they know how he plays
- 12:36Speaker 2: off schedule. Come back to the football, Okay, Josh Allen,
- 12:40Speaker 2: you really have to come back to the football. Lamar,
- 12:42Speaker 2: Sometimes you have to come back to the football. Justin
- 12:44Speaker 2: Herbert will do it. Uh In Dart, you have to
- 12:50Speaker 2: do it. He this is today's NFL.
- 12:52Speaker 3: Man. Come back to the damn football. I don't don't
- 12:55Speaker 3: wait for it.
- 12:55Speaker 2: That that's that's when Aaron Moore had the receivers coach
- 12:58Speaker 2: and Sirianni and you could say Patula, but it's more
- 13:01Speaker 2: Siriani and and more head to reach the receivers.
- 13:03Speaker 3: They have to do a better job of that.
- 13:05Speaker 1: I would agree with you, and I thought it was
- 13:06Speaker 1: pretty There were some some pretty obvious examples. You're right,
- 13:09Speaker 1: Akman pointed it out. On the flip side, DeVante Smith
- 13:12Speaker 1: continues to be the guy who comes up with all
- 13:16Speaker 1: the high level, high leverage catches, a huge touchdown really
- 13:22Speaker 1: one on one he is. He's become sort of Jalen
- 13:25Speaker 1: Hurts's one on one guy used to be AJ Brown.
- 13:28Speaker 1: I would really love to know if we did a
- 13:32Speaker 1: couple of weeks ago on inside the data with Sam
- 13:34Speaker 1: Finkel average separation stats, and there did it did show
- 13:38Speaker 1: a sign of a regression over the last few years
- 13:42Speaker 1: for A J. Brown in separation. But some of that
- 13:45Speaker 1: is contextual, some of us usage, the routes you're running.
- 13:48Speaker 1: And I continue to think that the coaching staff in general,
- 13:52Speaker 1: and it's easy to put it on Patula, but the
- 13:54Speaker 1: way you're used is also an entire offensive staff, not
- 13:57Speaker 1: just the play calling. I just it just doesn't seem
- 14:01Speaker 1: like the capitalize all the time on A J. Brown's strengths.
- 14:05Speaker 1: They don't try to get him routes as you always say,
- 14:08Speaker 1: the bangate or things underneath to get him to be
- 14:11Speaker 1: able to have long stride. But there may be a reality.
- 14:14Speaker 1: There may also be a reality here that he's no
- 14:17Speaker 1: longer the guy that he once was and that DeVante
- 14:20Speaker 1: Smith has replaced him. I mean that part is inarguable.
- 14:23Speaker 1: DeVante Smith is the number one receiver right now on
- 14:27Speaker 1: this team. He has been all year. He doesn't lead
- 14:29Speaker 1: it's even touchdown catches. Goddard does, but he believe he
- 14:32Speaker 1: leads the receivers in touchdown cat either not. He leads
- 14:35Speaker 1: him in receptions, receiving yards. And when every whenever the
- 14:38Speaker 1: Eagles get a big play, nine times out of ten,
- 14:41Speaker 1: it's DeVante Smith that goes back. What's that it goes
- 14:45Speaker 1: almost back to the super Bowl. I mean, he's just
- 14:47Speaker 1: become that guy.
- 14:49Speaker 2: But the Banga play, basically, it's a play that the
- 14:52Speaker 2: Titans ran for since AJ was there. It was a
- 14:55Speaker 2: it was a slant over the middle. You could do
- 14:57Speaker 2: it with play actually or not. But the bottom line
- 15:00Speaker 2: is they've done it here a little bit, not not
- 15:02Speaker 2: nearly enough. And you take advantage of A. J. Brown's build.
- 15:07Speaker 2: He's just he's just massive, got the massive arms, and
- 15:11Speaker 2: it's hard for DB's that we're smaller than him that
- 15:13Speaker 2: they like he swats away like flies. You know, it's
- 15:16Speaker 2: you can't do it. We know the numbers show and
- 15:19Speaker 2: the tape shows Hurts doesn't like to throw the ball
- 15:20Speaker 2: over the middle. That's not that's not an arguable point.
- 15:23Speaker 2: It's been a fact for five years. But every once
- 15:25Speaker 2: in a while he does it right.
- 15:27Speaker 1: He'll he'll throw the defined read ones right like off play.
- 15:32Speaker 3: I don't care how you do it.
- 15:33Speaker 1: And that's what I'm saying, Like they're not creating those
- 15:35Speaker 1: for aj.
- 15:35Speaker 3: Yeah, that's on.
- 15:36Speaker 2: That's on Patulo. I don't understand it exactly because they're
- 15:39Speaker 2: not calling it. They rarely call it.
- 15:41Speaker 3: It's uh, we know it.
- 15:43Speaker 2: Hurts is arguably right now the NFL's best deep ball thrower.
- 15:47Speaker 2: He's phenomenal at it. But there's just saying you can't
- 15:50Speaker 2: make your money on it. They made it in twenty two.
- 15:52Speaker 2: League had enough of it. They said they saw they're
- 15:53Speaker 2: going to take it away. Yeah, everyone, you know they
- 15:56Speaker 2: still do it every game. They hit one or two
- 15:58Speaker 2: of them shot plays. But that'll that'll he'll go from
- 16:01Speaker 2: eighty yards to one fifty. That's that's kind of what
- 16:04Speaker 2: happens on a couple of shot plays, but and there
- 16:07Speaker 2: are still there's still a low volume pass team, but
- 16:09Speaker 2: there's still meet on the bone, like Kurt says, there's
- 16:11Speaker 2: so much more they can do and need to do
- 16:14Speaker 2: if they want to get back to the super Bowl.
- 16:18Speaker 1: Yeah, I thought. I thought Jalen in general was I
- 16:21Speaker 1: think both quarterbacks you could say this about they were
- 16:23Speaker 1: just a little off. And I don't know if that
- 16:24Speaker 1: was weather field related wind. I mean Nick Sirianni talked
- 16:27Speaker 1: about the wind. But there are about three or four
- 16:29Speaker 1: throws that Jalen normally makes I would say outside the
- 16:33Speaker 1: numbers on either comebacks or or outs. Oh you know,
- 16:36Speaker 1: he's underthrew DeVonta Smith on one that was very on jail.
- 16:39Speaker 2: That had nothing to do with the weather. It didn't
- 16:41Speaker 2: look like to me. It looked like his arm angle
- 16:43Speaker 2: if you slow it down.
- 16:44Speaker 1: Yeah, he didn't.
- 16:45Speaker 2: It may have been he didn't get a clean step.
- 16:47Speaker 2: Is his his front his hip turn. It was weird
- 16:51Speaker 2: the way he finished.
- 16:52Speaker 3: Yeah, and you.
- 16:53Speaker 1: Saw somebody barreling down on him, right, I think, yeah.
- 16:56Speaker 2: Yeah, Boy asked Greg what he thought about that throw.
- 16:58Speaker 2: So yeah, I thought just the first half I was
- 17:01Speaker 2: talking to our Patreon people or Tier three level people,
- 17:05Speaker 2: but another sellout crowd.
- 17:06Speaker 3: By the way, Wow, that was great.
- 17:08Speaker 2: Clearly they yeah, they wanted to talk and we're probably
- 17:10Speaker 2: gonna do one month Sunday night. Uh maybe we'll play
- 17:13Speaker 2: everyone but for the Lions game. But uh yeah, the
- 17:17Speaker 2: first half was a slog. It just seemed like they
- 17:19Speaker 2: were their timing was off, where the defense didn't have
- 17:22Speaker 2: any problem coming off to buy had you added three
- 17:25Speaker 2: new players more or less. But yeah, the bottom line is,
- 17:28Speaker 2: and we'll move on to defense in a minute. There's
- 17:31Speaker 2: a lot of meat on the bone. Coaches always talk
- 17:32Speaker 2: about they love corrections because you see what teams are
- 17:35Speaker 2: trying to do to you. So you go, okay, they're
- 17:39Speaker 2: playing a ton of cover two are we're taking advantage
- 17:41Speaker 2: of the voids. There's voids in every single zone defense,
- 17:45Speaker 2: folks believe or not, there is. There's never coach who
- 17:47Speaker 2: worked in the NFL and said, oh, there's no there's
- 17:49Speaker 2: no openings. Bullshit their openings. Okay, it's totally complete nonsense
- 17:53Speaker 2: for people say guys aren't open.
- 17:56Speaker 3: You're going to find areas. You just have to exploit it.
- 17:58Speaker 2: And that's where coaching comes in and quarterback development that
- 18:02Speaker 2: they have to be better this is ten points is
- 18:04Speaker 2: not acceptable.
- 18:05Speaker 3: I get it.
- 18:05Speaker 2: Green Bays got a good defense. Ay Hobbs didn't play
- 18:07Speaker 2: by the way. That's a big deal, right, I mean
- 18:10Speaker 2: they did a good job green Bay, but that's ten
- 18:12Speaker 2: points will never be acceptable, no, of.
- 18:14Speaker 1: Course not, of course not. And then so we'll finish
- 18:18Speaker 1: off this on offense. I know Nick Sirianni doubled down,
- 18:22Speaker 1: and I expected them to do because coaches are process
- 18:24Speaker 1: oriented and not results oriented. They want to believe in
- 18:27Speaker 1: their process and think that if they do the same
- 18:30Speaker 1: call nine times out of ten, it's going to work.
- 18:32Speaker 1: But I just more so the end of the game
- 18:37Speaker 1: than the end of the first I didn't love the
- 18:38Speaker 1: conservative nature at the end of the first half. I mean,
- 18:40Speaker 1: you had you had an opportunity to put points on
- 18:43Speaker 1: the board. It was third and what six, I think
- 18:45Speaker 1: I forget what it was. I mean, you still have
- 18:48Speaker 1: some seconds left there. I just thought that they didn't
- 18:52Speaker 1: have to get as conservative as they did. You know,
- 18:54Speaker 1: they don't turn the ball over and hurts it fumbled,
- 18:56Speaker 1: it's not like you've been throwing interceptions. Are close to it.
- 18:59Speaker 3: By the way, he kind of poked out that, I
- 19:01Speaker 3: don't put that on hurts. That was a great defensive play.
- 19:03Speaker 1: It was a great to play. But I mean it's
- 19:05Speaker 1: you have to no.
- 19:06Speaker 2: But the thing is, it wasn't we've seen when he's
- 19:08Speaker 2: been all quarterbacks really who fumble right, the sloppy with
- 19:12Speaker 2: the way that they hold it. It was just it
- 19:14Speaker 2: was a really good defensive play. I didn't have a
- 19:16Speaker 2: problem with it like other people might have. There are
- 19:18Speaker 2: times when you could you could put it on the quarterback,
- 19:20Speaker 2: but I wasn't.
- 19:21Speaker 1: A fair enough fair enough But after that, I just
- 19:25Speaker 1: thought it was a little uh just I thought that
- 19:28Speaker 1: they could have gone for the jugular a little bit
- 19:30Speaker 1: more there at the end of the first half.
- 19:32Speaker 3: Right, yeah, I do. And just you know, I like that.
- 19:35Speaker 2: They have what's called the flat pass. So with Goddard,
- 19:37Speaker 2: that's the new thing where basically it gets hurts. This
- 19:40Speaker 2: is what I've been asking for for two seasons. Get
- 19:42Speaker 2: it hurts, to get rid of the football faster.
- 19:45Speaker 3: Right, how do you do it?
- 19:46Speaker 2: Flat short area passes in the flat that's called a
- 19:49Speaker 2: flat pass. Get it out of his hands to Goddard
- 19:52Speaker 2: got it with his size and his athletic ability. It's
- 19:55Speaker 2: it's pitching cash like keep doing it it's okay, and
- 19:58Speaker 2: then they're gonna start playing a tight so then expand
- 20:01Speaker 2: the pass the game a little bit. But I think
- 20:02Speaker 2: sometimes they skip steps with their with with their vertical routes.
- 20:05Speaker 2: They sometimes it's kind of like they've they've done it
- 20:08Speaker 2: since twenty three. Okay, three verts, let's let's run guys
- 20:12Speaker 2: deep and then we'll we'll try to find somebody like
- 20:15Speaker 2: that's that that take what you can get that that's
- 20:18Speaker 2: getting God and A J.
- 20:20Speaker 3: Brown in the shirt area. But they need to do
- 20:21Speaker 3: a better job of it.
- 20:22Speaker 1: Yeah. I mean it was third and six and there
- 20:24Speaker 1: was I think there was like thirty five seconds. Oh no, no,
- 20:27Speaker 1: there was less than that. But it's third and six
- 20:30Speaker 1: and you ran a draw to will Shipley. I mean
- 20:32Speaker 1: that that's a submission play, Like could you.
- 20:35Speaker 2: Like that question? I listened to Prayer. I could tell
- 20:37Speaker 2: he was not happy. He's just they're questioning that, I
- 20:40Speaker 2: hear now. Now see the argument is, well, they've hit
- 20:43Speaker 2: they've gotten that play before over the last couple of years,
- 20:44Speaker 2: where they've run a draw.
- 20:46Speaker 1: You know, on on third and I would argue that
- 20:49Speaker 1: they've hit more. You know, I go back to like
- 20:51Speaker 1: the NFC Championshiame is Washington was fourth and whatever, and
- 20:54Speaker 1: they throw a deep down the left sideline and get
- 20:56Speaker 1: when they you know, like, yeah, I mean, but even
- 20:59Speaker 1: if you want to submit, could you throw a screen
- 21:01Speaker 1: like there's something a chance that has a chance right screen?
- 21:03Speaker 3: Okay, a little bit more. I hear it, right, yeah,
- 21:06Speaker 3: I hear it, all right, all.
- 21:07Speaker 1: Right, but really the end of the end of the
- 21:09Speaker 1: fourth I mean, I I will never understand because even
- 21:13Speaker 1: in his answer, you know, the decision to go for
- 21:15Speaker 1: it on fourth down and throw the ball gets thrown. Aja,
- 21:18Speaker 1: it doesn't really put up a whole fight for it.
- 21:20Speaker 1: But Nick's answer was it was windy. I was afraid
- 21:24Speaker 1: of the field goal. I mean Nick Jake Elliot's kick
- 21:26Speaker 1: him pretty fairweather kicks or bad weather kicks before. But
- 21:32Speaker 1: he didn't even mention the idea that he could punt.
- 21:34Speaker 1: He was basically like, either I was going to go
- 21:36Speaker 1: for it or a fueld goal, Like why would a
- 21:39Speaker 1: punt been bad? Because you're afraid about it? He could
- 21:42Speaker 1: all get into the twenty. Well, they haven't scored, they
- 21:44Speaker 1: haven't moved the ball efficiently against your defense all game. Loe,
- 21:47Speaker 1: you almost showed no faith in the defense that won
- 21:49Speaker 1: the game for you.
- 21:50Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 21:51Speaker 1: I just I didn't understand it.
- 21:52Speaker 3: Yeah, from a staff count standpoint. Just a couple of
- 21:54Speaker 3: notes here which I thought were interesting. Kakota played a lot.
- 21:57Speaker 3: He played twenty five that they had sixty three offensive snaps.
- 22:00Speaker 3: Kutara played forty percent of them, twenty five of them.
- 22:03Speaker 2: Grantson played they rarely throw it to him, but he played.
- 22:07Speaker 2: He played seventeen snaps. So again, they played a lot
- 22:10Speaker 2: of twelve personnel. Shipley at twelve, Dearris Cooper at eleven,
- 22:14Speaker 2: which is interesting.
- 22:14Speaker 3: Bigsby only at eight.
- 22:15Speaker 2: Well, you don't play a lot anyway, lots of it's
- 22:17Speaker 2: really interesting, lots of I believe started on the opening play,
- 22:19Speaker 2: but only in five.
- 22:20Speaker 3: Yeah, as the fullback. And I did I know it.
- 22:23Speaker 2: I saw Zavid Gibson in the first half and like
- 22:25Speaker 2: eighty seven, who, like is that MATCHI?
- 22:26Speaker 3: But he's gone? Who is that? Oh it's Gibson.
- 22:28Speaker 1: Yeah, he plays the MESI role now where he gets
- 22:30Speaker 1: like one target every who knows how long he gets
- 22:34Speaker 1: trot off the.
- 22:34Speaker 3: Field right off that one play.
- 22:37Speaker 2: So yeah, and the other that got herd played a
- 22:39Speaker 2: ton of snap fifty four six percent.
- 22:41Speaker 3: Snaps and that was it for offense.
- 22:44Speaker 1: Hey, it's Jeff Mosher. And if you have a family

- 25:25Speaker 1: was a heavy twelve personnel. I think they clearly wanted
- 25:28Speaker 1: to try to get the run game going. You could
- 25:30Speaker 1: tell both coaches and we'll get to defense in a second.
- 25:32Speaker 1: We're not thrilled with trying to move the ball through
- 25:35Speaker 1: the air until they absolutely had to. And that was
- 25:38Speaker 1: just the case.
- 25:39Speaker 2: So yeah, I think what happened was but I think
- 25:41Speaker 2: what happened was like they're trying and just to whatever
- 25:45Speaker 2: it is, they're just not insanc. The wind didn't have
- 25:48Speaker 2: anything to do with the throws on the first half.
- 25:49Speaker 2: They just timing was off for whatever reason. They just
- 25:52Speaker 2: seem like they throw us there or wasn't there. Guy
- 25:56Speaker 2: was late the target.
- 25:58Speaker 3: He went there.
- 26:00Speaker 2: From the Eagle standpoint. And then let's get to the defense.
- 26:03Speaker 2: And Eagles pass rush was phenomenal. It's not just about stacks,
- 26:06Speaker 2: it's about well, there's a coaching term. It's it's it's
- 26:10Speaker 2: in the same vein as quarterback pressures. It's they're called
- 26:13Speaker 2: quality rushers. The defensive line coaches I've talked to over
- 26:15Speaker 2: the years use they use the term quality rush QR.
- 26:17Speaker 3: QR. Quality rush you actually have.
- 26:20Speaker 2: To move the quarterback, whereas on on a quarterback pressure
- 26:24Speaker 2: you don't necessarily have to do that.
- 26:25Speaker 3: That's with the stat services. That's where coaches have an
- 26:28Speaker 3: issue with it.
- 26:29Speaker 2: They want the numbers and they'll they'll they'll use their
- 26:31Speaker 2: own eyes to see if they're legitimate, but they use them.
- 26:34Speaker 2: But Jalen Phillip showed up. I mean he had he
- 26:37Speaker 2: was there. He had a great debut. I don't know
- 26:39Speaker 2: how much he could ask for from this guy.
- 26:41Speaker 1: Yeah, forced fumble, fumble recovery that, he had six tackles,
- 26:45Speaker 1: several pressures. He and he played right. He played where
- 26:48Speaker 1: he played a lot in Miami until this year and
- 26:50Speaker 1: this year in Miami he was playing inside a lot.
- 26:52Speaker 1: But he played across the right tackle Jelex Hunt. Interestingly,
- 26:58Speaker 1: even though no Smith started, Nolan Smith didn't play nearly
- 27:02Speaker 1: as many snaps as Jaloks Hunt. And I thought Jaloks
- 27:05Speaker 1: Hunt showed up well. And this is three straight weeks now.
- 27:07Speaker 1: I mean Hunt going back to the pick six against
- 27:09Speaker 1: the Vikings. He had the big sack against the Giants,
- 27:12Speaker 1: and I thought he played actively against the run. I
- 27:14Speaker 1: thought he was good, stirred good pressure. Clearly with Nolan
- 27:18Speaker 1: Smith coming back at him, they weren't trying to overwork him,
- 27:21Speaker 1: especially with Hunt playing well. But it really was, like
- 27:24Speaker 1: we've said along, Vic is usually a three man rotation guy,
- 27:27Speaker 1: and the people the casualties of that were that Josh
- 27:31Speaker 1: Rouchi I think was basically on special teams and Brandon Graham. Yeah,
- 27:35Speaker 1: Branda Graham played a smattering of snaps, more so at
- 27:38Speaker 1: the end of the game. But it was really that
- 27:39Speaker 1: three man rotation of Jelyox, of Jalen Phillips, Jelks Hunt,
- 27:44Speaker 1: and Nolan Smith that carried the torch there.
- 27:48Speaker 3: Yeah, Phillips played a ton of snaps. Out of their
- 27:50Speaker 3: sixty eight defensive snaps, he had fifty three, so but
- 27:54Speaker 3: obviously he's in game shape. He's been playing for the Dolphins,
- 27:56Speaker 3: so yeah, yeah.
- 27:57Speaker 2: Hunt played a lot, had of sixty eight snaps. Nolan
- 28:01Speaker 2: Smith only nineteen out of sixty eight because it was
- 28:03Speaker 2: his first game back and he was impactful. He he
- 28:06Speaker 2: had some good plays there, no question about it. BG
- 28:08Speaker 2: only had ten as he gets himself into football shape.
- 28:12Speaker 3: The I'm just looking at defensive line. Shit. I don't
- 28:15Speaker 3: know why this happened.
- 28:15Speaker 2: It's odd because in a run time, in a game
- 28:18Speaker 2: of where they're trying to run, because Green Bay Matt
- 28:20Speaker 2: lafort is all about balance and it catches up to
- 28:22Speaker 2: him sometimes and this game he did trying to run
- 28:24Speaker 2: the ball too much.
- 28:26Speaker 3: Jordan Davis only played.
- 28:27Speaker 2: Twenty one snaps forty three percent, so he played less
- 28:30Speaker 2: than fifty percent. That I don't know why that happened. Ojoma,
- 28:34Speaker 2: by the way, more Ojomo had at least three quality rushes.
- 28:36Speaker 3: He had one.
- 28:37Speaker 2: We're like, holy, so did he jump the snap? I
- 28:39Speaker 2: was like, holy smokes. Yeah he looked good.
- 28:42Speaker 1: He also played a good run defense I thought for
- 28:44Speaker 1: the most part.
- 28:45Speaker 2: Yeah, he looked good, no doubt about it. Nikobe had
- 28:48Speaker 2: some plays. Now they what The only issue I had
- 28:51Speaker 2: with the defense is some of the they had some
- 28:54Speaker 2: they had some leakage in the run defense. It wasn't terrible,
- 28:57Speaker 2: but Josh Jacobs, who's not really explosive, and it'll show.
- 29:01Speaker 3: Three point five yards per rush. That's not the point.
- 29:03Speaker 2: The point is, if you're watching closely, there were some
- 29:06Speaker 2: times they were not the right gap where they just
- 29:08Speaker 2: they tackled air, but they didn't tackle the ball carrier.
- 29:12Speaker 3: You know, Love is a very deceptive runner.
- 29:14Speaker 2: He's he can run a little bit and he had
- 29:16Speaker 2: a big twelve yarder, didn't. I mean, it wasn't like
- 29:19Speaker 2: they got killed against the run, but there's some some
- 29:21Speaker 2: runs and they had one special team's gaff early in
- 29:25Speaker 2: terms of a return, they could have done a better job.
- 29:27Speaker 2: But you know, overall though they only gave up seven. Yep,
- 29:31Speaker 2: the d Lin brought it this road. I'll tell you what, man,
- 29:34Speaker 2: you again, you're adding three players going forward now BG
- 29:38Speaker 2: to a much lesser extent. It's it's just not going
- 29:40Speaker 2: to play Looff because as you said, they've got the
- 29:43Speaker 2: three guys you're going to rotate with. Hunt didn't look
- 29:45Speaker 2: like he played a lot in nickel. But we'll ask
- 29:48Speaker 2: Greg about what he usually his guys at at NFL
- 29:51Speaker 2: films usually chart that stuff.
- 29:53Speaker 3: But it's going to work and it allows because you
- 29:57Speaker 3: have this depth.
- 29:57Speaker 2: Now you get Nolan Smith to be able to get
- 30:00Speaker 2: this condition back Beiji obsolutely has been out for nine months.
- 30:03Speaker 2: You get to do that, and you bring in a
- 30:05Speaker 2: guy like Phillips who has guys no weakness. It's just
- 30:09Speaker 2: is he backed totally everything we were told. He's eighty
- 30:11Speaker 2: nine percent back from a tape study from someone told
- 30:13Speaker 2: us coming back from his second major lower leg injury.
- 30:18Speaker 2: But he looked he was impactful. You couldn't tell it.
- 30:20Speaker 2: He didn't looked on hundred percent. He was great.
- 30:22Speaker 3: And all he gave up was a third round pick
- 30:26Speaker 3: for that.
- 30:26Speaker 2: And I think by the way I believe they gave
- 30:27Speaker 2: up there is not not the the better of the
- 30:30Speaker 2: third rounder.
- 30:31Speaker 1: Right right, that's correct. I think Johan Campbell got in
- 30:34Speaker 1: there as a nickel edge a couple of times, not
- 30:37Speaker 1: a whole lot. The couple of rushes that I saw
- 30:40Speaker 1: in that regard, it didn't look like he's he's as
- 30:43Speaker 1: refined as the others. He's still really coming along as
- 30:46Speaker 1: an edge rusher in the four man front. It's not
- 30:48Speaker 1: his strength right now. He did have that Unfortunately the
- 30:51Speaker 1: DPI in the fourth quarter there, but he got that
- 30:55Speaker 1: was definitely yeah, yeah, no doubt about it. But he
- 30:58Speaker 1: clearly is getting caught as Vic Fangio, and I can
- 31:03Speaker 1: understand this. Vic Fangio is playing Nikobe Dean. Nikobe's playing
- 31:07Speaker 1: well as an off ball linebacker in the nickel. He's
- 31:11Speaker 1: diagnosing well. I think that's the biggest difference that you
- 31:13Speaker 1: can see his ability to key diagnose, get the front set,
- 31:17Speaker 1: get the back set, and he blitzed. You know, it's
- 31:21Speaker 1: even though that Campbell is the better athlete and a
- 31:23Speaker 1: great blitzer from an off ball linebacker spot, Nikoby's always
- 31:26Speaker 1: been a really good blitzer going back to Georgia, and
- 31:29Speaker 1: you know, we were curious, everybody was. You and I
- 31:31Speaker 1: were curious, could he come back from that devastating Pateller
- 31:36Speaker 1: tendon injury and be the same player, And he looks
- 31:39Speaker 1: pretty good. I gotta say, I understand why Vick is
- 31:42Speaker 1: doing what he's doing, because he brings It's not like
- 31:44Speaker 1: you're losing a whole lot by putting the stability and
- 31:47Speaker 1: the experience on the field. You're not losing too much
- 31:50Speaker 1: in the athleticism department because he's making plays against the
- 31:53Speaker 1: run and in the blitz.
- 31:55Speaker 3: Again. Remember, Nikobe's on the fine of his rookie deal.
- 31:57Speaker 2: If he's not if he doesn't come back here, he's
- 31:59Speaker 2: auditioning for other teams, and man, he's putting up a
- 32:01Speaker 2: pretty damn good audition.
- 32:02Speaker 3: Really remarkable. So so in terms of snapcounts, so Jomo
- 32:06Speaker 3: of the sixty eight snaps, he had forty seven sixty
- 32:09Speaker 3: nine percent of the snaps. Uh.
- 32:12Speaker 2: Jalen Phillips fifty three out of sixty eight. He played
- 32:14Speaker 2: a ton Jalen Carter sixty three out of sixty eight.
- 32:17Speaker 1: Two huge passes, battles, Oh.
- 32:21Speaker 2: Yeah, past his past his defense. Yeah wow, he gets
- 32:24Speaker 2: your hands up. Yeah, did a great job there. He
- 32:26Speaker 2: looked healthy. He his motor his his physical strength. He
- 32:31Speaker 2: does to me he's a more athletic and Dominicancou He
- 32:34Speaker 2: really Sue's bigger, but man, just the way that he
- 32:39Speaker 2: the violence with their hands just just incredible.
- 32:43Speaker 3: Uh. And job Campbell still played a lot. He played.
- 32:46Speaker 3: He played half of the defensive snaps.
- 32:47Speaker 2: He played thirty four percent of the sixty thirty four
- 32:50Speaker 2: STAPs of the sixty eight Uh.
- 32:53Speaker 3: Noel Smith, though, I think the key is he looked good.
- 32:56Speaker 3: He was.
- 32:56Speaker 2: He was impactful in his nineteen snaps. So their front
- 32:59Speaker 2: not on wood. They're really healthy and they're really deep
- 33:02Speaker 2: right now.
- 33:02Speaker 1: Yeah, I would say of the of the guys that
- 33:04Speaker 1: really stood out to me watching the game was would
- 33:06Speaker 1: be obviously Jayalen Phillips and the Joe Wall. I thought
- 33:08Speaker 1: a Joe Will played a really smart, fundamentally sound game
- 33:11Speaker 1: in the middle. He was caught enough. You heard like
- 33:13Speaker 1: he called out that inside. Yeah, Packers tried to run,
- 33:17Speaker 1: so he was clearly all over everything, and that was
- 33:19Speaker 1: a really good game for him. On the back end.
- 33:22Speaker 1: At him, man Quinya mitchell I had three enormous PBUs
- 33:26Speaker 1: I mean he and again for the third, third or
- 33:30Speaker 1: fourth game. It amazes me. I'm almost frustrated as a
- 33:34Speaker 1: football observer, you know, take the teams out of it.
- 33:37Speaker 1: That I like Matt Lafleur. I've always thought he was
- 33:40Speaker 1: a good play caller and has a good feel for
- 33:41Speaker 1: the game, but he infuriated me as a play call
- 33:44Speaker 1: I thought, as you have said many times, and he's
- 33:47Speaker 1: known to be a conservative guy, but man like you
- 33:51Speaker 1: took your quarterback and essentially neutered him in the first
- 33:54Speaker 1: half of that game. You didn't start throwing until you
- 33:56Speaker 1: were down ten nothing, and then all of a sudden
- 33:58Speaker 1: you start making some plays, right, surprise, surprise, But you
- 34:01Speaker 1: had an opportunity to go after Dorry Jackson. He got
- 34:05Speaker 1: he got beat on a deep over by Dobbs who
- 34:07Speaker 1: just dropped the ball. I mean, the whole passing game
- 34:09Speaker 1: for the Packers was out of rhythm because they probably
- 34:11Speaker 1: sit there and watch the coach style up one run
- 34:15Speaker 1: after another, one run up the gut after another, after
- 34:17Speaker 1: another after another. There was some time at one point
- 34:20Speaker 1: after the end of the first I think it was
- 34:21Speaker 1: nine runs and four passes, and I'm just like perplexed.
- 34:26Speaker 1: I mean maybe, And to me, Jordan Love never looked comfortable.
- 34:29Speaker 1: And I don't know if it's because the Eagles were
- 34:31Speaker 1: that good or because his coach never lets him throw
- 34:34Speaker 1: two passes in a row ever, just he never looked
- 34:38Speaker 1: comfortable in the pocket to me.
- 34:40Speaker 2: Which is funny because he got the fourth finally go
- 34:43Speaker 2: out of his own skin against Pittsburgh when I think
- 34:45Speaker 2: Love went twenty for twenty in the fourth quarter.
- 34:47Speaker 1: Yeah, and the.
- 34:48Speaker 3: Media was so shocked there, like why did you keep
- 34:51Speaker 3: throwing goes?
- 34:51Speaker 2: Because he goes. He was so good Love. Jordan Love
- 34:55Speaker 2: was so good. He's like, I just kept calling it
- 34:57Speaker 2: because they could. He was unstoppable. Look, he didn't well
- 35:00Speaker 2: doing love with jittery. Eagles made him jittery. They clapsed
- 35:03Speaker 2: the pocket a lot. Remember Elton Jenkins got hurt. He
- 35:06Speaker 2: had a broken lower leg, so he's obviously going to
- 35:09Speaker 2: be out for the rest of the regular season if not. Yeah,
- 35:12Speaker 2: that was a big injury. And and uh that that
- 35:16Speaker 2: had helped him. Then drops in the game, boy Bo Melton,
- 35:19Speaker 2: terrible drop on a critical third down.
- 35:21Speaker 3: Awful, that was a bad one. A bunch of dobbs.
- 35:24Speaker 3: You got to make that catch.
- 35:25Speaker 2: Dobs one up getting he he he left the game,
- 35:27Speaker 2: didn't get it, didn't come back.
- 35:29Speaker 3: That's why Wiz started getting the ball.
- 35:30Speaker 2: He was playing with the minor caffstrain he played through
- 35:33Speaker 2: at give him credit. And you saw the effect of
- 35:35Speaker 2: not having Tucker Craft. Tucker Craft might be the NFL's
- 35:38Speaker 2: best runner for the catch tight end. He's unbelievable, yep.
- 35:41Speaker 2: But Luke Musgrave is not him. And that's it's It's
- 35:44Speaker 2: funny because they were in the same draft and must
- 35:46Speaker 2: Graves drafted higher. But they are where they are and
- 35:50Speaker 2: the Eagles. Youles have a The Eagles defensive roster now
- 35:53Speaker 2: is fortified with these new players.
- 35:56Speaker 1: Yeah, but how good was Quinn? And I thought Reid
- 35:58Speaker 1: Blank has just tackled now just a stud in this game.
- 36:02Speaker 1: For whatever reason, they went after him, and that was
- 36:04Speaker 1: that was a bad You've.
- 36:05Speaker 3: Got to start talking about him as an all pro.
- 36:07Speaker 3: I see.
- 36:08Speaker 2: The thing is, yeah, it does he gives up the
- 36:10Speaker 2: share of plays. Is he does get a casual penalty?
- 36:12Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 36:13Speaker 2: Yeah, well no one is droll Revas. Okay like that.
- 36:16Speaker 2: The island is one thing. We've got island.
- 36:21Speaker 3: So to speak.
- 36:21Speaker 2: But he's just uh, it's just so funny because so
- 36:26Speaker 2: many teams were so worried about his inability to play
- 36:28Speaker 2: man coverature, which by the way, he's phenomenal at it.
- 36:30Speaker 3: He didn't play it Toledo doesn't mean he can't.
- 36:34Speaker 2: And the Eagles were satisfied after they saw him at
- 36:36Speaker 2: the Senior Brow like, we're good, We're good. We don't
- 36:38Speaker 2: care that he went to Toledo. They judged the player,
- 36:41Speaker 2: not the jersey. That's the Bill Poleon line he told
- 36:44Speaker 2: me about years ago. He goes, that's when when you
- 36:47Speaker 2: paralyze yourself, you're worried about the system or where he
- 36:50Speaker 2: played rather than the performance, you know, And yeah, that's
- 36:54Speaker 2: the point.
- 36:54Speaker 1: Reminds me of also the way, God it was never
- 36:56Speaker 1: a blocker in college. It was it was this flexed
- 36:59Speaker 1: tight end. And then all comes to the NFL and
- 37:01Speaker 1: he's like, hey, this guy can actually block really.
- 37:03Speaker 4: Really really well really well, no figure, I mean he should.
- 37:07Speaker 4: He's a huge individual who is strong, but he never
- 37:10Speaker 4: was asked to do it. Just like Quinnyon. He's fast
- 37:12Speaker 4: and he's physical. I mean he should be like your.
- 37:15Speaker 1: Proto type press man press corner, but he just wasn't
- 37:20Speaker 1: asked to do it. And everything else he did, he
- 37:22Speaker 1: did it an elite level. So yeah, you're right.
- 37:24Speaker 2: And the other thing is, which I really really like
- 37:27Speaker 2: for a young player, he doesn't let a play bother him.
- 37:30Speaker 2: It's okay, next play. Yeah, you have to forget about
- 37:33Speaker 2: it when you're playing corner. When you're on that island,
- 37:35Speaker 2: you're gonna get beat. Darius Slave's talking it forever. Man,
- 37:38Speaker 2: you just can't worry about it's gonna happen. You're gonna
- 37:39Speaker 2: get beat. He's perfect. You just that's play and he's
- 37:43Speaker 2: pretty special.
- 37:45Speaker 3: Boy.
- 37:45Speaker 2: It's this defense is rounding in the form here. If
- 37:48Speaker 2: they don't have any catastrophic injuries, they've got it. They've
- 37:52Speaker 2: really deep. It's just the now we'll see about Alexander.
- 37:56Speaker 2: It's really with Alexander, it's just more from he just
- 37:58Speaker 2: got there. He's got to learn the defense. He said it,
- 38:00Speaker 2: and aren't understanding as It's true, it's not the need
- 38:04Speaker 2: with him right now. It's his understanding of the defense.
- 38:05Speaker 2: He just got there, and they play very specific style
- 38:09Speaker 2: of coverage and zone the match Carrie delivery.
- 38:11Speaker 3: It's not for everyone.
- 38:14Speaker 2: Jakorin Bennett didn't quite get it, you know, before he
- 38:17Speaker 2: got hurt, before he had a pictorial strain.
- 38:19Speaker 3: And it's coming up this week.
- 38:21Speaker 2: They've got the deadline to activate him, so we'll see
- 38:23Speaker 2: what happens there. But boy, if he could get on
- 38:25Speaker 2: the roster, their depth is looking better.
- 38:27Speaker 1: Yeah. It's one of the reasons I think to last
- 38:29Speaker 1: year's success, why these were so good so quickly when
- 38:31Speaker 1: they put Cooper to gene in to the defense, because
- 38:34Speaker 1: his understanding, going back to Iowa of those zone principles
- 38:38Speaker 1: that Vic Fangio preaches that Iowa has been running for
- 38:41Speaker 1: fifteen years, was such a natural fit that you know,
- 38:44Speaker 1: the only thing I held him back was the hamstring injury.
- 38:46Speaker 1: It wasn't really knowledge of the defense. He was able
- 38:50Speaker 1: to get in there and make an immediate impact because
- 38:52Speaker 1: he played in that kind of similar zone style of
- 38:55Speaker 1: defense in on Iowa. So that's really helpful if you've
- 38:58Speaker 1: not played in it to your point, or or only
- 39:01Speaker 1: have a little experience, it's tough. It's tough to learn
- 39:03Speaker 1: in just one week. So we'll have to to see.
- 39:06Speaker 3: Oh, michaeok real quick.
- 39:07Speaker 2: Michael Carter had one defensive snap, and so did Sitting Brown.
- 39:12Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I wonder when they came in. I didn't
- 39:13Speaker 1: they must have.
- 39:15Speaker 3: Yeah, I didn't see him.
- 39:16Speaker 1: I bet Brown was probably not a goal line pat
- 39:18Speaker 1: like and when the when the when the Packers got
- 39:20Speaker 1: closer to you know, on that last play that Jacob
- 39:23Speaker 1: scored a touchdown, Yeah, might have been might have been there.
- 39:26Speaker 2: And Ringo, who's they don't clearly don't want to use.
- 39:28Speaker 2: He played He did play four steps in defense. That's
- 39:30Speaker 2: because uh, Quinn came out right when you get hurt,
- 39:33Speaker 2: yeah he yeah, but quentyn On came back. So yeah,
- 39:35Speaker 2: that's that's kind of where they're at. And uh, at
- 39:38Speaker 2: bottom line as they won. Really looking forward to Detroit
- 39:41Speaker 2: and Dan Campbell coming in. Dan Campbell took the plays
- 39:43Speaker 2: away from John Morton. We'll we'll talk more about that
- 39:47Speaker 2: on our next show.
- 39:49Speaker 1: We have all of our normally UH skilled shows, and
- 39:51Speaker 1: I agree with you, this is gonna be a very
- 39:53Speaker 1: interesting week leading up to short turn around against the Lions.
- 39:56Speaker 1: With the status of Lane Johnson not certain. We you
- 40:00Speaker 1: have no idea of Cam Jurgens. We'll be able to
- 40:02Speaker 1: be back, but very encouraging signs for the Philadelphia Eagles
- 40:06Speaker 1: defense coming out of this ten to seven win over
- 40:08Speaker 1: the Packers. That's gonna do it for the Inside the
- 40:10Speaker 1: Birds postgame show for Adam Kaplan. I'm Jeff Mosher. Thanks
- 40:14Speaker 1: for watching. We'll catch you on the next one.
