- 0:01SPEAKER_00: Hello, Christians.
- 0:02SPEAKER_00: This is Dallas Beacham, and I have good news.
- 0:08SPEAKER_00: On Pentecost, the promise was poured out in Jerusalem, but it did not stay there.
- 0:16SPEAKER_00: Jesus had said his witnesses would go from Jerusalem to Judea, to Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
- 0:26SPEAKER_00: And that's exactly what happened.
- 0:29SPEAKER_00: In Samaria, Philip preached Christ.
- 0:32SPEAKER_00: The people believed and were baptized.
- 0:35SPEAKER_00: Then Peter and John came and prayed for them.
- 0:39SPEAKER_00: Then laid they their hands on them and they received the Holy Ghost.
- 0:45SPEAKER_00: The promise crossed an old wall of prejudice between Jews and Samaritans.
- 0:51SPEAKER_00: Then God sent Peter to the home of Cornelius, a Gentile centurion.
- 0:57SPEAKER_00: Peter had never entered such a home to preach the gospel.
- 1:02SPEAKER_00: But God was showing him that no nation was beyond the reach of grace.
- 1:08SPEAKER_00: While Peter was still speaking about Jesus, something happened that no one in the house could deny.
- 1:17SPEAKER_00: While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word.
- 1:24SPEAKER_00: The Jewish believers were astonished, for they heard them speak with tongues and magnify God.
- 1:32SPEAKER_00: Then Peter asked, Can any man forbid water that these should not be baptized which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we?
- 1:43SPEAKER_00: The promise crossed another boundary.
- 1:46SPEAKER_00: The gospel was for the Gentiles too.
- 1:50SPEAKER_00: Years later, Paul came to Ephesus and met certain disciples.
- 1:56SPEAKER_00: He asked them, have you received the Holy Ghost since you believed?
- 2:01SPEAKER_00: After they heard the fuller message, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
- 2:08SPEAKER_00: And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them, and they spoke with tongues and prophesied Jerusalem, Samaria, the house of the Gentile Cornelius, the followers of John the Baptist at Ephesus, different places, different people, the same faithful God.
- 2:34SPEAKER_00: The book of Acts is not merely a record of human achievement.
- 2:39SPEAKER_00: It recounts the risen Christ continuing his work through spirit filled witnesses.
- 2:47SPEAKER_00: The Father's promise gave frightened disciples boldness, brought divided people into one fellowship, and carried the name of Jesus across the ancient world.
- 2:59SPEAKER_00: And the promise still speaks to us.
- 3:03SPEAKER_00: Peter said it was for all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.
- 3:11SPEAKER_00: We are among those who were afar off.
- 3:14SPEAKER_00: We have heard the gospel because someone carried it beyond Jerusalem.
- 3:19SPEAKER_00: Someone crossed a border, someone entered and endured hardship, someone believed that the good news was meant for every nation and every generation.
- 3:31SPEAKER_00: Now the question comes to us.
- 3:34SPEAKER_00: Will we only admire the faith of the early church?
- 3:39SPEAKER_00: Or will we seek the God they served?
- 3:42SPEAKER_00: Will we only read the promise or will we believe it?
- 3:47SPEAKER_00: Will we keep the good news to ourselves or will we become witnesses?
- 3:53SPEAKER_00: God is still calling people to repentance.
- 3:56SPEAKER_00: The name of Jesus is still being proclaimed.
- 4:00SPEAKER_00: Baptism still declares faith in the crucified and risen Christ.
- 4:05SPEAKER_00: The Holy Ghost is still God's gift to those who obey Him.
- 4:11SPEAKER_00: The promise was spoken by the prophets.
- 4:15SPEAKER_00: It was announced by John the Baptist.
- 4:18SPEAKER_00: It was taught by Jesus.
- 4:20SPEAKER_00: It was fulfilled at Pentecost.
- 4:23SPEAKER_00: And it was carried to the world.
- 4:26SPEAKER_00: That is more than history.
- 4:28SPEAKER_00: The promise is for you.
- 4:31SPEAKER_00: That is good news.
- 4:33SPEAKER_00: I hope today's message has touched your heart and causes you to have a good day.
