- 0:01Speaker 1: Welcome to Dirty Rush, The Truth about Sorority Life with
- 0:04Speaker 1: your hosts me Gia Judice.
- 0:06Speaker 2: Daisy Kent, and Jennifer Kessler.
- 0:11Speaker 3: Okay, everyone, welcome back to Dirty Rush. And today we're
- 0:15Speaker 3: talking to some anonymous sorority girls that we have here.
- 0:20Speaker 3: Would anyone like to say their actual name or do
- 0:23Speaker 3: we want to keep it anonymous.
- 0:25Speaker 4: I'll say my name.
- 0:26Speaker 2: I'm Kiddy.
- 0:29Speaker 5: Oh, I'm gonna go with.
- 0:32Speaker 3: No.
- 0:32Speaker 5: I'm the producer.
- 0:34Speaker 2: She's so I think I'll say my name.
- 0:39Speaker 4: I'm Lauren, I'm Gracie.
- 0:43Speaker 6: I can say a fake name.
- 0:48Speaker 2: We're gonna be like no, and then I'd be like, Okay,
- 0:53Speaker 2: explain why.
- 0:54Speaker 5: Here's why we're being so mysterious.
- 0:56Speaker 3: Okay, So we are gonna be talking about some myths
- 0:59Speaker 3: and like all the tea around sororities and being like
- 1:02Speaker 3: actually real with all of you. And so some people
- 1:07Speaker 3: are saying anonymous just because they got a lot to say.
- 1:13Speaker 7: It's very interesting because even like thirty years later, I
- 1:16Speaker 7: still always want to protect my sorority. Yeah, you definitely
- 1:19Speaker 7: feel that. In my in my school, I'm always like
- 1:22Speaker 7: better not say no.
- 1:24Speaker 2: For sure.
- 1:24Speaker 3: It is I feel like it's such a special thing,
- 1:27Speaker 3: like sororities can they can get like bad people can
- 1:30Speaker 3: have bad ideas about them. But also like it was
- 1:32Speaker 3: such a great thing for me and such a good
- 1:33Speaker 3: time in my life, and like even the crazy stories,
- 1:36Speaker 3: like I love them.
- 1:37Speaker 2: It just like it makes college that much more memorable.
- 1:40Speaker 5: We had an interesting question when we were preparing.
- 1:42Speaker 7: Okay, so there's six of us here, would anyone say
- 1:46Speaker 7: they're sororities?
- 1:46Speaker 5: Password publicly? I wouldn't.
- 1:50Speaker 4: Wait what password?
- 1:51Speaker 2: I didn't have a password?
- 1:53Speaker 5: Mean, you don't have a password, the secret word? You
- 1:57Speaker 5: don't have a secret password?
- 1:59Speaker 4: No for what, like to get in.
- 2:01Speaker 5: The door, to get in this chapter room door.
- 2:05Speaker 2: Oh, and like.
- 2:08Speaker 8: We had Greek names, so like everyone was assigned a
- 2:11Speaker 8: Greek name and you had to say that when you
- 2:13Speaker 8: got into chapter and that's how you like got in
- 2:16Speaker 8: the door.
- 2:16Speaker 4: A handshake.
- 2:17Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, I'll my Greek name.
- 2:21Speaker 2: I just put my fingerprint and then I walked through
- 2:23Speaker 2: the door.
- 2:23Speaker 7: Your finger the chapter room door. You had to put
- 2:26Speaker 7: your fingerprint in the chapter room door.
- 2:28Speaker 2: Well, our chapter room was our fro.
- 2:30Speaker 7: It was like, so two of us, who will remain nameless,
- 2:34Speaker 7: are in the same sorority here, and we will say
- 2:37Speaker 7: the password to each other.
- 2:39Speaker 5: And give each other the handshake. But we wouldn't say
- 2:41Speaker 5: it to.
- 2:41Speaker 2: You guys, like you wouldn't tell me when we're off air.
- 2:44Speaker 7: No, that's kind, but I would say it to the
- 2:48Speaker 7: other person that was like, I get that.
- 2:51Speaker 4: If I had one, I would have to keep it sacred.
- 2:54Speaker 4: I get it.
- 2:55Speaker 5: I don't really doesn't have one.
- 2:57Speaker 4: I think because technology.
- 3:01Speaker 2: Some times have changed, clearly changed.
- 3:05Speaker 5: Okay, Daisy hit us with the more questions.
- 3:07Speaker 2: Okay, well here we go.
- 3:09Speaker 3: So I know we've talked a lot in like past
- 3:11Speaker 3: episodes about how it's expensive to be in a sorority.
- 3:14Speaker 3: Do you guys think sororities are paid friends?
- 3:18Speaker 7: Oh my gosh, wait, say that again so I can
- 3:20Speaker 7: really take that in. You're paying to have friends.
- 3:22Speaker 3: Do you think sorority in a sorority or paying to
- 3:25Speaker 3: have friends?
- 3:26Speaker 5: No?
- 3:26Speaker 8: No, what an interesting take. I wouldn't say so either.
- 3:30Speaker 8: You're paying for the full experience. You have formals, all
- 3:33Speaker 8: these events, and it's like, I don't know.
- 3:37Speaker 5: My sorority was paying to live there and have food.
- 3:39Speaker 8: Yeah, yeah, payduce to live in the house. I think
- 3:42Speaker 8: it goes so far beyond having friends. I don't think
- 3:45Speaker 8: that's the reason you're paying.
- 3:46Speaker 4: I wouldn't say it.
- 3:47Speaker 6: I think for me, like my freshman year at least,
- 3:49Speaker 6: I wanted to find a community, and so I felt
- 3:51Speaker 6: like sure, paying for my friends was like an.
- 3:53Speaker 2: Easy way to do that.
- 3:54Speaker 6: But also like living in the house too, like our
- 3:58Speaker 6: rent in the house is cheaper than any rent in
- 4:01Speaker 6: my college town. That is, I was like financially the
- 4:04Speaker 6: smarter decision.
- 4:05Speaker 8: To make I feel like so many people have that
- 4:08Speaker 8: have said that same thing.
- 4:09Speaker 2: It's cheaper to live in how.
- 4:11Speaker 3: Which was yours because you were at Ole miss which
- 4:14Speaker 3: is like, yeah, school.
- 4:15Speaker 1: I don't exactly remember, be honest, my parents paid for it,
- 4:19Speaker 1: but so like pre so are Like I said in
- 4:25Speaker 1: the other episode, our house flooded my freshman year.
- 4:29Speaker 4: So our old house, the dudes were very like really low.
- 4:33Speaker 4: I think they were like nineteen hundred.
- 4:35Speaker 1: But then and that was three meals a day, and
- 4:38Speaker 1: you used the house like at all hours, like you
- 4:41Speaker 1: could have it at all.
- 4:42Speaker 4: We weren't living.
- 4:42Speaker 2: There, but to be you could to be.
- 4:44Speaker 1: Fed three times a day, which was way cheaper than
- 4:47Speaker 1: the meal plans that you paid for sure anyway, but
- 4:49Speaker 1: then once we got the new house, I'm pretty sure
- 4:51Speaker 1: it was like in the three thousands per semester.
- 4:54Speaker 2: Like if you lived in or was that no, just
- 4:57Speaker 2: really cheap?
- 4:58Speaker 4: Yeah, just to like, yeah, okay, good, I'm glad.
- 5:00Speaker 2: I'm not.
- 5:01Speaker 5: I thought that was where we're gonna live for one
- 5:03Speaker 5: thousand dollars a month.
- 5:05Speaker 1: I think it was like four hundred dollars a month
- 5:07Speaker 1: to live at the house, no bills. It was just
- 5:10Speaker 1: like four hundred dollars spot.
- 5:11Speaker 2: And then there's three grand like on top of that.
- 5:13Speaker 3: Yeah okay, yeah, so it makes more sense to live
- 5:15Speaker 3: in Yeah, okay. This kind of leads into our next question.
- 5:18Speaker 3: So are you still friends with all your sisters everyone?
- 5:22Speaker 2: Yes?
- 5:23Speaker 7: Yes, And I'm fifty over fifty years old, and I
- 5:26Speaker 7: would say, right now, I could call twenty five people
- 5:30Speaker 7: in ten minutes.
- 5:32Speaker 2: That's amazing. I'm different. I'm not. You're not okay.
- 5:36Speaker 9: Yeah, I have like two maybe super close friends for
- 5:40Speaker 9: my sorority. Still, I mean I feel like I could,
- 5:43Speaker 9: if I was in a bine call any of them.
- 5:45Speaker 2: Not that's loose.
- 5:46Speaker 9: Not any of them, I would say, probably a handful.
- 5:50Speaker 2: Yeah I am not.
- 5:51Speaker 5: That's so interesting.
- 5:52Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 5:52Speaker 7: We did a calculation the other day if we threw
- 5:54Speaker 7: a party of just like six years of my sorority.
- 5:59Speaker 7: We got to one hundred and fifty people in like
- 6:01Speaker 7: like literally ten minutes.
- 6:04Speaker 2: Yeah, that's how I feel.
- 6:05Speaker 1: My I just got married a couple months ago, and
- 6:08Speaker 1: all my bridesmaids were my sorority sisters, including my own
- 6:11Speaker 1: blood sister who was then joined my sorority. And then
- 6:14Speaker 1: I had a house party because there were so many
- 6:16Speaker 1: of us, I couldn't have seventeen bridesmaids.
- 6:19Speaker 4: I was going to be the number and I just
- 6:20Speaker 4: felt like that was a little crazy.
- 6:22Speaker 1: So I did a house party and the other girls
- 6:24Speaker 1: besides Daisy and like three others were my sorority sisters.
- 6:29Speaker 5: Yeah what about you, Daisy Me.
- 6:31Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm like so.
- 6:32Speaker 3: At San diegoce I my roommate freshman year, Christy, I
- 6:37Speaker 3: was in Alpha FIE, she was in Pie PI, and
- 6:39Speaker 3: we both like found our groups like within, like she
- 6:42Speaker 3: had our group in Pi FI. I had my group
- 6:44Speaker 3: in Alpha PI, and then we kind of like morphed
- 6:46Speaker 3: everyone together. So like most of my friends, all my
- 6:49Speaker 3: friends like outside of college were in Alpha or Pi FI.
- 6:52Speaker 3: And then I have like a couple friends that I
- 6:54Speaker 3: did like stuff at school with, but like, for the
- 6:57Speaker 3: most part, I'm the closest with them.
- 6:59Speaker 2: I would say, we.
- 7:01Speaker 7: Got that at my school Kappa d G PI FI
- 7:03Speaker 7: and everyone's still friends.
- 7:05Speaker 2: Yeah, where did you go to school? By?
- 7:08Speaker 7: Okay, so much for being anonymous.
- 7:13Speaker 10: I would like.
- 7:14Speaker 4: Not to exploit you, but I have to know.
- 7:18Speaker 2: We should like have the logos of the schools like
- 7:21Speaker 2: pop up. Okay.
- 7:26Speaker 3: Do girls fight over boys when you're in a sorority?
- 7:29Speaker 10: Yes?
- 7:30Speaker 4: Yeah, No I never experienced that.
- 7:35Speaker 3: Yeah, but it's like like girls like, I mean, girls
- 7:41Speaker 3: can be shady and they're like they're like, oh, you're
- 7:44Speaker 3: like hanging out with that guy?
- 7:46Speaker 2: Will like I'm like hooking up with him.
- 7:49Speaker 4: I never had that.
- 7:51Speaker 7: We call it like claims, Like people would make claims
- 7:53Speaker 7: on a boy. Yeah, and then if another sorority sister,
- 7:57Speaker 7: like even months after those two end, did if another
- 8:01Speaker 7: sorty sister started to date or like that boy, Yeah,
- 8:06Speaker 7: a little dramatic.
- 8:07Speaker 5: Yeah, I don't.
- 8:08Speaker 6: I don't know if I find it that dramatic, Like
- 8:10Speaker 6: I would never you know, start things with like a
- 8:14Speaker 6: guy that my soorty sister had been with.
- 8:16Speaker 5: Oh, I was so many boys. I wasna I went.
- 8:21Speaker 8: To a school that was sixty percent girls and forty
- 8:24Speaker 8: percent boys, so it was slim Pickett.
- 8:27Speaker 2: You gotta fight. Everybody was fighting for themselves.
- 8:31Speaker 8: But I mean seriously, like I feel like every week
- 8:35Speaker 8: there was a new just draw draw between girls because
- 8:39Speaker 8: it was like, don't kiss someone that your sorority sister.
- 8:42Speaker 8: I'd guess, but that's impossible.
- 8:46Speaker 10: Whatever.
- 9:00Speaker 3: I remember being like, if like older girls in my sorority,
- 9:04Speaker 3: if like someone in my pledge class like started like
- 9:08Speaker 3: talking to their and like you comment, as a freshman,
- 9:10Speaker 3: you don't know anything, but like say, like a girl
- 9:14Speaker 3: starts talking to an upper classman's like ex boyfriend or
- 9:17Speaker 3: something like that and start hooking up with them, like
- 9:20Speaker 3: it's like crazy, and it's like you should not do that,
- 9:24Speaker 3: like you like, and it's almost like then like that
- 9:26Speaker 3: friend group like will like not like attack you, but
- 9:30Speaker 3: like you know what I mean, they're they're like sowing.
- 9:33Speaker 7: Back now because like I said, it's been thirty years,
- 9:36Speaker 7: but I remember I kissed a boy that my big
- 9:38Speaker 7: sister in the sorority dated.
- 9:40Speaker 5: Yeah, and I don't think she was too happy about it.
- 9:42Speaker 5: And now I'm totally still totally friends with her.
- 9:45Speaker 7: I don't even think if like we called her right now,
- 9:47Speaker 7: she'd even be able to name who the boy was Yeah.
- 9:50Speaker 5: I mean I remember because it was a little bit
- 9:51Speaker 5: more dramatic for me.
- 9:55Speaker 4: We have a friend and she the upper classman thing.
- 9:59Speaker 2: She yes. I was like, who are we talking about?
- 10:02Speaker 1: She was like terrified to talk to this guy because
- 10:06Speaker 1: an upper classman. I guess they claimed him. Yeah, it's
- 10:10Speaker 1: literally how she described it. They were like, you're not
- 10:12Speaker 1: going to talk to him. He's he's ours and he's
- 10:14Speaker 1: older than you, and you need to stick stay in
- 10:16Speaker 1: your lane.
- 10:17Speaker 4: Yeah, and now they're dating.
- 10:19Speaker 3: But now in college it was like no, And then like,
- 10:24Speaker 3: way is.
- 10:26Speaker 7: The only thing that I think get a little sticky
- 10:28Speaker 7: in the sorority can.
- 10:29Speaker 5: Get a little sticky.
- 10:31Speaker 2: Extended past college.
- 10:33Speaker 9: There was a situation in my sorority that our president
- 10:40Speaker 9: at the time came to college with her high school boyfriend.
- 10:42Speaker 2: He also joined a fraternity.
- 10:45Speaker 9: She went on a semester travel abroad, and while she
- 10:50Speaker 9: was gone, he hooked up with somebody from our sorority,
- 10:53Speaker 9: but she didn't know, and they got married very young,
- 10:57Speaker 9: and she was convinced that she that they lost the
- 11:01Speaker 9: virginity together and like in their marriage she found out that.
- 11:07Speaker 2: This is giving like tell me lies, you guys seen that.
- 11:10Speaker 9: Yeah, in their marriage that he had cheated lost his virginity,
- 11:14Speaker 9: is just somebody else in the same crority.
- 11:16Speaker 6: I think the most important part of that, like the cheating.
- 11:20Speaker 6: I mean, that's really.
- 11:20Speaker 9: Nice stuff, but like that's and that's so that's extended
- 11:23Speaker 9: past college, so it gets it gets sticky.
- 11:26Speaker 2: Wow.
- 11:27Speaker 3: Wow, Okay, let's move on to the next fun Are
- 11:31Speaker 3: mixers and like pre parties as wild as movies and
- 11:35Speaker 3: TV make them seem?
- 11:41Speaker 2: Not not like in.
- 11:43Speaker 1: The movies where like people are jumping off the roof
- 11:46Speaker 1: and stuff like.
- 11:47Speaker 2: I mean, no people at mine like jumped off the roof.
- 11:51Speaker 1: Honestly would Maybe I feel like the acting is kind
- 11:56Speaker 1: of fake where it just seems so out of touch.
- 11:59Speaker 3: It's all so like I don't know about you guys,
- 12:01Speaker 3: but like when we would go to like fraternity parties
- 12:03Speaker 3: and say, it'd be like, okay, Alpha Fi, we have
- 12:06Speaker 3: a pre party with sigap. Then we would go like
- 12:10Speaker 3: with to Cingette, but no one ever had solo cups.
- 12:13Speaker 3: Like everyone would drink out of plastic vodka handles and
- 12:16Speaker 3: then have a like Steven Up like chaser from like
- 12:21Speaker 3: Trader Joe's, and it would be vodka.
- 12:22Speaker 2: The gods and everyone would just be slugging it.
- 12:24Speaker 1: Out of the same bottle past Sumer haircuts.
- 12:30Speaker 4: They would pour both so you'd like and dump it
- 12:34Speaker 4: into your mouth at the same time.
- 12:36Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 12:36Speaker 7: I will say I went back to s AE as
- 12:39Speaker 7: an old person, you know, like during a fraternity party
- 12:43Speaker 7: on a football game day, and I was actually like disturbed.
- 12:48Speaker 7: I was like it was so wild and they were
- 12:52Speaker 7: doing all that sharing and all.
- 12:54Speaker 5: I could think about was the germ like mono.
- 12:56Speaker 7: Yeah, like yeah catching and it was so hot and
- 13:00Speaker 7: there's so many people that I was actually like a person,
- 13:03Speaker 7: was like I actually cannot do this. Yeah yeah, But
- 13:05Speaker 7: I think as a twenty year old I would have
- 13:07Speaker 7: been like, this is amazing.
- 13:09Speaker 3: It's also like you're away from like you don't have
- 13:13Speaker 3: any rules. You feel kind of invincible and you can
- 13:16Speaker 3: go out and party whenever you want and you walk
- 13:18Speaker 3: in and it's like, I don't know about you, guys,
- 13:20Speaker 3: but it was dark. There were lights, there were like
- 13:23Speaker 3: people were DJing, Like, honestly, how many frack guys are DJs?
- 13:27Speaker 2: Because chair expired so bad?
- 13:33Speaker 5: Oh my god, these are great questions. Keep going, this
- 13:35Speaker 5: is good, they get.
- 13:37Speaker 2: Good, Okay, oh, this is okay.
- 13:40Speaker 3: Do sorority girls actually have to earn invites to the
- 13:43Speaker 3: best parties.
- 13:44Speaker 6: No, well, I'm the social chair of my sorority.
- 13:48Speaker 2: Oh so you go in everywhere.
- 13:49Speaker 6: I'm I'm making sure that we get the good parties.
- 13:52Speaker 6: And it's also kind of like as dramatic as it seems, like,
- 13:57Speaker 6: I want the entirety of my sorty to attend these
- 13:59Speaker 6: events that we can continue having like a good relationship.
- 14:01Speaker 5: What about a day party? What about a day party?
- 14:04Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, that's kind of like the like frat guys
- 14:08Speaker 6: themselves will seek out one person. So it's kind of like, yeah,
- 14:11Speaker 6: if us as a sorority, we're going to maintain these
- 14:13Speaker 6: great friendships or more with these guys, then that's how
- 14:16Speaker 6: you can kind of like get yourself into like a
- 14:18Speaker 6: date party.
- 14:19Speaker 7: I'm trying to remember, like South Seas do they start?
- 14:21Speaker 7: So how does that work? Is that essial just a darty?
- 14:23Speaker 6: So we just i mean like social.
- 14:26Speaker 1: Party, but like anyone can show up, Like if that's
- 14:31Speaker 1: what the question.
- 14:31Speaker 5: Is is get into South Seas.
- 14:33Speaker 2: No, it's not for us.
- 14:35Speaker 3: It's like yeah, for me, it was like my sorority,
- 14:37Speaker 3: so like Alpha Fie, like we could get into like
- 14:42Speaker 3: like the three like frats that like we mainly like
- 14:45Speaker 3: hung out with, we could go in there. But if
- 14:47Speaker 3: like another girl like walked up and they were like
- 14:50Speaker 3: not in a sorority, or if they were in like
- 14:52Speaker 3: a different sorority and didn't have like a relationship with
- 14:54Speaker 3: that frat, they'd be like, show me your group me.
- 14:59Speaker 7: That's how you to prove And the scroll you just
- 15:03Speaker 7: said show me or show me or get me.
- 15:06Speaker 2: So it's like, do you know what group me? So
- 15:08Speaker 2: it's like an app where like you can add everyone.
- 15:11Speaker 3: So like if we were all on the same sorority,
- 15:13Speaker 3: I would add all of you guys, and then we
- 15:14Speaker 3: would do like alpha pi like times like s AE,
- 15:19Speaker 3: and then we'd all be in the same one. So
- 15:20Speaker 3: then if I showed up and I was like, okay,
- 15:22Speaker 3: I'm Daisy, I'm an Alpha fi, they would scroll on
- 15:25Speaker 3: it to make sure that it's like real and not
- 15:27Speaker 3: a screenshot and make sure that it's you. And then
- 15:29Speaker 3: like if Gracie showed up with me and she wasn't
- 15:32Speaker 3: an alpha fie, like say she was like not in
- 15:34Speaker 3: a sorority, they'd be like, no, like, she can't come.
- 15:37Speaker 2: If I was visiting you, if you were visiting me.
- 15:40Speaker 3: Then it's like different than I like put in that
- 15:42Speaker 3: I have a friend visiting me or honestly, I mean
- 15:45Speaker 3: it's not horrible, but like it was and the guys
- 15:48Speaker 3: are like, oh, like you're hot, like they'll let you in.
- 15:51Speaker 7: So how did I get into South Seas Because it
- 15:53Speaker 7: wasn't there a guest list?
- 15:54Speaker 5: I feel like my name was on a list or something.
- 15:57Speaker 6: What we do is we have like physical wristbands in
- 16:00Speaker 6: apps sometimes, but that's just maybe because like now there's
- 16:03Speaker 6: a lot more people that will try and go to
- 16:04Speaker 6: the fraternitys and it's not like a if you're hot
- 16:07Speaker 6: or not thing. It's like a safety thing of like
- 16:09Speaker 6: there could be people around Berkeley that are just like
- 16:11Speaker 6: lurking trying to get into presses that like don't go there,
- 16:14Speaker 6: and that's like a safety concern. So now we have
- 16:16Speaker 6: like wristbands and like we have an app to where
- 16:19Speaker 6: we can like add people if they're visiting ours.
- 16:22Speaker 1: Was literally you walk up, you show your Sunniti and
- 16:25Speaker 1: you walk in.
- 16:25Speaker 4: Oh wow, like there and your Suniti didn't say your
- 16:28Speaker 4: sorority on it. They did not. There was no none
- 16:31Speaker 4: of that.
- 16:32Speaker 1: But that's for that's for like Okay, Sigma Nu had
- 16:36Speaker 1: what was there? They had like this one yearly big party,
- 16:40Speaker 1: like there was no no rules for like anyone could come.
- 16:44Speaker 1: It was the fratorney. Even guys from other fraterneys would
- 16:46Speaker 1: sometimes come. They had like a friend that was in
- 16:48Speaker 1: Sigma Nu. They'd be like all right, I'm gonna go. Yeah,
- 16:52Speaker 1: But like date parties where it's just Katie and just
- 16:54Speaker 1: SIGNU or just Katie just Sigma.
- 16:56Speaker 4: Kai, you have to prove it.
- 16:58Speaker 2: But like that's it would be like it's.
- 17:02Speaker 8: Just regular parties. Anyone could walk in. Yeah, they didn't
- 17:05Speaker 8: check a student ID, they didn't check a group me nothing,
- 17:07Speaker 8: Like if you were a girl, you could just walk in.
- 17:10Speaker 8: But then, like you were saying, with formals or date parties,
- 17:13Speaker 8: then there's a list or there's a wristband that you
- 17:15Speaker 8: need to have. But any old fraternity party, especially a
- 17:18Speaker 8: tailgate or something, anyone can get in.
- 17:20Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 17:21Speaker 2: No, San Diego.
- 17:23Speaker 4: I don't know what it's like now the big city thing.
- 17:27Speaker 1: Like I mean I was in Oxford, Mississippi, Like there's
- 17:29Speaker 1: nothing there besides the college, so I could kind of
- 17:31Speaker 1: see that not being a safety concern. But if you're
- 17:34Speaker 1: in like a bigger city, you need to like control.
- 17:37Speaker 3: Is kind of like it's like not close, like if
- 17:40Speaker 3: you think of like downtown San Diego and stuff like that.
- 17:42Speaker 2: It's like it's like in its own little kind.
- 17:45Speaker 3: Of world, you know what I mean. And the only
- 17:47Speaker 3: one that like the only people that try to get
- 17:49Speaker 3: to the parties are like college students.
- 17:50Speaker 5: Like any old people listening that still don't know what
- 17:52Speaker 5: a group me is, I'm totally with you. They still
- 17:56Speaker 5: it's just like, yeah, it's like group chats.
- 18:01Speaker 4: Yeah, it's a bunch of trip chots.
- 18:03Speaker 3: Like an easy way to start, like a text start
- 18:05Speaker 3: without giving your number kind of.
- 18:08Speaker 2: Yeah, you can only.
- 18:09Speaker 5: Say it's fine, person. I don't think anyone over forty
- 18:12Speaker 5: is understanding that. But that's fine.
- 18:14Speaker 2: I'm over thirty and I'm getting it.
- 18:15Speaker 3: So next question, are there ceremonies for things like engagements,
- 18:33Speaker 3: et cetera. Is the candle pass tradition real or just
- 18:37Speaker 3: a room it is?
- 18:38Speaker 2: It's real.
- 18:40Speaker 8: Every single week my chapter would go like thirty or
- 18:44Speaker 8: forty minutes longer than it should have because we had
- 18:47Speaker 8: a candle pass, because there were a lot of ring
- 18:49Speaker 8: before spring girls in the stort wait when the candle spring,
- 18:53Speaker 8: Like you get engaged before you.
- 18:57Speaker 2: Oh no, wait, that's actually this.
- 18:59Speaker 5: Is like the actually engaged.
- 19:01Speaker 4: So they get engaged the secret, Yeah, it's they get engaged,
- 19:07Speaker 4: but they keep it a secret.
- 19:09Speaker 1: And then they have a candle and they put the
- 19:10Speaker 1: ring on the candle and they pass it around and
- 19:15Speaker 1: then you sing a song and then at the very end,
- 19:18Speaker 1: the candle ends up with the bride and it's.
- 19:21Speaker 5: Like, oh my god. They tell their entire love.
- 19:25Speaker 8: Story for like way too long.
- 19:29Speaker 10: Year.
- 19:29Speaker 4: So that is crazy.
- 19:32Speaker 5: One pinning in four years.
- 19:35Speaker 6: I don't do that.
- 19:37Speaker 7: What is a pinning like you're or this pinning is
- 19:41Speaker 7: like you're it's a step before getting engaged. So it's
- 19:45Speaker 7: the same candle and the candle's going around and you
- 19:49Speaker 7: don't know who it is, and then it stops.
- 19:50Speaker 5: I don't remember how.
- 19:51Speaker 7: There was some sort of singing and then that person
- 19:54Speaker 7: who's maybe the friend, blows out the candle so the
- 19:57Speaker 7: person knows they're getting pinned. And then all the boys
- 20:00Speaker 7: come in in suits and then but it's just a pinning.
- 20:04Speaker 7: I think they give them. It's very old timy. They
- 20:07Speaker 7: give their fraternity pin to the girl. And then it's
- 20:11Speaker 7: like engaged to be engaged.
- 20:13Speaker 1: So they're hinting like you're gonna engage.
- 20:16Speaker 5: It's like it's like a spring.
- 20:18Speaker 3: Honestly, thinking of like frat boys, Like all of my
- 20:22Speaker 3: like frat guy friends who I'm still friends with, love
- 20:24Speaker 3: them all to death, but like they were total frat
- 20:28Speaker 3: boys in college.
- 20:29Speaker 2: Like I like, you cannot marry any of them. Maybe
- 20:33Speaker 2: it's like maybe they.
- 20:34Speaker 3: Would never do that, like they would well, they just
- 20:37Speaker 3: like there's no way they possibly could.
- 20:39Speaker 2: They're they're they were just like animals. I'm sorry, it's true.
- 20:46Speaker 2: There's a school in Minnesota.
- 20:48Speaker 3: It's a private school and if you get engaged before
- 20:51Speaker 3: you graduate, you get school free.
- 20:54Speaker 2: Noel, Yeah, it's called I'm pretty sure.
- 21:01Speaker 7: I'm like, actually, Google, give us another question, will you?
- 21:05Speaker 2: Yeah, Oh, let's due.
- 21:08Speaker 3: Do you think Bama rushed TikTok mates already see more
- 21:11Speaker 3: extreme than they really are?
- 21:13Speaker 4: Yeah, not for ole miss.
- 21:16Speaker 3: Not for all miss. Well that makes sense because they're
- 21:18Speaker 3: both in the South. Yeah, I seem like the TikTok.
- 21:21Speaker 3: I think like social media has opened up like a
- 21:23Speaker 3: whole other aspect to it where other people can like
- 21:25Speaker 3: watch it too. But even my friends I remember in
- 21:28Speaker 3: our group chat, we like sent like our sorority Alpha
- 21:32Speaker 3: Fie at sandy or say like they do all those
- 21:34Speaker 3: dances before and they like scent it. And I was like,
- 21:37Speaker 3: all my friends were dancers, and I was like, you guys,
- 21:39Speaker 3: i'd be that girl with just her arm showing in
- 21:41Speaker 3: the back holding the sign. Then like my friends were like, oh,
- 21:45Speaker 3: we'd be in the front dancing, like eating.
- 21:47Speaker 2: That shit up, you know what I mean. So, I
- 21:49Speaker 2: don't know, it's definitely changed.
- 21:51Speaker 7: Yeah, And we need to get like a grandma in
- 21:54Speaker 7: here du from you know, when they were in school
- 21:57Speaker 7: in the sixties or seventies, because it'll be interesting too.
- 22:01Speaker 8: Imagine showing them one of those tiktoks.
- 22:03Speaker 4: They'd be like, what the hell's this.
- 22:07Speaker 5: Petition that?
- 22:08Speaker 6: Yeah, my grand was in his story in the sixties
- 22:10Speaker 6: and she had said to me recently being like, so
- 22:12Speaker 6: what is work week? And why do I keep seeing
- 22:14Speaker 6: you on the Instagram?
- 22:15Speaker 2: What's happening?
- 22:16Speaker 6: And I'm like, I don't even know.
- 22:17Speaker 5: Yeah, we need to do a grammar episode. We'll do that.
- 22:20Speaker 2: Yes, I need to gramas. If you want to be
- 22:22Speaker 2: on the podcall in.
- 22:23Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 22:25Speaker 3: Next question, do sororities secretly keep hotless during rush? Like
- 22:29Speaker 3: meaning like do they keep tabs of like girls that
- 22:32Speaker 3: they like.
- 22:32Speaker 2: Want in the sorority of course.
- 22:34Speaker 8: Yes, yeah, I feel like that's no secret.
- 22:36Speaker 1: Yeah, I think social media plays a part in it,
- 22:38Speaker 1: Like we were saying for sure, where they see online
- 22:41Speaker 1: a girl that has like the in her bio that
- 22:44Speaker 1: she's going to go to the school, and I feel
- 22:47Speaker 1: like they kind of like keep tabs.
- 22:49Speaker 3: Yeah, like someone joins the Facebook pages and is like scouting.
- 22:52Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 22:53Speaker 3: Do alumni ever pull strings to control who gets a bid?
- 23:00Speaker 1: Yeah, definitely, I know other sororities. It was like it
- 23:04Speaker 1: was kind of crazy.
- 23:05Speaker 4: I don't know if it was like this for y'all.
- 23:06Speaker 4: Was Rush Week like super drama for y'all.
- 23:09Speaker 6: Yeah, just so tiring.
- 23:11Speaker 1: So for us, like every day there was like a
- 23:14Speaker 1: rumor there was something about this house was doing this,
- 23:16Speaker 1: this house was doing that, And I remember alumni being
- 23:20Speaker 1: a huge part of one of the rumors. Actually every
- 23:23Speaker 1: year that this house's alumni was keeping this girl whose grades.
- 23:28Speaker 4: Were below the requirements and.
- 23:30Speaker 1: They or they have these like crazy past things that
- 23:32Speaker 1: they've done that they like shouldn't be put it.
- 23:34Speaker 2: Yeah, it was crazy, guys.
- 23:37Speaker 3: We have so many more juicy questions that people ask
- 23:40Speaker 3: and so come back for the next episode because we
- 23:43Speaker 3: are going to do a part two. We didn't even
- 23:46Speaker 3: get halfway through the question, so come back for that
- 23:49Speaker 3: and thanks for being here.
- 23:50Speaker 2: Love you guys.
