- 0:56SPEAKER_00: Welcome to week five Games of the Week.
- 0:58SPEAKER_00: Our football analyst is Roger Neal, the sports voice of the Southern Tier.
- 1:04SPEAKER_00: Welcome, Roger.
- 1:05SPEAKER_01: Tim, thank you very much.
- 1:06SPEAKER_01: Doing well.
- 1:07SPEAKER_01: What a week four it was.
- 1:09SPEAKER_01: And if week five is anything like it, it's going to be some kind of exciting couple of days of football in our area in section four.
- 1:16SPEAKER_01: Let's reflect back a little bit to UB Tiger home action last weekend.
- 1:21SPEAKER_01: The Tigers played main and well.
- 1:23SPEAKER_01: Emmy was on a roll.
- 1:24SPEAKER_01: The Tigers with a rejuvenated offense.
- 1:27SPEAKER_01: And what a game it was.
- 1:28SPEAKER_01: It came down to just one score and a two-point conversion.
- 1:31SPEAKER_01: Nicholas Lang carried in a third quarter touchdown to break a scoreless deadlock.
- 1:37SPEAKER_01: And Emmy was unable to score the rest of the way.
- 1:40SPEAKER_01: The Tigers won it 8-0 over rival Main and well.
- 1:43SPEAKER_01: Now they're not in the same classification, but they're separated by inches in school district.
- 1:49SPEAKER_01: So you know it's a big rivalry and always has been.
- 1:54SPEAKER_01: He is out with an injury.
- 1:56SPEAKER_01: So that was a big key for them.
- 1:57SPEAKER_01: A good two-way player.
- 1:59SPEAKER_01: They also lost quarterback Mike Mancini early in the second half, reportedly some cramping problems.
- 2:04SPEAKER_01: So he was out.
- 2:06SPEAKER_01: And with that, they just did not do much against the stellar UE defense.
- 2:10SPEAKER_01: Our tip of the hat to Tom Bellino and his defensive coaches because they were superb.
- 2:15SPEAKER_01: The game plan was perfect, and they held high-powered main end well off the board to win at 8-0.
- 2:21SPEAKER_01: Also, the Forks coming up with a big win.
- 2:23SPEAKER_01: Clovering only on a 39-2 horseheads at a Barnburner, winning in the closing second final of 19-17 over Corning, each team now with a 3-1 record.
- 2:34SPEAKER_01: And Susquehanna Valley picked up a win over another big rival, 2014 winners over Shenango Valley.
- 2:41SPEAKER_01: Now, highlighting this weekend for me, the top game in section four will take place in Class D.
- 2:47SPEAKER_01: Newark Valley will face Tyoga.
- 2:49SPEAKER_01: What a year both teams are having.
- 2:51SPEAKER_01: Tyoga is 4-0.
- 2:52SPEAKER_01: Newark Valley is 3-1.
- 2:54SPEAKER_01: And a D competition, they are among the best.
- 2:57SPEAKER_01: Newark Valley, 194 points scored.
- 3:00SPEAKER_01: That's the most in section four in 11-man competition, averaging over 48 points a game.
- 3:06SPEAKER_01: They've given up 74, so 18 plus per game against them.
- 3:10SPEAKER_01: Meanwhile, Tyoga also won a big roll.
- 3:13SPEAKER_01: 179 points four, averaging almost 45 points a game.
- 3:17SPEAKER_01: They've given up just 28 points on the season or an average of seven points per game.
- 3:23SPEAKER_01: So that should be one great contest.
- 3:25SPEAKER_01: Meanwhile, Vestel plays at Binghamton.
- 3:28SPEAKER_01: Both are struggling for victories.
- 3:29SPEAKER_01: That'll be a good one, always is, no matter what the records are.
- 3:33SPEAKER_01: Also, a weigo plays at Maine and well.
- 3:35SPEAKER_01: Oigo comes in one and three.
- 3:37SPEAKER_01: The Spartans sparting from that loss over the weekend at UE.
- 3:41SPEAKER_01: They are three and one in Class B Division III.
- 3:44SPEAKER_01: So a big one there in the division.
- 3:46SPEAKER_01: Ouigo's one and oh.
- 3:47SPEAKER_01: ME has not played a game in that division, and they will this weekend.
- 3:51SPEAKER_01: Meanwhile, Johnson City plays at Horseheads.
- 3:54SPEAKER_01: The Wildcats are one and three, horseheads three and one.
- 3:57SPEAKER_01: And unbeaten UE, the high-powered offense, continues to roll.
- 4:01SPEAKER_01: They'll try to get even more offense coming their home this weekend against Ithaca.
- 4:05SPEAKER_01: So, Tim, a big weekend in store for high school football fans, all around Section 4 competition.
- 4:11SPEAKER_00: Absolutely, Roger, and you nailed it.
- 4:13SPEAKER_00: And one thing I'd like to uh let our listeners know is this week is Coach's Appreciation Week.
- 4:20SPEAKER_00: And that's not only for athletic coaches, but you think about the first coaches you ever had.
- 4:25SPEAKER_00: Typically, that's your parents and your teachers.
- 4:27SPEAKER_00: So, congratulations and uh uh appreciate everything the coaches do, and you had your uh week.
- 4:34SPEAKER_00: Now into the New York State Sports Writers Association rankings.
- 4:38SPEAKER_00: This is of as of Sunday, October 3rd.
- 4:41SPEAKER_00: The A classification, Elmira now jumps into the top 25, coming in at 21 with a three-and-one record.
- 4:49SPEAKER_00: And honorable mention is Corning with the same three-and-one record.
- 4:53SPEAKER_00: Class A, we've got two teams almost neck and neck, and that's number 20, Unionicot, 4-0.
- 5:02SPEAKER_00: And they're coming off uh the big victory that Roger alluded to against Maine Enwell and Horseheads as well, coming off a big victory there against Corning.
- 5:11SPEAKER_00: They're three and one.
- 5:14SPEAKER_00: The class B is Maine Enwell.
- 5:17SPEAKER_00: They're no longer at the top of the heap.
- 5:20SPEAKER_00: They're they've dropped to number nine after their loss to Union Endicott, and their record, as Roger alluded to, is three and one.
- 5:26SPEAKER_00: Windsor drops into the honorable mention category with the same record of three and one.
- 5:31SPEAKER_00: And that's probably because of the hands of Johnson City that beat beat them uh last weekend.
- 5:38SPEAKER_00: In the class C, we've this class C is really uh pretty well loaded from a Section 4 standpoint.
- 5:44SPEAKER_00: We and I keep alluding each week, we should be represented very well.
- 5:48SPEAKER_00: Coming in at five is Shenango Forks with a three and one record.
- 5:52SPEAKER_00: And then back to back is Norwich coming in at nine at a four-and-one record, followed by Waverly with a five and zero record.
- 6:01SPEAKER_00: And an honorable mention, we have Watkins Glenodesimontur.
- 6:04SPEAKER_00: So the representative that comes out of that portion uh of our section should be represented very well.
- 6:11SPEAKER_00: Class D, it's it's a good time to be a Tioga Tiger.
- 6:15SPEAKER_00: They're riding a four and zero win streak right now.
- 6:18SPEAKER_00: Last week, Coach Ayalo had his 100th victory.
- 6:22SPEAKER_00: Congratulations to you, coach, and all your support staff there in the football community.
- 6:27SPEAKER_00: Doing a great job down there.
- 6:29SPEAKER_00: Also in class D, number 11, Harpersville, Afton.
- 6:33SPEAKER_00: They're four and zero.
- 6:34SPEAKER_00: And Newark Valley at 15 is three and one.
- 6:37SPEAKER_00: An honorable mention, Delhi comes in at three and one.
- 6:40SPEAKER_00: And our final classification is the eight-player classification.
- 6:44SPEAKER_00: And we're sitting very well in that classification as well.
- 6:47SPEAKER_00: We've got Spencer Benetton at number two.
- 6:49SPEAKER_00: They are three and zero coming off a very lopsided 64-0 win against Thomas Edison.
- 6:56SPEAKER_00: Number six is Green at three and zero.
- 6:59SPEAKER_00: Groton at two and zero.
- 7:01SPEAKER_00: They've had some unfortunate situations and only able to play two games.
- 7:05SPEAKER_00: But those two games they play, they've done very well and hold opponents to a total of eight points.
- 7:10SPEAKER_00: And Trumansburg, number 10 at 4 and 0.
- 7:13SPEAKER_00: And at any honorable mention, there are two teams, Lansing, one and one, and Newfield 1 and 1.
- 7:19SPEAKER_00: So, Roger, thanks again.
