- 1:05[SPEAKER_02]: Getting ready to do well.
- 1:06[SPEAKER_01]: So nice to hope, my man off.
- 1:09[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, getting ready for a joint practice tomorrow.
- 1:11[SPEAKER_02]: And as we know, joint practice are more important than regular season games, than playoff games, than Super Bulls, in fact.
- 1:17[SPEAKER_02]: So tomorrow is the most important practice in the history of professional football.
- 1:24[SPEAKER_01]: You bring in that Lamberti trophy out there to practice tomorrow off.
- 1:27[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, a champion will be crowned tomorrow at about 11 30 a.m.
- 1:33[SPEAKER_01]: Awesome.
- 1:34[SPEAKER_01]: Appreciate you guys having me on, fun to come back to the old stomping grounds.
- 1:39[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, for sure.
- 1:40[SPEAKER_00]: Now let's get right into it.
- 1:41[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 1:42[SPEAKER_00]: This episode pure film session.
- 1:45[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 1:45[SPEAKER_00]: We'll talk about five clips in a little bit more stuff that we saw during the game.
- 1:50[SPEAKER_00]: Post game Jeff Hathley said that he loved the way the team came out in the beginning the offense, the defense.
- 1:58[SPEAKER_00]: They were in a tough situation for offense because they were backed up.
- 2:02[SPEAKER_00]: And he credited Bobby slow it coming out with a good game plan.
- 2:06[SPEAKER_00]: They were able to execute at a high level.
- 2:08[SPEAKER_00]: The run game was working.
- 2:10[SPEAKER_00]: The protection in the past and game, the bootlegs, the play actions, everything was there.
- 2:16[SPEAKER_00]: Coach, before we get into these clips, the first series by Moliq Willis.
- 2:21[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, four for five, four to three yards.
- 2:23[SPEAKER_00]: It was a 93 yard, 14 play touchdown drive.
- 2:29[SPEAKER_00]: The starters played.
- 2:30[SPEAKER_00]: but they played up against Washington's second team defense.
- 2:36[SPEAKER_00]: Is that one drive a representative of the offensive line in the scheme and evaluation?
- 2:44[SPEAKER_00]: Like, was it meaningful or do you think we've read too much into the small sample?
- 2:52[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it was meaningful in the sense that, you know,
- 2:55[SPEAKER_01]: they are who we thought they were, right?
- 2:57[SPEAKER_01]: Like this is what you needed to come out and do.
- 2:59[SPEAKER_01]: You were playing against mostly commanders, backups there.
- 3:03[SPEAKER_01]: You know, obviously it's not going to look that good throughout the entire season.
- 3:07[SPEAKER_01]: There's going to be more challenging defenses.
- 3:09[SPEAKER_01]: They're going to play against.
- 3:10[SPEAKER_01]: But we talk about what we expect this team to be and, you know, the way that they need to play in order to have some success this season.
- 3:19[SPEAKER_01]: You needed them to be able to
- 3:21[SPEAKER_01]: run the ball well.
- 3:22[SPEAKER_01]: You need them to be efficient.
- 3:24[SPEAKER_01]: Staying ahead of the change, need them to be able to convert those third and short situations.
- 3:29[SPEAKER_01]: So I don't think that I wouldn't go overboard with what happened with that first drive in the first game of the first preseason game.
- 3:39[SPEAKER_01]: But at the same time, we should be pleased the team did come out and that's what they did.
- 3:43[SPEAKER_01]: If they had come out and they
- 3:50[SPEAKER_01]: then we might have some cause for concern.
- 3:53[SPEAKER_01]: And it's not like they went out there and just, busted off 15 yard run after 15 yard run.
- 3:59[SPEAKER_01]: It was a nice methodical drive against a defense that they were more talented than.
- 4:04[SPEAKER_01]: Hopefully we see more of the giant starters this week on defense, and we can see if they can continue that success.
- 4:12[SPEAKER_00]: Alf.
- 4:13[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to get into your favorite section, and it's going to be PFF grades.
- 4:18[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 4:20[SPEAKER_00]: Malik will is graded out in at a 90.4, third best quarterback grade in the league for week one of preseason, just, you know, one drive in there.
- 4:31[SPEAKER_00]: Cam Miller was the worst of all quarterbacks, and Quinn Ewers was 37th of all quarterbacks.
- 4:40[SPEAKER_00]: The Y receiver group for the Miami Dolphins overall as a unit, they were the worst in NFL.
- 4:46[SPEAKER_00]: Four drops, and one of them was actually offset, well, it was five total drops, but one was offset by holding penalty.
- 4:55[SPEAKER_00]: Caleb Douglass had the highest Y receiver group of the highest Y receiver grade of
- 5:04[SPEAKER_00]: the group especially with this one handed 28 art grab on that DPI which I think everyone saw was pretty freaking phenomenal.
- 5:13[SPEAKER_02]: Yep, and I wonder how they grated him stepping on a bounce and being completely unaware of where he was on the field.
- 5:21[SPEAKER_02]: And I wonder how they grated, you know, it wasn't really CBS because it also happened with the commander's broadcast.
- 5:30[SPEAKER_02]: I wonder how they grated them not showing a replay if he stepped that a bounce or not.
- 5:35[SPEAKER_02]: because the league actually stopped the play, and then they just said, yeah, I have just played in the next play, and yeah, the officials, I thought had a rough day to say the least, and that was one of them.
- 5:47[SPEAKER_02]: I would have loved to see if he was actually in bounce, and don't ask me about my impressions of that on the alt 22, because we couldn't get the alt 22 either.
- 5:57[SPEAKER_02]: All we got was, now we can, now we can, now we can, we're there about to play
- 6:06[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, yeah, very, very good outing to start the, the preseason and then as the game more on, you sort of kind of saw how the dolphins, the backups were dolphins back or backups.
- 6:20[SPEAKER_00]: We know Quiny words did not have a good camp, he did not look good and I think the film pretty much said it.
- 6:27[SPEAKER_00]: Cam Miller was okay, so so, but
- 6:33[SPEAKER_00]: They what I think they did they leave that they let Camilla go and sign Mark or Nalski No, Miller star also still on the rest well.
- 6:43[SPEAKER_00]: It was give me two now.
- 6:46[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yeah You think he's going to be QB two now over a 20 worse
- 6:51[SPEAKER_01]: Well, a quiz not planned this week, so.
- 6:53[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, one is out this week and it could be out a little longer.
- 6:56[SPEAKER_00]: Well, in terms of depth chart, if Quinn was not injured, right, because he has, you know, that little growing issue happening right now, if Quinn was not injured, would Camilla be your quarterback too?
- 7:09[SPEAKER_02]: He's been better all camp.
- 7:12[SPEAKER_02]: He's had two practices of which all are better than, those two practices were better than all of Quinnewer's practices.
- 7:20[SPEAKER_02]: This entire camp.
- 7:21[SPEAKER_02]: So it was a stadium practice and this last one that Cam Miller was actually pretty decent in it.
- 7:26[SPEAKER_02]: So yeah, Quinnewer's has been awful all camp.
- 7:32[SPEAKER_02]: And I think they should be thinking about replacing him all together.
- 7:39[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 7:40[SPEAKER_00]: Well, let's get right into the film and coach just like old times you're you're going to be the one absolutely loving this.
- 7:49[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 7:50[SPEAKER_00]: This was I believe one of the very first run plays not one of the very not the very first but one of the very first run plays of the track.
- 8:00[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 8:01[SPEAKER_00]: We kind of see some similarities between the Mike McDaniel run game and the Bobby Slobic run game.
- 8:08[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 8:09[SPEAKER_00]: Um, just right here, we can see Caden Proctor.
- 8:12[SPEAKER_00]: He's pulling into the opposite gap, forcing sunny styles and the ocean all to fall in, right?
- 8:19[SPEAKER_00]: Jonas Vyneye gets to his landmark.
- 8:21[SPEAKER_00]: He gains the leverage just don't wall the one tag.
- 8:24[SPEAKER_00]: While Brewer reaches up to block the three technique.
- 8:28[SPEAKER_00]: The whole open-ups for Hane to find the cutback lane, and he gains around seven yards.
- 8:33[SPEAKER_00]: Now, this was a third and two plate.
- 8:36[SPEAKER_00]: They gained seven yards on that compared to last year, or most of the time on third and short, it was zero or negative yardage.
- 8:44[SPEAKER_00]: It's the same family concept of what Mike McDaniel runs, but the execution is completely different in this play alone.
- 8:53[SPEAKER_00]: We have three technique wins on one play.
- 8:56[SPEAKER_00]: the Caden Proctor who pulls to draw two defenders, Jonas Stonewalling the one tech, Aaron Burrlocken of the three tech, in your opinion, from what you're seeing in this play compared to last season, what do you think specifically change?
- 9:12[SPEAKER_01]: So in my opinion, this is something different than what the Dolphins ran under McDaniel.
- 9:17[SPEAKER_01]: This is more of a a power concept.
- 9:19[SPEAKER_01]: This is basically everybody on the right side of the line is supposed to be blocking down.
- 9:24[SPEAKER_01]: And then you're going to have the full back coming to kick out that end man on the line of scrimmage.
- 9:29[SPEAKER_01]: And then Proctor is looping around to lead through.
- 9:32[SPEAKER_01]: Um, I don't think that Jonah does a great job on this play in a perfect world.
- 9:36[SPEAKER_01]: If you're looking at the way this is drawn up on the chalkboard, Jonah should be washing that defensive tackle down towards Aaron Brewer.
- 9:43[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, but he, you know, it's not a bad job.
- 9:46[SPEAKER_01]: He, um, you know, he doesn't
- 9:48[SPEAKER_01]: He sustains his block long enough to let HN make something happen out of it.
- 9:53[SPEAKER_01]: We're talking about a third and two scenario there.
- 9:57[SPEAKER_01]: You can see why HN would see daylight and get there.
- 10:00[SPEAKER_01]: We only need two yards.
- 10:03[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, I think this is a difference in terms of play concepts.
- 10:07[SPEAKER_01]: I think they ran this specific power play.
- 10:11[SPEAKER_01]: I think five times in this game alone,
- 10:15[SPEAKER_01]: last year when I had chartered them, I had the dolphins running, I think it was definitely less than two, might have been less than one power concept per game.
- 10:24[SPEAKER_01]: So I think this is going to be an important part of Bobby Slook's offense and hope to see them continue to evolve because it was run the same way every time in the game on this past week.
- 10:37[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I look at this plan and I can't help but think that HN didn't go to the place like it looked like he's supposed to follow proctor on the pool, but he and and then just I guess he's supposed to like the way I would teach it if I was you know if I was in the running back room is I would have him just press right up on on proctor and just read the leverage and then just take the whole like you could stop and I'll show you what I actually mean
- 11:08[SPEAKER_02]: When Proctor pulls, I would have H and it's actually right on his butt and then just reading the leverage where they're bounce outside or cut inside and as the play develops, H and uses his vision of which it's considerable.
- 11:24[SPEAKER_02]: And he sees that Proctor is a little late into the whole.
- 11:27[SPEAKER_02]: And he just spots the daylight.
- 11:29[SPEAKER_02]: He understands he needs two yards.
- 11:32[SPEAKER_02]: And he gets two yards.
- 11:37[SPEAKER_02]: running back play.
- 11:38[SPEAKER_02]: But I kind of would have liked to have seen him, you know, press, press that hole where Proctor was because I think that's the play side on the play.
- 11:51[SPEAKER_00]: All right, we're going to get up to the very next play right here.
- 11:56[SPEAKER_00]: And
- 11:58[SPEAKER_00]: I think we can all say Jonas of I and I out looked significantly better compared to last season.
- 12:04[SPEAKER_00]: I think we all agree on that, right?
- 12:08[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, if I was grading up all the offensive linemen, I thought Brewer was perfect.
- 12:14[SPEAKER_02]: But like if we're just gonna toss aside Brewer, I thought Jonas of I and I was their second best offensive linemen.
- 12:23[SPEAKER_00]: And look, right, like last year, Jonah allowed around 30ish pressures, and I think five sacks, if I could remember correctly.
- 12:36[SPEAKER_00]: And, you know, he wasn't rated as one of, he was rated as like a lower guard, propio, right?
- 12:43[SPEAKER_00]: In this play right here, right?
- 12:44[SPEAKER_00]: He works the combo with Aaron Brewer.
- 12:46[SPEAKER_00]: He's climbing up to the second level.
- 12:49[SPEAKER_00]: And he almost stumbles on his feet, right?
- 12:51[SPEAKER_00]: He almost stumbles climbing over to the second level, but he recovers and gets his full body on sunny styles.
- 12:58[SPEAKER_00]: This is what a second and five run play.
- 13:03[SPEAKER_00]: They gain a 1.38 EPA per play.
- 13:06[SPEAKER_00]: So a whole-point positive EPA per play on this.
- 13:12[SPEAKER_00]: I credit this play when to both a Jonah and Aaron Brewer, but also to Old Casemaric on his blocking it.
- 13:20[SPEAKER_00]: If you can see him right over the edge, coach in your opinion does a rep like this and recovering by basically not stumbling and I'll actually tell you that some of the technique problems from Jonah last year are getting fixed.
- 13:40[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, I think you're seeing a better understanding of the system, right?
- 13:44[SPEAKER_01]: We don't have any of the pre-snap motion.
- 13:46[SPEAKER_01]: We talked about that a lot last year.
- 13:48[SPEAKER_01]: It's not about how the pre-snap motion was changing.
- 13:51[SPEAKER_01]: the look at the second level leading to some miscommunication.
- 13:53[SPEAKER_01]: So I think what you're seeing here is that when you watch Jonah come off the ball there, you can see that while his hands are going to the inside to help out Brewer, his eyes are to the outside seeing that linebacker.
- 14:05[SPEAKER_01]: And then once he feels Brewer able to take over that block, then Jonah knows that he can leave.
- 14:12[SPEAKER_01]: And then this is just a great job by HN.
- 14:15[SPEAKER_01]: being able to read that, right?
- 14:16[SPEAKER_01]: He's pressing to the outside to Austin Jackson's block.
- 14:21[SPEAKER_01]: Austin Jackson has inside leverage, so we're going to start to bang that up the middle.
- 14:25[SPEAKER_01]: And then next thing is to read that combo of Jonah and Brewer.
- 14:29[SPEAKER_01]: And then you have Patrick Paul with a nice household play on the back side of that too, to get over there.
- 14:34[SPEAKER_01]: Right, that's a tough angle for a Patrick Paul doesn't take a great angle off the snap to get there.
- 14:40[SPEAKER_01]: But the hustle to get there and to wash that guy over top,
- 14:43[SPEAKER_01]: and then HN cuts off that, right?
- 14:45[SPEAKER_01]: Lots of good stuff on this play, the biggest negative I would say.
- 14:50[SPEAKER_01]: This was probably Cate and Proctor's worst play of the night.
- 14:54[SPEAKER_01]: And this is, again, just understanding of the scheme, him getting across to that one technique in front of Bruer there is a really tough block to ask him to do.
- 15:03[SPEAKER_01]: And you can see that he's got the athleticism to get there.
- 15:07[SPEAKER_01]: But maybe he doesn't get as much contact from that one technique as he expects and kind of falls,
- 15:12[SPEAKER_01]: off-balance here, so that's a learning opportunity for Caden Proctor, but overall, you know, Jonas of I and I, great rep and, you know, good by everybody across the board except for Caden Proctor on this one.
- 15:25[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, HN on this play, you could see that he's reading the landmark and this is the way that Mike Daniel would have probably taught it.
- 15:32[SPEAKER_02]: He's reading the landmark, which is essentially Austin Jackson's outside foot, right?
- 15:38[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 15:38[SPEAKER_02]: And he reads the block and he has the patience to actually, and you can, you can see it right here.
- 15:45[SPEAKER_02]: He presses the whole and look how he, let's run the play.
- 15:51[SPEAKER_02]: Look at the patience he displays, watching Jonah survive and I, getting levered.
- 15:58[SPEAKER_02]: Like right there, most packs are just making a B line right there into the, into the, the B gap and probably getting tackled for a three yard loss.
- 16:06[SPEAKER_02]: He has the pace, page patience to actually slow down and allow Jonah to come off of his duo and get that block.
- 16:16[SPEAKER_02]: And because he has that patience,
- 16:19[SPEAKER_02]: He gets into that hole, and that's an eight-chan run.
- 16:23[SPEAKER_02]: If I'm in the running-back room, if I'm in the offensive meetings, that's a Jonah and HN play, the entire thing.
- 16:34[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and that's, you know, we talk about the running backs in these shenanigans schemes.
- 16:38[SPEAKER_01]: They are coast on these outside zone plays.
- 16:40[SPEAKER_01]: They're taking three steps, like you said, that right foot of the tackle or the ghost tight end, that landmark, they're taking three steps in that direction,
- 16:49[SPEAKER_01]: no matter what and they're making their cut by their fits up.
- 16:52[SPEAKER_01]: And like you said, I'll him taking those three or four steps is what allowed that linebacker to keep flowing allowed Jonah to get off that block and for each hand to set it up.
- 17:03[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I was that that play proctor was not good on that play and maybe if he gets his block way, but there's more yardage here on on this play, but that was teach tape on a chance part and Jonah and I thought Austin Jackson was really good on this play.
- 17:20[SPEAKER_02]: I thought Austin Jackson was really good.
- 17:23[SPEAKER_02]: in the game period.
- 17:25[SPEAKER_02]: If I had to rank all the offensive linemen, I think Brewer was essentially perfect.
- 17:29[SPEAKER_02]: If he watched his game, though Jonah was second, I thought Austin Jackson was third, Paul was fourth and Proctor was fifth and it doesn't mean that Proctor was bad.
- 17:40[SPEAKER_02]: It just means that the other guys were that good.
- 17:42[SPEAKER_02]: I thought in the first unit.
- 17:45[SPEAKER_00]: All right, we'll get to one more offensive line break down, but we will head to break from a message from our sponsor, my bookie.
- 17:58[SPEAKER_00]: Football season is here and Thursday, Saturday, Sundays, Mondays, just got a whole lot more interesting.
- 18:04[SPEAKER_00]: The My Booky Log of the season is back and the first one is an absolute no-brainer.
- 18:08[SPEAKER_00]: With the Patriots in Seattle for Enfo Kickoff, My Booky is asking one simple question.
- 18:13[SPEAKER_00]: Will the Seahawks Razor Championship banner that night?
- 18:17[SPEAKER_00]: their defending champs is their home opener and raising the banner before kickoff is part of the set of celebration.
- 18:24[SPEAKER_00]: So of course, they'll be raising it that night.
- 18:27[SPEAKER_00]: And you're getting that bet at plus money odds.
- 18:30[SPEAKER_00]: That's the first my booky lock of the season and there will be more coming all season long.
- 18:35[SPEAKER_00]: down the up-to-date or click on the link in the description.

- 19:10[SPEAKER_00]: And we're back.
- 19:13[SPEAKER_00]: A lot of good stuff that we saw on the offensive line, but I think the best play for the offensive line, if we're just, you know,
- 19:19[SPEAKER_00]: talking about data, talking about play, um, it was actually the backups on the offensive line on this play right here.
- 19:29[SPEAKER_00]: And Cam Miller was actually the quarterback right here.
- 19:33[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, we'll go ahead and run the play and I'll get into the explanation for a little bit.
- 19:39[SPEAKER_00]: This is a third and 15 and they
- 19:47[SPEAKER_00]: that is enormous besides the box score.
- 19:50[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 19:51[SPEAKER_00]: Nobody was pretty much watching this closely.
- 19:54[SPEAKER_00]: There are three backups here.
- 19:56[SPEAKER_00]: You have Kate and Wallace, Josh, Priebe, Andrew Meyer, who pick up the stunt and twist together.
- 20:02[SPEAKER_00]: DJ Campbell handles his stunt defender perfectly.
- 20:06[SPEAKER_00]: not coach.
- 20:07[SPEAKER_00]: What does this clean stunt recognition from back ups, you know, on this late down later in the game actually tell you just based off what the defense is doing?
- 20:18[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, he's shown you good fundamentals.
- 20:20[SPEAKER_01]: Like, this is not a complicated stunt, right?
- 20:23[SPEAKER_01]: It's just a double tackle end twist.
- 20:26[SPEAKER_01]: But it's good.
- 20:28[SPEAKER_01]: Fundamentals, you talked about DJ Campbell.
- 20:31[SPEAKER_01]: You know, these guards when those
- 20:33[SPEAKER_01]: defense of tackles go to the outside like that.
- 20:36[SPEAKER_01]: Sometimes they tend to get turned completely and almost get their shoulders perpendicular to the line of scrimmage, and Campbell does get turned some here, but you can see that he is still in a decent position that as that twist is happening, he's able to to catch it basically and same thing with Andrew Meyer here on the right side on the right side.
- 20:58[SPEAKER_01]: He got that half slide so everybody just has there.
- 21:00[SPEAKER_01]: gap to the right and when the ball is snapped, you can see that myr's eyes are going to that linebacker number 51, right?
- 21:07[SPEAKER_01]: But he's not, so when he's setting up, he's not flying over to that defensive tackle.
- 21:13[SPEAKER_01]: He's getting a little bit of vertical drop watching that linebacker and keep in his shoulder square as well.
- 21:18[SPEAKER_01]: So that when that defensive end comes back to the outside, he's in a good position to to catch him.
- 21:23[SPEAKER_01]: So I think that just overall, like this kind of leans to good
- 21:28[SPEAKER_02]: good fun to metals just good good basics why I would say yeah that's this this is pretty good looking stuff uh and tomorrow i did not think played all that great later on in the game i thought he was really really good when he had proctor and and seven i is seven i next to him uh on on the first unit uh i thought he faded a little bit toward the end of the game this is not one of those those instances this is
- 21:54[SPEAKER_02]: teach tape and I kind of like what Kaden Wallace does here like he doesn't overset and he keeps contact with a defender which is what they teach so it's actually good to see something like that you know especially from your backups because there wasn't a whole lot to like from those two back of quarterbacks but to see something like that that's pretty and that was a great play that pump me up a little bit I thought that can Miller because he seems to be
- 22:21[SPEAKER_02]: As you watch him in training camp, he seems to be a guy that confidence tends to grow on him.
- 22:27[SPEAKER_02]: He starts growing a little bit, starts trying different things, and then gets to railed and he's right back to square one, which is to say that he's probably not an NFL back of quarterback.
- 22:40[SPEAKER_02]: But I thought that he was going to, you know, he was going to run off a few completions after that one because that was one of the better looking plays of the entire day.
- 22:52[SPEAKER_00]: All right, now we'll get to two plays on the defense.
- 22:56[SPEAKER_00]: I think Chopper Robinson had a fantastic preseason showing right here.
- 23:03[SPEAKER_00]: I'll be at, it was again, second level offensive one.
- 23:06[SPEAKER_00]: All right, he's got a textbook way to set the edge.
- 23:10[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, he's lined up as a Y9 edge, gets past the tight end.
- 23:14[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's Ben's, Ben's and not from your Kansas state who was drafted last year as a rookie.
- 23:21[SPEAKER_00]: He gets past the tight end and he looks like he's about to get swallowed by Chris Paul, Patrick Paul's brother.
- 23:27[SPEAKER_00]: So Chris Paul, he's the pulling guard right there.
- 23:30[SPEAKER_00]: Instead, he lowers his shoulder,
- 23:33[SPEAKER_00]: And uses his hands to disorient Chris Paul and he's able to clog the running lane that what he does right there by lowering his shoulder and using his hands to spell out.
- 23:45[SPEAKER_00]: are spill basically, the hand is called the spill technique for Chris Paul.
- 23:50[SPEAKER_00]: All right, this is a textbook run defense rep from Chop Robinson who has been criticized the last two years by not being able to set the edge that he was only a past rusher.
- 24:04[SPEAKER_00]: He only had a quick first step.
- 24:05[SPEAKER_00]: He wasn't strong enough.
- 24:07[SPEAKER_00]: This played right here, coach.
- 24:10[SPEAKER_00]: What does it say in his growth from the last two years to now?
- 24:16[SPEAKER_01]: it's a great it's a great job of like you said using that spill technique right this is when you know that you have somebody else that has that outside contains so he knows he has Willie Gay is the one that's that has to keep that play to the inside so he's using what you call a wrong arm technique where you know he's not he's not giving um
- 24:36[SPEAKER_01]: giving Chris Paul a clean target to hit, but what I liked most about this was that he was in his contact balance, right?
- 24:45[SPEAKER_01]: We talk about contact balance all the time with somebody like Devon HN, but Chris Paul gets decent contact on him, but Chop Robinson is a good job, maintaining his balance, and then being able to fight back off and get back to the outside,
- 25:05[SPEAKER_01]: and at the same time still turned it back in.
- 25:08[SPEAKER_01]: So just the, you know, that takes a good amount of power to be able to do that.
- 25:12[SPEAKER_01]: So I think this was fantastic technique here.
- 25:15[SPEAKER_01]: It shows good discipline football, right?
- 25:18[SPEAKER_01]: You see some defensive ends that get into this position, especially the the guys that you look at as more of past rush specialists and they get engulfed by these pulling guards,
- 25:33[SPEAKER_01]: a good discipline football from Trap Robinson, in my opinion.
- 25:38[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 25:39[SPEAKER_02]: Usually linebackers are going to call this out and they're going to, it's either a trap and you'll hear trap or it's a cross block which this is like, and on that cross block, as soon as you hear a cross, like you know to get small and stop moving your feet.
- 25:54[SPEAKER_02]: Like that's the most important thing you can do when you're setting the ages.
- 25:58[SPEAKER_02]: Get is getting small and stop setting your, it's not moving your feet because if you move your feet,
- 26:04[SPEAKER_02]: you extend your hands, that's what an offensive lineman wants you to do because then he was just right you the hell out of there, right?
- 26:12[SPEAKER_02]: I thought he did a fabulous job of getting small, stopping his feet, making himself hard to move, and then he was slippery enough to try to get back into the play, but at that point it didn't matter because he was already turning the play toward his tacklers that were that were uncovering.
- 26:28[SPEAKER_02]: So, very, very nice play from Chop Robertson who, for my money, if we had to rank all the players on the team, I don't think anybody's had a better camp than Chop Robertson.
- 26:43[SPEAKER_00]: All right, last play of the night, Ruggedly linebacked Jacob rugby is.
- 26:50[SPEAKER_00]: In this play right here, he's able to time the quarterback's cadence.
- 26:54[SPEAKER_00]: He gets into the running start, right?
- 26:56[SPEAKER_00]: He's able to explode right into the center's chest.
- 26:59[SPEAKER_00]: Basically, very simple run and displace drill that we see in practice all the time at the start of camp with the dummies, right?
- 27:08[SPEAKER_00]: He's able to explode into the center's chest.
- 27:11[SPEAKER_00]: He displaces the center's right arm, like how you said.
- 27:15[SPEAKER_00]: Coach, what was that technique called the strong arm technique?
- 27:19[SPEAKER_00]: the long arm the long arm technique on the right arm is that the same technique that it's a little bit slow.
- 27:25[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, just someone.
- 27:28[SPEAKER_01]: Some of you usually don't get your whole body.
- 27:29[SPEAKER_01]: You does a good job of extending with his arm after the contact.
- 27:32[SPEAKER_01]: Usually that long arm comes as the initial contact when we're talking about it from an adressor perspective, but it's in the same family for sure.
- 27:40[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 27:40[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, then he does that.
- 27:41[SPEAKER_00]: He's able to drive his hip forward.
- 27:42[SPEAKER_00]: So if you're able to see he moves his hip a little bit into the agap, it allows him to step get that quick step on the center and the entire time the center is holding onto JRots left arm and he's able to manage to bat the ball.
- 27:57[SPEAKER_00]: Just to expose it into the chest, the hip drive, batting the ball down while the center is holding his other arm out.
- 28:04[SPEAKER_00]: Break down this sequence and tell us, does a rep like this potentially settle the question between Tyrell Dots and
- 28:12[SPEAKER_00]: and Jacob Rodriguez, cam competition for you.
- 28:15[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, this is a very, very refined skill here by Jacob Rodriguez.
- 28:19[SPEAKER_02]: First of all, notice that at the point of contact, his hands are inside.
- 28:23[SPEAKER_02]: The worst thing you could do as a linebacker is get your right between the one and the zero get that punched from an offensive lineman because if you get punched there, the rush is over, right?
- 28:34[SPEAKER_02]: So you keep his hands compact.
- 28:36[SPEAKER_02]: So he could essentially deflect the punch, and if you see at the point of contact, he's deflecting the punch, and you could see how 61's hands leave the framework.
- 28:45[SPEAKER_02]: Like you could see right here at the point of contact.
- 28:48[SPEAKER_02]: The point of contact, look at 61's hands get outside the framework, and that's because Jacob Rodriguez is already swiping at the punch.
- 28:55[SPEAKER_02]: So as soon as he swipes at the punch, offensive Lyme doesn't have the balance now.
- 28:59[SPEAKER_02]: to block a Swiftier faster guy and not Jacob Rodriguez pretty much has him at his mercy.
- 29:05[SPEAKER_02]: He sees daylight and wherever you see daylight, that's where you're running, gets in the quarterback's face, makes a play.
- 29:13[SPEAKER_00]: All right, let's all the five clips for tonight and before we go, if you synthesize all five of these clips into one sentence about
- 29:29[SPEAKER_00]: coach.
- 29:30[SPEAKER_00]: What is this?
- 29:33[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I think it's what Coach Haffley's talked about for the last couple weeks, talking about joint practices and these precies and games.
- 29:40[SPEAKER_01]: It's it's good fundamentals, it's good techniques, right?
- 29:43[SPEAKER_01]: They're not they're not trying to outsmart the other team.
- 29:47[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously you got a blitz by Jacob Rodriguez, they're going to have some of that stuff.
- 29:51[SPEAKER_01]: But across the board,
- 29:57[SPEAKER_01]: going out to the Begap, starting from a two-eye technique, and then widening out to the Begap of that guard, which was giving Jacob Rodriguez extra room to work with.
- 30:06[SPEAKER_01]: So you just see players playing selfless football, playing good assignment, sound football, and I think that's, you know, you start from there and then you slowly add on to that and you can get more creative with it, but I think it's important what Coach Halfley has been doing with preaching fundamentals and basics.
- 30:25[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, like if I was going to sign any words, I think coach said it best.
- 30:29[SPEAKER_02]: It's like technique.
- 30:32[SPEAKER_02]: It's also skill.
- 30:33[SPEAKER_02]: We saw some guys that are really, really, really good at what they do in some of those clips.
- 30:38[SPEAKER_02]: Namely, Devon HN made a couple of those runs.
- 30:41[SPEAKER_02]: Join us if I know I thought it was...
- 30:43[SPEAKER_02]: the best offensive lineman besides Aaron Brewer and of course Jacob Rodriguez, the guy who's been doing it since day one.
- 30:51[SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, it's technique, it's fundamentals.
- 30:55[SPEAKER_02]: How many times do you see a landbacker rush and then you're watching the broadcast copy and you're thinking to yourself, well,
- 31:04[SPEAKER_02]: That blitz was in good.
- 31:05[SPEAKER_02]: He got picked up.
- 31:06[SPEAKER_02]: You know, that blitz got picked up.
- 31:07[SPEAKER_02]: There's a reason why those blitzes get picked up.
- 31:09[SPEAKER_02]: Probably bad technique.
- 31:11[SPEAKER_02]: Your hands are outside the framework.
- 31:13[SPEAKER_02]: You let offensive linemen's punch get to your chest.
- 31:16[SPEAKER_02]: And that's how rushes get stopped.
- 31:18[SPEAKER_02]: Remember.
- 31:20[SPEAKER_02]: As soon as you receive, if you're the smaller man and you receive a punch from an offensive lineman, your rush is over.
- 31:27[SPEAKER_02]: don't allow that to happen.
- 31:29[SPEAKER_02]: That's good fundamentals, good technique.
- 31:31[SPEAKER_02]: You saw players that have always exhibited good fundamentals and good technique, just implemented in a game.
- 31:38[SPEAKER_02]: And that's the kind of stuff that makes you excited about watching on Saturday at 4 o'clock to see that continue.
- 31:45[SPEAKER_00]: Yep, we'll review the joint practices in our episode tomorrow and we'll review the film after the Dolphin's preseason game on Saturday up against the New York Giants.
