- 1:36SPEAKER_04: So, thank y'all for being along for the ride.
- 1:37SPEAKER_04: No, we really do appreciate all the support.
- 1:39SPEAKER_04: I mean, it's just having we love having fun with y'all.
- 1:42SPEAKER_05: No doubt.
- 1:42SPEAKER_05: And to that, we have an episode this week where not a lot is going on with Texas Tech University.
- 1:49SPEAKER_05: Uh, baseball got some cancellations this past weekend, so we can't we're we'll talk, we'll talk.
- 1:55SPEAKER_05: Yeah, they were scared.
- 1:56SPEAKER_05: Chicago was scared, or was it Illinois or something?
- 1:59SPEAKER_04: It was some I think I think I thought it was uh Leola, Chicago Leola, it might have been Loyal.
- 2:05SPEAKER_05: Uh I don't know, man.
- 2:06SPEAKER_05: No, I don't know.
- 2:08SPEAKER_05: Something got canceled with baseball, so we didn't play this weekend, but we'll kind of run down the kind of going down to the final of the Big 12.
- 2:17SPEAKER_05: You know, who's gonna win it?
- 2:19SPEAKER_05: Tech still actually has a chance uh mathematically, not looking good, but we'll go into that here in a second.
- 2:25SPEAKER_05: But to start it off, we haven't talked about the smaller sports in a while.
- 2:29SPEAKER_05: There's been a lot going on with basketball, with some football, spring training, baseball.
- 2:34SPEAKER_05: So we're gonna kind of touch on some things that are happening uh with the smaller sports.
- 2:40SPEAKER_05: Let's go with men's and women's tennis.
- 2:43SPEAKER_05: They both fall in the postseason, both had great seasons.
- 2:47SPEAKER_05: The men fall to Georgia in day three of the D1 championships, women fall to UCLA in day two of their championships, but shout out to the men's and women's tennis teams at Texas Tech.
- 3:00SPEAKER_05: They both had great seasons, they showed a lot of good stuff this year.
- 3:05SPEAKER_05: Uh, shout out to them.
- 3:06SPEAKER_04: Nothing to be ashamed of, man.
- 3:08SPEAKER_04: Getting to the postseason every time is always an accomplishment.
- 3:10SPEAKER_04: And we have a phenomenal tennis program at Texas Tech.
- 3:13SPEAKER_04: So it's just a great year to hang your hat on and just look forward to the future to see what we can do in the future here.
- 3:19SPEAKER_04: So, I mean, hats off to the gentlemen and ladies.
- 3:22SPEAKER_05: No doubt.
- 3:23SPEAKER_05: They had uh they had really strong seasons and a lot of good young players.
- 3:27SPEAKER_05: So good for the future of Texas Tech tennis.
- 3:31SPEAKER_05: So moving on to golf, the men advance to the 19th, their 19th straight NCA tournament.
- 3:39SPEAKER_05: They are going to be a four seed in the Albuquerque regional.
- 3:44SPEAKER_05: Uh, just impressive stuff from the dudes.
- 3:46SPEAKER_05: It could just continues to be great.
- 3:47SPEAKER_04: Our streak is as old as some tech students.
- 3:51SPEAKER_04: That's incredible.
- 3:52SPEAKER_04: Probably as old as some of our listeners.
- 3:53SPEAKER_04: So that's incredible work.
- 3:55SPEAKER_04: I mean, it are just like the tennis program, the golf program doesn't get enough love.
- 3:59SPEAKER_04: They've been nothing but rock solid here.
- 4:01SPEAKER_04: And whenever you have a golf course as beautiful as the Rawls, you gotta be good.
- 4:05SPEAKER_04: You can't have a subparts scene with that beauty of a golf course.
- 4:08SPEAKER_05: Yeah, no doubt.
- 4:09SPEAKER_05: And so just to kind of break it down, I am new to uh collegiate golf.
- 4:15SPEAKER_05: I have not really kept up with it in the past, so I kind of did a little research on it.
- 4:19SPEAKER_05: The NTA tournament is broken into six regional sites where teams will play a 54-hole tournament from May 17th through the 19th.
- 4:28SPEAKER_05: So Texas Tech in Texas Tech's group, we have Oklahoma, Arizona State, Texas AM, New Mexico, Stanford, Oregon State, Boise State, South Carolina, Nevada, San Diego, New Mexico State, Oakland, and Prairie View AM.
- 4:45SPEAKER_05: So we better beat all of them.
- 4:48SPEAKER_04: You listed a lot of teams.
- 4:50SPEAKER_04: I would definitely like to uh be on the better half of there.
- 4:53SPEAKER_04: So but with the way our team performed this season, it could absolutely happen, especially with our boy, the Swedish fish.
- 5:00SPEAKER_05: Ludwig Aberg, the Swedish fish, the greatest golfer in Texas Tech history, maybe I don't know.
- 5:06SPEAKER_04: Probably the best Swede to ever enter West Texas.
- 5:09SPEAKER_05: No doubt.
- 5:09SPEAKER_05: He's still confused as to what Lubbock is.
- 5:12SPEAKER_05: It this is not Sweden, but he loves it here, and he's doing fantastic.
- 5:17SPEAKER_05: So shouts out Ludwig Aberg.
- 5:19SPEAKER_05: The women's golf, currently 11th place in their Louisville regional.
- 5:24SPEAKER_05: So, you know, keep it up, ladies.
- 5:26SPEAKER_05: This is a uh it's a long stretch, you know.
- 5:28SPEAKER_05: Keep it going.
- 5:29SPEAKER_05: Uh, we're still rooting you on.
- 5:31SPEAKER_04: Absolutely.
- 5:32SPEAKER_04: I mean, just like the men's team, the the women do not slouch at all.
- 5:35SPEAKER_04: So, especially then bring home some hardware.
- 5:37SPEAKER_04: We love that.
- 5:38SPEAKER_05: Yeah, absolutely.
- 5:39SPEAKER_05: So, softball sixth seed going into the Big 12 tournament.
- 5:43SPEAKER_05: Not a great season for the ladies.
- 5:45SPEAKER_05: Uh, they fought, they fell a lot when Big 12 play came around.
- 5:49SPEAKER_05: Uh, unfortunately, the Big 12 is loaded with softball talent.
- 5:53SPEAKER_05: OU looks like they're gonna be unbeatable, really.
- 5:57SPEAKER_05: So, um, but first first year under the new regime, new head coach.
- 6:01SPEAKER_05: So, you know, ladies, keep your heads up.
- 6:03SPEAKER_05: Y'all had, you know, yeah, maybe we can make some noise in the Big 12 tournament.
- 6:07SPEAKER_05: Who knows?
- 6:08SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I mean, I was about to say this this is not a season to really look at with the softball team.
- 6:11SPEAKER_04: I mean, we just gotta applaud them for uh making it through with their best foot forward because talk about a turbulent offseason, you know, with the with the allegations and the new coach.
- 6:21SPEAKER_04: And uh, I'm just glad that we came out on the other side and hopefully we have a good future to look forward to.
- 6:26SPEAKER_05: Yeah, absolutely.
- 6:27SPEAKER_05: So let's go a little Big 12 baseball, uh, just uh the race, kind of breaking it down.
- 6:32SPEAKER_05: Texas Tech is currently four and a half games back of TCU.
- 6:36SPEAKER_05: Uh Tech still has two Big 12 three-game series, one against OU, one against Kansas left.
- 6:44SPEAKER_05: Both of those teams we shouldn't have an issue with.
- 6:46SPEAKER_05: Um, but really we have to have a lot of stuff go our way if we have you know want a chance at the big at winning the Big 12.
- 6:54SPEAKER_05: So we pretty much have to go 6-0 of these two series.
- 6:58SPEAKER_05: Um, both Texas and TCU are above us right now.
- 7:01SPEAKER_05: TCU in the lead of all the Big 12.
- 7:04SPEAKER_05: They only have a series with K-State left.
- 7:07SPEAKER_05: They basically have to be swept or they yeah, by K State.
- 7:12SPEAKER_05: Um, and Texas has a series with West Virginia left.
- 7:15SPEAKER_05: They have to lose two of those games, and then we have to win out to win the Big 12.
- 7:19SPEAKER_05: So not looking good for the Red Raiders, but it is good knowing that we have beaten both of those top dogs in the Big 12 right now.
- 7:27SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I mean, you say we should have a problem with the teams that we're coming up and facing.
- 7:31SPEAKER_04: Unfortunately, the teams we shouldn't have a problem with have put us in this position.
- 7:34SPEAKER_04: It hasn't been we've beaten all the best teams in the Big 12.
- 7:37SPEAKER_04: Yeah, we had no we we took care of TCU, we took care of uh Texas, we took care of Oklahoma State, and but whenever we played K-St, we lose the series.
- 7:46SPEAKER_04: We play Baylor, we lose the series.
- 7:47SPEAKER_04: And it's just those are the teams that put us in this position, unfortunately.
- 7:52SPEAKER_04: But the good news is, you know, even if we can't really look forward to a unlikely Big 12 championship, we can still look forward to perhaps getting a very high seed, a top eight seed here in the in the postseason.
- 8:04SPEAKER_04: And that's that's the goal right now.
- 8:05SPEAKER_04: Just making the best of what we have.
- 8:07SPEAKER_04: I mean, I would love to get that Big 12 trophy, but I think I can speak for everybody when I say I would rather get to Omaha.
- 8:14SPEAKER_05: Oh, absolutely.
- 8:14SPEAKER_05: That's what really matters.
- 8:15SPEAKER_05: We're not like, you know, Big 12, it's it's big time and it's fun to win those things, but uh Omaha's the real goal here.
- 8:23SPEAKER_05: So uh for sure.
- 8:24SPEAKER_04: And and at a program like what that Texas Tech has turned itself into, that's the expectation now.
- 8:29SPEAKER_04: It's not so much that we're we're are we hanging our hat on exclusively Big 12 championships.
- 8:34SPEAKER_04: I'm not gonna say we're too good for them at all.
- 8:35SPEAKER_04: I I would love adding those to the case, but it's we have our eyes on national championships now.
- 8:41SPEAKER_04: Like we have high aspirations in this baseball team.
- 8:44SPEAKER_04: So and if we can get there, it can happen.
- 8:47SPEAKER_04: So let's let's go, boys.
- 8:48SPEAKER_05: Yeah, man.
- 8:49SPEAKER_05: Finish the season off strong.
- 8:50SPEAKER_05: Uh, we'll be rooting for you as always, uh, even in Oklahoma City for the Big 12 tournament to end it off.
- 8:56SPEAKER_05: And then in Omaha, hopefully we'll be hosting a regional, super regional, whatever that ends up being.
- 9:02SPEAKER_05: So uh still a good shot.
- 9:04SPEAKER_05: Keep an eye out for Texas Tech Baseball as they end the season.
- 9:08SPEAKER_05: But we did, since our last recording, have two more additions to the men's basketball team to Mark Adams squad, uh, number one being Davion Warren, a grad transfer senior out of Hampton University, averaged 21.2 points per game, which by the way was 13th in all of college basketball last season.
- 9:33SPEAKER_05: Uh 6.3 rebounds a game, three assists a game, two steals a game.
- 9:38SPEAKER_05: He's 6'6, he's 210 pounds, he's a guard forward hybrid.
- 9:42SPEAKER_05: Dude's awesome.
- 9:44SPEAKER_04: Adding a high-scoring guy to the defensive juggernaut here in Lubbock.
- 9:48SPEAKER_04: I like to hear it, man.
- 9:50SPEAKER_04: So you say graduate senior, did COVID give him an extra year too?
- 9:55SPEAKER_04: To how many years?
- 9:56SPEAKER_04: How many years could we give it a guy?
- 9:57SPEAKER_05: This next year will be his last year.
- 10:00SPEAKER_05: So, yeah, I mean, COVID gave him this extra year.
- 10:03SPEAKER_05: So, you know, we wouldn't have had him if it wasn't for COVID.
- 10:06SPEAKER_05: So, I mean, it's kind of good.
- 10:07SPEAKER_05: You you give and take, you know.
- 10:09SPEAKER_04: Yeah, absolutely.
- 10:09SPEAKER_04: We'll take the experience.
- 10:10SPEAKER_05: Yeah, no doubt.
- 10:11SPEAKER_05: So the things I wrote about after watching some Davion Warren highlight tape on YouTube, whatever, he's a pure scorer, dude.
- 10:20SPEAKER_05: He knows how to get the ball through the hoop in whatever way possible.
- 10:24SPEAKER_05: He can score in the fast break, he can uh post up scoring, he's off the screen scoring.
- 10:29SPEAKER_05: And the good thing is he's 6'6, he's a guard forward hybrid.
- 10:32SPEAKER_05: He can really just be anywhere on the perimeter, he can work inside, he can do a lot of different things, and he can get that ball through the hoop for Hampton.
- 10:41SPEAKER_05: Uh, game kind of resembles Chris Middleton in a little bit of ways.
- 10:45SPEAKER_05: All of you Milwaukee Bucks fans out there that aren't listening to this.
- 10:49SPEAKER_05: Uh he just Cream City, worst uniform of all time.
- 10:55SPEAKER_05: Uh, if you haven't checked it out, look at the Milwaukee Bucks City edition uniforms.
- 11:00SPEAKER_05: They say cream city, it's awful.
- 11:02SPEAKER_05: It's the worst idea of all time.
- 11:04SPEAKER_04: The market fan though, why don't you be about it?
- 11:07SPEAKER_04: Come on.
- 11:07SPEAKER_05: I mean, sure, if you're a Bucks fan, but like uh looking at it from an outsider perspective, you see Cream City and you're like, why?
- 11:14SPEAKER_05: Why are you doing this?
- 11:15SPEAKER_04: Well, I don't think you and I have spent a single minute in the state of Wisconsin.
- 11:18SPEAKER_05: So no, we haven't.
- 11:20SPEAKER_05: No, we haven't.
- 11:21SPEAKER_05: But the Spurs did just beat the Bucs, by the way.
- 11:24SPEAKER_05: Shout out to the Spurs.
- 11:25SPEAKER_05: But just back to Davion Warren.
- 11:27SPEAKER_05: We're we're getting off topic here.
- 11:28SPEAKER_05: Back to Davion Warren.
- 11:30SPEAKER_05: Uh, just in terms of release, he gets that it's how he gets most of his looks uh off the screen and roll.
- 11:37SPEAKER_05: He just looks like watching Chris Middleton play at obviously at a lower level.
- 11:41SPEAKER_05: He's not an NBA All-Star, but um look at looking at Chris Middleton play, looking at Davion Warren, they kind of they're kind of similar in their games.
- 11:50SPEAKER_05: Um, and then just a fun fact, he had a two-game stretch last season where he put up 61 points and 17 rebounds in the span of two games.
- 11:58SPEAKER_05: So, dude can ball, dude.
- 12:01SPEAKER_04: I I'm loving how this team is taking advantage of this transfer portal.
- 12:05SPEAKER_04: I know we're about to get right into this next guy where it's the same thing, but you know, we were kind of complaining about the transfer portal a few weeks ago, and now we said, you know, it's gonna be a give and take.
- 12:14SPEAKER_04: Now we're in the takings, finally, you know.
- 12:16SPEAKER_04: So finally, um it kind of hurt there for a while, but uh I'm really glad to see that uh Coach Adams, which I think he's kind of known for, being able to take advantage of that portal, you know, kind of being able to lure those guys over.
- 12:27SPEAKER_04: So I'm excited.
- 12:28SPEAKER_04: Well, at least experience with you know, looking outside the D1 scope.
- 12:33SPEAKER_05: So well, it is D1, but yeah, Hampton's D1, but he did spend time in JUCO, so he has that JUCO experience that Mark Adams and Barry Peary are so familiar with.
- 12:44SPEAKER_04: So yeah, all my point was he's not gonna be overlooking, guys.
- 12:48SPEAKER_04: So he knows where to look.
- 12:50SPEAKER_05: Absolutely.
- 12:51SPEAKER_05: So moving on to our second edition, just got on the roster.
- 12:56SPEAKER_05: Uh signed, I think today, uh Malik Wilson, a sophomore out of Louisiana, the Raging Cajuns.
- 13:04SPEAKER_05: He joins uh Texas Tech.
- 13:06SPEAKER_05: He's a guard, uh averaged nearly 13 points a game, five and a half rebounds, 3.2 assists, two steals.
- 13:13SPEAKER_05: So, you know, Mark Adams is getting the same type of guy.
- 13:17SPEAKER_05: You can see who he's targeting, uh, guys that love to play defense that are really have quick hands, play, you know, get a ton of steals, but also can produce on the offensive side.
- 13:28SPEAKER_05: So, um, you know, this guy just adds to what Mark Adams is building here at tech.
- 13:34SPEAKER_04: Absolutely.
- 13:34SPEAKER_04: This kid's already got a nice sheet of medals because he was freshman year, uh, freshman of the year in the Sundelt conference.
- 13:42SPEAKER_04: The guy was is is picked by many to be the best guard remaining in the transfer portal.
- 13:47SPEAKER_04: So what a get.
- 13:48SPEAKER_04: And the the guy's true D1, you know, it's a G5 play, but true D1 has been on that hardware hardwood court plenty.
- 13:56SPEAKER_04: So I'm looking forward to seeing what he can bring to the Texas Tech team because the the guard position is a bit of a mystery right now, isn't it?
- 14:04SPEAKER_05: I mean, it is.
- 14:05SPEAKER_05: I we have a lot of guards forwards kind of you know in that range right now, but in terms of like at the point guard position, we're kind of unknown.
- 14:16SPEAKER_05: I mean, that Malik Wilson now adds to that.
- 14:19SPEAKER_05: Mac McClung, we still don't know what he's doing.
- 14:22SPEAKER_05: Uh Clarence Nedolny's coming back, so we don't really know.
- 14:25SPEAKER_05: Uh we're just adding more depth, if anything, with Malik Wilson.
- 14:29SPEAKER_05: He may be a starter next season.
- 14:31SPEAKER_04: See, that's what I was expecting because I think this is kind of this kind of goes directly into the Mac McClung discussion, doesn't it?
- 14:37SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 14:38SPEAKER_04: Um doesn't this kind of give a hint to how uh we're feeling about Mac McClung coming back?
- 14:44SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I mean, if anything, Malik Wilson joining the team is probably a uh more it probably means Mac isn't coming back.
- 14:53SPEAKER_05: Uh I don't know that though.
- 14:55SPEAKER_05: You know, I I I don't know what's happening with Mac McClung.
- 15:00SPEAKER_05: It seems like he's kind of uh torn on his decision on whether to come back for another year or to test the Pearl Waters and either go overseas, go NBA, whatever.
- 15:10SPEAKER_05: Regardless of what Mac chooses, we have a guy to now play point guard and handle the ball a lot.
- 15:15SPEAKER_05: So um I think that's what Coach Adams is and this is the problem kind of with what the state of college basketball right now is you have to balance these guys who want to put their name in the NBA draft but potentially could pull out.
- 15:30SPEAKER_05: Uh, you are trying to balance these transfers, you know.
- 15:33SPEAKER_05: Obviously, once these guys come and put their name in the transfer portal, you want to hop on them and you want to say, hey, you know, this guy would be a great addition to our team.
- 15:41SPEAKER_05: I know we have Mac McClung possibly coming back, but also, you know, this guy would be an awesome get.
- 15:47SPEAKER_05: So we have to go after him because if Mac decides to go pro, then if we don't go after him, we're kind of screwed.
- 15:55SPEAKER_05: So um it's it's just a weird balance of college basketball right now.
- 15:58SPEAKER_04: How does Steven Rodriguez fit fix that problem though?
- 16:02SPEAKER_05: Uh, I think there's a couple different ways.
- 16:05SPEAKER_05: Um, and I'm not an expert on this, but what I will say is a way to fix this problem is probably moving the deadline to when you drop you can drop out of the NBA draft to either earlier in the year or you make a grace period, probably a two-month period, where everybody that announces that they're entering the transfer portal cannot be contacted by a college or university until a certain date.
- 16:36SPEAKER_05: And then you make it like a deadline, you make it like a maybe like a June through August or something, a period where colleges can sign guys in the transfer portal and cannot contact them until later.
- 16:49SPEAKER_05: I I I think that's the only solution to this.
- 16:52SPEAKER_05: I think eventually the NCAA is gonna have to come to some sort of resolution to this because right now it's kind of a free-for-all, and it's it's just it hurts teams because they don't know if their guys are coming back and then they have to sign new guys.
- 17:06SPEAKER_05: It's just it's just all over the place, man.
- 17:08SPEAKER_04: For sure.
- 17:09SPEAKER_04: So do you think the longer players wait to announce that they're going to the NBA, does that lean more towards their staying or leaving, typically, would you say?
- 17:18SPEAKER_05: It just depends.
- 17:19SPEAKER_05: It really does.
- 17:20SPEAKER_05: I mean, uh, it it's different for every player.
- 17:23SPEAKER_05: Mac could be talking to teams right now, could be working out for different, you know, getting advice from guys.
- 17:29SPEAKER_05: The thing is, he's he's not hiring agent, neither is Terrence Shannon.
- 17:33SPEAKER_05: As soon as soon as you hire an agent, you're in the NBA draft.
- 17:37SPEAKER_05: That's the rule.
- 17:38SPEAKER_05: So um with Mac, uh I he's just kind of talking to a bunch of different people right now and seeing where he lands.
- 17:46SPEAKER_05: I'm I'm sure he's looking at all of his options in terms of going overseas and doing that whole route, potentially returning for another year.
- 17:54SPEAKER_05: Um, so he's just he's just covering all his bases, and I don't blame him for taking a good while to figure out this decision because it is a huge decision.
- 18:03SPEAKER_05: And uh, you know, when you come back to school, you are risking a possible injury, you're risking a lot of different things.
- 18:10SPEAKER_05: Uh, it could just be a down year for you, and then your stock falls.
- 18:14SPEAKER_05: So um it's just all over the place, man.
- 18:17SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it's just it's just a really mystery question mark time for us.
- 18:22SPEAKER_04: It's just exacerbated by the coaching change and everything.
- 18:25SPEAKER_04: So it's just it's just nice to talk about clarity because I think we all want clarity, we all want to know what the next team is gonna look like, and so it it's just it's a it's an interesting time, man.
- 18:35SPEAKER_04: But I'm very happy that we grab these transfers because it just kind of gives that stability that we're looking for.
- 18:39SPEAKER_05: Yeah, for sure.
- 18:40SPEAKER_05: And it's just don't get too excited.
- 18:44SPEAKER_05: I mean, just when anybody signs to your program, they can still get released from that and eventually move on, and that's just the state of college basketball.
- 18:52SPEAKER_05: I mean, if Mac decides to come back, Malik Wilson may not be happy that he, you know, he doesn't get what he's promised from maybe Coach Adams or whatever, so he may get released.
- 19:01SPEAKER_05: But right now, we're only going to talk about who is officially signed with Texas Tech, who is currently on the roster.
- 19:07SPEAKER_05: So he's currently on the roster, and his game resembles.
- 19:12SPEAKER_05: I like to give comparisons on what these incomers look like uh towards popular NBA players, you know, in terms of style of play.
- 19:20SPEAKER_05: So I think Malik Wilson kind of reminds me of John Moran a little bit, all you Grizzlies fans out there that again aren't listening to this podcast.
- 19:28SPEAKER_05: Um uh he's just he's very loose when he's out there, uh, watching some Raging Cajun highlights from on YouTube from last season.
- 19:36SPEAKER_05: He just he's very active on the glass for a guard.
- 19:39SPEAKER_05: He kind of palms the ball.
- 19:41SPEAKER_05: He has that kind of rajan rondo uh mentality towards it where he's just kind of you know lackadaisical at times with the ball, doesn't you know wants wants to show?
- 19:52SPEAKER_05: I don't know.
- 19:52SPEAKER_05: It's a weird thing with basketball, some basketball players where they just feel like they're too good for the court and too good for their competition, and that may have been him last year.
- 20:02SPEAKER_05: I I'm not gonna judge this guy's character before he comes on to campus, but little John Moran.
- 20:09SPEAKER_04: Does that does that mean a lack of fundamentals?
- 20:12SPEAKER_04: Favorite basketball word?
- 20:13SPEAKER_05: A little bit, a little lack of fundamentals, not very Tim Duncan-like for this guy.
- 20:18SPEAKER_04: I'll I'll say well, if if you think if he thinks he's too good for his competition in the Sunbelt, well, wait until the Big 12.
- 20:26SPEAKER_04: So I'm sure I'm sure that'll be quite the wake-up call.
- 20:29SPEAKER_04: And but I mean, obviously, we don't we don't know if that's the case, but uh that's an interesting analysis.
- 20:33SPEAKER_04: No, no Tim Duncan, huh?
- 20:34SPEAKER_04: No Old Man River.
- 20:36SPEAKER_05: No, no, no Old Man River walk for uh for John Morant or John Morant for uh for Malik for Malik Wilson.
- 20:44SPEAKER_05: Not a game resembles John Morant, but also he's got kind of a funky looking jump shot, I will say.
- 20:50SPEAKER_05: Uh after watching him shoot, he didn't shoot well from three last season, only 24.
- 20:54SPEAKER_05: So he's not gonna really add that to Texas Tech, but he is a uh decent shooter, a good shooter from the free throw line.
- 21:01SPEAKER_05: I think he was like 72 for the free throw line, but uh what you're looking at with this guy is a pure athlete, he's just got huge leaping ability, uh, change of direction, everything is just so quick.
- 21:12SPEAKER_05: He's got quick hands to get a lot of steals.
- 21:14SPEAKER_05: Uh, so he's gonna be a great addition to Texas Tech.
- 21:17SPEAKER_04: That's what we're looking for right now.
- 21:19SPEAKER_04: So, especially with the the exodus that we had.
- 21:21SPEAKER_04: So, really happy about that, man.
- 21:23SPEAKER_04: I like I keep saying, I think we be we keep seeing on this podcast is that basketball season is still gonna be an exciting time.
- 21:28SPEAKER_05: So yeah, and you wouldn't have expected that.
- 21:31SPEAKER_05: I I was going back and listening to a couple of our past pods, and it's just such a difference.
- 21:36SPEAKER_05: Uh, the Chris Beard episode when we were like, okay, he uh you know, he's not leaving, and then the next episode we were super depressed, and then the next episode when we hired Mark Adams, we were just over the moon, so we're just all over the place right now with all with Texas Tech basketball.
- 21:52SPEAKER_04: We are such tech fans.
- 21:54SPEAKER_05: Yeah, we are.
- 21:54SPEAKER_05: We're reactionary, we're reactionary, but all of you are too, so don't pretend.
- 22:00SPEAKER_05: Like you're not.
- 22:03SPEAKER_04: But I you know, I was actually uh I I saw this on the on Twitter the other day, the 1012 podcast, the Big 12 podcast, was saying that um that it looks like Texas Tech isn't gonna be taking a step back.
- 22:12SPEAKER_04: And I I just had to reply saying that this is the best bounce back you could have hoped for realistically.
- 22:19SPEAKER_04: Yeah, like it it's it seems like it seems like we're a bit of an exception on how well we bounced back.
- 22:26SPEAKER_04: Normally, whenever your best coach in like history leaves, you're in for maybe a dark time, especially whenever you're not old money like a Duke.
- 22:33SPEAKER_04: Um, but it really looks like we were really blessed to have Mr.
- 22:38SPEAKER_04: Texas Tech be in the back pocket, ready to go.
- 22:41SPEAKER_05: Yeah, absolutely.
- 22:42SPEAKER_05: I mean, we thought Chris Beard was this guy who was going to be loyal to the program this whole time.
- 22:46SPEAKER_05: A Texas Tech guy turns out that was really Mark Adams.
- 22:49SPEAKER_05: So, not a lot of schools can say that they can have something to lean on when things get hard, like we're dealing with right now.
- 22:56SPEAKER_05: So, Mark Adams has really been a blessing, man.
- 22:59SPEAKER_04: Absolutely.
- 23:00SPEAKER_04: And and he's that he definitely feels blessed to be there after that press conference.
- 23:04SPEAKER_04: This is a Mark Adams fan club podcast.
- 23:07SPEAKER_05: Yeah, we are pro-Mark Adams, absolutely.
- 23:09SPEAKER_05: We always have that.
- 23:10SPEAKER_05: I don't think there's a Texas Tech fan that's anti-Mark Adams right now.
- 23:13SPEAKER_04: No, I really don't.
- 23:14SPEAKER_04: You know, it's not like football where any any new hire is just like you know, right now.
- 23:19SPEAKER_04: But uh this one's all in, so we love that.
- 23:22SPEAKER_05: Yeah, for sure.
- 23:23SPEAKER_05: So, but let's that's it for Texas Tech News.
- 23:26SPEAKER_05: Unfortunately, not a lot going on this week.
- 23:28SPEAKER_05: I know we probably went on a little further than a little, you know, more than what we thought we would, but we are gonna do a couple little segments for y'all.
- 23:38SPEAKER_05: Um, me and Tristan both broke down our dream three realistic, and I say realistic uh because there's some unrealistic opponents right there, but our dream three non-conference football opponents for the future, um, you know, not Alabama, not Clemson, not Ohio State.
- 23:58SPEAKER_05: We're not gonna put any of those on there.
- 24:00SPEAKER_05: But what we do, we're gonna tie these some of the our personal three, maybe you know, something that we some team that we would like to see tech play in the future in non-conference play for football.
- 24:12SPEAKER_05: So, Tristan, why don't you give me your three realistic non-conference football opponents?
- 24:19SPEAKER_04: All right, man.
- 24:20SPEAKER_04: Since we're heading into this relaxed conversational segment, I'm gonna do a rambling raiders crack here and open a new beer.
- 24:26SPEAKER_04: Shout out Ramlin Raiders.
- 24:29SPEAKER_04: Um, so I'm gonna start out with a low ball one that we've literally never ever played.
- 24:35SPEAKER_04: It's a young program, and it's just gonna be hearkening back to us and our fellow Central Texas Red Raiders.
- 24:42SPEAKER_04: I'm gonna say I would like to see a G5 opponent in UTSA.
- 24:48SPEAKER_04: Even a home in home, like uh because I would love an excuse to go down to the river city and then go to the Alamo Dome.
- 24:54SPEAKER_04: Um, but it it I it's because I thought it'd be fun to throw in a G5 rather than just all these P5s.
- 25:00SPEAKER_04: So, yeah, I would like to see us play the Roadrunners because anytime we're playing a G5 program, I'm always disappointed when it's not a Texas school.
- 25:08SPEAKER_04: I love that we're playing Houston.
- 25:10SPEAKER_04: I would I I think we should play Houston at least a couple times a decade.
- 25:14SPEAKER_04: So I I I that's that's where I land first.
- 25:17SPEAKER_04: I would love to see us play the hometown team for the first time in our history.
- 25:22SPEAKER_04: Uh, obviously, it it would hopefully not be a close game, but I thought it'd be fun to kick it off with the G5 team in the Roadrunners.
- 25:29SPEAKER_05: What a nightmare that would be if the Roadrunners beat us.
- 25:31SPEAKER_05: Oh my god, I would not hear the end of it.
- 25:34SPEAKER_04: I would never enter that city ever again.
- 25:38SPEAKER_05: Oh, oh, that would be awful.
- 25:40SPEAKER_05: But yeah, I agree.
- 25:42SPEAKER_05: That would be fun to play UTSA.
- 25:44SPEAKER_05: I didn't put a G5 program, I did think about putting a team like SMU or something like that.
- 25:50SPEAKER_05: Something in-state, like you said, would be fun no matter what, you know, like uh and we're playing like North Texas and Adeline Christian, both of those are on the schedule in the coming years for football, so it's just fun to keep it in Texas.
- 26:04SPEAKER_05: Uh, you know, talk mess to uh your fellow Texans that possibly went to those universities.
- 26:11SPEAKER_05: So that's a good one, man.
- 26:12SPEAKER_04: I mean, not even not even just talking mess.
- 26:14SPEAKER_04: It's just if you're playing these lower profile teams, I don't want to be playing Florida International.
- 26:20SPEAKER_04: Like, like at least with UTSA, you get the recognition, you get you, you know where the school is, it's within Texas.
- 26:26SPEAKER_04: So you at least get that, you know.
- 26:28SPEAKER_04: And I think that's what's missing in college sports in general is the regionality of it.
- 26:32SPEAKER_04: So I feel like at least without a conference, I keep it within the area, is my mentality.
- 26:38SPEAKER_05: Okay, right on.
- 26:39SPEAKER_05: Well, uh, my first my first choice was um not UTSA, it wasn't a G5 team.
- 26:47SPEAKER_05: I actually, my three, I went with all Power Five teams uh to potentially play because I I just I really enjoy when our non-conference involves teams of caliber, teams that are like us and boost up the schedule, you know, uh boost up the strength of schedule, all that kind of stuff for the future.
- 27:06SPEAKER_05: I know we're not like competing for any college football playoff right now, but to have those teams to have the recognition at the beginning of college football season to see Texas Tech or whoever another Power Five team play at the beginning of the year on ESPN because it's a primetime game, because it's against two power five teams, it's just good stuff.
- 27:25SPEAKER_05: So for the first one, I chose Penn State.
- 27:28SPEAKER_05: And whoa, yeah, and so I really want to see this matchup because I want to see us play a formidable Big Ten opponent.
- 27:36SPEAKER_05: I want to see how the contrasting uh just styles of play go against each other because obviously, being Texas Tech, we are more famous for our passing game and for getting a ton of yards and scoring a lot of points.
- 27:51SPEAKER_05: Penn State kind of running ground and pound type of type of playstyle.
- 27:56SPEAKER_05: So seeing them um play us would just be fun.
- 28:00SPEAKER_05: I think it would be fun to see potentially an upset in that you know form.
- 28:06SPEAKER_05: See the Big Ten just gets a lot of love every year from experts, from ESPN, from all that sort of stuff.
- 28:13SPEAKER_05: So I would like to see us play one of those.
- 28:15SPEAKER_05: I also wrote down Penn State would be probably number one, but I also wrote down a team like Michigan State, Iowa, Wisconsin, just anybody basically that's a top dog in the Big Ten that's not Ohio State.
- 28:27SPEAKER_04: Dude, that's an excellent, excellent pick.
- 28:29SPEAKER_04: Here we are in quotation marks, the Big 12 South.
- 28:32SPEAKER_04: We don't even think about the Big Ten.
- 28:34SPEAKER_04: They don't think about us down here either.
- 28:36SPEAKER_04: Um, it's either it's either us first, it's mostly like whenever it comes to P5, we're we're gunning towards the SEC.
- 28:41SPEAKER_04: Makes a lot of sense.
- 28:42SPEAKER_04: Um, but that is that's a great pick.
- 28:44SPEAKER_04: I think that'll be a ton of fun, you know.
- 28:46SPEAKER_04: A high-energy team like Texas Tech versus a traditional uh style play of Penn State.
- 28:51SPEAKER_04: Great pick, and I'd love to uh to uh talk mess to my dad's side of the family with the Pennsylvania connection.
- 28:58SPEAKER_04: So for sure.
- 28:59SPEAKER_05: That that New England connection with your family.
- 29:02SPEAKER_05: So that's what's your number what's your number two?
- 29:06SPEAKER_04: All right, so my number two, dang it.
- 29:09SPEAKER_04: I I I love how you come out swinging with these big old P5 picks because I thought it was the next one I was gonna do.
- 29:15SPEAKER_04: I was gonna do the another level, I was gonna do FCS.
- 29:17SPEAKER_04: But wait, hold on, North Dakota State.
- 29:21SPEAKER_04: I think hosting North Dakota State would be a ton of fun because this is an FCS team team you can lose to.
- 29:28SPEAKER_04: So I and they're a great team.
- 29:32SPEAKER_04: And I just think if you're gonna if you're gonna schedule FCS teams like tech does, unfortunately, you better you better bring some A game, which we usually do.
- 29:38SPEAKER_04: Like we bring in South Houston states and stuff, but at least with the North Dakota State, talk about a fun game.
- 29:45SPEAKER_04: So I think that would just be really cool to bring the bison down, and you know that'd be televised, and I just think that'd be a blast.
- 29:52SPEAKER_05: North Dakota State does not get enough love, especially for the not only players they produce, but the the top picks that they produced.
- 30:01SPEAKER_05: I mean, Carson Wentz and Trey Lance are now two top three picks in the NFL draft that have come from North Dakota State, so that would be a good one, man.
- 30:10SPEAKER_05: I mean, I'm always down to play like West Virginia's playing like a Richmond and that kind of stuff.
- 30:15SPEAKER_05: The FCS teams that are like super talented, I would love to have that instead of playing maybe an Eastern Washington or hold on, Eastern Washington's not a bad FCS team, actually.
- 30:26SPEAKER_04: Okay, but and we've been playing these Sam Houstons as well, um, which is also they're they're they're phenomenal.
- 30:32SPEAKER_04: I think they're heading to the national championship right now.
- 30:34SPEAKER_04: Um, yeah, yeah.
- 30:36SPEAKER_04: But it's just I would love to play if we're gonna be skill, if we're gonna be scheduling FCS teams, I want to I want to I want to play a bison, you know.
- 30:42SPEAKER_04: If not, let's let's get rid of this, you know.
- 30:44SPEAKER_04: I'm I'm in all that, but and that's that was why I picked, I thought it would hit all levels, was all.
- 30:49SPEAKER_05: And that would actually get recognition, that would actually get love from people saying, okay, so they didn't schedule just any FCS team that they're gonna beat 70 to nothing.
- 30:57SPEAKER_05: They are playing a North Dakota State who could potentially beat them.
- 31:01SPEAKER_05: And I mean, unfortunately, we saw that way too hard with this season playing Houston Baptist, an FCS team that is not nearly as good as North Dakota State that we played way, way, way too tight.
- 31:13SPEAKER_04: Imagine if that was Sam Houston State or Eastern Washington in that game.
- 31:18SPEAKER_04: We would have got whooped.
- 31:20SPEAKER_04: That would have been beyond embarrassing.
- 31:22SPEAKER_04: Yeah, that'd have been bad news.
- 31:24SPEAKER_04: I thought I'd hit a G5 in an FCS team in this mixture.
- 31:27SPEAKER_04: What about you?
- 31:28SPEAKER_04: What do you got next?
- 31:29SPEAKER_04: And I I I just I know we're gonna say the same team eventually.
- 31:32SPEAKER_04: I'm just I'm saving it for last.
- 31:33SPEAKER_05: Okay, well, I might do it now.
- 31:35SPEAKER_05: You you do your other one then.
- 31:37SPEAKER_05: I well, I don't know if we're I don't know what we're gonna.
- 31:42SPEAKER_05: I I don't know.
- 31:43SPEAKER_05: Okay, okay.
- 31:44SPEAKER_05: I'll do something that I don't think you're gonna choose.
- 31:46SPEAKER_05: I'm gonna do Miami.
- 31:48SPEAKER_05: I'm gonna do the you.
- 31:50SPEAKER_05: The you.
- 31:51SPEAKER_05: I would love playing the you in non-conference because of their history, because of the brand that Miami is.
- 32:00SPEAKER_05: I would also love to go to Miami for a Texas Tech game.
- 32:04SPEAKER_05: I would love to.
- 32:05SPEAKER_05: I would think it would be a fantastic guys' trip going down to Miami, going and playing the hurricanes.
- 32:11SPEAKER_05: It would be awesome.
- 32:12SPEAKER_04: Okay, yeah, fun the trip, fun as heck.
- 32:15SPEAKER_04: The game, you're going to an NF NFL stadium.
- 32:18SPEAKER_04: That's not as cool, but but it would be fun.
- 32:21SPEAKER_04: You know it would be fun.
- 32:23SPEAKER_04: It would, it would, but then you look up at the uh second deck and see tarps.
- 32:26SPEAKER_04: You know, I'm just saying I think NFL stadiums are lame as heck to place you.
- 32:30SPEAKER_04: Maybe maybe I'm in on the trip.
- 32:32SPEAKER_05: Maybe maybe we're playing a neutral site game, but then that takes away the aspect of Miami.
- 32:36SPEAKER_05: I want to be in Miami.
- 32:38SPEAKER_05: I do want to be in Miami.
- 32:39SPEAKER_05: That's why I wrote it down.
- 32:40SPEAKER_05: I was like, Miami would be awesome to be in.
- 32:43SPEAKER_04: What a fun versus, you know, you have yeah, this this wild, beachy metro in Miami, and then you're going to uh old country town, love it, you know, like what a mixture.
- 32:55SPEAKER_04: That would be that'll be a great matchup.
- 32:57SPEAKER_05: Yeah, so that's what I wrote down for number two.
- 32:59SPEAKER_05: What is your third one?
- 33:01SPEAKER_04: All right, let's do this together then.
- 33:03SPEAKER_04: I know, I know you have this in your picks.
- 33:05SPEAKER_05: All right, I know you do.
- 33:08SPEAKER_05: I mean, besides in your honorable mentions, okay.
- 33:10SPEAKER_05: We'll do it, we'll do it on three.
- 33:12SPEAKER_05: One, two, three.
- 33:14SPEAKER_04: Texas AM.
- 33:16SPEAKER_05: Oh, damn it! Okay, so I I wrote LSU.
- 33:20SPEAKER_05: I I thought I thought it might be LSU, but you know it wasn't gonna pick LSU.
- 33:24SPEAKER_05: I know I thought you weren't, but I thought you were gonna you were saying stuff like that.
- 33:29SPEAKER_05: Are you saying Texas AM isn't in your picks?
- 33:32SPEAKER_05: This is my deal with playing Texas AM.
- 33:35SPEAKER_05: I'd love to play, I like the idea of playing Texas AM.
- 33:40SPEAKER_05: I like the idea of beating the Aggies and talking mess to 75% of the people we graduated high school with.
- 33:48SPEAKER_05: I love that idea.
- 33:49SPEAKER_05: What I don't love is the idea of Texas AM joining the SEC and then still being able to play Big 12 teams.
- 33:59SPEAKER_05: This I wrote them in an honorable mention.
- 34:01SPEAKER_05: I did because I would love to play the Aggies.
- 34:04SPEAKER_05: I don't want the Aggies to have their cake and eat it too.
- 34:08SPEAKER_05: I don't want that.
- 34:09SPEAKER_04: I am in the same exact boat as you are.
- 34:12SPEAKER_04: I almost didn't put them because you said realistic, but then where you started the segment, you said no Alabamas or Clemson's, and I do not want to put A and M in that same zone.
- 34:23SPEAKER_04: No, yeah, okay.
- 34:24SPEAKER_04: I feel yeah, I feel you, man.
- 34:25SPEAKER_04: Yeah, so but no, I absolutely agree with that.
- 34:28SPEAKER_04: And um, I I I I I agree with you.
- 34:32SPEAKER_04: I don't think they should be able to play their Texas rivals since they did what they did.
- 34:35SPEAKER_04: Um, but if this is just my dream scenario, I I just I do just want to see us play the Ags, and I do just want to beat the hell out of the Aggs, is all is is is all I want.
- 34:46SPEAKER_04: And and that's that's my mentality of it.
- 34:49SPEAKER_04: A home in home with them would be a blast.
- 34:51SPEAKER_04: I'd go to both games.
- 34:52SPEAKER_04: Um I know we all would go, and it would just be a ton of fun, and I would get my Aggie friends on it too, and it'll be a it'll be a blast, and because that's what I always tell my AM friends whenever I was in college, I was like, I hate that y'all are in this conference because you and I we we'd be switching off every year hanging out with each other and going to the games.
- 35:11SPEAKER_05: So it would be.
- 35:12SPEAKER_05: I I agree with you, and I've I went back and forth with this.
- 35:15SPEAKER_05: I thought about putting AM on there, but it's like I I they just don't get to have their cake and eat it, they don't get it.
- 35:23SPEAKER_05: That that's why I'm anti for them playing UT too.
- 35:26SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I would be really, really, really salty if they set up a series with UT and didn't play us.
- 35:33SPEAKER_04: Like I would I would think that's BS, you know.
- 35:35SPEAKER_05: It would be it would be messed up.
- 35:36SPEAKER_05: I know they're more of a rivalry than we are with AM, but it's still all a rivalry.
- 35:40SPEAKER_05: We're still the top three brands in college sports in Texas.
- 35:44SPEAKER_05: Yeah, and for them to do what they did, leave the conference and leave all their fun rivalries, but still be able to play with them in the non-conference.
- 35:53SPEAKER_05: No, they don't get that.
- 35:54SPEAKER_05: I don't know.
- 35:55SPEAKER_04: It needs to matter, it needs it needs to add up to something.
- 35:58SPEAKER_04: So I agree.
- 35:59SPEAKER_04: It's just in my selfish, weird little bubble world where it could happen, that's where it's happening, was what I was thinking.
- 36:06SPEAKER_05: I get you.
- 36:06SPEAKER_05: They won't play us anyway.
- 36:07SPEAKER_05: They're they're not gonna risk that uh risk that embarrassment of losing to Texas Tech that is really in the bottom of what their football program has been.
- 36:16SPEAKER_05: So, how funny would that freaking be if we I would play an AM in the worst time of tech football?
- 36:23SPEAKER_04: That would be the best day of my life, and that's like not that might not even be an exaggeration.
- 36:28SPEAKER_04: My graduation, like obviously, it's like right there and all that, getting accepted to Texas Tech way up there.
- 36:33SPEAKER_04: But oh my god, if the birth of my nephew, there we go.
- 36:38SPEAKER_04: There you go, so good man.
- 36:42SPEAKER_04: But um that that would be that would be an amazing day.
- 36:47SPEAKER_04: So, but that's that's that's just that's where I was landing on it.
- 36:50SPEAKER_04: And and we had a great rivalry with them.
- 36:53SPEAKER_04: I wish we could have lived it in college, but um, but I know I I am 100% on your side with the take.
- 36:58SPEAKER_05: Yeah, no, okay.
- 37:00SPEAKER_05: So my third one was LSU.
- 37:02SPEAKER_05: I would love to play LSU in the non-conference, uh, and it's a little selfish because I am here in Baton Rouge.
- 37:09SPEAKER_05: Uh, but I will say a game day down here in Baton Rouge is fun as hell.
- 37:16SPEAKER_05: And everybody, if Texas Tech ever played LSU down here in Death Valley, it would be an unbelievably fun experience for everybody that came down here.
- 37:29SPEAKER_05: I mean, they are it, it's a it's a good fan base down here.
- 37:32SPEAKER_05: They really are welcoming to outside fans, especially for like a Texas Tech.
- 37:37SPEAKER_05: I mean, I was here for when Tech played LSU in uh basketball this past season, and it was fun.
- 37:43SPEAKER_05: I mean, I know we won uh off of some crazy stuff from Mac McClung, but out at the bars afterwards, everybody was still so like nice and welcoming and everything like that.
- 37:54SPEAKER_05: I I just and they're vulnerable right now, they really are.
- 37:58SPEAKER_05: Um, you know, they're they're gonna go through some probably get hit with a couple NCAA violations here soon.
- 38:04SPEAKER_05: I know they've gone through some stuff recently, but uh just the venue alone would be incredible to see tech play at Tiger Stadium.
- 38:11SPEAKER_05: It's it it really is cool.
- 38:13SPEAKER_04: That's a great pick.
- 38:15SPEAKER_04: It it really is.
- 38:16SPEAKER_04: Um, but unfortunately, since LLC is an SEC team, they need to play two G5 teams in FCS team, maybe a P5 team.
- 38:23SPEAKER_04: Maybe so they gotta make sure they win at least six games a year, right?
- 38:27SPEAKER_05: So maybe a rutgers level, yeah.
- 38:31SPEAKER_04: No, I but I'm with you.
- 38:32SPEAKER_04: You know, I'm I'm I'm I'm dating a woman, Annie, uh, who is from an LLC family, and that would be a ton of fun.
- 38:39SPEAKER_04: And she she had fun at the bowl game and everything with that.
- 38:41SPEAKER_04: We played them in.
- 38:42SPEAKER_04: So um I I'm definitely in on that.
- 38:44SPEAKER_04: I would definitely go to Baton Rouge for that.
- 38:46SPEAKER_05: We'll get you down here for a game day because it really is fun.
- 38:49SPEAKER_05: Um, nothing like a Texas Tech game day, but it is it is fun down here in Baton Rouge.
- 38:55SPEAKER_05: Um, I did wrote down, I wrote down some wild cards.
- 38:58SPEAKER_05: My number four was Texas AM.
- 39:00SPEAKER_05: I didn't want to put them in my top three, but I wrote them down.
- 39:03SPEAKER_05: Uh, Nebraska, I wrote down because they're so bad, and it would just be fun just to beat them down after they left the Big 12.
- 39:10SPEAKER_05: Uh, and then Tennessee, I wrote down as well because Knoxville, I've only heard good things about you know, a game day in Knoxville, fun stuff.
- 39:19SPEAKER_04: So, you know, I guess our minds are on the bit of the same wavelength there because you know, you threw an honorable mention of SMU.
- 39:25SPEAKER_04: That was an honorable mention of mine.
- 39:27SPEAKER_04: I think that'd be fun since Sonny's there too.
- 39:29SPEAKER_04: Um, going to a game day there would be fun.
- 39:31SPEAKER_04: It's not very far, it's pretty central for everybody, and there's a lot of Red Raiders in Dallas.
- 39:35SPEAKER_04: Um, it's a beautiful campus.
- 39:36SPEAKER_04: SMU's gorgeous.
- 39:38SPEAKER_04: Um, and another one for me was I Nebraska.
- 39:41SPEAKER_04: I thought Nebraska would be a ton of fun.
- 39:43SPEAKER_04: You know, any of the big 12 teams that lost, I thought would be a lot of fun.
- 39:46SPEAKER_04: I would put like AM's in that zone, Colorado, Missouri, Colorado, Mizzou.
- 39:50SPEAKER_04: Yeah, so I think those would be fun because none of those teams are exceptional.
- 39:53SPEAKER_04: So it's it's that would be a ton of fun.
- 39:56SPEAKER_04: And another like kind of random one is like in the scenario where Matt Wells is the guy is Utah State for a G5 game.
- 40:05SPEAKER_05: I thought about Utah State, but I was like, I'm not gonna do it until Matt Wells shows us that he can put a winning season together in loving.
- 40:13SPEAKER_04: And another little bonus one, uh, a couple of other bonus ones.
- 40:17SPEAKER_04: I I I the G5 is so easy because there's so many of them around.
- 40:21SPEAKER_04: Is like I think New Mexico is a good one for Red Raiders because there's a ton of New Mexican Red Raiders, and um, as well as say uh Texas State, you know, it's just like it's going to state.
- 40:30SPEAKER_04: It's like going to a UT game, you know, you're you're going down to Central Texas an hour away from Austin, and uh that'd be fun as well.
- 40:36SPEAKER_05: Eat them up cats, man.
- 40:38SPEAKER_05: You know, oh man.
- 40:41SPEAKER_05: So that was our three dream non-conference opponents for football.
- 40:45SPEAKER_05: Uh, let's run through them.
- 40:46SPEAKER_05: I know that was that might have been a little confusing.
- 40:49SPEAKER_05: Mine were Penn State, Miami, and LSU.
- 40:53SPEAKER_04: Tristan, yours were North Dakota State for the FCS, UTSA selfish for the G5, and Texas AM for the P5.
- 41:02SPEAKER_05: Okay, so we may put out a poll on Twitter just seeing what y'all are thinking.
- 41:07SPEAKER_05: Maybe you know who you would want to play out of all those.
- 41:10SPEAKER_05: So uh we just thought that would be a fun segment to do on a uh kind of a low week in Texas Tech Sports.
- 41:17SPEAKER_05: But we're also, guess what?
- 41:19SPEAKER_05: If you've been listening to the pod for a while, we're gonna do another stupid QA.
- 41:23SPEAKER_05: We're only gonna do three questions each, but these are so dumb.
- 41:26SPEAKER_05: These are so stupid, they're so stupid, and but I think they're fun.
- 41:31SPEAKER_05: We got some feedback from the from the first one that we did.
- 41:34SPEAKER_05: It's just kind of reminiscent, it's it's giving us an opportunity to reminisce on college for the most part, but we're gonna do Tristan has three questions, I have three questions, and we're gonna you know just toss them back and forth and just you know talk a little about Texas Tech, about Lubbock, and all that stuff.
- 41:50SPEAKER_04: Who's gonna kick it off?
- 41:52SPEAKER_05: You kick it off.
- 41:53SPEAKER_04: What's your first question?
- 41:54SPEAKER_04: All right, what is your single favorite football memory?
- 41:58SPEAKER_05: Shoot.
- 41:59SPEAKER_04: I hate to say your top two or three.
- 42:02SPEAKER_05: I hate to say my top two are losses, unfortunately.
- 42:06SPEAKER_05: What?
- 42:07SPEAKER_05: Yeah, man.
- 42:07SPEAKER_05: My top two were the OU Texas Tech game, where we scored a million points and it was Patrick McCarthy and Baker Mayfield.
- 42:15SPEAKER_05: The the overall atmosphere in that game where it was just so much fun.
- 42:21SPEAKER_05: It really was.
- 42:22SPEAKER_05: I mean, teams scoring non-stop.
- 42:25SPEAKER_05: I mean, it was like 65 to 59 was the final score.
- 42:30SPEAKER_05: Something stupid.
- 42:31SPEAKER_05: It's a basketball score.
- 42:33SPEAKER_05: That one and the TCU game, seeing the the TCU game in 2015 was the loudest I've ever heard.
- 42:41SPEAKER_05: The Jones, maybe except for when you and me went to that West Virginia game in 2012 where we upset number five West Virginia.
- 42:50SPEAKER_05: Uh, we both weren't students at the time, so I'm not gonna put that.
- 42:54SPEAKER_05: But seeing both of those games live, instant classics, I mean, it just the loudest I've ever seen the Jones.
- 43:01SPEAKER_05: They both didn't work in Tech's favor, but it was the at the high points, they were the best I've ever seen, the Jones.
- 43:09SPEAKER_04: No, those two are definitely up there for me.
- 43:11SPEAKER_04: Whenever you said the OU first, you sound like you sound like ESPN because they bring up that game.
- 43:15SPEAKER_05: I know every other week when they're talking about our teams.
- 43:18SPEAKER_05: And it's even it takes it to a different level when you were there.
- 43:21SPEAKER_05: Like ESPN can say whatever they want on Twitter or whatever, but being there, being in the presence of two future NFL starters, one being the better of the two, obviously, Patrick Moons, but quite better, quite better.
- 43:35SPEAKER_05: But seeing those two teams just go back and forth was unbelievable.
- 43:39SPEAKER_04: Yeah, either really there probably will never be a college football game that was like that, you know, just this this crazy two quarterbacks, just an absolute duel, and unfortunately, one had a slightly better defense.
- 43:53SPEAKER_05: What one had a very better defense, our defense was absolute garbage.
- 43:58SPEAKER_05: We literally needed one.
- 44:00SPEAKER_05: One stop and we didn't get it.
- 44:02SPEAKER_04: So, but my my favorite memory of all time is probably the T I like I think I like the TCU game a little more because I just I really don't think I've ever seen the Jones more alive.
- 44:12SPEAKER_04: That was a truly crazy experience as a tech fan.
- 44:17SPEAKER_04: Um and we should have won it except for a freak catch.
- 44:21SPEAKER_04: But anyway, another big honorable mentions for me are definitely when we went to Arkansas and saw Patrick Mahomes win in Arkansas in uh uh what was it, Jakeem Grant throwing uh DeAndre Washington throwing into Jakeem Grant?
- 44:34SPEAKER_05: No, that's no, that was Jakeem.
- 44:36SPEAKER_05: Jakeem threw into uh Reggie Davis, I think was right.
- 44:40SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I think that was that was so fun.
- 44:43SPEAKER_04: That was it was, and uh obviously the OU game, and uh the the 2012 one was really good too.
- 44:49SPEAKER_04: I mean, that was the first time I ever saw tech win in Lubbock uh as a young lad at the age of what 13-14.
- 44:55SPEAKER_05: So yeah, god, we were in high school, man.
- 44:57SPEAKER_05: That was like sophomore, we were probably 15, but yeah, um, yeah, yeah.
- 45:01SPEAKER_05: No, uh, shout out to um uh the Iowa State Texas Tech game in 2017.
- 45:08SPEAKER_05: We got murdered, but I was on the field for that game.
- 45:12SPEAKER_05: It was really fun.
- 45:12SPEAKER_05: I was out there interning for uh KLBK in Lubbock, and uh I just got to be on the field during a tech game, and that's that's a really fun experience.
- 45:20SPEAKER_05: So shout out to that.
- 45:21SPEAKER_05: We did get murdered, so I uh you know, yikes.
- 45:25SPEAKER_05: Uh I think Nick Shimonek, quarterback.
- 45:28SPEAKER_05: Uh, I think we lost like 31 to 3 or something.
- 45:32SPEAKER_05: It was awful, an awful game, but a really cool experience.
- 45:36SPEAKER_04: For sure.
- 45:37SPEAKER_04: I thought that'd be a fun one because uh I think that's uh something that all of our listeners can connect to, is what their favorite football memory was.
- 45:43SPEAKER_04: So definitely let us know, y'all.
- 45:44SPEAKER_05: No doubt.
- 45:45SPEAKER_05: So I'm going with my first question.
- 45:47SPEAKER_05: Favorite and least favorite class you took at Texas Tech?
- 45:53SPEAKER_04: My favorite class was definitely freshman year, uh, was Texas history.
- 45:58SPEAKER_04: Um that professor took every shot he could at our rival school.
- 46:03SPEAKER_04: He was a die, he was a die hard red raider, and he would just poop on AM and UT any shot he could.
- 46:11SPEAKER_04: And I've never met a man that loves Texas more than that guy.
- 46:14SPEAKER_04: He showed up every day in a 10-gallon hat and his starch jeans and everything, and that was just a blast of a class.
- 46:21SPEAKER_04: I didn't look at my phone or anything, I was in it.
- 46:24SPEAKER_04: I was ready to go with that class.
- 46:26SPEAKER_04: What was your favorite class?
- 46:27SPEAKER_05: My favorite class, I had a lot of like I had a lot of good classes down the stretch because I was actually getting into my major and everything like that, but also freshman year, like intro to journalism was really I was a journalism major for all that you don't know me.
- 46:42SPEAKER_05: Um I it was really fun.
- 46:44SPEAKER_05: I had Cam Stone.
- 46:45SPEAKER_05: Camstone is like a guy that you know everybody knows that's in the Imcom building.
- 46:50SPEAKER_05: Um he was just a really good, a really good professor.
- 46:53SPEAKER_05: He really brought you in to what you know journalism is telling stories.
- 46:57SPEAKER_05: He's super enthusiastic type of guy.
- 47:00SPEAKER_05: Um, but intro to journalism was fun.
- 47:02SPEAKER_05: Also had Zach Smith in that class.
- 47:04SPEAKER_05: Shout out to uh Texas Tech basketball, Zach Smith.
- 47:07SPEAKER_05: Um, but yeah, that was probably my favorite class of of everything, especially at the beginning of my tenure at tech.
- 47:16SPEAKER_04: Rock on, rock on.
- 47:17SPEAKER_04: So for least favorite, huh?
- 47:19SPEAKER_05: Yeah, least favorite.
- 47:21SPEAKER_04: Oh for least favorite, goodness.
- 47:24SPEAKER_05: My least favorite involved you.
- 47:26SPEAKER_05: What?
- 47:27SPEAKER_05: Yeah, what class was it?
- 47:28SPEAKER_05: You go first, then my least favorite was geology.
- 47:32SPEAKER_05: Oh my god.
- 47:33SPEAKER_05: Intro to geology with Professor Carlson.
- 47:37SPEAKER_05: I remember his name.
- 47:38SPEAKER_04: That's right.
- 47:38SPEAKER_04: That's right.
- 47:39SPEAKER_05: My my man was the most monotone dude of all time.
- 47:44SPEAKER_05: And and listen, he's probably smart as heck, he's probably like really into rocks and volcanoes and all that kind of stuff.
- 47:52SPEAKER_05: I fell asleep in that class, I bet you 20% of the time.
- 47:56SPEAKER_05: I could not stay awake with Professor Carlson in geology.
- 48:01SPEAKER_04: Yeah, skipping that class for us wasn't that uncommon, was it?
- 48:05SPEAKER_05: Oh, no, it wasn't.
- 48:06SPEAKER_04: But we made it out alive of that one, yeah.
- 48:09SPEAKER_04: But yeah, no, I mean, it's it's you're talking about rocks, you know.
- 48:12SPEAKER_04: That was at Austin, my brother's recommendations.
- 48:16SPEAKER_05: Austin, bad recommendations.
- 48:19SPEAKER_04: Hey, we made it out, that's what mattered.
- 48:21SPEAKER_04: But for me, uh, I guess my least favorite class was the one the one class I ever failed was finance.
- 48:30SPEAKER_04: Um, yikes, I liked the professor a lot.
- 48:33SPEAKER_04: She was great, but finance was hell.
- 48:37SPEAKER_04: I hated finance.
- 48:38SPEAKER_04: I hated it more within accounting, and that says a lot because I, you know, I I somehow passed my accounting classes with C's, but I could not get past my finance class the first time.
- 48:50SPEAKER_04: It has to be finance.
- 48:52SPEAKER_05: C's get degrees, the official staple of tech of talking tech podcast.
- 48:58SPEAKER_04: That was a good one, man.
- 48:59SPEAKER_04: That that's a fun one.
- 49:01SPEAKER_04: All right, so with mine, I'm gonna bring it back to sports, you nerd.
- 49:04SPEAKER_04: I'm gonna do um favorite away football stadium.
- 49:08SPEAKER_04: You've been to it could be when tech was there or not, it's up to you.
- 49:12SPEAKER_05: Okay, so I worked the 2019-20 football season uh with Allstate.
- 49:18SPEAKER_05: I was doing a tailgate tour, so I went to a lot of different stadiums.
- 49:21SPEAKER_05: Um I uh for my favorite, I'm gonna say LSU.
- 49:25SPEAKER_05: And I know I mentioned it earlier.
- 49:27SPEAKER_05: Baton Rouge, it really is a fun time.
- 49:29SPEAKER_05: It's it's one of the funnest game days I've ever experienced, uh, just just all things considered.
- 49:35SPEAKER_05: Uh, and and it helped during that 1920 season that they won the national championship and had an unbelievable team.
- 49:41SPEAKER_05: But I will say, um, Washington is also up there.
- 49:46SPEAKER_05: Uh, University of Washington in Seattle, the Huskies, and um man, I mean, Clemson was cool.
- 49:53SPEAKER_05: Clemson was really cool because obviously they had Trevor Lawrence and they were playing AM, who I think was ranked in the top 10 at the time.
- 50:00SPEAKER_05: So uh they beat their ass, by the way.
- 50:02SPEAKER_05: Um, so I I a lot of cool stadiums.
- 50:06SPEAKER_05: Ben Rouge, LSU, Tiger Stadium.
- 50:08SPEAKER_05: That is my favorite.
- 50:10SPEAKER_04: All righty then.
- 50:11SPEAKER_04: Okay, you know, the best time I had away from tech was besides the Arkansas game.
- 50:18SPEAKER_04: Obviously, that's number that's number one.
- 50:21SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah.
- 50:22SPEAKER_04: But number one for me, it's gonna sound really weird, but it's it's Kentucky.
- 50:27SPEAKER_04: We had such a fun time in Kentucky.
- 50:30SPEAKER_04: So, whenever I lived, for those that don't know, I lived in Nashville for a while, and I had a great friend Logan, who uh was a uh big South Carolina fan grad.
- 50:38SPEAKER_04: And so we would always go to look, and they're all so close, all these games are so close.
- 50:41SPEAKER_04: So we'd always go to these South Carolina at blank games.
- 50:44SPEAKER_04: One of them was at Kentucky, and that was a great time, even though South Carolina lost, because here we are.
- 50:50SPEAKER_04: We these were these four dudes dressed up in South Carolina gear at this Kentucky game, and we had all of these fans talking so much mess to us.
- 50:59SPEAKER_04: And since I'm not like a fan fan, it was just hilarious to me.
- 51:03SPEAKER_04: It was so funny because my boys were just like talking right back to them.
- 51:08SPEAKER_04: It was so dang funny.
- 51:09SPEAKER_04: I thought we were about to get just punched, I thought we were about to get like straight up jumped with how much crap my friends were talking to all the fans as we were losing.
- 51:19SPEAKER_04: So it was it was so much fun, dude.
- 51:24SPEAKER_04: I that and that that was a fun, that was a fun trip.
- 51:26SPEAKER_04: So yeah, that Lexington, Kentucky was a great time.
- 51:29SPEAKER_05: Shouts out University of Kentucky, the Wildcats.
- 51:35SPEAKER_05: So we both we both chose schools that have generic ass mascots.
- 51:39SPEAKER_05: Indeed, indeed.
- 51:40SPEAKER_05: Yikes.
- 51:42SPEAKER_05: Well, what was it?
- 51:43SPEAKER_05: Uh is it your turn or my turn?
- 51:44SPEAKER_05: I'm sorry.
- 51:46SPEAKER_05: Okay, you just went.
- 51:47SPEAKER_05: So my turn, okay.
- 51:49SPEAKER_05: I think you'll like this one.
- 51:50SPEAKER_05: If you had to spend the entire day, I'm talking 10 a.m.
- 51:56SPEAKER_05: to 2 a.m.
- 51:58SPEAKER_05: at any bar in Lubbock, what would you choose?
- 52:04SPEAKER_04: 10 a.m.
- 52:06SPEAKER_04: till 2 p.m.
- 52:08SPEAKER_04: 2 a.m.
- 52:08SPEAKER_04: 2 a.m.
- 52:10SPEAKER_04: Wow, what a day, bro.
- 52:13SPEAKER_04: Okay, um, for me.
- 52:17SPEAKER_04: Wow, that's a good, really good question.
- 52:19SPEAKER_04: That's a real brain teaser there, brother.
- 52:21SPEAKER_04: You got for me here.
- 52:23SPEAKER_05: And I'm choosing and obviously I'm choosing only bars that are in Lubbock.
- 52:26SPEAKER_04: Yes, yes, yeah.
- 52:27SPEAKER_04: Okay, so this is gonna be a really basic B questi answer because, but I have a good reason for it.
- 52:32SPEAKER_04: I'm gonna say Chimmies because Chimmy's has the best outdoor drinking zone on Broadway.
- 52:41SPEAKER_04: So I I want to be able to day drink in the sun, have my cheese fries to hold down the belly, and have a good variety of good beer and not beer drinks.
- 52:51SPEAKER_04: You know what I mean?
- 52:52SPEAKER_04: So I I'm actually gonna go chimmies.
- 52:54SPEAKER_04: I know that's probably the most literally the most basic answer I could have given, but I'm gonna go chimmies.
- 52:58SPEAKER_05: See, I did some long and hard thinking about this question when because when it popped into my brain, I was like, okay, I can't just give a generic response, but also chimmy's was up there for me.
- 53:12SPEAKER_05: I just think that it would be overwhelming.
- 53:15SPEAKER_05: You're being there from 10 a.m.
- 53:17SPEAKER_05: to 2 a.m.
- 53:19SPEAKER_05: From chim, like chimmy's would be great from 10 a.m.
- 53:23SPEAKER_05: to about like 5 p.m.
- 53:26SPEAKER_04: It's the best day drinking place in Brown.
- 53:28SPEAKER_05: Absolutely, no doubt.
- 53:29SPEAKER_05: It's the best day drinking place of in all of Lubik.
- 53:33SPEAKER_05: But I chose crickets because crickets has a pool, it has games, it has TVs, it has places to sit, it has a bar with a bunch of different beers.
- 53:52SPEAKER_05: I just thought, and I wanted to get the outside presence, but of course you can you can go outside for a little bit just out in the streets.
- 54:00SPEAKER_05: But you can't you can't you can leave in the general vicinity of the bar.
- 54:06SPEAKER_05: So you could step outside for a same.
- 54:08SPEAKER_05: Okay, maybe okay, take that out then.
- 54:10SPEAKER_05: You're still you're not getting the outside thing that Chimmies provides, but you are getting games and stuff to take your mind off of whatever you're doing, taking your mind off of just sitting at a table, you know what I'm saying?
- 54:24SPEAKER_04: For sure, and it's better at crickets if it's trivia night as well, which is a two-dollar burger night.
- 54:28SPEAKER_05: So I'm exactly and well and food, food, food was the part of it.
- 54:33SPEAKER_05: I was thinking, like, okay, I gotta eat lunch and I gotta eat dinner there.
- 54:36SPEAKER_05: You know, chimis has solid food, crickets also has solid food.
- 54:40SPEAKER_04: So oh, crickets is better.
- 54:41SPEAKER_04: Chimmies has better snacking, but you're right, you're right, you're right.
- 54:44SPEAKER_04: Wow, that that was you really showed me up on that one.
- 54:47SPEAKER_04: I'm gonna say you won that one because uh crickets is a great choice for all freaking day.
- 54:52SPEAKER_04: I just want I just wanted the fresh air aspect, you know.
- 54:54SPEAKER_05: I feel you, I feel you, and I thought about choosing chimmies, but I was like, okay, crickets has and there's no smoking at chimmies, so yeah, that's true, that's true.
- 55:03SPEAKER_04: All right, so this is a very important question.
- 55:05SPEAKER_04: All right, you're at a you're at a football stadium.
- 55:08SPEAKER_04: Are you more pleased to see troughs or urinals in the bathroom?
- 55:14SPEAKER_04: I need to ask a bathroom question.
- 55:17SPEAKER_04: Signature.
- 55:18SPEAKER_05: If you didn't listen to the last QA, the last stupid QA that me and Tristan did, he asked two bathroom questions.
- 55:24SPEAKER_05: This is now the third bathroom question that I've been asked.
- 55:28SPEAKER_05: Uh trough, trough or urinal, um or into the ground, you know, like those ones that are like built into the ground.
- 55:35SPEAKER_04: You know what I'm saying?
- 55:36SPEAKER_04: Where have you been that it's been into the ground?
- 55:41SPEAKER_04: You haven't been to a bathroom where the the P area is like straight up the ground with a little bit of a barrier.
- 55:47SPEAKER_05: Where are you going to games at?
- 55:51SPEAKER_04: The dirt track in Lubbock.
- 55:52SPEAKER_04: You like oh, the dirt, the dirt track.
- 55:55SPEAKER_05: Oh my god.
- 55:56SPEAKER_05: The dirt tracking out there for a stadium if they have them.
- 56:00SPEAKER_05: It's not a stadium.
- 56:02SPEAKER_05: That is the worst place you could ever go.
- 56:04SPEAKER_05: It's the dirt track in Lubbock.
- 56:07SPEAKER_05: Um, no, uh back to your original question.
- 56:11SPEAKER_05: Uh, trough or urinal.
- 56:13SPEAKER_05: Um, listen, I understand the trough is a more listen.
- 56:21SPEAKER_05: The trough is a more uh friendly communal experience.
- 56:28SPEAKER_05: The urinal is my choice.
- 56:30SPEAKER_05: I don't uh you know when I'm peeing, I don't want to talk to the person next to me.
- 56:34SPEAKER_05: I'm sorry.
- 56:35SPEAKER_04: Uh it it there's no one stopping you talking to you in the urinal either.
- 56:41SPEAKER_04: Because like they can listen to the between the pee zones, you're just peeing.
- 56:47SPEAKER_05: I I want a little more privacy when I'm peeing.
- 56:52SPEAKER_05: I'm sorry.
- 56:52SPEAKER_05: It's like I I uh I'm I'm gonna pee either way because usually I'm drunk and I really don't give a shit.
- 57:00SPEAKER_05: But I'm I'm gonna go urinal out of trough versus urinal.
- 57:05SPEAKER_05: I'm gonna go urinal.
- 57:07SPEAKER_04: You know, as soon as soon as I see a trough, I'm gonna talk shit, but as soon as I get up to the trough, I'm gonna be like, it's the boys.
- 57:18SPEAKER_04: This is this is what we sign up for.
- 57:23SPEAKER_04: Because I'm not sober, no chance I'm sober, so it's not a big deal.
- 57:28SPEAKER_05: Yeah, well, either way, it's not a big deal.
- 57:30SPEAKER_05: I'm going wherever I can go at that point.
- 57:32SPEAKER_04: At least the trough gets a good laugh out of everybody.
- 57:34SPEAKER_05: So okay, I'm still choosing urinal.
- 57:37SPEAKER_05: Okay, all right.
- 57:39SPEAKER_05: That was your third, my third, to ender off the stupidest and most memorable moment in college for you.
- 57:51SPEAKER_04: Oh man, you should have asked me this before the pod started.
- 57:55SPEAKER_04: That's a really tough question.
- 57:58SPEAKER_04: You you have to hit me with yours first while I think about it.
- 58:00SPEAKER_05: All right, all right.
- 58:01SPEAKER_05: Mine, mine is a really funny moment we had at our house.
- 58:06SPEAKER_05: Um let me paint the scene for the talk and tech listeners.
- 58:12SPEAKER_05: Um, I'm in my bedroom, I'm hanging out, I'm just on my phone, and Tristan sends me a Snapchat.
- 58:20SPEAKER_05: Uh, and he and it's a video, and he goes, It's just captioned mouse in the house.
- 58:27SPEAKER_05: And uh he's he's currently taking a poop, and he just sends a video of the mouse running across his area right there.
- 58:44SPEAKER_05: And I'm just like, I I don't know what to do with this.
- 58:47SPEAKER_05: So uh our our next goal was to capture said mouse.
- 58:53SPEAKER_05: Uh, I can't do you remember the name of the mouse?
- 58:55SPEAKER_05: I don't remember the name.
- 58:57SPEAKER_05: We didn't name the mouse.
- 58:59SPEAKER_05: I thought we named the mouse.
- 59:00SPEAKER_05: It was something stupid.
- 59:01SPEAKER_05: I think it was like Kevin or something, I don't know.
- 59:04SPEAKER_05: But we named the mouse.
- 59:06SPEAKER_05: But uh next up, I'm like, okay, so I need to get a large bowl.
- 59:10SPEAKER_05: And I I got a large bowl, and I'm waiting outside of the door of while you're in the bathroom.
- 59:18SPEAKER_05: Uh, and then I'm just I'm talking to you through the door.
- 59:22SPEAKER_05: I'm like, okay, uh, open on three.
- 59:24SPEAKER_05: One, two, one, two, three.
- 59:27SPEAKER_05: And I don't know what I'm expecting.
- 59:29SPEAKER_05: I've never seen a mouse in my life.
- 59:31SPEAKER_05: So I'm like, I'm like, okay, uh, I it's just this little bitty thing, whatever.
- 59:38SPEAKER_05: I'm gonna just throw the bowl over it.
- 59:40SPEAKER_05: Turns out the mouse is a little bigger than what I thought.
- 59:44SPEAKER_05: So I freak out.
- 59:46SPEAKER_05: I'm like, oh my god, oh no, and so I back away, and the mouse goes running, and we never find it again.
- 59:54SPEAKER_04: And he never left the house.
- 59:56SPEAKER_04: Every once in a while, he would just poke out.
- 59:58SPEAKER_04: Every once in a while, I'll be like, There he is.
- 1:00:02SPEAKER_04: There he is.
- 1:00:03SPEAKER_04: Like, if there's not a lot of activity in the house, he'll come moving around.
- 1:00:07SPEAKER_05: But it's like there, huh?
- 1:00:09SPEAKER_05: That moment for me was always something I'm gonna remember because I can't believe I was so freaked out by a mouse.
- 1:00:17SPEAKER_05: But I was, I was I was terrified of this mouse that came running out as soon as you opened the door.
- 1:00:24SPEAKER_04: That was so funny because you and I flipped shit as soon as that mouse moved.
- 1:00:32SPEAKER_04: It's this harmless little creature, and we both like pooped our pants.
- 1:00:37SPEAKER_04: But that's a good one, man.
- 1:00:39SPEAKER_04: Whenever I I we have it's all my dumbest, funniest memories in college are definitely from us in the house.
- 1:00:45SPEAKER_04: Yeah, so my favorite memories in college are when we would throw our little parties, little I say little conversation marks, they got pretty intense, they blew up, yeah.
- 1:00:58SPEAKER_04: Um, but uh well, one of my funniest well, the funniest two I can think of were um this wherever anyone would vape in the house, you would be you would just scream across above the loud music and everybody talking.
- 1:01:14SPEAKER_04: You would just scream, who the F is vaping?
- 1:01:19SPEAKER_04: And just start roasting the kid that's vaping every time.
- 1:01:24SPEAKER_04: That was the funniest thing I'd ever seen.
- 1:01:27SPEAKER_05: It's not like it's not like I just really hate vaping.
- 1:01:32SPEAKER_05: I just didn't, I just didn't like it in the house.
- 1:01:36SPEAKER_05: So when somebody would vape and I was obviously under the influence of alcohol, uh I just got really upset.
- 1:01:46SPEAKER_05: And I just I said go the F outside, and I would I would scream, I would either turn off the music or I just would just scream at the person and make them feel bad about themselves or vaping inside the house with a ton of people, and you just have vape smoke going all over the place.
- 1:02:06SPEAKER_05: It's just not nice and it's not courteous.
- 1:02:08SPEAKER_04: My next thing is with with Steven is when this one chick would steal our toilet paper.
- 1:02:16SPEAKER_05: Oh, she was the worst.
- 1:02:18SPEAKER_05: These are the worst type of people that just steal whatever they can out of the house party.
- 1:02:23SPEAKER_05: And we literally just went to Walmart that day and got new toilet paper.
- 1:02:30SPEAKER_05: And this girl comes in.
- 1:02:32SPEAKER_05: This was early on in the party, like there wasn't even a ton of people there.
- 1:02:36SPEAKER_05: And we just see this girl who's obviously destroyed, and she just walks, she has like so the the toilet paper we would buy, it was like in packs, it was like in nine packs, about 24, you know what I'm saying, or 27.
- 1:02:51SPEAKER_05: So she would just come out with like a roll, like nine rolls of toilet paper, and it's going to zoom out the door, and uh we're and our front door was right where the living area was, and we're all sitting down, and I'm just like, is that our toilet paper?
- 1:03:09SPEAKER_05: And she's like, She's like, Yeah, y'all just have a ton of it, and I'm like, Yeah, it's because we just bought it, it's our toilet paper, you cannot have this, yeah.
- 1:03:21SPEAKER_05: And so that that pissed me off.
- 1:03:23SPEAKER_05: I was like, Why are you trying to steal our toilet paper?
- 1:03:27SPEAKER_04: Steven like never gets mad at anybody, so during these parties when you get pissed at these people, it's just so funny.
- 1:03:35SPEAKER_04: Those those are definitely my favorite, like stupid memories of us where during these house parties where they just the stupidest crap would happen.
- 1:03:43SPEAKER_05: Always remember it, always remember it.
- 1:03:45SPEAKER_05: But I thought I'd ask that one to end her off.
- 1:03:47SPEAKER_05: Uh, on the stupidest of QA's part two for Talking Tech Pod.
- 1:03:52SPEAKER_05: Again, you're listening to us, and we are ruining your brain cells.
- 1:03:56SPEAKER_05: And we, I mean, we're not gonna apologize because we warned you about this.
- 1:04:01SPEAKER_04: Absolutely.
- 1:04:02SPEAKER_04: I it there's no smart takes coming out of this pod, it's just gonna be nothing but stupidity.
- 1:04:08SPEAKER_04: So, but hopefully, we rehashed some fun memories with our conversation that y'all had.
- 1:04:13SPEAKER_04: So it's it's it's a great time.
- 1:04:15SPEAKER_05: No doubt.
- 1:04:16SPEAKER_05: Before we get into song of the week, I have some shouts out for the end of the pod.
- 1:04:23SPEAKER_05: This past weekend was Mother's Day.
- 1:04:25SPEAKER_05: Um, both me and Tristan have great moms.
- 1:04:28SPEAKER_05: Uh, wanted to shout out both of them.
- 1:04:30SPEAKER_05: Uh, my mother has been one of the best things that uh you know could happen in my life.
- 1:04:36SPEAKER_05: She is the rock of our family.
- 1:04:38SPEAKER_05: She is uh, you know, she has shaped me as a man.
- 1:04:41SPEAKER_05: So uh wanted to give a shout out on Mother's Day, well, post Mother's Day, but you know, when we're recording to my mom, she is the best, one of the best things that has ever happened to me.
- 1:04:52SPEAKER_04: You know.
- 1:04:54SPEAKER_05: So sappy shout out first, get it out of the way.
- 1:04:58SPEAKER_05: Uh, Mother's Day, you know, shout out, love you, mom.
- 1:05:01SPEAKER_05: Uh, shout out to the Hall of Fame this weekend.
- 1:05:04SPEAKER_05: Both or all three, Tim Duncan, Kobe Bryant, and Kevin Garnett are all being inducted into the Hall of Fame.
- 1:05:11SPEAKER_05: Tim Duncan is obviously my favorite.
- 1:05:14SPEAKER_05: If you haven't listened to the pod before, I'm a huge Spurs fan.
- 1:05:17SPEAKER_05: Uh, Tim Duncan is the greatest athlete that has ever entered my life.
- 1:05:21SPEAKER_05: Patrick Mahomes.
- 1:05:22SPEAKER_05: I love Patrick Mahomes, but Tim Duncan has been in there since day one.
- 1:05:26SPEAKER_05: Literally drafted uh before, or right when I was like two years old.
- 1:05:31SPEAKER_05: So uh growing up in San Antonio, the Spurs are the only thing we have, and Tim Duncan is the greatest thing that has ever happened to me as a sports fan.
- 1:05:39SPEAKER_05: So uh shout out to him going into the Hall of Fame this weekend, uh, also to the late great Kobe Bryant for going in this weekend and Kevin Garnett as well.
- 1:05:49SPEAKER_05: So wanted to shout out that.
- 1:05:51SPEAKER_05: And then my third shout out, I'm gonna go to our well, I'm not gonna call it a sister pod, but also on the Guns Up Nation.
- 1:06:00SPEAKER_05: Podcast Network, Tortillas and Takes.
- 1:06:02SPEAKER_05: They came out with their first two episodes recently.
- 1:06:05SPEAKER_05: Um, Albi, Dylan, and Jeremy, all those dudes do a great job.
- 1:06:10SPEAKER_05: If you haven't listened to it, it's the former Air Raid podcast.
- 1:06:13SPEAKER_05: They put on a great, great podcast.
- 1:06:16SPEAKER_05: They really are smart, they have great personalities.
- 1:06:19SPEAKER_05: It's just an awesome overall podcast.
- 1:06:20SPEAKER_05: So I want to give a shout-out to them.
- 1:06:22SPEAKER_04: Absolutely.
- 1:06:23SPEAKER_04: And they've been so supportive of us, and they just have an awesome team around them.
- 1:06:26SPEAKER_04: They have great graphics on their social media accounts.
- 1:06:28SPEAKER_04: And yeah, they're definitely the end, they're definitely something to reach for on this pod.
- 1:06:32SPEAKER_04: So congrats to them for finally getting back on that horse because it's great stuff.
- 1:06:36SPEAKER_05: Yeah, no doubt.
- 1:06:37SPEAKER_05: Give them a listen when you can.
- 1:06:39SPEAKER_05: And my final shout out is for graduation.
- 1:06:42SPEAKER_05: It's a big time of the year where people are graduating.
- 1:06:46SPEAKER_05: Uh, Texas Tech students that are graduating, congratulations to you.
- 1:06:50SPEAKER_05: Uh, you know, it's a big accomplishment.
- 1:06:52SPEAKER_05: You know, you'll always love Texas Tech, you'll always love Lubbock.
- 1:06:55SPEAKER_05: You'll start to miss it sooner than what you think, uh, coming from two alumni standpoints.
- 1:07:01SPEAKER_05: Um, and then also, you know, I had to do a shout out to my beautiful girlfriend Kristen.
- 1:07:06SPEAKER_05: She is graduating law school.
- 1:07:09SPEAKER_05: Uh, it's an unbelievable accomplishment for her, uh, for all of her friends that are that have gone through this process that has been such a pain in the ass for everybody.
- 1:07:20SPEAKER_05: Anyone that is in her law school uh will tell you it is a pain in the butt.
- 1:07:24SPEAKER_05: But shout out to her.
- 1:07:26SPEAKER_05: She has really uh exceeded expectations and and done everything she needs to do and has a great job lined up.
- 1:07:32SPEAKER_05: So shout out to Kristen.
- 1:07:34SPEAKER_04: Absolutely, man.
- 1:07:35SPEAKER_04: Caps off to our Red Raiders graduating, go make us proud.
- 1:07:38SPEAKER_04: You know, we have a great university, so we just make sure we return the favor there.
- 1:07:42SPEAKER_04: And and well, obviously with Kristen, congrats on law school.
- 1:07:45SPEAKER_05: Yeah, so we gotta love it.
- 1:07:48SPEAKER_05: So let's end it off here on episode 40, song of the week.
- 1:07:52SPEAKER_05: Go ahead, Tristan.
- 1:07:53SPEAKER_04: All right, man.
- 1:07:53SPEAKER_04: For my song of the week, I'm going to go with probably what's regarded as one of the greatest country songs of all time, but with a bit of a twist.
- 1:08:01SPEAKER_04: I'm gonna go with Wagon Wheel with Old Crow Medicine Show, live at the Ryman.
- 1:08:07SPEAKER_04: So it's just a different way than you've heard it before.
- 1:08:10SPEAKER_04: Way more energy.
- 1:08:11SPEAKER_04: It's not so slow, not so uh uh twangy and all that.
- 1:08:15SPEAKER_04: It's just a great time.
- 1:08:16SPEAKER_04: Um, and you can't help but sing along and just blast that music.
- 1:08:19SPEAKER_04: So I thought I'd go with an all-timer there.
- 1:08:22SPEAKER_06: So rap, be mama, back the web on the wheels, rap, bill, mama, anyway you feel mama.
- 1:08:34SPEAKER_05: My hot take is that the Darius Rucker version is better, and I'm sorry, I listen, I know everybody that is like a pure country fan is gonna choose the old Crow Medicine show.
- 1:08:48SPEAKER_05: I just think it's too twangy for me, and I think Darius Rucker perfects it.
- 1:08:53SPEAKER_05: And it's a great song.
- 1:08:55SPEAKER_05: Shout out to Old Crow Medicine Show for writing and originally singing the song.
- 1:09:01SPEAKER_05: But uh, I just I just like the Darius Rucker version better, man.
- 1:09:05SPEAKER_04: The Darius version's awesome as well.
- 1:09:07SPEAKER_04: It's a much more palatable version, too.
- 1:09:09SPEAKER_04: But I think once you hear the rhyme and version, maybe you'll be like, okay, this slaps.
- 1:09:13SPEAKER_05: That's a that's a hot take that I see from like country music fans that are like the Darius Rucker version is so bad.
- 1:09:20SPEAKER_05: It's like, no, it's like the Darius Rucker version is really good.
- 1:09:23SPEAKER_06: It's really good.
- 1:09:24SPEAKER_05: Listen, I can understand that you like pure sounding, whatever, super twangy country music, and that's fine.
- 1:09:31SPEAKER_05: I'm not like crapping on you for your opinion, but also saying the Darius Rucker version is really bad is also false.
- 1:09:38SPEAKER_04: It's a bad take.
- 1:09:39SPEAKER_04: I think I think the Darius version is very good, and he he bring it's a very respectful approach, too.
- 1:09:44SPEAKER_04: He doesn't pop it up at all or anything.
- 1:09:46SPEAKER_04: It's just he's just got an easier voice and he's just got a smoother delivery, and I think that's great.
- 1:09:52SPEAKER_05: Yeah, absolutely.
- 1:09:53SPEAKER_05: So uh a theme with my song of the week.
- 1:09:56SPEAKER_05: I just shattered out the graduation.
- 1:09:58SPEAKER_05: This is from uh Kanye West, his album Graduation.
- 1:10:03SPEAKER_05: Uh, this is my favorite song off of that album, Everything I Am by Kanye West.
- 1:10:09SPEAKER_05: Super chill beat to it.
- 1:10:11SPEAKER_05: Uh, just classic Kanye.
- 1:10:13SPEAKER_05: I think this album dropped in like 2010, something like that.
- 1:10:17SPEAKER_05: But it hits every Kanye stereotype.
- 1:10:20SPEAKER_05: He mentions fashion, he drops names, you know, Beyonce, Common, Queen Latifah, Will I Am.
- 1:10:28SPEAKER_05: He drops all of them in just this song.
- 1:10:30SPEAKER_05: He mentioned Chicago, all behind a super chill beat.
- 1:10:35SPEAKER_05: I love this song.
- 1:10:36SPEAKER_05: This is what originally got me into Kanye West, and uh, that's my song of the week.
- 1:10:40SPEAKER_05: Everything I am, Kanye West.
- 1:10:45SPEAKER_00: Here we go again.
- 1:10:46SPEAKER_00: Hey, by saying what's net for him, but everything I'm at made me everything I am.
- 1:10:56SPEAKER_04: Solid pick, man.
- 1:10:57SPEAKER_04: That's your second sort of Kanye pick of the song of the weeks, you know.
- 1:11:01SPEAKER_05: Yeah, he he was featured in the uh Kid Cuddy one that I chose.
- 1:11:06SPEAKER_05: Uh, but this is Kanye's song, not Kid Cuddy's song.
- 1:11:09SPEAKER_04: Absolutely counts.
- 1:11:11SPEAKER_05: So it does not count.
- 1:11:12SPEAKER_04: No, and I mean like counts as a not counting.
- 1:11:15SPEAKER_05: I get you.
- 1:11:16SPEAKER_05: Counts as a not counting.
- 1:11:18SPEAKER_05: Yes, absolutely.
- 1:11:19SPEAKER_05: 100% agree with you, my man.
- 1:11:22SPEAKER_05: But all right, we're gonna end it off.
- 1:11:24SPEAKER_05: I know this was a stupid episode, this was a filler episode.
- 1:11:28SPEAKER_05: Uh, just you know, uh, we had some tech news at the top, but also me and Tristan just like to shoot the shit every once in a while.
- 1:11:36SPEAKER_05: So uh I hope you enjoyed it.
- 1:11:38SPEAKER_05: I hope you enjoyed our stupidity.
- 1:11:40SPEAKER_05: Uh and you know, you can get more of that on Twitter.
- 1:11:43SPEAKER_05: Tristan is at Tristy Mick.

- 1:12:27SPEAKER_03: Uh wow, first of all, uh got a lot of respect for Steven and Tristan.

- 1:12:38SPEAKER_00: I love the game of basketball, but I also love West Texas, and I love Stephen and Tristan.
- 1:12:43SPEAKER_00: So I'm extremely proud.
- 1:12:44SPEAKER_00: Well, I don't know where we go from here.
- 1:12:46SPEAKER_00: I'm I'm thinking I'm just gonna sit back down.
- 1:12:48SPEAKER_00: It's just not getting better than this.
- 1:12:50SPEAKER_01: I just want to tell Steven and Tristan thanks for coming out.
- 1:12:54SPEAKER_02: The energy uh was really, really good in there today.
- 1:12:56SPEAKER_02: Uh, we fed off of it.
- 1:12:58SPEAKER_02: I think it goes back and forth.
- 1:13:00SPEAKER_02: Tremendous.
- 1:13:01SPEAKER_02: Uh great job.
- 1:13:02SPEAKER_02: And um, you know, just just proud of our guys for the way they responded.
