Transcript
- 0:00Hi everyone, welcome to Mini Scroll, the daily Internet
- 0:04culture podcast bringing you the biggest stories from social
- 0:07media, the creator economy and the digital space.
- 0:10Every Monday through Thursday and sometimes Fridays.
- 0:14I'm your host, Lauren Meisner, the founder of the youth digital
- 0:17media brand Centennial World. Welcome back everyone to Mini
- 0:22Scroll, the last Mini Scroll of 2025.
- 0:26We made it. I honestly just wanted to say
- 0:29before I start, thank you so much to everyone who tuned into
- 0:33Mini Scroll this year because Mini launched in 2024.
- 0:36It was really like a trial and error year.
- 0:38Where is this year? I feel like we really perfected
- 0:41the format and we figured out exactly how we go about it from
- 0:44our workflow internally to also just like what I want to be
- 0:48presenting to you guys everyday and how I want that to go down.
- 0:51And I'm just so proud of the work that we have done this year
- 0:54and I'm so happy with the audience that we have developed.
- 0:58You guys are so loyal. You guys are so sweet, you guys
- 1:02TuneIn every single day. We love interacting with you
- 1:04guys and chatting with you guys. And I'm just really excited for
- 1:072026. I'm sure it's going to be an
- 1:09amazing year. So actually I did want to let
- 1:12you guys know what our plan for 2026 is in terms of the
- 1:16scheduling, because this year, you know, we had a mid year
- 1:19break and then we obviously have our big end of year break and
- 1:23both of those breaks were quite chunky and I think that's OK.
- 1:27However, for my own mental health and the longevity of the
- 1:31podcast and the business, what we're going to do moving forward
- 1:35is instead of taking chunkier breaks twice a year, we're
- 1:38actually going to take a single week every quarter instead.
- 1:42And then Christmas, I'm not sure what next year's like Christmas
- 1:45will look like, probably like 2 weeks, but it won't be, you
- 1:47know, three to four weeks like we were doing twice a year.
- 1:51So we are going to be taking shorter breaks, but more
- 1:53frequent breaks next year for, yeah, just like sustainability
- 1:57to help us, the daily podcast schedule.
- 2:00And yeah, just kind of keep it going as opposed to having these
- 2:04longer pauses. But if you guys do want a couple
- 2:07mini scrolls over the break, please sign up to our Patreon
- 2:09because I will be doing some there.
- 2:11And please rate, review and subscribe, please Spotify star
- 2:14rate US, please. It's the last time I can ask you
- 2:17guys to Spotify star rate US this year.
- 2:20OK, let's get into the stories for today.
- 2:23The first story that I have for you guys is a creator is suing
- 2:27celebrity facialist Sonia Dakar after allegedly burning her
- 2:32face. So a creator named Victoria
- 2:34Nelson is suing the Beverly Hills based celebrity facialist
- 2:38Sonia Dakar after she went totally viral back in August for
- 2:42sharing her story about how Sonia allegedly burned her face.
- 2:45So Victoria posted a TikTok video in August with the title
- 2:48My Story about How Sonia Dakar Permanently Damaged my Face in
- 2:52which she claims that a chemical peel that Sonia did on her face
- 2:56in 2021 left her quote disfigured.
- 2:59For anyone who doesn't know who Sonia is, her celebrity clients
- 3:02allegedly included Gwyneth Paltrow, Leonardo DiCaprio,
- 3:05Priyanka Chopra and Jennifer Lawrence and more.
- 3:09So I don't actually think we covered this in August, but like
- 3:12everyone else did, so maybe that's why I didn't cover it.
- 3:15I can't remember. I remember it coming across my
- 3:18desk. I remember seeing the videos.
- 3:19I remember considering covering it in mini, but I don't think I
- 3:23did. So anyways, Victoria had been a
- 3:25client of Sonia's Sense 20/19. She said she went to her for
- 3:29acne treatment and just kept going to her.
- 3:31She really helped with her acne and she said they eventually
- 3:34became so close she felt like they were family.
- 3:36So at this appointment where she says that the burning occurred,
- 3:40she says she was getting a microdermabrasion treatment when
- 3:43Sonia allegedly applied the substance, which immediately
- 3:46felt different to her than a usual chemical peel.
- 3:49If you aren't familiar, usually chemical peels are done during
- 3:53the same facial as a microdermabrasion.
- 3:56At least all the microdermabrasion treatments
- 3:58I've had done, I've also had a chemical peel like at the same
- 4:00time, she said it felt really different.
- 4:02It was burning. And, like, chemical peels do
- 4:04burn, But if you've had them before, you kind of know the
- 4:06difference between, OK, this is burning for, like, you know what
- 4:09it's supposed to feel like versus this is burning.
- 4:12And it's like, a problem. And she said her eyes were
- 4:14watering after this chemical peel situation.
- 4:17She said her face was burned. It was damaged.
- 4:21And she said that Sonia assured her that it would be fine, that
- 4:24she could resolve the burns in a month of treatments.
- 4:27However, she did 18 sessions in 2021 and 12 in 2022.
- 4:31And she says her burns had not gone away.
- 4:34She estimated at that point she'd spent $30,000 on
- 4:37treatments from Sonya and admitted that she still had no
- 4:40idea what was in the chemical peel or like, what was in, I
- 4:44guess, maybe not even a chemical peel, whatever was in the
- 4:47substance that she used. Victoria then had to seek out a
- 4:50dermatologist to help her, which she says cost another $8000.
- 4:53And then when she told Sonya that she was going to the
- 4:56dermatologist, she like, I can keep treating you whatever.
- 4:59So she convinced her to book another $10,000 of treatments
- 5:02with her. So basically, she claims over
- 5:04the years that she spent around $60,000 with Sonia total.
- 5:08And then after Victoria shared her story on TikTok in August,
- 5:11like I said, it went so viral. It was covered across mainstream
- 5:14media, news channels, podcasts, and she got tons of advice from
- 5:18people. Everybody was like, please sue
- 5:21her. So now she's back with a new
- 5:23video saying that she's listened to everyone's advice.
- 5:25And she has filed an official complaint against Sonia with the
- 5:28California Board of Barbering and Cosmetology.
- 5:31And she's also filed a civil lawsuit against her.
- 5:34She is seeking up to $35,000 in damages.
- 5:37And apparently this is actually not the first complaint that has
- 5:41been filed to this board for Sonia.
- 5:43So this is from the Cut quote. This allegedly isn't the first
- 5:46time the California Board of Barbering and Cosmetology has
- 5:49dealt with issues relating to the facialist.
- 5:51According to Nelson's complaint, the board revoked the car's
- 5:54license in 2009 after she assaulted a board inspector by
- 5:59trying to bite her and pull her hair during an inspection,
- 6:02leading to her getting placed on probation for three years.
- 6:06Wild. OK, the next story that I have
- 6:08you guys is I need to cover what happened at the streamer Awards.
- 6:12Streamers were behaving badly is like the headline that everybody
- 6:15is talking about and it happened this weekend.
- 6:18I can't believe it only just came across my desk now.
- 6:21I'm not sure how I missed it. But anyways, there's been tons
- 6:23of backlash around these awards. So for anyone who doesn't know,
- 6:27streamer QT Cinderella is the founder of the Streamer Awards.
- 6:30She started them in 2021. They're held in LA every single
- 6:33year and it's basically like an award show for streamers.
- 6:37So there are two main points of criticism from this year's award
- 6:40show. 1st that the show was poorly produced, and 2nd, that
- 6:45the show heavily mocked black creators slash streamers.
- 6:48So from the production standpoint, to start off,
- 6:50viewers felt like it was a series of disjointed clips that
- 6:54they were watching. It was very chaotic, like the
- 6:56editing was chaotic, There was stage crashing from various
- 6:59streamers, and in general, it felt really awkward and cringe.
- 7:03It didn't flow easily. Some viewers even called it the
- 7:05messiest show yet for the Streamer Awards because it felt
- 7:09so unprofessional. If you didn't know what huh?
- 7:16Keep talking. OK.
- 7:17That was really helpful. Thank you so much.
- 7:20I'm sure Wendy's really happy you did that.
- 7:23OK, Anyway, I know that people are going to take moments from
- 7:29tonight and clip them out of context and make it look like
- 7:32there's drama and that that always happens, but I would
- 7:34never set you guys up for something like that.
- 7:37So anyway, Ludwig, could you name three people here you
- 7:39wouldn't go to their funeral? Hassan You know what?
- 7:46Actually, never mind. I think we're good.
- 7:50We're good off that. Now on accusations that the show
- 7:52was racist and anti black, there are two main quote UN quote
- 7:56jokes of the night that have kind of amplified this
- 8:00criticism. So at one point in the night, QT
- 8:03Cinderella, who was hosting alongside Fan Fan, asked 17 year
- 8:07old streamer Rakai Quote. What's the coolest thing you've
- 8:10ever stolen, Eddie? Rakai question.
- 8:15Yo, what's the coolest thing you've ever stolen?
- 8:22Don't answer. It's a test.
- 8:23It's a test. Rakai.
- 8:24Have you learned nothing? Don't answer it.
- 8:26Don't answer it. Now, Rakai did get banned from
- 8:29Twitch for two years for stealing flowers from Walmart
- 8:31like quite recently. But regardless of this back
- 8:34story, a lot of people felt like this was unnecessary to bring
- 8:37up. First of all, it was a night
- 8:39that's supposed to celebrate streamers, you know, that's like
- 8:42a low blow. And second of all, it felt
- 8:45racially motivated regardless. And the second major quote UN
- 8:48quote joke that felt targeted was by the Co host fan fan who
- 8:53compared Kaisenat to Diddy. We've got another record breaker
- 8:58here tonight too, Kaisenat. This year, as everyone knows,
- 9:06you broke the record for the most expensive haircut and the
- 9:10least educational university. So congratulations to you.
- 9:15Oh and also Congrats on your new documentary with a $0.50 that
- 9:21was that was you right? I mean this is fucked up for so
- 9:27many reasons and in general I've seen a lot of discourse that
- 9:31these awards are the result of how the streaming industry
- 9:35operates now. So streamer Shonda Black on X
- 9:39wrote my hottest take on the streamer awards is all the drama
- 9:42and clip farming is a direct consequence of promoting and
- 9:46rewarding that kind of behavior throughout the entire year.
- 9:50Reap what you sow type of shit. So QT Cinderella has addressed
- 9:54some of the criticisms. She said on stream on Monday
- 9:57that she's looked into the criticisms.
- 9:59She says that they're valid and she promises to change things
- 10:02for next year. She also says that her comment
- 10:06or her question I suppose to Rakai was not racially
- 10:09motivated. Next year, I promise I have so
- 10:11many ideas. It's going to be incredible.
- 10:13It's going to be incredible. The only thing I will address is
- 10:16the same thing that I addressed on Fear and the Rakai joke.
- 10:19It was not racially motivated. He was banned for stealing.
- 10:23That's it. That is all.
- 10:24I think I had such a big epiphany this year where I was
- 10:27like, Oh my gosh, this show, it's just so much bigger than it
- 10:30used to be. And I have to adjust for that
- 10:33because like, everyone in the room knew that.
- 10:35Everyone in the room knew that he was banned for stealing, but
- 10:38it's more than everyone in the room.
- 10:40And so, duh, we're fixing it. OK.
- 10:42All right. And the last story that I have
- 10:44for you guys is I'm going to break down the TikTok solid Core
- 10:47scandal going on right now. So a creator named Anthony Festa
- 10:51is feuding with the workout studio Solid Core after he
- 10:54documented himself attending a 6:00 AM class on a Sunday
- 10:57morning where the instructor didn't show up until halfway
- 11:00through the class. So Anthony took this class on
- 11:03Thanksgiving weekend, American Thanksgiving, and he was the
- 11:07only one who had booked the class.
- 11:09He vlogged himself, basically giving himself his own private
- 11:12class until the instructor showed up halfway through.
- 11:16I also need to point out here that he vlogged it apparently
- 11:19through his meta glasses, which is just so freaky.
- 11:23I don't know, it just never. I've never really looked into
- 11:25them. This is not giving mini tech.
- 11:27I've really never looked into the meta glasses and the fact
- 11:29that you can vlog through them is crazy.
- 11:32This video got some traction but it's coming kind of into the
- 11:36zeitgeist now because of a follow up video that he posted a
- 11:41couple of days ago. In this new video, he claims
- 11:44that the studio and instructors were trying to pressure him to
- 11:47take down his original vlog because it looks bad on them and
- 11:51it will threaten the standing of their studio with like Global
- 11:55and it also threatens his own membership.
- 11:57Once I left the class, the teacher started blowing up my
- 12:00TikTok, my Instagram, my phone being like, oh, Callie, one of
- 12:05the other teachers at the studio said you could keep the last 30
- 12:09seconds of the video, but you need to edit out all the rest.
- 12:12Like can you please delete the video?
- 12:14Can you please take it down, etcetera, etcetera, etcetera.
- 12:17I get a phone call from my best friend who also goes to solid
- 12:22core who joined because of me and he's friends with this other
- 12:25coach Callie. He calls me.
- 12:27He's like, you need to take down this video.
- 12:29Callie just called me freaking out.
- 12:31She's saying she's going to lose her job, Jayden's going to lose
- 12:33her job, Wynn's going to get in trouble, the studio's going to
- 12:37be flagged. It's going to affect us.
- 12:40You're going to lose your membership.
- 12:41It's going to be a whole thing. You need to take this video
- 12:44down. So I said to him, I said, you
- 12:46know what? Since when are you solid course
- 12:48PR? Like I didn't realize you were
- 12:50on solid course payroll. If there's an issue, Wynn can
- 12:54call me and let me know. So 10 minutes later, Wynn calls
- 12:58me. I don't pick up either of her
- 13:00calls. And you know, sometimes somebody
- 13:03leaves you like a ghost voicemail when is like the
- 13:06regional like manager or whatever, her husband's in the
- 13:10background and one of these voicemails being like, tell him
- 13:13to call you back. I'm like, oh, she wants you to
- 13:16take the video down too. The next day I go to class,
- 13:19Cali's teaching after class, I go up to Cali because this
- 13:22caused a big rift in my friendship.
- 13:24Like I'm very upset with my friend.
- 13:26Like this whole thing. I go up here I go.
- 13:28You know what, Cali, it's really not appropriate for you to be
- 13:31reaching out to my friend to get in contact with me about
- 13:34something that's completely unacceptable.
- 13:36She's like, well, you didn't reply to Jayden, the coach that
- 13:39taught my class in the morning. She's like, you didn't answer
- 13:42Jayden. You didn't reply to Jayden.
- 13:44I go Callie, I don't have to reply to Jayden.
- 13:47If this girl wants to be like involved in me and my
- 13:50friendships and reach out to my friends on behalf of her to ask
- 13:54me about my tik toks and my and solid core, then she needs to
- 13:57quit her job as a coach and become a client because there
- 13:59needs to be a level of professionalism.
- 14:01This is on Chuck E Cheese. So Anthony's whole thing is
- 14:04like, I did nothing wrong. Like I showed up for a class
- 14:06that I booked and the instructor wasn't there.
- 14:09Like, what was I supposed to do? Like, I'm not lying in this
- 14:11video. So he hasn't taken it down.
- 14:13Now there is another side to this story.
- 14:16So apparently the class he attended was cancelled because
- 14:19nobody was signed up, I guess. But there was a glitch in their
- 14:21system which allowed him to sign up right before the class
- 14:24started and the instructor didn't know.
- 14:26And I guess the way that he got into the studio and got
- 14:29everything going is like you have a code when you go to solid
- 14:32core, like when you're a member so you have a code so you can
- 14:34like enter the gym without anyone being there.
- 14:36Now there's tons of discourse about this on Reddit, tons of
- 14:39people saying that they go to the same solid core as he does
- 14:43and that he has like problematic behavior all the time.
- 14:46So one post reads, I take classes at the studio and have
- 14:50seen his behavior multiple times.
- 14:52This isn't A1 off situation. He often doesn't follow the
- 14:55rules, shows up without being registered, takes other people's
- 14:59machines and records during classes even after being told
- 15:02not to. He has posted multiple videos
- 15:04that show other people working out in the background without
- 15:06their consent. I've seen him walk out mid class
- 15:09after doing his own routine which disrupts everyone else.
- 15:12You can also see in his own video that the instructor texted
- 15:14him saying the class was cancelled and asked if he was
- 15:16still coming. So the idea that she just no
- 15:19showed isn't accurate based on what he posted himself.
- 15:22There's no way to verify if this is true or not, and Anthony has
- 15:25responded to this. He has responded to what people
- 15:27are saying on Reddit. And as far as the Reddit thread,
- 15:30I don't even want to give it life.
- 15:31It's so hilarious. You have to ask yourself, how do
- 15:35how all of a sudden do these people have a problem with him?
- 15:38And there's all these complaints after he just made a viral
- 15:41video, yet he's been going to solid core 5 * a week for six
- 15:45years and there's never been an issue.
- 15:47And he's like a star solid core person.
- 15:49Like I'm sorry, how do I steal someone's machine at solid core?
- 15:53You guys see my video? I'm like the earliest one there.
- 15:56I'm the first one there. There's no machines for me to
- 15:58steal. They're all open.
- 15:59Also, no one ever said anything to me about filming.
- 16:02Everything was fine for my thousandth class.
- 16:04That video that I filmed with my thousand class, no one ever said
- 16:06anything about the meta glasses or told me that it wasn't OK.
- 16:09OK, but one of the craziest things about this story, the
- 16:12thing that people are actually like loving from this story
- 16:15despite like what is true, what is not like we really don't know
- 16:19is that he is still going back to solid core.
- 16:22He's still taking this instructors class and he posted
- 16:25a vlog going back being like, I'm going back amid our feud.
- 16:28And you can hear him say like, oh, sorry about the video.
- 16:30And then she's like, Oh yeah, no, I'm on probation.
- 16:33So I need to apologize. And people are like, this is
- 16:37such a lesson in confidence because he really, I mean, I
- 16:40don't know if he did anything wrong or not, but he really
- 16:41doesn't believe he's done anything wrong.
- 16:43If there's one thing we can take away, it's that he has audacity
- 16:46and confidence. And that is something that I am
- 16:49personally trying to develop more of as as like a woman.
- 16:52I find it really challenging, especially in business.
- 16:55So watching this, despite if he is right or wrong or the
- 16:58instructor is right or wrong or whatever, you know what, I could
- 17:01take a lesson or two from him. It's also so relatable that he's
- 17:04still going to solid core. He's like, I can't quit
- 17:07honestly. Fair.
- 17:08Like I my version of solid core for myself is Berry's.
- 17:12I'm fucking obsessed with Berry's.
- 17:14I mean, I don't have a membership or anything, but I'll
- 17:16do like one off classes here and there and it's like a reward to
- 17:19myself because they're so expensive.
- 17:20And I just like, Oh my God, I love berries so much and the
- 17:24berries instructor could genuinely hit me with their car
- 17:27and I would still go back because I love it so much.
- 17:31So I get it. Anyways guys, that's it for Mini
- 17:34Scroll today and for 2025. I love you guys.
- 17:39Thank you so much for listening. Thank you for this year.
- 17:42I'm so excited to be back in your ears. 5:00-ish days a week.
- 17:47What do we say? Four to five days a week, three
- 17:50to five days a week, depending if there's a deep dive.
- 17:52I'm so excited to be back in your ears next year.
- 17:55Thank you so much for an amazing, amazing year.
- 17:58Please have a healthy and safe and fun break.
- 18:02If you guys are celebrating Christmas and taking a break in
- 18:05December, I hope it's amazing and I can't wait to talk to you
- 18:09guys on January 5th. Bye.
