- 0:05Speaker 1: This is Kevin Sports for It daily on Radio Folkston,
- 0:11Speaker 1: bringing you the Folkston and Hive Sports Show. Well it's
- 0:19Speaker 1: not long the two of the big days, so no
- 0:21Speaker 1: guests today, they're all out Christmas shopping. So what I've
- 0:25Speaker 1: decided to do, I'm going to play backs. I've got
- 0:28Speaker 1: three interviews, three memorable interviews from twenty twenty four. I've
- 0:38Speaker 1: still got some local sports news from last weekend. They've
- 0:41Speaker 1: got some football, got some rugby, well, hocke are you
- 0:44Speaker 1: taking a break until January. I've got some park run
- 0:49Speaker 1: updates and a result from the Folkston Arrows a wheelchair
- 0:52Speaker 1: basketball game. So the interviews I hope to play out
- 0:56Speaker 1: are with Terry Dunham as we talk about World Championship dance.
- 1:01Speaker 1: Adrian Road came into the studio just before her under
- 1:04Speaker 1: fourteen boys hockey team we're about to play a semi
- 1:07Speaker 1: final win a National Cup, and a chat inside the
- 1:11Speaker 1: Julie Rowe Stadium with ultra runner Jody Jackman, straight after
- 1:15Speaker 1: she completed her one hundred mile run along the North
- 1:18Speaker 1: Downs Way. So there's only one thing to do in
- 1:31Speaker 1: a start the show with a Charristmas song.
- 1:35Speaker 2: One oh five point nine Radio Folkston This.
- 1:38Speaker 3: Song is proudly sponsored by JJ's Taxis, who would like
- 1:41Speaker 3: to wish all their loyal.
- 1:42Speaker 1: Customers a happy Christmas and a healthy, prosperous New Year.
- 1:47Speaker 4: From Folkston to double four double four two.
- 1:50Speaker 2: Yeah, Folkston's radio station, Radio Folkston.
- 2:09Speaker 1: So that's the pretenders there and once again a massive
- 2:12Speaker 1: thank you to JJ Tax's first sponsoring that Christmas soul. Now,
- 2:16Speaker 1: our first interview of twenty twenty four was back on
- 2:19Speaker 1: January the ninth when I asked my dance contact Terry
- 2:23Speaker 1: Dunham to come into the studio at very short notice,
- 2:26Speaker 1: and we talked about sixteen year old Luke Littler who
- 2:29Speaker 1: had just won the World Dance Championship.
- 2:31Speaker 4: So let's have a little listen, shall.
- 2:33Speaker 1: We rock the boat there by Hughes Corporation. Well, we're
- 2:41Speaker 1: back in the studio and we are talking dance. It's
- 2:43Speaker 1: the sport at the moment. If you was tuned in
- 2:46Speaker 1: last week and you must have been really excited at
- 2:49Speaker 1: this final and perhaps you learn a bit more about
- 2:51Speaker 1: darts as well. So I'm joined back in the studio
- 2:53Speaker 1: by Terry. You're right, Terry, thank you? Yeah, good now, Terry,
- 2:57Speaker 1: you say you've been up to Ali Palli a couple
- 2:59Speaker 1: of times, and it's a kindval atmosphere. So what do
- 3:04Speaker 1: you think. Do you think that helps the darts players
- 3:06Speaker 1: or it puts them off?
- 3:08Speaker 5: I think it's a combination of both, depending if the
- 3:12Speaker 5: crowd's on your side. I mean, we've seen it with
- 3:14Speaker 5: a few people I know, go In Price, probably Darryl
- 3:17Speaker 5: Gurney a few times the crowd, crowd get on top
- 3:19Speaker 5: of you, it can play in your mind. But again,
- 3:22Speaker 5: if you've got the crowd back in, like quite a
- 3:24Speaker 5: few of them have, then I think it can spur
- 3:26Speaker 5: you on, just you know that little bit more.
- 3:28Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I mean Louke litterly, he did kind of
- 3:30Speaker 1: rise to the crowd, didn't he For a youngster, I'll say,
- 3:33Speaker 1: with little experience. But that's not quite true because I
- 3:37Speaker 1: was looking up his Wikipedia and he's been playing dulls
- 3:41Speaker 1: for a long time. In fact, I can tell you
- 3:43Speaker 1: here was here that he did. He did a nine
- 3:48Speaker 1: dart finish at the age of thirteen. I mean, have
- 3:51Speaker 1: you ever done a night Darce finish?
- 3:53Speaker 5: I'd love to know coaches I've ever got coach I've
- 3:55Speaker 5: got six I think, But was it? It's one of
- 3:58Speaker 5: those things you know, it's the holy grail darts players
- 4:00Speaker 5: in a nine dart finish and to say you've done
- 4:02Speaker 5: it at thirteen, it's.
- 4:03Speaker 1: Yeah, like it's like a golf that does a hole
- 4:07Speaker 1: in one or a snooker player against one for seven.
- 4:10Speaker 5: Is that is that it's one of those things that
- 4:12Speaker 5: it's harder to hit a nine dart or one four
- 4:14Speaker 5: seven or a whole year one.
- 4:15Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, yeah, brilliant.
- 4:17Speaker 1: So anyway, Luke Litlter, he's set the nation of light
- 4:21Speaker 1: with his darts, And do you think it's now going
- 4:23Speaker 1: to make an impact on youngsters who might want to,
- 4:26Speaker 1: you know, think, oh I just try to, you know,
- 4:28Speaker 1: go a little bit better than playing in the shit.
- 4:30Speaker 2: I mean I think it will. I mean I hope
- 4:31Speaker 2: it will.
- 4:31Speaker 5: I mean, you don't get anywhere without youth progressing and
- 4:34Speaker 5: coming through, no matter what sport you play, say with
- 4:36Speaker 5: his football, cricket, darts, rugby, you've got to have the
- 4:39Speaker 5: youth to come through for that next generation. So I
- 4:42Speaker 5: think it will spare a few people on. I mean,
- 4:44Speaker 5: my oldest at schools telling me his old year was
- 4:47Speaker 5: tuned in to watch the darts and they were constantly
- 4:49Speaker 5: on about him. Old do you know him, you know,
- 4:51Speaker 5: how's he getting on and things like that. So just
- 4:53Speaker 5: just by one sixteen year old doing that, you've got
- 4:56Speaker 5: you know, a whole whole year at school now watching
- 4:58Speaker 5: darts and that's on a in a more scale.
- 5:00Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 5:01Speaker 1: Yeah, right then we were talking off before the start
- 5:04Speaker 1: of the show that you went to Romania.
- 5:08Speaker 5: Yeah, twenty two went out to Romainia open just as
- 5:11Speaker 5: a went with a friend, got dragged along and you know,
- 5:14Speaker 5: a a go I was okay, what's the worst that
- 5:15Speaker 5: could happen? Well you were playing, yeah, very badly, but
- 5:19Speaker 5: it doesn't matter. You were there, so did how did
- 5:21Speaker 5: you get roped into that? Then old friend of mine
- 5:23Speaker 5: was out there, he's done a couple before, the Lithuanian
- 5:26Speaker 5: and something else, and he was like, oh, come along,
- 5:28Speaker 5: what's the worst that can happen?
- 5:29Speaker 4: I need I need a pairs partner.
- 5:30Speaker 5: So oh yeah, yeah, you know, Jawn off on a
- 5:33Speaker 5: little holiday, never been to Romania before, and yeah, next
- 5:36Speaker 5: next thing, I know, I've rocked up in this building
- 5:38Speaker 5: and yeah there's former World champions you know, Champions elect,
- 5:41Speaker 5: World Champions Elect there. It was a bit like oh right,
- 5:45Speaker 5: different league, very different. Yeah, yeah, for what did you get, Oh,
- 5:48Speaker 5: didn't go past the first round.
- 5:49Speaker 1: I didn't even win a game really, but I saw
- 5:54Speaker 1: Luke Litl's name against them of Romania.
- 5:56Speaker 5: Was that the same year? It was the same year. Yeah,
- 5:58Speaker 5: come across him a few of his games. Even watched
- 6:02Speaker 5: him in the final and he I think he'd beat
- 6:03Speaker 5: a former world champion in yellow class and in the
- 6:06Speaker 5: final work he was only what fifteen then?
- 6:08Speaker 4: As we wow?
- 6:09Speaker 1: Yeah, so that that never came to anybody's attention, did it? Well,
- 6:11Speaker 1: we might have done in the darts community, but I
- 6:14Speaker 1: certainly keep an eye on what's going on in sport.
- 6:16Speaker 1: And I must admit I'd never heard of the name
- 6:19Speaker 1: Luke Litler until this competition.
- 6:21Speaker 5: But you knew, you knew he was in the circles,
- 6:23Speaker 5: didn't you. Yeah, I've had loaded name for what sort
- 6:25Speaker 5: of three four years now. I mean obviously with my
- 6:28Speaker 5: boys playing you for you obviously hear who are the
- 6:30Speaker 5: good young players around? And then you know, you sort
- 6:34Speaker 5: of keep keep tabs. You just keep an eye out
- 6:35Speaker 5: every time you see and hear the name. And yeah,
- 6:38Speaker 5: he's just grown and grown this year on the youth circuit.
- 6:41Speaker 1: He's pretty much won everything there is to win yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 6:45Speaker 1: excuse me. So it's going to change his life, isn't it.
- 6:48Speaker 1: I mean he's now going to be asked to advertise
- 6:52Speaker 1: dance flights and you know, dart boards and things like that.
- 6:56Speaker 4: Do you think.
- 6:59Speaker 1: You can't stop anyone progressing? But do you think it's
- 7:01Speaker 1: come too soon for him?
- 7:03Speaker 4: It depends how you want to look at it depends
- 7:05Speaker 4: how he handles it, I think. Yeah.
- 7:06Speaker 5: I mean there was the old sayings that if you're
- 7:09Speaker 5: good enough, you're old enough, right, yeah, and he certainly
- 7:11Speaker 5: proved he's good enough. I think you know, his family
- 7:13Speaker 5: and his management they're probably keeping grounded. Yeah, I mean they.
- 7:16Speaker 5: I think they've dealt with him quite well. I mean
- 7:18Speaker 5: British media doesn't help. It doesn't help anyone who's successful.
- 7:21Speaker 5: So you're right they like to jump on them straight away,
- 7:23Speaker 5: didn't they exactly? And a few people have, you know,
- 7:25Speaker 5: a few of the experienced process. They just leave my alone,
- 7:27Speaker 5: let him play darts. So I think as long as
- 7:29Speaker 5: he's looked after, I don't think it will phaze him.
- 7:32Speaker 4: And he's respected, isn't he by the other dance players.
- 7:36Speaker 1: He's not just like I've got to beat this kid,
- 7:38Speaker 1: you know, it's I'm really I'm really up against it today.
- 7:41Speaker 1: And what did I hear? I remember it. I was
- 7:45Speaker 1: reading about Luke Humphreys. During the game. He said to himself,
- 7:49Speaker 1: I've really got to up my game. I've got to
- 7:51Speaker 1: beat this this opponent. He didn't call him a child
- 7:54Speaker 1: or a boy or anything. He said because he's going
- 7:56Speaker 1: to be around for a long time. And that's what's
- 7:59Speaker 1: buried him on because he knew that this Luke Litler
- 8:01Speaker 1: was going to be knocking on the door for you
- 8:04Speaker 1: in the next few years. So he hasn't a respect
- 8:07Speaker 1: of others. Do you think you might encourage more dance
- 8:10Speaker 1: players to play locally as well in your league?
- 8:13Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean it can do it.
- 8:14Speaker 5: I mean this time of year, you know everyone gets
- 8:16Speaker 5: the buzz of darts.
- 8:17Speaker 4: It's that time of year.
- 8:18Speaker 5: So I mean there's I know, there's a few local
- 8:20Speaker 5: leagues finishing up at the end of the season. You know,
- 8:22Speaker 5: they're always looking out for more players, more teams, so
- 8:25Speaker 5: opportunities there for more people to join.
- 8:27Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, okay, And before we go, I mean, is
- 8:31Speaker 1: there anything that's really kind of struck a nerve with you,
- 8:36Speaker 1: really really brought home that is the game what he's
- 8:39Speaker 1: done to the game.
- 8:41Speaker 5: I think he's taken it to another level without shadow
- 8:44Speaker 5: of a doubt. I mean, you know, back in the
- 8:45Speaker 5: day you had Eric Bristow who was the flamboyant one. Yeah,
- 8:48Speaker 5: you had deed Phil Taylor who dominated for years. I
- 8:51Speaker 5: mean Michael van Gerwin then come through and sort of
- 8:53Speaker 5: took it. I think I think Luke will take it
- 8:56Speaker 5: to another level again. I think, but for the slightly
- 8:58Speaker 5: younger generation and give them an.
- 9:01Speaker 4: Idol to follow. Yeah, yeah, that's great.
- 9:03Speaker 1: As we said, he doesn't look sixteen, but he's going
- 9:05Speaker 1: to get that stick all the time, isn't he? And
- 9:08Speaker 1: he certainly needs to shave. But I mean we know
- 9:14Speaker 1: he's sixteen because it says that last last last year,
- 9:17Speaker 1: he was studying for his GCSS thing and he said
- 9:19Speaker 1: he'd be glad when he passes his driving says, so
- 9:22Speaker 1: they don't have to drive a bit like you.
- 9:24Speaker 5: They don't have to drive him around everywhere. Yeah, save
- 9:26Speaker 5: a bit on Petro wuldn't they? Yeah, I mean at
- 9:28Speaker 5: that level, they probably get all that paid for him. Yeah, yeah,
- 9:30Speaker 5: I'm sure.
- 9:31Speaker 1: Yeah, Well I'll tell you I'm so glad you come in,
- 9:34Speaker 1: Terry because it's nice to know that even like grassroots level,
- 9:38Speaker 1: like you play Roundy Folkston and yourself, that you've been
- 9:41Speaker 1: in if you like, in the same competition as a
- 9:44Speaker 1: current world champion. It's you didn't know that at the time,
- 9:47Speaker 1: of course, but.
- 9:49Speaker 5: No, I didn't he you know, you knew he was
- 9:51Speaker 5: going to go and do great things, but at the
- 9:53Speaker 5: time he was just you've champion.
- 9:55Speaker 1: You probably thought, oh, he's going to be a good
- 9:57Speaker 1: plot dance player one day, but you probably never thought
- 9:59Speaker 1: he'd make well champion at the age of sixteen.
- 10:01Speaker 5: I mean, like I said, out there as well was
- 10:03Speaker 5: Bo Greaves and she's a two time Ladies champion at
- 10:06Speaker 5: the age of nineteen. Yeah, and she was out there
- 10:08Speaker 5: at the time, so yeah, I mean you had former
- 10:10Speaker 5: world champions, so it's yeah, you can go and mix
- 10:13Speaker 5: it with these people.
- 10:13Speaker 4: Yeah, that's great.
- 10:15Speaker 1: So what advice would you give to people that they like,
- 10:19Speaker 1: they don't like to play a little bit darc In
- 10:20Speaker 1: the sheard, but they've seen they've seen Luke Litler and
- 10:23Speaker 1: what can do and it wants to entice them to,
- 10:24Speaker 1: you know, get a bit more involved. What can what
- 10:27Speaker 1: advice can you give to people that want to get
- 10:28Speaker 1: involved in dance. How would they go about it? Be confident,
- 10:32Speaker 1: believe in yourself and reach out.
- 10:34Speaker 5: Like I said, there's you've got team leagues locally, you've
- 10:36Speaker 5: got singles leagues, and there's always next steps if you know,
- 10:39Speaker 5: if you find that you want to go and push yourself,
- 10:41Speaker 5: there are there are other levels to go a lot
- 10:43Speaker 5: super league. So you know that there's plenty out there
- 10:47Speaker 5: for people that if you want to play on their
- 10:48Speaker 5: own or they want to be part of a team. Yeah,
- 10:51Speaker 5: there's definitely plenty out there. I mean we can always
- 10:53Speaker 5: point them in directions. Yeah, needed for whatever they want.
- 10:56Speaker 1: So people can drop you a little message, yeah, means
- 10:59Speaker 1: always happy to help. Terry, thank you so much for
- 11:01Speaker 1: coming in. It really has opened my eyes to it.
- 11:03Speaker 1: We we we've highlighted dance before before all this has happened,
- 11:08Speaker 1: but I never thought we'd been sitting here talking about
- 11:10Speaker 1: you playing in the same tournament as a world champion.
- 11:14Speaker 4: Me neither, Thanks Terry.
- 11:23Speaker 1: So that was Terry Dunham and me having a chat
- 11:26Speaker 1: at the start of the year about World Dance Championship,
- 11:30Speaker 1: which is coming around again as we speak, and I'm
- 11:34Speaker 1: pretty sure that I'm gonna have to get older Terry
- 11:36Speaker 1: to get him back in the studio to find out
- 11:38Speaker 1: how has dars changed in that year the local dance scene,
- 11:42Speaker 1: I mean youngsters picked it up, as you know, they've
- 11:45Speaker 1: been inspired by Luke's performance. So we'd have to get
- 11:48Speaker 1: Terry back in in the new year and he can
- 11:50Speaker 1: bring us up to date. We're just going to keep
- 11:51Speaker 1: one eye on the Dance Championship and see what happens.
- 11:55Speaker 1: And by the way, if he was watching Sportsview Personality
- 11:58Speaker 1: of the Year not so long ago, Luke Litler won
- 12:01Speaker 1: a couple of prizes. He one was it a Youngster
- 12:05Speaker 1: of a Year or something, but he was also third.
- 12:08Speaker 1: I think he was third in the actual full competition.
- 12:11Speaker 1: So he's made a real name for himself. Okay, it's
- 12:14Speaker 1: a little bit of music. Now we've got Will Young
- 12:16Speaker 1: and who am I? Sometimes?
- 12:23Speaker 2: You know you pushed me so hard.
- 12:24Speaker 1: I don't know how.
- 12:29Speaker 2: You are.
- 12:37Speaker 1: As real young there from two thousand and six. So
- 12:41Speaker 1: we're going to crack on with our second interview.
- 12:44Speaker 5: Now.
- 12:44Speaker 1: This one featured coach of the Optimist Under fourteen boys
- 12:49Speaker 1: hockey team, Adrian Rowe. Now this was recorded just before
- 12:53Speaker 1: the boys played Winchester for a place in the final
- 12:56Speaker 1: of a National Cup and adrianne Is the coach is
- 13:00Speaker 1: a bit a hooky yourself in the seconds for the optimists,
- 13:02Speaker 1: So let's have it.
- 13:03Speaker 4: Will listen.
- 13:12Speaker 1: From nineteen seventy one the ccs and Tap turns on
- 13:18Speaker 1: the wall. Okay, we're back in a studio. Now we
- 13:21Speaker 1: join once again by Adrian and Adrian there's a massive,
- 13:25Speaker 1: massive game coming up on Sunday at Three Hills, tell
- 13:29Speaker 1: us about it. There is.
- 13:30Speaker 3: So when we enter into the League and Cup with
- 13:35Speaker 3: England Hockey, you enter into a tier. The lads are
- 13:39Speaker 3: in Tier two and Tier four and we also enter
- 13:43Speaker 3: into a National Cup competition. So the competition starts locally.
- 13:46Speaker 3: You play against you know, local size. We played Canterbury
- 13:50Speaker 3: and Noel Park and as you go further along in
- 13:52Speaker 3: the in the competition, you go a bit further Afield, Winchester, Sorry,
- 13:57Speaker 3: Wimbledon we've been to.
- 13:58Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 13:59Speaker 7: So we we are in the semi finals.
- 14:01Speaker 1: Semi finals and you've got a lovely, lovely homes draw
- 14:05Speaker 1: as well, haven't you.
- 14:05Speaker 7: We have very lucky homes quarterfinal and semi final.
- 14:08Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 14:08Speaker 1: Because last week on the program, I think it was
- 14:11Speaker 1: that I looked at the Google map out and found
- 14:14Speaker 1: out where the other teams were.
- 14:16Speaker 4: And the further is that you might have had to
- 14:17Speaker 4: travel was Manchester, wasn't it It was?
- 14:19Speaker 7: Yeah, that'd have been a bigger way game.
- 14:21Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, I mean it would have been a great
- 14:23Speaker 1: experience for the boys. But I mean from an administration
- 14:25Speaker 1: point for Three Hills and that it's it's nice to
- 14:28Speaker 1: be on home territory at obviously an advantage.
- 14:31Speaker 4: Now now the boys been training this.
- 14:34Speaker 7: Week, they have we train every Monday.
- 14:36Speaker 3: We've really been putting a focus on the cup games
- 14:39Speaker 3: without putting on too much pressure.
- 14:41Speaker 7: Lots of gameplay in training.
- 14:44Speaker 3: We're so fortunate to have lots of people that have
- 14:47Speaker 3: got expert knowledge that have come down to help us out.
- 14:49Speaker 3: We've got hockey playing parents who have played, you know,
- 14:53Speaker 3: very high suandard of hockey. We've got old club members
- 14:55Speaker 3: that play played national league, all been helping us out.
- 14:58Speaker 3: So it's fantastic.
- 14:59Speaker 1: Yeah, but it's really put I don't know, it's almost
- 15:02Speaker 1: put the club back on the mat, really, hasn't it.
- 15:04Speaker 3: It has, especially in hockey circles folks, and always feels
- 15:07Speaker 3: a little bit on the edge, I think because we're
- 15:09Speaker 3: surrounded by the sea and never sort of seen as
- 15:11Speaker 3: one of the big clubs, but it's really great to
- 15:13Speaker 3: put our name out there in the national competition.
- 15:15Speaker 4: Oh brilliant. Yeah.
- 15:16Speaker 1: So let's get back to basics for people that don't
- 15:20Speaker 1: know hockey. How many in a team? Eleven on the
- 15:22Speaker 1: bitch and how many in your squad?
- 15:24Speaker 7: We've got fifteen?
- 15:25Speaker 1: Fifteen? And are you a loud If a player comes off,
- 15:30Speaker 1: can he go back on again? Yes?
- 15:32Speaker 4: Rolling subs?
- 15:33Speaker 1: Yeah? Yeah. And the one thing I did learn actually
- 15:35Speaker 1: when I was chatting with Brian Murrell watching the game
- 15:38Speaker 1: your it would have been your quarterfinal, was that in
- 15:42Speaker 1: actual fact, the game is played in four quarters of
- 15:44Speaker 1: fifteen minutes, isn't it?
- 15:45Speaker 2: Yes?
- 15:46Speaker 3: It is actually that can it can be halves? That
- 15:48Speaker 3: it's normally agreed beforehand. So the England Hockey guidance actually
- 15:53Speaker 3: is to play halves at this age group. The coach
- 15:56Speaker 3: from the other team and I agreed on this occasion
- 15:58Speaker 3: to play quarters.
- 15:59Speaker 4: Okay, so what will happen on Sunday? Will you have
- 16:03Speaker 4: a chat between you again or halves?
- 16:06Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 16:06Speaker 1: Behalves this weekends? Yeah yeah, So does it actually make
- 16:12Speaker 1: any difference? Players sort of cool down and then take
- 16:15Speaker 1: a bit of time to get going again.
- 16:17Speaker 3: Yeah, it really depends on the circumstances of the game,
- 16:19Speaker 3: because actually sometimes it's a good opportunity to get them
- 16:21Speaker 3: together and have a chat about something that you want
- 16:23Speaker 3: to change if you're playing quarters, whereas a half is
- 16:25Speaker 3: a long time. Yeah, and changing something while they're trying
- 16:29Speaker 3: to play is not that easy.
- 16:31Speaker 1: Right, I mean it was when I watched the quarters,
- 16:35Speaker 1: it was good. You're I got there in time because
- 16:37Speaker 1: I think the first goal went in with about thirty
- 16:39Speaker 1: seconds it is.
- 16:40Speaker 3: Yeah, you couldn't think of a better way to start
- 16:42Speaker 3: a game, to be honest, I don't think the other
- 16:44Speaker 3: team had to touch the ball before it when.
- 16:45Speaker 1: You're right, Yeah, but they did pull the couple back
- 16:48Speaker 1: and it was a really exciting game. Now, what was
- 16:52Speaker 1: I going to say? I noticed I don't know much
- 16:56Speaker 1: about hockey, but I noticed that some of your players
- 16:59Speaker 1: that were playing that Sunday they look like they've had
- 17:02Speaker 1: a bit more experience. And I talking to Brian, he said, oh,
- 17:07Speaker 1: it was a couple of those played in the seventeen
- 17:09Speaker 1: with us yesterday.
- 17:11Speaker 4: So that must make a big difference, wasn't it.
- 17:13Speaker 7: It definitely does.
- 17:14Speaker 3: So when the lads turn thirteen, they're able to play
- 17:18Speaker 3: in adult hockey. So the ones that are in the
- 17:21Speaker 3: older age group of the under fourteens this year have
- 17:23Speaker 3: been exposed at adult hockey. It makes such a huge difference,
- 17:26Speaker 3: really changes the way they play their game.
- 17:28Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 17:29Speaker 1: Yeah, because Brian was telling me that the day before
- 17:31Speaker 1: the quarters, the goalie, your goalie, who didn't have much
- 17:35Speaker 1: to do really on the Sunday, he was flying about
- 17:38Speaker 1: all over the place on the second.
- 17:39Speaker 7: I believe he got that game.
- 17:41Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 17:42Speaker 4: Oh so that's that's really good.
- 17:44Speaker 1: And I can see from being, if you like, uneducated
- 17:47Speaker 1: hockey spectator, that some of them definitely had a bit
- 17:50Speaker 1: of an older hockey head on them.
- 17:52Speaker 6: Didn't they.
- 17:52Speaker 4: Yeah, right there the opposition.
- 17:56Speaker 1: I don't suppose you know much about them, apart from
- 17:58Speaker 1: going on their website and having a little Yeah, I suppose.
- 18:01Speaker 3: That's a good thing about these national competitions is that
- 18:04Speaker 3: you actually don't know, but it's all very unknown. I
- 18:07Speaker 3: think they're a similar size club to ours. Their lads
- 18:10Speaker 3: play in a league, the same you know, similar to
- 18:12Speaker 3: what you know, similar to us. It would just be
- 18:15Speaker 3: what comes up on the day.
- 18:16Speaker 1: Yeah, that's right, And no doubt is they've got the
- 18:18Speaker 1: same structure, which I think they have. They've got four
- 18:20Speaker 1: ladies teams and seven men's teams, no doubt some of
- 18:23Speaker 1: their juniors that have got senior heads on as well.
- 18:25Speaker 1: Ye yeah, okay, So I don't want us to name anybody,
- 18:31Speaker 1: but do you think you've got any like budding players
- 18:34Speaker 1: coming through in your team?
- 18:35Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 18:36Speaker 3: They really do play exceptionally well as a squad or fifteen,
- 18:40Speaker 3: but there are I think at this age it's hard
- 18:42Speaker 3: to tell because of them developing at different times. You
- 18:45Speaker 3: know who is going to become a star. But yeah,
- 18:48Speaker 3: there are absolutely some you know, excellent, excellent hockey players
- 18:51Speaker 3: in there.
- 18:52Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 18:52Speaker 1: And do you find if you've got a pick eleven,
- 18:56Speaker 1: is it on a bit of a round robbin system
- 18:58Speaker 1: or you do kick off with you even best players.
- 19:01Speaker 3: So in the league we do a bit of round robin,
- 19:03Speaker 3: you know, depending on the game circumstance, depending who we're
- 19:06Speaker 3: playing against in the cup, particularly these last three or
- 19:09Speaker 3: four games, we've we started with our best eleven.
- 19:11Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, okay, and they and the subs if you like,
- 19:15Speaker 1: except that if it's a very close game, a very
- 19:18Speaker 1: tight game, they might not get on they do.
- 19:20Speaker 3: I've not known maturity from lads that are just thirteen
- 19:24Speaker 3: like it. You know, they completely understand. They're all about
- 19:27Speaker 3: the squad and the team and you know, the result,
- 19:29Speaker 3: the process rather than themselves.
- 19:31Speaker 7: It's fantastic.
- 19:32Speaker 1: Yeah, that's that's great game, gamemanship, discipline anyway, and it
- 19:36Speaker 1: should be like that in any sports.
- 19:38Speaker 3: And at thirteen, that's a very mature way to look
- 19:41Speaker 3: at sports. I think it's not about me, it's about
- 19:43Speaker 3: the team. Yeah, And do you think it's really sunk
- 19:45Speaker 3: in or I mean thirteen fourteen year olds you know,
- 19:51Speaker 3: you know it might go whatever, But has it really
- 19:53Speaker 3: sunk in that they're in a semi final. I think
- 19:56Speaker 3: they recognize that it's a pretty big deal. They are
- 19:58Speaker 3: the most cool, calm and collective.
- 20:00Speaker 7: Group of lads. They keep me Corkharma.
- 20:02Speaker 3: Collected, and so I think they understand, you know, that's
- 20:06Speaker 3: probably the biggest game they've played in.
- 20:07Speaker 7: But also they're ready.
- 20:08Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 20:09Speaker 1: Well, okay, now you're the coach. But behind the scenes,
- 20:13Speaker 1: so to speak, there must be lots of people helping
- 20:15Speaker 1: you out. So I know there's probably too many to mention,
- 20:18Speaker 1: and you don't want to leave anybody out, But tell
- 20:21Speaker 1: me what goes into what else do you need to
- 20:24Speaker 1: run an under fourteen side apart from a coach.
- 20:26Speaker 3: Yes, I mean so many people. Really, all I'm doing
- 20:29Speaker 3: is keeping the cogs turning. But the parents are so
- 20:32Speaker 3: dedicated to take their you know, lads to all parts
- 20:35Speaker 3: of the country to play hockey.
- 20:37Speaker 7: We couldn't do it without them. We have lots of
- 20:39Speaker 7: different coaches.
- 20:40Speaker 3: We have a really good junior leader program within Optimists
- 20:44Speaker 3: where the older juniors come down and help coach. The
- 20:48Speaker 3: lads really respond well to that because it's a peer
- 20:51Speaker 3: almost rather than a coach, you know, umpires that give
- 20:54Speaker 3: up their time, you know.
- 20:56Speaker 7: For nothing.
- 20:57Speaker 3: And like I said, we've got seven players in the
- 20:59Speaker 3: square who have got hockey parents and it's great to
- 21:02Speaker 3: have their expertise.
- 21:03Speaker 1: I did notice that over the years, and I've been
- 21:05Speaker 1: reading out these results and it might happen later on
- 21:08Speaker 1: in the show. Actually that some of the names that
- 21:11Speaker 1: do come around again, you think it must be it's dead.
- 21:14Speaker 1: But just on that you've hit on that point about
- 21:17Speaker 1: umpires for the semi final. Do you have to have
- 21:19Speaker 1: independent umpires?
- 21:21Speaker 3: We don't club the club, So what we decided to
- 21:24Speaker 3: do as a club is a point level one umpires
- 21:29Speaker 3: who umpire lots of different standards, not just juniors.
- 21:34Speaker 7: So yeah, I'm they'll be great.
- 21:36Speaker 1: Yeah, good right, Okay, now before we wind up, is
- 21:40Speaker 1: there anything else you want to say or any thank you?
- 21:44Speaker 1: It's always a tough one, this one, but now's your
- 21:46Speaker 1: chance to mention anybody that you really really want to,
- 21:50Speaker 1: anyone that's helped you. Yeah.
- 21:52Speaker 3: I mean, I'd like to thank the lads really, because
- 21:55Speaker 3: they've made it an absolute privilege. It's not a difficult
- 21:58Speaker 3: job because they do such a good job. They're such
- 22:00Speaker 3: a dedicated, committed group of lads and they make it
- 22:03Speaker 3: thoroughly enjoyable. So the credit goes to them. So you
- 22:06Speaker 3: say you've been with these boys as they've grown up.
- 22:08Speaker 3: They've moved on here every year, so it's two yearly.
- 22:11Speaker 3: So I started with them when they came into under twelve,
- 22:14Speaker 3: so I've had them. This is my fourth season being
- 22:16Speaker 3: around them.
- 22:17Speaker 1: And will they stay together for next year's under fourteenth
- 22:21Speaker 1: to fifteen sixteen six?
- 22:23Speaker 3: Yet that always tends to pieter off a little bit
- 22:26Speaker 3: in all clubs because they're playing lots of men's hockey.
- 22:28Speaker 3: But this group I think will be keen to carry
- 22:31Speaker 3: on as a group of juniors as well.
- 22:32Speaker 7: So we'll be entering under sixteen leagues next year.
- 22:35Speaker 1: Okay, so right now, before we go, last little thing,
- 22:37Speaker 1: tell us when and where the game is and when
- 22:40Speaker 1: people have.
- 22:40Speaker 4: Got to be there on time.
- 22:42Speaker 7: Beyond hopefully for an early goal.
- 22:43Speaker 3: So the game is this Sunday at Three Hills and
- 22:46Speaker 3: pushed back as a midday.
- 22:47Speaker 1: Right, brilliant, Adrian, thank you so much for coming in.
- 22:50Speaker 1: I am determined to be down there. I'm really really
- 22:53Speaker 1: looking forward to this one. And so I want to
- 22:55Speaker 1: wish you and all the under forties all the best,
- 22:58Speaker 1: and I hope that lots of hockey people are out
- 23:01Speaker 1: there listening to this and you just get along there.
- 23:04Speaker 1: Just if you've never watched hockey before, just go down.
- 23:07Speaker 1: You've never been to the three yearls before, just go down.
- 23:10Speaker 1: Have a look. This is on our doorstep. It's a
- 23:12Speaker 1: national competition. So Adrianne, thank you so much.
- 23:14Speaker 7: Thank well.
- 23:20Speaker 4: I'll tell you what.
- 23:21Speaker 1: I went and watched that game and the boys won
- 23:23Speaker 1: five to one. You know, it seems ages ago, but
- 23:27Speaker 1: it was such an exciting period for the folks and
- 23:29Speaker 1: optimists and for the fourteens. Now the final unfortunately was
- 23:33Speaker 1: played in Nottingham. There was no way I could get
- 23:36Speaker 1: up there against a team called Wallingford and the result
- 23:39Speaker 1: was a resounding a nine to one victory. So once
- 23:42Speaker 1: again we've got to get Adrianne back in for an
- 23:44Speaker 1: update and see how the boys are doing this season.
- 23:48Speaker 1: Hockey in this town has just become massive, you know,
- 23:52Speaker 1: and I think it's bigger than football, I really do.
- 23:56Speaker 4: It's such a popular sport.
- 23:57Speaker 1: If you can go down anytime at the weekend, any
- 24:00Speaker 1: weekend almost well when they start again in January, but
- 24:04Speaker 1: if you get out to the Three Heels you almost
- 24:06Speaker 1: certainly find a hockey game going on.
- 24:09Speaker 4: Righty ho. We've done a bit of sport and now
- 24:11Speaker 4: it is time for a bit of music.
- 24:12Speaker 1: And I just love this track. This is the shape
- 24:14Speaker 1: Shifters and a Loaders theme. That's the shape Shifters there
- 24:36Speaker 1: Loaders theme. That's a really rockiness great, that's just what
- 24:39Speaker 1: we need for a thirsty lunch time. Okay, so not
- 24:42Speaker 1: long till Christmas? Now, have you done all your Christmas shoping?
- 24:45Speaker 4: Where you be?
- 24:46Speaker 1: Like me? You start tomorrow? Well, I think the only
- 24:50Speaker 1: thing Christmas I've done so far I had a huge
- 24:53Speaker 1: Christmas dinner yesterday me and missus Ferret. We went up
- 24:56Speaker 1: to the Indoor Bowls Club and the lovely Lacy there
- 25:00Speaker 1: full house there, and she served up a fantastic It's
- 25:03Speaker 1: like a carvery. You know, you've got to be a
- 25:05Speaker 1: member to be fair to get the special privilege of
- 25:10Speaker 1: going into the Indoor Bowls Club for lunch. But well, yeah,
- 25:14Speaker 1: it's like a carvery. You just go up and melt
- 25:16Speaker 1: yourself and it's just like it was never ending, never ending.
- 25:20Speaker 1: As far as Christmas is concerned about, the only thing
- 25:23Speaker 1: I've done so far is I posted my Christmas cards.
- 25:26Speaker 4: I just got in.
- 25:27Speaker 1: That's right bang on the deadline for the last day
- 25:30Speaker 1: of the second class post, so I got them away.
- 25:32Speaker 1: They've got a few to deliver by hand. But I
- 25:34Speaker 1: do hope to get around to see all the family
- 25:36Speaker 1: on Christmas Day and going to Christmas. I think it's
- 25:39Speaker 1: about time we had another adopted Christmas song.
- 25:43Speaker 2: One oh five point nine Radio Focus.
- 25:46Speaker 3: Then this Adopted Christmas song is brought to you by
- 25:49Speaker 3: Kerry Holloway.
- 25:51Speaker 7: Who would like to wush a very merry Christmas and
- 25:53Speaker 7: a happy New.
- 25:54Speaker 2: Year Folkstone's radio station Radio Focus.
- 25:58Speaker 4: Then he.
- 26:03Speaker 2: Chris smile you ever Blue.
- 26:17Speaker 4: Blue, Blue Blue Chrismus There from Elvis Presley.
- 26:20Speaker 1: And that's an interesting adopted song there, because I found
- 26:24Speaker 1: out this morning that this song has been adopted by
- 26:27Speaker 1: an ady called Kerry Holloway, and I had to find
- 26:31Speaker 1: out who or what was business what. But she is
- 26:33Speaker 1: actually a friend of Paul Reynolds and she's a listener
- 26:37Speaker 1: in America. So how cool is that? So massive?
- 26:40Speaker 4: Thank you to you carry for sponsoring that Christmas song.
- 26:44Speaker 1: Okay, so this third interview, I wanted to get these
- 26:47Speaker 1: interviews in the start of the show, if you like,
- 26:49Speaker 1: because I do think they're important. And it really was
- 26:53Speaker 1: a tough call. These three interviews that I've done today.
- 26:57Speaker 1: They're not favorites or anything. It's not for because I
- 27:01Speaker 1: found out that anybody that comes through that door wants
- 27:05Speaker 1: to speak about this sport once are there's a bit
- 27:08Speaker 1: of a slow start, but quite often it's his job
- 27:11Speaker 1: to shut them up because they're so passionate about what
- 27:14Speaker 1: they do. Now, So if you have got a story,
- 27:19Speaker 1: a sporty story, it doesn't have to be a result
- 27:22Speaker 1: or anything. If you know there's someone behind the scenes
- 27:24Speaker 1: of a club that really deserves to mention, you want
- 27:27Speaker 1: to come in and speak about them or just tell
- 27:31Speaker 1: us about your under thirteens, whatever team or whatever. Then
- 27:35Speaker 1: this is a focused in community radio show for you people,
- 27:40Speaker 1: radio station, for you people out there. So I want
- 27:43Speaker 1: you all to just think about it and next year
- 27:46Speaker 1: and come along, come into the studio and have a chat. Now.
- 27:50Speaker 1: The last one, Now, back in August, I tracked down
- 27:54Speaker 1: ultra runner Jody Jackman.
- 27:56Speaker 4: Now this was immediately and I mean immediately.
- 27:58Speaker 1: It was about five minutes after she'd finished a one
- 28:01Speaker 1: hundred mile run along the North downs Way.
- 28:04Speaker 4: So just have a little listen to what we were
- 28:06Speaker 4: talking about.
- 28:07Speaker 1: Well, I've at the Julie Rowe Stadium today because I've
- 28:10Speaker 1: come to watch the finish of a fantastic event which
- 28:13Speaker 1: we were telling you about last week on Radio Focus.
- 28:16Speaker 1: And I'm joined now by Jody Jackman, who's just finished
- 28:19Speaker 1: one hundred miles on the North downs Way. Now it's
- 28:23Speaker 1: a bit of a stupid question, Jody, but how are
- 28:25Speaker 1: you quite so quite tired?
- 28:27Speaker 6: And we started running at ten past seven yesterday. Wellning
- 28:31Speaker 6: and I finished about quarters to twelve this afternoon.
- 28:34Speaker 1: You've done the South downs Way. How does that compare
- 28:37Speaker 1: for today?
- 28:38Speaker 6: South Downs Way? Our film was more runnable. There was
- 28:41Speaker 6: a lot more grassy areas that were nicer underfoot. North
- 28:44Speaker 6: down Way is locks and lots of rocks, incredibly steep
- 28:49Speaker 6: hills up and down, and it really really does take
- 28:52Speaker 6: it out of.
- 28:53Speaker 4: Later in your body. Yeah.
- 28:55Speaker 1: I mean, so let's say the first half was that comfortable.
- 28:59Speaker 1: You know, he was in your sort of comfort zone.
- 29:02Speaker 6: Yeah. I was okay up until about fifty miles and
- 29:05Speaker 6: then I think this tired and this hit making. So
- 29:09Speaker 6: my nutrition went to plan. I was eating while I
- 29:12Speaker 6: was drinking. Well, but I just I just think I
- 29:16Speaker 6: got so tired. It was so demanding.
- 29:19Speaker 4: Yes that, Yeah, you pulled through it. I mean what
- 29:22Speaker 4: was your thinking about? What helped you?
- 29:24Speaker 1: Sort of your body's losing power and energy? What goes
- 29:28Speaker 1: through your mind?
- 29:29Speaker 6: You just focus on checkpoints to checkpoint. You might plan
- 29:32Speaker 6: what food you're going to get when you get there.
- 29:34Speaker 6: And my husband Alex came out to cruise for some
- 29:37Speaker 6: of the earlier checkpoints before we had to leave because
- 29:40Speaker 6: he had work today, so I knew sort of after
- 29:43Speaker 6: maybe seven miles I would see him again.
- 29:46Speaker 1: That was always a nice distraction.
- 29:49Speaker 6: I also have some friends who were volunteering at checkpoints
- 29:52Speaker 6: out on the course, So again knowing that you're going
- 29:55Speaker 6: to go into their checkpoint and actually get.
- 29:57Speaker 1: To see it lift you when you see people that
- 29:59Speaker 1: you brilliant.
- 30:00Speaker 6: I mean all the stuff there, all the volunteers on
- 30:04Speaker 6: the checkpoints, and the volunteers at the end. You made
- 30:07Speaker 6: it feel so welcome. Whether you know them or not,
- 30:10Speaker 6: they really do take good care of you.
- 30:13Speaker 1: So what do you feel like when you came off
- 30:14Speaker 1: the trail, when you came in through East will Manor
- 30:17Speaker 1: and you thought it's not far and now surely I felt.
- 30:20Speaker 6: Like the longest four miles in the world at that point.
- 30:24Speaker 6: It was just a case of power walking, really, and
- 30:27Speaker 6: my feet I've got untold blisters on them and they're
- 30:31Speaker 6: very swollen and very sore. So yeah, just power walk
- 30:34Speaker 6: in get to the finish line.
- 30:36Speaker 4: Did you have any misshaps on along the way?
- 30:38Speaker 6: I fell over twice before twenty five miles. Yeah, I
- 30:42Speaker 6: fell over twice in five minutes as well. And one
- 30:45Speaker 6: guy finishing today he's said, and I said, how are
- 30:49Speaker 6: you still running?
- 30:49Speaker 7: I actually heard you hit the.
- 30:51Speaker 6: Dell really, so yeah, I've got some ice bruised elbows
- 30:54Speaker 6: and swollen knees from it.
- 30:56Speaker 1: And I mean the finishes into this stadium, I mean
- 30:59Speaker 1: it's not as if it's jam packed, but there were
- 31:02Speaker 1: some lovely people here to see. Did you know your
- 31:04Speaker 1: family were coming in?
- 31:05Speaker 6: I had asked if my Land was able to come,
- 31:07Speaker 6: because my Land's never been to see me do any
- 31:09Speaker 6: of my big graces because I'm normally.
- 31:11Speaker 7: Away out of town.
- 31:12Speaker 6: So that was really nice that and because of the
- 31:15Speaker 6: time of day that I finished, she was able to
- 31:17Speaker 6: come and make.
- 31:17Speaker 1: It, so that was lovely.
- 31:19Speaker 6: I managed to finish before my husband started work that
- 31:22Speaker 6: he was here, and I knew my kids were here,
- 31:24Speaker 6: but I didn't realize my cousin and my aunty were
- 31:26Speaker 6: coming here.
- 31:27Speaker 4: Ra lovely and there must be such a lift.
- 31:29Speaker 1: I know it's all over, but just to have smiling,
- 31:32Speaker 1: happy faces at the end of the race is So
- 31:35Speaker 1: what's next? The feet up?
- 31:37Speaker 4: Are you going to have a risk now?
- 31:38Speaker 1: But do you kind of switch off from running there
- 31:41Speaker 1: or you've.
- 31:42Speaker 6: No, I'll probably have of a week or Tuesday break,
- 31:46Speaker 6: just do some gentle walk in gentle stretching as part
- 31:48Speaker 6: of my recovery, and then just gradually get back to
- 31:51Speaker 6: running for fun and build him a distance up.
- 31:54Speaker 7: Although I haven't actually got anything else.
- 31:56Speaker 1: But no, I spoke something to come along though, Jody,
- 31:59Speaker 1: you knowing you, I'm sorry, weal well, Jody.
- 32:02Speaker 4: He's been a lovely.
- 32:03Speaker 1: Journey speaking to you and following I've been tracking, tracking
- 32:06Speaker 1: your own and I was up early at six o'clock
- 32:08Speaker 1: tracking and see where you were.
- 32:10Speaker 4: And I'm so pleased that I got here.
- 32:13Speaker 1: And I just people can't get inside the mind of
- 32:16Speaker 1: an Ultra one hundred miler. So you are an amazing person.
- 32:21Speaker 4: And thank you for having a chat.
- 32:22Speaker 6: Thank you for your support, Thank you so much for
- 32:25Speaker 6: coming up today to the finish.
- 32:26Speaker 7: It meant well, Tony.
- 32:27Speaker 4: You're welcome, Jody, thank you.
- 32:29Speaker 2: So there you go.
- 32:30Speaker 1: That was Jody Jody Jackman after an epic one hundred
- 32:33Speaker 1: mile run. She sounded fine, but shortly after that interview
- 32:37Speaker 1: she had and I quote a funny turn, went dizzy
- 32:40Speaker 1: and felt very sick. The medics were on hand, but
- 32:42Speaker 1: they couldn't stabilize her blood pressure, so she was taken
- 32:45Speaker 1: just up the road to from the stadium to the
- 32:48Speaker 1: William Harvey Hospital. After an overnight stage, she recovered and
- 32:52Speaker 1: is currently fine and back running with no side effects.
- 32:55Speaker 4: She's one very tough lady. So we're down to you, Jody.
- 32:58Speaker 4: So there you go.
- 32:58Speaker 1: You know I was looking back through the interviews and
- 33:01Speaker 1: over the year I did thirty interviews in this very studio,
- 33:06Speaker 1: and sometimes there was more than more than one guest
- 33:09Speaker 1: of a two or three a time in here been
- 33:13Speaker 1: a bit manic. So the point is, if you've got
- 33:15Speaker 1: something to tell me about, as soon as you come
- 33:17Speaker 1: through the door in the studio, you can just be
- 33:20Speaker 1: yourself and just talk about your chosen sport and share
- 33:24Speaker 1: and we can share it through the power of radio radio.
- 33:27Speaker 1: Time a bit for a bit more music now, so
- 33:29Speaker 1: we've got the Kooks and a naive.
- 33:31Speaker 4: Listen to this.
- 33:41Speaker 1: Nothing mister Kooks there and a song called a naive. Okay,
- 33:53Speaker 1: so it's time now for some wheelchair basketball news now.
- 33:56Speaker 1: The Folks and Arrows opponents last Saturday, Hero but he
- 34:00Speaker 1: made one hundred and twenty mile journey from Combeton in Cambridgeshire,
- 34:03Speaker 1: but went home with nothing to show as the Arrows
- 34:06Speaker 1: beat them fifty one points to forty three in what
- 34:09Speaker 1: Becky Potter told me was a very close game. Their
- 34:13Speaker 1: next game is away fixed chairs on against Surrey eighty
- 34:17Speaker 1: nine as they're called, So that means a trip to
- 34:20Speaker 1: Guildford on Saturday January fourth, a bit of rugby neues now.
- 34:24Speaker 1: Folks from first fifteen also had a narrow victory when
- 34:27Speaker 1: they traveled to Dullig in South London and came away
- 34:30Speaker 1: with a thirty six points to thirty three win.
- 34:33Speaker 4: Now that is a bit close.
- 34:35Speaker 1: This pushed them up from eight to six in the table.
- 34:38Speaker 1: This Saturday they're at home to Aylesford Bulls. The second
- 34:41Speaker 1: fifteen lost fifty four to seventeen away to Tunbridge Wells
- 34:44Speaker 1: and this week they're there away again. It's their turn
- 34:48Speaker 1: to travel to Aylesford. Okay, some park run updates now
- 34:52Speaker 1: our park run tourists have been at it again. Nine
- 34:55Speaker 1: runners made a three to twenty am start to catch
- 34:58Speaker 1: a seven am flight to Jersey for the Jersey Park
- 35:01Speaker 1: Run and made it just in time despite the early start,
- 35:04Speaker 1: and Nikki Goodwin had a good race. She was the
- 35:07Speaker 1: first lady home and the first lady in her age category.
- 35:10Speaker 1: There was no hanging about after the race. They took
- 35:12Speaker 1: a well deserved lunch then called the flight back home
- 35:15Speaker 1: in time for a night out on the town, so
- 35:17Speaker 1: they tell me. Other local runners visited Warwick Racecourse, Ashford
- 35:23Speaker 1: and Dover Waterfront. However, two local runners found themselves just
- 35:28Speaker 1: forty miles apart on the other side of the world,
- 35:31Speaker 1: as Adam Hughes completed the Gordon Carmichael Reserve Park Run
- 35:35Speaker 1: in a place called Tower Ranger, that's right, and John
- 35:39Speaker 1: O'Hara run the Poarenga Park Run, both of these in
- 35:43Speaker 1: the very north of the New Zealand Northern Ireland. How
- 35:46Speaker 1: amazing is that halfway around the world and they just
- 35:49Speaker 1: forty miles apart. So don't forget this Saturday used to
- 35:52Speaker 1: focus on park runs Tinsel Run, So get your festive
- 35:55Speaker 1: outfits on and come and join us. I'll be on
- 35:58Speaker 1: the bandstand banging out your favorite christ muschunes. That's nine
- 36:01Speaker 1: o'clock on the leaves on Saturday. Okay, we was running
- 36:05Speaker 1: out of time, so we've got a bit of Curiosity.
- 36:07Speaker 4: Killed the Cat.
- 36:11Speaker 2: Weekend out my leg.
- 36:24Speaker 4: Hang on in there, baby.
- 36:27Speaker 1: That was Curiousity killed the Cat when that song was
- 36:31Speaker 1: recorded in twenty ten.
- 36:33Speaker 4: But do you know when the original was recorded?
- 36:36Speaker 1: They is how familiar? I mean as old as I
- 36:38Speaker 1: know this one that was recorded in nineteen seventy four
- 36:41Speaker 1: by a man called Johnny Bristol. Yeah, I'm a bit
- 36:44Speaker 1: of useless trivia for you. Okay, so right, we're running
- 36:48Speaker 1: out of time. Now, I will say that on Saturday
- 36:51Speaker 1: I won't be here, but Adrian will be and he
- 36:54Speaker 1: will have one of our very own radio presenters as
- 36:58Speaker 1: a guest. Now, you've heard these dulcet tones of Stevie
- 37:02Speaker 1: B during the week. But what I didn't though, I
- 37:04Speaker 1: found out speaking to him was that he's got a
- 37:07Speaker 1: fantastic history in table tennis and we've pinned him down
- 37:12Speaker 1: and he's going to come in.
- 37:13Speaker 4: Yeah, he's got his own key.
- 37:14Speaker 1: He's going to let himself in and join Adria and
- 37:16Speaker 1: on Saturday, and so you can find out the other
- 37:20Speaker 1: side of Steviebe. And it's quite a cv. He's got
- 37:23Speaker 1: of a table tennis So you want to tune in.
- 37:26Speaker 1: That's ten o'clock between ten and eleven on Saturday morning,
- 37:29Speaker 1: the Asian Dogs Saturday Sports Show, and he'd be catching
- 37:33Speaker 1: up with a lot of local football. What that's about
- 37:36Speaker 1: it from me? Now, I'll be back on Monday, believe
- 37:39Speaker 1: you or not, Monday one to two pm, where my
- 37:42Speaker 1: special guests will be Kirsty Holmes from the k M
- 37:45Speaker 1: Dance School with three of the young dancers to tell
- 37:48Speaker 1: me what they've been up to since they came into
- 37:50Speaker 1: the studio about this time last year. I've got a
- 37:54Speaker 1: busy weekend for me. I am on Saturday, I'm up
- 37:57Speaker 1: at the park Run. I'll be on the bandstand dressed
- 37:59Speaker 1: up his father Christmas, playing lots of Christmas stuff. I'll
- 38:02Speaker 1: be on the PA focusing in Victor against Dartford on
- 38:05Speaker 1: Saturday afternoon, then on the mic at the new Nice
- 38:08Speaker 1: Work Christmas Cracker Race at BET's Hanger Park on Sunday.
- 38:13Speaker 1: So if you are at one of them, then please
- 38:15Speaker 1: do no more and come over and say hello radio.
- 38:19Speaker 1: So that's it for me, so oh ca chat with
- 38:22Speaker 1: you next time.
