- 0:26I'm going to bring in Dr. Andy Woods, and today we're going to go back and refresh your
- 0:30memory on who the heck was this king named Cyrus and why on earth, are there any comparisons
- 0:39between Cyrus and President Trump?
- 0:41We're going to get to that and talk about world peace and Israel and the Middle East and
- 0:45all these other things.
- 0:47But I do need to remind you, believe it or not, we're in our third year now producing
- 0:52world view matters.
- 0:53We're amazed at how it's taken off, praise God, it's not me, it's God in you.

- 1:43Let's open it up today out of the box, brand new.
- 1:45So please visit worldviewmatters.tv and either way we appreciate your prayers.
- 1:53That's the most important thing, your prayers and sharing and helping us get out there.
- 1:58So praise God, Jesus is Lord and you're really helping us.
- 2:03So thank you.
- 2:04So Dr. Andy Woods, Andy Woods Ministries, he's also got an outstanding YouTube channel.
- 2:10You can get his pastor's point of view on there.
- 2:13So Andy Woods Ministries dot org brother.
- 2:15Thanks for your time today.
- 2:16No, it's going to go by fast.
- 2:17So welcome.
- 2:18David Joy to be here as always.
- 2:21Thank you.
- 2:22Thank you, sir.
- 2:23All right.
- 2:24So this was in a recent pastor's point of view that you did.
- 2:28Very important topic on the peace treaty, but Donald Trump is being compared to Persian
- 2:34ruler Cyrus the Great in billboards in Israel after the historic Gaza peace deal.
- 2:43And as we talked about before, we got on the podcast terrorists are not known for keeping
- 2:51their promises and their world view is likely not going to change as far as wanting to
- 2:56wipe Israel off the map.
- 2:58So let's start with your overall take, Andy, on what's going on over there and just
- 3:04give us some speculation on what you see or where you expect it to go from this point.
- 3:09Well, as far as the peace treaty is concerned, I mean, obviously we're all thrilled that
- 3:16the hostages have been released, but you know, having said that that looks like there's
- 3:21already some of the bargain that Hamas is not acquiescing to.
- 3:27I think they're supposed to give us the remains, are they not of the deceased?
- 3:33And I think there's 13 bodies, you know, unaccounted for.
- 3:37And then there's some speculation as to whether or not, you know, we're getting the actual
- 3:41bodies that they killed.
- 3:44So yeah, I'm real happy that the hostages have been released, but that's pretty, that's
- 3:49about it.
- 3:50I don't have any real optimism that this is going to be some kind of lasting arrangement.
- 3:57I was a bit uncomfortable when Trump used the expression eternal peace.
- 4:02And the reason I'm uncomfortable with that is I think God has designed that region
- 4:08like a jigsaw puzzle that can't be solved by a human being.
- 4:13So when it gets finally resolved permanently in the millennial kingdom, you know, he,
- 4:18the principle piece gets the glory for it.
- 4:22So you can't take a value system out of people's hearts just by signing a piece of paper.
- 4:30So I think what's happened is it's kind of like a band-aid, which covers a wound, but
- 4:36it doesn't heal a wound.
- 4:38And there's the, there's the roots of everlasting hatred that Islam has towards the Jewish people
- 4:43and the nation of Israel.
- 4:46And in fact, when you listen to the words of someone named the son of Hamas, his last
- 4:50name is Yusuf, he says Hamas has no vocabulary word for peace relative to Israel.
- 4:59The only thing they know is truce, which is like a maximum of 14 years.
- 5:05So truce, temporary, yes, lasting peace, no, but I'm very happy that the hostage has
- 5:11been released.
- 5:12Yeah, it's interesting used word everlasting, everlasting hatred toward Israel.
- 5:17And we read in the Bible that God established an everlasting covenant with Israel.
- 5:24One of them is going to give and we know which one eventually, right?
- 5:28And that's, we'll get to that.
- 5:30But this whole idea of Trump and Cyrus, let's go back now to Isaiah 45, where it starts
- 5:39up.
- 5:40I mean, God uses Cyrus.
- 5:43He called Cyrus his anointed in the scriptures, Andy.
- 5:47And a lot of people, maybe they aren't familiar with this, we're going, well, what's
- 5:50the big deal?
- 5:51Well, Cyrus was a pagan king.
- 5:52So could you please give us some context and background before we talk about the comparison?
- 5:58Well, Cyrus is a man of prophetic destiny because God in the prophet Isaiah calls out his
- 6:06name, you know, 150 years to 200 years in advance.
- 6:12I mean, it would be like saying at the dawn of America, calling out the name Ronald Reagan,
- 6:17you know, one day is going to be one of our presidents.
- 6:20And that's what Isaiah does.
- 6:22Liberals freak out about this and they try to say Isaiah couldn't have known that.
- 6:28And so someone other than Isaiah, you know, wrote that, which is your typical line in liberalism.
- 6:33But if people go to the end of chapter 44 of Isaiah, they'll see Cyrus's name.
- 6:39And then they go to the first few verses of chapter 45, they'll see Cyrus's name.
- 6:44And you're right.
- 6:45Cyrus was someone that didn't know God.
- 6:48You see that in chapter 45 verse four where God says of Cyrus, roughly 150 years in advance,
- 6:56though you did not know me yet at the same time.
- 7:00God selected Cyrus to play a pivotal role in Israel's history.
- 7:05Cyrus of Persia would be the one who would conquer the Babylonians.
- 7:10Remember, it was the Babylonians that took the southern kingdom away into captivity for
- 7:1670 years.
- 7:18And going back to Daniel's prophecy of the statue in Daniel chapter two that Nebuchadnezzar
- 7:24and Daniel saw, the head of gold would be Babylon, the chest and arms of silver would
- 7:29be the Persians.
- 7:32So the Persians would overthrow the Babylonians.
- 7:34That happened in Daniel chapter five.
- 7:38And then Isaiah 150 to 200 years in advance says Cyrus through the Persians would be a
- 7:44character that God would sovereignly use to release the nation from the 70 year captivity,
- 7:51you know, that the Babylonians had initiated.
- 7:56And so that's really the significance of Cyrus.
- 7:58And that's why Israelis today, when some foreign king like Trump helps them, whether it
- 8:06be the relocation of their embassy, the annexation of the Golan Heights or what he's done recently
- 8:15relative to the 20 or 21 point peace plan, they look at such a character as a Cyrus.
- 8:22And so that's why there are these billboards appearing all over Israel calling Trump Cyrus.
- 8:28That's why Netanyahu called Trump Cyrus all the way back in 2018.
- 8:34And one other quick point on Cyrus is there's actually something in archaeology called the
- 8:40Cyrus cylinder, which is a sort of, it's sort of an inscription of Cyrus's boasts and
- 8:48how easily he conquered Babylon without even so much as a battle.
- 8:53And that highlights what happened there in Daniel chapter five.
- 8:57So that's the significance of this guy.
- 8:59Cyrus, I don't know if we're going to see him in heaven, I hope we will.
- 9:03We don't have any indication he ever became a believer, but you know, God is sovereign
- 9:08and he can use unbelieving pagan Gentile kings to accomplish his purposes.
- 9:13In this case, being the shepherd, you know, that would release the southern kingdom from
- 9:19the 70 year Babylonian captivity.
- 9:21Thank you, Andy.
- 9:23And I just really want to emphasize in Isaiah 45, 44, 45, it's not just an allusion to
- 9:30a future king.
- 9:33This name Cyrus is in the scriptures.
- 9:36I just want to make sure people understand that.
- 9:38It really is amazing, but the versus you mentioned verse four and five, it says for the sake
- 9:44of Jacob, my servant and Israel, my chosen one, I have also called you by your name.
- 9:50I've given you a title of honor, though you have not known me talking about Cyrus.
- 9:57And I am the Lord and there is no other besides me, there is no God and it goes on.
- 10:01But okay, so the comparisons, Andy, I know when a president Trump moved the embassy,
- 10:08US embassy to Jerusalem, that was a huge deal.
- 10:13But this piece, I guess peace was more impressive to a lot of people, which brought on more
- 10:18Cyrus comparisons, just your, your thought on where we are now with the peace, hopefully
- 10:25that they're going to still try to work out, but we know it's not going to be lasting.
- 10:29Well, really the bottom line with this whole thing is Jesus 2000 years ago in John chapter
- 10:35five, I want to say around verse 43, said of Israel, I come in my father's name and you
- 10:46won't receive me, but there's coming one in his own name and him you will receive.
- 10:53And most people commentators, myself included believe he's making a statement there of
- 10:58their reception, you know, of the coming antichrist.
- 11:03So in essence, Israel 2000 years ago, nationally having rejected their true king, who was
- 11:09right there in their midst, is now open to almost anyone who comes along and promises
- 11:17to guarantee their peace and security.
- 11:20And don't get me wrong, I'm not calling Trump the antichrist, I, I'm a Trump guy, I'm
- 11:25Trump supporter.
- 11:27But what I'm saying is there's a psychology in place that the Bible predicted 2000 years
- 11:32ago that when you reject the true king, you're open to anybody that's going to help you.
- 11:38And Israel is in a very delicate, desperate position.
- 11:42She's about the size of New Jersey.
- 11:45She's surrounded by Islamic, theocratic dictatorships that are determined based on their own
- 11:52charters to drive Israel into the Mediterranean Sea.
- 11:57And so anybody that comes alongside and wants to help them, they're going to look at as a
- 12:00Cyrus type figure, a gold, a mayor all the way back in 1973, when she placed that phone
- 12:09call to Richard Nixon in the middle of the night.
- 12:11And he helped her with armaments and things during the Yom Kapoor war.
- 12:18She had the same sentiments.
- 12:19I don't know if she used the word Cyrus, but she had the same sentiments about Nixon.
- 12:24And those are the same sentiments that Israel has towards Trump today.
- 12:28And one of these days, there's going to come an anti-Christ who's going to really do
- 12:33much better than anything Trump could give Israel in terms of a lasting solution.
- 12:39And they're going to look at him as a Cyrus too, but they're going to be grossly disappointed
- 12:44because that anti-Christ is going to betray them midway through the tribulation period.
- 12:50And this is part of the process that has to happen to open up Israel's eyes nationally
- 12:57that her true Messiah is not Trump, it's not Richard Nixon, it's not the anti-Christ,
- 13:02it's actually Jesus Christ, who they nationally rejected 2,000 years ago.
- 13:07Amen.
- 13:09In the article, it also says Cyrus, the great was an early proponent of religious freedom.
- 13:16I didn't know that.
- 13:17And can you tell us more about that Andy, what do you know about Cyrus in that respect?
- 13:23Well, everything I know about Cyrus, he was a polytheist, but basically he worshiped
- 13:29many gods.
- 13:30And this is actually the reason why he was able to, and this is the boast in that
- 13:38Cyrus cylinder conquer Babylon without even so much as a battle.
- 13:43And he was very careful with the Babylonian deities.
- 13:48He let them remain in their own little separate Babylonian habitats and temples.
- 13:54Even though Babylon had come under Persian authority and jurisdiction all the way back
- 14:01in the month of October, actually, 539 BC.
- 14:05And so that's who Cyrus was.
- 14:08He was a polytheist, he respected all religions because he worshipped all kinds of gods.
- 14:13And so I think that's part of the parallels with Trump.
- 14:17I mean, he's not looking to go over there and impose America over Israel.
- 14:23He wants to let them live however they want to live.
- 14:27And from that standpoint, I support that because the worst thing you can do is try to enforce
- 14:34your own definition of religion on somebody else that never works.
- 14:39We in the West don't do that.
- 14:40That's what Islam does, but we don't do that.
- 14:43So that's another part of the interesting parallel that people are drawing between
- 14:48Trump and Cyrus.
- 14:50And yet, Andy Woods, we would be accused of wanting a theocracy in America.
- 14:56The left does this all the time.
- 14:57It's a straw man argument where they're saying, we want to force our religion, you know,
- 15:02when they want to argue for it to keep Christianity out of the public square.
- 15:05And as you are so well known for saying the second biggest lie in America, the separation
- 15:11of church and state, you know, they would accuse us even recently of wanting a theocracy.
- 15:16How do you, you know, I mean, some of its ignorance, some of its, some people really
- 15:20believe that though, don't they?
- 15:23Well with the left and with Islam accusing us of that, I think it's, what are the psychologists
- 15:30call that projectionism or something, it's, it's, or transference, I guess is maybe
- 15:37the better word.
- 15:38Or transfer on to somebody else.
- 15:41What you really want to do.
- 15:43I mean, it's, it's the left that wants to take our kids and educate them against the
- 15:48value system of the parents.
- 15:51Yeah.
- 15:52So they have no problem imposing their humanistic theocracy on everybody else.
- 15:59So I think as the Bible says, where the spirit of the Lord is, there is, is liberty.
- 16:07You know, the more Christian, authentic Christianity spreads, the more this kind of idea
- 16:11of freedom of religion spreads as well.
- 16:14But you know, could I go to Marxist country or a Muslim country today and start a church?
- 16:20I mean, obviously not, I'd be under immediate persecution.
- 16:24So I think with the left and Islam, it's kind of a case of projectionism or transference
- 16:29when they accuse us of what they want to do.
- 16:32Exactly.
- 16:33So to keep this going now, back to Revelation chapter six, you shared verses one through four.
- 16:42I want to want to look at three and four where it talks about the second seal.
- 16:48And John says, I heard the second living creature saying, come and another, a red horse
- 16:54because the white horse came first and then the red horse came and went out and to him
- 16:58who sat on it, it was granted to take peace from the earth and that men would slay one
- 17:06another and a great sword was given to him.
- 17:08Can you explain the context to that in light of, you know, people wanting peace, peace,
- 17:13peace and safety, peace and security?
- 17:15Yeah.
- 17:16First, Estloneans five, verse three, talking about the same era time period says while
- 17:24they are saying peace and safety, sudden destruction comes upon them, you know, as a woman
- 17:31in labor.
- 17:32And the reason I toss those verses in is I'm trying to get people to see that, bibliically
- 17:38speaking, you're not going to have lasting peace.
- 17:42I don't care what kind of deal you come up with and who signs it and what people promise
- 17:49that they're going to do.
- 17:51Every human being that says they're bringing in eternal peace is obviously operating in
- 17:58a way that's unbiblical because the Bible is very clear that even when the antichrist
- 18:03comes and gives them the best deal they've ever had, it's short lived.
- 18:09So that's why I look at these sort of as much as I'm happy about the hostages being
- 18:13released.
- 18:14I look at these peace treaties with a heavy dose of skepticism.
- 18:19Maybe I should just say a healthy dose of skepticism.
- 18:23Yes.
- 18:24Because bibliically what we're told is wars are determined until the true Prince of Peace
- 18:29shows up.
- 18:31And then that jigsaw puzzle in the region will get resolved and he'll get the glory,
- 18:35not some, you know, mad-made scenario.
- 18:40And the government will be on his shoulders and hear that every Christmas from the verse
- 18:44in Isaiah.
- 18:46So Andy, let's transition now to the church and there's two articles that you shared
- 18:52about on your pastor's point of view that really go hand in hand, I believe.
- 18:55One is on mega churches in a way and the other one is on biblical illiteracy.
- 19:00So let's go to the first one, a mega church pastor claims that 30 minute sermons are
- 19:06too long for modern audiences.
- 19:10Well, there's so much wrong with that, but just share your thoughts.
- 19:16Well, I mean, there's a lot to say about that.
- 19:23Probably I would just say this, when you go down that road, you pay a price.
- 19:28There's a price to be paid.
- 19:30And if you get 20 minutes of Bible, which is what he's arguing for in that peace, it was
- 19:36actually an Instagram video that he made.
- 19:40And it's interesting, these guys, they're not just telling you what they're doing in their
- 19:43church, they're trying to convince everybody else what you should do in your church.
- 19:49And so he's kind of lambasting preachers by saying we preach too long.
- 19:54You know, the issue isn't we and the issue isn't the preacher, the issue is the primacy
- 19:59of the Word of God.
- 20:02And I'm reminded of what is it, Nehemiah chapter eight, where Ezra read from the law,
- 20:07the people were standing, Ezra was there raised above people, and they were there, I think
- 20:13from morning to midday, and a spiritual reformation revival came out of that.
- 20:21And so it's kind of like what my basketball coach used to tell me in high school about
- 20:26the weight room and conditioning.
- 20:29He says, look, you're going to get out of it, what you put into it.
- 20:32And you get you get 20 minutes of Bible, you're going to get 20 minutes of Christianity.
- 20:38And that's not that's not enough to get our country back on the right path.
- 20:45Some have put it this way.
- 20:46The problem with the Bible belt is we don't have enough Bible under our belt.
- 20:51And we need to get back to the Bible, the whole Bible and nothing but the Bible or else
- 20:55it's just churches that are going to be a mile wide and an inch deep as the saying goes.
- 21:01We're just going to have, you know, sermons for Christian nets and we're just not going
- 21:06to be able to stand up under the type of persecution that I think is coming.
- 21:09And unfortunately, not all mega churches have that philosophy, but I think that's kind
- 21:15of part of the model where the pastor is the CEO and they have several services or locations
- 21:21and the sermons are short 20 minutes.
- 21:23And as you said, when you were talking about that, it reminded me of the hours of influence,
- 21:28that concept of, if you just have an hour, but they're not even talking about an hour,
- 21:32it's 20 minutes, 20 minutes sermon from the Word of God.
- 21:37And you've got all of this coming against you in culture, especially if you're a young
- 21:43person, social media, Hollywood, corporations, government.
- 21:49If most of your friends are probably non-believers or atheists, where are you going to get the
- 21:54truth?
- 21:55Where are you going to get any Bible teaching or exposition and it's just so sad for a church
- 22:02leader or pastor, mega church or any other to say something like that.
- 22:07And that goes along with we've got five minutes left, Andy, with this other article over
- 22:12at CBN News, put this out.
- 22:14Most church goers don't think scripture is clear about sexuality.
- 22:18Well, I'm thinking, okay, you either haven't read the Bible for yourself or your pastor
- 22:26is not teaching on all the whole council of God on this.
- 22:31So this one gets me because I'm thinking, okay, if you think most church goers, it says.
- 22:37So Andy, I need to calm down.
- 22:39I'll just let you share about this.
- 22:41This is ridiculous.
- 22:42Yeah, as you kind of move through the generations from older to younger, I mean, it's pointing
- 22:48out these surveys and things that as the, as the group gets younger and younger and
- 22:54younger, it's, it's like they don't think the Bible's clear about the transgender issue.
- 23:00They don't think the Bible's clear about the homosexual issue.
- 23:04They don't think the Bible's clear about the LGBTQUI plus issue.
- 23:10And it's sort of like, you know, have you read the first chapter?
- 23:14I mean, God made them male and female.
- 23:19Those, that's two genders.
- 23:21And he said, be fruitful and multiply.
- 23:24That's hetero sexual monogamy.
- 23:28And he says, you know, a man shall leave his mother and father and cleave to his wife
- 23:34and the two shall become one.
- 23:38And Jesus later quoting those verses about the whole issue of divorce, remarriage and
- 23:43all of those subjects goes right back to the blueprint of God.
- 23:47And he says, what God has joined together, let man not set a sunder.
- 23:51So if you're going to tell me those things are unclear, I mean, the nothing in the Bible
- 23:57is clear.
- 23:58And so these things are kind of bellweathers concerning basic biblical literacy, basic
- 24:06biblical understanding.
- 24:08And you cannot apply into your life what you don't know.
- 24:12I mean, knowledge is not a last step, excuse me, knowledge is not a first step.
- 24:18It's a last step.
- 24:19You have to apply knowledge, but you can't apply something you don't know.
- 24:22And so this type of these type of statistics are troubling.
- 24:26And as much as everybody today is saying, we're in the middle of a spiritual revival.
- 24:30I mean, I, I hope we are, but these numb, if we were really in a spiritual revival,
- 24:36these numbers would go be going the opposite direction.
- 24:39And maybe there's time for that.
- 24:41I'm encouraged by what I'm seeing among the youth, especially generation Z. I think
- 24:45we missed opportunities to reach millennials for Christ and the truth.
- 24:49But our society culture got so screwed up, Gen Z is going, there's got to be more to this.
- 24:54But they're actually open to truth.
- 24:55I think in seeking for maybe religion, maybe for answers.
- 24:59But one quote from this article, we've got two and a half minutes left, Andy.
- 25:03Finally, this is a gospel moment in the wake of Charlie Kirk's assassination.
- 25:08For example, many young people are entering our churches, searching for truth, stability
- 25:13and hope.
- 25:14And the big question is, what will they find in American churches?
- 25:19Andy, just a minute or two, wrap us up on that.
- 25:21Well, if that sentence is right, now is our golden moment to shine.
- 25:29The problem is, are they going to come to church and find a light show and a TED talk?
- 25:34Mass, you know, mass grading is as church.
- 25:37Or are they going to find what God has designed the church to be?
- 25:43First Timothy 3 verse 15, I believe it is, the foundation and the pillar of truth.
- 25:49I mean, if these youth are looking for stability, security, now is our moment to shine.
- 25:55I'm just wondering if we're up to the task.
- 25:58Oh, Lord help us.
- 26:01I'm skeptical, but God can do all things and with God, all things are possible.
- 26:09So as someone said earlier today, I was talking to someone, God didn't hit a home run
- 26:14with a crooked stick or something like that.
- 26:17Anyway, yes, so God can do it, but man, our churches are not prepared, but this is a
- 26:22moment to get ready because young people are searching.
- 26:25We've seen the growth, the crazy growth in Bible sales and more people getting back to
- 26:30church and even Christian music, a lot of things, but hopefully they're not going to the
- 26:36wrong places.
- 26:37But that's out of our hands.
- 26:38God's sovereignty though, right, even if the gospel is preached vaguely, they can still
- 26:44get it.
- 26:45If they're reading the Bible, hopefully they are.
- 26:47And I appreciate your ministry, again, friends, Andy Woods, ministries.org and look up
- 26:52his pastor's point of view on YouTube, you can also find him on his website there.
- 26:59There it is.
- 27:00Brother, thanks for your time.
- 27:01We appreciate your voice and your commentary.
- 27:03Thank you very much.
- 27:04David, great to be here.
- 27:06Thanks for having me.
- 27:07And most welcome, sir.
- 27:08All right, guys, so much more we could have gotten to, but man, it's a challenge with
- 27:13the shorter podcast.
- 27:14But here we go.
- 27:15We'll keep it going.
- 27:16Thanks to you and your support and prayers.
- 27:18God bless you.
- 27:19And as always, keep speaking the truth about things that matter.
