Transcript
- 0:03Speaker 1: We have not a moment to lose, because Justin Haskins
- 0:07Speaker 1: joins us for the third hour here this morning. It
- 0:10Speaker 1: is Tuesday, August the twelfth. Can't believe it, Christmas already
- 0:15Speaker 1: hitting some of the stores. It's crazy. Before you know it,
- 0:19Speaker 1: it'll be here and then a new year will be here.
- 0:23Speaker 1: But great to be with you, ruminators. That's Jose. I'm Preston,
- 0:26Speaker 1: and here is Justin Haskins of the Heartland Institute, the
- 0:30Speaker 1: website Stoppingsocialism dot com, writing books with Glenn Beck writing
- 0:35Speaker 1: in general, justin, how are you?
- 0:38Speaker 2: I'm doing well, how are you?
- 0:40Speaker 1: Did you ever think stoppingsocialism dot com would become so
- 0:46Speaker 1: crucially important to a mayoral election in maybe the largest
- 0:51Speaker 1: city in America?
- 0:55Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I did. I actually saw all of this
- 0:58Speaker 2: coming many years ago, not specifically in New York City.
- 1:03Speaker 2: Although the whole project for Stopping Socialism we have a
- 1:07Speaker 2: Stopping Socialism TV channel by the way, on YouTube as well.
- 1:11Speaker 2: You could check that out.
- 1:11Speaker 1: Okay.
- 1:12Speaker 2: The whole project was started as a reaction to Alexandria
- 1:18Speaker 2: O Kazio Cortez winning her primary way back in twenty eighteen.
- 1:23Speaker 2: That was sort of the genesis of this idea, and
- 1:26Speaker 2: it was because we saw when you actually it wasn't
- 1:31Speaker 2: just a New York thing. It was everywhere when you
- 1:33Speaker 2: actually start looking at polling data, especially among younger people socialism.
- 1:39Speaker 2: It depends on how you ask the question, but it's
- 1:41Speaker 2: very clear when you try to get to the heart
- 1:43Speaker 2: of it. Socialism is very popular amongst younger people and
- 1:49Speaker 2: the next generation when they become the primary voting generation,
- 1:54Speaker 2: it's going to be a huge problem for this country.
- 1:57Speaker 2: And that was the idea behind stopping socialism and the
- 2:02Speaker 2: whole project that we build around it. Like I said,
- 2:05Speaker 2: the videos, the website, We've done a lot of speeches
- 2:08Speaker 2: and books and all kinds of stuff. So just it's
- 2:12Speaker 2: it's vitally important. I mean just absolutely vitally important.
- 2:16Speaker 1: Has visitation to the website gone up since mom Donnie
- 2:19Speaker 1: won the primary.
- 2:22Speaker 2: I don't know if we'll ever reach the heights of
- 2:25Speaker 2: the Bernie Sanders presidential near presidential win. I think that
- 2:30Speaker 2: that was probably the height of it. But I think
- 2:32Speaker 2: we're going to see it skyrocket even more than what
- 2:36Speaker 2: we've seen in the past in this next upcoming presidential election,
- 2:41Speaker 2: because I think the socialists are going to make a
- 2:44Speaker 2: real play for the Democratic Party primary. I don't know
- 2:48Speaker 2: who that person is going to be. It could be AOC,
- 2:51Speaker 2: could be somebody else. It could be a Bernie Sanders
- 2:54Speaker 2: AOC ticket or something like that, because Bernie's too old
- 2:57Speaker 2: to be on the top of it. But I I
- 3:00Speaker 2: think we're going to see another chance for the Democratic
- 3:04Speaker 2: Socialists to have a presidential candidate at top of that ticket.
- 3:08Speaker 2: Are there something we're going to see it really soon?
- 3:10Speaker 1: Are there some deep pockets that would put some ads
- 3:12Speaker 1: for your website on? Say, oh, I don't know the
- 3:14Speaker 1: Times Square Electric billboard.
- 3:18Speaker 2: Well, we're working on it. We're working on it, and
- 3:20Speaker 2: that would be awesome if we could pull that off.
- 3:23Speaker 1: Yeah, it would, Yeah, it would. I just wanted to
- 3:26Speaker 1: make sure we talked about that site because we haven't
- 3:29Speaker 1: in a while, and it's a very First of all,
- 3:32Speaker 1: it's a very well done site. It's a great site
- 3:35Speaker 1: for parents to cruise around with their kids and start
- 3:38Speaker 1: introducing them to the fundamental basic concepts of socialism and
- 3:42Speaker 1: why it is so bad for our country.
- 3:46Speaker 2: Yes, thank you very much. Yeah, we put a lot
- 3:48Speaker 2: of work on it. There's hundreds of articles on there.
- 3:50Speaker 2: Some of them are more news oriented, stuff, but a
- 3:53Speaker 2: lot of it is the articles about the basics of
- 3:58Speaker 2: what socialism is, why it doesn't work. We don't use
- 4:02Speaker 2: any straw mans. We use the arguments that real socialists
- 4:07Speaker 2: make themselves, and we interact with those. Some of the
- 4:10Speaker 2: articles are short, some are very long, And like I said,
- 4:13Speaker 2: we've got a whole bunch of videos on YouTube as well,
- 4:16Speaker 2: stopping socials and TV where we deal with all kinds
- 4:19Speaker 2: of different things, topical news of the day type stuff,
- 4:22Speaker 2: but also again like the evergreen basics of combating against socialism.
- 4:28Speaker 2: Now more than ever, this is a huge, huge problem.
- 4:31Speaker 2: I think a lot of Americans sought on the right
- 4:33Speaker 2: that it was kind of dying out after the last
- 4:36Speaker 2: round of AOC nonsense you know, several years ago, and
- 4:40Speaker 2: the Green New Deal got rejected in all of that.
- 4:42Speaker 2: But I don't think that's going to be the case.
- 4:44Speaker 2: As we're seeing in New York City and elsewhere, Minneapolis
- 4:47Speaker 2: and other places. This is a huge, huge problem moving forward,
- 4:51Speaker 2: and it's only going to get worse as the AI
- 4:54Speaker 2: revolution starts to take more and more jobs. I think
- 4:56Speaker 2: that's going to be a huge issue as well.
- 5:00Speaker 1: What is the best thing that's going to come out
- 5:04Speaker 1: of or has come out of the One Big Beautiful Bill.
- 5:09Speaker 2: I think the easiest one that you could look to
- 5:12Speaker 2: is the border security funding a massive amount of money
- 5:16Speaker 2: for border security, more ice agents, I mean, more border
- 5:23Speaker 2: walls and things like that. I mean, I never thought
- 5:27Speaker 2: that that was going to happen in my lifetime. To
- 5:29Speaker 2: be totally on you, I just did not think it
- 5:32Speaker 2: was ever going to happen. So I think that's that's
- 5:35Speaker 2: probably one of the biggest things. Economically, The biggest victory
- 5:40Speaker 2: was extending the tax cuts. That was so absolutely vital.
- 5:45Speaker 2: I think they made a mistake actually putting that in
- 5:47Speaker 2: the Big Beautiful Bill. I think that just should have
- 5:49Speaker 2: been a standalone thing on its own. But that was
- 5:53Speaker 2: if we hadn't If the tax cuts from twenty seventeen
- 5:57Speaker 2: were not extended, the personal tax cuts, they were set
- 5:59Speaker 2: to expire at the end of this year, if they
- 6:01Speaker 2: were not extended in this bill, the economy would have
- 6:05Speaker 2: for sure crashed. There's just no question about it. The
- 6:09Speaker 2: economy would have crashed, everyone's taxes would have gone up.
- 6:12Speaker 2: It would have been catastrophic. So that was absolutely necessary.
- 6:16Speaker 2: So to me, those are the two big victories, the
- 6:17Speaker 2: border security and making sure that the tax cuts were extended.
- 6:21Speaker 1: Is the border such an issue at this point even
- 6:24Speaker 1: with Democrats except for the extreme loonies. Even with Democrats, though,
- 6:29Speaker 1: that issue pulls real strongly that we've got to control
- 6:33Speaker 1: our border. Do you think that is sufficient enough to
- 6:36Speaker 1: keep it that way, keep it secured, even if Democrats
- 6:41Speaker 1: were to control Congress in the White House.
- 6:44Speaker 2: No, Okay, no, I don't think so. And the reason
- 6:47Speaker 2: why is because a lot of the problems that we
- 6:50Speaker 2: had on the border were not just that there was
- 6:54Speaker 2: not a lot of good security there at times in
- 6:58Speaker 2: certain places. It was that the policies surrounding it with
- 7:03Speaker 2: giving people, allowing people to claim asylum and say that
- 7:09Speaker 2: they're being persecuted when obviously a lot of them were
- 7:12Speaker 2: not really being persecuted, and then that being used as
- 7:16Speaker 2: a way to just let people into the country, millions
- 7:18Speaker 2: of people, even if they were caught, even if they
- 7:21Speaker 2: went to the border, and they were so under a
- 7:23Speaker 2: democratic president that that law is still an option for them.
- 7:27Speaker 2: They can still interpret the law that way. The Trump
- 7:29Speaker 2: administration is not, but the next president could, and in
- 7:33Speaker 2: those cases they literally will just let people in. It
- 7:36Speaker 2: doesn't matter what the border security is you just walk
- 7:40Speaker 2: up to the border and you say, I claim asylum
- 7:42Speaker 2: and then they let you in. So it's it's a
- 7:45Speaker 2: that's a huge, huge part of the problem, and some
- 7:49Speaker 2: of that is, you know, hopefully going to be fixed.
- 7:52Speaker 2: But really I think that there are ways around all
- 7:57Speaker 2: of these things, and Congress did not rune ironclad protections.
- 8:02Speaker 2: We still need an immigration reform bill in Congress. We
- 8:07Speaker 2: really haven't gotten that.
- 8:09Speaker 1: What's the worst that's come out of the first seven
- 8:13Speaker 1: months of the Trump administration?
- 8:16Speaker 2: What is the worst? Okay, well, I think there's a
- 8:21Speaker 2: couple of things. I think long term, I'm going to
- 8:24Speaker 2: give you kind of an off the wall answer in
- 8:26Speaker 2: a second. My short answer is spending in government debt
- 8:31Speaker 2: and all of that. That is a crisis that has
- 8:35Speaker 2: not even there's not even an attempt to try to
- 8:37Speaker 2: solve it. And I'm not surprised because the Trump administration
- 8:41Speaker 2: did not try to solve it the first time around.
- 8:43Speaker 2: Either they're not going to do it now. We need
- 8:45Speaker 2: entitlement reforms in order to fix that problem, and Congress
- 8:49Speaker 2: doesn't want to do that both sides, and so we
- 8:52Speaker 2: are going to continue going down this road where our
- 8:56Speaker 2: economy is going to becoming more and more dependent on debt.
- 8:59Speaker 2: The affects the interest rates, It affects every in the
- 9:04Speaker 2: interest rates, effect the housing market, it affects everything. And
- 9:07Speaker 2: so this is a huge crisis level problem for US,
- 9:12Speaker 2: and there is no effort in Washington to fix it.
- 9:15Speaker 2: So that's my short answer.
- 9:19Speaker 1: Justin Haskins gave us a brilliant tease for this final segment.
- 9:23Speaker 1: He said, I've got an idea that is out there
- 9:26Speaker 1: just a little bit. And when I asked him in
- 9:28Speaker 1: the break, I also want to talk about the one
- 9:31Speaker 1: thing that people are not discussing that's not on their
- 9:34Speaker 1: radar that should be he said, it's the same thing.
- 9:36Speaker 1: So justin go, Yeah.
- 9:39Speaker 2: There was a law that was passed very recently led
- 9:44Speaker 2: Donald Trump with a big supporter of it. A lot
- 9:46Speaker 2: of Republicans in Congress were advocates for it called the
- 9:49Speaker 2: Genius Act, and the Genius Act one of the main
- 9:52Speaker 2: things that it was doing was trying to regulate something
- 9:55Speaker 2: called stable coins, put a government stamp of approval stable coins,
- 10:01Speaker 2: increase regulations on stable coins. Stable Coins are a kind
- 10:04Speaker 2: of cryptocurrency, so like bitcoin and stuff like that, except
- 10:09Speaker 2: their value is tied. It's pegged to something stable, so
- 10:14Speaker 2: in this case the dollar. So the way it works
- 10:17Speaker 2: is essentially a cryptocurrency that is equal to always a dollar.
- 10:23Speaker 2: So it's a way to use to have a digital
- 10:27Speaker 2: dollar without actually having the government create a digital dollar. Now,
- 10:33Speaker 2: the legislation that they put into place, the reason Republicans
- 10:37Speaker 2: like it is because there's a lot of advantages to
- 10:40Speaker 2: having a digital currency, but they don't want the government
- 10:43Speaker 2: in charge of it or the set in charge of
- 10:45Speaker 2: it for a lot of reasons that we can all
- 10:47Speaker 2: imagine as conservatives. We it's way too much power in
- 10:50Speaker 2: their hands. The problem is the people who are behind,
- 10:56Speaker 2: not all of them, but many of the people behind
- 10:58Speaker 2: the biggest stable coin companies out there right now, there's
- 11:02Speaker 2: already hundreds of billions of dollars worth of stable coins
- 11:06Speaker 2: out there. Are the great Reset people, They're the Davos people.
- 11:11Speaker 2: It's Blackrock and companies like that that are the big
- 11:14Speaker 2: owners of these things. And these are the people who
- 11:18Speaker 2: were just trying to silence conservatives, destroy the fossil fuel industry,
- 11:23Speaker 2: force esg down everyone's throats, and now they are the
- 11:27Speaker 2: key people behind what is essentially a government approved quasi
- 11:34Speaker 2: digital dollar that can be tracked and traced and controlled.
- 11:40Speaker 2: They can tell you what you can spend it on
- 11:41Speaker 2: and what you can't spend it on. And as institutions
- 11:45Speaker 2: adopt this more and more and more, which is far
- 11:47Speaker 2: more likely now that the government has put its stamp
- 11:50Speaker 2: of approval on it and said we're going to regulate
- 11:52Speaker 2: it and make sure that it's safe. This is going
- 11:55Speaker 2: to become, in my opinion, a massive, massive, massive problem
- 12:00Speaker 2: because this is there's going to be widespread adoption of
- 12:03Speaker 2: this all throughout the banking industry. It's already starting. It's
- 12:06Speaker 2: going to speed up over the next several years. It's
- 12:09Speaker 2: going to be common for people to use digital dollars
- 12:13Speaker 2: through these stable coins, and without any privacy protections or
- 12:19Speaker 2: liberty protections. They didn't put any of that in the bill.
- 12:23Speaker 2: They just passed it and gave all this power to
- 12:25Speaker 2: the black Rocks of the world without protecting individuals. And
- 12:28Speaker 2: there was no reason to do that. They could have
- 12:30Speaker 2: easily put those protections in the bill. So for me
- 12:34Speaker 2: down the road, say five years into the future, I
- 12:36Speaker 2: think this could be like a crisis level problem. If
- 12:39Speaker 2: we have a Democrat in the White House that wants
- 12:41Speaker 2: to work in a public private partnership with the black
- 12:44Speaker 2: rocks of the world, just like they did with ESG
- 12:47Speaker 2: to control what you can buy and what you can sell,
- 12:50Speaker 2: and who the good guys and bad guys are and
- 12:52Speaker 2: all of that stuff, just like they were doing with
- 12:54Speaker 2: social credit scores before.
- 12:55Speaker 1: Who's fighting it in the House and Senate? Anybody?
- 13:00Speaker 2: Some people who fought against it. Josh Holly in the Senate,
- 13:02Speaker 2: for example, is one of those people. But for the
- 13:05Speaker 2: most part, Republicans were in favor of it, and a
- 13:08Speaker 2: lot of the Democrats were in favor of it too.
- 13:11Speaker 1: How much have you written about it?
- 13:15Speaker 2: I've written a decent amount. I actually published some articles
- 13:20Speaker 2: and some big publications and things like that. But for
- 13:23Speaker 2: the most part, the establishment I did Glenbeck Show and
- 13:26Speaker 2: some of some bigger shows talking about that as well.
- 13:28Speaker 2: But the reality is the Republicans and Donald Trump were
- 13:33Speaker 2: openly in favor of it. I mean, they were advocating
- 13:36Speaker 2: for it, and because of that, there was just no
- 13:40Speaker 2: way that it was going to die. It's just there
- 13:42Speaker 2: was way too much support behind it from the very beginning.
- 13:46Speaker 1: Is anyone starting to see the potential problems now that
- 13:51Speaker 1: it's out there and maybe rethinking or is that just
- 13:55Speaker 1: not there yet.
- 13:57Speaker 2: Well, I mean there were, like I said, Josh Hall
- 14:00Speaker 2: and people like that are atting some of the same
- 14:02Speaker 2: concerns that I had, But for the most part, no,
- 14:04Speaker 2: And it's because it seems like a free market solution
- 14:08Speaker 2: to a problem, you know, And that's that's the thing.
- 14:11Speaker 2: Because there's a lot of benefits to having a digital dollar.
- 14:14Speaker 2: You can do you basically transmit it around the world
- 14:18Speaker 2: twenty four to seven for almost nothing, So there's it's
- 14:21Speaker 2: it's a much better system than a banking system we
- 14:24Speaker 2: have now where it takes days to move money in
- 14:26Speaker 2: some cases. So there are real advantages to it, but
- 14:30Speaker 2: there are also huge problems, and those problems are just
- 14:34Speaker 2: being ignored. And I think while you have Donald Trump
- 14:37Speaker 2: in the White House, there really aren't any threats. But
- 14:40Speaker 2: that's not what I'm worried about. I'm worried about the
- 14:42Speaker 2: next president or the president after that. I'm worried about
- 14:45Speaker 2: the next you know, Joe Biden type of president, or
- 14:48Speaker 2: Barack Obama. And I think they're setting the stage for
- 14:51Speaker 2: a catastrophe down the road because they didn't put personal
- 14:55Speaker 2: liberty protections in that legislation, and there was no reason
- 14:57Speaker 2: why they couldn't have done it, so very very frustrating.
- 15:01Speaker 1: Justin, hang on for a second. I want to talk
- 15:02Speaker 1: to you real quick as we wrap up here. But
- 15:05Speaker 1: thanks for the time this morning. Of course, Justin Haskins
- 15:09Speaker 1: with me. I'm gonna visit with him in a second
- 15:11Speaker 1: here off air, just us talking, you know us, guy's talking.
- 15:15Speaker 1: We've got the news coming up. We've got the big
- 15:17Speaker 1: stories in the press box. Howard Eisman joins us with
- 15:19Speaker 1: some money talk. More to come on The Morning Show
- 15:22Speaker 1: with Preston Scott
