- 2:30Speaker 2: why don't you tell us what we will be covering
- 2:33Speaker 2: it tonight?
- 2:36Speaker 1: But I'm going to give a trigger warning because before
- 2:40Speaker 1: we get into tonight's case, I want to advise everyone
- 2:45Speaker 1: grab some tissues, grab your wall, and grab your alcohol. Yeah,
- 2:52Speaker 1: because tonight's episode is one that is deeply personal and
- 2:58Speaker 1: is an incredibly difficult journey. Because we are joined by Nicole,
- 3:04Speaker 1: who is a woman who never expected to find herself
- 3:08Speaker 1: fighting from justice in a heart room. But who is
- 3:11Speaker 1: now doing exactly that for someone she loved with her
- 3:15Speaker 1: whole heart.
- 3:16Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, Nicole saw Ruby, who is so was
- 3:19Speaker 2: so stinking adorable, was shot and killed by Nicole's stepfather.
- 3:26Speaker 2: Yeah stepfather. Now what followed was not only the shock
- 3:30Speaker 2: and grief of losing her her best friend, who was
- 3:33Speaker 2: she was only like a year old, she has a
- 3:35Speaker 2: little baby thing, but the unraveling of lies, criminal charges,
- 3:40Speaker 2: a rejected plea deal, and the painful reality that seeking
- 3:45Speaker 2: justice has cost her relationships within her own family. And
- 3:49Speaker 2: now this case is now headed to trial. And we
- 3:53Speaker 2: don't usually cover this sort of stuff. It doesn't pop up, really,
- 3:57Speaker 2: I mean, who does this? Who does I know?
- 4:02Speaker 1: And here on True Crime and Wine Time we talk
- 4:04Speaker 1: about crime, accountability and the ripple effects that violence leaves behind.
- 4:10Speaker 1: Tonight we're talking about all of that through the lens
- 4:14Speaker 1: of loyalty, love, betrayal, and resilience. And with that I
- 4:20Speaker 1: would like to and fight. Nicle. Thank you for being here,
- 4:25Speaker 1: and most important for of course, thank you for trusting
- 4:29Speaker 1: us with Ruby's story, because we are honored to have you,
- 4:34Speaker 1: and we are ready to listen and derage with you,
- 4:39Speaker 1: and I'm going to try not to get in the
- 4:41Speaker 1: car and drive to New Jersey and take thank you hands,
- 4:46Speaker 1: thank you, thanks for having me.
- 4:49Speaker 3: I'm excited to be here. I wish it was, of course,
- 4:51Speaker 3: under different circumstances, but I'm thankful for any platform I'm
- 4:56Speaker 3: able to share Ruby's story on, to hope hopefully helps
- 5:00Speaker 3: like victims of similar crimes or people who are seeking justice.
- 5:04Speaker 3: So I'm just you know, I'm here to you know,
- 5:07Speaker 3: make sure that Ruby's life mattered. So thank you for
- 5:09Speaker 3: inviting me on.
- 5:10Speaker 2: Yeah, not only for Ruby, but for other animals as.
- 5:13Speaker 1: Exactly, exactly at least they are our children, and anyone
- 5:19Speaker 1: who wants to say otherwise come at me.
- 5:22Speaker 3: No my retweet.
- 5:23Speaker 2: For sure, they have tons of personality. I mean, everybody
- 5:27Speaker 2: knows my dogs, Zoe especially has quite the personality. It's
- 5:33Speaker 2: not a nice one, but she has one. No, that's
- 5:37Speaker 2: really you know. Bringing awareness to this sort of thing
- 5:42Speaker 2: is very, very powerful. So I'm glad you are because
- 5:45Speaker 2: it can't be you know, you can't be the only
- 5:49Speaker 2: one that something similar has happened to.
- 5:51Speaker 3: Unfortunately, No, I keep seeing everybody like in my TikTok comments,
- 5:56Speaker 3: story time and there's so many people who are victims
- 5:59Speaker 3: of the similar crime who never got to seek justice
- 6:03Speaker 3: because of family dynamics or nobody cared enough to like
- 6:08Speaker 3: on the outside to help them pursue justice and like
- 6:10Speaker 3: law enforcement and stuff. Hi, Tom, And so we started
- 6:17Speaker 3: like a little support group within that community. But yeah,
- 6:19Speaker 3: it's truly eye opening to see how many people go
- 6:21Speaker 3: through this and a lot of it goes unreported or
- 6:23Speaker 3: undetected because of the you know, family dynamics.
- 6:27Speaker 1: And that's how I found her, was on TikTok and
- 6:30Speaker 1: I even had to Ziller the first time we talked.
- 6:32Speaker 1: I live in Texas. This is not something that I
- 6:36Speaker 1: think would be a huge deal in Texas because yeah,
- 6:40Speaker 1: so we'll get into it, but yeah.
- 6:43Speaker 2: What are we each drinking tonight before we do? Because
- 6:47Speaker 2: as we told everybody, you better bring a bottle. You're
- 6:50Speaker 2: gonna need it.
- 6:51Speaker 1: I did, and I am having a feeling for because
- 6:56Speaker 1: that's all it says. And I was like, Okay, it's pink,
- 6:59Speaker 1: and I'm gonna have lots of feelings, but it's a
- 7:01Speaker 1: sparkling rose from Chile. And I did bring the whole
- 7:05Speaker 1: bottle because I think I'm gonna need more than a
- 7:07Speaker 1: glass tonight.
- 7:09Speaker 2: Nice.
- 7:10Speaker 1: It does say it has a brilliant pale rose color,
- 7:13Speaker 1: which it does, but it says it has an intense
- 7:16Speaker 1: flavor of raspberry, mandarin and lime, which I'm gonna tell
- 7:20Speaker 1: you is kind of weird. And I will say the
- 7:23Speaker 1: first sip was a little rough, but now it's not.
- 7:29Speaker 3: Oh, it looks good.
- 7:32Speaker 2: Nobody on our vertical is telling me how the wrong setup. Sorry,
- 7:34Speaker 2: vertical of people for you. We're so new to the
- 7:38Speaker 2: vertical and horizontal things. We look so much better. Well tonight,
- 7:45Speaker 2: I am drinking. I too, brought the bottle Oliver's Cherry moscato.
- 7:51Speaker 2: I don't know why we both picked the roseish ones,
- 7:55Speaker 2: but it's pretty good. It does have a little alcohol tent,
- 8:00Speaker 2: which is six was important to me.
- 8:04Speaker 1: Yes, okay, soe Cherry do better when ordering the wine
- 8:09Speaker 1: deliveries for each of us.
- 8:11Speaker 2: It's less about how it tastes, okay, and more of
- 8:16Speaker 2: the alcohol. I'm just kidding.
- 8:20Speaker 3: The minus twelve point five, yeah, well, I'm drinking zero
- 8:26Speaker 3: percent because of the snowstorm, so I am envious. But
- 8:30Speaker 3: I would be drinking like a ruby red grapefruit rose
- 8:34Speaker 3: type of wine on the rose train with you. Guys,
- 8:36Speaker 3: and I love that an honor Ruby, so I.
- 8:39Speaker 2: Know, well that's why I picked That's why I picked mine,
- 8:42Speaker 2: the cherry one, because I was like, oh, her name's
- 8:46Speaker 2: Ruby Red. So yeah, that's why I picked that one.
- 8:49Speaker 3: I love it.
- 8:51Speaker 1: I have to ask, because you're in New Jersey, how
- 8:54Speaker 1: many inches of snow? Because I live in Texas as
- 8:56Speaker 1: you know, Austin. I think the most we've ever had
- 8:59Speaker 1: here is four five mentions, So to me, that's a snowstorm.
- 9:05Speaker 1: But you guys got twenty str inches.
- 9:08Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah, work was canceled the last two days. Can't
- 9:12Speaker 3: get out of our driveways. It's you know, we require
- 9:14Speaker 3: will get towed if it's on the road type of situation.
- 9:17Speaker 3: A lot, yeah, even stuff.
- 9:21Speaker 2: Yeah that's going to take a while to get rid of. Yeah,
- 9:24Speaker 2: quite a while, quite a while. All right, Well let's
- 9:28Speaker 2: go ahead and get into two things tonight.
- 9:32Speaker 1: So yeah, you want to Nicole, thank you again for
- 9:36Speaker 1: coming on and sharing Ruby's story. I have to say,
- 9:40Speaker 1: first of all, I am very thankful that you responded
- 9:43Speaker 1: to my TikTok dam because I don't normally reach out
- 9:47Speaker 1: to people in DMS. I don't.
- 9:49Speaker 3: I was just thankful that you've reached out, so the
- 9:52Speaker 3: feeling's neutral.
- 9:53Speaker 1: Yeah, and hopefully you're not getting all of the crazy
- 9:55Speaker 1: dms that always I do.
- 9:58Speaker 3: But I try to, you know, I try to answer
- 9:59Speaker 3: everybody and give them the benefit of the doubt.
- 10:01Speaker 4: But but yeah, I think you messaged me too that night,
- 10:04Speaker 4: was like, hey, yeah, I in this interview and I
- 10:07Speaker 4: was like, Okay, I don't even know what you're talking about,
- 10:09Speaker 4: but okay, I was like, just to learn about it.
- 10:13Speaker 1: Yeah, but I appreciate it because I have to tell you,
- 10:17Speaker 1: I have thought about this so much. I can't imagine
- 10:19Speaker 1: how hard this is for you. Because I'm a huge
- 10:23Speaker 1: animal lover. My goal is to one day, if I
- 10:26Speaker 1: ever win the lottery, I want to have a ranch
- 10:28Speaker 1: big enough to save all of the senior dogs that
- 10:31Speaker 1: can't get adopted.
- 10:32Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 10:33Speaker 1: I've had everything from we won't even go down that,
- 10:37Speaker 1: we won't even go down that. But I admire you
- 10:42Speaker 1: because I have to say I'm a strong person. And
- 10:46Speaker 1: maybe it's because I live in Texas. I don't know
- 10:49Speaker 1: if I would have had the strength to go through
- 10:51Speaker 1: what you've had to go through.
- 10:53Speaker 3: So I want you to tell me and saying that.
- 10:57Speaker 1: About Ruby, and I want to know how you became
- 11:01Speaker 1: her mom.
- 11:02Speaker 3: Ah, it's yeah, sorry, like off the batom, just like
- 11:07Speaker 3: feeling so my things. Ruby was like my best friend
- 11:10Speaker 3: in the whole world. She was curious. Friend chies or
- 11:15Speaker 3: are notoriously nosy. She was nosy, but she was so sweet.
- 11:20Speaker 3: She was just so gentle, and she was like the
- 11:24Speaker 3: epitome of the most perfect dog ever. And I got
- 11:28Speaker 3: to be Ruby's mom because my husband and I we
- 11:34Speaker 3: were babysitting another friend she that looked exactly like Ruby.
- 11:37Speaker 3: Her name was Lucy, and I babysat. We babysat her,
- 11:43Speaker 3: and we just absolutely fell in love like friend chees like.
- 11:46Speaker 3: I didn't understand the hype. I knew that they were
- 11:48Speaker 3: unethically bred. I knew that if, like, if I got
- 11:52Speaker 3: a dog in my adult life, that it would be
- 11:54Speaker 3: like a rescue dog or something like that. I never
- 11:56Speaker 3: envisioned myself being a frindchie mom. Then we babysat Lucy,
- 12:00Speaker 3: and Lucy just was sitting on my lap at all times.
- 12:02Speaker 3: She was so snugly, she was so silly. I don't
- 12:05Speaker 3: think I smiled that big and so long. I have
- 12:09Speaker 3: a gloraphobia and panic disorder, so like after babysitting Lucy.
- 12:14Speaker 3: I was like, did we crack the code? Like I
- 12:16Speaker 3: can like leave my house Like this is great. So
- 12:20Speaker 3: I kept asking Lucy's mom if we could babysit her,
- 12:23Speaker 3: and my husband and I were like, maybe we'll get
- 12:25Speaker 3: a dog, you know, we'll get our own Lucy. So
- 12:28Speaker 3: we took like six months. We saved our money. You know,
- 12:31Speaker 3: friendchies are expensive. We like did a lot of research
- 12:34Speaker 3: because again I know that they're on that unethically bred enough.
- 12:37Speaker 3: I was gonna, you know, be a dog mom to
- 12:40Speaker 3: a dog.
- 12:41Speaker 1: Yes, about that, what do you mean they're unethically bred?
- 12:46Speaker 3: So basically a friend see, friend chies are like made
- 12:50Speaker 3: in a in a lab. They can't give birth on
- 12:53Speaker 3: their own. They have to have sea sections. It's like
- 12:56Speaker 3: they combined embryos together, they implanted into the the mommy
- 13:00Speaker 3: friend she It's that's why they're so expensive and that's
- 13:04Speaker 3: why if you don't.
- 13:05Speaker 1: So all frenchies are that.
- 13:07Speaker 3: Way essentially, but if you let a friend she give
- 13:10Speaker 3: birth naturally, it's considered like a big no no because
- 13:15Speaker 3: their hips are so little and that's like could be
- 13:18Speaker 3: very dangerous, full and dangerous for them.
- 13:21Speaker 1: So it's just like a Zonki.
- 13:24Speaker 3: Yeah, so it's it's definitely a whole industry for sure.
- 13:29Speaker 3: That again I never wanted to be a part of
- 13:31Speaker 3: but I fell in love so here I am. So Yeah,
- 13:35Speaker 3: we got our own Ruby.
- 13:38Speaker 1: Love makes us do things.
- 13:40Speaker 3: Yeah, so we got our own Ruby. And she was
- 13:44Speaker 3: the love like love of our love of our lives.
- 13:46Speaker 3: We got her two days before my husband's thirtieth birthday.
- 13:50Speaker 2: And so you a tribute as somebody else that had
- 13:55Speaker 2: agoraphobia for a few years, the people that helped save
- 13:58Speaker 2: me was my online friend. I assumed that Ruby was yours.
- 14:04Speaker 3: Yes, like tenfold. I had the kind of anxiety where
- 14:08Speaker 3: I couldn't drive in the car without throwing up and
- 14:10Speaker 3: gagging and making myself sick. And one of the you know,
- 14:15Speaker 3: I remember taking a three hour car ride with Ruby
- 14:18Speaker 3: to go visit my best friend who just bought a house.
- 14:20Speaker 3: And I didn't throw up, I didn't gage like it
- 14:25Speaker 3: was unreal. She was your medication, No, she really was.
- 14:29Speaker 3: She really was.
- 14:31Speaker 2: All right, I'm already crying, so sorry.
- 14:35Speaker 1: So then you got Ruby. So I want to hear
- 14:38Speaker 1: what her personality was like. Did she live up to
- 14:42Speaker 1: Lucy or did she surpassed Little Lucy.
- 14:45Speaker 3: I don't want to be biased because we love Lucy.
- 14:47Speaker 1: Like we still love Lucy.
- 14:49Speaker 3: She surpassed everything. She was so goofy, she was like
- 14:55Speaker 3: really eager to learn, and we were just so bonded
- 14:59Speaker 3: in so attached. The first night we brought her home,
- 15:02Speaker 3: I never wanted to create her, but like you know,
- 15:04Speaker 3: I'm reading online, I never had my own puppy before.
- 15:07Speaker 3: So we put her in the crate. She cried once
- 15:09Speaker 3: and I was like, that's it. We're never creating this
- 15:11Speaker 3: dog again. And she slept like this on me until
- 15:14Speaker 3: she was a puppy, until you know, one of our
- 15:16Speaker 3: last days together.
- 15:17Speaker 5: So so yeah, I know everybody says you should create,
- 15:23Speaker 5: sleep them and create train them, but I'm gonna tell
- 15:26Speaker 5: you there is I'm.
- 15:27Speaker 3: A helicopter mom.
- 15:28Speaker 1: Not nothing like having them snuggle with you in bed
- 15:32Speaker 1: because our little chia palm, she crawls up right here.
- 15:36Speaker 3: Yeah, it's the best. It really is the best.
- 15:40Speaker 1: So tell us what an ordinary day look like with
- 15:45Speaker 1: me and her mom.
- 15:47Speaker 3: Yeah, so in ordinary day, I mean luckily and not luckily,
- 15:52Speaker 3: I had, you know, we got Ruby as a puppy,
- 15:55Speaker 3: and I I set up all these babysitters for rumy
- 16:00Speaker 3: because I didn't want her to be home by herself.
- 16:02Speaker 3: So I was telling my husband that these people, like
- 16:05Speaker 3: you know, my sorority sisters and like my friends, were
- 16:07Speaker 3: just donating their time.
- 16:09Speaker 1: Good mom to babysit Ruby.
- 16:11Speaker 3: But meanwhile I was like paying them all and it
- 16:13Speaker 3: was like, where's all your money going? And I'm like, oh,
- 16:15Speaker 3: you know, so I was paying all these babysitters to
- 16:17Speaker 3: take care of her because I just was obsessed with her.
- 16:21Speaker 3: But then I lost my job due to sexual harassment
- 16:25Speaker 3: back in April, so luckily I got to have the
- 16:27Speaker 3: whole summer with her, and a typical day would be
- 16:30Speaker 3: waking up with her on top of me, you know,
- 16:34Speaker 3: having some breakfast. And I was so crazy. I wanted
- 16:37Speaker 3: like an activity to do with her. Every day. We
- 16:39Speaker 3: would go get a pup cup, or if I had
- 16:41Speaker 3: to leave the house for like an hour. I read
- 16:43Speaker 3: that every time you leave the house, dogs think that
- 16:46Speaker 3: you're going hunting for them for food, So I would
- 16:48Speaker 3: make sure that I came back with a treat for
- 16:50Speaker 3: her to let you know that, like, you know, mommy
- 16:53Speaker 3: was out hunting or whatever.
- 16:54Speaker 2: Like that you were out hunting.
- 16:57Speaker 1: Yeah, So okay, I love it. I'm a bad mom.
- 17:02Speaker 1: I'm a bad I have never them. I never thought
- 17:06Speaker 1: now I bring them a treat every day, but I
- 17:08Speaker 1: didn't buy it that day. I just have. I mean
- 17:09Speaker 1: even my goats, we call it goat crack.
- 17:11Speaker 3: I have cheese balls and that's true, so cute. Yeah,
- 17:16Speaker 3: the gas station around the corner from me had like,
- 17:18Speaker 3: you know, little dog sticks. Every time I, you know,
- 17:20Speaker 3: came home. I just ran in there wraped dog stick
- 17:23Speaker 3: and you know, it's like Mommy's home. So we just
- 17:25Speaker 3: had the best day ever. Every single day, just my
- 17:28Speaker 3: little shadow. We did everything. We would play catch, you know.
- 17:31Speaker 3: We made the most of the time. Told my husband
- 17:33Speaker 3: came home from work and then his two girls were
- 17:36Speaker 3: waiting for him. You know, me and Ruby.
- 17:39Speaker 2: That's adorable. I love that.
- 17:40Speaker 1: And Mama, I just realized, I'm not sure that we
- 17:43Speaker 1: told you that there is a slide show. Nope, Amos
- 17:49Speaker 1: finished it and messaged to me. I still do not
- 17:53Speaker 1: know how to do it.
- 17:54Speaker 2: Into find it.
- 17:56Speaker 1: Or the thing I just thought of that. I'm like,
- 17:58Speaker 1: because there's pictures of Ruby. Ruby even we camp and
- 18:01Speaker 1: it looked.
- 18:02Speaker 3: Like, oh yeah we went camping in Uh yeah, that
- 18:07Speaker 3: was actually my father in law's backyard. We did a
- 18:09Speaker 3: summer camping and she stayed with us in the tent
- 18:11Speaker 3: the whole night, just sew down for anything.
- 18:15Speaker 1: Because we take our dogs camping and we camp out
- 18:18Speaker 1: in the backyard too, grand kids and with that, so
- 18:21Speaker 1: I was like, there's a video. Uh So I have
- 18:25Speaker 1: to ask when you think of Ruby, now, what is
- 18:29Speaker 1: your first memory that comes to mind from when you
- 18:34Speaker 1: when you got her.
- 18:36Speaker 3: This is so hard because there are so many good ones.
- 18:38Speaker 3: But probably like a week after we brought her home,
- 18:42Speaker 3: my husband and I were like, you know, helicopter parents,
- 18:44Speaker 3: because like this is she's like this big and we
- 18:47Speaker 3: went out to go get dog food and oh my,
- 18:52Speaker 3: that's my girl.
- 18:53Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 18:53Speaker 3: We went out to go get dog food in my
- 18:55Speaker 3: husband's truck and then his gas gage stopped working and
- 18:58Speaker 3: then he ran out of gas. So it's me, Nick
- 19:00Speaker 3: and Ruby on the side of the road ran out
- 19:02Speaker 3: of gas and just hit just all three of us
- 19:05Speaker 3: together trying to figure out what to do. And then
- 19:08Speaker 3: she just was sleeping like the whole time in the middle,
- 19:11Speaker 3: just like I don't know, that's just one of like
- 19:13Speaker 3: a fond memory because like we were all three of us,
- 19:15Speaker 3: we stuck it was like the first time as a
- 19:17Speaker 3: family that like we like, we're so worried about like
- 19:20Speaker 3: Ruby being stuck in the car with us, and you know,
- 19:22Speaker 3: who was going to take the uber home, Who's going
- 19:24Speaker 3: to get gas? Who was going to stay with her?
- 19:26Speaker 1: So like this girl, that picture I fell in love
- 19:32Speaker 1: what I thought of, Like, okay, I have to include that.
- 19:35Speaker 3: She looks so mad in some of these pictures. Like,
- 19:37Speaker 3: but I just like, she's just so cud. She didn't mean,
- 19:40Speaker 3: she didn't mean. Yeah, she just was being silly.
- 19:42Speaker 2: Girl. That's adorrible. We did we ask you why you
- 19:47Speaker 2: went with the name Ruby.
- 19:49Speaker 3: I don't. My husband picked it out and she got
- 19:52Speaker 3: we got a dog tag for her, like six months
- 19:55Speaker 3: before we got her. We just were like, we're going
- 19:56Speaker 3: to see our Ruby and we're gonna know.
- 19:59Speaker 2: Oh okay, yeah, so we love that. Yeah, Oh my god,
- 20:03Speaker 2: look at that one. That's so cute.
- 20:05Speaker 3: Her ears were so big, my little girl. Yeah, she
- 20:08Speaker 3: was only one.
- 20:09Speaker 1: Adorable. Now now comes the rough stuff. Let's tell us
- 20:14Speaker 1: about the weekend, the night that led up to justice
- 20:20Speaker 1: for Ruby.
- 20:21Speaker 3: Yeah, so I was in my best friend's wedding. I
- 20:26Speaker 3: was a bridesmaid and the you know, I left the
- 20:31Speaker 3: house really early. That Friday, was October third. I left
- 20:34Speaker 3: the house at like six am, because you know, bridesmaid's duties,
- 20:37Speaker 3: you gotta you know, go and get ready all day.
- 20:40Speaker 3: And yeah, Ruby woke up with me and we didn't
- 20:46Speaker 3: have any dog food left in the house because I
- 20:48Speaker 3: don't know why. So I door dashed her McDonald's because
- 20:51Speaker 3: I'm a psychopath. So I door dashed her some eggs
- 20:54Speaker 3: and bacon and shes path.
- 20:58Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 20:59Speaker 3: Yeah. So I then she went back into bed with
- 21:02Speaker 3: my husband, and I was like, Okay, you have to
- 21:04Speaker 3: drop Rupie off at my parents at you know, three
- 21:06Speaker 3: o'clock or whatever if we want to make it in
- 21:08Speaker 3: time to church. So Nick had dropped her off at
- 21:12Speaker 3: my parents' house and he you know, met me at
- 21:15Speaker 3: the wedding and you know, how to drop off go.
- 21:18Speaker 2: It did good.
- 21:18Speaker 3: She got settled in. My parents had always babysat for us,
- 21:24Speaker 3: which is why part of the reason why we were
- 21:26Speaker 3: able to get a puppy was because I was able
- 21:28Speaker 3: to rely on them to you know, watch her while
- 21:30Speaker 3: I was at work in tandem with those other dogs sitting, yeah,
- 21:34Speaker 3: in tandem with those you know dog sitters and stuff.
- 21:37Speaker 3: I hired throughout the week and my mom was off Sundays,
- 21:40Speaker 3: Mondays and Tuesdays, so anyway, so they watched her. So
- 21:43Speaker 3: this the only difference was this was her first time
- 21:45Speaker 3: sleeping there. So I packed her a little bag, you know,
- 21:48Speaker 3: gave them very strict instructions. I was like, she has
- 21:50Speaker 3: to sleep in the bed with you guys. She has
- 21:52Speaker 3: to sleep in the bed with you guys. Like I
- 21:53Speaker 3: just was like, you know, They're like, okay, we got it.
- 21:57Speaker 3: We got it. And my parents have another dog her size,
- 22:00Speaker 3: so she was really excited to go to Jiuji Grandpa's
- 22:03Speaker 3: house is what we called them. So We're at the
- 22:06Speaker 3: wedding and I'm sitting at the table with uh you know,
- 22:09Speaker 3: I was sitting at the table with some guests that
- 22:12Speaker 3: I didn't know. So I made a joke and I
- 22:14Speaker 3: was like, oh, like, my child is having her first
- 22:16Speaker 3: sleepover tonight. And they were like, oh, like how old
- 22:18Speaker 3: is she? And I was like, you know, I showed
- 22:20Speaker 3: her a picture like revealing that it's a dog, and
- 22:22Speaker 3: I was like, oh, like, let me FaceTime my mom.
- 22:25Speaker 3: So I FaceTime my mom like no answer. And this
- 22:29Speaker 3: was at six twenty like six twenty two. Wish so
- 22:32Speaker 3: I called my mom like eight times from like six
- 22:35Speaker 3: twenty two to six twenty seven. No answer.
- 22:38Speaker 2: Okay.
- 22:39Speaker 3: Then it was time for like, you know, their first
- 22:41Speaker 3: dances and stuff. I put my phone down and I
- 22:43Speaker 3: was in the moment. And then at eight twenty two,
- 22:48Speaker 3: my husband calls me and he's like, I think you
- 22:51Speaker 3: need to come outside. And I was like, why, what's wrong?
- 22:54Speaker 3: Because I looked around. I'm like, oh my god, Nick's
- 22:56Speaker 3: not here, like and he was like I was just
- 22:59Speaker 3: really thinking to come outside, and it's sound like he
- 23:02Speaker 3: was crying. And I was like, did my dad die?
- 23:05Speaker 3: Did my dad die? Because my dad he lives in Florida,
- 23:07Speaker 3: he's got MS and like the month prior he uh
- 23:11Speaker 3: he was he fell unconscious in his sleep, and you
- 23:15Speaker 3: know that was really scary. So immediately like, okay, my
- 23:18Speaker 3: dad died, Like I took off my shoes. I'm running
- 23:21Speaker 3: on the golf course to meet my husband and he's
- 23:24Speaker 3: on his knees and he's like, Ruby's gone. And I'm like,
- 23:28Speaker 3: what do you mean She's gone? Like let's let's go
- 23:30Speaker 3: find her, Like what do you mean? And he was
- 23:32Speaker 3: like no, like she died. And we both fell to
- 23:38Speaker 3: our knees and just started crying our eyes out, and
- 23:42Speaker 3: I was in so much shock, and I was like
- 23:46Speaker 3: what do I do? Like what do we do? And
- 23:48Speaker 3: he was like, well, we have to go get her, so,
- 23:50Speaker 3: you know, I the other bridesmaids in the wedding. I
- 23:53Speaker 3: was like, don't tell Audrey what happened, you know that,
- 23:56Speaker 3: just you know, I have to go. And we were
- 23:59Speaker 3: flying down the parkway. It was about like a thirty
- 24:03Speaker 3: five minute car ride. So I felt like eternity.
- 24:06Speaker 1: I'm sure it.
- 24:07Speaker 3: Felt like so on my my stomach, wasn't It felt
- 24:10Speaker 3: like a gut punch, like driving there, like and I'm
- 24:12Speaker 3: just sobbing, like my my eyelashes off my face and
- 24:15Speaker 3: I'm at this point, I'm still trying to call my
- 24:17Speaker 3: mom and she's not answering me. So I called my dad,
- 24:21Speaker 3: who again, like I said, is you know, in Florida.
- 24:24Speaker 3: And I really try not to burden him, but like
- 24:26Speaker 3: stuff like this, but at this like who else can
- 24:28Speaker 3: you turn to? Ye, because in any other situation like this,
- 24:31Speaker 3: I would call my mom or my stepdad because you know,
- 24:33Speaker 3: they're so close in proximity, and they were like my people.
- 24:36Speaker 3: So I called my dad and I was like, I
- 24:41Speaker 3: don't know what to do. I never lost a dog before.
- 24:43Speaker 3: I'm so scared. I can't look at her body, Like
- 24:45Speaker 3: what do I do when I get there? I just
- 24:48Speaker 3: was nothing could prepare you for like that moment. And
- 24:54Speaker 3: and we were told that she was attacked by an animal.
- 24:57Speaker 3: So I'm like, I don't want to see like like
- 24:59Speaker 3: all like whatever happened to her, Like I'm just yeah,
- 25:03Speaker 3: so like I'm so scared. I kept telling my dad,
- 25:06Speaker 3: I'm so scared. I'm so scared. I'm so scared, and
- 25:07Speaker 3: he was like and then flipping to my husband's perspective,
- 25:13Speaker 3: he got a text from my stepdad at nine to eighteen,
- 25:16Speaker 3: like right before we pulled up, I have like my
- 25:19Speaker 3: little notebook here of stuff, so I don't remember saying
- 25:22Speaker 3: don't let Nicole come here like a psychopath. We all
- 25:26Speaker 3: went through a way too much to deal with her
- 25:28Speaker 3: bullshit right now. So I saw that message coming through
- 25:31Speaker 3: on the phone and I was like, okay. So my
- 25:36Speaker 3: dad suggested me calling a peacekeeper cop if they're gonna,
- 25:40Speaker 3: you know, think I'm gonna show up like a psychopath,
- 25:43Speaker 3: which right fully, so then I.
- 25:46Speaker 1: Greething mom is not a psychopath. For anybody watching a
- 25:50Speaker 1: grieving mom is not a psychopath, so and label.
- 25:53Speaker 3: It thank you and so he.
- 25:59Speaker 2: So so.
- 26:01Speaker 3: And at that point, I was not upset with my parents.
- 26:05Speaker 3: I was, you know, accidents happened. I actually felt empathetic
- 26:08Speaker 3: for them because I can't imagine babysitting their dog and
- 26:11Speaker 3: start a freak accident happening, and then having to face
- 26:14Speaker 3: them with this.
- 26:15Speaker 2: Yeah, I would think that they wouldn't like why wouldn't
- 26:19Speaker 2: you think that?
- 26:20Speaker 3: The only thing I was upset about, and this is
- 26:22Speaker 3: what I like. As soon as we pulled up to
- 26:24Speaker 3: their house. The only thing I was upset about was
- 26:27Speaker 3: I didn't get to say goodbye, like you know, I'm
- 26:30Speaker 3: like I I you know, I'm like I called you
- 26:32Speaker 3: five times at the table, like why didn't like, why
- 26:34Speaker 3: couldn't you just answer me?
- 26:36Speaker 1: Why did they ext her husband instead of being.
- 26:39Speaker 3: Because they asked him if they could if he would
- 26:42Speaker 3: tell me in the morning, because they were scared.
- 26:46Speaker 1: I go, clearly, harry because she had emotions and feelings.
- 26:50Speaker 1: I guess a woman. So you'll learn real quick about us.
- 26:54Speaker 1: We get it. We're women are as. Yeah yeah, yeah,
- 27:00Speaker 1: one can kiss my ass.
- 27:02Speaker 3: Yeah. So my husband was like I'm not doing to
- 27:05Speaker 3: Nicole what you guys would be doing to her in
- 27:07Speaker 3: this situation, which is clearly you would be hiding it
- 27:09Speaker 3: from her and trying to tell her in the morning. Like,
- 27:12Speaker 3: so I'm so happy that my husband was like, absolutely not,
- 27:14Speaker 3: despite it being my best friend's wedding. It was the
- 27:16Speaker 3: right thing to do for me to be there. And
- 27:21Speaker 3: a little like backstory, like real quick is my mom
- 27:24Speaker 3: owns a hair salon and she's got an assistant who's
- 27:26Speaker 3: like my age, I'm thirty, and I always, you know,
- 27:31Speaker 3: she always like labeled herself like as like you know, like, oh,
- 27:34Speaker 3: we're sisters, because like she's so close to my mom,
- 27:36Speaker 3: but I always felt like a little bit left out
- 27:40Speaker 3: between her and my mom's relationship. So okay, flashboards to
- 27:44Speaker 3: that night of we pull up to my parents' house
- 27:47Speaker 3: and then my mom and the assistant get out of
- 27:50Speaker 3: the core with Ruby in a box and I'm like
- 27:55Speaker 3: she called her, yeah but you but not me, right,
- 28:00Speaker 3: And at that point the cops pulled up at the
- 28:03Speaker 3: same time for the peacekeeper cop and you know, we
- 28:08Speaker 3: approached the door like you know, to get my step
- 28:11Speaker 3: dad out of the house, and he was like just cursing,
- 28:15Speaker 3: and he was like, I can't believe he called the
- 28:17Speaker 3: effing cops. You really think like I was cruel to
- 28:20Speaker 3: your dog, like just completely. He literally just was like,
- 28:24Speaker 3: get the off my property, like you know, like he
- 28:27Speaker 3: just kicked us off the property. My mom and her
- 28:30Speaker 3: assistant handed me Ruby in a box and show go.
- 28:34Speaker 3: So we go down to this like another street, and
- 28:38Speaker 3: we're just sitting on the curb crying, like the cop
- 28:41Speaker 3: is like talking to them, right, yeah, So they separated us.
- 28:45Speaker 3: A different policeman went to them, and another policeman was
- 28:48Speaker 3: sitting with us, and the policeman sitting with us said,
- 28:51Speaker 3: if you think it's foul play, you know, we'll bring
- 28:54Speaker 3: her to the necropsy lab. But I do want to
- 28:56Speaker 3: let you know, like if it is foul play, you know,
- 28:59Speaker 3: we will take, you know, action against your parents. So
- 29:02Speaker 3: in my head, I would never think that it was
- 29:05Speaker 3: what had happened. And I'm thinking if what was an
- 29:10Speaker 3: animal attack shows up to be confused with a cruelty
- 29:16Speaker 3: crime or something like, I can't no, I don't know
- 29:19Speaker 3: if I could like live with that, you know, and
- 29:21Speaker 3: you know what I mean, Like, so a decision, right,
- 29:26Speaker 3: and everybody.
- 29:26Speaker 1: Watching I did read the police report. You told them, No,
- 29:30Speaker 1: you didn't think anything. The fury has happened. You're alarmed
- 29:34Speaker 1: because your dad said, don't let her come here. Being
- 29:36Speaker 1: all I put psycho with emotional because I had an
- 29:39Speaker 1: next husband used to tell me, oh, it's that time
- 29:41Speaker 1: of the month. She's a psycho. I hate that, I know,
- 29:44Speaker 1: and I hate that so, uh, you did not initially.
- 29:49Speaker 1: It's not like your first thought was like, oh, they
- 29:51Speaker 1: did something, what did you do?
- 29:52Speaker 3: Yeah, it was It's not for you at all. I
- 29:55Speaker 3: just was again so upset that I didn't get me goodbye.
- 29:59Speaker 2: Okay, maybe your thought if they did do something and
- 30:02Speaker 2: be like, oh, maybe they ran over the dog because
- 30:04Speaker 2: she's super small, or like in some way it was
- 30:07Speaker 2: an accidental not intentional. Yeah you know.
- 30:11Speaker 3: Yeah, And my mom wasn't even going there. Honestly, I
- 30:15Speaker 3: just was like, okay, it was she probably ate something,
- 30:17Speaker 3: like I never even would think that they would be
- 30:19Speaker 3: capable of hurting.
- 30:20Speaker 1: Their dog is a smaller dog who's like older, right, Yeah, yep,
- 30:25Speaker 1: she's like my childhood dog.
- 30:27Speaker 3: She's like seventeen.
- 30:28Speaker 1: Yeah, Bland, it wasn't their dog who attacked it exactly.
- 30:33Speaker 1: That there was not it's not like, Okay, call this
- 30:36Speaker 1: other dog to come at them, exactly. It's like my
- 30:40Speaker 1: little Jasmine, she's a little old lady.
- 30:43Speaker 3: Yeah. So the like my stepdad had told us that
- 30:47Speaker 3: she was attacked by an animal outside and like he
- 30:49Speaker 3: like noticed that throughout the night she was bleeding, and
- 30:51Speaker 3: like before he knew it, it was too late. Like and
- 30:54Speaker 3: then the cop, the other cop approached him to ask him,
- 30:58Speaker 3: like what had happened, and then he maybe she got
- 31:00Speaker 3: hit by a car or like maybe she ate something
- 31:02Speaker 3: like I don't really know.
- 31:04Speaker 1: You'll let her out by herself to go to the
- 31:06Speaker 1: bathroom in the front yard.
- 31:08Speaker 3: That's what he claimed, but the evidence shows that she
- 31:15Speaker 3: never left the house once that night.
- 31:16Speaker 1: Yeah, we're gonna get to that.
- 31:17Speaker 3: But I'm like, yeah, she actually.
- 31:20Speaker 1: Let that dog out the front door to go in, right,
- 31:24Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, but like when she's literally one years old.
- 31:28Speaker 3: So so yeah, we're separated, and I'm like sitting on
- 31:32Speaker 3: the curb, like wondering, like why isn't my mom sitting
- 31:35Speaker 3: with me right now? Like what that interaction was so weird?
- 31:37Speaker 3: But like you know, you know.
- 31:39Speaker 1: Is your mom at home?
- 31:41Speaker 3: When so it was no, she was at work and
- 31:46Speaker 3: from my understanding. My stepdad called her and was like
- 31:50Speaker 3: I need help basically, and then that's when she left
- 31:53Speaker 3: work with the assistant and then they went there convened.
- 31:58Speaker 2: And cold and not comfort you. Right, yeah, even matter
- 32:03Speaker 2: what happened.
- 32:05Speaker 3: Yeah exactly, I'm like, why is it my mom next
- 32:07Speaker 3: to me right here on this curb?
- 32:10Speaker 1: Her step dad correct me if my memory is wrong.
- 32:14Speaker 1: When we talk, he was like important to you. He
- 32:17Speaker 1: was like the guy you went to, like my husband
- 32:21Speaker 1: is my kid's stepdad, but like you called him when
- 32:23Speaker 1: things were rough. It's not like you had an estranged relationship.
- 32:27Speaker 1: He's one of your people's that.
- 32:29Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah, he like got me through like again, like
- 32:33Speaker 3: my you know, anxiety and a gloraphobia and all this
- 32:35Speaker 3: stuff Like I used to like make myself sleep deprived
- 32:38Speaker 3: because I convinced myself I was gonna die in my sleep,
- 32:41Speaker 3: like all this awful stuff that I would I would
- 32:44Speaker 3: call him pritting you yeah, and I would be calling
- 32:47Speaker 3: him like in the middle of the night because you know,
- 32:49Speaker 3: my mom sleeps like you know, rock, So I'd be
- 32:52Speaker 3: calling him and like you know, okay her yeah so
- 32:57Speaker 3: so yeah, but you know, so I would never andticipate
- 33:00Speaker 3: them doing something like this. So we went home with
- 33:03Speaker 3: Ruby at like you know, with Ruby in the box,
- 33:06Speaker 3: and I don't know what to do. We're like, we
- 33:08Speaker 3: have to keep her cold, like, you know, just so
- 33:12Speaker 3: we put her in the garage and we put like
- 33:15Speaker 3: flowers on her box. So I never really talked about this.
- 33:17Speaker 2: Out loud, Okay.
- 33:18Speaker 6: I put ice packs, you know, underneath her little box,
- 33:22Speaker 6: and like we said a prayer, we said goodbye, and
- 33:26Speaker 6: what everybody year was this? This was in October, so
- 33:29Speaker 6: it was like it was a little bit colder, but
- 33:32Speaker 6: like not cold enough just to leave her out there.
- 33:34Speaker 6: So you know, we put so it's like eleven thirty
- 33:37Speaker 6: now and we're trying to find like, you know, places
- 33:40Speaker 6: that will do you know, twenty four seven cremation because
- 33:45Speaker 6: I felt so bad that she was just in the
- 33:47Speaker 6: box in there and nobody, nobody could come. So I
- 33:53Speaker 6: couldn't sleep in the bed that night.
- 33:55Speaker 3: Because how you know, how could I. So my husband
- 33:58Speaker 3: and I we slept on our couch together bar We
- 34:00Speaker 3: didn't sleep, but like that's where we you know, we
- 34:03Speaker 3: just hugged each other and just laid there until the
- 34:06Speaker 3: morning came up. And then my husband went outside and
- 34:11Speaker 3: I was making a lot of phone calls. My uh,
- 34:14Speaker 3: one of my best friends came over and she took
- 34:16Speaker 3: all of Ruby's toys and like put it in a
- 34:18Speaker 3: box and stuff because every time I looked at it
- 34:21Speaker 3: like just made me sick.
- 34:23Speaker 7: And so my husband, you know, it was calling like
- 34:29Speaker 7: a lot of like family members and stuff like that,
- 34:31Speaker 7: like I don't know what to do, like you know, And.
- 34:34Speaker 3: My husband came back inside and he was like there
- 34:36Speaker 3: was a hole in her face. And I was like,
- 34:40Speaker 3: I wonder what animal could have been then, like you know,
- 34:43Speaker 3: like what kind of like I'm just you know, me
- 34:45Speaker 3: being so naive and night and the same with my husband,
- 34:49Speaker 3: like like like a porcupine, like what kind of when?
- 34:52Speaker 1: You know, Like, so we were really at a loss.
- 34:57Speaker 3: And a family member that we called that I was
- 35:01Speaker 3: on the phone with, he said, why don't you put
- 35:05Speaker 3: me on the phone with Nick and tell Nick to
- 35:07Speaker 3: go outside? And I was like.
- 35:09Speaker 1: Why, why?
- 35:09Speaker 4: Why?
- 35:10Speaker 3: And Nick came back inside and he was like, I
- 35:14Speaker 3: think we should make her get her like an X
- 35:16Speaker 3: ray or something like cancel the pickup for for cremation
- 35:23Speaker 3: and let's see if we can get her in for
- 35:25Speaker 3: an X ray just for peace. Of mind to see
- 35:27Speaker 3: like what actually happened. And I was like okay, And
- 35:33Speaker 3: that phone call my husband had outside was him explaining
- 35:36Speaker 3: that sounds like my stepdad shot her, like just because
- 35:40Speaker 3: they went and like Nick facetimed, you know, to show
- 35:44Speaker 3: him the hole and stuff like that. Because I still
- 35:46Speaker 3: haven't seen any pictures of her like that.
- 35:48Speaker 2: I don't, you know, I couldn't.
- 35:50Speaker 1: Don't. I'm gonna just tell you now, don't.
- 35:53Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm not gonna. So we brought her to her
- 35:58Speaker 3: vet because the vet that my mind brought her to
- 36:01Speaker 3: uh wasn't giving us any answers because they checked Ruby
- 36:05Speaker 3: in under a different name, so we technically weren't the owners,
- 36:11Speaker 3: so we were we I was on a hold, but
- 36:14Speaker 3: the VET for like an that emergency that for like
- 36:16Speaker 3: an hour and a half to the point where I
- 36:18Speaker 3: called and beeped in on a blocked number and they
- 36:20Speaker 3: were like that you know, and I was like, yeah,
- 36:23Speaker 3: I've been on the phone for an hour and a
- 36:24Speaker 3: half with you guys, like what happened to my dog
- 36:26Speaker 3: that night? So anyway, we brought her to her bet
- 36:31Speaker 3: I can't tell.
- 36:31Speaker 1: You real quick just if you need this. Married to
- 36:35Speaker 1: my ex husband was an emergency room VET and I
- 36:38Speaker 1: was a VET tech there at the clinic. Oh boy,
- 36:41Speaker 1: they could have given you the information. This is is
- 36:45Speaker 1: not humans, this is not a hip a violation. Yeah, yeah,
- 36:49Speaker 1: they could have given you the information. But on their
- 36:53Speaker 1: given them grace. They may have suspected something was wrong
- 36:57Speaker 1: and they didn't want to get pulled into illegal.
- 37:00Speaker 3: At Oh for sure. I did hear chatter that, like
- 37:03Speaker 3: some workers there reached out to me saying I suspected.
- 37:06Speaker 3: I suspected. And you can't do anything if the person
- 37:10Speaker 3: bring you can't really do you can't retaliate against the
- 37:14Speaker 3: person bringing their dog in for something considering they and
- 37:17Speaker 3: that's a lot of people do.
- 37:19Speaker 2: With their names. Yeah that makes sense. I mean it
- 37:23Speaker 2: doesn't make sense, but yeah.
- 37:26Speaker 1: Okay, you were doing right by asking.
- 37:30Speaker 3: Yeah, so we ended up having to subpoena that information
- 37:33Speaker 3: to find out what happened. But but anyway, so you know,
- 37:37Speaker 3: I bring her, We bring it to the vet and
- 37:39Speaker 3: he was like, I could run an X ray. But
- 37:41Speaker 3: he was like, just by looking at her, there's no
- 37:43Speaker 3: signs of road rash, no signs of struggles. Like, let's
- 37:45Speaker 3: run an x ray. And then when the doctor came
- 37:48Speaker 3: out of you know, because we're all outside. It was me,
- 37:51Speaker 3: my husband Nick, and then my father in law had
- 37:54Speaker 3: came down.
- 37:54Speaker 1: To be their parents. They were with you.
- 37:57Speaker 3: Yeah, and on his face when he came out was like,
- 38:02Speaker 3: there's a bullet in there. And that's when he was like,
- 38:07Speaker 3: I'm going to call the cops. And then they were
- 38:09Speaker 3: all like taking pictures and the like. I just felt
- 38:11Speaker 3: like all the blood drained from my body and I
- 38:15Speaker 3: just felt like I don't even know what I felt.
- 38:18Speaker 3: They're just completely like numb and shock, Like I can't
- 38:21Speaker 3: like wondering, like you, how.
- 38:24Speaker 2: Do you prepare for that to be an option? No?
- 38:27Speaker 3: Exactly, yeah, exactly.
- 38:30Speaker 2: Let alone it was in the care of your parents, Like,
- 38:33Speaker 2: that's the last person I would ever think I would
- 38:38Speaker 2: do that.
- 38:38Speaker 6: It's my job.
- 38:40Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm sorry, awful.
- 38:43Speaker 3: Yeah, so that's what happened.
- 38:45Speaker 2: Goodness.
- 38:46Speaker 1: So when they told you it was a bullet you
- 38:49Speaker 1: had to I'm sure your first thought go to your stepdad. Yeah,
- 38:55Speaker 1: say that, why don't you tell us what your you
- 38:58Speaker 1: know a little bit about your step dad in his
- 39:01Speaker 1: collection of items?
- 39:03Speaker 3: Yes, so my stepfather is like the cops categorized this well,
- 39:09Speaker 3: they called him like a doomsday prepper, which fits him
- 39:13Speaker 3: kind of well. He is like a gun instructor. Like
- 39:18Speaker 3: in the police report, he just self described himself as
- 39:21Speaker 3: I'm a gun guy, like, you know, I know what
- 39:23Speaker 3: I'm doing a round a gun. Like he just is
- 39:27Speaker 3: very into that type of stuff, which I don't align
- 39:29Speaker 3: my ideal you know, my ideals with but like you
- 39:33Speaker 3: know that that was him and there was you know.
- 39:37Speaker 1: What, I was a gun trainer, so he knew gun.
- 39:39Speaker 3: Yes, yes, he was a firearms instructor exactly, so he
- 39:43Speaker 3: knew what to do, yes, exactly, and what not to
- 39:47Speaker 3: do and all thet.
- 39:48Speaker 2: It's like a billion times worse for him. That is
- 39:51Speaker 2: not going to go well for him in court.
- 39:54Speaker 1: That was the first thing that I thought of of.
- 39:56Speaker 2: Like, yeah, that's not good.
- 40:00Speaker 8: But yeah, So how did it feil to hear your
- 40:05Speaker 8: dog had been shot knowing it was with your stepdad
- 40:08Speaker 8: who you love, you adored, and as a gun instructor.
- 40:13Speaker 1: Yeah, it felt like it doesn't connect for me.
- 40:17Speaker 3: Yeah, it just was like I'm like, did they hide
- 40:20Speaker 3: this from me? Like there's no way my mom knew
- 40:23Speaker 3: about Like, like there's no way my mom like like
- 40:27Speaker 3: knew that this happens. Like she's definitely eating up whatever
- 40:30Speaker 3: story he's telling her, and she just running with it,
- 40:32Speaker 3: like like I just wanted to know everything what happened,
- 40:35Speaker 3: but my husband was like, don't contact them, like like,
- 40:38Speaker 3: let's just like brainstorm on what to do. And my
- 40:43Speaker 3: stepdad was texting Nick the next day. I still don't
- 40:46Speaker 3: get an apology from anyone in my family. But he
- 40:49Speaker 3: was texting Nick that he was more sick sick about
- 40:53Speaker 3: what happened than we were, and he thought that we
- 40:56Speaker 3: would all be crying together. So we just like kept
- 40:58Speaker 3: ignoring his messages. And when the cops got there, I said,
- 41:04Speaker 3: I can this is this the grounds for a restraining order?
- 41:08Speaker 3: Because now I'm scared, like like that was my my,
- 41:12Speaker 3: my best friend in the whole world, and I was
- 41:15Speaker 3: lied to. Now there's a bullet in her face, like
- 41:19Speaker 3: and he's got weapons at home, Like, let's like I
- 41:22Speaker 3: thought about.
- 41:22Speaker 1: My mom to reach out to apologize. He didn't reach
- 41:27Speaker 1: out to comfort you.
- 41:29Speaker 3: No, No, I didn't even I didn't get No. I
- 41:34Speaker 3: had to call my mom that morning before we brought
- 41:36Speaker 3: her to the VET, and I was like, we're bringing
- 41:38Speaker 3: her in for an autopsy and if there's foul play,
- 41:42Speaker 3: this is going to be a really big deal. So
- 41:44Speaker 3: what happened to my dog? And she was like nothing,
- 41:47Speaker 3: like an animal. I don't know what happened, you know,
- 41:49Speaker 3: so believe that she know.
- 41:52Speaker 2: I'm sorry, but she doesn't. I'm giving her what happened.
- 41:55Speaker 2: I'm damn well, that's why.
- 41:58Speaker 1: She do grace maybe to her, I am.
- 42:04Speaker 3: Yeah, so yeah, I still don't know what happens because
- 42:07Speaker 3: I got the restraining order approved and they're then all
- 42:10Speaker 3: communication had been cut on.
- 42:13Speaker 1: So call your mom and tell your mom that you
- 42:15Speaker 1: just had the autopsy done and they ruby had been shot.
- 42:20Speaker 3: No, no, so I wanted to. I wanted to.
- 42:26Speaker 1: But I will say, your husband is a very intelligent man,
- 42:31Speaker 1: isn't he. Yeah, he's supportive, but he is doing the
- 42:35Speaker 1: right thing by not having you contact her, because let
- 42:39Speaker 1: me tell you, I would have driven straight to their
- 42:41Speaker 1: house and I would be in jail right now raising
- 42:45Speaker 1: money to get me out.
- 42:48Speaker 3: Yes, I would help fillow you out too, I know,
- 42:50Speaker 3: like I'm people are like I would be like, we're
- 42:52Speaker 3: in that yellow, that orange jumpsuit with him, and you
- 42:55Speaker 3: know that's as much as you know that makes sense.
- 42:59Speaker 1: And like, how were the officers when they came to
- 43:02Speaker 1: the vet clinic.
- 43:04Speaker 3: They the officer was a badass woman. She cried with
- 43:11Speaker 3: me and then she got She literally was like I
- 43:14Speaker 3: got you, like, you know, we're gonna get your restraining
- 43:16Speaker 3: order approved. Like she was ten out of ten. The
- 43:20Speaker 3: cops kept me posted every step of the way when
- 43:22Speaker 3: they did the search, warn on their house and stuff
- 43:24Speaker 3: like that. They're like, where your parents are going to
- 43:26Speaker 3: be to night. They like kept in constant communication with
- 43:28Speaker 3: me because I called them every single day because the
- 43:32Speaker 3: arrest of my stepfather didn't happen until November three, So
- 43:36Speaker 3: I called that police station probably three times a day
- 43:39Speaker 3: for thirty one days, and they were so nice to me.
- 43:44Speaker 3: They were so nice to me, and I feel sad
- 43:47Speaker 3: not for people who don't have that same experience. I
- 43:49Speaker 3: don't know if it's because I'm in a small town
- 43:52Speaker 3: or something like that.
- 43:53Speaker 1: I think it's your state because I love that and
- 43:57Speaker 1: it means it can happen everywhere people hold on to
- 44:01Speaker 1: hope it happened there. It can happen.
- 44:04Speaker 2: Yeah goodness.
- 44:09Speaker 3: Uh so, yeah, they were great. They handled everything really swiftly,
- 44:13Speaker 3: like they sent out the you know, once the X
- 44:17Speaker 3: ray revealed that it was a bullet, they sent her
- 44:20Speaker 3: to the to the lab, to the ballistics lab in
- 44:24Speaker 3: that same night or I think within forty eight hours,
- 44:28Speaker 3: they confiscated all of his weapons from the house, right and.
- 44:34Speaker 1: And he and yeah, okay, I just need you to clarify.
- 44:38Speaker 1: He didn't have a couple of guns, guys. I mean,
- 44:40Speaker 1: I do live in Texas, and I do people with
- 44:43Speaker 1: a lot of guns. He had a lot of guns.
- 44:48Speaker 3: Yeahading rereading that report was something that really made my
- 44:52Speaker 3: jog on the floor because I knew that, you know,
- 44:55Speaker 3: that there was the house.
- 44:57Speaker 1: What if it was like a one year old daughter,
- 45:00Speaker 1: or I mean he also had large ammunition stuff. Yeah,
- 45:05Speaker 1: I have to tell you, I was reading it and
- 45:08Speaker 1: coming from a law enforcement you know, fabily, I was
- 45:10Speaker 1: like growing up in Texas, I'm like, okay, we never
- 45:14Speaker 1: had that much.
- 45:16Speaker 3: Yeah, there was definitely an excessive amount.
- 45:19Speaker 1: It was excessive, Lama.
- 45:21Speaker 2: I can't imagine he was happy about any of that,
- 45:25Speaker 2: because that's you like a restraining order, you can't have them.
- 45:29Speaker 2: I bet he was pissed.
- 45:31Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 45:32Speaker 3: So so yeah, and then the cops drove ound my
- 45:35Speaker 3: house every night to make sure that you know, he
- 45:38Speaker 3: wasn't you know, coming, you know, to because I knew.
- 45:42Speaker 3: I was like, I told the you know, law enforcement
- 45:45Speaker 3: that once you take his guns away, he's going to
- 45:47Speaker 3: be so mad at me, like you know, So they
- 45:49Speaker 3: drove by my house every night and they made sure
- 45:52Speaker 3: I was okay. So the experience I had with law
- 45:55Speaker 3: enforcement was like a very empathetic experience. My husband and I.
- 46:01Speaker 3: After she got send off to the ballistics lab, my
- 46:04Speaker 3: husband and I went into the door interview separately. You know,
- 46:07Speaker 3: with the detective, they try to call my mom numerous times.
- 46:11Speaker 3: She wouldn't answer the phone to be interviewed. Same with
- 46:14Speaker 3: the assistant, Same with my stepfather. So it took them
- 46:17Speaker 3: a whole month for the ballistics report to come back.
- 46:20Speaker 3: And then they arrested him on November three at his home.
- 46:24Speaker 3: And my first question was was my mom there to watch?
- 46:27Speaker 3: And they said yes, And I said, okay, good, So
- 46:29Speaker 3: she knows that that this is what happens, you know, Like,
- 46:33Speaker 3: you know, you can't get away with just being a
- 46:36Speaker 3: bad guy in lying and all this stuff, like and
- 46:39Speaker 3: you know, and again it's not me, it's it's you know,
- 46:42Speaker 3: the state of New Jersey versus him. But it would
- 46:44Speaker 3: be me, like if if the state didn't intervene of course,
- 46:47Speaker 3: but like you know, i'm the civil later. Yeah, I'm
- 46:50Speaker 3: not like controlling you know them.
- 46:53Speaker 2: Yeah, I want forgot to in the state's hands. You
- 46:55Speaker 2: have no say in anything. No, I don't. I mean
- 46:59Speaker 2: you could give them what I opinion you don't want.
- 47:01Speaker 2: They don't. They're not going to listen to you. They
- 47:03Speaker 2: don't exactly.
- 47:05Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm just a witness in the case. Now, sound
- 47:07Speaker 3: just like that's the thing, you know.
- 47:09Speaker 1: Like, what charges did they officially arrest him on.
- 47:15Speaker 3: They arrested him on this unlawful discharge of a firearm,
- 47:23Speaker 3: which is severe in New Jersey. Uh, animal cruelty, and
- 47:29Speaker 3: he had two illegal magazines. Again, I'm not really familiar
- 47:34Speaker 3: with guns. I think it's something that holds bullets and it's.
- 47:38Speaker 1: An excessive amount. It is something that is illegal because
- 47:42Speaker 1: you can fire off shots too quickly.
- 47:46Speaker 3: Yeah, so that's what they found.
- 47:48Speaker 1: Change.
- 47:50Speaker 3: Yeah, So those are the are the charges that he's facing.
- 47:53Speaker 3: And unfortunately, the animal cruelty crime is the least severe.
- 47:58Speaker 3: It's only a third degree time and the gun charges
- 48:04Speaker 3: is what's really helping the jail time on this case.
- 48:11Speaker 2: Can again, what year did this happen? I'm sorry recently.
- 48:15Speaker 3: Yeah, like.
- 48:19Speaker 2: I thought so. I thought so. But I just wanted
- 48:21Speaker 2: to clarify for myself and the audience as well that
- 48:24Speaker 2: this is very fresh in the state's investigation we have
- 48:29Speaker 2: going on here. Okay, I just wanted to clarify.
- 48:32Speaker 1: And I just wanted to clarify. I personally feel that
- 48:38Speaker 1: you shoot a small dog that is more than animal cruelty.
- 48:45Speaker 3: Oh definitely, no, Yeah, that's insane. So but then we
- 48:52Speaker 3: have third and fourth degree animal cruelty charge like doesn't
- 48:55Speaker 3: go doesn't do first or second. So yeah, I would
- 48:59Speaker 3: love to change that one day. But you know, one
- 49:01Speaker 3: thing at a time, one thing.
- 49:03Speaker 1: One thing at a time. You know.
- 49:05Speaker 2: I just know that that Ruby's case could set a
- 49:08Speaker 2: precedent if there's not one already there. You know. Yeah,
- 49:12Speaker 2: presidents are good for future cases for when they are
- 49:16Speaker 2: Hopefully I wish none of this would happen, but it's gonna. Yeah,
- 49:20Speaker 2: it's gonna, and maybe that could make a difference that
- 49:22Speaker 2: way for someone who.
- 49:24Speaker 3: Yeah, that's experiences. They hope if anything good can come
- 49:29Speaker 3: out of this, it's you know, it's that So.
- 49:33Speaker 1: Hold on to now he's arrested, this happens, I'm going
- 49:39Speaker 1: to be respectful and nice, which I told you off.
- 49:43Speaker 1: We're not going to talk about your mom because I
- 49:44Speaker 1: have my own opinions on that, being the mom who
- 49:48Speaker 1: has children who's been married and their step dad's in place.
- 49:53Speaker 1: But my acronym for her is not any better then
- 49:57Speaker 1: what your step dad.
- 49:59Speaker 2: But when it is today a Tuesday, is it a today?
- 50:02Speaker 1: Yes, see you next Tuesday.
- 50:04Speaker 3: Yes, there we go, yep, and I with that.
- 50:06Speaker 1: Yeah. Just but he got arrested and something that is
- 50:15Speaker 1: unusual to me, and we had to talk with Lama
- 50:18Speaker 1: earlier about because the state offered him a plea deal
- 50:22Speaker 1: and he has not been indicted yet, which I was like,
- 50:26Speaker 1: what because I didn't realize because in Texas what happened
- 50:31Speaker 1: it would be totally different. But in New Jersey he's
- 50:34Speaker 1: looking at potentially ten years.
- 50:37Speaker 2: Wow.
- 50:37Speaker 3: Yeah, like yeah, when it's not concurrent, like if you're
- 50:41Speaker 3: looking at all their charges put together, it's that.
- 50:45Speaker 1: They offered him a plea deal and then he turned
- 50:47Speaker 1: it down.
- 50:49Speaker 2: So yeah, well, I mean it's really not surprising. I mean,
- 50:51Speaker 2: I don't know the guy, but from the very few
- 50:53Speaker 2: things you said, he's not the type to just surrender
- 50:57Speaker 2: to the state's whim. If you will. I'm not surprised,
- 51:02Speaker 2: yeah at all about that now I think about it,
- 51:04Speaker 2: knowing all this other.
- 51:07Speaker 1: What was that like when he turned down the play deal.
- 51:12Speaker 3: So I in court that day. It was very quick,
- 51:16Speaker 3: and I was really surprised. I was disappointed because, like
- 51:20Speaker 3: I thought, of course, like you know, justice is like,
- 51:25Speaker 3: you know, punishment that matches the crime. No amount of
- 51:27Speaker 3: time in jail is going to be enough. But I
- 51:29Speaker 3: thought five years was a really big deal. And that's
- 51:33Speaker 3: what folks in the animal community at home were letting
- 51:36Speaker 3: me know too, that like like people don't get get
- 51:39Speaker 3: that much.
- 51:39Speaker 1: Exailtime five years. When I saw that, I was like,
- 51:43Speaker 1: you know what, I could go to bed every night,
- 51:46Speaker 1: I might have a pillow and I could feel justice
- 51:49Speaker 1: with something.
- 51:49Speaker 3: Yeah yeah, because you can't get back, yeah exactly. So
- 51:53Speaker 3: I was really hoping that he would take it, because
- 51:55Speaker 3: going to the thought of going to trial is just
- 51:58Speaker 3: like so daunting and oh my god, like is my
- 52:01Speaker 3: anxiety cut out for this? Like I can't have to
- 52:03Speaker 3: be strong and all these things. So I was disappointed,
- 52:06Speaker 3: and then I had my head spinning, like in what
- 52:09Speaker 3: world would it be rationalized or Okay if this went
- 52:13Speaker 3: to trial, that like his you know that he you know,
- 52:17Speaker 3: killed my dog. So just so many thoughts going through
- 52:19Speaker 3: my head, like is gonna get away with this? But
- 52:22Speaker 3: part of the reason why he turned it down, I
- 52:24Speaker 3: learned was because they were waiting for him to receive
- 52:29Speaker 3: the rest of the evidence packet that they had due
- 52:32Speaker 3: to the case. So maybe he wanted to see like
- 52:34Speaker 3: what he was, like, what he's up against it. So
- 52:39Speaker 3: so yeah, he.
- 52:40Speaker 1: Wants to know before I played guilty today, really have
- 52:44Speaker 1: the receipt?
- 52:44Speaker 3: Yeah, and we do.
- 52:47Speaker 2: So, I mean, this is what any defendant should be doing,
- 52:50Speaker 2: to be quite honest with you, I know, as a victim,
- 52:53Speaker 2: it sucks, yeah, you know, but if for anyone that
- 52:56Speaker 2: is a defendant, these are all exactly what they should
- 52:59Speaker 2: be doing.
- 53:00Speaker 3: We need to make sure that the well that makes
- 53:02Speaker 3: me feel better that it's like that's like the protocol.
- 53:05Speaker 3: I guess I'm.
- 53:08Speaker 2: Not a lawyer, but I feel like whatever his lawyer is, lawyer,
- 53:12Speaker 2: I'm basically a lawyer. Not just kidding. This does sound
- 53:16Speaker 2: like normal advice that a lawyer would give anybody, not
- 53:20Speaker 2: even just him, you know, is you can either take
- 53:23Speaker 2: a plea, which when you do that, you're pleading guilty.
- 53:26Speaker 2: There's no chance of appealing it at all. You're done.
- 53:29Speaker 2: Where if you say, with the trial and you're found guilty,
- 53:32Speaker 2: there's a lot more that can be done after the fact,
- 53:35Speaker 2: you know, because when you take it to trial, you
- 53:37Speaker 2: only need to convince one person that you didn't do it.
- 53:42Speaker 2: But I will tell you this, a lot of defendants
- 53:46Speaker 2: will wait until the very last minute and then last
- 53:50Speaker 2: minute take that plea deal. That is way more common.
- 53:53Speaker 2: That is, like, I forget the Is it like seven
- 53:56Speaker 2: percent of cases go to trial or something like that?
- 53:59Speaker 2: Oh wow, yeah, so there's still plenty of time day,
- 54:02Speaker 2: plenty of time is but I'm not surprised these choices.
- 54:09Speaker 2: They make my legal point of view.
- 54:11Speaker 1: From a legal standpoint, but as a human standpoint and
- 54:16Speaker 1: as a dad's standpoint.
- 54:18Speaker 2: I know.
- 54:21Speaker 1: I don't got grace for him anymore. I do not
- 54:25Speaker 1: have grace for him anymore. I don't know he did
- 54:27Speaker 1: the right thing in the justice system and balancing that.
- 54:32Speaker 1: So now that you have to potentially prepare for a
- 54:36Speaker 1: trial because I know you have a there's a court
- 54:39Speaker 1: date coming up in March, right, how is this emotionally
- 54:43Speaker 1: because I can't imagine that you were ever prepared to
- 54:47Speaker 1: emotionally handle this.
- 54:49Speaker 3: No. Emotionally, Oh my gosh, I have nightmares every single night.
- 54:53Speaker 3: I still haven't seen Ruby in any of my dreams,
- 54:55Speaker 3: and I'm hoping like one night. But I have nightmares
- 54:57Speaker 3: about my parents all the time, about me, like asking
- 55:01Speaker 3: them like why don't you know? Tell my mom? Like
- 55:03Speaker 3: why didn't Why don't you believe me? Like just all
- 55:05Speaker 3: this stuff that I think about at night. Emotionally, I
- 55:09Speaker 3: feel awful that this happens on my best friend's wedding day.
- 55:13Speaker 3: I like it overshadowed her day.
- 55:17Speaker 1: I you're supporting you.
- 55:19Speaker 3: Right, Yeah, she she's I don't watch.
- 55:24Speaker 1: She Yeah, she's a ride or die So I think
- 55:28Speaker 1: she's okay, nice, Yeah for sure.
- 55:31Speaker 3: And emotionally I think about like like what she's scared?
- 55:35Speaker 3: Like I think about this all like the time before
- 55:39Speaker 3: I go to bed. Like two weeks after it happened,
- 55:43Speaker 3: I went to the hospital for a stomach ulcer. I
- 55:46Speaker 3: was throwing up blood, so I just couldn't eat anything.
- 55:48Speaker 3: So it's just been you know, the sub days, Like
- 55:52Speaker 3: early on when this happened, I would want to pick
- 55:54Speaker 3: up the phone and call my mom and then remember
- 55:57Speaker 3: that I don't have her any work either because she
- 55:59Speaker 3: chose me Stepdad's side, So it really is emotionally it sucks.
- 56:07Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 56:08Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm gonna give you a tip. If you bite
- 56:11Speaker 1: your tongue when you're doing these shows, you don't cry
- 56:14Speaker 1: as much. I just now have blood in my mouth.
- 56:17Speaker 1: Oh no, on camera again.
- 56:21Speaker 3: I'm sorry, I keep.
- 56:25Speaker 1: Your story about your mom.
- 56:27Speaker 2: On the other hand, yeah, some people do. I feel
- 56:32Speaker 2: I will use some heartfelt apologies. I'm not surprised you're
- 56:35Speaker 2: not receiving anyone any of them right now, because again,
- 56:39Speaker 2: there is this pending court battle, and the state will
- 56:44Speaker 2: use anything against whomever. It doesn't matter. But I think
- 56:49Speaker 2: you know a lot maybe the I don't know what
- 56:51Speaker 2: the online consensus is or society's consensus on well it's
- 56:56Speaker 2: just an animal or whatever. I have not heard of
- 56:59Speaker 2: a a animal case like this being taken seriously where
- 57:04Speaker 2: somebody is offered a plea deal of five years like
- 57:07Speaker 2: that was shocking to me, the amount of time, Like
- 57:10Speaker 2: I didn't even know that was an option to be the.
- 57:13Speaker 1: Only time I've ever seen it is for animal fighting,
- 57:16Speaker 1: because that's something that happens in myself exactly, or a
- 57:22Speaker 1: family member. Because as I told you, when we talked
- 57:27Speaker 1: Nicole in Texas, and that's why I asked what kind
- 57:30Speaker 1: of dog did your parents have? Because I was like,
- 57:33Speaker 1: was it a pity? Was it a bully dog?
- 57:36Speaker 3: No, it was like a skate right.
- 57:39Speaker 1: Did your dad have a reason for self defense against
- 57:43Speaker 1: the dog? You know, I always try to give grace.
- 57:46Speaker 1: I always try to look on the other side. And
- 57:48Speaker 1: then when you told me it was well.
- 57:49Speaker 3: Cockapoo, was like, yeah, I'm running out all the time
- 57:56Speaker 3: to be able to to be able to give you
- 57:58Speaker 3: that yeah, yeah.
- 58:04Speaker 1: Oh but yeah, I'm just we're just gonna skip by.
- 58:11Speaker 1: I think I just have to ask, and I hate
- 58:14Speaker 1: to ask.
- 58:14Speaker 2: Oh, go ahead, Oh, I was just gonna say, you know,
- 58:17Speaker 2: to like, this is the state bringing charges? Okay, it
- 58:23Speaker 2: is not the DA, it's not you, all right, it's stable.
- 58:28Speaker 2: I just want to make that very clear with everyone
- 58:30Speaker 2: that the DA decided that this is something they want
- 58:34Speaker 2: to bring charges to. So if you have a problem,
- 58:37Speaker 2: maybe go talk to the DA, because why else should
- 58:41Speaker 2: they pick up this case. They're not going to This
- 58:44Speaker 2: is an animal. And I do not mean to downgrade
- 58:46Speaker 2: Ruby in any way, all right, but DA's aren't risking
- 58:50Speaker 2: their neck for animals for no bullshit reason. Okay, that
- 58:54Speaker 2: mis means and that's but there is some evidence here
- 58:57Speaker 2: that they want to bring charges. So just to let
- 59:00Speaker 2: whoever needs to hear that, now, that's how that works.
- 59:04Speaker 1: Yeah, just let you know, lady and Greg you're correct,
- 59:08Speaker 1: Grace went out the window because he didn't even try
- 59:11Speaker 1: to lie. And you know he didn't even try to lie.
- 59:15Speaker 1: Yeah he did.
- 59:17Speaker 2: Yeah, Oh, Kelly, she was just less than a year old.
- 59:22Speaker 1: She was less than a year old.
- 59:24Speaker 2: Chine out a baby.
- 59:26Speaker 1: But just how you're grieving the loss of Ruby, which
- 59:33Speaker 1: is unimaginable. Some of my friends give me a hard
- 59:38Speaker 1: time because when we like when I last lost my
- 59:40Speaker 1: Mickey six months, I was still crying and it was
- 59:43Speaker 1: a natural. Yeah, but I can't imagine grieving the lost
- 59:50Speaker 1: of your baby, your dog, and also grieving your family
- 59:54Speaker 1: relationships because how is this impacted? We know you've lost
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: relationship with your mom, what about your other family members?
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: Are they there to support youever you lost those as well?
- 1:00:08Speaker 3: My other family members have been great. They I really
- 1:00:12Speaker 3: lean on them.
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: Uh.
- 1:00:13Speaker 3: It's definitely brought me my dad closer, like you know,
- 1:00:17Speaker 3: on a you know, my dad and I who have
- 1:00:19Speaker 3: always been really close, like love my real dad, he's
- 1:00:22Speaker 3: the best, but he's in Florida, so we talk so
- 1:00:25Speaker 3: much more now and that's been nice. My husband, of
- 1:00:28Speaker 3: course has been my rock. But yeah, it's brought like
- 1:00:31Speaker 3: some family members that I haven't spoke to in a
- 1:00:34Speaker 3: while closer to me. So I'm very fortunate to like
- 1:00:38Speaker 3: lean on all these people and of course all my girlfriends,
- 1:00:41Speaker 3: they're the best. On Christmas Day, they put all gifts
- 1:00:46Speaker 3: underneath our tree and got us stockings, even my husbands,
- 1:00:50Speaker 3: because it would be like the first Christmas without like,
- 1:00:53Speaker 3: you know, all of our loved ones essentially. So just
- 1:00:56Speaker 3: very fortunate to have these people who see me, you know, So.
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: You're blessed that so many people are behind you.
- 1:01:08Speaker 2: That's what I was gonna say, Good John Terry. Yeah,
- 1:01:11Speaker 2: to have apar system like that, I'm so happy toeah, Yeah,
- 1:01:15Speaker 2: because it's this is just it's i know, all around
- 1:01:18Speaker 2: tragedy so far. Sorry, my boys at home, welcome home boys.
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: So I have to ask, and part of me doesn't
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: want to ask because I know my thoughts and I've
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: promised I will behave What do you say to people
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: who tell you it's just a dog and to move on.
- 1:01:41Speaker 3: I feel bad for them that they have never felt
- 1:01:45Speaker 3: love like that before, and I hope that they could
- 1:01:49Speaker 3: realize that dogs are like one of the only things
- 1:01:52Speaker 3: that love you more than they love anything else, and
- 1:01:56Speaker 3: they rely on us to keep them safe and when
- 1:02:00Speaker 3: we don't, we fail them and they can feel pain.
- 1:02:04Speaker 3: Their sentient beings. They the kind of love that they
- 1:02:08Speaker 3: give is unconditional. So it just I feel sorry for
- 1:02:12Speaker 3: them that they don't know that kind of love, you know.
- 1:02:14Speaker 3: And I you know, I respect everybody's opinion, and that's
- 1:02:17Speaker 3: what they think, then, you know, okay, But I don't mean.
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: I don't agree.
- 1:02:24Speaker 2: I mean a life is a life, yeah, you know. So,
- 1:02:31Speaker 2: And how other people view your relationship with your pets
- 1:02:35Speaker 2: of any kind or anybody, your relationship with anybody, I mean,
- 1:02:39Speaker 2: it's not their fucking business. So but no, you're right.
- 1:02:44Speaker 2: The fact that, like I, people that have never felt
- 1:02:47Speaker 2: that before, I hope that they do because I also
- 1:02:51Speaker 2: have animals, I also have a kid, I also have
- 1:02:53Speaker 2: a partner, and you know, we've had things happen with
- 1:02:57Speaker 2: our dogs is devastating. They become a part of you,
- 1:03:02Speaker 2: and especially when like you're their caretaker.
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: All right, we're with your whole world.
- 1:03:11Speaker 2: I'm sorry.
- 1:03:12Speaker 3: Yeah, you're going to.
- 1:03:13Speaker 2: Be able to go out into nature and like make it,
- 1:03:16Speaker 2: you know, absolutely dependent on you and caretakers. And that's
- 1:03:23Speaker 2: a vulnerability that even though it's an animals, it's one
- 1:03:28Speaker 2: that I think our relationship with animals need to be
- 1:03:32Speaker 2: more respected. There used to be a whole culture of
- 1:03:37Speaker 2: indigenous people who respected animals until some people came around.
- 1:03:42Speaker 2: But I've always thought that our connection with nature, our
- 1:03:46Speaker 2: connection with animals, is a healing one, just like you
- 1:03:50Speaker 2: mentioned how Ruby helped heal you and judge us. They
- 1:03:54Speaker 2: don't judge you. They're there to love you no matter what,
- 1:03:59Speaker 2: even if you are a prick, even though if that's
- 1:04:01Speaker 2: the case, you probably shouldn't have an animal. But even
- 1:04:04Speaker 2: if you were a prick, they would still like you.
- 1:04:07Speaker 2: So I very much. I get the connection that you
- 1:04:13Speaker 2: had with her, and also anybody that says it's just
- 1:04:15Speaker 2: a job, piss off.
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't know, he's just a prick.
- 1:04:23Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:04:24Speaker 1: I do want to bring up this comment only because
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: Letdy and Gray brings a point that we also have
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: to consider. Someone who does this is truly not stable.
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: And you're right, what if a kid made them mad?
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: But I know you and I talked offline and we
- 1:04:42Speaker 1: won't get into a lot of it. But you trusted
- 1:04:46Speaker 1: your dad, yeah, stepdad.
- 1:04:49Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: So I have a very good friend. She calls her
- 1:04:54Speaker 1: dad dad, and she goes her stepdad daddy, and that's
- 1:04:58Speaker 1: how she distinguishes the truth because she's like, I was
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: two years old when he became my stepdad, so they're both.
- 1:05:05Speaker 1: But you never would have left Ruby there if you
- 1:05:10Speaker 1: were worried about So it's not like there's a lot
- 1:05:14Speaker 1: of domestic violence in the background. You didn't go to
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: school with bruises on your face, you didn't have a mom.
- 1:05:22Speaker 1: So I'm guessing this was truly shocking.
- 1:05:26Speaker 3: Oh one doubt, Yeah, like draw on the floor like
- 1:05:30Speaker 3: a gut punch and always said that before. But just
- 1:05:33Speaker 3: the betrayal is the key word here, because betrayal comes
- 1:05:37Speaker 3: after you trust somebody, you know what I mean, Like
- 1:05:39Speaker 3: trust has to be established first in order to be betrayed.
- 1:05:43Speaker 3: So it's just shocking.
- 1:05:45Speaker 1: And did he have a history of any mental illness PTSD?
- 1:05:50Speaker 1: I'm like, he owned a lot of guns legally, he's
- 1:05:52Speaker 1: not guessing No.
- 1:05:54Speaker 3: Yeah, no, not that I know of, at least, you
- 1:05:56Speaker 3: know what I mean, I guess anything's possible, but now
- 1:05:58Speaker 3: and if anything was a red flag, I wouldn't have
- 1:06:02Speaker 3: left Ruby there any of the times they left her there.
- 1:06:05Speaker 2: And I mean to be honest, though, if there were
- 1:06:07Speaker 2: other things going on, I don't know if I would
- 1:06:10Speaker 2: even in fact her and my dog stay like I
- 1:06:12Speaker 2: STI wouldn't think anything would happen to my dog. Oh yeah, no,
- 1:06:15Speaker 2: like I wouldn't think anybody would shoot my fucking dog.
- 1:06:19Speaker 3: It's a little big, yes, especially.
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: Like my cata Hula, who's almost a one hundred pounds.
- 1:06:25Speaker 1: Who could hurt you? I mean if I came home
- 1:06:29Speaker 1: and somebody said I had to do that to Bo,
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: I would be like, oh my god, did he attack you?
- 1:06:34Speaker 1: Because he is a big dog. And that's why I
- 1:06:37Speaker 1: had to have trainers to make sure this isn't alby
- 1:06:40Speaker 1: French see, I know, yeah, they can't even lick their
- 1:06:44Speaker 1: own butts, these Frenchies.
- 1:06:45Speaker 3: Like, there's nothing like done that would warrant this. In
- 1:06:49Speaker 3: my opinion, I can't now.
- 1:06:53Speaker 1: I know we didn't talk about this, and if you
- 1:06:55Speaker 1: don't want to answer, you don't have to. How has
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: this made you re examine your childhood with your stepdad?
- 1:07:03Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 1:07:04Speaker 1: It's because I'm just wow, I would be I would
- 1:07:07Speaker 1: be going down a rabbit hole and long I would
- 1:07:10Speaker 1: be turning it into an eight episode situation.
- 1:07:17Speaker 3: I found out like a couple of things from like
- 1:07:21Speaker 3: you know, the circle of people that reached out to
- 1:07:23Speaker 3: me that were like closing my parents at one point,
- 1:07:25Speaker 3: Like I found out that the house that we moved
- 1:07:27Speaker 3: out of was actually foreclosed on, not that we were
- 1:07:31Speaker 3: just moving. Like, I like, there are some things that
- 1:07:33Speaker 3: came up that I wasn't aware of because I was
- 1:07:36Speaker 3: a kid when this stuff happens that yeah, my parents
- 1:07:39Speaker 3: don't always tell yeah and yeah yeah, so like some
- 1:07:43Speaker 3: things came up. But like it's definitely making me like
- 1:07:47Speaker 3: go back and wonder, Like, but I was always at
- 1:07:50Speaker 3: dance as a kid anyway. I always was at I
- 1:07:52Speaker 3: went from school to dance class and stuff like that,
- 1:07:54Speaker 3: So I didn't spend too much time at home for
- 1:07:57Speaker 3: me to even like I don't even remember, Like I'm
- 1:08:01Speaker 3: I really have like a memory? Should I feel like
- 1:08:03Speaker 3: when I go is that far? Like of course I
- 1:08:04Speaker 3: can remember like recent events and stuff like that. In
- 1:08:06Speaker 3: terms of my I don't know, No.
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: Obama can't even remember what time we're doing a show
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: on the day and we're.
- 1:08:16Speaker 2: Line of time one time.
- 1:08:19Speaker 1: I know what side, but I'm sake it happens to
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: all of us.
- 1:08:22Speaker 2: YEA. I asked you a question of feel free to
- 1:08:24Speaker 2: answer if you want to. You don't have to, But
- 1:08:27Speaker 2: do you think so you have you have no say
- 1:08:30Speaker 2: what the state is deciding to do. We've all made
- 1:08:32Speaker 2: that very clear. You have no state stake in that right.
- 1:08:35Speaker 2: And even when you called the police to go with
- 1:08:38Speaker 2: you and they had the dog, they said, do you
- 1:08:40Speaker 2: want you know this might be something? And you were
- 1:08:42Speaker 2: like no, no, no.
- 1:08:42Speaker 3: No, yeah.
- 1:08:44Speaker 2: What would you do if your parents I'm going to
- 1:08:47Speaker 2: call them both your parents for death fine, posterity sake care.
- 1:08:50Speaker 2: But what if they would have told you exactly what
- 1:08:53Speaker 2: had happened? Would you at that honesty, at that moment,
- 1:08:59Speaker 2: because I before you know that the cover up and
- 1:09:03Speaker 2: you having to figure out by doing an autopsy in
- 1:09:07Speaker 2: all of this, what if they would have told you
- 1:09:09Speaker 2: out right? I imagine there would still be some very
- 1:09:14Speaker 2: strong feelings about that. Of course, do you feel like
- 1:09:19Speaker 2: maybe there's a little bit more of an open road?
- 1:09:23Speaker 3: Yeah, I think about this, Yeah, I think about that.
- 1:09:26Speaker 3: That hypothetical, like he went down that road and they
- 1:09:29Speaker 3: had told me that straight up. And this is it's
- 1:09:32Speaker 3: hard because I was actually thinking about this like before
- 1:09:35Speaker 3: and like like last week. I don't know if I
- 1:09:39Speaker 3: would have known that calling the cops on that was
- 1:09:43Speaker 3: an option. If I'm being very honest, like in that
- 1:09:46Speaker 3: exact moment of them telling the truth to me and
- 1:09:49Speaker 3: that's what happened, I would not even probably consider that
- 1:09:54Speaker 3: that was an option because I see a lot of
- 1:09:56Speaker 3: folks in like my comments on like TikTok and stuff
- 1:09:59Speaker 3: like that, saying, oh, you know, similar happened thing to
- 1:10:01Speaker 3: me with my dad, like you know, shot my dog
- 1:10:03Speaker 3: right in front of me, all this stuff, and all
- 1:10:06Speaker 3: these people obviously, like you know, they grow up and
- 1:10:09Speaker 3: they either no contact with their family and stuff like that.
- 1:10:12Speaker 3: But no, nothing, no ramifications ever occurred. So if I
- 1:10:17Speaker 3: in that exact moment, I don't think that I would
- 1:10:19Speaker 3: have realized that that was an option, if that makes sense.
- 1:10:23Speaker 2: I've taken it from.
- 1:10:24Speaker 3: There and probably like talked to other people and then
- 1:10:30Speaker 3: maybe realized that it was an option and then pursue
- 1:10:32Speaker 3: that route myself. But but yeah, there, if if honesty
- 1:10:37Speaker 3: was what was led with, then there would have been
- 1:10:40Speaker 3: probably an inch more room for grace. But again coming
- 1:10:44Speaker 3: from a fire instructor firearms instructure. I even know the
- 1:10:47Speaker 3: five rules of firearm safety because I learned them after
- 1:10:52Speaker 3: this case. You know, after this happens and you're not
- 1:10:54Speaker 3: supposed to you know, why was the gunloaded in the house?
- 1:10:57Speaker 3: So many, so many questions that could have prevent and
- 1:11:00Speaker 3: did that accident, if it was an accident from happening.
- 1:11:03Speaker 3: So I don't think even that would be like any
- 1:11:08Speaker 3: more forgivable any less forgivable, if that makes sense. But
- 1:11:11Speaker 3: I think about what you brought black questions like very often.
- 1:11:15Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean that you can't go back to that place.
- 1:11:18Speaker 2: I mean, it just doesn't happen at this end of
- 1:11:20Speaker 2: the game. Now, that's not even like.
- 1:11:23Speaker 1: He was throught about it, because I do think about
- 1:11:27Speaker 1: I have a brother who's a cop, and there was
- 1:11:29Speaker 1: a time he owned multiple guns because he was a
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: law enforcement and he discharged a gun with cleaning it
- 1:11:37Speaker 1: because he had unloaded and cleaned seven or eight, and
- 1:11:41Speaker 1: he went to the last one and he thought he
- 1:11:43Speaker 1: had something distracted him and the gun went off. He
- 1:11:46Speaker 1: wound up shooting himself. But if the bullet would have
- 1:11:49Speaker 1: went a little bit further, it would have hit my
- 1:11:51Speaker 1: sister in law. Yeah, but if that situation, I would
- 1:11:55Speaker 1: picture that your dad would be like, oh my god,
- 1:11:57Speaker 1: I did this. I screwed up. I can't believe if
- 1:12:00Speaker 1: I did that. Yeah, he would be punishing himself way
- 1:12:04Speaker 1: more than the law ever could rights exactly. So in
- 1:12:10Speaker 1: my mind, that would be the only way I would
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: have been like.
- 1:12:14Speaker 3: Oh my yeah, the love of remorse is key here too,
- 1:12:17Speaker 3: for sure.
- 1:12:18Speaker 1: Yeah, he didn't even gall you into this day. He
- 1:12:21Speaker 1: hasn't spoken to.
- 1:12:22Speaker 3: You, has all because of what happened. We have the
- 1:12:26Speaker 3: protection order, we can't regardless. But yeah, but that didn't
- 1:12:32Speaker 3: affect my mom, you know, in the beginning, and you know,
- 1:12:35Speaker 3: I didn't hear from her, and so.
- 1:12:38Speaker 1: Only I'm going to give her because I'm trying as
- 1:12:42Speaker 1: a mom here and as a human I try every
- 1:12:45Speaker 1: day to be kind and lead with grace. Is that
- 1:12:48Speaker 1: there is something going on behind closed doors that.
- 1:12:52Speaker 3: You don't I don't think so, honestly, because I like
- 1:12:57Speaker 3: made sure. But the law enforcement before she's okay, she's yeah,
- 1:13:02Speaker 3: I did make right right?
- 1:13:05Speaker 1: Yes, So well, Mom, I'm sorry, you're screwed. My grase
- 1:13:11Speaker 1: just went out the window. Yeah, I was trying. I
- 1:13:15Speaker 1: was trying really hard to give her that. But you
- 1:13:18Speaker 1: know what, that says a lot about you that you
- 1:13:22Speaker 1: asked and thought about making sure she was okay and
- 1:13:25Speaker 1: that she wasn't in danger.
- 1:13:27Speaker 3: Yeah. I definitely felt a lot of emotions, like early on,
- 1:13:31Speaker 3: like in the case and still now, but like when
- 1:13:33Speaker 3: things were just I was like, yeah, I'm like, that's
- 1:13:36Speaker 3: my mom.
- 1:13:36Speaker 1: Like at least wasn't she friend? Yeah, remind me if
- 1:13:40Speaker 1: I'm correct. Didn't you and your mom like FaceTime almost daily?
- 1:13:44Speaker 3: Why?
- 1:13:44Speaker 1: Ruby?
- 1:13:44Speaker 2: Oh my god?
- 1:13:45Speaker 3: Yeah, every time every morning I woke up, I would
- 1:13:49Speaker 3: FaceTime her and then I would put the phone against
- 1:13:51Speaker 3: Ruby and I would be getting ready for work in
- 1:13:53Speaker 3: the morning. Every morning, you know, I'd be like talk
- 1:13:55Speaker 3: to Gigi on the phone, so they would just be
- 1:13:57Speaker 3: talking to each other and I'd be getting ready for work.
- 1:14:01Speaker 3: And yeah, she would buy her. She bought Ruby like
- 1:14:06Speaker 3: like every holidays, like Easter basket and all this stuff.
- 1:14:09Speaker 3: Like she even joked about getting me a stroller for
- 1:14:13Speaker 3: Ruby and disguising her as like a baby so I
- 1:14:15Speaker 3: could bring her more places. Like she was very much
- 1:14:19Speaker 3: aware about how much I was enamored with with her,
- 1:14:23Speaker 3: So and if.
- 1:14:24Speaker 1: I was older, I would offer to be your mom,
- 1:14:27Speaker 1: but I'm not quite old old, not.
- 1:14:30Speaker 2: That old, but that it was my judging face the
- 1:14:33Speaker 2: whole time.
- 1:14:34Speaker 3: Yeah, judging is welcome.
- 1:14:37Speaker 1: Yes, as moms and in step parents situations, I can
- 1:14:43Speaker 1: tell you we both would have made very different choices
- 1:14:45Speaker 1: and decisions.
- 1:14:46Speaker 2: Yeah, let me get out of my West Roast shame bell,
- 1:14:49Speaker 2: because that's what I'd be doing. Yeah, bringing the shame bell. Yeah, goodness, Well, Nicole,
- 1:14:55Speaker 2: what can we or our community or anyone listening anywhere,
- 1:15:00Speaker 2: what can we do to support you and the cause
- 1:15:03Speaker 2: for Justice for Ruby at this point in the events.
- 1:15:09Speaker 3: Yeah, I think that I have this saying that I
- 1:15:11Speaker 3: hold on to. That's like people die twice. They die
- 1:15:16Speaker 3: the first time when when their you know body you
- 1:15:19Speaker 3: know leaves this earth, and then the second time they
- 1:15:21Speaker 3: die is when the last time their name is ever spoken.
- 1:15:24Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, that's what I say all the time
- 1:15:25Speaker 2: to really, Yes.
- 1:15:27Speaker 1: That's what it says.
- 1:15:29Speaker 2: Yes, crazy last person that remembers you, because it's crazy.
- 1:15:38Speaker 2: That's how I like to look at death anyway.
- 1:15:40Speaker 1: Yeah, And we did share the website for Justice for
- 1:15:43Speaker 1: Ruby chat for people because I know there's a petition
- 1:15:47Speaker 1: there yeah.
- 1:15:48Speaker 3: So I need to update that website because I did
- 1:15:50Speaker 3: get the petition passed, which is great, so I guess.
- 1:15:54Speaker 1: It has been passed for sure.
- 1:15:56Speaker 3: Yeah, so I got animal canion. Animal Cruelty Awareness Day
- 1:16:02Speaker 3: has been sponsored to be a national holiday, not like
- 1:16:05Speaker 3: a holiday, but like a recognized day, and I got
- 1:16:10Speaker 3: the Senate to sponsor it, which is great. Working on
- 1:16:13Speaker 3: more like bills and stuff behind the scenes. I don't
- 1:16:16Speaker 3: want to share too much and get people excited because
- 1:16:19Speaker 3: built like laws can take more times to get past,
- 1:16:22Speaker 3: but I am working on that. So I guess my
- 1:16:24Speaker 3: call to action would be just, you know, speak about
- 1:16:28Speaker 3: Ruby and perhaps donate to your local shelter, like in
- 1:16:34Speaker 3: her name or in you know, somebody in your community's
- 1:16:36Speaker 3: name who went through a similar struggle, and just hold
- 1:16:40Speaker 3: your dogs and animals tight. And that's kind of my
- 1:16:44Speaker 3: call to action. I'm just I don't want anything from anybody.
- 1:16:47Speaker 3: I don't have like a golfund me or anything like that.
- 1:16:49Speaker 3: I just really want to I am disappointed in myself
- 1:16:54Speaker 3: that it took this happening to my dog for me
- 1:16:57Speaker 3: to be this passionate about helping other dogs and animals,
- 1:17:01Speaker 3: So do not feel.
- 1:17:02Speaker 1: Bad about yourself because I tell people all the time
- 1:17:05Speaker 1: until something happens to you, yeah, it's not on our radar.
- 1:17:10Speaker 3: Yeah, so now it's very much on my radar.
- 1:17:13Speaker 2: So just I mean, it doesn't mean that you didn't
- 1:17:16Speaker 2: care in the first place, but you know, no, I know, yeah, yeah,
- 1:17:20Speaker 2: you hear about things, but then when you finally experience it,
- 1:17:23Speaker 2: it really you're like, oh, now I understand what everyone's
- 1:17:27Speaker 2: been talking about. You know exactly that unfortunately comes with experience,
- 1:17:35Speaker 2: good or bad.
- 1:17:37Speaker 1: Good bad. I have to laugh because Ruby is chewing
- 1:17:41Speaker 1: on the broccoli stuffy. We gave one to my dog Bear.
- 1:17:48Speaker 1: He will not touch it, will not look at it,
- 1:17:51Speaker 1: and I have said it's because he knows his mama
- 1:17:54Speaker 1: doesn't like broccoli.
- 1:17:56Speaker 3: Yeah. We got that toy as a hand me down
- 1:17:58Speaker 3: because another person from Barth their dog didn't like it.
- 1:18:01Speaker 3: So Ruby got inherited it and she.
- 1:18:03Speaker 1: By the dog Bear would look at it and he
- 1:18:06Speaker 1: would just go uh uh.
- 1:18:07Speaker 2: I'm like yeah, right, yes, I mean, go ahead, go ahead. Oh.
- 1:18:15Speaker 2: I was just going to say, you know that any
- 1:18:17Speaker 2: being in any sort of legal battle is exhausting, and
- 1:18:22Speaker 2: especially the feelings of what comes next the unknown, right
- 1:18:26Speaker 2: because justice moves slow. The courts move slow. You may
- 1:18:31Speaker 2: not get this may not be resolved for a couple
- 1:18:34Speaker 2: of years, you know, But I do feel again, I
- 1:18:42Speaker 2: just expect spectating over here, all right, I'm just a spectator.
- 1:18:47Speaker 2: But I think between the fact that wanted to dog
- 1:18:51Speaker 2: that's not going to do well for him in front
- 1:18:52Speaker 2: of a jury. The fact that he was specifically trained
- 1:18:58Speaker 2: in firearms meaning should be very careful with your guns
- 1:19:03Speaker 2: is not going to go well in front of a jury. Yeah.
- 1:19:05Speaker 2: It never does, and I wouldn't be surprised. I mean,
- 1:19:09Speaker 2: maybe they'll take it the trial, but I'm gonna go
- 1:19:13Speaker 2: with probably not because how how does one from a
- 1:19:16Speaker 2: defense standpoint sway a jury? Because it does at this point,
- 1:19:23Speaker 2: and again, I mean, no offense to this sweet little Ruby,
- 1:19:26Speaker 2: even if the jury is like it's just a dog.
- 1:19:30Speaker 2: The fact that he was so irresponsible with a firearm
- 1:19:33Speaker 2: when he knows how it should be is gonna be
- 1:19:38Speaker 2: what bites him in the ass. Yeah, in my opinion, agreed,
- 1:19:43Speaker 2: But I think with because they're going to show all
- 1:19:46Speaker 2: of Ruby's pictures and how do you as a human
- 1:19:50Speaker 2: being not see that and be like, well, oh my gosh,
- 1:19:53Speaker 2: that's the cutest dog. I've ever seen ever. You know.
- 1:19:58Speaker 1: What you would say say.
- 1:20:02Speaker 3: But for her?
- 1:20:04Speaker 1: Yeah, what would Ruby say? Let's give her some words.
- 1:20:10Speaker 3: Probably that like not to give up and that she
- 1:20:13Speaker 3: loves me. I spoke a pet medium, like a medium
- 1:20:16Speaker 3: donated her time to me, which you know, I accepted
- 1:20:21Speaker 3: the appointment, and she uh she told me that, like Ruby, uh,
- 1:20:26Speaker 3: that that I shouldn't be so sad all the time.
- 1:20:29Speaker 3: So I think that's what she would say to me.
- 1:20:31Speaker 2: Well, listen, grief is never swift. Yeah, it's not. Grief
- 1:20:35Speaker 2: lasts a long time. Grief is where love goes when
- 1:20:41Speaker 2: like it doesn't, it's when love has nowhere to go.
- 1:20:44Speaker 2: It's what I'm saying. You know, you got all of
- 1:20:46Speaker 2: this love and you have nowhere to put it right
- 1:20:49Speaker 2: now totally, and and that just means you love tooheartedly,
- 1:20:53Speaker 2: right because it's the dichotomy of life. If you in
- 1:20:58Speaker 2: order to lose something, you're gonna have to love it.
- 1:21:00Speaker 2: And I think that the journey that you're on, I
- 1:21:05Speaker 2: feel like good things are going to come out of this,
- 1:21:07Speaker 2: not only for Ruby, but the awareness for the future
- 1:21:12Speaker 2: of animal rights because you know, when Terry brought this
- 1:21:16Speaker 2: to me, I was like, I don't I don't know
- 1:21:17Speaker 2: shit about animals, and well, you know, I didn't even
- 1:21:22Speaker 2: know that this was a fetus.
- 1:21:24Speaker 1: Just like this would not be happening in town. This
- 1:21:28Speaker 1: would not be happening.
- 1:21:30Speaker 2: So I hope you continue on with the movement that
- 1:21:33Speaker 2: you have been. I know we're more than happy to
- 1:21:35Speaker 2: support you know wherever this journey takes you, and I'll
- 1:21:40Speaker 2: definitely be keeping an eye on.
- 1:21:44Speaker 3: This while thank you.
- 1:21:45Speaker 1: I need to know the trial date because we're going
- 1:21:48Speaker 1: to need to file paperwork for it to be live streamed.
- 1:21:52Speaker 3: Oh yes, I will absolutely keep because I need see
- 1:21:56Speaker 3: Kelly p just said I would love for us to stream.
- 1:21:59Speaker 1: I would love to see y'all Stepdad, who I have
- 1:22:04Speaker 1: labeled a POS and people who follow our channel. No,
- 1:22:07Speaker 1: that's not good. I would love to see him try
- 1:22:10Speaker 1: to worm his way out of this and say, oh
- 1:22:13Speaker 1: I coughed, Oh I had a kidney stone pain, or
- 1:22:17Speaker 1: oh I drink too much Jim Bean, I would really love.
- 1:22:22Speaker 2: Those are all horrible defenses. He might not go on
- 1:22:25Speaker 2: the stand and say any of those.
- 1:22:26Speaker 1: He's what else does he have. It's not like he
- 1:22:29Speaker 1: feared for his life. It wasn't you know, Ruby wasn't
- 1:22:34Speaker 1: attacking the other dog. He ain't got nothing else.
- 1:22:38Speaker 3: Yeah, my pet spends about all the possible outcomes and
- 1:22:41Speaker 3: stuff like that. So I'll be sure to keep everybody posted.
- 1:22:45Speaker 2: And you know, hopefully you know again, I yeah, I
- 1:22:49Speaker 2: do hope that in some way in the future, if
- 1:22:51Speaker 2: it's ever possible, that there's an ability to reconcile in
- 1:22:57Speaker 2: some way, shape or form, if it's even possible. Well,
- 1:23:00Speaker 2: but you know, I'm glad to hear that you are
- 1:23:01Speaker 2: the support that you also are taking care of you know,
- 1:23:06Speaker 2: yourself as well. I can't imagine, you know, also, of
- 1:23:11Speaker 2: having agoraphobia, that this this would be something that would
- 1:23:14Speaker 2: set me back. And I don't know if it's set
- 1:23:16Speaker 2: you back. I'm sure to some degree it has. But
- 1:23:20Speaker 2: the love that you fell from Ruby, that helped you
- 1:23:23Speaker 2: out of that really dark lost place, all right, You're
- 1:23:28Speaker 2: you are going to find that again, Okay, because now
- 1:23:31Speaker 2: you know it's possible, even if some people say it's
- 1:23:35Speaker 2: just the dog. Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:23:38Speaker 1: And the fact that you have Nick your husband, because
- 1:23:42Speaker 1: oh yeah, I have so many friends whose husbands would
- 1:23:45Speaker 1: be oh, it's just a dog. Nick. I've seen some
- 1:23:48Speaker 1: stuff with Nick and we've talked. Nick is just like
- 1:23:52Speaker 1: you y'all are on the same page camera his baby girl.
- 1:23:58Speaker 3: It really was like the sweetest relationship the three of
- 1:24:03Speaker 3: us had. Ruby made us into a family, you know.
- 1:24:05Speaker 3: So we were like missing our third you know, our
- 1:24:08Speaker 3: pac member now just like me and Nick. You know.
- 1:24:11Speaker 3: So it sucks.
- 1:24:11Speaker 2: Yeah, it s But you guys have a whole lot
- 1:24:14Speaker 2: of love to give and you will find a please
- 1:24:17Speaker 2: to give that love. It will happen.
- 1:24:20Speaker 1: You have more than po wes And I'm gonna call
- 1:24:23Speaker 1: her asshat. You have more going for you than they do.
- 1:24:27Speaker 3: Thank you for saying that.
- 1:24:29Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 1:24:30Speaker 1: Is there anything you would like to say to anybody
- 1:24:33Speaker 1: before we wrap up and give our closing thoughts.
- 1:24:37Speaker 3: The only thing I would have to say is thank
- 1:24:39Speaker 3: you for like hearing me out and speaking with me.
- 1:24:43Speaker 3: And if you are a victim of a similar crime,
- 1:24:45Speaker 3: I do have a support group I made with another
- 1:24:48Speaker 3: woman on TikTok who was a victim of a similar
- 1:24:51Speaker 3: crime of her boyfriends retaliated against her and killed her dog.
- 1:24:59Speaker 3: And we we have a support group on Facebook. It's
- 1:25:01Speaker 3: called for Harmony. If you are harmony, and you could
- 1:25:05Speaker 3: join the Facebook group and it's like fifteen of us
- 1:25:10Speaker 3: and we just are there for each other, and we
- 1:25:13Speaker 3: share pictures of our dogs and tell our stories and stuff.
- 1:25:15Speaker 3: So if you need help, that's not alone.
- 1:25:17Speaker 2: Nice exactly. I'm such a huge tripona of peer support groups.
- 1:25:22Speaker 2: They really do wonders. Yeah, they do well. Thank you
- 1:25:26Speaker 2: so much, Nicole.
- 1:25:28Speaker 3: Thanks for having me.
- 1:25:29Speaker 1: Guys and Mama, I'm gonna put this out there and
- 1:25:33Speaker 1: you can kill me later because I do follow your
- 1:25:36Speaker 1: social media's and I do see some of the sorry,
- 1:25:41Speaker 1: absolute horrific things people say. Yeah, I just want to
- 1:25:46Speaker 1: go on the record right now to everybody. If you
- 1:25:48Speaker 1: want to email me, if you want to go on
- 1:25:50Speaker 1: my socials, and if you want to give me shit,
- 1:25:52Speaker 1: go for it. I'm here for it. But the comments
- 1:25:56Speaker 1: that you are trying to make money off this, that
- 1:26:00Speaker 1: you are trying to make this into more, I hope
- 1:26:07Speaker 1: gets them, because nobody should be in this situation. We
- 1:26:13Speaker 1: hear those comments for people who have children, missing family
- 1:26:17Speaker 1: meversus murdered, and we hear this ship and you know what,
- 1:26:21Speaker 1: I say this to those people too, until your ass
- 1:26:24Speaker 1: is in this actual scene, shut the f up, yecause
- 1:26:30Speaker 1: the public pressure what you need to do to get
- 1:26:33Speaker 1: through each day.
- 1:26:35Speaker 2: Yeah, I will quote my favorite defense attorney. Their words
- 1:26:38Speaker 2: are trash. Your honor objection, their words are trash.
- 1:26:42Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, that's how I feel to it. The public
- 1:26:47Speaker 3: pressure is something that is really also like not like
- 1:26:50Speaker 3: saving this case because it's already.
- 1:26:53Speaker 1: It's hard for mental I'm sorry. That is hard to
- 1:26:56Speaker 1: mentally take. Being on social media, it's hard to take.
- 1:27:00Speaker 3: Yeah, so yeah, this is embarrassing.
- 1:27:04Speaker 2: My way find me on social media.
- 1:27:07Speaker 1: Yeah, and them my way tell them to reach out
- 1:27:10Speaker 1: to me. Because I even warm my necklace that my
- 1:27:12Speaker 1: best friend gave me that says be kind and you
- 1:27:15Speaker 1: pull because that's my saying. You pull it out and
- 1:27:17Speaker 1: it says a bitch. Yeah, like it kind of a bitch.
- 1:27:21Speaker 3: I need to get myself when I like that.
- 1:27:24Speaker 1: Because people just like to be mean to others. But
- 1:27:27Speaker 1: thank you so much, and thank you. Hold on to
- 1:27:30Speaker 1: your husband, hold on to your friends. I love that
- 1:27:33Speaker 1: your best friend is supporting you because she's like, you
- 1:27:37Speaker 1: know what, my wedding, I got married, My wedding was good.
- 1:27:40Speaker 1: I'm here for you.
- 1:27:42Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm really lucky in those aspects. So thank you
- 1:27:45Speaker 3: so much for chatting with me. And it was very
- 1:27:48Speaker 3: cathartic to be here. A lot of these things I
- 1:27:50Speaker 3: haven't said out loud. So thank you.
- 1:27:52Speaker 2: You're welcome and you're always welcome back.
- 1:27:54Speaker 1: Nicole, just messages you can come back. I do need
- 1:27:59Speaker 1: to know what happens the day of court, so oh
- 1:28:02Speaker 1: make sure immediately.
- 1:28:04Speaker 2: Yeah, you need me to read things, you let me know.
- 1:28:07Speaker 3: Oh, you'll be hearing from me.
- 1:28:10Speaker 1: Lama, any final rant since I.
- 1:28:13Speaker 2: Gave mine no no, no final rants. I think I've
