- 0:00Speaker 1: I'm Sarah Strickland. US President Donald Trump says he's thinking
- 0:04Speaker 1: about renaming Lake Ontario as Lake America. It's reminiscent of
- 0:09Speaker 1: Trump's unilateral action last year by executive order to rename
- 0:13Speaker 1: the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America. Trump
- 0:16Speaker 1: says he's considering the latest name change because his administration
- 0:20Speaker 1: doesn't expect to be doing much business with Ontario anymore.
- 0:24Speaker 1: Yesterday saw Ontario Premier Doug Ford and Trump trade insults
- 0:28Speaker 1: in the media as the US trade war escalates. The
- 0:33Speaker 1: Single Parent Association is still seeking donations of school supplies
- 0:37Speaker 1: to help meet unusually high demand. Executive director Danielle Seawards
- 0:42Speaker 1: says she's never seen demand as high as it is
- 0:45Speaker 1: this year.
- 0:46Speaker 2: It's reaching record breaking the wholes, to be quite honest,
- 0:49Speaker 2: and we're doing what we can to keep off. Of course,
- 0:52Speaker 2: there's only so much we can do, but our goal
- 0:55Speaker 2: is to help as many people as possible, So you know,
- 0:57Speaker 2: donations have been coming in and we've been really fortunate
- 1:00Speaker 2: in that we've already been able to help over nine
- 1:03Speaker 2: hundred children across the province, which on a normal year
- 1:08Speaker 2: would be the highest we normally do. But This year
- 1:10Speaker 2: is a little bit different.
- 1:12Speaker 1: She says, this year has seen exceptional demand and they're
- 1:15Speaker 1: in the process of collecting last minute donations for distribution.
- 1:19Speaker 1: Going in their favor this year is the fact that
- 1:21Speaker 1: the school year is starting relatively late, so we've.
- 1:24Speaker 2: Got an extra week to work with and we're in
- 1:28Speaker 2: the process right now of collecting as many last minute
- 1:30Speaker 2: donations as we can, just to make sure that we're
- 1:33Speaker 2: sending all the kids back to school with the tools.
- 1:35Speaker 1: Details on what's needed and how to make a donation
- 1:38Speaker 1: can be found at vocm dot com. A Montreal based
- 1:43Speaker 1: real estate investment and development firm has purchased the Village
- 1:46Speaker 1: shopping center in Saint John's. The company has been purchasing
- 1:50Speaker 1: shopping centers across Canada over the last few years and
- 1:54Speaker 1: is already working on leasing out empty space in the
- 1:56Speaker 1: four hundred twenty seven five hundred square foot building. The Village,
- 2:00Speaker 1: located at Topsail Road in Columbus Drive, had lost a
- 2:03Speaker 1: growing number of retail tenants in recent years. LAAD says
- 2:07Speaker 1: its portfolio includes residential, commercial and industrial properties strategically managed
- 2:13Speaker 1: to maximize value and deliver returns. The company says it
- 2:17Speaker 1: takes pride in identifying opportunities where others see challenges. Canadian
- 2:23Speaker 1: artists will soon be able to register for the chance
- 2:26Speaker 1: to represent the country at the twenty twenty seven Eurovision
- 2:29Speaker 1: Song Contest in Bulgaria. Registration opens on August thirty first
- 2:34Speaker 1: through CBC Regio Canada's Eurovision portal and runs until September night.
- 2:39Speaker 1: The artists will make history as the first to represent
- 2:42Speaker 1: Canada at the international music competition, which has helped propel
- 2:46Speaker 1: the careers of several major artists. Canadian superstar Celine Dion
