- 0:04Speaker 1: Hello, friends from across the nation and around the world.
- 0:08Speaker 1: I'm Martin, and you are listening to Dad's bedtime Stories. Tonight,
- 0:12Speaker 1: we're going to head back to a universe we haven't
- 0:15Speaker 1: visited in a while unless you listen to the compilation
- 0:19Speaker 1: episode on the weekend, of course, the Magic Library. I
- 0:24Speaker 1: had a couple suggestions that made me think about this
- 0:28Speaker 1: entire universe again, and that's why we're getting to it.
- 0:31Speaker 1: So let's check out the first one here.
- 0:34Speaker 2: Hi, my name is Hannah. I'm from Westminster, Colorado, and
- 0:39Speaker 2: I'm eight years old, and I was like a story
- 0:43Speaker 2: of suggestion for the Magic Library series, where did you
- 0:49Speaker 2: go into a spacebook and you brought like a pencil
- 0:52Speaker 2: and a raser with you and these alien guys they
- 0:56Speaker 2: get your eraser from them from you, and they erase
- 1:01Speaker 2: the pages of the story and then you have to
- 1:05Speaker 2: stop them.
- 1:06Speaker 3: Bye.
- 1:06Speaker 2: I love your podcast.
- 1:08Speaker 1: Well, Hannah, thank you very much for that idea. I
- 1:11Speaker 1: think it's a great one and a great reason to
- 1:12Speaker 1: get back into this series that I really haven't done
- 1:14Speaker 1: in a while. But I know a lot of people
- 1:16Speaker 1: liked at the time. I also want to give a
- 1:20Speaker 1: big shout out to somebody else who wrote in and
- 1:22Speaker 1: made me kind of want to do this episode. Amala.
- 1:26Speaker 1: Amala wrote in asking for a spaceship episode where you
- 1:29Speaker 1: go to a planet with books that kind of suck
- 1:31Speaker 1: you in, and I thought that sounds a lot like
- 1:34Speaker 1: the Magic Library. Why don't we just do a Magic
- 1:36Speaker 1: Library episode? So, Amala, this one is for you as well.
- 1:41Speaker 1: If you like the podcast and want it to continue,
- 1:45Speaker 1: there's a lot of ways to support. Number one, rating
- 1:47Speaker 1: and reviewing it goes a long way. Number two, sharing
- 1:51Speaker 1: it with a friend, or even number three. You can
- 1:54Speaker 1: join us on Patreon, where you can get ad free episodes,
- 1:58Speaker 1: episodes free of like this possible one that helps support
- 2:02Speaker 1: the podcast. Now it's time to close your eyes, get
- 2:08Speaker 1: as comfy as you can in that bed, and imagine
- 2:11Speaker 1: yourself doing what the kid in the story does. Now,
- 2:17Speaker 1: if you listen to the other Magic Library stories, then
- 2:20Speaker 1: you already know how this works. Somewhere in your room,
- 2:25Speaker 1: hidden in plain sight, is a very special key, a
- 2:30Speaker 1: key that can open a doorway to a place full
- 2:33Speaker 1: of endless books, endless adventures, and stories that don't just
- 2:39Speaker 1: sit on the page. There, because in the Magic Library,
- 2:44Speaker 1: the stories come to life. And tonight you're gonna step
- 2:49Speaker 1: into one of them once again. You find yourself sitting
- 2:54Speaker 1: in your very own room on a day that feels
- 2:58Speaker 1: kind of slow. There's nothing wrong, exactly, but it's just
- 3:02Speaker 1: one of those days where nothing seems exciting, the weather's
- 3:07Speaker 1: not all that inviting, and you've already done most of
- 3:11Speaker 1: the things you like doing. You look around your room
- 3:15Speaker 1: wondering what should come next, and then you see it,
- 3:20Speaker 1: resting right where you left It is the old key,
- 3:25Speaker 1: the key to the magic library. You'd almost forgotten about it. Immediately,
- 3:33Speaker 1: your day starts to feel like it might be getting
- 3:36Speaker 1: a little more interesting. You get up off of your bed,
- 3:42Speaker 1: walk over to the key and pick it up in
- 3:44Speaker 1: your hand. It feels cool and heavy, but important. You
- 3:52Speaker 1: walk to a clear section of the wall in your
- 3:54Speaker 1: room and hold the key out toward it. Just before
- 3:59Speaker 1: the key touches the wall, a magical keyhole appears. Oh well,
- 4:06Speaker 1: you say to yourself, that's still pretty amazing. You slide
- 4:10Speaker 1: the key into the keyhole and turn it. There's a click,
- 4:15Speaker 1: and at once a glowing outline of a door appears
- 4:19Speaker 1: in the wall, along with a little doorknob. You grab
- 4:24Speaker 1: a hold of the doorknob, pull it open and reveal
- 4:29Speaker 1: a secret passageway, one that you know leads to the library.
- 4:35Speaker 1: You grin and step inside. Down the stairs through a
- 4:40Speaker 1: long stone hallway until you finally come to a great
- 4:45Speaker 1: wooden door at the end. You grab the handle, pull
- 4:50Speaker 1: it open, and step inside the magic Library. It's just
- 4:56Speaker 1: as incredible as ever. Books lide in the walls in
- 5:01Speaker 1: every direction, stacked on shelves that reach upward floor after floor,
- 5:07Speaker 1: winding staircases, cozy reading nooks, railings overlooking lower sections, and
- 5:14Speaker 1: of course books floating through the air using their own
- 5:17Speaker 1: covers like little magical wings. Welcome back, says a familiar voice,
- 5:25Speaker 1: the voice of the librarian. You look around, though, of
- 5:30Speaker 1: course you know by now that you're not actually going
- 5:32Speaker 1: to see anybody. The voice simply seems to come from
- 5:36Speaker 1: the library itself, or maybe it is the voice of
- 5:41Speaker 1: the library itself. Hey, you say, I was kind of
- 5:47Speaker 1: hoping for another adventure. I had a feeling you might be,
- 5:53Speaker 1: says the librarian. And tonight I believe I have just
- 5:59Speaker 1: the thing. You begin walking down the stairs toward the
- 6:03Speaker 1: large reading area in the middle of the library, a
- 6:07Speaker 1: huge circle of couches and pillows and blankets. The comfiest
- 6:12Speaker 1: place imaginable to read a book, in fact. But before
- 6:16Speaker 1: you get to the reading area, something catches your eye.
- 6:21Speaker 1: On a small table. Beside one of the couches are
- 6:24Speaker 1: two objects sitting side by side, a pencil and an eraser.
- 6:32Speaker 1: You walk toward them. The pencil looks kind of normal
- 6:37Speaker 1: at first glance, but when you get closer you can
- 6:40Speaker 1: see a faint, little swirl of light moving underneath its surface,
- 6:45Speaker 1: changing color every few seconds. The eraser is white, perfectly clean,
- 6:51Speaker 1: and giving off a sort of little glow. You pause,
- 6:57Speaker 1: What are these doing here? You ask, Those, says the librarian,
- 7:03Speaker 1: are magical editing tools. The pencil can draw, restore, and
- 7:09Speaker 1: rewrite parts of a story. The eraser can remove them.
- 7:16Speaker 1: You narrow your eyes at the eraser. That sounds useful,
- 7:21Speaker 1: you say, it can be in the right hands, of course,
- 7:27Speaker 1: the librarian responds. You think back to some of your
- 7:31Speaker 1: earlier adventures in the librarian. How things have well had
- 7:35Speaker 1: a bit of a tendency to get a bit out
- 7:37Speaker 1: of control when books are left open, Well, you say,
- 7:42Speaker 1: maybe I should bring them with me, just in case.
- 7:46Speaker 1: A cautious choice. The librarian says, I approve.
- 7:54Speaker 4: You pick up the.
- 7:55Speaker 1: Pencil and tuck it safely into one pocket. Then you
- 7:59Speaker 1: pick up the erase, sir, and place it in another. There,
- 8:03Speaker 1: you say, prepared, hopefully, says the librarian. You continue down
- 8:10Speaker 1: into the reading area and settle into one of the
- 8:12Speaker 1: big cozy couches. Then a book begins to float over
- 8:18Speaker 1: towards you. It glides downwards, turns neatly, and lands in
- 8:24Speaker 1: your hands. The title on the cover reads Star Explorers.
- 8:30Speaker 1: The cover art shows a sleek silver starship drifting among
- 8:35Speaker 1: bright stars and colorful planets. Near the ship, flashes of
- 8:40Speaker 1: blue and red light suggest laser fire. Something like it
- 8:45Speaker 1: ow looks cool, you say.
- 8:49Speaker 4: It is one of our Betta space adventures. A future
- 8:53Speaker 4: where humanity has solved many of the old troubles and
- 8:57Speaker 4: now tuns its attention to the star discovery, diplomacy, danger, exploration,
- 9:05Speaker 4: and lots of lies of battles, all the good things.
- 9:10Speaker 1: Any dragons, You ask, No, not in this case, Eh,
- 9:16Speaker 1: still sounds pretty cool. You open up the book. Instead
- 9:20Speaker 1: of ordinary pages, a swirling blue portal shimmers just inside
- 9:26Speaker 1: the cover. You take a breath, clutch the book, and
- 9:30Speaker 1: then lean toward the portal. At once you feel the
- 9:35Speaker 1: familiar pulling sensation as your whole body is being gently
- 9:40Speaker 1: sucked through the tunnel made of light. Then you're somewhere else.
- 9:46Speaker 1: When you open your eyes, you're standing on the bridge
- 9:49Speaker 1: of an enormous starship. Lights glow softly from the walls.
- 9:55Speaker 1: A giant front window reveals the stars spread out before you,
- 9:59Speaker 1: like built diamonds across black velvet. Crew Members in sleek
- 10:04Speaker 1: futuristic uniforms move quickly around the room, pressing all sorts
- 10:08Speaker 1: of buttons that you can't really determine the purpose of,
- 10:13Speaker 1: but they look very important and official doing it, And
- 10:17Speaker 1: directly in front of you is a large captain's chair.
- 10:22Speaker 1: You look down at yourself and see that you're no
- 10:24Speaker 1: longer wearing your regular clothes. Instead, you're dressed in a sharp,
- 10:30Speaker 1: dark uniform with silver details and some sort of glowing
- 10:34Speaker 1: insignia on the chest. The starship Horizon, says the voice
- 10:41Speaker 1: of the librarian, now narrating the story. All around you
- 10:46Speaker 1: one of humanity's proudest exploration vessels, a ship built not
- 10:52Speaker 1: for war but for discovery, and tonight it's captain was
- 11:00Speaker 1: about to have a very difficult evening. You blink, Captain.
- 11:08Speaker 1: A crew member turns toward you immediately. Captain, the unidentified
- 11:13Speaker 1: vessel is still on approach. He says, no response to
- 11:18Speaker 1: our signals. Another voice calls out from across the room.
- 11:23Speaker 1: Energy spike detected. Then a loud alarm begins to sound.
- 11:29Speaker 1: Red lights flash, and through the front window you see it,
- 11:33Speaker 1: a dark alien ship swinging around from behind an asteroid field,
- 11:38Speaker 1: its jagged metal hull lit by strange red markings. The
- 11:44Speaker 1: entire bridge seems to turn toward you at once, waiting
- 11:48Speaker 1: for orders. A calm, robotic voice overhead announces battle stations,
- 11:55Speaker 1: Battle stations. You grip the arms of the captain's for
- 12:00Speaker 1: just a second, and then something clicks into place inside
- 12:04Speaker 1: your mind. Just like in the other books, you suddenly
- 12:08Speaker 1: know things you didn't know before. You know how the
- 12:13Speaker 1: ship works. You know what the glowing display means. You
- 12:17Speaker 1: know what it means when an officer says the shields
- 12:20Speaker 1: are charging or the engines are spooling for a turn.
- 12:25Speaker 1: You move toward the captain's chair, sit down and look
- 12:29Speaker 1: out at the stars. Status report. You say, clicking in
- 12:35Speaker 1: to your role. The words come out firmly and confidently,
- 12:40Speaker 1: like you are, in fact the captain of the ship
- 12:43Speaker 1: unknown vest rocking weapons. Captain, their shields are up, their
- 12:48Speaker 1: engines are unstable, but they're closing in fast. Another officer
- 12:54Speaker 1: glances down at a bright blue display. Our long range
- 12:58Speaker 1: scans suggest pack construction. Their ship appears damaged in several places,
- 13:05Speaker 1: like it's been repaired over and over again. A third
- 13:10Speaker 1: crew member turns in her chair, hailing frequencies remain unanswered. Captain,
- 13:16Speaker 1: You narrow your eyes and stare out at the alien ship.
- 13:20Speaker 1: It looks dangerous, malls, sharp bangles, and like little glowing
- 13:25Speaker 1: red cracks along its hull. Raised shields. You order at once.
- 13:32Speaker 1: A faint shimmer passes over the front window. She helds online.
- 13:36Speaker 1: Someone says, full power to defensive systems. You say, defensive
- 13:42Speaker 1: systems at maximum. The alien ship suddenly flashes red. Incoming
- 13:48Speaker 1: shouts one of the officers. A beam of crackling energy
- 13:52Speaker 1: streaks across space and slams into your ship. The whole
- 13:57Speaker 1: bridge shakes, consoles flicker. A few crew members grab hold
- 14:02Speaker 1: of their stations. Shields holding at ninety two percent, says
- 14:07Speaker 1: the tactical officer. You sit forward, return fire target their weapons,
- 14:14Speaker 1: leave their life support alone, Hi, Captain. Two bright blue
- 14:19Speaker 1: laser beams fire from the front of your ship, flashing
- 14:23Speaker 1: across the darkness and striking the alien vessel sparks leap
- 14:28Speaker 1: from its outer hull. The alien ship banks hard to
- 14:32Speaker 1: the side, then releases a spread of glowing projectiles. Multipu
- 14:38Speaker 1: torpedoes incoming. One of the officers announces you point toward
- 14:44Speaker 1: the main screen evasive pattern three. Roll us below them.
- 14:49Speaker 1: The helmsman moves both hands over a glowing control surface.
- 14:53Speaker 1: The stars outside the front window tilt sharply as the
- 14:57Speaker 1: entire ship dips down word and rolls onto what looks
- 15:02Speaker 1: like it's back. The torpedoes streak overhead and explode. A
- 15:08Speaker 1: few crew members cheer. A little bit nice flying, You say,
- 15:13Speaker 1: thank you, Captain. The alien ship swings back around and accelerates.
- 15:19Speaker 1: They're trying to get behind us, says the tactical officer.
- 15:23Speaker 1: Not happening, you reply, cut main engines for two seconds,
- 15:28Speaker 1: then boost hard to port. The helmsman obeys instantly. Your
- 15:33Speaker 1: ship slows for a moment. The alien ship over shoots slightly,
- 15:38Speaker 1: expecting you to keep moving forward. Then your ship bursts
- 15:42Speaker 1: sideways in a big curve, putting you at the exact
- 15:47Speaker 1: right place for another blast of weapons. Now you say,
- 15:52Speaker 1: firing twin laser blast slammed the alien ship again, followed
- 15:58Speaker 1: by a bright silver torque that streaks across the darkness
- 16:02Speaker 1: and bursts near its engine direct hit. The tactical officer says,
- 16:08Speaker 1: the engine's off failing. The alien ship lurches badly, spinning
- 16:14Speaker 1: once before stabilizing. Captain says the science officer. Their weapons
- 16:21Speaker 1: are still powered, but only barely take them offline. You
- 16:26Speaker 1: order another shut and the last visible cannon on the
- 16:31Speaker 1: alien ship sputters and goes dark. Tactical update, you ask, Mannie, me,
- 16:38Speaker 1: vessel is disabled, shields collapsing, weapons offline, Life signs still present. Good.
- 16:47Speaker 1: That puts an end to that. Any idea why they attacked?
- 16:52Speaker 1: You ask, No clear answer, Captain says the science officer.
- 16:57Speaker 1: But their ship's power systems are unstable and I'm detecting
- 17:01Speaker 1: strange energy fluctuations. Hail them again, you say. The communications
- 17:07Speaker 1: officer presses a glowing panel and waits no response. You
- 17:13Speaker 1: think for a moment, well, if they won't talk from
- 17:17Speaker 1: over here, maybe we go ask them in person. You
- 17:23Speaker 1: want to board the alien vessel, Captain, I do you
- 17:28Speaker 1: say we disable to shift. We're not just gonna leave
- 17:31Speaker 1: it here floating in space. Your first officer nods once.
- 17:37Speaker 1: That is a very captainy thing to say. Thank you.
- 17:42Speaker 1: You reply, Prepare an away team right away, secure docking clamps.
- 17:49Speaker 1: Prepare short range transport link scanning for safe entry points. Sir,
- 17:56Speaker 1: you stand from the captain's chair, and somebody please tell
- 18:00Speaker 1: me there's a cool armor suit on this ship or
- 18:03Speaker 1: something like that. The first officer gives you a smile.
- 18:08Speaker 1: There always as captain. A few minutes later, you're walking
- 18:14Speaker 1: through a sleek metallic cordor it towards the boarding bay.
- 18:18Speaker 1: The first officer beside you, along with two security officers
- 18:22Speaker 1: and a science specialist carrying some sort of scanning device.
- 18:26Speaker 1: The walls glow with soft white lines. Ahead, a pair
- 18:32Speaker 1: of doors slide open. You walk into a room full
- 18:37Speaker 1: of high tech equipment. Armor suits and laser rifles line
- 18:42Speaker 1: the walls, each one with glowing blue edges. Oh this
- 18:49Speaker 1: is excellent, you say. I thought you might enjoy it,
- 18:54Speaker 1: says the first officer. You step toward one of the
- 18:58Speaker 1: armor suits. As soon as you stand on the circular platform,
- 19:04Speaker 1: the suit activates. Pieces of light metal fold around your legs,
- 19:09Speaker 1: your arms, your chest, your shoulders. The armor locks into
- 19:13Speaker 1: place with soft clicks. A helmet rises, folds around your
- 19:18Speaker 1: head and seals with a little hissing sound. A blue
- 19:23Speaker 1: display appears across the inside of the visor. You flex
- 19:28Speaker 1: your fingers, your arms, your legs. The suit fits perfectly.
- 19:34Speaker 1: A stun blaster is placed in your hands, sleek and
- 19:38Speaker 1: silver and humming with energy. This weapon is set to
- 19:42Speaker 1: stun only, says your first officer, high setting if needed
- 19:48Speaker 1: perfect You say, no unaliving, just stopping. The science officer
- 19:55Speaker 1: picks up a portable scanner. The first officer arms herself
- 19:59Speaker 1: as well, and then you remember something. You reach into
- 20:04Speaker 1: your regular pocket area beneath the armor and make sure
- 20:08Speaker 1: the magic pencil and a racer are still there. Luckily
- 20:12Speaker 1: both are just in case. The first officer notices Captain
- 20:19Speaker 1: Ah just checking my emergency supplies, you say. The doors
- 20:24Speaker 1: at the far end of the room open up, revealing
- 20:26Speaker 1: a short docking corridor. Away team. You say, let's go
- 20:32Speaker 1: see what's going on. You move across the docking corridor
- 20:36Speaker 1: and through the airlock into the alien ship. Immediately everything
- 20:41Speaker 1: feels different. The inside of this vessel is dim and
- 20:46Speaker 1: well lit with red. The walls are uneven and patched together.
- 20:51Speaker 1: For mismatched metal pieces. Pipes run along the ceiling, some
- 20:55Speaker 1: of them are sparking. The doors slopes lightly in places.
- 21:00Speaker 1: It looks like it's been put together out of other
- 21:03Speaker 1: ships at a scrap yard. You lead your team down
- 21:08Speaker 1: the corridor. At first, while you hear is the sound
- 21:11Speaker 1: of your own boots, and then a blast of red
- 21:15Speaker 1: energy slams into the wall beside you. Contact, says one
- 21:19Speaker 1: of the officers. You dive behind a thick support beam
- 21:23Speaker 1: as another shot passes overhead, not noticing something slipping out
- 21:29Speaker 1: of your pocket. The corridor fills with bright, flashing beams
- 21:34Speaker 1: of light. At the far end, you catch your first
- 21:38Speaker 1: clear look at the aliens. They're tall and narrow, with
- 21:42Speaker 1: smooth gray blue skin and large eyes. Their armor looks
- 21:47Speaker 1: like it was also pieced together out of scavenged parts. Advance,
- 21:52Speaker 1: you shout, Your team responds. One security officer leans out
- 21:57Speaker 1: and fires a blue pulse. It strikes the wall near
- 22:01Speaker 1: one of the aliens and sparks fly out. You pop
- 22:05Speaker 1: out next, fire once and hit an alien square in
- 22:08Speaker 1: the chest. Its armor flashes and it drops to the floor, stunned. Nice,
- 22:15Speaker 1: you say. More aliens appear further down the corridor more
- 22:20Speaker 1: red flashes of light. There are more coming from the
- 22:23Speaker 1: side passage. Your first officer says, you turn fire twice
- 22:28Speaker 1: and force two aliens back behind a corridor. Captain, if
- 22:33Speaker 1: we can reach the command section, we may be able
- 22:35Speaker 1: to shut down the ship and end the fight. You
- 22:39Speaker 1: charge forward through the corridor. Aliens pop out, one after
- 22:43Speaker 1: the other, and they meet blasts of blue laser fire.
- 22:49Speaker 1: Stun after stun, the aliens go down until you arrive
- 22:54Speaker 1: at the other side of the corridor. A large door
- 22:58Speaker 1: opens and you find standing on the bridge of the
- 23:02Speaker 1: alien ship. The aliens, noticing you've just made it onto
- 23:06Speaker 1: their bridge, turn and begin firing. You dive off to
- 23:11Speaker 1: the side behind a control panel, firing your blaster as
- 23:15Speaker 1: you go through the air, hitting one of the aliens
- 23:18Speaker 1: square in the chest, causing them to pass out. Your
- 23:23Speaker 1: first officer takes out another, and the two security officers
- 23:27Speaker 1: roll in behind, firing blue laser beams again and again
- 23:33Speaker 1: until the entire bridge is clear. All right, somebody give
- 23:39Speaker 1: me a report about what's going on. The science officer
- 23:43Speaker 1: begins scanning the bridge. When the door opens behind you
- 23:47Speaker 1: once again, two aliens are standing there, and one of
- 23:53Speaker 1: them seems to be holding you're a racer. Oh no.
- 24:00Speaker 1: The alien turns the strange white object over in his
- 24:03Speaker 1: fingers and then gestures down towards a crate on the bridge. Instantly,
- 24:09Speaker 1: there's a flash of white light in the crate disappears.
- 24:15Speaker 1: It doesn't break or burn, It just disappears, turning into
- 24:20Speaker 1: floating white dust and then nothing at all. The alien
- 24:25Speaker 1: holding the eraser freezes and then stares at it in amazement.
- 24:30Speaker 1: Realizing that he's holding a very powerful weapon. He points
- 24:35Speaker 1: it at you and unleashes another blast. This time it
- 24:39Speaker 1: hits your ray gun, which immediately disappears from existence. He
- 24:45Speaker 1: continues to blast the bridge around you, and well. Things
- 24:50Speaker 1: continue to disappear. Consoles evaporate, floor panels disappear into white nothingness.
- 24:59Speaker 1: When we have to get out here here quick, you say.
- 25:02Speaker 1: Your first officer blasts at the aliens, causing them to
- 25:06Speaker 1: duck for cover, and at the same time you run
- 25:10Speaker 1: for the door. You pick up one of the alien
- 25:13Speaker 1: blasters as you run, and you begin firing at the
- 25:17Speaker 1: two aliens keeping them under cover. Everyone get out, you yell.
- 25:24Speaker 1: You continue to fire as your away team slips out
- 25:27Speaker 1: behind you and through the door. When they're all safely through.
- 25:32Speaker 1: You turn and run as well down the corridor and
- 25:35Speaker 1: back to your ship as quickly as you can. There's
- 25:39Speaker 1: no telling what kind of damage they can do with
- 25:41Speaker 1: that eraser. You look behind and the two aliens pop
- 25:46Speaker 1: back out into the corridor, pointing the eraser towards you. Down.
- 25:52Speaker 1: You yell just in time as the eraser beam blasts
- 25:57Speaker 1: above you and takes out the ceiling of the corridor.
- 26:01Speaker 1: You scramble back to your feet and run through onto
- 26:04Speaker 1: your ship. You attempt to close the doors as quickly
- 26:08Speaker 1: as you can right alert, everyone, go, go go. The
- 26:14Speaker 1: doors close on time, and you and the crew continues
- 26:17Speaker 1: to run through your own ship and up to the bridge.
- 26:22Speaker 1: A voice from one of your bridge officers appears on
- 26:24Speaker 1: your intercom. Captain, you seem to be losing sections of
- 26:29Speaker 1: the ship quickly. What exactly is going.
- 26:33Speaker 4: On down there?
- 26:36Speaker 1: Nothing? Just a bit of a problem. Get us out
- 26:38Speaker 1: of here quick, I can't Captain. It seems the right
- 26:43Speaker 1: engine has disappeared, right, I can see how that would
- 26:51Speaker 1: be a problem. All right, well, plan B. You stop
- 26:56Speaker 1: running towards the bridge and turn around once again, and
- 27:00Speaker 1: realizing that the only way out of this is well
- 27:05Speaker 1: to take the eraser back bridge, give me a report
- 27:10Speaker 1: on what sections of the ship are being disappeared, or
- 27:14Speaker 1: whatever you command. Yes, captain, they are coming up your
- 27:19Speaker 1: corridor now, all right, then we hold here, you say,
- 27:25Speaker 1: gesturing for the rest of the away team to tuck
- 27:27Speaker 1: over into one of the corridors that goes in another direction.
- 27:32Speaker 1: You press your back up against the wall and wait.
- 27:36Speaker 1: You peek around the corridor, back in the direction you
- 27:39Speaker 1: came from, and you see them, the aliens, making their
- 27:44Speaker 1: way through the ship and erasing everything behind them. Luckily
- 27:50Speaker 1: for you, it's not simply erasing it into space. It's
- 27:55Speaker 1: just erasing everything into white, nothing new. You gesture over
- 28:02Speaker 1: to your first officer, using hand signals to indicate that
- 28:05Speaker 1: you will go low and they should go high. You
- 28:11Speaker 1: count down using your fingers three, two, one, and at
- 28:16Speaker 1: once you dive out into the corridor along the ground.
- 28:20Speaker 1: As your first officer jumps out above you, and the
- 28:24Speaker 1: two security officers pop around the corner. At once, you
- 28:28Speaker 1: all unleash blasts of laser, three blue beams and one
- 28:34Speaker 1: red beam coming from your weapon. Of course, the beams
- 28:38Speaker 1: luckily surprise the intruders, hitting both of them square in
- 28:42Speaker 1: the chest and causing them to fall to the floor.
- 28:47Speaker 1: You quickly run over to the two passed out aliens
- 28:51Speaker 1: and look out into the white nothingness beyond them. A captain,
- 28:58Speaker 1: what exactly has haden? And here they ask you grab
- 29:03Speaker 1: the eraser out of the alien's hand. Ah, well, kind
- 29:08Speaker 1: of hard to explain, but I think I might be
- 29:12Speaker 1: able to fix it, you say, reaching into your pocket
- 29:17Speaker 1: and pulling out the pencil. Librarian, A little help here, understood,
- 29:25Speaker 1: the librarian says, and a glowing portal appears besides you
- 29:30Speaker 1: once again. You jump through the portal and find yourself
- 29:36Speaker 1: sitting on the comfortable couch back in the library once again.
- 29:41Speaker 1: Any ideas how I can fix this book, you ask.
- 29:46Speaker 1: As you flip through the pages, you see that large
- 29:49Speaker 1: portions of the pictures and even the story you've gone missing. Well,
- 29:55Speaker 1: I recommend just using your imagination, the librarian responds, and
- 30:03Speaker 1: so you do. You begin filling in the pictures. Lines
- 30:09Speaker 1: flow out of the pencil, almost magically, filling in the
- 30:13Speaker 1: empty spaces with whatever you can imagine, much better than
- 30:18Speaker 1: you'd normally be able to draw. You read through the
- 30:22Speaker 1: missing words and you start to make up the rest,
- 30:26Speaker 1: filling in the blanks about how the ship was returned
- 30:30Speaker 1: to the Galactic Police Federation, you guess, and how the
- 30:36Speaker 1: crew was praised and lived happily ever after. With the
- 30:41Speaker 1: words back on the page and well the pictures filled
- 30:45Speaker 1: in to the best of your ability, you announce to
- 30:49Speaker 1: the librarian, I think I'm ready to go back in. Understood,
- 30:56Speaker 1: Just find the pot where you left off and you
- 30:59Speaker 1: can fit the story. You flip through the pages to
- 31:04Speaker 1: near the end, after the away mission had successfully figured
- 31:08Speaker 1: out what had gone on, and a portal appears. You
- 31:13Speaker 1: leaned towards it and you're instantly sucked inside, finding yourself
- 31:20Speaker 1: on the bridge again. But now everything is calm, the
- 31:25Speaker 1: ship is fully restored, and all of the people seem
- 31:29Speaker 1: to have forgotten about the whole eraser thing. Captain says
- 31:34Speaker 1: the first officer. The Galactic Police Federation ships are arriving.
- 31:38Speaker 1: Now you look through the front window. Three patrol cruisers
- 31:43Speaker 1: glide into view from warp. They look sleek and elegant,
- 31:48Speaker 1: but a little more like traditional police cars than well
- 31:52Speaker 1: they may have been in the first place. You did
- 31:55Speaker 1: your best to imagine what Galactic Police Federation vehicles would
- 31:58Speaker 1: look like. After all, most of them were erased. They're
- 32:02Speaker 1: hailing us. Put them on screen, you say. A face
- 32:07Speaker 1: appears on the viewscreen. It's an officer from the Galactic
- 32:11Speaker 1: Police Federation, wearing a very crisp looking uniform and an
- 32:15Speaker 1: expression that looks as though rules are one of his
- 32:19Speaker 1: favorite things in the universe. Captain of the Horizon, he says,
- 32:24Speaker 1: this is Commander Veil of the Galactic Police Federation. We
- 32:29Speaker 1: understand your vessel disabled the unidentified radar craft and is
- 32:34Speaker 1: preventing father danger in the section. Ah, that's right, you say.
- 32:41Speaker 1: We also understand that you manage the situation without unnecessary destruction,
- 32:47Speaker 1: and for that you have our thanks. You smile, happy
- 32:52Speaker 1: to help, you say, we will take custody of the
- 32:55Speaker 1: alien crew and escort their vessel for full investigation and assistance.
- 33:00Speaker 1: Your report suggests this may have been an act of
- 33:03Speaker 1: desperation rather than conquest.
- 33:06Speaker 4: Uh.
- 33:07Speaker 1: Yeah, that's what I was thinking too, you say. A
- 33:11Speaker 1: wise conclusion, says Vail. The galaxy would be better if
- 33:15Speaker 1: ships had more captains like you. The screen shifts off.
- 33:22Speaker 1: Nicely done, Captain. The first officer says, Aunt lucks like
- 33:27Speaker 1: the alien vessel is being towed away awaiting your orders. Captain,
- 33:33Speaker 1: you step toward the captain's chair. But before you said
- 33:37Speaker 1: you take one last look out at the stars. Set
- 33:41Speaker 1: a course for the next unexplored sector, you say. The
- 33:45Speaker 1: helmsman grins.
- 33:47Speaker 4: I Captain.
- 33:49Speaker 1: The engines hum more deeply. The stars brighten, and you
- 33:53Speaker 1: suddenly jump to warp speed. A portal appears in front
- 33:59Speaker 1: of you, once again, indicating that this particular story is over.
- 34:07Speaker 1: You look around you and step through the portal until
- 34:11Speaker 1: you're instantly transported back to the very comfortable couch inside
- 34:17Speaker 1: the magic library. Welcome back, the librarian says. Your new
- 34:25Speaker 1: ending certainly went well. Is there anything else I could
- 34:31Speaker 1: find you to read? He asks? H No, but I
- 34:37Speaker 1: really could use a sleep, understood, Feel free to lay
- 34:43Speaker 1: your head down right there. You lift your legs up
- 34:49Speaker 1: onto the very comfortable couch. A blanket flies down over
- 34:55Speaker 1: top of you and pulls itself up to your chin.
- 35:00Speaker 1: All at once, the lights in the library dim down
- 35:04Speaker 1: to just the perfect amount of illumination, and you close
- 35:10Speaker 1: your eyes. With each breath. Your body relaxes a little
- 35:16Speaker 1: bit more and sinks down into the couch, and your
- 35:23Speaker 1: mind begins to wander off to thoughts of new dreams
- 35:30Speaker 1: and new adventures. To come good night everyone.
- 38:33Speaker 3: In New Yor no more Union, no mo of thing.
- 43:12Speaker 4: Mo.
- 45:23Speaker 3: M m long one on many
