- 0:01Speaker 1: A big day here with the Jaguars.
- 0:02Speaker 2: We're going to talk a lot about Fred Taylor today,
- 0:04Speaker 2: but you guys, what are your favorite Fred moments or
- 0:07Speaker 2: your favorite friends?
- 0:08Speaker 3: There are so many, but one of my favorite, which
- 0:10Speaker 3: is often forgotten, is the fact that it week three
- 0:13Speaker 3: of the nineteen ninety eight season, James Stewart was hurt
- 0:15Speaker 3: against the Baltimore Ravens on the first or second play
- 0:18Speaker 3: of the game. So Fred came in and on the
- 0:20Speaker 3: third play of the game took his first hand off
- 0:22Speaker 3: and went fifty two yards for a touchdown. It was
- 0:25Speaker 3: a huge indication of what he was going to be.
- 0:29Speaker 4: Yeah, there's so many from that year. I was fortunate
- 0:31Speaker 4: enough to cover Fred from ninety eight to two thousand.
- 0:34Speaker 4: I'm gonna go with another moment from his rookie year,
- 0:36Speaker 4: the one that Fred has told me often was his favorite.
- 0:39Speaker 4: The Jaguars are down against the Bucks out here in
- 0:42Speaker 4: one of the I think one of the great games
- 0:44Speaker 4: that the Jaguars played in that era. He went Brian of.
- 0:48Speaker 5: The yards seventy yard the buccaneer sideline.
- 0:50Speaker 4: Fred had hung out with Warren Sap that summer. Warren
- 0:53Speaker 4: had told him they were going to get him in
- 0:55Speaker 4: that game, Fred really didn't say much. He was a
- 0:57Speaker 4: quiet kid. And then Fred danced into the end zone
- 1:00Speaker 4: and has always sort of held that over Warren's that set.
- 1:02Speaker 4: That's Fred's favorite moment and it sure stands out to
- 1:05Speaker 4: me as well.
- 1:28Speaker 6: You know, he is off Taylor running left cuts. In fact,
- 1:29Speaker 6: he's got a hold there. He is thirty Taylor rock
- 1:31Speaker 6: side forty there he goes to the forty five to fifty.
- 1:33Speaker 4: It's a foot race.
- 1:34Speaker 6: Forty Taylor, thirty Taylor to the twenty, takes to the ten.
- 1:38Speaker 6: He's pulled down, but he gets into the episode touchdown
- 1:40Speaker 6: in the first play.
- 1:41Speaker 5: Of the game.
- 1:43Speaker 2: How about that one of our Monday Night football moments,
- 1:45Speaker 2: and of course a great moment for Fred Taylor. Our
- 1:47Speaker 2: big thing today has to be finalist Fred Fred Taylor
- 1:50Speaker 2: making it to the finalist list for the Pro Football
- 1:52Speaker 2: Hall of Fame for the first time. Obviously we're very
- 1:55Speaker 2: excited about it. Brian, what does the step mean for Fred?
- 1:58Speaker 3: Well, I think he is one step closer now towards
- 2:02Speaker 3: knowing that he's going to get into the Hall of Fame.
- 2:04Speaker 3: I mean, I believe that I always have and I
- 2:06Speaker 3: look at that list and there are great players on
- 2:08Speaker 3: that list, but I don't think any of them are
- 2:10Speaker 3: better than Fred John And so for Fred.
- 2:12Speaker 5: It was about getting into the room. And people could
- 2:15Speaker 5: hold it against him that he didn't have as many.
- 2:17Speaker 3: Pro Bowls as other players, did have as many touchdowns
- 2:20Speaker 3: as some other players, but he had big moments in
- 2:22Speaker 3: big games and on big stages. Remember his two hundred
- 2:26Speaker 3: and forty three yards at three Rivers Stadium in two
- 2:29Speaker 3: thousand and four touchdowns against the Pittsburgh Steelers. I mean,
- 2:32Speaker 3: he had those kinds of moments. So for Fred, I
- 2:34Speaker 3: think this means that he's.
- 2:35Speaker 4: On the path. Yeah, I think he's getting in. I
- 2:38Speaker 4: don't know it's gonna be this year. This can be
- 2:40Speaker 4: a process, as we all know, and it's a weird process,
- 2:42Speaker 4: not always a fair process. But getting in the room
- 2:45Speaker 4: is very important in this deal because when you're not
- 2:50Speaker 4: in the final fifteen, the voters think about you and
- 2:54Speaker 4: they look at you, but they don't talk to each
- 2:56Speaker 4: other that much about you. There's not as much convincing.
- 3:00Speaker 4: And I think once they start, this month will now
- 3:04Speaker 4: be about these voters making calls to each other, making
- 3:07Speaker 4: calls to people who played watching. And I've always thought
- 3:11Speaker 4: once the voters go back and start watching Fred's highlights,
- 3:16Speaker 4: his big moments, and they see the unbelievable combination of
- 3:20Speaker 4: size and strength.
- 3:21Speaker 5: It's rare.
- 3:21Speaker 4: Maybe Oj Simpson had it. There's been a few guys
- 3:24Speaker 4: in league history who have had his combination of size
- 3:27Speaker 4: and strength, not many and speed. Once they start seeing
- 3:31Speaker 4: the highlights, once they start seeing the moves and the moments,
- 3:34Speaker 4: I think his status will rise among voters. Maybe not
- 3:37Speaker 4: this year, but I think it's a sooner rather than
- 3:42Speaker 4: later now for Fred. I hope so.
- 3:45Speaker 3: Sam Cauvares, the longtime sports director at WJXT Channel four
- 3:49Speaker 3: here in town, he's the voter who matters now because
- 3:52Speaker 3: he's the guy who's going to have to make the
- 3:53Speaker 3: case to all those other voters. Of course, he covered
- 3:56Speaker 3: Fred through all those years, and it's going to be
- 3:59Speaker 3: up to him just by himself. There'll be a lot
- 4:01Speaker 3: of people that will be assisting him in putting together
- 4:04Speaker 3: the package.
- 4:05Speaker 5: You know, the.
- 4:07Speaker 3: Pitch if you will, to all those other voters. So
- 4:11Speaker 3: he's got a lot of work to do. Luckily, he's
- 4:14Speaker 3: got a lot to work with With Fred Taylor.
- 4:15Speaker 2: I was gonna say a lot of the video is
- 4:17Speaker 2: definitely gonna help out that pitch, because if you watch it,
- 4:19Speaker 2: you can see with your own eyes he's certainly a.
- 4:21Speaker 1: Hall of Famer.
- 4:22Speaker 2: We're gonna talk a little bit more about Fred later
- 4:23Speaker 2: on in the show, but right now we'll come back
- 4:25Speaker 2: to present day for our second big thing, which is will.
- 4:27Speaker 1: He or won't he.
- 4:28Speaker 2: Trevor Lawrence suffered his fourth injury so far this season.
- 4:31Speaker 2: It's an ac sprain in his throwing shoulder. He talked
- 4:35Speaker 2: a little bit yesterday about what it's gonna take, what
- 4:37Speaker 2: his practice schedule is gonna be like to sleep.
- 4:40Speaker 7: That's the plan right now. I mean, obviously things can change,
- 4:43Speaker 7: but yeah, as of right now, don't plan on doing
- 4:46Speaker 7: much today and we'll see tomorrow. Kind of take it
- 4:49Speaker 7: day by day, but yeah, not really gonna throw any
- 4:51Speaker 7: to day and from there, like I said, it's just
- 4:55Speaker 7: you never know how things are gonna heal up and
- 4:56Speaker 7: how quickly you're gonna recover. But right now it's still
- 5:00Speaker 7: and still kind of working through the beginning stages of
- 5:02Speaker 7: you know, getting back, so we'll kind of see how
- 5:05Speaker 7: it goes. But that's the plan right now.
- 5:08Speaker 2: John, We saw that Trevor was physically at practice. He
- 5:11Speaker 2: did not participate in practices out there in shorts, just
- 5:13Speaker 2: kind of going through all the game plan and everything.
- 5:16Speaker 2: Is this another situation where we won't know until closer
- 5:19Speaker 2: to Friday or Saturday whether he's gonna.
- 5:20Speaker 4: Play well this one? Man, I know till Sunday. I
- 5:24Speaker 4: don't really have a gut on this one. I guess
- 5:27Speaker 4: I've guessed and projected so many times this season that
- 5:31Speaker 4: it all sort of feels lost. Now. I think he'll
- 5:36Speaker 4: play it if capable. If I'm Doug Peterson, I'll go
- 5:41Speaker 4: back to what I've said all week, Brian. I would
- 5:43Speaker 4: think about the practice time. I would think about the
- 5:45Speaker 4: continuity element. Not that Trevor necessarily can't do it, but
- 5:49Speaker 4: how much timing does he have with receivers based on
- 5:53Speaker 4: the week? Feels like that's been a thing. I would
- 5:56Speaker 4: worry about that a little bit. But I kind of
- 5:58Speaker 4: think he goes.
- 6:00Speaker 5: My gut is is that he doesn't.
- 6:01Speaker 3: John, and I think if you're a round this league
- 6:03Speaker 3: for any length of time, you start to look at
- 6:04Speaker 3: transactions on Tuesdays and start.
- 6:06Speaker 5: To read tea leaves.
- 6:08Speaker 3: And they went and signed Mad Barkley off of the
- 6:10Speaker 3: Giants practice squad, and now they had to bring him
- 6:12Speaker 3: to the active roster.
- 6:13Speaker 5: But they could have just elevated E. J. Perry.
- 6:16Speaker 3: I mean, if they thought that there was a legitimate
- 6:19Speaker 3: chance that Trevor was gonna be able to go, you
- 6:21Speaker 3: know you wouldn't. I don't think you would have gone
- 6:23Speaker 3: to this trouble to bring in a guy that Doug
- 6:25Speaker 3: has some familiarity with. I look at that, and I
- 6:27Speaker 3: think there's just this is this is one injury too
- 6:30Speaker 3: far down the road, and this is his throwing shoulder.
- 6:34Speaker 5: I like to read body language.
- 6:36Speaker 3: I listen carefully, I pay attention, and my gut told
- 6:40Speaker 3: me yesterday that this is gonna be the one that
- 6:42Speaker 3: he's not gonna be able to go, and they're gonna
- 6:44Speaker 3: have to try to beat the Carolina Panthers without him
- 6:46Speaker 3: this week, and I think they can do that. Keep
- 6:48Speaker 3: in mind, you know, this is not just a decision
- 6:50Speaker 3: for this year. This is a decision for his offseason.
- 6:53Speaker 3: That's his throwing shoulder. And if you want to know
- 6:56Speaker 3: what happens when you're throwing shoulder ac joint is injured,
- 6:59Speaker 3: just look at Anthony Richard and the surgical procedure that
- 7:02Speaker 3: he had for the Colts and his timetable for coming
- 7:04Speaker 3: back and being.
- 7:05Speaker 5: Ready to go.
- 7:06Speaker 3: So I think they're cautious with this thing, and I
- 7:08Speaker 3: just have the sense he's not going this week. But
- 7:10Speaker 3: that's there's no insight other than what I just told you.
- 7:13Speaker 3: I got thirty years of doing this guy and reading
- 7:16Speaker 3: the tea leaves.
- 7:17Speaker 2: We'll try to figure things out. We'll talk it out
- 7:19Speaker 2: a little bit as well. Our final big thing today
- 7:22Speaker 2: is turnovers. So Trevor has been playing hurt for some time,
- 7:25Speaker 2: whether that's him playing hurt or some of the other
- 7:27Speaker 2: communication issues, there's been a lot of turnovers, especially in
- 7:30Speaker 2: the past couple of weeks, and they've hurt this team.
- 7:32Speaker 1: And Les Taylor talked about that yesterday.
- 7:35Speaker 8: You know, I think he takes that very personal. He's
- 7:38Speaker 8: very accountable. That's one of the things that we really
- 7:40Speaker 8: like about Trevor. You know, he understands where his responsibilities
- 7:45Speaker 8: lie in terms of protecting football for this team, and
- 7:47Speaker 8: so he takes responsibility of that.
- 7:51Speaker 1: Ryan. He's accountabile. He always owns up to it.
- 7:53Speaker 2: But he seems to be making a lot of those
- 7:55Speaker 2: mistakes lately, a little bit more than we're used to.
- 7:58Speaker 3: Yeah, he leads the NFL over the last three year
- 8:00Speaker 3: in turnovers, and I wrote this for quick thoughts after
- 8:03Speaker 3: the game on Sunday. You know, he's kind of approaching
- 8:06Speaker 3: Josh Allen's territory. Alan's a guy who, since he came
- 8:09Speaker 3: into the league in twenty eighteen, has led the league
- 8:11Speaker 3: in turnovers. Now Allen has more than made up with
- 8:13Speaker 3: it with ninety seven touchdowns and kept his team in contention.
- 8:16Speaker 3: And that's where you hope Trevor gets that he slows
- 8:21Speaker 3: down the rate.
- 8:21Speaker 5: Of turnovers, takes better care of the football.
- 8:24Speaker 3: Tom Coffin John always used to have a saying and
- 8:26Speaker 3: he'd say it with a sneer on his face and
- 8:28Speaker 3: callous disregard for the football. I don't think he has
- 8:31Speaker 3: disregard for the football. I just think on Sunday he
- 8:35Speaker 3: was off and he just has a tendency turned the
- 8:37Speaker 3: ball over because he's not quite as careful as he
- 8:39Speaker 3: needs to be. This is something that he's gonna have
- 8:41Speaker 3: to focus on because he's gonna be asked about it
- 8:43Speaker 3: until it stops.
- 8:44Speaker 4: Yeah, and they tend to snowball. They snowball on Trevor
- 8:46Speaker 4: a little bit, and he's certainly a snowball. In the
- 8:48Speaker 4: last couple of weeks, I attribute a lot of it
- 8:51Speaker 4: to especially last week, it feels like timing stuff. It
- 8:56Speaker 4: feels like young receiver stuff when he's throwing, when he
- 9:00Speaker 4: he's in the pocket, he said yesterday, And I think
- 9:03Speaker 4: it's priority one figure out how to protect the ball
- 9:05Speaker 4: in the pocket. It's one thing to gets sacked, it's
- 9:07Speaker 4: another thing to fumble as prodigiously as he does. I mean,
- 9:11Speaker 4: he fumbels a lot in the pocket and it hurts you.
- 9:14Speaker 4: Beyond that, though, what's really hurting them lately first half season,
- 9:18Speaker 4: first eight games, I think the numbers thirteen turnovers, they
- 9:21Speaker 4: give up nineteen points fifteen turnovers since week seven, sixty
- 9:26Speaker 4: nine points off up. It's caused an avalanche and it's
- 9:31Speaker 4: as press set. Those numbers are the reason for the slot.
- 9:35Speaker 3: And the defense has not been as productive at taking
- 9:38Speaker 3: the bowl away in the second half of the season
- 9:40Speaker 3: as well, which hasn't helped.
- 9:42Speaker 2: Yes, the turnover differential definitely not great right now. That's
- 9:45Speaker 2: something they need to work on as well going forward.
- 9:48Speaker 2: To stay with us here on jag Zam, we're going
- 9:49Speaker 2: to talk more about Fred Taylor's career and his resume
- 9:52Speaker 2: going into the Hall of Fame, hopefully on this time
- 9:54Speaker 2: around as a finalist.
- 10:05Speaker 6: There he goes Freig Taylor, breaks the tackles, he's on
- 10:08Speaker 6: the run, spend fine touchdown Freig Taylor and Checksonville reclaims
- 10:13Speaker 6: the league.
- 10:14Speaker 5: Hollis puts it up and threw in the check.
- 10:16Speaker 6: Wars are winners over the Denver Broncos.
- 10:21Speaker 2: That on Monday night football moment for Fred always helps
- 10:23Speaker 2: when you can have those big games on a primetime
- 10:25Speaker 2: stage so other people remember it as well.
- 10:26Speaker 3: If you go back and look at that game, Fred
- 10:29Speaker 3: had been hampered by a hamstring all season.
- 10:31Speaker 5: Long, and he hadn't played a whole lot.
- 10:33Speaker 3: That was a Monday night game and homefield advantage was
- 10:36Speaker 3: on the line for the playoffs, and Fred didn't start
- 10:38Speaker 3: that game and didn't play a whole lot till the
- 10:40Speaker 3: fourth quarter. That may have been his third or fourth carry,
- 10:42Speaker 3: and of course it was the game winning touchdown. And
- 10:44Speaker 3: I love the fact that they show the highlight there
- 10:46Speaker 3: at the end that about the four yard line he
- 10:48Speaker 3: just put sort of jumped effortlessly from the four into
- 10:51Speaker 3: the end zone. I mean, he was such a gifted
- 10:54Speaker 3: football player physical specimen.
- 10:57Speaker 5: He could do things that other people couldn't.
- 11:00Speaker 2: What does this step mean to this process obviously we
- 11:03Speaker 2: know he's made the semi finalist five times before, but
- 11:06Speaker 2: to get to the final group to be heard, what
- 11:09Speaker 2: is that process like and what does this mean?
- 11:11Speaker 4: Well, as we talked about it, it puts you in
- 11:14Speaker 4: the room and the conversation, and that's when the voters
- 11:19Speaker 4: start talking to each other. Hey, sell me on your guy,
- 11:25Speaker 4: tell me why he should be in. It's when the
- 11:28Speaker 4: voters start calling people in their area, in their world
- 11:32Speaker 4: that they know, a team president, a scout who scouted
- 11:36Speaker 4: this guy, a head coach, a player who played against him,
- 11:39Speaker 4: and they start trying to figure out who should be in.
- 11:43Speaker 4: One thing that I think fans and observers of the process,
- 11:47Speaker 4: when their guy doesn't get in, they get very upset
- 11:50Speaker 4: and it's understandable, I can tell you from it, and
- 11:54Speaker 4: they criticize the process. There's no great process for the
- 11:57Speaker 4: Hall of Fame. There's not another one out there that's better.
- 12:00Speaker 4: What I can tell you is it is from knowing
- 12:03Speaker 4: the people and being at Super Bowls when I've heard
- 12:06Speaker 4: guys talking about this. The voters care about it. They
- 12:10Speaker 4: spend a lot of time not with their jobs, but
- 12:15Speaker 4: with talking to other people, asking questions, trying to get
- 12:20Speaker 4: it right. They all want to get it right. There's
- 12:22Speaker 4: fifteen guys. As Bisselli said multiple times, everybody on the
- 12:26Speaker 4: fifteen list deserves to be in. So you're talking about
- 12:32Speaker 4: sometimes it's not even the most deserving guy that year.
- 12:34Speaker 4: It's how it falls. But there is a process in
- 12:37Speaker 4: this that a candidate gains momentum sometimes over years. I
- 12:42Speaker 4: thought it happened with Tony. The more he's talked about
- 12:46Speaker 4: then all of a sudden he finished his twelfth that
- 12:48Speaker 4: year seventh and more and more voters say, you know what,
- 12:51Speaker 4: I didn't vote for him this year, but at some
- 12:53Speaker 4: point we got to get him in. And that's sort
- 12:56Speaker 4: of the momentum that can build for a guy. And
- 12:59Speaker 4: I think that's what will happened with Fred. I'm not
- 13:00Speaker 4: sure he gets in this year, but I think once
- 13:02Speaker 4: people start talking about him and watching him again, the
- 13:05Speaker 4: momentum is gonna build for Fred.
- 13:07Speaker 3: How many locks did you see on that list? I mean,
- 13:09Speaker 3: how many guys do you say, well, he absolutely is
- 13:10Speaker 3: going in. I mean, I tell you Julius Peppers, I thought,
- 13:13Speaker 3: Dwight Freeney for sure, Antonio Gates, Andre Johnson. I mean,
- 13:21Speaker 3: I can make the case for those guys, but they
- 13:23Speaker 3: have to go in.
- 13:24Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't know. I but again to your point,
- 13:26Speaker 4: I think when you mentioned those guys, I covered Dwight
- 13:31Speaker 4: and I think he's a Hall of Famer. When I
- 13:33Speaker 4: looked at the list, I didn't think, boy, he's getting
- 13:35Speaker 4: in this year. I covered Reggie think he's All of Famer.
- 13:38Speaker 4: Of Reggie Wayne, I don't know there's any locks, but
- 13:42Speaker 4: I think what might hurt Fred this year is there
- 13:46Speaker 4: are a number of guys and when you talk to
- 13:49Speaker 4: committee members, they talk about it, well, so and so
- 13:51Speaker 4: has been waiting for a long time. You know, Andre
- 13:54Speaker 4: Johnson has been in this process for a while. Reggie
- 13:56Speaker 4: Wayne is a lot of guys who've been in it
- 13:57Speaker 4: for a while. Since it might be a year where
- 14:01Speaker 4: the voters say, Okay, we're gonna take this year and
- 14:03Speaker 4: get some guys in who need to be in. Because
- 14:06Speaker 4: it shouldn't work that way, but that's how it does.
- 14:09Speaker 4: At the same time, Fred's the only running back, and
- 14:12Speaker 4: there wasn't a running back last year either who got in.
- 14:17Speaker 4: There's gonna be nobody else at his position that bumps
- 14:20Speaker 4: him down in this process. That kind of thing can matter.
- 14:25Speaker 3: Teamage too, right, I mean, you wouldn't think that Dwight
- 14:26Speaker 3: Freemy and Reggie would get in the same year.
- 14:29Speaker 4: Yeah, probably not. It usually doesn't work that way. And
- 14:33Speaker 4: other position groups usually they usually but often multiple wide
- 14:39Speaker 4: multiple position groups don't get in. I think he has
- 14:42Speaker 4: a chance. I'd be surprised if somebody has been on
- 14:45Speaker 4: the ballot five times. The semi finalist sort of races
- 14:50Speaker 4: through the process and gets in as a finalist first year.
- 14:53Speaker 4: But the other side of that statement is this voting
- 14:58Speaker 4: process often surprises you, so it could easily happen.
- 15:01Speaker 5: You know, you can go back and look at a
- 15:03Speaker 5: lot of different things about Fred. Randy Moss was the
- 15:07Speaker 5: Rookie of.
- 15:07Speaker 3: The Year in two thousand and a party in nineteen
- 15:10Speaker 3: ninety eight, he had seventeen touchdowns. Fred had seventeen touchdowns
- 15:14Speaker 3: as a rookie, and four of sixty yards or longer,
- 15:18Speaker 3: and some of those were game winning sorts of plays.
- 15:22Speaker 3: I think people have forgotten that in two thousand he
- 15:24Speaker 3: had a stretch of nine consecutive games where he rushed
- 15:27Speaker 3: for at least one hundred yards. At that time, only
- 15:29Speaker 3: Marcus Allen and Barry Sanders had ever done more than that,
- 15:33Speaker 3: and since then only Chris Johnson from the Tennessee Titans
- 15:36Speaker 3: has done at least ten. So you're putting into the
- 15:39Speaker 3: elite company.
- 15:41Speaker 5: I shouldn't say that you're putting him. He put himself
- 15:43Speaker 5: an elite company with the way that he played.
- 15:45Speaker 4: I would put that's the last time I covered Fred
- 15:48Speaker 4: was two thousand the street that Brian talked about as
- 15:53Speaker 4: a Jaguars team that year that was falling off of
- 15:56Speaker 4: what they had been. I I would put that year
- 16:02Speaker 4: up with the forty nine touchdown season that I covered
- 16:06Speaker 4: a Manning as the two most impressive years. Maybe throw
- 16:09Speaker 4: more Eas's rushing title because of what he did when
- 16:13Speaker 4: he had no help around him. But two thousand eleven
- 16:16Speaker 4: his year that year nine stra eight hundred yard games,
- 16:21Speaker 4: and I forget the stat I knew was with the
- 16:24Speaker 4: tu an unbelievable number of forty yard runs. Mixed in
- 16:28Speaker 4: with that his ability to break the long run in
- 16:32Speaker 4: a league where that's hard to do because of the
- 16:35Speaker 4: speed and size of defenses. I mean, he's he's a
- 16:40Speaker 4: Hall of Famer to me.
- 16:41Speaker 3: At some point he once was aggravated with me because
- 16:43Speaker 3: he heard me say that I thought he was the
- 16:45Speaker 3: best one yard back in football and I laughed, I said, fred,
- 16:48Speaker 3: I didn't say one yard. I said one yard line,
- 16:51Speaker 3: meaning he could score from your one yard line. Because
- 16:53Speaker 3: of two hundred and thirty pounds, he was tough to
- 16:55Speaker 3: keep out of the end zone, but he could score
- 16:56Speaker 3: from his as well. His ninety yard touchdown run in
- 16:59Speaker 3: the AFC Visual Playoff game here against Miami, which was
- 17:03Speaker 3: undoubtedly the fastest defense in football that year. That's Jason Taylor,
- 17:07Speaker 3: that's Brock Marion, Sam Madison, and he made them look
- 17:11Speaker 3: silly as he made them run all the way from
- 17:13Speaker 3: sideline to sideline and then just went right.
- 17:15Speaker 5: Down the middle for ninety yards. It was spectacular.
- 17:18Speaker 3: Had a thirty eight yard touchdown in that game as well,
- 17:21Speaker 3: where he stopped and started him at four different times
- 17:24Speaker 3: and then finally got up the sideline and it was
- 17:26Speaker 3: like the Dolphins were like, how did he do that?
- 17:27Speaker 3: And just watched him go. It was breathtaking. And I
- 17:33Speaker 3: have to say a quick story. In nineteen ninety eight,
- 17:36Speaker 3: Tom Coffin was really in on Curtis Enis, the big
- 17:38Speaker 3: running back from Penn State. He really wanted that big,
- 17:40Speaker 3: bruising guy. It reminded him of Oh J Anderson, who
- 17:43Speaker 3: played with him at the New York Giants. But Fred's
- 17:46Speaker 3: Pro Day was held on a Wednesday, and I had
- 17:49Speaker 3: gotten word back then there was no Internet or social media.
- 17:51Speaker 3: I'd gotten word from some scouting buddies that Fred had
- 17:53Speaker 3: run really fast, really fast. So I'm sitting in the
- 17:57Speaker 3: radio studio because we did a Wednesday night show, and
- 17:59Speaker 3: Tom comes walking down the hallway said, Hey, Tom, was
- 18:02Speaker 3: Fred as fast as everyone said? And he stuck his
- 18:04Speaker 3: head and he goes, you know, big eyes. He went
- 18:07Speaker 3: four three, four point three, and then just turned and
- 18:10Speaker 3: walked and went they're taking fread. I mean, at that moment,
- 18:12Speaker 3: you just knew he was so blown away by the
- 18:15Speaker 3: size speed ratio. Two hundred and thirty pounds to run
- 18:18Speaker 3: four point three and I think Fred will take you
- 18:20Speaker 3: ran four point two nine at the at the Florida
- 18:22Speaker 3: Pro Day.
- 18:24Speaker 5: It was just it was it was obvious.
- 18:25Speaker 3: And Curtisinas never did turn into a great back, he
- 18:27Speaker 3: had knee problems. And Fred is a Hall of Famer.
- 18:30Speaker 4: Here's what it's remarkable about the four two and now
- 18:32Speaker 4: I was actually there and it's one of the few
- 18:33Speaker 4: times that are Pro day that you heard scouts whoa
- 18:38Speaker 4: like And it was across the field and you heard
- 18:41Speaker 4: a collective whoa. Fred also told me later, and I
- 18:44Speaker 4: think he's he's okay with me telling this. He didn't train,
- 18:49Speaker 4: that's yeah, he showed up. He said he went. You know,
- 18:53Speaker 4: he was young. He went to a lot of parties
- 18:57Speaker 4: after his Florida season, and he he I'm sure he
- 19:02Speaker 4: may exaggerate it a little bit, but it was not
- 19:05Speaker 4: a situation. I think this is right. I think he
- 19:07Speaker 4: told me that he went to a speed camp, may
- 19:11Speaker 4: have been Shaws maybe in whatever one's And after a
- 19:14Speaker 4: couple of days they told me it's not thanking do
- 19:15Speaker 4: for him. Yeah, because he was you should teach the class. Yeah,
- 19:18Speaker 4: we're trying to get people where you are. I think
- 19:21Speaker 4: that's right, and if it's not, I apologize to Fred.
- 19:23Speaker 4: But I do know that he told me once that
- 19:26Speaker 4: he was not in his best shape when he ran
- 19:29Speaker 4: his four two nine.
- 19:30Speaker 3: So this thing about that, yeah, it's unbelievable, and I
- 19:33Speaker 3: think we should just I mean, because at some point
- 19:35Speaker 3: we've got to get off the air.
- 19:37Speaker 5: I'll just leave you with this. Fred showed up.
- 19:39Speaker 3: In nineteen ninety eight on a Suzuki Samurai right on
- 19:42Speaker 3: a rocket and he had the gold teeth in and
- 19:47Speaker 3: he ate. He was always had a bag of burger
- 19:50Speaker 3: king or something. He was just this brash, just like
- 19:52Speaker 3: you know, show up and run.
- 19:54Speaker 5: And from who he was.
- 19:56Speaker 3: Is this brash rookie to who he is now as
- 20:00Speaker 3: this superstar you know, father, husband, businessman, member of his
- 20:06Speaker 3: community in South Florida. In here, there are so many
- 20:08Speaker 3: people who are so proud of Fred Taylor, the man,
- 20:12Speaker 3: Fred Taylor, the Jaguar football player, Fred Taylor, the Jaguar representative.
- 20:17Speaker 3: It was an incredible journey. He lost a lot of money.
- 20:19Speaker 3: His wife Andy helped him get it back with Drew Rosenhaus.
- 20:22Speaker 3: His story is one of always overcoming the circumstances, whether
- 20:27Speaker 3: it was being from Belglade, Florida, or he had an
- 20:29Speaker 3: unfortunate incident with a backpack when he was a freshman
- 20:32Speaker 3: at the University of Florida, or whether it was you know,
- 20:35Speaker 3: his diet or his hamstring or the money that he lost.
- 20:38Speaker 3: And he never let know define him ever, And so
- 20:44Speaker 3: I don't expect that the Hall of Fame will be
- 20:46Speaker 3: able to tell him no either.
- 20:47Speaker 5: He is truly somebody that I am proud to know.
- 20:50Speaker 1: Very cool. We've heard so much about him.
- 20:52Speaker 2: I will give my small outside perspective because before I
- 20:56Speaker 2: came here, obviously, you guys know I all came in April.
- 20:58Speaker 2: If you said Jaguars to me, Fred Taylor is absolutely
- 21:01Speaker 2: the name that comes to my mind. And I think
- 21:02Speaker 2: that's very relevant to everyone else, especially when you're pitching
- 21:06Speaker 2: somebody you already know Fred that's top of mind. And
- 21:08Speaker 2: then when you look back at the video like I
- 21:10Speaker 2: have been this past week or so, it really jumps
- 21:12Speaker 2: off the tape to you.
- 21:13Speaker 1: So it's just a matter of time for Fred.
- 21:15Speaker 2: And of course we'll have tons of time to talk
- 21:16Speaker 2: about Fred as this process goes forward.
- 21:19Speaker 1: Stay with us here on Jagsam.
- 21:20Speaker 2: We'll get back to the game as we look ahead
- 21:22Speaker 2: to who some of our big game players are going
- 21:24Speaker 2: to be on Sunday. Jagxam brought to you by Suttuth,

- 21:59Speaker 2: assists students in pursuing post secondary education and career goals.
- 22:04Speaker 2: Of course, congratulations to Taylors hopes to attend UF next
- 22:07Speaker 2: year and of course is a member of the cheerleading squad.
- 22:12Speaker 4: I don't know about thinking about it like that. I
- 22:13Speaker 4: just just.
- 22:14Speaker 5: Go out there and be me.
- 22:15Speaker 3: Let's kind of always have That's kind of always That's
- 22:19Speaker 3: kind of how I always have been.
- 22:20Speaker 4: That's just the player I am.
- 22:20Speaker 7: That's the person I am, so never trying.
- 22:23Speaker 3: To force anything or try too hard to show anything.
- 22:25Speaker 4: I'll just go out there and be myself and just
- 22:27Speaker 4: let it.
- 22:28Speaker 7: Just let it whatever, show the chart.
- 22:31Speaker 2: Welcome back to jag Zam here and Cam Robinson's going
- 22:34Speaker 2: to be back in the mix. His window was activated.
- 22:36Speaker 2: Everything goes to plan. He'll be back on the field
- 22:38Speaker 2: this week. And John, I know he's your player that
- 22:41Speaker 2: you're going to talk about. But the cool thing about
- 22:43Speaker 2: Cam is Cam brings an energy. Cam brings something to
- 22:45Speaker 2: see and Doug Peterson mentioned it earlier this week. We
- 22:48Speaker 2: all have seen it before, but he doesn't think about
- 22:50Speaker 2: it that way because he's just being cam.
- 22:52Speaker 4: Yeah. I you know there keeps on being talked better
- 22:55Speaker 4: not being here next year.
- 22:56Speaker 1: I can't.
- 22:57Speaker 4: I hope that I get it. I get to talk.
- 23:00Speaker 1: Uh.
- 23:01Speaker 4: They need that guy. I mean, you know, I get
- 23:04Speaker 4: everything else, but I don't see that guy walking out
- 23:07Speaker 4: of the locker room. So uh, and I'm gonna go
- 23:11Speaker 4: ready for it, you know. And something needs to happen
- 23:14Speaker 4: around here. Something needs to change. I'm gonna blow your
- 23:15Speaker 4: mind here. He won't now he will. First, he won't.
- 23:20Speaker 4: He won't stay on IR this week. He'll be activated.
- 23:26Speaker 4: He will play, and he will bring the energy that
- 23:30Speaker 4: we're talking about. There's something about this team when he plays.
- 23:34Speaker 4: I think I think there's six and one with him,
- 23:36Speaker 4: U two and six without. I mean, whatever it is,
- 23:38Speaker 4: they're much better with them then without him. And I
- 23:45Speaker 4: can't say that he's going to make them a great
- 23:48Speaker 4: running team, but he might make them better enough for
- 23:52Speaker 4: them to function in the offense better than they have that.
- 23:55Speaker 4: I'm sorry that was a lot script.
- 23:56Speaker 5: Won't he will? He will? He might? Right, you're a
- 24:02Speaker 5: friend setter.
- 24:02Speaker 4: That's the kind of guy.
- 24:03Speaker 5: Yeah. Oh no, yeah, we do know, don't We absolutely know.
- 24:06Speaker 4: Don't tell me to stay in the bottom.
- 24:08Speaker 3: I was one of those people who thought that Cam
- 24:10Speaker 3: Robinson's salary cap number. He's an eighteen point seventy five
- 24:15Speaker 3: million dollar savings and with all the players that they
- 24:18Speaker 3: had to sign, I thought he was going to end
- 24:21Speaker 3: up being a salary cap casualty, especially with Walker Little.
- 24:25Speaker 3: But Little hasn't played as well as Cam Robinson, and
- 24:27Speaker 3: all of a sudden, a bunch of these guys who
- 24:30Speaker 3: who you thought you were gonna pay haven't met that
- 24:32Speaker 3: standard and you probably don't have to go out and pay.
- 24:35Speaker 3: So my sense now is you're keeping Cam Robinson. You know,
- 24:39Speaker 3: you may ask him to renegotiate a little bit, but
- 24:42Speaker 3: if I'm him, I say I'll stand on my number.
- 24:44Speaker 4: Yeah. There's just certain guys right like you look at him,
- 24:48Speaker 4: you see him talking there. He plays like a man
- 24:52Speaker 4: out there.
- 24:53Speaker 1: And be a loss in several different ways.
- 24:55Speaker 3: Yeah, and he is the ass kicker that you need
- 24:58Speaker 3: on the offensive line. You got to have one of
- 24:59Speaker 3: those guys, and he's it.
- 25:01Speaker 4: He's the me of the locker room.
- 25:03Speaker 5: Oh I love it. I'm going with Trayvon Walker.
- 25:10Speaker 3: Did you know that Trayvon Walker has more sacks right
- 25:13Speaker 3: Hudgins than the right just in cases you're wondering, and
- 25:15Speaker 3: what was people that thought that Aiden Hutchinson was a
- 25:18Speaker 3: better football player. Trayvon Walker is a terrific football player
- 25:22Speaker 3: and he is coming on strong and he will keep
- 25:24Speaker 3: that going this week.
- 25:25Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 25:27Speaker 3: He won't get three sacks necessarily in the next two games,
- 25:30Speaker 3: but he might approach that ten sack number, which seems
- 25:33Speaker 3: to be the barometer for people believing in players.
- 25:37Speaker 5: I know this.
- 25:38Speaker 3: This defense would not be as good without him. He
- 25:41Speaker 3: is a dominant player on his side of the line,
- 25:43Speaker 3: and he is learning how to pass rush. And the
- 25:45Speaker 3: way he finished that sack against the Ravens and Lamar
- 25:49Speaker 3: Jackson told me everything I needed to see. He's always
- 25:52Speaker 3: right there. He's still learning the moves right. He always
- 25:56Speaker 3: is right there. He's got to figure a couple of
- 25:57Speaker 3: things out. But it looks to me John like he
- 25:59Speaker 3: might be figuring those things out. So it was he
- 26:01Speaker 3: will he won't.
- 26:02Speaker 5: He might. He might. For me, you can't stack to
- 26:05Speaker 5: the script, but that's you.
- 26:06Speaker 4: I mean, I'm I'm more of a rebel.
- 26:08Speaker 2: You're well, I'm gonna do a little hot take with
- 26:11Speaker 2: my he will, he won't, He might because we didn't
- 26:13Speaker 2: do hot takes this week.
- 26:14Speaker 1: So my person is c J.
- 26:16Speaker 2: Bethard because I think he will play on Sunday against
- 26:19Speaker 2: the Panthers. I just get a little bit of an
- 26:20Speaker 2: inkling that because it's Trevor's throwing shoulder, it's a little
- 26:23Speaker 2: bit different. Plus what we've seen out of Trevor when
- 26:26Speaker 2: he doesn't practice hasn't translated very well. So I think
- 26:29Speaker 2: CJ will be out there for them, and he won't
- 26:32Speaker 2: be challenging anybody for the starting job. I don't think
- 26:35Speaker 2: he's taking a job from Trevor, but he might impress
- 26:38Speaker 2: you a little bit with his connections. As we've mentioned,
- 26:40Speaker 2: a lot of the starting wide receivers are out. We
- 26:42Speaker 2: don't know if say Jones is going to be available.
- 26:43Speaker 2: Christian Kirk obviously out for quite some time. But when
- 26:46Speaker 2: you see a Parker Washington, when you see a Cook's
- 26:50Speaker 2: out there, when you see even he's got a little
- 26:52Speaker 2: bit of chemistry with Calvin Ridley as well, you might
- 26:54Speaker 2: be surprised at what CJ is able to do with
- 26:58Speaker 2: this offense. And it kind of is are a little
- 27:00Speaker 2: bit different in the terms of obviously you don't have
- 27:02Speaker 2: the talent that Trevor brings to the field, not saying
- 27:04Speaker 2: that whatsoever, but CJ has a way of setting things
- 27:08Speaker 2: up for the wide receivers to make those plays, and
- 27:10Speaker 2: when you get it to Calvin, then Calvin can do
- 27:12Speaker 2: what he does. I think that might be interesting to
- 27:14Speaker 2: see if they give some significant time to see j Well,
- 27:17Speaker 2: it starts this game, and.
- 27:18Speaker 3: You're right, besides the shoulder, you know, he's the guy
- 27:20Speaker 3: who's getting the significant reps on the practice field with
- 27:23Speaker 3: guys like Washington, with Elijah Cooks, with Tim Jones, these
- 27:28Speaker 3: guys who are gonna have to contribute. He's out there
- 27:30Speaker 3: getting the reps in Trevor's not. So I get the talent,
- 27:35Speaker 3: there's no doubt. I mean, one was the number one
- 27:36Speaker 3: overall picking the draft for a reason. But this week
- 27:39Speaker 3: it just seems to me like you're.
- 27:40Speaker 2: Right, especially when you take on the Panthers. Not to
- 27:42Speaker 2: discount the Panthers because they're playing better than the Jaguars
- 27:44Speaker 2: are right now, but this seems like a game where
- 27:47Speaker 2: this can be done and with a good practice week,
- 27:49Speaker 2: this is something that can definitely happen. Stay with us
- 27:52Speaker 2: here on jag Zam. We always appreciate you joining us
- 27:54Speaker 2: and we'll be right back as we look forward to
- 27:56Speaker 2: that game on Sunday. Jags fans, if you want customized

- 28:21Speaker 2: you can visit jjvision dot com. Let's go, let's go, let's.
- 28:28Speaker 9: Go, let's go, let's go, let's go, let's go, let's go.
- 28:54Speaker 1: A lot of urgency from Evan Ingram.
- 28:55Speaker 2: You know, he's been a big target as he approaches
- 28:57Speaker 2: that catches all time catches. I know Jimmy Smith has
- 29:00Speaker 2: the numbers, but Evan's getting up there and it's impressive
- 29:03Speaker 2: for a tight end to be able to do that
- 29:04Speaker 2: as well. We're looking forward to this Panthers game. For me,
- 29:07Speaker 2: I don't know what you guys a looking for. I'm
- 29:08Speaker 2: looking for just the effort out there, the focus they've
- 29:11Speaker 2: been lacking confidence. I just want to see them get
- 29:13Speaker 2: out there, get something early and just let that momentum
- 29:16Speaker 2: ride because they just got to get a win to
- 29:18Speaker 2: kind of get over this hump.
- 29:19Speaker 5: In my mind, I'd like to see him grind went out,
- 29:21Speaker 5: you know.
- 29:21Speaker 3: I mean, everyone wants to see a forty two to
- 29:23Speaker 3: seven kind of game, but I don't think if you
- 29:26Speaker 3: have your backup quarterback, especially.
- 29:28Speaker 5: That you can count on that.
- 29:29Speaker 3: I just want to see him get through and get
- 29:30Speaker 3: to the end of the game and have something that
- 29:32Speaker 3: they can go, hey, we're in that this week.
- 29:34Speaker 5: We're back on track.
- 29:35Speaker 4: Yeah, get a lead, make the Panthers play uphill and
- 29:38Speaker 4: show them the better team. You're the better team, play
- 29:41Speaker 4: like it, and they've played They haven't played like that
- 29:45Speaker 4: enough lately, and I think they will, but we got
- 29:48Speaker 4: to see it.
- 29:49Speaker 1: Have to go out and prove it.
- 29:50Speaker 2: Season is on the line against the Panthers this week,
- 29:53Speaker 2: and of course we hope you guys enjoy the game.
- 29:54Speaker 2: We'll be back here on Jagszam next week to go
- 29:56Speaker 2: over everything that goes down.
