- 0:11Speaker 1: I remember the first time I watched the Olympics and.
- 0:23Speaker 2: France came out with the national anthem. It's the Lions.
- 0:37Speaker 2: It was based off the French National Anthem. Yeah, I
- 0:42Speaker 2: had no idea.
- 0:43Speaker 3: Jonathan Brown with us for the podcast in the shed today.
- 0:45Speaker 4: Brownie, we didn't talk about this in the bonus round,
- 0:48Speaker 4: but it was only a few months ago that you
- 0:50Speaker 4: had a major surgery.
- 0:51Speaker 3: You had a brain tumour.
- 0:53Speaker 2: Yeah, I did, yeah.
- 0:53Speaker 5: It was a bit of a shock. Not the phone
- 0:56Speaker 5: call you're expecting because I didn't have any symptoms. The AFL,
- 1:00Speaker 5: they've got a program in place where you can take
- 1:03Speaker 5: your baseline test for your All it entails is a
- 1:07Speaker 5: brain scan.
- 1:08Speaker 3: So you didn't have any warnings? You weren't getting headaches
- 1:10Speaker 3: or anything?
- 1:10Speaker 6: No, no.
- 1:11Speaker 5: I might have fell out of the piss a couple
- 1:12Speaker 5: of times. Forgot Kylie's name from time to time.
- 1:16Speaker 2: Just as long as you didn't call her a different one,
- 1:19Speaker 2: it's all right. Cinnamon or cherry or something. Did you
- 1:24Speaker 2: pick the kids up cinnamon?
- 1:25Speaker 5: No, that was a different life. As I may say, yeah,
- 1:32Speaker 5: I think you probably should have a baseline at the
- 1:34Speaker 5: start of your footy career. But it was for no
- 1:37Speaker 5: other reason apart from Kylie or Cinnamon, I should say.
- 1:41Speaker 2: Annoying me into it. I suppose all the publicity around
- 1:43Speaker 2: CTE with handbox, which you would get in your sport, boys.
- 1:47Speaker 5: And she had a few partners and mates of hers
- 1:50Speaker 5: that the lads had probably followed it up. Anyway, so
- 1:56Speaker 5: they followed it up. It was a neuro psych exam
- 1:58Speaker 5: and went for about four or five hours. The one
- 2:01Speaker 5: where you sat.
- 2:02Speaker 2: Down and did all the stuff. All the problem solving.
- 2:04Speaker 2: I did that when I retired. It is a long day.
- 2:08Speaker 2: It's a long day, isn't it?
- 2:09Speaker 5: And then I thought the easy part was walking up
- 2:11Speaker 5: the hill to St. Andrews Hospital here and just getting
- 2:14Speaker 5: a 15-minute brain scan. Now, I probably should have clicked
- 2:18Speaker 5: because I was halfway home to the Gold Coast and
- 2:20Speaker 5: I get a phone call from the hospital saying, are
- 2:22Speaker 5: you still in the hospital?
- 2:24Speaker 2: Oh, no. What was that?
- 2:25Speaker 5: They said, oh, we just want you to come back
- 2:26Speaker 5: and do a, an extra part of the scan. And
- 2:29Speaker 5: I said, oh, is there any problem? They go, no, no, no,
- 2:30Speaker 5: it's fine. Just can you come back in the next
- 2:33Speaker 5: couple of days? That probably should have been the first
- 2:35Speaker 5: red flag. Anyway, I went back a couple of days
- 2:37Speaker 5: later and then because it was through the AFL, the
- 2:42Speaker 5: next morning I had a lot of missed calls from
- 2:44Speaker 5: the AFL because I had saved.
- 2:46Speaker 2: Him your phone. I thought, what have I said on TV?
- 2:54Speaker 2: And anyway, I.
- 2:56Speaker 5: Finally got back to him as the chief medical officer
- 2:58Speaker 5: at the AFL and said, there's a problem with your
- 3:01Speaker 5: brain scan.
- 3:01Speaker 2: I said, well, I'm glad you found something.
- 3:03Speaker 5: A lot of people thought it was just going to
- 3:05Speaker 5: be a hollow case. He goes, nah, it's like he said,
- 3:09Speaker 5: it's serious. You've got a big shadow on your brain. And, um,
- 3:14Speaker 5: all I can tell you now is you'll be having
- 3:15Speaker 5: brain surgery. And I was like, shit, are you?
- 3:18Speaker 2: Hang on a minute.
- 3:20Speaker 5: And so he said, you know, we need you to
- 3:23Speaker 5: get to Melbourne ASAP. So yeah, it was pretty tough. Well,
- 3:26Speaker 5: the first initial phone call, he goes, can we have
- 3:29Speaker 5: a chat to you, preferably this afternoon, with your wife
- 3:31Speaker 5: on the phone regarding your brain scan? I thought, fuck,
- 3:34Speaker 5: that's probably normally not that good. So anyway, it all
- 3:38Speaker 5: happened pretty quick. And within the next, I reckon, four
- 3:41Speaker 5: or five days later, I was on, on the table
- 3:43Speaker 5: going in for a brain surgery.
- 3:45Speaker 2: So pretty surreal, really.
- 3:46Speaker 3: And what, they got a tumour out?
- 3:48Speaker 5: Tumour, yeah, it was about the size of a golf ball.
- 3:50Speaker 5: I was looking for that golf ball. Yeah, sorry about that.
- 3:54Speaker 1: Four?
- 3:54Speaker 2: I said four.
- 3:55Speaker 1: I do play with Sammy Walker a.
- 3:58Speaker 5: Bit, so I don't know if I can blame Sammy.
- 4:02Speaker 5: It might have been left over from the pre-season. But yeah, anyway,
- 4:09Speaker 5: it was a nerve-wracking few days because the surgeon... When
- 4:13Speaker 5: I walked in there to see the surgeon and he
- 4:15Speaker 5: showed me the scan, I was like, fuck. It was
- 4:19Speaker 5: like literally a golf ball in the middle of your brain.
- 4:23Speaker 5: It showed up white on the scan. He said, there's
- 4:27Speaker 5: a few troubling features to this. It was like getting
- 4:31Speaker 5: kicked in the chest by a horse. I was a
- 4:35Speaker 5: nervous few days because mine was a cystic tumour, which
- 4:39Speaker 5: can be, a cystic tumour can be a a glioblastoma
- 4:44Speaker 5: which is grade four which you're pretty much you're in
- 4:47Speaker 5: all sorts okay or it could be a fortunate enough
- 4:50Speaker 5: for me a grade one like mine was but they
- 4:52Speaker 5: don't know until they get it out and send it to.
- 4:54Speaker 2: Pathology so even after you're still.
- 4:56Speaker 5: Yeah well first and foremost you've got to be able
- 4:59Speaker 5: to get to it safely because then you touch any
- 5:01Speaker 5: of the brain tissue and you can be impaired for
- 5:04Speaker 5: the rest of your life in a number of different
- 5:05Speaker 5: ways so mine was on my frontal lobe um which
- 5:08Speaker 5: is problem-solving personality. So it might have been an improvement.
- 5:14Speaker 3: And they cut your skull open?
- 5:19Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah. So it's actually healed up pretty good. That's
- 5:22Speaker 2: a nice job.
- 5:23Speaker 3: Wow.
- 5:24Speaker 5: Well, they take a big hole out of your skull
- 5:26Speaker 5: and then I think they just put it in the
- 5:28Speaker 5: fridge while we were doing the surgery and then they put.
- 5:30Speaker 2: It back on. In the ASCII. Wow. Yeah, it was bizarre.
- 5:34Speaker 5: So as you imagine, I was pretty nervous going in
- 5:36Speaker 5: because I wasn't sure how I was going to wake up.
- 5:39Speaker 5: And then when I woke up, okay, the TV was
- 5:43Speaker 5: on in my room and the Millionaire hot seat was on.
- 5:46Speaker 5: So I got to the $ 8, 000 question.
- 5:48Speaker 2: I'm like, fuck, I'm here. I'm going right. It's actually smarter.
- 5:53Speaker 2: They want to tweak the cut.
- 5:54Speaker 3: They souped you up.
- 5:56Speaker 5: They did clips up on there. Anyway, and I got that.
- 6:01Speaker 5: But then the weight was. So first of all, ticked
- 6:03Speaker 5: that off. Got that off safely. The surgeon said it
- 6:08Speaker 5: didn't hit any. of your brain tissue, which is important.
- 6:13Speaker 5: He said, I've honestly never seen one like this in
- 6:15Speaker 5: my career. He said yours was wrapped in such a
- 6:17Speaker 5: beautiful tight bundle that I could just make the neatest
- 6:21Speaker 5: incision and you're welcome, like he said. He said it's
- 6:25Speaker 5: like it had a protective netting around it, like Spider-Man almost. Anyway,
- 6:29Speaker 5: and then I had to wait for a few days
- 6:31Speaker 5: to find out whether it was the bad one or
- 6:33Speaker 5: whether it was.
- 6:34Speaker 2: A better one. Fortunately enough.
- 6:36Speaker 5: It was a good brain tumour in the context of
- 6:40Speaker 5: whether it's going to kill.
- 6:41Speaker 2: You or not.
- 6:41Speaker 3: And what's the recovery on that then when they put
- 6:43Speaker 3: your head back together?
- 6:45Speaker 2: Well... You've got to find the right skull first. That's right.
- 6:49Speaker 7: Make sure it's the right one.
- 6:52Speaker 2: Exactly.
- 6:53Speaker 5: So they sort of put that back in. I was
- 6:57Speaker 5: in hospital for a few days and wasn't allowed to fly.
- 7:01Speaker 5: The surgery was done in Melbourne.
- 7:02Speaker 4: Right.
- 7:03Speaker 5: Carly was wrapped with that. So I've been a bit,
- 7:05Speaker 5: two or three days, two or three weeks away from
- 7:07Speaker 5: the kids. Carly had a great little holiday.
- 7:09Speaker 2: Nice. No, it was, uh, yeah.
- 7:11Speaker 5: So we started in there and then, well, I haven't
- 7:13Speaker 5: been allowed to drive for a few months and just got,
- 7:16Speaker 5: I saw the surgeon a couple of weeks ago. I
- 7:17Speaker 5: got me license back or I'm allowed to drive.
- 7:20Speaker 2: Right. Not allowed to have a, a beer yet. Still
- 7:22Speaker 2: not allowed to have a drink. I think I'd rather
- 7:24Speaker 2: fucking get Ubers than fucking be allowed to have a drink. Yeah.
- 7:27Speaker 2: Do you have to go back for scans still?
- 7:29Speaker 5: Yeah, I had a good scan a couple of weeks ago.
- 7:31Speaker 5: So it's all going well. And, um, in the right track.
- 7:34Speaker 5: So yeah, it was unbelievable. But I guess the thing
- 7:38Speaker 5: that had come out of it for me was you just,
- 7:40Speaker 5: you never know what's around the corner. So I wasn't
- 7:42Speaker 5: expecting that phone call. You just got to make the
- 7:44Speaker 5: most of life, don't you? And try to live every
- 7:47Speaker 5: day in the moment.
- 7:48Speaker 2: Is that how you get all your boys trips in there? Yeah, absolutely.
- 7:51Speaker 1: You never know.
- 7:51Speaker 2: You just never know. What else are we doing? Superbowl?
- 7:57Speaker 2: Golf trips? See, now you haven't had yours done, have you?
- 8:00Speaker 2: You don't want to do it?
- 8:01Speaker 5: Nah.
- 8:02Speaker 2: Yeah. I want to know. Yeah.
- 8:05Speaker 3: I feel like, well, I mean, like.
- 8:06Speaker 2: No, but I'm serious.
- 8:07Speaker 8: I'll just leave him alone. If you die, you die.
- 8:09Speaker 8: At the end of the day.
- 8:11Speaker 2: Yeah. Get a check, mate. It scares the hell out
- 8:13Speaker 2: of me. Well, the thing is, I've lived a good
- 8:14Speaker 2: life anyway. Bloody hell. It's the head knocks that scare me.
- 8:17Speaker 5: Well, the head knocks, it's ironic, isn't it? The guy
- 8:20Speaker 5: said it has nothing to do with head knocks.
- 8:21Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 8:21Speaker 5: He said you're actually fine from that. from a brain
- 8:24Speaker 5: point of view, a functionality point of view. So it
- 8:28Speaker 5: was quite ironic that that's the reason I went and
- 8:29Speaker 5: got the test.
- 8:30Speaker 7: Mine grew, actually, my brain. I said, there's something there.
- 8:33Speaker 7: I said, well, hey, you're building.
- 8:35Speaker 2: Last time there wasn't anything.
- 8:37Speaker 4: And Kyle's got a saying out of it, nagging wives
- 8:41Speaker 4: save lives.
- 8:41Speaker 2: Nagging wives save lives, exactly.
- 8:43Speaker 6: She's got the merch range coming out soon. She's making
- 8:47Speaker 6: hats and T-shirts.
- 8:48Speaker 8: It would, actually.
- 8:49Speaker 2: I'm cooked now for the rest of my life, don't I?
- 8:51Speaker 2: I've got to listen to Carl's. Oh, that is it.
- 8:55Speaker 2: She's got a big one, hasn't she? She does. She
- 8:57Speaker 2: really saves it. You take the good with the bad.
- 8:59Speaker 2: Boys trips you get, but then you get nagging wife
- 9:01Speaker 2: the rest of the way.
- 9:01Speaker 5: Well, that saved a few arguments because when I really
- 9:04Speaker 5: go to one lane, then I really remember going, hang
- 9:06Speaker 5: on a minute.
- 9:07Speaker 2: It's probably saved me life, yeah.
- 9:11Speaker 5: But, you know, look, it's... And it's funny because I
- 9:14Speaker 5: didn't have the symptoms and I said to the surgeon,
- 9:16Speaker 5: how would we have found it? And he goes, where
- 9:18Speaker 5: yours was placed, he said it would have been either
- 9:20Speaker 5: a stroke or a seizure.
- 9:22Speaker 2: Wow. And soon enough. So you're sort of so grateful.
- 9:25Speaker 2: Far out. That you weren't driving a.
- 9:28Speaker 5: Car or out doing something and something catastrophic happened, you know?
- 9:32Speaker 3: All right, so let's talk footy finals. We'll start with
- 9:34Speaker 3: the AFL.
- 9:35Speaker 4: We've got the Lions trying for a little bit of
- 9:38Speaker 4: redemption against Adelaide. Adelaide, they had a win last weekend,
- 9:43Speaker 4: which is why they're here. Lions, they only put on
- 9:46Speaker 4: 40 points against the Swans.
- 9:48Speaker 2: Yeah, they're pretty poor. Yeah, very poor. Their head wasn't
- 9:50Speaker 2: in the game.
- 9:51Speaker 5: I think that's the worst performance for the year, especially
- 9:54Speaker 5: in under man Sydney so I'd expected them to bounce
- 9:56Speaker 5: back buoyed by Zach Bailey's re-signing and they couldn't play
- 10:00Speaker 5: as bad Sydney had a lot of players play the
- 10:03Speaker 5: best game they'll ever play in their careers and the
- 10:05Speaker 5: Brisbane Lions had caught a lot of players that played
- 10:08Speaker 5: the worst game they ever played in their careers.
- 10:09Speaker 7: It was hard to watch hard to watch the Dockers
- 10:12Speaker 7: and the Lions I turned it off I.
- 10:15Speaker 9: Was like yeah let's go and I'm like this this
- 10:18Speaker 9: is awful very similar and you just go so that
- 10:21Speaker 9: stage of the year if you're not quite up for
- 10:24Speaker 9: it and the opposition comes ready to play you can
- 10:28Speaker 9: overcome a lot of talent deficiencies like the Swans.
- 10:32Speaker 7: Do you think Fagan nailed it you know how they
- 10:34Speaker 7: always say you read don't press too much I feel
- 10:35Speaker 7: like Both those teams probably read into their own press
- 10:40Speaker 7: too much, and it looked like they all thought it
- 10:42Speaker 7: was going to come easy, but then you've got a
- 10:44Speaker 7: team that's hungry. And like you said, the other team
- 10:47Speaker 7: played a great game, and they played awesome.
- 10:48Speaker 2: I think the free man was sort of that different.
- 10:50Speaker 5: You know, and Jay, the producer, would know about this,
- 10:53Speaker 5: you know, because he's a mad Fremantle tragic, because they'd
- 10:55Speaker 5: already booked his grand final flights and tickets.
- 10:58Speaker 2: Oh, Bruce. Bruce, you mean. Bruce. That's right, Brucey, is it? Brucey.
- 11:04Speaker 5: So Brucey mightn't get a trip this year, because they're
- 11:07Speaker 5: vulnerable on Friday night against the Cats. But I think
- 11:10Speaker 5: the Lions were just, you're right, they'd read too much
- 11:13Speaker 5: of that press, whereas the Fremantle, I think, suffered under
- 11:15Speaker 5: the pressure of the state.
- 11:17Speaker 2: Right.
- 11:18Speaker 4: And that'll be a Perth game, Frio take it on Geelong.
- 11:21Speaker 8: Geelong, yeah.
- 11:23Speaker 3: I thought, a lot of people did, thought it was
- 11:25Speaker 3: going to be Lions-Frio grand final.
- 11:27Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah.
- 11:27Speaker 3: That's the way it was looking this season. But do
- 11:28Speaker 3: you reckon they could bounce.
- 11:29Speaker 2: Back, Frio? Yeah, they can. They can.
- 11:32Speaker 5: It's dangerous. Geelong, they're well coached. I feel I've got
- 11:35Speaker 5: some improvement in them. It's the unknown of free men
- 11:38Speaker 5: or how they recover. We saw Adelaide Crows last year.
- 11:41Speaker 5: finished on top and went out in straight sets. And
- 11:43Speaker 5: it's a wonder whether the same thing's going to happen
- 11:45Speaker 5: to Fremantle. So senior players failed under the bright lights.
- 11:50Speaker 2: And we've seen that. And Geelong, they all thrived. Yeah, exactly.
- 11:54Speaker 2: Geelong thrived. They've got a lot of veterans that have
- 11:56Speaker 2: played well in big games.
- 11:57Speaker 6: I reckon there was a little bit of that last
- 11:59Speaker 6: year's ghost hanging around for the Crows in that game
- 12:01Speaker 6: because they weren't great for three quarters. They hung in there.
- 12:05Speaker 6: The fourth quarter they kind of kicked. only off the
- 12:07Speaker 6: back of the Bulldogs making some.
- 12:09Speaker 2: Bad kicks in front.
- 12:10Speaker 8: It's a good point, Sammy.
- 12:10Speaker 5: I felt that at the stadium. I called that game.
- 12:12Speaker 5: You feel the tension in the stadium. Before it, there's
- 12:14Speaker 5: a feeling. So I've overcome that, but I think the
- 12:20Speaker 5: Lions should beat them.
- 12:21Speaker 6: Funny, I got to go down to Canberra this year
- 12:23Speaker 6: and watch almost a corresponding game with the Broncos versus Canberra.
- 12:27Speaker 8: Oh, yeah.
- 12:28Speaker 6: And Canberra got out in front, but it's like they
- 12:30Speaker 6: didn't know how to win or finish that game. And
- 12:32Speaker 6: that's kind of what I saw watching that game there too.
- 12:35Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 12:36Speaker 6: You know, hopefully the Lions take that on in this game.
- 12:40Speaker 6: I don't know what you boys.
- 12:41Speaker 5: Would like, but with the coaches, I know Lee Matthews
- 12:45Speaker 5: never went for the lever of we're going for three
- 12:47Speaker 5: in a row. He's always very much about game to game.
- 12:51Speaker 5: Every season he's unique. But he did go for it.
- 12:54Speaker 5: He reached for it in a prelim final, actually, in 0-3.
- 12:57Speaker 5: And it was the first time he'd mentioned it for
- 12:59Speaker 5: that whole season from the first day of pre-season. Took
- 13:02Speaker 5: him until, you know, the back end of September and
- 13:05Speaker 5: to go for it. Just almost that artificial lift for
- 13:08Speaker 5: the boys. And I feel like the players are smart
- 13:10Speaker 5: enough and maybe Faggs has reached for that.
- 13:12Speaker 2: Hey, boys, it's fucking hard to get back to this
- 13:15Speaker 2: point in time.
- 13:17Speaker 8: Well, they've been in the last three. And they're losing
- 13:19Speaker 8: some players.
- 13:20Speaker 2: They'd be losing some players. That's right. You're losing players.
- 13:22Speaker 5: The list will never be the same. So I think
- 13:24Speaker 5: that'll be enough on Saturday night.
- 13:26Speaker 4: Faggs actually has been pretty good with the stuff that
- 13:28Speaker 4: he said. It seemed like Sydney just caught him by surprise.
- 13:31Speaker 4: They just weren't expecting Sydney to be this good.
- 13:34Speaker 3: Actually, no one was though. The bookies were. They lost
- 13:36Speaker 3: five and now six of their best.
- 13:38Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 13:39Speaker 3: And they're still going strong. Is it done? Can they
- 13:43Speaker 3: keep this going? Surely they've had their win.
- 13:46Speaker 5: Well, they're based on the emotional factor. Look, the connection.
- 13:50Speaker 5: Dean Cox done an unbelievable job.
- 13:51Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 13:52Speaker 5: Imagine he's in the foyer that day at the Pullman,
- 13:54Speaker 5: you know, when he got told who the players were.
- 13:57Speaker 2: He was a seasoned diver. You know, like.
- 14:00Speaker 5: Your best players, those three boys would have been in
- 14:02Speaker 5: the Australian team, which is. like your Dell EM team
- 14:05Speaker 5: of the year. So amazing what they did. But I
- 14:10Speaker 5: think when you get to the final four, I think
- 14:13Speaker 5: the cream rise to the top, and that's why you
- 14:15Speaker 5: ultimately win the premierships. And when you don't have your
- 14:18Speaker 5: best players out there, I don't think they're going to
- 14:20Speaker 5: be able to get it done. Now, whether they can
- 14:22Speaker 5: get it done in the prelim final remains to be seen.
- 14:26Speaker 5: But in terms of holding the cup up, I think
- 14:28Speaker 5: they'll be long, long odds still, even though they've got
- 14:30Speaker 5: the week off.
- 14:31Speaker 3: So on the back of that then, who do you
- 14:32Speaker 3: reckon is going to be in the GF?
- 14:37Speaker 2: I think... No pressure, just picking. I think it might
- 14:42Speaker 2: be a replay. It might be Brisbane-Geelong. Yeah. After the
- 14:46Speaker 2: Dodgers game, I think the same thing. And then Geelong winning. Yeah,
- 14:50Speaker 2: it'll be interesting.
- 14:51Speaker 5: It'll be unlikely because you'd have a team that lost
- 14:53Speaker 5: the first week and then a team that's come from fifth.
- 14:56Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 14:56Speaker 5: But you know what I love about this final series,
- 14:59Speaker 5: and take the Brisbane cap off for a second, is
- 15:01Speaker 5: that because of the massive upsets the first two weeks,
- 15:04Speaker 5: especially the Sydney one, and then Fremantle and Hawthorne, it's
- 15:07Speaker 5: thrown the finals wide open. So any of those last
- 15:12Speaker 5: six teams could win it. Like I've said with Sydney,
- 15:15Speaker 5: I think it's going to be tough for Sydney, but
- 15:17Speaker 5: any of those teams could win it.
- 15:19Speaker 4: You mentioned earlier that you've been playing a bit of
- 15:20Speaker 4: golf recently. with Sammy Walker.
- 15:24Speaker 3: So let's talk about Roosters. What do you reckon, and
- 15:26Speaker 3: this is for all three of you, what do you
- 15:28Speaker 3: reckon about the Roosters without Sammy Walker? Can they win it?
- 15:33Speaker 2: Ooh. Yeah.
- 15:34Speaker 3: They can without him?
- 15:36Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 15:37Speaker 8: Is it because of Hugo Savalas?
- 15:40Speaker 2: Thank you for saying the name. I had no idea.
- 15:42Speaker 2: It's not even a hard name, mate. I was just
- 15:46Speaker 2: going to go with Hugo. It's a great name, isn't it?
- 15:48Speaker 2: The Cries have got Hugo. Every team needs a Hugo.
- 15:52Speaker 8: Every team needs a Ginger and a Hugo.
- 15:55Speaker 2: And they've got all of them. They've got all of them.
- 15:57Speaker 2: They've got everyone. Who's their Ginger?
- 15:59Speaker 8: Oh, DCE.
- 16:00Speaker 2: There you go. Strawberry Blonde.
- 16:02Speaker 7: But anyway, I think DCE with the leadership, but then
- 16:07Speaker 7: that Hugo, he's played how many positions this year and
- 16:10Speaker 7: he's done.
- 16:10Speaker 2: A bloody good job. It'll be the same in AFL.
- 16:12Speaker 7: When you get a guy in that is so good
- 16:16Speaker 7: at two, three, four positions, but his best position... Well,
- 16:20Speaker 7: for Hugo, it's 5-8. And now he gets to play that.
- 16:24Speaker 2: He was killing it at centre too. But they've got
- 16:26Speaker 2: some players back. I've been watching it. I think they're
- 16:28Speaker 2: a massive chance, easily.
- 16:30Speaker 6: Yeah, Rhys Robson's great there at nine. Tedesco's there at fullback.
- 16:33Speaker 6: And then you've got.
- 16:36Speaker 2: Radley back this week. You've got who else? The whole
- 16:42Speaker 2: team's back because they rested.
- 16:44Speaker 8: They rested everyone.
- 16:45Speaker 6: From a timing point of view, like, Crichton's back as.
- 16:49Speaker 7: Well yeah their whole team is back and I think
- 16:52Speaker 7: I said my pick was Roosters Warriors if that's still
- 16:55Speaker 7: a possibility with the way it all lines up that's
- 16:59Speaker 7: my that's still my pick.
- 17:01Speaker 5: There might end up being a master straight at Cherry
- 17:03Speaker 5: Evans recruitment because a lot of the year has been
- 17:05Speaker 5: criticised does it impact on Sammy's game and all that
- 17:09Speaker 5: Sammy had an amazing origin series but Maybe it might
- 17:13Speaker 5: be the Masters straight now because Sammy's not there.
- 17:15Speaker 2: Yeah. And Cherry Evans can just control the ship on
- 17:17Speaker 2: his own. Yeah.
- 17:18Speaker 6: Well, I think if anything, DC has helped Sammy develop
- 17:22Speaker 6: his game even more, give him.
- 17:23Speaker 8: More confidence to play the game. I thought they were
- 17:25Speaker 8: really good together.
- 17:26Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah.
- 17:27Speaker 5: It just took them a little while to get going,
- 17:28Speaker 5: didn't it?
- 17:28Speaker 2: Yeah. And they found their niche. But then when Sammy
- 17:30Speaker 2: was out in Origin, Hugo, like with Cherry, with Bailey,
- 17:34Speaker 2: it was pretty great.
- 17:37Speaker 7: Their team is so good. Tedesco stands up almost when,
- 17:41Speaker 7: Sam's not there. And then it kind of relaxes daily.
- 17:44Speaker 7: And I think they're just, the way that they work
- 17:48Speaker 7: and the way their team, it's always one of the
- 17:50Speaker 7: best teams I've seen for a while. Like when they
- 17:52Speaker 7: lose someone, there's no worry that the guy coming in is.
- 17:56Speaker 2: Going to do quite a good job.
- 17:57Speaker 8: They've got star power across the field.
- 17:59Speaker 6: Martin Awongeniwasa on the wing.
- 18:01Speaker 8: Say his name again?
- 18:02Speaker 2: Mark.
- 18:03Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 18:03Speaker 2: Mark, Mark, Mark. Come on, Oatsy. Mate, I can't pronounce
- 18:07Speaker 2: my own name, let alone.
- 18:08Speaker 8: Nafahu White has been one of the best front rowers.
- 18:10Speaker 2: English is my second language. Yeah.
- 18:13Speaker 5: It must be a country Victorian thing because Oatsy are related.
- 18:16Speaker 2: Yeah. Country Victorian. Can't you tell? I think that's why.
- 18:21Speaker 2: We're not great pronunciers. That's not a word. Yes. That
- 18:28Speaker 2: is an OT word.
- 18:30Speaker 7: I've said one of those words in some earlier podcasts.
- 18:36Speaker 3: Now, you started talking about this before we got in
- 18:39Speaker 3: the shed.
- 18:39Speaker 2: We did.
- 18:40Speaker 3: You reckon you might be families from somewhere back in the.
- 18:42Speaker 7: Well, because my dad's family, they're all country Victorians.
- 18:48Speaker 2: Up in the outways, was it? Up in the farms? Yeah,
- 18:51Speaker 2: they're all still there. Well, they're still there.
- 18:53Speaker 7: So my granddad that just passed away, his family is
- 18:57Speaker 7: all there. That's where he grew up. And it was
- 19:00Speaker 7: only a couple of weeks ago when I seen him
- 19:02Speaker 7: for his funeral that they brought up Randy and said, look,
- 19:06Speaker 7: if you ever run into him like this, I asked
- 19:07Speaker 7: him if he knows about the relation.
- 19:09Speaker 2: I went, wait, what? We've been related this whole time?
- 19:12Speaker 2: No one's told me.
- 19:13Speaker 3: Does that make it weird that you pashed that Mad Monday?
- 19:15Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 19:16Speaker 6: Yeah, maybe.
- 19:16Speaker 2: I don't know. Hey, country Victorian. It's all right. Way on.
- 19:20Speaker 8: Six to go.
- 19:22Speaker 5: Well, you ought to know my grandfather, Corker Brown. But
- 19:26Speaker 5: the old man mentioned the other day. I said I
- 19:27Speaker 5: was coming. the podcast, The Boys, and he said, I
- 19:30Speaker 5: think we were related to Corey Oates and The Boys.
- 19:33Speaker 3: That's a cracking name.
- 19:34Speaker 2: You can't tell?
- 19:35Speaker 3: Corker Brown.
- 19:36Speaker 2: Corker Brown. He was born Roland.
- 19:39Speaker 7: You never hear Roland anymore.
- 19:41Speaker 5: And his old man, back in the days, would have
- 19:44Speaker 5: been in the 30s or 20s, I guess, and the
- 19:46Speaker 5: old man, the dads couldn't go to the birth.
- 19:48Speaker 2: And then he'd come in to serve.
- 19:50Speaker 5: Young Roland and he goes, he's a big boy, he goes, Jesus,
- 19:54Speaker 5: isn't he a corker?
- 19:56Speaker 2: And from that.
- 19:57Speaker 5: Point on it was always corker. I remember the old
- 20:00Speaker 5: phone books, it was in the phone book. He was
- 20:06Speaker 5: a legend.
- 20:07Speaker 3: Friday night footy, we've got the Rabideaus who are just.
- 20:10Speaker 2: On fire at the moment.
- 20:11Speaker 3: Rabideaus take it on the nights, this is a knockout game.
- 20:13Speaker 2: The loser's gone.
- 20:15Speaker 7: I think this is a bloody good game of footy.
- 20:17Speaker 7: I think the finals this week is going to be exciting.
- 20:21Speaker 2: Footy, both. Both codes. I think it's a bloody good
- 20:25Speaker 2: weekend of sport for us. But this is a hard game.
- 20:30Speaker 2: I really, I don't know. Because Knights, you know, they're missing,
- 20:34Speaker 2: what's his name, with the head, with the high tackle,
- 20:37Speaker 2: the prop.
- 20:38Speaker 8: What's his name?
- 20:39Speaker 2: The brother. Saifidi.
- 20:40Speaker 7: I just couldn't think of the name, mate.
- 20:42Speaker 2: He's suspended. He's suspended.
- 20:45Speaker 7: But the Knights are, like, they're just, they're turning up.
- 20:49Speaker 7: Whoever comes in, they're doing a good job.
- 20:51Speaker 2: They're the team with the most momentum. They are. They're
- 20:55Speaker 2: in the bottom four. Yeah. It's a really hard game
- 20:58Speaker 2: for me to pick. I really can't. I'm splitting them
- 21:01Speaker 2: down the middle.
- 21:01Speaker 5: Isn't it funny how you try and do your predictions,
- 21:03Speaker 5: but quite often history tells us the team that, can
- 21:07Speaker 5: just get that sweet spot of momentum in the last
- 21:09Speaker 5: six weeks of the year. So you get into early, mid-August,
- 21:14Speaker 5: from that point on, they can carry him through September.
- 21:17Speaker 5: So that might be that team there.
- 21:18Speaker 7: And the Roosters wrestling everyone last week has that, you know,
- 21:22Speaker 7: made it harder now for the Knights to win this
- 21:24Speaker 7: game because the Rabbitohs.
- 21:26Speaker 2: Put on a, clinic they scored all those.
- 21:29Speaker 6: Points yeah high emotions though for the for the bunnies
- 21:32Speaker 6: the last couple of weeks with you know jive 99
- 21:35Speaker 6: and then 100 games that was amazing yeah so you
- 21:38Speaker 6: know that's that's got to be somewhat deflating at some
- 21:42Speaker 6: point in time as well you can't always be up
- 21:44Speaker 6: up up up um or the you know the flip
- 21:47Speaker 6: side is they use that for motivation.
- 21:48Speaker 2: The whole way so yeah as a kid.
- 21:50Speaker 5: 1999 2005 was the last real state of origin, Victoria
- 21:55Speaker 5: versus South Australia, when the state of origin used to
- 21:57Speaker 5: be big in the AFL.
- 21:58Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
- 21:59Speaker 5: Teddy Witten was our, oh, jeez, I'm trying to compare him.
- 22:03Speaker 5: He was almost like the legendary player.
- 22:08Speaker 2: Like the king. Well, he was like the king, really.
- 22:13Speaker 5: And he was dying of prostate cancer, and he couldn't
- 22:17Speaker 5: be the chairman of selectors for the last game, but
- 22:19Speaker 5: he did the lap of honour. before the game, and
- 22:21Speaker 5: there was 90,000 people there. It was the most emotional thing, memory,
- 22:25Speaker 5: I think, of AFL football. And the Joy Arrow thing,
- 22:30Speaker 5: I think that was on the same level when I
- 22:32Speaker 5: saw the pictures of the imagery of that the other day.
- 22:34Speaker 2: It was incredible. It was just profound. It was amazing, really.
- 22:37Speaker 2: And it was a great initiative, too, by the NRL
- 22:40Speaker 2: to do that. I loved it. Yeah, I loved it.
- 22:43Speaker 2: We've said they don't get a lot right. No, they
- 22:46Speaker 2: nailed it.
- 22:47Speaker 6: Sometimes they put the game ahead of players, and it
- 22:49Speaker 6: was really nice to see a player being put ahead
- 22:51Speaker 6: of the game for once.
- 22:52Speaker 2: Oh, nice. That was good.
- 22:53Speaker 4: Do you think South, though, surely they'll still have him involved?
- 22:58Speaker 2: Yeah, no, he'll be there, yeah.
- 23:00Speaker 6: And I think Latrell's played a couple of games now.
- 23:02Speaker 6: He's got more minutes in his legs. He needs to practice.
- 23:05Speaker 6: He's the one that scares me. Yeah, if he turns
- 23:08Speaker 6: one on, it'll be great.
- 23:09Speaker 8: That left-hand side.
- 23:11Speaker 2: Oh, the hit.
- 23:12Speaker 8: Oh, he killed that young halfback.
- 23:14Speaker 2: I feel sorry for him. I think I lost my breath.
- 23:16Speaker 2: Did you see anything else?
- 23:18Speaker 8: Oh, he was such a great guy. Haven't you seen it?
- 23:20Speaker 2: No, no, no.
- 23:21Speaker 3: Mate, a young fella for the Roosters, he's.
- 23:23Speaker 8: I think, young halfback.
- 23:24Speaker 7: I think he's second game, He's had a couple of games, but,
- 23:27Speaker 7: But he's 80 kilo ring away.
- 23:28Speaker 3: Good one to.
- 23:30Speaker 2: Remind a young fella just where he is. Just where
- 23:33Speaker 2: he is in the pecking order. He stood over him
- 23:35Speaker 2: as well.
- 23:36Speaker 3: While he's like half concussed on the ground, Luttrell's just
- 23:39Speaker 3: gone walking to the first grade. So your young fella,
- 23:42Speaker 3: he's 13?
- 23:42Speaker 2: Yeah, he's 13. But he's able to take him to
- 23:44Speaker 2: the league.
- 23:44Speaker 5: And I'll tell you what, I'm glad they're doing it
- 23:47Speaker 5: from a young age because it's hard for you boys
- 23:49Speaker 5: at senior level to be able to change your techniques.
- 23:51Speaker 5: But geez, they get sent off easy in the junior
- 23:54Speaker 5: stuff with head high and hips or shoulder charges. So,
- 23:57Speaker 5: Unless they're conditioned in the young box from a young age,
- 24:00Speaker 5: I think the IFL could do a better.
- 24:01Speaker 2: Job on that. Some of that tackling. Eight years old
- 24:04Speaker 2: now it is. Is it? Yeah.
- 24:06Speaker 5: And it's smart because I think some of the stuff
- 24:08Speaker 5: that gets to IFL level, it's... sort of almost allowed
- 24:13Speaker 5: or let go. When you get to senior level and
- 24:15Speaker 5: you've got to make your change, especially at AFL level,
- 24:17Speaker 5: it's bloody hard for.
- 24:18Speaker 2: The current player. What's that like?
- 24:19Speaker 7: Is that like the style of tackle, like the height
- 24:22Speaker 7: they're hitting them at?
- 24:23Speaker 2: It's a head high. I think both coaches, haven't they?
- 24:26Speaker 5: They've got the spectre of litigation hanging over their head,
- 24:28Speaker 5: you know, with the court cases. So it's hard for
- 24:32Speaker 5: the authorities, but it makes it so hard for the
- 24:34Speaker 5: current players, doesn't it?
- 24:35Speaker 2: When the rules are getting changed all the time.
- 24:37Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 24:38Speaker 2: And the game is getting faster every year. Yeah.
- 24:40Speaker 8: It's going to be faster, fitter, stronger.
- 24:42Speaker 2: That's right.
- 24:42Speaker 8: And then they change the rules on you.
- 24:44Speaker 2: And lower your hit zone. So the Trout did an
- 24:46Speaker 2: amazing job. Oh, he's getting that right.
- 24:48Speaker 8: He got it right.
- 24:50Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 24:50Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 24:52Speaker 4: Now, this will be a great game this round. This
- 24:54Speaker 4: is the Warriors taking on the Dolphins.
- 24:57Speaker 2: Yes.
- 24:58Speaker 3: Now, is it a second chance game for the Lugans?
- 25:00Speaker 8: Yeah, for both of them.
- 25:01Speaker 2: How good are the Dolphins, mate? So good.
- 25:03Speaker 8: So good.
- 25:04Speaker 5: One of our golf mates plays Redcliffe. You know Ronnie Jellick? Yes.
- 25:11Speaker 5: He's a big Redcliffe boy and all he does is
- 25:13Speaker 5: talk about the Dolphins.
- 25:14Speaker 2: They've all jumped on board this year. It's been a
- 25:17Speaker 2: great story.
- 25:18Speaker 7: I think it's great for the NRL that they've come in.
- 25:20Speaker 7: Three years. Three years now.
- 25:22Speaker 2: And final series. So I think it's awesome.
- 25:26Speaker 7: I'm Warriors all the way, but I think Dolphins, if
- 25:30Speaker 7: they lose this, they'll be hard to beat that next week.
- 25:34Speaker 8: Yeah, I reckon, yeah.
- 25:35Speaker 6: I'm going back to Bunnies on Friday night. I reckon
- 25:38Speaker 6: the Warriors should win this first game on the Saturday.
- 25:40Speaker 6: It's in New Zealand too and it's going to.
- 25:44Speaker 2: Are they playing at Go Media or are they at.
- 25:47Speaker 8: Auckland.
- 25:48Speaker 2: Auckland.
- 25:48Speaker 8: Yeah, yeah. Okay, that's good then. They could be... Because
- 25:51Speaker 8: I don't want them to go to Eden Park because
- 25:54Speaker 8: Go Media.
- 25:55Speaker 2: That's the second game. If they win, I thought.
- 25:57Speaker 8: The prelim.
- 25:57Speaker 7: I think there's... Isn't there a chat about not going
- 26:00Speaker 7: to Eden Park for one of them?
- 26:01Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't know.
- 26:02Speaker 8: Yeah, maybe the prelim. So if they win this, yeah.
- 26:06Speaker 5: We played a couple of games in New Zealand. We
- 26:08Speaker 5: played a game for premiership points.
- 26:09Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah. The cake tin in Wellington. Oh, yeah? Yeah, yeah.
- 26:14Speaker 2: It's a cracking ball. I love it. Yeah, yeah.
- 26:16Speaker 3: Is there any plan to expand? Obviously, we've got Tasmania coming.
- 26:19Speaker 2: Well, they tried China. Yeah. That wasn't a great decision. Saving. Yeah,
- 26:23Speaker 2: they did.
- 26:24Speaker 5: They got to China and realised they had no ovals.
- 26:29Speaker 2: What's the theory behind that? I don't know.
- 26:32Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 26:32Speaker 2: It must have been one of the club's sponsors was
- 26:34Speaker 2: a Chinese company.
- 26:36Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 26:38Speaker 2: Not a great success.
- 26:40Speaker 3: It's not exactly fake.
- 26:41Speaker 2: I don't know how to say it. I don't think
- 26:44Speaker 2: it'll work ever.
- 26:45Speaker 5: I think they had to send the army out and
- 26:49Speaker 5: arrest about 15,000 people and lock them.
- 26:51Speaker 2: Into the stadium so it actually looked all right on TV.
- 26:54Speaker 3: It's the joy of the communist country. Show them in
- 26:57Speaker 3: through a force of craft.
- 26:58Speaker 2: Now, Clay. You'd have people.
- 27:01Speaker 1: Aside, applaud, silence.
- 27:02Speaker 2: That wasn't a great season. I think India is their next.
- 27:05Speaker 2: They're going to try and go to India. They're going
- 27:07Speaker 2: to try and tap into that population.
- 27:11Speaker 5: Because obviously they've got the cricket ovals.
- 27:14Speaker 2: Which, you know, footy was... AFL was invented. It can't
- 27:32Speaker 2: be bad.
- 27:32Speaker 5: The origins of AFL come about because it was a
- 27:35Speaker 5: sport designed or an activity designed to keep the cricketers
- 27:39Speaker 5: fit during the winter.
- 27:40Speaker 8: That's right.
- 27:40Speaker 2: That's why it's played on cricket fields. Yeah. Back in
- 27:43Speaker 2: the 1850s. So there you go. Yeah. So who do
- 27:47Speaker 2: you like?
- 27:48Speaker 3: Finns, Warriors, who are you tipping?
- 27:50Speaker 2: I think the Warriors.
- 27:51Speaker 5: Their defense has been hard. They're hard to score against
- 27:54Speaker 5: over there. So hopefully the Finns can make a run though.
- 27:57Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 27:57Speaker 3: I'm going to go Finns in an upset. They weren't
- 28:00Speaker 3: convincing the Warriors.
- 28:01Speaker 8: It's not a bad thing.
- 28:03Speaker 6: They lose that game, they come back here to Suncorp
- 28:05Speaker 6: Stadium and they get another crack. And they've worked hard
- 28:08Speaker 6: enough to be where they are. But, yeah, I think
- 28:11Speaker 6: the Warriors at Go Media Stadium in Auckland there, which
- 28:14Speaker 6: is the old Mount Sparts stadium.
- 28:15Speaker 2: Oh, I love that place. It is my favourite away game.
- 28:18Speaker 2: You scored a few tries there, didn't you, mate? I
- 28:21Speaker 2: loved it, yeah. No, because the crowd was just on
- 28:23Speaker 2: top of you. That was a leading comment. We were
- 28:26Speaker 2: supposed to tell you, mate. Oh, sorry. What was the
- 28:28Speaker 2: most tries you scored there, mate? I remember actually, yeah,
- 28:31Speaker 2: 20 metres. Took a carry, busted through the middle, fended
- 28:35Speaker 2: off fullback, ran 80. Yeah, I remember that. Right on
- 28:38Speaker 2: the buzzer. Yeah, it was. No, no, it was at
- 28:40Speaker 2: the start. And then I just went, I'm done.
- 28:42Speaker 8: And then we lost.
- 28:44Speaker 2: No, we'd won that one.
- 28:46Speaker 4: We were talking about momentum before, and then we got this.
- 28:48Speaker 4: The second Saturday night game is two teams that have
- 28:50Speaker 4: none of it, which is the Sharks and the Cowboys.
- 28:53Speaker 8: I mean, they're both.
- 28:54Speaker 2: Yeah, this is my game. They have.
- 28:57Speaker 8: The worst one of them all.
- 28:58Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 28:59Speaker 6: Jeremiah Nanai trying to get through this week. He's got
- 29:02Speaker 6: a knee injury at the moment. Rubicota got off.
- 29:04Speaker 2: Yeah. What do you think about Rubicota getting off? Well,
- 29:08Speaker 2: I go by a rule book. I go by the
- 29:10Speaker 2: way the whole year's gone. It's a kickoff, for one.
- 29:14Speaker 3: It happened right at the first minute.
- 29:15Speaker 8: First tackle.
- 29:15Speaker 2: First tackle of the game. And he's just chinned him.
- 29:20Speaker 2: He's flush. He chinned him just flush as. How do
- 29:26Speaker 2: you get off that? There's intent. Yep. Like, you didn't
- 29:30Speaker 2: try and drop, and you've chinned him.
- 29:32Speaker 8: Good lawyer.
- 29:33Speaker 2: Great lawyer.
- 29:33Speaker 8: Good lawyers always win.
- 29:34Speaker 2: You've got to choose who you hit as well. I
- 29:36Speaker 2: think that comes into play. Yeah. Papa Lee's a good
- 29:39Speaker 2: one to hit. Yeah. I go by the rule all year.
- 29:43Speaker 2: I just feel like they haven't stuck to it. Finals, yes.
- 29:47Speaker 7: Cameron Smith missed the grand final because of it.
- 29:51Speaker 2: I love seeing him back and playing.
- 29:54Speaker 7: I think it's awesome because you want to see the
- 29:55Speaker 7: best teams with the best players but Just the way
- 29:58Speaker 7: the year has gone, I'm surprised.
- 30:00Speaker 2: What did you think about the wildcard and the AFL boys?
- 30:02Speaker 2: I loved it. Did you expand it? I didn't mind it.
- 30:05Speaker 2: I enjoyed it. Yeah.
- 30:06Speaker 3: So that was like, so the teams that were in
- 30:08Speaker 3: the eight, or the teams that had, was it in
- 30:11Speaker 3: the six?
- 30:12Speaker 2: Top six. Top six week off.
- 30:14Speaker 3: And then you had two wildcard games.
- 30:15Speaker 5: We had this almost a silly week off, you know,
- 30:17Speaker 5: to try and. freshen the teams up for finals. But,
- 30:21Speaker 5: you know, it was a dead weekend. And I would
- 30:23Speaker 5: certainly give NRL a free kick from a TV point
- 30:25Speaker 5: of view. But they decided to fill that up.
- 30:27Speaker 2: Yes, they kept doing it.
- 30:28Speaker 5: Yeah, and our fixtures all over the shop. Yeah, that's right.
- 30:31Speaker 5: Our fixtures all over the shop. So I think 7
- 30:35Speaker 5: played 10, 8 played 9 in that weekend off. And
- 30:40Speaker 5: maybe they got lucky that it was two big MCG
- 30:43Speaker 5: games because they were Melbourne clubs.
- 30:46Speaker 2: Yeah, it was. It was 90,000, 80,000. But it was great.
- 30:51Speaker 2: You know what?
- 30:52Speaker 5: The bottom rungs in the ladder, there's not really much
- 30:56Speaker 5: difference between the teams, is there? The difference between 7th
- 30:59Speaker 5: and 10th is marginal. So I thought it was a
- 31:02Speaker 5: great concept.
- 31:02Speaker 2: Yeah, it's exciting.
- 31:03Speaker 6: I think PVL, Peter Valandes, was talking about, again, he
- 31:09Speaker 6: throws a lot of different ideas in there, but having
- 31:13Speaker 6: almost like a plate final so that the other teams
- 31:16Speaker 6: that are not in just continue.
- 31:18Speaker 2: To play on. So there's games. But in saying that,
- 31:22Speaker 2: when I'm done, I'm done. No, no, and that's what
- 31:24Speaker 2: I think. I'm charging.
- 31:25Speaker 8: They're like, why?
- 31:27Speaker 2: We ain't winning. So we ain't playing again.
- 31:29Speaker 8: If there was a money incentive.
- 31:31Speaker 2: But then you've got to up everyone else's money.
- 31:34Speaker 8: Would you play? Would you have a crack?
- 31:36Speaker 2: Yeah. I don't know how much though.
- 31:38Speaker 8: How much do I get?
- 31:40Speaker 6: You get a free plane to wherever you want to
- 31:42Speaker 6: go for your end of season trip.
- 31:43Speaker 2: No, it's got to be worth it. Money. You know,
- 31:45Speaker 2: it's got to be 20 grand a player.
- 31:47Speaker 8: 20 grand a player.
- 31:49Speaker 2: Cash. Yep, cash.
- 31:50Speaker 7: Because they're making that much so you've got to do
- 31:53Speaker 7: a spare change.
- 31:54Speaker 2: The season's done. It's done. It's done.
- 31:56Speaker 8: I'm sorry.
- 31:56Speaker 2: I don't think anyone will watch it Why are we
- 31:59Speaker 2: watching this? They're not the winners.
- 32:01Speaker 5: There's been a little bit to talk about this mid-season tournament.
- 32:04Speaker 5: I think the NBA do it. But it's harder doing
- 32:07Speaker 5: football cards. They do it in the UK, in the
- 32:08Speaker 5: Super League. You guys have got State of Origin, which
- 32:11Speaker 5: is huge. So the AFL almost needs something to combat that.
- 32:16Speaker 5: You're never going to combat State of Origin, but certainly
- 32:19Speaker 5: some extra content around that.
- 32:20Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 32:21Speaker 3: It's a funny state of origin. Like, it used to
- 32:23Speaker 3: be big AFL. It's weird that it hasn't got the
- 32:26Speaker 3: same traction.
- 32:27Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 32:27Speaker 3: Because you think there's still that passion.
- 32:28Speaker 5: Well, it was big back in the day when it
- 32:30Speaker 5: was more, and then we sort of become a real
- 32:31Speaker 5: national club in 87, and it's almost like there's too
- 32:34Speaker 5: many states involved.
- 32:35Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 32:37Speaker 3: Because Perth get pissed off like that.
- 32:38Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 32:39Speaker 5: So who do you play it against? The great thing
- 32:41Speaker 5: that works well is you've got the two states, the
- 32:45Speaker 5: two big states.
- 32:46Speaker 2: Yeah. They hate each other. Yeah. They're genuine rivalry. Like,
- 32:50Speaker 2: I think the... Yeah.
- 32:52Speaker 5: Not the reason it came about. I know there used
- 32:53Speaker 5: to be state v. state, but I think it was
- 32:56Speaker 5: in the rugby league, it was the league that you
- 32:58Speaker 5: played in. So you had Queenslanders playing in the New
- 33:00Speaker 5: South Wales league that would represent.
- 33:01Speaker 2: New South Wales.
- 33:02Speaker 8: New South Wales, yeah, yeah.
- 33:03Speaker 2: Until Origin came along. Yeah, it was residents. Yeah, residents,
- 33:06Speaker 2: that's right.
- 33:07Speaker 8: Queensland residents, New South Wales residents.
- 33:09Speaker 5: And it wasn't until a few of the VFL administrators
- 33:12Speaker 5: back in those days took some of the ARL administrators
- 33:16Speaker 5: to a game of Origin, and they said, look at
- 33:18Speaker 5: our idea.
- 33:19Speaker 2: And our concept, and they did it in rugby league,
- 33:22Speaker 2: and it's just taken off.
- 33:24Speaker 5: Which is so good. It's so good to watch, and
- 33:26Speaker 5: it captures the imagination of not only the two states,
- 33:29Speaker 5: but the whole of Australia, really, doesn't it? And you think, yeah,
- 33:32Speaker 5: there's sporting things. I spoke about opening the bowling for
- 33:36Speaker 5: Australia and wanting to do that, but origin is one.
- 33:40Speaker 5: Just a sports lover. You go, geez, I would have
- 33:42Speaker 5: loved to have played an origin game. You boys are
- 33:45Speaker 5: bloody lucky to have been able to experience that, I reckon.
- 33:49Speaker 3: All right, so what do we think, though?
- 33:51Speaker 2: Sharks. I don't know. Tricky Trindle's back for the Sharks. Oh, well,
- 33:53Speaker 2: I'm not a Shark. Yeah, I think that's a big deal.
- 33:56Speaker 2: He's in. I'm in with him.
- 33:58Speaker 6: Yeah, I just think the Cowboys, they like too many points.
- 34:02Speaker 6: They're the worst defensive team in the top eight. And
- 34:06Speaker 6: the Sharks, when they get on a roll.
- 34:09Speaker 8: They'll just score tries.
- 34:10Speaker 7: And they've been awful the last few weeks without him.
- 34:12Speaker 7: And I think they'll come out pretty good. Pretty hungry
- 34:18Speaker 7: to win, but if they do get a roll on that, they.
- 34:20Speaker 2: Can run away with this game pretty quickly.
- 34:22Speaker 8: Yeah, pretty quickly, yeah.
- 34:24Speaker 2: So, yeah, I'm going Sharks. Sharks as well, yeah. I'll
- 34:27Speaker 2: just jump in with you boys.
- 34:29Speaker 4: Actually, speaking of jumping in, Brian, if you were going
- 34:32Speaker 4: to play league, like what position?
- 34:35Speaker 3: Where are we going to put you?
- 34:36Speaker 2: I've lost the shoulders.
- 34:37Speaker 8: I reckon back row.
- 34:38Speaker 2: I'm going back row. You're a prime back row.
- 34:41Speaker 5: I used to love Gordie when I, you know, early
- 34:43Speaker 5: days and I think Twera and Nicky was.
- 34:45Speaker 2: Was he a back row or a second row? No,
- 34:47Speaker 2: he played back row and a bit of lock, yeah.
- 34:49Speaker 8: Yeah, with the beautiful mullet.
- 34:53Speaker 2: He had the flat top mullet. Yeah, so good.
- 34:57Speaker 8: I think he's still got the haircut. Same haircut, I think.
- 35:00Speaker 5: You've got to be able to play to go with
- 35:01Speaker 5: a flat top mullet.
- 35:02Speaker 2: I know, 100%. It was like.
- 35:05Speaker 3: An Apache Indian sort of look.
- 35:08Speaker 6: It was.
- 35:08Speaker 3: It was like he was going to war.
- 35:10Speaker 2: He had the look.
- 35:11Speaker 5: I'm not sure that's going to work on a white
- 35:12Speaker 5: boy from the country.
- 35:14Speaker 2: Probably not. You've got a good mullet, actually. You've got
- 35:18Speaker 2: beautiful curly hair.
- 35:19Speaker 8: You'd be like Dillon Watanizale.
- 35:21Speaker 2: You know what I've always wanted?
- 35:22Speaker 7: So my old man, their photo, their wedding photo has
- 35:26Speaker 7: his mullet.
- 35:27Speaker 2: Grow it, mate. And I went, I'm so off it
- 35:30Speaker 2: that I can't have that hair. Because I've got to
- 35:32Speaker 2: throw it, mate. It goes up.
- 35:34Speaker 8: At the back, it loosens up.
- 35:35Speaker 2: It doesn't, man. It just goes out and fluffy. It's
- 35:38Speaker 2: so crap. Well, just give it a try, mate. It's
- 35:39Speaker 2: like your hair. It's just horrible. I don't have any hair, mate.
- 35:42Speaker 2: I know. You got rid of it. You finally realised it. Yeah, exactly.
- 35:45Speaker 2: Put it on his chin, mate. You'd do a good mullet,
- 35:47Speaker 2: wouldn't you? I used to have the mullet. Come on, man.
- 35:50Speaker 2: Those kids are.
- 35:51Speaker 5: Steve Kernaghan was a big, Styx Kernaghan was a legendary figure.
- 35:54Speaker 5: He's Carlton captain, premiership captain, and he had the greatest
- 35:57Speaker 5: mullet ever. So as a kid growing up, he was
- 35:59Speaker 5: the position.
- 36:00Speaker 2: I wanted to play. So I just wanted to be
- 36:02Speaker 2: like Styx with a mullet. I pictured you with the
- 36:04Speaker 2: tape around the head too. Well, actually I've got a photo. Oh,
- 36:08Speaker 2: I'll send you.
- 36:09Speaker 5: Because Mum sent me a free haircut once and I
- 36:12Speaker 5: think she used to just put the bowl over my head.
- 36:15Speaker 3: Well, didn't they used to say, because you can see
- 36:17Speaker 3: it now, they used to say that your hair looked
- 36:19Speaker 3: exactly like a Lego figurine.
- 36:20Speaker 8: Oh, Lego hair.
- 36:22Speaker 3: That's Lego hair. Just bang it to the exact proportion.
- 36:25Speaker 3: But that Lego hair has served you well now because
- 36:27Speaker 3: you've got the head wound and.
- 36:28Speaker 2: It's just completely up. It's gone. It's coming up.
- 36:30Speaker 3: You've just whacked the helmet straight on.
- 36:32Speaker 2: Lego cut. I'm going to put it out there. Brownie
- 36:34Speaker 2: would have been a back rower. Back rower, yeah.
- 36:36Speaker 8: Like Jacob Preston.
- 36:38Speaker 2: Oh, yeah. Or Sutton 5'8. Oh.
- 36:42Speaker 8: Where is it?
- 36:43Speaker 2: Helham Lukey. Oh, yeah. It's like a ball running. Or
- 36:49Speaker 2: Matt Jewett. Just legs everywhere. The old egg beaters. It
- 36:56Speaker 2: used to be dangerous running next to it.
- 36:58Speaker 3: Any second rowers are going to get bullied on them.
- 37:01Speaker 2: Yes. Love it. Remember the old undercut? Yes. We need
- 37:07Speaker 2: to bring the undercut back. No kids do that. That's
- 37:10Speaker 2: Joe Dirt. What was mum thinking?
- 37:12Speaker 9: What was she thinking?
- 37:17Speaker 2: What a bowl. What sort of bowl is that? Amazing.
- 37:20Speaker 2: It's a long front. I'm surprised he paid. I hope
- 37:23Speaker 2: mum didn't pay for that.
- 37:24Speaker 4: All right, and then the last Sunday game, we've got
- 37:30Speaker 4: the Panthers taking on the Roosters.
- 37:32Speaker 2: I'm excited for this game.
- 37:34Speaker 3: Yeah, it should be a cracker.
- 37:35Speaker 7: I really don't know. This is a game for me
- 37:38Speaker 7: that I've.
- 37:39Speaker 8: Well, the defense.
- 37:40Speaker 2: Someone else can play that. Well, they played.
- 37:43Speaker 8: Each other just recently. DCE scored two tries in the game.
- 37:46Speaker 2: And it was the game of the year.
- 37:47Speaker 6: It was the game of the year. It was semifinal
- 37:49Speaker 6: football early in the season. And the defensive effort from
- 37:53Speaker 6: the Roosters was absolutely outstanding. They'll need to do that again.
- 37:58Speaker 6: Panthers did have a couple of players out. I don't
- 37:59Speaker 6: think Isaiah was playing in that game. But pretty much, yeah.
- 38:04Speaker 4: Everyone's back for, except for Walker, but everyone's back for
- 38:07Speaker 4: the Roosters and Yo's back for the Panthers.
- 38:09Speaker 7: And I want the refs this weekend to do, like,
- 38:13Speaker 7: ref the game the exact same way that game was.
- 38:15Speaker 2: Let it go.
- 38:16Speaker 7: We're in finals footy. Let the game go. Let the
- 38:19Speaker 7: teams decide. Like, if I hear the whistle... more than
- 38:24Speaker 7: frigging 20 times in the first half, I'm just going
- 38:26Speaker 7: to be off it.
- 38:27Speaker 8: This is a weird one too.
- 38:28Speaker 6: So, Isaiah is back, but what he's done is he's
- 38:31Speaker 6: ruptured his pec.
- 38:32Speaker 2: How long has he had off? He took a couple
- 38:34Speaker 2: of weeks off, yeah? Not even long enough. So, it
- 38:36Speaker 2: requires surgery.
- 38:37Speaker 6: So, at the end of the day, he is going
- 38:39Speaker 6: to be playing with … And everyone's going to be
- 38:42Speaker 6: hitting it.
- 38:43Speaker 5: 30%.
- 38:43Speaker 6: So, his big game is going deep into the line, passing,
- 38:47Speaker 6: linking with Nathan Cleary at half, and he tackles everything
- 38:51Speaker 6: that moves. So he's going to be very limited. He's
- 38:53Speaker 6: going to have to be tough. Oh, he'll have that
- 38:56Speaker 6: strap on. He'll have the leg to shoulder.
- 38:57Speaker 2: So they go from here. The seatbelt. You ever see
- 38:59Speaker 2: the seatbelt? The seatbelt?
- 39:00Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 39:01Speaker 6: So it straps to your thigh. And you can't move
- 39:03Speaker 6: past it. The opposite leg. And then it goes up here,
- 39:06Speaker 6: and then it straps to your arm. So then you can't.
- 39:08Speaker 2: You tighten it to whatever you want the movement to be.
- 39:10Speaker 8: So he won't be able to move his arm too much.
- 39:11Speaker 2: So JT, I think, had two. He had both. He
- 39:13Speaker 2: had both. Seatbelts. I don't know how he kicked goals.
- 39:16Speaker 2: He could lift them here. You can tighten them, I believe, to, say, here. Yeah.
- 39:20Speaker 2: That's what he'll be playing with.
- 39:21Speaker 5: So does that become a problem? Do they have to
- 39:22Speaker 5: change the defensive setup or where he stands.
- 39:24Speaker 2: In the line? Yeah, maybe, because then he'll have to tackle.
- 39:27Speaker 8: I don't know.
- 39:28Speaker 2: More left shoulder than right. shoulder.
- 39:31Speaker 7: But I see them as a team that we're not changing,
- 39:33Speaker 7: so you either play or you can't play. But if
- 39:36Speaker 7: I'm Roosters, which they'll be doing this, they'll be saying,
- 39:39Speaker 7: whenever we get him on the ground, I want you all.
- 39:42Speaker 2: To grab it. And just squeeze it as hard.
- 39:45Speaker 5: As you can. I'm sending Spencer Lin you into it.
- 39:48Speaker 5: I'm sending Nafahu White into it. Yeah, you step on him.
- 39:51Speaker 5: Put a step on him.
- 39:52Speaker 2: Make him reach. You need to make him reach. She's
- 39:54Speaker 2: going to make it hurt. Look, I'm sorry to say it,
- 39:57Speaker 2: but that's just the way the game goes. Can you isolate,
- 40:00Speaker 2: just grab it and squeeze it as hard as you can?
- 40:05Speaker 2: What are you talking about? It depends who you are.
- 40:13Speaker 6: So who was the biggest person you've seen in the shower?
- 40:15Speaker 2: Look at that. There you go. But that was another
- 40:21Speaker 2: leading question. That was like, he said, just.
- 40:28Speaker 8: Grab it and squeeze it.
- 40:29Speaker 4: He said, um, that's, uh, speaking of Spencer Lenu, what about, um,
- 40:34Speaker 4: like the fire up between him and, uh, color.
- 40:37Speaker 7: Uh, yeah, I think that's where he was back in
- 40:40Speaker 7: before it did the second.
- 40:42Speaker 8: That's the shit I love.
- 40:43Speaker 2: I love it. Yeah. The one-on-one battles.
- 40:46Speaker 6: And then again, Very, very smart from Robbo just to
- 40:51Speaker 6: take him off the field and not put him back
- 40:53Speaker 6: out there because, again, you want him to play semi-final four.
- 40:56Speaker 8: He was losing his head.
- 40:57Speaker 6: He had the ball in his hand and he kept
- 41:00Speaker 6: on going, kept on going.
- 41:01Speaker 2: He shaped up.
- 41:02Speaker 6: But that's literally, again, sometimes you've just got to try
- 41:07Speaker 6: to out-bully the bully. And Keon did such a great job.
- 41:11Speaker 6: He kept his cool.
- 41:11Speaker 2: Can you say his last name?
- 41:13Speaker 8: Kala Matangi.
- 41:13Speaker 2: Yeah, I love how your game is the names. Yeah.
- 41:17Speaker 2: It's insane, isn't it?
- 41:19Speaker 5: I'll go up with Smithy and Smithy says, you know,
- 41:21Speaker 5: Channel 9 will have a... someone to come in and
- 41:23Speaker 5: help them with the pronunciation. There's a wording. Someone to
- 41:28Speaker 5: explain the names. We don't have any of that now.
- 41:32Speaker 5: The most difficult way we've ever had is Metropolis.
- 41:34Speaker 2: It's good to have. It's good to have. It's good
- 41:40Speaker 2: to have. It's good to have.
- 41:42Speaker 3: It's good to have.
- 41:43Speaker 4: You've got some of the Greek names for Melbourne about
- 41:45Speaker 4: as hard as it gets.
- 41:46Speaker 2: That's right.
- 41:46Speaker 4: What about because i remember this is a maybe this
- 41:49Speaker 4: is an old wives tale brownie but uh that you
- 41:51Speaker 4: as far as getting fired up and you needing to
- 41:54Speaker 4: keep your uh emotions sort of in check that is
- 41:57Speaker 4: it true that lee matthews banned you from listening to
- 42:00Speaker 4: ac pre-game games yeah we threw a little.
- 42:07Speaker 5: Run when i was uh younger and I keep getting suspended.
- 42:11Speaker 5: But I'd always get eight fights in.
- 42:12Speaker 2: I loved it. And then Lee comes up to me
- 42:14Speaker 2: one day, he goes, yeah, certain players, you know, they
- 42:17Speaker 2: get white line fever. You're one of those.
- 42:20Speaker 5: You don't need to be amped up any extra until
- 42:22Speaker 5: you've crossed the white line.
- 42:23Speaker 2: That'll be enough. You guys, what are you listening to?
- 42:26Speaker 2: I said, ACDS. You guys, I reckon stop listening to ACDS.
- 42:30Speaker 2: Listen to Savage Garden instead. I'll be your dream, I'll
- 42:34Speaker 2: be your wish, I'll be your friend. I didn't get
- 42:37Speaker 2: suspended for the next 10 years. So did that really
- 42:40Speaker 2: fix it? That was your last suspension? Well, I didn't
- 42:42Speaker 2: get suspended for a long time. Wow. He was a
- 42:45Speaker 2: great coach. Smart, very smart. But he was smart. He
- 42:48Speaker 2: was smart.
- 42:50Speaker 6: I used to love the old Three Codes lunches back
- 42:51Speaker 6: in the day that we used to do. They were
- 42:53Speaker 6: really good and then And the three coaches used to
- 42:55Speaker 6: sit up there on stage.
- 42:56Speaker 5: Well, we had my first, uh, week at the Brisbane Lions.
- 43:00Speaker 5: Lee Matthews got all us young bucks in their first
- 43:03Speaker 5: years and got Wayne Bennett to speak to us.
- 43:05Speaker 2: I still remember.
- 43:06Speaker 5: It feels like yesterday. One of the messages was, um,
- 43:10Speaker 5: Lee said to us, you know, it's later than you
- 43:11Speaker 5: think boys. So, you know, I want you to take
- 43:13Speaker 5: heed of this advice that Wayne's about to give you.
- 43:15Speaker 5: And it was 25 years ago. I feel like it
- 43:18Speaker 5: was yesterday. I still see that as an 18 year
- 43:20Speaker 5: old looking up at the great Wayne Bennett.
- 43:21Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 43:22Speaker 5: And, uh, You know, so you're fortunate enough to be
- 43:25Speaker 5: coached by him and one of the all-time greats. And
- 43:27Speaker 5: obviously I was with Lee Matthews, one of the all-time greats.
- 43:30Speaker 5: So very lucky, very lucky. You take it for granted
- 43:33Speaker 5: at the time, don't you? But you look back, you know, geez,
- 43:36Speaker 5: we're lucky, not only in careers, but life going forward.
- 43:39Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 43:39Speaker 2: Yeah, I was lucky enough to see Wayne's all of it.
- 43:41Speaker 2: Just right there. A lot of the time, actually.
- 43:45Speaker 8: You were locking next to him, mate.
- 43:47Speaker 2: I was a couple of ways. It was too many lockers.
- 43:50Speaker 8: He used to be a leg up drive himself too.
- 43:53Speaker 2: No, I'm not shitting.
- 43:55Speaker 7: Because you do your extras and he'd be done. He'd
- 43:59Speaker 7: come in and if he's done his gym session, he'd
- 44:01Speaker 7: just go for a shower.
- 44:03Speaker 2: I remember coming after all the.
- 44:04Speaker 7: Extras the first time I'd seen the whole thing. And
- 44:07Speaker 7: I remember, you know, head down, I was just got,
- 44:09Speaker 7: you know, I did some extras. I was, you know,
- 44:10Speaker 7: just take my boots off and he starts talking.
- 44:12Speaker 2: I'm looking up. Oh, yeah.
- 44:15Speaker 8: Eyes here, eyes here, eyes here.
- 44:16Speaker 2: He has the leg up, nothing on it. He's just drawing.
- 44:18Speaker 2: What did you say about Sammy Ford? He's a big introvert.
- 44:23Speaker 2: I mean, did you ever see Lee Nude?
- 44:28Speaker 5: I can't say I'm privileged to have done that.
- 44:32Speaker 2: I think he might have gone separately. That seems like
- 44:36Speaker 2: a normal thing to do for a coach.
- 44:38Speaker 5: It would have been tough to share with the man
- 44:40Speaker 5: that was voted the greatest player of all time.
- 44:42Speaker 2: It would have been a little bit intimidating.
- 44:45Speaker 7: See, Wayne wasn't the greatest winger of all time, so
- 44:47Speaker 7: it's probably easier.
- 44:48Speaker 2: It's very average.
- 44:50Speaker 3: Who are we tipping for Roosters Penrith? I'm going to
- 44:53Speaker 3: go with Roosters Penrith.
- 44:57Speaker 2: Oh, geez. Okay. Yeah. They want redemption, the Roosters. No,
- 45:01Speaker 2: not the Panthers.
- 45:02Speaker 8: I'm going to go Panthers. Yeah, I'm going to go Panthers.
- 45:04Speaker 7: I just look at the year and I think the Roosters,
- 45:06Speaker 7: all year they've been one of my favourite team with
- 45:10Speaker 7: the Warriors.
- 45:10Speaker 2: All year to watch. Yeah. So, yeah, that's it.
- 45:13Speaker 8: It's got to be a good game.
- 45:14Speaker 2: It's got to be a good game of footy. Let
- 45:16Speaker 2: it go.
- 45:17Speaker 8: I'm going with that.
- 45:17Speaker 2: Jared, we're at Hargrove. He's a big bastard. He's a
- 45:22Speaker 2: big boy. I would have hated to try and stop him.
- 45:25Speaker 2: I loved it.
- 45:26Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
- 45:26Speaker 2: I loved it. He's a great player, wasn't he? Angry.
- 45:29Speaker 2: You would have had to go. We went ahead there.
- 45:31Speaker 2: He was taller than me.
- 45:33Speaker 8: Yeah, I used to stand tall, drop late, get underneath him.
- 45:36Speaker 2: Got him.
- 45:37Speaker 7: I remember that battle at Suncorp. One of my favourite
- 45:40Speaker 7: games of my life. It was just, that got me
- 45:42Speaker 7: amped up.
- 45:43Speaker 2: The whole game, just Semmy and Jarrett going at it.
- 45:45Speaker 2: I remember the game, Suncorp. Oh, geez, it was awesome.
- 45:49Speaker 2: And I think we just got them in the end.
- 45:51Speaker 8: Semi-final, yeah. Yeah, and it was one of.
- 45:53Speaker 2: My favourite games of my whole career. I loved it.
- 45:55Speaker 2: Except for when I used to have to run it
- 45:57Speaker 2: off the kick-off if Semmy wasn't up.
- 45:58Speaker 6: Oh, yeah.
- 45:59Speaker 2: And I'm like, oh, no. Where is he? Where do
- 46:01Speaker 2: I go? Where is he? Well, we've got back rollers
- 46:04Speaker 2: that can take your head off. I was like, just
- 46:07Speaker 2: go just hard, son. Because he would come and give
- 46:09Speaker 2: me the ball.
- 46:10Speaker 8: Boyd Corner used to just cut you in half.
- 46:11Speaker 7: Yeah, Boyd Corner and then, I don't know, the props
- 46:13Speaker 7: they had, like, they all wanted.
- 46:14Speaker 2: To kill me.
- 46:15Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 46:16Speaker 2: Because of you.
- 46:17Speaker 8: Sorry, mate.
- 46:18Speaker 2: I made him angry. Yeah. Well, you never started on
- 46:21Speaker 2: the bench, did you? It was any time he came in.
- 46:28Speaker 2: But then no one else wanted to run off the kickoff.
- 46:29Speaker 2: So it was like, Corey, you go.
- 46:32Speaker 3: All right, let's make a multi. Let's do an AFL multi.
- 46:36Speaker 2: We won't worry about.
- 46:36Speaker 3: Possessions because that gets too confusing. We'll just go player
- 46:40Speaker 3: to score two goals or more.
- 46:42Speaker 2: Okay, AFL. Logan then.
- 46:44Speaker 3: I'm going Logan for the Lions.
- 46:45Speaker 2: I'm going three. Yeah, I like that. I'm going three.
- 46:50Speaker 2: He was pretty unreal. Yeah, I'm going three. I think
- 46:53Speaker 2: he's unreal. I love watching him.
- 46:54Speaker 4: All right, so yeah, it's got to be at least
- 46:56Speaker 4: two goals for AFL. It can be any of the
- 47:00Speaker 4: four teams playing across the weekend. So did you get
- 47:02Speaker 4: one to read, Corey?
- 47:03Speaker 2: I've gone Logan Morris.
- 47:05Speaker 3: Logan Morris for two plus.
- 47:06Speaker 2: Three plus. Three plus. Okay, Brownie? I'm going to go
- 47:10Speaker 2: Jeremy Cameron.
- 47:11Speaker 5: He's kicked a shot of 800 goals in his career.
- 47:14Speaker 5: Hasn't kicked a goal since... June, though, which was against
- 47:20Speaker 5: Fremantle ironically last time.
- 47:21Speaker 2: So he's ready to go.
- 47:22Speaker 5: And he's copped out even punishment this week in the media.
- 47:24Speaker 2: So three plus. Three plus. Oh, I like it.
- 47:28Speaker 3: I'm sticking with Geelong, too. I'm going to go Shannon
- 47:30Speaker 3: Neal for two plus.
- 47:31Speaker 2: I'm going to go a little conservative. So it might
- 47:34Speaker 2: be an upset, is it?
- 47:35Speaker 8: I think the cats might bloody towel up.
- 47:39Speaker 2: We're going three in that game.
- 47:41Speaker 5: The line's ten. You're going to give them a go
- 47:44Speaker 5: over ten, you think? Win by more than ten?
- 47:48Speaker 2: That's the line, is it? Yeah, that's the line. Line
- 47:50Speaker 2: 10 plus. What are you doing?
- 47:51Speaker 6: I reckon I'm going to go Patrick Dangerfield at least. No,
- 47:56Speaker 6: I'm going to go two.
- 47:57Speaker 2: Two points. Well, we have gone. We have gone. The
- 48:00Speaker 2: Cats better win here. The Cats better win by at
- 48:03Speaker 2: least 30. That's right.
- 48:05Speaker 3: Sorry to the Freo fans.
- 48:07Speaker 2: Sorry, Bruce. Sorry, Bruce. Sorry, Bruce.
- 48:11Speaker 5: He's out trying to sell his grand final tickets.
- 48:14Speaker 2: At least his flights. That pays 36 bucks.
- 48:20Speaker 1: Wow.
- 48:21Speaker 3: That's a good multi right there.
- 48:22Speaker 2: That's a great multi.
- 48:23Speaker 5: Fremantle's defense is very vulnerable at the moment.
- 48:25Speaker 2: It is? It is.
- 48:26Speaker 7: If they really step up, then we may not get anything.
- 48:29Speaker 2: That's right. In what small team history? Paddy Dangerfield. Is
- 48:33Speaker 2: this his last season as well? No, he just resigned.
- 48:35Speaker 2: Is he 50 yet or what? No, he's 49.
- 48:36Speaker 8: He's the only player to kick.
- 48:38Speaker 2: He's the only player over 35 years old to kick.
- 48:45Speaker 2: five goals or more in a final in the history
- 48:48Speaker 2: of the game the other day. Because not many people
- 48:50Speaker 2: play longer than that. There's not many to go off. No, exactly.
- 48:56Speaker 3: And we'll build a NRL multi, so this is just
- 49:00Speaker 3: any time try scorer, one.
- 49:01Speaker 2: Player, any game. NRL?
- 49:04Speaker 8: Milky for a triple.
- 49:05Speaker 2: No.
- 49:05Speaker 7: Honestly, I reckon there'll be four tries in that game.
- 49:11Speaker 2: Yeah, I think it'll be it.
- 49:13Speaker 8: That'll be a defensive.
- 49:14Speaker 2: Game, that one, for sure. Stay away from that game.
- 49:16Speaker 2: Kip will probably pick something.
- 49:17Speaker 3: No, I'm getting on Kobo for the Finns, I reckon.
- 49:20Speaker 2: Hey-ya! Hey-ya! Right-o.
- 49:22Speaker 3: That one's going great.
- 49:22Speaker 2: You had a week off. You got one?
- 49:24Speaker 8: Should be fresh, ready to go.
- 49:25Speaker 2: I'll go to the trail. Yeah.
- 49:26Speaker 3: I like that.
- 49:28Speaker 2: Just down there. About a 60 metre run.
- 49:31Speaker 5: 60?
- 49:31Speaker 2: You reckon he's got 60 in him? A couple of
- 49:34Speaker 2: fed dogs. A couple of runs out of juice. He's
- 49:37Speaker 2: getting old, the big fella. That's a good one. A
- 49:41Speaker 2: couple of don't argues.
- 49:42Speaker 3: There you go, Sammy.
- 49:45Speaker 2: I'm going sharp. I'm going Fletcher Sharp. Fletcher Sharp for
- 49:50Speaker 2: the nights. For the nights, yeah. Yeah, Fletcher's a good boy.
- 49:55Speaker 7: Although I feel like we're staying away from the game
- 49:57Speaker 7: that I think is going to have like 70 points
- 49:59Speaker 7: in it.
- 50:00Speaker 2: A lot of sharks and cowboys.
- 50:02Speaker 8: Yeah, I'm going to go.
- 50:02Speaker 2: A lot of deep thinking goes into these multis, boys.
- 50:07Speaker 2: We haven't won.
- 50:08Speaker 7: We've won by the roll, but we've put a lot
- 50:11Speaker 7: of thought into it.
- 50:12Speaker 2: Yeah, Braden Trindle I'm going. Oh, yeah?
- 50:14Speaker 8: Yeah, for the sharks.
- 50:16Speaker 2: I like that. Yeah. Yeah, nice. Okay.
- 50:19Speaker 4: Okay, we talked about the AFL Grand Final. Brownie, you
- 50:22Speaker 4: reckon it's going to be Brisbane?
- 50:24Speaker 2: It's a replay.
- 50:25Speaker 3: Hopefully, yeah. Who do we like for NRL Grand Final?
- 50:29Speaker 2: Who's going to be there? I'm sticking with Roosters Warriors.
- 50:31Speaker 3: Roosters Warriors. Could it be the game we'll see this weekend?
- 50:37Speaker 3: Can it be Warriors-Fins? Can that work out or no?
- 50:40Speaker 2: It can. It can? Yeah.
- 50:41Speaker 3: Yeah, that's me.
- 50:42Speaker 8: Yeah, nice.
- 50:43Speaker 7: So the top four teams, the way they are now,
- 50:46Speaker 7: the Pools, the two winners out of that, that can
- 50:50Speaker 7: then be the final.
- 50:51Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 50:51Speaker 2: But when they lose, they swap.
- 50:52Speaker 8: Yeah, swap sides.
- 50:53Speaker 2: Yeah, they can replay. Yeah, yeah.
- 50:56Speaker 5: It happened last year in the AFL. Geelong belted Brisbane
- 51:00Speaker 5: and then Brisbane belted the grand final.
- 51:02Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 51:04Speaker 6: Actually, the Lions go better when they have to play
- 51:06Speaker 6: every semi-final to then win a grand final, don't they?
- 51:10Speaker 2: Remember the first year they lost? They lost at home. Yeah. Well, no, yeah.
- 51:14Speaker 2: Or they lost at home. They won from outside the
- 51:17Speaker 2: top four. And they won, yeah.
- 51:18Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 51:20Speaker 6: NRL Grand Final, I'm going to go with the Panthers Warriors.
- 51:26Speaker 2: Yeah. Same here. I'm done, Panthers Warriors.
- 51:29Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 51:30Speaker 2: Best two teams. Yeah, yeah. Yep. Oh, did I get two?
- 51:34Speaker 3: Final scores for our tipping.
- 51:37Speaker 2: No, I did.
- 51:37Speaker 3: I got a seven out of eight last weekend.
- 51:39Speaker 8: I got a six from mate.
- 51:41Speaker 2: Corey got a two.
- 51:42Speaker 3: The person who's never played a game of NRL got 114. Sam,
- 51:46Speaker 3: you got a, that's me. Sammy, you got 108.
- 51:48Speaker 8: Yeah, that's how much I weigh.
- 51:50Speaker 2: And Corey, 104. That's how much I weigh. Yeah. Whoa,
- 51:54Speaker 2: and that's how much kip weighs. Yeah!
- 51:58Speaker 3: It's a glandular.
- 51:58Speaker 2: Yeah. It's got a bad heart. It's got a bad heart, man.
- 52:02Speaker 2: It's got a bad heart. Jeez, you got deep, man.
- 52:05Speaker 5: Anyway.
- 52:05Speaker 3: Well, thank you so much, Brownie.
- 52:06Speaker 8: Thanks for coming, mate.
- 52:07Speaker 2: Great to see you healthy. Pleasure to be on, boys. Yeah.
- 52:10Speaker 2: Family too. That's right. All the fans.
- 52:13Speaker 5: I need to check the family trail. It might be
- 52:16Speaker 5: a bit sketchy. That's okay. Everyone calls you family.
- 52:19Speaker 2: Everyone's related now. Lucky it's your dad's side and your
- 52:22Speaker 2: mum's side because that's the crazy side of your mum's side.
- 52:24Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 52:24Speaker 5: A few crooks on that side.
- 52:28Speaker 2: Crazy. I'm not going there now.
- 52:30Speaker 3: He's not even laughing about it, which makes me think
- 52:32Speaker 3: it's a little bit weird.
- 52:33Speaker 2: Yeah. It's not going there. Okay, fair enough.
