- 0:00Happy Monday morning everybody and I am finally back back home
- 0:07in the good old United States of America.
- 0:10I was going 16 days and my wife Kim, when she picked me up at
- 0:15the airport, we gave each other a big old hug and she looked at
- 0:18me and Kim said don't you be gone that long ever again.
- 0:22That was too long. I agree with her, 16 days was
- 0:27was a long time for a nice little vacation.
- 0:31All right, everybody, remember this is the big weekend at I-55
- 0:36Federated Auto Parts Raceway Park.
- 0:39The World of Outlaws, the Wings Sprint cars are going to be 15
- 0:44minutes from my house this Friday and Saturday, April 10th
- 0:48and 11th, the World of Outlaw Sprint cars.
- 0:51Go to worldofoutlaw.com and get your tickets.
- 0:54Boy, they pack them in down there.
- 0:55That's a hell of a show. OK?
- 1:00I want to thank my dear friend John Skatoni.
- 1:04John booked all the tickets, made it easy on me, and here we
- 1:09go again, right this Friday. John's going to pick me up in
- 1:13his SR22, his airplane, and we're flying down to Sarasota,
- 1:19can drive on over to Bradenton, to Cletus Mcfarlane's Freedom
- 1:23Factory 500. I think there's 21 of us drivers
- 1:28running a Crown Victoria, going to have the time of our life.
- 1:33Then we're going to spend the night Friday night down there at
- 1:36Cletus Mcfarlane's racetrack. And then we're going to wake up
- 1:39Saturday and we're going to fly on up to Bristol, TN for the big
- 1:42NASCAR weekend. It's a big weekend, big races
- 1:46everywhere and then we will do Trackside Live on Sunday
- 1:51morning, probably around 12. We usually get about 5000 people
- 1:56out there. They love it.
- 1:57Chase Elliott, we're going to have Chase Elliott on the big
- 1:59stage and a lot more. That was a nice little
- 2:04monologue. One thing my wife asked me on
- 2:11the way home last night, when she picked me up at the airport,
- 2:15she said, how fast did you go to Nurburgring?
- 2:20I looked at her. She goes, everybody's asking you
- 2:23that and I haven't, you haven't answered it yet.
- 2:25I said I yes, we did 147 mph on the front straightaway.
- 2:33I didn't think much of it, but I spent the rest of the time
- 2:37coming home telling her all about it.
- 2:38Hell, I had cottonmouth. I had to get something to drink
- 2:41when I got home because I told Kim so much about my trip.
- 2:45Then we walked in the house here and Dee, my mother-in-law, Kim's
- 2:50mom, first thing she said was how fast did you go around?
- 2:56I said, what is the deal with everybody?
- 2:58Want to know how fast? I went around Nurburgering and I
- 3:03said to myself, that's going to be coffee with Kenny.
- 3:08So the reason choosing this subject is because it is really
- 3:12different. It is unbelievable.
- 3:14And it's very hard to tell everybody how fast I went around
- 3:18Nurburgring. And here's why.
- 3:20Drink a coffee. The Nurburgring racetrack, the
- 3:27legendary racetrack is run by the German police.
- 3:33Oh, yeah. I remember years ago when Big
- 3:36Brother Rusty ran Usack, we were up there racing at New Jersey,
- 3:41Trenton, NJ, and they Black Flag Rusty in practice and the the
- 3:47New Jersey Highway Patrol Black Flag Rusty because he didn't
- 3:50have gloves on. And they said, yeah, the
- 3:53Trenton, NJ, the Highway Patrol, they run the racetrack.
- 3:57It's like, what in the world? That was the last time I
- 4:01remember anything like that. So remember that the German
- 4:08Highway Patrol run the racetrack.
- 4:11So what I did was called, it was basically the whole community.
- 4:17You pay the fee and everybody, everybody could go on the
- 4:22racetrack at the same time. You had a husband and wife in an
- 4:28Audi sports car. You look over there and there's
- 4:30a husband and a wife in an Audi sports car just hauling ass and
- 4:34you're like, this is unreal. So when you say how fast did you
- 4:40go around Nurburgring, what was your time?
- 4:44I'll tell you what, the owner of RSR, it was the owner, RSR
- 4:49Nurburgring. That's who we rented our BMW
- 4:52from. That's important.
- 4:53Everybody want to know what kind of car were you in?
- 4:57I was in a nice BMW with good brakes on it, paddle shifters,
- 5:02brakes squeaked a little bit. A lot of people watch some of
- 5:05that video. I can't help it.
- 5:06The brakes squeaked and so did everybody else's brakes squeak
- 5:11just the way it is. I don't know why, but I had good
- 5:13brakes. So Ron Simon, Ron Simon Racing,
- 5:19he said, Kenny, remember this about Nurburgring.
- 5:24It kills four to five people a year and it just don't matter.
- 5:30Your lap time and how you go just don't matter.
- 5:35I thought to myself, man, that sounds like Dick Trickle
- 5:38talking. It just don't matter.
- 5:41So we got to look at things through a lens.
- 5:43The fastest time around Nurburgring is 5 minutes, 14
- 5:48seconds, running well over 200 mile an hour, like 240 mph.
- 5:54So I'm not going to pay attention to my lap time in a
- 5:56damn BMW streetcar. I think I went around here maybe
- 6:0110 minutes. But here's the other thing.
- 6:04I think it was Sir Jackie Stewart, the great Formula One
- 6:08racer. After everybody got killed there
- 6:12and hurt in Formula One, you know, they, they stopped racing
- 6:15there because the race track was too dangerous.
- 6:18Now you see the Formula One tracks had big run offs.
- 6:21Formula Ones come a long way. They require big run offs.
- 6:26So here's why my time did not matter to me at Nurburgring
- 6:33because they call it the Lotta Links.
- 6:35Remember Nikki Lotta, the great Formula One racer, he's all
- 6:39burnt up. That happened right there at
- 6:41Nurburgring. Nikki lawsuit coming around
- 6:44there. Now they nickname it the Lotta
- 6:46Links. He's wrecked and the whole
- 6:49racetrack is got blind spots. You're wide open.
- 6:53You come up around this hill and you're thinking you're hauling
- 6:56ass and all of a sudden there's somebody parked right in the
- 6:58middle of the racetrack and you centre punch them.
- 7:02And that's what they did to Niki Lotta.
- 7:04His car burst into flames that burnt him.
- 7:06Horrible. And that's how Niki Lotta got
- 7:09all burned up right there at Nurburgring.
- 7:12The Lotta links Green Hell because they didn't have a lot
- 7:19of guard rails and you would fly off into the woods.
- 7:22And that's why Sir Jackie Stewart nicknamed it Green Hell.
- 7:26Got to get out of this place, This place that kill you.
- 7:31So when we took our safety briefing, they scared us half to
- 7:36death. I'm like hell, I don't know if I
- 7:37want to go on this racetrack. Sure enough, I'm happier than
- 7:42hell though. I'm ready to go because because
- 7:44I'm a race car driver. I get my helmet on.
- 7:47I get in that BMW and I go down the bottom of hill and they give
- 7:51you this little pass and you hit the you hit the little gate and
- 7:55the gate comes up for all of us and we get on the highway, which
- 8:00is called which is the racetrack Nurburgering and hundreds of
- 8:04cars are all lined up and we get on that racetrack.
- 8:07You go flying around and all of a sudden yellow lights are
- 8:09flashing. You go like a mile and you're
- 8:11like, what's going on? This is a 13 mile Rd. course.
- 8:16Sure enough, they red flag it. Somebody in front of me knocked
- 8:21down guardrails, didn't kill themselves.
- 8:25But that's the problem with Nurburgering.
- 8:27It is so unique, so strange. It was so hard for me to explain
- 8:31to everybody. I have so much content that I
- 8:33thought I'd wait till I get home.
- 8:36So they kill everybody to racetrack because you're trying
- 8:39to be you're, you think you're Lewis Hamilton, you think you're
- 8:43Kimmy Antanoli, you think you're Max Verstappen and you're flying
- 8:48around there. And to this day you're, you're
- 8:51like, oh man, I'm going to set a record.
- 8:53You come up over the hill and there's somebody spun out right
- 8:55there and you centre punch them and kill them. 13 mile
- 8:59racetrack. Hell, we left the racetrack.
- 9:02We're like, it's time to go home.
- 9:03We left the racetrack. We got about 6 miles down the
- 9:07road and all these people were gathered on the side of the road
- 9:10and we realized 6 miles away from the racetrack, the
- 9:13racetrack ran over this area and everybody's watching the real
- 9:16race cars because it's a 13 mile Rd. course.
- 9:19Hey, did I tell you it's a 13 mile Rd. course?
- 9:25So as far as my speed, you come around the last corner, it's a
- 9:30big long straightaway, but you can't go but halfway down
- 9:33because the gates down. So I could have gone 100 and
- 9:378200 mile an hour, but you got to slow down, show your pass,
- 9:42and then the gate opens so it slows you down and you can't
- 9:45help it because once again, the track, I'm just reminding you
- 9:50all, it's run by the German Highway Patrol.
- 9:54So in ending, I ran 147 mile an hour, had a good time, made six
- 10:00laps around Nurburgring green L, and there was yellow flags,
- 10:06there was red flags. And you know that car rented, I
- 10:10gave it back without a mark on it and everything's perfect.
- 10:17Hope that explains everything. It just wasn't worth it to try
- 10:21to set a speed record in a passenger car.
- 10:26Have a great one day everybody.
