- 0:05Speaker 1: NFL Now is a production of the NFL in partnership
- 0:08Speaker 1: with I Heart Radio. All Right, you never know what's
- 0:18Speaker 1: gonna happen when you come in here on a Monday.
- 0:21Speaker 1: Welcome to NFL Now on NFL Network. That is Steve White,
- 0:24Speaker 1: him andrews Ceciliano coming up. We'll try to figure out
- 0:27Speaker 1: what's wrong with the Buccaneers and Tom Brady. They score
- 0:29Speaker 1: only three points. They get the Ravens at home on TNAF.
- 0:33Speaker 1: Will try to get under the hood as well as
- 0:34Speaker 1: we did last hour where Aaron Rodgers and the Green
- 0:37Speaker 1: Bay Packers. They are three and four. But we had
- 0:40Speaker 1: a major quarterback shake up moments ago in Indianapolis. It's
- 0:46Speaker 1: Matt Ryan to the bench and Sam Ellinger to the
- 0:50Speaker 1: starting lineup. It's a grade two shoulder separation for thirty
- 0:55Speaker 1: seven year old Matt Ryan. He's not gonna play this
- 0:58Speaker 1: week for the Colts against the Commanders. But Frank Reich says,
- 1:01Speaker 1: this is not just a one week move. He is
- 1:07Speaker 1: a prose pro. This guy, this guy is special, special, special,
- 1:11Speaker 1: And you know, we all we know right at the
- 1:13Speaker 1: quarterback position that it's not our poor production on offense
- 1:19Speaker 1: is not on one person. That's not on Matt Ryan. UM,
- 1:22Speaker 1: but we also know as Matt and I talked it
- 1:24Speaker 1: through hey as head coach and quarterback as head coach.
- 1:27Speaker 1: Ultimately it doesn't matter. I'm judged on wins and losses.
- 1:30Speaker 1: Quarterbacks judged on points and you know, and production and turnovers.
- 1:34Speaker 1: As we understand, that's how it is in this league.
- 1:36Speaker 1: And so, UM, Matt will be a pro. You know,
- 1:40Speaker 1: I will say this as you guys saw or maybe so.
- 1:44Speaker 1: He did get banged up in the game. He does
- 1:46Speaker 1: have a great, great two um shoulder separation. Uh, and
- 1:51Speaker 1: so we'll not practice this week, will be inactive. UM.
- 1:55Speaker 1: Nick will be number two UM. And but Matt is
- 1:59Speaker 1: committed to help in this team and every way he can.
- 2:01Speaker 1: He's got a lot of years experience. You always got
- 2:03Speaker 1: to stay ready. You never know. This is a funny league.
- 2:06Speaker 1: So I'm still believe MAT's gonna help us get to
- 2:08Speaker 1: where we want to go in whatever role that is.
- 2:11Speaker 1: Nick being Nick Foles who now moves up to the
- 2:13Speaker 1: number two quarterback position. Ian Rappaport Yet, Wow, live there
- 2:17Speaker 1: in Foxburg ahead a Monday night, we'll hear about that
- 2:20Speaker 1: game shortly. Tom Pelaceo as well. Let me read a
- 2:23Speaker 1: quote to you here, guys, also Frank Reich quote. The
- 2:28Speaker 1: move right now is for Sam to be the starter
- 2:31Speaker 1: for the rest of the season, and so shoulder injury
- 2:35Speaker 1: is just one small part of this story. It is
- 2:40Speaker 1: one small part of this story. It's a part of it.
- 2:41Speaker 1: Matt Ryan not being there to be the backup is
- 2:43Speaker 1: a thing, but the major thing is the Indian Appois
- 2:47Speaker 1: Colts now have a new starting quarterback, Sam Elinger, who
- 2:50Speaker 1: I know has been intriguing to various people around the league,
- 2:53Speaker 1: someone that I know other gms have been kind of watching, monitoring.
- 2:56Speaker 1: I wonder if that guy would be available, maybe we
- 2:58Speaker 1: could trade for him under the right circumstances, just because
- 3:01Speaker 1: he's so talented. He is now the starting quarterback for
- 3:04Speaker 1: the Indian app Post Colts, and just a couple of
- 3:06Speaker 1: days ago, Tom I talked to Colts owner Jim ur Say,
- 3:09Speaker 1: who told me, among other things, that Matt Ryan is
- 3:12Speaker 1: a steely eyed missileman. I believe that was the quote.
- 3:15Speaker 1: I might have messed it up, but I believe that
- 3:17Speaker 1: was it. He also told me that he was as
- 3:19Speaker 1: good leaders he's seen since Peyton Manny. Regardless, Matt Ryan
- 3:23Speaker 1: just simply not getting it. Done in the field. The
- 3:25Speaker 1: Colts offense has been a mess in general, cruly Ryan
- 3:28Speaker 1: struggling to make some of the throws, and so now
- 3:30Speaker 1: sam Elinger, despite the fact that Matt Ryan is fully
- 3:34Speaker 1: guaranteed on his contract for the next two years, is
- 3:37Speaker 1: now the starter. This is a move that the Colts
- 3:42Speaker 1: never could have contemplated when they acquired Matt Ryan for
- 3:45Speaker 1: a third round pick from the Atlanta Falcons back in
- 3:48Speaker 1: the spring. I thought to Frank Bright a couple of
- 3:50Speaker 1: weeks later, and he said he had gone through all
- 3:51Speaker 1: the tape and thought Matt Ryan could make all the throws. Obviously,
- 3:54Speaker 1: they were looking for stability in terms of the leadership
- 3:57Speaker 1: of the operation as well. Matt Ryan checked all those boxes.
- 4:00Speaker 1: But something that jumped out, especially in recent weeks here
- 4:04Speaker 1: was Matt Ryan just in terms of having the arm
- 4:07Speaker 1: to make all the throws, seemed to be struggling. And
- 4:10Speaker 1: that was just one factor in why this Coolts offense
- 4:13Speaker 1: was repeatedly struggling to score. With Sam Ellier, it's a
- 4:17Speaker 1: guy who they liked. They drafted him out of Texas
- 4:20Speaker 1: because of his toughness, because of his makeup, even though
- 4:22Speaker 1: he doesn't necessarily have the physical traits of some other quarterbacks.
- 4:26Speaker 1: He's not the tallest guy, he doesn't have the big arm,
- 4:29Speaker 1: but he has a knack for making things happen. So
- 4:31Speaker 1: you're trying to jump start a team that is supposed
- 4:33Speaker 1: to go through the running game with Jonathan Taylor, the
- 4:36Speaker 1: offensive line which has not played well enough through the
- 4:38Speaker 1: course of the season and has had some moving parts,
- 4:41Speaker 1: and a defense that has not had its lever leader
- 4:43Speaker 1: um in Shack Leonard for all but a couple of
- 4:46Speaker 1: quarters so far this season. For Matt Ryan, as he
- 4:49Speaker 1: and mentioned, they're paying him about twenty four million dollars
- 4:51Speaker 1: this season, andrew twelve million dollars of his base salary
- 4:56Speaker 1: for next season also guaranteed, so they're committed financially to
- 5:01Speaker 1: Matt Ryan. But shoulder separation or no shoulder separation, rank
- 5:05Speaker 1: Big says this was going to be the move. This
- 5:08Speaker 1: is a sea change right now in Indianapolis. They hope
- 5:11Speaker 1: for the better and look for the most part. Money
- 5:14Speaker 1: aside here Compared to say what the Browns did or
- 5:18Speaker 1: what the Broncos did the Colts, the Colts only gave
- 5:23Speaker 1: up the eighties second overall pick for Matt Ryan, but
- 5:26Speaker 1: they did so firmly believing that. I mean, they pulled
- 5:30Speaker 1: a fast one and everything, and they had the guy
- 5:33Speaker 1: to take them to the next level because it was
- 5:36Speaker 1: Carson Wentz's fault last year. So here's Matt Ryan for
- 5:39Speaker 1: the eighties second overall pick. We kind of slid in
- 5:41Speaker 1: their stolen for a third and bam. But now they
- 5:44Speaker 1: get swept by the Titans. They're not gonna, you know,
- 5:47Speaker 1: likely be a wild cartoon. They should win that division
- 5:49Speaker 1: if they're gonna make the playoffs. They get swept by
- 5:51Speaker 1: the Titans. Um, they've lost five in a row to
- 5:54Speaker 1: Tennessee and wow, that was ugly. And you're gonna say,
- 5:59Speaker 1: but in trading camp, you know, and Tom mentioned the
- 6:02Speaker 1: inability from Matt Ryan and make those Remember I talked
- 6:04Speaker 1: to coach Frank Reich about just Matt Ryan's arm how
- 6:07Speaker 1: much did he have left? What were they seeing and
- 6:08Speaker 1: told me he watched fifty throws that was enough. He
- 6:11Speaker 1: was sure that Matt Ryan had the arm strength to
- 6:14Speaker 1: get it done. And that might have been true. Then
- 6:16Speaker 1: that might have been true based on last year. And
- 6:18Speaker 1: I was there and campany looked okay, I would say,
- 6:21Speaker 1: but clearly the arm strength not what it is you know, unfortunately,
- 6:24Speaker 1: and Matt Ryan's had some great, incredible moments in his career,
- 6:29Speaker 1: just physically, it looks like it's going the wrong direction.
- 6:32Speaker 1: And so for the coast to say we made a
- 6:34Speaker 1: mistake instead, it's now going to be this guy. On
- 6:37Speaker 1: one hand, it's admitting a mistake. On the other hand,
- 6:39Speaker 1: they're moving forward with a really fascinating new quarterback at
- 6:43Speaker 1: a time when it seems in the organization. Organizationally they
- 6:46Speaker 1: really need some wins, really needs they do. As I said,
- 6:49Speaker 1: they were swept by the Titans. So there goes that
- 6:51Speaker 1: head to head five straight to division rival Tennessee. Ian
- 6:54Speaker 1: Rappaport and Tom Pellicero, gentlemen, thank you a stunner here
- 6:57Speaker 1: on Monday. Here's the announcement from the Colts. Sam Ellinger, who,
- 7:02Speaker 1: for what it's worth, and it's a big for what
- 7:04Speaker 1: it's worth, was the highest rated quarterback in the preseason
- 7:09Speaker 1: from any team. He had a passer rating of one
- 7:13Speaker 1: seven point eight. Okay, I mean a big deal. Here
- 7:16Speaker 1: Here are the numbers in the preseason. Again, it is
- 7:20Speaker 1: the preseason. Sam Ellinger has made some plays when given
- 7:24Speaker 1: an opportunity, but this is this is mark a move
- 7:31Speaker 1: in my eyes, that is desperate by Frank Reich. I
- 7:35Speaker 1: mean you are desperate to do anything now to save
- 7:39Speaker 1: your season. Yeah, for sure. And uh, if Sam Mellinger
- 7:43Speaker 1: was the guy we're building him up now, he would
- 7:44Speaker 1: have started from the beginning of the season. But just
- 7:47Speaker 1: going back to Matt Ryan, and this is what happens
- 7:50Speaker 1: when you don't evaluate what you see on film and
- 7:53Speaker 1: you give these older quarterbacks the benefit of the doubt
- 7:55Speaker 1: because of their leadership and how great they are in
- 7:58Speaker 1: the locker room and their past accomplishments, and you don't
- 8:02Speaker 1: really evaluate and say, you know what, Matt Ryan can't
- 8:05Speaker 1: play anymore. And that's what I when I evaluated Matt
- 8:08Speaker 1: Ryan the past few years. He just couldn't do the
- 8:11Speaker 1: things you needed him to do. Get the ball down
- 8:13Speaker 1: the field, a lot of mistakes, got down early in
- 8:15Speaker 1: games because he couldn't generate the offense. But yet it
- 8:18Speaker 1: was sold because of all the superlatives off the field
- 8:22Speaker 1: that he could be resurrected. And you'd say it ad
- 8:25Speaker 1: nausea And we just talked about it earlier with Russell
- 8:27Speaker 1: Wilson in Seattle. That is one of the hardest things
- 8:30Speaker 1: to do is to move on now He goes to
- 8:32Speaker 1: the Colts thinking they could rehab Matt Ryan because of
- 8:35Speaker 1: all those great things that he does off the field.
- 8:38Speaker 1: But in the field of play you saw a very
- 8:40Speaker 1: very limited Matt Ryan with supposed to be the game manager.
- 8:44Speaker 1: But now he's making mistakes. He can't get out of
- 8:46Speaker 1: the way, he takes a ton of sacks, he fumbles
- 8:48Speaker 1: the ball. So this is the right thing to do
- 8:51Speaker 1: for the Colts offense. The Colts offense and team looked
- 8:55Speaker 1: too little, too late, But I think just the evaluation
- 8:57Speaker 1: process was missed, just because too often teams just don't
- 9:00Speaker 1: evaluate the film. But the Colts bigger picture year and
- 9:03Speaker 1: in year out. Now it's just the quarterback rehab facility
- 9:05Speaker 1: that they don't come out rehab that. Since we went
- 9:07Speaker 1: from Rivers the Wents now River uh now back to Ryan.
- 9:11Speaker 1: Now we got Ellinger. When will it stop for the future? Steve, Yeah,
- 9:15Speaker 1: maybe maybe that's next season. Mark. I want to I'm
- 9:17Speaker 1: not gonna talk too long because I mean, you went
- 9:18Speaker 1: through this with Eli Manning, and you know you're talking
- 9:20Speaker 1: about a quarterback at the end of his career. But look,
- 9:23Speaker 1: we don't we don't you see this with the older
- 9:25Speaker 1: quarterbacks who get traded for. As Andrew just explained Toil fantastically.
- 9:29Speaker 1: You know, we all thought the culture gonna be in
- 9:30Speaker 1: Super Bowl contention because the Matt Ryan element was gonna
- 9:33Speaker 1: settle down this roster. Look, I used to cover the
- 9:36Speaker 1: Atlanta Falcons and Mac Ryan was was drafted by the Falcon.
- 9:39Speaker 1: So I have been sinceince oh, seven oh eight, all
- 9:42Speaker 1: those years with Matt Ryan's he didn't do some great things,
- 9:45Speaker 1: the guy who never had the big arm, but had
- 9:48Speaker 1: all of the other tangible elements. I mean, look, he
- 9:50Speaker 1: took a team to a Super Bowl the year he
- 9:51Speaker 1: was an m v P when Kyle Shanahan was the
- 9:54Speaker 1: offensive coordinator there. So to see him get benched, uh,
- 9:58Speaker 1: is a little bit staggering because you know, you look
- 10:00Speaker 1: at guys who played. You know, Ben Roethlisberger was not
- 10:03Speaker 1: the same guy he was at the end of his career.
- 10:05Speaker 1: Brett Farve was like, these guys still their teams still
- 10:09Speaker 1: hung on to them because of who they were. But again,
- 10:11Speaker 1: Matt Ryan was traded for. As Andrew said, it does
- 10:14Speaker 1: seemed like it is a little bit desperate here because
- 10:16Speaker 1: they've got to get wins. We just saw Jim Mercy
- 10:18Speaker 1: go to the owner's meeting and pop off, so he's
- 10:20Speaker 1: feel a little bit frisky. Maybe they're feeling that in
- 10:22Speaker 1: the building as well. But to recognize this um and
- 10:26Speaker 1: to make this move. I know the injury attributed to that,
- 10:30Speaker 1: but man, I mean this is a very damning, Like
- 10:32Speaker 1: you said, evaluation, just everything about this is kind of staggering,
- 10:36Speaker 1: a mind blowing when I look at this, and Mark,
- 10:39Speaker 1: I mean, if we have we have time here. I
- 10:40Speaker 1: just wanted you went through this with Eli Manning. I mean,
- 10:42Speaker 1: you know how difficult this is to Smith which to
- 10:47Speaker 1: actually make a move like this, right, And that's why
- 10:50Speaker 1: again I'm so sensitive to the situation because you know
- 10:53Speaker 1: that it's the other things, not the feeling. You can
- 10:56Speaker 1: look at him each week and say, man, he can't
- 10:57Speaker 1: play anymore, but you love the guy so much, so
- 10:59Speaker 1: you make evaluations with your heart instead of your eyes,
- 11:02Speaker 1: and you'll see it year after year with these quarterback
- 11:05Speaker 1: Actually just talked about Brady and Rodgers. Are they done?
- 11:07Speaker 1: But teams will keep holding onto them because of the
- 11:10Speaker 1: other intangible elements that go along with it. I want
- 11:13Speaker 1: to look at the schedule. I mentioned they got sweat
- 11:15Speaker 1: by the Titans, and that was devastating five straight losses.
- 11:18Speaker 1: They lost in week four and then lost him again
- 11:20Speaker 1: week seven. I said they're not going to make it.
- 11:22Speaker 1: The Colts won't as a wild card. That might have
- 11:25Speaker 1: been a little too aggressive here, because if you look
- 11:27Speaker 1: at the a f C West and other than Buffalo
- 11:30Speaker 1: or or Kansas City, no one's really running away with anything.
- 11:34Speaker 1: There isn't a division leader with five or more wins
- 11:39Speaker 1: other than the Jets. So the Colts at three wins
- 11:43Speaker 1: can still legitimately make a wild card here. But it
- 11:46Speaker 1: is not an easy schedule. They got Washington and Taylor
- 11:49Speaker 1: Heineke this week, and then it's New England, Vegas, Philly, Pittsburgh, Dallas, Minnesota,
- 11:55Speaker 1: the Chargers, the Giants. There are no easy outs on
- 11:58Speaker 1: this schedule whatsoever. And you're tossing the Keys, the Sam
- 12:02Speaker 1: Mellon boy, but just the whole quarterback here cell that
- 12:05Speaker 1: they've had there. I mean, the instability is just is
- 12:08Speaker 1: absolutely amazing. Look, how do you think the Falcons are
- 12:10Speaker 1: feeling now? Like we got rid of Matt Ryan for
- 12:12Speaker 1: a third round draft pick. We're doing okay with Marcus Mariota.
- 12:16Speaker 1: They're doing just fine. Yesterday not a great example love
- 12:18Speaker 1: of the offense really couldn't do anything against the Bengals.
- 12:21Speaker 1: But credit to the Bengals. The eight second overall pick,
- 12:23Speaker 1: by the way, in exchange for Matt Ryan turned into
- 12:26Speaker 1: D'Angelo Malone, the edge rusher from Western Kentucky. So two overall,
- 12:32Speaker 1: Matt Ryan bench. That is your story today. There is
- 12:37Speaker 1: other news obviously around the league, and there's news out
- 12:40Speaker 1: of New York that is uncomfortable for those five and
- 12:42Speaker 1: two Jets. You hated Bruce Hall as expected. Robert Stale
- 12:46Speaker 1: kind of hinted at this yesterday. Done for the year,
- 12:49Speaker 1: that is according to our Tom Pella Sero Bruese. Hall
- 12:52Speaker 1: took to Twitter said he appreciates the endless love and
- 12:56Speaker 1: the supports. It's another step along the journey. See you
- 13:00Speaker 1: all soon soon, however, will not be before and all
- 13:04Speaker 1: likelihood next to year and training camp. I mentioned Tom
- 13:07Speaker 1: had that news. He's with us and in Rappid wore
- 13:09Speaker 1: back with us as well. Tom. This injury comes eight
- 13:12Speaker 1: days before the trade deadline. Michael Carter is the number
- 13:15Speaker 1: two back, but Robert Sale and the Jets are losing
- 13:18Speaker 1: Breeze Hall. That's right, Andrew. This was something Robert Sala
- 13:21Speaker 1: had said was the belief based upon the initial physical
- 13:25Speaker 1: exam on Breefe Hall, which is usually pretty accurate when
- 13:28Speaker 1: it comes to torn a c LS. The the m
- 13:30Speaker 1: r I confirmed it this morning. It is a torn
- 13:32Speaker 1: a c L for Briefe Hall. He also has some
- 13:35Speaker 1: minor meniscus damage, which is pretty common with a c LS.
- 13:39Speaker 1: He had been a huge piece of this offense, particularly
- 13:42Speaker 1: in recent weeks. Is that Jets offense, but Zach Wilson
- 13:45Speaker 1: back in the lineup had begin to begun to gather
- 13:48Speaker 1: steam and the Jets have been winning some games. Now
- 13:50Speaker 1: you mentioned Michael Carter, he would certainly be the next
- 13:53Speaker 1: man up. You also have to look at the fact
- 13:55Speaker 1: that trade deadline is eight days away. Here there are
- 13:57Speaker 1: some high profile backs, guys like Cam Akers who potentially
- 14:01Speaker 1: are available, and we are getting to that time where
- 14:03Speaker 1: the teams that in the Jets situation, are inside of
- 14:07Speaker 1: the playoff picks that they're gonna have to make some
- 14:09Speaker 1: decisions about whether they're going to be aggressive, go out
- 14:11Speaker 1: and additional pieces, or go with the guys who have
- 14:13Speaker 1: been developing the house. And it's amazing, Tom, the thing
- 14:16Speaker 1: about the Jets being in a position where they could
- 14:18Speaker 1: be buyers at the trade deadline. The Jets could be
- 14:21Speaker 1: buyers at the trade deadline, which is truly amazing. And
- 14:24Speaker 1: there are some running backs you mentioned one in Cam
- 14:27Speaker 1: Makers Kareem Hunt another one I know early on in
- 14:29Speaker 1: training Cam had some desires to be traded the way
- 14:32Speaker 1: the Brown season has gone. He's not under contract for
- 14:34Speaker 1: next year. That would certainly be another name to consider
- 14:37Speaker 1: as well. If the Jets wanted to make a move
- 14:39Speaker 1: for running back now, like Kareem Hunt or someone like that,
- 14:42Speaker 1: would be that expensive at this point. So if there's
- 14:45Speaker 1: one thing that we know about Joe Douglas, similar to
- 14:47Speaker 1: some of the other younger gms around the league, he
- 14:50Speaker 1: is open to some trades. I'd keep an eye on
- 14:52Speaker 1: the Jets, all right. Both of those running backs you mentioned,
- 14:54Speaker 1: their acres and Hunt come from systems where they could
- 14:57Speaker 1: likely step in pretty quickly there for michaela floor. Meantime, Tom,
- 15:02Speaker 1: this video that's going around of the officials they're leaving
- 15:04Speaker 1: the build or leaving the field in Carolina has has
- 15:07Speaker 1: opened a lot of eyes. Here tell me about this
- 15:09Speaker 1: league investigation into an autograph. Let's start with this, Andrew.
- 15:16Speaker 1: The NFL does not yet know exactly what was happening here,
- 15:21Speaker 1: which is why they are initiating the review. The two
- 15:23Speaker 1: game officials you see there are side judge Jeff Lambert
- 15:27Speaker 1: and line judge Trip Sutter, who appeared to be handing
- 15:31Speaker 1: Mike Evans something for him to sign. Now, again, we
- 15:36Speaker 1: don't know that this was autograph seeking, though obviously there
- 15:39Speaker 1: are a lot of people on Twitter who have immediately
- 15:41Speaker 1: gone to that conclusion. It is worth mentioning the NFL
- 15:44Speaker 1: NFL are a collective Barney agreement specifically says game officials
- 15:48Speaker 1: shall not ask players, coaches, or any other team personnel
- 15:52Speaker 1: for autographs or memorabilia. So what exactly it was like
- 15:57Speaker 1: Kevin signing and why in that particular situation something that
- 16:01Speaker 1: struck a lot of people as odd. The league is
- 16:03Speaker 1: going to get to the bottom of it, and I
- 16:04Speaker 1: would have imagine we will get some answers here. Pretty
- 16:07Speaker 1: it's not like golfhere you have to sign your scorecard. Um,
- 16:10Speaker 1: after you're round. Ian dk Metcalf, what's his story? This
- 16:17Speaker 1: was kind of a weird one. Dk Metcalf landed a
- 16:19Speaker 1: little bit awkwardly on his knee and was quickly ruled out,
- 16:22Speaker 1: which almost always is you guys know, means of real
- 16:24Speaker 1: and significant injury does not seem to be the case
- 16:27Speaker 1: though in DK Metcalf, who was you know, smiling a
- 16:30Speaker 1: little bit after the injury, was spotted following the game
- 16:32Speaker 1: walking without a limp, which is a very good sign. Uh.
- 16:36Speaker 1: We all were kind of wondering what is this. Turns
- 16:37Speaker 1: out it's a proteller tendon strain, no surgery for DK Metcalf,
- 16:42Speaker 1: which is the most important thing. Not considered to be
- 16:45Speaker 1: season ending, but it is week to week and First
- 16:47Speaker 1: Seattle one of the really the one of the fuel
- 16:50Speaker 1: good stories of the NFL, and Metcalf has been a
- 16:52Speaker 1: huge part of it along with Geno Smith. He now
- 16:55Speaker 1: faces the prospect of being out one or probably more games,
- 16:59Speaker 1: but the fact that it's not season ending is a
- 17:01Speaker 1: little bit of a silver line. Okay, so some good
- 17:03Speaker 1: news there. Potentially, what about Evan Neil's situation? Well, and
- 17:07Speaker 1: this could be another situation where you have a player
- 17:09Speaker 1: who is going to miss some time, but not as
- 17:11Speaker 1: much as it initially appeared he might. Evan Neil, the
- 17:14Speaker 1: highly picked offensive tackle for the New York Giants, suffering
- 17:17Speaker 1: a knee injury that I am told is believed to
- 17:20Speaker 1: be an mc l Sprain. Now there's a lot of
- 17:22Speaker 1: different degrees of that. There are different types, and the
- 17:26Speaker 1: timetable is going to vary as well, So you would
- 17:29Speaker 1: certainly expect that Neil status is going to be very
- 17:31Speaker 1: much in doubt here in the near term coming up
- 17:34Speaker 1: this week for the Giants, But not an a c
- 17:37Speaker 1: L injury is my understanding here. So there's some optimism
- 17:40Speaker 1: he's going to get back on the field soon or later,
- 17:42Speaker 1: including from Neil himself, who actually walked out of the
- 17:45Speaker 1: locker room after the game yesterday. He had a rap
- 17:48Speaker 1: and a brace on that left knee, but no crutches.
- 17:51Speaker 1: He was walking under his own power. A reporter asked him,
- 17:53Speaker 1: how is he doing? He said, don't worry about me.
- 17:55Speaker 1: I'll be fine. Giants are in Seattle to face the Seahawks.
- 18:00Speaker 1: And if you had that game circled in August as
- 18:04Speaker 1: one of the Prima A Week eight matchups, raise your hand,
- 18:07Speaker 1: now put it down because you're a liar. Coming up.
- 18:11Speaker 1: Speaking of interesting, what in the world is going on
- 18:14Speaker 1: with Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers. They've lost
- 18:16Speaker 1: three games in a rope the first time in four years.
- 18:19Speaker 1: Last time that happened, Mike McCarthy got fired. We'll try
- 18:23Speaker 1: to figure out the Packers coming up on NFL. Now
- 18:26Speaker 1: when when win win win? Okay, so there's no way
- 18:33Speaker 1: the Packers are gonna lose three in a row. Like
- 18:35Speaker 1: Carson Wentz out White and Taylor. I'm a huge Taylor
- 18:38Speaker 1: Heinekey fan. In hike, he started so poorly, like started
- 18:41Speaker 1: one for seven and then here tov Andre Campbell with
- 18:45Speaker 1: a pick six. The Packers had another defensive touchdown called back.
- 18:48Speaker 1: This was a one sided game early early on up
- 18:51Speaker 1: fourteen three. The beautiful house call Carthon Wentz like I
- 18:55Speaker 1: could have done betterday. Yeah, but they let Taylor Heinek
- 18:58Speaker 1: hang around and you can't do that. Terry McLaurin propet
- 19:02Speaker 1: of the bucket eating Jay Alexander, the Commanders are in command.
- 19:08Speaker 1: They win one. Aaron Rodgers, You still think this team
- 19:12Speaker 1: is gonna make the playoff? Right, they can make a run, right,
- 19:17Speaker 1: it does I'm not I'm not worried about this squad.
- 19:21Speaker 1: In fact, this might be the best thing for us
- 19:24Speaker 1: this week. You know, nobody's gonna give us a chance
- 19:27Speaker 1: going to Buffalo and some night football. The chance they
- 19:31Speaker 1: get exposed, shoot, might be the best thing for us.
- 19:36Speaker 1: Our guys are extremely disappointed. I don't think anybody thought
- 19:39Speaker 1: we'd be in the spot that we're in right now. Um,
- 19:43Speaker 1: and we're gonna find out what we're made of. So listen,
- 19:47Speaker 1: we told you the Packers are never lost back to
- 19:49Speaker 1: back games under the floor. While they did that last week.
- 19:51Speaker 1: Now they've lost three straight. Rogers hadn't lost three straight
- 19:55Speaker 1: since Oh wait, I'm sorry since eighteen. Okay, but you
- 19:59Speaker 1: see these stats. Oh eight is part of it. He
- 20:00Speaker 1: has not been three and four since oh eight. We
- 20:04Speaker 1: can complain about the young wide receivers, Mark Ross, Steve Whites.
- 20:09Speaker 1: We could say the old line David Botr didn't play obviously,
- 20:12Speaker 1: that is a major issue as well. They had nine
- 20:14Speaker 1: penalties yesterday. There is a lot on Roger's shoulder. Is
- 20:19Speaker 1: he part of the problem. Is he playing well despite
- 20:22Speaker 1: the problems? What do you see? Well, Well, he's not
- 20:24Speaker 1: playing great. I mean, we've seen him play better. Now.
- 20:27Speaker 1: There's probably a lot of things that go into this.
- 20:29Speaker 1: But the one thing the Packers have always asked more
- 20:31Speaker 1: of Aaron Rodgers than any other team is asked of
- 20:35Speaker 1: their quarterback. Right, they really don't run the ball. They
- 20:37Speaker 1: only ran a twelve times against Washington yesterday. Um, they
- 20:41Speaker 1: barely possessed the ball Washington hell of the thirty seven
- 20:44Speaker 1: twenty three time of possession advantage. But they're just not
- 20:47Speaker 1: functioning overall. Right, Aaron Rodgers is right. This is a
- 20:50Speaker 1: team that probably couldn't go on a type of a run.
- 20:53Speaker 1: But right now they're not playing good football. They started out,
- 20:56Speaker 1: they had that fourteen to three lead one because of
- 20:59Speaker 1: defensive score, but overall, just nothing seems to be going right,
- 21:04Speaker 1: guys or not he plays again, Rodgers is not is
- 21:07Speaker 1: accurate or as good as he is. One thing he's
- 21:09Speaker 1: not doing, he's really turning the ball over. But Mark,
- 21:11Speaker 1: when you watch his Packers team, they just don't seem
- 21:13Speaker 1: to have any juice. And I mean I think offensively,
- 21:17Speaker 1: maybe getting the ball to Aaron Jones hands and and
- 21:18Speaker 1: a j Dealings hands a little bit more might help.
- 21:21Speaker 1: But they just don't seem to have any pop or
- 21:22Speaker 1: excitement to what they're doing. And that comes down to talents,
- 21:26Speaker 1: to even a lack of talent. And look, Aaron Rodgers
- 21:29Speaker 1: old quarterbacks, they all hit the wall. I know a
- 21:31Speaker 1: lot of them are ageless. He's the goat, but they
- 21:33Speaker 1: hit the wall. And they never come back to the
- 21:35Speaker 1: form that they once were. And I see the that
- 21:37Speaker 1: in Aaron Rodgers right now. But the combination of that
- 21:40Speaker 1: you talked about not running the ball. Their best players
- 21:42Speaker 1: are there running backs and Aaron Jones and a j Dialon,
- 21:45Speaker 1: but they can't run the ball because they have no
- 21:47Speaker 1: receivers and there's no threat down the field. You saw
- 21:50Speaker 1: those highlights there where guys just either are not open
- 21:52Speaker 1: or not making plays, and that's not going to change.
- 21:55Speaker 1: So there's huge concern for me with this Packers offense.
- 21:58Speaker 1: We've been saying it week after week after week. Okay,
- 22:00Speaker 1: you know what you have to change, but if you
- 22:02Speaker 1: don't have the personnel and you don't have the talent
- 22:04Speaker 1: to change is that, then you can't change it. No
- 22:07Speaker 1: one's afraid of the Packers receivers. No one's afraid of
- 22:10Speaker 1: the Packers past game like they've been in years past,
- 22:12Speaker 1: just because there's no threat. Who's their best player, Alan Lazard.
- 22:17Speaker 1: You know Dobbs didn't play yesterday. He had been the guy.
- 22:20Speaker 1: So this is when I see this offense, it's going
- 22:22Speaker 1: to be a struggle just because teams know, let's just
- 22:24Speaker 1: load it up and let's see if any of these
- 22:26Speaker 1: guys can beat us, and I don't know if they can.
- 22:28Speaker 1: And next week against that Buffalo d we might see
- 22:31Speaker 1: more of the same with this Packers offense barely beat
- 22:33Speaker 1: Bailey's happy you get Daniel Jones, Zach Wilson, Taylor, Heineken.
- 22:37Speaker 1: Now three straight losses, not playing well in a month
- 22:40Speaker 1: and teams are trolling the Packers. Sauce Gardner was where
- 22:45Speaker 1: the said yesterday. There are a lot of green Bay
- 22:47Speaker 1: fans at FedEx Percy Butler's wearing cheese heads after the game,
- 22:54Speaker 1: these heads in the commander's locker room. Look, look there
- 22:57Speaker 1: were fans. They're chanting sell the team yesterday, right, there
- 23:01Speaker 1: are a lot of green Bay fans in the building.
- 23:04Speaker 1: Yet in the end it's the Manders who had the
- 23:06Speaker 1: last laugh here and they beat Aaron Rodgers and the Packers.
- 23:10Speaker 1: You thought it was bad for green Bay? Did you
- 23:12Speaker 1: see Tom Brady and the Buck row? This is kind
- 23:17Speaker 1: of the Buck season in a nutshell. Mike Kevans at
- 23:19Speaker 1: ten point nine yards of separation? Oh Mike, what you doing?
- 23:23Speaker 1: Eleven yards of separation? That's the opening drive that kind
- 23:27Speaker 1: of set the tones in Aaron Rodgers loses, Tom Brady loses.
- 23:31Speaker 1: Brady loses games back to back to teams with losing
- 23:36Speaker 1: records for the first time in his career. You come
- 23:40Speaker 1: up the field and I'm sure there was a lot
- 23:43Speaker 1: of things we didn't do right. So no one feels
- 23:46Speaker 1: good about where we're at. No one feels good about
- 23:48Speaker 1: how we played or what we're doing. So we all
- 23:51Speaker 1: got up. We're on it together. Man, we gotta go
- 23:53Speaker 1: put ourselves out of it. We're gonna go in tomorrow morning.
- 23:55Speaker 1: We've got a short week. We've gotta work hard to
- 23:57Speaker 1: try to fix it. Coming up next on NFL. Now,
- 24:00Speaker 1: why the long face? Try to figure out what happened
- 24:04Speaker 1: yes esterday in Carolina and can they fix it by Thursday.
- 24:16Speaker 1: I'm taking time shaking. All right, let's get to the
- 24:21Speaker 1: Tom Brady thing. So this is the first time he
- 24:23Speaker 1: has ever lost back to back games. I mean, it's
- 24:26Speaker 1: a it's a team sport. I realized two teams with
- 24:29Speaker 1: losing records and this is how it started. White. Yeah,
- 24:33Speaker 1: that doesn't help. This sets a horrible tone. A minute
- 24:36Speaker 1: a half end of the game, Mike Evans admits, look,
- 24:39Speaker 1: it kind of just took the air out of their
- 24:41Speaker 1: collective balloon. But they couldn't stop Chuba Hubbard to three.
- 24:47Speaker 1: All they got was a Ryan suck Up field goal.
- 24:49Speaker 1: They're three and four. You have to play as a team,
- 24:55Speaker 1: take accountability. You have to work hard after that. Discipline, commitment,
- 24:58Speaker 1: not on physical toughness. Those are all character traits. And
- 25:02Speaker 1: we have a lot of great guys in the locker room.
- 25:03Speaker 1: So we're gonna go in tomorrow on morning. We've got
- 25:05Speaker 1: a short week. We've gotta work hard to try to
- 25:07Speaker 1: fix it. Hm. Well, I guess because they have to
- 25:10Speaker 1: bring the ny jyng game that you know, uh come
- 25:13Speaker 1: off flat a lot of times, and uh, that's just
- 25:17Speaker 1: some Each person has a look in the mirror, and
- 25:21Speaker 1: I have to side whether they want to be on
- 25:23Speaker 1: this books teams or not. At the end of the day,
- 25:25Speaker 1: we have to wear this on our sleeves. They gotta
- 25:27Speaker 1: be grown men. We're gonna see what we're made of.
- 25:29Speaker 1: How many people can handle adversity. And it's about as
- 25:33Speaker 1: dark as it's gonna be right now, not as dark
- 25:36Speaker 1: as it's going to be right now. White and Mark
- 25:38Speaker 1: Ross And it's a short week as well. They get
- 25:41Speaker 1: the Ravens on T and F at home. The games
- 25:44Speaker 1: in Tampa for what it's worth coming up on Thursday.
- 25:46Speaker 1: No Antoine Winfield at all likelihood he's in concussion protocol.
- 25:49Speaker 1: But but Steve, one thing stood out to me, and
- 25:52Speaker 1: Todd Bowles has hinted this in the past year. He said,
- 25:54Speaker 1: what is your team lacking? He said toughness? Yeah, and
- 25:58Speaker 1: that's never good. I mean, forever a coach to call
- 26:00Speaker 1: out this team for not being tough. That's one thing.
- 26:03Speaker 1: This game, they were totally uninspired. Learning from nets, they
- 26:05Speaker 1: would keep coming out flat. Is this too many older
- 26:08Speaker 1: veterans just saying Okay, we'll be able to turn it
- 26:11Speaker 1: on at some point. The way they're playing right now,
- 26:14Speaker 1: I mean they gotta start loseing some confidence in what
- 26:15Speaker 1: they're doing. I mean, Carolina had no business in this game,
- 26:18Speaker 1: and they came out and played like they were the
- 26:20Speaker 1: better team. It was. They traded Christian McCaffrey and Robby
- 26:24Speaker 1: Anders right and there, and their coach they just got right.
- 26:27Speaker 1: And the Bucks must have came out and said, Okay,
- 26:29Speaker 1: well they're done. We're just gonna cruise to this game
- 26:30Speaker 1: and they gotta take it to them. So the Bucks, though,
- 26:33Speaker 1: our team where I think they can get it together, right,
- 26:36Speaker 1: But as Todd Bowles continues to say he's been saying
- 26:38Speaker 1: for a week, one, we have to decide to see
- 26:40Speaker 1: who wants to be on this team. I don't understand
- 26:43Speaker 1: what's happening in that locker room where these guys know
- 26:45Speaker 1: they can win ball games but aren't doing whatever it takes,
- 26:48Speaker 1: even mentally to win ball games. Mark, maybe you can
- 26:51Speaker 1: see this better than me. I mean, nobody's playing great.
- 26:54Speaker 1: This defense isn't playing great. That's what we thought that
- 26:56Speaker 1: bread was gonna be buttered, regardless about the offense played.
- 27:00Speaker 1: They don't run the ball. They don't even try to
- 27:01Speaker 1: run the ball. But that's nothing new, um agin And
- 27:05Speaker 1: I think this is just a bad stretch. I think
- 27:07Speaker 1: they can rally, but I don't know. I'm not so
- 27:09Speaker 1: sure that they will rally. Yeah, they got a lot
- 27:12Speaker 1: of talent, Steve, and you keep waiting for it to happen.
- 27:15Speaker 1: But the great teams I've been around, you've got leadership,
- 27:17Speaker 1: you've got continuity, and you've got the all in belief
- 27:21Speaker 1: that hey, we're gonna go win games together, not as individuals.
- 27:25Speaker 1: And look, Tom Brady's the goat. We know that. But
- 27:28Speaker 1: there's been constant distractions with Tom Brady starting with the
- 27:32Speaker 1: retirement aspect, then going with a lot of off field issues,
- 27:36Speaker 1: and now is your leader, the guy that's supposed to
- 27:38Speaker 1: be your guy, is he all in? And yes, you
- 27:41Speaker 1: can kind of push it away for a game two games,
- 27:44Speaker 1: but now we're just going on a stretch where they
- 27:46Speaker 1: just look bad and they look distracted, and that whears
- 27:49Speaker 1: on a team where you all want to believe when
- 27:51Speaker 1: you go into that building, into that locker room, that
- 27:53Speaker 1: you're all working on the same goal, you're all in
- 27:56Speaker 1: it and putting in one effort. And then you've got
- 27:59Speaker 1: your head coach who's not really providing that leadership either weekend,
- 28:02Speaker 1: and we got a lot of concerning quotes coming out
- 28:05Speaker 1: with we're not tough enough when we're living off the
- 28:07Speaker 1: Super Bowl and guys aren't buying in. You've got players
- 28:10Speaker 1: saying that. It's just a lot of odd quotes coming
- 28:13Speaker 1: out of Tampa with not just talking about execution and preparation,
- 28:18Speaker 1: but guys not really being a part of what's going on.
- 28:20Speaker 1: So to me, it just looks like a distracted team
- 28:22Speaker 1: that may not be focused on you know what, We're
- 28:25Speaker 1: all on this goal to go in and win football game.
- 28:28Speaker 1: You know the slow starts here. They've been trailing at
- 28:30Speaker 1: the half and five of their seven games. They're now
- 28:33Speaker 1: three and four, and this was supposed to be their
- 28:36Speaker 1: get right game. Congrats to Steve Wilkes. Great moment for
- 28:39Speaker 1: the Charlotte native after the game, getting the game ball.
- 28:41Speaker 1: Happy for him truly here. But other than the Saints,
- 28:45Speaker 1: who had been their nemesis, they had not lost with
- 28:48Speaker 1: Tom Brady a division game, but they had not lost
- 28:50Speaker 1: to the Falcons. They had not lost to the Panthers.
- 28:52Speaker 1: Not only had they been four and oh against the Panthers,
- 28:54Speaker 1: they had won every game by at least two touchdowns.
- 28:56Speaker 1: This was their get right game and they only get
- 28:59Speaker 1: a field goal and they got blown out three. NFL
