Transcript
- 0:00SPEAKER_00: This is the fastest way to tighten your neck.
- 0:01SPEAKER_00: No more loose skin.
- 0:03SPEAKER_00: You can be perfectly happy with your face and still hate your neck.
- 0:05SPEAKER_00: You've probably already tried something for it.
- 0:07SPEAKER_00: A cream, a device, exercises.
- 0:10SPEAKER_00: Maybe it helped a little bit for a few weeks.
- 0:11SPEAKER_00: Maybe it did nothing at all.
- 0:12SPEAKER_00: The neck isn't one layer.
- 0:14SPEAKER_00: It's five layers stacked on top of each other, and almost everything sold for a loose neck only reaches the first one.
- 0:19SPEAKER_00: If your heaviness is coming from layer three or four, you can spend years and a lot of money on the top layer and never touch what's actually pausing it.
- 0:26SPEAKER_00: I'm Dr.
- 0:27SPEAKER_00: Dan Gould, the board certified plastic surgeon in Beverly Hills with a PhD in bioengineering.
- 0:31SPEAKER_00: The neck is what I'm known for because I treat the deep neck and most surgeons don't.
- 0:35SPEAKER_00: By the end, you'll know which layer is making your neck heavy and what each one actually responds to, including the ones where the answer isn't what you want to hear.
- 0:42SPEAKER_00: A neck is five layers, and you can't tell which one is the problem from the outside.
- 0:46SPEAKER_00: Layer one is skin.
- 0:47SPEAKER_00: That's what everybody thinks a loose neck is.
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: Layer two is the fat right underneath the skin.
- 0:52SPEAKER_00: It's the layer that liposuction can reach.
- 0:53SPEAKER_00: Layer three is the platisma, which is a thin sheet of muscle from your collarbone up to your jaw.
- 0:57SPEAKER_00: It's what makes those vertical cords people see when they tense up.
- 1:00SPEAKER_00: Layer four is your submandibular glands.
- 1:02SPEAKER_00: They make saliva.
- 1:03SPEAKER_00: They sit up under the jawline, and in some people they hang low enough to show the soft fullness under the jaw.
- 1:08SPEAKER_00: Layer five is the fat underneath the muscle.
- 1:10SPEAKER_00: It's a completely different compartment from layer two, and nobody talks about it.
- 1:13SPEAKER_00: Any one of those five may be the reason your neck looks heavy or loose, which is why so many people get treated for the wrong one.
- 1:19SPEAKER_00: Most treatments only reach the top layer.
- 1:21SPEAKER_00: Creams work on the surface of the skin.
- 1:23SPEAKER_00: Radio frequency and heat-based devices work on the skin and the layer right underneath it.
- 1:27SPEAKER_00: And they do that pretty well.
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: I use them in my own practice for the right patient.
- 1:30SPEAKER_00: Exercises work the muscle, and the muscle is layer three.
- 1:33SPEAKER_00: If your neck is loose only because your skin has lost its elasticity, a skin treatment is a reasonable answer and it can help you.
- 1:40SPEAKER_00: Nothing you put on your skin reaches the gland under your jaw.
- 1:43SPEAKER_00: No device tightens a muscle that's separated down the middle.
- 1:45SPEAKER_00: No exercise will remove fat underneath the muscle.
- 1:48SPEAKER_00: That's why so many people feel lied to about their neck because nobody really lied to them.
- 1:52SPEAKER_00: They were just treated for layer one when their problem was layer four.
- 1:54SPEAKER_00: You can check which layer is yours at home.
- 1:57SPEAKER_00: Just get a mirror and put your chin level, not tipped up.
- 2:00SPEAKER_00: Pinch the skin under your jaw gently.
- 2:02SPEAKER_00: A thin fold that stays where you put it is skin laxity, layer one.
- 2:05SPEAKER_00: Real substance in what you're pinching is fat.
- 2:07SPEAKER_00: That's layer two.
- 2:08SPEAKER_00: Tilt your chin downward and toward your chest.
- 2:10SPEAKER_00: If the fullness under your jaw mostly disappears, it's soft tissue and skin.
- 2:14SPEAKER_00: If a rounded fullness stays there, that's often a gland.
- 2:16SPEAKER_00: Glands don't move.
- 2:17SPEAKER_00: Clench your jaw off, pull the corners of your mouth down really hard.
- 2:20SPEAKER_00: If you see two vertical cords that stand up in the middle of your neck, that's your platesma and it's separated.
- 2:25SPEAKER_00: Look at your jawline and profile.
- 2:26SPEAKER_00: Is there a clean edge from your ear to your chin?
- 2:28SPEAKER_00: Or does a line disappear halfway along?
- 2:30SPEAKER_00: The jawline is where all this shows up first.
- 2:32SPEAKER_00: A clean jawline usually means the layers underneath are still sitting where they belong.
- 2:36SPEAKER_00: If you want somebody to actually look at your neck and tell you which layer is doing it, that's what a consultation is for.
- 2:41SPEAKER_00: My practice is in Beverly Hills, and there's a link in the description to reach out to us.
- 2:44SPEAKER_00: Each layer responds to something different.
- 2:46SPEAKER_00: And some only respond to surgery.
- 2:49SPEAKER_00: If it's skin and only skin, you have real non-surgical options.
- 2:52SPEAKER_00: And I'd start there.
- 2:53SPEAKER_00: That's the one place where the answer to can I avoid surgery is yes.
- 2:56SPEAKER_00: If it's the fat above the muscle, that can sometimes be treated on its own.
- 2:59SPEAKER_00: And for a younger neck with good skin, it works well.
- 3:01SPEAKER_00: But removing fat from a neck whose skin won't shrink back leaves you looser than you started.
- 3:06SPEAKER_00: If it's the muscle, the platism has to be repaired from the inside.
- 3:09SPEAKER_00: There's no version of that from the outside.
- 3:10SPEAKER_00: If it's the gland or the fat underneath the muscle, we're all the way in the deep neck, and that's an operation.
- 3:16SPEAKER_00: No cream, no device, and no exercise reaches under a muscle.
- 3:19SPEAKER_00: The two questions I get asked most and why most necks need more than one fix.
- 3:23SPEAKER_00: Number one, you don't have to do the whole face to fix the neck.
- 3:26SPEAKER_00: Some people, usually younger, have a genuine neck problem and a face that's fine.
- 3:29SPEAKER_00: And there's a smaller, more targeted operation for the deep neck.
- 3:32SPEAKER_00: If you already had a face of someone else and your neck still isn't right, it's usually because the face was addressed and the layers under the neck muscle weren't.
- 3:39SPEAKER_00: A second operation on the face won't help that.
- 3:41SPEAKER_00: Going underneath it in the neck will.
- 3:42SPEAKER_00: Most necks are some skin, some fat, a bit of muscle separation, and sometimes a gland all at once.
- 3:47SPEAKER_00: That's why treating one layer at a time leaves people thinking like nothing quite worked.
- 3:51SPEAKER_00: When I do a neck, I'm working through all of it in one go, in a vector that runs almost straight up because everybody wants the same thing at the end of it, which is a jawline.
- 3:58SPEAKER_00: Good jawline means good surgery.
- 3:59SPEAKER_00: If that line is clean, everything underneath it was put back where it belonged.
- 4:02SPEAKER_00: Here's the decision you can make this week.
- 4:04SPEAKER_00: If your neck is skin, go ahead and treat the skin.
- 4:06SPEAKER_00: You don't need a surgeon for that.
- 4:07SPEAKER_00: And I'd rather you spend the money there than with me.
- 4:09SPEAKER_00: If the fullness stayed where your chin went down or the cord stood up when you clenched, stop buying things aimed at layer one.
- 4:15SPEAKER_00: They can't reach where your problem lives.
- 4:16SPEAKER_00: And every month you spend on them is a month you're not solving.
- 4:19SPEAKER_00: If your neck went loose after you lost a ton of weight, that's its own situation.
- 4:22SPEAKER_00: I made a whole video about what happens in the face and neck after a GLP one.
- 4:25SPEAKER_00: Watch that video next.
- 4:27SPEAKER_00: Your neck really isn't a skin problem that everybody keeps failing to fix.
- 4:30SPEAKER_00: It's five layers, and yours is a specific one causing the trouble.
- 4:33SPEAKER_00: Go find out which one and hit subscribe on your way out.
