- 0:26Speaker 1: Hume day, but the Saints practice, which means we have
- 0:29Speaker 1: Ross Jackson. Oh man, you were too quick on the
- 0:34Speaker 1: trigger and we even practiced it. Muse and Ross Jackson? Ross?
- 0:41Speaker 1: What up?
- 0:41Speaker 2: Did my guy? Thanks for having me, glad to be here.
- 0:44Speaker 1: Yeah, what did you think?
- 0:46Speaker 2: I'm digging it. I'm digging it. Second time was better
- 0:48Speaker 2: than the first time. But I think you got that note.
- 0:50Speaker 1: It's helpful whenever the the producer doesn't drop it in
- 0:54Speaker 1: way too early while the host is still talk.
- 0:58Speaker 2: I love itat It's a great option one. I can't wait.
- 1:01Speaker 2: I can't wait to see what else we try.
- 1:03Speaker 1: I mean that feels well.
- 1:07Speaker 2: We had discussed a couple other ones last time. Were
- 1:10Speaker 2: we discussed one other one Jazzy Jappian thrown on that.
- 1:12Speaker 1: Oh yeah, and and we discussed, uh, we were.
- 1:17Speaker 2: On a break, that's right, yep, Yeah. We'd also do
- 1:21Speaker 2: buttered toasts from Ed ed Nettie. But I don't know
- 1:23Speaker 2: if anyone knows that reference.
- 1:25Speaker 1: Fantastic so good. I don't get it.
- 1:29Speaker 2: You gotta explain, uh, Ed ed Nettie cartoon back in
- 1:33Speaker 2: the day. There's one of the All three characters are
- 1:36Speaker 2: named some different variation of the name Ed. One of
- 1:39Speaker 2: them is a more like lumbering kind of dufist. He
- 1:43Speaker 2: had a thing and you have to tell me now
- 1:46Speaker 2: if I do the if I do the impression rate.
- 1:48Speaker 2: But he had a thing where every now and then
- 1:50Speaker 2: he would talk about buttered toast, but instead of saying
- 1:52Speaker 2: buttered toast, he would say buttered toast and it always
- 1:55Speaker 2: sounded kind of goofy, and it was great.
- 1:57Speaker 1: And why would you want that? Not that I'm opposed
- 1:59Speaker 1: to it, but why we draft that?
- 2:01Speaker 2: I kind of see myself as kind of a dufist
- 2:03Speaker 2: in a fun way, like a good If.
- 2:07Speaker 1: You want buttered toast, we can do buttered toast.
- 2:10Speaker 2: That's fine, dude, We can do some buttered toast. That's
- 2:14Speaker 2: the very very California Okay.
- 2:17Speaker 1: Anyway, Saints at practice on Wednesday after a day off,
- 2:21Speaker 1: what was the big takeaway?
- 2:23Speaker 2: Barry On Brown's stud Dude, Man, he is so fun
- 2:27Speaker 2: to watch and he has kind of eclipsed very quickly
- 2:31Speaker 2: the camp darling guy to just being a player that
- 2:35Speaker 2: now everybody's kind of wondering, like, oh, okay, now, how
- 2:38Speaker 2: do you take advantage of all of this in the
- 2:40Speaker 2: offense going into the regular season. He has been just
- 2:44Speaker 2: an awesome playmaker all the way through, everything from dominating
- 2:49Speaker 2: one on ones to putting together some you know, great catches. Uh.
- 2:54Speaker 2: In team drills the Saint stage sort of a simulated
- 2:58Speaker 2: two minute drill end of half type situation to where
- 3:01Speaker 2: they were. The offense was marching down the field down
- 3:04Speaker 2: three and Spencer Ratler was able to hit Berry on
- 3:07Speaker 2: Brown over on the right sideline. Brown slipped from under
- 3:11Speaker 2: the corner to be able to get the catch and
- 3:12Speaker 2: then picked up thirty six yards just flying down the
- 3:14Speaker 2: right sideline. I mean, this dude just keeps making plays
- 3:17Speaker 2: and he is easily the biggest takeaway from today.
- 3:19Speaker 1: If only he had a quarterback any of his four
- 3:21Speaker 1: years in college to throw it in football. I mean,
- 3:24Speaker 1: you thought we're gonna have it that last year with
- 3:25Speaker 1: nuss Meyer us got injured and Brown was still Elishu's
- 3:28Speaker 1: leading receiver. But can you imagine like the what if?
- 3:31Speaker 1: The other big thing I think that it was interesting
- 3:33Speaker 1: today was was Kella Moore talking about the injuries and
- 3:36Speaker 1: oh boy, Kendre Miller, he's got a back. I don't
- 3:41Speaker 1: want to overreact, but how can you not considering his history?
- 3:44Speaker 1: What do we know?
- 3:45Speaker 2: Yeah, look, the thing that we know is that it's
- 3:48Speaker 2: not considered a major injury. They're kind of to kind
- 3:51Speaker 2: of being described as, you know, tweaking his back, and
- 3:54Speaker 2: so they're just kind of taking it easy with him.
- 3:56Speaker 2: But you know, there's just there's no need to pretend, right,
- 3:58Speaker 2: I mean, running list of injuries throughout his career, and
- 4:04Speaker 2: the one thing that he needed to really really do,
- 4:06Speaker 2: or one of the things he needed to really really
- 4:08Speaker 2: do going into this year was not miss time due
- 4:10Speaker 2: to injury during training camp, and he did such a
- 4:13Speaker 2: great job over the course of the offseason dedicating himself
- 4:16Speaker 2: to rehabbing. He was at the facility almost every day,
- 4:19Speaker 2: or at least he was every day that he could
- 4:20Speaker 2: be there trying to come back from that ACL injury
- 4:23Speaker 2: that hit Week seven against the Bears, and then now
- 4:25Speaker 2: to get back out on the field, and then there'd
- 4:26Speaker 2: be another new injury. And that's the thing that's been
- 4:29Speaker 2: so interesting around kendreing is, you know, it's been MCL injury.
- 4:33Speaker 2: He had a calf and hamstring stuff, and then he
- 4:37Speaker 2: had the ACL injury, and then now it's a back injury.
- 4:40Speaker 2: It's just kind of all different things every time, and
- 4:43Speaker 2: so look, it might be minor, but it's going to
- 4:47Speaker 2: cast a shadow over what Kendre Miller's trying to do,
- 4:51Speaker 2: which has proved that he can be healthy, proved that
- 4:53Speaker 2: he can stay on the field and then get out
- 4:55Speaker 2: on the field because there's no question about the talent
- 4:57Speaker 2: when he's there. But he needed to answer a health
- 4:59Speaker 2: question this offseason and this isn't a great start.
- 5:02Speaker 1: Yeah, what about Christian Miller.
- 5:04Speaker 2: Yeah, Christian Miller dealing with it's a toe injury. Those
- 5:08Speaker 2: are always a little scary, I think, Yeah, I think
- 5:12Speaker 2: I think as Saints fans hearing toe injury, there's automatically
- 5:17Speaker 2: some trauma associated with that. But it sounds like this
- 5:21Speaker 2: one is maybe a minor thing at Kellen Moore described
- 5:24Speaker 2: it as a little toe situation, which I don't think
- 5:26Speaker 2: meant literally his little toe. I think it's to say
- 5:29Speaker 2: it's a small toe injury. But you know, he also
- 5:32Speaker 2: said he didn't have a lot of information yet, and
- 5:34Speaker 2: so there is a little bit of a we'll see
- 5:36Speaker 2: around it. But we did see him. He was out
- 5:38Speaker 2: on the field, he was there. He just didn't participate
- 5:40Speaker 2: in team drills and things like that. So maybe we'll
- 5:42Speaker 2: get a little bit more clarity on that going into
- 5:44Speaker 2: tomorrow's practice. But you know, certainly not I can take
- 5:49Speaker 2: much more, many more hits that defensive tackle or game.
- 5:53Speaker 1: Ross Jackson is with us at Ross Jackson NOLA. You
- 5:56Speaker 1: can read him for free Louisiana Sports Dode need. You
- 5:58Speaker 1: can listen or watch for free over at Locked on
- 6:01Speaker 1: Saints RUSS. What position battle or battles now almost a
- 6:07Speaker 1: week into camp are maybe starting to materialize?
- 6:12Speaker 2: Yeah, I think, you know, the QB two one, it
- 6:15Speaker 2: was an interesting one going in, but it's just been
- 6:17Speaker 2: so clear that Spencer Rattler is the better quarterback on
- 6:21Speaker 2: the football field right now. When it comes to that conversation,
- 6:24Speaker 2: I think there's a lot of value to Zach Wilson
- 6:27Speaker 2: and what he can bring from the experience in the
- 6:31Speaker 2: NFL and making your young quarterbacks better and everything that
- 6:34Speaker 2: he's got a clear ability to be able to do
- 6:36Speaker 2: that with his experience and with his knowledge and just
- 6:40Speaker 2: managing expectations things like that. But it's very, very clear
- 6:43Speaker 2: from a field standpoint that Spencer Rattler is the better
- 6:47Speaker 2: situation there when it comes to the performance, and so
- 6:50Speaker 2: I think that that is beginning to crystallize at this point.
- 6:53Speaker 2: I wouldn't be surprised if the Saints eventually start getting
- 6:56Speaker 2: some phone calls considering quarterback situations around the NFL. Certainly
- 6:59Speaker 2: they should get those phone calls because, like Spencer Ratler
- 7:02Speaker 2: was like really really strong here throughout the course of camp.
- 7:06Speaker 2: And then I guess the other place that I would
- 7:08Speaker 2: point would be the kicker competition, which continues to kind
- 7:11Speaker 2: of have this back and forth. It still feels like
- 7:14Speaker 2: Charlie Smith is in the lead, but we got to
- 7:15Speaker 2: see a lot more of Tanner Brown over the course
- 7:17Speaker 2: of today. He had three kicks today alone of fifty
- 7:20Speaker 2: plus or ecuse me, two kicks, No, it's right, three
- 7:22Speaker 2: kicks today of fifty plus yards. One from fifty four
- 7:26Speaker 2: or one for fifty two, one for fifty four, one
- 7:27Speaker 2: for fifty six. The one for fifty two was in
- 7:30Speaker 2: that two minute environment that they were working on at
- 7:34Speaker 2: the end of practice to where they had thirty seconds
- 7:36Speaker 2: left on the clock on a running clock and they
- 7:38Speaker 2: had to sprint the field goal unit out, so not
- 7:41Speaker 2: a lot of time to fit there, get lined up,
- 7:43Speaker 2: take a breath. All this this stuff really good display
- 7:45Speaker 2: from Tanner Brown to be able to get out there
- 7:48Speaker 2: and and drill that kick. And then linebacker is becoming
- 7:50Speaker 2: a really interesting one too, because we're watching guys like
- 7:53Speaker 2: Isaiah Stalbert and Jackson Sermon, who the same signed this awseason,
- 7:56Speaker 2: rotate a little bit. Now. Chris Rumph was an edge
- 7:59Speaker 2: rusher last year moved over to linebacker. They love what
- 8:02Speaker 2: Chris brought to this team last year from the special
- 8:03Speaker 2: team side of things. So it's going to create an
- 8:05Speaker 2: interesting conversation inside that linebacker room about who's that fourth, fifth,
- 8:09Speaker 2: potentially sixth linebacker. Is that you keep including the practice
- 8:12Speaker 2: squad spot or spots, and so those have been pretty
- 8:16Speaker 2: intriguing thus far.
- 8:17Speaker 1: We always ask about rookies and there's always a UDFA
- 8:20Speaker 1: somewhere along the line. That makes it any rookie draft
- 8:24Speaker 1: pick or UDFA outside of Barryon Brown that that's turning heads.
- 8:30Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean the Bryce Lance. The ball always seems
- 8:32Speaker 2: to find its way to him. It's clear that he's
- 8:35Speaker 2: somebody that these quarterbacks trust, particularly Spencer Rattler, because they
- 8:39Speaker 2: worked so much together in the second team. So he's
- 8:42Speaker 2: been somebody that's really kind of established. I think Lorenzo Styles,
- 8:46Speaker 2: who you know, ran a four two seven forty yard
- 8:49Speaker 2: dash with an injured labor HM at the combine, then
- 8:51Speaker 2: had laboram surgery and now he's already back. He's kind
- 8:54Speaker 2: of been operating as the third star slash slot player,
- 8:58Speaker 2: and when he gets his opportunity and one ones and
- 9:00Speaker 2: things like that, he tends to be very physical, play
- 9:03Speaker 2: for the whistle type, all those other things, always around
- 9:05Speaker 2: the ball, plays pretty well in those situations. Then you
- 9:08Speaker 2: add on top of what he can bring you on
- 9:10Speaker 2: the special team side, I think that he's somebody that
- 9:12Speaker 2: is working to really kind of gain some footing of
- 9:15Speaker 2: the coaching staff. And then from a u DFA perspective,
- 9:18Speaker 2: the numbers aren't gonna work in his favor just because
- 9:20Speaker 2: the Saints have so many edge rushers, but edge rusher
- 9:24Speaker 2: Mike Heldman out of Central Michigan. Yeah, I think that's
- 9:29Speaker 2: a chattanoogvideo there, But Central Michigan.
- 9:31Speaker 1: How dare you screw up your directional school?
- 9:34Speaker 2: I know, I know, I know it's something about Chippewa's
- 9:36Speaker 2: got me. But the you know, he's been somebody that
- 9:39Speaker 2: has just consistently shown up and made plays both in
- 9:42Speaker 2: the run game and in the passing game. And so
- 9:44Speaker 2: he's probably the UDFA that's that stood out the most
- 9:47Speaker 2: to me so far.
- 9:48Speaker 1: He's Ross Jackson at Ross Jackson Nola, Louisiana Sports dot
- 9:51Speaker 1: Net and locked on Saints get all his content there.
- 9:54Speaker 1: The let me tell you man, the uh the Saints
- 9:58Speaker 1: Camp observation piece that you write every day, I mean, man,
- 10:05Speaker 1: that is that is something. It is It is something.

- 10:12Speaker 1: time it takes to take the notes, write the notes.
- 10:15Speaker 1: I have had, I have had to edit the notes
- 10:17Speaker 1: before when i've when i've i've proof read it for
- 10:20Speaker 1: a publication. But it's awesome, it's great work. So make
- 10:22Speaker 1: sure you get it's always free over Louisiana Sports. One
- 10:24Speaker 1: that we appreciate man, Thank you.
