- 0:01Some years ago, there was a movie coming out of Hollywood
- 0:03that was based on the premise that someone was cursed with
- 0:07having to tell the truth at all times.
- 0:11The premise was developed as a comedy with the idea that rather
- 0:15than using flattering terms or avoiding any harsh statements,
- 0:19the individual would blurt out whatever thought or feeling
- 0:22occurred to him inwardly. The person involved was an
- 0:26attorney who had to defend clients in court, and thus the
- 0:29comedic plot was thickened even further.
- 0:33While honesty does not require people to simply spill their
- 0:36impressions, feelings, emotions or thoughts of the moment out in
- 0:41full at each moment, the story line made its point that we
- 0:45essentially live a life that at best hedges on full truth and at
- 0:50worst is purposely deceptive based on self-interest.
- 0:55If we turn our attention then to the question of spiritual
- 0:58practice by an individual, we can transfer the thought process
- 1:02behind this premise to our own lives, our own inner thoughts,
- 1:07motives, drives, feelings, emotions, desires and needs, and
- 1:13compare these to the pure self giving and consecration needed
- 1:18for the opening to the Divine and the transformation of our
- 1:21lives. The Mother presents a challenge
- 1:25to us to try this even for half an hour.
- 1:28We will soon recognize the ground that needs to be covered
- 1:31to become true doers of Divine works.
- 1:36The Mother notes quote fundamentally, whatever be the
- 1:41path 1 follows, whether the path of surrender, consecration,
- 1:45knowledge, if one wants it to be perfect, it is always equally
- 1:51difficult. And there is but one way, one
- 1:54only. I know of only one that is
- 1:58perfect sincerity. But perfect sincerity.
- 2:03Do you know what perfect sincerity is?
- 2:07Never to try to deceive oneself. Never let any part of the being
- 2:12try to find out a way of convincing the others.
- 2:15Never to explain favorably what one does in order to have an
- 2:19excuse for what one wants to do. Never to close one's eyes when
- 2:24something is unpleasant. Never to let anything pass,
- 2:27telling oneself that's not important.
- 2:30Next time it will be better. Oh, it is very difficult.
- 2:35Just try for one hour and you will see how very difficult it
- 2:39is. Only one hour to be totally,
- 2:42absolutely sincere, to let nothing pass.
- 2:47That is all one does, all one feels, all one thinks, all one
- 2:53wants is exclusively the divine. I want nothing but the divine.
- 3:01I think of nothing but the divine.
- 3:03I do nothing but what will lead me to the divine.
- 3:05I love nothing but the divine. Try, try, just to see.
- 3:12Try for half an hour. You will see how difficult it
- 3:16is, and during that time take great care that there isn't a
- 3:20part of the vital or a part of the mind or a part of the
- 3:24physical being nicely hidden there at the back, so that you
- 3:27don't see it. Mother hides her hands behind
- 3:31her back and don't notice that it is not collaborating, sitting
- 3:36quietly there so that you don't unearth it.
- 3:39It says nothing, but it does not change.
- 3:42It hides itself. How many such parts, How many
- 3:47parts hide themselves? You put them in your pocket
- 3:50because you don't want to see them, or else they get behind
- 3:53your back and sit there well hidden, right in the middle of
- 3:57your back, so as not to be seen. When you go there with your
- 4:01torch, your torch of sincerity, you ferret out all the corners
- 4:07everywhere, all the small corners which do not consent,
- 4:11the things which say no, or those which do not move.
- 4:16I am not going to budget. I am glued to this place of
- 4:19mine, and nothing will make me move.
- 4:22You have a torch there with you, and you flash it upon the thing,
- 4:27upon everything. You will see there are many of
- 4:30them there behind your back, well stuck.
