- 0:13Speaker 1: relationships metter member FDI see here's nearside celebrating good side
- 0:20Speaker 1: bicker Flower O.
- 0:23Speaker 2: My well, Phil, I just want to kind of just
- 0:25Speaker 2: go back with this as a refresher. And I remember
- 0:27Speaker 2: a while back you mentioned guys like Olaf Colsey, Marc
- 0:30Speaker 2: Andre Fleury, how influential that they've been. What is it
- 0:34Speaker 2: that you admire about how they kept their careers active,
- 0:37Speaker 2: the older they got in, the more years that they
- 0:39Speaker 2: put up in this league.
- 0:40Speaker 3: I think they're the older you get, the herder it
- 0:42Speaker 3: becomes right, like you see the shift in the league
- 0:46Speaker 3: now versus like when when those guys play or Flowers
- 0:49Speaker 3: just retired, but like when oldie Colesey played right, the
- 0:51Speaker 3: game game was a little bit different, a little bit
- 0:54Speaker 3: more north south, and like now you have all this skill.
- 0:58Speaker 3: So definitely, I think it's a little bit harder now
- 1:01Speaker 3: because the trend of the league is turning a little
- 1:04Speaker 3: bit younger. So I think it's even harder to stay
- 1:06Speaker 3: in this league. But yeah, you got to keep your
- 1:10Speaker 3: body and your mind going and make sure you're on
- 1:12Speaker 3: top of your game and be the best version of
- 1:16Speaker 3: yourself and the gym and off the ice, and make
- 1:19Speaker 3: sure you prepare yourself one hundred percent to give one
- 1:22Speaker 3: hundred percent out there on the ice.
- 1:23Speaker 2: That's a great point because they often say that it
- 1:25Speaker 2: is getting faster, especially in the last few years. So
- 1:27Speaker 2: how much has that affected your conditioning and how much
- 1:31Speaker 2: you know yoga and stretching that you're going through adding
- 1:34Speaker 2: on here for a routine basis.
- 1:35Speaker 3: It's not so much like the yoga stuff and the conditioning.
- 1:39Speaker 3: It's more like, how can you change your game? Do
- 1:42Speaker 3: you need to play as aggressive as like is it?
- 1:45Speaker 3: What does the situation like give you can be a
- 1:47Speaker 3: little bit more patient? Can you back up? Can you
- 1:49Speaker 3: gain or like grab a little bit more ice? Sometimes
- 1:52Speaker 3: it's it's not so much like off the ice, it's
- 1:55Speaker 3: more so on the ice.
- 1:56Speaker 2: What do people need to know about a goalie, coach
- 1:59Speaker 2: and a guy like on Zulianello that they can't usually
- 2:02Speaker 2: see on a usual basis.
- 2:03Speaker 3: Well, we watch a lot of film, right, we watch
- 2:06Speaker 3: a lot of like we go out, have goalie eyes.
- 2:10Speaker 1: Every day we.
- 2:10Speaker 3: Work on small little details that make maybe a huge
- 2:14Speaker 3: difference in the game. So Zuli has been awesome. He's
- 2:16Speaker 3: been awesome at communicating and then us know we have
- 2:20Speaker 3: three goalies to see, it's a unique situation. So I
- 2:22Speaker 3: think like he's he's done an unbelievable job love communicating
- 2:28Speaker 3: with us with what's going on. And then it's it's
- 2:31Speaker 3: pretty interesting because you got to find time to get
- 2:33Speaker 3: like enough shots in practice if you're not playing right.
- 2:37Speaker 3: So he's done a great job for us.
- 2:39Speaker 2: In what way has he been a good communicator?
- 2:42Speaker 3: Well, just in terms of what's going on, like how
- 2:45Speaker 3: what the plan is for the next next game? Right,
- 2:47Speaker 3: like Matt is unfortunately injured, but like if you're three goalies,
- 2:50Speaker 3: like what the rotation would look like who's playing right?
- 2:53Speaker 3: So it's been been good.
- 2:54Speaker 2: What's the best piece of advice that a coach ever
- 2:57Speaker 2: gave you about a game day routine?
- 2:59Speaker 3: Now you put me on the spot. It's just so
- 3:02Speaker 3: many different different Yeah, I don't know. I couldn't pin
- 3:06Speaker 3: point one. Every every coach has like different philosophy. So
- 3:10Speaker 3: lastly it was a little bit more do whatever you
- 3:12Speaker 3: need to do is to stop the puck. Uh they
- 3:14Speaker 3: see it's a little bit more detail oriented and uh yeah,
- 3:19Speaker 3: in the end, we're just playing a game. We're playing
- 3:22Speaker 3: a game to entertain in the end, like it's it's
- 3:26Speaker 3: not yes, it's our lives, but there's more to it
- 3:29Speaker 3: than than hockey.
- 3:30Speaker 2: How much have you admired the fan base and how
- 3:32Speaker 2: much they have really gripped on through about five years
- 3:34Speaker 2: in Seattle.
- 3:35Speaker 3: It's been amazing. I mean, like Seattle is known for
- 3:37Speaker 3: their sports, and even seeing the women's women's game here
- 3:42Speaker 3: last week or this week sold out, it's amazing. That
- 3:45Speaker 3: speaks for the fans and speaks for for Crack and
- 3:48Speaker 3: fans like how they supported us, and uh yeah, it's
- 3:52Speaker 3: it was seemed like in the playoffs we drew attention
- 3:55Speaker 3: and more and more people started to watch and enjoy hockey,
- 3:58Speaker 3: and it was amazing feeling like seeing that from the city.
- 4:02Speaker 3: It's being a.
- 4:03Speaker 2: Little busier these days now with the PWHL team. They're
- 4:06Speaker 2: real and they've got residents not too far away, just
- 4:08Speaker 2: down the hallway. What were your initial impressions of watching
- 4:11Speaker 2: them when they first started up.
- 4:13Speaker 3: Yeah, it's amazing, like speaks for Seattle, like it's what
- 4:16Speaker 3: we're missing. I think we're just missing an NBA team now,
- 4:19Speaker 3: but like you have almost every major sports in the
- 4:24Speaker 3: city and such amazing fan base and seeing the women's
- 4:29Speaker 3: move into the building and filling that place is like
- 4:33Speaker 3: it's crazy. It's super specially and gives girls in the
- 4:37Speaker 3: area around us like an opportunity that they can play
- 4:41Speaker 3: more than just like college hockey.
- 4:42Speaker 2: If I can go further outside the glass on this one,
- 4:44Speaker 2: what's the craziest bus ride that you've ever taken in
- 4:47Speaker 2: the minor leagues coming up or back in the OHL
- 4:49Speaker 2: My first road trip.
- 4:51Speaker 3: And I got when I played in the East Coast
- 4:53Speaker 3: League when I was eighteen nineteen. It was a nineteen
- 4:57Speaker 3: day bus trip. I didn't know back then like what
- 5:00Speaker 3: and how the schedule and how everything would look like
- 5:04Speaker 3: I've never been down there. Nobody really said anything, but
- 5:06Speaker 3: I got down there. We left Charleston, South Carolina, eleven PM,
- 5:11Speaker 3: drove through the night, got to the next city at
- 5:13Speaker 3: like nine thirty in the morning, had a little breakfast
- 5:17Speaker 3: at the rings, skated for morning skate. And it was
- 5:20Speaker 3: a nineteen day. We did this almost like every day.
- 5:23Speaker 3: Drove through the night, slept on the bus, and then
- 5:26Speaker 3: played the next day and then left the city again.
- 5:28Speaker 3: So I think that was one of the most memorable moments.
- 5:31Speaker 3: I didn't I was a rookie back then, so I
- 5:33Speaker 3: didn't have my own bed on the bus, so I
- 5:35Speaker 3: was just sleeping on the front of us like setting
- 5:38Speaker 3: up the whole night. Not that I ever want to
- 5:41Speaker 3: do that again, but that was the most memorable part
- 5:44Speaker 3: for me.
- 5:44Speaker 2: I think guys who tried to actually manufacture their own
- 5:47Speaker 2: cot to the very back of the bus back at
- 5:48Speaker 2: the EHL days, what's the most creative way that you've
- 5:50Speaker 2: seen the guy try to get a good nine sleep
- 5:53Speaker 2: on the bus.
- 5:53Speaker 3: I mean guys bring like their own like phone pads
- 5:56Speaker 3: and like pillows and stuff. There's some guys who played
- 5:59Speaker 3: like cards, and even our team, like we have like
- 6:01Speaker 3: a six hour flight from Tampa or somewhere in New
- 6:04Speaker 3: York back to Seattle, and guys are just playing like
- 6:06Speaker 3: cards all the time. So I don't know those guys
- 6:09Speaker 3: can do it, but yeah, you get creative, like definitely
- 6:13Speaker 3: with cardboards and phone pads and trying to fill the
- 6:17Speaker 3: space so I can get a little comfortable there.
- 6:19Speaker 2: Finally, I want to get onto this last part where
- 6:21Speaker 2: your heart is a lot off the ice. What's the
- 6:23Speaker 2: updates so far on safe these days? And the money
- 6:25Speaker 2: raise as well, it's been amazing.
- 6:27Speaker 3: They bought a new place, which is pretty cool. They
- 6:31Speaker 3: can call the new facility to own. They're not renting anymore.
- 6:35Speaker 3: They're moving up to Malpi, so that's that's amazing. A
- 6:38Speaker 3: little bit more space, a little bit more opportunity to
- 6:41Speaker 3: take on more horses if the need is there, and
- 6:44Speaker 3: it's it's been a pleasure helping and getting the word
- 6:49Speaker 3: out and just being there whenever I have a free
- 6:52Speaker 3: time and can be there and like help out and
- 6:55Speaker 3: talk to people there, and so it's been amazing that
- 6:57Speaker 3: you're
