0:52
SPEAKER_03: I don't know.
0:54
SPEAKER_09: It gets the point across, which I think is the most important part.
0:57
SPEAKER_09: I've missed you a lot too, Dave, and I'm really glad that we're able to do this.
1:00
SPEAKER_03: This is a whole new experience.
1:01
SPEAKER_03: So we don't want to get too specific on where you're at.
1:04
SPEAKER_03: You're just in Japan.
1:05
SPEAKER_03: Did we decide it's West Coast or East Coast?
1:08
SPEAKER_09: You were on the East Coast yesterday, currently I'm on the East Coast today, but I took a little day trip to the West Coast yesterday.
1:15
SPEAKER_03: That is so freaking cool.
1:18
SPEAKER_09: It was so cool.
1:19
SPEAKER_09: Yes.
1:20
SPEAKER_09: I but we'll get all into that.
1:21
SPEAKER_03: Alright, well, listen, uh I'm I I've been doing things a little bit differently, and I'm not sure you approve yet, but I'm gonna start with one of the first songs that you sent me.
1:29
SPEAKER_03: This is from brand new, or the name of the song is brand new, and it's by Mrs.
1:33
SPEAKER_03: Green Apple.
1:35
SPEAKER_09: Right?
1:36
SPEAKER_09: Yes.
1:36
SPEAKER_09: Um, we're gonna be doing Japanese songs today.
1:38
SPEAKER_09: Just kind of a random.
1:39
SPEAKER_03: It doesn't sound Japanese.
1:43
SPEAKER_09: Well, you know, it's very similar to America, where like we like to put their kanji and katakana on t-shirts because it looks cool.
1:51
SPEAKER_09: They like to also use English because they think it looks cool.
1:54
SPEAKER_09: Um this is brand new by Mrs.
1:57
SPEAKER_09: Green Apple.
1:58
SPEAKER_09: It is the number one song on Japanese Spotify right now.
2:00
SPEAKER_09: So I thought it would be a cool way to start.
2:02
SPEAKER_03: Alright, well, let's let's try it and uh we'll we'll get through the technical difficulties no matter what.
2:07
SPEAKER_03: I know I've been that's the big thing.
2:09
SPEAKER_03: I mean, Mr.
2:09
SPEAKER_03: Green, I don't know how to work this part.
2:11
SPEAKER_03: And you know, I trained you on this part, but I've gotten so lazy with it, I don't I don't know how to work it anymore.
2:18
SPEAKER_09: That makes me feel good.
2:19
SPEAKER_09: Because when I come back, you're gonna appreciate me just that much more.
2:22
SPEAKER_03: Even more, that's right.
2:23
SPEAKER_03: Here we go.
5:54
SPEAKER_01: International.
5:55
SPEAKER_01: But now we've got people on location! At least we got random Japan.
6:00
SPEAKER_01: David, he's well, he's sitting there at the microphone at home.
6:05
SPEAKER_01: Waiting for her to call in.
6:07
SPEAKER_01: It's time for the wake-up call exclusively on KSJ.
6:11
SPEAKER_01: And all over the world at Interwest Concepts.com!
6:32
SPEAKER_05: Santo Shite Tara Shin Tarakeno Shiny Okino Kenon Denshawi Solette Bokeh.
7:38
SPEAKER_05: Asaké Doki Nuketara Garantoshita Moshini Tatoshina Kush te nona seurete bokeh mo casé oh me t'es.
9:12
SPEAKER_05: Gara sûr, noshini m'a tellement kiné t'as no seu hazanete, car que t'aimes des côtés, I'm having so much fun, you just have no idea really.
10:21
SPEAKER_03: Oh, let's see, I think I'll oh I hold on, I turned you down, now you're back up by Yeah, you gotta make sure that the people back at home can hear me.
10:30
SPEAKER_03: Well, listen, first of all, that song was the first song was brand new, and you we kind of just you described it, but this one and I and I'm looking at it right here and I can't read the name of the tune.
10:42
SPEAKER_03: So I'm so glad you sent me an interpretation.
10:45
SPEAKER_03: Uh that that was Catch the Wind, and the name of the band was uh the uh Happy End.
10:51
SPEAKER_03: It was a 1970s rock group, is that right?
10:55
SPEAKER_09: Yes, they were kind of like at the time for Japan Japanese music, they were kind of avant-garde.
11:00
SPEAKER_09: They were really influenced by Western rock music, so they kind of brought that style over to Japan.
11:07
SPEAKER_09: So I thought that was a cool little time capsule of the song.
11:10
SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it's a great dude.
11:12
SPEAKER_03: I um well I'm enjoying this uh so far it is kind of I don't know, we're we may try something on the break that might be a little that might be helpful for you and I both.
11:22
SPEAKER_03: Um we ended up we're so people know it's um she can't hear the music.
11:28
SPEAKER_03: All she can hear it and see is I picked the music, but I can't hear it.
11:35
SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and so I'm giving her some uh sign language signals and so this would have been a good one to go live on for sure.
11:44
SPEAKER_03: Live video for sure.
11:46
SPEAKER_03: All the programs are used up on my laptop.
11:48
SPEAKER_03: I don't care.
11:49
SPEAKER_03: There's no way I can do it.
11:51
SPEAKER_09: Well, this is fun too.
11:53
SPEAKER_09: Uh it's definitely a new experience.
11:55
SPEAKER_09: And you know, if the in the future, if you travel somewhere or I travel somewhere again, um hopefully we'll have all the kinks worked out.
12:02
SPEAKER_09: I think maybe I shouldn't bring attention to it, but I thought it was funny.
12:05
SPEAKER_09: Um I messaged you thinking that that would be more um low-key.
12:12
SPEAKER_09: But people might have heard the d or something.
12:15
SPEAKER_03: So it's funny because I messaged you too.
12:20
SPEAKER_03: I messaged you, but mine didn't do that.
12:22
SPEAKER_03: But I think I have mine on Do Not Disturb or something, so it doesn't.
12:25
SPEAKER_03: But that means that you shouldn't have gone through either.
12:28
SPEAKER_03: I don't know.
12:28
SPEAKER_03: That is bizarre.
12:30
SPEAKER_03: Listen, I Well We're making we're making magic happen.
12:34
SPEAKER_09: We're making magic happen.
12:35
SPEAKER_09: That's all you need to know.
12:36
SPEAKER_03: I I just am so happy.
12:37
SPEAKER_03: The wake-up call is on the road for sure.
12:40
SPEAKER_03: Uh and this is way beyond any Willie Nelson song.
12:43
SPEAKER_03: Uh being on the road again.
12:46
SPEAKER_03: And it's a first, it's a first you're in another country, you're on the other side of the continent.
12:53
SPEAKER_03: And I just I don't know.
12:54
SPEAKER_03: It is just it's awesome.
12:56
SPEAKER_09: Now my question I was just gonna say, uh, you know, even oh man, twenty years ago, you probably couldn't have made this happen this way.
13:07
SPEAKER_09: So this is the future, baby.
13:11
SPEAKER_03: That's right.
13:12
SPEAKER_03: You heard it here first.
13:18
SPEAKER_03: Well listen, it's been kinda and I and I and I kind of alluded to it uh via text, and it was and it's really great actually seeing your face.
13:27
SPEAKER_03: This is the first time I've actually seen you and even like talked like this to you.
13:31
SPEAKER_03: We've been doing texting back and forth.
13:34
SPEAKER_03: But uh has it been six weeks now?
13:36
SPEAKER_03: I think or five, six weeks.
13:39
SPEAKER_09: Yeah, it's been far too long.
13:40
SPEAKER_09: At least over a month.
13:41
SPEAKER_09: I don't think I saw you for all of June.
13:43
SPEAKER_03: No, maybe maybe not.
13:45
SPEAKER_03: No, uh the la we did a couple weeks.
13:48
SPEAKER_03: We did the first two weeks.
13:50
SPEAKER_03: And and then you Yeah.
13:51
SPEAKER_03: And I was gonna I was gonna do some more than I thought.
13:54
SPEAKER_03: No, I'm just gonna give her some time to go and then boy am I sorry.
13:57
SPEAKER_09: I know.
14:00
SPEAKER_09: And our our our meetings, our recording sessions are very grounding.
14:05
SPEAKER_09: So it's it's it's grounding that I get to see you all the way over here in Japan.
14:09
SPEAKER_03: I know, it's very cool.
14:10
SPEAKER_03: It's really cool.
14:11
SPEAKER_03: And I w I I got a lot of things in the work on work, so when you get back in August, uh when you're back, I mean you're back the first week in August, but about I think the second or third week, guess what I'm gonna do?
14:25
SPEAKER_03: What?
14:26
SPEAKER_09: Put your butt in a intrepid girl reporter.
14:34
SPEAKER_09: Intrepid lady reporter.
14:35
SPEAKER_09: I'm not so much a girl anymore, but Ryan Dungeon with a report.
14:38
SPEAKER_03: I'm more of a Oh, go ahead.
14:43
SPEAKER_09: I'm more of a lady now rather than just a girl.
14:46
SPEAKER_09: Oh, absolutely.
14:48
SPEAKER_03: Yeah, absolutely.
14:48
SPEAKER_03: Well, Ryan Dungeon with uh Desert River Guides has offered to let you get in the raft again, and so I'm very excited for that because it was a great time, and we've got new equipment coming so that we can hear everything.
15:00
SPEAKER_03: Because that last show we had a hard we heard you fine, but we Ryan, I I got kind of melted out, but I've got lapel mics coming, I have all of that.
15:08
SPEAKER_03: I've been working with the fine folks in Sweetwater.
15:10
SPEAKER_03: You're gonna be able to be heard, she's gonna be able to be heard.
15:13
SPEAKER_03: We're just gonna have a good time.
15:15
SPEAKER_03: And if they get you know, I I d if they if you if you if you guys accidentally get dumped in the water well, that's just five hundred dollars down the drain.
15:24
SPEAKER_03: But no pressure, right?
15:28
SPEAKER_09: No, not at all.
15:29
SPEAKER_03: Not at all.
15:29
SPEAKER_03: Well listen, I you picked all this music, I'm loving it.
15:32
SPEAKER_03: I'm glad you told me that when you sent me a text on what the name of the song was, because I just looked at it and it's it's like a bunch of little squiggly lines happing in.
15:41
SPEAKER_09: Yes.
15:43
SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
15:44
SPEAKER_09: Um, it's funny not even being able to recognize the the written language here.
15:53
SPEAKER_09: You know, I should be able to learn it.
15:56
SPEAKER_09: The fun fact that they teach you when you're learning all the different writing systems here is that Japan has a literacy rate of 99%.
16:04
SPEAKER_09: So if they can do it, you can do it.
16:06
SPEAKER_09: But boy, it's it's easier said than done.
16:09
SPEAKER_09: It's you know, you go to you go to a Spanish-speaking country or a French-speaking country, you can kind of suss out what certain words mean not here.
16:18
SPEAKER_09: So I'm at the mercy of the kind, very kind people that have been helping me through, you know, the convenience stores and the other stores I've been visiting.
16:27
SPEAKER_09: It's it's been a whirlwind.
16:29
SPEAKER_03: Well, we're gonna talk more and more about that because we kind of touch bass about that kind of stuff as well.
16:33
SPEAKER_03: Plus, I want to talk about my all-time favorite thing, which is sushi, which you and I do every once in a while on a Saturday.
16:40
SPEAKER_03: So we'll we'll talk more about that too.
16:42
SPEAKER_03: But let's get into another song.
16:43
SPEAKER_03: This is another one.
16:44
SPEAKER_03: Rin has picked all of these out.
16:46
SPEAKER_03: This one I can read.
16:47
SPEAKER_03: This is brand new love.
16:49
SPEAKER_03: And it's uh The Pillows?
16:51
SPEAKER_03: Is that right?
16:52
SPEAKER_09: The Pillows, yes, brand new love song by The Pillows, one of my all-time favorites.
16:57
SPEAKER_09: I've been listening to it since I was a teenager.
17:00
SPEAKER_03: Oh s oh, sweet.
17:01
SPEAKER_03: All right, well, listen, here's this is a song that Rin has some history with.
17:04
SPEAKER_03: Here we go.
17:05
SPEAKER_03: Let's get it on.
21:25
SPEAKER_01: Well, turn it up and share it with the neighbors.
21:53
SPEAKER_08: That's a nickel, that's the nickname.
24:36
SPEAKER_03: Wow, that ended quick.
24:40
SPEAKER_03: Yeah, sorry.
24:42
SPEAKER_03: Yeah, no, that's my I wasn't really paying attention, but it was kind of cool.
24:46
SPEAKER_09: Well, you've got a lot going on.
24:48
SPEAKER_09: Now you know how I feel when I'm on the board.
24:50
SPEAKER_09: There's so much going on.
24:52
SPEAKER_03: You know, I kept telling, I kept telling Sarah did a great job.
24:55
SPEAKER_03: She's been filling in for you as well.
24:57
SPEAKER_03: And of course, Ken, who I you know I have extreme history with.
25:01
SPEAKER_03: Um but yeah, it's been interesting to say the very least.
25:06
SPEAKER_03: The very least.
25:07
SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
25:08
SPEAKER_03: And um it's so funny because I get I'm I've gotten so frustrated with it all.
25:13
SPEAKER_03: And I was the one that trained you on it.
25:16
SPEAKER_03: And I know I don't even know how to use it.
25:19
SPEAKER_09: It's been so long.
25:20
SPEAKER_09: So Well, then you outsourced all of the work to me.
25:24
SPEAKER_09: So I mean that once again makes me feel good because I've been doing I've been I've been doing a good job where you don't even have to worry about it anymore.
25:32
SPEAKER_03: Well, that's what I told Ken.
25:33
SPEAKER_03: I said, at least all these shows are gonna the the editing uh not the editing, we don't edit, but the the the different the the the song starting and the endings and it's all gonna suck because I ran I can't remember how to use this board and it's all set for real.
25:49
SPEAKER_03: Well listen, I want to talk really quick because I I I I know there's all kinds of I have a million and one questions and we don't have enough time on the whole show for you to answer them all.
25:58
SPEAKER_03: But let's first of all let's talk about we sushi.
26:01
SPEAKER_03: So there's uh like sushi everywhere over there, or is it not like it is sushi?
26:07
SPEAKER_09: Well, you know, sushi is like it's it's like hamburgers in America.
26:12
SPEAKER_09: It's not the only thing to eat, but it's pretty common and pretty beloved.
26:17
SPEAKER_09: Um, I went to a really cool uh conveyor belt sushi restaurant called Hama Sushi, where you sit at your table and you have a little iPad and you just order what you want on the iPad, and then there's a little tiny conveyor belt right next to your table that just shoots the food out to you.
26:38
SPEAKER_09: It's so flipping cool, and it was delicious.
26:40
SPEAKER_09: Like, no surprise here.
26:43
SPEAKER_09: It's the best sushi I've ever had in my entire life, the sushi I've had in Japan.
26:46
SPEAKER_03: But also, you know, water is wet.
26:48
SPEAKER_03: So well, I was gonna say Japan is surrounded by water, so it is in New Mexico.
26:54
SPEAKER_03: Now come on, it's the freshest sushi is gonna be shipped in, right?
26:58
SPEAKER_03: There is like you know, it's caught and it's you're probably eating it within an hour after it's been caught.
27:03
SPEAKER_03: So it's a it's it's a big difference.
27:05
SPEAKER_03: Big, big difference.
27:07
SPEAKER_09: It's it's very cool.
27:09
SPEAKER_09: Um I've tried some other food too, ramen, obviously.
27:12
SPEAKER_09: Um the ramen here is the best, it's fresh.
27:15
SPEAKER_09: And you know, in America, we definitely think of ramen as like struggle food food, like the food you eat when you don't have a ton of money, but properly made ramen is really delicious and filling and good for you because it's got a lot of vegetables in it.
27:28
SPEAKER_02: Yes.
27:29
SPEAKER_09: So ramen's been really good.
27:31
SPEAKER_09: And I've also had some uh convenience store food, which is you know, in America, convenience store food is all just junk food.
27:41
SPEAKER_09: But here in Japan, you can get like curry, you can get pork cutlet over rice, you can get these delicious sandwiches with like the softest bread you've ever had.
27:51
SPEAKER_09: Convenience store food here in Japan is.
27:53
SPEAKER_03: Holy crap.
27:54
SPEAKER_09: Yes.
27:55
SPEAKER_09: Oh, they call it the conbini, and um it's it's just so good.
28:00
SPEAKER_09: If you've ever heard anybody hype up a Japanese con beanie, believe the hype because they're so good here.
28:08
SPEAKER_03: Well, it's absolutely phenomenal, and I love the music that you picked out.
28:12
SPEAKER_03: We're gonna have some more uh for next segment.
28:15
SPEAKER_03: We gotta break coming up here in just a little bit.
28:18
SPEAKER_09: But did we say what the last song was?
28:21
SPEAKER_03: I don't think so.
28:22
SPEAKER_03: Uh, because I can't read it.
28:23
SPEAKER_03: It was Perfume is the artist.
28:26
SPEAKER_09: It was it was Perfume, which is another group I really like, and they're they're pretty popular out here.
28:32
SPEAKER_09: Um that song, the English translation is Love Me Naturally.
28:36
SPEAKER_09: And I'm not exactly sure what they're singing about, but it sounds nice, doesn't it?
28:41
SPEAKER_09: Yes, it does.
28:42
SPEAKER_03: I like Love Me Naturally.
28:44
SPEAKER_03: All right, Rand, stand by.
28:46
SPEAKER_03: Uh and we're gonna try I think we're gonna do a little bit of a different button.
28:49
SPEAKER_03: We're gonna take a break.
28:50
SPEAKER_03: We'll be back, all right?
28:51
SPEAKER_03: Stick with me, Randy.
28:52
SPEAKER_03: We'll be back.
29:34
SPEAKER_00: And now for something completely different.
29:37
SPEAKER_00: The wake-up call on KSJE.
30:12
SPEAKER_08: Yami Waiki Wahi so met the Koto Baga Mitsukara na iga, sai go Shit Mina Shitana Sidney, sang Ninashi Tanas Otagai Gomakashi Amoaya Burikai Homo Utabi Kutaiga Mitzaranai Utahashira.
35:07
SPEAKER_03: Nine seconds.
35:09
SPEAKER_03: I'm I'm live.
35:10
SPEAKER_03: I'm live.
35:11
SPEAKER_03: I'm I'm or am I Mimorex?
35:13
SPEAKER_03: Who knows for sure?
35:15
SPEAKER_03: Who knows for sure?
35:16
SPEAKER_03: And Ren, I gotta turn you on somehow or another.
35:18
SPEAKER_03: I had you on here somewhere.
35:20
SPEAKER_03: Where is you?
35:21
SPEAKER_03: There you is.
35:22
SPEAKER_03: Talking about we kind of change things out a little bit.
35:27
SPEAKER_03: Uh welcome into the second half of the program.
35:29
SPEAKER_03: Ren is uh uh W U C.
35:31
SPEAKER_03: It's on K S J E.
35:33
SPEAKER_03: And my traveling friend Ren is in.
35:37
SPEAKER_09: And my I'm in Japan, and I was gonna say my stay-at-home buddy Dave.
35:44
SPEAKER_03: Yeah, well, that's a real snooze fest.
35:46
SPEAKER_09: But you know, it is well, there's something cool about you know staying at home during the summer too.
35:55
SPEAKER_09: You can have a comfy fun summer because as fun as this journey has been, it has certainly been a journey.
36:02
SPEAKER_08: Yes.
36:02
SPEAKER_09: Um getting here, I traveled uh a little over twenty-eight hours total with all the planes, trains, and automobiles to get here.
36:12
SPEAKER_09: The flight itself was like 10 hours, but you know, everything surrounding that was like 18 hours.
36:19
SPEAKER_03: Well, listen, um before I forget, that last that last song was called 4 a.m.
36:25
SPEAKER_03: You'll have to say the name of the room.
36:28
SPEAKER_09: Uh is by an artist named Keiko Onuki.
36:32
SPEAKER_03: Keiko?
36:35
SPEAKER_03: Like even closer to it.
36:36
SPEAKER_03: Keiko?
36:36
SPEAKER_03: Teiko.
36:37
SPEAKER_03: Keiko Onuki.
36:39
SPEAKER_03: Almost like Taco, but it's Teiko.
36:43
SPEAKER_09: I'm about to make a joke about that.
36:46
SPEAKER_09: Take O.
36:47
SPEAKER_09: Like Take Out, but without the There you go.
36:50
SPEAKER_03: There you go.
36:51
SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
36:52
SPEAKER_09: And that is like a a Japanese city pop classic, and that's kind of a throwback to one of our most popular shows, the Japanese City Pop Show.
37:01
unknown: Yeah.
37:01
SPEAKER_03: And and and it is that is the our third most downloaded show.
37:06
SPEAKER_03: Yeah, third most downloaded show.
37:08
SPEAKER_03: Um the show that Sarah did, her first one, the Meet Sarah show, she's knocking on the door too.
37:15
SPEAKER_03: She's that show's getting up there, which I you know I'm excited about.
37:19
SPEAKER_03: That's pretty cool.
37:20
SPEAKER_09: Nice.
37:25
SPEAKER_03: Oh, that's kind of scary.
37:29
SPEAKER_09: Well, I don't I'm I'm uh I don't think I could ever be replaced.
37:36
SPEAKER_09: I it's cool that people are excited though, because sometimes when you bring in a new host, people can be kind of resistant to it.
37:43
SPEAKER_09: So it's good that she's being accepted and celebrated.
37:45
SPEAKER_09: So I love it.
37:46
SPEAKER_03: Well, listen, I want to know a little bit more about Japan.
37:49
SPEAKER_03: Um and what I'm what comes to mind for me is one of the questions that I thought about that I was gonna ask you in the first segment when it came out.
37:58
SPEAKER_03: But what have you found that's the most fascinating or interesting?
38:05
SPEAKER_09: The most fascinating or most interesting thing about Japan Um The mix of tradition and modernity.
38:15
SPEAKER_09: So much of Japan is fueled by their history, their natural their um their traditions, um, yet they are living in the future at the same time.
38:28
SPEAKER_09: Like uh you still have to take your shoes off whenever you enter certain buildings, you know, not to make mess, but also it's a tradition.
38:36
SPEAKER_09: Um so much of their their cities um and signs are based on traditional art, but then they have these cool little gadgets that you just can't find in America.
38:51
SPEAKER_09: Um everybody's got a little mini fan that they can fan themselves off with.
38:55
SPEAKER_09: I guess you could find that in America, but everybody really embraces technology at the same time.
39:01
SPEAKER_09: I sent you a picture, one of my favorite little things that I found is the mini drip coffee.
39:07
SPEAKER_09: I know, that's really cool.
39:09
SPEAKER_09: That's cool.
39:10
SPEAKER_09: Yeah, it's like a little bag.
39:12
SPEAKER_09: Excuse me.
39:13
SPEAKER_09: It's like a little bag that clips on to your coffee cup and you pour hot water over it, and then you've got a single cup of fresh drip coffee.
39:21
SPEAKER_09: It's like amazing.
39:22
SPEAKER_03: It's like a paper strainer that you click over to the top of your cup and put the grounds in.
39:27
SPEAKER_09: Yeah, almost like a pour-over coffee coffee, but a little quicker.
39:32
SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it's fascinating, absolutely fascinating.
39:35
SPEAKER_03: Alright, so what are the It's very cool.
39:37
SPEAKER_03: Well, we probably ought to get this song.
39:39
SPEAKER_03: Let's we'll do we'll do a couple of songs and come back, and I want you to be thinking about what is the favorite food that you've tried over there.
39:45
SPEAKER_03: I know you've done a lot of sushi.
39:46
SPEAKER_03: Okay, but yeah, let's talk about you know, because I'm a food guy.
39:51
SPEAKER_09: I'll try I'll try to think of something other than sushi and ramen because everybody knows sushi and ramen.
39:55
SPEAKER_03: Yeah, but there is something about the ramen because I eat ramen from a uh the Hawaiian talk place here, and it's completely different than you buy at the grocery store.
40:05
SPEAKER_03: It's it's it's to me it's probably more traditional than uh normal.
40:09
SPEAKER_03: Alright, so this next song uh is it's all it's all uh in Japanese.
40:16
SPEAKER_03: I almost said scrimming, but that sounds disrespectful because it it is lettering, but I can't I can't read it, and I can't it's it's a whole other different and it's extremely complex, their writing system.
40:28
SPEAKER_09: So you know, it's interesting as an American, it does kind of look like little pictures, but each each symbol has its own different meaning.
40:38
SPEAKER_08: Right.
40:38
SPEAKER_09: But this one's essentially Love Circulation by Kana Hanazawa, and it is a very sweet, fluffy Kana Hanazawa, and it's a very sweet, fluffy anime classic.
40:53
SPEAKER_09: It's from an anime, and it's it's very famous, not only in Japan, but in America, because I know a lot of Americans you know it.
41:01
SPEAKER_03: Alright.
41:02
SPEAKER_03: I started it.
41:03
SPEAKER_03: We're off and rolling.
41:09
SPEAKER_03: I started over the top.
41:10
SPEAKER_03: I thought there was an intro on it, but I was mistaken.
41:19
SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I do it it's not it wasn't too bad.
41:39
SPEAKER_02: This is really so cool.
41:45
SPEAKER_02: Are you sleepy?
41:51
SPEAKER_08: Well, let me ask you, I'm gonna go.
42:46
SPEAKER_06: Nakano batasina son cannot matan Unaikutum, but it's gonna I'm gonna use the mutuman by matonate, my maton.

48:35
SPEAKER_03: I think I even have you turned on now.
48:37
SPEAKER_03: I think I got everything going properly.
48:39
SPEAKER_03: I don't know.
48:39
SPEAKER_03: Speak to me.
48:40
SPEAKER_09: Okay.
48:41
SPEAKER_09: We can only we can only hope, right?
48:44
SPEAKER_03: Well, for some reason yeah, no, you're there, I guess.
48:46
SPEAKER_03: Yeah, you're there.
48:46
SPEAKER_03: I'm sorry, my bad.
48:47
SPEAKER_09: They can hear me?
48:48
SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
48:48
SPEAKER_09: Okay.
48:48
SPEAKER_09: Good, good.
48:49
SPEAKER_03: Well, I I got the green line jumping up there too, so we're we're good to go.
48:54
SPEAKER_09: Okay, so yes.
48:56
SPEAKER_03: And you know we'll just roll with it.
48:57
SPEAKER_03: You know, the thing I like about this most, what I'm thinking is so like if if I go on a trip somewhere, we could call in and do the show this the same way for sure.
49:06
SPEAKER_03: And and and if you go somewhere, yeah, somewhere.
49:09
SPEAKER_03: Fantastic.
49:10
SPEAKER_03: All right, well, do you know much about that last song I just played?
49:13
SPEAKER_03: Because I'd really love the artwork on the covers for that thing.
49:16
SPEAKER_09: It's very cool.
49:17
SPEAKER_09: Um, that was overdose by Natori.
49:20
SPEAKER_09: Um, and frankly, I don't know too much about the artist or the song.
49:24
SPEAKER_09: I just know that it's one that's over the last couple of years been pretty popular in Japan.
49:29
SPEAKER_09: So that's why I picked it.
49:31
SPEAKER_09: It was on a playlist of famous Japanese songs.
49:33
SPEAKER_03: So I'll dog it a lot.
49:37
SPEAKER_03: Alright, so we were gonna I I I don't remember what I was gonna ask you about during this break.
49:42
SPEAKER_09: Um, um, very rocky, as you can imagine, volcanic, very volcanic.
49:54
SPEAKER_09: And we saw some really cool rock formations off of the coast, and um me and my buddy we went snorkeling in some wild areas.
50:03
SPEAKER_09: Hopefully, um you can show a picture or something on Facebook.
50:09
SPEAKER_09: Where were you gonna post it to?
50:10
SPEAKER_03: Yeah, probably Facebook, yeah.
50:13
SPEAKER_09: Yeah, just just really pretty scenery.
50:17
SPEAKER_09: Um, I saw some fish, I saw some sea slugs, um, I saw some anemones.
50:22
SPEAKER_09: It was it was a good time.
50:24
SPEAKER_03: Oh wow.
50:24
SPEAKER_09: Well I'm very exhausting though, I'm very sleepy today.
50:27
SPEAKER_03: The first day that you were there, uh or the second day, um uh you sent me a picture of you and your buddy and uh those kimonos or yes.
50:38
SPEAKER_09: Okay, so they were having we just managed to catch this little event they were doing where you could they dress you up in a kimono and then they'd take your pictures.
50:50
SPEAKER_09: Um so now I have I th it's probably gonna be the only picture that I personally post on Facebook because I'm kind of private, but um, it's the one I'm most proud of of me and my friend um dressed up in kimonos.
51:03
SPEAKER_09: That was really cool.
51:04
SPEAKER_09: And it was so interesting having them dress me up because they were speaking Japanese around me, and I could only catch little bits and pieces, but I I heard her say kawaiyo, kawaiiyo, which means you're cute.
51:19
SPEAKER_09: And I was like, uh, I got that's cool.
51:24
SPEAKER_03: Well, I I am gonna use it for our cover art for this show because it just I think it's very, very fitting.
51:31
SPEAKER_03: But um also probably maybe a a picture of Japan and uh a map or something, because it just I don't know.
51:37
SPEAKER_09: Yeah, maybe we could make a little collage or something.
51:39
SPEAKER_03: Yeah, something.
51:40
SPEAKER_03: We'll figure something out.
51:41
SPEAKER_03: But yeah, but and and this is uh I believe if I'm not mistaken, this is the 26th of July.
51:49
SPEAKER_03: So that you know.
51:51
SPEAKER_09: Good to good to know because it's we're like a day ahead here.
51:56
SPEAKER_03: Well, you're yeah, you guys are in the future.
51:59
SPEAKER_03: You are seven hours, what do we figure?
52:01
SPEAKER_03: Seven hours in the future or eight hours in the future?
52:04
SPEAKER_09: It was something like honestly, I think like thirteen or fourteen hours.
52:07
SPEAKER_03: Well, maybe that's what it was.
52:09
SPEAKER_03: I I don't remember, but I do well let's see.
52:11
SPEAKER_09: Because what time is it there for you?
52:13
SPEAKER_09: Right now it's uh six p.m.
52:15
SPEAKER_09: for you.
52:15
SPEAKER_03: Yeah, six.
52:17
SPEAKER_09: Then it is nine a for me.
52:19
SPEAKER_09: Oh day in the future.
52:21
SPEAKER_03: Yeah, there you go.
52:23
SPEAKER_03: So yeah.
52:24
SPEAKER_03: About 13 hours.
52:25
SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
52:27
SPEAKER_03: Fascinating is all gonna.
52:28
SPEAKER_03: So you're in the future.
52:29
SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it's really cool.
52:30
SPEAKER_03: Yeah, back to week back to the future.
52:33
SPEAKER_03: She's gone.
52:36
SPEAKER_03: Well, listen.
52:37
SPEAKER_03: That's a good one.
52:37
SPEAKER_03: Alright, so you talked a little bit more about the uh the West Coast that you went to and visited.
52:41
SPEAKER_03: Um again, too, but we need to do a song and moving on.
52:47
SPEAKER_09: Oh, you were gonna ask me too what my favorite food has been.
52:50
SPEAKER_03: Yeah, let's do that right now.
52:52
SPEAKER_03: What was your favorite food?
52:55
SPEAKER_09: Okay, other than ramen or sushi, oh my gosh.
52:59
SPEAKER_09: Okay, I'm gonna go I'm I'm gonna give you two answers, weirdly enough.
53:03
SPEAKER_09: One is I had this cream cake, which was like a little like the softest, spongiest cake you've ever tasted, um, wrapped around some like dense whipped cream.
53:17
SPEAKER_09: And you know, here they don't put high fructose corn syrup in anything.
53:21
SPEAKER_09: So everything has like real sugar in it, real flavors.
53:24
SPEAKER_03: It's supposed to be healthier.
53:26
SPEAKER_09: It is supposed to be.
53:27
SPEAKER_09: And it's still sugar, right?
53:28
SPEAKER_03: Sure is sugar, but it's a whole lot better than fructose corn syrup.
53:33
SPEAKER_09: Definitely, yeah.
53:34
SPEAKER_09: Um, but it was like a milk cream cake, and that I'm gonna be dreaming about that for the rest of my life.
53:40
SPEAKER_09: And weirdly enough, I think I've had the best hamburger in my entire life being here.
53:46
SPEAKER_09: We went and got smash burgers.
53:48
SPEAKER_09: Yes, we went and got smash burgers at a place called Big Bad Burger.
53:54
SPEAKER_09: And uh, I got the Oklahoma onion burger, and it was so good.
54:00
SPEAKER_09: And you know, it kind of makes sense because they um it's it's not traditional food in Japan.
54:07
SPEAKER_09: That's like, you know, foreigner food.
54:09
SPEAKER_09: So you you would imagine that they would embrace it and um go about it in a very technical, traditional way.
54:18
SPEAKER_09: You know what I mean?
54:19
SPEAKER_03: All right, well listen, I gotta cut you off.
54:20
SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna get the song.
54:21
SPEAKER_03: So hold that thought.
54:22
SPEAKER_03: Okay, go ahead.
54:24
SPEAKER_03: We're gonna probably have to finish with this song and be done.
54:27
SPEAKER_03: So Rin Rant's coming up.
54:28
SPEAKER_03: Fair enough.
54:29
SPEAKER_03: Not rant, uh Zenarin's coming up.
54:32
SPEAKER_09: Zen a Ren.
57:25
SPEAKER_08: Oh, let me guys, let me buy some fears.
57:38
SPEAKER_01: We all have a certain amount of Zen.
57:41
SPEAKER_01: Ren has it oozing out her fingers and toes, and as the show winds down, here is the Zen of Ren.
57:52
SPEAKER_09: Nana Korobi.
57:53
SPEAKER_09: Yeah, okay.
57:55
SPEAKER_09: Fall down seven times, but get up eight times.
58:01
SPEAKER_09: Try, try, try again.
58:05
SPEAKER_03: My microphone wasn't even on.
58:07
SPEAKER_03: I had pointed to you.
58:08
SPEAKER_03: So all of that talking, I don't know if they ever heard anything I said.
58:12
SPEAKER_03: But I'll be so glad when you're back.
58:14
SPEAKER_03: I'm not gonna You you filled in fine, we're good to go.
58:16
SPEAKER_03: I'm not gonna worry about it.
58:17
SPEAKER_03: And I probably came through on some of the computer.
58:19
SPEAKER_03: Who knows?
58:20
SPEAKER_03: I don't care at this point.
58:21
SPEAKER_03: I'm just glad we got to this part of the show.
58:25
SPEAKER_09: Hey, we're we're trying something new and it's working out, so I'm happy with it however it turns out.
58:31
SPEAKER_03: Yeah, uh so far it it really it sounds good.
58:33
SPEAKER_03: Now, my my I'm thinking I would like to go on record and say, but you know, I think we're probably one of the first podcasters to ever do something like this.
58:43
SPEAKER_09: Except I I don't know.
58:45
SPEAKER_09: I'm sure other people have done it, but we're the first, probably in Farmington, to do it.
58:48
SPEAKER_03: Well, there you go.
58:49
SPEAKER_03: Well, listen, Ren.
58:50
SPEAKER_03: Safe travels to you, my dear.
58:52
SPEAKER_03: I miss you uh uh uh dearly, you have no idea.
58:55
SPEAKER_03: And I look forward to having you guys.
58:57
SPEAKER_03: Same here.
58:57
SPEAKER_03: But I am so proud and uh it's just nice for you to do that.
59:01
SPEAKER_03: It makes me feel so good inside.
59:03
SPEAKER_03: So wish you the best.
59:04
SPEAKER_03: Oh, thank you.
59:05
SPEAKER_03: Uh give your friend a big hug from me if you would, please, and tell her uh thank you for allowing you, giving me a few minutes of your time while you're while you're over there.
59:13
SPEAKER_03: So okay.
59:14
SPEAKER_03: Absolutely.
59:15
SPEAKER_03: All right, love you, buddy.
59:16
SPEAKER_03: I love you too.
59:17
SPEAKER_03: We're out of here.
59:17
SPEAKER_03: We'll see you guys next week.
59:20
SPEAKER_01: Well, shoot, over already?
59:22
SPEAKER_01: No need to panic.
59:23
SPEAKER_01: Ren and David will be back next week.
59:26
SPEAKER_01: Same WUC time, same WUC station.
59:36
SPEAKER_01: I'm Zeb McCluskey.
59:38
SPEAKER_01: And until next time, excellent talk to each other.
59:42
SPEAKER_08: Oh, wait a way, you're clear and wear.
