- 0:19Speaker 3: How'd you like to have a chance to win a
- 0:20Speaker 3: pair of tickets to see Sarah Silverman January fifth at
- 0:24Speaker 3: ACL Live.
- 0:26Speaker 4: Here's what you do.
- 0:27Speaker 3: You download the iHeartRadio app if you don't already have
- 0:31Speaker 3: it on your smartphone. Then you search AM thirteen hundred
- 0:34Speaker 3: the zone and then you'll see two buttons on there.
- 0:36Speaker 3: There's a white one to listen to the programs. Here
- 0:39Speaker 3: on the station, there's a red button with a little
- 0:41Speaker 3: white microphone in. You tap that red button with the
- 0:44Speaker 3: white microphone and that activates our talk back feature and
- 0:48Speaker 3: you leave us a voice message up to thirty seconds.
- 0:50Speaker 3: It's a little voice message saying, hey, I heard the
- 0:52Speaker 3: keyword on the radio for trying to win the tickets
- 0:56Speaker 3: for Sarah Silverman. Today's keyword easy Silverman. It's that easy.
- 1:01Speaker 3: So all I have to do is just say I
- 1:03Speaker 3: heard the keyword Silverman, and then you'll be entered into
- 1:08Speaker 3: the drawing to try to win a pair of tickets
- 1:10Speaker 3: to see Sarah Silverman. So there you go with that.
- 1:13Speaker 3: All right, Let's let's hear some more from Loggorn's head
- 1:16Speaker 3: coach Steve Sarkasian, And somebody asked him about this whole thing.
- 1:24Speaker 3: Is there a concern about how the College Football Playoff
- 1:30Speaker 3: Committee views it views Texas as to whether they're quote
- 1:33Speaker 3: unquote winning ugly and how do you define ugly ball?
- 1:38Speaker 4: And does it make it more difficult?
- 1:40Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 1:40Speaker 5: First of all, a ton of respect for coach Stops.
- 1:42Speaker 5: I think his teams are coached really, really well, very
- 1:46Speaker 5: sound football teams in all three phases.
- 1:51Speaker 1: You know, they're gonna they're gonna grind.
- 1:52Speaker 5: You out defensively, and then they're going to grind you
- 1:55Speaker 5: out offensively. And when they get their opportunities in the
- 1:58Speaker 5: fourth quarter, they're gonna take their shots at you. And
- 2:00Speaker 5: I think that's what happened in the Old Miss game.
- 2:02Speaker 5: They tried their best in the in the Georgia and
- 2:04Speaker 5: Tennessee games to do the same. But a ton of
- 2:08Speaker 5: respect me very talented defensive football team. These guys have
- 2:12Speaker 5: NFL guys all over the place, so heck of a
- 2:14Speaker 5: challenge for us, all right.
- 2:16Speaker 3: Next up, he was asked about Alfred Kyle, or actually
- 2:21Speaker 3: about his offense, the numbers would reveal it. He was
- 2:24Speaker 3: our friend Eric Henry who pointed this out. The numbers
- 2:27Speaker 3: in terms of a total number of explosive plays are
- 2:31Speaker 3: very close to last year, and so does he feel
- 2:36Speaker 3: this year's offense is as explosive as last year's If.
- 2:39Speaker 5: The numbers say that, sure, you know, you know, we're
- 2:42Speaker 5: just trying to move the football. We're trying to win games.
- 2:44Speaker 5: We're trying to do what's necessary to win games. You
- 2:47Speaker 5: know what I was super impressed with with our offense
- 2:50Speaker 5: Saturday In the fourth quarter. We had to have a
- 2:53Speaker 5: drive and we and we was a three point game.
- 2:56Speaker 5: We needed a drive and we needed execution. They did that.
- 2:59Speaker 5: We got turnover six point fifty five left to go
- 3:02Speaker 5: in the game. We need to possess that ball the
- 3:04Speaker 5: rest of the game.
- 3:05Speaker 1: They did that.
- 3:06Speaker 5: Like so, as much as we want to look at
- 3:08Speaker 5: explosive plays and all those kinds of things, and that's
- 3:10Speaker 5: great offenseive football, it's about execution in the moment and
- 3:14Speaker 5: what we're trying to accomplish. And I think that's something
- 3:17Speaker 5: that this offense is doing at a really high level.
- 3:19Speaker 1: They are managing games in a way.
- 3:23Speaker 5: That is putting us in position to be successful, and
- 3:27Speaker 5: we're creating explosive plays too, you know when that time comes.
- 3:30Speaker 1: But I was that fourth quarter offensively.
- 3:34Speaker 5: I couldn't have been more proud of those guys in
- 3:36Speaker 5: the way that they managed the opportunity that they had.
- 3:40Speaker 3: All Right, So there's that now a question about Alfred
- 3:43Speaker 3: Collins and that climb up not only to having that
- 3:49Speaker 3: consistent level of play, but also play making like causing
- 3:52Speaker 3: the fumble on Saturday and tipping both passes that got
- 3:55Speaker 3: intercepted in the Florida game, those types of things, and
- 4:00Speaker 3: what role Kenny Baker, the new defensive line coach, may
- 4:02Speaker 3: have played in all.
- 4:03Speaker 5: This, Like anything, you know, with opportunity comes responsibility, and
- 4:07Speaker 5: I think Alfred has assumed the responsibility of the opportunity.
- 4:13Speaker 5: Vernon is the same way. You know, they're both playing
- 4:15Speaker 5: at a really high level. It sometimes it's more difficult
- 4:20Speaker 5: to remain consistent when you know, oh, well, I'm gonna
- 4:24Speaker 5: get my you know, ten twelve, fifteen plays. But when
- 4:26Speaker 5: you know you're getting counted on for thirty five forty
- 4:29Speaker 5: plays a game, you tend to lean into. I got
- 4:35Speaker 5: to do all the little things right, and whether it's
- 4:37Speaker 5: your hands whether it's your footwork, whether it's fitting to
- 4:39Speaker 5: run a certain way, staying in your gap, whatever that
- 4:42Speaker 5: looks like. And so I think Alfred sees the moment
- 4:46Speaker 5: and sees the opportunity, and you know, totally like I
- 4:52Speaker 5: can't tell you guys enough. I know I'm speaking a
- 4:54Speaker 5: lot on because I'm reminiscing on a lot of these
- 4:56Speaker 5: guys and knowing its senior day, but like so proud
- 4:59Speaker 5: of him from where he's come.
- 5:02Speaker 1: To get to this point.
- 5:03Speaker 5: And I remember doing press conferences, you know, three four
- 5:08Speaker 5: years ago talking about Alfred.
- 5:10Speaker 1: What's the issue with Alfred Well, consistency.
- 5:12Speaker 5: All of a sudden, now we have a really consistent
- 5:15Speaker 5: player who's very talented, and he's making a lot of
- 5:17Speaker 5: plays for US.
- 5:18Speaker 4: Okay, continuing with the defense. John A.
- 5:23Speaker 3: Baron, of course, had that tough decision to make whether
- 5:27Speaker 3: to return for a six season. It will surely pay
- 5:30Speaker 3: dividends for him having a Thorpe Award type of season.
- 5:35Speaker 3: I would be shocked if he's not a finalist for
- 5:37Speaker 3: it and have to be considered one of the leading
- 5:40Speaker 3: contenders for the Thorpe Award. And so he was asked
- 5:43Speaker 3: about when Jeanne made the decision to come back. What
- 5:48Speaker 3: was the biggest thing area where you wanted to see
- 5:50Speaker 3: him improve.
- 5:51Speaker 5: Well, obviously it was the move to corner, right, and
- 5:55Speaker 5: we're going to move you to corner and make this
- 5:57Speaker 5: a kind of a full time deal and then use
- 5:59Speaker 5: your versus and nickel and dime and those types of
- 6:02Speaker 5: things that present themselves, and his commitment to that I
- 6:07Speaker 5: think has been one of the more impressive things of
- 6:10Speaker 5: like understanding, Hey, I'm gonna go play corner, I'm gonna
- 6:14Speaker 5: do it at a high level. When I go play
- 6:16Speaker 5: dime and linebacker, I'm gonna blitz, I'm gonna do those
- 6:19Speaker 5: things that I do well. But he's a it's an
- 6:23Speaker 5: awesome example of I'm talking about Alfred, I'm talking about
- 6:26Speaker 5: John a. Like, you stick around our program and you
- 6:29Speaker 5: and you stay committed to what we're doing, You're gonna
- 6:32Speaker 5: reap the benefits of this. And I think John a
- 6:35Speaker 5: Is is a great example of that. And I'm so
- 6:39Speaker 5: proud of him too. Like I know I'm kind of
- 6:42Speaker 5: a broken record on some of this stuff with these guys,
- 6:44Speaker 5: but I'm very proud of him. For it's one thing
- 6:47Speaker 5: to come back, it's another to come back and then
- 6:49Speaker 5: put forth the effort and the work and the leadership
- 6:52Speaker 5: that he has, and it's showing.
- 6:54Speaker 1: You know, it's paying off for him.
- 6:56Speaker 3: Here's the quickest answer to a question of the news
- 6:59Speaker 3: conference all see long. He was asked if he thought
- 7:02Speaker 3: Quinn Yours would be playing his final college home game
- 7:04Speaker 3: on Saturday.
- 7:05Speaker 1: No idea.
- 7:11Speaker 3: I forgot who asked that.
- 7:14Speaker 2: I don't know his name, but he writes for Lone
- 7:16Speaker 2: Star Life. Okay, Josh Newman. Okay.
- 7:22Speaker 3: The thing about that is, even if Josh's intimation is
- 7:28Speaker 3: that Quinn is going to leave after this season, it
- 7:31Speaker 3: still not might not be his final home game, like
- 7:33Speaker 3: we said it could. They could wind up playing on home
- 7:35Speaker 3: playoff game there as well. So that's why it would
- 7:39Speaker 3: also be impossible at this point to say for certainty
- 7:45Speaker 3: whether it is his final home game. If you watch
- 7:50Speaker 3: the Sunday NFL game, and I had it on my laptop,
- 7:54Speaker 3: but it was in the arena, so I didn't get
- 7:56Speaker 3: a chance to it. Now, Cam, which play was it
- 7:59Speaker 3: that Kansas City ran SARS played? Was it the counter reverse?
- 8:03Speaker 2: It was the seven misdirection snaps, Yeah, Isaiah Bond that
- 8:07Speaker 2: he ran for about forty yards?
- 8:09Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, that counter reverse play, okay, and.
- 8:11Speaker 2: It was exaper' worthy who actually was who took the
- 8:14Speaker 2: role of Isaiah Bond on that misdirection.
- 8:16Speaker 3: And so he was asked, you know, did that give
- 8:19Speaker 3: him a little bit of pride knowing that Andy Reid
- 8:23Speaker 3: actually copied a Texas play for an NFL game.
- 8:28Speaker 5: I've copied way more plays from Andy, from Andy Reid
- 8:31Speaker 5: than Andy Reid's ever copied from some from Steve Sarkisian.
- 8:35Speaker 5: So they he they do great stuff, you know, and
- 8:39Speaker 5: but hey, we're in this world of now more than
- 8:43Speaker 5: ever on Twitter, and plays are everywhere and diagnosed, and
- 8:49Speaker 5: you know, why did they do this and that? And
- 8:52Speaker 5: you know, for us to have Andy Reid run our
- 8:56Speaker 5: play the first play of the games, hey, that that's
- 8:59Speaker 5: kind of cool. But like I said, man, we've copied
- 9:02Speaker 5: way more plays from Andy Reid than Andy Reid's ever
- 9:04Speaker 5: copied from us.
- 9:06Speaker 4: That's fair to say that.
- 9:10Speaker 3: And then after that, he was asked about tracking his
- 9:17Speaker 3: team tracking to be the number one total defense in
- 9:22Speaker 3: the country and what meaning that might carry.
- 9:24Speaker 1: I love it, you know that.
- 9:26Speaker 5: I think it's a mentality, right, and it's the way
- 9:29Speaker 5: that we go about our business. And I think the
- 9:31Speaker 5: defensive players will probably tell you, and you guys have
- 9:33Speaker 5: to ask them. But I'm very connected to those guys,
- 9:36Speaker 5: I don't, you know, I don't just gravitate to the offense.
- 9:40Speaker 5: And that's easy to do, right and I'm over there,
- 9:42Speaker 5: I'm calling the place and whatnot. But I'm really I
- 9:46Speaker 5: probably have better, you know, to some degree, better relationships
- 9:50Speaker 5: with the defensive players on our team then sometimes the
- 9:53Speaker 5: offensive players because I go overboard to make sure that
- 9:56Speaker 5: I have those relationships. And so to watch those guys
- 10:00Speaker 5: the way they're playing right now, I'm, like I said,
- 10:03Speaker 5: very proud of them, very proud of our coaching staff
- 10:05Speaker 5: of what they're doing. And they're doing it at a
- 10:09Speaker 5: high level. And you know, we talked a lot of
- 10:13Speaker 5: this season going into it about getting the ball back,
- 10:15Speaker 5: and then what they're doing at such a high level
- 10:18Speaker 5: of getting the ball back and taking the ball back
- 10:20Speaker 5: for our offense. They're stopping the run, they're minimizing the
- 10:24Speaker 5: explosive plays, they're getting after the quarterback. They're just doing
- 10:27Speaker 5: a lot of really cool things, and they're doing it
- 10:29Speaker 5: in a way where they're celebrating it with one another,
- 10:32Speaker 5: and that's that's a joy to watch as well.
- 10:34Speaker 3: All right, well, here's some more from Sar coming up
- 10:36Speaker 3: next hours. We continue on Sports Radio AM thirteen under
- 10:39Speaker 3: the zone of the iHeartRadio app.
