Speaker 4: Neither could our guests and neither could I get so
• 1:08
  Speaker 4: we'll explain later.
• 1:09
Speaker 3: But okay, But and Christy Martin, who we've had on
• 1:17
Speaker 3: before her new show comes out.
• 1:20
Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, and it's exciting.
• 1:25
Speaker 3: It really is. And and we were hoping to have
• 1:28
Speaker 3: her on to kind of talk about it.
• 1:32
Speaker 4: She's in New York City, stuck in.
• 1:35
Speaker 3: And obviously we don't really want her to be driving
• 1:39
Speaker 3: and trying to talk.
• 1:40
Speaker 4: That not the place to do that.
• 1:43
Speaker 3: But I'm going to start out with can.
• 1:46
Speaker 4: We play the clip? Oh? Yeah, yeah, we've got a
• 1:48
Speaker 4: movie trailer to play.
• 1:51
Speaker 5: You must be the lady I've been hearing so much
• 1:53
  Speaker 5: about it.
• 1:56
Speaker 3: Yes, sir, you're the world champion right now.
• 2:00
Speaker 5: You think you would make me go, but one day
• 2:08
Speaker 5: you're going to make up and realize that it turns
• 2:11
  Speaker 5: just fine without.
• 2:15
Speaker 3: How funny you are, like famine too. I am worried
• 2:20
  Speaker 3: about you.
• 2:22
Speaker 6: I Parson stopping what stuffs half my life? Hadding, that's
• 2:34
Speaker 6: my house, that's my jo.
• 2:42
Speaker 4: There's no Crystal Martwood him.
• 2:44
Speaker 3: Believe me, I'll kill you.
• 2:49
Speaker 4: What do we have to do? Oh?
• 2:53
Speaker 3: Boy, ladies and gentlemen, have I got a street for you?
• 3:01
Speaker 4: I couldn't get much out of that clip, but you
• 3:03
Speaker 4: kind of get the idea. It's very suspenseful.
• 3:05
Speaker 3: Well yeah, yeah, yeah, And there was a there was
• 3:08
Speaker 3: a a piece in there that that caught my attention.
• 3:14
Speaker 3: If you leave, I'm gonna kill you. I that the
• 3:18
Speaker 3: history of it, right, And I think and again, one
• 3:23
Speaker 3: of the one of the interesting things that I when
• 3:27
Speaker 3: I when I think about Christy and I think about
• 3:30
Speaker 3: her as it relates to West Virginia athletes as a whole,
• 3:37
Speaker 3: how many athletes is the foundation basically of their sport.
• 3:47
Speaker 3: Randy Moss is great, possibly the greatest athlete to ever
• 3:50
Speaker 3: come out of West Virginia. Sure, but he didn't create
• 3:54
Speaker 3: you know, he's not the face of football. Sure, you know,
• 3:59
Speaker 3: you know, you have you know, you have Michael Jordan,
• 4:03
Speaker 3: you have these people. But and I'm not saying she
• 4:07
Speaker 3: has to be as big as Michael Jordan or anybody
• 4:11
Speaker 3: that you could take in basketball, football or whatever. But
• 4:16
Speaker 3: what does it take, What does it take to be
• 4:21
Speaker 3: the person who actually gives the breath of life to
• 4:27
  Speaker 3: a sport?
• 4:27
Speaker 4: And that's the perfect way to put it. I love
• 4:29
Speaker 4: the way you said that, because she basically this young
• 4:33
Speaker 4: girl from a small town in West Virginia, she basically
• 4:38
Speaker 4: changed the face of women's boxing.
• 4:40
  Speaker 3: Yes, And.
• 4:43
Speaker 4: Just to think that someone thought enough of her story
• 4:47
Speaker 4: and beyond just the story of her really making an
• 4:50
Speaker 4: impact on women's boxing as a sport, her life, her
• 4:54
Speaker 4: her story behind the scenes, just makes your jaw it's
• 4:59
  Speaker 4: jaw dropping.
• 5:00
  Speaker 1: Yeah.
• 5:00
Speaker 3: And again if you're listening, if you listen to that
• 5:03
Speaker 3: clip in the opening, you know there's some there's some
• 5:08
Speaker 3: there's some verbies. Yes, you know, this is her life.
• 5:14
Speaker 3: This is the life that she lived. Wow, she is
• 5:20
Speaker 3: doing her sport, her boxing.
• 5:22
  Speaker 4: Yes, you know.
• 5:23
Speaker 3: Now you could say, okay, well maybe that's motivation, Da
• 5:25
Speaker 3: da da da. But I know sports, and I know
• 5:29
Speaker 3: if your mind's not in it, yeah, you can't do it.
• 5:33
Speaker 3: And how do you switch from being physically abused at home? Right?
• 5:40
Speaker 3: I mean, and you can make the case that, okay,
• 5:41
Speaker 3: she she's taking it out on somebody else. I don't really,
• 5:45
Speaker 3: I don't really see it like that.
• 5:47
Speaker 4: I think in the case of Christy, she's such a
• 5:50
Speaker 4: strong woman and having her in the studio with Champ
• 5:53
Speaker 4: her dog, it was just an amazing experience. I'll never
• 5:56
Speaker 4: forget it. But just to hear her speak in her
• 6:00
Speaker 4: and her calmness, uh, you just can't imagine what she's
• 6:04
Speaker 4: capable of in the ring. First of all, right, you
• 6:08
Speaker 4: don't think she could be like that, but but she
• 6:10
Speaker 4: she's a she's just this incredible person. And to think
• 6:13
Speaker 4: what she went through besides having the career in boxing.
• 6:18
Speaker 4: To think what she went through, like we said, behind
• 6:20
Speaker 4: the scenes with her ex husband, Uh, it just it
• 6:23
Speaker 4: just it boggles the mind. And like also her trainer, Yes,
• 6:28
Speaker 4: he was the one that promoted her, trained her, and
• 6:31
Speaker 4: then they eventually got married. Yes. So so all of
• 6:34
Speaker 4: that she had to overcome and endure to to be
• 6:39
Speaker 4: who she is today. And and I think that's what's
• 6:42
Speaker 4: such such a fascination of her story, and especially for
• 6:47
Speaker 4: her to tell it's even even more awesome. But to
• 6:49
Speaker 4: go into a theater and people don't know I think
• 6:53
Speaker 4: they know her name, and they know that what she
• 6:55
Speaker 4: did for women's sports, but they have no idea what
• 6:58
Speaker 4: she endured behind the scenes, you know, as far as
• 7:03
Speaker 4: really just partner violence. I mean it was just domestic
• 7:06
Speaker 4: violence that she endured and almost died.
• 7:09
Speaker 3: And again, I mean, we've had some great athletes coming
• 7:14
Speaker 3: out of West Virginia, yes, and and you can make
• 7:18
Speaker 3: the case that each one of them has a story
• 7:22
Speaker 3: of what they went through to get wherever they sure
• 7:27
Speaker 3: were able to whatever they were able to achieve. But
• 7:31
Speaker 3: somebody looked at her story, right and said, hmmm, yeah,
• 7:38
Speaker 3: this is this is this is difference.
• 7:40
Speaker 4: This is film worthy.
• 7:40
Speaker 3: Yeah, this is film worthy. And again I don't care
• 7:44
Speaker 3: what who who, I don't care what you think about
• 7:48
Speaker 3: it as a as a whole. If you watch it
• 7:50
Speaker 3: and you're like, oh this this that it's bigger than you. Oh,
• 7:55
Speaker 3: it's bigger than how you feel about the quote, the
• 7:59
Speaker 3: quality of it. It is about. This is somebody's life, absolutely,
• 8:04
Speaker 3: you know, and I think that, regardless, is bigger than
• 8:09
  Speaker 3: anything else.
• 8:10
Speaker 4: Right, And just the storyline, I mean, going from like
• 8:13
Speaker 4: I said, going from finding you know, her her niche
• 8:16
Speaker 4: in life. You know, at the beginning when she decided, Hey,
• 8:18
Speaker 4: this is what I want to do. I want to box,
• 8:20
Speaker 4: then ending up under Don King's wing for a while,
• 8:25
Speaker 4: fought Lala Laila Ali right uh, and then toward the
• 8:30
Speaker 4: end whenever she was famous and she was you know,
• 8:34
Speaker 4: going through her career and doing all these amazing things
• 8:37
Speaker 4: for her husband. You know, I don't want to be
• 8:39
Speaker 4: a spoiler alert, but I mean, you know he basically
• 8:41
Speaker 4: he basically tried to kill her. Yeah, when she she
• 8:44
Speaker 4: tried to leave him. So the whole storyline is fascinating.
• 8:47
Speaker 4: You guys, if you have an opportunity this weekend to
• 8:50
Speaker 4: hit the theaters and go see it. Like we said,
• 8:52
Speaker 4: the premiere is on Friday, and she's actually having a
• 8:56
Speaker 4: red carpet event in Beckley at the Marquis Cinema where
• 9:00
Speaker 4: she will be in person there. Now, I don't know
• 9:02
Speaker 4: if Sidney Sweeney will be there. Now, if Sidney's gonna
• 9:04
Speaker 4: be there, I'm gonna make that track right, No, I'm
• 9:07
Speaker 4: just kidding, but but I mean I know for a
• 9:09
Speaker 4: fact that she will be there, uh here home in
• 9:12
Speaker 4: West Virginia, and I think that's pretty special to come
• 9:14
Speaker 4: home for a theatrical release that's going to be She
• 9:17
  Speaker 4: could go anywhere.
• 9:19
Speaker 3: And again that speaks volumes to me, yes, because she's
• 9:24
Speaker 3: not just quote a great West Virginia athlete that was
• 9:30
Speaker 3: the greatest at her sport. Sure, she could go anywhere,
• 9:35
Speaker 3: she could she she she could pick anywhere that she
• 9:38
Speaker 3: wanted to have this, Yes, absolutely, and she's picking here.
• 9:43
Speaker 4: Right, which is pretty which is huge. Yeah, it's huge.
• 9:47
  Speaker 3: I mean, it's a it's a it's a huge give
• 9:49
Speaker 3: back and respect to her roots, to her roots, and
• 9:55
Speaker 3: and we and and and we as West Virginian's we
• 9:59
Speaker 3: hate when an athlete gets big go somewhere else and
• 10:04
Speaker 3: we don't hear and we don't hear from them. They
• 10:06
Speaker 3: don't come back, they don't do this. Yeah, and here
• 10:08
Speaker 3: is somebody that wants to bring who wants to bring
• 10:13
Speaker 3: everything about her past back home to West Virginia. Yeah,
• 10:20
Speaker 3: and you can't tell me, you get You have no
• 10:22
Speaker 3: choice but to take your hat off. You have no
• 10:24
Speaker 3: choice to pay whatever it costs to get to the
• 10:27
Speaker 3: movies just to see it. Judge it however you want
• 10:30
Speaker 3: after you come out. But do her a favor and
• 10:34
Speaker 3: go to the movie.
• 10:35
Speaker 4: Yeah, for sure. And the other thing I wanted to
• 10:38
Speaker 4: add to that is, you know, just just the whole
• 10:42
Speaker 4: the aura of her. I mean, like I said, if
• 10:43
Speaker 4: you haven't, first of all, if you haven't checked that
• 10:45
Speaker 4: podcast out that we have, go back to the archives
• 10:48
Speaker 4: and listen to her, because she was She sat here
• 10:51
Speaker 4: with an hour and just spoke so eloquently, so calmly,
• 10:56
Speaker 4: you would never know she's a boxer. But her story,
• 10:59
Speaker 4: I mean, the thing that we discussed with her, and
• 11:01
Speaker 4: it was basically on the Netflix. They had a documentary
• 11:04
Speaker 4: about her life. I forget the name of it. I
• 11:06
Speaker 4: should know it, but we all watched it and you know,
• 11:10
Speaker 4: we'll figure it out. Was it Dancing with the devil
• 11:12
Speaker 4: or something like that. It was something similar to that.
• 11:15
Speaker 4: But that's also something you should watch. That's an actual
• 11:17
Speaker 4: documentary of Christie's life. But but anyway, just if you
• 11:22
Speaker 4: haven't done that yet, you need to go back and
• 11:24
Speaker 4: listen to that podcast because it was a pretty special
• 11:27
Speaker 4: evening that we had with her and her dog, Champ
• 11:30
Speaker 4: And just kudos to her for everything she's doing for West.
• 11:34
Speaker 4: I mean, she didn't have to come in in James
• 11:36
  Speaker 4: in person.
• 11:37
Speaker 3: She doesn't even have to claim West Virginia.
• 11:39
Speaker 4: She does it. I mean, she just happened to be
• 11:41
Speaker 4: in town and luckily we got her in in the
• 11:43
Speaker 4: in the studio and you know, sat down and spent
• 11:46
Speaker 4: an hour of her time with us. It just it
• 11:48
Speaker 4: just speaks volumes of her.
• 11:50
Speaker 3: At no time did she seem rushed or no anything
• 11:54
Speaker 3: or bothered by a question.
• 11:56
Speaker 4: And now she's her story. The movie is actually her
• 11:59
Speaker 4: first name. Yeah, how awesome is that? I mean, Christy,
• 12:02
Speaker 4: you know you can't I don't know if you can say.
• 12:05
Speaker 3: You know, now when we start talking about like you know,
• 12:09
Speaker 3: we can I don't know if we want to say
• 12:11
Speaker 3: the greatest athlete, but when you start talking about the
• 12:14
Speaker 3: most notable is she is she becoming one of the
• 12:18
Speaker 3: most notable because you know, there was Jerry West of
• 12:20
Speaker 3: the movie. Yes, because you know, like like Jerry West,
• 12:23
Speaker 3: like you know, all the conversations and all the things
• 12:25
Speaker 3: around him, it was hard to say that anybody else
• 12:29
Speaker 3: was bigger than him. But as his time kind of
• 12:32
Speaker 3: went away and become somebody else, to become somebody else. Yeah,
• 12:37
Speaker 3: But I think are we in the moment of Christy Martin?
• 12:41
Speaker 4: I think so. And I think once her story gets
• 12:43
Speaker 4: out here, once, once this movie is released in the
• 12:45
Speaker 4: theaters and people go out and see it, and you know,
• 12:48
Speaker 4: it's one thing to experience. You can look things up
• 12:52
Speaker 4: on the internet and read about it in an article,
• 12:54
Speaker 4: but to see it, you know, act, especially Sidney Sweeney.
• 12:57
Speaker 4: I'm sure Is will do a fabulous job. From what
• 13:00
Speaker 4: I've heard from reviews. She she did an excellent job.
• 13:02
Speaker 4: But just to be able to see it on the
• 13:05
Speaker 4: big screen in order, you know, from the beginning of
• 13:09
Speaker 4: her career to the end, and be able to see
• 13:11
Speaker 4: her story, I think it just it would be more
• 13:15
Speaker 4: magical and and we'll get out there more.
• 13:17
Speaker 3: And I and I and I hate to even say this,
• 13:20
Speaker 3: but what I'm interested in is the home life of
• 13:25
Speaker 3: what she was actually going through. Yes, because there's there
• 13:29
Speaker 3: is this reality that, you know, bad home life. You know,
• 13:32
Speaker 3: you can put all that into you can put all
• 13:35
Speaker 3: that frustration, all that anger into into your sport or
• 13:38
Speaker 3: into whatever that is. And I do I do get that.
• 13:42
Speaker 3: I do, I do believe that. But when she's sitting
• 13:47
Speaker 3: when she was sitting in here, I don't even know
• 13:51
Speaker 3: if I could see her anger even into the sport.
• 13:57
Speaker 3: She could be just you know what I'm saying, Like
• 13:59
Speaker 3: she she just seemed so.
• 14:03
Speaker 4: Past the mild. Yes, I don't know how to describe her.
• 14:07
Speaker 4: I mean, she was very articulate, very She's a very intelligent,
• 14:12
Speaker 4: you know, studied woman.
• 14:13
Speaker 3: Not angered, no, don't have, but didn't come about.
• 14:16
Speaker 4: And I bet you that's taken time. I mean, you know,
• 14:19
Speaker 4: it's been a minute since all that happened, and she's
• 14:21
Speaker 4: probably had to work through all of the feelings that
• 14:24
Speaker 4: she probably experienced. And now she's probably taken that feeling
• 14:29
Speaker 4: and kind of channeled it into wanting to Because I
• 14:32
Speaker 4: think part of the message of this movie it's not
• 14:34
Speaker 4: only her life and her career, but it's also you know,
• 14:38
Speaker 4: if you're someone that's dealing with this type of abuse,
• 14:42
Speaker 4: and she even mentioned this in the studio when she
• 14:44
Speaker 4: was here. If you're someone who's enduring this type of
• 14:47
Speaker 4: abuse and you see the warning signs, you know, she
• 14:50
Speaker 4: kind of ignored the red flags. And I think part
• 14:53
Speaker 4: of her mission with this movie is not only for
• 14:55
Speaker 4: people to understand her her boxing career, but also to
• 15:00
Speaker 4: kind of see the things that can happen in a
• 15:03
Speaker 4: abusive relationship and you need to, you know, kind of
• 15:06
Speaker 4: watch for these things and get out before it gets
• 15:09
Speaker 4: to the extent that I had to experience it.
• 15:11
Speaker 3: Now that you say that, yeah, I almost feel like
• 15:15
Speaker 3: that's the foundation of the movie and her Bobby, A
• 15:19
Speaker 3: big part is just the extra right, It's just where
• 15:23
Speaker 3: she was able to maybe put out that anger and
• 15:27
Speaker 3: all those kinds of things. But I now that you
• 15:29
Speaker 3: say that, I really and seeing her in the studio,
• 15:32
Speaker 3: seeing her so calm. Yeah, but it's it's like she's
• 15:39
Speaker 3: past that, and she wants everybody to see how that happens, Yes,
• 15:44
  Speaker 3: how it happened.
• 15:45
  Speaker 4: For her, right, And I think that's that's her I
• 15:49
Speaker 4: don't want to say it's her goal, but I think
• 15:51
Speaker 4: that's a big part of the reason that she wants
• 15:54
Speaker 4: this movie to be successful. Is so that, you know,
• 15:58
Speaker 4: not like I said, I don't think the biggest focus
• 16:00
Speaker 4: is on what she did in her boxing career, but
• 16:02
Speaker 4: it's more of and I think she even mentioned this
• 16:04
Speaker 4: and like I said, listen to this podcast. It's amazing.
• 16:07
Speaker 4: But she she even said, my message is to help others. Now,
• 16:11
Speaker 4: this is this is why I'm doing this. And so anyway,
• 16:15
Speaker 4: I just feel like, if if you have a chance,
• 16:17
Speaker 4: go see the movie. I can't wait to go see
• 16:19
  Speaker 4: the movie myself.
• 16:20
Speaker 3: So I again, we are we are fortunate to have
• 16:27
Speaker 3: had her on and unfortunately she wasn't able to make
• 16:33
  Speaker 3: it today as.
• 16:35
Speaker 4: A call in, and I had some great questions but
• 16:39
Speaker 4: oh well, you know well.
• 16:40
Speaker 3: And and again I kind of plans. But some of
• 16:46
Speaker 3: the questions that you may have, you know, I think
• 16:50
Speaker 3: they're they're they're relatable to us to even kind of
• 16:53
Speaker 3: discuss and or put out there for people too who
• 16:57
Speaker 3: know her, who may look her up, who haven't heard
• 17:00
Speaker 3: of her and may look her up.
• 17:02
Speaker 4: And well, I think the main and we can discuss
• 17:05
Speaker 4: this question because this was the one that I really
• 17:07
Speaker 4: wanted her to answer for me, and it was like
• 17:12
Speaker 4: the main focus. But which part of your life was
• 17:18
Speaker 4: the most challenged, challenging to watch while it was being
• 17:22
Speaker 4: depicted on screen. Yeah, and I felt like probably it
• 17:26
Speaker 4: would be the domestic violence part of it, but that
• 17:30
Speaker 4: would be one of the questions I would have asked.
• 17:31
Speaker 4: Also her relationship with Sidney Sweeney. You know, they had
• 17:35
Speaker 4: to spend a lot of time together in order for
• 17:38
Speaker 4: Sydney to be able to portray her in an emotion picture.
• 17:42
Speaker 4: And I'm just wondering what kind of things they shared
• 17:46
Speaker 4: in a relationship for her to deeply understand, because you
• 17:50
Speaker 4: have to deeply understand, especially when you're doing this type
• 17:52
Speaker 4: of a movie, and.
• 17:53
Speaker 3: If you're a friend to something, you become a friend
• 17:55
Speaker 3: to somebody who's who's playing you.
• 17:57
Speaker 4: Right, you have to get into the character to understand
• 18:00
Speaker 4: that character. So I wonder. I'm sure that Christy provided
• 18:04
Speaker 4: lots of valuable, you know, advice in different things for
• 18:09
Speaker 4: her to be able to do this.
• 18:10
Speaker 3: So and the better that Sidney would play that role,
• 18:15
Speaker 3: the more real it looks.
• 18:18
Speaker 4: Right, authentic authenticity you need it for this type of movie.
• 18:23
Speaker 3: When you're watching somebody play you in such a negative situation, gosh, emotionally,
• 18:33
Speaker 3: how do you watch that I mean.
• 18:34
Speaker 4: That's gonna be that that that would be my one
• 18:36
Speaker 4: question for her. I mean I think that that would
• 18:38
Speaker 4: be even for I mean even it's just a day
• 18:41
Speaker 4: to day like you and I. I can't imagine. I mean,
• 18:44
Speaker 4: I have nothing to make a movie about, believe me,
• 18:46
Speaker 4: But I mean, like if it just parts of your
• 18:49
Speaker 4: life that were very hard for you and seeing someone
• 18:53
Speaker 4: act them out on the screen, regardless of what they are.
• 18:55
Speaker 4: Everybody has personal tragedy. Everybody. Hers is a bigger degree
• 18:59
Speaker 4: than but we all have personal tragedies that we deal with,
• 19:03
Speaker 4: and to see someone acting it out, it's gotta be like.
• 19:07
Speaker 3: And and think about it. It's tough.
• 19:09
Speaker 4: It's got to be tough if you you relive it,
• 19:11
  Speaker 4: you live it.
• 19:12
Speaker 3: Yes, and and and so you're having you know, you're
• 19:15
Speaker 3: going to this ceremony of everybody watching it. All these
• 19:20
Speaker 3: famous people are going to be sitting somewhere watching this,
• 19:24
Speaker 3: and you're basically, yes, you're basically like letting them inside
• 19:29
Speaker 3: of you. How do you sit there and not like,
• 19:35
Speaker 3: how do you not break down when you're you're you're
• 19:39
Speaker 3: going back and you're reliving a life that you have
• 19:43
Speaker 3: basically worked your entire life to get passed and you
• 19:47
Speaker 3: feel like you're past it all of a sudden, now
• 19:50
Speaker 3: it's on It's on the screen, and you have to
• 19:54
  Speaker 3: feel it.
• 19:54
Speaker 4: You have to relive it. Well, I bet by now,
• 19:57
Speaker 4: and this is just a you know, a guess, an
• 19:59
Speaker 4: educated guest. But the movie was released internationally at some
• 20:02
Speaker 4: different film festivals in September. She's she's seen it enough
• 20:06
Speaker 4: now that probably by the time she sees it again
• 20:08
Speaker 4: this Friday, you know, it's not going to be as
• 20:11
  Speaker 4: raw because she's you know, I don't know. I mean
• 20:14
Speaker 4: that that would have been one of my questions. I
• 20:16
Speaker 4: think that that would have been an interesting response to
• 20:19
Speaker 4: hear from her. And also just basically, you know, do
• 20:23
Speaker 4: you think sometimes when you have these movies come out,
• 20:26
Speaker 4: do you think they'll be like an uptick in women
• 20:28
Speaker 4: entering boxing because they see it this kind of movie
• 20:31
Speaker 4: and you know her, she's very inspirational. Yeah, And to
• 20:35
Speaker 4: see the way she you know, came from West Virginia
• 20:37
Speaker 4: and worked her way to Vegas basically to become the
• 20:41
Speaker 4: opening act or opening boxing event for I think it
• 20:45
Speaker 4: was Mike Tyson. I mean, to do that is just
• 20:48
Speaker 4: huge mind blowing. And so if you're a woman who
• 20:52
Speaker 4: has athletic ideas and tendencies. Is this like that little
• 20:56
Speaker 4: push that makes you think boxing might be for me?
• 20:58
  Speaker 4: I don't know.
• 20:59
Speaker 3: I'm gonna say possibly, okay, but I think see, I
• 21:06
Speaker 3: see it so much differently. I see that from my view.
• 21:14
Speaker 3: I see women seeing her forget what it is that
• 21:19
Speaker 3: she done to get past it, to get through it. Okay,
• 21:23
Speaker 3: she's on the other side of it. Yeah, you know,
• 21:25
Speaker 3: so she's gotten on the other side of it, no
• 21:27
Speaker 3: matter how she got there. And and to me, it's like,
• 21:31
Speaker 3: oh that's possible. Yeah, I can get I can get
• 21:34
Speaker 3: through this. I just have to find something that fits me,
• 21:38
Speaker 3: something that inspires me to make me get beyond that
• 21:43
  Speaker 3: situation that time.
• 21:44
Speaker 4: That person that's just thinking of young girls like that,
• 21:48
Speaker 4: the young girls that aren't at that you know, understandable, right,
• 21:52
Speaker 4: and they see that if they go to the movies
• 21:54
Speaker 4: and they see the boxing part of it, and you know,
• 21:56
Speaker 4: are they like, wow, this this might be for me.
• 21:58
Speaker 4: I'm just that would be a thing that, you know,
• 22:00
Speaker 4: to me, would be kind of fun to know whether
• 22:03
Speaker 4: there's an uptick in women's boxing after this movie release.
• 22:07
Speaker 4: But but the part you're saying, I'm not diminishing, and
• 22:11
  Speaker 4: I'm not and.
• 22:11
Speaker 3: I'm not challenging. I'm not challenging the other side of it.
• 22:14
  Speaker 7: I was.
• 22:15
Speaker 3: I was just gonna say, like I think most young
• 22:20
Speaker 3: ladies today, young girls, young ladies, I don't know if
• 22:24
  Speaker 3: they've ever considered you know, that's what I mean. They've
• 22:28
Speaker 3: never considered boxing as something because it's not a lot
• 22:32
  Speaker 3: because it's not you don't.
• 22:33
Speaker 4: Hear about it, don't hear about it, and you don't see.
• 22:36
Speaker 3: A lot of women doing it. Right, But all of
• 22:38
Speaker 3: a sudden, now you see this woman and why she
• 22:41
Speaker 3: I'm not gonna say why, but what it was doing
• 22:44
  Speaker 3: for her.
• 22:45
  Speaker 7: Right.
• 22:46
Speaker 3: You may have some issues that you're going through that
• 22:48
Speaker 3: you continue to battle with. You might think, well, well,
• 22:52
Speaker 3: you know, maybe I should get in the gym and yeah,
• 22:55
Speaker 3: just see what's see what it's like.
• 22:57
  Speaker 7: You know.
• 22:58
  Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm I'm I'm with that.
• 23:01
Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm pretty psyched about it. So I'm definitely gonna
• 23:04
Speaker 4: check it out in the theater as soon as possible.
• 23:07
Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm hoping, I'm hoping to. I'm probably gonna try
• 23:12
Speaker 3: to go if it's if it's Friday, I'm probably gonna
• 23:14
Speaker 3: try to get there on Friday. If and hopefully it's
• 23:17
Speaker 3: in days valley or nightro I go somewhere close because
• 23:21
Speaker 3: I really I really want to. I want to see
• 23:25
Speaker 3: it because of her, because of lately I would have seen.
• 23:30
Speaker 4: It anyway, but but but knowing her personally now and
• 23:35
Speaker 4: just and just experiencing that that, you know, just just
• 23:38
Speaker 4: kind of like she was. She was really like I
• 23:40
Speaker 4: think she was kind of sad that she couldn't be
• 23:42
Speaker 4: on tonight because we had texted her and she was
• 23:45
Speaker 4: stuck in traffic in New York City and you know
• 23:47
Speaker 4: that's probably not fun. And she said, West Virginia strong, right,
• 23:52
Speaker 4: you know, thank you, and and so yeah, she's a
• 23:55
  Speaker 4: she's a she's a really wonderful person.
• 23:58
Speaker 3: And can you could you imagine like watching that with her?
• 24:04
Speaker 4: I think it would be fun. I think at this point,
• 24:07
Speaker 4: like I said, I think the emotions are probably not
• 24:10
Speaker 4: as raw. So I think where she's she's been to
• 24:12
Speaker 4: these premieres and she's seen it more than once.
• 24:14
Speaker 3: But still I mean to me, but but because you know,
• 24:19
Speaker 3: because I mean, okay, so like if if I was
• 24:21
Speaker 3: if I heard something that was a bad situation in
• 24:24
Speaker 3: your life and and I'm and I'm privy to it,
• 24:29
Speaker 3: like that would bother me, you know what I'm saying.
• 24:33
Speaker 3: And now just having her have been in the studio
• 24:36
Speaker 3: one time, right one time, and the way she came across,
• 24:42
Speaker 3: I think she's to go ahead. Well, I was gonna say,
• 24:45
Speaker 3: to sit by her and watch it. I would be
• 24:51
Speaker 3: like I'd see something on the screen that you know
• 24:55
Speaker 3: that was ugly, and I'd go like I'd have to.
• 24:58
Speaker 4: Like you'd almost be uncomfort to a degree, yes, because
• 25:02
Speaker 4: you just hurt so much for her the pain, Like
• 25:05
  Speaker 4: I mean, I don't know, like you just you wouldn't
• 25:07
Speaker 4: want to see it. Well, like you said, we kind
• 25:09
Speaker 4: of we don't know, no, but we know we're well
• 25:11
Speaker 4: enough that I feel like if we sat with her
• 25:13
Speaker 4: in a room and, like you said, watched that movie
• 25:17
Speaker 4: with her and saw what she went through personally, it
• 25:20
Speaker 4: would be hard not to react emotionally as well. Like
• 25:24
  Speaker 4: I think I would be a basket case. I probably
• 25:26
  Speaker 4: will be anyway.
• 25:27
Speaker 3: And when well, when she was here, you remember, right
• 25:31
Speaker 3: as soon as we started to end the show, I
• 25:34
Speaker 3: made it very clear to her that I was starstruck. Yeah,
• 25:37
Speaker 3: you know, this was the person who actually created a
• 25:42
Speaker 3: situation to me to be starstruck because I was like, Okay,
• 25:48
Speaker 3: this is this, this is the lady who's basically the
• 25:53
Speaker 3: foundation of women's boxing.
• 25:56
Speaker 4: And she's from West Virginia and she's from West Virginia.
• 25:58
Speaker 3: And I didn't know any thing about that until we started,
• 26:02
Speaker 3: until it came out.
• 26:03
Speaker 4: Right as daughter, yes, yeah, and.
• 26:07
Speaker 3: I mean that, and to me, that is just like
• 26:11
Speaker 3: an amazing thing. And then then you say, gosh, but
• 26:15
Speaker 3: it had but it comes with all of that pain
• 26:18
Speaker 3: and agony and all of that.
• 26:21
Speaker 4: I had one more question too, that was pretty important
• 26:23
Speaker 4: that I wanted because we all know when you go
• 26:25
Speaker 4: to the movie, or when you go to a movie
• 26:26
Speaker 4: it's based on a true story, that there's a little embellishment.
• 26:31
Speaker 4: A lot of times the directors take some liberties, right,
• 26:34
Speaker 4: So one of my questions was how accurate, how accurate
• 26:39
Speaker 4: is the film in representing your life? And and and
• 26:42
Speaker 4: so I was I was real curious to get her
• 26:44
Speaker 4: answer on that, because, like I said, sometimes movies stray.
• 26:47
Speaker 4: I'm not saying they stray far away, but sometimes they
• 26:49
Speaker 4: stray a little bit for dramatic effect. And I was
• 26:52
Speaker 4: just curious to see what her answers would be to that.
• 26:55
Speaker 4: So but but you know, I think we know her
• 26:57
Speaker 4: story well enough, and if you watch the documentary on
• 27:00
Speaker 4: Netflix about her, you can compare, you can really compare
• 27:03
Speaker 4: the movie to that and really get your answer.
• 27:05
Speaker 3: And I would like to. I would think too, she
• 27:09
Speaker 3: would because of just how how she is and the
• 27:12
Speaker 3: kind of person that she is. Like, she's not gonna
• 27:15
Speaker 3: let yeah, she's not gonna let you take it too far,
• 27:20
Speaker 3: you know, because she wants her it's her story.
• 27:23
Speaker 4: She wants the truth.
• 27:24
Speaker 3: If it's if it's five slaps, don't make it twenty. Yeah,
• 27:28
Speaker 3: you know, because I want people to I want this
• 27:32
Speaker 3: to be real, right, and and and and again I'm
• 27:35
Speaker 3: speculating to death here, Okay, but I think just knowing
• 27:41
Speaker 3: who she is, having that one opportunity to have her
• 27:45
Speaker 3: in the studio, I feel like she's about the truth. Yea,
• 27:51
Speaker 3: and she she's she's not. There's no real reason to
• 27:55
Speaker 3: make it worse than it was.
• 27:56
  Speaker 8: It was.
• 27:57
Speaker 3: It was as it was bad enough for her.
• 28:00
Speaker 4: Yes, that is it.
• 28:02
Speaker 3: When you show it right, you should. If people can't
• 28:06
Speaker 3: feel it, they can't see it, then that's on them.
• 28:11
  Speaker 4: I agree.
• 28:12
Speaker 3: I don't see her being a blow up of anything.
• 28:15
Speaker 4: Not me either. No, No, I think I think she's a.
• 28:18
Speaker 4: She's a very genuine person, so I feel like she
• 28:21
Speaker 4: probably had a lot of oversight during this filming. So
• 28:24
Speaker 4: but but we'll just have to wait and see when
• 28:26
Speaker 4: the movie comes out.
• 28:27
Speaker 3: I can you know, as soon as as soon as
• 28:29
Speaker 3: I come out of the studio, I'm calling.
• 28:31
Speaker 4: Yeah, I know for sure we're going to be like.
• 28:36
Speaker 3: I'm calling you and said, hey, have you already seen it?
• 28:40
Speaker 3: And I'm going to rush you together on this weekend?
• 28:44
Speaker 4: So ironed out. I mean sometime this weekend I'll be
• 28:47
Speaker 4: in a theater watching this movie, so I.
• 28:49
Speaker 3: Will do so. All right, Well let's take a quick

Speaker 2: Now back into the conversation.
• 30:22
Speaker 3: All Right, ladies and gentlemen, we are we are back.
• 30:26
Speaker 3: And one of one of the sports that I I
• 30:30
Speaker 3: hate to hate them said that I was afraid to play.
• 30:33
Speaker 3: Oh my goodness, I would love to play golf. But
• 30:37
Speaker 3: I'm always there. I'm always here to play golf. I
• 30:42
Speaker 3: might be. But baseball, yeah, you know, and we haven't
• 30:48
Speaker 3: talked a lot about baseball, but we have to. We
• 30:52
  Speaker 3: have to.
• 30:53
Speaker 4: Yeah, the World Series, the World Series? Can we can?
• 30:56
Speaker 4: We hear the clip.
• 30:59
Speaker 3: Here's z O two pitch bounce as well, knocked the
• 31:02
Speaker 3: head up bits to the back over the past.
• 31:05
Speaker 1: To beat the champ, you gotta knock him out.
• 31:09
Speaker 9: The Dodgers stand tall and went back to back titles.
• 31:50
Speaker 9: Clayton Kershaw's major league career ends as he watches his
• 31:55
Speaker 9: team win a Game seven epic. It didn't look like
• 32:01
Speaker 9: they had any shot in this one until the very end,
• 32:05
Speaker 9: but an unsung hero, a most unlikely hero, Mcguel Rojas
• 32:10
Speaker 9: tied the game with a home run. With all the
• 32:13
Speaker 9: focus on the man that was on deck Sho hey
• 32:15
Speaker 9: o Tani, it was Rojas who delivered the shock, and
• 32:20
Speaker 9: then it was Will Smith, who delivered the game winning
• 32:24
Speaker 9: home run in the top of the eleventh Inna and
• 32:27
Speaker 9: Yoshi Nobu Yamamoto, legendary stuff, wins three games in this
• 32:33
Speaker 9: World Series, a complete game in game two. His team
• 32:37
Speaker 9: faces elimination in game six, and then, like Grandy Johnson,
• 32:41
Speaker 9: like Brover Cleveland, Alexander, like some of the all time greats,
• 32:45
Speaker 9: Yoshi Nobu Yamamoto finishes off Game seven.
• 32:48
Speaker 3: Unbelievable. That's just the only word I can say. Unbelievable.
• 32:52
Speaker 3: People who have pitched, they will appreciate that more than
• 32:55
Speaker 3: anybody else. Five to four end Game seven, Game seven.
• 33:06
Speaker 4: I know, right, all right, did you stay up for
• 33:10
Speaker 4: any of these games, charl I'm gonna be honest disclaimer,
• 33:14
Speaker 4: I did not. I mean I went to bed and
• 33:16
Speaker 4: left my husband on the couch like he was, like,
• 33:18
  Speaker 4: he's a big baseball person.
• 33:20
Speaker 3: But though, but oh, we should have had him in
• 33:22
  Speaker 3: for this time.
• 33:22
Speaker 4: I know, right, oh, he would have loved it. But yeah,
• 33:26
Speaker 4: but you know what, I wanted to say this really
• 33:28
Speaker 4: quick before we start this conversation that people are calling
• 33:31
Speaker 4: this one of the if not one of the top
• 33:35
Speaker 4: five game seven's in World Series history, and there's only
• 33:39
Speaker 4: been like I think forty forty one, and they're saying
• 33:43
Speaker 4: this is in the top five of this forty one
• 33:45
Speaker 4: going back to the very beginning of baseball. That's how
• 33:47
Speaker 4: exciting this game was.
• 33:50
Speaker 3: And I heard eleven innings right, yes, yes, now help me? Well, okay,
• 33:58
Speaker 3: I mean, I mean that's like how many overtimes in football?
• 34:03
Speaker 4: You know, say, did you really just say that?
• 34:06
Speaker 3: I'm just making the case, like truly like it, like
• 34:10
Speaker 3: you like you'd have to have like five overtimes or
• 34:13
Speaker 3: something in football too.
• 34:15
Speaker 4: Base ignorance is showing.
• 34:16
Speaker 3: But go ahead, I'm making a comparison, that's all.
• 34:22
  Speaker 4: Well, I mean, so I didn't watch the game. I'm
• 34:25
Speaker 4: gonna sit here and be honest. I watched maybe the
• 34:27
  Speaker 4: first Let me.
• 34:28
Speaker 3: This it just so I can clarify my ignorant tho. Okay,
• 34:31
Speaker 3: how many times has has teams gone to eleven innings?
• 34:35
Speaker 3: And and specifically in the World.
• 34:38
Speaker 4: Series, I am not sure about that. I do know
• 34:41
Speaker 4: in this World Series they had an eighteen inning game
• 34:44
Speaker 4: in Game three of this series. So this was just
• 34:49
Speaker 4: like it was. It was probably one of the best
• 34:51
Speaker 4: World Series ever for somebody to watch.
• 34:55
Speaker 3: And and you know, eighty yeah, if you're a baseball fan.
• 34:57
Speaker 4: If you're a baseball fan, it was just truly phenomenal.
• 35:01
Speaker 3: And you're talking about now, you're talking about two truly,
• 35:05
Speaker 3: truly top teams that were Yeah, the competition was crazy. Right.
• 35:11
Speaker 4: Well, and let's throw this in there, because I didn't
• 35:13
Speaker 4: realize this until just the other day, but they also
• 35:17
Speaker 4: have the best payrolls in Major League Baseball. Okay, well, hey,
• 35:22
Speaker 4: so the biggest payroll in Major League Baseball for twenty
• 35:27
Speaker 4: twenty five is the Mets. Okay, they're number one, but
• 35:31
Speaker 4: they're only slightly above the Dodgers. I think the Mets
• 35:35
Speaker 4: had three three hundred and twenty three point one million
• 35:38
Speaker 4: to play with, and the Dodgers had three hundred and
• 35:41
Speaker 4: twenty one point three million, So that's one and two.
• 35:45
Speaker 4: The Blue Jays came in at five. But listen to this,
• 35:48
Speaker 4: their money is two hundred and fifty five million. So
• 35:51
  Speaker 4: that to me, that's a that's a significant drop drop.
• 35:54
Speaker 4: I mean, I know we're talking about millions here, yeah,
• 35:56
Speaker 4: but I mean, to me, there there's a reason why
• 35:59
Speaker 4: they were both in the World Series. You know, lots
• 36:03
Speaker 4: of money to play with.
• 36:05
Speaker 3: Are we buying championships?
• 36:09
  Speaker 4: I mean, I don't know if I'd go that far.
• 36:11
Speaker 4: But I mean, I think it matters how much money
• 36:12
Speaker 4: you have on your payroll absolutely to get Yeah, I
• 36:17
Speaker 4: mean that just goes hand in hand.
• 36:19
Speaker 3: And I know that. I know that pictures are important.
• 36:22
Speaker 3: I know hitters are important with that type of money.
• 36:27
Speaker 3: Are you getting the best pictures? Are you getting the
• 36:29
  Speaker 3: best hitters?
• 36:30
Speaker 4: You're the Dodgers. Yeah, they're starters, they're pitching all of it.
• 36:35
  Speaker 4: Yeah they're they're okay, they're okay.
• 36:38
Speaker 3: Now okay, can you keep them?
• 36:43
Speaker 4: Well, I mean as long as you pay them and
• 36:45
  Speaker 4: and and and.
• 36:46
Speaker 3: But okay, so let's say I'm another team. I want
• 36:48
  Speaker 3: I want to come. I want to I want I
• 36:50
Speaker 3: need that picture. Yeah, I need that third basement. I
• 36:52
Speaker 3: need that guy. I'm not sure are they There's nothing
• 36:57
Speaker 3: like football and basketball.
• 37:00
Speaker 4: I don't know the rules, like, I don't know the contracts,
• 37:03
Speaker 4: like how they work, like people just come in and
• 37:05
Speaker 4: buy out your contract.
• 37:06
Speaker 8: I do. Do you know?
• 37:07
Speaker 4: They don't have like a cap obviously, so you know
• 37:12
Speaker 4: how it works the end. But here's the thing. If
• 37:15
Speaker 4: you're if you're just think about what you just said.
• 37:18
Speaker 4: You're getting paid, right, a lot of money, okay, and
• 37:21
Speaker 4: you're on a World Series championship team. What more would
• 37:25
Speaker 4: you want? Like, why would you go somewhere else?
• 37:28
  Speaker 3: Gosh?
• 37:28
  Speaker 10: I think I think that there's much I think that
• 37:32
Speaker 10: shows up in basketball. I think those guys, yeah, but
• 37:36
  Speaker 10: I think baseball's different. I would agree, I mean, I
• 37:39
Speaker 10: would agree, I think, and I could be dead wrong.
• 37:42
Speaker 10: And like I said, I am not a baseball guy. Yeah, okay,
• 37:48
Speaker 10: but it seems to me baseball players are way more
• 37:54
Speaker 10: loyal to their team and their teammates in potentially any
• 38:00
Speaker 10: any other sport, or specifically football and basketball.
• 38:04
  Speaker 4: That's a good observation. I didn't think about that. I'm
• 38:07
Speaker 4: you don't hear about the trades in baseball like you
• 38:10
Speaker 4: do the other sports, for sure, and every once in
• 38:13
Speaker 4: a while, but not often.
• 38:14
Speaker 3: And okay, so am I require is the player requiring
• 38:18
Speaker 3: the how many times? Not that you're just not really
• 38:22
Speaker 3: asking you this question? But like, am I asking for
• 38:26
Speaker 3: a trade? Am I asking to go to another team?
• 38:28
Speaker 3: Or is the team saying we need to part ways
• 38:31
Speaker 3: with that money? You know? Yeah? Because that's all the
• 38:35
Speaker 3: other two. Yeah, in the other two, in our other
• 38:38
Speaker 3: two sports, football and basketball, I can be making plenty,
• 38:43
Speaker 3: plenty of money, but I want to go somewhere else
• 38:47
Speaker 3: for the possibility of winning a championship, for the possibility
• 38:50
Speaker 3: to getting more money, or the possibility of playing with you.
• 38:54
Speaker 3: Any any of those reasons is justifiable for me. In
• 38:57
Speaker 3: the other two sports, I don't know if baseball is
• 39:03
Speaker 3: like that. I think you're on a team and you
• 39:07
  Speaker 3: stay there.
• 39:09
Speaker 4: Why is that, you think? Is it just a whole
• 39:12
Speaker 4: different mentality I do.
• 39:15
  Speaker 3: I think they.
• 39:15
Speaker 4: I think when you they bond closer. I mean the players,
• 39:19
  Speaker 4: the coaches.
• 39:19
Speaker 3: I mean, I think when you, let's say you you
• 39:22
Speaker 3: you get drafted to the Cincinnati Reds, Okay, you're a
• 39:28
Speaker 3: Cincinnati Red Yeah, and I'm here. This is where I
• 39:35
Speaker 3: wanted to be, right, I'm staying here until, you know,
• 39:38
Speaker 3: unless there's issues with contracts or something like that.
• 39:41
Speaker 4: For the most part, there's so many story teams in
• 39:44
Speaker 4: baseball because it's an older sport. I think, like the
• 39:48
Speaker 4: Red Sox, I mean, you hear about you know, these
• 39:50
Speaker 4: are teams that have been around. I mean, the Dodgers,
• 39:54
Speaker 4: the Mets, the Yankees. I mean, if you're a Yankee,
• 39:58
Speaker 4: you you that's pretty amazing.
• 40:00
Speaker 3: Like you don't have to know anything about you don't
• 40:02
Speaker 3: have to know anything about baseball. But there are teams
• 40:05
Speaker 3: that you just know.
• 40:06
Speaker 4: Yeah, you just say their name the mascot and they're like, okay,
• 40:09
  Speaker 4: you are.
• 40:10
Speaker 3: And I think, and I think that what is what is?
• 40:14
Speaker 3: What is different? Specifically in football. I'm happy to have
• 40:22
Speaker 3: been a Viking all but one year, and I would
• 40:26
Speaker 3: have closed my career out with the Vikings if they
• 40:29
Speaker 3: hadn't cut me. So you had loyalty, yes I had, Yes, Yes,
• 40:35
Speaker 3: I don't do anything with the Saints. No, you know,
• 40:38
  Speaker 3: I got some buddies there, but I just I don't
• 40:40
Speaker 3: go back there. I don't do any of that. I
• 40:42
Speaker 3: want to be known. I want everything about my football
• 40:46
Speaker 3: career is all about being a Viking. I don't want
• 40:51
  Speaker 3: I have.
• 40:52
Speaker 4: A theory about that. Oh okay. I think because of
• 40:56
Speaker 4: this generation, starting with the transfers that can happen from
• 41:01
Speaker 4: high school on that that the athletes don't develop a
• 41:06
Speaker 4: sense of loyalty to a team because it's just it's
• 41:11
Speaker 4: not something well, they're just not pot like, like you don't.
• 41:16
Speaker 3: Have that to give you that. Gosh, I hate, I
• 41:18
Speaker 3: hate to do that, but I'm gonna give you. I'm
• 41:20
Speaker 3: going to give you that.
• 41:21
Speaker 4: My goodness, Hollis Hollis, if you're listening, did you hear that.
• 41:28
Speaker 3: I'm gonna have to give you that because it's not
• 41:31
Speaker 3: the same. It's not, it's not.
• 41:33
Speaker 4: I mean, you went to South Charleston High School, right,
• 41:37
Speaker 4: You never thought about transferring out of that high school.
• 41:39
Speaker 4: That wasn't even an option if you had fearce loyalty
• 41:42
Speaker 4: to your high school. Still do went to Marshall, right,
• 41:46
Speaker 4: stayed at Marshall your whole career dedicated to the Thundering Herds.
• 41:50
Speaker 4: Still still is right at your school. And then you
• 41:53
Speaker 4: went to the Viking's basically, and the.
• 41:56
Speaker 3: Only team that's on the outside of that is the Saints, which, again,
• 42:01
Speaker 3: that was your last that was my last season. Yeah,
• 42:04
Speaker 3: I mean, you know, and again I was I wanted
• 42:07
Speaker 3: to I wanted to play one more year and that
• 42:11
Speaker 3: was the only place I had the opportunity to play.
• 42:16
  Speaker 3: But again, like like I just don't I can't imagine
• 42:22
Speaker 3: like midway through my sophomore season at South Charleston thinking like,
• 42:30
Speaker 3: you know, I'm gonna I'm gonna go I'm going to
• 42:34
Speaker 3: play at Charleston High They're good. I'm going to go
• 42:36
Speaker 3: play for them. You know, I'm gonna transfer.
• 42:38
Speaker 4: First of all. You couldn't.
• 42:39
  Speaker 3: Yeah, you couldn't, but but I wouldn't.
• 42:41
Speaker 4: Even you wouldn't even think about even if you could have.
• 42:44
Speaker 3: You hated the teams that beat you.
• 42:46
Speaker 4: There were they were rivalries, and so you which Hollis
• 42:50
Speaker 4: would be proud of this conversation because he said that.
• 42:52
  Speaker 4: I mean, that's what's losing now.
• 42:54
Speaker 3: Yes it is. It is like I don't want to
• 42:57
Speaker 3: come play with you because you're good, right, I want
• 43:00
Speaker 3: to beat you because you're good. Yes, So I want
• 43:03
Speaker 3: to come at you if if you're you're a freshman
• 43:07
Speaker 3: and I'm a freshman and we're playing football.
• 43:09
Speaker 4: Yeah, I want to think about the team. You're not
• 43:12
Speaker 4: just thinking about yourself.
• 43:13
Speaker 3: No, No, I don't even know how as a Viking
• 43:20
Speaker 3: hating the Bears, how could I play for them?
• 43:23
Speaker 4: I thought you would say the Packers, Well with you.
• 43:26
Speaker 3: I should have said the Packers. You're right, you know,
• 43:28
Speaker 3: I'm off my I'm off my game today, because that
• 43:32
Speaker 3: would have been so let me back up, let me
• 43:35
Speaker 3: go back, let me go back. I would not want
• 43:38
Speaker 3: to play for the Packers, I know, right, I just
• 43:40
  Speaker 3: I just wouldn't. I got a buddy who plays on
• 43:43
  Speaker 3: the pack I know, and I wouldn't don't. I don't
• 43:48
Speaker 3: want to play with him. I want to play against him.
• 43:50
Speaker 3: I can play with him quote in the Pro Bowl, right,
• 43:53
Speaker 3: you know, and I can meet him and all that
• 43:56
  Speaker 3: kind of stuff. There's a there's a ton of guys
• 43:59
Speaker 3: that I truly, truly, really really like Andre Risen, Andre Reid.
• 44:04
Speaker 3: Those are guys I know, like I know know them right.
• 44:08
  Speaker 4: That's a mentality though, And I know.
• 44:10
Speaker 3: I'm gonna play against them almost every year, and so
• 44:15
Speaker 3: they know. They look on the schedule, they see the vikings,
• 44:18
Speaker 3: they know, yeah, and we know we're gonna compete. We
• 44:22
Speaker 3: know we're gonna do anything and everything that we possibly
• 44:25
Speaker 3: can to to for them to scores, catch passes on me,
• 44:29
Speaker 3: me to stop them. But you know what, as soon
• 44:31
Speaker 3: as the game's over, we'll be at the fifty yard
• 44:34
Speaker 3: line and we'll be laughing and joking and talking about
• 44:36
  Speaker 3: like what's.
• 44:37
Speaker 4: Going on, how you've been d Which is the way
• 44:40
Speaker 4: it should that, That's.
• 44:40
Speaker 3: The way sports is supposed to be.
• 44:44
Speaker 4: Right, right and all and again, So why do you
• 44:47
Speaker 4: think that is though with baseball, because it seems like
• 44:50
Speaker 4: they've kind of escaped that in a.
• 44:52
Speaker 3: Way they how did they do that?
• 44:54
  Speaker 4: Just the story.
• 44:55
Speaker 3: And I think that, I think the reality of going
• 45:00
Speaker 3: to the Cincinnati Reds. You're part of this and for
• 45:05
Speaker 3: everybody who already on that team, they show you, they
• 45:11
Speaker 3: make you understand how historic this is, right, how important
• 45:16
Speaker 3: this is. Now. You may get cut, you may get traded,
• 45:19
Speaker 3: you may get any of those kinds of things happen, right,
• 45:21
Speaker 3: those things happen, But you didn't choose. But you're not
• 45:23
Speaker 3: choosing that your choices. Your choice is here.
• 45:29
Speaker 4: And maybe, and maybe we're totally off base since we're
• 45:31
Speaker 4: not real baseball experts. Maybe, and that's something maybe on
• 45:35
Speaker 4: your Facebook, if people have a differing opinion of what
• 45:38
Speaker 4: we're saying here, they should definitely jump on and let
• 45:41
  Speaker 4: us know.
• 45:42
Speaker 3: Yeah, let's talk with Carly and hit me up, tell
• 45:45
Speaker 3: me if I'm wrong or whatever.
• 45:47
Speaker 4: We want to hear it. Yeah, But I mean, I'm
• 45:49
Speaker 4: like you, I don't for some reason, And I don't know,
• 45:53
Speaker 4: but you just don't hear about the trades, the cuts,
• 45:56
Speaker 4: all of that in baseball unless it's a major name,
• 45:59
Speaker 4: you know, and they got a major deal. But you
• 46:01
Speaker 4: just don't hear about it as much as you do
• 46:03
  Speaker 4: in football world.
• 46:05
Speaker 3: Yes, and and and and and I really think basketball,
• 46:11
Speaker 3: I think basketball has really the worst they and they
• 46:19
Speaker 3: just go from team to team like they're they're they're
• 46:22
Speaker 3: ready to leave. And again, I don't even know if
• 46:25
Speaker 3: it's leaving for money. I think it's just you know,
• 46:29
Speaker 3: you look at Lebron and and you know people have
• 46:32
Speaker 3: talked about him leaving to win championships. Right. You know
• 46:38
Speaker 3: why what back in the day you built a championship
• 46:42
  Speaker 3: You didn't. You didn't You didn't be a free agent
• 46:45
Speaker 3: and go to a championship team. You built a championship team.
• 46:50
Speaker 4: Brought surrounding your players that that could that could get
• 46:54
Speaker 4: the you could get the job done.
• 46:55
Speaker 3: That Where did that go?
• 46:59
Speaker 4: I'm telling you? And we always end up back on
• 47:02
Speaker 4: this subject, but it's just so true. Just it's so impactful.
• 47:05
Speaker 4: I mean, you think about what the transfer portal has
• 47:11
Speaker 4: done to athletes. It just it's starting at a young age.
• 47:16
  Speaker 4: And I'm I mean, I'm not saying it's I don't
• 47:19
Speaker 4: know what I'm saying, but I do think that it's
• 47:21
Speaker 4: affected how players think about the sport that they play
• 47:25
Speaker 4: in and how they will approach where they want to
• 47:30
Speaker 4: play and who they want to play with. Because they
• 47:33
Speaker 4: have they have a lot of choices, They have a
• 47:36
Speaker 4: lot of free range. They pretty much are in control
• 47:39
Speaker 4: of what they're going.
• 47:40
Speaker 3: To do if to the parents. And I think I've
• 47:43
Speaker 3: done this every time that we get on this subject.
• 47:49
Speaker 3: Sports was meant not to necessarily play D one or
• 47:54
Speaker 3: go to the NFL or NBA. Sports was really about
• 48:00
Speaker 3: life lessons and understanding teamwork and all of those kinds
• 48:05
  Speaker 3: of things.
• 48:06
Speaker 4: It's a good time to restate that, yes, your.
• 48:09
Speaker 3: Child could very well be one of the best players
• 48:12
Speaker 3: on a team and that team is not winning, right,
• 48:17
Speaker 3: your child is going to learn way more staying there
• 48:23
Speaker 3: right and building up his team, which is teamwork. Sure,
• 48:32
Speaker 3: then saying my team is terrible, we don't have anybody
• 48:37
Speaker 3: that can help my son play. We're going to go
• 48:40
Speaker 3: somewhere else, right, And because if.
• 48:44
Speaker 4: You're good enough to make it to the next level,
• 48:46
Speaker 4: it doesn't matter where you are, They're gonna find you.
• 48:49
Speaker 4: They're going to find you.
• 48:50
Speaker 3: I'm telling you, and I'm I'm going to say it again.
• 48:55
Speaker 3: I have never won a championship in junior high you sports,
• 49:02
  Speaker 3: junior high, high.
• 49:03
Speaker 4: School or college, and you made it and I made
• 49:06
  Speaker 4: it right.
• 49:07
Speaker 3: Don't tell me that they can't find you. I had
• 49:10
Speaker 3: literally scouts from every team position, coaches from almost every
• 49:19
Speaker 3: team coming to see me at Marshall. That's not bragging,
• 49:22
Speaker 3: that's telling you that you don't have to win. Winning
• 49:26
Speaker 3: is not the key. It is the work ethic that
• 49:29
Speaker 3: you have to build you into something that the next level,
• 49:34
Speaker 3: whatever that level is, is looking for you, going from
• 49:38
Speaker 3: high school to high school, to high school to high
• 49:40
Speaker 3: school to do what well.
• 49:42
Speaker 4: Sometimes does that even backfire in the in the eyes
• 49:44
Speaker 4: of an agent because they're looking at that player thinking, okay,
• 49:47
Speaker 4: they have no sense of like dedication, They don't have
• 49:53
Speaker 4: a sense of being able to take the heat when
• 49:57
Speaker 4: it comes on, and you're going to be taking the
• 49:58
Speaker 4: heat when you go to these different levels of collegiate
• 50:02
Speaker 4: or or or you know, professional play. You know you're
• 50:05
Speaker 4: gonna have to be able to endure losing and being
• 50:09
Speaker 4: able to get better at things without just jumping ship
• 50:13
Speaker 4: because you know, does that make sense?
• 50:15
Speaker 3: Yes, yes it does. If if you can't handle adversity,
• 50:20
Speaker 3: which is right, which is part of being losing and
• 50:24
Speaker 3: being able to show back up next week and play
• 50:27
Speaker 3: exactly as hard as you've played. If you can't do that,
• 50:32
Speaker 3: what makes you think that you're going to be able
• 50:34
Speaker 3: to go to a team that's winning and you're able
• 50:38
Speaker 3: to work hard enough to get into the lineup. They
• 50:41
Speaker 3: don't want you because the moment that you have a
• 50:45
Speaker 3: bad game, a team's beating you and you are not
• 50:48
Speaker 3: used to losing, you're you're punching out.
• 50:52
Speaker 4: And that and that's not what they want. No, that's
• 50:54
Speaker 4: not what they want to say at that.
• 50:55
  Speaker 3: They don't, they don't, they don't want. They don't want
• 51:00
Speaker 3: that kind of person. And everybody, everybody says they want
• 51:08
Speaker 3: to go D one. Everybody says they want to go
• 51:09
Speaker 3: D one. Sure, Okay, what do you expect when you
• 51:15
Speaker 3: get to a basketball team that's D one? What do
• 51:17
Speaker 3: you expect to go to a football team that's a
• 51:20
Speaker 3: D one program? Do you think that there's going to
• 51:24
Speaker 3: be just a bunch of average players there?
• 51:27
Speaker 4: Yeah, that's or it's going to be an easy like transition,
• 51:31
Speaker 4: Like it's not that way.
• 51:32
Speaker 3: I'm going to start as a freshman. Yeah, no, you're not.
• 51:35
Speaker 4: No, I don't care where you go.
• 51:37
Speaker 3: It's how that happen.
• 51:38
Speaker 4: It doesn't matter where you go. I mean, unless you're
• 51:40
Speaker 4: an exceptional freshman or something circumstances put you in that position.
• 51:44
Speaker 4: Somebody gets hurt. You're not doing it, You're not.
• 51:48
Speaker 3: Virginia Tech recruited me system. Yes, Virginia Tech recruited me
• 51:52
Speaker 3: all the way up till actual time to start making
• 51:56
Speaker 3: a decision. And they said they take me as a
• 51:58
Speaker 3: walk on. Okay, Well, I got no money to go,
• 52:00
Speaker 3: so that I go. I visited Marshall twice and the
• 52:05
Speaker 3: second time when I went back, it was with Sonny
• 52:07
Speaker 3: Randall and just him and and he had played in
• 52:12
Speaker 3: the NFL, so that that was enough for me. Yeah,
• 52:17
Speaker 3: that a gentleman who played for the NFL played receiver.
• 52:23
  Speaker 3: I'm a defensive back. He's going to be here. I'm
• 52:29
Speaker 3: this is where I'm going.
• 52:30
Speaker 4: At that point, he could develop your talent.
• 52:34
Speaker 3: He was going to be able to tell me whether
• 52:35
Speaker 3: or not he thought I could make it. Yeah. Now
• 52:38
Speaker 3: Virginia Tech had cut me out, so I didn't have
• 52:40
Speaker 3: anywhere else to go. I mean, I had some fair
• 52:42
Speaker 3: I had fair mind. I had some some smaller, smaller schools.
• 52:47
Speaker 3: Marshall was the biggest school that offered me at the end,
• 52:50
Speaker 3: at the end of the road with and and it
• 52:52
Speaker 3: was a losing team.
• 52:53
Speaker 4: Yeah, I chose to go there. And you still made it,
• 52:59
Speaker 4: I know, And probably. Like like you said, in the
• 53:02
Speaker 4: long run, it was better for you there because you
• 53:05
Speaker 4: had an ex NFL player that could give you, you know,
• 53:10
Speaker 4: advice on what you're doing right.
• 53:13
Speaker 3: At the end of every season, he told me the
• 53:15
Speaker 3: first three seasons, I'm a I'm the freshman player of
• 53:18
Speaker 3: the game. A week or season he tells me, I
• 53:24
Speaker 3: have no chance to playing at the NFL. After the team,
• 53:26
Speaker 3: after you know, you have your coach player meeting. He
• 53:29
Speaker 3: told me that for three years.
• 53:31
Speaker 4: Because he wanted to make you better, to stop working. Yeah, yeah,
• 53:36
Speaker 4: I love him for that. Yeah yeah.
• 53:38
Speaker 3: And I hated him when I walked out. What is
• 53:41
Speaker 3: he talking about? I got this award, I got this head.
• 53:47
Speaker 3: He would never let it, he would never sign.
• 53:50
Speaker 4: That's the sign of a good coach.
• 53:51
  Speaker 3: Absolutely.
• 53:52
Speaker 4: And you made the right decision by far.
• 53:54
Speaker 3: And I and I and and again. I'm telling you
• 53:57
Speaker 3: when you start talking about thinking about going toge or
• 54:00
Speaker 3: thinking about where you're going to play high school ball,
• 54:03
Speaker 3: which is it shouldn't be a situation. You better be
• 54:08
Speaker 3: able to handle whatever negativity that you think that you
• 54:12
Speaker 3: shouldn't go to your your normals. Let's say you you
• 54:15
Speaker 3: you live in South Tustan, you don't want to go
• 54:17
Speaker 3: South aust because you got an issue with the coach.
• 54:19
Speaker 4: All those you got to be able to handle the adversity.
• 54:24
Speaker 3: That's the adversity, that part that you got to go.
• 54:26
Speaker 4: That's the school you're supposed to have criticism. I mean,
• 54:29
Speaker 4: that's the thing. You don't just jump ship because that
• 54:31
Speaker 4: coach is trying to make you better, just like thank you.
• 54:34
Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean that's it. Think about it, parents, think
• 54:37
Speaker 3: about it. What is happening when they're cussing your kid out.
• 54:42
Speaker 3: They're cussing him out because they want to they want
• 54:45
Speaker 3: to win, and they want your kid to be better.
• 54:48
Speaker 4: Right, you know, bottom line it's it's it's not that
• 54:52
Speaker 4: they're being mean, no, no, and.
• 54:55
Speaker 3: Your kid can get better. But when you when you
• 55:00
Speaker 3: when you when you get the football season, when you
• 55:02
Speaker 3: get the basketball season, you get the baseball season, think
• 55:06
Speaker 3: about how much work you put in prior to yeah,
• 55:10
  Speaker 3: the season.
• 55:11
Speaker 4: Right, it's not about just the game.
• 55:13
Speaker 3: Yeah, because a lot of times you just waiting for
• 55:16
Speaker 3: football to show up. You're just waiting for basketball to
• 55:19
Speaker 3: show up. You're just waiting for baseball to show up.
• 55:21
Speaker 3: And you're gonna come out there and think like Okay,
• 55:23
Speaker 3: I'm gonna be great. You might be great here, right,
• 55:27
Speaker 3: but that's not gonna work. Maybe for a Division one team,
• 55:31
  Speaker 3: but there's a Division.
• 55:32
Speaker 4: Two especially if you don't if you can't take the heat, if.
• 55:34
Speaker 3: You can't take the heat, and you ain't putting any time.
• 55:36
Speaker 4: In right, right, how did we get away from the
• 55:40
  Speaker 4: World Series?
• 55:41
  Speaker 3: It is?
• 55:44
Speaker 4: Oh, you could always blame me. I don't really care you.
• 55:47
Speaker 4: Oh my goodness, that's hilarious.
• 55:49
  Speaker 3: But you know, I don't know. Again, I don't even
• 55:52
Speaker 3: know how we got there either.
• 55:54
Speaker 4: Oh no, because we were basically saying we feel like
• 55:57
Speaker 4: and we talked about the World Series, which was amazing,
• 56:00
Speaker 4: and the money and uh and how we feel like
• 56:03
Speaker 4: baseball players seem to have.
• 56:04
Speaker 3: More loyalty because you brought that.
• 56:06
Speaker 4: Yeah, well it just seems that way.
• 56:10
Speaker 3: So yeah, it is. It does have. It does have
• 56:14
Speaker 3: the loyalty that I think the other sports don't have.
• 56:17
Speaker 4: Well, let me ask you this question because I don't
• 56:19
Speaker 4: I know, we don't have much time left. But and
• 56:22
Speaker 4: the audience is probably like, thank thank thank you, thank you. No,
• 56:26
Speaker 4: how do they how do these teams generate this kind
• 56:28
Speaker 4: of revenue to pay for these players? And I mean,
• 56:32
Speaker 4: they don't have a salary cat where where's the money
• 56:34
Speaker 4: coming from? That's what I'm that's a legitimate question for me,
• 56:37
Speaker 4: and I like I said, come to the Facebook page
• 56:39
Speaker 4: if you have answers, But where's it coming from?
• 56:42
Speaker 3: I think in every sport it is TV revenue. I
• 56:46
Speaker 3: think that much. I think TV revenue. TV revenue is
• 56:51
  Speaker 3: huge today.
• 56:52
Speaker 4: So between you're talking like between three just three teams.
• 56:59
Speaker 4: You're talking about three hundred and twenty three I'm not
• 57:01
Speaker 4: doing the math. Three hundred twenty one million, two hundred
• 57:04
Speaker 4: fifty five million, that's just three teams.
• 57:06
Speaker 3: Yes, and again I think you got TV revenue, which
• 57:10
Speaker 3: is out of the park. You have, you have home games.
• 57:15
Speaker 4: I know the fans. I can't imagine what you pay
• 57:18
Speaker 4: at a baseball game for refreshments and tickets.
• 57:21
  Speaker 3: I think, I think there's there's just so much. There's
• 57:24
Speaker 3: so many small things that that we we we ignore,
• 57:30
Speaker 3: we ignore, Like when they talk about how many people
• 57:32
Speaker 3: in the stands they all paid, they all paid. Yeah,
• 57:37
Speaker 3: and you know that as you when you go to
• 57:39
Speaker 3: WVU games, you know, yeah, well.
• 57:42
Speaker 4: Yeah, but but yeah, I mean professional games are definitely
• 57:45
Speaker 4: more expensive. I mean my girlfriend and I when we
• 57:46
Speaker 4: went to the Pittsburgh game just a couple of weeks
• 57:48
Speaker 4: ago or last weekend. Actually it feels like a couple
• 57:50
  Speaker 4: of weeks.
• 57:51
  Speaker 7: Uh.
• 57:51
Speaker 4: It was unbelievable what we paid for, like a coke
• 57:54
Speaker 4: and a hot dog. I mean it was it was
• 57:56
Speaker 4: out of this world?
• 57:57
Speaker 3: Can can you can you tell me?
• 57:58
Speaker 4: Like, oh, okay, Like I think that the drink was
• 58:02
Speaker 4: like ten dollars and the hot dog was like fifteen?
• 58:06
Speaker 3: Are you kidding me?
• 58:07
Speaker 4: No, I'm not joking. And the tickets, I mean, well,
• 58:12
Speaker 4: we ended up getting like club level seats because it
• 58:15
Speaker 4: was cold and we wanted we only do this once
• 58:17
Speaker 4: like every three or four years. Our seats, which were
• 58:20
Speaker 4: actually some of the cheapest. We talked to people that
• 58:22
Speaker 4: were sitting around us. We got them on step up.
• 58:24
Speaker 4: Our seats were four hundred and twelve dollars apiece.
• 58:28
  Speaker 3: I don't have. There's not a sport that I know
• 58:31
Speaker 3: of that I would pay four hundred dollars to get into.
• 58:35
Speaker 4: Well, like I said, this was a gool. We had
• 58:38
Speaker 4: saved money. I don't want people to think I'm money
• 58:40
Speaker 4: bags here. I'm not, but I mean we had saved
• 58:42
Speaker 4: money for this trip. So yeah, we And I'm trying
• 58:45
Speaker 4: to look up what World Series tickets are.
• 58:51
Speaker 3: We'll we'll be closed out for the show by the
• 58:53
Speaker 3: time you find it.
• 58:54
Speaker 4: Okay, it's right here, and then we can close it out.
• 58:58
Speaker 4: The cheapest general admission tickets for Game seven in Toronto
• 59:01
Speaker 4: started around one four hundred and twenty to one thousand,
• 59:04
Speaker 4: five hundred and eighty eight, and average prices reaching over
• 59:07
Speaker 4: two thousand, three hundreds.
• 59:10
Speaker 3: Who is paying that to see that? How many people
• 59:13
  Speaker 3: are paying that?
• 59:14
Speaker 4: Some premium seats listed over twenty thousand.
• 59:19
  Speaker 3: That's unbelievable.
• 59:19
Speaker 4: Well that's you know, that's your movie stars and you
• 59:22
Speaker 4: know people that come from that kind of Yeah, there's
• 59:27
Speaker 4: just no way. There's just no way the average person
• 59:29
Speaker 4: is going to that game. No, no, And how could
• 59:34
Speaker 4: you go to more than more than one? Like I said,
• 59:37
Speaker 4: my girlfriend and I went to this game, and I
• 59:39
Speaker 4: couldn't go to another pro game this year. I mean,
• 59:41
  Speaker 4: that's it for me, Like I can't be I imagine
• 59:44
Speaker 4: I havn't season tickets for these games, and once again
• 59:47
Speaker 4: we're down another rabbit hole. But I mean, I'm just saying,
• 59:49
Speaker 4: like the money that the revenue generated by professional sports,
• 59:53
Speaker 4: all professional sports, just it's just mind blowing.
• 59:57
Speaker 3: It really is well. We were everywhere we got every week.
