Transcript
- 0:01Another week,
- 0:03another college coach gets paid millions
- 0:05to go away.
- 0:07We're going to talk about that next.
- 0:08Let's...
- 0:21What is going on, everybody?
- 0:22It is lunchtime.
- 0:23Meeting ended early.
- 0:24I'm hopping on for a little bit today.
- 0:48Megan,
- 0:49I thought it was canceled for today,
- 0:50but just got notification, so I'm hopeful.
- 0:53Well, here I am.
- 0:53I'm hoping.
- 0:55As you can see,
- 0:56I'm back to my old setup.
- 0:58Right now I have internet.
- 0:59I have everything plugged in.
- 1:01I'm hoping.
- 1:03I'm praying.
- 1:04I'm doing all that stuff to keep us
- 1:06going.
- 1:07So we are trying to get this thing
- 1:11going and off the road.
- 1:13And, you know, unknown and unknowable.
- 1:15Never know when we're going to pop back
- 1:16in here.
- 1:18So, yeah, super fun Monday already.
- 1:24Got some meetings out of the way.
- 1:25Meeting ended early.
- 1:26I thought,
- 1:27let's bump this up a little bit.
- 1:28Let's have some fun.
- 1:30Let's talk about some stuff that's going
- 1:32on.
- 1:32And if you did not see,
- 1:35LSU fired Brian Kelly yesterday,
- 1:38and they're negotiating his buyout,
- 1:40which is somewhere in the neighborhood of
- 1:42fifty four million dollars.
- 1:47fifty four million dollars to go away so
- 1:53now we have um billy napier at florida
- 1:57we have james franklin at penn state we
- 2:00have brian kelly at lsu mike gundy at
- 2:03oklahoma state all being paid to go away
- 2:08to do nothing like what the what the
- 2:11heck man
- 2:13That's a lot of money to be paid
- 2:16to do nothing.
- 2:17Now I know it's a high stress job.
- 2:19I know that like colleges are making a
- 2:23ton of money right now with NILs and
- 2:25the advertising and all of that kind of
- 2:27stuff.
- 2:28And the boosters are donating because they
- 2:30want their programs to be winners.
- 2:33But the pressure,
- 2:34the pressure to win when you're making
- 2:36that kind of money has got to be
- 2:38insane.
- 2:40Absolutely insane.
- 2:42And then,
- 2:45And then they, they, you,
- 2:46you're not as successful as they want you
- 2:48to be.
- 2:50Now LSU has been, LSU is weird.
- 2:55Like it's in the sec.
- 2:57It's very competitive year upon year.
- 2:59They're having an awful year.
- 3:01And because of that,
- 3:03let's get rid of Brian Kelly and let's
- 3:04start over.
- 3:05Now I was talking to Corey this morning.
- 3:08I never thought Brian Kelly was a good
- 3:09fit at LSU.
- 3:11Um,
- 3:12And so I think they were just looking
- 3:13for the first opportunity to get him out
- 3:16the door.
- 3:17And by not doing so well this year,
- 3:20gave them that opportunity and out the
- 3:22door he went.
- 3:25To the tune of fifty four million dollars.
- 3:32James Franklin was in the final four last
- 3:35year in January,
- 3:36not even twelve months ago.
- 3:41January, Final Four,
- 3:43one two-minute drive away from a national
- 3:45championship game, and he's out the door.
- 3:49The pressure that has to come with has
- 3:51got to be insane.
- 3:55But enough about college football.
- 3:56I just can't believe.
- 3:58I didn't even watch much this weekend.
- 4:00Now that Penn State is done, gosh,
- 4:04I barely tuned in.
- 4:06I caught up on some shows.
- 4:07I watched a movie.
- 4:09I hung out with my wife.
- 4:11We went to dinner with some friends.
- 4:14And it was a nice day.
- 4:15Nice Saturday.
- 4:17Maybe a little Home Depot.
- 4:18Maybe a little Bad Bath and Beyond.
- 4:20You know, nice Saturday.
- 4:27Corey,
- 4:28that's only because he wasn't a good fit.
- 4:29You can't get your ass handed to you
- 4:31by A&M at home on a Saturday night.
- 4:33That was the last straw.
- 4:35a and m's good and a and m
- 4:38has a ton of oil money being pumped
- 4:40into that school tons of oil money that
- 4:45college football is going to be flipped on
- 4:46its head it's not going to be your
- 4:48perennial powerhouses anymore it's going
- 4:50to be what universities have the most
- 4:53money to back their programs and uh
- 4:59And that's where it's at.
- 5:01A&M has all the oil money.
- 5:03Vanderbilt's in the top ten because
- 5:05Nashville has money.
- 5:08Penn State graduates the most CEOs in the
- 5:10country.
- 5:11They have a lot of money.
- 5:13That's what's going to happen.
- 5:14It's going to be where the money is,
- 5:16not where the perennial powerhouses are.
- 5:19Your name isn't going to get you the
- 5:20recruits anymore.
- 5:22You're going to have to money, money,
- 5:24money.
- 5:26That's what it is.
- 5:29Megan,
- 5:30my husband and I walk around Menards,
- 5:31so that sounds like a good date day.
- 5:34Yeah.
- 5:36I love Menards.
- 5:38That's just like a Midwest thing, I think.
- 5:39Menards is, though.
- 5:41My daughter used to work there,
- 5:42which was awesome.
- 5:43We got a great discount.
- 5:51Corey Leonard speaking like a typical
- 5:53Homer fan.
- 5:55Doesn't matter if A&M is good.
- 5:56The culture in the locker room was
- 5:58non-existent.
- 6:03All right.
- 6:03Just a little bit ago,
- 6:04Rogue announced their events for this
- 6:07weekend.
- 6:08Well, a handful of the events.
- 6:11I'm going to go ahead and pull those
- 6:12up.
- 6:16We'll take a look at them.
- 6:18I am not a programming guy.
- 6:19I don't,
- 6:20but I'm going to just show you what's
- 6:22on tap.
- 6:24They're all named after like Scottish
- 6:26things.
- 6:27So event one, we have Nessie,
- 6:31a hundred and sixty double unders with an
- 6:32eighty meter handstand walk,
- 6:34sixty GHD sit ups,
- 6:36forty box jump overs and twenty or sixteen
- 6:39log bar muscle ups.
- 6:41So that is the log muscle up.
- 6:45There it is right there.
- 6:53That's what pirates say when they get hit,
- 6:55isn't it?
- 6:55Menards.
- 6:57Yeah.
- 7:01Event two.
- 7:04Three rounds, four time.
- 7:07Five log clean and press.
- 7:08There's the other log movement.
- 7:10Forty-foot yoke carry and one power stair.
- 7:15So I'm assuming they're going to get the
- 7:17handle apparatus.
- 7:19You're going to have to lift the weights
- 7:21up the stairs.
- 7:24So there we go.
- 7:31Corey,
- 7:31everything is reading that my mic is on.
- 7:37I will double check.
- 7:42Maybe not.
- 7:50Can you hear me now?
- 7:55Can you hear me now?
- 7:58It was on my...
- 8:00So the problem is I can't see.
- 8:03Okay, better.
- 8:05Okay, good.
- 8:07Yeah.
- 8:08Having set up everything... Okay,
- 8:11there we go.
- 8:11Thank you, guys.
- 8:15All right, so...
- 8:17The power stair is the wooden stairs where
- 8:20they have the handle and the weight
- 8:22stacked up.
- 8:23They have to lift the weight onto the
- 8:24next stair.
- 8:25Up you go, up you go,
- 8:26up you go.
- 8:29So that looks like William Wallace.
- 8:30Event three is the tax collector.
- 8:33Four rounds, ten back squat.
- 8:35Their back squats are always at Rogue.
- 8:37Ten dumbbell snatch at one hundred and
- 8:39seventy and ten sandbag cleans at one
- 8:42fifty one hundred.
- 8:44So those are your first three events on
- 8:46Friday.
- 8:50Then we move into Saturday.
- 8:53We have the crux,
- 8:54which is a twenty eighteen calorie row and
- 8:57then fifteen twelve nine six three bench
- 8:59press and one horizontal pegboard each
- 9:03round.
- 9:05I think that one's interesting.
- 9:06I like that one.
- 9:10Then event five is the dual five and
- 9:14they have not announced that as usual.
- 9:17That is TBA.
- 9:19And event six is Pay the Piper,
- 9:22a buy-in of a thousand meter ski erg
- 9:24into twelve nine six three one wall facing
- 9:27handstand pushups and deadlifts.
- 9:30And we don't have a weight on those.
- 9:37Then we finish out the weekend nine events
- 9:41for this weekend with event seven Granite
- 9:44City TBA.
- 9:46We don't really know what that is.
- 9:48Event eight is double bogey,
- 9:50ten rounds of overhead squats and six
- 9:53burpee over the bar.
- 9:54That's going to be fast.
- 9:56And then event nine is TBA,
- 9:59the final event of the weekend.
- 10:03So,
- 10:04any thoughts on the workouts for Rogue?
- 10:09Granite City involved a heavy stone.
- 10:11I mean...
- 10:15It's Iceland that's really known for the
- 10:17stones.
- 10:18So I don't know.
- 10:19It'll be interesting to see what they do
- 10:21here.
- 10:24It's got to be some kind of equipment
- 10:26or something that we've never seen, Jeff.
- 10:29I'm sure of it.
- 10:33So those are the Rogue workouts for this
- 10:37coming weekend.
- 10:39Again,
- 10:40they are offering the premium package of
- 10:46the premium package of broadcast where you
- 10:49can actually move the camera from lane to
- 10:51lane and watch what you want to watch.
- 10:55They are tailoring back the tailgate party
- 10:59instead of going all day.
- 11:01And it will not be hosted by Pat
- 11:03Sherwood this year.
- 11:04It's going to be hosted by Zach Tellender.
- 11:08Um, which,
- 11:10which I found fascinating actually,
- 11:12that they're going outside the CrossFit
- 11:14space for, um,
- 11:16a guy hosting that who has a ton
- 11:18of followers on YouTube.
- 11:21Um, and that,
- 11:22that's probably a good way to open up.
- 11:27open up the door to more people to
- 11:29come in and watch because people will come
- 11:31just to watch Zach.
- 11:32And then, and then we'll see what,
- 11:35what that translates into,
- 11:37into views and such.
- 11:47Jeff Baco sounds very strong man-esque.
- 11:49That's Granite City.
- 11:50Yes, it does.
- 12:45So it was good for fifteen minutes and
- 12:47then I lost the internet.
- 12:50So there we go.
- 12:52Isn't that awesome?
- 12:55Jeff Beko says that Zach is the Pat
- 12:59McAfee of the fitness space.
- 13:01That's probably a good thing.
- 13:04I think Pat has done a lot for
- 13:05College Game Day and he's done a lot
- 13:07for the podcasting world,
- 13:08especially in the sports scene.
- 13:11So I think that's a good thing if
- 13:13we get someone like that in.
- 13:21Um, so there we go.
- 13:23Sorry that I had to jump back on
- 13:24the phone.
- 13:25I, I hate this.
- 13:27Um, I wish things were better.
- 13:30Um,
- 13:31I've got to figure this out because I
- 13:34ran my laptop all morning and it never
- 13:37left the internet.
- 13:37The minute I came down here and plug
- 13:39stuff into it, then I'd lose stuff.
- 13:41So there we go.
- 13:50So what else we want to talk about?
- 13:52Last night on the show,
- 13:53we were talking a little bit about TRT
- 13:55and whether it was legal to get a
- 14:00therapeutic exemption for TRT.
- 14:04Extra sloppy was in the chat last night.
- 14:06He said he applied for it back in
- 14:09the day.
- 14:12And he sent me what he had to
- 14:14fill out to get a therapeutic exemption
- 14:17for TRT.
- 14:18And it and it is very specific to
- 14:22issues you would experience with TRT that
- 14:25you had to prove that you had those
- 14:28issues in addition.
- 14:31Tons of labs, lots of analysis,
- 14:35and he actually said the legwork was so
- 14:38much that he decided it wasn't worth it
- 14:40and he wasn't good enough to make it.
- 14:45Worth the effort to go through the
- 14:46process.
- 14:48I'm still digging into it because it is
- 14:50pages and pages and pages of information.
- 14:53But it is something I want to talk
- 14:55about later in the week as I kind
- 14:57of dig in and learn more.
- 14:59But I was blown away at that TRT
- 15:03is an allowed therapeutic exemption,
- 15:09but it is unreal what all you have
- 15:11to submit to get that approved.
- 15:14And the email even says, like,
- 15:16it is a long, arduous process.
- 15:19and it is very hard to get approved
- 15:21for it.
- 15:24I'd love to get Curtis on from CrossFit
- 15:30to talk us through that,
- 15:32and I'll see what I can do in
- 15:33that direction.
- 15:38I watched the Matt Torres interview that
- 15:41everybody was talking about last night as
- 15:42well.
- 15:43I thought it was really good.
- 15:47It gets into a lot of coachy type
- 15:52stuff, like coaching elite athletes,
- 15:55what that's like, how you do that,
- 15:58things of that nature.
- 16:00He did talk about prioritization of the
- 16:03season and that he would never tell an
- 16:05athlete what is their priority and what
- 16:07they should do.
- 16:09But it does seem like his athlete's
- 16:11priority is the CrossFit Games season.
- 16:14And it's weird because he talked about
- 16:16rogue being the end of this season,
- 16:18even though WFP has one more stop to
- 16:22go.
- 16:24Um, and I found that, um,
- 16:25pretty enlightening that it's not even on
- 16:28the forethought of his mind that that is
- 16:30part of this season.
- 16:32Um, I think that's very telling, um,
- 16:35as someone who coaches a lot of the
- 16:38top athletes, um,
- 16:43I thought that I thought that was very
- 16:44telling.
- 16:46Jonathan,
- 16:47what I'm what I'm saying is Matt Torres
- 16:50as a coach views rogue as the end
- 16:53of his season with his athletes and then
- 16:56they start their offseason.
- 17:00I'm not saying that that is what
- 17:01officially is going on.
- 17:03I'm telling you how he views it as
- 17:05a coach of elite athletes.
- 17:10From his words.
- 17:16Um, no, he, he,
- 17:18he looks at rogue as part of the
- 17:19season.
- 17:24So anyway, um, it was really interesting.
- 17:30Um,
- 17:31And he really talked a lot about not
- 17:33trying to do too much as a coach,
- 17:36that there are people out there that know
- 17:37more than he does about different
- 17:39subjects,
- 17:40and that he would never work with an
- 17:42athlete on nutrition.
- 17:44He'd never work with PT.
- 17:46He has people special to do those kinds
- 17:49of things.
- 17:50And in fact,
- 17:51he decided that Dallin needed more help
- 17:54with running than he could provide.
- 17:57And...
- 17:59and has got him a specific running coach
- 18:02now,
- 18:03which I thought was really interesting and
- 18:06very telling about the kind of coach he
- 18:08is.
- 18:11He did confirm he moved to Nashville,
- 18:14and he is going to be a full
- 18:15remote coach now.
- 18:17And...
- 18:20and that he was open to the possibility
- 18:23of when his athletes came into town to
- 18:26do kind of like a competition walkthrough
- 18:29with Proven,
- 18:30like a month out of a major competition,
- 18:33to go a little bit of head-to-head to
- 18:35help both teams out.
- 18:37And I think that would be interesting if
- 18:40that happened.
- 18:41I'm not sure every camp is in the
- 18:45same –
- 18:48shares the same position as Torres does.
- 18:52So I think that is an interesting concept.
- 18:58There was some big news that Bailey Martin
- 19:02actually won the Down Under Throwdown in
- 19:06Australia.
- 19:07If you remember correctly,
- 19:09at the semifinal event at Torian,
- 19:11after the first event,
- 19:13he suffered a heart-related issue and was
- 19:17pulled from competition.
- 19:19And then they found out that he had
- 19:21some issues going on and had to basically
- 19:24shut it down for a few months to
- 19:26get his heart rate back down.
- 19:28Well,
- 19:28now he's been cleared for competition and
- 19:30he won his first competition back,
- 19:34which is the Down Under Throwdown.
- 19:36So really happy that he is, again,
- 19:39healthy enough to compete.
- 19:43Super stoked for him that that has
- 19:44happened and that he is back to doing
- 19:48what he loves and that he's healthy and
- 19:51able to do so.
- 19:53I think that means a lot for him.
- 19:59And the last thing I wanted to talk
- 20:01about is this just something that popped
- 20:03into my head.
- 20:04You know, athletes are creatures of habit.
- 20:08They do things because they do it over
- 20:12and over again because it's what makes
- 20:13them feel comfortable,
- 20:14especially in a competition setting.
- 20:17And so I had a thought.
- 20:21I had a thought that if Jason goes
- 20:24to Rogue and Dallin's not there,
- 20:28As it has turned out that they have
- 20:30become quite the buddies, best friends,
- 20:33whatever you want to call it.
- 20:35They talk smack a lot.
- 20:38Will it feel different enough for Jason
- 20:41that he will feel uncomfortable at Rogue
- 20:45without having his friend there to talk
- 20:47smack with?
- 20:50You know, I watch a lot of sports.
- 20:52Pitchers won't step on the white line.
- 20:55They hop over it.
- 20:57People wear the same socks.
- 20:59People don't wash their uniforms until
- 21:01they lose.
- 21:05There's so many superstitions,
- 21:07so many habits.
- 21:09People eat the same meal every time they
- 21:11compete.
- 21:12And so I just wonder, like,
- 21:14someone that has been hanging out
- 21:17together, talking smack in the back,
- 21:20doing things together like Jason and
- 21:22Dallin have,
- 21:23and now that Dallin can't go because of
- 21:25the Rabdo situation,
- 21:28is Jason affected by that because it
- 21:31messes up with his routine?
- 21:35Just a question I was pondering and
- 21:37thought was interesting.
- 21:41Any thoughts on that at all?
- 21:49I mean,
- 21:50I'm not even an athlete at this point,
- 21:52and I wear the same... Well,
- 21:55when the Bears were winning four in a
- 21:56row,
- 21:56I wore the same shirt every Sunday for
- 22:00their games.
- 22:03And yesterday,
- 22:04that shirt was in the laundry,
- 22:05and so I couldn't wear it,
- 22:06and they lost.
- 22:09So it's all because I didn't wear the
- 22:10right shirt yesterday that the Bears lost.
- 22:13So I can only imagine how athletes who...
- 22:18get into those routines really feel just a
- 22:25thought.
- 22:32So I am really fascinated about this TRT
- 22:34thing.
- 22:35I can't wait to dive into it a
- 22:36little bit more.
- 22:37I want to look at the rule book
- 22:39and see what it says specifically,
- 22:42but this email from Curtis, um,
- 22:49craig says that grayson will keep jason
- 22:53focused i think is what he meant to
- 22:55say i don't think it's about being focused
- 23:00i think it's about feeling comfortable so
- 23:13that that's what i think is interesting
- 23:21so we'll see because i think feeling
- 23:25comfortable sometimes is more important
- 23:27than feeling focused
- 23:43So grant says the rule book says no
- 23:45exceptions for that's what I need to look
- 23:48into last night on our Sunday night show.
- 23:53And earlier in this show,
- 23:55I got an email from a listener who
- 23:58applied for a therapeutic exemption for.
- 24:04And I just don't know how long ago
- 24:06it was.
- 24:09And so I've been reading the email.
- 24:11It is very,
- 24:12very long in all the stuff that you
- 24:15have to provide to get that exemption and
- 24:21the lab tests and the results.
- 24:24And you must have certain conditions to
- 24:27get the exemption.
- 24:29And I don't know how old that exemption
- 24:31was.
- 24:32it came from curtis at crossfit hq to
- 24:35this individual with no guarantees they
- 24:37would get approved and they needed to
- 24:39provide and it was a laundry list of
- 24:42things back to hq to show why they
- 24:46needed it so i need to read the
- 24:51rule book for myself again just to see
- 24:54what it says specifically um
- 24:59But this person did apply for an exemption
- 25:04and was given the application to do so
- 25:07for TRT.
- 25:11But again, no guarantees,
- 25:14super long list of things that you had
- 25:16to clear to get approved for that.
- 25:22And it came with if you got approved,
- 25:25a lot of monitoring.
- 25:31So that's, it just,
- 25:35it kind of came up out of the
- 25:36blue last night on the show.
- 25:39And the,
- 25:39this person emailed me the email they
- 25:42received from CrossFit when they applied.
- 25:45And that's what I'm just digging into now.
- 25:47And I've been busy all morning with
- 25:49meetings.
- 25:50So I haven't been able to dig into
- 25:51the rule book specifically.
- 25:53And I really don't even know the year
- 25:54that this person applied.
- 25:56I need to find that out.
- 25:58um because maybe it was allowed at one
- 26:01point and they've shut that down so but
- 26:07it was fascinating to see all the stuff
- 26:09you had to provide when and if it
- 26:12was a part of the exemption list um
- 26:22and it gets very specific
- 26:25about a lot of the things in the
- 26:28male genitalia area um about like semen
- 26:35counts about all kinds of things the labs
- 26:39are just where it that you had to
- 26:42provide were pretty pretty in depth um
- 26:47So it wasn't just like free testosterone
- 26:50and testosterone levels.
- 26:53It was very specific about the condition
- 26:55you have.
- 26:57What were your semen counts?
- 26:59Do you have a hard time getting erections?
- 27:02And all those were the questions on there.
- 27:12uh trish says i need some trt titty
- 27:17replacement therapy uh i'm sure that's
- 27:20coming out soon i'm sure sure big pharma
- 27:25is right on that one trish says those
- 27:34were uh first date questions yeah i guess
- 27:37so gotta be sure gotta be sure you're
- 27:40guys potent
- 27:51Um, but yeah,
- 27:54I will share with you what I've discovered
- 27:57as I look into this more and more,
- 27:58but, um,
- 27:59I just was really fascinated about, um,
- 28:04all the questions they asked,
- 28:05I guess that's all.
- 28:09So fun stuff.
- 28:11Well, again,
- 28:12I'm going to do a short show today.
- 28:14Uh,
