Transcript
- 0:06SPEAKER_02: Ten months ago, Clemson opened a season with national championship expectations, and they finished 7-6.
- 0:14SPEAKER_02: Saturday night, they walk into Baton Rouge unranked.
- 0:17SPEAKER_02: Sold out Tiger Stadium, college game day on site, Lane Kiffin's LSU debut, and a Clemson quarterback who started exactly one game in his life.
- 0:27SPEAKER_02: Last week we hit a 16-1 parlay.
- 0:30SPEAKER_02: Stick around.
- 0:31SPEAKER_02: This week we're going 2-4-2.
- 0:33SPEAKER_02: Over to you, Mr.
- 0:35SPEAKER_02: Wade.
- 0:41SPEAKER_01: Believe in us.
- 0:42SPEAKER_01: I mean house money all year.
- 0:43SPEAKER_01: It's true.
- 0:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 0:44SPEAKER_01: If you tailed us in week zero, the whole season's been subsidized.
- 0:49SPEAKER_01: Free rolled.
- 0:52SPEAKER_01: No way to think about it.
- 0:55SPEAKER_00: But you couldn't hit one for like 10 weeks.
- 0:57SPEAKER_00: Like parlay is undefeated.
- 1:02SPEAKER_00: True.
- 1:02SPEAKER_00: One for one.
- 1:04SPEAKER_01: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Mike Blitz.
- 1:07SPEAKER_01: I'm your host, Mike Wade, my co-host Mark Franz and Darren Stedman.
- 1:10SPEAKER_01: Evening, gentlemen.
- 1:10SPEAKER_01: How are we doing?
- 1:11SPEAKER_01: Happy Tuesday.
- 1:12SPEAKER_01: Week one, baby.
- 1:14SPEAKER_00: Man, it's um it is blazing hot out there, but it is September.
- 1:19SPEAKER_00: It is September.
- 1:20SPEAKER_00: And uh last thing I did before uh right now was check the weather report.
- 1:26SPEAKER_00: And on Saturday, guess what happens?
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: Drops 10 degrees.
- 1:29SPEAKER_00: Oh, thank God.
- 1:31SPEAKER_00: And getting a little a little cool in the air and football season is here.
- 1:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:35SPEAKER_01: You know, as a bunch of fun as I had at UVA and Charlottesville, Scott Stadium.
- 1:38SPEAKER_01: I prefer not to sit in Scott's Stadium 100 degree weather.
- 1:40SPEAKER_01: So kudos to the 10 degree temperature job.
- 1:42SPEAKER_01: Shout out uh weather coming through for the good folks in in the stands for week one.
- 1:48SPEAKER_02: Good stuff.
- 1:49SPEAKER_02: Never never would this Midwesterner have thought I would live in a place where it is over 100 degrees in September and not be like Phoenix, Arizona.
- 1:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's straight up Looney Tunes.
- 2:00SPEAKER_01: It's true.
- 2:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah, good stuff.
- 2:02SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 2:02SPEAKER_01: Well, so what we're gonna do tonight, we're gonna have two segments for you.
- 2:05SPEAKER_01: One, we're gonna do a new segment called Punt or Go For It, which I'll explain in a minute.
- 2:08SPEAKER_01: In a minute, the second thing we're gonna do is we're gonna preview week one.
- 2:11SPEAKER_01: We're gonna kind of run through, kind of meander through the slate.
- 2:13SPEAKER_01: It's a full slate.
- 2:14SPEAKER_01: This is unlike last week, which is only, I think, nine games.
- 2:17SPEAKER_01: This is week one.
- 2:17SPEAKER_01: There's like 50, 60 games.
- 2:19SPEAKER_01: We are not gonna get to all of them.
- 2:20SPEAKER_01: We're gonna get to the dozen or so that we think are interesting.
- 2:23SPEAKER_01: We're gonna talk about them.
- 2:24SPEAKER_01: Um, but we're gonna have a good time.
- 2:25SPEAKER_01: We'll put together a parlay.
- 2:26SPEAKER_01: Uh, hopefully we get lucky again.
- 2:28SPEAKER_01: Who knows?
- 2:28SPEAKER_01: Um, and we're gonna have a little bit of fun.
- 2:30SPEAKER_01: Before we jump in, anything else for the good of the order, gentlemen?
- 2:32SPEAKER_01: How's how's your week been?
- 2:33SPEAKER_01: I haven't seen you all in two days.
- 2:34SPEAKER_01: Anything new to report?
- 2:38SPEAKER_02: Oh, nothing new over here.
- 2:39SPEAKER_00: Still catching up on hydration from uh Saturday.
- 2:42SPEAKER_01: Yep, did Big Ten Four.
- 2:44SPEAKER_02: Good stuff.
- 2:45SPEAKER_01: All right, let's jump to the new segment.
- 2:46SPEAKER_01: Oh, go ahead, Mark.
- 2:47SPEAKER_02: Oh, I've got one for you.
- 2:48SPEAKER_02: Speaking of hydration, tonight I have uh uh cherry float coke zero.
- 2:53SPEAKER_02: Oh well.
- 2:54SPEAKER_02: And I'm going to take that bad boy and add in what I like to have as an airplane bottle of Crown Royal.
- 3:01SPEAKER_02: So we took this one to Scott Stadium and I decided to only have two little bevies before the game started.
- 3:06SPEAKER_02: So I thought I would save my third for our show tonight.
- 3:10SPEAKER_02: Well, thank you for sharing that with us.
- 3:11SPEAKER_02: That'd be the royal.
- 3:13SPEAKER_01: Good for you.
- 3:14SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and it's been in the freezer, so it's all wet and hard to like open.
- 3:17SPEAKER_02: Let's get it with my mouth.
- 3:19SPEAKER_01: Perfect.
- 3:20SPEAKER_02: There we go.
- 3:23SPEAKER_01: Overcome.
- 3:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 3:24SPEAKER_00: Be resourceful.
- 3:25SPEAKER_00: It's one of the things that it looks and feels like it's Saturday morning on campus, is what you're doing right now.
- 3:31SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 3:33SPEAKER_02: Yeah, pouring air with the biggest.
- 3:36SPEAKER_02: Yeah, this was in somebody's bra they snuck into the game exactly too many years.
- 3:40SPEAKER_01: That's right.
- 3:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah, now they sell beer in the stadium.
- 3:42SPEAKER_01: Kids these days, they don't know what it was like to sneak the boobs in the in the football stadium.
- 3:46SPEAKER_01: It was a grind.
- 3:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 3:48SPEAKER_01: Now they complain about service internet signal in the stadium.
- 3:51SPEAKER_01: Give me a break.
- 3:52SPEAKER_01: Anyway, moving on.
- 3:54SPEAKER_01: I do hope you're enjoying your uh crowd and uh cherry coke.
- 3:57SPEAKER_01: It sounds delicious.
- 3:58SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 3:59SPEAKER_01: So uh first segment tonight, we're doing something new.
- 4:00SPEAKER_01: It's called punt or go for.
- 4:02SPEAKER_01: I actually came up with it a couple weeks ago.
- 4:03SPEAKER_01: We're gonna might do it a couple times this season.
- 4:05SPEAKER_01: It's actually a pretty simple concept.
- 4:06SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna lay a takeout for Mark and Darren.
- 4:09SPEAKER_01: Uh it's gonna be kind of a hot take, kind of a bold prediction, kind of a plant your flag in the ground, just assertive statement, kind of calling your shot.
- 4:17SPEAKER_01: And you have two options.
- 4:19SPEAKER_01: You can punt, I don't like that.
- 4:21SPEAKER_01: That's ridiculous, never gonna happen, or of course, go for it.
- 4:25SPEAKER_01: Love it, that's gonna work out.
- 4:27SPEAKER_01: I'm not sure it's good, but I want I like it more than I don't like it, so I'm gonna ride with it.
- 4:31SPEAKER_01: Really up to you.
- 4:32SPEAKER_01: You have two options punt or go for it.
- 4:34SPEAKER_01: It's that simple.
- 4:34SPEAKER_01: Just get a kind of way of talk about some of the things where these are all based on overreactions to week zero action.
- 4:40SPEAKER_01: So I've got five takes for you I want to share with you.
- 4:44SPEAKER_01: Number one, Bill Belichick and North Carolina are back on track, meaning the off-the-field shenanigans are over, seven wins or more coming in this season for the Targos.
- 4:59SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna punt.
- 5:01SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna punt on that one.
- 5:03SPEAKER_02: Tell me why.
- 5:03SPEAKER_02: I mean, 15 points in Dublin is not my doesn't get my ringing endorsement of a season.
- 5:09SPEAKER_02: Um had they put up a better if there was more than five points in the last three quarters, maybe I'd go for it, but I'm gonna punt on that one.
- 5:18SPEAKER_02: I don't think I don't think they're proving it yet.
- 5:21SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 5:22SPEAKER_00: So preseason win total, North Carolina Tar Heels, four and a half games.
- 5:27SPEAKER_00: I think Mike, you just said seven.
- 5:28SPEAKER_00: I said seven or more.
- 5:29SPEAKER_00: I want to oh, I want above five hundred seasons as well.
- 5:32SPEAKER_01: Man, I gotta see.
- 5:33SPEAKER_00: Yeah, right.
- 5:34SPEAKER_00: I gotta see, I gotta see the schedule.
- 5:36SPEAKER_00: Do you know anything about their schedule coming up?
- 5:38SPEAKER_00: I'm I'm grasping at straws here, but I would have said punt um a long time ago, but I'm grasping here.
- 5:47SPEAKER_00: Let me grab the schedule for you real quick.
- 5:49SPEAKER_00: Let's take a look at that.
- 5:52SPEAKER_00: Let's see what they're looking at.
- 5:54SPEAKER_00: Yeah, see it.
- 5:54SPEAKER_00: They got a they got a layup next week.
- 5:57SPEAKER_00: I mean, I'll say a layup because they did win a game.
- 6:00SPEAKER_00: East Tennessee State.
- 6:02SPEAKER_00: Alright, here we go.
- 6:03SPEAKER_00: Clemson, Notre Dame Pitt.
- 6:06SPEAKER_00: I got three losses.
- 6:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 6:08SPEAKER_00: So they've got two wins so far.
- 6:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 6:11SPEAKER_00: Let's say they beat Duke at Duke.
- 6:14SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 6:14SPEAKER_00: Let's say they win at home at Syracuse.
- 6:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah, they're falling apart.
- 6:19SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 6:19SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 6:20SPEAKER_00: Alright, let's um let's give them a loss uh Miami at home.
- 6:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 6:25SPEAKER_00: That's there's five wins if everything goes nicely, and then they play Yukon for a sixth win.
- 6:31SPEAKER_01: Absolutely.
- 6:31SPEAKER_01: Yukon's gonna get the swing game is pit, probably.
- 6:36SPEAKER_00: Yeah, swing game is pit.
- 6:38SPEAKER_00: And so get this.
- 6:39SPEAKER_00: Louisville, Virginia, let's say they take some losses.
- 6:41SPEAKER_00: Their last game is NC State, the team that scored eight points in front of our face and looked like a JV squad.
- 6:49SPEAKER_00: Seven wins for the Tar Heels?
- 6:52SPEAKER_00: I mean six wins for the Tar Heels.
- 6:54SPEAKER_01: This is why you have the headset, Darren.
- 6:55SPEAKER_01: This is why the head coach has make tough decisions.
- 6:57SPEAKER_01: Are you punting or are you going for it, Darren?
- 6:59SPEAKER_00: Do you get three minutes to make the decision if you're a hit coach?
- 7:02SPEAKER_01: No TV timeouts.
- 7:03SPEAKER_01: No, no, we're not gonna get commercial.
- 7:06SPEAKER_00: No, punt.
- 7:07SPEAKER_00: I go with my gut, punt.
- 7:09SPEAKER_00: I'm here on this podcast.
- 7:10SPEAKER_01: I got the luxury of research time.
- 7:13SPEAKER_01: I'll be the one to zag.
- 7:14SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna go for it.
- 7:15SPEAKER_01: I think what what UNC did on defense is better than that.
- 7:18SPEAKER_01: I mean, obviously, I've got real I've got real reservations about Sonny Dykes and uh uh the Harvard transfer quarterback, that really did look bad.
- 7:25SPEAKER_01: And the play calling was weird, but I just think of Bill Belichick team.
- 7:28SPEAKER_01: I think the circus was so bad.
- 7:30SPEAKER_01: I think even Bill Belichick realized that's not gonna happen.
- 7:32SPEAKER_01: So I think the first one's a gimme.
- 7:34SPEAKER_01: I think the Jordan stuff is probably mostly over.
- 7:37SPEAKER_01: I don't think that's gonna happen.
- 7:39SPEAKER_01: Two, they're gonna play good defense.
- 7:41SPEAKER_01: Bill Belichick, say what you will, no matter what, the man plays good defense.
- 7:44SPEAKER_01: If Billy Edwards and my man Bobby Petrino, who's offensive, can just get a little bit out of the out of the uh the Ohio State transfer tight end who had a nice day.
- 7:52SPEAKER_01: There are some things there I can squint and see 7-5.
- 7:54SPEAKER_01: So I'm gonna go, I'm gonna go for it on the first take of the night.
- 7:58SPEAKER_00: You know, I'd feel more confident actually with four four wins.
- 8:01SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 8:02SPEAKER_00: I'd still hit that, I'd still take that preseason under.
- 8:06SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 8:06SPEAKER_00: Uh yeah.
- 8:07SPEAKER_01: All right, number two.
- 8:08SPEAKER_01: Speaking of the ACC, Virginia is the biggest threat to Miami in the ACC over SMU, Louisville, and Clemson.
- 8:15SPEAKER_01: Virginia is the biggest threat to Miami in the ACC.
- 9:00SPEAKER_00: Uh I gotta punt that one as well.
- 9:03SPEAKER_00: Um, I know I saw them with my own two eyes, but I've yet to see the rest.
- 9:09SPEAKER_00: So, you know, it's kind of like I'm taking the field here.
- 9:12SPEAKER_00: Uh, I think there's a better team out there waiting, and don't forget, I think there's another team on that list with James Franklin at the helm and Ethan Grunkemeyer, who's uh ready to ready to pop.
- 9:24SPEAKER_00: And so, yeah, Virginia Tech's gonna play Miami as well late in the season, late as after everybody's gelled.
- 9:31SPEAKER_00: So, yeah, I just gotta see it with my eyes.
- 9:33SPEAKER_00: You know, I'll take the field.
- 9:34SPEAKER_00: Uh, is there a team better than UVA?
- 9:36SPEAKER_00: Sure, it might be Louisville SMU, which we're gonna see this weekend.
- 9:39SPEAKER_00: Yeah, Virginia Virginia Tech might gel by then.
- 9:42SPEAKER_00: So punt.
- 9:43SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 9:44SPEAKER_00: Punt.
- 9:46SPEAKER_02: Uh I I'm gonna go for it.
- 9:48SPEAKER_02: I think that that UVA offensive line dominated.
- 9:51SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it is.
- 9:52SPEAKER_02: Uh they looked really good.
- 9:54SPEAKER_02: And I until somebody else steps up and proves it, and and again, we'll see with Louisville this weekend, but right now, I I think it's UVA's uh they're the number two.
- 10:04SPEAKER_01: The fun thing about this take is we'll should get a really good glimpse glimpse at it, probably probably possibly this weekend.
- 10:09SPEAKER_01: LSU plays Clemson.
- 10:10SPEAKER_01: If you give LSU the win, that's gonna knock Clemson down, at least a small peg.
- 10:14SPEAKER_01: SMU should take care of full uh sorry, if Florida State up upsets SMU, that really I mean we don't nobody has any confidence in Florida State.
- 10:21SPEAKER_01: SMU if SMU's with Florida State, they're not nearly a threat we think they are, and they're only a three-point dog.
- 10:26SPEAKER_01: That could happen.
- 10:27SPEAKER_01: And then you look at Ole Miss Louisville.
- 10:28SPEAKER_01: If Ole Miss is a touchdown favorite, let's say they win by 21.
- 10:31SPEAKER_01: So all of a sudden Louisville, SMU, and Clemson are not looking that good, UVA might be the bell of the ball 72 hours from right now, or in 96 hours, excuse me.
- 10:41SPEAKER_01: Like we could get a pretty good, we're gonna get a good chance to get a really good view of this real fast.
- 10:48SPEAKER_01: On the flip side, of course, if Louisville comes out and shocks all miss and really looks good, then might not be so good.
- 10:53SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna go for it.
- 10:54SPEAKER_01: Uh I like what I saw.
- 10:55SPEAKER_01: I'm drinking the boat for Beau Kool-Aid.
- 10:57SPEAKER_01: Hope that kid can stay healthy.
- 10:58SPEAKER_01: Somebody run the somebody else run the ball, please.
- 11:00SPEAKER_01: Uh, give me uh give me the go for it.
- 11:02SPEAKER_01: I'm I'm feeling risky tonight.
- 11:04SPEAKER_01: Feeling risky on a Tuesday.
- 11:05SPEAKER_00: Got me in some tight spots here, though, Michael.
- 11:07SPEAKER_00: This is good good stuff.
- 11:08SPEAKER_01: All right, got you back on that one, Wade.
- 11:11SPEAKER_01: Number three, I think we're all going for this one.
- 11:13SPEAKER_01: Florida State is headed for another disaster season.
- 11:17SPEAKER_00: Fire, noble.
- 11:19SPEAKER_00: Go for it, go for it for it.
- 11:21SPEAKER_00: Yeah, easy go for it.
- 11:23SPEAKER_00: Easy go for it.
- 11:24SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 11:25SPEAKER_00: Especially after I was vindicated with my prediction this weekend.
- 11:30SPEAKER_00: They got ants in their pants.
- 11:32SPEAKER_00: They got they got weird vibes, they got whispers in the hallways.
- 11:36SPEAKER_00: Um, Norvell is, you know, eating lunch by himself.
- 11:41SPEAKER_00: It's just ugly over there.
- 11:42SPEAKER_00: They got a quarterback who can't throw the ball.
- 11:44SPEAKER_01: Ashton Daniels can't throw the ball.
- 11:45SPEAKER_01: I mean, they got Deuce Robinson out there.
- 11:46SPEAKER_01: Throw the ball to Deuce Robinson every play, Ashton, but he can't throw the ball.
- 11:50SPEAKER_01: So, I mean, I don't know what you're what are you excited about if you're Florida State, other than maybe the end is near.
- 11:54SPEAKER_01: Maybe the bell will toll sooner than later.
- 11:56SPEAKER_01: So obviously that's a go-for it for me as well.
- 11:58SPEAKER_01: Mark, what do you got?
- 12:01SPEAKER_02: Oh man.
- 12:03SPEAKER_02: I I you know, Florida State's defense did stop New Mexico State's running game, but they couldn't get off the field on third down.
- 12:12SPEAKER_02: And they had eight penalties for 85 yards.
- 12:16SPEAKER_02: So if they can clean that up, I think Florida State.
- 12:19SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 12:22SPEAKER_02: Uh I'm with you guys.
- 12:23SPEAKER_02: Same boat as you guys.
- 12:24SPEAKER_02: There's no.
- 12:25SPEAKER_02: They're gonna choke.
- 12:26SPEAKER_00: They almost need a mutiny on board.
- 12:29SPEAKER_00: Like they need the players to say, we don't care what these stupid coaches are doing to uh, we're gonna go out there and you know do our they they almost need to like fire themselves up, yeah, just despite of what the coaching staff might be.
- 12:44SPEAKER_01: A little rally and cry.
- 12:45SPEAKER_00: Yeah, a little a little internal rally from the players, players-only meeting, uh, because they got the roster build, they got they got the guys with the with the size and the speed.
- 12:56SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 12:56SPEAKER_00: It's not that Florida State is devoid of talent.
- 12:58SPEAKER_02: This is Norvell's second or third year.
- 13:01SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 13:01SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 13:02SPEAKER_02: No, I was gonna say, go ahead.
- 13:03SPEAKER_02: Go ahead.
- 13:04SPEAKER_01: It's not that they're devoid of talent, they're just not where Florida State's supposed to be.
- 13:07SPEAKER_01: We are all old enough.
- 13:08SPEAKER_01: We grew up in the Bobby Bowden Florida State years.
- 13:11SPEAKER_01: Obviously, Jimbo, Jimbo Fisher brought them back with Jameis Winston.
- 13:14SPEAKER_01: Norvell they should have been in the playoffs that year.
- 13:17SPEAKER_01: Uh, that gentleman broke his leg and the gruesome injury.
- 13:19SPEAKER_01: I can't name's escaping me at the moment.
- 13:21SPEAKER_01: Like Florida State uh Travis.
- 13:23SPEAKER_01: Jordan Travis.
- 13:24SPEAKER_01: Jordan Travis.
- 13:25SPEAKER_01: Jordan Travis, thank you.
- 13:26SPEAKER_01: Throughout my history as a college football fan, Florida State has been awesome for most of it.
- 13:30SPEAKER_01: And they're just nowhere near competitive that.
- 13:33SPEAKER_01: That all said, they do have some talented spots here and there.
- 13:37SPEAKER_01: Uh, they just I think Florida State fans and their love and their alumni base think they should be here.
- 13:42SPEAKER_01: In reality, they're here.
- 13:43SPEAKER_01: And I think before they get backed up here, it's gonna go down.
- 13:46SPEAKER_01: I think it's gonna be Norville getting fired, an AD change, an injection of cash, a conference move.
- 13:53SPEAKER_01: I don't know what it's gonna take, frankly.
- 13:55SPEAKER_01: But it's gonna be some rattling of the cages because whatever it is now, it's just I only see it going down.
- 14:01SPEAKER_00: So he started in 2020 at Florida State, and he is younger than me.
- 14:05SPEAKER_00: And so he is prime and ready to be fired and dropped like a dirty sock.
- 14:11SPEAKER_01: Look, he can just go back to Memphis because Charles Huff is gonna take the next, he's your next P4 coach next year, and he was already at Memphis, did a great job there.
- 14:19SPEAKER_01: So just go back to Memphis, man.
- 14:20SPEAKER_01: I mean, it's it's in vogue again.
- 14:22SPEAKER_01: Uh Scott Frost went back to UCF.
- 14:24SPEAKER_01: Uh, we got Richrod back at WVU.
- 14:27SPEAKER_01: Why not?
- 14:27SPEAKER_01: I just you know, victory lap time.
- 14:29SPEAKER_01: I guess.
- 14:29SPEAKER_02: Brent Pry never left Virginia Tech.
- 14:31SPEAKER_01: Brent Pry never left Virginia Tech.
- 14:32SPEAKER_01: I'm not sure he ever will.
- 14:33SPEAKER_01: So let's just have a little victory lap.
- 14:35SPEAKER_01: Why not, Mr.
- 14:36SPEAKER_01: Norvell?
- 14:36SPEAKER_01: All right, good stuff.
- 14:37SPEAKER_01: So we're all going for it.
- 14:38SPEAKER_02: I was gonna say, I actually think Norvell ends up in Tulsa next year.
- 14:41SPEAKER_02: You can mark that one down.
- 14:42SPEAKER_02: He was their wide receivers coach and passing game coordinator in like 2009, 2010.
- 14:47SPEAKER_02: And and that would be my prediction is once he is finally let go from Florida State.
- 14:51SPEAKER_02: He ends up at Tulsa.
- 14:52SPEAKER_01: He would look good as a golden field, an American conference coach.
- 14:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah, good American coach.
- 14:57SPEAKER_01: All right, number four.
- 14:59SPEAKER_01: North Dakota State is going to crush the group of six.
- 15:03SPEAKER_01: But another way, they're going to win the Mountain West.
- 15:05SPEAKER_01: They're about two and a half to one.
- 15:06SPEAKER_01: They are now co-favorites with you with UNLV.
- 15:09SPEAKER_01: UNLV lost to Memphis.
- 15:10SPEAKER_01: Uh North Dakota State came out and just beat the brakes off of uh Jacksonville State.
- 15:15SPEAKER_01: First game is the FPS and the Fargo Dome.
- 15:18SPEAKER_01: I am drinking the Kool-Aid.
- 15:20SPEAKER_01: I am going for it.
- 15:20SPEAKER_01: I'm going four for four, obviously, on so far.
- 15:23SPEAKER_01: Going for this one as well.
- 15:24SPEAKER_01: Uh, I just I love North Coast State.
- 15:26SPEAKER_01: I love what they're doing, the continuity, offense-defensive line.
- 15:29SPEAKER_01: The Mountain West is good.
- 15:30SPEAKER_01: It ain't that good.
- 15:31SPEAKER_01: I think North Coast State is gonna show up with a lot of noise.
- 15:35SPEAKER_01: Give me uh North Coast State.
- 15:37SPEAKER_00: Yeah, win the Mountain West.
- 15:39SPEAKER_00: I mean, I think that's I think that's a go for it for sure.
- 15:42SPEAKER_00: But if you mean make the playoff, Michael, is that where you're going with this?
- 15:48SPEAKER_00: That's a taller order for sure.
- 15:50SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 15:50SPEAKER_00: So yeah, depends on what the stakes are.
- 15:53SPEAKER_00: We're at midfield, maybe it's safe.
- 15:56SPEAKER_00: Uh, yeah, I kind of want to go for it too.
- 15:59SPEAKER_00: Go for it.
- 16:00SPEAKER_00: They just, you know, that big running back, they tended to convert.
- 16:04SPEAKER_00: Uh at the line of scrimmage, they were pushing in both directions.
- 16:09SPEAKER_00: Uh yeah, they just look like a dominant team.
- 16:12SPEAKER_00: So heck, why not?
- 16:13SPEAKER_00: You know, why not?
- 16:14SPEAKER_00: The answer, why not, is that Memphis looked a little bit better.
- 16:17SPEAKER_01: Do you think do you think North Coast could finish top two in the group of six?
- 16:20SPEAKER_01: So let's say there's a ranking of just the G6 schools at the end of the season.
- 16:23SPEAKER_01: Do you think North Dakota State's a top two?
- 16:25SPEAKER_01: Top three?
- 16:26SPEAKER_00: So if yeah, so if you say they're gonna crush the crush the G6 and end up as one of the four teams that's in the conversation up until the last weekend, you know, rivalry week or something.
- 16:38SPEAKER_00: Heck yeah.
- 16:39SPEAKER_00: Yeah, go for it.
- 16:40SPEAKER_01: That's what I'm thinking too.
- 16:41SPEAKER_01: Because there could be they could be a, I mean, obviously, JMU got in.
- 16:43SPEAKER_01: JMU should not have gotten it.
- 16:44SPEAKER_01: Obviously, Miami should have won the ACC.
- 16:46SPEAKER_01: Miami should have no disrespect to all my Jamie Dukes out there.
- 16:48SPEAKER_01: I do apologize, Duke Dogs, boop, woof.
- 16:50SPEAKER_01: But like that was a weird circumstance where we had two G6 schools.
- 16:54SPEAKER_01: More often than not, especially moving forward, we're gonna have one.
- 16:58SPEAKER_01: So my point is there's probably going to be a couple worthy G6 champions sitting on the outside.
- 17:03SPEAKER_01: Boise probably has the inside track, but I wouldn't be surprised if UNA UNLV rebounded.
- 17:08SPEAKER_01: I I think JMU might be win 11 games this year.
- 17:11SPEAKER_01: There might be a lot of there might be a couple G6 schools, really good ones, that are sitting on the sidelines.
- 17:16SPEAKER_01: And I don't see any reason why, especially right after what I saw on Saturday, North Dakota State couldn't be one of those.
- 17:22SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 17:22unknown: Yeah.
- 17:23SPEAKER_02: 100% go for it.
- 17:24SPEAKER_02: Go for it all the way.
- 17:25SPEAKER_02: You look at their schedule, there's not a there's not a tough game in there except for UNLV.
- 17:29SPEAKER_02: I mean, they've got an FCS game coming up.
- 17:31SPEAKER_02: They go to Air Force, win.
- 17:33SPEAKER_02: Sack State still looked like an FCS school this past week.
- 17:36SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 17:37SPEAKER_02: Wyoming, they're gonna win.
- 17:38SPEAKER_01: Where's that look?
- 17:39SPEAKER_01: Where's that Wyoming?
- 17:40SPEAKER_01: Is it Laramie?
- 17:40SPEAKER_02: It's in Fargo.
- 17:42SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 17:43SPEAKER_02: Then October 10th, they are in Las Vegas at UNLV.
- 17:47SPEAKER_02: Huge game.
- 17:48SPEAKER_02: That game's gonna be fun.
- 17:49SPEAKER_02: Awesome.
- 17:50SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 17:50SPEAKER_02: Then they have Nevada at the Fargo Dome, they go to New Mexico, they host UTEP, they go to Hawaii, they have northern Illinois at home, and then they close out with San Jose State.
- 17:59SPEAKER_02: I don't see them, I see them losing one game in that whole.
- 18:03SPEAKER_01: Traveling to Hawaii is a tricky spot for sure.
- 18:05SPEAKER_01: Not because I'm gonna have that much faith in Hawaii into what Timmy Chang is doing, not yet.
- 18:09SPEAKER_01: I think longer term they're gonna be better.
- 18:11SPEAKER_01: Um, but flying to Hawaii and going to the islands to play a football game, we have seen good teams go there and falter.
- 18:16SPEAKER_01: So I could see that.
- 18:17SPEAKER_01: But otherwise, I'm with you.
- 18:18SPEAKER_01: The schedule does set up pretty well, and they get they get a lot of those tricky ones uh in the Fargo Dome, so that helps as well.
- 18:25SPEAKER_01: All right, last uh last punter go for the day.
- 18:28SPEAKER_01: This one's probably too spicy even for me.
- 18:30SPEAKER_01: Boat Prabula is getting invitation to New York for the Heisman ceremony.
- 18:36SPEAKER_00: Punt! That's the Virginia Tech fan has abstained from that one.
- 18:43SPEAKER_00: Has chimed in, yeah.
- 18:45SPEAKER_00: He ran for over 100 the other day.
- 18:48SPEAKER_00: Good job, bud, but he's he does have to play some some real teams eventually.
- 18:52SPEAKER_00: Okay, okay.
- 18:54SPEAKER_00: No, heck, no, heck no, heck no.
- 18:56SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 18:58SPEAKER_02: I mean, hey, I mean it it was week zero for a reason, right?
- 19:02SPEAKER_02: Like, that was the best game out there.
- 19:04SPEAKER_02: He had a wonderful game, and that was awesome.
- 19:07SPEAKER_02: He cannot sustain that all year and stay healthy.
- 19:11SPEAKER_02: Um it's just not realistic, I'm punting.
- 19:14SPEAKER_02: There's no way.
- 19:15SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 19:15SPEAKER_02: There's no way he goes.
- 19:16SPEAKER_01: Devil's advocate here.
- 19:18SPEAKER_01: What would it take for Brabula to earn an invitation?
- 19:21SPEAKER_01: 11 wins?
- 19:22SPEAKER_01: 12 and out?
- 19:23SPEAKER_01: AC6.
- 19:24SPEAKER_02: Undefeated, yeah, undefeated.
- 19:26SPEAKER_02: Some wide receivers that can catch.
- 19:28SPEAKER_02: That would help.
- 19:29SPEAKER_02: That would certainly help.
- 19:33SPEAKER_00: Yeah, running a uh, you know, he's he's like 80-20 run game right now.
- 19:38SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 19:39SPEAKER_00: And that's not gonna impress Heisman voters when when other when other candidates are putting up 3,000 yards in the air, because that's what you want a QB to do.
- 19:49SPEAKER_01: I think you're right.
- 19:50SPEAKER_01: I don't think he's gonna even if he starts throwing the ball, he's not gonna be a statistical, like he's not gonna fill up the stat sheet.
- 19:55SPEAKER_01: But if he goes 13-0, wins the ACC, and the and UVA gets there from their run game and defense.
- 20:01SPEAKER_01: I don't see a situation where he doesn't get invited in that situation, right?
- 20:04SPEAKER_01: 13-0 UVA?
- 20:06SPEAKER_02: Uh I don't know.
- 20:07SPEAKER_02: There are gonna be teams that are gonna stack.
- 20:08SPEAKER_02: Oh, go ahead.
- 20:09SPEAKER_00: No, you go, Mark.
- 20:11SPEAKER_00: They're gonna be working out the gates.
- 20:15SPEAKER_02: Go for it, Darren.
- 20:15SPEAKER_02: I know.
- 20:16SPEAKER_02: And hand it back over.
- 20:18SPEAKER_00: He's not gonna have the resume.
- 20:19SPEAKER_00: He's not gonna beat Miami.
- 20:21SPEAKER_00: They don't play Miami.
- 20:23SPEAKER_01: But he could in Charlotte he could do it.
- 20:24SPEAKER_01: If they go to the ACC championship, he goes to the ACC championship, plays to Charlotte, beats them.
- 20:30SPEAKER_01: Let's say he runs for another hundred yards in that game.
- 20:33SPEAKER_01: Does that get you to New York?
- 20:34SPEAKER_00: Not saying he wins it.
- 20:35SPEAKER_00: Does that get you to New York?
- 20:36SPEAKER_00: No, on that on that same day, you're gonna have Dante Moore winning his game and CJ Carr winning or not CJ Carr.
- 20:44SPEAKER_00: But yeah, point taken.
- 20:44SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 20:44SPEAKER_00: Archer Manning or Gunnarstock, they're all gonna be winning their games too.
- 20:47SPEAKER_00: They're gonna be playing better, better opponents.
- 20:49SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 20:50SPEAKER_02: So would you have to be a good one?
- 20:51SPEAKER_02: One of these teams with a decent defense is gonna stack the box against him, and he's gonna have to throw.
- 20:56SPEAKER_01: And then Radio Laurel.
- 20:57SPEAKER_02: I just don't see him winning with his arm.
- 20:59SPEAKER_02: And if he can win with his arm, absolutely he'll be there.
- 21:02SPEAKER_02: But all he's done right now is prove he can do it with his legs.
- 21:04SPEAKER_01: Fair.
- 21:05SPEAKER_01: Fair.
- 21:06SPEAKER_01: Has to show us a different dimension of his game.
- 21:08SPEAKER_01: And I believe you're right, UVA is what pass catchers.
- 21:11SPEAKER_01: While showing some problems with the transfers, I would also like to see a bit more before I bullish on that.
- 21:16SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 21:16SPEAKER_00: So I feel like a coach on the sidelines, and you know, I just I just sent out the punt team, the crowd is booing.
- 21:22SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah.
- 21:23SPEAKER_00: You know, I'm making the conservative call.
- 21:24SPEAKER_00: We're on the 38-yard line.
- 21:26SPEAKER_00: You know, the whole the whole stadium is saying go for it.
- 21:30SPEAKER_00: I'm sending out the punt team.
- 21:31SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna cross my arms, across my chest, and uh stare into space.
- 21:34SPEAKER_01: Even if your punter sucks and you're gonna kick the ends, and you're only gonna you're only gonna net like 18 yards.
- 21:38SPEAKER_01: Who cares?
- 21:39SPEAKER_01: Punt anyway.
- 21:40SPEAKER_01: Conservative, conservative call.
- 21:42SPEAKER_01: All right, good stuff.
- 21:43SPEAKER_01: All right, that's uh your first uh punt or go for it of a 2026 season.
- 21:47SPEAKER_01: Thanks for playing with that, boys.
- 21:48SPEAKER_01: That was fun.
- 21:48SPEAKER_01: We're gonna do that.
- 21:49SPEAKER_01: We're gonna do that again next week.
- 21:50SPEAKER_01: We have a whole other slate of games.
- 21:52SPEAKER_01: It's really important to remember in college football, the the things happen.
- 21:56SPEAKER_01: What happened between week one and week two is is incredible.
- 22:00SPEAKER_01: I mean, the amount of teams change, they develop, what we think we saw, what we didn't saw.
- 22:04SPEAKER_01: Classic example, LSU Clemson.
- 22:06SPEAKER_01: Darren I went last year.
- 22:07SPEAKER_01: We thought LSU knocked off a great team, turned out both stunk.
- 22:10SPEAKER_01: Years ago, uh Texas beat Notre Dame.
- 22:13SPEAKER_01: Everybody even said this is a running joke for Mike and I in the podcast for years.
- 22:16SPEAKER_01: Is Texas back?
- 22:17SPEAKER_01: It was because of that game.
- 22:18SPEAKER_01: Texas beat Notre Dame.
- 22:20SPEAKER_01: We found out later, they're both terrible.
- 22:22SPEAKER_01: So this happens all the time, every season.
- 22:24SPEAKER_01: Don't over don't overpurchase what you see on week one, but we're gonna talk about that.
- 22:28SPEAKER_01: We'll do this again for uh leaning into week two.
- 22:31SPEAKER_01: Good stuff.
- 22:32SPEAKER_02: Put that on a t shirt, Michael Wade.
- 22:34SPEAKER_01: What's that?
- 22:35SPEAKER_02: Your quote right there.
- 22:39SPEAKER_02: uh what you see in first in week zero.
- 22:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 22:41SPEAKER_01: It's good advice.
- 22:43SPEAKER_02: If I could re if I could re if I could recite what you just said, it was great.
- 22:46SPEAKER_02: I'll rewind the podcast.
- 22:47SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I'll play it again.
- 22:48SPEAKER_01: When I hear this again, I'll remember I'll try to remember what I'm talking about.
- 22:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 22:51SPEAKER_01: Spinning words out of my mouth.
- 22:52SPEAKER_01: All right, good stuff.
- 22:53SPEAKER_01: All right, let's let's go ahead and jump into week one.
- 22:55SPEAKER_01: So again, full slave activity.
- 22:57SPEAKER_01: We got lots of games.
- 22:58SPEAKER_01: Relative to other seasons, week one's been kind of light, but relative to week zero, it's way better because everyone is playing except for pretty much those 18 teams that played in week zero.
- 23:06SPEAKER_01: So what we're gonna do is we're gonna kind of meander through the ticket.
- 23:09SPEAKER_01: We're gonna talk about what we like, what we don't like, the games that we agree on, we're gonna throw those into a parlay.
- 23:15SPEAKER_01: Everything that we agree on will get kind of at legs added.
- 23:18SPEAKER_01: We'll come up with a a number bet at the very end and uh we'll do that through the whole college football slate.
- 23:24SPEAKER_01: We'll end with the five homers this week only four because UVA is off so they played last week and we'll just kind of go from there.
- 23:30SPEAKER_01: So that's kind of the program for the rest of the evening.
- 23:32SPEAKER_00: Gosh I gotta say I got to ask guys on a Saturday morning in the fall greatest time of the year greatest moment of the greatest day of the greatest season of the year what's your Saturday morning like how do you how do you get how do you handle the excitement and the jitters and you know just the joy how do you how do you guys do it?
- 23:54SPEAKER_02: I think I have my answer but what do you what's your saturday like so for the last couple years I've been sitting at a youth soccer game listening to the mic on my air on my airpods.
- 24:03SPEAKER_01: So yeah I'm yeah I'm usually I'm usually in a dugout with a bunch of eight year olds playing t-ball or something but but that's usually over by noon so it's okay.
- 24:11SPEAKER_01: But for more for for a better answer it depends on the week and who we're playing when LSU is playing McNeese I'm just I'm just vibes just having a good time and I also excited to watch college football because I know there's no chance that my football team is going to lose on big weeks AM Ole Miss Alabama Tennessee I'm nervous like I wake up on Saturday morning at like six or seven o'clock thinking about a night game like all day I'm like what's this matchup gonna look like what's this so my vibe it depends on the opponent and no that's true for the whole week.
- 24:43SPEAKER_00: Do you start lobbying with the wife to like you know be free on Saturday like hey maybe you guys could go to the uh museum all day on Saturday I add every LSU game to the family calendar months in advance.
- 24:55SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 24:55SPEAKER_01: So uh I was so I will there will be time there will be moments on Saturdays like if I if I know LSU has a night game then I will of course be available for the afternoon something like that.
- 25:06SPEAKER_01: If it's you know LSU's playing Auburn at noon I think October 25th so from noon to three I'm tied up but in the evening maybe we'll go watch a movie or whatever.
- 25:15SPEAKER_01: So yeah we that's that's baked into the Wade family agenda months in advance.
- 25:20SPEAKER_01: I get going early I can't wait to jump out of bed even at like 6 30 in the morning on a Saturday and just get excited brew some coffee get a get a nice hot cup of coffee going think about some uh you know write down the the matchups of the day think about a couple bets maybe get excited go out in a yard I like to go out in the in the yard you know get some tools going somehow some way pull some weeds build a flower bed um with all with the headphones in you know like looks listening to that last pod that I didn't listen to um and then when nine o'clock hits uh flip it over to college game day and you know start start getting excited with Pat McAfee yeah that's about that's about it that's about pretty pretty close to me as well all my product all my productivity times on usually on college football Saturdays are between 7 a.m and 10 10 30 it's here man it's here I'm just excited for game day um you know there's a big letdown at noon when they finally go off and you know you're looking at McNey State like you said yep uh normally but but still game day is here it's it is here the greatest season greatest time of the year is here yeah celebrate quad box season embrace it all right okay cool uh so let's go ahead and jump into what's what's what's gonna start happening at noon uh so like I said we're gonna meander through the games we're talking about what we like and we're gonna go from there let's go ahead and start with noon I'm gonna go ahead and start with Alabama Alabama is hosting uh East Carolina University at Brian Denny noon spreads Alabama minus 27 and a half total 52 and a half here's my take on Alabama ECU Alabama is the better team they are going to win bad offensive line they lost bad offensive line last year they couldn't run the ball they replaced four of those five starters I'm expecting the offensive line to be worse again uh and they lost Ty Simpson their first round quarterback they're breaking in Keelan Russell we talked about him his ability to throw the long pass the yards whatever my point uh I don't know in what universe this offensive line is going to be demonstrably better than last year I think ECU is gonna keep this close enough 27 and a half points is a lot I have no faith they're gonna win obviously but I don't hate east carolina to keep this respectable the Mitch Griffith experience the ECU quarterback I would like I mean obviously he was he had a good year at Wake a couple years ago but he's leaves a little bit to be desired I have no way calling him to win but I mean you're telling me east carolina can't keep it close what do you think yeah we got a new head coach coming in there um he's been the defensive coordinator for a couple years uh you know when we got when we have a new head coach and a new quarterback coming in I hit the brakes okay uh I think ECU got on TV a couple times scared up a few you know points and and put up a good showing last year a little bit I think the line here might reflect that I could totally see Alabama going up 30 to nothing by halftime no sweat they did have a big regression in terms of uh turnovers they got really they got really good interceptions some fourth down stops some fumble recovery so there is some certainly regression to the mean territory here but I just in general East Carolina is pluckier than folks have have have given them credit for uh even though they don't seem to have much of a Vegas chance at least in the American mark what do you think I I'm real close to yeah I think East Carolina covers I I I'm so torn on this one um I mean being it's in Alabama I I'm gonna put my money on the fact that Alabama yeah uh East Carolina like loses but they only lose by like 24 it sounds like we're we're not much consensus we'll stay away from that one let's keep it going do they you know the team like this I would be more confident if I felt like they could backdoor cover.
- 29:18SPEAKER_00: If I felt like they had an explosive explosive part on offense you know that's where I want to take 25 30 points yeah if they could backdoor cover and score 14 in the fourth.
- 29:27SPEAKER_01: Now they do have some I don't think it's there no they do have some good receivers I just don't have any I just don't have Mitch I don't have any faith in Mitch Griffith Griffiths getting them the ball going up against one of the best secondaries uh Sab Hubbard I mean there's Alabama secondaries looked like three of the four of them are first rounders.
- 29:44SPEAKER_01: So that's tall throwing on those guys is going to be tough.
- 29:47SPEAKER_01: All right we're gonna stay away from that one.
- 29:49SPEAKER_01: All right let's go to the next one let's go to Baylor at Auburn this is probably what this this is a big swing game for Davoran David Rand has been on the has been on the hot seat for a minute there is he is he is a defensive savant when his time at LSU did not carry over to his time in Baylor.
- 30:02SPEAKER_01: They're playing Auburn Auburn is a new coach Alice Golish Byron Brown all the South Florida transfers uh south uh South Florida transfers Auburn seven and a half points over under 58 and a half are you feeling DJ Lagway the Baylor quarterback the Florida transfer the high end five star um I like Auburn's defense a lot DJ Jerkins is still there Xavier Atkins middle linebacker all American uh does Byron Brown hit the ground running I kind of think he does but uh this game is also sorry this game is not in Baylor it's uh Mercedes Ben Samson neutral site Atlanta Georgia uh give me your Baylor Auburn takes in Atlanta so I like Auburn's defense a lot a lot okay and I think they're bringing back um a real SEC powerhouse here I think this spread is way off and Auburn covers plenty I think Baylor has a little bit of brand recognition which is baked into you know the the story here the line of only a couple points um no it's just not happening I think they're more like one of these one of these cupcake teams that's just gonna get blasted and Dave Aranda yeah these you know they've got a they've got a little recent history of being a team that could scare up a little activity DJ Lagway same way he had uh he had a a season two years ago where he you know he did have a season sure sure he had a he had a little something it wasn't last year though it wasn't his last six games he played um it was two years ago yeah and so that combination Auburn's real real defense and what I just said about ECU you know turnover this is not a turnover situation this is Goalish and Byron Brown coming in together ready to hit the ground running with the same playbook they did you know last year and so Auburn's just gonna roll I say yeah I think I think they're gonna be able to run the run the bejesus down the ball I mean what we so I we expect they would have a good defense that just has not converted the other thing is why do we think um David Rando is going to get the best out of DJ Lagway like I'm I'm confused about that part I understand the five star prospect I understand he's he's got all the high end talent in the world he has he showed it in flashes at Florida but that was really about it I don't think Florida fans were really that upset to see him go quite frankly so I'm I'm thinking Auburn I think Auburn rolls I think Auburn's just gonna punch him in the mouth and keep it going I 100% agree with you guys both if you look at the if you go two layers deep on the offense of Auburn only three of those players were on the Auburn team last year.
- 32:33SPEAKER_02: Jeremiah Cobb the running back Omar Madston backup running back and their backup right guard everybody else has transferred in or they're a true freshman I don't even know what we're gonna get out of this Auburn offense but I feel a lot better about them than Baylor.
- 32:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah uh Jeremiah Cobb's a stub too a stud too I think he might be a second or third team all SEC back.
- 32:52SPEAKER_01: So you know they've got guys all right we're gonna go ahead and circle Auburn minus seven and a half for our first play of the day heck yeah good stuff.
- 32:59SPEAKER_01: All right number two let's jump oh let's fast forward to Monday night uh SMU against Florida State uh that game is in Tallahassee Doe Campbell Stadium uh SMU is a three-point favorite on the road over under 52 and a half why do why do we not think that SMU is going to blow beat the brakes off of them I got SMU by like 14 points here.
- 33:22SPEAKER_01: I was really discouraged and we've I mean I think we're kind of going back and beating dead horse here but I was very discouraged by Florida State and I think SMU especially on that left side of their offensive line they got some real really good players and they are well coached Brett Lashley's the better coach Kevin Jennings the better quarterback I'm seeing a a lot of better better better on the SMU side of this game I think a three-point line is silly I hate to pick us two favorites in a row but any reason are you are are either of you going to talk me out taking SMU here absolutely not but a good chance no way no way I mean if you look at I think I mentioned it a little bit earlier but Florida State started with New Mexico State they held them to 47 rush yards if you take away there's two carries they had of 10 and 12 you take that away New Mexico ran 21 times for 25 yards that is the only positive thing I can say about Florida State.
- 34:14SPEAKER_00: Okay I but two and a half points I mean that's I've I've got to set over here is two and a half there's I there's no way that SMU doesn't win by almost double digits in this one so yes absolutely SMU SMU weird people are people are hanging on to some hope about the historic once again brand recognition FSU um and S uh SMU just doesn't have that Florida State does and so the line is three points crazy talk and I wrote down here on my paper should we consider an alt line of minus six minus nine I don't know do we get what do we do do we do spicy on this pod?
- 34:57SPEAKER_01: I'm new here I don't know I'm new we can we can sometimes I'm a little I'll be honest I'm a little hesitant to do an alt line this early in the season because we have not seen SMU play football in nine months so the the line is three points I'm I feel pretty good about it but I'm a I'm a little worried I don't want to get greedy having not seen them play football in the better part of the year.
- 35:16SPEAKER_02: See that's where I'm not gonna throw it in the parlay but I'm definitely going to jump on that as a single bet right now.
- 35:21SPEAKER_02: Yeah yeah I might throw a little money line sprinkle on that minus nine and a half just see what happens right right right I'm gonna go six and a half and I'll let you know what that number is as soon as I bet it here on the responsible bets.
- 35:32SPEAKER_01: For the parlay we're gonna keep it at three and a half though let's keep we'll just we're just sticking we're gonna stick okay cool stuff all right let's keep it going let's look let's go the other side let's go talk about Wisconsin Wisconsin's playing Notre Dame this is on Sunday night Lambeau Fields home of the Green Bay Packers Mark's favorite team Notre Dame minus 20 and a half point line uh total total is 47 and a half which it implies which implies uh Vegas thinks Wisconsin's gonna score what is that 14 points 14 to 34 is the implied score in that one I really like Colton Joseph to move the ball in Lambeau.
- 36:06SPEAKER_01: I don't think Wisconsin's gonna be embarrassed.
- 36:08SPEAKER_01: I don't think I think they're gonna play hard their defense despite all the problems their injuries was a top 25 defense and I think they're pretty good.
- 36:16SPEAKER_01: I like the way they play I know they have a lot to replace but Wisconsin uh plays hard nose football uh they have a chance on national television to kind of do something to kind of be seen what I think is going to happen is Colton Joseph is not able to throw the ball very much but he's gonna get enough first downs and I think Wisconsin's defense is going to keep them in this game.
- 36:36SPEAKER_01: I like Wisconsin plus 20 and a half what do you think?
- 36:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah I don't hate it can you tell me more about Colton Joseph Ricky Ronnie's uh a quarterback at ODU uh he's a dual threat guy better runner than thrower uh really good at ball control really smart with the ball doesn't turn it over a whole lot um kind of fits you know Luke Fickle the Wisconsin coach is kind of just trying to go back to um back to the ground attack which is where Wisconsin's supposed to be so this is kind of this is kind of Wisconsin and and assuming those to be healthy this is kind of Wisconsin going back to a better version of the team they're supposed to be which is a running team play good defense so I think the aim's gonna be slow.
- 37:15SPEAKER_01: 47 I mean 47 and a half points is not a lot for a power for college football game.
- 37:20SPEAKER_01: So the smart people in the desert also think it's gonna be a slower methodical game.
- 37:24SPEAKER_00: So you're giving me half and a point 20 and a half points in a slow game I don't know he's got um two years of full time experience and last year he rushed for a thousand yards what is that true yes he rushed for a thousand last year okay okay I like this I like an athletic uh quarterback good great numbers great numbers um I'm with you I like it uh as much as it's crazy to hear myself say that because I've been saying Notre Dame's just gonna you know shock the world by scoring a hundred points I mean if they come out angry then but on week one yeah on week one love to take the dogs love to take a a grind that you didn't see coming a little trouble that no one saw coming and Wisconsin don't you know they've had all year to prepare for this game.
- 38:12SPEAKER_02: Exactly exactly Mark what do you think guys I can't support you on this one and here's the reason why I was looking up Phil Steele had the ranking of top college football offensive lines.
- 38:26SPEAKER_02: Notre Dame ranked as the number one offensive line.
- 38:30SPEAKER_02: Wisconsin out of the top 69 teams isn't even on the list that's so good I I just don't see Wisconsin I don't I just don't see them moving the ball in scoring you look at the there's two DBs on Notre Dame Leonard Moore top projected top 25 pick in the NFL draft this coming year at a cornerback uh I would say Bronte Johnson is their safety the guy's got great mobility a little struggles with tackle but he's like a at least a second round projected pick there's a lot of talent on Notre Dame's defense I don't see a lot going on with Wisconsin's offense I don't you say they the Vegas says they're gonna score 14 if you max all the numbers I just don't see it um I I I can't no I definitely if it was my bet I'm taking Notre Dame and the points can you can can I convince do either of you like the total in this game?
- 39:23SPEAKER_01: It's 46 and a half kind of low but if we think if it's if it's gonna be that kind of game or do we just stay away from this game?
- 39:29SPEAKER_01: Are either of you interested in the total at all?
- 39:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah I'm only mildly interested in the over you love Wisconsin's defense don't you I just think they're gonna I just think they're gonna talk over you guys I just think they're gonna muck it up I just think they're gonna try they what what Luke Fickle doesn't want to do and where he's not he's he's kind of on the hot seat I think some folks would even say he is like he can't afford to lose 52 to three like even if he concedes the game and loses I don't know 2915 I just think he's gonna do whatever he can to to let to claim get a moral victory.
- 40:01SPEAKER_01: That's that's that's that's what they're playing for here.
- 40:03SPEAKER_01: In front of the home crowd too effectively at Lambeau which is obviously not Camp Randall but I mean it might as well be I think it's gonna be 90% uh red and white in those stands it's a great place to stay away great layoff game layoff stay away I think so yeah all right let's get away from it good stuff uh old miss Louisville what quietly might be the game of the week if you're asking me uh that game is Sunday uh game's in Nissan Stadium Nashville another neutral cider uh right now the the the line is uh Ole Miss minus seven over under 55 and a half which is almost more than touchdown more than the uh Wisconsin other game is expecting some points uh I'm gonna pitch you guys on Louisville plus seven uh Lincoln Keenoles the quarterback was at Ohio State lost the job to Julian Saying the entire time everybody Ohio State saying it was a very close it was a very close fight went back to back maybe that was coach beat but the people in Columbus seem to really like the guy they have a pass rush they are good at getting after the quarterback which is so so important for Trinidad Chambless Keewan Lacey hurry up team like old miss Isaac Brown borderline all American running back they have a really good running back at Louisville um Jeff Braum I mean Pete Golding we'll see this is your first time taking the helm I think Jeff Brahm's a better coach than uh Pete Golding is right now I'd rather have if if I was building a team tomorrow and I had those two Jeff Braum would be the easy choice.
- 41:31SPEAKER_01: And lastly you can't tell me that you can take away Lane Kiffin Charlie Weiss Jr Kevin Smith all of those that offensive brain power that's been removed and been re replanted in Baton Rouge and you not see a drop off I know they're mostly the same guys running mostly the same system I really like Louisville plus seven I'm really I'm really I'm I'm I'm I'm hitching my wagon to the Cardinal for this one.
- 41:55SPEAKER_01: Tell me why I'm stupid what what's going on here?
- 41:58SPEAKER_00: No you you got it I love getting seven points love uh keinholz is it keinholz like yeah keenholzing we'll find we'll find out yeah we will yeah um yeah so Louisville I think is one of these teams that ACC team they uh they don't get enough credit for being a physical um like you said pass rush from what I saw how they played and beat Miami last year they picked off Beck four times and not not like it wasn't because Beck is making dumb decisions it's because they were in his face forcing him cornerbacks were jumping routes getting physical I think they're just a they're just a a beefier uh old school trenches more of a team like that than anybody gives them credit for heck yeah seven points with Louisville Louisville um and like I say they old miss is the team with everything to lose they've been in the headlines ever since December they've been they've been on the that's gotta be exhausting they've been on uh on the news and in the spotlight they have everything to lose they know that they have to you know come out here and look all shiny and they know they're not just like you said they're missing so much they just know that they're kind of fraudulent and Louis gonna yeah it's it's a neutral site game it's not at old miss Louisville might just uh might just push them around they might win yeah they might win i'm yeah I'm uh yeah Mark what do you think I I agree Isaac Brown and even uh Kewan Brown their backup running back who is also uh projected to be a fourth third or I'm sorry a third or fourth round draft pick of the upcoming NFL draft I think this this running game's gonna be awesome like I think this game's gonna be great um I bet would actually be the under but yeah no I I definitely think Louisville takes this one um I could talk you can talk me the under on this one I mean if we're taking I don't I don't mind taking points I don't I don't mind betting the under if we're taking points I'll never the rule is you never bet the favorite and the under but if we're not doing that you want double dip on this one I mean it's I like the double dip man I like it because when old miss gets nervous you know what they're gonna do hand it to Keywan Lacey yeah I think you're right when they get when they get nervous they're not gonna ask a lot out of Chambliss I don't think uh and unproven receivers I think they're gonna hand it off I mean I'm so I'm seeing fifty two agree running back yeah just like we're talking about a hundred a hundred rushes here in this game you know like that sort of thing so so the and then I don't I'm not I'm not sure they're gonna run as much hurry up as they did uh when when Kiffin and Charlie Western so the over under right now is fifty five and a half that's eight touchdowns
- 44:39SPEAKER_01: That's two touchdowns a quarter.
- 44:40SPEAKER_01: I'm uh do you want to double dip this?
- 44:41SPEAKER_01: You want to do Louisville plus seven and the under?
- 44:44SPEAKER_01: Hit them both.
- 44:45SPEAKER_01: All right, let's do it.
- 44:46SPEAKER_01: Sweet.
- 44:46SPEAKER_01: Good stuff.
- 44:47SPEAKER_01: All right, we got four legs in.
- 44:48SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 44:49SPEAKER_01: Um, who is next on my list?
- 44:52SPEAKER_01: I don't even have a lot for this, so I'm gonna rely on you guys.
- 44:54SPEAKER_01: Uh, Oregon is playing Boise State.
- 44:57SPEAKER_01: Um, Oregon is my pick to win the national championship.
- 44:59SPEAKER_01: Uh, they think they're really, really good.
- 45:01SPEAKER_01: Boise State is the odds-on favorite to win uh the G6 playoff spot.
- 45:05SPEAKER_01: Uh Boise State does not have Ash Gente anymore.
- 45:08SPEAKER_01: That when they they played two years ago, there's a kind of crazy close game.
- 45:11SPEAKER_01: Boise State had a shot to beat them.
- 45:13SPEAKER_01: Oregon ultimately pulled away.
- 45:14SPEAKER_01: Um, this one is in Altson, Eugene, 330 CBS.
- 45:18SPEAKER_01: Uh, Oregon is laying 24 and a half, 51 and a half over under.
- 45:23SPEAKER_01: What do y'all think?
- 45:26SPEAKER_00: Oregon minus the points should be 35.
- 45:28SPEAKER_03: Really?
- 45:29SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I totally agree.
- 45:30SPEAKER_00: Yeah, Boise State.
- 45:32SPEAKER_00: I love I love watching Boise State.
- 45:34SPEAKER_00: Excited to watch him.
- 45:35SPEAKER_00: Uh Maddox Madsen's coming back for his 18th year of college football.
- 45:39SPEAKER_00: Congratulations.
- 45:40SPEAKER_00: Love love him, love the guy.
- 45:43SPEAKER_00: Uh Oregon is simply built to destroy.
- 45:47SPEAKER_00: And Boise State.
- 45:49SPEAKER_00: Oh, go ahead.
- 45:50SPEAKER_00: I'm sorry.
- 45:50SPEAKER_00: Yeah, we couldn't stop.
- 45:53SPEAKER_00: Aaron Hidden.
- 45:55SPEAKER_00: Sorry, they're receivers, you know.
- 45:56SPEAKER_00: I'm really looking forward to Oregon's receivers.
- 45:59SPEAKER_00: We got DeCorian Moore.
- 46:00SPEAKER_00: Evan Stewart.
- 46:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah, they got guys.
- 46:02SPEAKER_00: Evan Stewart, and yeah, and their tight end is like a third string all American.
- 46:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 46:06SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 46:07SPEAKER_00: And so I think they're just gonna they're just gonna play with their food, they're gonna go up by 30 at halftime, and and the defense is gonna hold Boise State from even thinking about a backdoor cover, anything like that in the second half.
- 46:18SPEAKER_00: Go ahead, Mark.
- 46:19SPEAKER_02: I was gonna say Washington, Fresno State, Notre Dame, and USF all last year ran all over Boise State, and they are and and Oregon's in a different tier than them.
- 46:29SPEAKER_02: And defensively, um only one quarterback last year completed over 60% of their passes against Oregon, and that was Fernando Mendoza.
- 46:39SPEAKER_02: Boise State didn't complete 60% of their passes in any game last year.
- 46:43SPEAKER_01: Does Boise State does Boise State have a better offense than Texas Tech?
- 46:48SPEAKER_01: I mean, probably not, and Texas Tech got goosed by this Oregon defense, which got better last year.
- 46:53SPEAKER_01: All right, you talked me into it.
- 46:54SPEAKER_01: Uh, did we take it and are we taking the under or do you want to lay the points and cover?
- 46:58SPEAKER_01: 24 and a half is spread.
- 47:01SPEAKER_01: Lay the points.
- 47:02SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 47:02SPEAKER_01: All right, we're doing it.
- 47:03SPEAKER_01: Oregon.
- 47:04SPEAKER_01: Oregon minus 24 and a half.
- 47:06SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 47:07SPEAKER_01: All right, I've got so those are the kind of the five or six big ones.
- 47:09SPEAKER_01: We're gonna do the homers.
- 47:10SPEAKER_01: I've got like six or seven other just like really quick things I'm gonna whip through.
- 47:13SPEAKER_01: Uh, you guys can just let me know if you like it or not.
- 47:15SPEAKER_01: If you want to talk about it, we can, or just go I'll I'll get away.
- 47:18SPEAKER_01: Uh, Miami is playing Stanford.
- 47:20SPEAKER_01: Um, Miami's is favored by 24 uh and a half points.
- 47:25SPEAKER_01: They might shut out Stanford.
- 47:27SPEAKER_01: I got nothing else beyond that.
- 47:28SPEAKER_01: It's in California.
- 47:30SPEAKER_01: First week of the season.
- 47:31SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 47:32SPEAKER_00: Anyone?
- 47:33SPEAKER_00: Lame.
- 47:34SPEAKER_00: No.
- 47:35SPEAKER_00: Miami, Miami minus, whatever.
- 47:37SPEAKER_00: Same, same theory.
- 47:39SPEAKER_01: What do you think, Mark?
- 47:40SPEAKER_01: Stay away.
- 47:40SPEAKER_02: Uh, I'll follow whatever you guys do on this one.
- 47:44SPEAKER_01: I don't feel strongly.
- 47:45SPEAKER_01: I just it's uh over-under is 47 and a half.
- 47:48SPEAKER_01: So really they're not expecting a lot of points out there, too.
- 47:50SPEAKER_01: I mean, it's the first trip, so like there shouldn't be Miami should be like kind of ready to go.
- 47:54SPEAKER_01: I mean, you're they shouldn't be jet set.
- 47:56SPEAKER_00: This spread should be 35.
- 47:58SPEAKER_00: If we're only laying 25, I think it's great.
- 48:00SPEAKER_00: Darien Mensah, he's just born born and built to score.
- 48:03SPEAKER_00: Kadarian Tony.
- 48:05SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 48:07SPEAKER_01: Can I talk into the under instead?
- 48:08SPEAKER_01: 47 and a half, go under that.
- 48:10SPEAKER_01: I think 24 and a half points is a lot of points to lay on the road, week week one for a game.
- 48:15SPEAKER_01: Mario Christopher has was a coach for a long time who was notorious for like kind of blowing it in silly games.
- 48:21SPEAKER_01: He seemed to got all the jitters out last year, so maybe he's kind of figured out his game day stuff.
- 48:25SPEAKER_01: But I'm I'm I'm having having the feelings about laying that many points on the road.
- 48:30SPEAKER_00: How about an under?
- 48:31SPEAKER_00: Yeah, sorry, I misspoke uh malachi Tony.
- 48:34SPEAKER_00: Um under yeah, you can talk me into that.
- 48:36SPEAKER_00: And I think I think we're goose, I think we're goose egg in Stanford here.
- 48:41SPEAKER_00: They they put their heart and soul into the last five minutes of that game on Saturday, and they must just be exhausted.
- 48:49SPEAKER_00: You know, they came up, they came out with a win against Hawaii, so they're saying, thank God, you know, let's just get through, let's just let's just look through Miami into the rest of our season and just go out there and try not to get injured and get on with our year.
- 49:03SPEAKER_00: They're not gonna put up any fight.
- 49:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 49:05SPEAKER_01: Uh okay, we're gonna we're gonna do the under.
- 49:08SPEAKER_01: We're all expecting Miami to win 31-0.
- 49:09SPEAKER_01: Hopefully that works out that way.
- 49:11SPEAKER_01: Okay, cool.
- 49:11SPEAKER_01: Uh Fresno State at USC.
- 49:14SPEAKER_01: USC minus 21 and a half.
- 49:15SPEAKER_01: They did not cover last year because they gave up 30 points or whatever it was, or 23 points in the fourth quarter.
- 49:20SPEAKER_01: There's a part of me that thinks they're going to uh like make up for that.
- 49:26SPEAKER_01: Like Lincoln Riley's gonna say we're not gonna let our third stringers go back in.
- 49:32SPEAKER_01: Um, I don't know a lot about Fresno State to be honest.
- 49:34SPEAKER_01: Fresno State, my I think they're one of the I think they're better than San Jose State.
- 49:38SPEAKER_01: Um oh, it's a good team.
- 49:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I'm kind of thinking stay away here, but it's an interesting line to me.
- 49:42SPEAKER_01: Any you any do you want any bit of Fresno USC?
- 49:45SPEAKER_01: We don't have to play these games.
- 49:47SPEAKER_00: The only thing, I mean, uh the only thing I would do would be take points with Fresno.
- 49:53SPEAKER_00: Um, you want the other side, you want the Fresno side.
- 49:56SPEAKER_00: Yeah, kinda.
- 49:57SPEAKER_00: I think that's a tough team.
- 49:58SPEAKER_00: I think it's a tough team that's gonna be, you know.
- 50:02SPEAKER_00: Once again, they've had all year to prepare for this game.
- 50:05SPEAKER_00: USC has had six days.
- 50:07SPEAKER_00: And so Fresno has been, you know, they're like, we want to get on the map.
- 50:12SPEAKER_00: We are dedicating our our spring and our summer to showing out against USC.
- 50:17SPEAKER_00: And so they're ready.
- 50:18SPEAKER_00: So I would take 22 points with Fresno, but this is a democracy.
- 50:25SPEAKER_01: I'm I I think I'm I'm I feel bad because I've brought up, I think I should want to stay away from this game the more I think about it.
- 50:30SPEAKER_01: Mark, what do you think?
- 50:31SPEAKER_02: Uh I was not one of the 18 people in the crowd watching that game last week at USC.
- 50:36SPEAKER_02: That's why I was like, I had no interest in looking this one up this weekend, so I've got no I've got no voice in this one.
- 50:42SPEAKER_01: Okay, all right, we're we're gonna we're gonna leave this one alone.
- 50:44SPEAKER_01: All right, next one.
- 50:45SPEAKER_01: Uh Western Michigan at Michigan.
- 50:47SPEAKER_01: Michigan is laying 27.5 points.
- 50:49SPEAKER_01: Over under is 48.5.
- 50:51SPEAKER_01: I don't really want to bet on this one either, but what she has talked me into, but what I do want to say about this game is Bryce Underwood, you know, obviously the superstar, highest rate recruit ever, couldn't throw the ball really well, had a bad spring throwing the ball.
- 51:02SPEAKER_01: Western Michigan won the Mac.
- 51:04SPEAKER_01: They're a pretty good pass defensive team.
- 51:06SPEAKER_01: This is a fantastic spot for us to learn about Bryce Underwood when they lead into Oklahoma next week.
- 51:14SPEAKER_01: I don't know what's going to happen, but I mean, from just a fan perspective, I want to see if Bryce Underwood can throw the ball.
- 51:20SPEAKER_01: Because he's going to have to if Michigan has a chance against Oklahoma or to compete where they want to with the Ohio States and Oregons of the world.
- 51:28SPEAKER_01: So I'm super curious to see.
- 51:29SPEAKER_01: Uh anything Michigan are you interested at all in Michigan, Western Michigan?
- 51:34SPEAKER_00: An under, if anything.
- 51:36SPEAKER_00: Uh, I think, like you say, Michigan's gonna come out and try to be that trenches uh bully team.
- 51:42SPEAKER_00: They just want to run the ball, they want to play solid defense up front, that's all they want to do.
- 51:47SPEAKER_00: They don't they don't necessarily need against a Western Michigan type of team to unleash Bryce Underwood right now.
- 51:56SPEAKER_00: And so I think they just want to come out there and win 20 to nothing quietly and run the clock down and get on with their week.
- 52:02SPEAKER_00: So though under 48 sounds great to me.
- 52:06SPEAKER_00: Mark.
- 52:08SPEAKER_02: Are you trying to say that you you believe that Michigan's the type of team that lowers themselves to the competition?
- 52:13SPEAKER_02: They will do just enough to win the game, but they won't go out and like like step on their brother, step on their throat and finish them, but they'll just do enough to win.
- 52:21SPEAKER_02: Is that what you're kind of going for with the Michigan BB?
- 52:24SPEAKER_01: I just want to see if Michigan's gonna try and throw the ball because Bryce Underwood, everybody's everybody wants to know if the guy can throw the ball.
- 52:29SPEAKER_01: And Western Michigan, for a good they won the Mac and they have good pass defense for a G6 team.
- 52:34SPEAKER_01: So I just like I just think it's a really interesting test.
- 52:37SPEAKER_01: Like, has Bryce Underwood's offseason gotten any better?
- 52:40SPEAKER_01: And this and by the looks in the spring, it didn't.
- 52:42SPEAKER_01: Darren, I think you're right.
- 52:43SPEAKER_01: Like if they play their bread and butter, they're gonna run the ball with Jordan Marshall and Savion Heider, our boy from around the corner, uh, the five-star, and the you know, they're gonna they're gonna crush them the way they all the way Michigan's supposed to.
- 52:54SPEAKER_01: But what I want to know is that they're gonna try and push the ball down the field.
- 52:58SPEAKER_00: Or can they even can they even do that?
- 53:00SPEAKER_00: Like you said, everybody wants to see Bryce Underwood throw the ball.
- 53:04SPEAKER_00: I do not think that's their game plan.
- 53:06SPEAKER_00: They don't need to do it against Western Michigan, they just need to control the line of scrimmage.
- 53:10SPEAKER_01: I think you're right, but they're gonna need to next week against against Oklahoma.
- 53:14SPEAKER_01: There's no chance of beating Oklahoma doing this rushing attack stuff.
- 53:17SPEAKER_01: Get Oklahoma's good, my Oklahoma might have the best deep might have the best defense in college football.
- 53:22SPEAKER_01: So, again, there's there's there's a there's a part of me that's saying they're gonna want to get Bryce Underwood some confidence, make him take some shots.
- 53:28SPEAKER_01: They do have, for the first time in a long time, some really good receivers.
- 53:31SPEAKER_01: Um, Andrew Marsh is there, uh Jamie French, uh JJ Buchanan, the Utah transfer.
- 53:37SPEAKER_01: So for the first time, really, since Nico Collins, I can't even know last time Michigan had a good really good wide receiver core.
- 53:43SPEAKER_02: Mario Manningham?
- 53:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's been a minute.
- 53:45SPEAKER_01: So, like, I I'm just I'm I just want to know.
- 53:49SPEAKER_01: I think you and I both agree Kyle Whittingham could could choose to cover this game if he wanted to.
- 53:53SPEAKER_01: But my question is, do you think he will?
- 53:56SPEAKER_01: Will he break out his quarterback, let him throw the ball around, get some confidence going into the Oklahoma game, or will he pack it in and just run the damn ball?
- 54:04SPEAKER_01: You got my answer, Mark?
- 54:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 54:10SPEAKER_01: I got nothing in this one.
- 54:11SPEAKER_01: All right, we're staying away.
- 54:12SPEAKER_01: This is too too tricky.
- 54:14SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 54:14SPEAKER_01: All right, next one.
- 54:15SPEAKER_01: Uh UNLV minus three and a half at Hawaii.
- 54:17SPEAKER_01: I just spent a long time complaining to you about how hard it is to go into Hawaii.
- 54:21SPEAKER_01: Disregard all that.
- 54:22SPEAKER_01: I ignore it.
- 54:22SPEAKER_01: UNLV, back to the wall, big bounce back spot.
- 54:25SPEAKER_01: Travel won't be a problem because they can't afford for it to be a problem.
- 54:28SPEAKER_01: Dan Mullen's a good coach.
- 54:29SPEAKER_01: Hawaii was underwhelming versus Stanford.
- 54:31SPEAKER_01: UNLV uh is legitimately really good.
- 54:34SPEAKER_01: I think I said it, I said it last week.
- 54:36SPEAKER_01: They could have and easily should have beaten that Memphis team, which I really do like.
- 54:40SPEAKER_01: UNLV is good.
- 54:42SPEAKER_01: Jackson Arnold is the best version of Jackson Arnold I've ever seen.
- 54:45SPEAKER_01: I got UNLV in a big bounce back spot.
- 54:47SPEAKER_01: People are overselling it.
- 54:48SPEAKER_01: Give me the Rebels to the UNLV?
- 54:52SPEAKER_01: Lobos.
- 54:53SPEAKER_01: No, Rebs, you got it.
- 54:54SPEAKER_01: Rebs is right.
- 54:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 54:54SPEAKER_01: Give me the UNLV.
- 54:56SPEAKER_01: UNLV only have to lay it, only have to lay it three and a half points.
- 54:59SPEAKER_01: What are we doing here?
- 55:00SPEAKER_01: I'm with you.
- 55:01SPEAKER_01: Lay them.
- 55:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 55:02SPEAKER_01: Mark.
- 55:03SPEAKER_01: 100%.
- 55:04SPEAKER_01: All right, cool.
- 55:04SPEAKER_01: UNLV minus three and a half.
- 55:06SPEAKER_01: Good.
- 55:06SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 55:07SPEAKER_01: Uh next one.
- 55:09SPEAKER_01: Um here's just a funny one.
- 55:12SPEAKER_01: Georgia.
- 55:13SPEAKER_01: Georgia is minus 47.5 against Tennessee State.
- 55:16SPEAKER_01: Listen to this.
- 55:17SPEAKER_01: They are 0 and 15 and 1 after the spread of 38 and a half points.
- 55:22SPEAKER_01: Georgia hasn't covered a spread this big in years.
- 55:27SPEAKER_01: It's the Kirby spread.
- 55:28SPEAKER_01: It's the Kirby spread.
- 55:29SPEAKER_01: I have no reason to think they're going to do it here either.
- 55:33SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 55:34SPEAKER_01: Can I get you?
- 55:35SPEAKER_01: Can I get you guys excited about Tennessee State plus 47 and a half?
- 55:39SPEAKER_00: Getting to do they have do they have anyone who weighs over 240 pounds on the offensive line?
- 55:47SPEAKER_00: But that's so many points.
- 55:49SPEAKER_00: Do they have a running back taller than five foot eight?
- 55:52SPEAKER_00: I I can't imagine they do.
- 55:53SPEAKER_01: The point total is the over-under is 54 and a half, which means Vegas is expecting the score to be 50 to 3.
- 56:01SPEAKER_01: They're expecting Tennessee State to get a field goal and nothing else.
- 56:05SPEAKER_01: 47 and a half points is more points than Kirby's going to score.
- 56:08SPEAKER_01: I love Tennessee State plus 47.5.
- 56:11SPEAKER_00: Tennessee State played a game already last weekend.
- 56:15SPEAKER_00: They took a loss, but they scored 24 points.
- 56:18SPEAKER_00: Hey, against against Jackson State.
- 56:22SPEAKER_00: Whoever that is.
- 56:24SPEAKER_02: Oh, did you see the highlights for that one?
- 56:27SPEAKER_02: That was, I believe, the kicker.
- 56:29SPEAKER_02: I think they lined up for a field goal with like 26 seconds left, and the uh the placeholder totally biffed it and they lost that game.
- 56:38SPEAKER_02: Oh, okay.
- 56:39SPEAKER_02: Tennessee state went 2-10 last year.
- 56:43SPEAKER_02: Um they beat Howard and North Carolina AT.
- 56:46SPEAKER_02: They got beat by North Dakota State in week two, 59-3 last year.
- 56:51SPEAKER_01: Well, guys, I This is strictly a Georgia won't do it.
- 56:55SPEAKER_01: They haven't done it yet.
- 56:56SPEAKER_01: They haven't done it this many times.
- 56:57SPEAKER_01: Don't look at gift horse in the mouth.
- 56:59SPEAKER_01: Georgia is not going to cover that many points.
- 57:01SPEAKER_01: It's too many.
- 57:02SPEAKER_00: It's the Kirby spread, like you said.
- 57:04SPEAKER_00: Anything over 38, that's not happening.
- 57:06SPEAKER_00: I'm with you.
- 57:07SPEAKER_00: Go Tennessee State.
- 57:09SPEAKER_00: Um Yeah.
- 57:11SPEAKER_00: What do you think?
- 57:11SPEAKER_00: What do you think, Mark?
- 57:13SPEAKER_02: No.
- 57:14SPEAKER_02: No.
- 57:14SPEAKER_02: I I you may say that, but I just don't think Tennessee State's that good.
- 57:20SPEAKER_03: Go for it.
- 57:22SPEAKER_02: Alright, I think we're staying away.
- 57:23SPEAKER_02: Do you know who the defensive oh do you know who the defensive coordinator at Tennessee State is?
- 57:26SPEAKER_02: I can't wait to find out.
- 57:28SPEAKER_02: Greg Williams from uh former former Redskin.
- 57:34SPEAKER_02: The yeah, and the Saints, he got that hits.
- 57:38SPEAKER_02: Yeah, Bounty Gate.
- 57:39SPEAKER_02: I was thinking spotting gate, but Bounty Gate.
- 57:41SPEAKER_02: That's it.
- 57:41SPEAKER_02: Bounty Gate.
- 57:41SPEAKER_02: He's the defensive coordinator there.
- 57:43SPEAKER_02: Or at least he was for Hasner.
- 57:45SPEAKER_01: Oh, good for him.
- 57:45SPEAKER_01: I hope he's still there.
- 57:46SPEAKER_01: Good luck.
- 57:47SPEAKER_01: Good luck against George.
- 57:50SPEAKER_01: He's still not gonna do anything.
- 57:51SPEAKER_01: So we are so Mark, you are off the Tennessee State plus 47 and a half.
- 57:56SPEAKER_02: No, man.
- 57:57SPEAKER_02: Let's come back to this next week because I think I'm gonna be right.
- 57:59SPEAKER_02: George is gonna put it in the middle of the state.
- 58:00SPEAKER_02: Alright, we're laying off.
- 58:01SPEAKER_02: Alright, we're laying it off.
- 58:02SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 58:03SPEAKER_01: Uh I got the four homers left.
- 58:05SPEAKER_01: Those are the only games, other games we're gonna talk about.
- 58:07SPEAKER_01: Any any other game besides the four homers you guys want to?
- 58:10SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I don't think we've talked about uh UCLA Cal.
- 58:13SPEAKER_00: I have it on my list.
- 58:14SPEAKER_00: I don't know if we want to get to that way.
- 58:15SPEAKER_00: Let's talk about UCLA.
- 58:16SPEAKER_00: Yeah, marquee matchup.
- 58:18SPEAKER_00: And we talked a little bit last epi about um quarterbacks, you know.
- 58:22SPEAKER_00: We got we got Nico Iamaliava uh coming to Cal with a little experience and a couple years of skill.
- 58:31SPEAKER_00: And I think he's gonna show out this year.
- 58:33SPEAKER_00: I think he's gonna have a good year.
- 58:35SPEAKER_00: I think we should take UCLA moneyline on the road.
- 58:39SPEAKER_00: It's so UCLA.
- 58:41SPEAKER_00: They're laying.
- 58:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I really I love that I love the transfers.
- 58:44SPEAKER_01: I love Wayne Knight, the running back.
- 58:45SPEAKER_01: I love Bob Chesney, the coach.
- 58:47SPEAKER_01: My only my only pushback on this, I kind of like Cal too.
- 58:51SPEAKER_01: I JKS is an outstanding quarterback.
- 58:53SPEAKER_01: They're playing at home at Cal Berkeley Memorial Stadium.
- 58:56SPEAKER_01: They've got a new coach, too, Tosh LuPai.
- 58:58SPEAKER_01: So, like who's the Oregon offensive coordinator, who's an offensive guy who knows how to run an office.
- 59:04SPEAKER_01: Right, Will Stein's offensive.
- 59:05SPEAKER_01: He went to Kentucky.
- 59:06SPEAKER_01: Thank you.
- 59:06SPEAKER_01: You're right, you're right, you're right.
- 59:07SPEAKER_01: Defensive coordinator, yeah.
- 59:08SPEAKER_01: Defensive coordinator from Oregon, the offensive coordinator, Will Stein.
- 59:11SPEAKER_01: What's it Kansas?
- 59:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Kentucky.
- 59:13SPEAKER_01: My point, I think both these teams are actually pretty good.
- 59:17SPEAKER_01: This is a stay away from me because I I looked at it for a long time, and I I wouldn't be surprised.
- 59:22SPEAKER_01: I I think both teams might show out and have a great game, frankly.
- 59:25SPEAKER_01: And I think we're talking about like a coin flip, kind of a UNLV Memphis game, like you kind of walk away saying, those are both uh upper half P4 teams, I think.
- 59:36SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 59:38SPEAKER_02: The more I read about uh Tosh Lupoy, the more I liked him, right?
- 59:41SPEAKER_02: Like so he spent some time with Nick Saban in Alabama, he spent three years in the NFL, he spent a year with the Browns, the Falcons, and then Jacksonville.
- 59:50SPEAKER_02: Um, I was listening to a press conference with him earlier today, and I just really liked the dude.
- 59:55SPEAKER_02: Um, he also got in trouble when when uh Sarkeesian got in trouble for buying alcohol for his players back in the day.
- 1:00:01SPEAKER_02: He was one of the guys that was there buying the patron shots.
- 1:00:04SPEAKER_02: So, like, this is just a hard-nosed defensive coach.
- 1:00:08SPEAKER_02: He had that Oregon defense tight.
- 1:00:10SPEAKER_02: I like I you know what?
- 1:00:12SPEAKER_02: I think Cal might not be that bad.
- 1:00:15SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I think the more I read about UCLA, the less I like about him.
- 1:00:18SPEAKER_00: Yeah, Cal's getting a lot of smoke, a lot of a lot I don't know about a brand new new to college.
- 1:00:25SPEAKER_00: I know he spent a lot of time in the NFL.
- 1:00:27SPEAKER_00: Brand new head coach on week one is bound to get a little jitters.
- 1:00:31SPEAKER_00: Um do like UCLA, but it sounds like we're staying away from it.
- 1:00:34SPEAKER_00: I just think it'll be a really fun game to watch.
- 1:00:36SPEAKER_00: I think it's gonna be a fun game to watch indeed.
- 1:00:38SPEAKER_00: Yes, yeah.
- 1:00:38SPEAKER_01: It's 10 30, but it's well, I mean, what else we got?
- 1:00:41SPEAKER_01: What we got else better do?
- 1:00:42SPEAKER_01: I mean, he I think it's two good quarterbacks.
- 1:00:44SPEAKER_01: I think JKS and Nico are two good college quarterbacks, and I think it's two brand new coaches that are unknowns in new spots.
- 1:00:50SPEAKER_01: There's just I I think it's gonna be a great game, but I yeah, I think it's a stay away.
- 1:00:55SPEAKER_01: Um what else you got other than the four homers?
- 1:00:58SPEAKER_00: Um how about we how about this?
- 1:01:02SPEAKER_00: We got um Drew Mestimaker, Andrew just Mestimaaker coming to Oklahoma State.
- 1:01:07SPEAKER_00: They're only laying 14 points at Tulsa.
- 1:01:10SPEAKER_00: Yes, and I think Tulsa is a real a real snoozer, and Oklahoma State is ready to explode.
- 1:01:17SPEAKER_00: And so laying only 14 points.
- 1:01:18SPEAKER_01: I think we'd like I'd get 13 and a half.
- 1:01:21SPEAKER_00: Right, yeah.
- 1:01:22SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I think um I think we're cooking with with the uh Oklahoma State and the new the new North Texas.
- 1:01:30SPEAKER_01: It's not even new, it's the coach, the quarterback, the wide receiver, and the running back, and a beslow of other guys.
- 1:01:36SPEAKER_01: Like it's it's the best offensive battery in the Big 12, especially now that uh Brandon Soresby has gone down in flames.
- 1:01:42SPEAKER_01: Like I I'm with you.
- 1:01:43SPEAKER_01: No, I'm I've I already made my ball prediction that Oklahoma State is gonna be in the Big 12 championship game.
- 1:01:48SPEAKER_01: So you know where I stand on the good folks in Stillwater.
- 1:01:51SPEAKER_01: Um, I love the coach.
- 1:01:53SPEAKER_01: I love what's good.
- 1:01:54SPEAKER_00: Let's let's shoot him out of the cannon.
- 1:01:56SPEAKER_00: Let's get let's get Oklahoma State Cowboys on the scoreboard and lay 14.
- 1:02:00SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you got two votes on.
- 1:02:01SPEAKER_00: Mark, what do you think?
- 1:02:02SPEAKER_02: T Bones Pickens is smiling up from his grave, buddy.
- 1:02:04SPEAKER_02: He's he's happy that they're gonna be back.
- 1:02:06SPEAKER_01: All right, we're throwing Oklahoma State in the mix.
- 1:02:08SPEAKER_02: I like 13 and a half way more than 14 and a half.
- 1:02:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah, of course, of course.
- 1:02:13SPEAKER_00: Um, all right.
- 1:02:14SPEAKER_00: Uh anything else, Darren, before we move the homers?
- 1:02:16SPEAKER_00: I mean, I could go a couple more, but I'll just say this real quick.
- 1:02:19SPEAKER_00: Have you ever heard of a team told Tarleton State?
- 1:02:22SPEAKER_00: Unfortunately, I have.
- 1:02:24SPEAKER_00: So Tarleton State's going to bowling green, and Tarleton State's one of these FCS things, and they they just play at the very top of their division, their level, and they're going, you know, they they've getting a bad rap because they're not a FBS school, but I I say Tarleton State is ready to make the leap, Tarleton Moneyline at Bowling Green.
- 1:02:50SPEAKER_01: I don't know anything about this team.
- 1:02:53SPEAKER_01: I know Tarleton State is.
- 1:02:55SPEAKER_01: I'm looking at the helmet right now.
- 1:02:56SPEAKER_01: That's literally the best I got.
- 1:02:58SPEAKER_01: This is a stay away from me.
- 1:02:58SPEAKER_00: I just to be totally transparent.
- 1:03:01SPEAKER_00: I I watched them one game last year, and I've you know, I heard them on a show or something, watched them and thought, oh, they're playing real football.
- 1:03:09SPEAKER_00: And here they are again.
- 1:03:11SPEAKER_00: Um, I think that's the story on these guys that they're ready to make a leap.
- 1:03:15SPEAKER_00: Uh, so keep your eye out for Tarleton.
- 1:03:18SPEAKER_00: Tarleton State this season.
- 1:03:20SPEAKER_00: Maybe a week two or week three battle.
- 1:03:22SPEAKER_00: Some real football.
- 1:03:23SPEAKER_01: I'll I think I'm I'll I'll tell you what, I will add them to my watch list.
- 1:03:26SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna I'm I think I'm off betting on them this for this week.
- 1:03:28SPEAKER_00: Yeah, million bucks for me to tell you what state they play in.
- 1:03:31SPEAKER_00: No idea.
- 1:03:32SPEAKER_00: Couldn't do it.
- 1:03:32SPEAKER_00: No clue.
- 1:03:33SPEAKER_00: No clue.
- 1:03:34SPEAKER_01: No clue.
- 1:03:34SPEAKER_01: Texas.
- 1:03:36SPEAKER_01: Okay, all right.
- 1:03:36SPEAKER_01: That's a good guess.
- 1:03:37SPEAKER_01: You know, you mean good chance to be a Texas team.
- 1:03:40SPEAKER_00: Maybe they got a Texas boys playing this team.
- 1:03:42SPEAKER_01: Um, all right.
- 1:03:43SPEAKER_01: Anything else?
- 1:03:44SPEAKER_01: All right, stop.
- 1:03:45SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 1:03:45SPEAKER_00: I'll stop.
- 1:03:46SPEAKER_01: All right, let's go with uh let's go with mine first.
- 1:03:49SPEAKER_01: LSU Clemson.
- 1:03:50SPEAKER_01: Uh let's see what the latest line is.
- 1:03:52SPEAKER_01: It came down a bit.
- 1:03:52SPEAKER_01: Oh, nevermind, it's gone back my way.
- 1:03:54SPEAKER_01: LSU is now minus 10 and a half again.
- 1:03:56SPEAKER_01: Uh over under 50 and a half.
- 1:03:58SPEAKER_01: Uh, this game is uh the game day game.
- 1:04:00SPEAKER_01: It's gonna be in uh Tiger Stadium, the real Death Valley, if you will.
- 1:04:06SPEAKER_00: Um especially if they win two years in a row.
- 1:04:08SPEAKER_00: Exactly.
- 1:04:09SPEAKER_00: I think they put a copyright.
- 1:04:10SPEAKER_00: They've invented that claim.
- 1:04:12SPEAKER_01: I am I can't look.
- 1:04:13SPEAKER_01: Okay, a couple of things.
- 1:04:15SPEAKER_01: They're gonna run the LSU's gonna run the hurry up.
- 1:04:17SPEAKER_01: That's what they want.
- 1:04:18SPEAKER_01: That's what uh Lane Kiffin likes to do.
- 1:04:20SPEAKER_01: Chris Vizina has two good receivers, but that's about it.
- 1:04:23SPEAKER_01: And they're saying they might even play his backup, so they're not even that confident in the Clemson quarterback.
- 1:04:27SPEAKER_01: Clemson has the rebuilt offensive line going against uh LSU's rebuilt defensive line, which is probably gonna be the matchup of the game, frankly.
- 1:04:34SPEAKER_01: Um LSU's wide receiver core, super talented, but it's also really deep.
- 1:04:38SPEAKER_01: It's like it's like in fantasy football when you have like eight wide receiver twos and no WR1.
- 1:04:44SPEAKER_01: That's what LSU has right now.
- 1:04:45SPEAKER_01: Just a slew of guys, but we don't know who the guys are.
- 1:04:49SPEAKER_01: Look, I think LSU is gonna win this game by 30, but I can't see it clearly.
- 1:04:53SPEAKER_01: I'm way too close to this one.
- 1:04:54SPEAKER_01: I need you guys to talk me off the ledge.
- 1:04:57SPEAKER_01: I've been drinking the Kool-Aid for this game for eight months.
- 1:05:00SPEAKER_00: What what it's I help me.
- 1:05:03SPEAKER_00: What do you got?
- 1:05:04SPEAKER_00: Yeah, Clemson, we're looking at a team that lost to Syracuse last year.
- 1:05:08SPEAKER_00: We're looking at a team.
- 1:05:09SPEAKER_00: I mean, I I could if I wish I knew the rest of the list of who they lost to.
- 1:05:14SPEAKER_00: Wake Forest, they lost the yeah.
- 1:05:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah, they lost Wake, they lost else, they lost Syracuse, they lost, also lost all their talent.
- 1:05:18SPEAKER_01: TJ Parker, Antonio Williams, now commanders, Peter Woods, Klubnik's gone.
- 1:05:22SPEAKER_01: They've lost so many.
- 1:05:24SPEAKER_01: They're a worse team than they were last year.
- 1:05:26SPEAKER_00: They got a brand new group of quarterbacks that who knows who is.
- 1:05:30SPEAKER_00: How in the world are they supposed to go to LSU and keep it within 10 points?
- 1:05:36SPEAKER_00: Uh absolutely lay lay the 10 with the tigers.
- 1:05:39SPEAKER_00: The real tigers, the real tigers.
- 1:05:41SPEAKER_01: I think the I think the story really is like, is LSU as good as we think they are?
- 1:05:45SPEAKER_01: I don't think it's Clemson.
- 1:05:46SPEAKER_01: I think this game is actually about LSU and Lane Kiffin and how quickly can he get it rolling.
- 1:05:52SPEAKER_01: Frankly.
- 1:05:52SPEAKER_01: I don't, you know, like that's if if we sputter a lot, if we throw a bad interception, if we're sloppy, a miscommunication on the end-a-round fumble, a short field, like all the week one nervous jittery stuff.
- 1:06:06SPEAKER_01: If LSU is not a well-oiled machine week one, like I think that's how Clemson covers, frankly.
- 1:06:11SPEAKER_01: Um, but if we if we are the team that we're supposed to be on paper and we're executing the way we're supposed to executing, I think we win by 40.
- 1:06:18SPEAKER_01: I don't, I mean, I said 30 minutes ago, I'll up it.
- 1:06:20SPEAKER_01: I think we're gonna blow the doors off them.
- 1:06:23SPEAKER_01: Um, but I also know that I am super biased, so I might be seeing it too.
- 1:06:31SPEAKER_02: How many NFL players are you gonna have on the LSU team this weekend?
- 1:06:37SPEAKER_01: I mean, I've five effort of it.
- 1:06:40SPEAKER_01: I mean five or six.
- 1:06:41SPEAKER_01: Oh, oh god, I missed it.
- 1:06:42SPEAKER_02: How many guys that were in preseason care for the NFL last week are gonna be on LSD?
- 1:06:48SPEAKER_00: Can we get Jamar Chase back for a one-day contract?
- 1:06:50SPEAKER_01: The injunction we'll know on Thursday.
- 1:06:52SPEAKER_01: We're gonna know that by the end of this week.
- 1:06:53SPEAKER_01: We don't need him.
- 1:06:54SPEAKER_01: It's a backup defensive tackle who's apparently not in, he's not even in game shape, won't play, and a second and a backup tight end.
- 1:07:01SPEAKER_01: The defensive end from Notre Dame is in a different category.
- 1:07:03SPEAKER_01: Everyone, he is qualified, he's successful, never even sniffed the NFL.
- 1:07:07SPEAKER_01: He's playing, so we have him qualified.
- 1:07:09SPEAKER_01: My point is it's a backup defensive tackle and a backup tight end, neither of which are really instrumental at all to LSU.
- 1:07:15SPEAKER_01: My guess is neither of them play because we are gonna have to your original question before I miss the joke, 15 NFL guys on our roster who will play.
- 1:07:24SPEAKER_01: So I don't know.
- 1:07:25SPEAKER_01: Help me out here.
- 1:07:26SPEAKER_01: Why am I why are we not why am I not putting betting my life savings on this game?
- 1:07:30SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 1:07:31SPEAKER_01: Mark, you like it?
- 1:07:32SPEAKER_02: Uh I I like it.
- 1:07:33SPEAKER_02: I like LSU, man.
- 1:07:35SPEAKER_02: Like I think Lane Kiffin is an excellent coach.
- 1:07:38SPEAKER_02: Um, I think you've got all the talent in the world, and um I just don't see Clemson stepping up yet.
- 1:07:44SPEAKER_02: I think Clemson will end up being decent this year, but I don't think I don't think they're coming out this week.
- 1:07:49SPEAKER_02: I think LSU's gonna dominate this game.
- 1:07:51SPEAKER_02: And I you're drinking the Kool-Aid because it's the truth.
- 1:07:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I hope you're right.
- 1:07:55SPEAKER_01: God, I hope you're right.
- 1:07:55SPEAKER_01: Can't wait to find out.
- 1:07:56SPEAKER_01: All right, we're taking it.
- 1:07:57SPEAKER_01: That's our nine, man.
- 1:07:58SPEAKER_01: We're we already got a doozy of a bet, folks.
- 1:08:00SPEAKER_01: Uh we're at nine legs so far.
- 1:08:03SPEAKER_01: Uh three games to go.
- 1:08:05SPEAKER_01: UVA is off, they're not playing, so we're not gonna worry about them.
- 1:08:07SPEAKER_01: Tennessee, minus 48 and a half.
- 1:08:09SPEAKER_01: Uh, they're hosting Furman.
- 1:08:11SPEAKER_01: Um, stay away from me.
- 1:08:12SPEAKER_01: Brandon Faison, new quarterback, new new coordinator.
- 1:08:15SPEAKER_01: Furman's a small school in South Carolina, might be 70 to 3, might be 40 to 10.
- 1:08:20SPEAKER_01: I have no idea.
- 1:08:21SPEAKER_01: I want to see.
- 1:08:22SPEAKER_01: Uh, there's Tennessee is a high-ceiling team, uh, low floor.
- 1:08:26SPEAKER_01: I need to see it first.
- 1:08:27SPEAKER_01: So I'm I'm I'm not interested in Tennessee Furman.
- 1:08:30SPEAKER_01: But well, what do you guys think?
- 1:08:32SPEAKER_01: No, I'm not interested.
- 1:08:33SPEAKER_01: From a betting standpoint, stay away.
- 1:08:35SPEAKER_01: Okay, yeah, just don't know.
- 1:08:36SPEAKER_01: I just don't know.
- 1:08:37SPEAKER_01: Okay, cool.
- 1:08:37SPEAKER_01: Uh let's move to the next one.
- 1:08:38SPEAKER_01: Uh, Iowa playing northern Iowa.
- 1:08:40SPEAKER_01: Mark, I'm gonna lean on you for this one.
- 1:08:42SPEAKER_01: Uh, this game is oh, there it is.
- 1:08:44SPEAKER_01: Uh, Northern Iowa at Iowa Kinnex Stadium.
- 1:08:46SPEAKER_01: This game's at 415, the Big Ten network.
- 1:08:49SPEAKER_01: Uh, Iowa's laying 31 and a half.
- 1:08:51SPEAKER_01: That's a big number.
- 1:08:52SPEAKER_01: Total is 44 and a half.
- 1:08:54SPEAKER_01: What that says is Vegas thinks Northern Iowa is gonna get a touchdown and nothing more.
- 1:08:58SPEAKER_01: Is northern is Iowa's defense that good?
- 1:09:00SPEAKER_01: They're gonna only give up seven points.
- 1:09:04SPEAKER_02: I think Iowa's defense is that good.
- 1:09:05SPEAKER_02: I think their offensive line is that good.
- 1:09:07SPEAKER_02: I think the only problem with Iowa right now is when you have two quarterbacks, you have no quarterback.
- 1:09:10SPEAKER_02: Correct.
- 1:09:11SPEAKER_02: So um they're gonna they're gonna commit to playing both guys, but until one of them actually steps up and does something.
- 1:09:17SPEAKER_02: Um, I don't see I Iowa's historically struggled to put up more than 28 points in a single game.
- 1:09:23SPEAKER_01: I'm not laying 31 five, I'm not laying 31 and a half points in Iowa Millet depends on.
- 1:09:27SPEAKER_01: I just can't do it.
- 1:09:28SPEAKER_02: No, this is I mean, they're probably gonna win like 27 to 7.
- 1:09:32SPEAKER_02: Um and that would be a good win.
- 1:09:33SPEAKER_02: That's gonna be a big win for Iowa right there.
- 1:09:35SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:09:36SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:09:36SPEAKER_00: 27 27 is actually a lot of points for for Iowa.
- 1:09:39SPEAKER_00: Also, we're talking 18 to 10.
- 1:09:41SPEAKER_02: In the pre-Tim Lester era.
- 1:09:44SPEAKER_02: This is not the what is uh what forensis son is no longer the offensive coordinator.
- 1:09:49SPEAKER_02: We have we have Tim Lester, former head coach of Western Michigan.
- 1:09:53SPEAKER_00: Um, but they're yeah, I'm they must have some sort of record about scoring the weirdest points.
- 1:10:01SPEAKER_00: Like they they score 19, they score like 11 points.
- 1:10:06SPEAKER_00: Iowa just tends to do that in a final score, 18 to 4.
- 1:10:10SPEAKER_00: It's like the weirdest stuff.
- 1:10:13SPEAKER_00: So yeah, they're not covered.
- 1:10:15SPEAKER_00: They're not covered.
- 1:10:16SPEAKER_01: They're not covered, but I'm also not I'm also not betting on the on the proud the proud northern Iowa huskies.
- 1:10:21SPEAKER_01: I can't do that either.
- 1:10:21SPEAKER_01: I just is uh this is a stay away from this is a stay away from me too.
- 1:10:25SPEAKER_01: Okay, cool.
- 1:10:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah, all right.
- 1:10:26SPEAKER_01: So the last game we can't bet on it because the Virginia Tech VMI, but Darren, well, this is your team, your game.
- 1:10:32SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna let you lead us on this one.
- 1:10:34SPEAKER_00: So in Blacksburg Saturday night, the James Franklin era begins.
- 1:10:39SPEAKER_00: Uh I can't believe it's a night game because we've got VMI key debts coming up the road.
- 1:10:45SPEAKER_00: Uh 81 South down to Blacksburg.
- 1:10:48SPEAKER_00: So we got a good friend on the Discord listening to the pod from day one named Charles Cowherd.
- 1:10:53SPEAKER_00: Shout out to Charles, one of our best buds for 20 plus years.
- 1:10:57SPEAKER_00: Charles is a VMI grad.
- 1:11:00SPEAKER_00: And so I asked Charles, can you tell us something about VMI?
- 1:11:04SPEAKER_00: Okay, we know we know this game's gonna be an absolute uh dismantling by the Virginia Tech Hokies, right?
- 1:11:12SPEAKER_00: In Lady Stadium at night after Inner Sandman.
- 1:11:15SPEAKER_00: So Charles put together a little something, and I gotta tell you, it's a doozy.
- 1:11:19SPEAKER_00: So sit back and buckle up here for a little something about VMI.
- 1:11:24SPEAKER_00: Ready?
- 1:11:25SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 1:11:26SPEAKER_00: My name is Charles Cowherd, and I am one of the inaugural members of the Mike Blitz Discord and a graduate of the Virginia Military Institute class of 2003.
- 1:11:38SPEAKER_00: Charles writes on VMI is one of the tiniest schools in Division I and yet has yet and and yet has an outsized ego in terms of its capabilities in the sporting world.
- 1:11:52SPEAKER_00: You might have met a VMI grad, particularly if you live in the Richmond area.
- 1:11:57SPEAKER_00: They are that rather intense man who has his tucked in his t-shirt into his shorts and is really trying to shell you that insurance policy.
- 1:12:08SPEAKER_00: Despite a few decades of losing football, along with other sports, Hope dies hard as a cadet, and the upcoming matchup with Virginia Tech sparks some belief that we can defeat our neighbor only 80 miles down I-81.
- 1:12:22SPEAKER_00: This, despite not having a graduate school, and thus cannot have fifth-year seniors, and rarely accepting transfers.
- 1:12:30SPEAKER_00: Rabbit alumni will be quick to invoke the Hasselon days of your when the VMI VPI rivalry was indeed a real thing.
- 1:12:40SPEAKER_00: Wikipedia tells me that the two schools started playing in 1894, but have not played since 1984.
- 1:12:49SPEAKER_00: We're just getting started here, guys.
- 1:12:51SPEAKER_00: Let's sit back, relax, at one time it was called the Military Classic of the South, and VMI indeed has some success in the 50s and 60s.
- 1:13:00SPEAKER_00: Virginia's tech still leads the rivalry with a record of 49 to 25 and 5 draws.
- 1:13:09SPEAKER_00: To hear VMI alumni talk about it, these successes were just last week, and our fortunes could be improved simply by placing more stringent demands upon our student athletes.
- 1:13:18SPEAKER_00: This is in fact the VMI solution to everything.
- 1:13:22SPEAKER_00: Centuries ago, the Greek historian Thusiades said that the ones who come out on top are the ones who have been trained in the hardest school.
- 1:13:34SPEAKER_00: That quote is the sine qua non of my alma mater.
- 1:13:38SPEAKER_00: That is the reason that we cannot beat Virginia Tech or East NSD State or practically anyone else, is that our football players are coddled and do not have to go through the rat line experience alongside the rest of the core cadets.
- 1:13:55SPEAKER_00: This is Charles Cowhard, ladies and gentlemen, our friend who we know and love, which he just this is him in a nutshell, so I'm just gonna keep going.
- 1:14:04SPEAKER_00: As if Nick Saban's secret strategy this whole time was to deprive his football players of basic nutrition and any positive encouragement while making them do thousands of push-ups and shine shine their shoes incessantly.
- 1:14:19SPEAKER_00: This strange alchemy, to be sure, did produce graduates like General George C.
- 1:14:24SPEAKER_00: Marshall, architect of the US victory in World War II, and author of the Marshall Plan, and member of the VMI football team in 1900, which defeated the Hokies in Roanoke, Virginia by the score of five to zero.
- 1:14:42SPEAKER_00: This I am almost certain that those memories won't be enough for this Saturday, and we could have a bloodbath on our hands and early.
- 1:14:51SPEAKER_00: Despite knowing that full well before the game starts, I will indeed put on my oversized class ring, tuck my t-shirt into my shorts, and believe for a few moments that we can do the unthinkable.
- 1:15:06SPEAKER_00: As the score goes in the wrong direction, I will fall back on the knowledge that at least we are not the Citadel.
- 1:15:14SPEAKER_00: Ra Virginia Mill, rah Virginia Mill, Ra Virginia Mill, whole damn team.
- 1:15:20SPEAKER_00: Thank you, Charles Cowherd, for a glimpse into GM VMI.
- 1:15:24SPEAKER_01: That was awesome.
- 1:15:26SPEAKER_01: Oh my gosh.
- 1:15:27SPEAKER_01: I can hear, I could hear I've known Charles for 20 plus years as well.
- 1:15:30SPEAKER_01: I could hear Charles in your voice.
- 1:15:31SPEAKER_01: I can hear that.
- 1:15:32SPEAKER_01: Do you channeled him well?
- 1:15:33SPEAKER_01: Well done.
- 1:15:36SPEAKER_01: Oh man, thank you so much for that.
- 1:15:37SPEAKER_01: Uh Virginia Tech uh is laying uh 55 and a half points for that one over under wind total, over under 60, 62 and a half, and Vegas applying a score of 59 to 3.
- 1:15:50SPEAKER_01: So we'll just have to see how that goes.
- 1:15:52SPEAKER_01: Can't play it on that one.
- 1:15:53SPEAKER_01: Uh all right.
- 1:15:54SPEAKER_02: I uh I have a I have a very, very good friend of mine that is the number two uh passing leader in VMI history, Alan Lester, who was there from like 1994 to 1997.
- 1:16:04SPEAKER_02: A great guy, a great quarterback.
- 1:16:06SPEAKER_02: I wish VMI the absolute best.
- 1:16:07SPEAKER_02: I had a lot of great friends that went there, but VPI will destroy this.
- 1:16:12SPEAKER_01: Yes, they will.
- 1:16:13SPEAKER_01: All right, so we have our nine-leg parlay tonight.
- 1:16:16SPEAKER_01: Louisville plus uh plus six and a half, under 55.5, same game.
- 1:16:20SPEAKER_01: Auburn laying seven and a half, and uh hosting Baylor, SMU at Florida State, minus three and a half, Oregon hoisting host hosting Boise, uh 20 minus 24 and a half, under Miami uh Stanford, 47.5, UNLV, minus three and a half at Hawaii, Oklahoma State, minus 13.5 at Tulsa, LSU minus 10.5 at LS.
- 1:16:42SPEAKER_01: I'm sorry, LS Clemson at LSU, minus 10.5.
- 1:16:46SPEAKER_01: Those nine legs, ten dollars to win you four thousand seventy-eight dollars.
- 1:16:55SPEAKER_01: Oh holy smugs.
- 1:16:56SPEAKER_01: We might have got a little help ahead of ourselves on this one.
- 1:16:59SPEAKER_01: That's not a winner without a boost.
- 1:17:01SPEAKER_01: That's without the boost.
- 1:17:02SPEAKER_01: You know, that's gonna be like six and a half thousand for anybody who's got a boost, including myself.
- 1:17:05SPEAKER_01: Uh, I can't wait to bet that.
- 1:17:07SPEAKER_01: Um, oh, that link will be in the in the in the Discord.
- 1:17:10SPEAKER_01: We'll share it on the socials as well if you want to tell nine lay parlay, tend to win about four grand.
- 1:17:14SPEAKER_01: Those are your mic blitz bets of the week.
- 1:17:16SPEAKER_01: That is the mic, that is the week one.
- 1:17:18SPEAKER_01: If we hit that, I'm I'm quitting my job.
- 1:17:20SPEAKER_01: I don't I just don't think, you know, we're just back to back.
- 1:17:23SPEAKER_01: Parlay is unbelievable.
- 1:17:24SPEAKER_00: That's what the best thing about something that crazy is that maybe you don't want to waste that 10 bucks.
- 1:17:29SPEAKER_00: You'd rather keep it, but one dollar wins you four hundred.
- 1:17:33SPEAKER_00: That's true.
- 1:17:33SPEAKER_00: You don't had a dollar.
- 1:17:35SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I'm betting 100.
- 1:17:36SPEAKER_00: We're talking 400 to one here.
- 1:17:38SPEAKER_00: That's true.
- 1:17:38SPEAKER_01: Well, you can pick up a dollar on the ground.
- 1:17:40SPEAKER_01: You know, yeah, it's not a big deal.
- 1:17:42SPEAKER_01: And some quarters on the couch.
- 1:17:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah, just for fun.
- 1:17:44SPEAKER_01: That's right.
- 1:17:44SPEAKER_01: So that is your Mike Blitz bet Mike, the Mike Blitz parlay of the week.
- 1:17:49SPEAKER_01: Well, uh, folks, we're a little over an hour.
- 1:17:51SPEAKER_01: We run a little bit long.
- 1:17:52SPEAKER_01: I think we're about done.
- 1:17:53SPEAKER_01: Anything else for the good of the order before we sign off here?
- 1:17:55SPEAKER_00: Thank you, Charles Cowherd.
- 1:17:58SPEAKER_00: Uh, looking forward to seeing the key debts take the field with pride.
- 1:18:01SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 1:18:02SPEAKER_01: Uh, folks, I hope you enjoy week one.
- 1:18:04SPEAKER_01: We are here, we finally made it.
- 1:18:05SPEAKER_01: All of our teams are playing.
- 1:18:06SPEAKER_01: Very excited for all of you.
- 1:18:07SPEAKER_01: Congratulations, college football fans.
- 1:18:08SPEAKER_01: Uh, the best time of the year, Hannah's better than Christmas.
- 1:18:12SPEAKER_01: Uh, we will be back Sunday, I think.
- 1:18:14SPEAKER_01: Or we have to figure that out.
- 1:18:16SPEAKER_01: We're with our with our post-game review.
- 1:18:18SPEAKER_01: Go from there.
- 1:18:19SPEAKER_01: And uh we'll look at week week two.
- 1:18:21SPEAKER_01: Week two is a doozy.
- 1:18:22SPEAKER_01: Michigan, Ohio State.
- 1:18:23SPEAKER_01: Sorry, no, Michigan, Oklahoma, Ohio State, Texas, among several others.
- 1:18:28SPEAKER_01: Gonna be an absolute banger of uh second week of college football.
- 1:18:31SPEAKER_01: So enjoy Saturday.
- 1:18:33SPEAKER_01: Look forward, tons of great matches coming up.
- 1:18:34SPEAKER_01: That's all, folks.
- 1:18:35SPEAKER_01: All right, see ya.
- 1:18:37SPEAKER_00: Welcome to football season.
- 1:18:40SPEAKER_01: 4,000 American dollars.
- 1:18:43SPEAKER_01: That is silly.
- 1:18:46SPEAKER_01: Send the link.
- 1:18:50SPEAKER_01: I mean, we hit seven leggers twice two years ago, so what's what's two more legs?
- 1:18:54SPEAKER_01: Nine leg is doable.
- 1:18:56SPEAKER_01: I'll do my map.
- 1:18:57SPEAKER_03: Hey, Hollywood! Hey, Hollywood go! Go!
- 1:19:03SPEAKER_00: Tell you go outside on a Saturday morning, get out in the flower beds a little bit.
- 1:19:08SPEAKER_00: My coffee's gonna hit good.
- 1:19:10SPEAKER_00: A little chill in the air.
- 1:19:11SPEAKER_00: It's the greatest thing in the world.
- 1:19:13SPEAKER_02: Like seven bell peppers ready to be picked.
