Latest / AWAKEN with Dylan Ayaloo: Inner Work, Healing, Yoga & Meditation / [EP67] How to deal with anxiety about using AI (is it your values or not understanding it?)
Transcript
- 0:00I agree with the, it has the ability because our reliance on it, because of its ability to make things easy or seem easier, that we become reliant on it.
- 0:18So we stop doing the thing that we can bring most value in, which is thinking.
- 0:30You know, and I know in a work, I talk about thinking as a thing that gets in the way of being.
- 0:37But that's, you know, another topic, right?
- 0:39Like that's another level.
- 0:41But thinking has a place.
- 0:43And so let's talk about, you know, let's say like creativity, you know, or writing.
- 0:51You know, even if it's like writing a blog or writing an email.
- 0:59at the end of the day
- 1:01AI can be in my opinion from my experience
- 1:03it can be used to do all of the heavy lifting
- 1:07you know in the background you know like doing the research
- 1:10putting things together maybe coming up with stuff but ultimately
- 1:15you know it's still I think of it like it's like a machine
- 1:18you know so even from back in my
- 1:21my like tech days back in the day um you know we have to say we have a saying that it's like garbage
- 1:27in garbage out so you know and with ai it's actually we don't even have to put garbage in
- 1:32it just kind of it has this ability to like just fill up the blanks so therefore you know we just
- 1:38kind of get lazy and we rely on it but you know i think outsourcing our own kind of agency and
- 1:47thinking is probably not a good idea because it's training our brain to you know it's like
- 1:53the muscle of thinking we are we are you know not doing the thinking part but i think if we
- 2:00are doing our own thinking and coming up with our ideas and um creativity our own voice and then
- 2:08we're using ai in a way that you know can maybe do the heavy lifting like let's say it does the
- 2:14work of, I don't know, in place of having a team. Like, you know, for example, for the stuff I do,
- 2:20I don't have a team. My team is basically like just AI. Like I've just kind of built things and
- 2:24it runs things, you know, in the background. So therefore I can get quite a lot of stuff
- 2:28happening in the background and it's automated. The automations, you know, they just run themselves.
- 2:34But the thinking behind it is something that I think, you know, each and every one of us,
- 2:40we should be doing. Also, I think, you know, how many times do you, like, let's say if you're on
- 2:47social media, you know, you pick up like a post that just pops up, or maybe you get an email,
- 2:53and it just, you can tell that that person who put their name on the email didn't write the email,
- 2:58like you can just read it, and it just sounds like some robot slop, basically, like AI slop.
- 3:05and I don't know about you
- 3:06but I think for me
- 3:07it can just feel like, hang on
- 3:11you couldn't even care
- 3:12to spend a few minutes
- 3:13and sometimes it takes more than a few minutes
- 3:16to just sit down and write the email
- 3:19and send me the thing
- 3:21so what do we do?
- 3:23We're just going to switch off
- 3:26I'm sure you guys do that too
- 3:28so same with
- 3:30stuff that's just like
- 3:31so much AI slop now
- 3:32which we were predicting
- 3:34like you know a couple years ago when AI launched now there is so in a sense you know if you're
- 3:40running a business you know especially if it's like you're the face of the brand which you know
- 3:45is needed for most of our businesses you know our people our community our customers still
- 3:52wants to relate you know to us like they want to relate to you they want to feel like even if it's
- 3:59a short email there's mistakes in it you know or just like spelling errors or just like sounds you
- 4:05know a bit strange but like it's a human that actually took time to write it that's better
- 4:10than having a perfectly written email maybe grammatically but you can tell it's just kind
- 4:16of like slop like just you know ai slop basically or just ai right um and they couldn't you know
- 4:24Like all that's needed there is I could get it to help me write kind of a draft of it.
- 4:29But at the end of the day, like I want to put my voice to it.
- 4:33And I think, you know, that's just like a letter or an email or a message.
- 4:37But if we zoom out to bigger things, like let's say if it's, you know, my business and I'm thinking about, you know, what to put the resources into, what to focus on.
- 4:47AI is just going to fill up the blanks and make things up, you know, and guess.
- 4:54does it's very good at doing that so it's good at like you can use that for certain things it's very
- 4:58good at doing that but for other things you know it's just probably not the right you still want
- 5:03to do your own thinking like you know you still want to kind of work out what is the thing you
- 5:07know which direction do i want to take my business what is it that i enjoy what is my purpose here
- 5:12what is the biggest bottleneck what are my customers saying to me you know and thinking
- 5:17through that you know and having the conversations and listening to people and you know adjusting
- 5:24and also what matches and how you can serve your customers, for example.
- 5:28So like there's, you know, thinking, if anything, is at more a premium.
- 5:34You know, authenticity is at more a premium.
- 5:39And because everything is kind of just so sloppy right now,
- 5:42it's just like so much just AI crap out there.
- 5:47In a way, it's easier than ever to stand out.
- 5:52It's by being real.
- 5:53It's by being authentic.
- 5:54you know it's by actually taking a moment to write an email even if it's kind of you make some mistakes some human mistakes there or if we're doing a video for it to just that you know like there's the ums and ahs and you know you're fumbling around in it and that's okay because people can relate they can see like okay there's a real person that actually took some time to record that message you know for me and whoever else is listening.
- 6:20so I think you know there's a time and place for it but it can you know it can be used for
- 6:26I want to say wrong things but like not useful things you know and that is I agree with what
- 6:33you're saying in my opinion like outsourcing thinking is not a good idea because it's we
- 6:40I don't think it was actually kind of even built for that you know well it's built for you know
- 6:45it's continually evolving this whole other conversation but so i agree on like you know
- 6:51just like we would work out our muscles we want to keep working you know our thinking muscle
- 6:56you know and our ability to discern and um you know like have distinctions between different
- 7:04ideas and come up with ideas and thoughts and you know creativity and all of that i think there is
- 7:11just like any other tool that has been you know created through human history you know whether it
- 7:19was like i don't know back in the day when they were plowing the field with the horse and the cart
- 7:25and then suddenly someone came out with the tractor and they're like oh i'm not going to
- 7:28use a tractor because you know it's burning fuel and it's this and that and you know and then now
- 7:32was just like normal you know all I don't know when computers I wasn't I
- 7:40came after computers came but it was kind of like early days you know when I
- 7:43was a kid you know like back in the day the early days of computers from then
- 7:50you know people were like oh technology doesn't like me or I'm allergic to
- 7:53technology or he hates me and it's like no it's just like a machine you know
- 7:56like does your toaster hate you does your cattle hate you is making that
- 8:02noise i mean maybe it hates me and it's like we're making shit up you know like a computer is just
- 8:08computer now it's actually more normal than it was maybe 20 30 years ago you know we just use it for
- 8:12what we use it for and i think it's the same kind of mindset that like you can either resist it
- 8:18or and which is completely you know up to whoever wants to do that or for me i believe like i'm just
- 8:24in a question of how can I use this superpower like it's actually a superpower you know like
- 8:32most people have no idea how powerful this technology is it's like having a nuclear bomb
- 8:39being given to just a general human being like everyone everyday person you know and you can
- 8:45take that and use it as some people are to heal diseases that have never been able to be healed
- 8:54advance, you know, health, connection, you know, all sorts of things.
- 8:58Like our experience of being here as a human being to make it even better, to improve it.
- 9:06And then there's people who are using it for very evil things, you know, because that's
- 9:12how they're wired.
- 9:14And then, you know, everything in between.
- 9:16But most people are kind of just using it for like day to day, just like being lazy.
- 9:21Like, you know, I don't want to think.
- 9:22So I'll just like, you know, give it the thing.
- 9:25path of least resistance you know and I think just like the muscle when you go
- 9:30to the gym and work it out or when you're doing yoga postures you know like
- 9:32you're working the muscle you're stretching it you're strengthening it if
- 9:35you don't use it atrophies it's kind of like that you know the ability to think
- 9:39and be creative you know if anything I think it can be used in such a way that
- 9:45at least my opinion is that it can automate all of those mundane things
- 9:49that I really don't need to be doing you know like I don't need to go down
- 9:54stairs or you know like go into the I don't know the bush and find some pieces
- 10:00of wood and rocks and then you know find some how to like make a pot and then you
- 10:05know like find some I go and find some water and then you know like put the
- 10:09fire on so I can boil the water like I've got a device that I can just pour
- 10:13water and click it it boils water done and I can make cup tea I want right so
- 10:20you know so i believe it can be used in such a way that it can automate some of those mundane
- 10:26things so that it frees us up to have more of the things that actually matter to us you know like
- 10:32connecting with our loved ones you know going out in nature experiencing like you know just
- 10:38all of the stuff that makes us human and this human experience that we can actually experience
- 10:45more of that and you know use you know a superpower that's been put in our hands that
- 10:50it's never existed before in ways that can maybe help others you know and it maybe doesn't have to
- 10:58like be so grandiose as it it heals a disease you know of you know in humanity you can obviously if
- 11:05you want to because it's more possible now than ever but it can even just be little things you
- 11:11And there are lots of people who have come up with amazing, amazing ideas and solve tools and technology and what they've built using AI and then making it into a device or whatever that they need to make.
- 11:27And there's some really, really cool things out there.
- 11:30And there are some really, really horrible, evil things as well.
- 11:35And my take on it, it's just my opinion.
- 11:38I don't think it's going to go away.
- 11:40so I might as well learn how to use it
- 11:43and be in the front of the wave
- 11:48and use it to do as much good as I can
- 11:51within the parameters of what I enjoy
- 11:53and my purpose
- 11:55and what I can and would like to
- 11:58actually get involved in
- 11:59at least that's my kind of opinion
- 12:01rather than burying my head in the sand
- 12:04and ignoring it
- 12:05or hoping it doesn't go away
- 12:06or just talking shit about it
- 12:08and just thinking
- 12:09like you know just because I'm saying bad shit about it it's just going to disappear out of my
- 12:13life I don't have to deal with it like no it's not going to go away you know if anything if I
- 12:18just spent some time you know got over my own thing which is I don't want to learn it and I got
- 12:22you know spent some time learned it and started to use it suddenly I now have you know a superpower
- 12:29so I'm really glad that I've spent you know like a good part of this year really delving deep into
- 12:36it because i mean i have a tech background but to be honest you don't need a tech background
- 12:40you know and i think it's worth learning it's it's like doing the things that's difficult
- 12:46you know and we we we want to run away from the stuff that's difficult so it's like oh this thing
- 12:52is confusing i don't understand it guess what for the first time ever we have a thing that if we
- 12:58don't understand we can just ask it and then it'll teach us and it's actually very good at that's one
- 13:03things very good at doing what does that mean oh it explains you in a very simple way i don't
- 13:08understand it explain it to a simple way and then it's like teaches you it's so good at doing that
- 13:13so it's easier than ever you know like there's actually less um i wouldn't say resistance but
- 13:21like it's easier for us to you know just use that to to learn how to use it um and you know it's up
- 13:29to us what we want to do with it um so let me just read your question again and see if you know
- 13:34the thing about the water yes like you know there is it does use water it does you know for cooling
- 13:40and stuff like that yes but there are actually people working on technologies that can like
- 13:47solve that as well you know so there are people working on that there's like very very intelligent
- 13:52people working on some really complex problems using using these um yeah governments i mean
- 14:00that's a whole other conversation that i want to go into but you know i think whether it's
- 14:05governments or corporations or whoever they are you know if they're doing bad and if i don't agree
- 14:10then you know what part can i play in in changing that you know so for me that's what transformation
- 14:17was about you know like inner work yoga meditation I delved into that you know for like the last 20
- 14:23years because I'm like okay I'm gonna have impacts in you know using these really powerful tools to
- 14:29help people in these ways then for me AI is just another way it's a different one
- 14:35when I post them people tell me yeah it tells you it's AI content makes you anxious
- 14:39the anxious part is actually your stuff to work on we can talk about that if you want
- 14:44using something that doesn't align with me.
- 14:46Yeah, fair enough.
- 14:47And you have the choice to not use it.
- 14:49You have the choice to actually just ignore it
- 14:52or push it away or like some people just,
- 14:56I don't know, just talk bad things about it,
- 14:58but it's not going to go away.
- 15:01Like computers, you know,
- 15:02like all the times I hear people all these years,
- 15:04people say, oh, you know, computers don't like me.
- 15:06That's their excuse for not sitting down and learning.
- 15:10You know, and now more than ever,
- 15:13free you know like unlimited information YouTube videos whatever like stuff out
- 15:18there to learn I don't understand computers how do I learn like what do I
- 15:22need to do okay so let me just go and do the thing so I think like that you know
- 15:26I look at like what part is this my resistance and do I want to do something
- 15:31about it you know is there something for me to work on here I guess that crosses
- 15:35into you know like you know work how do I navigate through this unless just stop
- 15:39using it altogether i'm just starting to make friends with technology
- 15:43but it causes me anxiety when it's not aligning with me i think you know like the aligning part
- 15:50that's up to you like to work out what aligns with you and you know like then i agree you know
- 15:57like aligning yourself to what is important to you what what values are important to you
- 16:04so of course if something doesn't align then don't align with that don't go and try and align with
- 16:09that but also just to say like you know we can evolve our values but they can grow and change
- 16:16you know just like we can grow and change you know like we're not a fixed you know we're not
- 16:20like a rock that's just like fixed you know we can grow and evolve and change so kind of like that
- 16:28you know, I'm open to changing, I'm open to growing, and I'm open to evolving, you know,
- 16:35because life is ever evolving. That's the one constant in life, like it's ever changing,
- 16:40right? So if I'm going to just be fixed in my ways, then I'm just going to stay fixed,
- 16:44I'm going to have to resist a lot of like, life is constant change, I'm gonna have to resist
- 16:48change a lot, you know, which is like a lot of hard work as well. So work out what aligns for
- 16:54you. And then the anxiety part, it's like, what actually is the thing that's causing you an
- 16:58is it that technology is scary you know so when you go into the thing it's confusing you don't
- 17:04understand it and you click this something happens something got deleted shit what happened
- 17:08okay so underneath that is i need to understand i don't understand this i don't know how the hell
- 17:15it works what can i do for me to learn how to like how to understand what what it's doing how
- 17:21it's working you know there's loads of free resources out there that you can go and spend
- 17:28comes from me not feeling in control maybe because I don't understand and because I don't understand
- 17:33I feel anxious and because I feel anxious I just think okay some part of me thinks let me just run
- 17:39away from it hopefully it'll go away or hopefully it'll be okay or hopefully someone will just hand
- 17:43it for me that's fine you know that's one way of living but it's going to give you a you know a
- 17:49certain set of results you know or you can say actually I'm going to spend some time every day
- 17:55or every time I hit a problem,
- 17:57something is difficult or something doesn't work,
- 18:00let me just ask this tool
- 18:02or let me just go and search and find some videos
- 18:04that can teach me this thing.
- 18:08And start from the fundamentals,
- 18:10from the most basic thing.
- 18:13Like computer, what the hell is it?
- 18:15How does it work?
- 18:16Okay, you need to plug it in.
- 18:17You need to turn up the switch.
- 18:18You need to have a mouse, a keyboard.
- 18:20What do those things do?
- 18:21Why are they there?
- 18:22You know, like just the basics.
- 18:25and then slowly build up.
- 18:27So I think a lot of times that's what it is.
- 18:29It's like when we say,
- 18:30oh, computers don't like me,
- 18:31all that sort of stuff.
- 18:32It's just like,
- 18:33it's basically people saying,
- 18:34I don't want to spend the time learning the thing
- 18:36because I think it's too difficult.
- 18:38So I don't want to do the difficult thing.
- 18:40So I'll just stay here
- 18:41and just complain about it.
- 18:43And then make other people
- 18:44who maybe have spent the time learning it,
- 18:47make them bad about it as well.
- 18:49It's just, we do that not just with technology.
- 18:51We do that with other things as well.
- 18:52I'm sure you've seen it in yoga as well.
- 18:55not for me like i'm not flexible or those yoga people blah blah blah you know or you know change
- 19:02the niche to anything basically you know whatever the thing is there's always going to be a bunch of
- 19:09people that have something bad to say about it and it's basically they're either their insecurities
- 19:14or their resistance to actually facing what feels difficult and life is full of difficulty
- 19:20and it's about facing the difficulty
- 19:21and when we face it, we learn, we grow, we evolve
- 19:25and that's hard.
- 19:27So most of the time we don't want to do that
- 19:30but we do that in pretty much every facet of our lives
- 19:33or sometimes you're very good in certain fields
- 19:36but then other things we just go,
- 19:37I hate that and I don't want to do it.
- 19:39Fair enough, I understand.
- 19:40But if you spend the time learning it,
- 19:44we can learn.
- 19:46We all can learn if we wanted to.
- 19:49So that would be, okay, you ask for advice.
- 19:53So my advice would be, I don't normally like to give advice, but you ask, so I'll give it.
- 19:59My advice would be spend some time learning, you know, and taking the things that feel difficult, that feel confusing, that feel overwhelming, and actually face, you know, face it.
- 20:10Like, okay, this is overwhelming.
- 20:13Shit.
- 20:13And get underneath it.
- 20:14Like, what about this is overwhelming?
- 20:16There's all of these words that I don't understand.
- 20:20okay, what can I do?
- 20:22Let's start with the first word.
- 20:24That word, what does that word mean?
- 20:27I keep hearing this word.
- 20:28Okay, so let me just type it in one of these tools
- 20:31and then say, okay, what does that word,
- 20:33like describe that word?
- 20:35And then it goes, oh, that word means this, this, this.
- 20:37And you're like, okay, explain it in a simple way.
- 20:39And it goes, oh, this way.
- 20:41Oh, give me some images or give me a video that shows that,
- 20:44you know, and like it just gives you stuff.
- 20:45And next thing you know, you're like, okay,
- 20:46one of those words in that sentence now makes sense okay now let me start with the next word
- 20:52that's really like overwhelming me and then you you know learn about that so little by little it
- 20:58starts to become easier and when you have some kind of understanding of it you know it makes it
- 21:05easier there's a thing in tech which um i might actually make a video about this um on my channel
- 21:11at some point um from my days in tech you know like i could see and most tech people would you
- 21:20know could would tell you this but they will not tell you this it's just like i don't know i guess
- 21:24lawyers doctors accountants like you know every field has that but in tech you know there's always
- 21:29this thing where because people have this like oh my god this is too hard the tech industry would
- 21:37just capitalize on that so they would build things that is actually now more than ever it's easier
- 21:41than you know back then back then you actually had to write the code now you should get this
- 21:45thing to write the code for you but because it's difficult people think it's difficult or it's hard
- 21:50you know they would build things and charge a shitload of money for it and most of the time
- 21:55like it doesn't actually cost that much you know or they're like make people like make the other
- 21:59departments jump hoops i remember when i was in corporate because you know like we are the the
- 22:04key holders for you know the technology and this area this thing that is like this black box how
- 22:11does it work you know finance will do that in their area and you know the the lawyers the the
- 22:17law department do that you know so everyone kind of has that and it's just yeah like okay expert
- 22:23knowledge but we can learn we can learn the basics of it and have an understanding of it
- 22:29so i think when it comes to tech for example whether it's ai is like normal tech just
- 22:34you know you can have a more informed conversation so when you go and buy stuff and you spend money
- 22:39on like technology or software you know you just have um you're more informed you know so you're
- 22:46not just naively like just wasting money like burning money for no reason and there are people
- 22:51out there that will just charge you ridiculous amounts of money for building something like
- 22:56really stupid and simple you know because they know they can um so you're going to save yourself
- 23:02a lot of money, a lot of headaches, and when you understand how it works, you know, like,
- 23:08okay, that software is running my business or this part of my business.
- 23:13It's running my customer relationship management software.
- 23:16Okay, here's how it works.
- 23:17Here's what it can do.
- 23:18Here's what it can't do.
- 23:19Okay, here's how it talks to my website or just roughly have an idea.
- 23:24So that can really help.
- 23:26So then you're going to feel less overwhelmed.
- 23:28You're going to feel less anxious.
- 23:29you're going to feel more confident about it
- 23:31because you've spent some time learning
- 23:33like what does that word mean, what does that mean, what does that mean
- 23:35what's that concept, you know, and just learning
- 23:37little by little, that would be my
- 23:39recommendation, because it's not
- 23:41going to go away, I don't think
- 23:44but we can use
