- 0:00Speaker 1: Off the Bench with Jacob Hester and Matt Flynn.
- 0:03Speaker 2: Okay, here we go where.
- 0:04Speaker 1: The plays get broken down and science gets denied to
- 0:08Speaker 1: come off the bitch. Hour two of Off the Bench
- 0:10Speaker 1: Live from the Raising Kine Studio.
- 0:36Speaker 2: All right, welcome back in our number two.
- 0:40Speaker 3: Here on a Friday edition of Off the Bench. Taylor
- 0:43Speaker 3: Sharp here with the Elanda Villarrial Cassie's Bizzali as well
- 0:46Speaker 3: Jacob Hester Matt Flynn. They decided they just needed a
- 0:48Speaker 3: day off. Lundra didn't need a day off, but they
- 0:51Speaker 3: certainly will. Yeah, they certainly needed a day off. They're forty,
- 0:54Speaker 3: they're old. I mean, it is what it is, like,
- 0:56Speaker 3: I get it.
- 0:57Speaker 4: You can get you can get three three out.
- 0:58Speaker 3: Maybe maybe when i'm four wlady, I'll have to take
- 1:00Speaker 3: a random Friday off as well, but whatever. Yeah, I
- 1:04Speaker 3: was looking forward to the gang being back together because
- 1:06Speaker 3: Jake's out all next week, like she'll be on the show.
- 1:08Speaker 3: But he's out in San Francisco for the Super Bowl.
- 1:10Speaker 3: So no, you're just gonna have to.
- 1:13Speaker 4: Wait a little while. Because I was in Houston last week.
- 1:16Speaker 3: Friday for one day. Last week was the was the one.
- 1:20Speaker 3: So that's it.
- 1:20Speaker 4: Because Jake was out Monday and Tuesday.
- 1:23Speaker 5: You were out Wednesday, Thursday and then and then Friday
- 1:27Speaker 5: we came back a way to Mobile.
- 1:30Speaker 2: So Friday was it one day.
- 1:32Speaker 3: One day in a three week period is what it's
- 1:34Speaker 3: going to wind up be in after next week's over.
- 1:37Speaker 4: But just tripods everywhere.
- 1:38Speaker 2: Yeah, we'll make it happen. We're rolling with the punches.
- 1:42Speaker 2: We'll beating up.
- 1:42Speaker 3: Jake and Matt and Laundra they were out there at
- 1:44Speaker 3: the Senior Bowl and Mobile Alabama also shout out First
- 1:47Speaker 3: American Bank of Trucks for sending the crew down there.
- 1:49Speaker 3: But right now, I just kind of want to put
- 1:52Speaker 3: a button on that. Look at the LSU guys at
- 1:54Speaker 3: the Senior Bowl, like yes, we know Aaron Anderson, Barry
- 1:57Speaker 3: and Brown are going to be there, Like those are
- 1:59Speaker 3: guys that so okay. Flynn went on a lot of
- 2:03Speaker 3: different shows this weekend. I was able to catch him. Also,
- 2:05Speaker 3: Matt Flynn sounds way more professional on interviews than he
- 2:08Speaker 3: does as a host, Like I think Matt found his calling,
- 2:11Speaker 3: Like Matt, Matt is great on these radio interviews. I
- 2:14Speaker 3: was listening to him on the Hunt one yeah on Wednesday.
- 2:17Speaker 4: And I was like I was sitting right next to it.
- 2:18Speaker 2: I was like, is this the guy?
- 2:19Speaker 3: I know?
- 2:19Speaker 4: You know what's funny about that?
- 2:20Speaker 5: Two things I want to tell, like two real quickmobile stories,
- 2:24Speaker 5: but what's funny about the Okay, So throwback to when
- 2:27Speaker 5: we first got there, and Joel Thomas, the Saints running
- 2:32Speaker 5: backs coach and the head coach for the American team
- 2:35Speaker 5: I believe it was, comes up notoriously is standing in
- 2:39Speaker 5: front of the camera of the entire time that we're talking.
- 2:41Speaker 3: I know, if I ever had to pick out that
- 2:43Speaker 3: the back of that man's shoulder and a lineup, watch out, Joe.
- 2:46Speaker 5: I got Joel so also kept coming up to us
- 2:50Speaker 5: like while we were on air.
- 2:53Speaker 2: But the worst freaking Joel.
- 2:57Speaker 4: Yeah, so Joel wait, I forgot where I was going
- 3:01Speaker 4: with that one.
- 3:01Speaker 2: Joel's interview was actually really good though.
- 3:03Speaker 4: Oh so, oh this is what it was.
- 3:05Speaker 5: So Hunt called Matt while we were at practice and
- 3:10Speaker 5: he was like, let me come sit over here where
- 3:13Speaker 5: there's nobody, so nobody will like bother me or come
- 3:15Speaker 5: up to me or whatever.
- 3:16Speaker 4: He's like, So, Joel Thomas doesn't just come up while I'm.
- 3:18Speaker 6: On the phone.
- 3:20Speaker 4: That is so Joel Thomas coated.
- 3:22Speaker 2: He definitely would have I mean he did it yesterday.
- 3:25Speaker 5: Yeah, and then I just told you that during the break,
- 3:28Speaker 5: I just put two and two together that we ran
- 3:31Speaker 5: into Tommy DeVito's agent with the Fedora and the crazy
- 3:35Speaker 5: the Italian.
- 3:39Speaker 2: What a guy I missed that.
- 3:43Speaker 5: This So this station from Auburn, they're called like the
- 3:47Speaker 5: Tiger or something like that, kept wanting Matt to come
- 3:51Speaker 5: on the show. Okay, Matt did not want to go on,
- 3:54Speaker 5: but the guy was so persistent that okay, so we
- 3:59Speaker 5: after media day we snuck away because Matt did it.
- 4:03Speaker 5: He was like, yeah, I'll come on whatever, But then
- 4:05Speaker 5: he didn't really want to, so we while they weren't looking,
- 4:09Speaker 5: we left.
- 4:10Speaker 4: And then later we're waiting in line to get into practice.
- 4:14Speaker 4: Guys who's standing in line right in front.
- 4:15Speaker 2: Of us, the Auburn guy.
- 4:18Speaker 4: He turns around.
- 4:19Speaker 5: He's like, hey, bro, I know we weren't able to
- 4:21Speaker 5: get you today, but can we get you tomorrow.
- 4:22Speaker 4: He's like yeah.
- 4:23Speaker 5: He ended up going on right, But it was just
- 4:25Speaker 5: so funny because he was like trying so hard to
- 4:28Speaker 5: avoid him and he was right in front of us
- 4:29Speaker 5: in line.
- 4:30Speaker 2: I mean, it actually makes sense.
- 4:32Speaker 3: And that's arguably his most famous play came against those
- 4:35Speaker 3: Auburn Tigers. But uh, speaking of the l SHOOT Tigers,
- 4:39Speaker 3: Matt mentioned all week like, hey, Aaron Anderson didn't get
- 4:42Speaker 3: a ton of opportunity in team period. I don't care,
- 4:44Speaker 3: because Aaron Anderson's going to show up with any opportunity
- 4:47Speaker 3: he's given. He's athletic tape is there. Aaron Anderson's going
- 4:51Speaker 3: to be fine. Same with barry On Brown, just because
- 4:53Speaker 3: of his speed, his athletic ability, and his return ability.
- 4:56Speaker 3: The two guys I really wanted to watch was Garrett
- 4:58Speaker 3: Osmeyer and Chris Hill, and by all accounts, they both
- 5:01Speaker 3: performed really well. Like you guys posted the metrics on
- 5:05Speaker 3: the screen, Garrett Nosmeyer had the fastest throw, he had
- 5:08Speaker 3: the longest throw, Like Garrett Nosmeyer looks one hundred percent.
- 5:11Speaker 3: And I'm gonna be honest, I'm a little disappointed in
- 5:13Speaker 3: all of these LSU fans in the comments, like I
- 5:15Speaker 3: wasn't sure if I was gonna bring it up, but hell,
- 5:17Speaker 3: whether it's Friday, let's do it.
- 5:19Speaker 2: So many negative comments saying.
- 5:21Speaker 3: Well, you know, if Garrett Nosmeyer was hurt, he probably
- 5:23Speaker 3: should have set himself out. First off, if you're a
- 5:26Speaker 3: college athlete, you're the team captain, you wear the number
- 5:29Speaker 3: eighteen jersey, you think your team has a shot to
- 5:32Speaker 3: go win a national championship. You mean to tell me
- 5:34Speaker 3: you're pulling yourself out net Like, don't don't give me that.
- 5:36Speaker 3: That is easy to say after the fact that's not happening. Also,
- 5:39Speaker 3: the whole, oh, Garrett Osmer is not actually hurt? Crowd like, yeah,
- 5:43Speaker 3: you took a hit this week. One he looked really good,
- 5:46Speaker 3: and two like that never made sense to me. The
- 5:49Speaker 3: whole Garrett Nosmeyer isn't hurt. Crowd Like, Okay, if you
- 5:52Speaker 3: don't think Garrett Nosmeier was hurt, then the only other
- 5:55Speaker 3: possibility is that you truly believe somewhere in your brain
- 5:58Speaker 3: that Garrett Nosmeyer just physically forgot how to throw a football.
- 6:02Speaker 2: Which one do you.
- 6:03Speaker 3: Think seems more likely? Like I had an argument with
- 6:06Speaker 3: somebody about this during football season. They were like, oh, well,
- 6:09Speaker 3: you know Nuss was lazy in the offseason and his
- 6:11Speaker 3: conditioning's all or whatever. Whether that's true or not, I'm
- 6:17Speaker 3: not in shape. I don't take care of my body
- 6:19Speaker 3: at all. You guys know that I'm notorious for not
- 6:21Speaker 3: doing that. I could throw the ball for other than
- 6:24Speaker 3: fifteen yards and Garrett Nelsemeier is a way more athletic
- 6:27Speaker 3: player than me. And he was struggling to throw that
- 6:30Speaker 3: ball fifteen yards down the field against Ole Miss take
- 6:33Speaker 3: accuracy out of it, decision making.
- 6:35Speaker 2: I don't care.
- 6:35Speaker 3: He was struggling to throw the ball fifteen yards down
- 6:37Speaker 3: the field. Ah, you think's wrong with him? But come on,
- 6:40Speaker 3: you think he forgot how to throw a football? No,
- 6:43Speaker 3: I mean high schoolers make that throw and Garrett couldn't.
- 6:45Speaker 3: There was clearly something going on. You don't throw for
- 6:48Speaker 3: four thousand yards and almost thirty touchdowns the year before
- 6:51Speaker 3: and he can't push the ball fifteen yards down the
- 6:52Speaker 3: field the year after.
- 6:53Speaker 2: It doesn't happen.
- 6:54Speaker 3: I don't care what your offseason training was, I don't
- 6:57Speaker 3: care what you were doing on your spare time.
- 6:59Speaker 2: Stuff like that doesn't happen.
- 7:00Speaker 3: And he performed really well this week, and I figured
- 7:02Speaker 3: he would because Garrett nelsemyer' is a really good quarterback.
- 7:05Speaker 3: Just wanted to get that out of the way real quick.
- 7:07Speaker 3: The other player was Chris Hilton, and shut out to
- 7:10Speaker 3: him because he's taking his his fair share.
- 7:13Speaker 2: Of criticism here.
- 7:14Speaker 3: It ls you some warranted, some unwarranted, but like you know,
- 7:17Speaker 3: fans were frustrated because you know, he was injured, he
- 7:20Speaker 3: couldn't get on the field. When he did, you know,
- 7:22Speaker 3: he had some drop issues. When he fixed that, it
- 7:24Speaker 3: was just one thing or nothing. It never worked out
- 7:26Speaker 3: for him here. And I think Chris Hilton's a really
- 7:28Speaker 3: good player. But you want to talk about making the
- 7:31Speaker 3: most of your opportunity and the want to Chris Hilton
- 7:35Speaker 3: in the past two weeks the Hula Bowl, the American Bowl,
- 7:38Speaker 3: the East West Ryan Bowl when he was a late
- 7:39Speaker 3: ad in the Senior Bowl and he's gonna participate in
- 7:41Speaker 3: the game as well. You mean to tell me that
- 7:44Speaker 3: guy doesn't want to make it to the NFL and
- 7:46Speaker 3: he's going to because his speed is off the charts
- 7:49Speaker 3: and if he can put it together and have a
- 7:51Speaker 3: really solid game. He showed up to basically every All
- 7:53Speaker 3: Star game you can. That is a guy that I
- 7:57Speaker 3: won on my team because I see the one you know,
- 8:00Speaker 3: the abilities there. For whatever reason, it didn't click here.
- 8:03Speaker 3: If it can click for him and mobile at the
- 8:05Speaker 3: Senior Bowl. He performed well at the East West Shrine game.
- 8:09Speaker 3: Like if he can do those things for Sylton's a
- 8:12Speaker 3: draftable player. There's a chance that all four of the
- 8:16Speaker 3: guys that were in Mobile this week do get drafted
- 8:19Speaker 3: in the NFL. Now, moving away from LSU a little
- 8:24Speaker 3: bit and look at some of the other quarterbacks at
- 8:27Speaker 3: the Senior Bowl.
- 8:27Speaker 2: There was one guy.
- 8:29Speaker 3: Uh, when the Senior Bowl rosters were announced, I wanted
- 8:31Speaker 3: to keep an eye on because I've always been a
- 8:33Speaker 3: big fan of his and it's Luke Altmeyer. I have
- 8:36Speaker 3: been a massive Luke Altmeyer fan really since he was
- 8:39Speaker 3: at Old Miss under Laying Kiffe. Now, yes, he lost
- 8:42Speaker 3: the starting quarterback job at Old Miss to Jackson Dart.
- 8:45Speaker 3: Jackson Dart looks like he could potentially be a franchise
- 8:47Speaker 3: quarterback in the NFL if all things go right. Got
- 8:50Speaker 3: a much better coaching staff under him. Like people forget
- 8:54Speaker 3: as good as Jackson Dart was a year ago, he
- 8:57Speaker 3: didn't really play with my league. Neighbors, I mean neighbors
- 8:59Speaker 3: had that he's an inded injury early in the season.
- 9:02Speaker 3: He lost Scataboo halfway through. Like if he next season
- 9:05Speaker 3: he comes back with John Harball as his full complement
- 9:09Speaker 3: of weapons, we could see a year two jump, a
- 9:11Speaker 3: crazy year two jump for Jackson Dart. So no shame
- 9:14Speaker 3: in Luke Altmeyer not winning that quarterback job in three
- 9:18Speaker 3: years though at Illinois he was really good fifty seven touchdowns,
- 9:22Speaker 3: twenty one picks, like his final two years twenty twenty
- 9:26Speaker 3: four to twenty twenty five. In twenty four sixty percent completion,
- 9:29Speaker 3: twenty seven hundred yards, twenty two touchdowns, six picks. Last
- 9:33Speaker 3: year sixty seven percent completion over three thousand yards, twenty
- 9:37Speaker 3: two touchdowns, five picks. And he can run the ball
- 9:40Speaker 3: a little bit as well. He had thirteen rushing touchdowns
- 9:44Speaker 3: in his college career, almost eight hundred yards. And Flynn
- 9:49Speaker 3: was raving about this guy all week long. And I
- 9:50Speaker 3: understand why Luke Altmeyer could be the sleeper quarterback in
- 9:55Speaker 3: this your draft, because he's not a guy I don't
- 9:57Speaker 3: think that's going to go in the top three rounds.
- 9:59Speaker 3: And this is a mid round quarterback, I would think.
- 10:02Speaker 3: And he's a heck of an athlete, and he's he's
- 10:06Speaker 3: been in good offenses in college. He's had a lot
- 10:08Speaker 3: of success from multiple years now when he doesn't turn
- 10:09Speaker 3: the ball over, which is important. And the other quarterback
- 10:13Speaker 3: is Cole Payton. Cole Payton look came here as kind
- 10:18Speaker 3: of the small school quarterback. If you will even though
- 10:21Speaker 3: North Dakota State's an absolute wagon in the FCS division.
- 10:24Speaker 3: You know a lot of people were looking at his
- 10:26Speaker 3: numbers saying, okay, twenty seven hundred yards passing, sixteen touchdowns,
- 10:29Speaker 3: four picks, good numbers, seventy two percent completion percentage, Like
- 10:33Speaker 3: that's a North Dakota State quarterback.
- 10:34Speaker 2: He screams North Dakota State. His rushing numbers.
- 10:38Speaker 3: Guys seven hundred and seventy seven yards and thirteen touchdowns
- 10:42Speaker 3: a year ago in basically a four year college career
- 10:47Speaker 3: for Cole Payton. Nineteen hundred yards rushing and thirty one
- 10:51Speaker 3: touchdowns at the quarterback position.
- 10:54Speaker 2: That's a draftable player.
- 10:56Speaker 3: I mean, there was so much The talent at the
- 10:58Speaker 3: Senior Bowl this year, to me, was deeper than it
- 11:01Speaker 3: had been.
- 11:01Speaker 2: In recent years.
- 11:02Speaker 3: And you know, we had talked about, Okay, is the
- 11:04Speaker 3: Senior Bowl going to lose a little bit of its luster?
- 11:05Speaker 3: The East West Shrine game is you know, they're investing
- 11:08Speaker 3: a lot of money into that. They want to play
- 11:10Speaker 3: the game in Vegas. How is that going to look?
- 11:12Speaker 3: Is it going to hurt the Senior Bowl?
- 11:14Speaker 2: No?
- 11:15Speaker 3: Quite the opposite of me. Now, I think the talent
- 11:17Speaker 3: top to bottom here was insane. Like you go look
- 11:20Speaker 3: at some of the edge rushers, Ruben Baynes, David Bailey,
- 11:26Speaker 3: a keey mesador like big time college football players all
- 11:31Speaker 3: at the Senior Bowl. Like these are guys that those
- 11:34Speaker 3: three were potential first round picks and they show up.
- 11:36Speaker 3: Like in the past, you didn't really see guys that
- 11:39Speaker 3: were locks for the first or second round go to
- 11:41Speaker 3: the Senior Bowl. These were kind of under the radar,
- 11:42Speaker 3: guys wanted to boost their draft dog. You saw it
- 11:44Speaker 3: this year though, and the talent out there was incredible
- 11:48Speaker 3: to look at and again shout out Garrett Nolsemeyer, Barryon Brown,
- 11:51Speaker 3: Aaron Anderson, and Chris Hilton. All of them seemed to
- 11:55Speaker 3: show up at the Senior Bowl. And I don't think
- 11:56Speaker 3: anybody helped themselves more than the combination of Garrett Olsmyer
- 11:59Speaker 3: Chris Hill, because both of those guys a lot of
- 12:01Speaker 3: criticism on them throughout the season and they both showed
- 12:04Speaker 3: up and performed really well.
- 12:06Speaker 2: Okay, we're going to take a quick time out.
- 12:08Speaker 3: When we get back, we're talking LSU men's and women's basketball.
- 12:11Speaker 3: Spoiler alert, these two teams are trending in the wrong direction.
- 12:14Speaker 3: We're talking about it next here on Off the Bench.
- 12:17Speaker 7: Off the Bench, well, speaking of diving in, we'd like
- 12:21Speaker 7: to dive into a Russell pool because when you see
- 12:26Speaker 7: what they can do for you, you'll be blown away. I mean,
- 12:29Speaker 7: they're going to make the pool of your dreams. In fact,
- 12:33Speaker 7: that's their tagline because they know it is factual. Let's
- 12:36Speaker 7: build your dream pool. And what better time they get
- 12:41Speaker 7: that process started than right now because you are going
- 12:44Speaker 7: to enjoy it year long. This look, this is Louisiana.
- 12:48Speaker 7: It is always pool season here in Louisiana. But this
- 12:51Speaker 7: is truly a one stop shop. We're talking about construction, maintenance, retail,
- 12:54Speaker 7: all of that you handle with one company. That company
- 12:57Speaker 7: is Russell Pool Company, and you can trust them. We
- 13:01Speaker 7: trust them. Everybody they build pools for trust them. LSU
- 13:05Speaker 7: Tigers trust.
- 13:06Speaker 2: Them as well. Yeah, let them build your dream pool.
- 13:08Speaker 8: They can do everything from design to landscape, architect to
- 13:12Speaker 8: financing options. They can do it all. When you think
- 13:15Speaker 8: of quality pools, you think of Russell Pools. Russell Pools
- 13:17Speaker 8: dot Com.
- 13:22Speaker 1: Locked in on LSU Football twenty four to seven. You're
- 13:25Speaker 1: listening to Off the Bench.
- 13:41Speaker 3: Welcome back in a Friday edition of OTB Taylor Sharp
- 13:44Speaker 3: here with you filling in for Jacob Heastor and Matt Flynn.
- 13:48Speaker 3: I want to talk some LSU basketball here. We're gonna
- 13:50Speaker 3: go men's and women's. We'll start with the good shocker.
- 13:53Speaker 3: It's Kim Moulkey and the LSU women's basketball team. Look
- 13:57Speaker 3: at everybody criticize this team in the pre conference slates, saying, oh,
- 14:02Speaker 3: they underscheduled, their schedule's too easy, it's not gonna help
- 14:05Speaker 3: them at SEC play.
- 14:06Speaker 2: And then what happens.
- 14:08Speaker 3: They open SEC play and they lose back to back games,
- 14:11Speaker 3: and all the critics start coming out. What they won't
- 14:14Speaker 3: tell you is both of those teams were in the
- 14:16Speaker 3: top twelve. Kentucky was number twelve. You lost eighty to
- 14:19Speaker 3: seventy eight. That was a toss up game. And you
- 14:22Speaker 3: go to Vanderbilt, number eleven in the country, sixty five
- 14:24Speaker 3: sixty one. You had opportunities to win that game. Well,
- 14:27Speaker 3: since then, the LSU women's basketball team has won six
- 14:30Speaker 3: straight games, most of them in dominating fashion. Like you
- 14:33Speaker 3: beat Georgia by twenty one points in Athens, you go
- 14:38Speaker 3: to you come back home, but you play number two Texas.
- 14:41Speaker 3: You win that game seventy to sixty five to at
- 14:45Speaker 3: number thirteen Oklahoma in Norman. Yeah, you win that one
- 14:47Speaker 3: by eighteen ninety one seventy two. You dominated Texas A
- 14:51Speaker 3: and M team ninety eight fifty four, and then on
- 14:54Speaker 3: Monday Night, a Florida team that you were expected to
- 14:57Speaker 3: blow out, you do blowout eighty nine to six the
- 15:00Speaker 3: twenty nine point victory. Is anyone surprised that Kim Bulk
- 15:05Speaker 3: of all people has this team rolling in the right direction?
- 15:08Speaker 2: No, you shouldn't be right.
- 15:09Speaker 3: I mean, she's won multiple national championships, one right here
- 15:12Speaker 3: at this school just a few years ago. The additions
- 15:16Speaker 3: to this team, Malaysia full Wiley's probably been the best
- 15:19Speaker 3: addition to this team.
- 15:20Speaker 2: She's been awesome.
- 15:22Speaker 3: Kate Kovall is giving you a post play, Jada Reeshard's
- 15:25Speaker 3: taking that year two step, and then of course Flaje
- 15:29Speaker 3: Johnson and MICHAELA. Williams, like they're the anchors, right, they're
- 15:33Speaker 3: the heartbeat of that team. We know what this team is.
- 15:35Speaker 3: This is a top ten basketball team. They're going to
- 15:38Speaker 3: be a really good seed in the NCAA tournament, and
- 15:40Speaker 3: I think they're gonna go far in the tournament because
- 15:42Speaker 3: they got talent and you know, for sure they have
- 15:44Speaker 3: the right coach at the helm.
- 15:46Speaker 2: That's the good news. The bad news is the LSU
- 15:52Speaker 2: men's basketball team.
- 15:54Speaker 3: Guys, they're one and seven now in conference play and
- 15:57Speaker 3: they just suffered an eighty to sixty six blowout loss
- 16:01Speaker 3: to the Mississippi State Bulldogs. Now, I am not here
- 16:08Speaker 3: to ask for anyone's job, and nobody on this station
- 16:10Speaker 3: wants to do that. But I will sit here and
- 16:12Speaker 3: say is the Mad McMahon experiment has not worked and
- 16:17Speaker 3: I don't see a clear path for turning it around.
- 16:20Speaker 3: This is year four now, and like, look, this is
- 16:22Speaker 3: coming from someone that had a lot of high expectations
- 16:26Speaker 3: from Mad McMahon, Like hand up in the air. I'll
- 16:29Speaker 3: admit it. When Will Wade was fired, everybody was looking
- 16:32Speaker 3: for coaches. First name out of my mouth was Mad McMahon.
- 16:37Speaker 3: And you know, at the time, I thought it was
- 16:38Speaker 3: a good decision. Like I understand fans are frustrated and
- 16:42Speaker 3: everyone's going to say, man, John Morant made Mad McMahon
- 16:45Speaker 3: at Murray State.
- 16:46Speaker 2: Not really.
- 16:47Speaker 3: I mean John Morant's last season at Murray State was
- 16:50Speaker 3: the twenty eighteen twenty nineteen season, and they were great,
- 16:53Speaker 3: twenty eight and five regular season champ, Conference Tournament champ,
- 16:57Speaker 3: made it to the Big Dance, but the following year
- 17:01Speaker 3: twenty three and nine regular season champs in Ohio Valley,
- 17:05Speaker 3: twenty and twenty twenty one. That season they took a
- 17:07Speaker 3: bit of a dip. It was thirteen and thirteen. But
- 17:10Speaker 3: McMahon's last season at Murray State the twenty one twenty
- 17:15Speaker 3: two season, thirty one in three regular season champs, Conference Champs,
- 17:22Speaker 3: Tournament champs. They make it to the NCAA Tournament into
- 17:25Speaker 3: the sweet sixteen. Like Matt, McMahon had a lot of
- 17:29Speaker 3: success at Murray State, so my thought was, hey, you
- 17:34Speaker 3: give this guy an opportunity at a bigger stage, with
- 17:37Speaker 3: more talented players, a bigger resources to work with, he could.
- 17:40Speaker 2: Make some things happen.
- 17:42Speaker 3: And the reality is it just hasn't worked at least
- 17:44Speaker 3: not a SEC play. Like you look at Matt McMahon's
- 17:46Speaker 3: at a conference record since he's been here at LSU,
- 17:48Speaker 3: it's actually pretty good, but once you get into the SEC,
- 17:53Speaker 3: it's just not there.
- 17:56Speaker 2: I mean right now, Matt McMahon.
- 17:59Speaker 3: Is fifteen and forty seven in SEC play in four
- 18:03Speaker 3: years here in bad route. To put that in perspective,
- 18:06Speaker 3: I don't have the exact numbers off the top of
- 18:08Speaker 3: my head, but it is somewhere within forty two and
- 18:10Speaker 3: forty nine was Johnny Jones's SEC record here at lshit
- 18:13Speaker 3: forty two and forty nine. McMahon is fifteen and forty seven.
- 18:18Speaker 3: That's just not good enough.
- 18:20Speaker 2: I get it.
- 18:21Speaker 3: You lost Jalen Reid right before the season. That sucks,
- 18:24Speaker 3: But you were sitting there twelve and one going into
- 18:27Speaker 3: the SEC you were feeling good. Another big blow, DJ Thomas,
- 18:31Speaker 3: you lose him literally two days before you start SEC play.
- 18:34Speaker 3: I get it, it sucks, But what did everyone talk
- 18:39Speaker 3: about coming into year four? You were fired up about
- 18:42Speaker 3: the transfer portal class. You were hoping LSU would invest
- 18:45Speaker 3: the money and the resources into this roster to get
- 18:47Speaker 3: where you wanted to.
- 18:48Speaker 2: And not only accounts they did that. I mean you
- 18:50Speaker 2: brought it.
- 18:51Speaker 3: Markel Sutton, Max McKinnon, Mikenoko from Mississippi State, Pablo Tomba,
- 18:57Speaker 3: DJ Thomas who I just mentioned and just hasn't worked.
- 19:03Speaker 3: And I see so many people saying it's over, it's done.
- 19:07Speaker 3: LSU is going to make a change, are they, though?
- 19:12Speaker 3: I mean, I understand that it seems like this football
- 19:15Speaker 3: program at LSU has endless amounts of money, does the
- 19:18Speaker 3: basketball program, because you got to remember here at LSU
- 19:21Speaker 3: basketball start, and really men's basketball is fourth. People care
- 19:25Speaker 3: more about the women's team, but it's always going to
- 19:27Speaker 3: be LSU football, LSU baseball. Everything else trickles down from
- 19:31Speaker 3: the most schools. It's football and basketball. So don't compare
- 19:38Speaker 3: your basketball program to other people's basketball programs. Compare LSU's
- 19:41Speaker 3: basketball programs to other SEC schools baseball programs. That's what
- 19:45Speaker 3: you do. So is there a want to? I mean,
- 19:49Speaker 3: I'm sure, like Virgil alwa Isbier, he said it. We
- 19:52Speaker 3: brought it up on this ship. It was a few
- 19:54Speaker 3: weeks back. He did an interview with The Advocate, and
- 19:56Speaker 3: Verge said, if LSU can't make it to the NCAAA,
- 19:59Speaker 3: turn them, or at least as close as possible, everything
- 20:02Speaker 3: will have to be reevaluate.
- 20:04Speaker 2: Those are for Jilsbury's words.
- 20:08Speaker 3: To me, it seems very clear at one and seven
- 20:10Speaker 3: you get blown out by a bad Mississippi State team
- 20:12Speaker 3: that was a must win game, but it's over. You're
- 20:15Speaker 3: not going to make the NCAA tournament. Barring some miraculous
- 20:19Speaker 3: unforeseen run in the regular season. You somehow go win
- 20:22Speaker 3: the SEC tournament and you get it. I just don't
- 20:25Speaker 3: see that happening because this team performs pretty well against
- 20:31Speaker 3: these and basketball teams. It's the bad teams that they're
- 20:34Speaker 3: bad against. They always played down to their competition level
- 20:37Speaker 3: for whatever reason. But Brian Kelly, it was his buy
- 20:42Speaker 3: out fifty four million, fifty two million. You gave Lane
- 20:46Speaker 3: Kiffin a big contract. You have Lane Kivin's staff big contracts.
- 20:50Speaker 3: You just spent the most money ever on a transfer
- 20:52Speaker 3: Portland brought in forty two transfer portal players to this school.
- 20:57Speaker 3: And you have high expectations for the football program. Look
- 21:00Speaker 3: up what Jay Johnson's doing. He dominates the transfer a portal.
- 21:04Speaker 3: You're going to give him the funds he needs because
- 21:07Speaker 3: baseball wins. Is there that appetite in the basketball program?
- 21:11Speaker 3: I don't know, But what I can tell you is
- 21:16Speaker 3: I just I don't know how it gets better because,
- 21:19Speaker 3: like I can give McMahon a pass on really the
- 21:21Speaker 3: first two seasons, like remember when when Wade was fired,
- 21:24Speaker 3: you didn't know if there were sanctions coming down or not.
- 21:26Speaker 3: There wasn't that was never going to happen. But let's
- 21:30Speaker 3: just say at the time you didn't know if there
- 21:32Speaker 3: was any sanctions coming down. When Matt McMahon got hired,
- 21:34Speaker 3: there were literally zero players on LSU's roster. He was
- 21:37Speaker 3: able to recruit one or two of them back from
- 21:39Speaker 3: that final will wage team. Okay, that's a wash. It
- 21:43Speaker 3: was fourteen and nineteen. That's about what you expect. Did
- 21:48Speaker 3: in year number two. He brings in some transfers, he
- 21:52Speaker 3: goes seventeen and sixteen, and you're like, Okay, not where
- 21:55Speaker 3: you want to be, but it's a step in the
- 21:57Speaker 3: right direction. It's an improvement. You finished the season the
- 22:00Speaker 3: winning record. You're moving in the right direction. And I
- 22:02Speaker 3: actually thought mac McMahon did a really good job here
- 22:05Speaker 3: in that second year. I thought he kind of maximized
- 22:07Speaker 3: what that team was able to do. I don't feel
- 22:10Speaker 3: the same way about last season though, fourteen and eighteen.
- 22:12Speaker 3: I mean that that was underperforming. And then this year
- 22:16Speaker 3: you sit at thirteen and eight after such a hot
- 22:19Speaker 3: start at twelve and one, and I wish you had
- 22:20Speaker 3: a decent at a conference schedule. I mean, they weren't
- 22:23Speaker 3: playing cupcakes every single week. I mean there were some
- 22:25Speaker 3: thrown in there, but they played some good competition. You
- 22:28Speaker 3: go twelve and one. It's the way you're losing basketball
- 22:33Speaker 3: games though. Like the old adage of good teams find
- 22:37Speaker 3: different ways to win games, bad teams find different ways
- 22:39Speaker 3: to lose games. For example, you haven't started well really
- 22:44Speaker 3: all year in SEC play, like that blowout agains Mississippi State.
- 22:48Speaker 3: I was just talking about eighty to sixty six. You
- 22:51Speaker 3: scored twenty one points in the first half. You're not
- 22:54Speaker 3: beating anyone scoring twenty one points in the first half.
- 22:57Speaker 3: Started slow against Vandy, had to try to storm back,
- 23:00Speaker 3: couldn't do it.
- 23:01Speaker 2: Started really slow against A and M.
- 23:03Speaker 3: You did storm back, that wound up being a three
- 23:05Speaker 3: point game, but it was too late at that point,
- 23:07Speaker 3: and then wins at seventy five seventy two. Similar against
- 23:10Speaker 3: South Carolina, the only game you started fast. You were
- 23:13Speaker 3: blowing the doors off of Kentucky. You was eighteen to
- 23:16Speaker 3: two at one point early in the first half, and
- 23:18Speaker 3: it looked like you were locked in, ready to play.
- 23:20Speaker 3: It was the most excited I've seen the PMAC for
- 23:23Speaker 3: an LSU men's basketball game in probably two.
- 23:24Speaker 2: To three years.
- 23:27Speaker 3: And you absolutely collapsed at the end of the game.
- 23:30Speaker 3: You couldn't make your two free throws. You allow a
- 23:33Speaker 3: long pass that nobody defended. You allow Kentucky to get
- 23:36Speaker 3: up a pretty manageable shot and they make it and
- 23:38Speaker 3: beat you at the buzzer in heartbreak fashion in seventy
- 23:41Speaker 3: five seventy four. Now you do bounce back from that game.
- 23:45Speaker 3: You gotta win in Baton Rouge against Missouri. There's a
- 23:47Speaker 3: banged up Missouri team who's not very good in general.
- 23:50Speaker 3: You win that game seventy eight to seventy, so they, Okay,
- 23:53Speaker 3: you probably should have won the Kentucky game. You let
- 23:55Speaker 3: it slip. You get a victory over Missouri. Look, maybe
- 23:58Speaker 3: maybe this is starting to trend in the right direction.
- 24:01Speaker 3: You get taken down by a good Florida team, Like,
- 24:03Speaker 3: I'm not putting all that on LSU. That's a good
- 24:06Speaker 3: Florida team. It's in Gainesville. That's a tough place to play.
- 24:09Speaker 3: You lose that game pretty handily, and you perform so
- 24:13Speaker 3: well against Arkansas on the Route eighty five eighty one.
- 24:19Speaker 3: You had every opportunity to win that game. Now you
- 24:21Speaker 3: fall short. But Bud Walton, my opinion, best Seas basketball
- 24:27Speaker 3: environment out there, really really tough place to play, and
- 24:30Speaker 3: you almost pull out a win and you come and
- 24:34Speaker 3: lay in an absolute egg in the PMAC on Wednesday night,
- 24:38Speaker 3: eighty to sixty six. So not only are you starting slow,
- 24:43Speaker 3: you were giving up way too many points. I mean
- 24:46Speaker 3: eighty four, seventy five, seventy eighty eighty five, seventy five. Like,
- 24:54Speaker 3: I mean, you're giving up way too many points.
- 24:56Speaker 2: Now.
- 24:57Speaker 3: Again, credit this team for battling against Arkansas in eighty
- 25:01Speaker 3: five eighty one. But there's just so many things wrong
- 25:05Speaker 3: with this basketball program right now. And I'm not telling
- 25:08Speaker 3: you a change is going to be made. What I
- 25:10Speaker 3: am telling you is I don't see it get any better.
- 25:13Speaker 3: So we'll see what happens there. We will obviously follow
- 25:15Speaker 3: both of these teams as the season moves along. All right,
- 25:18Speaker 3: we're going to take a quick time out when we
- 25:19Speaker 3: get back. Ross Jackson locked on Saints and louisianasports dot
- 25:23Speaker 3: Net joins us.
- 25:24Speaker 2: Next. You're on off the bench after bench.
- 25:28Speaker 7: Game day hangouts is just winding down after a long day.
- 25:30Speaker 7: There's one beer that fits every moment, and that is
- 25:33Speaker 7: do Seke's. Always chris refreshing and perfectly balanced. O Seq's
- 25:37Speaker 7: is easy to drink without sacrificing flavor. It's not heavy,
- 25:40Speaker 7: it's not watered down. It's just a great beer you
- 25:42Speaker 7: can enjoy all game long. So whether you're watching with friends,
- 25:46Speaker 7: grilling outside, or cracking one open after work, Do Sequi's
- 25:49Speaker 7: always delivers. So next time you're at the store, grab
- 25:53Speaker 7: do sekes because the most interesting days deserve the most
- 25:56Speaker 7: interesting beer.
- 25:57Speaker 8: That's right, go for a dose postibly. We are about
- 26:01Speaker 8: to be have one of the most delicious beers ever,
- 26:04Speaker 8: which is a nice hotel bar hotel beer. Excuse me
- 26:09Speaker 8: and what we do. We're gonna make sure that we
- 26:10Speaker 8: go for dose. We've got cold, delicious Mexican logger. They
- 26:13Speaker 8: got the they got the amber especially. I think got
- 26:16Speaker 8: the logger especially. I'll make sure if you are getting
- 26:18Speaker 8: ready for the weekend, get ready. Stock up on your groceries,
- 26:20Speaker 8: certainly getting ready for this cold buzzard, but also stock
- 26:22Speaker 8: up on your dose sects.
- 26:24Speaker 9: Go for dose.
- 26:24Speaker 2: Drink responsible.
- 26:46Speaker 1: Tigers, turn talkers. This is Off the Bench.
- 27:00Speaker 2: Welcome back.
- 27:00Speaker 3: In a Friday edition of Off the Bench, Tayler Sharper
- 27:03Speaker 3: with you filling in for Jacob Hestor and Matt Flann.
- 27:06Speaker 3: We want to go out to the phone lines right now,
- 27:08Speaker 3: bringing our guy Ross Jackson locked on Saints also rights
- 27:11Speaker 3: for us right here at Louisiana Sports dot Net.
- 27:14Speaker 2: Ross, how are you this morning?
- 27:15Speaker 9: Heybody, I'm doing great.
- 27:16Speaker 2: Glad to be here with you, think me absolutely. Thanks
- 27:19Speaker 2: for hopping on Ross.
- 27:20Speaker 3: You were out there and mobile this week at the
- 27:23Speaker 3: Senior Bowl so well.
- 27:25Speaker 8: Books.
- 27:25Speaker 2: They kind of.
- 27:26Speaker 3: Brawled for this first question, like maybe the biggest standout
- 27:30Speaker 3: for you overall at that Senior Bowl. Like, I know
- 27:32Speaker 3: a lot of people talk Tyron Montgomery the wide receiver
- 27:35Speaker 3: from John Carroll, which crazy story I know most people
- 27:37Speaker 3: have heard by now, But I mean, is there a
- 27:39Speaker 3: guy out there that like really turned heads to you?
- 27:42Speaker 9: Yeah, I mean Tyre Montgomery is definitely one of those guys.
- 27:44Speaker 9: I would say, so is the wide receiver out of
- 27:46Speaker 9: noted name Malecki Fields. I think there's a few guys
- 27:49Speaker 9: that have caught here and really really helped themselves in
- 27:51Speaker 9: terms of draft status and things like that. He might
- 27:53Speaker 9: be one of those guys that might be one of
- 27:55Speaker 9: the bigger movers right alongside Tyron Montgomery. But I think
- 27:59Speaker 9: it's there's other guys out there too. Texas Tech edge
- 28:03Speaker 9: rusher Romelo Height was kind of looking to show and
- 28:05Speaker 9: prove how versatile his game is. I think he did
- 28:07Speaker 9: a very good job of that throughout the practice week.
- 28:10Speaker 9: He's a you know, smaller speed pass rusher and hasn't
- 28:14Speaker 9: been asked to do a lot of the kind of
- 28:15Speaker 9: versatile outside linebacker odd front's responsibilities. And then he got
- 28:21Speaker 9: an opportunity to show that he could do that here
- 28:23Speaker 9: in Mobile, which is kind of what this event is
- 28:25Speaker 9: all about, right going out there and being able to
- 28:27Speaker 9: show maybe you could do something that isn't off and
- 28:30Speaker 9: asked of you. And then the other player that I'll
- 28:32Speaker 9: highlight too would be TCU safety Buddy Clark. Really versatile guy,
- 28:36Speaker 9: has played deep, has played in the slot, and has
- 28:38Speaker 9: played in the box. Came out here, what's a bit
- 28:40Speaker 9: of a playmaker, has a ball, howkey mentality to get
- 28:42Speaker 9: four interceptions last year. This is the guy that you
- 28:45Speaker 9: know could have been somebody to go in the sixth
- 28:48Speaker 9: seventh round that might have played his way or at
- 28:50Speaker 9: least put himself in position or on a trajectory to
- 28:53Speaker 9: go in the third and fourth or the fourth and
- 28:55Speaker 9: fifth rounds rather depending upon how his athletic testing goes
- 28:58Speaker 9: over the offseason.
- 29:00Speaker 3: Winners.
- 29:00Speaker 9: You asked me to pick one, I'm named like six
- 29:02Speaker 9: just now, Sorry about that. But it's just the pinnacle
- 29:05Speaker 9: of what this this event is all about.
- 29:07Speaker 2: You know, Ross.
- 29:08Speaker 3: When I see a wide receiver and it says John
- 29:12Speaker 3: Carroll University next to it, my question is always what
- 29:15Speaker 3: round are the Saints going to draft them in?
- 29:17Speaker 9: Yeah, they love their small school guys, right, I mean,
- 29:20Speaker 9: especially the wide receivers. We've seen guys out of what Toledo.
- 29:24Speaker 9: We've seen guys of course, out of you know what
- 29:26Speaker 9: we used to be. Oh gosh, what was Marcus Colson's school?
- 29:30Speaker 9: Hall Hops the Hopstra thank you, They didn't even have
- 29:33Speaker 9: a football team anymore. Uh, And so you know, they
- 29:36Speaker 9: they love their small school guys, and he could definitely
- 29:38Speaker 9: be one of a man. He's a really talented player.
- 29:41Speaker 9: He's got obviously Louisiana tizz and everything in terms of
- 29:44Speaker 9: his history, and so he's a really impressive dude. And
- 29:48Speaker 9: you know, I think a guy that would make a
- 29:50Speaker 9: lot of sense for New World in terms of the
- 29:52Speaker 9: type of wide out that they could add that room
- 29:53Speaker 9: to help compliment guys like Crislave and Devon Bayle.
- 29:56Speaker 3: As far as uh switching to the other side of
- 29:58Speaker 3: the ball as far as the edge rush go, I mean,
- 30:00Speaker 3: most people believe that edge might be the deepest.
- 30:03Speaker 2: Position in the draft.
- 30:04Speaker 3: I mean there's a number of big time players, and
- 30:06Speaker 3: there were a number of big time players out there
- 30:09Speaker 3: at the Senior Bowl as well. I mean, what guys
- 30:13Speaker 3: have you stood out to you'd edge, And then also like,
- 30:15Speaker 3: which one of them do you think, like actually fit
- 30:17Speaker 3: what the Saints want to do.
- 30:19Speaker 9: Yeah, I'll answer I'll go with somebody first that answers
- 30:22Speaker 9: both those questions. And I would highlight Western Michigan Edge
- 30:25Speaker 9: Russier and Don Tucker fourteen and a half sacks last
- 30:28Speaker 9: year that tied for the leade the nation lead along
- 30:30Speaker 9: with Ruben Bain Junior, who of course is going to
- 30:33Speaker 9: be a top ten selection. He also had twenty plus
- 30:35Speaker 9: tackles for a loss as well, so very active in
- 30:37Speaker 9: the run game while also being very active as a
- 30:40Speaker 9: pass rusher. He's a good fit for New Orleans in
- 30:43Speaker 9: terms of the speed rusher mold if they want to
- 30:46Speaker 9: kind of meet in the middle on that. Derek Moore
- 30:49Speaker 9: out of Michigan a little bit more of a little
- 30:52Speaker 9: bit more of a bigger body, but you know still,
- 30:55Speaker 9: you know, six' three kind of in between what the
- 30:58Speaker 9: things used to look for in terms of the six foot,
- 31:00Speaker 9: six six foot, seven you, know two hundred and seventy
- 31:03Speaker 9: pound edge, rusher he's closer to like the six three
- 31:06Speaker 9: to sixty edge. Rusher and so he's a unique kind
- 31:09Speaker 9: of in between of what it is The saints looks
- 31:11Speaker 9: for before and what it is they look for in
- 31:13Speaker 9: their prototypes, now which is really only expanded the talent
- 31:16Speaker 9: pool as opposed to shrunk the talent. Pool and SO
- 31:18Speaker 9: i think those two guys are guys that fit For New.
- 31:21Speaker 9: Orleans T. J parker out Of clemson's another one that
- 31:23Speaker 9: fits For New. Orleans he's done himself to favorites here
- 31:26Speaker 9: and in the Aforementioned romelo. HEIGHT i think they put
- 31:29Speaker 9: on some really really good displays here when it came
- 31:33Speaker 9: to the edge rusher, group as well as the interior
- 31:35Speaker 9: defensive line, group which The saints could continue to look
- 31:38Speaker 9: to hone in and add talent throughout this offseason as.
- 31:41Speaker 3: Well Russell jackson our guest right, Now, Ross you, know
- 31:44Speaker 3: The saints have the eighth pick right now in that first,
- 31:46Speaker 3: round and you know everybody always looks towards that first
- 31:49Speaker 3: round pick first and foremost for the obvious. Reasons and
- 31:52Speaker 3: you know the Name Jeremiah love has been brought up
- 31:54Speaker 3: here and, there and people seem to have vastly different
- 31:57Speaker 3: opinions of him depending on who you. Ask so, like
- 32:00Speaker 3: let's say When Roger goodell walks up there In, april
- 32:03Speaker 3: hands in the ticket and it Is Jeremiah, love what
- 32:05Speaker 3: is your? Reaction, YEAH i.
- 32:07Speaker 9: Think it's a smart pick For New. Orleans you have
- 32:09Speaker 9: an opportunity to go and get somebody that's an absolute
- 32:12Speaker 9: playmaker and that's a game changer for, you and that
- 32:15Speaker 9: ends up helping to solidify both your run game as
- 32:18Speaker 9: well as your passing. GAME a lot of the arguments
- 32:20Speaker 9: against Drafting Jeremiah love typically fall apart with a little
- 32:25Speaker 9: bit of. Scrutiny you, know the idea that all they
- 32:27Speaker 9: shouldn't draft are running back when they haven't picked the offensive. Line,
- 32:30Speaker 9: well good thing is a lot more that happens in
- 32:32Speaker 9: the offseason than one single draft, pick, RIGHT i, mean
- 32:34Speaker 9: you have an entire lane of free agency that takes
- 32:37Speaker 9: place before the draft, begins and The saints are likely
- 32:41Speaker 9: to have eight selections in this, draft assuming that their
- 32:44Speaker 9: fourth round compensatory pick. Conveys after the departure At Paul
- 32:47Speaker 9: sindievo last, year which we expect that it, will and
- 32:49Speaker 9: so you can Select Jeremiah love and also help out
- 32:53Speaker 9: your offensive line throughout the, draft and then even before
- 32:55Speaker 9: you get to the. Draft with free running backs are
- 32:57Speaker 9: becoming more important in THE. Nfl we saw the most
- 32:59Speaker 9: two sets that we've seen in multiple years this past,
- 33:02Speaker 9: year and we're seeing a lot of offenses now shift
- 33:05Speaker 9: to being run, heavy a lot of defenses shift to
- 33:09Speaker 9: challenging you to run the football by playing these two high.
- 33:11Speaker 9: Shelves you have to have a good run game in TODAY'S.
- 33:14Speaker 9: Nfl and don't forget to say still have a young
- 33:16Speaker 9: quarterback and so taking some pressure off of him and
- 33:18Speaker 9: a year after they weren't able to get a five
- 33:20Speaker 9: hundred yard rusher on the, field then he led the
- 33:22Speaker 9: team in rushing. TOUCHDOWNS i think that investing in a
- 33:25Speaker 9: high level running back makes a lot of. Sense and
- 33:27Speaker 9: for a first round running, back he still got a
- 33:29Speaker 9: lot of tread left on the, tires that's never had
- 33:31Speaker 9: more than two hundred carries in a, season is only
- 33:33Speaker 9: twenty one years, old twenty two years. OLD i, mean
- 33:35Speaker 9: there's a, real real reason why he could be considered
- 33:39Speaker 9: in the top ten and should be considered in the top,
- 33:41Speaker 9: ten AND i think that'd be a home run pick for.
- 33:42Speaker 6: New orll and.
- 33:43Speaker 3: Today Rossh you put out the other day a really
- 33:46Speaker 3: detailed article about the running backs at The Senior, bowl
- 33:49Speaker 3: WHICH i actually thoroughly enjoyed. Reading what if they don't
- 33:53Speaker 3: Go Jeremiah love first? Round you, know and they wait
- 33:56Speaker 3: a few rounds, later but they do decide they want
- 33:58Speaker 3: a running. BACK i, mean are there any to late
- 34:00Speaker 3: round running back targets you think provide a lot of?
- 34:02Speaker 2: Value, yeah thank you for.
- 34:04Speaker 9: THAT i think the Two Penn state running backs are
- 34:07Speaker 9: right there for. Sure Nicholas, singleton who's probably in contention
- 34:10Speaker 9: to be the number two running back probably along it's
- 34:13Speaker 9: probably competing with guys Like Joonah coleman out Of, washington
- 34:17Speaker 9: and then the Other Notre dame running, Back Generium. Price
- 34:20Speaker 9: is actually two really Good Notre dame running backs in the.
- 34:23Speaker 9: Draft last none of them Are Jeremiah. Love don't get me,
- 34:25Speaker 9: wrong but a guy Like Nicholas singleton can do a
- 34:27Speaker 9: little bit of. Everything he runs, well he's very, patient
- 34:30Speaker 9: he has some, physicality but he's also exploded so if
- 34:33Speaker 9: he can, catch he's a fantastic pass protector as. WELL
- 34:36Speaker 9: i think all of those boxes would be very appealing
- 34:40Speaker 9: checks For New. Orleans his teammate K Tron allen is
- 34:43Speaker 9: a bit more of a physical Downhill runner could be
- 34:46Speaker 9: a great fit For New orleans as. Well and Then
- 34:49Speaker 9: i'd point Out Mike washington out Of, arkansas WHO i
- 34:52Speaker 9: thought has had or did have a really Strong Senior
- 34:56Speaker 9: bowl week here here In. Mobile and then you Know Indiana.
- 35:00Speaker 9: Hoosiers anytime you get an opportunity to get one of
- 35:02Speaker 9: those guys From Kirk syonnetti's culture and your, TEAM i
- 35:04Speaker 9: think it's worth your time as a general manager At Kaylon, black, big,
- 35:08Speaker 9: physical just mean and Violent, RUNNER i think you'd be
- 35:11Speaker 9: a lot of fun in The black And gold as.
- 35:12Speaker 8: Well.
- 35:13Speaker 3: Well it's just a few more for you. HERE i
- 35:15Speaker 3: want to transition a little bit to the offensive. Line
- 35:18Speaker 3: there are a number of guys out there at The Senior. Bowl,
- 35:22Speaker 3: obviously you Know saints fans are, like, oh you got
- 35:24Speaker 3: to show up THE o. LINE i got to show
- 35:25Speaker 3: up THE o. Line how high up on The saints
- 35:27Speaker 3: priority list do you think that is in this coming?
- 35:29Speaker 9: DRAFT i imagine it's it's it's pretty high on their
- 35:34Speaker 9: priority list this, offseason and that that will begin with
- 35:39Speaker 9: retaining players that they want to, retain and that we'll
- 35:42Speaker 9: begin with potentially signing free. AGENTS i think like The
- 35:45Speaker 9: saints are going to have some room to spend in
- 35:48Speaker 9: a way that they haven't in some. Time BUT i
- 35:50Speaker 9: don't expect them to go. CRAZY i don't expect them
- 35:52Speaker 9: to start resetting, markets oppositions and things like. That but
- 35:55Speaker 9: If i'm you, know If I'm Mickey, loomis If i'm
- 35:58Speaker 9: The saints And i'm going into free agency with a
- 36:00Speaker 9: little bit of money to, SPEND i THINK i want
- 36:02Speaker 9: to spend that money on the offensive line and go
- 36:04Speaker 9: out there and try to find a starter in the,
- 36:07Speaker 9: interior a potential second player to sign on the interior
- 36:10Speaker 9: that can bring you some competition and also some strong.
- 36:13Speaker 9: DEPTHS i want to, bring you, Know Luke fortner. Back
- 36:16Speaker 9: If i'm The, saints you, know like, Those that's where
- 36:18Speaker 9: the offensive line BUILDING i think. Starts this is a
- 36:21Speaker 9: team that has really leaned on the draft to build
- 36:24Speaker 9: its offensive, line and they've had some hits and misses.
- 36:27Speaker 9: THERE i think going to THE nfl and FINDING nfl
- 36:30Speaker 9: players and asking them to do AN nfl job on
- 36:32Speaker 9: YOUR nfl team is the better way to go about.
- 36:34Speaker 9: It SO i would look at free agency being that
- 36:36Speaker 9: and then maybe falling back, on you, know some draft
- 36:39Speaker 9: picks to help shore up depth and give you some.
- 36:42Speaker 9: DEVELOPMENT i think guys Like Keilan rutledge out Of Georgia
- 36:46Speaker 9: tech would be a great. START i also think a
- 36:48Speaker 9: developmental guy Like Jeremiah, wright who was really impressive here
- 36:51Speaker 9: out of aubund six foot, five three hundred and forty
- 36:53Speaker 9: pounds physical pig, dude kind of fits the mold of
- 36:56Speaker 9: the interior offensive lineman That Kellen moore had when he
- 36:58Speaker 9: was In. PHILADELPHIA i think those guys make sense after
- 37:01Speaker 9: you to help the supplement the, position after you've taken
- 37:04Speaker 9: care of the need and pre.
- 37:05Speaker 3: Agency if you are The SAINTS gm and It's SAINTS
- 37:09Speaker 3: Gm Ross, jackson you got to turn in the card
- 37:12Speaker 3: in round?
- 37:12Speaker 2: One where are you?
- 37:13Speaker 9: Going, YEAH i mean it's hard to pass up On Jeremiah.
- 37:17Speaker 9: Love If Jeremiah loves not on the. Board i'm looking
- 37:20Speaker 9: over to the defensive, side and you, know if It's
- 37:24Speaker 9: Caleb downs out Of Ohio state or one of those
- 37:27Speaker 9: edge rushers like A David dailey out Of Texas, tech
- 37:29Speaker 9: that's there are probably lean. THERE i think wide. Receiver
- 37:32Speaker 9: you can wait in this, draft and SO i wouldn't
- 37:34Speaker 9: be as much in a hurry now AS i might have,
- 37:37Speaker 9: been you, know a month, ago for guys Like Arizona
- 37:40Speaker 9: State Jordan tyson Or Carnel tate out Of Ohio. STATE
- 37:43Speaker 9: i think for, ME i lean towards either that playmaking
- 37:47Speaker 9: running back In Jeremiah love or IF i can't find,
- 37:49Speaker 9: That i'm going to the. Defense i'm trying to find
- 37:51Speaker 9: a playmaker over on that.
- 37:52Speaker 3: Stuff Ross jackson locked On saints And Luisianasports dot. Need
- 37:56Speaker 3: you can find all of his stuff. There, ross thanks

- 39:55Speaker 3: on This friday, morning and got a few minutes here
- 39:58Speaker 3: before we have to hit that top the hour. Break
- 40:01Speaker 3: all the talk this week has been About Bill Belichick's
- 40:04Speaker 3: hall Of fame. Snub, Right he's not going to be
- 40:06Speaker 3: a first ballot he came. Up it looks like a vote.
- 40:09Speaker 3: Short it looks like eleven people didn't vote for. Him
- 40:11Speaker 3: you got to get forty out of the fifty votes
- 40:13Speaker 3: to make it to The hall Of, fame and that.
- 40:15Speaker 3: SUCKS i don't even particularly Like Bill. BELICHICK i think
- 40:19Speaker 3: there's no question about. It Bill belichick is the first
- 40:22Speaker 3: Ballot hall Of. Famer people start, Questioning, okay is it?
- 40:25Speaker 3: Spygate is it deflate? Gate, like what's the? Issue what
- 40:29Speaker 3: kept him? Out my question has always been Keep Tom
- 40:32Speaker 3: brady from being a first Ballot hall Of.
- 40:34Speaker 2: Famer he was on the team for both of those.
- 40:36Speaker 3: Things you better not Like Tom Brady's hall Of fame
- 40:38Speaker 3: vote should take fifteen. Seconds everybody should just raise their
- 40:41Speaker 3: hand say, yes it counts that long to count all fifty,
- 40:44Speaker 3: votes and then, boom Tom brady's in The hall Of.
- 40:45Speaker 3: Fame it's the Easiest hall Of fame vote probably in
- 40:48Speaker 3: the history of this. League but if you do To,
- 40:50Speaker 3: belichick do you do it To Tom. Brady, now since
- 40:53Speaker 3: all the talk has been About belichick, snub very few
- 40:55Speaker 3: people have actually mentioned the finalists that still remain of
- 41:00Speaker 3: for the twenty twenty SIX Nfl hall Of fame class
- 41:03Speaker 3: that'll actually be announced On february, fifth out In San
- 41:05Speaker 3: francisco at THE Nfl honors right before The Super. Bowl
- 41:09Speaker 3: so and something to kind of keep an eye on next.
- 41:13Speaker 3: Week but first year eligible Players Drew, Brees Larry, Fitzgerald Frank,
- 41:18Speaker 3: Gore Jason. WHITTEN i, mean those guys are all going
- 41:23Speaker 3: to get in at some. Point Drew brees And Larry
- 41:25Speaker 3: fitzgerald are first Ballot hall Of. FAMERS i, MEAN i
- 41:27Speaker 3: don't think there's any question about. THAT i, Mean drew's
- 41:30Speaker 3: what a top ten quarterback of all, time some may
- 41:33Speaker 3: even say top. Five and then Like Larry, Fitzgerald he's
- 41:37Speaker 3: on my list of top five receivers IN nfl, History
- 41:39Speaker 3: And i'm Going Jerry, Rice Randy, Moss Calvin johnson t
- 41:44Speaker 3: O Larry. Fitzgerald like that's the order for. ME i
- 41:49Speaker 3: know he's not the flashiest GUY i. Know he never
- 41:51Speaker 3: went into press conferences and did anything. Controversial But Larry
- 41:54Speaker 3: fitzgerald has more career tackles than drop passes and he
- 41:58Speaker 3: played over a, decade and just think about. THAT i,
- 42:01Speaker 3: MEAN i still look back on The Super bowl in
- 42:03Speaker 3: two thousand and eight between The cardinal two thousand and
- 42:06Speaker 3: Nine Super, bowl but two thousand and eight football season
- 42:09Speaker 3: between The cardinals and The steelers still my favorite Super
- 42:11Speaker 3: bowl of all. Time steelers wind up winning that, game
- 42:13Speaker 3: but my, God Larry fitzgerald was. Unguardable and that was
- 42:16Speaker 3: The steelers team that had arguably the best defense in THE,
- 42:19Speaker 3: nfl And Larry fitzgerald did. Whatever he won, it and
- 42:23Speaker 3: there was really no drop off for. It and, Like,
- 42:25Speaker 3: okay you can look at some of these, receivers like
- 42:30Speaker 3: he's not a first, ballot But Reggy wayne's up for it,
- 42:32Speaker 3: Again Tory holts up for it. Again those guys are
- 42:34Speaker 3: going to get in at some. Point but they did
- 42:37Speaker 3: it with really good. QUARTERBACKS i, Mean Larry fitzgerald Had
- 42:41Speaker 3: Kurt warner for a few, seasons Had Carson palmer for
- 42:45Speaker 3: two years towards the end of his, career And palmer
- 42:47Speaker 3: is actually pretty good. There outside of, that it was
- 42:49Speaker 3: kind of a turnstyle of quarterbacks For Larry fitzgerald At,
- 42:52Speaker 3: arizona and he never missed the. BEAT i mean he,
- 42:54Speaker 3: Is he's one of those. Receivers it's quarterback, proof, RIGHT
- 42:56Speaker 3: i say that About Devonte. Adams it doesn't really matter
- 42:59Speaker 3: who's going in the Ball Devonte adams is going to
- 43:01Speaker 3: catch a lot of passes and he's gonna score a
- 43:03Speaker 3: lot of. Touchdowns same could be said For Larry. Fitzgerald,
- 43:06Speaker 3: Also Drew brees is getting in first, Ballot, like there's
- 43:09Speaker 3: no question about. THAT i, know we hear the state
- 43:11Speaker 3: Of louisian are more privy To Drew brees than most.
- 43:13Speaker 3: People BUT i, mean anybody with half a brain Knows
- 43:15Speaker 3: Drew brees is going to get in won the first.
- 43:17Speaker 2: Ballot there's no question about.
- 43:18Speaker 5: It.
- 43:18Speaker 3: Uh do you want to mention That Eli, manning it
- 43:20Speaker 3: was actually announced for the second year in a, row
- 43:22Speaker 3: will not make The Pro Football hall Of. Fame AND
- 43:25Speaker 3: i know a lot of people scratch their heads on
- 43:26Speaker 3: that and, say, Well Eli manning has to be A
- 43:28Speaker 3: hall Of, famer, RIGHT i, mean he's one of the
- 43:30Speaker 3: most legendary players in the. League, sure he, is BUT
- 43:33Speaker 3: i understand why he hasn't made. It Like eli's going
- 43:36Speaker 3: to make The hall Of. Fame he's won Two Super.
- 43:38Speaker 3: BOWLS i think it's also important to note that he
- 43:40Speaker 3: won both of Those Super bowls against mister Super bowl,
- 43:43Speaker 3: Himself Tom brady's two to zero against him in The Big.
- 43:46Speaker 2: Game he's going to make The hall Of fame at some.
- 43:49Speaker 2: Point But.
- 43:52Speaker 3: Eli manning sixty percent in, completion three hundred and sixty
- 43:56Speaker 3: six career, touchdowns two hundred and forty four career, interceptions
- 44:00Speaker 3: and his record as AN nfl starting quarterback is one
- 44:03Speaker 3: seventeen and one seventeen big time moments For eli had
- 44:09Speaker 3: some big time seasons his sixteen year. Career as a,
- 44:12Speaker 3: whole it had a lot of ups and. Downs now
- 44:15Speaker 3: you're gonna say you played for The. GIANTS i understand,
- 44:17Speaker 3: That but The giants are not what they are now
- 44:18Speaker 3: what they were when he played. THERE i, mean it
- 44:23Speaker 3: wasn't as heart of a division that The cowboys Had Tony,
- 44:26Speaker 3: romo who couldn't win it when it. Mattered most The
- 44:28Speaker 3: redskins were going through their own quarterback, issues which seems
- 44:32Speaker 3: like they have my entire life until. Now and then
- 44:35Speaker 3: The eagles had an Aging donovan McNabb and then when
- 44:37Speaker 3: they moved on from, him like you Had vic for
- 44:39Speaker 3: a few, years but then after that didn't work, out
- 44:41Speaker 3: you you bounced, Around you Went Nick, foles you Went Sam.
- 44:44Speaker 3: Bradford SO i Mean eli had an opportunity to do
- 44:47Speaker 3: that and you won the division quite a few.
- 44:48Speaker 2: Times BUT i Like. Eli, again he's going to make
- 44:52Speaker 2: The Super.
- 44:53Speaker 3: Bowl he's a two Time Super bowl, champion two Times
- 44:55Speaker 3: Super BOWL, mvp but.
- 44:58Speaker 2: Four Pro.
- 44:58Speaker 3: Bowls that's. IT i, mean that's that's Where Eli manning's career.
- 45:02Speaker 3: Is and, again sixty percent, completion a five hundred record
- 45:05Speaker 3: as a starter in The National Football. League all those
- 45:08Speaker 3: guys are gonna get, it Like Tory, Holt Isaac, Reggie,
- 45:12Speaker 3: Wayne Adam, vinteri Who i'm surprised wasn't a first ballot
- 45:15Speaker 3: this is his second year up for.
- 45:16Speaker 2: It all those guys are going to get.
- 45:18Speaker 3: In BUT i think no question in my, Mind Like
- 45:20Speaker 3: Jason whittin's kind of iffy for, me he's going to
- 45:22Speaker 3: get in as he first. BALLOT i, mean Obviously i'm
- 45:25Speaker 3: a little bit. BIASED i Think Jason witten should be
- 45:27Speaker 3: in the first, ballot But Drew brees and And Larry fitzgerald
- 45:30Speaker 3: are getting. It there's just no if answer butts about
- 45:33Speaker 3: it that's. Happening so it's, like you, KNOW i get
- 45:36Speaker 3: that that The belichick thing was a.
- 45:38Speaker 2: Snub it's.
- 45:38Speaker 3: Ridiculous The hall Of fame came out and, said you,
- 45:41Speaker 3: know if voters aren't fair and don't vote for people
- 45:43Speaker 3: for personal, reasons they may have their vote taken. Away,
- 45:46Speaker 3: fine BUT i wanted to highlight the guys that are
- 45:48Speaker 3: actually still up for it BECAUSE i think that they're, gonna,
- 45:52Speaker 3: uh they're gonna get.
- 45:53Speaker 2: IN i saw something funny the other.
- 45:55Speaker 3: DAY i almost sent it to a Laundra it, said,
- 45:57Speaker 3: guys don't worry About Bill. Belichick he waited forty nine
- 46:00Speaker 3: years for his girlfriend to be. Born he could wait
- 46:02Speaker 3: a year for The hall Of. Fame so, uh obviously
- 46:04Speaker 3: him And Jordan. Budson but forty nine years is. INSANE
- 46:07Speaker 3: i didn't realize that UNTIL i actually saw the meme
- 46:09Speaker 3: real real.
- 46:10Speaker 5: FAST i did see one that was, like there's nothing
- 46:12Speaker 5: more emblematic About Drew brees than him being a first
- 46:15Speaker 5: Ballot hall.
- 46:16Speaker 2: Of one being over. Shouted i'm talking About. Belichich, yeah
- 46:19Speaker 2: no one talking about it all.
- 46:20Speaker 3: Right, look that's gonna do it for hour number. Two
- 46:22Speaker 3: we are rolling right along here on This. Friday coming
- 46:26Speaker 3: up in the third, hour we're gonna give you a
- 46:28Speaker 3: Quick Super bowl preview early.
- 46:30Speaker 2: Thoughts Jason zern Of Grenade football joins us as. Well
